Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Hollywood wants a Catholic priest when demons show up, but does anybody want to hear what the priest has to say the rest of the week?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: So today we're talking about Halloween.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Can Catholics celebrate it?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Why are exorcists becoming podcast celebrities?
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And why do scary movies keep borrowing Catholic imagery?
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: And are we teaching our children to take evil seriously, or is it simply teaching them to just be afraid?
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: If you're interested in these topics, you're going to want to watch this podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: Get ready.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: All right, welcome back to another episode of the Catholic Couple Podcast.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Having fun with faith, family, and friends.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: I'm your co-host, Bobby Frederickson.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: With me as always, my beautiful wife, Katie Frederickson.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: I'm the Convert Catholic and she's the Cradle Catholic.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: And here we are, as you heard in the intro, having an episode about Halloween, all Hollows Eve, about exorcisms, and why is the interest in Catholic priests who are exorcists become basically celebrities in the podcast circuit and what's going on with one who's been told to step back for a year.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: So we're going to get into all these topics.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: But before we do, let's get a little bit about our own history about Halloween.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: You've been known to say this is your favorite holiday.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: So what was it like for you growing up and and why has it become your favorite holiday?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, Halloween's my mom's birthday.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: That is that is that is fun.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: But you know, I feel like the memories associated with Halloween is just picking out, figuring out what your costume's going to be.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I think it's fun to dress up in costumes.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I like theme parties, whether it's Halloween or not.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I love fall.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I I'm assuming you were allowed to watch horror movies.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Like at a young age.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So I was not.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I wasn't allowed to watch anything past my joke is fit 1949 um until I was way older.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But I grew up on like the scary old movies, the monster movies from the 1930s and 40s.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And I guess my view of Halloween was more like that spooky, eerie fall decorations, but not the gore and the dis So I'm like disgusted sometimes by scary, the suspenseful mysteries and things like that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't understand why gory is scary.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Can you explain that?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Like you watched all that stuff.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: When I watched it as an adult, I'm like, this isn't scary, this is just gross.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Like it's all gross.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Now, granted, like the the classics like, you know, Michael Myers and things like that.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: But I I I think 'cause I was able to watch those m with an older, more mature mind, I knew it was fake.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know what kind of what it would have done to my brain if I had watched it as a Well, I know what it did to my brain.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: I had to see a school psychologist because I was drawing pictures and basically writing stories that were that went along with, you know, the the Friday the 13ths, the the nightmare on Elm Streets, sleepaway camps, and all these kinds of gross things.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: But it definitely does if you think that it doesn't have an effect on you psychologically or mentally or spiritually for that's for that.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I don't think anyone should have those kinds of images put in their brain.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: I think that there's a difference between enjoying, you know, what's lurking behind the a tree at night and you get a little nervous or like skeletons.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Obviously, we're gonna get into the to the Catholic part about what Halloween is.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, like skeletons, things like that.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: But I think the door.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: But I think that if it's just slasher stuff just to kill, I think it's just really just showing the that there is no value to human life and that we're looking at in that vein.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Why do you think that our culture has such a fascination with serial killers?
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Well, I think for for me, the way I I really I really enjoy getting into the psychology of why people do what they do.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: So with serial killers, it's the extreme example.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: And usually, you know, they they do these profiling, and we I really love the mindhunters because that was like how the FBI really got into profiling and the history behind it.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: And they started talking to one serial killer, Ed Kemper, who had a super high IQ, and he was really in tune to why he did what he did, and then he was so much so in tune with it that he knew why other people were doing it and helped the FBI create profiles, what to look for for these other people who were committing these murders.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: So I was really interested in those kinds of things of what what leads somebody to do to do such horrible things.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: I I like the mystery of it, like you said.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Like I like the mystery of like trying to find the guy.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: I always kind of wanted to be a detective.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: So I always like try to hunt hunt down these the bad guys, that there's always a good guy trying to hunt down the bad guys.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: But I think that's all that Halloween has turned into is costumes, candy, and gory, scary movies.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: And we're trying to reclaim it for those real scary movies, which are to me the scariest of all the movies are the exorcists or true stories of exorcisms when that are reenacted like that.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Did you ever see that exorcism of Emily Rose that's like a real person?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that knowing evil exists and seeing the evidence of it proves an existence of the opposite.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: But also I think that Hollows Eve, it is the day before All Saints Day.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: And you're kind of mocking the devil and mocking death.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Like why is why is a a a ghost is is scary because it's we are a a people of a body and a soul.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: That's what makes us human, right?
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: So when you take away either aspect of that, a zombie or a skeleton is a a body without the soul, right?
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And a ghost is a a spirit, a soul without without a body, it's unnatural, it's something that we should fear, right?
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: But we are empowered to say, oh death, where is your sting, right?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: That it's something that we shouldn't fear.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: And I think that for thousands of years, people were surrounded by death so much more than we are now.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Like, think about like awake would be in your home.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: You would have that dead body in your home and have people come.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: So death was a a normal part of life.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Not that it's not now, but I I guess it was more sanitized now.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Like a wake.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: We see somebody passed away.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: A lot of times there's closed caskets, you didn't even see the body.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Everybody avoids even talking about it in general.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Whereas for thousands of years, I mean, people had skulls everywhere to remind them of their death, memento morning, because faith was at the center of it, and it's basically saying we're not afraid of this.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And it is inevitable.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And it's 100% of people will die eventually, and we need to acknowledge that.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So these three days, it's of this all hollow tide, is is remember your death.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Remember that we will die, we shouldn't be afraid because of what Jesus did to overcome those things.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: If you're in that state of grace, you shouldn't be afraid, right?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: But to glorify the ugly, the to glorify the demonic, to to glorify the serial killer, that's not what this is about.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we're not trying to say that to ignore evil.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Like there is evil.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: Like there are there are, we know our battle is not with any human being, that our battle is with those principalities and those dark powers, and that this time of year it comes to the surface.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Remember, you're gonna die.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: You can become a saint, and those that have that have passed away, we need to pray for their souls.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: That's why there's all souls day as part of it.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: It's but it can't be the center of the thing.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: It's like focusing on the demonic and and the devil.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: It's one thing it's kind of like in a glorified way.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I think it it it's it's the way that the church has always operated.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: That's why the church has this time.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: It's similar to like Mardi Gras.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: So right before you start this holy time, it's kind of inverted.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: You you go to excess, you you you you feast and you you you can drink and you do all this stuff.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: It's almost like an upside down.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, now we're dressing as the dead.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: We're kind of upside down, we're turning everything upside down to remind us of the opposite that people do die.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: And when you die, you're going to one or two places.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: You're going to heaven or hell, you're gonna shortstop in purgatory, hopefully.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, honestly, you can really look at these three days as reminding you of those the last things.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: And it's the end of the seasons, it's where fall is changing into winter, things are dying, the fall, the the leaves are falling from the trees, the air is getting cooler, it's starting to think more about getting into winter, preparing for that.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: When's the last time, though, we we hear priests talk about the four last things?
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: This is an opportunity for us as parents, especially to talk to our kids about the four last things.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: It's like it's something you don't want to talk about all the time, obviously, but to never talk about it is scandal because the so much of the New Testament, Jesus himself talks about death, hell, the grinding and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and that the sheeps and the goats are going to be separated.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: So it's just something serious that the the the last four things are a big deal death, judgment, heaven, and hell.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: But our our parish priests, for some reason, they just don't talk about it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Why do you think that is?
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: I think because they get a lot of pushback.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: I think since we've been to St.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: John, Father Meletta, he's talked about it a few different times, but one homily where he talks specifically about hell.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: I know a couple moms personally who got up in the middle of it, took their kids and walked out.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Even though, like, you could still hear in the narthex, you could still hear what's going on.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Because one person in particular was because, you know, she heard that a lot when she was growing up about because she was in a Protestant background.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Protestant background, so they're hearing heavy a lot of like you're going to hell if you do this and do that.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Father and brimstone preaching, which is not our fancy.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: But I think that that's what we're scared of, is that trying to see, well, that's all they want to talk about is and scaring the kids.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: It's like not to scare them, but it's to let them know of reality that the things that we do matter, the choices that we make matter, and that the road to perdition is wide and many are taking it, and narrow is the road to heaven, and few are taking it, and that's what he says in Matthew, and like that's a scary thing.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: So we need to have that end in in sight.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: There is heaven or hell, and the things that we do lead us to one place or the other.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: It isn't that everybody dies, like at every funeral and wake that we go to.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Everyone's canonized at every single wake.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, they're such a great person.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: We know they're in heaven.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Like, well, no, we don't.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: That's why I love All Souls Day, because as a family, we write the names of everyone who's passed away in our family and friends, and we light a candle inside of it.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: We write it on the jar, on this jar, and pray intentionally for them for the entire month of November.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And that just makes me think of like my grandparents that did pass a while back.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, my grandpa passed away when I was in high school and my grandma when Avery was like one.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm hoping they made it, but just in case, I'm gonna continue to pray for them because I don't know what time looks like on that other side of the veil.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And so because we don't know, the only ones we know for sure about are the ones that have the big S T in front of their names.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: You know, I think there's there's nothing wrong with praying for for those those family members that had passed away.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: So even if it was a long time ago.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: But to get into that mindset of praying for anyone who's passed away.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: About your your school is that in between the the the church and the school, there's a cemetery.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: And we pray for the soul.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: And I think that's good for the kids because they're reminded that there's people there and they're buried there.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: We don't have to be weird about it.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: We go in there and we pray for them.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: And that's what I think is really cool, is that they they they get a real concrete example.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, you know, grandma passed away or the dogs passed away.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Like, this is a reality of for all people.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: We don't pray for our dogs.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: I know, I'm just saying, but that's most kids are expired, you know, the pets.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: That's their first experience.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: The first experience about death is that uh that a pet dies.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: And then usually a grandparent.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: That's a whole other conversation.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: But uh, but I think that that's it's a great reminder.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: We don't have to always talk about it, but I think this is a good time of the year to talk about the real part about Halloween, how it started.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's some pagan stuff to it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: You don't have to go crazy, but it's well like a lot of pagan things, it gets baptized.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, St.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Paul, yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: They they went through and they baptized a lot of these these holidays, and this has been hijacked, it's commercial.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: We see, you know, there's more Halloween decorations than Christmas decorations now.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's adjusted, I think.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So if you go through your neighborhood, Christmas has been commercialized too.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I think that our culture has a really good, does a really good job at hijacking all things and commercializing and baptizing them into a secular way.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Bond to the Christian roots of all of these things.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: But I think it's such a great opportunity for us, is that people are really into the Halloween, right?
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: So how can we turn those conversations into it being And so let's talk about death and the devil?
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Let's just talk about all Hallows Eve.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Let's just talk about those things.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Asking people, well, well, why do we do it?
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: It's not just to go get candy.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Like, where did that come from?
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: And and what are we celebrating?
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: What is all Hallows Eve?
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: And then we can kind of get into the Saints.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like, well, the the the Saints are the reason for All Hallows Eve is it's all Saints Day, that we are celebrating those who made it who made it.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Those like St.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Paul, uh St.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Paul says is that though that great cloud of witnesses that are there, you know, cheering us on.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: That St.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Paul tells us that we need to run as to win and to, you know, keep the faith and and to compete well and to finish strong.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: And the saints just give us that example of those who finished the race, who didn't compromise, who fell but got back up.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: They every time they fell, they just kept getting back up, and then they trust and surrendered in God.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: So that's what our goal should be.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: It's not to be like people getting Grammys or or Oscars.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: It was to the people who got the the the imperishable crown.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: That's who we're we're we're we're looking to.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: And I think that Halloween is a great opportunity to talk to people about death.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: Why not?
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: So speaking of fascinations with with the the demonic and that darker side, I feel like m most new horror movies have to do with a lot of the demonic and have to do with exorcisms and things like that.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: So it's a big topic.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: It's a big topic.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: A lot of Catholic imagery is used in these movies.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: I I every time.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Some of it like is really getting like like the nun and like all these things, like with any kind of religious imagery is starting to get turned into something demonic, which I mean I guess that that's what they're they're trying to take it down.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: But why a fascination?
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Like, why are certain exorcists popular and uh going on like you want to speak to specifically Father Rippinger or what happened to the thing?
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, Father Father Rippinger's been he's been doing the he was doing the circuit a lot.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: He's a very traditional priest.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: He prays four hours a day.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: He's very not just an exorcist, but he's also has a a a a big education in psychology.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: And just like every time there is an exorcist, they don't go straight to performing the the rite, the ritual to expel the demon.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: There's so much research and and studies and scientific research that go into mental illness and the affliction and and those kinds of things.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: And I think that people have all experienced something kind of creepy or weird, and everyone's looking for these explanations.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: But I think right now what's really fueling the fascination is the topic of aliens and demons, that demons are really aliens are demons.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Like that's a big part, and that's part of why f there's uh been a couple of exorcist priests who've kind of been told to step down and not be in the public.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: There was another one his bishop told him because he came out and talked about aliens are demons.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: And that's a big thing right now.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: So you think aliens are demons?
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: I think there's a I think there's definitely I think that they can definitely transform and be what we want.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: I think all throughout the Bible, when Ezekiel and these people saw these weird imagery in in in in the sky and things like that, it could be.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: The demons can can transform and do all kinds of stuff.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: They're pure spirits, they could do all kinds of stuff to deceive people, to see things, to do all that.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think there's I mean, everybody from Vice President Vance has talked about it to uh Father Rippinger, uh Father what's his name?
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Rosetti, Father Dan Rehill, all these they've talked about the the possibility that it is, and that that movie that just came out uh from Spielberg, Disclosure Day, there's a lot about that and some tie-ins to people were talking about that.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: But I think it's possible.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: I I I don't know.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: The church doesn't say definitively that it is, but I think that if I was Satan and I had an army, I would definitely find ways to deceive people.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: And if that would be to change your values or to not believe in God because there's this other super race in uh somewhere else and they're gonna conquer us.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: And but no, we know that we're the the apple of his eye, right?
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: We're we're the pinnacle of his creation.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: That's why Satan fell was because he saw what the plan was to make us like like God, to be able to receive him, to to be that close to God that the the angels fell because they couldn't believe it.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: When they saw the image of Mary actually conceiving God and raising her and elevating humans, they rebelled because they were so disgusted by that that they thought that they were so much better.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: But God made us the perfect creation next to to himself, obviously.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: But he calls us to be like him, to be part of his own family, and that caused them to to rebel.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: So whatever which way they can use to deceive, to you know, distract us, to divide us, whatever that may be.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: And if that would be faking to be you know extraterrestrials, which technically they are, they're extraterrestrial, right?
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: So I uh this episode isn't about that, but I just think that I just think that's I have not much to contribute to that at all.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm just telling that's been a lot of social media stuff is there's been a lot of people, whistleblowers coming forward with alien crafts and seeing like you know, people who are in the military who have great records who are claiming to see this ship and that ship and see these things.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: There's more of evidence.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: It's like every week there's these disclosures and uh with what they call now not UFOs, they call them UAPs.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: And as there's all this stuff going on.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: So of course, it's bringing up that you know, there's nothing new under the sun that that this could be the supernatural, this could be the demonic.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: So it's possible.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: But I think a lot of these exorcists have brought got into that, so that's really it's doubled it.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: So they're interested in the demonic and the exorcism type stuff, but they're also talking about aliens.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Who's they?
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: They are interested.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: You mean like like people in general are really there's a like the Joe Rogans of the world, like those people are really interested in in aliens.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: If people want to know, is there more out there?
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: There's so much movies about aliens, yeah, and that people and now if you get cross-section aliens and demons together, it's like yeah, yeah, you're getting you're getting the the perfect storm.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: That's what we mean.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of people are interested.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: But in in minus the aliens part, I think a lot of people are interested because it's it's truly scary because we know that they actually exist, that they're this isn't make-believe stories, these movies.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: The exorcist is based on a real exorcism.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Father Gabriel Morph did like 50,000 exorcisms.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: That was a movie with right a documentary where they showed actual one that he did before he died.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: But the ritual that was based on a real one with Al Pacino.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Remember, we watched that movie with the one in Iowa that's based on a real one.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: So they're real.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: But I think Father Rippinger said, like, out of the actual ones where exorcism is actually performed, the actual ritual, it's like three out of a hundred, or like one out of a hundred.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: A hundred cases that come to them.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Most of them are attached to them.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Most of them are attached to it very interesting to versus full-on demonic.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But he's been asked to be quiet at this time.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: For a year, yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: He's out of the he's out of the Archdiocese of Denver.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: And I just think it was maybe too much.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, there was uh an instance where he went on Sean Ryan podcasts and he gave him a gift of a gun, and he kind of like posed with the gun.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if it was the imagery from that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: It could have been a bunch of different things.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: But he's we're all called to be obedient, even the priests, even the ones who are doing podcasts.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: If if my priest came to me and said, Hey, I don't think what you're saying on the podcast is right, I would listen to him like, Okay, well, you're you're technically, you know, my father, my spiritual father.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: If you told me that and you listen to something and said, Hey, I don't think that was right, what you said, or how you said that.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: So if he just came and said, Please stop talking about aliens.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Well no, I'm not saying I'm not saying it exists.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying that this is what they're they are saying.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: Or if my bishop said this or that, right, that we're we're called to be obedient, and that that that's okay.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: But for him, it's it's just you know, it's an act of humility to step back, take a year to work on a study to to pray.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: I know he said he prays four hours a day.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Like that's his life.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: He knows that he has to be that that in tune.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've listened to a lot of his talks.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: They're very good, they're very grounded, and he's a great teacher.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: He's very kind of like, well, why have someone like that step down?
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: But maybe, yeah, maybe because there was too much fascination that it it got too many.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Too popular where it's you know and it could be nefarious.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: It could be like, hey, the the evil one wants him to silence it because he's saying too much stuff to try to expose him.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: There could be things that we don't know that are behind the scenes.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: It could be a bunch of different things.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: I just know that's even an order of of priests.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Is that order still in existence?
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he he helps to have just been told to not talk to the public to be public.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Take a year off.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: He didn't say forever.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: They said take a year, step, take a step back, you know, maybe work on your reading, your training, your your writing and those things, and we'll see what happens.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: But I think that it's not gonna go away.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: But the problem is when stuff like that happens without a great explanation, people think the conspiracy theories, they think, well, he's being silenced because he's speaking the truth and they don't want to hear it.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Like so you start to see all that kind of stuff too.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: It creates more division.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Speaking of, did you see the the tweet that uh Bishop Barron put out about evangelization?
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: I shared it today that there was a priest from or a bishop from Algeria who said it's not our job to evangelize and to convert people.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Do you think he was speaking more to like parcelization, like to force it like to go door to door, which is what we are not?
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: No, I don't I just think that he lives in a Muslim country and I'm sure he was saying things that he was you know, they they they want to have these you know dialogues.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: But ultimately Jesus himself, you know, commanded us to give us all authority to go make disciples of all nations, including Algeria, including Afghanistan and Iraq, including the ones that many martyrs have gone to these places and have been killed.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: You know, that's the thing about St.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: Francis of Assisi that I I I really really is that we always hear that quote is supposedly attributed to him is to to preach the gospel at all times and use words when necessary.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: But he actually went to Egypt and spent like a month preaching to the to the Sultan there in in the middle of the crusades.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: And he didn't shy away from trying to convert them and telling them about the gospel versus like you have to or you're gonna die versus I'm gonna lay out this argument and then I'm gonna love you too.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: But I think that, yes, we should always be prepared to to say what we believe, but I think also it's in in how we live.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: So we can shift back into Halloween and we can look at a lot of the things that our secular world is doing, and we don't have to fully remove ourselves and say we don't practice that goes against our religion.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: We can say we'll be a part of this, but we're not gonna be a part of that, right?
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: And I think that that could be a true testimony and a and a conversation starter as to why.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: So for example, like we don't we the church is very much against anything that has to do with divination, which is just pr putting attributes to on something else that isn't that belong to God, right?
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: So anything like horoscopes, Ouija boards, seances, fortune telling, you know, all those kinds of things are strictly it's an absolute no way for for for Catholics to be participated in.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: And not everybody knows that, right?
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: And that does become part of Halloween and fun, scary stuff.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: And so it can be a complete conversation starter with if you teach your kids right, like if they're at a sleepover and you wanna like, hey, let's play this, that to equip your child to say, like, no, I'm sorry, like in my faith, we that's that's we attribute to get those answers from God and God alone.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: That's the thing though.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: It's acknowledging that you actually are tapping into the demonic r realm, right?
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: And you we don't get our answers from the demonic realm, we get our answers from God, from the Holy Spirit.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: It doesn't mean that stuff isn't that we don't believe in it, it actually means we do believe it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: And it's in script and it's in scripture, and it's in scripture in that we're not supposed to do that.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: The Exorcist movie, the the original Exorcist movie, I forget the very beginning, but it's something with a Ouija board with the getting that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: But so those things are real.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: It's not all fun and games, it's not just a joke.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: And we believe that, and we don't believe in getting our answers from that because it did happen in the Bible where Samuel, he probably yeah, and he's and Samuel chastises him.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: What are you doing?
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: We're not supposed to use this stuff.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: You know that's saying that we why that there is demonic realities, that there is a reality in that spiritual realm, and we are not to tap into it and get answers from it because our answers should come from the Holy Spirit, should come from God Himself, because we are the that's the enemy's territory, and it's saying to not play in the enemy's territory.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: So those are those are different things to equip your kids.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Like when you're, you know, we don't believe in bloody even bloody Mary, any of those things where you're calling on something else.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: You don't know what's gonna pop up.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: You don't know what's right.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: You're literally inviting them in.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: But people don't all even want to talk about demons, and priests definitely don't either.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: We see a lot of the New Testament.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Jesus is casting out demons, he's doing exorcisms, there's all this in the Bible, but why do you think that priests never talk about the supernatural that way?
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: That because they, you know, again, with with the increase in science, right?
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: But it's interesting because so many scientists went, you know, in those in scientific uh discoveries were very much into the occult stuff too, as that's another level of you know, uh energy and and things in this other realm of reality.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: But as we I think become more materialistic and scientific, I think that it's been relegated to being superstition, superstit right, or it's uh, you know, yeah, okay, like, well, you believe in that kind of stuff?
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: No, you know, so that was just back when Jesus was doing it.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: That doesn't really matter today.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: But that we can't, as Christians and be honest, if Jesus spent that much time talking about it, the gospels talk that much about it.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: St.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Paul talks about it.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: Like, how come we don't talk about it?
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: How come we're not hearing it from our priest telling us of like these are things to be worried about?
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Now, that's not to say that everything that happens to you is the demon is causing it.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but we know that the demons first way that they do get involved is through temptation.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, the the the saints in the church and the Bible tells us that that's what they they do first.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: They will tempt you, and then once you sin, then then they got you.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Then they just keep they keep the you know putting other things and tempting you, and then eventually it could be if you dabble with these other things, but one sin usually leads to another, to another, to another until you run to confession because it's that slippery slope.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: But I I think there's something to priests not wanting to be looked at weird because they're talking about these things.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: But I think they're the ones who should speak at it the most.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: They're the ones who should warn, especially this time of year, to warn about spiritual attacks, worry about spiritual battles, that there's this there is a war raging for your soul.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Well, it's such a beautiful story of the the Pope that had the vision of St.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: Michael and crafted the or had the had his visions and crafted the St.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Michael prayer.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: And that was for such a long time we had, you know, to say that after after Mass.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: Now, Matt, the Mass is the most powerful prayer you can say, absolutely.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: But just to just to sh acknowledge that we are going out equipped for battle with our spiritual fruit food and nourishment from the Eucharist, that we're going out, and these are realities in our life.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: And that when we look at you know, hollow tide, we have the realities of we're going to die.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: We're there's three places to go, right?
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Heaven, hell, purgatory, right?
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: And we what does that mean for us living right now and those that have gone before us?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: We should pray for them.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: We should look to the saints as those that made it.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: So we're on this battlefield.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: We should look to we can mock the enemy, right?
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: But we don't need to go into his territory.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Because we know the victory.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: We he mocks it because he says, Where's your where's we where's your victory?
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Like he's mocking death because he conquered them.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: You know, that's that's part of it.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: It's like, but if Jesus confronted demons and he handed on his authority to go and make disciples baptize, teach, he's giving us authority over those things.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: You know, and for priests to not talk about it at all, it's only gonna make people run to other places to get that information.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: So I think it's good that these priests are out there talking about it, especially ones who are trained in it, to help people not give them bad answers about it, because where else are they gonna look?
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: They're gonna go to social media, they're gonna watch movies, they're gonna think these other things.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: So there has to be some people who who are authority on the subject of spiritual warfare and spiritual battles and demonology and those things to get the right answers so they're not led astray.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, the catechism, obviously, the scriptures, but we need somebody once in a while to talk about it, not not to avoid it altogether.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: There is one thing I I remember Father Rippringer talking about on a where he said he talked to Satan himself, and basically the whole game plan is to trade is to get us to trade a higher good for a lesser good.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: That's really all sin is.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: That's really the whole game plan of the devil is to take a higher good like heaven and trade it for a lesser good.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: So in every sin that we're doing, we're we're selling out for this lower good, this immediate pleasure, you know, we're we're making the trade each time.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: And if you look at the opportunities that were provided in these holidays, don't trade out your higher good.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: That's all, like right.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: So if you're looking at at anything to see whether or not it's okay as a Christian to celebrate it or to do said thing, just what are you trading on a higher good for that thing?
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: And that's what I'm saying.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: So how can we as parents set those boundaries for our kids in this in this this season, this hallow tide of the fall and the Halloween?
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: What are some ways that we could set boundaries for the kids to let them know like like we're not celebrating this, but we're doing that?
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: What are some ways?
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: I think the why's behind the what's like what is this holiday for?
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Why do we celebrate it?
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: So like trick-or-treating.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Yes or no?
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Well, are you I mean, I guess you're you're trading your higher good of of strong, healthy teeth for candy?
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: No, you know what I mean.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: But is there really anything at risk of of that?
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: No, right?
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Is it a fun memory?
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: Is it is it is it fun?
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: Is it you know to is it cultural?
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's it's it's uniquely American, right?
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: It's an American thing, yes.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Is there is there is there downside?
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: Is there downside, yes?
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about costumes then.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: So what can I wear to dress up?
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Well, again, are we glorifying evil in our costume?
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: Are we glorifying God with our body in our costume as we now will embark on a teenage daughter who will have to make decisions on what she wears for Halloween, right?
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Because our culture right now is giving a different idea of what girls should be wearing on Halloween, right?
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: And so how do you make that decision, right?
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Again, it's it's trading that that higher, higher good.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: And what am I gonna, I'm gonna still glorify God in my body, even if I'm wearing a costume.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: So how can I do it appropriately that honors God and honors my you know, myself, right?
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Not having this slasher, like for for then on the other end with with boys, like having this slasher gory, something that cheapens life, the the the inherent dignity of life, right?
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: So just making those decisions with costumes together, right?
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: And letting them know about holy fear.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: Like there's there's not to be scared, like we have confidence in God and his victory, but there are actual bad people around this time that use this time to do bad things.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: There are people who are actually worship Satan this time of year, is a time when they do bad things, not to be scared, but to be prepared and be ready, don't talk to strangers and and and like obviously be smart about it, but to not just leave Halloween there.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: That I love what the school does in the church is that then on Sunday Mass, it's November 1st, actually, this year works out because Halloween is October 31st, Saturday, November 1st, Sunday, there is a All Saints parade where the kids dress up as saints and they parade into Mass with the priests beforehand.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: And it's a beautiful thing to remind us that Mass is this great cloud of witnesses, it's the place where heaven and earth literally meet.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we are literally at the and it puts what's what it should be all about at the center.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: But it doesn't say you can't have the other fun stuff, right?
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: Like, but this is what's most important, right?
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: So that's why we celebrate All Saints Day and have All Saints Day parties instead of Halloween parties.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: But that doesn't mean throughout the month of October teachers aren't doing cute little spooky things with the kids either.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Because we we're we're finding that balance, but we're again not trading for the higher good.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: We did just get a great book that your ma goddess that's oh yeah, I'm well, I want to read that of holy scary stories, or it's like stories about saints that they scare us.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: We'll have to look at it.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: It looks pretty good.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: There's a that we had with Anthony DeStefano who did a book called I'll All Hallows Eve, which talks about how to talk about Halloween with kids, which was the ghost, and it was a lady, you know, it was a lady about purgatory and praying for her, and that's yeah, that's what that's another piece to it too, is like ghost hunting and ghost tours and things like that.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: I've had numerous conversations with my kids about that kind of stuff because you gotta watch it.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: You don't want to be talking to that spirit those spiritual real we don't we don't want to to cross.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: So what could a haunting be, right?
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: It could be an actual demon or it could be a soul in purgatory.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Either way, pray, right?
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Because if that's a soul in purgatory, they need our prayers.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: And if that's a demon, we need to pray it away, right?
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Like so, either way, pray.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: So let's leave people with five things that they can take away simple family plan.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Number one, explain the calendar, tell the children what Halloween's about and those three days of Halloween, uh All Saints Day and then All Souls Day, and then talk about those and then incorporate that something in that if you're playing.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: So it's all Hallows Eve, like it's the eve of the holy ones.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: And then number two would be actually celebrate the saints, have some someone choose a saint or maybe do a little saint report or dress up for saints, talk about the saints and why they're important.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Number three obviously would be go to mass on November 1st, which is a holiday of obligation.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and but it just happens to follow on uh fall on a Sunday this year.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: And it's gonna work out.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: So then afterwards, you know, say the rosary, say your prayers, and invoke the litany of the saints.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: That would be good.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And my favorite at this time of year is just to remember all that have died.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: So like for the whole month of November.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: So number four would be remember your loved ones.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, remember your loved ones.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So again, a really cool activity is to somewhere on something write down the names of all those who have cats.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: A jar and put their names into it or something like that.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: No, we we write uh we have a glass jar and I wrote the names on the jar and put a candle in it.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: That's just a tradition we do in our family.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: But if you have some some central location where you write down and you just every time we walk every time I walk past that jar, I pray for I I literally just say I pray for all of the the the souls that are on this jar, right?
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Lord, you know, like for make it part of your light to shine upon them.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: You're make it part of your your nightly prayer with your food.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Or if it's a central location in your house, you walk past it like five times a day, just keep doing it, you know, or look up the the uh the prayer to of Saint Gertrude for all the holy souls in purgatory.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Forget how many souls when you say that one prayer are a thousand, something like that.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: And then the fifth one, which is the thing that we never really think about, is that enjoy being neighbors.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: So much of families are can are not connected anymore in their own neighborhoods.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: This is an opportunity to literally introduce yourself as you're walking from neighborhood to neighborhood, yeah, and to it's like, hey, oh, you're the one with the skeleton, the flaming skeleton.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, we come here and we walk by.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: But like take the extra step of introducing yourself and try to get to know some of your your neighbors because we don't do that anymore.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: Fell in love with our subdivision on Halloween.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: Avery's first Halloween that we could actually go to trick-or-treating, because the first Halloween we were here, she was one.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: And then I think when she was two, uh it was like ice rain.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: So like nobody went out.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: But when like she turned three and we went out, I fell in love with our subdivision.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: I got to meet the people, you know, like it was and I love and the and the adults you can have fun too.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, we we I don't, I'm the one who gets stuck doing the candy, but I know all the other parents they bring the wagons with the younger ones.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they bring, you know, they they'll come over and like here's a shot or here's a drink and hang out and get to know that.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: We do hot chocolate or or like hot apple cider with peach knobs or something, some something to warm people up.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: Pie shot at one on that that phone.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: But it's an opportunity.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: I love this neighborhood.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: That we we don't normally get because we're so isolated, we don't know who our neighbors are.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: It's a way to socialize and it may be an opportunity to to eventually evangelize.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: You never know.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: This is the only day of the year where you literally are supposed to go door to door.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: So take advantage of it.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: What do we want our children to remember about how our family approached Halloween?
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: What do you want our kids to take when they're when they're our age, looking back about Halloween?
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: What do you want them to remember?
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, we I think that it's a time to bring our family together.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Especially my mom's birthday, it's a little bit different for us.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: But I th uh but I think it's nice because you're very good at trying to build family traditions.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: So you always make chili.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: She puts up her movie screen like last night, she had Wolfman up.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Like there's little traditions that we can build in to remember to build on in each holiday, not just Halloween, Christmas and Easter and those things.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: But I think that family, I think that family memories are built on those traditions.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: So like once fall hits, we decorate for fall and Halloween, and the kids and I, when it's nice out, which we are been so blessed this October to have beautiful weather, 60s and 70s every day and sunny.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: It's been perfect.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: That's what my joke is.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: This is my natural habitat.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Fall you have been a lot happier.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: So this is it for me.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: So we go on spooky walks at night, which is really just going on fall walks at night together regularly.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: And those I think are memories like watching movies, appropriate movies together, right?
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: That I think there's just so many bonding time moments right now, which other holidays have too, right?
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: So just each one has those things.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: Unique things that you you have together to to build as a family.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: We we always carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds, like we just have specific things that we've always done, and they like expect it.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Even when they're older, they expect us to do that stuff.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: Well, ultimately, we want our kids to know that evil is real, but Jesus is Lord and his victory is is final.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and to and just knowing what lines not to cross.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: So, how do you celebrate Halloween?
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: How do you talk to your kids about all Hallows Eve and the Hallow Hallow Tide?
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: How do you know talk about evil and demons?
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Do you even talk about it?
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: What's age appropriate to you?
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: We'd love to hear from you.
