- speaker-0: and our waiter comes over and he begins to pet my hair. What's the craziest thing you've tried that you're like, this is bonkers? ⁓ speaker-1: He did not touch your head. ⁓ that day like I overdosed myself on rosemary oil. speaker-0: Hey Lisa, how you doing? Good, how are you? Good, do you like my sparkly top? Thank you, I got a- speaker-1: I love it. I mean, honestly, we don't wear sequins enough. speaker-0: No, seriously, I have a full sequence romper. it's badass. Nobody invites me anywhere that I can wear it, but that's okay. Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, High Five Hot Mess, where we glow up, show up, and then spill something a hundred times at a time. I'm your co-host, Lisa Wadden. And we are excited to get into it this week. So Lisa, how has your week been? speaker-1: Bye! and I'm your co-host Lisa Smith. Wow. I mean, it's been one for the books. think, I don't know how many times I text you this week. ⁓ today's fascinating. no, I expect a miracle today. All the things. ⁓ so first of all, it hasn't been a bad week. It's been a week. I think as we, ⁓ I don't know, continue to, you know, our life shapes. speaker-0: I made it! speaker-1: so differently, right? We've got work, we've got, you know, personal family stuff, we've got, you know, our own personal journeys that we're working on. Like, it's a busy, it's a busy life. Yeah, know you have a busy life, I have a very busy life, and this week did not slow down at all. I mean, I had, ⁓ we entered the year of the fire horse. speaker-0: Let's walk through a little bit of why we are both so excited for the year of the firehorse. Can you walk me through that? speaker-1: Yeah, I've been looking forward to this year for a while. I know, you know, as we kind of move through the Chinese, you know, animal cycle, if you will, the 12-year cycle, the year of the snake is always about shedding, getting rid of moving on from ⁓ starting something over, right? Like leaving something behind and starting something new. And so year of the horse is just that it comes in with a lot of passion and a lot of creativity and just a lot of force. But this year, it's the year of the fire horse. fire energy on top of that ignition, ⁓ that fast moving energy is really exciting. mean, this is the year where you can you know, achieve those dreams. I mean, you can achieve your dreams any year, but this is just one of those years where there's a lot of momentum that can help get you there. But really looking forward to it. Yeah. And so speaker-0: Yeah. Ryan. So one of the things that I first learned about the year of the fire horse through you, because Lisa is really into feng shui, and she's really into making sure that all her energies and chakras are appropriately aligned to optimize what she's kind of going after. And then there's me, it's like, eh, so I'm kind of like, okay, but listen, she's gotten me excited about it because It is large tectonic shifts. And our friend, Lisa Ryan, who is the co- is the host of the Joy-Filled Universe, has this kind of perspective in life that is like whatever you wish for, you're going to get. Lisa and I were talking about this, hey, like, what do you, if you could have anything you want and you were going to wish for it, what would it be? after much discussion. Lisa's quest is to find peace, to be where she's happy, where she's peaceful. For me, I want to be blissfully happy. Like whatever that means, I don't know, but that's my goal for this year, right? in this week is the first week and we've been talking about this since like November. speaker-1: You guys are just. speaker-0: Getting in on the group chat about how excited we are about Year of the Fire, or so we'll get you caught up as much as we can. But if this is the year that if there is something that you've been waiting for, if there's going on, if you've been waiting for a sign from the universe to take action, or whatever it is, this is the year that is going to have the most momentum and power to make that happen. I kind of sound like a cult leader, but I'm not. speaker-1: Well no, that was a good overview. ⁓ speaker-0: I'm super versed in this, but that is the year of the fire horse through my personal lens, right? So all the things that Lisa and I are going be talking about, this podcast, all the stuff we do on the podcast, it's all through that lens of finding peace and being blissfully happy, but also knowing what it's like to go to Target in your pajamas and yesterday's makeup, right? this is life. Like we can't always be prepared for every challenges that hits us as we go. And like this week specifically, I think we've both been feeling that. Like your week is crazy, you've got a lot going on with your family, you've got a lot going on at work. For me, was, last week was New Year's, so for work it's been, like last week I didn't have a job, this week I do. So year of the fire horse, already working in my favor. High five. speaker-1: It'll be positive, but big changes. speaker-0: And that's the other thing is Lisa and I are both very pragmatic people. Okay, so what I mean when I say pragmatic is we're like, meh. We just don't believe in the unbelievable, but we're both trying to be very positive. So no matter what terrible thing has befallen us this week, we've both been kind of like, okay. speaker-1: Yeah. Maybe. speaker-0: Well, that was interesting. Like Lisa, that's her thing. That's interesting. And I'm like, we'll be fine. And that's something we say all the time. Me this week, work wasn't what was kind of strange. So Valentine's Day happened. When you've been unwrapping the same present for 30 years, like my poor husband, it kind of loses its like, pizzazz, right? So we've gotten to the point in our relationship that it's like, oh, we're going to go to dinner. anything that was like fussy. I did shower and I did do my hair, which means I was really showing up for business. And he got me these cupcakes. So there's a bakery called TSP Cupcakes, which they were on my top. He doesn't buy me flowers, he buys me cupcakes because he gets, that's my jam. So I was like, okay, so for Valentine's Day, let's just keep it low key. And we're going to go to a place near our house where like, we know the waiters, we know the staff and he was like, great, let's do that. So we go in and they have like, like, and they really tried, but they have like these kind of nasty napkins and fake flowers. like, it kind of looks like a really cheap version of Valentine's Day. you were in high school and setting up Valentine's Day for someone on your first Valentine's Day date. This is probably what you'd think. speaker-1: cheese Okay. Okay, okay. Trying to fix it. speaker-0: Like the napkin shape like hearts and like, oh, cruise ship vibes. Thank you. 100 % cruise ship vibes. then. speaker-1: Like, cruise ship vibes, like. ⁓ Nothing against cruise ships, just... speaker-0: So we sat down and our waiter comes over and he was like, ⁓ it's so good to see you guys. And we're like, ⁓ thanks. And he's like, wow. And he's like, stops. like, your hair looks so pretty. I'm like, ⁓ thank you. I appreciate that. He's like, it's so shiny. And he begins to pet my hair. He was like petting it and talking to Doug. And he's like petting my speaker-1: She did not touch your- Personal space and texture hair? speaker-0: Okay, bro. And then like he like caught himself because he then he like looks at me and he looks at his hand and he's like, ⁓ I'll be right back with those. And I was like, all right, well, I wasn't expecting a pat down on my head. So like it was very much like, was trying very hard to like not be super cringe. speaker-1: you speaker-0: But like on a cringe scale, like one to five, it was definitely like right up there. So we had a guest, one of my husband's friends stayed the weekend with us. And I had laundry. this is not at the same weekend. This was a long time ago, but as far as like a cringe range. So I did my laundry and I do, my underwear was in the dryer and I went to spin class and I came home and all of my underwear was folded on the table. I'm like, so I go, Doug, did you fold my underwear? speaker-1: Okay. Yes? speaker-0: He's like, why would I do that? His dude friend needed to do laundry, so he pulled it out. speaker-1: ⁓ I'm so uncomfy. speaker-0: Out of five, I was like, hi cringe. This was like a three and a half. So yeah, that was my week. anyway. ⁓ speaker-1: Well, I mean, it definitely sounds like a little bit more eventful week, but I didn't do anything for Valentine's Day, but maybe sometime. Storm Climb. speaker-0: Well, you know what? We're gonna put it and you guys will learn what we're talking about later. I'm putting it on the board. That's one of my hats. All right. So we got through the week and I think we're doing it right. And I mean, I don't think I cried this week. So that was good. Did you have a little cry this week? If you did, that's okay. speaker-1: I mean, I did a little bit and it was one of those moments I think where I was overwhelmed. I got overwhelmed with just a few things and I got overwhelmed. Like there was a parent moment that I got a little overwhelmed with and that's usually what will break me. A lot of times it's not going to be, it's not always like the same thing, but It's a guaranteed crack. And so, yeah, I really felt the energy come in strong this week. Like for real. Yeah, I was super happy, like high, high, and some pretty low lows. But all in all, we're here. Right? Like we're here, we showed up. ⁓ I got over it. think for me, it's that mom guilt that I get. speaker-0: Bye. speaker-1: could spend my whole life sometimes just feeling like I could be better, should be better, should be doing this, should be doing that. And I think it just caught me this week. And so it was kind of rough, but we have made a really good intention to, when we get into that space, to really try to think of something positive to get us out because we can stay there for a while, right? speaker-0: Yeah, I mean, you and I definitely, I mean, we've talked about this is that you start to, when you only look at negative things, what you ingest becomes who you are, right? So we have been talking a lot about how to, and this is going to sound really cheesy. again, coming from two pragmatic individuals, it's shocking. If you knew, I should be like, yeah, right. Let's see how, let's start the clock on this activity. Like we really tried to say, I'm not going to ingest so much negativity. I'm not going to ingest so much doom scrolling. Even though I might be surrounded by total idiots, I'm going to see the positive in every single one of them. And that is going to be what comes out of my mouth. It's not going to be my frustration or like the mom guilt. It's going to be here's what I did right. To try to like reprogram our brains to vibrate higher and to think more. speaker-1: ⁓ Yeah, that's a really good point because what we put out there is what we're gonna get back, right? And so, and one of the lowest vibrations is guilt, fear, and I think that's what kind of comes ⁓ that can really kind of knock me off my chair sometimes, and I really have to consciously try to get out of that vibration because if I just keep putting out negative, you know, all I'm getting back. speaker-0: to get back. really like, and we're hopefully I'm going to have Lisa on the podcast, we're going to have her as a guest because I really think a lot of us are doing this to ourselves sometimes. know what I mean? You are where your choices have brought you and I say that all the time and I believe it in my heart of hearts. Sometimes just shitty stuff happens. if you don't catch yourself, it becomes all shitty all the time. And I think that's I kind of got speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: there were some dark spots last year. And I think everybody knows what I'm talking about. We all have that thing where we've got a group of people and one person is always the last person you want to show up and they always show up first and you're like, But we're really trying to change that right now and be like, okay, here's what's great about this person. And you guys, it works. It really works because again, the more positivity you put out, the more positivity you get. But then sometimes you also just need to like... detour from your life into what Lisa and I love to call our pop culture obsessions. like trash for our minds. Maybe I think it's a way to put it. speaker-1: There are days where I don't know if I could get through some of the things without just some really great reality TV. speaker-0: something this week that you're like yes I can't get enough of it. speaker-1: Well, I'm trying to catch up. You know that I'm a big Housewives gal. mean, the entire franchise I love, but there's some cities I love more than others. And I'm trying to catch up on Beverly Hills because I really do like the addition of Rachel Zoe. think she's... I love the fashion that she's bringing on screen. She's also... I think been so real this season. ⁓ She's going through a divorce and just like the, yeah, I mean, she's at the top of her game as it relates to her career, but her personal life was crumbling, right? And I think you just, you've really saw some vulnerability from her this season and just got to kind of take a step into her life. so anyway, I really like her, the addition and... And then there's a new character, Amanda. I can't get enough of... speaker-0: I don't watch any reactions like this so I love hearing this. So like why do you like Amanda? speaker-1: Because, okay, she comes on, she's new this season, so she's like a new friend, if you will. And the girls are just, kind of like, they're kind of getting in there with her. She doesn't read the room well. I think she's one of those people who thinks she maybe is richer, smarter, prettier, better than anyone else, right? ⁓ Like she's written a book, she's all about manifesting your life, but she's kind of tone deaf. That's probably the best way for me to say it. And it's just not going over well. they're not, anyway, she's funny. She's a good addition because she's so clueless. ⁓ You could tell she's new money. She's not old money. She's new money. So there's a different, it's very different. ⁓ But yeah, I'm really liking the addition of Rachel. So I think she's bringing it this season. speaker-0: I watched the original of Real Housewives of Orange County. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, it's clear about in the day. speaker-0: And I only got through it because like, listen, you guys, try to make room for all types of women and all types of personalities, but I really don't like it when they start tearing other women down. For example, this week I tried to watch the documentary on America's Next Top Model. I couldn't do it because I couldn't see the women tear each other down. And I couldn't see how they all kind of... speaker-1: I couldn't do it. speaker-0: just acted like what they had done and said was okay. I just, yeah, look, there are some really good docudramas, like the one from Victoria's Secrets, ⁓ you know, the one that was from Limited Ink or the one from American Apparel. you guys... It was so, so good. I mean, I think I love checking out and like doing all that stuff. This week... speaker-1: one was really good. Yeah, what did you what did you watch this week or what did you? This week ⁓ speaker-0: As we all know, I love lady porn. don't watch porn. I read it like a fucking lady. And I have some authors that I absolutely love. But at the very tippy top of the pyramid is J.R. Ward. He came out with a new book this week. And it's a new series. speaker-1: Valentine's Day. speaker-0: time for me, a gift to me. Ground of War and Shadow is the name of the book and it's things that like, she only comes out with one or two a year. So when one comes out, like I hoard it a little bit, like I don't dive into it. Getting into lady porn is like getting into a pool. Like you got to get in a little bit, like get used to the temperature, get used to it and be like... You know, you're like, ⁓ that's, that's, that's crazy. And then at the end, you're like, I didn't know that was my kink. had no idea that I was really into this. Right. So for me, the pop culture session for this week for sure is JR Awards new book. I'll wait to read it. I will let you guys know. I've read everything she has ever written, even under other author names. ⁓ She does a lot of paranormal like. speaker-1: Okay. Okay. speaker-0: enemies to friends, paranormal lovers, created universes. But she also has like excellent non paranormal under the name Jessica Bird. can like check out all of her titles there. But yeah, so I recommend anybody if you're into this stuff and you're looking for a new author and you've not read JR Ward, but you are not used to reading like, like serious porn, will be a little, there is a lot of story. And I think that you'll really like it. speaker-1: I just really haven't found anything that I have really enjoyed enough to read. And also things are changing too. I'm listening to a lot more podcasts now. speaker-0: We have a whole podcast on the podcast we listen to. sure. I love it too. So listen, you and I have talked a lot about, we did an experience together, which we'll talk about next week. But we have talked a lot about the importance, focusing on positivity. speaker-1: My goodness. Yep. speaker-0: focusing on when everything feels like it's going to shit, it probably isn't. There's probably at least one piece of glitter somewhere that you can focus on and reach for. And the name of the podcast is High Five Hot Mess because life is a series of high fives and hot messes. we are specifically focused on trying to find those things, those like hunt for the high fives, right? So when you're on the hunt, for a person place experience that we are going to try, that we are going to share on the podcast so that you guys can either join in the fun or you guys can avoid it and save your money because it was not good. And this is the part that we're going to kind of talk about whether our high five or maybe hot mess experience, some place or thing. And one of us will share and the other one will kind of... join in and see what we think. And Lisa is going to share her story with us this week on what her hunt for the high five looks like. speaker-1: This is, this has been a journey. Okay. I, I've been having a, an issue for the last few years. ⁓ It's very, very common. I'm hearing, I thought it was just me and I thought I was dying, but my hair's falling out. Like in droves. I had double the hair that I have today a few years ago. And I think it's taken me a long time to figure out. Oh, and I still don't even know exactly how to 100 % correct it at this point. I have done so many things, talked to so many people, literally, you know, weeding out, is it a medical issue? Is it, you know, what is it? What is it? And I've come to find that a lot of people right now are saying it was stress related. Anytime your body goes through some kind of traumatic experience, know, some trauma, it's going to come out through your hair. Like a lot of things will come, like if your hair starts falling out, you know, it's kind of one of your ways that your body is telling you, like, you've to take some action on whatever it is, right? So we've kind of narrowed it down to probably why it's falling out. But now it's the search of making sure that it doesn't fall out anymore. Well, I've been to multiple doctors, clearly, you a few hairstylists getting their opinions, ⁓ dermatologist, because I mean, clearly that's, and I've been seeing a dermatologist for quite some time trying to figure this out. The treatments can be extremely expensive. You and I did an experience together to kind of, you know, take a shot at ⁓ a treatment that that absolutely could help and it's not only for hair loss, but my sweet aunt has a new of a lady in this town that I live in and she got me connected to her and basically saying, I mean, she really felt confident that she could help me. I didn't know what that meant, didn't know what that looked like. And so I met with her a couple of weeks ago and I was so impressed with her ability to just sit and listen and not jump to conclusions, not say, this is probably what it is. So here's some more medicine or whatever. Cause I feel like that's kind of been what it is. Or if one more person says, eat more protein, like I can't. Okay. No, did she tell me to eat more protein? Yeah. But that was not like her, that was not her, remedy. Right. She listened to me for about an hour and took a lot of notes, went and did her own homework, right? And I came back and we talked a lot about what our plan is. And so I'm really excited because I'm going to be starting this journey and I will definitely keep you up to date. I have an appointment coming up in next month where we're going to do some treatments. Did the... Yeah. mean, she basically was like, she was concerned that I was like still walking on this earth. speaker-0: tell her anything? speaker-1: My labs were like so crazy. So she said that she was like, I think I know exactly why your hair's falling out. XYZ, XYZ. And I was like, well, yeah. mean, that's... not new. of people tell me that, right? But it wasn't necessarily like, that's the only thing that we're going to focus on. Like we have to figure out how to fix it. And so it's really, ⁓ she put together a whole plan for me. Like, whole plan. speaker-0: Amazing. speaker-1: And we're going to start next. I mean, I've already started a few things, but we're going to start like treatments next month. So I'm really excited to see what. I know, A super high five, okay? Here's the thing, I've been, I've spoken to so many different people that I can't even count now. And some have been really nice and some have been awful to me. And I think when you are a woman too, okay, when men start losing, like if, you know, they start losing their hair, that's awful, it's terrible. It's, but they, a lot of times they can just shave their head, right? And that's not... speaker-0: So. Yeah. speaker-1: Like, I'm not there. I'm not there yet. But yeah, I mean, I think there's a lot of people that are going through it. I think a lot of people experience massive hair loss when you're on a GLP-1. That can happen, but that's not the only reason why you can lose your hair. You can lose your hair, like I said, a lot of ⁓ things. ⁓ But I'm learning a lot. I've made a lot of mistakes. I've tried a lot of crazy things that have not helped. speaker-0: That's the craziest thing you've tried that you're like, this is bonkers. speaker-1: ⁓ that day like I overdosed myself on rosemary oil, remember? speaker-0: But you gotta share the story now, because I got it out of you. speaker-1: Because I was just searching the wide, web for anything that could help, know, because I had been to doctors and all the things, a terrible dermatologist. I have a good one now. And I was just like, I have to do this. It's just going to have to be myself. I'm going to have to figure this out. So there's all these crazy remedies that... the internet can tell you to do. And there's all these like tinctures and tonics that you can, you know, put on your hair, whatever. ⁓ So there was like this ⁓ concoction and it was like rosemary oil and ⁓ castor oil. And I mean, it was a lot of stuff, okay? And I'm mixing it up. And I was kind of in a hurry. because it has to sit on your hair for a long time. And so I just kind of glanced down and I thought it said five droppers full of like rosemary oil and it was five drops. And the rosemary oil that I bought was one of these really big ones because I'm like, I'm going to use it a lot. I'm going to be making this stuff. So I'm going to buy like the really big bottle. So the dropper was like four inches. Right? I get that on my head with like the castor oil and all these other things. I start immediately feeling so sick because it just like seeped through my skin. just like literally gave it a gateway to my brain. I was like gonna pass out. I was like, what is going on? speaker-0: I remember it was like, I'm so sick. don't know what's wrong. feel like just like my stomach is a bit of ache. I don't feel it. And I'm like, and I did not know when you were telling me this, you had this tincture on your head. I was just like, ⁓ my God, is it the flu? Is it COVID? Like, what could it be? speaker-1: I've done a lot of dumb things. That was a really dumb one though. But there's a lot of things you can do. I don't know how different supplements I've taken. I've spent a lot of money. It's hard. speaker-0: share with people because everyone always thinks they have the cure. Right? So like, I think when you told me, I was like, ⁓ try Nutri-Fol because I did that and it worked for me. And I was like, ⁓ are you eating, are you eating or drinking collagen every day? Cause that worked for me. Like it's got to get old. You have been with this for years and everyone's coming at you with their like home remedy. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: is not like you've tried it done it been there and it has not worked. So I'm really proud of you for going and finding like exhausting every avenue so you Western medicine because I this person you're with is this person that you're currently working with and I want to hear all about them as on our journey together for this but because in my mind I've got this image that she's like this like you know goddess that you like bells and mist and you know. Yeah. I'm glad you have that advocate. Yeah. I feel like it's so important. speaker-1: think it's so easy for people to just automatically just say, here's a pill, go, it's gonna fix your problem. Well, guess what? It hasn't. And now it's been a few years and it's just gotten worse and it's emotional. Like I said, it can be emotional for men and it's really emotional for women. I mean, I never thought in a million years. that I would have to go through this. I mean, it's just when it's just coming out in clumps and you can't control it, it's crazy. But we also don't realize how stress can wreak such havoc on your body. yeah, so anyway, I'm on the journey. I'm going to fix it. I am going to figure it out. I really feel like I'm in good hands. Like I said, coupled on top of with a good dermatologist. and my new friend. ⁓ I'm starting this journey together, but I'm like obsessed. I'm obsessed because I feel like I have a hope and I can try something new that I haven't tried because I feel like I've tried everything. So. speaker-0: And I think hope is the most important thing, right? And I think that that is, there's a lot of power in hope. So I look forward to hearing all about it. I have a couple. So although yours was a high five, I'm going to share mine because I feel like, and again, I don't want to get all preachy here. Like this is not what... about, but I'm very honest that I've been on a weight loss journey since literally the fifth grade. Like my dad was so embarrassed at all the groceries he had to buy when I was a baby that he literally told the cashier that he had twins. He so much as a baby. Like, that was a true story. So, and I got my first Weight Watchers membership in the fifth grade. got my first gym membership in the fifth grade and I had literally been on a diet for 55 years. So adding into there, like, you know, I went to a nutritional psychologist. I had professional trainers. I had nutritionists. I had dieticians. I mean, you name it. I have tried it and- very similar to what you have been talking about. My hormones, I went into menopause and my hormones jacked, knifed me and I gained two weeks. And I'm like, I'm going to be on my 600 pound life in like a week or two if I don't get this under control. And there's nothing wrong with being overweight if you're comfortable with that, but it was in starting to impact my daily activities and what the things that I do, I couldn't do. And I called my sister-in-law crying and she's like, we will take care of you regardless of what happens, but you've got to figure out why this is happening. So I went to see, and again, I have active gym memberships. I track my food. mean, you name it guys, diet, you know what I'm talking about. And ⁓ it was still happening. So I went to my doctor and she had been kind of talking to me about GLPs for a long time and I wasn't speaker-1: No! Thank speaker-0: really into the idea of injecting a mystery fluid into my body. I was like, she's like, Lisa, we're at the point that if you don't, it's going to really start because I was like, my A1C was high, my cholesterol was high. So it wasn't like I was healthy big person. And then now that I wasn't going to be able to work out because again, anything I was trying to do, I was hurting myself because I was in such bad body. And I was like, the activities I want to do, what am going to do? Chair aerobics? That was all I was going to be able to do. And I was like, no, I am very active. I am an athlete and it was killing me. So we went on GLP and I lost 45 pounds in a year. Yeah, thanks. It was good stuff for me. And I have an eating disorder, it's called orthorexia. So I am hyper focused from... writing down everything I've eaten for 54 years since I could write, it gives you an unhealthy awareness of what you're eating and zero in on it. ⁓ And I knew the macros for anything at any moment. Like I could win trivia contests from a lifetime of trying to figure it out and learn it. I had to, ⁓ I have a thing about dieting now, right? Like I went through a lot and I just didn't want to diet anymore. I wanted to be able to just eat like a normal adult and eat regular food and not be so hyper fixated on what was in the food or where it was coming from or how much I was eating. I know I sound ridiculous to people who don't have eating disorders, who have not been hyper focused, but this is my life. I'm very comfortable talking about my weight and I understand that I'm overweight. get it. You guys aren't going to tell me anything I don't know, I'm also very, I think I have this empathy that a lot of people don't have for everyone telling you how you should do your life for weight because this or that works for them. So you've got to understand, I truly believe in my heart of hearts that what works for you doesn't work for me because we are not the same genetically built human beings. We're all different. And some of the things work, but it drives me crazy when people are like, oh, you just need to eat less and move more. And I'm like, I'm going to punch you in your crotch. it just, on for me, right? speaker-1: telling you that I walked every like three plus months, like a day, and I couldn't lose a pound. It was like I was literally gaining weight when I was working out more. was gaining more and it wasn't healthy muscle gain. I'm telling you. It was like, so I get it. Like not what works for everyone does not work. What works for one person doesn't work for everyone. speaker-0: Nope. sustainable, right? Like I've gained in law 50 to 60 pounds several times in my lifetime. So for me, was really when I was talking to with my GP, it was really about getting into a situation that was sustainable long term. If I need to put this mystery fluid in my body every day for the rest of my life, I will like whatever we got to do, but I just don't want it to be a fad. Like that for me was a big deal. my GP left. speaker-1: When you are dependent on the mystery fluid. speaker-0: When you Yes, that's You might have to go find a new dealer, right? There is something that has come out with Lillie Direct. So Lillie Direct, if you ask your doctor to use Lillie Direct, you can get name, brand, GLP, so I'm on ZetBound, instead of the compound version. And it is affordable for the first time ever. Like in my affordable and your affordable are different and that is fine. But for me, I was spending $600 a month on the compound and I thought that was astronomical. And for not to be losing weight and considering I was still dieting and eating like a normal human being, I was picked. Like that's a lot of money to spend every month. For me, it's a lot of money. So I was like, all right, I figured this out. So my doctor was trying to hook me up with the Lilly Direct, but it was at the beginning of the year. speaker-1: money. speaker-0: And I think because there was the surge of people trying to get access to GLPs, I've been all over the news, right? So it wasn't happening. So I was like, okay, look, I can't sustain the $600 a month. I don't have a doctor. I need to go to, you know, somewhere where I can get my, my GLPs and it's easy and it's not bankrupt me. So I found a wellness clinic. So if your red flags just shot up. speaker-1: wellness clinic that that deal glp one speaker-0: So almost all of the wellness clinics where I live have a GLP dealer. it depends on how bougie it is as to if it's a nurse practitioner that's doing it or if it is literally some dude in the back of a van. speaker-1: think they're supposed to be at least a nurse. speaker-0: I'm not gonna... speaker-1: I'm not sure but speaker-0: Yeah, I was like, when you lose weight without dieting, you will literally get in the back of a stranger's van and you're just like, whatever, bro, just hit it. I don't want to diet and I'm losing weight. Gimme, gimme, gimme. So I go to this clinic and I'm like, okay. And they're like, well, first you have to, you it was very bougie, right? Very nice, but clean. I was like, okay. And I'm like, you have to watch this video. And I was like, okay. So I watched this video. speaker-1: Thank you. speaker-0: And I'm so pissed off by the time it gets to the end of the video. Eventually the video was saying that you have to eat like 35 grams of carbs a day. So if you work out, like listen you guys, the macro kings and queens out there, like you guys do you and this is not me telling you what you should do. But 35 grams of carbs a day is nothing. Like if you work out, if you walk from here and we're on the block, like you're going to be exhausted. Correct. So like 35 calories and or 1300 calories a day, 35 carbs. was a restrictive eating plan. And what do we know about restrictive eating plan? They don't. speaker-1: It's like a salting cracker. work long term, right? Like you can see fast results and so people are, you know, hoopla, but... speaker-0: Correct. So the video room bummed me out and when it came in they were like, well, what did you think? And I was like, I think you guys are giving people eating disorders. And they're not used to seeing me, right? They don't know me. And I was like, this is some bullshit. And they were like, well, it worked for me. I lost 120 pounds. And I'm like, and you will gain it back when you start eating like a normal human being. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: this is not sustainable. think so. read a statistic a long time ago, but yeah, I it. It was like 97 % of Americans that lose weight gain it back. And the reason is, is they go back to old habits, right? So that's why I'm so anti-diet and I'm so anti-restrictive eating because nobody can do it forever. Yeah, 3 % of us do and God bless you for it. But the rest of us really are stuck in this shame cycle. So mine was not a high five. Mine was a mess of an experience. Do you agree with that? speaker-1: I mean, I would agree because first of all, I think what's confusing me is that they're giving you a GLP and then they're also telling you to basically starve yourself at the same time. that's counterproductive, right? And exercise because on a GLP, one, you're supposed to constantly eat, right? It's what you eat. It's putting that high protein yes. speaker-0: and exercise. speaker-1: But they're also not seeing 1,300 calories. I mean, I haven't seen that yet. So I'm kind of... speaker-0: We're not doctors, we're not gurus, we're not influencers. We just know how to use Co-Pilot like a pro. And we know how to read. Both of us have read a lot of articles and I've done all in my fitness pal is the app that I use and I absolutely love it. There is a GLP setting in there. Or at least you can change your macro so that if you want a certain percentage of your food to be protein, it's possible. also tracks your calories that you've been burning from your Fitbit or your device so it adjusts it, right? I love my fitness pal. The high five here is that there are lots of tools that can help me, the eating disorder risk is very high. Be very, very careful. ⁓ Don't let your kids go into these places by themselves for sure. ⁓ If you're somebody who is at risk of relapsing on an eating disorder, whatever. whatever type it was, bring an advocate with you, bring a friend with you so that they can kind of help you out. would speaker-1: Well, I mean, it's a really good point because, I mean, as we, you know, experience this ourselves and we can see like red flag, red flag, red flag, red flag, you made a comment about don't let your kids go in there by themselves. They're also seeing it online. They're seeing it on YouTube. They're seeing it. I mean, it's really kind of frightening of what people are putting out there sometimes and not knowing what... the teenagers are not maybe fact checking or they don't have enough experience to know who to ask, where to go. You know, there can be a lot of ⁓ misinformation out there, but... speaker-0: Absolutely. And remembering, I think it's the most important things were all different. How Lisa, how you're going to feel it and how I'm going to respond to it and how... I had another sister-in-law that did it and it didn't work at all. ⁓ She went to the maximum dose and never lost it. So it's not a cure-all and it's not a fix-all, but it is if you have an eating disorder, it is a high risk environment. So you need to be very careful and cautious about that and do what works for you. Do what works best for you. I'm on Zapbound now for the first time. I'll let you guys know about that journey. speaker-1: I want to hear about it because there is such a difference like semi-glutide, trisopatitis, like there's a big difference in how people react to it. So I'll be interested to see how you do. speaker-0: sure me too. So I think that you had a high five. So again, right? And I learned a lot. I mean, learned hopefully something I say gets to the right person and they don't, they pull back and don't listen to everything some strip mall person tells you. ⁓ I mean, are great people in strip malls, but you guys go. All right. So that speaker-1: I did. speaker-0: The next thing I want to kind of talk about is our board. speaker-1: the board, which we need to finish our board. I've been thinking a lot about our board. speaker-0: So what is the board for everyone who doesn't know what we're talking about? speaker-1: I think everybody knows what a vision board is, right? ⁓ And it's not necessarily about all the things that we desire in our life, but our board is more of that pursuit of blissfully happy and peace. Like what can we do to try to figure out how to get there, right? And it's not, it's going to be a marathon. It's not going to be a sprint, but we are definitely going to. be very intentional this year about doing the things that we think can help us achieve that. So on the board, we are putting down things that we want to try, things that we want to experience, things that we want to help us achieve those things. So, board for you. speaker-0: So what's on the So in my mind, I see the board in three phases. So there's like the $1 sign thing, which are, because again, I'm very frugal. ⁓ There's the $1 sign activities. like low to no cost experiences or activities that we want to try. So a good example would be a blowout. Like I love blowouts. Lisa had a blowout. So we might go try a blowout together and let you guys know. what we thought of it, ⁓ or a new type of pedicure, a new type of manicure, stuff like that. And then there's the $2 signs, which is, hey, this would be a fun experience. Maybe we can try it. one would be, we talked about going and getting a tarot card reading, going and getting, maybe seeing a psychic, right? Or like, hey, let's go to this new spa. because we the day there and experience it and see what we think. Or if you read about a certain treatment, you know, that sounds really cool. Like Lisa is in new treatment HQ where she lives. Like where she lives is literally a city of people who love getting pampered and trying new stuff. So she's always coming to me and be like, have you heard of this? Have you heard of that? That's going to be our middle of the place board. And then I really want us to have like our vision, like, If we ever get a sponsor or a GoFundMe, this is what we're going to do. And one of the things, I've always dreamed of going to South Korea and going to a skin lab. Right? you go in and they were like, okay, here's, you're very dehydrated. And then they yell at you for a little bit. And then they talk to you about how to fix this stuff right here. I don't want to do Botox or any of that. like what they would speaker-1: against that though. No, I'm not against that at all. speaker-0: Oh, for me, it's just not for me. But this is like back of a van. I'm in it. That would be like, like one of the things also I would love to get a matchmaker for Lisa and that is like $5,000 a pop. So that would be like, it's ridiculous, right? speaker-1: You were like, why don't we get a matchmaker? I'm like speaker-0: Girl, it's five grand entry level. I know all the things you don't know when you've been with the same person for a hundred years. So that is the idea of the board, right? So each week we're going to share with you guys an experience from the board. We're going to talk about if you guys have had that experience, share your experiences with us, or if you want us to try something, we're going to trust you with that. And we're going to put it on the board, right? So each week we're going to share that. Next week, we did go to a head spa. All about what that is next week during the experience portion. And we're going to talk about all the different things that we experienced when we did that and if you guys should or shouldn't do it and why and the price. mean, one of the things that Lisa and I are really serious about in our podcast this year is that we are very authentic about... the struggles and the strife and the highs and the lows and like when we wasted money, how pissed we get about it. When we don't have enough money to try something, we're going to have to wait, all that good stuff. the other thing that we really are hyper-focused on is making this collaborative. So we want you guys to chime in. We want to hear from you. In my mind, when Lisa was talking about her hair situation, I was like, someone is going to throw in, someone's going to hit our our DMs with have you tried this? you tried that? speaker-1: because I want to know what's worked for someone because again it could work for me. However, I don't want to discount anything. I don't want to discount and I don't think you do either, right? speaker-0: hear it all. want to hear all of it. So like one of the things that I wanted to do was I heard that you can hire a witch on TikTok. We're gonna do it. If we can't do it together, I'm gonna do it. Just for the experience of it. speaker-1: Okay, I did, What do you do with the witch? speaker-0: Okay, I will tell the story after this session when it's just me and you and then we can choose to share it as. Hey, I'm it. I have a story because it is a good story. Stay tuned, subscribe. I mean, wild like that, that is just comes up. New product or a new, right? Anything again, remember you guys, we're all just trying to like figure out. speaker-1: All right. speaker-0: how we can be blissfully happy, how do we find our peace, how do we find those high five moments in the day to day. And that's what the board is all about, is really kind of tracking our experiences as we go through these different things. If you're someone who does a service or you're somebody who owns a studio or a spa or a salon and you have something that you're like, you guys have to try this, like hit us up in the DMs, right? All that stuff. create an environment where we can learn from you guys and try all the cool stuff that you guys have. Because we're a little bit on the more mature side of life. Our group chat is more about like, do know where I can buy this ad bill the cheapest? ⁓ Not so much about, did you hear about hang gliding in Guatemala? Okay, so that's basically the episode. We're going to wrap it up here. the listener homework for this week. Please go to our socials. Lisa's going to copy and paste those into our show notes when we post the episode so you'll be able to find it. We also have a website at Hi5HotMess. You can sign up for our membership there. You can also just read what the podcast is about. And as we post episodes, it will be updated on our website so you guys can find us there. And then hopefully we're going to do a newsletter. So in that newsletter, we're going to talk about all the different things that we've tried, the things from the show. I'll put a picture of the board in there so you guys can, it's a literal board. don't know how to do a virtual board. don't know. do you guys think? I have an actual board with markers. mean, I'm ready. speaker-1: We're out of virtual. Hey! speaker-0: So with that, you guys, that is your homework. We're excited to hear all of the high five hunts that you guys are on and what you find. Might just be someone's giving away free skincare samples. We will show like a pigeon going after pizza. I will show free kit skincare samples for sure. So with that, guys, make sure you hydrate, unclench the jaw, roll the shoulders back, high five someone and have an amazing week. Bye.
