- 0:41Speaker 2: Welcome in OTB here on this Wednesday morning live from
- 0:52Speaker 2: the Raising Cane Studio and our Wednesday shows brought to
- 0:55Speaker 2: you by our friends over at Poncho Poncho Outdoors dot
- 0:58Speaker 2: com slash off the bench.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Jake Flynn, Alondra and Luke here with you this morning.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We're going to have our guy, Dr. Stephen Etheridge, join
- 1:08Speaker 2: us about an hour from now, as he always does.
- 1:10Speaker 2: A lot to get to, a lot to break down,
- 1:13Speaker 2: a lot to preview as we kind of move forward.
- 1:18Speaker 2: You know, we did our film review of Ole Miss yesterday.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Put that to bed.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's out there.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Eye in the sky. Check it out on YouTube.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Subscribe. Like.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Share.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It's only 80 minutes.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you share it.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Why not?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's only 80 minutes. Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 5: 82.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Those 80s go by real fast.
- 1:39Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:40Speaker 3: 90's too much.
- 1:40Speaker 2: It rolled off the tongue.
- 1:41Speaker 3: 80.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I couldn't do 10 more minutes.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I couldn't do it. There's no shot.
- 1:46Speaker 2: How many plays did we have?
- 1:49Speaker 4: I think it was like 20-something.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Okay, it's not bad. Yeah. Because Flynn came in here
- 1:53Speaker 2: with 35 plays, and he kind of thought like, yeah?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Andre and I were like, ah! Small work. 35?
- 2:02Speaker 1: 35?
- 2:03Speaker 4: 35?
- 2:03Speaker 3: I was lucky.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We just know how much you like to spend on
- 2:07Speaker 2: one play.
- 2:08Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Which is great.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It's great.
- 2:10Speaker 4: It's good for you. But like 35 is a lot.
- 2:14Speaker 6: I got to say, breaking down the sales has really
- 2:16Speaker 6: been good for the soul. I don't know if it's
- 2:17Speaker 6: good to watch, but my God, it's fun to do.
- 2:19Speaker 6: It's like chicken noodle soup.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yes. It's good for the soul. It's comfort food. Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I think it's a book.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Chicken noodle soup for the teenage soul?
- 2:28Speaker 3: For the soul. Or a movie or something. I feel
- 2:31Speaker 3: like that.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Feels right.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you do that right after you dance like nobody's watching. Live, Left, Love?
- 2:40Speaker 4: Yeah, for the teenage soul.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Ah, there we go.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Never read it. Maybe that's why.
- 2:45Speaker 3: That's why.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Maybe that's why you don't even take a noodle soup.
- 2:48Speaker 6: That's why we have to come in here and listen
- 2:50Speaker 6: to Busta Rhymes to wake us up in the morning.
- 2:56Speaker 3: No, but it is a lot of fun to break
- 3:00Speaker 3: down the film.
- 3:01Speaker 6: And, again, it's one of those things like best teams
- 3:06Speaker 6: in the world. So the Seahawks last year, they were
- 3:08Speaker 6: the best team in the entire planet Earth last year, right?
- 3:13Speaker 6: Every single game film that they had, whether they won,
- 3:17Speaker 6: whether they lost, even in the Super Bowl, they probably
- 3:20Speaker 6: look at it and they'll pick 40 plays out. They
- 3:23Speaker 6: were like, that's a bad play. We were one person away.
- 3:25Speaker 6: We were one missed block. We were one MA.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Receiver.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Got to dig the safety out on that one. Right.
- 3:32Speaker 6: Every single team, every single film, there's always many, many
- 3:36Speaker 6: plays where you were just, that's why it's the greatest
- 3:38Speaker 6: team sport.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Football is the greatest sport in the whole world.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You got to do your 111th.
- 3:43Speaker 3: You got to be your 111th. And guess what?
- 3:45Speaker 6: The guy you're facing is trying to do his 111th.
- 3:48Speaker 6: And y'all are both really good. So it's just one
- 3:52Speaker 6: of those things that's really fun to look at it
- 3:56Speaker 6: and dissect.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Even the smallest.
- 3:59Speaker 6: We dissected a quarterback sneak yesterday on our film review.
- 4:04Speaker 6: It's fun to see those things, and it's something certainly
- 4:07Speaker 6: you and I did for a long, long time.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Spent a lot of time in the film room. It's funny.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I was talking with Doering last night, and I was
- 4:15Speaker 2: asking him a little bit about Florida's running back, and
- 4:18Speaker 2: then he was trying to do a breakdown of LSU's offense,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and he's like, hey, what do you think about doing
- 4:23Speaker 2: these plays? And he sent me three plays. I'm like,
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think you should probably do these three. I think
- 4:28Speaker 2: if you're going to break it down, I see what
- 4:31Speaker 2: you see in these plays, but I'm telling you, show
- 4:34Speaker 2: these three, and I think it will be a more
- 4:36Speaker 2: interesting conversation.
- 4:37Speaker 3: For sure.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Just because of what was there for LSU, what Ole
- 4:42Speaker 2: Miss needs to fix, what Florida, because that's who they're playing,
- 4:44Speaker 2: what they can do maybe to attack Ole Miss.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It's way more than just, you know. He was showing
- 4:51Speaker 2: some of the passes where he had an open receiver
- 4:55Speaker 2: and how– you didn't connect with them. I was like, man,
- 4:58Speaker 2: it's a deeper story.
- 4:59Speaker 3: It feels like that. Everything's a little deeper story.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Like a lot of the clips I see posted online
- 5:04Speaker 6: right now, people, you know, like, you know, posting clips
- 5:07Speaker 6: and talking and trying to like, you know, break down,
- 5:09Speaker 6: you know, quarterback play or whatever from Trinidad.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It's like the one where he scrambles out and does
- 5:13Speaker 3: the flip.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Awesome play.
- 5:15Speaker 6: It's so fun to watch that. That's just a fun
- 5:18Speaker 6: play to watch as a football fan. It doesn't really
- 5:20Speaker 6: tell you a whole lot about either team. It tells
- 5:23Speaker 6: you a lot about like that one guy just made a,
- 5:25Speaker 6: this is a bad-ass play.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I saw a couple of people that I really– I
- 5:29Speaker 2: think they do a good job. And you said this
- 5:32Speaker 2: perfectly yesterday while we were doing the film review. You
- 5:35Speaker 2: were like, that's going to be on this draft highlight tape.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And it was like– That's about it. And I was like, wait,
- 5:40Speaker 2: what do you mean? That's actually not a good play.
- 5:43Speaker 2: He got away with it.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But it was the out route that he threw in
- 5:47Speaker 2: the cover too.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Look at this miss.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So I'm like, yeah, but if the corner's playing– squatted
- 5:55Speaker 2: like he's supposed to and not allowing the receiver to
- 5:58Speaker 2: you know engage with him and kind of knock him
- 6:00Speaker 2: off and that's probably going the other way.
- 6:03Speaker 6: Yeah it was like a cover twos like so it
- 6:04Speaker 6: was a cloud corner and it was early in the
- 6:06Speaker 6: game and it was like the first really good throw
- 6:09Speaker 6: of the game it was a third down conversion we
- 6:12Speaker 6: bring a linebacker and what blake baker loves to do
- 6:15Speaker 6: when he brings any pressure whether it's a simulated pressure
- 6:18Speaker 6: and you're just rushing four Or you do rush five.
- 6:23Speaker 6: He plays cloud coverage to that side, and he plays
- 6:25Speaker 6: cloud coverage or cover two halves to that side, and
- 6:28Speaker 6: it takes away a lot of hot throws. So cloud coverage,
- 6:32Speaker 6: cover two, the corner sits in the flat. He doesn't
- 6:35Speaker 6: get depth, and he doesn't follow. It's a zone coverage,
- 6:38Speaker 6: and it takes away a hitch route or a quick
- 6:40Speaker 6: out route or a flat route.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Well, P.J.
- 6:43Speaker 6: Woodland just got caught in his technique a little bit.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Receiver made contact with him when he was running a
- 6:47Speaker 6: go route, and he turned his body. He turned his
- 6:50Speaker 6: back to the quarterback and drifted up the field a
- 6:52Speaker 6: little bit too far, and the out route came underneath him. Now,
- 6:56Speaker 6: that was a bad read by Trinidad.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:58Speaker 3: A great throw. Ripped it. Ripped that ball, but it
- 7:01Speaker 3: should have been. It could have been.
- 7:03Speaker 6: That's one of those things that even the best teams
- 7:06Speaker 6: in the world, the best corners, they have a bad
- 7:08Speaker 6: technique or get caught or get hit in the shoulder
- 7:10Speaker 6: when they're supposed to play technique. Just one of those
- 7:14Speaker 6: interesting things you find when you watch film. You know,
- 7:17Speaker 6: just like watch like the draft. It's going to be
- 7:21Speaker 6: on his draft highlight package on the coverage. It won't
- 7:24Speaker 6: help them get drafted.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Okay. I can buy that.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I like that. You like that? Yeah. Just made it
- 7:31Speaker 3: up right here.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Well, I know.
- 7:33Speaker 3: In the capital city.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I know your mind doesn't prepare.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It's not how your mind works. Right here. Good morning,
- 7:38Speaker 3: Baton Rouge.
- 7:39Speaker 2: All right. Let's put a laundry on the spot.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Cool.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Because Alondra was in here. Alondra helps us. We couldn't
- 7:47Speaker 2: do Eye in the Sky without her. Anything that you
- 7:50Speaker 2: saw or learned or maybe were surprised by as we
- 7:54Speaker 2: were doing the film yesterday?
- 7:55Speaker 4: I wouldn't say.
- 7:56Speaker 5: I think that the film review overall is helping me
- 8:02Speaker 5: while I'm watching the game. And I think I told
- 8:04Speaker 5: you all that on Saturday. Because, oh, and also I
- 8:07Speaker 5: was like, wait, why did the linebacker Why was he
- 8:11Speaker 5: able to know about, like, timing up the snap? Because
- 8:16Speaker 5: I was like, wait, why did the clap make him
- 8:18Speaker 5: go straight to him early? And you said because he
- 8:20Speaker 5: had a tell because he would go, like, halfway first.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:24Speaker 5: And then second he would clap. And then so the
- 8:26Speaker 5: linebacker knew to shoot straight to him because he.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Knew he was about to snap.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Right, yeah. And those are good things. That was a
- 8:31Speaker 2: good question by you. And it's good things to kind
- 8:35Speaker 2: of put out there when we do a film review
- 8:36Speaker 2: because It's so small, like within a game. It's so small,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but it's just for a little bit, it was a
- 8:44Speaker 2: tale of like a half clap, like fake clap, and
- 8:47Speaker 2: then as soon as he went to the real clap,
- 8:49Speaker 2: that's when the ball was getting snapped, and they picked
- 8:52Speaker 2: up on it, and as soon as they saw the
- 8:54Speaker 2: real clap go, shoot the gap.
- 8:55Speaker 4: That and the two wide receivers that got out of
- 8:57Speaker 4: the threat's way.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah. That was one of my favorite ones.
- 9:00Speaker 5: That was funny because they both immediately stepped back.
- 9:03Speaker 4: They're like.
- 9:05Speaker 5: But I think just overall, it's helping me understand what's happening.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I think it helps. I think a lot of people
- 9:11Speaker 2: that I talked to yesterday that had watched it, I
- 9:14Speaker 2: think it helps them understand that, you know what? Maybe
- 9:18Speaker 2: I won't yell at the play that was called. Right.
- 9:22Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 2: There were some people defensively, like, what are you doing?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Why are you playing so soft? Well, it's like, no,
- 9:29Speaker 2: you had him there. The coverage was actually the coverage
- 9:32Speaker 2: you want in that route concept. And it just shows
- 9:35Speaker 2: you when you play against an elite quarterback like that,
- 9:38Speaker 2: a shoulder turn, a slow foot, a glance the wrong
- 9:42Speaker 2: way will get you beat.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yep. Not reading your keys.
- 9:46Speaker 6: You had some safeties and some DBs get thrown in
- 9:48Speaker 6: the game in some positions that maybe they didn't really
- 9:51Speaker 6: rep throughout the week. They weren't as prepared or didn't
- 9:55Speaker 6: think they would be put in.
- 9:56Speaker 2: You move some safeties to nickel, nickels to safe, trying to,
- 10:00Speaker 2: because you had injuries, you're trying to piece it together and, okay,
- 10:03Speaker 2: what's our best formula here?
- 10:04Speaker 6: Yep, and so you had some guys playing free safety
- 10:07Speaker 6: that maybe were a little bit slow on their reads.
- 10:12Speaker 6: And what I mean by that is in every coverage
- 10:14Speaker 6: of free safety or a safety, they have reads that
- 10:17Speaker 6: they have to do.
- 10:17Speaker 3: If it's three by one, they got to read. They
- 10:19Speaker 3: got to read number three.
- 10:20Speaker 6: And if he crosses the Mike linebackers face, he goes
- 10:23Speaker 6: to number two, the number one, like they have different
- 10:25Speaker 6: visual aids that guide them throughout the play. And if
- 10:29Speaker 6: you're just a second late, like we were this past Saturday,
- 10:32Speaker 6: just like got on your weight, got on your heels
- 10:35Speaker 6: just a little bit, or just a split second late.
- 10:37Speaker 6: You can't make the play versus a guy like Trinidad Chambliss.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Now you may, maybe you get away with it this week,
- 10:43Speaker 6: or maybe you get away with it in a different week. Um,
- 10:47Speaker 6: But Trinidad made you pay for any little, little mistake
- 10:50Speaker 6: that you made. Whether he knew or not, there's a
- 10:53Speaker 6: couple throws that Trinidad made that probably ill-advised.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:57Speaker 3: But he ripped them.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Even when, like, there was one that he messed up
- 11:02Speaker 2: that should have been a hospital ball. Now, you didn't
- 11:05Speaker 2: play it right, and it's a play that we wrote down.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But even in the hospital ball, he threw it on
- 11:09Speaker 2: the back hip.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So your stay.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Wouldn't have been as long. You went from a three-week
- 11:13Speaker 2: stay in the hospital to a one-week stay. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You were.
- 11:17Speaker 6: You're cheering on your team for one week, but then
- 11:19Speaker 6: playing the second one. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:22Speaker 2: When I watch a film like that, it's a couple
- 11:25Speaker 2: of things. And I feel like Alondra was probably like this, too.
- 11:28Speaker 2: It's frustrating, but it's also encouraging. You're like, just fix that.
- 11:35Speaker 2: If it was a talent issue, it makes you, hey,
- 11:38Speaker 2: we're not very good. And last year, when we watched Tate,
- 11:41Speaker 2: we said that many times. We're not very good.
- 11:45Speaker 6: So last year when we watched the film, it was like, okay,
- 11:48Speaker 6: this needs an overhaul. This is not fixable. The plays
- 11:52Speaker 6: are there to be made on both sides of the ball.
- 11:54Speaker 6: And again, let's not single out one side of the
- 11:58Speaker 6: ball or the other. There was plays on both sides
- 12:01Speaker 6: of the ball to be made. Now the defense really
- 12:03Speaker 6: stepped up and the offense ended up making the plays
- 12:05Speaker 6: in the second half to get you back into the.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Game and give you an opportunity. Didn't make enough of them,
- 12:10Speaker 3: but There are fixes.
- 12:13Speaker 6: There's a lot to be hopeful for as an LSU
- 12:16Speaker 6: fan going forward because, again, a year ago, it was
- 12:21Speaker 6: like there's not really a hope here because the scheme's
- 12:25Speaker 6: not there. They're not playing with like– they're playing hard,
- 12:29Speaker 6: but there's just not– maybe not the strain that you
- 12:32Speaker 6: want to see. Yeah, I would say last year we
- 12:34Speaker 6: can– It's like, I don't know what to, I don't
- 12:37Speaker 6: know that there's not like one or two things to fix.
- 12:39Speaker 6: You kind of got to feel like, I don't know
- 12:40Speaker 6: if we can install a new offense before A & M.
- 12:43Speaker 6: That was pretty much like the feeling last year. You
- 12:46Speaker 6: don't need to do a lot. You just got to
- 12:48Speaker 6: improve at what you're doing, get faster. And again, this
- 12:50Speaker 6: is we're three games into a new coaching tenure.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Yeah. Like I knew it with new players, a new system.
- 12:57Speaker 6: So yeah, there's going to be some hurdles to get over.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Sam, You got to improve. He knows that.
- 13:04Speaker 6: I mean, we're not saying anything that they're not saying
- 13:09Speaker 6: over there.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Now, they see a lot more. They understand a lot more.
- 13:12Speaker 6: We're watching like no clue what these plays are called.
- 13:15Speaker 6: We're just looking at concepts, how we were taught these concepts.
- 13:19Speaker 6: But they just got to operate within the system a
- 13:23Speaker 6: little bit.
- 13:23Speaker 3: The plays are there.
- 13:24Speaker 6: The system's there, obviously. And a lot to be hopeful for.
- 13:29Speaker 6: But again, they got to do it. They got to
- 13:31Speaker 6: do it. You can be hopeful all you want, but
- 13:34Speaker 6: the opportunity is going to be there.
- 13:36Speaker 3: And the good part about it, this team's got no
- 13:38Speaker 3: quit in them. Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Hey, okay, Sam, you didn't play good, but there were
- 13:42Speaker 6: times you didn't play good and work the system. You
- 13:44Speaker 6: made some really good plays, but by God, I'll go
- 13:47Speaker 6: to battle with you.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 6: You're going to duck your head in there and dive
- 13:51Speaker 6: forward and do a little helicopter spin.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I'll go to battle with you. Yeah. You can improve
- 13:56Speaker 3: the other things.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 2: It's fun because last year it was tough for us
- 14:02Speaker 2: to watch it and not see the strain that we're
- 14:05Speaker 2: talking about. And there's a lot of guys I'm like,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm not taking you to battle.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 2: You're not coming with me. And some of that was, well,
- 14:11Speaker 2: there's a lot of things. I mean, it can be
- 14:13Speaker 2: what's placed on you as far as your expectation and
- 14:16Speaker 2: what you did in the, in the spring and summer,
- 14:18Speaker 2: as far as your weight training and, uh, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 2: I don't, they don't do one tens anymore, but whatever
- 14:24Speaker 2: you do in place of one tens, like whatever that is, like,
- 14:28Speaker 2: You don't really– you shouldn't care about, like, what the
- 14:30Speaker 2: GPS says, like, in a game like that. Like, how
- 14:33Speaker 2: many miles per hour a guy ran. I don't care
- 14:35Speaker 2: about that.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yep.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Like, when I turn on the tape, does it look
- 14:38Speaker 2: like he's busting his ass with everything he's got? Yep.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Sorry about that.
- 14:43Speaker 1: 7-14.
- 14:44Speaker 4: I think last year– I said it, too. Oh, you did?
- 14:46Speaker 2: I didn't even notice.
- 14:47Speaker 3: It was two.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Sorry, Memphis.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It was two after.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I think last year, if the team got down that
- 14:52Speaker 5: much– Oh, they quit. There was– well, not even that–
- 14:56Speaker 5: they would– But we wouldn't feel good either as spectators watching.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Like if a team last year went down that much,
- 15:03Speaker 5: we were like, oh, game over, whatever. But for some
- 15:05Speaker 5: reason on Saturday, even when we were down, I was like,
- 15:08Speaker 5: maybe we can come back. And then we put up
- 15:09Speaker 5: 17 unanswered and like we didn't end up coming back,
- 15:14Speaker 5: but there was a hope for it and they fought back.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Whereas last year it was like, oh, we're done.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:20Speaker 5: So that's why I think this won't affect them going
- 15:23Speaker 5: into Texas A & M.
- 15:25Speaker 6: I think it'll, I think, I think, and I'm obviously over.
- 15:32Speaker 6: I think it will help them.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:35Speaker 3: There's a lot of good teaching tape on that.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 3: If I was.
- 15:39Speaker 6: On the offensive side of the ball, the quarterback's coach,
- 15:41Speaker 6: offensive coordinator, I'm having Sam do every single individual period
- 15:46Speaker 6: we're doing.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Every time there's a special teams, I'm going individual and
- 15:49Speaker 3: just working footwork.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 6: And I'm slowing them down. I'm not even doing it fast.
- 15:52Speaker 6: I'm walking through. Just slow down because– We talk about it.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Get through your reads. Get through your progressions. Plays are made.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Plays are there to be made. And he makes them.
- 16:05Speaker 6: He makes them spectacular. He makes the hard look easy.
- 16:07Speaker 6: Sometimes makes the easy look hard. He's going to make
- 16:12Speaker 6: it all look easy.
- 16:14Speaker 2: We used to do this drill at Evangel for our
- 16:19Speaker 2: quarterbacks where they'd catch it and they'd kind of go
- 16:22Speaker 2: and hit their back foot and They'd have a number up,
- 16:25Speaker 2: and they'd have to go, like, seven, nine, eight, or
- 16:29Speaker 2: whatever it was. Like, they'd hold up a number, and
- 16:31Speaker 2: they'd have to go through the progression after they hit
- 16:32Speaker 2: their back foot and, like, turn to it and say
- 16:34Speaker 2: the number. Like, at the time, I'm like, why am
- 16:37Speaker 2: I doing that? But, like, in stuff like this, I'm like,
- 16:39Speaker 2: that's what we're talking about.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, let's do that. That's what we're talking about. Bring
- 16:43Speaker 3: that Brock Berlin drill over there.
- 16:45Speaker 2: All right. We've got to get at least one Brock
- 16:46Speaker 2: Berlin in per show.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Got to. There it is. Hero.
- 16:49Speaker 2: All right. Before we take this break, I want to
- 16:51Speaker 2: remind you about our friends over at Tommy's Windows, Doors,
- 16:53Speaker 2: and Siding. Go Tommy's.
- 16:55Speaker 1: G-E-A-U-X.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Tommy's with a Y. Dot com. When you go there,
- 16:59Speaker 2: you'll clearly see the difference. Award winning difference. Every year
- 17:02Speaker 2: since 2016, the Angie Super Service Award. How about the
- 17:05Speaker 2: best windows in the Advocate a year ago? That went
- 17:07Speaker 2: to Tommy's Windows, Doors, and Siding. The very best in
- 17:11Speaker 2: the Baton Rouge Advocate. They also do gutters as well.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Go to the website, gotommies.com. More OTB when we come
- 17:18Speaker 2: back here live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Welcome back to Off the Bench.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Wednesday's show is brought to you by Poncho.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I love you.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yes, I try. Yes, I try.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Yes, I cry.
- 18:22Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in OTB. It is number 23,
- 18:26Speaker 2: Texas A & M, traveling to number 10, LSU, this weekend.
- 18:31Speaker 2: This line right now sits at minus 8.5 in favor
- 18:34Speaker 2: of the LSU Tigers. ESPN matchup predictor gives LSU a 62.8%
- 18:40Speaker 2: chance to win the game at home. It is a
- 18:43Speaker 2: team in which you've led at halftime the last two
- 18:45Speaker 2: years and completely come out flat. to start the second
- 18:50Speaker 2: half on every side of the football, offense, defense, special teams.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And you owe them a little clap back, to say
- 18:58Speaker 2: the least. You need to do that. It has to
- 19:01Speaker 2: be this week. We all know you only get two mulligans.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You use one of those mulligans in week three. You
- 19:07Speaker 2: don't need to be using another one, certainly with what
- 19:10Speaker 2: you have coming down the tracks in week number four.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So far on the year, Texas A & M opened
- 19:16Speaker 2: up with Missouri State. They win the game 50-0. They
- 19:19Speaker 2: played Arizona State in week number two. Now, they pulled away.
- 19:22Speaker 2: It's kind of a weird game. They pulled away late.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Fourth quarter dominated 48-20. The game was close for like
- 19:28Speaker 2: three quarters. I mean, most of three quarters. It was
- 19:31Speaker 2: a close game. But they pulled away late, so the
- 19:34Speaker 2: score looks a little bit different. And then, of course,
- 19:36Speaker 2: they lost at home against Kentucky 31-21 a week ago. So,
- 19:41Speaker 2: a little bit of mixed bag for Texas A & M. Again,
- 19:44Speaker 2: Kentucky much better than I think anybody thought they would be.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Watched a game against Alabama. They were certainly in that
- 19:50Speaker 2: one for a while. Alabama pulled away late, but Texas
- 19:54Speaker 2: A & M outscored Arizona State 24 to nothing in
- 19:59Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. That game was 24-20 going into the
- 20:03Speaker 2: fourth quarter. Ended up 48-20. So even that game, you
- 20:10Speaker 2: go back and you actually watch it. Looks a little
- 20:12Speaker 2: bit different, certainly, than the scoreline. But still surprised maybe 8.5.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Feels like a big number.
- 20:19Speaker 3: It does.
- 20:19Speaker 2: In a ranked-on-ranked matchup.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It does.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Thinking maybe.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Feels very disrespectful towards.
- 20:25Speaker 2: 5.5?
- 20:25Speaker 5: 6.5?
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah, no, this is... Maybe.
- 20:27Speaker 6: This feels like a stinky line from the A &
- 20:30Speaker 6: M side of things, right? Like, if you're an A
- 20:33Speaker 6: & M fan, you're probably hammering right now.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yes. There's two... Very sneaky lines.
- 20:40Speaker 4: That went in, what was the other one? Florida.
- 20:42Speaker 3: What's their favorite overall? Three.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Three and a half, maybe, actually. Those two make you
- 20:48Speaker 2: want to, like, if you're not an LSU person, you're
- 20:52Speaker 2: probably looking at that from the outside thinking, let me
- 20:54Speaker 2: put those two together in part.
- 20:56Speaker 6: You're watching these lines, and you would think that LSU
- 21:00Speaker 6: won the game this past weekend.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Like, between those two lines. With Ole Miss being the underdog.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Like, I'm not shocked whatsoever that they're the underdog. It's
- 21:09Speaker 2: just by how many.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Right. It's a lot of points. To me. Vegas be
- 21:16Speaker 4: knowing things.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Vegas crazy. That I don't know.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Everyone thinks Vegas is all smart and everything. Because, like,
- 21:22Speaker 6: the line does hit a lot.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Who is Vegas?
- 21:24Speaker 3: Yeah, who are you, Vegas?
- 21:27Speaker 6: Well, I gave... Who were we talking about the other day?
- 21:30Speaker 6: There was a game where they missed the over-under by
- 21:32Speaker 6: like 40 points. It's not that smart.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Dumb Vegas.
- 21:36Speaker 4: But also, Texas A & M has beat us the
- 21:38Speaker 4: last couple times.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I know.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I told you. I was at T-Swift.
- 21:43Speaker 4: So, it is a confusing line to me. And it
- 21:49Speaker 4: was nine, wasn't it? Or nine and a half?
- 21:51Speaker 2: It was nine and a half, yeah. It's got bet
- 21:54Speaker 2: down to eight and a half. Exactly.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Bunch of Aggies. Big sharps. Texas oil money out there.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Bunch of yell leaders.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Calling Mr. Vegas. Place bet.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Hello, Vegas.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Terry Bussey is going to be out for the year
- 22:12Speaker 2: for A & M.
- 22:13Speaker 4: No Bussey?
- 22:14Speaker 2: No Bussey. Not this weekend. He's out.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I got to say, and I'm sorry. I apologize.
- 22:24Speaker 4: You don't know who Terry Bussey is.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 22:27Speaker 3: No clue. That was a given when I said his name.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Is he an agent?
- 22:32Speaker 2: LSU recruited him really hard.
- 22:34Speaker 6: They did.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I do know that.
- 22:36Speaker 3: What was his first name?
- 22:37Speaker 4: Terry.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I remember.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Bussy? Bussy.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I remember Taylor yelling in that microphone about how we
- 22:43Speaker 2: had to get him.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Gotta have Bussy.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:47Speaker 3: He said it all.
- 22:47Speaker 5: T-Bob made me do some, like, Bussy watch thing. You
- 22:50Speaker 5: weren't here, obviously. He was like, we're on Bussy watch.
- 22:54Speaker 5: And I had to play, like, a. I think it
- 22:56Speaker 5: was from Anchorman or something.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Oh, man, I hate that I wasn't here for that.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Same, because it wouldn't have been a thing, probably.
- 23:03Speaker 6: All I can think about when y'all say Terry Bussey
- 23:05Speaker 6: is all I can think about is Gary Busey.
- 23:08Speaker 3: The actor.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Great actor.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Under Siege?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Had some difficulties the last couple decades. Had a
- 23:16Speaker 3: couple tough decades, I think.
- 23:18Speaker 2: He dabbled.
- 23:19Speaker 3: He dabbled in what, you say?
- 23:22Speaker 4: Everything.
- 23:22Speaker 2: All of them.
- 23:23Speaker 3: All of it. All of it. So not Gary Busey.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Terry Bussey.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Terry Bussey. Completely different people. Also completely different names.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:36Speaker 3: It kind of sounds the same, though. I mean, not really.
- 23:39Speaker 3: In my brain. That's how my brain works. Gary Busey.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I'll give you Gary and Terry.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Yep. Bussey and Busey. It's a pronunciation thing, probably.
- 23:49Speaker 4: What part of the country are you in, you know?
- 23:53Speaker 2: Anyways, yeah, he's out.
- 23:55Speaker 3: He's out. It's not from hydration.
- 24:00Speaker 4: They're hydrated. Oh, they're so hydrated.
- 24:05Speaker 2: They're like one up, if not the most, besides the
- 24:08Speaker 2: Fighting Tigers, right?
- 24:09Speaker 6: I will say, like, the team we played last week,
- 24:11Speaker 6: they're extremely hydrated.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 24:14Speaker 2: This dude out here just selling to the enemy. So
- 24:16Speaker 2: they're fresh in the fourth quarter without cramping, huh? Wild.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So was the team we played first. That didn't matter.
- 24:24Speaker 2: They didn't really get to the fourth quarter with anything
- 24:27Speaker 2: on the line, so it didn't really matter.
- 24:30Speaker 3: That's true. I should have sabotaged it.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Put less electrolytes in it.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Louisiana Tech's not hydrated.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Come on, dogs.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Just put so much sodium in it, it dehydrates them.
- 24:44Speaker 3: There's some budgetary restrictions with some schools.
- 24:47Speaker 2: You can't help out an in-state school, bro.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I know.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I'm not running a charity.
- 24:53Speaker 2: We know.
- 24:53Speaker 3: You don't give us any. I brought this to you
- 24:55Speaker 3: when I started the show.
- 24:57Speaker 4: It's gone.
- 24:58Speaker 2: How long has that been empty?
- 25:00Speaker 4: For a year, at least.
- 25:01Speaker 6: It's been here for 14 months. It's been gone for
- 25:03Speaker 6: about 12 and a half.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Although, Alondra, I did guilt him into buying me some
- 25:09Speaker 2: this weekend.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Really? Yeah. I had to buy my own.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I was going to steal it.
- 25:13Speaker 3: He was going to steal it. He was going to
- 25:15Speaker 3: steal it from Rouse's.
- 25:17Speaker 2: It's his company.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but they already bought it from me.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Like Hanny says, when you're at Rouse's, anything's free when
- 25:24Speaker 2: you're here doing a show.
- 25:25Speaker 3: That's true.
- 25:26Speaker 4: That is Hanny's motto.
- 25:29Speaker 6: So I was just going to take some zero. I
- 25:33Speaker 6: did pop open a LaCroix last year. We got that
- 25:37Speaker 6: little refrigerated section next to us, and I drank it
- 25:39Speaker 6: right there. I think I hit an energy drink every
- 25:43Speaker 6: time last year.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Sorry, Mr.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Donnie.
- 25:50Speaker 3: That's all right.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Our bad.
- 25:53Speaker 3: We took that one. If y'all have been looking for
- 25:55Speaker 3: that one on the spreadsheets, I drank it.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Donnie's watching right now, crossing it off.
- 26:02Speaker 4: He's like, okay.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I'll let accounting know.
- 26:09Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:10Speaker 3: We will take a break.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Obviously, we'll get more into LSU and Texas A & M. Again,
- 26:15Speaker 2: we talked about it a little bit yesterday, the slate
- 26:17Speaker 2: in the SEC. You've got as many ranked on ranked
- 26:20Speaker 2: games as you've ever had in the SEC. That's quite
- 26:23Speaker 2: the statement, but it is true. And, of course, we'll
- 26:26Speaker 2: get to the Saints and Raiders. Dr. Stephen Etheridge, a
- 26:29Speaker 2: lot still coming your way. Stay locked in here on OTB.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 26:34Speaker 2: All right, go to getgordon.com. Gordon McKernan, injury attorneys throughout

- 27:14Speaker 6: truck accident, maybe it's injured on the job, well, worry not.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Give the experts a call. Gordon McKernan, Injury Attorneys. They've

- 28:11Speaker 4: Won't you be my inspiration? Be the real love that
- 28:15Speaker 4: I need. Real love. I'm searching for a real love.

- 28:26Speaker 5: Real.
- 28:28Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in OTB. You're live from the

- 28:44Speaker 3: I've had it on every day this week.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I know, I think we have. I mean, most days.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Thank you for the wardrobe, Poncho.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Man, I can't wait till the weather gets a little
- 28:54Speaker 6: cool out there and I can wear those nice denim shirts.
- 28:58Speaker 3: They're really good looking. And the corduroy shorts.
- 29:01Speaker 2: There's going to be a Wednesday where you see your
- 29:04Speaker 2: boys in Canadian tuxedos.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Oh, for sure. Yeah. And maybe even a Tuesday.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Laundra, do you need a denim poncho shirt so you
- 29:14Speaker 2: can join in on the fun?
- 29:15Speaker 5: I feel like the denim ones could maybe be unisex.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Oh, for sure.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I mean, they got like different fits too. Yeah.
- 29:26Speaker 3: And if you're wondering.
- 29:27Speaker 2: You don't want a pearl snap?
- 29:27Speaker 1: No.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I don't think I could rock a pearl snap.
- 29:30Speaker 3: If you're wondering.
- 29:32Speaker 4: No, we're not wondering.
- 29:32Speaker 2: We're not wondering whose neck beard that is.
- 29:34Speaker 3: This man right here.
- 29:36Speaker 4: We're not wondering.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Would you stop caressing the picture?
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yourself?
- 29:39Speaker 3: That's a male model right there.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Hey, stop caressing yourself, T-Bob. I mean, Matt.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Hey, real quick. It is carpool time right now. I
- 29:48Speaker 3: want to give a shout out.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Well, you already.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Whose birthday?
- 29:52Speaker 2: Messed up.
- 29:52Speaker 3: No.
- 29:53Speaker 6: Oh.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Well, no, this is Dunham carpool, prime carpool time right now.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 29:59Speaker 6: So I want to give a shout out to the
- 30:01Speaker 6: Dunham fifth and sixth grade middle school football team.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Did y'all win it?
- 30:03Speaker 3: Got our first win last night. Let's go.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 30:07Speaker 4: David beat Goliath.
- 30:08Speaker 3: They did.
- 30:08Speaker 6: David beat Goliath, a team that beat us by like
- 30:11Speaker 6: 30-something a couple of weeks ago.
- 30:14Speaker 3: They were down 18-nothing at halftime. Come back of the century.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie. They had them in the
- 30:19Speaker 2: first half.
- 30:20Speaker 3: They did. They had them. We were that close.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Those boys that clicked for them, they learned how to compete.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Boy, did they.
- 30:27Speaker 3: It was very exciting.
- 30:28Speaker 6: And it's good for everybody in life to feel a
- 30:31Speaker 6: little bit of success, a little bit of victory. They
- 30:33Speaker 6: had a good time. So congrats to the Donna 5th
- 30:35Speaker 6: and 6th grade middle two team.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Come back hard-fought victory. Let's go.
- 30:39Speaker 3: That was fantastic.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Shout out Donna Middle School.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Sure.
- 30:42Speaker 3: We were giving up about 30, 40 pounds on the line.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Who'd y'all.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Play? Like what?
- 30:49Speaker 2: Who did y'all? With whom did you play?
- 30:51Speaker 6: We played another 5th and 6th grade team. I don't
- 30:54Speaker 6: want to, like, call anybody out about losing, but the
- 30:56Speaker 6: Dunham team won.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Why?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Let's go Dunham.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I mean, the team won, so it's one and one,
- 31:01Speaker 2: so they won.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Are you saying it needs to be a rubber match?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Ooh. I think so. I mean, it's weird that you
- 31:10Speaker 2: won't say the team.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Is it? Yeah. I don't know. I was trying to be.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I don't know. Like, Huddy had an eighth grade game.
- 31:15Speaker 2: They beat Parkview in a great game. Parkview played great.
- 31:18Speaker 2: UHA played great. UHA won in the last, like, ten seconds.
- 31:21Speaker 3: It was awesome. Okay. There's winners and losers in sports, Matt.
- 31:25Speaker 3: You're right. You're right. That's on me. I was being
- 31:28Speaker 3: overly sensitive. You were.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Going to be Live Oak.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Thank you. Live Oak's great.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Live Oak's beaten every one of my children in middle
- 31:37Speaker 6: school football.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Every one of them. They got us by like 35
- 31:42Speaker 3: that first game.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Did you hear that, Dick Dixon? He's talking right to you.
- 31:51Speaker 2: That's just you, Dick Dixon, son, please.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Shout out to them.
- 31:54Speaker 6: You know, live on air, sometimes on the fly, you're
- 31:57Speaker 6: trying to figure out how to handle certain things.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Should I say it?
- 32:01Speaker 3: Should I lie? I don't know. You're right. Sports is
- 32:03Speaker 3: two teams.
- 32:03Speaker 2: You're right.
- 32:06Speaker 3: And in fairness, I've said.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Every week that we've lost.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 32:09Speaker 3: I've said every week that we've lost. Yeah, for sure.
- 32:11Speaker 3: It was fun, though. Way to get down.
- 32:17Speaker 4: When you sent us that picture, I was like, wow,
- 32:18Speaker 4: that is a seismic impact.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I was like, oof. Oof.
- 32:23Speaker 4: Hope Huck's okay.
- 32:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Huck was in those trenches. He was in those trenches, man.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Isn't it funny? Every child that we have that plays
- 32:33Speaker 2: tackle football is in the trenches.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Is in the trenches. That's right.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Every one of them. No quarterbacks or running backs.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Trench play, baby.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Huck touched the ball yesterday. Jumped on a fumble. Oh, yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Saved the possession. Yeah, it did. No doubt.
- 32:51Speaker 1: MVP.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Some are saying.
- 32:54Speaker 2: And it's us. We're the ones saying it.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Right here.
- 32:57Speaker 4: The My High Zero MVP.
- 32:59Speaker 2: The My High Zero MVP.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Is that what we gave Tyler Shuck?
- 33:02Speaker 6: Tyler Shuck did win the My High Zero Player of
- 33:05Speaker 6: the Year last year.
- 33:07Speaker 4: But you won't put him on your top ten, huh? Weird.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he was going to come on on Tuesday, but
- 33:12Speaker 2: he's like, hey, I was going to come on, but
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm not on Matt's top ten list of quarterbacks, even
- 33:17Speaker 2: though I lead the NFL in passing yards.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Did you tell him to play better in the first half?
- 33:21Speaker 2: Probably not. He said it's a 60-minute game. He said
- 33:24Speaker 2: there's a reason why we don't play just one half.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Okay, smart, smart. Speaking of.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Just like your team came back last night against Live Oak.
- 33:31Speaker 2: If they would have ended the game in the first half,
- 33:32Speaker 2: you would have lost. But you got played a full game, though.
- 33:35Speaker 6: That's a great point. But speaking of that, what, 830?
- 33:39Speaker 6: We're going to do our quarterback.
- 33:42Speaker 3: It's Wednesday.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Okay, yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 3: A top 10 quarterback ranking. It's the Flynn quarterback ranking.
- 33:47Speaker 4: You made that very clear to us.
- 33:48Speaker 2: You made that so clear last week.
- 33:50Speaker 3: So don't do no we.
- 33:51Speaker 2: The most clear.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Come at me.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Now this week, don't start with we.
- 33:55Speaker 6: Y'all backed me in a corner. This dog gonna fight.
- 34:01Speaker 4: We backed you in a very fair corner, I feel like.
- 34:04Speaker 4: That was BS.
- 34:05Speaker 3: I loved my list.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Nobody else did, so I'm glad you did.
- 34:10Speaker 6: It was a perfect list. What's the main stat? What's
- 34:14Speaker 6: the one stat that matters most? You tell me.
- 34:18Speaker 4: You tell me. Okay, so Matthew Stafford.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Also.
- 34:23Speaker 4: What happened?
- 34:24Speaker 2: He had lost by 20.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 34:26Speaker 6: Also, everybody on that list last week.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Won their game. Except the reigning MVP.
- 34:33Speaker 4: That doesn't matter.
- 34:34Speaker 3: It does.
- 34:35Speaker 6: Why?
- 34:35Speaker 2: You're living in the past, my guy.
- 34:38Speaker 3: He's reigning. He's the MVP all season long.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Do you have Brett Favre on the list, too?
- 34:43Speaker 4: He is the MVP of last season. Not this season.
- 34:46Speaker 4: And he definitely wasn't the MVP of week one.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Who is currently the reigning MVP?
- 34:52Speaker 5: The reigning MVP is Matthew Stafford, and he won the
- 34:55Speaker 5: MVP because of last.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Season, not because of this one. Anyways, justice for Tyler Shuck.
- 35:03Speaker 3: I might leave him off again just to fight.
- 35:06Speaker 2: You don't buck. If he's not on again, then he's
- 35:08Speaker 2: just not going to come on the show, I guess.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I don't blame him.
- 35:11Speaker 4: I don't either.
- 35:11Speaker 5: And unfortunately, due to the fact that we're a foxhole,
- 35:16Speaker 5: we catch the straights for it.
- 35:19Speaker 2: He said, just because y'all think you're number six... In
- 35:22Speaker 2: the mid-market morning sports radio show list that I get
- 35:25Speaker 2: left off your top ten list?
- 35:27Speaker 6: I got news for you. Nobody ever said a foxhole
- 35:29Speaker 6: is comfortable. It's just a hole in the dirt.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I mean, touche.
- 35:37Speaker 3: That's fair. There's no pillows.
- 35:39Speaker 2: 830 is when we got to hear that?
- 35:45Speaker 4: You got to put up with that at 830?
- 35:46Speaker 6: We just got to figure out how to get a
- 35:48Speaker 6: PowerPoint presentation.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Displayed on the screen.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I don't know. Luke's my age. He knows a PowerPoint.
- 35:57Speaker 2: He took ISDS.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Wait, but didn't you just email Taylor something?
- 36:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 3: You emailed him a PowerPoint. Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 2: You want me to make a quick PowerPoint?
- 36:08Speaker 3: No, no.
- 36:08Speaker 2: He's got it made.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Go ahead and make it up real quick.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Make it by 830. No, it's made. He just needs
- 36:13Speaker 4: to get it over to you.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Which seems easy. You're like, okay. But it's him.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Just push the button. You know?
- 36:21Speaker 2: Anyways. So Shuck is maybe, sort of, kind of, going
- 36:25Speaker 2: to come on Tuesday.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Okay. He can't kind of come on.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah, because if he's not on your list, he's not
- 36:30Speaker 2: coming on.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Oh. So it's up to me. Let me just make
- 36:33Speaker 3: some adjustments.
- 36:35Speaker 1: No!
- 36:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 36:37Speaker 2: We'll take a break. Speaking of the New Orleans Saints,
- 36:39Speaker 2: we'll take a look at the Saints game they've got
- 36:41Speaker 2: coming up against Matt Flynn's Las Vegas Raiders when we
- 36:44Speaker 2: come back here on OTP.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 36:47Speaker 3: How dare you?

- 37:43Speaker 6: custom pool, that custom backyard, you think of Russell Pools.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Go to RussellPools.com.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 37:57Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Welcome back in. OTB here live from the Razor Canes studio.
- 38:14Speaker 2: New Orleans Saints taking on the Las Vegas Raiders, or
- 38:17Speaker 2: as we call it here, Matt Flynn's Las Vegas Raiders
- 38:20Speaker 2: at home after two very, very tough places to play
- 38:24Speaker 2: in Detroit, in Baltimore. They come back with a 1-1 record.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Very easily could have been 2-0, but hey, we said it.
- 38:32Speaker 2: If you're 1-1 in those games, when you come back
- 38:33Speaker 2: home against the Raiders, you've done something right, and that's exactly...
- 38:37Speaker 2: what the saints are right now. They were a minus
- 38:39Speaker 2: three favorite at home. So a little bit of a
- 38:41Speaker 2: pick them in home team, getting the three points, the Raiders.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I got to give them credit to, you know, now
- 38:48Speaker 2: they beat the dolphins who again, us four in this
- 38:51Speaker 2: room could give them hell. And then they beat the
- 38:53Speaker 2: chargers who, Oh, maybe by the end of the year,
- 38:56Speaker 2: us four in here could give them hell. Uh, but
- 38:58Speaker 2: still two and oh, two and oh, well take at
- 39:00Speaker 2: least five of us right now. Uh, Kirk cousins is
- 39:04Speaker 2: doing exactly probably what you thought he would do. I mean,
- 39:07Speaker 2: Not setting the world on fire, but stabilizing the situation.
- 39:11Speaker 2: They've got Ashton Gentry certainly much more involved in the offense.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I still love the Saints in this matchup. And I
- 39:21Speaker 2: know the Raiders' defense has been talked about, and they
- 39:24Speaker 2: made a lot of signings. So they thought they had
- 39:27Speaker 2: Max Crosby traded.
- 39:28Speaker 3: It was done. He's gone.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Baltimore. And so they made two free agent signings to
- 39:33Speaker 2: help their edge rusher position because they thought, we don't
- 39:35Speaker 2: have Max anymore. The trade gets called off. They get
- 39:39Speaker 2: Max back.
- 39:40Speaker 3: What a cluster, though.
- 39:40Speaker 2: And they still have the edge rushers that they signed.
- 39:44Speaker 2: So it actually turned into a group. They can kind
- 39:46Speaker 2: of get after you a little bit. The one thing
- 39:48Speaker 2: that makes me nervous about this game for the Saints,
- 39:51Speaker 2: you're going to be without your starting left tackle. And
- 39:54Speaker 2: Max Crosby is as good as you'll see.
- 39:58Speaker 3: In the NFL.
- 39:59Speaker 2: We talk about strain all the time in football. I
- 40:03Speaker 2: don't think any NFL player strains more than Max Crosby.
- 40:06Speaker 6: No. I mean, there's no one that strains more. There's
- 40:09Speaker 6: people that might give it all just like him, but
- 40:12Speaker 6: the guy's good. He's a great athlete, a great leader.
- 40:15Speaker 2: His desire to get to the quarterback is elite.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Look, I was with– I was on my– a couple
- 40:21Speaker 6: years ago, my Kentucky Derby trip that I go, and
- 40:24Speaker 6: Devontae Adams was there.
- 40:26Speaker 2: He had a good day.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he's decent, I guess.
- 40:30Speaker 6: And he was talking about– this was– this might have
- 40:33Speaker 6: been like right after he was– he had left the Raiders.
- 40:35Speaker 3: I can't remember. Or it might have been like the offseason.
- 40:38Speaker 6: He was in between the Raiders and the Rams. And
- 40:42Speaker 6: he was like, Max Crosby might be the best athlete
- 40:44Speaker 6: I've ever played with.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Really?
- 40:46Speaker 6: Just like overall, athlete, can hoop, can do. And that's
- 40:51Speaker 6: a guy that played really good.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Fast, can jump, strong.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Devontae played on really good teams.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Devontae's a pretty good athlete himself. Touche. Decent receiver. Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 6: I think he just, is he tied for 10th in
- 41:03Speaker 6: all-time touchdowns, I think, after this past game?
- 41:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Decent.
- 41:08Speaker 2: He had 200 yards on Monday night, right at it. Yeah.
- 41:11Speaker 3: He's got a nice one. He's your number two.
- 41:14Speaker 6: Anyway, yeah, that's the kind of person you're going against
- 41:17Speaker 6: and without your starting left tackle now.
- 41:20Speaker 3: So they got their work cut out for them. I
- 41:23Speaker 3: don't expect much in the first half.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I don't expect Max Crosby to line up too many
- 41:31Speaker 2: times on Fuego on the right side either.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 41:35Speaker 2: He will some. You will.
- 41:36Speaker 6: You don't want to completely change a game plan just
- 41:39Speaker 6: like in– like overnight just for the week because he's
- 41:43Speaker 6: comfortable doing a lot of different things from both sides.
- 41:45Speaker 3: So you'll see it a little bit.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:48Speaker 3: So, I mean.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Let me throw this one to you then because we
- 41:53Speaker 2: don't like adding numbers to protection just to try to
- 41:57Speaker 2: protect it. It makes it harder. It makes it more
- 41:59Speaker 2: difficult on the quarterback. When you have a rusher like this, though,
- 42:04Speaker 2: so it's not somebody bringing pressure. It's not number five
- 42:06Speaker 2: or number six or sometimes even number seven. It's just
- 42:09Speaker 2: an edge rusher. How much time would y'all spend on chipping,
- 42:13Speaker 2: tight end help? How much of the game plan would
- 42:15Speaker 2: go to, hey, we're going to make sure that somebody
- 42:18Speaker 2: has an off-hang position off your hip just to help
- 42:20Speaker 2: you with Max until you get your feet underneath you?
- 42:23Speaker 2: How did y'all handle that?
- 42:25Speaker 3: If you're not helping any left tackle, whether it's... For sure.
- 42:30Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying, more point of emphasis
- 42:32Speaker 2: throughout the week.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Yeah, there will be.
- 42:34Speaker 6: If you're facing a baller defensive end, then, yeah, you're
- 42:40Speaker 6: going to, in the game plan, you're going to have
- 42:42Speaker 6: different ways to help the tackle, especially if you're playing
- 42:45Speaker 6: with a backup tackle. Now, you're going to, if you're
- 42:48Speaker 6: not giving him help, then you're just doing it wrong
- 42:52Speaker 6: as an offensive coordinator. Now, help doesn't always mean we're
- 42:56Speaker 6: going to block a seven. No.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Or we're going to put a tight end there.
- 42:59Speaker 1: No.
- 42:59Speaker 6: Help means, sometimes it means chipping. So chipping would be
- 43:04Speaker 6: the running back before he gets on his route. He
- 43:06Speaker 6: throws a shoulder into a rib cage or an armpit
- 43:08Speaker 6: or whatever it is or just like shoves him a
- 43:10Speaker 6: little bit or.
- 43:11Speaker 3: A tight end.
- 43:12Speaker 6: I would call it, to me, that's a thump when
- 43:14Speaker 6: a tight end does the chip before you go on
- 43:17Speaker 6: your pass route. Sometimes it's just lining up a tight
- 43:19Speaker 6: end in line or offset and running a route and
- 43:22Speaker 6: he's got to go around them.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Or he's got to go inside.
- 43:24Speaker 2: His body does the chipping, yeah.
- 43:26Speaker 6: His body, like the defensive end, has to work around
- 43:29Speaker 6: that tight end running a route to pass rush. You
- 43:32Speaker 6: can't necessarily go up the field and get outside and
- 43:35Speaker 6: make the turn. You got to go inside, which there's
- 43:37Speaker 6: guard presence there.
- 43:38Speaker 3: So like there's different things.
- 43:39Speaker 6: And then, of course, go like five man protection, scat somebody,
- 43:42Speaker 6: scat somebody through the C gap, sat somebody through the
- 43:44Speaker 6: B gap like that. All those things make a difference.
- 43:48Speaker 6: And and of course, play action pass. You got to
- 43:50Speaker 6: get the run game going to slow these guys down.
- 43:53Speaker 6: Be very at home. You're not going to deal with
- 43:56Speaker 6: crowd noise. Use the snap count.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Use your cadence to your advantage.
- 44:00Speaker 3: The ones that you use with your mouth.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Not the clap.
- 44:04Speaker 3: You stink, clap count.
- 44:06Speaker 2: You suck, clap count. Yeah. So for us, the way
- 44:11Speaker 2: that we used to handle it because our tight end
- 44:14Speaker 2: was a Hall of Famer. So we didn't really want
- 44:16Speaker 2: him chipping edge rushers and that being like Gates was
- 44:20Speaker 2: going to get out into his route, right? So if
- 44:22Speaker 2: we're in 21 personnel, it was going to be the fullback.
- 44:25Speaker 2: And instead of running, we talked about this yesterday during
- 44:27Speaker 2: our film review, like instead of running a flare, like
- 44:30Speaker 2: a full flare, we called it an M route where
- 44:32Speaker 2: it looked kind of like a U almost. It's just
- 44:35Speaker 2: kind of, it's just a shorter kind of, you give
- 44:38Speaker 2: your hand presence chip and then you just kind of
- 44:40Speaker 2: turn it into a half flare almost. And so that's
- 44:43Speaker 2: how we changed it up. So you don't have to
- 44:44Speaker 2: change up the whole game plan. You just kind of
- 44:46Speaker 2: change that one route and you knew if you had
- 44:48Speaker 2: an M route, not a flare, then you need to
- 44:50Speaker 2: give real presence. And some, look, some tackles wanted you
- 44:54Speaker 2: to give, That defensive end, everything you had in the ribs.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Some didn't want you to touch him. They just wanted
- 44:59Speaker 2: you to be there for presence because they felt like
- 45:02Speaker 2: if you hit him, then you knocked them off.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:04Speaker 6: And sometimes, like, if you're sitting there and it's a
- 45:06Speaker 6: six-man protection and now all things are equal and you
- 45:09Speaker 6: got a Mike and you got a nickel out left
- 45:10Speaker 6: and you got a Sam to the right, and then
- 45:13Speaker 6: you are just sitting there and you're like, all right,
- 45:16Speaker 6: nobody's blitzing. Instead of just going Mike in the middle,
- 45:18Speaker 6: I'm going to go Mike left so I can get
- 45:20Speaker 6: a guard slide and a little guard. give him a
- 45:23Speaker 6: little left-hand presence over there. So there's a lot of
- 45:25Speaker 6: like little subtleties you can do to help. But again,
- 45:27Speaker 6: Max is going to get his, he's going to make
- 45:29Speaker 6: his place.
- 45:29Speaker 3: He's good.
- 45:30Speaker 2: All right. Hour two OTB coming right back your way
- 45:33Speaker 2: off the bench.
- 45:34Speaker 3: All right.
