It's time for the show. Get ready. Gird your loins.
• 0:05
  [upbeat music] Welcome, welcome, welcome.
• 0:22
Hey, everybody, it's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 183. Nothing clever. I think it's
• 0:31
like the fruit fly time of year, 'cause there's a, there's an orbiting thing here somewhere little- Yeah, the pests like to come indoors. [laughs] I don't know. My, my in- Earth- My insane bobcat wants to...
• 0:43
It's like- Oh, man... like flying into the fricking screen door, w- window trying- To get- Trying to get 'em... flying critters. Yeah. It's entertaining in a very anxiety-ridden way, kinda way.
• 0:57
So across, across the table over there from me is JK. Hello, everybody. Name's Fenn. Hi, Fenn. What? Wait. Where, where's the other guy?
• 1:07
[laughs] Tony's running a little late today, so we'll see if he pops in in a little bit. "Damn teenagers," he says. Damn- [laughs] yeah, damn teenagers. Not sure what that means.
• 1:18
Well, that's like- Probably his daughter... that's like Lund saying, "Can't stop pooping. I'll be late." [laughs] Which works famously. Right on, right on. I've, I've used that myself since then. Oh, boy.
• 1:30
Well, I'm, it's Wednesday. Feeling a little better. [laughs] Steel Is Real was, uh, Saturday, last week.
• 1:38
There's something about that ride that there's, like, always a built-in calamity-ish- I think- For me, so, at least... well, that, yeah. I think mine ended up better than yours in this case. Yeah.
• 1:50
But in the past couple years [laughs] I've noticed I've, there's always been some sort of bruise, scrape, either- Oh, speak of the purple-haired devil. There he is... physical and/or emotional and/or- Although-...
• 2:04
financial and/or- Technically you don't even have to be here yet, 'cause we're talking about Steel Is Real, which you missed. Tony- I was busy. I was busy. So we ju- yeah, we just started talking- So was I...
• 2:18
wanna hear, wanna hear about a recap? I was getting busy. So this was a very- I need food. I need to eat food on su- said ride. I don't know. That kind of, that kind of- Pre-ride food.
• 2:27
You're not getting- Pre, during, and whate- Yeah... and whatever. Is that why- That's what I mean... you have a new phone? Yeah. Figure. In, well, a contributing factor.
• 2:34
[laughs] So this was a very impromptu ride, but, uh, I think I sent five people maybe a, "Come on down and goof around with us if you wanna do a Steel Is Real," sort of chastising year.
• 2:51
What's, what's, what's my term? [laughs] Uh- Wagging my finger at the people who complained last year. [laughs] Uh, so yeah. So yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 3:00
We met at Hollander traditionally and I think over the course of the day we had over 20 folks. Nice. Yes. Yeah. And it was, uh, it was a good ride. I thought we had a good time. Yeah, yeah.
• 3:11
And I was surprised in terms of- There-... uh, getting back towards the Bay View zone. That was a very efficient, taking Becher all the way. [whooshes] Yeah.
• 3:23
And didn't, like, [laughs] really have to think about anything. It was like zig over to Becher, and Becher was pretty cool all the way down. Yeah, I mean- [laughs] Our show is- So that- That was good.
• 3:33
The- But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Right. The general- [laughs]... the general idea was Hollander traditionally, and we didn't do the traditional bike pageantry. Beforehand, incidentally.
• 3:45
Beforehand, which was- I mean, Kenny had a breakfast and a bloody, so- Yeah, yeah. But we-... that justified our existence to loiter- Which I didn't-... on, on the street... I didn't tell him we were coming anyway, so.
• 3:54
Exactly. [laughs] But it, there was no, uh, bagel wheel/rust bucket/ whatever, whatever- Awarding... whatever. Awarding, and my original plan was to judge the people, but [laughs]
• 4:07
I think I only, I passed out a few things for people being cool, not for- That came later, too. Yeah, I guess that came later. Well, well, yeah. So, yeah. Well, the passing out, but that was [laughs] nothing. Yeah.
• 4:16
So we, uh- [laughs] Yeah, yeah, we did a nice, did a nice ride through the east side to Nomad and- Yeah. I mean, you could go straight to Nomad, but you take the Waxton Groovy. Yeah, of course.
• 4:27
Like we did last, last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kinda deal. Yeah. And then, uh, quick stop down at the Palapa. Yep. And- Picked up, uh, some Berta and Mike on the way- Yeah, yeah... from there. Met some folks there.
• 4:40
Uh, Zito made an appearance and then had to peel off for something else. Yeah. Who? That guy. That guy. [laughs] And then- And- And then the high-speed burn out to Lucky's Ice House.
• 4:52
Yeah, Lucky's Ice House, uh, is- How was the food? The food was very good I thought. I don't- [laughs] I didn't eat that day. You should have eaten some food, Michael. I know, I know.
• 5:00
I'm saying- It was a food stop for a reason... I'm telling you. I, hey, I am f- completely self-aware of my faults on this one.
• 5:08
[laughs] Well, uh, so, so Lucky's Ice House is right near our f- our fabulous, um, Am Fam Field or whatever they call that place now. Yeah. Miller Park. Down to stadium.
• 5:16
And it is, uh, a very easy stop for a lot of these rides, and we've been there before, but now it's under new ownership. And we met the, the Tom and the Amber owners, and it was,
• 5:30
if a little slow, very good food and a great stop I thought. Yeah. It worked out very nicely. And, uh, then we headed to another, a first stop for me, in fact.
• 5:41
I, I know Jordan that owns Trailer Park, but I've never been there. Yeah. I've been next, yeah, I've been near it. It's a black, blackbird- I've been near it... or something next door and- Yeah.
• 5:48
I've been near it or across the street or at a house right by it. Uh, that's a pretty cool place. Mm-hmm.
• 5:55
What I didn't realize when I told Jordan, I said, "Ah, we're gonna have 15, 20 people sliding through 2 o'clock-ish," I didn't realize that they weren't open yet, and he'd have to open it for us- Oh, yeah...
• 6:05
which I later learned on when we were running a little bit late. Oh, man. But it was nice of him to open up and I think, uh, Bartender Tim didn't- Well-... have too much of a grindy hat- Well, that was the thing.
• 6:17
Uh, Kim, Kim met us down there Oh, true that... at there. And [laughs] so apparently she went down there
• 6:25
to meet us there, and like, um, I, or I don't know if she looked it up and going like, "Well, apparently they don't, they don't open till 4:00." Right. Or she- Stop there... and she was, like, just by herself. Yeah.
• 6:35
Yeah. And so- Yeah, I just, I, I, I just was kinda giving him a heads-up, 'cause I thought- Yeah... they opened at 11:00. I'm, I'm giving him a heads-up that a few people are gonna stop through.
• 6:42
Not gonna be a big deal, but don't be surprised, and, and- Right, right... they don't open till whatever. Yeah.
• 6:47
Well, yeah, and then I fol- when you said it, then I followed up with her, and I don't know if she just said the words like, "Hey, I'm with the bike ride. Let me in"- Yeah... kind of thing. Yeah, that's good- Right...
• 6:56
'cause she kinda pre- Yeah... pre-sold our little show up. [laughs] Hey, guess what? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Oh, oh, oh, oh. I'm gonna push a button. I'm gonna- Well, that was the end of the ride, technically.
• 7:06
Technically. [cackles] Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who's cackling on the line? Oh, this is, uh, Big Sexy. How y'all doing? Big Sexy. Big Sexy.
• 7:18
Fully, fully recovered from my, uh, non-incident with a vehicle, thank you for your concern. Yeah, well, okay, well, it's- Last time you called in [laughs]...
• 7:26
it's, I don't, I don't know who, uh, Greg Smith is, but, uh, this, apparently, uh, he got hit with a, a moped in, uh, in New Orleans. And, um, I, I, I seriously don't know who this dude is. Oh, another Greg Smith?
• 7:40
But it was bad. Heaven forbid that. I, I thought I was the only one. [laughs] It's, it's such an uncommon name. Yeah. [laughs] Well, I pu- I pulled out the phone book and said, "Well, who could it be?"
• 7:49
[laughs] Did you get to the bottom of the mystery? No. [laughs] But as long as it wasn't you, I don't care. [laughs] No, no, I'm fine except for self-induced, uh, things. I'm, I'm as fit as a fiddle. Mm. Good deal.
• 8:06
Well, and, and so am I. But I got big news. Um, I, uh, I'm gonna park the bike for the winter up here in St. Paul. I'm staying with my sister, and I got a big boy job at Cub Foods. Oh, wow. All right.
• 8:20
So you're gonna, you're gonna- Yes, I'm gonna be working, work, be working the overnight stock at Cub Foods for the winter and, uh- I did that...
• 8:26
then I think I might head to North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. Well, that's a good- Nice... starting spot. Saves you about 1,500 miles of pedaling. Yeah. Right. Yeah, good call.
• 8:37
Yeah, better than starting in New Orleans again. I, I did that job, Big Sexy. I did overnight stock. Where did you do- Yeah, that's crazy, huh? Where did you do it?
• 8:46
I did it at a place called County Market, but yeah, we were- Oh, nice... we were a Cubs subsidiary. We, it was a 24-hour store and, yeah. Oshkosh, by gosh. I got, I got, I got you beat on that. Uh-oh.
• 8:56
Third shift stocking. I've- Toys "R" Us, baby. Oh, yeah. Did you push stuff off the shelf and let the box break open- No, I got assigned-... and play with it and stuff?
• 9:04
I got assigned the baby doll, the powder, the talcum powder-smelling baby doll aisle. Sucked. Oh. [laughs] It sucked. I came back just smelling like I was, like, a freshly powdered baby every- Set you up for meeting-...
• 9:17
fucking morning... like, Posh Spice or somebody later in life. Oh, man, maybe... no, it was really, I mean, I'd never thought that there would be, like,
• 9:24
jockeying for positions of, like, which aisle that you wanted to stock. The, yeah, I'm sure. Oh, man, did it suck. So that's awesome, Big Sexy.
• 9:32
How long you gonna, how long you planning on being there before you get back on the saddle? Oh, um, proba- I, I mean, spring and summer come, come a little bit later up this way,
• 9:44
so I'm, I'm guessing, you know, once, once the weather gets nicer, I mean, unless I, like, you know, if I got me an old lady and a, and a dog, and a, and a place to live and all that shit, I might, you know, I might stick around, but I'll still take rides and shit.
• 9:55
Sure. Um, but, um, another one, one thing was I, I took a wonderful ride from my sister's here in, uh, St. Paul, uh, all the way out to my brother.
• 10:06
My brother lives on Lake Minnetonka, and I, I took a ride way out there and, uh, Minnesota River Valley, and the Mississippi River, and all, yeah, all those rivers and all those hills.
• 10:16
And, um, so Heather's, uh, front rim decided to split, and, uh, w- when the front tire's slowly inflated, it bulges out. Mm-hmm.
• 10:26
So I have to, un- until I get a new rim, I'm gonna, I have to ride with, like, a half-inflated tire. Oh, okay. But, um, but, but that's, you know, she's, she's fucking tired.
• 10:38
She wants to, she kind of wants to sit in the garage for the winter, I'm, I'm guessing. Gives you a chance to tech it up and polish- Yeah... her real good, make sure she's bathed fresh- Yeah, man... for the spring.
• 10:49
Right, and I got, and I'm gonna have some money coming in to do it. What, what size is that front wheel? I bet you I got three of them. [laughs] 20, 26 inch. 26? Uh, 26, 26 inch, yeah. Oh.
• 10:59
Yeah, it's, I'm, like I said, it's not gonna be hard to find a rim, but I mean,
• 11:03
I'm, I'm just kind of just starting, I'm starting this new job on Friday, and doing orientation and shit like that, so I got, I got no time for this shit, so. Right on. Cool.
• 11:14
Isn't Minnesota a state where they actually pay you halfway decent to do a job like that, too? Yeah. Yeah, it's, uh, it's union, too, so. Yep. No, hell yeah.
• 11:23
You got, you got a whole, a, a whole lot more, uh, benefits and stuff like that, um, with the union. Unfortunately, uh, just, uh, a couple years ago they, they, uh, they dropped the Sunday is time and a half thing. Oh.
• 11:39
Um, r- Wow... uh, not too long ago, Su- Sundays were time and a half, and you were working o- you, you working overtime on Sunday, you were getting paid double time. Yeah. Yep, that was the way it was for me.
• 11:51
And that's, and w- I worked at a grocery store, I worked at a grocery store right when I turned 21, and they were 12-hour shifts, 6:00, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and my first seven days I didn't have a day off. Mm-hmm.
• 12:04
And then my next, my next seven days of that pay period, I had one day off, so I, I, I had 13 out, out of 14 days, two Sundays, almost all overtime. Was there 12-hour shifts- I was in the box like, "I can't do this, man.
• 12:19
I, I, I quit." I- And then I quit, and then I came and picked, I picked up my check the next Friday. [laughs] And I opened the envelope and I said, and I said, "What have I done?" [laughs] Yeah. Yeah.
• 12:29
Hey, hey boss, can I have my job back, please? [laughs] Yeah, and, and he laughed, he laughed at me.
• 12:35
[laughs] Well, I think I've mentioned this in the past when I was working out in Las Vegas, we had that, you know, 12 to 15-hour day thing, basically two days off in three months, and I, I called it concentrated evil, but it was a fun job, and boy do you make bank when you're working that many hours.
• 12:53
Yeah. It's good stuff. Yeah. Well, I was tw- I was 21, and I w- and I went, "Man, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, there's no time to fucking drink, party or nothing. You know, I can't see my friends." Yeah.
• 13:04
And that, that's what was important to me back then. And that is since not that important anymore? Is that what you're saying? Right. Yeah. I'd, I'd say w- you know, work it, work and get the money. Fuck my friends.
• 13:18
[laughs] Anyway. [laughs] No, man, so I'm really sorry I didn't, uh, bring my wheels down to Milwaukee this year, but, uh, m- of, of course, there, there's always a chance I can
• 13:30
make it over there some- somehow, some way. Yeah, I think the Hiawatha comes down here. There's some Amtrak version- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm... of a train that isn't really that big a deal to get to Milwaukee, so.
• 13:40
It's the last leg of the Empire Builder. Right. Yeah. Is it the Hiawatha? Yeah. No, that's the one that goes to Chicago.
• 13:45
Anyway, but yeah, it comes from Minneapolis through La Crosse and whatnot, and ends up here right at our front door almost. Yep. Yeah.
• 13:53
Well, yeah, so, uh, I'm, uh, that's, that's where I'm, I'm gonna be for, for the winter. 'Cause I, I had to, you know, I had to pretty much tell my sister, like, "Okay, if you agree to this, then now I got...
• 14:05
You know, once the snow starts flying, I can't just-" [laughs] "... get on my bike and ride." Mm-hmm. You know? Well, good. I'm glad you- And, uh, I'm gonna- Glad you have a sister that- I'm gonna be stuck here, so.
• 14:13
[laughs] Right on. Cool. Well, anything else you wanna- That's it, yeah... lay on us, or you wanna get ready for your first sh- [laughs] first shift at Cub Foods? [laughs] Well, I, I, I missed the first part of that.
• 14:28
Just if you got anything further to report, or, you know- Oh, no... catch up with us and tell us how the job's going and...
• 14:36
Yeah, well, I'll call, I'll call y'all, I'll call y'all back in a couple weeks or something like that, and I'll give you, give you a rundown. Copy, copy. All right. Well, congratulations. All right.
• 14:45
It sounds like this might be something that's really gonna be good overall for the, you know, near term anyway. Yeah. And the voyage. Yeah, absolutely. I- I'm, I've gotta get some income and, you know,
• 14:58
and, and do this for real. All right, man. Well, thanks for calling. We'll talk to you soon. All right. All right. Talk to you guys soon. Take it easy, y'all. See ya. Big sexy, everybody. Sexy. Well, it's good to hear.
• 15:13
I'm glad that he's got a little stability in the old- Yeah... lifestyle up there in Minneapolis. The Little Apple. Don't get up there often enough in my opinion. Me neither.
• 15:24
I love it, but every time I go I have a great time, but then I just don't go back for a while. Isn't that the same weekend as Frost Bike? Oh. [laughs] Speaking of Frost Bike, this has nothing to do with it.
• 15:34
There's, there's three Cab Da shows this year. There's one in the west in January. There's one here if you wanna go again, Tony, 'cause- Chi-town? Yeah, in Chicago. Well, northern Chicago.
• 15:46
And then out on the east coast in March. Isn't that called Milwaukee? Yeah. [laughs] Where, uh- Where it's, uh- Uh, what day is your, your... February, I th- here it's February 8th and 9th, or s- somewhere in there.
• 15:57
It's the same weekend as Frost Bike. It's in the February... It's, it's the same weekend as Frost Bike. [laughs] Duh. [bell rings] Oh, cling, cling. We made it finally. Is that a cowbell I hear? Yeah, it's a very,
• 16:11
very pensive, pensive bell. [laughs] We're, uh, we're delving deep into the stored hams in the refrigerator today, which in my personal opinion is the perfect beer for today. Mm-hmm.
• 16:24
I didn't need anything more high test than this today. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yes. Thank you for replying that you had... [laughs] Ample supply of Ham's beer in the fridge.
• 16:33
I was like, I was like, "Oh, man, if I gotta stop at the store, I don't have, I don't have enough brain power in the tank just to get something, whatever," and I didn't wanna test my limits. So after- [laughs]...
• 16:44
after, uh, after the trailer park and the... Then we went to the Bayview Bash for the Steel is Real thing. Yeah. Getting back to that. Uh, which was, I mean, it was crowded and fine. It was crowded as hell.
• 16:55
And we got there kind of at an inopportune moment since the band I wanted to see was, had, like, two songs left. Oh. And then- Who was that?... there was a, uh, The Growlers. Mm-hmm.
• 17:05
And then there was a long switchover, and then the band that went after them, I'm like, "Meh, I think I'll just go to Sabbatic for a while." [laughs] Who were they? Don't know. Uh- I can't remember. Radio Radio? Nope.
• 17:17
No, no, no. There, there were a, a handful of names I was not familiar with. There was one, like, after we left Trailer Park, whatever that [groans] Milwaukee Record stage I wanna say it is, it was a good band.
• 17:29
I'd have to kinda reverse engineer to the time. [laughs] Right. Well, this wasn't Juicebox's new band playing? Yeah, they closed out one of the stages, Rust Belt. Okay. Yeah, that's- Didn't stay there that late...
• 17:40
didn't stay there long enough. Nowhere near that late. No, no. That was just not in the cards. I mean- Now, when you start a ride at 10:00 in the morning- Yeah... that's getting pretty late to ask- Yeah...
• 17:47
to stay till 11:00 at night, you know? I mean, Con- Yeah... I mean, Convert w- was, like, up there. Oh, cool. You did see Convert? I... Oh, hell no. Oh. I would've loved to, but- Yeah, but I couldn't.
• 17:55
Yeah, I wouldn't have been able to... it just, the body was not gonna allow that whatsoever. Sam rolled by my place pretty early. He was on the ride for a little bit, and then he did the strongman thing. I think we...
• 18:04
I don't know. Yeah, he, uh- Maybe we ran into him down there. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, he... Yeah, he pulled the rip cord at, at the palapa.
• 18:12
So instead of going west to Lucky's, he went right down to the bay- He did a strongman competition. He was a, a helper, not a participant.
• 18:20
Yeah, so- But yeah, I mean, I've- Actually, I think he skipped it all together [laughs] I pulled the rest of the guy out of there. Well, the guy that he was gonna help decided to bail on it, too. Mm-hmm.
• 18:28
So, I think he didn't feel that bad [laughs] about it. Right. Yeah, we got out, or I got out of there about 7:00. Okay. And then lily padded back. [laughs] The lily padding took some effort. Oh, hell yeah.
• 18:41
Well, and I landed... Well, I landed at S- uh, at Sabbatic right at 7:00. Now, if you're familiar with Sabbatic, they have a- If, if you come to Milwaukee, you should be familiar with Sabbatic...
• 18:52
they have a 7:00 happy hour, or a happy 15 minutes, where essentially everything is $1. Wow. And you get, like, two things. Including the Macallan or whatever the best- Yeah... whiskey or scotch you can buy.
• 19:06
I mean, it's like a beer and a shot. It's a beer and a shot or two beers or maybe two shots. Sure. Or, or just a drink or something like that. Um, normally, I- Oh... normally I just do it as a beer and a shot- Right...
• 19:20
kind of thing. Sounds makes sense. And the, you know, the bartender normally get, reads the riot act big time. You know, like, "This is what we do. We're losing money. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
• 19:29
You know, know what you're gonna order." Fair enough. But I was a good boy on that part. I mean, I was like, "Hams and shot of Tully." I mean, maybe that part wasn't the best part of it, but the hams was.
• 19:42
Otherwise, it's, they have some high-power good stuff there, too. But yeah, so that worked out. So instead of, whatever, [laughs] $3 for the combo platter, it was $2. Whoa. Yeah.
• 19:54
[laughs] That's saving you 33 and a 33 cents. Leaves you, leaves you a dollar for a tip. So I only stuck around there for that, and I was like, "No, if I stick around, I'm gonna- Have a hard time getting home?
• 20:03
Well, yeah. That, it, it's wont to do that. Somehow between there and the freeway, some sort of mayhem, like, it's like the shot hits landfall. Right. It's like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Uh-oh.
• 20:17
So I went underneath the train tracks where all the stalactite poops and whatever are, and made that smell better for a little bit- Oh... just to get my- Uh-... get my bearings... the one right before you cross over St.
• 20:30
Paul there? No, in between Second and First. It's further over there. Gotcha, gotcha. Un- like, on your way to Purple Door. Gotcha. Makes no sense- Yeah, yeah... to anybody else listening to this at home. Exactly.
• 20:41
[laughs] I mean, I'm telling you exactly what I, I mean- Except people that were on the ride. Yeah. You'd know exactly what I'm talking about if you know exactly what I'm talking about.
• 20:48
Yeah, I was trying to do a little alley riding on the, on the ride, but I was really kinda using the force. I didn't, I didn't... w- 'cause we didn't pre-ride it at all.
• 20:55
Yeah, coming, coming, coming out of, uh, uh, Pulapa, there was some alley riding. Yeah. Little Zito. Yeah. Little Zito path. I was like a little bit of this, a little bit of that.
• 21:03
I was like, "I don't even remember where the turn..." Even when we were getting out by, uh, by Lucky's, I'm like, "I, u- we just have to get across National." [laughs] We'll be, we'll be all fine.
• 21:14
And, and then we have to... Oh, I, God, I guess we have to get across Greenfield, too. Shit. Huh, all right. Well, we'll, we'll be fine.
• 21:20
Hey, speaking of interesting things that might happen, including crossing National, what about, uh, pedestrianizing Brady Street? Brady Street. Have you seen that, uh- Oh, yes...
• 21:30
that master plan that's been around for a while? Dude, all you do is take the fucking State Street, Madison blueprint. Yeah, yep. Boom, apply. Done. Throw a bus and a, a, and a delivery truck in there- Delivery...
• 21:41
and you're good to go. Yeah. But it won't, it- It seems, it, it seems to have some legs, but it won't- Well, and the alderman is- Nothing, nothing's gonna happen for 10 years... he's, he's pretty, he's,
• 21:51
he's pretty much a go-getter. Well, there's more pop, pop, popping going on down there than you'd like to see- Yeah... so maybe that'll- It, you know, five years... terminate some of that. Who knows? I don't know.
• 22:00
In five years, then. It's, for, for as, as fancy a neighborhood as that is, you'd, you know. You know, I grew up over there- Yeah... two blocks from there.
• 22:07
It wasn't very fancy when everybody was lying against, uh, light poles and drooling on the sidewalk back in [laughs] the olden times. Is that because of the mental institution, or just because it was a car lot?
• 22:17
No, it's just the heroin was really easy to get down there- Mm-hmm... on Brady Street [laughs] back in the old days. Mm-hmm. Until some gentrifying- Till Breeze's closed... people. Yeah, oh, yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
• 22:29
I think I w- I, I was there the night that, that closed. Yeah, it was the night that... [laughs] The night Milwaukee died. [laughs] Hey, nobody, I mean, nobody mentioned...
• 22:38
So Michael, uh, is like, "How the hell do I get in where we're doing the podcast," 'cause we're, we reconfigured the shoppie again. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it looks great, too, by the way. I forgot to tell you that.
• 22:47
Uh, doesn't it, though? Yeah. I, that took a couple- I- I'm not sure if we can capture it in photos, but we did finally swing- I-...
• 22:52
one wall 90 degrees that needed to be swung 90 degrees, and I'm now questioning- I know... the, the, if the white room with black curtain studio here is gonna survive my let's make more space plan. Yeah. Huh, huh.
• 23:04
I'm not- Yeah, th- this is, like, the time out room. Yeah, I know. It's just- Right... this is like the... Yeah. Oh, yes. Gets pretty warm with three people in it just jabbering, too. Does it?
• 23:11
It's a little toasty right now. Pretty nice today. It's gorgeous outside. Yeah, I just- Nice day... I, I don't know.
• 23:16
I think, you know, the few days that it was really warm and we had the AC in here, I'm not sure if it being more open wouldn't have just been good enough- Just as good... right? You got more air on it- Right, right...
• 23:25
and stuff. A fan. So I don't know. Anybody need an eight by eight, uh, safe room in their house? We could probably move this sucker. [laughs] I think it's literally eight feet cube. Mm. Height, width, depth,
• 23:39
blah, blah, blah. Mm-hmm. Some, some lucky warehouse manager spent his- Life behind a desk... seven hours and 52 minutes every single day in this place with the air conditioning [laughs] on. Probably.
• 23:54
Back when this was a fully productive building un- unlike now. Does this have a... It has a window, doesn't it? Oh, yeah, this is, that's what these black curtains are for. Oh. These are windows. [laughs] Oh.
• 24:06
I thought it was just for effect. Yeah, we, we're, we're keeping the... Well, it's also for somewhat sound deadening, but if we move this- Well, I mean, yeah, okay...
• 24:13
if we move this into the main part of the shop, I think we'll be, it'll be fine. This is the time out room. Yeah. You've been a naughty customer. Go- Go in there... back in there. Make your decisions, and then come out.
• 24:22
We'll put you... Yes, [laughs] we'll throw in three cobras and a muskrat and see who comes out. [laughs]I don't know how, how did Tony... Tony, how did you find this bring back the tall bike story?
• 24:33
It's like, uh, I know they- It showed up in my feed... I know they're still around. I mean- Yeah, but when's the last time you saw someone in Milwaukee riding one? Not in Milwaukee so much. Right.
• 24:42
I think the last time I actually physically noticed one here is when the Minneapolis folks came down with Mary Ellen- Oh, yeah, Riverwest 24... and her friends. That one?
• 24:51
No, it was, uh- No, Fat- Uh, may- maybe it was Steel is Real... I don't, yeah, I think it was the Steel is Real. Oh, I must have missed that one. Back in the olden times.
• 24:57
Yeah, the what w- what, I don't, forget what they're called up there, some- Eh, when I hear it I'll remember... Bike Mafiaville- Eh... Bike Black, not Bike Black Bluey. No, but it's close. We're in there. Yeah.
• 25:09
It's some sort of I wish we were a motorcycle gang and piss all over ourself kind of a thing. Yeah, yeah. It was jackets and patches kind of thing. Jackets and pa- Strong...
• 25:15
Oh, and the best of, the greatest thing [laughs] was, I don't know, there was some prospect, I guess they have prospects kind of like a motorcycle club. And the kid had a leather jacket on with
• 25:27
the head tube badges from a bunch of bikes over his heart, like put on with safety pins or something. I'm like, "What the hell's that?" He goes, "That's for when I joust," and I just blasted him with- [laughs]...
• 25:38
my right fist right into his thing. I said, "Does that work?" [laughs] He go down? He hit the wall, 'cause it was like three feet behind him. [laughs] Nice. Yeah, get on your tall bike and joust.
• 25:52
Uh, but you know, I, it is such a- Yeah... interesting subculture and- Mm-hmm... we don't really wanna say that it's- I mean, if they're on a bike, I like them. Right, yeah.
• 26:01
And so they, I mean- And they're, you know, not being a jackass... and as far as tall bikes go, in the pictures in this one, that's the tallest bike I've ever seen, the dude riding in one of those pictures.
• 26:09
It's like 11 feet tall. Oh, shit. Did you see that, uh, that son of a bitch coming out of Vulture Space- [laughs]... way the hell back? Oh, yeah, he was touring on it, right? With the dog in the lower pan.
• 26:20
Well, yeah, there was like, it was like a car- like a, yeah, a tall cargo bike. It had like the f- oh, man It was insane.
• 26:27
Well, this one, yeah- 'Cause they hauled all their shit to Esterbook for that Mario Kart crit many moons ago, like 11 years ago. I think the 11-footer looked like he had his laundry out on there or something- Maybe...
• 26:39
drying out or something like that. [laughs] Maybe it was his coat. I'll show you a video after the show- Brian... and you can put it in the notes, that has the tallest tall bike I've ever seen. All right.
• 26:46
So tall bikes are still a thing, that's good. I think, uh, I, the, the, the- I get vertigo just looking at those fucking things... well, the ingenuity and the- Yeah...
• 26:54
s- engineering and- And the balance of the person riding it... just don't know how you get out At least it's not like a swing bike. And yeah, they have- Remember seeing a couple of those?
• 27:01
They have, those are in this clip too. Oh, man, that just makes- That just makes you hurt. Yeah, it hurts everything. Hurt myself- Yeah... today... apparently, yeah, that's what, uh- Yeah... Nine Inch Nails- To see it...
• 27:12
were- I still feel you... closed out Riot Fest this year. I think it's- Surprise... on the brink. Yeah. I love Nine Inch Nails, but I would n- I- The only thing that's real. I would've gone to Red Rocks.
• 27:25
I'm not gonna go to the fucking Riot Fest. I think, uh, Shatner- I mean- Doesn't Shatner do a good version of that song? Yes, he does. Yes, he does. Really? Oh, yeah. All right. Find the Shatner.
• 27:35
You'll s- you'll get the version. I don't know why Walken hasn't put his damn dulcet tones to music yet. I just, I, I finished The Outlaws- [laughs]... which is- I was just wondering...
• 27:44
it's an Amazon Prime thing, so pretty much everybody has that by now, don't they? I don't know what that is. But- It, it comes free with my phone. Eh. [laughs] There you go. Your new phone. But, uh- Yes...
• 27:55
but Christopher Walken is an integral part of this show, and it's certainly worth checking out if you are a Chris- Christopher fan. I, I read that he has absolutely no digital presence.
• 28:05
Like, he does not have a cellphone, he doesn't have a computer. [laughs] He's like- That much doesn't surprise me. He's probably a smart guy that way. Right. Been married to his wife forever.
• 28:14
It's like, it's a good story. He's a good dude. He's gotta be in late '70s era, hey? Maybe. I don't know if he's that, quite that old. He's- Well, he's not like- He might be early '70s, but- He's not young like us...
• 28:24
yeah. Oh, yeah, not at all. [laughs] Not at all. Yeah. All right, everybody, that call from Big Sexy- Big Sexy... that, uh, that checking out the last week. Hey, Andor. Oh. I wanted to know about this.
• 28:35
What do you know about Andor and Ondor? I watched the first episode. Did you already? It was supposed to have started- Yeah... Wednesday. It's Saddam, what is it? It's, it's a- It's-... Star Wars thingy...
• 28:46
it's on Disney Plus. I don't remember. It's, uh, yeah. Is that the planet they blow up? No. What's that one? Uh, what? When Leia, it's like a- Alderaan... billion people all screaming at once. Alderaan.
• 29:02
Ah, yeah, same thing. Well, same universe. [laughs] All right. This is based off a character from Rogue One, which is reinventing a, like, two-sentence blurb in the opening crawl of the first Star Wars. You know?
• 29:17
That- "Oh, there's been a civil war," or, "Death Star plans have been stolen," and something else, and they were able to make a movie called Rogue One out of that that filled the gaps between, between- It's good that they can pull those out of a- So now this Andor-...
• 29:29
tidbit... was a, was a character in what they created out of that, and making a backstory out of that. So that's really- Sounds like profit...
• 29:39
somewha- Have you ever seen that- It's, it's, it's butter being spread over quite a bit of bread... have you ever seen that movie- [laughs]... It's Like Ants, where they got a bunch of ants, animated ants?
• 29:47
I am aware- I bet they were a backstory from somewhere in some Star Wars universe at some point. [laughs] Yeah. Or they will be. Or they will [laughs] be- It'll be tied into it somehow... yeah. [laughs] You know?
• 29:57
And then- Yes... and then in one extra layer it will be Fade Into You by Mazzy Star, 'cause on the long- Oh... enough timeline, all roads back, lead back to Mazzy Star.
• 30:07
It's funny 'cause James was helping me on the house on Saturday 'cause I was busy, and Mazzy Star came on and we both commented that. [laughs] We were thinking of you at that moment.
• 30:17
[laughs] So since every road leads back to Mazzy Star, couldn't, you know, couldn't we do like a, a six degrees of Kevin Bacon to get them to sing it so it's, like, really convoluted? Ah. And, [laughs]
• 30:30
and there you go, folks. Let that- Oh, this one's weird... let that roll around in your noodle until next week when we- This one's, uh- Weird... when we're most likely gonna be here again.
• 30:38
Hopefully Tony's not late this time, but- Yeah, it's true. Fuck. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Bye. Bye bye.
• 30:45
  [upbeat music]
