- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey everyone, it's Ashley and I have I have the
- 0:09Speaker 2: lovely Ellen from the Golden Bachelor. Here. Ellen, your storyline
- 0:13Speaker 2: to me was probably like one of the ones that
- 0:17Speaker 2: made me feel the most because right off the bat
- 0:21Speaker 2: we hear about your friend who passed away, and I
- 0:25Speaker 2: think that was like the first time I cried during
- 0:27Speaker 2: the Golden Bacheloh, and then maybe you at the reunion
- 0:33Speaker 2: show was probably the last time I cried.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Oh. They really just brought it out of me. I
- 0:38Speaker 3: mean like he really pulled me out of my covering
- 0:42Speaker 3: zone because I'm not good with that. And you know,
- 0:44Speaker 3: first I had to see the rejection with Gary, which
- 0:47Speaker 3: was hard, and you know, I've come to terms with
- 0:50Speaker 3: it and everything and I really have. It really is
- 0:51Speaker 3: helped me. But we finished that and then he was like,
- 0:56Speaker 3: but we can't like go without leaving without talking about ROBERTA.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm like, oh no, this is going to be a
- 1:02Speaker 3: double whammy. I mean it's really going to get to me.
- 1:05Speaker 3: And the truth is when he started bringing that out,
- 1:09Speaker 3: it started like saying, well, I probably would never have
- 1:11Speaker 3: had this experience if it wasn't for her Roberta. And
- 1:16Speaker 3: then when he said, I said, you know, I miss
- 1:18Speaker 3: her a lot, and I sort of got chearry eyed,
- 1:20Speaker 3: which I usually I'm okay with that, you know, I
- 1:24Speaker 3: was usually controlled. But then when he said, like, there's
- 1:27Speaker 3: someone here that wants to see you, and I was like, who, Like,
- 1:33Speaker 3: don't freaking my kids are here or somebody. I mean,
- 1:35Speaker 3: it is Courtney And I said, oh my god. I
- 1:37Speaker 3: wasn't even supposed to leave the stage. I wasn't supposed
- 1:40Speaker 3: to get up. I said, I don't, I'm making the
- 1:43Speaker 3: rules and I went down, and I just like, it
- 1:46Speaker 3: was amazing the last time you'd seen her. I see
- 1:49Speaker 3: her a lot. I do, but not in California, you know.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I mean staying at her mom's house, Roberta's house for
- 1:59Speaker 3: the because she had bought a condo in my community
- 2:03Speaker 3: and was her wish to live near us with our fiance,
- 2:06Speaker 3: and he bought her a condo in my community. She said,
- 2:10Speaker 3: I'm retiring, so you can use my office in the bedroom,
- 2:12Speaker 3: you know, Roger, really, well, it's just going to be
- 2:14Speaker 3: for the summer, like camp, you know. And we had
- 2:17Speaker 3: one summer together and it was done, so I'm still
- 2:20Speaker 3: there and she's not, so it's really freaky. But Courtney's
- 2:24Speaker 3: been coming to visit and go through stuff with me,
- 2:26Speaker 3: and you know, stuff like that, so she's like a daughter.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I mean, we know Bert and I know each other
- 2:31Speaker 3: since we're ten years old. So it's been a whirlwind.
- 2:37Speaker 3: It is very high emotions, low emotions, feelings all over
- 2:41Speaker 3: the place, which is so not like me.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So you and ROBERTA, when did you sign yourself up
- 2:47Speaker 2: for the show with her?
- 2:49Speaker 3: I think she's sort of starting right. Well, it wasn't
- 2:53Speaker 3: team at all.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It wasn't she just did it completely.
- 2:55Speaker 3: No, she did know I did it, but she gave
- 2:59Speaker 3: me such gar built that this is my life right now.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You're my best friend forever. We watched The Bachelor twenty
- 3:06Speaker 3: years together. I need to see this first. That's why
- 3:09Speaker 3: the first episode was so meaningful because I need to
- 3:12Speaker 3: see this first episode with you. I need to get there,
- 3:15Speaker 3: have a destination, have a desire to keep going, and
- 3:20Speaker 3: how are you going to get realed? So but I
- 3:24Speaker 3: just want you to do it for me And I said, no,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I can't do that. She said, you're going to tell
- 3:30Speaker 3: someone that you love since you're ten years old with
- 3:33Speaker 3: stage four cancer, that doesn't have a really good prognosis
- 3:36Speaker 3: that you can't do the one thing.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Just apply, so you just.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I didn't want to do it, so I just apply.
- 3:45Speaker 3: And I said, Okay, what's a big I'll apply. Nothing's
- 3:48Speaker 3: going to happen. I mean literally, I mean thirty thousand
- 3:52Speaker 3: people applying, I'm just going to apply. So I didn't care,
- 3:55Speaker 3: and I care enough for her, but I just did it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And then when the casting productive producers came on and
- 4:02Speaker 3: I was like, go, go for ask me whatever you want.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I don't care. And I was so relaxed because you know, Jay,
- 4:08Speaker 3: I was so cute and it was just really nice.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And he said, wow, you're so naturally so calm. I'm like, okay,
- 4:16Speaker 3: I don't want to say to him because I really
- 4:17Speaker 3: don't want to do this. You're like, oh, I was
- 4:20Speaker 3: too comfortable. I was too comfortable, and he sensed that.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And then one thing led to another. The next thing
- 4:26Speaker 3: I know, I'm being fingerprinted and I'm getting a background check.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I go, oh my god, I hope they don't find
- 4:30Speaker 3: out about what's his name was? I was kidding and
- 4:32Speaker 3: they thought it was funny, but I was just trying
- 4:35Speaker 3: to be funny, just to do it, but it was
- 4:38Speaker 3: really a lot of fun.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So when you found out that Gary was going to
- 4:41Speaker 2: be the Golden Bachelor, had you'd already been casted?
- 4:44Speaker 3: Cast No, As a matter of fact, I was, Yes,
- 4:46Speaker 3: I was really casted without knowing. If I remember correctly,
- 4:51Speaker 3: I was anticipating his back being turned around.
- 4:55Speaker 2: So we saw on that one post.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I knew I was going, but I wasn't sure if
- 5:00Speaker 3: I was definitely going. I was waiting for the call
- 5:03Speaker 3: to come. They said, get ready, this is going to
- 5:08Speaker 3: be it, but I didn't know until he turned around.
- 5:10Speaker 3: When he turned around, I was like, oh, yummy, good.
- 5:14Speaker 3: He's cute, you know. And I didn't mean yummy, you
- 5:19Speaker 3: know what I mean. But he was really not hot
- 5:23Speaker 3: on the eyes, and I was like, oh, he sounds
- 5:25Speaker 3: really nice. He's got a cute personality. And he turned
- 5:28Speaker 3: out to be a really great guy. He just wasn't
- 5:30Speaker 3: a guy for me and I wasn't the girl for him,
- 5:33Speaker 3: and it taught me a lot. He made very good
- 5:36Speaker 3: choices tonight. He did exactly what he should have done.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So I am really happy for her. I was her
- 5:42Speaker 3: roommate also for a month. It was a crazy month,
- 5:45Speaker 3: but I sincerely was happy for her. I'm happy for
- 5:49Speaker 3: her and a family. They have a whole plan, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 3: the whole exciting thing about the way, it's just going
- 5:55Speaker 3: to be really fun.
- 6:06Speaker 2: When you found out that you were officially cast in
- 6:09Speaker 2: that Gary was the bachelor and you saw his picture,
- 6:12Speaker 2: what was the conversation like between you and Roberta.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I first I told her I hated her, and then
- 6:21Speaker 3: I said I'm gonna go. What happened was I had
- 6:25Speaker 3: developed a this is I never told anybody this lot
- 6:28Speaker 3: of podcasts. I never did. I developed a absence on
- 6:31Speaker 3: my cheek. And it was like three weeks before I
- 6:34Speaker 3: was supposed to go, and I said, oh my god,
- 6:38Speaker 3: I can't go. I mean, it was really like a
- 6:41Speaker 3: golf ball and I said, I don't know what to do,
- 6:43Speaker 3: and the doctors in Florida couldn't help. But I said,
- 6:46Speaker 3: I'm going home to New York to my dermatologist. So
- 6:49Speaker 3: I really had a lot of faith in and she said,
- 6:52Speaker 3: I'm getting you on that Goddamn lady. It kills me.
- 6:55Speaker 3: There's no way I'm not letting a patient mine be
- 6:57Speaker 3: a goldenem Bacheloretta's no way. So she allowing she has
- 7:03Speaker 3: to go. She has to go, and doctor D thank
- 7:06Speaker 3: you so much because it wasn't for you. And Roberta
- 7:09Speaker 3: kept saying to me the whole time. That's where I
- 7:11Speaker 3: get this from. Never say never, so you'll meet somebody.
- 7:14Speaker 3: It may not be your guy, but whatever, never say never.
- 7:17Speaker 3: You're going on that plane. You're going to get to go.
- 7:20Speaker 3: You are not going to look like a monster. You'll
- 7:22Speaker 3: be fine. And sure enough it cleared up, like enough
- 7:26Speaker 3: to cover it with makeup and now it's much better.
- 7:29Speaker 3: But it was. It was really scary, and I knew
- 7:33Speaker 3: that I wasn't going to go, that's how bad it was.
- 7:35Speaker 3: So but she kept motivating me and said, I said,
- 7:38Speaker 3: how much you really want me to go? Look at me?
- 7:40Speaker 3: My boys said, Ma, you can't go with it like that,
- 7:43Speaker 3: No you can't. And she kept saying to the boys stop,
- 7:47Speaker 3: She'll be fine, and I was and I was able
- 7:49Speaker 3: to go. So there was like somebody, a higher power
- 7:53Speaker 3: that was way above Roberta or me. That really made
- 7:57Speaker 3: it really special because I just felt her presence the
- 8:01Speaker 3: entire time I was on the show, and she was
- 8:05Speaker 3: when I got home, and I couldn't communicate with her
- 8:07Speaker 3: because she was like in a semi home estate. It
- 8:10Speaker 3: was really difficult because I felt her like squeeze my
- 8:15Speaker 3: hand and the next day didn't feel anything, and she
- 8:17Speaker 3: was still with me, and I said, it's okay. This
- 8:21Speaker 3: is when it got me at the women tell it's okay, go,
- 8:24Speaker 3: it's okay. I want you to watch it. We'll watch
- 8:29Speaker 3: together different places, that's all. And that got me because I,
- 8:35Speaker 3: you know, and then I see Courtney right after that,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and it was like, oh, you kidding me, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 3: because Courtney was with me the whole time with all this,
- 8:43Speaker 3: you know, at the hospital, this hospice and everything. I'm
- 8:47Speaker 3: just so glad in a way. This is terrible to say,
- 8:51Speaker 3: but I'm really glad I didn't get it because I
- 8:54Speaker 3: wouldn't have been there for her for the last few days.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And it wasn't a good match anyway, where we probably
- 9:02Speaker 3: would be great friends because we had a lot of fun.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Like he said that, Gary did say to me that
- 9:09Speaker 3: he felt we'll sit to everybody. I always felt the
- 9:12Speaker 3: most comfortable with Ellen, Like it didn't I want to
- 9:15Speaker 3: see if there's a romantic you know part of this,
- 9:18Speaker 3: But I always felt I could be myself with Ellen,
- 9:21Speaker 3: so I knew there would always be a bond and
- 9:23Speaker 3: a friendship. But yeah, I wouldn't. If I was with
- 9:28Speaker 3: him and he picked me, it probably wouldn't have been
- 9:30Speaker 3: a good match, and I wouldn't have been able to
- 9:32Speaker 3: say goodbye to her. So everything happens for a reason.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Your friendship is seriously so special.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It was very feel like sixty years a long time.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It feels like you guys were like.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I lost my go to person, you know. I mean,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I have a lot of very good friends in Delray.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I have a lot of good friends in New York.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I visit them all the time. My family is in
- 9:50Speaker 3: New York. But there was something about Roberta that was
- 9:54Speaker 3: just it was a true, honest to goodness sister friendship
- 10:00Speaker 3: was So if anybody is lucky enough to have something
- 10:02Speaker 3: like that, they are blessed. So treat each day like
- 10:06Speaker 3: it's a gift. That's what I said doing Thanksgiving.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Sorry, she did put you on a path that that
- 10:16Speaker 2: like changed your life for sure, because totally you didn't
- 10:19Speaker 2: want to go on the show. On the show, I
- 10:21Speaker 2: know that you took so much goodness away from it,
- 10:24Speaker 2: and you took a lot of hope from it. I did,
- 10:27Speaker 2: And now you really feel like you can find love again.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And I got three days on three Saturdays in a row.
- 10:33Speaker 2: No tell us about these men.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I don't know. I wish I did, either someone that
- 10:40Speaker 3: knows somebody or somebody's grandpa that you know I was
- 10:45Speaker 3: a teacher of a long time ago. Or it's just people.
- 10:50Speaker 3: It's a drink. It's a drink, it's a hello, it's
- 10:52Speaker 3: a meet and chat. You know, that's it. It's an hour.
- 10:56Speaker 3: If it's longer than an hour, could be a dinner
- 10:58Speaker 3: date one night. But I stop at an hour all
- 11:00Speaker 3: the time. I haven't dated in a long time, but
- 11:02Speaker 3: I remember stopping it an hour. If it really works,
- 11:05Speaker 3: then it's time for another day. If it didn't work,
- 11:08Speaker 3: it wasn't meant to be anyway. So the hour is
- 11:10Speaker 3: like a healthy hour.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I love that because my mom's always taught me leave
- 11:14Speaker 2: when you're having fun, leave them wanting more exactly. And
- 11:17Speaker 2: I feel like an hour day is the person, and
- 11:20Speaker 2: I think about them, and.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I think about thank got out to spend another minute
- 11:24Speaker 3: with them, or but I'm excited about it. And there's
- 11:27Speaker 3: a lot of sexy, great fun, pickleball golfing, crazy people
- 11:32Speaker 3: men out there that will be a lot of fun
- 11:35Speaker 3: to be with. And I just hope the fact that
- 11:37Speaker 3: I was on the Golden Bachelor doesn't freak them out
- 11:41Speaker 3: a little because.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It means like I'd like to be serious.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Well, I'm enough to freak out anybody because I'm crazy
- 11:46Speaker 3: and fun nutty, but the fact that it's part of
- 11:50Speaker 3: the program makes them a little bit. I want them
- 11:53Speaker 3: to be themselves. I don't want them to be like
- 11:56Speaker 3: someone they're not, you know, And that's one thing I
- 11:59Speaker 3: just always was genuine. I hope, and I just hope
- 12:03Speaker 3: that they are too. And if they are, then I'll
- 12:05Speaker 3: see it if I'll see right through it.
- 12:06Speaker 2: So you are making it sound as if, now you
- 12:10Speaker 2: have a lot of clarity that you and Gary weren't compatible,
- 12:14Speaker 2: but when you're on the show, you were. You were
- 12:16Speaker 2: very quick to start confessing your feelings. Oh yeah, the
- 12:22Speaker 2: first one. So why the clarity now, Well.
- 12:24Speaker 3: What happened was I felt like he felt very comfortable
- 12:27Speaker 3: with me. I felt extremely comfortable with him because he
- 12:32Speaker 3: was very attentive and really listen to me and funny
- 12:38Speaker 3: and the jokes, and he was just totally like not
- 12:42Speaker 3: what they portray as crying machine on television. He was
- 12:46Speaker 3: really a lot of fun to be with. And the
- 12:48Speaker 3: more I made him laugh, the more comfortable he got,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and I felt comfortable. So I felt the natural attraction
- 12:55Speaker 3: for him because he was very nice to look at.
- 12:58Speaker 3: He was a lot of fun to be with, and
- 13:00Speaker 3: I said, I haven't felt this way with a man
- 13:02Speaker 3: in a long time. It's like I'm having these feelings
- 13:04Speaker 3: come out. And then the more I would after the
- 13:07Speaker 3: princess state, Oh my god, I mean I felt, I mean,
- 13:10Speaker 3: this is so out of my comfort zone. If it's
- 13:12Speaker 3: not sneakers and a riped T shirt, I'm not happy.
- 13:14Speaker 3: So I walked into this room with these gorgeous gowns
- 13:17Speaker 3: and then the earring say hello and you, and it
- 13:22Speaker 3: just turned my like I saw the sensitive part of
- 13:25Speaker 3: me that I never saw before. You know, I was
- 13:28Speaker 3: always the one cracking jokes and being funny haha. But
- 13:30Speaker 3: the truth is that I didn't want to be just
- 13:32Speaker 3: funny jokes this time. I mean I really dug him.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I mean I really thought he was really really cool
- 13:38Speaker 3: and nice and funny, and he brought out a sight
- 13:41Speaker 3: of me that I didn't know still happened. And there
- 13:43Speaker 3: is that person inside that does want to be that serious,
- 13:47Speaker 3: nice romantic side, and there's still the fun, silly craziness.
- 13:51Speaker 3: So I'd like it to I would like it to
- 13:55Speaker 3: work with someone else, send someone local, it would be nice.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I don't want to sell my beautiful Kondo a love
- 14:00Speaker 3: it there, you know, and I want to make it work.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I mean, I was willing to do fifty and fifty,
- 14:05Speaker 3: but I don't know if he was because I wasn't
- 14:08Speaker 3: the right person for him anyway. So Teresa is definitely
- 14:11Speaker 3: perfect for him. They'll be happily ever after.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Oh so sweet? All right, Well, we are rooting for
- 14:16Speaker 2: you and make upsdates on these dates? Can we you
- 14:18Speaker 2: be our golden Bachelor on the Almost Jamous podcast and
- 14:21Speaker 2: we're gonna send you on dates everywhere? You're going to
- 14:25Speaker 2: report back? That'd be so fine.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I will, but I will not mention names in case
- 14:29Speaker 3: it's a real dud. You know. I don't want to
- 14:32Speaker 3: save the embarrassment of Hopefully I will not have to
- 14:36Speaker 3: kiss a lot of frogs, just a couple, and maybe
- 14:39Speaker 3: the one of those frogs will turn into a prince.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be nice? Yes? Thank you, Ellen, thank you
- 14:45Speaker 3: so much for having me. Bye.
