- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm sean to wear just us again.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And there's a lot to talk about too. I mean,
- 0:12Speaker 1: last week, you know we talked. The first segment was
- 0:15Speaker 1: about Apple and their big announcements, and now we're seeing
- 0:18Speaker 1: more and more news coming out about Apple and some
- 0:22Speaker 1: of the things. I just went ahead and upgraded my
- 0:24Speaker 1: iPhone fourteen to the latest eighteen. But I noticed down
- 0:29Speaker 1: below it said iOS twenty six now available.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I think it came out two days ago. Hey, iOS
- 0:33Speaker 2: twenty six is available. I was like, oh, it's not
- 0:35Speaker 2: a beta version anymore. Let's go.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It's the full Now you've been using the beta version
- 0:39Speaker 1: for iOS twenty six for how long?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Two months at least? Yeah, as soon as it was
- 0:43Speaker 2: available when they announced it, I downloaded it that day.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I didn't hate it. It's been working so good for
- 0:49Speaker 2: what it is, and you know, the liquid glass and
- 0:51Speaker 2: the animation style and stuff, and I've got in and
- 0:53Speaker 2: and tweaked some of the settings to my liking, and
- 0:56Speaker 2: I think it gave me an advantage against people who
- 0:59Speaker 2: just got it, because now I'm hearing the same complaints
- 1:01Speaker 2: about certain features that I had during the beta, and
- 1:05Speaker 2: you know, and I was like, oh, yeah, just do
- 1:06Speaker 2: this or do this.
- 1:07Speaker 1: If I went ahead and did it all right, and again,
- 1:10Speaker 1: remember I've been an Android user for about a year.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I've just come back to Apple and it looks the
- 1:14Speaker 1: same as when I left it. What would be the
- 1:17Speaker 1: biggest adjustment for me going to iOS twenty six if
- 1:21Speaker 1: I go ahead and do that.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So, I mean, you're familiar at least with iOS. The
- 1:25Speaker 2: biggest thing if I had to sum it up in
- 1:27Speaker 2: like one easy to define phrase, this OS is designed
- 1:32Speaker 2: for two handed operations, really, so a lot of the
- 1:35Speaker 2: menu functions, a lot of the search functions, a lot
- 1:37Speaker 2: of the x's, a lot of the it's been designed normally.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I held I used to hold my phone with one
- 1:43Speaker 2: hand a lot, and I can reach you know, mostly
- 1:45Speaker 2: right handed. I could reach up and hit the XS
- 1:47Speaker 2: with my thumb or whatever, you know, if it was
- 1:49Speaker 2: at the top of the menu. Now a lot of
- 1:51Speaker 2: the UI experience has been moved to the bottom of
- 1:54Speaker 2: the phone. The exes are at the bottom right, creating
- 1:57Speaker 2: new messages as the bottom right. So a lot of
- 2:00Speaker 2: a lot of key features that normally would be at
- 2:02Speaker 2: the top right are now at the bottom right. The
- 2:04Speaker 2: search has been moved to the bottom there. It seems,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean a lot more people are using the phones,
- 2:10Speaker 2: like just on a day to day basis, millions and
- 2:12Speaker 2: millions and gazillions of people are using their phones for everything.
- 2:15Speaker 2: How do you hold it? I can type relatively coick
- 2:17Speaker 2: with one thumb, but if you put two hands on it,
- 2:19Speaker 2: now I can type really fast with two thumbs. It's
- 2:21Speaker 2: almost going back to the types of phones where you've
- 2:25Speaker 2: used it, where you've just had the keyboard, right original blackberries.
- 2:29Speaker 2: It's like you always want the keyboard there because you're
- 2:31Speaker 2: always typing. But you can go away, you can swipe up.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Still could do it one handed, still type one handed
- 2:36Speaker 2: and stuff. But now I'm finding myself having to remember
- 2:39Speaker 2: muscle memory. Okay, to start a new message, I have
- 2:42Speaker 2: to go to the bottom right, so to the top left.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So if I'm holding one handed and I try and
- 2:46Speaker 2: go up to the top or I try to go over.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So it's just relearning muscle memory things. So I think
- 2:52Speaker 2: from a fundamental design that's the easiest way I can
- 2:55Speaker 2: sum it up is it's been designed for two handed operation,
- 2:59Speaker 2: like you're gonna be ho ho you, I'll holding you
- 3:01Speaker 2: out to it a lot more to hands.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Right right now. Some people, I know Sean, they'll they'll
- 3:06Speaker 1: put their phone in, you know, in a mount or
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know, I've got a mount here in the studio.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's mounted in front of me. And then it's just
- 3:13Speaker 1: a matter of you know, picking what I want to
- 3:15Speaker 1: do that that can still work for somebody, I mean,
- 3:18Speaker 1: if they want to.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah. And I think something that I use quite a
- 3:20Speaker 2: bit is if my phone's laying down and I want
- 3:23Speaker 2: to respond to a message, I'll do the swipe texting.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, when you start with one.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Letter, you just swipe around and say like, hey Caitlin,
- 3:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna be homewaight for work. And you can just
- 3:33Speaker 2: do it that fast like and you can miss. You
- 3:35Speaker 2: don't have to be precise. It knows where you're trying
- 3:38Speaker 2: to go based on like your speed and stuff. And
- 3:40Speaker 2: I can do that relatively fast. I do that quite
- 3:42Speaker 2: a bit. If it's I see a message on my phone,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I just go hit it, you know, you you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: just swipe on my phone instead of typing each letter.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Well, one of the things though that I want to
- 3:50Speaker 1: see Sean is and again, you know, I've been really
- 3:55Speaker 1: relying on the pixel and I I wasn't sure I
- 3:59Speaker 1: was going to really like the you know, the the
- 4:02Speaker 1: Gemini feature on it and you know, the AI feature,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and I do. I love it. I love especially for
- 4:09Speaker 1: me in the studio if I'm playing a song by
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know, the group Chicago and I want to find
- 4:13Speaker 1: out when did you know make me smile? Come out? Uh,
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's so easy because I don't have to type it.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I could be doing other things, ask and it will
- 4:21Speaker 1: put that information right there for me, which is great.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Siri just hasn't been able to do that, and I've
- 4:27Speaker 1: I tried the other day. Let let's see and I
- 4:30Speaker 1: was like, that's so disappointing.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, I mentioned it when we talked about it
- 4:35Speaker 2: right after the announcements aired. The only AI announcement they
- 4:38Speaker 2: made for the iPhone event was for the air Pod pros.
- 4:45Speaker 2: The only A announcement there hasn't been anything since.
- 4:47Speaker 1: If they do integrate, and they were talking about this,
- 4:49Speaker 1: we talked about mentioned this last week too. You know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: if they do integreat Gemini, which there there has been talk.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't know if that's been squashed yet, but if
- 4:57Speaker 1: they do integrate that into the Apple interface, that would
- 5:00Speaker 1: be great. I think that make people happy. I mean,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you could do with third party cht GPT, you could,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you know, add that app or any of the other
- 5:08Speaker 1: AI companies, you could add that as an app and
- 5:10Speaker 1: do the same thing basically. But I like the responsive
- 5:13Speaker 1: time and everything that I've been getting with Jim, and
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think that's been that's been working good.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I just don't know how I I mean, I'm still
- 5:20Speaker 2: on the fence about AI in general. I've kind of
- 5:23Speaker 2: always been the naysayer about AI. I do find it's
- 5:25Speaker 2: useful for certain things, right, I don't like that it's
- 5:29Speaker 2: literally in everything, and I get nervous about that it's
- 5:32Speaker 2: going to be a toys going forward.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's scary, and you know, it's so easy to
- 5:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's it's interesting seeing younger generations, especially because they work
- 5:43Speaker 2: at university, seeing how other students are dealing with AI
- 5:48Speaker 2: and what they're thinking about. And now you're starting to
- 5:50Speaker 2: see trends with teachers having people physically write their essays
- 5:54Speaker 2: and physically right there because they can't. You know, it's
- 5:57Speaker 2: like you have to prove to me that you didn't
- 5:59Speaker 2: do AI. How do you do that? Write it?
- 6:01Speaker 1: Well, there's I think there's two types of UH. And
- 6:03Speaker 1: I've talked to a teacher about this too. There's two
- 6:06Speaker 1: types of students. Ones that are going to allow the
- 6:09Speaker 1: AI to do the whole article and those that are
- 6:13Speaker 1: a little sharper than that, that will use it to
- 6:16Speaker 1: create kind of a flow, a flow chart of it,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but then go in and add what you know, add
- 6:22Speaker 1: what they've learned, edit it, make it, make it their own.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And I think it's the same way with business too,
- 6:28Speaker 1: that that's gonna work the best if you see it.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I mean I've seen posts online where I just go
- 6:33Speaker 1: that's AI. And I've seen written text online, whether it
- 6:37Speaker 1: be a post on Instagram or Facebook, that's AI. When
- 6:42Speaker 1: somebody takes the time to use use it to get
- 6:45Speaker 1: the info they need to put together something, then yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: that works out good.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I don't haven't done a whole lot of image generating
- 6:52Speaker 2: with AI. It maybe a couple like here's a random
- 6:56Speaker 2: troll from my D and D game or something and
- 6:58Speaker 2: I but I haven't really had it generate anything for me.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So yeah, Amanda reached out. We were talking Amandu, who
- 7:06Speaker 1: is a yeah, but on the show for a while
- 7:08Speaker 1: because she's been so so ingrained in education and what
- 7:11Speaker 1: she's doing there. But we were talking the other day
- 7:14Speaker 1: about Sorrows and that she was trying to create, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: a creature for her class, and so I was trying
- 7:21Speaker 1: Sorrows to create. None of it looked really great to me,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know, it just just didn't have that feel. I
- 7:28Speaker 1: did a news segment that ran this past week, which
- 7:32Speaker 1: is good because we were talking about Riverside FM, which
- 7:35Speaker 1: we use for producing the show. There are some great
- 7:37Speaker 1: AI features in that as well. And I had to
- 7:41Speaker 1: create a shot where some people were sitting around a
- 7:44Speaker 1: table doing a podcast because I didn't have video of
- 7:46Speaker 1: us doing it. So I figured, okay, let's do that.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But it's so crazy because as soon as you cut
- 7:52Speaker 1: to any text that's on the screen, you look at
- 7:55Speaker 1: it and go, what word is that? It's like it
- 7:58Speaker 1: just it can't get it all all together, at least
- 8:01Speaker 1: in the short amount of time that we want it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So that's kind of the downside with this these AI features.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But we're looking for them more, I think in our
- 8:10Speaker 1: personal advices.
- 8:11Speaker 2: This is the new generations dot com bubble AI is
- 8:14Speaker 2: going to be everywhere for and then it's just going
- 8:17Speaker 2: to just disappear, right and it's gonna be crazy. I
- 8:22Speaker 2: don't know what it's what effect it's going to have
- 8:24Speaker 2: on jobs and that kind of stuff, But it's not
- 8:27Speaker 2: going away for one, we know that. But I think
- 8:31Speaker 2: the number of companies that are just solely banking on
- 8:34Speaker 2: AI taking over the majority of their workforce is a
- 8:36Speaker 2: bad play, and it's going All it takes is like
- 8:40Speaker 2: a major Amazon outage or a major JGPT outage, and
- 8:45Speaker 2: those companies are going to be screwed for an unknown
- 8:47Speaker 2: amount of time. And if you hire somebody that's a
- 8:50Speaker 2: vibe coder that just learned how to code with AI
- 8:53Speaker 2: and groc or whatever, you know, whatever, and then you
- 8:55Speaker 2: come up against a serious problem that it can't solve
- 8:58Speaker 2: or you need back end development and help, you're going
- 9:01Speaker 2: to be paying a premium for somebody to come in
- 9:03Speaker 2: to clean up a mess that somebody created sloppily with AI.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I mean, that's there's a reason they called AI slop.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You're seeing a lot of professional, long long career codeers
- 9:14Speaker 2: looking at stuff and going, yeah, it works, but there's
- 9:18Speaker 2: no support if anything goes wrong. There's no back end,
- 9:21Speaker 2: there's no redundancy.
- 9:22Speaker 1: There have been people that have said, I've been using
- 9:25Speaker 1: Codex to do my coding. I've been using you know,
- 9:29Speaker 1: the AI features to help me with writing code. The
- 9:32Speaker 1: thing is we can't. I don't think it's at that
- 9:34Speaker 1: point and I don't know if it'll get to that
- 9:36Speaker 1: point where we can't jump in one hundred percent and
- 9:38Speaker 1: say just do this for me, because it's it's just
- 9:41Speaker 1: like anything on the net. You can watch a video
- 9:44Speaker 1: on YouTube. It may not apply to you and what
- 9:46Speaker 1: you're trying to do. You have to have an open
- 9:50Speaker 1: mind by going and looking at it and going, hm,
- 9:53Speaker 1: is there a different way if we become too reliant
- 9:55Speaker 1: on it, that could end up hurting us in the
- 9:57Speaker 1: long run.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yeah. And I had a coworker that said it pretty
- 10:01Speaker 2: well straight up. He said, until it can get to
- 10:04Speaker 2: one hundred percent accuracy, it's never going to be everywhere
- 10:07Speaker 2: seeing what they're eighty percent accurate, eighty five percent accurate.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And he looked, you know, he's a graphics operator for
- 10:15Speaker 2: what we do for sports. He's like, if I'm eighty
- 10:17Speaker 2: percent accurate in my stats, I'm gonna get fired. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 2: I'm losing my job if I miss twenty percent of
- 10:25Speaker 2: my graphics that go to.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Air and they're wrong misspelled, Yeah, misspelled.
- 10:30Speaker 2: That's I'm fired. I'm done. He's like, so, how can
- 10:34Speaker 2: we rely on that to be for something so critical?
- 10:38Speaker 2: We're try and rely on AI to do it and
- 10:40Speaker 2: generate you know, generate graphics and stuff like that. It's like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: this just won't happen. There are certain jobs that it
- 10:46Speaker 2: just can't do be due to the critical level of accuracy.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Are there companies that are better at it? Sean, I
- 10:55Speaker 1: mean when you look at I mean, I know you
- 10:57Speaker 1: don't really use AI too much, but like there are
- 11:01Speaker 1: some Like I use Voice AI for a long time
- 11:03Speaker 1: just you know, played around with it, created contests with it,
- 11:06Speaker 1: had some fun with it, and honestly, it's like, eh,
- 11:10Speaker 1: but then I recently tried eleven Labs and I was
- 11:14Speaker 1: totally I typed. So eleven Labs has it. So if
- 11:17Speaker 1: you wanted to create a commercial, or you wanted to
- 11:20Speaker 1: create something for the show or whatever, you could type
- 11:24Speaker 1: it in. The problem is the AI does not understand
- 11:28Speaker 1: your inflection. So it's like imagine talking to C THREEBO
- 11:31Speaker 1: C THREEBO is gonna just spit it back out as
- 11:34Speaker 1: whatever you're putting in there. But it does have a
- 11:37Speaker 1: feature where I can talk on a microphone and I
- 11:40Speaker 1: can say things, and I can, you know, change my
- 11:43Speaker 1: inflection and the AI will pick that up and if
- 11:46Speaker 1: you're replacing it with a different voice or a different style,
- 11:51Speaker 1: it will understand that. So, I mean there are some
- 11:54Speaker 1: company I think that are better at that than others.
- 11:57Speaker 1: There are some video companies now, so you could put
- 12:00Speaker 1: in You pick which AI character you want, and I
- 12:02Speaker 1: don't know if people know this. You pick which AI person,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you give the script or you actually say what it is,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and they will basically have a person that's supposed to
- 12:12Speaker 1: be you then pitching a product. I saw one the
- 12:15Speaker 1: other day, though they obviously typed it in because when
- 12:19Speaker 1: it came to that AI model saying seven times the
- 12:24Speaker 1: growth factor, it said seven x the growth factor because
- 12:28Speaker 1: it doesn't know that supposed to represent seven times, so
- 12:32Speaker 1: and they never fixed it. I didn't understand that we're
- 12:34Speaker 1: all feeding it.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It's growing every day. It's going to grow into this
- 12:38Speaker 2: huge amalgamation that nobody knows what it's going to look like.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And from my experience right I've only really used jat
- 12:46Speaker 2: YOUBT because it's provided to be by the university and
- 12:51Speaker 2: Amazon Q to do a little bit of coding'll be
- 12:55Speaker 2: very very minimal, like take this file and rename it.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Or you know, I did use it to organize a
- 13:02Speaker 2: bunch of photos, right, It's like, take all these photos
- 13:05Speaker 2: and put them in you know, I scanned them in
- 13:07Speaker 2: by year, put them in folders by year and all
- 13:10Speaker 2: this stuff, and it did a really good job. But
- 13:12Speaker 2: that's about all I've used it for, and I use
- 13:14Speaker 2: it really to The thing I use it for the
- 13:18Speaker 2: most is to search user manuals like this, this is
- 13:23Speaker 2: the product that I have. This is what I'm trying
- 13:25Speaker 2: to find. Please find me the manual and show me
- 13:28Speaker 2: where it is in the manual, and it'll give show
- 13:30Speaker 2: me where the PDF is. I can download, it'll highlight
- 13:32Speaker 2: it for me and the in the PDF, and I
- 13:34Speaker 2: can get to where I need to be relatively quickly,
- 13:36Speaker 2: even if it'll have the manual available to me.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Is this going out onto the web and looking for
- 13:40Speaker 1: it or do you put input a set both so
- 13:44Speaker 1: you can do that too.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, So I could upload the PDF and say here's
- 13:48Speaker 2: the pdf. Please scan through it and tell me everything
- 13:52Speaker 2: that's related to serial port, Comport nine or something whatever,
- 13:56Speaker 2: whatever the variable is that I wanted to search for.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But there's just so many times where it's like it's
- 14:03Speaker 2: if I'm trying to it's really bad at if I'm
- 14:06Speaker 2: trying to build ross Constom controls for our video switcher,
- 14:10Speaker 2: it's really bad and inaccurate quite a bit. So I've
- 14:15Speaker 2: just found myself just saying, show me the manual and
- 14:17Speaker 2: show me where the key commands are, and I'll build
- 14:19Speaker 2: it myself because it's really bad, really awful at building
- 14:22Speaker 2: those and it's ninety percent inaccurate. So there are a
- 14:27Speaker 2: lot of things where I'm trying to use it just
- 14:30Speaker 2: to see what it can do. But again, mostly it's
- 14:33Speaker 2: just for small level coding products that that I'm doing
- 14:37Speaker 2: for personal stuff that it would take me months to
- 14:40Speaker 2: figure out on my own, but it can just spit
- 14:41Speaker 2: out a basic folder renaming script for me relatively quick.
- 14:46Speaker 1: There is a program that's out there, it's called cap cut,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and people who use you know, social media like TikTok
- 14:54Speaker 1: or some of the others that are out there, they
- 14:57Speaker 1: do some pretty amazing things. A lot of it's visual
- 15:01Speaker 1: just oh it's nice. I I can do this. You know.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's kind of like when uh, if you remember when
- 15:07Speaker 1: it was, was it Premier? Did Premiere have a version
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the Adobe. Premiere have a
- 15:12Speaker 1: version the average person could use for creating things in editing,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and it was fun. I'm pretty sure that did I
- 15:19Speaker 1: know they had like a photoshop light or whatever, you
- 15:22Speaker 1: know that you could use. But with this, you can
- 15:26Speaker 1: take a set number of photos with cap cut and
- 15:29Speaker 1: you could upload them and it'll create a musical scene. Now,
- 15:32Speaker 1: if you pay for cap cut, you can get a
- 15:34Speaker 1: longer scene. You can do more stuff. People are doing
- 15:37Speaker 1: some neat things. One of those features is, uh, it
- 15:40Speaker 1: took the photo and and we've talked about this before,
- 15:45Speaker 1: that Uncanny Valley, right, and my sister in law had
- 15:50Speaker 1: posted a photo of h Gloria's mom and dad, who
- 15:54Speaker 1: were both no longer with us, But she had taken
- 15:57Speaker 1: the photo of she had taken like a scream land
- 16:01Speaker 1: of screenshop, but taking a picture with a camera of
- 16:04Speaker 1: a photo that was on the wall. She don't have
- 16:07Speaker 1: a scanner, and so you get the flash at the
- 16:09Speaker 1: bottom left of that, you know, reflecting off the glass.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I put it into one of the the AI programs
- 16:19Speaker 1: and I had to fix it and it did it.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I put it in the Google Photos and I had
- 16:24Speaker 1: the AI there go ahead and fix it. And was like, cool,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and you got this great looking photo. Now it's all
- 16:29Speaker 1: cleaned up. And I put it into cap cut and
- 16:33Speaker 1: it can animate them. And I did it, and then
- 16:37Speaker 1: I had this regret because here's this thing that looks
- 16:42Speaker 1: really cool to me. But if I show it to
- 16:45Speaker 1: my wife, this is her mom and dad.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we've talked about this before, right, I think even
- 16:51Speaker 2: like four years ago, three years ago, you were like, hey,
- 16:54Speaker 2: I found this really great website. If I upload a
- 16:56Speaker 2: video of or at this picture of my grandpa, it'll
- 16:59Speaker 2: animate it. You showed it to us and I was like,
- 17:01Speaker 2: that's weird.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's weird, and it can it can
- 17:05Speaker 1: be painful.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's it's not how people. It's it's a
- 17:11Speaker 2: weird sensation to see and hear somebody that you know,
- 17:17Speaker 2: and no, it's not real.
- 17:19Speaker 1: They're even doing the voices. Now, Yeah, that's weird. You know.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I have I think I have maybe two minutes of
- 17:25Speaker 1: my dad talking, who sounded a lot like Michael Caine.
- 17:28Speaker 1: So I like my I always like Michael Caine movies,
- 17:31Speaker 1: who is coming out of retirement, which I can't believe
- 17:34Speaker 1: he's going to be doing a movie. But and it
- 17:37Speaker 1: was the same thing. I wanted to do that, but
- 17:39Speaker 1: I realized, do I really want to do that? You know?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Is do we really want to go there? Suddenly seeing
- 17:46Speaker 1: these people that look at that and it's a moment
- 17:49Speaker 1: that never existed, created from a moment that did.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think a lot of the AI is
- 17:54Speaker 2: just is just thrust upon the content creation world because
- 17:57Speaker 2: it's easier to create more content. And that's what it
- 18:00Speaker 2: takes to be the top of the top in the
- 18:02Speaker 2: content creational world. Is you're creating content every day, and
- 18:07Speaker 2: that takes a lot of work to do quality content.
- 18:09Speaker 2: If you're doing it by yourself or you're doing it
- 18:11Speaker 2: with a small team, it's a lot of a lot
- 18:13Speaker 2: of work. And if you could just do it by AI.
- 18:18Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean we're using some stuff, some of
- 18:21Speaker 2: that AI stuff for this show. And because it's a
- 18:24Speaker 2: four person thing and you're doing all the editing, you're
- 18:26Speaker 2: doing it. But it's like I I'm hard pressed outside
- 18:31Speaker 2: if I did something like it like this, I would
- 18:33Speaker 2: use it for this because it makes sense, but for
- 18:36Speaker 2: like anything I'm doing with my videos, my time lapses,
- 18:39Speaker 2: my photos. I had a hard time editing, just editing
- 18:43Speaker 2: my stuff in general, and I was always a big,
- 18:46Speaker 2: a big uh against really any editing. It was one
- 18:51Speaker 2: of my philosophies. My personal philosophies for photography was shoot
- 18:56Speaker 2: to print, not shooting edit. So I was always trying
- 19:00Speaker 2: to get the perfect exposure of the perfect color is
- 19:02Speaker 2: the perfect you know, the perfect composition, and that's not
- 19:05Speaker 2: always realistic. And you know, I don't really know photoshop
- 19:09Speaker 2: that well. I could go in and maybe blow out
- 19:13Speaker 2: a couple of dust spots if I didn't clean my sensor.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And the only AI I've used in my photo editing
- 19:19Speaker 2: is the is the AI is their lightroom has a
- 19:23Speaker 2: new AI noise reduction for for long exposure or you know,
- 19:28Speaker 2: nighttime stuff, and it looks really good now. It doesn't
- 19:32Speaker 2: do it perfect and you can tweak it and stuff,
- 19:34Speaker 2: But even that makes me feel a little icky about it.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I was trying the other day Sean to take a
- 19:40Speaker 1: photo and I put it in a photoshop and I
- 19:43Speaker 1: wanted to separate something out of the photo. Matter of fact,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think it was a picture, uh still from the show,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and I wanted to take us out of the background
- 19:54Speaker 1: to put us into this this graphic, and it was
- 19:58Speaker 1: we have a hard time around, especially Justin's hair because
- 20:01Speaker 1: you know he's got the spiky hair and the colors
- 20:04Speaker 1: from the background were coming through and that's hard to edit.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Adobe does have a new tool that's part of Photoshop
- 20:09Speaker 1: that made me say, ooh, do I want to go
- 20:12Speaker 1: back to Photoshop because this tool can take And I
- 20:16Speaker 1: saw a demonstration of it and I was like, and
- 20:18Speaker 1: again it uses AI to go in there and actually
- 20:21Speaker 1: fine tune, you know, with the walking ants to the
- 20:25Speaker 1: each tool, the lasso tool, each like each color that
- 20:30Speaker 1: came through, and they so he did like a bicycle
- 20:33Speaker 1: with the spokes. Every spoke showed up. Now, anybody who
- 20:37Speaker 1: has done editing with Photoshop, like myself, knows that that
- 20:40Speaker 1: is really difficult to do.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Tedious.
- 20:43Speaker 1: It's tedious, and I use a Walcom tablet and I
- 20:45Speaker 1: could still edit with it. But again it's like they're
- 20:49Speaker 1: making it easier to the point. But again you're you're
- 20:52Speaker 1: you're paying for that, you know, if you want to pay.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You see some of these videos up on social media
- 20:58Speaker 1: with the babies talking. You know, it's like it's amazing,
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's like, how did they do that? You know it's
- 21:04Speaker 1: fake though, yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I think we are. I think it's And with just
- 21:10Speaker 2: the way the world is right now and the way
- 21:13Speaker 2: you never know what's real right now. And did I
- 21:16Speaker 2: post that? Did you post that? Did somebody else post
- 21:19Speaker 2: it on my account? Did I get hacked? How do
- 21:20Speaker 2: you know? And I would really say that, And with
- 21:23Speaker 2: the volatility of posting content that may be socially dangerous
- 21:30Speaker 2: at this point in time, you may lose your job,
- 21:33Speaker 2: or you may get harassed, or you may get you know, doxed.
- 21:36Speaker 2: So it's it's just it's hard to It's just a
- 21:39Speaker 2: hard place to be on the internet right now.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It really is. There is one thing I want to
- 21:43Speaker 1: tell people, though, that I thought was pretty cool. We
- 21:45Speaker 1: talked about this before. No book LM when it comes
- 21:49Speaker 1: to AI, and that's part of Google, so you got
- 21:50Speaker 1: to I think it's a notebook LM dot Google dot com, nopook,
- 21:55Speaker 1: LM gives you the ability and this they're they're calling
- 21:57Speaker 1: it a study tool. And I've had another teacher or
- 22:00Speaker 1: agree with me. This can be pretty good. You know,
- 22:03Speaker 1: in the old days, the old age. When you needed
- 22:06Speaker 1: to study, you had to open a book, you had
- 22:08Speaker 1: to go to the library, maybe an encyclopedia, and you
- 22:11Speaker 1: would read it and you would go through that book
- 22:13Speaker 1: and you would study and study and hopefully you retain that.
- 22:16Speaker 1: You know. Of course, the Internet came along and then
- 22:18Speaker 1: you would go to Google or you go any one
- 22:21Speaker 1: of the sites for Encyclopedia, Britannic or whatever. Remember in
- 22:25Speaker 1: Karta for Microsoft, that was cool.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we had we had the whole World book
- 22:32Speaker 2: from UH in Karta or Britannica, I don't remember what
- 22:36Speaker 2: it was, the whole thing, the whole series.
- 22:37Speaker 1: And you could read you could read right there online.
- 22:39Speaker 2: That was one of my first real like computer experiences, right,
- 22:42Speaker 2: was the Britannica CD. The CDs with the you could
- 22:46Speaker 2: interactive encyclopedias and interactive uh you know, World dictionaries and stuff.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Feels really cool.
- 22:52Speaker 1: But as let's face it, Jeohn, though, as news moves
- 22:56Speaker 1: and news develops, that's the problem with those programs is, well,
- 23:02Speaker 1: nothing's updated. The web updates it a lot faster than
- 23:05Speaker 1: a book will do. But you take notebook LM and
- 23:08Speaker 1: say I went to a website and I wanted to
- 23:11Speaker 1: learn about this company. You know, maybe I'm going to
- 23:14Speaker 1: apply for a job with this company, so I could
- 23:17Speaker 1: take it. I go into notebook, LM, put the weblink
- 23:21Speaker 1: or even copy and paste the text into notebook. What
- 23:24Speaker 1: it does is creates two people talking about it, almost
- 23:27Speaker 1: like a podcast. So it's like a book on tape.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You're listening to two people talking about it. Well, they
- 23:32Speaker 1: have added something to it that I thought was pretty cool.
- 23:36Speaker 1: They've added an interactive feature. So say I'm listening to
- 23:40Speaker 1: it and they're talking about something. I want to ask
- 23:42Speaker 1: a question. I can summon a question, type it up,
- 23:46Speaker 1: type whatever question I have. They will respond based on
- 23:49Speaker 1: the information they've been fed.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So I'm seeing that. I'm looking at it now and
- 23:53Speaker 2: it's You can just start typing in the middle of
- 23:55Speaker 2: an article.
- 23:56Speaker 1: And they will go ahead and then and those voices
- 23:58Speaker 1: will respond to what you've asked. You can find stuff
- 24:00Speaker 1: a lot easier. As a study tool, this could be
- 24:04Speaker 1: very beneficial. Will it take over education? Will it take
- 24:08Speaker 1: over teaching? No, the work the teachers do. No, not
- 24:11Speaker 1: at all. But it is something to help maybe, you know,
- 24:14Speaker 1: students understand stuff. I'll tell you what we got to
- 24:17Speaker 1: take a quick break. We come back. We do have
- 24:18Speaker 1: some listener questions too. We got a Wise update as well,
- 24:22Speaker 1: something new from Wise that Sean looked at it and said, WHOA,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I didn't know they were doing this. So we'll find
- 24:27Speaker 1: out more about that when we come back. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm Sean de Weird.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Find us on the web tech talk radio dot com.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Now back to tech talk Radio.
- 24:36Speaker 2: So right before the break, Andy dropped a little nugget
- 24:42Speaker 2: about Wyse, and they call me the wise Guy. I mean,
- 24:46Speaker 2: ever since Wyse has been a thing, since I bought
- 24:48Speaker 2: the V one camera twenty I don't even know it's
- 24:52Speaker 2: twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen. I've always been intrigued by what
- 24:55Speaker 2: they've been doing, keeping up on them. So they call
- 24:57Speaker 2: me the wise Guy. But I've kind of fallen out
- 24:59Speaker 2: of sorts. I haven't had it, they haven't had anything
- 25:01Speaker 2: that I've needed or wanted, and so there's been a
- 25:03Speaker 2: handful of products that we just haven't talked about on
- 25:05Speaker 2: the show.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I had a friend of mine named Tom lives out
- 25:08Speaker 1: here sent me a note, and I don't know if
- 25:11Speaker 1: people send you notes like this, he said, outdoor camera recommend.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Go Oh, I get those all the time. I also
- 25:17Speaker 2: send those to people too. So it's like, if I
- 25:20Speaker 2: want something like that, if I know a friend of
- 25:22Speaker 2: mine is versed in, I'm just like, give me information
- 25:25Speaker 2: on this thing that I know you know a lot about.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Go Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Well why is Wise become, though, like such a company
- 25:32Speaker 1: that makes these products that people want to buy? I
- 25:34Speaker 1: mean the Roku sells them as a third party device,
- 25:37Speaker 1: you know, with the Roku label. Why are they so popular?
- 25:41Speaker 2: I mean I think they just got a popularity because
- 25:44Speaker 2: they were so dirt cheap. You're paying thirty five dollars
- 25:47Speaker 2: for a security camera or less. When the big popular
- 25:50Speaker 2: ones Google, Nest and Google, you know, the ring cameras
- 25:54Speaker 2: and the other doorbell cameras from those big, big, big vendors.
- 25:57Speaker 2: And then here comes this little, eadybaty company that just
- 26:00Speaker 2: sneaks in under the radar and says here's a thirty
- 26:03Speaker 2: dollars camera, and everybody's like wait what And so yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 2: now that comes with risk, right, because there's an incentive
- 26:10Speaker 2: for these big companies to not let these small companies
- 26:12Speaker 2: get a foothold. So there were some security issues they
- 26:15Speaker 2: got found out pretty early that got that kind of
- 26:18Speaker 2: got covered up. There was some some shadiness around some
- 26:22Speaker 2: of the security stuff. I think they got through that,
- 26:26Speaker 2: but it's been a good ride. I have about a
- 26:29Speaker 2: dozen of them and a dozen of their bulbs. I mean,
- 26:31Speaker 2: all the blue light you see on the video and
- 26:33Speaker 2: for me is all through the Wise bulbs. They have
- 26:35Speaker 2: good products. I haven't had an issue with them. Every
- 26:37Speaker 2: company has their NASA ers. Everybody company has their their
- 26:40Speaker 2: their fanboys. They've been they've been good products and I
- 26:43Speaker 2: haven't had yeh, the pricing and I haven't had a
- 26:45Speaker 2: major issue with them, and they've just been good.
- 26:49Speaker 1: So but you'll also like the subscription model they have
- 26:53Speaker 1: as well.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Yeah so for so for the cameras, there's actually a
- 26:56Speaker 2: little bit of a newer version of the plan. There's
- 26:59Speaker 2: an Ultimate and then an Ultimate pro Plan and then
- 27:02Speaker 2: an Ultimate something that's there's a couple of different tiers
- 27:04Speaker 2: now of plans. But the plan that I have is
- 27:08Speaker 2: unlimited Camplus. So I pay ninety nine dollars a year,
- 27:13Speaker 2: so the whole year I get access to all the
- 27:16Speaker 2: Camplus features for any camera that I have. I can
- 27:19Speaker 2: just go in and add any unlimited number of cameras
- 27:22Speaker 2: to the Camplus platform, so that gives me cloud storage,
- 27:25Speaker 2: it gives me and there's a handful of things that
- 27:27Speaker 2: I get, but I think I've got about a dozen
- 27:29Speaker 2: cameras on that list. Now I'm not running those cameras
- 27:32Speaker 2: all the time, they're not all plugged in all at
- 27:33Speaker 2: the same time, but it gives me that. Otherwise, I
- 27:38Speaker 2: was paying four ninety nine a month per camera, per thing,
- 27:41Speaker 2: per month, per you know. So then it actually came
- 27:43Speaker 2: in and worked out to be a better deal for
- 27:45Speaker 2: that and yeah, so but I just haven't bought a new,
- 27:49Speaker 2: a new WIS product in quite a while. So the
- 27:52Speaker 2: newest one that Andy actually said that before the beginning
- 27:56Speaker 2: of the show. He's like, hey, has there been any
- 27:58Speaker 2: new WIS products lately? And so I open up the
- 28:00Speaker 2: word page, right there was a new palm scanner. So
- 28:05Speaker 2: it's a it's a Wise dead bolt lock, so they
- 28:08Speaker 2: have a smart lock. But this is what apparently could
- 28:10Speaker 2: do vein scanning. So not like you know, not like
- 28:14Speaker 2: in the sci fi movies where you put your palm
- 28:15Speaker 2: up and it reads the palm river, but or you
- 28:18Speaker 2: can just type the number in on the screen and
- 28:20Speaker 2: it'll do it. So it's got a Palm reader. It's yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 2: it's called the Wise Palm Block.
- 28:26Speaker 1: So does it come with the so you to install
- 28:29Speaker 1: this lock in your door and it comes with that
- 28:32Speaker 1: and then yeah, so.
- 28:32Speaker 2: You're basically replacing your door handle with it.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Cool.
- 28:36Speaker 2: It would be like a smart lock, you know, on
- 28:38Speaker 2: your door or your dead bolt. So I wouldn't necessarily
- 28:40Speaker 2: say your door handle, but your dead bolt contact us
- 28:43Speaker 2: entry with palm vein recognition, you can control if you
- 28:48Speaker 2: can unlock it from your phone. It's got a six
- 28:52Speaker 2: months battery that it's got a really big it says
- 28:54Speaker 2: six month main battery. I don't know what the actual
- 28:57Speaker 2: size of the battery is because you can unlock it
- 28:58Speaker 2: with your Palm code, key app, voice assistant, or latch.
- 29:03Speaker 2: So it's just a cool little thing. It looks kind
- 29:05Speaker 2: of cool. I like the fact that they have so
- 29:07Speaker 2: many products. Sean every time.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You know, you will talk about Whise, whether it be
- 29:13Speaker 1: the the camera over the garage. I've been wanting to
- 29:15Speaker 1: get one of those that has little lights. I mean,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I have a camera, but that's it and it picks
- 29:20Speaker 1: up pretty good, but not like you know shot. Matt
- 29:24Speaker 1: was talking about real ink, which is funny because I had.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I've had a real link camera forever and you never
- 29:29Speaker 1: really heard too much about them. Suddenly people are talking
- 29:32Speaker 1: about them. But Wise does it, and you save money
- 29:36Speaker 1: on it and you still capture what you need.
- 29:39Speaker 2: So I think, I think if Wise does this one
- 29:41Speaker 2: thing and they make it available, that out of the box,
- 29:47Speaker 2: you can align these via RTSP, so you can record
- 29:52Speaker 2: to your own local storage on an ass or whatever
- 29:56Speaker 2: however you want to do it. Just by default, you
- 29:59Speaker 2: can enable it. Don't have to go buy a hacked
- 30:01Speaker 2: firmware to do it, which I've done. Give me RTSP
- 30:04Speaker 2: straight out of the box. Yeah, it's wireless whatever. You're
- 30:06Speaker 2: gonna get a little latency there. But then I can
- 30:09Speaker 2: then I can choose my own storage. I don't have
- 30:11Speaker 2: to rely on cloud storage. I don't have to. And
- 30:13Speaker 2: then I can view it all on my own and
- 30:14Speaker 2: I own my own server and I can do all
- 30:16Speaker 2: my own viewing if I want to, I connect to
- 30:17Speaker 2: my VPN, I can do. Give that to me, give
- 30:20Speaker 2: me the freedom to leave my own content on prem
- 30:23Speaker 2: instead of having to put it in the cloud. That
- 30:26Speaker 2: that would be huge for me because it would just
- 30:28Speaker 2: free up some security risks, some security concern like, you
- 30:31Speaker 2: don't have to if you want it available the cloud, sure,
- 30:33Speaker 2: but you don't have to have an available in the
- 30:35Speaker 2: cloud right now. It's all cloud right any recorded, any record,
- 30:39Speaker 2: well not, I wouldn't. I don't want to say it
- 30:41Speaker 2: all in the cloud. You can record locally to the
- 30:43Speaker 2: SD card, but to get that you have if you
- 30:47Speaker 2: want to view it on your phone, it has to
- 30:48Speaker 2: go to the cloud. There's some other things. If you
- 30:50Speaker 2: had the ability to just do all RTSP straight out
- 30:53Speaker 2: of the box, configure out how you wanted, it'd be huge.
- 30:56Speaker 2: But yeah, the other the other two products that they
- 30:59Speaker 2: had that we hadn't talked about. They have a wise
- 31:02Speaker 2: bulb cam.
- 31:04Speaker 1: This is cool.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so you suck a light bulb that you screw in.
- 31:06Speaker 2: It's got a camera hanging off the bottom. So think
- 31:09Speaker 2: of think of it like you put one in your
- 31:12Speaker 2: you know, the the wisconces that are around your garage door.
- 31:15Speaker 2: So the two lights that are on the opposite opposite
- 31:17Speaker 2: side of your garage door, one of them could now
- 31:19Speaker 2: have a ball in it and then a camera. Now
- 31:22Speaker 2: that's low hanging fruit for a thief if they want
- 31:24Speaker 2: to see they can don't screw it whatever. But any
- 31:27Speaker 2: light socket now could become a a camera which they
- 31:33Speaker 2: have a light socket adapter to also, which works pretty good.
- 31:36Speaker 2: But then you're left having that light switch on the
- 31:39Speaker 2: other thing. The other thing that I've found about found
- 31:41Speaker 2: out about Why's cameras or wise light bulbs is people
- 31:47Speaker 2: don't always know how to use them if you have
- 31:49Speaker 2: guests over. You know, I hacked physically hacked two of
- 31:55Speaker 2: the Whys switches to run them off USB. So right,
- 32:00Speaker 2: we've got one sitting next to the light stand in
- 32:02Speaker 2: our living room, and I've got one right here on
- 32:05Speaker 2: my desk that i can control all my lights down here.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So most people that see lamps in the rooms and
- 32:10Speaker 2: they don't see a switch, they just go over and
- 32:12Speaker 2: pull the pull the chain and turn them off. Well,
- 32:15Speaker 2: then if you go to hit the switch, it doesn't
- 32:17Speaker 2: do anything because the powers off. So I'm trying to
- 32:20Speaker 2: get people to understand that, no, you can just push
- 32:22Speaker 2: this push this button that's right next to the lamp
- 32:25Speaker 2: to control them both. Well, what if you want one
- 32:28Speaker 2: of them off? Because on the WHY switch you only
- 32:31Speaker 2: get four functions. You get one press, long press, double press,
- 32:36Speaker 2: triple press. So I've got it set in my living room.
- 32:40Speaker 2: For one, press is on right, long press turns all
- 32:44Speaker 2: of the lights in the house off. So even if
- 32:47Speaker 2: I lift my lights on down here, or if I
- 32:48Speaker 2: left the light light on the living room or the
- 32:50Speaker 2: back room or the garage, long press on any of
- 32:53Speaker 2: my lights, which just turns them all off. Double press
- 32:55Speaker 2: will put the lights in the living room at ten percent.
- 32:58Speaker 2: So if at nighttime we're trying to wind down, triple
- 33:01Speaker 2: press brings everything to one hundred percent. So like daytime,
- 33:04Speaker 2: if the lights are on, or if you're trying to
- 33:06Speaker 2: get a little bit brighter, you can just go triple press.
- 33:09Speaker 1: So you do this all with the Wise app, right, Yeah, you.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Just could figure it in the Wise app. Yeah, So
- 33:14Speaker 2: every every switch you have can do those those four functions,
- 33:17Speaker 2: right or five functions long press, single press, double press,
- 33:21Speaker 2: triple press.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Have you thought about fight electric? See? The thing is
- 33:25Speaker 1: the Wise camp. The Wise cameras are great. The Wise
- 33:29Speaker 1: other features they've I mean they've done everything from even
- 33:32Speaker 1: you know, mobile vacuums like the rumba similar to that.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, but the light bulbs themselves.
- 33:39Speaker 1: If you look at Fight f E I T they
- 33:41Speaker 1: make some bulbs and I have some of those and
- 33:44Speaker 1: I like them. Roku makes them as well, which I
- 33:46Speaker 1: think could be very well be Wise bulbs, but I'm
- 33:51Speaker 1: wondering the pricing. Wise, we see the pricing on the
- 33:54Speaker 1: cameras a lot better than the Nest cameras, you know,
- 33:59Speaker 1: much better than and the real links, but the real links
- 34:01Speaker 1: quality is amazing. I'm wondering if the bulbs themselves though,
- 34:05Speaker 1: if somebody wanted to do what you do where you
- 34:08Speaker 1: have them in one, you know, TV room, you could
- 34:10Speaker 1: change the color, you could make them do all of this.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It's a cheaper because.
- 34:15Speaker 2: So the bulbs, their bulbs are still about twenty six
- 34:18Speaker 2: bucks apiece. I think you know, I've got some of
- 34:20Speaker 2: the Wise plugs, I've got the floor lamp, I've got
- 34:23Speaker 2: some of their LEDs. I mean, I kind of went
- 34:25Speaker 2: all out when they announced the light bulbs because I
- 34:27Speaker 2: thought they were really cool and they've been working really
- 34:29Speaker 2: really well. And I've actually got the ones that are
- 34:32Speaker 2: like the dome shaped ones too, so it's not just
- 34:34Speaker 2: the regular regular light socket ones. They have the bigger
- 34:37Speaker 2: dome ones because I have all recessed can lighting in
- 34:39Speaker 2: my basement and it helped quite a bit so I've
- 34:43Speaker 2: got two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve, probably fourteen of
- 34:48Speaker 2: them in the basement. I think maybe moreen Oh my lord, yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 2: I replaced them all and so like if I just
- 34:52Speaker 2: do a single, I just turned them off. But so
- 34:55Speaker 2: if I turn them on and I do a long
- 34:57Speaker 2: press right, turns them all the way. So now it's
- 35:01Speaker 2: all white throughout throughout this half of my basement.
- 35:04Speaker 1: You need to pick up that rum shown look at that.
- 35:05Speaker 2: This is my base was a disaster. And that's the
- 35:08Speaker 2: benefit of having a space to myself and to toddlers
- 35:11Speaker 2: that can't come down here. I can leave it them out.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there you go.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So two presses will then turn it back to blue
- 35:16Speaker 2: for the front of the show.
- 35:18Speaker 1: And is that easy to program? So somebody listening maybe
- 35:20Speaker 1: is not too tech heavy, they could set something like
- 35:23Speaker 1: this up and maybe not have a problem with it.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you have to go in and tell it.
- 35:28Speaker 2: It's a rule, right, So it's like if this, then
- 35:30Speaker 2: that type of situation. Right. So it's like if this
- 35:33Speaker 2: is pressed twice, change these bulbs if you put them
- 35:37Speaker 2: in a group, so you put it, say change this
- 35:39Speaker 2: bulb group too blue at one hundred percent. Now I
- 35:42Speaker 2: also haven't said that if I triple tap this one
- 35:45Speaker 2: right and I'm watching a movie on my projector, the
- 35:48Speaker 2: two lights that are above the screen will shut off
- 35:52Speaker 2: while the other ones change.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Right, So it.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Reduces the light reflection off of the screen while keeping
- 35:59Speaker 2: the other bulbs on, but made a much timmer level
- 36:01Speaker 2: so you can kind of customize what it does. So
- 36:03Speaker 2: I've got a theater mode, so like if I want
- 36:05Speaker 2: watch a movie out here, I just triple tap this
- 36:08Speaker 2: and it changes, turns these ones off, keeps those ones on,
- 36:11Speaker 2: but dims the ones by the by the front.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Can you tie that into your home assistant so that way,
- 36:17Speaker 1: you know, if you walk into a room and you
- 36:19Speaker 1: if you've got a home assistant, like you know, an
- 36:22Speaker 1: Alexa or you know, maybe the Google one, you could say,
- 36:27Speaker 1: you know, turn on lights or turn on lights in
- 36:29Speaker 1: this room or whatnot. Can you do that with the
- 36:31Speaker 1: wise bolts?
- 36:32Speaker 2: I believe you can do a Google assistant and not sure.
- 36:35Speaker 2: I don't have a smart house, right, This is all
- 36:37Speaker 2: just me with buttons. I don't talk to my house,
- 36:41Speaker 2: so it's not something I've ever wanted to do. You know,
- 36:44Speaker 2: I've got friends that do it, and they think it's
- 36:46Speaker 2: the greatest thing ever. I just like I can go
- 36:49Speaker 2: push the switch, like I don't want to talk to
- 36:51Speaker 2: my house.
- 36:53Speaker 1: You know what, it's scary when your house talks back
- 36:55Speaker 1: to you. That's the thing you got to really watch
- 36:57Speaker 1: out for. All right, let's see if we get well,
- 36:59Speaker 1: one question and we'll we'll come back with more. This
- 37:02Speaker 1: one is, hey, guys, maybe you can help with this.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I have an iPhone, so does a friend of mine.
- 37:07Speaker 1: When she sends a text something, sometimes it's blue, sometimes
- 37:11Speaker 1: it's green. What does it mean? Is there something wrong
- 37:14Speaker 1: with my phone? That came in from Bill?
- 37:16Speaker 2: So if you both have iPhones and you both have
- 37:18Speaker 2: I messaging, when you get a green message, all that
- 37:21Speaker 2: means is that it was sent via text, via SMS,
- 37:25Speaker 2: via an actual text message because they either didn't have
- 37:28Speaker 2: enough service, were not on Wi Fi, some some form
- 37:32Speaker 2: of the it couldn't be sent through I message, meaning
- 37:35Speaker 2: it's not end to endencrypted. It's just a text message.
- 37:38Speaker 2: So because if you get low service, or you have
- 37:42Speaker 2: a single bar, or you're not a WiFi sometimes you
- 37:45Speaker 2: get the option or it fails to send. You can
- 37:47Speaker 2: press the little exclamation mark next to the message and
- 37:50Speaker 2: say try to send us text message. So that's what
- 37:52Speaker 2: I'll try to do.
- 37:54Speaker 1: And that sometimes sometimes you'll have photo problems with photos
- 37:57Speaker 1: or larger files. But again, if it's just sent text
- 38:00Speaker 1: to each other and the colors are different, that's what
- 38:03Speaker 1: that means. All Right, we have a quick break, we
- 38:05Speaker 1: come back. We got another question, and it's all about
- 38:07Speaker 1: that upcoming date October fourteenth. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I'm sorry to wear it. Go ahead and give us
- 38:13Speaker 2: a like on your podcast platform of choice, speaker, Spotify,
- 38:17Speaker 2: you name it.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Weord there and now back to tech talk radio.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Watching a DVDA the other day, I saw that thing
- 38:23Speaker 3: that's at the beginning of dav days these days, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 3: the anti pyrusy advertisements, and this one said it said
- 38:29Speaker 3: you wouldn't steal a mobile phone, you wouldn't steal a car.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Guys might have seen this. I think to myself, well,
- 38:35Speaker 3: you're right, you know, I wouldn't steal a car. But
- 38:39Speaker 3: if it might of mine called me out and said, Sam,
- 38:42Speaker 3: I've just bought a new car. Would you like me
- 38:44Speaker 3: to burn you a copy? I reckon, I'd consider that.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Get another question on the show. We just handled Bill's
- 38:54Speaker 1: question about you know, the green blue text on an iPhone,
- 38:58Speaker 1: which also if you have an Android device, notice it
- 39:00Speaker 1: they're blue. Does that still let somebody know that you've
- 39:03Speaker 1: read their message?
- 39:04Speaker 2: So about six months ago, Apple actually started supporting RCS messaging,
- 39:11Speaker 2: which was the whole Android not being able to talk
- 39:15Speaker 2: to Apple low res images and you can't whatever. So
- 39:19Speaker 2: if you and if that's enabled, and they have read
- 39:23Speaker 2: receipts enabled, you can now see when they're typing, if
- 39:28Speaker 2: they're type you know, if they're typing, if they've read
- 39:30Speaker 2: your message, et cetera. So the message is still green,
- 39:33Speaker 2: so you know it's not coming from an I message device,
- 39:35Speaker 2: but it's got the features of IE message pretty much
- 39:38Speaker 2: wrapped up.
- 39:39Speaker 1: All right. Good now, Lisa sent us this question about
- 39:41Speaker 1: the big upcoming date October fourteenth, and some people have
- 39:45Speaker 1: been really worried about this, but this is a good question,
- 39:48Speaker 1: she said. This is about Windows ten. She said, her
- 39:51Speaker 1: company she works for has about ten computers all on
- 39:55Speaker 1: Windows ten, and the boss is freaking out thinking it
- 39:58Speaker 1: needs to buy ten new PCs ease Windows eleven and
- 40:03Speaker 1: all the work needed to do the transfer up to
- 40:05Speaker 1: data everything to those new PCs. She listened to the
- 40:09Speaker 1: show and heard us mention that for thirty dollars a year,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you could get your updates at least for a year.
- 40:16Speaker 1: At least it's for a year. This is what we
- 40:18Speaker 1: know of you could get the security updates. And she
- 40:21Speaker 1: wanted to know would that be safe to do? So
- 40:23Speaker 1: her boss isn't thinking he's going to have to drop
- 40:26Speaker 1: six hundred bucks, seven hundred dollars on a brand new
- 40:28Speaker 1: Windows eleven times ten, where instead he's paying thirty dollars
- 40:32Speaker 1: per seat. And again remember that's per seat, that's not
- 40:35Speaker 1: per PC. I mean, I mean not overall. That's going
- 40:38Speaker 1: to be three hundred bucks to get these security updates
- 40:41Speaker 1: if he's not ready to update.
- 40:43Speaker 2: So I just looked it up. The Extended Security Update
- 40:46Speaker 2: for Organizations of Businesses on Windows ten can be purchased
- 40:49Speaker 2: today through the Microsoft Volume Weisley program sixty one US
- 40:53Speaker 2: dollars per device for year one.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Oh sixty one. So it's not thirty.
- 40:58Speaker 2: So it's a little bit more than I think we
- 40:59Speaker 2: thought it was going to be. This is six days ago.
- 41:02Speaker 2: They posted this on the tenth of September.
- 41:04Speaker 1: M Now, for I know for consumers though that are
- 41:10Speaker 1: in this boat that are like not wanting to update
- 41:13Speaker 1: to they don't want to buy new Windows eleven box.
- 41:15Speaker 1: They haven't been able to update. I will share this
- 41:18Speaker 1: with you. Ed Bot is one of the senior editors
- 41:21Speaker 1: at ZD net. Ed has been on this show a
- 41:23Speaker 1: couple of times. We're talking way back in the early days.
- 41:26Speaker 1: But ed put together an article that is a must read.
- 41:31Speaker 1: If you're sitting on the fence, you have Windows ten,
- 41:34Speaker 1: you don't want to go or you can't you can't
- 41:36Speaker 1: afford a new Windows eleven computer. You know, you do
- 41:39Speaker 1: all that transferring stuff and all that. Here's the deal.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Ed Bot's article, Well, yes, it'll mention the you know,
- 41:46Speaker 1: paying for consumer thirty dollars license. Also talks about one
- 41:50Speaker 1: drive if you want to allow one drive to do
- 41:53Speaker 1: your you know, you want to allow one drive to
- 41:56Speaker 1: do your backup, and Microsoft says will allow it. So
- 42:00Speaker 1: don't understand that. They think it's you know, it's a
- 42:02Speaker 1: way that Microsoft is going to get your data. But
- 42:05Speaker 1: it might be smart thinking on Microsoft's part, because you've
- 42:07Speaker 1: gone through this shun, you've updated somebody, they installed one driver,
- 42:11Speaker 1: They let one drive do the work, and then suddenly
- 42:14Speaker 1: they had to buy more storage.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Well they didn't buy more storage, but they were like, Oh,
- 42:20Speaker 2: why is it telling me I only have five gigs
- 42:21Speaker 2: of storage and I just bought a terribyte hard drive.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and it filled up pretty quickly. So that's one way. Now.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Ed's article talks about TPM two point zero, which is
- 42:34Speaker 1: a trusted Platform module that a lot of people are
- 42:37Speaker 1: running into or even older processors. I ran into that.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I had a TPM that I purchased addeds to my
- 42:44Speaker 1: system and then I when it came to the processor,
- 42:48Speaker 1: it didn't meet the specs and it wasn't. That was
- 42:51Speaker 1: probably one below, one generation below what it needed to be.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But in the article that Ed put together, Ed bought
- 42:57Speaker 1: zd net, it goes over everything you need to think about,
- 43:02Speaker 1: including registry hacks to edit your registry and again it's
- 43:07Speaker 1: if you want to take this on. But again he
- 43:09Speaker 1: goes to the step by steps and using Rufous, which
- 43:13Speaker 1: is a program that is a free, open source portable
- 43:17Speaker 1: utility that can help you will help you create bootable
- 43:20Speaker 1: USB drives from isomag images that can help you get
- 43:24Speaker 1: over that and get Windows eleven installed, and.
- 43:28Speaker 2: The Rufous, the Rufous way is the way to go
- 43:31Speaker 2: if you're if you're even remotely tech savvy and want
- 43:34Speaker 2: to reinstall Windows Windows eleven or go from ten to eleven. Rufous,
- 43:40Speaker 2: get the ISO, put it on rufous. You can skip
- 43:43Speaker 2: all of the BS that comes with uh, you know,
- 43:46Speaker 2: it just doesn't it just will install it. It's like
- 43:49Speaker 2: I don't care about TPM, I don't care about all
- 43:51Speaker 2: this sort of stuff. I'm just gonna install it and
- 43:53Speaker 2: if it works, it works great.
- 43:54Speaker 1: But you may not be able to That's that's what
- 43:59Speaker 1: I ran into. But this article is is really well done.
- 44:02Speaker 1: And again it's on zd net you can look it up.
- 44:04Speaker 1: A lot of people have been thinking about doing that one.
- 44:07Speaker 1: And I don't know if this would work for Lisa's
- 44:10Speaker 1: situation at her company. I mean, that's you know, that's
- 44:13Speaker 1: that's quite a bit to bite off. I would I
- 44:18Speaker 1: would not rec Do you think that the hackers and
- 44:20Speaker 1: those that are sending malware are going to step it
- 44:23Speaker 1: up October fifteenth?
- 44:25Speaker 2: But I'm just wondering probably.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, they're gonna look for holes.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I mean, it's always going to be a constant threat.
- 44:37Speaker 2: And I think you just have to keep up on
- 44:39Speaker 2: keeping your patches in place because those companies have people
- 44:43Speaker 2: that their whole job is to just look for threats
- 44:46Speaker 2: and update code and push you know, you know, if
- 44:50Speaker 2: you work at an organization, I'm sure you get the
- 44:51Speaker 2: emails to say, patch Chrome, there's a critical day one
- 44:54Speaker 2: day zero vulnerability. Patch Chrome. You know it's I get
- 44:58Speaker 2: them at least once a week from the university saying
- 45:02Speaker 2: your browser has to updated because there's a patch. Your
- 45:05Speaker 2: OS st updated because it's a patch. Your Windows OSS
- 45:08Speaker 2: to be patched, your phone OS has to be patched,
- 45:11Speaker 2: your watch OS has to be patched. I mean, think
- 45:13Speaker 2: about all the devices you own that are connected to
- 45:15Speaker 2: the internet. They're all running some version of OS. So
- 45:19Speaker 2: that's a lot of places that people could be hiding
- 45:22Speaker 2: malicious you know, malicious content that people have to think about, watches, phones, cars,
- 45:28Speaker 2: you know, pacemakers, probably he even think about it. Right,
- 45:31Speaker 2: It's like even the smallest device that could be a
- 45:34Speaker 2: computer could be the target of a malicious code. So
- 45:38Speaker 2: all right, I wanted.
- 45:40Speaker 1: To ask you about this new product from Roku, and
- 45:42Speaker 1: I'll be honestly, I just bought myself the TV in
- 45:46Speaker 1: our studio, went out the thirty two inch TV we had,
- 45:48Speaker 1: and we just basically used it for graphics, it's got
- 45:52Speaker 1: the Sling TV on it, or is no TVO I'm sorry.
- 45:57Speaker 1: It's got the TVO on it, which is an online service,
- 46:01Speaker 1: and I get watch channels and it has a guide,
- 46:03Speaker 1: the whole bit. But I needed to get a new
- 46:06Speaker 1: TV for the studio for our background, so I went
- 46:10Speaker 1: shopping and I found a Roku television which is actually
- 46:14Speaker 1: pretty cool, and the Roku tee for one hundred and
- 46:17Speaker 1: eighteen bucks for a forty we'll say it was a
- 46:20Speaker 1: forty two inch a high sense ten ADP. Not I
- 46:24Speaker 1: didn't go four K. I would have to spend another
- 46:26Speaker 1: one hundred bucks on that, but I was, I was
- 46:29Speaker 1: pretty impressive. Roku actually has some pretty neat features on
- 46:32Speaker 1: it as well. And I don't know if you've used
- 46:35Speaker 1: Roku TVs, but I was.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Like, we do, yeah, not that. So I like my
- 46:39Speaker 2: our Roku TV. I think the best part about it,
- 46:41Speaker 2: and this is what I use this quite often is
- 46:45Speaker 2: with the Roku app. For what it gives you a remote control.
- 46:49Speaker 2: It has your apps all right there, so you can
- 46:51Speaker 2: just tap on like Plex, Disney plus Netflix, and I'll
- 46:53Speaker 2: think you're right there. It doesn't even load the rest,
- 46:55Speaker 2: It just takes you to that app, it logs in.
- 46:58Speaker 2: The feature I like the most is when I'm cleaning
- 47:00Speaker 2: around the house and I don't want to be tied
- 47:05Speaker 2: to my phone, I'll put on my Bluetooth headphones, open
- 47:09Speaker 2: the Roku app, start something on my TV unplucked for whatever,
- 47:13Speaker 2: put it in headphone mode, which then plays the audio
- 47:15Speaker 2: through my Bluetooth headphones from the tee fake. It's playing
- 47:18Speaker 2: on the TV, so it's not using the bandwidth to
- 47:20Speaker 2: my phone, but it's broadcasting the audio to me in
- 47:24Speaker 2: my headphones. So I can just watch it on TV.
- 47:27Speaker 2: But I can then walk around the house and clean
- 47:29Speaker 2: or do stuff. Well I'm still listening to the show
- 47:31Speaker 2: or whatever I'm watching that. I use it all the time.
- 47:34Speaker 2: It's perfect for if you're vacuuming and you're trying you know,
- 47:37Speaker 2: you're vacuuming the living room and you're like trying to
- 47:39Speaker 2: watch and listen at same time. You can't do that
- 47:41Speaker 2: without headphones on, but if you do that, it's great
- 47:43Speaker 2: and their noise canceling so bock and so I use
- 47:46Speaker 2: it all the time when I'm walking around the house.
- 47:48Speaker 1: So now so for somebody with maybe hearing difficulties, yeah,
- 47:52Speaker 1: you can.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Pair it with your you can pair it with this
- 47:55Speaker 2: is a This is a good thing and a bad thing. Right.
- 47:58Speaker 2: My buy dad and my father in law both have
- 48:01Speaker 2: new really fancy hearing aids that you compare bluetooth to.
- 48:07Speaker 2: So sometimes you walk into the house they're watching TV.
- 48:11Speaker 2: You sit down, you try to talk to them, but
- 48:13Speaker 2: they can't hear you because they're listening to the TV
- 48:17Speaker 2: in their in their uh they're whatever, they're hearing aids. Yeah,
- 48:22Speaker 2: and then they see you and they're like, oh, I
- 48:23Speaker 2: didn't know you were there because I was listening to
- 48:25Speaker 2: the TV in my hearing aids. Because they're like they're like, oh,
- 48:28Speaker 2: you know, my mom will be on her iPad doing
- 48:30Speaker 2: work and my dad wants to watch TV, but it's
- 48:33Speaker 2: distracting from my mom, so he'll put it into his
- 48:36Speaker 2: hearing aids and then my mom needs his attention but
- 48:39Speaker 2: he can't hear her.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Okay, So here's some though, and I'm wondering about this, Sean,
- 48:44Speaker 1: have this. This will work pretty good. So if somebody
- 48:47Speaker 1: is watching a show and they just have a little
- 48:49Speaker 1: harder time hearing it. You know, I've been wearing headphones
- 48:52Speaker 1: for ford almost forty years. Right in this job, and
- 48:56Speaker 1: my hearing is not the best in the world because
- 48:59Speaker 1: of that constant you know, feeding right into my ear.
- 49:03Speaker 1: So I always have the TV up too loud. Glory's
- 49:05Speaker 1: always saying, can you tryin it down? It'steal loud? Sorry,
- 49:08Speaker 1: she doesn't always sound like that. But and I'm wondering,
- 49:12Speaker 1: could I put the bluetooth from a Roku television into
- 49:15Speaker 1: my my earbuds, right, and then she could still hear
- 49:20Speaker 1: the TV.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Don't know, I've never tried it. I've never tried it. It
- 49:23Speaker 2: always just mutes it the output of the TV. So
- 49:25Speaker 2: I don't know. Now, could two people on two separate
- 49:29Speaker 2: phones here it that way? I don't know, never tried.
- 49:32Speaker 1: It, all right, We're always investigate that one.
- 49:35Speaker 2: But yeah, So back to the projector, right.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they're now new projector from Roku.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah, new projector from Roku. It's ten ADP, right. It
- 49:44Speaker 2: can take in four K, so you could feed it
- 49:47Speaker 2: the four K source, but it downscales into ten ADP,
- 49:49Speaker 2: which is fine hundred thirty antsy lumens not the best,
- 49:53Speaker 2: but not the worst. And it says it can do
- 49:55Speaker 2: forty inch one hundred and fifty inch. Yeah, it's got
- 50:00Speaker 2: auto focus in auto Keystones. Keystone is like the Z
- 50:04Speaker 2: dimension space like if you're trying to get it, so
- 50:06Speaker 2: it looks flat, right, It's got a ten y It's
- 50:11Speaker 2: got a built in speaker, so if you're portable and
- 50:13Speaker 2: you're trying to get it, it looks awesome. Bluetooth heads
- 50:16Speaker 2: phone mode, which we just talked about here go and
- 50:19Speaker 2: works with Roku wireless speakers or some bars. It has
- 50:22Speaker 2: Apple Play support. Plus it has the Roku OS so
- 50:27Speaker 2: any app if you have a Roku TV, any app
- 50:30Speaker 2: that you can get on the TV will be available
- 50:31Speaker 2: on the projector, which is great.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Which have you you use a projector? Right? I have?
- 50:38Speaker 2: I have a ben Q ten ADP. I bought it
- 50:43Speaker 2: when we bought the house. It's you know, from twenty nineteen.
- 50:47Speaker 2: It's been great. It's powerhouse to hd my inputs, so
- 50:51Speaker 2: I can go between my computer if I want to
- 50:52Speaker 2: put my computer up there, or my on Q sounds.
- 50:59Speaker 2: My receiver so I've got you know, my switch, my Xbox,
- 51:03Speaker 2: my PlayStation, a Blu ray player. All that stuff is
- 51:06Speaker 2: plugged into the on Kyu receiver and then I can
- 51:09Speaker 2: change the source and it'll push the HDMI out to
- 51:13Speaker 2: the projector, which is great because then I can also
- 51:15Speaker 2: just bluetooth audio if I want to listen to music,
- 51:17Speaker 2: because I've got you know, I've got surround sounds set
- 51:19Speaker 2: up down here too. So it sounds really good on
- 51:21Speaker 2: watching movies.
- 51:22Speaker 1: But was it a big adjustment to go from a
- 51:24Speaker 1: screen to go to a projected screen or did you
- 51:28Speaker 1: really not even notice it? Is it that good?
- 51:31Speaker 2: No? No, I've got you know. Our house fortunately came
- 51:35Speaker 2: with a drop down pulled down a drop down screen
- 51:39Speaker 2: that's one hundred and thirty inches, so I had to
- 51:43Speaker 2: set the projector up at the appropriate distance. But it
- 51:46Speaker 2: looks fantastic. I mean, we've watched Super Bowls, New Year's Eve,
- 51:50Speaker 2: you know, twitch Con, blizz Con, you know, anything we
- 51:53Speaker 2: like to watch. We just pull it up either from
- 51:56Speaker 2: my Xbox or from my PC, just plugged in HTMI.
- 51:59Speaker 2: So this is looks it sounds great.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Their first projector they put out. And the nice thing
- 52:04Speaker 1: about it costs wise because the bank cues I know,
- 52:06Speaker 1: are very pricey.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it was about eight hundred bucks I think.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we looked at one from Samsung years ago that
- 52:15Speaker 1: was huge and it was great at four K the
- 52:17Speaker 1: whole bit. But you can pick this up for under
- 52:19Speaker 1: two hundred.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Bucks two hundred and forty nine MSRP or one hundred
- 52:23Speaker 2: and seventy nine on Amazon.
- 52:24Speaker 1: All right, we gotta take another quick break. We come
- 52:26Speaker 1: back more of tech talk Radio.
- 52:27Speaker 2: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, friend us on
- 52:30Speaker 2: Facebook at tech Talkers.
- 52:32Speaker 1: And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Right before the break, we were discussing the Roku projector
- 52:38Speaker 2: and the Roku TVs today before the show got to
- 52:42Speaker 2: my TV and I launched the Pleux app and it's like,
- 52:45Speaker 2: please wait, we're updating. And I was like, wait what.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I normally don't have auto update apps on because I
- 52:51Speaker 2: hate sometimes when they auto update and they sign you
- 52:53Speaker 2: out or they cause all sorts of problems and you're like,
- 52:55Speaker 2: wait a minute, I don't like this feature, et cetera, etcetera.
- 52:58Speaker 2: And it's hard you're.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Trying to use it.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and companies don't make it easy to go backwards.
- 53:02Speaker 2: But didn't have any issues with this. It's like, great,
- 53:04Speaker 2: this looks fine. There's some some uy changes, nothing nothing big.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Not the case for a lot of people on recoup
- 53:09Speaker 2: TVs for the Plex app, specifically the update apparently picture
- 53:14Speaker 2: quality issues frequent stuttering and crashes of the Plex app
- 53:18Speaker 2: on rocou TVs.
- 53:20Speaker 1: For our listeners that don't know Plex, what is.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Plex is a home media server. You can curtail it
- 53:28Speaker 2: to your own liking. You can have your own content
- 53:30Speaker 2: on a server that will play your a PC that'll play,
- 53:33Speaker 2: but it can also play live TV. It can play
- 53:35Speaker 2: you know. It's like Sling, it's like fu Boo, it's
- 53:38Speaker 2: like any of those other free apps that can get
- 53:40Speaker 2: content to you via their free channels. Primarily, it's used
- 53:44Speaker 2: for people that have their own media that they want
- 53:47Speaker 2: to stream from a server or their own PC. But
- 53:49Speaker 2: the other note that I wanted to mention before we
- 53:52Speaker 2: wrap up the show was if you have Plex, you
- 53:55Speaker 2: should probably be changing your password. They had a security
- 53:58Speaker 2: breach about a week ago. They've had a few over
- 54:02Speaker 2: the years, but this one was just the most recent.
- 54:04Speaker 2: So again, just be vigilant. Change the password, you know,
- 54:07Speaker 2: give it that special character, give it you know, don't
- 54:09Speaker 2: name it after your dog or you know, those those
- 54:11Speaker 2: types of things. So just just read up about it
- 54:14Speaker 2: if you want. But it seems like it wasn't, you know,
- 54:17Speaker 2: from their PR standpoint, doesn't seem like it was that bad,
- 54:19Speaker 2: but any hack is bad, so just change passwords. And
- 54:23Speaker 2: if you have the pleasapp on Rokuo TV, be wary
- 54:26Speaker 2: that if you update it it may or may not
- 54:29Speaker 2: work as you expect, so just proceed of caution.
- 54:32Speaker 1: So all right, Well that's it for this week's show.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Hopefully the guys will all be back with us next week,
- 54:36Speaker 1: and Justin's will have all his hair dealing with network
- 54:40Speaker 1: issues today, so again that'll be hopefully next week. In
- 54:43Speaker 1: the meantime, thank you, Sean, great information. If you have
- 54:46Speaker 1: a question for us, you can certainly drop us a
- 54:49Speaker 1: line tech Guys at tech talk radio dot com. I'm
