- 0:01Jeff Legwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five Pro Football the
- 0:07insider I've covered while Jeff leg his appearances are always must listen radio. You
- 0:13learn a lot's leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. Yes, it
- 0:26is Craignan and Lindahl and we are doing football talk on a Scott Friday edition
- 0:31of this show. We jet out right now to the ramos Law Hotline car

- 0:42Uh. Jeff Legwald ESPN, as you know, first round picks,
- 0:47especially when they're a quarterback, eat up an awful lot of oxygen. But
- 0:51an interesting perspective for Matt Bowen of ESPN, a colleague of yours who I
- 0:56know you respect his work very much. Ten best fits for drafted players.
- 1:02He includes Jonah Ellis, the edge rusher that the Broncos drafted in the third
- 1:07round number seventy six overall out of Utah, as potentially a great fit in
- 1:14Vance Joseph's defense. Why is that the case? Uh? Yeah, Matt,
- 1:21Matt is one of the smartest people I know doing this. Was a
- 1:26very smart player and now a very smart retired player doing good things in the
- 1:33media. So when he he is I can assure people he has looked at
- 1:38a lot of game film and really he didn't just pick out guys out of
- 1:44nowhere, and he is a good fit. Vance has always liked players of
- 1:49his profile, which is, you know, he'll trade a tick or two
- 1:55on the on the stopwatch for a for a high effort UH player and in
- 2:01the pass rush, especially with a proficient proficient work and his in his counter
- 2:07moves and with his hands and all those things I mean Ellis. I think
- 2:12Ellis was was a solid second round pick if there's no medical issues at all,
- 2:19and uh I've talked to other teams who who also like the Broncos,
- 2:23didn't have any uh any issues with his with his shoulder. So I think
- 2:30he is a good fit and I think he is in the rotation very quickly.
- 2:35Again. You know, I want to see him play these rookies.
- 2:38You know, there were guys I thought were good fits last year, especially
- 2:43you know, in the second half of the season, I thought Riley Moss
- 2:46was worth a long look that that they never gave him. So if they
- 2:51will put him on the field, I think he is a quick fit because,
- 2:55as a rule, pass rushers are. It translates quickly. If you
- 3:00get to the quarterback and pressure the quarterback in college, you will routinely,
- 3:04routinely do it almost to your highest level as a pro if things go well,
- 3:10and I see no reason why it won't for Alice as a player.
- 3:15You and I have talked a bunch. I mean, again, this is
- 3:17the rookie camp. You get the full lineup, you've seen everything kind of
- 3:22filled out. What do you think you're gonna see this weekend? Well,
- 3:25Jeff, I feel like I said that. I just looked at the schedule.
- 3:29You're probably not gonna see much this weekend, right, you don't get
- 3:30to watch the workouts. Now we get tomorrow's practice. We will see.
- 3:38But again, Andy, there, they've taken a very different tact with this
- 3:42in the past few years, and it hasn't mattered who the head coach was.
- 3:46I mean, they're very conscious of transitioning from combine and draft prep to
- 3:53football, and teams used to do it more drastically, and there was a
- 3:57feeling injury resulted in that. So it will be a hybrid sort of conditioning
- 4:04drills mixed type of thing. It won't be as ramped up as maybe a
- 4:11rookie camp would have been ten years ago, but they'll get them out there,
- 4:15and a lot of this weekend is getting them settled in for when they
- 4:19join the the OTAs and some of the meetings when they get down the road
- 4:25on how all this is going to look and where they should go and what
- 4:29the hotel's like, and you know, all of those things. And it's
- 4:33almost as much about that as this early look on the field. Now,
- 4:39you know, for a couple of tryout guys or the undrafted guys that you
- 4:44know, it might be a little bigger deal for them to sort of show
- 4:48in the drills that they athletically can hang in. Hey, real quick,
- 4:53then let's talk about these free agents that they signed that I'm curious about.
- 4:57And I'm curious because of position. Here Dylan Leonard, the tight end out
- 5:00of Georgia Tech, and then Thomas Yassman right from Utah. I guess he's
- 5:05an international player designation. Tell me about the international player designation? Will that
- 5:12help him maybe stick around into camp? What does that do for them?
- 5:15They just don't count against the ninety andy, so it does give them an
- 5:20opportunity to sort of take a slower ramp up if they need it, because
- 5:26a lot of times those guys are a little behind and in just general fundamentals.
- 5:31You know, often they're scouted on their athleticism first and then the thought
- 5:36as we can fit them into things. I mean, they you know,
- 5:40I think there is room this year for a couple of those undrafted. You
- 5:44know again, I like the Wyoming tackle and the Memphis running back are probably
- 5:47my two. Those are the two I had the highest grades on of the
- 5:54group that they signed. Frank Crumb, Yeah, big tackle, lot of
- 5:58Wyoming. It's six foot seven, giant. Yeah, large, large human
- 6:02being right there? They real quick? What do you like about Blake Watson
- 6:04five nine five? Doesn't say thumper to me? What is this a speed
- 6:09guy? What do you think he can do? I just saw a lot
- 6:13of vision with him, and you know it just you seemed to have a
- 6:17really good sense of where the trouble was when he had the ball and how
- 6:23to get away from it. And you know, he made some big plays
- 6:26and some of the stuff I looked at, and I think there's room for
- 6:31people who show they can, you know, put an impact play out there.
- 6:35I mean, they've been short on impact plays, and I think that
- 6:41gives anybody like him a chance because he you know, it's almost like the
- 6:46same way as Julia McLoughlin made the team last year. If you show that
- 6:49you have some of that impact potential, I think it really helps. All
- 6:55Right, Leggy. To wrap up this conversation, our friend Jeff Legwald of
- 6:58ESPN, I want to ask you a question in which I'm asking you to
- 7:00do all of your favorite things, predict and speculate. However, I know
- 7:04that you do this from a place of pure education, So I was I
- 7:12was thinking about this as I was looking at this Broncos quarterback depth chart.
- 7:17When they open training camp, first day, first team, the first time
- 7:26the first team offense goes out there, who will be the quarterback? That's
- 7:32interesting, You know, I don't I think I will assure you Sean Payton
- 7:38will say it doesn't matter. Of course he will. He will preemptively say
- 7:42at some point during the mandatory mini camp or OTAs or at some point he
- 7:47will preemptively, unprompted, say it doesn't matter. Uh, And that's somebody
- 7:54has to go out there and take the snap. But my gut says Stidham,
- 7:59just because of a veteran NOD type of thing, and that's it.
- 8:03I mean, I don't have intel on that or anything, but I just
- 8:07think I just think Peyton's playbook is immense. I mean, the two I've
- 8:11seen, we're one hundred and seventy, you know, had seven hundred plays
- 8:16in them. Seven hundred plus plays the two playbooks I've seen from him.
- 8:22That's a lot. And Stidham as a big head start on these other two
- 8:26guys. And I think that's the only reason I would say that, Well,
- 8:31Jess and I will. I don't think it'll mean much two weeks into
- 8:35camp either, though. I believe if you give Bo Nicks those seven hundred
- 8:39plus plays at five o'clock in the afternoon, he'll have them memorized by dawn.
- 8:43Don't you worry about that. That's what we were told. Yeah,
- 8:48he has that capability. But that's a large playbook. I mean, that's
- 8:50that's and now you know, some of those are very small variations on a
- 8:56core play, you know, so it's not like seven one hundred unique formations
- 9:03or anything. But that is a large playbook, and when you get it
- 9:07in training camp, you get the whole thing. You know, they'll do
- 9:11installs in stages, but he has a head start unless these other two guys
- 9:16are really going to grind it on their own here in the next few weeks.
- 9:22Well, it's a large playbook of knowledge that Jeff Legwall drops on us
- 9:26twice weekly here on The Kraikman and Lindahl Show, and we appreciate it as
- 9:30always. Leggy, thanks for jumping on on a Friday. Have a great
- 9:33weekend man, you two follows, I appreciate you
