- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, this is Mark Simon Show on sevent ten.
- 0:05Speaker 2: WoT Well, things are shifting in the mayoral race. We'll
- 0:11Speaker 2: get to that. We'll get to the President's trip. He
- 0:13Speaker 2: meets with President She tonight late tonight. We'll get to
- 0:17Speaker 2: the shutdown. We'll get to the World Series. We'll get
- 0:20Speaker 2: to twenty twenty eight. We'll get to the ballroom and
- 0:24Speaker 2: a whole lot more coming up. There's people that watch
- 0:27Speaker 2: this stuff carefully are seeing a shift in the mayoral race.
- 0:31Speaker 2: More people are moving towards Cuomo. Curtis who we love.
- 0:35Speaker 2: He'd be He's the best candidate of the bunch, he'd
- 0:38Speaker 2: be the best mayor of the bunch. But there are
- 0:41Speaker 2: voters shifting from him to Cuomo, despite the fact that
- 0:44Speaker 2: they hate Cuomo. They were horrified by Cuomo's performance in
- 0:49Speaker 2: office as governor, but they're just so terrified of him
- 0:54Speaker 2: Donnie City Hall, that they're more and more people are
- 0:58Speaker 2: shifting to Cuomo. So we don't know if it's too little,
- 1:00Speaker 2: too late. He's still way behind in all the polling,
- 1:04Speaker 2: but but there is a shift, and there is some
- 1:08Speaker 2: data showing the race really tightening. The big big donors
- 1:12Speaker 2: are always the worst in any campaign. Because at first
- 1:15Speaker 2: they always back the wrong guy. They're never great at helping.
- 1:20Speaker 2: They do more damage than good, these big, big money donors.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But one of the problems is to get mom Donnie
- 1:26Speaker 2: out of this, to take him out of competition. This
- 1:29Speaker 2: had to start about a month and a half ago.
- 1:32Speaker 2: As John McLaughlin, the Great Polster, explained to us, you
- 1:35Speaker 2: gotta drive his negatives up. You got to get his
- 1:37Speaker 2: negatives up into the fifties. And the way you do
- 1:40Speaker 2: that is massive negative ads against him. Bombard everybody with
- 1:46Speaker 2: these ads showing you things he said in the past,
- 1:48Speaker 2: all that stuff. Well, that's where the big donors have
- 1:51Speaker 2: to spend the money. The big super PACs have to
- 1:53Speaker 2: run those ads. Well, they didn't this time. Where have
- 1:55Speaker 2: they been This is one of the few campaigns where
- 1:59Speaker 2: they haven't been there. You haven't seen those kind of
- 2:00Speaker 2: negative adds. It's because the big donors were terrified of
- 2:04Speaker 2: Mam Donnie winning and then not being able to have
- 2:07Speaker 2: any kind of relationship with him because you can always
- 2:10Speaker 2: tell who donated the money, So out of fear, they
- 2:13Speaker 2: didn't do it. Now it looks like they may start
- 2:15Speaker 2: doing it. It's a little late. About thirty five percent
- 2:18Speaker 2: of the vote is already in because of that early voting,
- 2:21Speaker 2: So it's a little late, but they're going to start
- 2:24Speaker 2: running some negative stuff. You got this weekend to do it,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and then early voting stops. I think Monday. I think
- 2:31Speaker 2: there's no early voting the day before the election. But
- 2:33Speaker 2: then Tuesday's election day. You'll probably get half the votes
- 2:37Speaker 2: on Tuesday. So, but Cuomo has been picking up a
- 2:42Speaker 2: little steam and he's been picking up endorsements. David Patterson
- 2:46Speaker 2: endorsed him, But then David Patterson has endorsed everybody in
- 2:49Speaker 2: the race. He's endorsed Adams. If Curtiss is saying, don't
- 2:53Speaker 2: endorse me, it's the kiss of death. Eric Adams is
- 2:56Speaker 2: endorsed Cuomo. They were campaigning together. Here they are yesterday, here.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Adams, Governor Patterson, myself. We are Democrats. We've always been Democrats,
- 3:06Speaker 3: we will always be Democrats, and we believe in the
- 3:10Speaker 3: democratic values.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, the only problem is that he keeps, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: making that point, I'm the real I'm the actual Democrat. Well,
- 3:17Speaker 2: he was in the Democratic primary and Democrats rejected him.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Democrats voted against him. He's running now on a third party.
- 3:23Speaker 2: He's not the Democratic nominee, but Adams appeared with him yesterday.
- 3:27Speaker 2: We don't need a socialist masquer rated as a Democrat.
- 3:31Speaker 4: No one's going to get a free ride, no matter
- 3:33Speaker 4: what some people are promising. But there is a great
- 3:37Speaker 4: opportunity for this city if we elect this gentleman right
- 3:42Speaker 4: now next Tuesday.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Now that's the Adams and David Patterson together. So here's
- 3:46Speaker 2: the problem. Everybody hates Cuomo. They thought he was he's
- 3:50Speaker 2: a nice guy in real life, but they just thought
- 3:52Speaker 2: he was the worst governor. He caused the crime wave,
- 3:55Speaker 2: the no bail, no jail, the closing the prisons, letting
- 3:58Speaker 2: all the prisoners out, the taken away the qualified immunity
- 4:01Speaker 2: from cops was a horrible thing to do. Cops could
- 4:05Speaker 2: get sued if they went near anybody, so they had
- 4:08Speaker 2: to be very restrained. I mean, he did so many things.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He totally mismanaged the pandemic. He tried to ban the vaccine.
- 4:15Speaker 2: At one point he blocked Ice and threatened to sue him.
- 4:19Speaker 2: He closed Indian Point that drove up that was twenty
- 4:22Speaker 2: five percent of our power, drove up our electric costs.
- 4:26Speaker 2: He picked Kathy Hockle. He's the reason we're stuck with
- 4:28Speaker 2: Kathy Ogle. He gave us the congestion pricing. He's the
- 4:31Speaker 2: one that pushed that through. So he was just terrible
- 4:34Speaker 2: as governor, But many just think Madamie could actually be worse. Obviously,
- 4:39Speaker 2: they're worried most about public safety. But remember it was
- 4:42Speaker 2: Cuomo that gave us the no Bail no jail. That
- 4:45Speaker 2: one move single handedly caused the crime wave. He's the
- 4:48Speaker 2: one that pushed it like crazy. But people just think
- 4:52Speaker 2: they'd be safer with him than Mom Donnie. He's probably
- 4:55Speaker 2: probably correct, but even Here's Michael Goodwin today, the great
- 4:57Speaker 2: columnists in the New York Post, and he writes, if
- 5:01Speaker 2: anyone had dared to tell me I would actually vote
- 5:04Speaker 2: for Andrew Cuomo again, I would have shot back. Never.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I was thoroughly disgusted with the former governor, applauded his
- 5:13Speaker 2: forced exit from Albany, and saw no evidence he was
- 5:16Speaker 2: doing anything to make himself fit to hold public office again.
- 5:21Speaker 2: In the three plus years since his resignation, he's continued
- 5:25Speaker 2: to play defense attack his critics, including me Goodwin, but
- 5:29Speaker 2: had done nothing to demonstrate he learned anything or accepted
- 5:33Speaker 2: any responsibility for his historic collapse. There were no apologies
- 5:38Speaker 2: for the heartless nursing home tobaccle he caused. There was
- 5:42Speaker 2: no remorse that he was guilty of sexually harassing thirteen
- 5:46Speaker 2: women accused of harassing them. He never said so directly,
- 5:53Speaker 2: but he seemed to believe if he got back into
- 5:54Speaker 2: politics enough, voters enamored with the Cuomo name would give
- 5:59Speaker 2: him a second chance, even if he didn't show them
- 6:02Speaker 2: why he deserved it. Well, that was the problem. In
- 6:06Speaker 2: the primary. He thought just the Cuomo name, the name recognition, whatever,
- 6:11Speaker 2: it would help him. But he got wiped out in
- 6:13Speaker 2: both debates in the primary. He got wiped out in
- 6:15Speaker 2: the popular vote in the primary. But Goodwin says, as
- 6:20Speaker 2: horrible as he thinks Cuomo is, he'll vote for him
- 6:23Speaker 2: just to stop mom Donnie. So you're getting more and
- 6:25Speaker 2: more of that. By the way, every piece of polling
- 6:29Speaker 2: these are all kind of junk polls, a dozen of
- 6:32Speaker 2: them that are out there, but every single one shows
- 6:35Speaker 2: that Curtis got out of the race, Cuomo still would
- 6:38Speaker 2: be behind, So it's not about Curtis. And the most
- 6:42Speaker 2: detailed polling shows if Curtis left, thirty six percent of
- 6:47Speaker 2: his vote would go to Cuomo, giving Cuomo an extra
- 6:49Speaker 2: four percent, So if he's Spout behind ten percent, then
- 6:53Speaker 2: he'd be behind six percent, still not enough to win.
- 6:56Speaker 2: The idea that if Curtis dropped out, all those votes
- 6:59Speaker 2: would go to Cuomo is crazy. It's like saying if
- 7:02Speaker 2: the Yankees lose in the playoffs and don't make the
- 7:05Speaker 2: World Series, all the Yankee fans will then go with
- 7:08Speaker 2: the Red Sox. It doesn't work that way. It may
- 7:10Speaker 2: be some of them just because they like the American League,
- 7:13Speaker 2: would cheer for the Red Sox, but most of the
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yankee fans would not suddenly go to the Red Sox.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Same thing with Curtis. Curtis is not getting out of
- 7:21Speaker 2: the race, no reason why he should. If Cuomo wants
- 7:24Speaker 2: to win this, he's got to win those votes. You
- 7:26Speaker 2: can't just force Sliwa out. Cuomo has to legitimately try
- 7:31Speaker 2: to win those voters away. Well, it looks like there
- 7:33Speaker 2: is some movement like that. He is picking up a
- 7:36Speaker 2: little steam. We'll see if he can do it enough
- 7:40Speaker 2: to close the gap. The race is tighter than the
- 7:42Speaker 2: people think. Mamdani is on course to win. Now. Well,
- 7:48Speaker 2: here's what's interesting. If you try to argue with people
- 7:52Speaker 2: about policies that he supports. In the polling, the majority
- 7:57Speaker 2: of residents don't agree with his policies. This is the
- 8:02Speaker 2: fascinating part. They just like him. The poll found that
- 8:06Speaker 2: New Yorkers favor harsher penalties for fair evasion. They're not
- 8:10Speaker 2: looking for free bus fair They don't like the bail
- 8:14Speaker 2: reform law. Sixty eight percent don't want the free buses.
- 8:19Speaker 2: They thought it would turn them into homeless shelters. He
- 8:22Speaker 2: can go on and on. They're not in favor of
- 8:23Speaker 2: his crime policies, but despite all that, they were still
- 8:26Speaker 2: for them. Now, Mom, Donnie's got all these horrible comments
- 8:30Speaker 2: in the past, you know, they keep coming up. He said,
- 8:33Speaker 2: the NYPD had their boots on your neck. Ist he say,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I think I have it here somewhere. Maybe maybe this
- 8:42Speaker 2: is it. This is from a few years ago.
- 8:43Speaker 5: We have to make clear when the.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah. So he said, when the NYPD boot is on
- 8:55Speaker 2: your neck, it's been laced by the IDF. So that's real, Mom, Donnie.
- 8:58Speaker 2: There he takes a terrible shot of the police and
- 9:01Speaker 2: puts in some anti Semitic, anti Israel nonsense into the
- 9:05Speaker 2: same sentence. So that's what you're dealing with. Uh, here's Curtis.
- 9:09Speaker 3: But he just shows the hate that he has vote
- 9:13Speaker 3: for the idea and the hate that he has for
- 9:16Speaker 3: the NYPD.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so all of this is just horrible. But again
- 9:19Speaker 2: we are seeing a shift of voters who don't like Cuomo.
- 9:23Speaker 2: They hate Clomo, they thought he was a terrible governor.
- 9:26Speaker 2: But there is some movement, some shift over to voting
- 9:29Speaker 2: for Cuomo. We'll see if it's enough. A lot of
- 9:33Speaker 2: people really upset with Kathy Hokele. Now, if Mom Donnie
- 9:36Speaker 2: were to win and be a terrible mayor, that would
- 9:38Speaker 2: be the end of Kathy Hokel. Anybody running against her
- 9:41Speaker 2: would just run the clips of her supporting Mom Donnie
- 9:44Speaker 2: and stickiness with this stuff. She could actually remove him
- 9:47Speaker 2: as mayor, which she won't have the nerve to do.
- 9:50Speaker 2: So that's another reason she'll get voted out of office.
- 9:53Speaker 2: She just panders to him in his socialist crowd. She
- 9:57Speaker 2: was at she appeared at the Mom Donnie rally, and
- 9:59Speaker 2: again she'll never be able to explain that away. What
- 10:02Speaker 2: were you doing at a Mom Donnie rally? Speaking on
- 10:04Speaker 2: his behalf, holding hands with him.
- 10:06Speaker 1: At the rally?
- 10:07Speaker 2: She got booed there, by the way, even the far
- 10:10Speaker 2: left hates her. She was booed. She said, she's not
- 10:16Speaker 2: the brightest woman in the world. They were booing her
- 10:18Speaker 2: like crazy, and she said, I thought they were saying,
- 10:21Speaker 2: let's go bills. Now, if you're going to think of
- 10:25Speaker 2: an excuse, that's why would this was in Forest Hill stadiums.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Why would people in New York City not say let's
- 10:30Speaker 2: go giants jets. Nobody in New York City cares about
- 10:33Speaker 2: the bills. So just looked awful for her. Now, what
- 10:36Speaker 2: if Mom Donnie win? Is there any way to stop him?
- 10:38Speaker 2: If he wins? Yes, if they found out he took
- 10:41Speaker 2: foreign money, knowingly took foreign money into his campaign, they
- 10:45Speaker 2: can remove him from being mayor. That would be the
- 10:48Speaker 2: end of it. Now, there are several groups that have
- 10:51Speaker 2: been working on this, this one called the Coolidge Reagan Foundation.
- 10:56Speaker 2: They have now filed two criminal referrals with the Justice Department.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They've uncovered thirteen thousand and foreign money from one hundred
- 11:06Speaker 2: and seventy donors that went to Mom Donnie. No, it's
- 11:08Speaker 2: not quite that simple. You've got to prove that he
- 11:11Speaker 2: knew about it, but it's enough to file a criminal referral,
- 11:14Speaker 2: have a criminal investigation. There's another one hundred and seventy
- 11:18Speaker 2: incidents that's not isolated. That's a lot of incidents. The
- 11:21Speaker 2: Mam Donnie campaigns at thirty one of the one hundred
- 11:24Speaker 2: and seventy one donors proved their citizenship. Well, he's still
- 11:29Speaker 2: got one hundred and forty left that didn't. The criminal
- 11:33Speaker 2: referral is with the Assistant Attorney General right now, so
- 11:36Speaker 2: he'll be looking at that. Fox News Digital did an investigation.
- 11:39Speaker 2: They uncovered thirteen thousand from donors with foreign addresses, including
- 11:45Speaker 2: one five hundred dollars donation from his mother in law
- 11:48Speaker 2: in Dubai, not an American citizen. Mam Donnie says he
- 11:51Speaker 2: returned the contribution, but as of October fourteenth, filing still
- 11:57Speaker 2: show ninety one foreign donations had been funded. But that
- 12:01Speaker 2: leaves that leaves about sixty of them still out there,
- 12:04Speaker 2: so it's possible they could take him out with that. Also,
- 12:09Speaker 2: any victory of Mandami's would he'd be a terrible mayor.
- 12:13Speaker 2: It would just kill the Democrats right now. Democratic brand
- 12:19Speaker 2: is in real trouble. If he went back to ten
- 12:22Speaker 2: years ago and took a real poll, not a serious poll,
- 12:26Speaker 2: fifty percent of voters viewed the Democratic Party is out
- 12:29Speaker 2: of touch. Half okay, that makes sense, but it's now
- 12:32Speaker 2: up to seventy percent. The majority of the country thinks
- 12:36Speaker 2: the Democratic Party is totally completely out of touch. So
- 12:40Speaker 2: we'll see what happens as the early voting continues. Now,
- 12:46Speaker 2: if we get about a million votes, a million one,
- 12:49Speaker 2: a million two, which is low twenty thirty percent turnout,
- 12:54Speaker 2: it looks like it could head to two million. You
- 12:56Speaker 2: could get sixty percent, seventy percent turnout. If the voting
- 13:00Speaker 2: gets to two million, that probably could give you a
- 13:03Speaker 2: Cuomo victory. Probably it has to get to about two million,
- 13:08Speaker 2: but it looks like it could be headed there. So
- 13:10Speaker 2: there's all these endorsements. Now, Michael Goodwin says he hates
- 13:13Speaker 2: Cuomo as much as it, but he's going to vote
- 13:15Speaker 2: for him. Here you got a woman who this kind
- 13:19Speaker 2: of went viral online. She says, Cuomo murdered my husband.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I think she's referring to the nursing homes. Cuomo murdered
- 13:29Speaker 2: my husband. But I'm still going to vote for him.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So you're getting a lot of that. So there is
- 13:33Speaker 2: a shift going on right now. Now in New Jersey.
- 13:37Speaker 2: It's very very very tight nobody can tell what's going
- 13:40Speaker 2: to happen. Now, these endorsements don't mean much of anything.
- 13:43Speaker 2: You know, when Cuomo announces, oh, the Electricians Union endorsed me.
- 13:47Speaker 2: They're nice people. But I don't think anybody when they
- 13:50Speaker 2: want to know who to vote for, asks they're Electrician.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It doesn't mean anything. Even the big name the newspaper
- 13:57Speaker 2: endorsements generally mean nothing. Rally's trying to get endorsements. He's
- 14:01Speaker 2: got a Trump. Trump's not going to come to New Jersey,
- 14:04Speaker 2: but it's gonna be some sort of video endorsement. Mikey
- 14:08Speaker 2: Cheryl brought in Obama to give an indorsement. Here's the
- 14:11Speaker 2: latest Chitarelli endorsement. Kelsey Grammar, Hi, Kelsey Grammar.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Here. You already know that I'm from New Jersey.
- 14:18Speaker 2: No, wait, stop it. Did you know he's from New Jersey?
- 14:21Speaker 2: I never know he's from New Jersey. Is there anything
- 14:24Speaker 2: about him that suggests he's from New Jersey?
- 14:26Speaker 6: No?
- 14:26Speaker 7: Why I'm talking to you right now. There's a lot
- 14:29Speaker 7: of famous folks who grew up in Jersey. But some
- 14:32Speaker 7: of them seem content to let you guys go on
- 14:34Speaker 7: living on a prayer. Others have just forgotten that you
- 14:38Speaker 7: were born in the USA too. But once Jack wins,
- 14:41Speaker 7: and I think he's got a good chance of winning,
- 14:43Speaker 7: it's gonna make it a lot easier to just shake
- 14:46Speaker 7: it off.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I don't know. That's not a very good not a
- 14:52Speaker 2: good commercial. I don't know.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It's like just picture him and Niles in the in
- 14:57Speaker 2: the little cafe, they're talking. No, no, not a powerful endorsement. Anyway,
- 15:02Speaker 2: We'll see what happens. We'll get back to the mayor
- 15:03Speaker 2: all race. We'll get back to that. The President is
- 15:06Speaker 2: continuing the trip. You'll read that he's going to meet
- 15:10Speaker 2: with President She Thursday morning, but with the massive time difference,
- 15:15Speaker 2: Thursday morning is late tonight, so it'll be late tonight
- 15:18Speaker 2: that he meets with She. So far, it's been a
- 15:20Speaker 2: very very successful trip. Lots of agreements, lots of deals
- 15:23Speaker 2: have been signed, great for the United States, and so
- 15:26Speaker 2: they call deliverables. He's gotten a lot of different deliverables
- 15:29Speaker 2: on this trip. We'll get to the shutdown coming up.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Chuck Schumer says, this is outrageous. It's outrageous, this is horrifying.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Forty two million people on foodstamps might not get their
- 15:41Speaker 2: benefits but most people on to hear this. Go Wait
- 15:44Speaker 2: a minute, forty two million people are on food stamps.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Why weren't you outraged about that? You should have been
- 15:51Speaker 2: screaming for years that forty two million people are on
- 15:53Speaker 2: food stamps. That's not right. Somebody that did just the
- 15:56Speaker 2: sign of his failed leadership. Anyway, we'll get back to
- 15:59Speaker 2: all of this up. We'll take some calls. Next. Eight
- 16:01Speaker 2: hundred three to two one zero seven ten. Is the
- 16:05Speaker 2: number eight hundred three two one zero seven ten. You're
- 16:10Speaker 2: listening to the Mark Simone Show. Hey, let's take some calls.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Let's go to Mike and Long Island. Mike, how you doing?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Hey, Mark, good morning, Good morning, Mark.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I got a question to you.
- 16:25Speaker 1: In this city, we probably have fifty percent.
- 16:27Speaker 7: I don't know what the numbers are of voters that
- 16:29Speaker 7: are completely uneducated.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Don't follow what city you're talking about, New York City.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Well you're not in New York City.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Okay, but it's even though the rest.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Well, you can't you you're just making up statistics. Fifty
- 16:42Speaker 2: percent or not on he can't just make up don't
- 16:45Speaker 2: you can't just make up stuff like that. Let's go
- 16:48Speaker 2: to Jerry in New Jersey. Jerry, how you doing good?
- 16:52Speaker 1: Mark?
- 16:52Speaker 6: How are you?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Let me check you're good. See they don't really care.
- 16:56Speaker 2: They just say how you're doing, but they don't the answer. Yes,
- 16:58Speaker 2: go ahead, yeah, go ahead.
- 17:00Speaker 6: You believe that Andrew Clomo really wants to be mayor
- 17:05Speaker 6: after being CEO. I think they're dusting him off to
- 17:10Speaker 6: see if he can run against AOC and take Schumer's
- 17:13Speaker 6: seat in the Senate.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, no, obviously when your governor,
- 17:18Speaker 2: mayor is a big step down. Although it's more fun
- 17:22Speaker 2: to be mayor. Actually, nobody wants to go to Albany mayor.
- 17:27Speaker 2: You're in city Hall, you liveing in Gracie mansion. It's
- 17:29Speaker 2: nicer than the governor's mansion, better located. But you're right,
- 17:33Speaker 2: you're right. He's plotting his whole life. He's been plotting
- 17:35Speaker 2: to be president.
- 17:36Speaker 6: And did you see him with Stephonica's governor after she
- 17:40Speaker 6: said you'll never serve again.
- 17:43Speaker 2: That's a good point. Yeah, that's the problem with Cloma.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You don't you never know what he's really up to.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But the argument is, Mom, Donnie is so horrible, so horrible,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you'd vote for him. It's like, this is like the
- 17:57Speaker 2: worst mess New York has ever gotten into. And you
- 18:00Speaker 2: Democrats got us into this with your primary there without
- 18:05Speaker 2: anybody you'd want to vote for. It was Mom, Donnie
- 18:08Speaker 2: and then the lowest worst people in the world to
- 18:11Speaker 2: Brad Lander types and the worst people have you ever seen?
- 18:15Speaker 2: In the primary in Cuomo couldn't even beat them. He
- 18:16Speaker 2: got wiped out in his own primary. But we'll see.
- 18:20Speaker 2: We got six days left until the election. Let's go
- 18:22Speaker 2: to Rich in Myrtle Beach. Rich How you doing?
- 18:25Speaker 5: Hey?
- 18:25Speaker 6: Thanks?
- 18:26Speaker 1: Mark. A couple of things. Any connection the fact that
- 18:28Speaker 1: us AID got defunded. Now the Democrats are broke and
- 18:31Speaker 1: they're all screaming if they will need money. That's pretty coincidental.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Up, Yeah, that could be that us AID was basically
- 18:40Speaker 2: just a slush fund. You know, it was to bribe
- 18:42Speaker 2: people all over the place, and a lot of Democrats
- 18:45Speaker 2: profited off of this. Shutdown is not going well for Democrats. Republicans.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Their messaging is very good on this. The problem is
- 18:54Speaker 2: Trump controls the White House, so he makes the shutdown
- 18:58Speaker 2: is not painful. Remember when Obama was president and he
- 19:03Speaker 2: did the shutdown, he tried to make it deliberately as
- 19:06Speaker 2: painful as possibly. He closed everything, even though he didn't
- 19:09Speaker 2: have to. They closed monuments World War Two monuments that
- 19:13Speaker 2: didn't require any staffing. There was no reason to close him.
- 19:17Speaker 2: He just wanted to make it look painful, so he
- 19:19Speaker 2: had them closed and the yellow police tape was put
- 19:22Speaker 2: all around him and they were closed up just so
- 19:24Speaker 2: everywhere it looked was a symbol of closure, even though
- 19:27Speaker 2: there was no reason to close those things. Let's go
- 19:29Speaker 2: to David and Passaic. David, how you.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Doing, good morning.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I want to reminisce what will happened on the Montdani
- 19:37Speaker 5: In the late seventies, property valleys went down, taxes went up,
- 19:42Speaker 5: There was a lot of fires.
- 19:43Speaker 2: In the South.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Bronx had gangs, even have Gerald Ford told New York
- 19:49Speaker 5: City dropped dead, remember that.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that was more mid seventies. That was under a
- 19:53Speaker 2: beam and.
- 19:55Speaker 5: A beam right in the Financial Review Board took over
- 19:59Speaker 5: and the city was bankrupt. Garbage was all over the streets.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, no way. Which party was that? Oh yeah it
- 20:06Speaker 2: was Democrats there once again they don't do good at
- 20:09Speaker 2: running the cities.
- 20:10Speaker 5: You know who got to start? Then go to sleeve
- 20:13Speaker 5: in the subways. That's when he started the angels. Angels.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, back then. There was quite a year. There's a
- 20:19Speaker 2: big mini series about nineteen seventy seven. It was an
- 20:22Speaker 2: incredible year. You're right. It was fires and crime, and
- 20:26Speaker 2: it was the sun of sam summer, and it was
- 20:29Speaker 2: the Yankees and Reggie. It was quite that. It's somewhere online.
- 20:32Speaker 2: You can find that nineteen seventy seven. It's a documentary series.
- 20:36Speaker 2: But it is fascinating to watch. Go back and watch
- 20:40Speaker 2: it if you can. I guess how bad could mom
- 20:44Speaker 2: Downy be? Probably? Well, remember we went through this with
- 20:47Speaker 2: the Blasio who was it didn't declare himself as socialist,
- 20:51Speaker 2: but he was pretty much a socialist. Anyway, let's take
- 20:54Speaker 2: some calls. Let's go to line too. You're on the air.
- 20:56Speaker 2: How you doing, Oh, Mark Good?
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's rout from anybody who believes that nine to eleven
- 21:06Speaker 1: was about Islamophobia should never be Mayor of New York.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, it's like he's like the Muslim house Sharpton.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I guess you know, Sharpton always plays the race card
- 21:17Speaker 2: even when it doesn't apply, and he's playing that Islamophobia
- 21:21Speaker 2: card when it doesn't apply. There's not this has never
- 21:24Speaker 2: been a problem in New York City. New York city
- 21:27Speaker 2: is a Muslim city. It's eleven percent Muslim. The Jewish
- 21:31Speaker 2: population is only eleven percent. You get the same number
- 21:34Speaker 2: with Muslims eleven percent. And if you talk to the
- 21:37Speaker 2: NYPD and look over all the data, there's not an
- 21:40Speaker 2: a tax on Muslims. It's not happening. Attacks on Jews, yes, yes,
- 21:45Speaker 2: in great numbers. Anti Semitic attacks by the thousands for
- 21:49Speaker 2: the last couple of years. You've seen them all over
- 21:51Speaker 2: the news. And if you look through NYPD data, it's
- 21:55Speaker 2: tons of anti Semitic attacks, anti Muslim attacks. You will
- 21:58Speaker 2: not find any in the city. It really doesn't happen. Obviously.
- 22:02Speaker 2: It was something people thought about right after nine to eleven,
- 22:05Speaker 2: but it didn't result in much of anything. Hey, when
- 22:08Speaker 2: we come back, Roger Friedman, the Great entertainment reporter, he'll
- 22:12Speaker 2: be with us. Next we'll get back to the mayoral race. Hey,
- 22:14Speaker 2: we'll talk to Bruce Blakeman later. He's got a lot
- 22:16Speaker 2: to say about mom Donnie. He's also the guy you
- 22:19Speaker 2: should vote for Nassau County best county Executive in America.
- 22:23Speaker 2: But all of that's coming up on seven to ten.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Woor The Mark sim Own Show.
- 22:28Speaker 1: On sevent ten woor Well.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Roger Friedman is the great entertainment reporter. He has a
- 22:36Speaker 2: website you should check every day. There's always news stories,
- 22:38Speaker 2: showbiz for one one dot com, showbizfo one one dot com.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Roger Friedman, how you doing.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I'm really doing great because once mom Donnie is mayor
- 22:50Speaker 1: all tickets to Broadway shows will be free and all
- 22:54Speaker 1: the restaurants around them we'll be serving free food and empty.
- 22:58Speaker 2: At the same time. But hey speak Yeah, speaking of Broadway,
- 23:01Speaker 2: everything is settled, right They had all these strike threats,
- 23:03Speaker 2: that's all settled now.
- 23:04Speaker 1: All the strikes have been settled, which was very smart
- 23:07Speaker 1: because it's a tricky time on Broadway. The last thing
- 23:10Speaker 1: anyone needed was a strike. And things are back to
- 23:14Speaker 1: normal and Broadway is booming right now. Actually, you know,
- 23:19Speaker 1: Hamilton is doing incredible business. Last week it did three
- 23:24Speaker 1: point four million dollars, which is insane, and it's been
- 23:29Speaker 1: doing that right along since they brought back their Tony
- 23:33Speaker 1: winning star Leslie Odam Jr. For a run. That's I
- 23:37Speaker 1: guess going through the winter January maybe, and people will
- 23:43Speaker 1: pay anything to get into the show. They're premium tickets
- 23:46Speaker 1: for fifteen hundred dollars and they're all sold out. People
- 23:50Speaker 1: will pay absolutely anything to get in there. And other
- 23:54Speaker 1: shows are doing great. There's a new show called Queen
- 23:56Speaker 1: of Versailles with Kristin Chenowith that's also doing great business.
- 24:03Speaker 2: We have what is Queen ever? Size? About that woman
- 24:05Speaker 2: with the House in Florida.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Yes, it's about the woman with the house in Florida,
- 24:10Speaker 1: And yeah, and f Murray Abrahams and I think he
- 24:13Speaker 1: plays her husband. And the songs are really good and
- 24:17Speaker 1: that's gonna be a big hit.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:19Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, we have a lot and Chess
- 24:22Speaker 1: is coming. Did you ever see Chess the first time around?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Andrew Weber?
- 24:27Speaker 2: No?
- 24:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, one night in Bangkok. It's a very popular show.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And you know, the book was never good. The songs
- 24:35Speaker 1: were great, but the books book was never good. So
- 24:37Speaker 1: they got this great guy, Danny Strong, to rewrite the
- 24:39Speaker 1: whole show. And now that show is selling out in
- 24:42Speaker 1: previews like crazy, I mean totally sold out. So we
- 24:47Speaker 1: have a Broadway is booming. And I just put up
- 24:51Speaker 1: a story on Showbiz for one one that Daniel Radcliffe
- 24:54Speaker 1: is coming from Harry Potter, who already has a Tony
- 24:57Speaker 1: Award for Merrily We Roll Along and he's going to
- 25:01Speaker 1: be in a one man show this winter that's being
- 25:04Speaker 1: imported from England that's supposed to be terrific. And as
- 25:08Speaker 1: long as they don't charge seven hundred dollars a ticket,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I think they'll be Okay.
- 25:12Speaker 2: No, no, it's good news. I'm glad Broadway's doing so well.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Hey.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I walking by a Rockefeller Center on Radio City's marquee
- 25:18Speaker 2: right above it. It was the first Christmas tree I
- 25:21Speaker 2: saw this year. That Christmas tree above the Marquee is
- 25:23Speaker 2: up already. It's a little early.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Oh is it really it's there already.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Yeah. There's a great story about I'm an editor they
- 25:33Speaker 1: brought into the New Yorker from England, which was like
- 25:37Speaker 1: her in nineteen ninety and they bring this guy in
- 25:40Speaker 1: and he's an older guy and he's never been to
- 25:42Speaker 1: New York before, and somehow he got a job working
- 25:45Speaker 1: as an editor of New Yorker. And he comes back
- 25:47Speaker 1: after lunch and he says to the people in the office,
- 25:50Speaker 1: oh my god, we have to do this story. There's
- 25:52Speaker 1: a big tree going up in Rockefeller Center. Well, and
- 26:00Speaker 1: everyone was like, uh huh.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Speaking of Christmas though, this is the we're a little early.
- 26:08Speaker 2: But pretty soon that Christmas music will start everywhere. And
- 26:11Speaker 2: then you wrote about Mariah Carey. But yes, it's the
- 26:14Speaker 2: only time of the year. A lot of people who
- 26:16Speaker 2: don't know who these people are start to hear Andy
- 26:18Speaker 2: Williams and Nat King Cole and all that stuff. So
- 26:21Speaker 2: it's a great Also, you know, I'm thinking of Brenda Lee.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Brenda Lee, Brenda Lee. Sometimes her song goes all the
- 26:32Speaker 1: way up to number one during Christmas time. She's about
- 26:36Speaker 1: ninety and they had you know, they go and they
- 26:38Speaker 1: wake her up and they tell her what's going on,
- 26:39Speaker 1: and she shocked. Well, Mariah Carrey had an album out
- 26:44Speaker 1: a few weeks ago that nobody bought, which was a
- 26:48Speaker 1: pretty good album. It was very well sung and had
- 26:51Speaker 1: nice songs, but nobody wanted to hear it, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: bad marketing. Also that Mariah doesn't really get out and
- 27:00Speaker 1: push stuff. She expects you to come to her. But
- 27:04Speaker 1: she loves the Christmas season and she has the best
- 27:08Speaker 1: selling Christmas song of all time with All I Really
- 27:10Speaker 1: Want for Christmas Is You or whatever it's called. Sounds
- 27:14Speaker 1: like a Phil Spector song, and it's sold about a
- 27:16Speaker 1: billion copies. And every year around this time she starts
- 27:20Speaker 1: putting little messages on social media. Not yet, not yet,
- 27:23Speaker 1: We're not ready yet. And then she goes out and
- 27:26Speaker 1: she has her big Christmas season. It lasts about six weeks,
- 27:29Speaker 1: so we're about to see Mariah's Christmas season. And that's
- 27:33Speaker 1: how we know.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Roger Freeman, too many documentaries. It's enough with these documentaries.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I know. It's the cheapest thing to do. It's cheaper
- 27:41Speaker 2: than making an actual movie.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Oh. No, documentaries are fabulous. I'll tell you why. Documentaries
- 27:45Speaker 1: are more important than ever. No, they're more important than ever,
- 27:48Speaker 1: and I'll tell you why. The reason is as funding
- 27:52Speaker 1: gets cut for PBS and National Public radio, where we
- 27:58Speaker 1: get a lot of information, and as the networks like
- 28:02Speaker 1: CBS today is laying off a thousand people, as the
- 28:05Speaker 1: networks are contracting and not doing so much documentary work
- 28:09Speaker 1: or newswork. Independent documentaries are really a huge source of
- 28:14Speaker 1: information for us, and we're getting to find out things
- 28:17Speaker 1: from around the world that we wouldn't know. Critics Choice Association,
- 28:23Speaker 1: which I'm part of, has a big awards ceremony on
- 28:26Speaker 1: November ninth over at the Ballroom on forty seventh Street,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and that's a very important thing. The Gotham Awards just
- 28:37Speaker 1: announced their awards coming up, nominations coming up, and they
- 28:41Speaker 1: have five terrific documentaries and then we'll have the Oscars.
- 28:46Speaker 1: You can't. I feel that you cannot have enough documentaries
- 28:49Speaker 1: to illuminate subjects around the world that we would not
- 28:52Speaker 1: have acted.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Most of them are about you know, there's a new
- 28:55Speaker 2: one Stiller in Mara.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Now.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I love Stiller and Mara.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I know it's great.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I knew Stiller and Marra. Yeah, what's like happened to
- 29:03Speaker 2: dozing off halfway through? What am I watch?
- 29:05Speaker 1: Oh? No, I watched. I loved it. I loved them.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I knew them too. We were very lucky to live
- 29:11Speaker 1: in New York and know them. And although I never
- 29:14Speaker 1: had Blue Nune Wine, Ben Stiller, their son has done
- 29:19Speaker 1: a great job documenting their career and it's on Apple TV.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I recommend it for it's so enjoyable to see them again.
- 29:28Speaker 2: All right, maybe just see I'd rather go to YouTube
- 29:30Speaker 2: and just watch Stiller in Marra and he Ed Sullivan
- 29:32Speaker 2: show on The Tonight Show or watch.
- 29:34Speaker 1: But you wouldn't, but we would because we're one hundred
- 29:37Speaker 1: and fifteen years old. But for younger people who are
- 29:40Speaker 1: Ben Stiller fans, let's say, and they don't know anything
- 29:43Speaker 1: about Stilar mirror. They're learning about his parents for the
- 29:45Speaker 1: first time through this documentary. Then they're going to go
- 29:48Speaker 1: to YouTube and look at the clips, but they don't
- 29:50Speaker 1: know offhand that they should be doing that. Do you
- 29:53Speaker 1: see what I mean? Yeah, Okay, this is giving them
- 29:55Speaker 1: entry away to that Stiller mirror. So I think that's terrific.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Now you're right about But there's another documentary coming or
- 30:01Speaker 2: is it a biopic CCR Creeden's Clearwater Revival.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Oh well, Creeden's you know, Queen's Clearwater Revival is huge.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's so weird that, you know, fifty sixty years after
- 30:13Speaker 1: they had hits, they're bigger than Effort. You know that
- 30:16Speaker 1: their greatest hits winds up in the top twenty every
- 30:20Speaker 1: week on iTunes. Wow, no one knows what, No one
- 30:23Speaker 1: knows why. But the songs are great. You know, They'll
- 30:25Speaker 1: stop the Rain, have you ever seen the Rain? Proud Mary?
- 30:28Speaker 1: All these songs and they're being played on the radio constantly.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So now you know. This Bruce Springsteen movie is out
- 30:36Speaker 1: called Deliver Me from Nowhere, and the people who made
- 30:40Speaker 1: it really want to make a movie about John Fogerty
- 30:43Speaker 1: and Creeden's because you know, the great story, the crazy
- 30:47Speaker 1: story about them is that in the seventies, John Fogerty
- 30:51Speaker 1: lost the rights to all his songs and it took
- 30:54Speaker 1: him like twenty years to get them back, and in
- 30:57Speaker 1: the meantime he just sort of had to disavow them
- 30:59Speaker 1: and go and play other songs. He would have been
- 31:02Speaker 1: charged by this company that bought them if he had
- 31:05Speaker 1: played them. Wow, it's a crazy story. Yeah, And John
- 31:09Speaker 1: Fogerty is one of the good guys of all time
- 31:12Speaker 1: in music. Everyone loves him. So they're waiting to see
- 31:17Speaker 1: if the Springsteen movie gets a lot of awards. I
- 31:20Speaker 1: think it'll have a lot of awards action this winter,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and then they're going to announce that John Fogerty movie.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Oh no, there'll be a whole new genre. There'll be
- 31:28Speaker 2: a Freddie in the Dreamers movie. They'll be Oh, I
- 31:30Speaker 2: hope so Gilbert Sullivan. It won't stop.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Jerry and the Pacemakers. There you go.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Well, Roger Friedman great stuff. Check out his website showbiz
- 31:41Speaker 2: for one one dot com. Showbiz for one one dot com,

- 32:54Speaker 2: eight too, all of that in the next hour right
- 32:57Speaker 2: here on seven to ten w
