- 0:02SPEAKER_00: The year 2020 is going to go down in history, of course, as one of the craziest years that any of us have ever lived through.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Not only do we have the pandemic, we also have a very contentious political year.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: We've had hurricanes, wildfires, mass unemployment, and just all kinds of upheaval and social disruption happening all around the world.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And it's been absolutely crazy.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Now, obviously, all those things have a very negative side, but there is almost always something positive embedded within the negative.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And in this case, I think 2020 represents for you and for me a year when we can make pivots if we need to.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: You know, a lot of times we we take a look around in our lives and we have accumulated ideas, we've accumulated sometimes relationships, we've accumulated habits and ways of doing things that really aren't service that really aren't serving us well anymore.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: When I went down into my basement this morning, I saw a lot of clutter.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And to be honest with you, it's pretty bad.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And I need to really clean it out.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: But it struck me that, man, we do we do the same thing in our lives.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We accumulate clutter.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And 2020 is an excellent time to look at the clutter in our lives and to just do a total clean sweep.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I know that things have changed for me in my business this year for sure, as I have really leaned into ghostwriting and I'm getting ready to launch actually tomorrow, and I'll talk about that in a second.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I'm getting ready to launch a new version of this podcast called The Daily Writer, and I'm moving away from the smart business writing branding of it.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: My wife is going to be undergoing a substantial change in her job.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: One way or the other, there's some things that are up in the air with her job.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: So she's definitely going to be going through a major transition of some kind.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: And this is a great year when everything is in upheaval.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: This is a really great time to reassess what you want out of your life, what you want out of your writing and your creative work and your business.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And I would just encourage you to do that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I know uh I've really enjoyed doing this smart business writing version of the podcast.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: But as I begin to think of what I really want to see happen in my business and the kind of things I wanted to do and the people that I wanted to help, which is writers, I just thought, you know, the smart business writing that way of doing it probably is not going to work for me, and I need to make an adjustment.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And it's always scary to make an adjustment.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It's always intimidating because you never quite know how things are going to work out.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: But I do think it is important to look around and see things that could be better, things that could be changed.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And sometimes that means we're getting rid of things that are working okay, but they could be working a lot better.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And I think that's the most intimidating part of it of all is that maybe life is going well, maybe things are going pretty well, but could they be going better?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And are there things that are good in your life that are actually getting in the way of things that could be great or even amazing?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So just take that into consideration as we bump up to the last couple months here of the year 2020 and look toward next year.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Now, the one thing that I wanted to say to close out this episode is really a couple things.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Number one is this is going to be the final audio journal podcast episode of my show.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be doing some shows Monday through Friday on the new show, The Daily Writer, that are very much like these audio journals, but they'll be a little bit different.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: But uh, these audio journals have really been an experiment to see if I like producing this very short-form content and just what the response of it is.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: And just to be honest with you, it's been kind of surprising.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: People have seemed to really enjoy these.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: This is obviously these audio journal episodes are like extremely lo-fi.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Literally, I'm just turning on my phone.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: There's no editing, there's nothing.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: It's just kind of me talking, uh, and that's pretty much it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, but these have been an experiment, and I get about two-thirds of the downloads on the audio journal episodes as I do the regular episodes.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: For example, um, let's say if uh when I release an episode, like if uh an interview episode or a solo teaching episode, if that gets a hundred downloads immediately, uh I don't know what the numbers are exactly, I'd have to go back and look at them.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: But if if those get a hundred downloads immediately, the audio journal episodes tend to get like 60% of that, so like 60 downloads immediately.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So um they're not quite as popular, but still cumulatively, they're really, really good.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: And also the advantage of doing these little short episodes is I can then compile those into a book later on, which is definitely my intention.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Um then the final thing that I wanted to say is just a really sincere and heartfelt thank you.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: You are you are what makes this podcast possible.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I could do a podcast with no listeners, but it certainly would be pointless and wouldn't be very much fun.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: So thank you for listening.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I really deeply appreciate it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: I know there's a lot of stuff you could be listening to, and a lot of ways you could be using your time, but man, it just means absolutely the world to me that you would listen to my show and and hopefully you get some value out of it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: So, anyway, God bless.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I really, really appreciate you, and I will see you tomorrow for the very first episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
