- 0:32Hi, everyone.
- 0:32Welcome back to the realtor who whines.
- 0:34I'm Rachelle Neumeyer, your realtor who signs.
- 0:37Today I'm joined by the most important person in my life, the love of my life, my daughter.
- 0:42I'm very excited to have her on the podcast today.
- 0:45Cheers to you Rylan. Thank you for being on.
- 0:51Okay, go ahead and put your glass down.
- 0:54We're drinking sparkling water so don't come for us in the comments, okay people, even though what we do like what Rylan calls kid wine and it's really just sparkling cider, but she loves it.
- 1:04Why don't you introduce yourself?
- 1:07My name is Rylan.
- 1:09I am nine years old currently but I'm about to be ten.
- 1:13My birthday's in like two weeks.
- 1:15It's next week. Yeah, basically. So yeah.
- 1:19I like to read.
- 1:20I play a lot of sports such as volleyball, basketball, softball, dance, such as hip hop and ballet.
- 1:32I have my own business called out of This World Creations.
- 1:37It's at first Friday's at Coldwell Banker.
- 1:41What is out of this world creations like what kind of business is that like I sell Julie NASA sell magnets that go on your refrigerator, but they're kind of different because they're made out of beads.
- 1:54Yeah.
- 1:55And you are at markets like you mentioned here in Newburgh at Coldwell Banker Professional Group.
- 2:00We participate in what's called First Fridays.
- 2:03And so the first Friday of every month, different artists and, entrepreneurs that don't have a storefront get to come in and set up at the different shops here in Newburgh.
- 2:13And so Rylan tends to set up there.
- 2:14But then you also do like sometimes like Love at Lavender Festival or other things like that.
- 2:19What made you want to start your own business?
- 2:23I wanted to make more money and I always have liked making bracelets and necklaces.
- 2:31So yeah, and you just wanted to share it with the people.
- 2:35You said you wanted to make more money.
- 2:36What are you trying to make money for?
- 2:38I want to make money for when I'm a grown up and I sometimes don't really spend it because I'm saving it for when I'm in college.
- 2:48Oh, you're saving money for college right now?
- 2:51Nice.
- 2:52Lucky mommy. Yeah.
- 2:54What kind of things have you learned?
- 2:57Having your own business?
- 2:58I have learned how to, like, be more better at, like, counting money, giving deals.
- 3:05And what do you mean by giving deals?
- 3:07Like, sometimes you're like, I want this bracelet and this bracelet, but I only want to pay, like $5 when the actual thing would be like $6.
- 3:21Sometimes they're.
- 3:23I just like, give them a deal.
- 3:25You negotiate with them.
- 3:27Sometimes because I think everyone should have the chance to have that stuff.
- 3:33Like okay if you buy one I'll let you get one for free.
- 3:37Yeah. You are very generous at your booth.
- 3:40What else have you learned.
- 3:42What about like how to greet customers or to talk to people?
- 3:46I would just, like, act like they're another friend of mine.
- 3:49I'd be like, hi, my name is Rylan.
- 3:52I'm selling this.
- 3:53This and this. Yeah.
- 3:56And you just pretend that they're there, that they are your friend.
- 3:59Yeah.
- 3:59Like I just pretend you make them feel comfortable a long time.
- 4:02Yeah.
- 4:03Do you think that's important when you're selling stuff to make people feel comfortable?
- 4:07It should be a very important because some people like, I just like I do want to pay for this, this, this, this, this.
- 4:16And then they'd be like, you know, provide good service.
- 4:20Yeah. You want people to. Hi.
- 4:22What do you like?
- 4:23Like what are you interested in?
- 4:26I have these things, but if here's one I have, like, a buy one get one thing.
- 4:33Yeah.
- 4:34You've done some custom orders too, for people.
- 4:37Like when they've had stuff, they're wanted things that you didn't have.
- 4:40But you like to put that customer first.
- 4:42Yeah.
- 4:43Like I normally just.
- 4:45And like, just call my mom and give her your order and I'll make it for you.
- 4:50And you should get it in, like, the first month or two, if it's a big order.
- 4:54Yeah. Depending on.
- 4:55We've had people order like bracelets for their whole business team before.
- 4:58So that's taken us all them.
- 5:00Yeah. Like one time.
- 5:02So my daughter like ten like bracelets and they're like, I shouldn't be that.
- 5:08I didn't have.
- 5:09And I was like, So we had day.
- 5:13Yeah.
- 5:13And we got them like we give it to them on the first two months because I had to make all ten.
- 5:19And like she said, she plays a lot of sports, so she's busy.
- 5:23So we had to make time for it.
- 5:24What would you tell another kid that's thinking about wanting to start a business and is like, nervous about it or thinks they can't do it because they're a kid?
- 5:33Anyone can do it because, like, all you need to be able to do is be able to make jewelry.
- 5:43Like, all you have to do is be able to draw like it's really easy.
- 5:47All you have to do is be able to make something and like, say hi, do you want this?
- 5:52In this I label my prices cause a lot of people like it better when you labels.
- 5:57Yeah, when you have it clear what your stuff cost.
- 6:00But like, what if they're like, I'm not good at art, but I want to start a business.
- 6:04What would you tell them?
- 6:06Well, you also could sell stuff that like you've had for a while, like a garage sale.
- 6:11Could sell old things like that.
- 6:14You might not be good at art but about they could start a business like doing like pet sitting or baby sitting at a time like, oh sorry. Like you also could have something, I don't know, I just forgot, like, what other kind of businesses could I could do.
- 6:32Oh yeah.
- 6:33I just got it like you could.
- 6:34Maybe if you're good at writing, you could, like, write some really small stories.
- 6:41Maybe you're really good at singing.
- 6:43Maybe you could sing songs.
- 6:46That pleases you. Yeah.
- 6:47There's, there's normally like one person who does music there.
- 6:52Yeah.
- 6:53What is something you would tell Grown-Ups that sometimes are shy or get in their own way when it comes to like helping clients.
- 7:04I would say just like think of them as one of your friends and then like, you kind of feel more comfortable if you just like, feel like you've known them for a long time.
- 7:16Yeah.
- 7:16Then it doesn't feel strange and then it feels like you're serving them instead of selling to them.
- 7:22Because I made my own business, I haven't had any employees or something, but I might be getting someone who can do.
- 7:30Cashier oh that's exciting.
- 7:33You're going to get your first employee.
- 7:34Maybe if they qualify.
- 7:36If they qualify, you're going to interview. Yes.
- 7:39And you're going to be interviewed.
- 7:41What kind of questions are you going to ask in this interview?
- 7:43Well, like of course you have to be able to know, like your money in mass to do stuff like, yeah, that's also like listed on there.
- 7:52But sometimes if you don't know your money, you don't know what to give them like kind of account change.
- 7:57And also if you're like, someone else like another kid in a business always paying extra money for you, do something.
- 8:09Oh. For change.
- 8:09Yeah. Like, test sometimes.
- 8:13Like someone's buying something like $12, but they'd give me a $20 bill and, like, okay.
- 8:18And and I have to give them the extra change.
- 8:21Yeah. For sure.
- 8:23How are you going to pay this employee.
- 8:26I'm going to give them $15 an hour.
- 8:29Wow. Money maker.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:33Well how did you come up with that amount.
- 8:35I was like some people do 20, some people do $10.
- 8:4115 I didn't know.
- 8:43How do you figure out then how many bracelets are you going to have to sell to be able to pay your employee?
- 8:49Probably like one payment would be like four bracelets if they were $3.
- 8:56Yeah, I am prepared. For what?
- 8:58If you don't sell any bracelets, you still got to pay your employee.
- 9:00I still have enough money.
- 9:03And also I said that only if you want to do this.
- 9:08She's, My employee is that I might get.
- 9:12Is like, one of my best friends.
- 9:15And she said she was going to get a job.
- 9:19I'm like, are you?
- 9:20She is like, yeah, I'm interested in getting a job.
- 9:23I'm like, well, I'm my own business.
- 9:25So you want to get interviewed on my birthday?
- 9:27Okay, she's coming to my birthday party and you want to get into it.
- 9:31She's like, shit, there you go.
- 9:34Oh my gosh I love it.
- 9:35Are there any other businesses or jobs that you want to do in the future?
- 9:40I there's like I might be a librarian part time.
- 9:45I might for sure I'm going to work at Disney when I'm in college part time.
- 9:51She wants to do the like internships that Disney does at during college.
- 9:56We just got back from Disney World.
- 9:57So Disney is fresh on the brain for sure.
- 10:01Just last night slash this morning at 12 we got home at 1230.
- 10:06Yeah.
- 10:07So speaking of that, a lot of times some people give mommy a hard time because of how busy you are and how busy I am and how we're always on the go.
- 10:16And sometimes people make comments like, for Rylan, you just take her around everywhere.
- 10:21Like you just drag that poor baby everywhere.
- 10:24No, that is not it.
- 10:26I actually have learned so much from it, from traveling and going to stuff.
- 10:31You get to learn like some different people have to like negotiate like talk with them to be like their friend.
- 10:40Like when I was like a like, I mean, seven, like, sometimes my mom would take me in, they would have kids.
- 10:47I'm like, okay, kids, whatever room.
- 10:50Like, what set out thing?
- 10:51Do you want to like showings?
- 10:53Yeah, I would like literally like, help them plan out the whole house.
- 10:57Just the kids, me and then the parents would be like, wait.
- 11:00And then, like, the kids would be like, mommy, I want this room, this one, this one, like the kids would be like that.
- 11:06And they said, I clean it and I want this, Larry, this.
- 11:09They're this they're.
- 11:10Yeah, they're claiming their rooms. Yeah.
- 11:12Rylan used to have to work a lot of open houses with me, especially during the pandemic because school was closed and daycare was closed.
- 11:19But real estate was still essential.
- 11:21So we would be at open houses and she would come with me.
- 11:24And when she's talking about it as well, I was talking to the parents.
- 11:27She really she just came up with this on her own.
- 11:29I had no influence on that.
- 11:31But she was like, let's play a game called Choose Your Room.
- 11:34And so she would have kids get really excited and choose a room, and then the parents would be like, man, our kids must really love this house because they haven't chosen rooms at any other house.
- 11:42So she actually helped myself quite a few houses because she got the kids excited.
- 11:48But then you've also gone to because mommy does like Women's Council Realtors and Women to Women network and like Tony Robbins and yeah, all that stuff.
- 11:57You've gone to a lot of conferences or like a keynotes ago like you and me went to a conference that like kids, I actually go to a lot of conferences.
- 12:08Kids are allowed to go because I'm a good kid.
- 12:11And like, I normally like quiet and like read or something during the whole time and help out, like set it up.
- 12:17They normally just let me go.
- 12:19Yeah, because you're quiet.
- 12:19But you also listen.
- 12:22So the conference that you're talking about is what was that one about?
- 12:25There is a money one like two months ago.
- 12:28And like it said, if you save your money correctly, you actually can make, like $1 million and, like a few years, it's like 30 years.
- 12:39But it was all about how if you invest early and how to teach our youth how to invest early so that they're planning, because a lot of us don't think about retirement or planning for the second half of our lives until we're approaching them.
- 12:55And so it was all about how to help set up your kids so they can easily buy houses when they're ready, or have at least$1 million in their retirement account.
- 13:03And if they start now, even putting like$30 a month away now at Rylan's age, she could have at least a million to maybe a million and a half by the time she's retiring.
- 13:15That like it's just sitting there and she could stop investing.
- 13:18The whole point was, if you started investing now, you could stop investing in like 15 years.
- 13:22And the way you invest it would just grow and grow and grow.
- 13:25But yeah, she likes to go do those kinds of things.
- 13:28Do you think it's important for kids to go do stuff like that, like learn about different things?
- 13:32I would say yes.
- 13:34Because you get to learn how to be like an entrepreneur at some of that stuff.
- 13:39You also get to learn how to, like, really spend your money, like how to keep it like, calm with your money and save up a lot.
- 13:48And you also get, like know like how real to like where it's like my mom sometimes like, you have an interest in a house, but then you find another house that you like better.
- 14:02So like, you close the thing that just happened to my mom twice while you're on vacation.
- 14:07So we did have two transactions terminate while we were on vacation.
- 14:11But it happens. That's part of the the part of the gig.
- 14:14It's a big it's a big purchase.
- 14:16Some people are allowed to, like, make a different decision, but also like you've learned about communicating, being at these different things, like how to have conversations, how to understand your feelings.
- 14:28Talk about that a little bit. Yeah.
- 14:30I also have learned like how to be friends with like people way older than you that don't normally be like, oh, this is a little kid.
- 14:40Like I don't care, right?
- 14:41Not interested.
- 14:43Yeah, but I actually I've made friends with a few teenagers I know most, like, my cousins are older kids, and, like, one of them is Wyatt.
- 14:55He's 14 right now, and he's not even my height.
- 14:58But he we're still, like, best friends.
- 15:01Yeah, because you know how to communicate with him.
- 15:05But also, does it help you like when you're feeling frustrated or overwhelmed? Yes.
- 15:09Because you've gone to a lot of these things where it's teaching grownups how to understand their emotions.
- 15:13Yeah, I feel like you're very emotionally mature because you've just been exposed to a lot of even when I was like six, like I did one, he popped in and I feel like I was in front of like 200 parents on a stage dancing.
- 15:27I was so nervous because it was like they said, it would be like the opposite of how we did it out.
- 15:34Our rehearsal and stuff, and we're like, oh my.
- 15:38But it turned it out to be okay.
- 15:41Yeah, some of us were like switching sports nonstop because we were in the wrong spot.
- 15:46Being flexible.
- 15:47What?
- 15:48Sometimes you have a hard time being flexible, like change one.
- 15:52Plans change. How do you get over that?
- 15:55I'm more I'm like you like a strict schedule.
- 15:59I know it's because I like to know what's going to happen, because then sometimes you would feel like, oh, if this is happening, it takes this long around, then you would probably have this much free time in your schedule.
- 16:13But then sometimes, you know, it changes.
- 16:16And I don't like that as much as sometimes that I have less freedom.
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:21What about how important do you think it is to have a good relationship with your parents?
- 16:26Now, that is very important, cause a lot of teenagers, they don't really hang out with their parents as much as they used to.
- 16:38Like.
- 16:38They're more like some teenagers are like, mom, get out of here.
- 16:43I'm going to the mall.
- 16:45They don't want you to come.
- 16:45I just want to be with my friends and me, my mom.
- 16:50I really connected, like my mom is one of my best friends.
- 16:54I had amazing time with her.
- 16:57I always have her back and she knows it.
- 16:59Definitely.
- 16:59She is my writer diet for sure.
- 17:03But you're also really close with your dad mom and that's important too.
- 17:07And I stepbrother him.
- 17:09You're pretty close, close relationships and then being there for each other.
- 17:14And you do make comments sometimes that you hope that we're always close.
- 17:19But one way that you think that we can always stay close, even as you're becoming, a teen and then a grown up.
- 17:25Definitely think I would love to go shopping with you when I'm older, like I have already.
- 17:30And like, we already like going shopping.
- 17:32It just.
- 17:33I don't always like going shopping as long as my mom right now, but she's an in and out kind of girl.
- 17:40And then what?
- 17:40What do you need? And then leave?
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:43Unless I see something like crazy cute, then I'm like, I need this.
- 17:47And then I like, I would like, try to get it and leave.
- 17:50Otherwise I'd be like, let's get out of here.
- 17:53I want to go watch TV and relax. Yeah.
- 17:56What is, something that you look forward to about becoming, like, a teenager or a grown up?
- 18:02I look forward to being able to, like, text my friends more. Yes.
- 18:08We're not.
- 18:09I don't have a cell phone.
- 18:09I not allowed that.
- 18:12I'm okay with it because I get I have a tablet and I have a watch that I can text.
- 18:17Actually, I have it on it now, see them and I can text people like, I can text my mom, I can text my dad, I can text my grandparents like it's really good.
- 18:31I even can text my mom.
- 18:32One of my mom's best friends.
- 18:34Her name is Tina.
- 18:36Yeah.
- 18:39But so yeah that's the only thing I know all the things you can do when you're a grown up and a teenager, it's texting.
- 18:46No it's more like I probably want to say later behind my friends more and I probably want to like go to spend my more.
- 18:57I'd spend my money more.
- 18:59Yeah. Probably.
- 19:00So yeah.
- 19:01Back drive and drive, drive, drive.
- 19:04Yeah, yeah, driving is pretty cool.
- 19:07But what do you need to have to be a good driver.
- 19:11Let me talk about this every day.
- 19:14You have to watch your surroundings, which I'm still learning a little bit now.
- 19:19I'm, like, really good at watching other people.
- 19:22Sometimes I don't watch for, like.
- 19:24It's really important when you're driving, for sure.
- 19:26Oh, for sure.
- 19:27People all the time.
- 19:28Yeah, but I don't really watch for like the post things like sometimes, sometimes they walk in their things.
- 19:37Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 19:38Like there's things that support like a building.
- 19:42Sometimes I walk into those pillars.
- 19:44I'm not like paying attention. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:47Now I actually read the signs on the road to like, tell when, how close we are to, like, the airport and stuff.
- 19:52Yeah.
- 19:54You're so funny.
- 19:55And speaking of money, we were talking about money just a second ago.
- 19:59And you mentioned about having money.
- 20:01What about giving back?
- 20:03You like to volunteer like mommy does and you like to give back talk.
- 20:07If there's any kids listening about the importance of, like, giving back and volunteering, it is very important because some people can't afford as much.
- 20:18And if you can, you are very, very lucky.
- 20:21Like me, my mom, I'm very lucky.
- 20:24We're very grateful for what we have.
- 20:26Yeah.
- 20:29But like, what have you learned about.
- 20:32We've gone before and like, filled backpacks for students that need school supplies or we've donated things.
- 20:39We've worked at shelters, like what have you learned by doing some of that stuff?
- 20:43It is important to give what people can't get because they weren't as lucky right now in life.
- 20:51Yeah, well, it's just a kind thing to do.
- 20:53And how does that make you feel when you get to help?
- 20:56It feels good.
- 20:57Good.
- 20:57Like, it doesn't even matter if they're not as good as a kid.
- 21:03Well, they're just having a hard time because they have a hard time.
- 21:07They probably don't have as much like they probably don't have as many blankets as we do, as many stuffies, as many toys.
- 21:17So I donate toys, books, school supplies because they send you home with all your school supplies at my school.
- 21:25So sometimes we give away the old stuff and new stuff.
- 21:30And then also sometimes I just donating our time.
- 21:32Like, sometimes people are just lonely and want more friends.
- 21:35Like, we've gone to the children's hospital and hung out.
- 21:39We've gone to senior centers and hung out.
- 21:41Yes, we have, the seniors love your crazy curly hair.
- 21:45They all call you.
- 21:46Who do they compare you to all the time?
- 21:46Do you remember her name?
- 21:49No. Shirley Temple.
- 21:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:52And, but it feels good to make people feel important and seen, don't you think?
- 21:57It is?
- 21:58It feels way better than, like, other stuff.
- 22:02Like, sometimes, like you're just having a good time, but, like, there's a spark in you that, like, just like, turns on when you help someone.
- 22:13Yeah. Freshmen feel amazing.
- 22:15Especially when you see how much it means to them. Yes.
- 22:19Like one time, my mom's boyfriend, like, was visiting his family and one of his, like, his mom or like friend, his grandma was.
- 22:31And grandma was senior home.
- 22:32Yes, in a senior home.
- 22:34And like some of the other people were like, can I have a hug?
- 22:38And I'm like, sure, on whatever.
- 22:40People broke into tears.
- 22:42Yeah, because she said she hasn't got to hug a young person in such a long time.
- 22:47And she just appreciated you talking to her and giving her your time.
- 22:52Yeah, and she was.
- 22:53And it was only like two minutes.
- 22:54I'm like, but that's, that's sometimes that's all that counts as like just giving people a little bit of time to feel important and seen.
- 23:03Some people just feel forgotten.
- 23:04So it's nice to just make someone feel noticed, like, hey, you matter, right? Yes.
- 23:11And a long time ago, like, we got some really bad ice on, like the roads, so you couldn't really go anywhere.
- 23:19So like, I would start watching YouTube and I found, like, a few families, like, just like being really kind or, like, doing some really fun stuff.
- 23:29Like the ninja family, like they called them the ninja kids.
- 23:34A lot of people was and they were doing generous things too. Yes.
- 23:39They have also open like a few ninja obstacle course places.
- 23:45They had, like if they picked 100 kids to go to a thing to like be a new person, they, have donated money.
- 23:59But you've talked about that, like someday when you grow up, if when you shoot some.
- 24:04Sometimes she wants to be a part time librarian, but she always wants to be a CEO or a business person, and she wants to be able to give back.
- 24:11Yeah.
- 24:11Because right now that's like, all I know.
- 24:14Like being a CEO. Like being a realtor.
- 24:17Yeah.
- 24:18My whole life right now.
- 24:19Like, I just know that part. Yeah.
- 24:23Being a librarian at the end of the year, it would suck because you have to scan every single book in the library if you have any.
- 24:30Yes, a school library or any like, books like are gone.
- 24:36I would hate that part.
- 24:38When you're librarian at school is one of your favorite people.
- 24:41I know because she is really nice to me.
- 24:44She is nice to a lot of other people.
- 24:46They have a really hard job.
- 24:48I feel like they don't get enough credit for their jobs.
- 24:51Yeah, yeah, they have to take care of every person in the school.
- 24:55Kind of like someone at Stem.
- 24:57There a lot of schools to stand, but it's so cool.
- 25:01My school does it Stem.
- 25:03You get to learn how to be an engineer.
- 25:06It's math science. Like it's really fun.
- 25:09Yeah, well, I really appreciate you being on the show today.
- 25:12Is there anything else you want to share with anybody before we wrap up?
