Speaker B: Hey, what's going on, everybody? Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. Happy, Merry Holiday. Christmas. Holiday. Merry Christmas. Holidays. Happy holidays. What's going on, everybody? Welcome to the holiday episode of Unsigned518's Weekend Spotlight. I'm your host, BJ Swinghammer. And yes, that is my name. And speaking of yes, that is my name. I just want to give a shout out to the Sugar hold for once again doing this awesome intro to this podcast. I love it so much. I love you guys. And you guys have happy holidays and Merry Christmas as well. And, you know, I was lucky enough. I've been telling you guys for weeks now that I'm gonna go out, I'm gonna see a goddamn show. And I finally did it. I went to Bound by Fate and I saw a shortwave radio band, and it was fantastic, and I got to sing, and it was magical and I fucking loved it. So, yeah, I did it. So to all you naysayers, there are probably nobody naysaying, but just in case they were on your face. So, yeah, welcome to the holiday episode. This is the first BJ Swinghammer unsigned 518 holiday episode. So what's going on? This is. There's not a ton going on because it's. It's Christmas. It's the holiday season. It's like the week for a lot of people, so there's not much going on. So I decided to make this just, you know, one pretty much one big, long swing hammer pick of the week, essentially. And I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. There's a lot. I mean, there's more music than there's ever been. There's like seven songs, you know, plus other things. So it's awesome. A, it's awesome. B. You're welcome. I love you guys, and I know you love me. And even if you don't, I still love you. God damn it. Anyways, so what we're getting into first is it's not a Christmas song, but it is an awesome song. It's punk song from the. The Lausketeers. It's a local punk band. This is off their new album, Sayonara, dude, which. And this song just had a new video. A new video came up. So the new. The new video hit for it, and it is awesome. And so, yeah, this is off the new album, Sayonar, Dude. This is no Friends?
• 3:12
Speaker A: Whatever happened to the rebel you once were? When did you leave your whole life behind? You traded in for a. You gave it up, yeah Even your mind I never change, no I grow younger every day but everything is different now no one comes out to play just to like me Now I have no friends, no friends no one like me Now I have no friends I say, yeah, have no friends hey, do you want to hang out? Whoa, whoa yeah, yeah, yeah well, I'm still getting inked up and still going out to shows While you're living in misery A less than ever door used to be cool Now I have no friends, no friends what will I do? Cause I have no friends, no friends don't want to talk to? Cause I have no friends I say, yeah? I have no friend Nobody. Yeah. Whatever happened to you? Whatever happened to you? Whatever happened to you? Whatever happened to yes, That. I have no love I have no love.
• 5:34
Speaker B: All right, that was no Friends from Laosketeers off their new album, Sayonara, dude, which, once again, this song has new videos, so you should go check that out because it's pretty badass. And now we're gonna get. We're gonna get more into holiday songs now, more into the holiday Christmasy kind of songs. And what better way to start it off than with Watch Reggie Run. And you guys know that I love this band. These guys do incredible work, fun work that everyone can listen to. And this song is no different. And it's just a good, fun Christmas song. And it's called Someone Stole Santa's Sleigh. Now.
• 6:15
  Speaker A: It'S.
• 6:16
Speaker B: It's not just a song. It's like a nice little story that you can listen to. And it's a lot of fun. And it's probably going on all my future Christmas mixes for when the season comes up. So from Watch Reggie Run, this is their new single. Someone Stole Santa's Sleigh.
• 6:40
Speaker A: Somebody stuck Stole Santa's sleigh and didn't bring it back it took a toy for girls and boy from his giant sack the cops are looking left and right Tracing Rudolph's tracks the clock is ticking 10 till midnight there's no time to slack the frame here should be flying but Mrs. Claus is crying now Santa Claus won't be coming to town and all the little children are going to frown Santa Claus won't be coming to town We've gotta find that sleigh so we don't let them down. It may have been the Grinch or just some rebellious elves. They probably wanna keep all the presents for themselves I hear sirens wailing instead of silver bells I hope they catch the thieves and lock him in the North Pole cell The police are all trying But Krampus is denying Now Santa Claus won't be coming to town and all the little children are going to frown Santa Claus claws won't be coming to town we got to find that sleigh so we don't let them down. Suddenly we spotted two punks running down the street who tripped them up by throwing giant snowballs at their feet A couple naughty kids who pulled a crazy Christmas prank We found Santa sleigh and put those lads in a snow bank the hoodlums are complying but the their stories I'm not buying Now Santa Claus will be coming to town and all the little children have no need to frown Santa Claus will be coming to town I'm glad we found that sleigh so we don't let them down Santa Claus will be coming to town Santa Claus will be coming to town Santa Claus will be coming to town. Oh, oh, oh. Merry Christmas.
• 10:14
Speaker B: All right, that was. Someone stole Santa's slave from Watch Reggie run. That's the new single and moving forward into the super awesome holiday Christmas. Hey now. Whatever. I'm not good sometimes with introductions. I decided to tap Lucas Garrett, AKA Friggin Batman, because that guy will just appear out of nowhere like mist. Turns out he did an awesome song called the Christmas song in 2021. So yeah, let's listen to it. Here you go.
• 11:06
Speaker A: New tit means on my earth Wild like this Come on, everybody know A turkey and some mistletoe Help to make the season bright Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow Will find it hard to sleep tonight. And every moment is going to sp. Really know I'm alive and so I'm offering this simple phrase to kids from 1 to 92. Although it's been said many times many ways Merry Christmas to you, Sam. And so I'm offering simple praise. It pins from 1 to 92. Although it's been said many times Many way through the same.
• 13:50
Speaker B: All right, that was the Christmas song from Lucas Garrett. It's a nice little. Just like a nice little ride down memory lane, you know? And he rocks it as usual. And speaking of rocking it, I decided to kind of round off the. The most Christmassy of the Christmas songs with probably one of the least most Christmas songs that I've heard in quite a while. And this is actually an older one. This is from Dryer. So this one's from like, you know, like the mid-90s. Somewhere in the mid-90s to early 2000s. And just a little. A little warning. If there's children of. Of, you know, Christmas age, as it were, like, really into, you know, Christmas and Santa and the elves going everywhere, you might want to abstain from. Letting them hear. This song is kind of, you know, it's not. It's not too kidsy, you know. So that's it. So this is the classic song from Dreyer. Don't steal or kill this Christmas.
• 15:10
Speaker A: To watch your parents say December 25th is just another day Santa Claus doesn't really exist it's all a bunch of holiday bullshit. Don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care what's on your list don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care about your. I started shopping late December. I should have started in early November. The girl at the Gap was such a little bitch I'm getting poor and Hallmark's getting rich don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care what's on your list don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care about your dramatic gifts. There's no such thing as flying reindeer or those stupid little elves there's no house sitting on the North Pole it's all a bunch, a bunch of market hell. Don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care what's on your list don't bother celebrating Christmas I don't care about your. Celebration.
• 17:38
Speaker B: All right, that song was Don't Steal or Kill this Christmas, which is, you know, it's great advice for Christmas, really. It's great advice for any day. Don't steal or kill. You know, you got better shit to do and people have better things to do than fill up paperwork because, you know, you feel like stealing and killing. So just don't do it. Anyways, that's my Christmas message to you. And, you know, there is. So there wasn't a whole lot of stuff going on this week as far as, like, things going on, you know, because of the Christmas season. Except for, of course, no Fun in Troy. So this Friday the 26th, so it's the day after Christmas at 7pm You've got a Hell Seeker Goth Night, which is just a. It's a collection of DJs for the evening. And it's gonna be fantastic. It's a great lineup. It's got Rachel, Rave bear mattress and 100 psychic dreams. So 100 psychic dreams. If you know who Shane Sanchez is, who is one of the owners of no Fun, and he does Super Dark and all that stuff. This is one of his projects as well. So I decided to go with 100 psychic dreams. And this is lumberjacks on LSD. All right, that was lumberjacks on LSD off their 2021 album, Braun Stroker. And yeah, I know this is a Christmas episode and a holiday episode and this, this song is is neither. And now it is time for to catch up with our band show. And you know, it's the holiday season and I'm sure they've been busy as hell. So guys, what is going on with our band show Christmas week?
• 22:15
Speaker C: Thank you BJ and welcome in to our band show. Patrick W. Huber here, producer and director of an amazing team of recording artists that aims to film musicians in the Hudson Valley area and beyond. Merry Christmas to all and I've been waiting for this one for a while now. Having Time to Kill Inlet, a group of five high school buds from Long Beach Island, New Jersey have crafted a full indie surf jazz sound. Forming in 2024, the group came onto the scene with their debut single. Following the backstory of a phantom hitchhiker titled Black Horse Lake, the tune immediately saw success, gathering a million views across social media and over 150,000 streams. The group has followed up their early success with an EP called Flytrap that has already surpassed the numbers of the original work. The band Inlet is a social media juggernaut that has invaded my playlist with a rufous aggression like no other. Influenced by Axe and the Hatchetman, the backseat lovers, RC Drive and more, Inlet strives to develop a sound that stands toe to toe with the bands they love. I personally no longer know where my musical tastes end and theirs begin. Maybe when Future Islands comes on our comptrus, I really don't know. It's like I've taken the red pill from the Matrix and my mind has been expanded. When on the show we asked about their influences and they shared a little insight into the groups they look up to. I feel like we haven't really gone into too many of the influences, but who is your your favorite group right now? Let's start with Levi right now.
• 24:01
Speaker B: Geese. I'm gonna go Slipknot. Still RC Drive. I just got introduced to Geese and.
• 24:09
Speaker C: They are now also my favorite group.
• 24:12
Speaker B: I'm excited for the Black Country New.
• 24:14
Speaker C: Road album to drop.
• 24:16
Speaker B: So then I'm a cheat. I got two Will Wood and Tower of Power. Max stole my answer of Black Country New Road, but I guess if I'm not gonna do that, I'll go Annie Jeruso Will Wood is fantastic. And I actually played a show with him at Revolution Bar and Grill a long time ago before he really blew up.
• 24:34
  Speaker A: That's so good.
• 24:35
Speaker B: Just the nicest guy. Really. Just the nicest guy. And so talented. And that's a cool choice. I'm glad to hear his name come up. Back in December, it was a lot.
• 24:44
Speaker A: Of fun because Hugh and I went.
• 24:45
Speaker B: And saw Will Wood live together. We saw him at House Independence, and then later that month we played at House of Independence.
• 24:52
Speaker A: It was very full circle.
• 24:53
Speaker B: It was a lot of fun. What's one song or album that inspired you to play music? Bear on the Roof. Say it again. Bear on the Roof. By who? Accident Hatchman. Well, never heard of it. I'll have to check it out.
• 25:12
  Speaker A: Paradise City.
• 25:13
  Speaker B: Guns N Roses.
• 25:17
Speaker C: I think Pig Floyd got me into.
• 25:19
Speaker B: A guitar at first and then then.
• 25:20
Speaker C: You know, switch to bass. At some point I'd probably have to say Folklore by Taylor Swift.
• 25:29
Speaker B: I listened to Baby Einstein as a baby, so I'd say that I'm gonna go.
• 25:35
Speaker A: Basketball Shoes by Black Country New Road.
• 25:38
Speaker C: Personally discussing the influence of musicians is one of my favorite parts of the show. Sometimes I don't jive with a recommendation, but most of the time it does lead to some amazing discoveries. Inlet is a group of fantastic people. If you're not already following them, you're welcome. In my borderline humble opinion, their time is now. And I am very happy to spotlight Inlets this winter, recorded live on our ban trip.
• 26:12
Speaker A: Been talking too much about me dad get a little overwhelmed say it's okay she gonna telling me darling it's been a year quit everything let's make this clear But I just need to know will you be there for me in the winter this year? Will you be there falling in the winter this year? My dear, Welcome from school All I see is you you giving me those wild oh yes oh girl love you so she on telling me darling it's gonna give quit everything make us clear But I just need to know Will you be there for me in the winter this year? Oh Will. Sam.
• 29:24
  Speaker B: It's been a pleasure.
• 29:24
Speaker A: Thank you so much for having us.
• 29:26
Speaker C: Oh, man. Another amazing performance. I hope you'll check out all the full videos of this week's spotlighted artist on our YouTube channel. • 30:13
Speaker B: All right, awesome. Thanks a lot, man. Our band show, doing the Lord's work. I'm not a religious guy, but I. I guess that means something extra the week of Christmas. So, you know, there you go. Don't forget our band show. You can find out what they're doing on Facebook, Instagram, our bandshow.com. me personally. And as usual, I like going to YouTube. You can kind of just see what they see, what they do firsthand right off the bat, you know, and it's amazing and it's a ton of fun. And if you haven't, doesn't. And if you haven't done it yet, get off your ass and do it. Or stay on your ass and do it, considering that it's all computer based. So yeah, there you go. So our band show. Awesome. Also awesome is Metroland now. And it is time now for hot singles in your area for this week. So that is a list of songs compiled by TJ Foster every month and reviewed and just gone through. And it's always a great lineup this month just because, you know, he's always got a lot going on and he had like super extra going on. So he decided to tap Andy Scullin from Shortwave Radio band to kind of do the reviews on this. And it's not like Andy is not inundated with shit to do anyways, but he's slightly less inundated with shit to do. So this month the reviews were done by Andy, so. And this week I decided to go with Tori. End of story.
• 31:42
  Speaker C: Tori.
• 31:43
Speaker B: So if you're looking to check that out, it's all one word. T O R I Tori End of story. And this is her newer single, in my hand.
• 32:34
Speaker A: Talking too much just cause you inhale and fade again. Happy but panicked I'm secretly manic Forgets what I'm saying there's nowhere to land Forever and ever Intention to stop in a second so why do I have this in my. I catch a glance my hands I gasping conscious breathing Star. Had lines so short and far apart. Laughing in the by the I can't talk much because. Happy but panicked I'm secretly mad Panic forgets what I'm saying There's nowhere to land forever Intention to stop in a second so why do I have this in my.
• 34:41
Speaker B: All right, that Was in My Hand. That's the newest single from Tori. End of story. And it's, I mean it's a beautiful song. It's not just a beautiful song. It's a beautiful way to kind of round up the music and wrap up the music, round off the music in this podcast. So it's, it's lovely and I listen to it several times. I'll probably end up listening to it much, much more going forward. And don't forget, you know, as far as Metroland goes, don't forget to check out the Metroland and what it has to offer. You can find it once again on Facebook and Instagram, the metroland.com which is just so filled with things to do and things to see in 518 and beyond. So if you're bored and you're like, I don't know what to do with my day, my weekend, you know, my night, just go on the metroland.com and there's so much there. You'll find it. You'll, you'll find something to do so easily. So go do that if you ever have a chance. And also, you know, the Metroland physical copies. Physical copies are back. And I say this every single episode. Episode. And I'm gonna continue to say this every single episode. Physical copies are so much fun. And those pages are packed with the blood, sweat and tears of everybody that makes the Metroland run. So you should go check it out because they do incredible work. And you will agree with me absolutely. Once you're done reading even one, even one, you know, physical copy of the Metroland and they are all over the place. You can find Metrolands all over the place now. But if you are somehow a person that cannot find a Metroland, just go to themetroland.com, go to contact us and just see where the closest place is to you, you know, and if you would like to see someplace near you carry it, you can always just walk up to and go, hey jackass, you don't carry the Metroland. And I want to read it. You know, bleh, do it. It's Christmas time. What the hell is your friggin problem? And just tell them to go to the metroland.com, scroll down to the bottom. It'll just say something like, you know, carry the Metroland here. You click on here and you just fill it out and boom, you start getting the Metroland. And you know, the nature starts to heal, you know, whatever. It's, it's anyways, it's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun to read, and it's a lot of fun to, to show people that you. You care about what's going on in your local area. So it's my time. I'm gonna go. I just want to say thanks again for listening, letting me into your ears a little bit here and there every week. I really appreciate it. I hope you appreciate this podcast as much as I appreciate doing it for you. And that's it. Happy holidays, everybody. And if you celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas. Enjoy it. Have fun with whatever you choose to do, you know, on your Christmas Day. And yeah, I really appreciate it. I'll catch you later. Enjoy yourselves. We all deserve it. And as usual, you stay cool. 518. And now it's time for Forensic Polaroids to sign me off. So let's go. Yeah.
