- 0:01for most people, the external personality and being the body
- 0:05and its needs, and habits the life force and it's desires, and
- 0:10the mind, and its particular predilections represent, who
- 0:15they are, rarely an individual reflects deeply on the question
- 0:20of, who am I And begins to understand that there is a
- 0:25deeper significance and reality to our lives than can be
- 0:30contained. Within this external being when
- 0:35we die the life force, departs from the body and the body,
- 0:39disintegrates back into its constituent elements.
- 0:44If the body is the measure of our existence, then we are
- 0:48bounded within the period of birth and death and there is no
- 0:52further. Either significance.
- 0:54If we identify with the life force, we may conclude that it
- 0:59continues to exist. After the death of the body and
- 1:02simply takes another body, like changing a suit of clothes.
- 1:06When the time for one body is finished, if that were the case,
- 1:11however, we would be able to identify a continuity of Life
- 1:16Force along some specific, chosen path or Focus.
- 1:20Yet, we find that there does not seem to be a Parent organized,
- 1:26sustained being consisting of that life force.
- 1:31But rather that the life force, even if it holds together for
- 1:35some time after death, eventually also dissolves into
- 1:40the constituent elements of the Life Energy.
- 1:44We tend to identify most closely with the mind.
- 1:48I think. Therefore, I am the famous
- 1:51dictum of Descartes, expresses this idea.
- 1:56At the time of death, what happens to the Mind?
- 2:00Do we still identify with? And think with the mind when the
- 2:03life force departs from the external being and the body
- 2:06dissolves. Does the mind, reconstitute a
- 2:10new body and life force and continue.
- 2:13Along its chosen developmental path.
- 2:17We have no evidence that a Shakespeare or an Einstein or a
- 2:21shankaracharya consciously continue along their specific
- 2:26path of mental focus and development in a new body.
- 2:30It appears from what we can tell that the mental formation that
- 2:35constituted a specific being in life, also dissolves into its
- 2:40own constituent elements. Or into the collective
- 2:44unconscious as viewed by Young even if it survives the
- 2:50dissolution of the Body for some period of time.
- 2:55This is not a new line of inquiry.
- 2:58The Tibetan Book of the Dead sets forth, a detailed review of
- 3:02the stages of dissolution, successively of the body, the
- 3:07Life Energy, and the mind of an individual who dies.
- 3:12What is left, is the essence of the being, which eventually
- 3:16after shedding the body life and mind of one being or external
- 3:21personality takes a new birth. And a new life without carrying
- 3:28forward, the specific personality that existed in the
- 3:32prior lifetime, the ancient Greeks held that Souls that took
- 3:37birth had to pass through the waters of lengthy and thus not
- 3:42bring with them into a new life, the memories and details of the
- 3:46past life. The tight area would punish odd
- 3:51explores this question and eventually recognizes that the
- 3:54body, the Life Energy and the mind are not our true selves.
- 4:00There is a causal being and a being of bliss that are more
- 4:05Central to the truth of our existence that by which we are
- 4:09born that, by which we exist, and that, by which we survive
- 4:15death. This is the true inner being
- 4:18that utilizes the body life and mine for its manifestation
- 4:23growth and development. The bhagwad Gita describes this
- 4:28deeper true being, which uses the Mind life and body as its
- 4:32Machinery, but which is not either Bound by them or defined
- 4:37by them. This bifurcation between the
- 4:41external being and the true inner spark, which is termed,
- 4:45the optimum the psychic being or the soul and the need to shift
- 4:50the identification from the external personality to the true
- 4:54inner being and the consequent disruptions this can create for
- 4:58an individual based primarily in the external being initially are
- 5:04the underlying issues that caused the alternations of
- 5:08consciousness. As we become aware of and shift,
- 5:12our standpoint to the true being and away from the external being
- 5:19SRI aurobindo notes, quote, the real reason of the difficulty
- 5:24and the constant alternation is the struggle between the veiled
- 5:27true being within and the outer nature, especially the lower
- 5:32vital full of desires and the physical mindful of obscurity
- 5:36and ignorance. The struggle is a Inevitable in
- 5:40human nature and no Sadiq escapes.
- 5:43It everyone has to deal with that obscurity and resistance
- 5:47and its obstinacy and it's constant recurrence.
- 5:53For the lower nature is not only persistent in its repetitions
- 5:57and returns, but even when it is on the point of changing, the
- 6:03general powers of that plane and Universal nature, try to keep up
- 6:07the resistance by bringing back the old movements at each step,
- 6:13in order to prevent the progress from being confirmed for good
- 6:17and made final. It is true.
- 6:20Therefore that a constant, sadhna persistent, and unceasing
- 6:25is necessary. If one wants to go quickly
- 6:29though, even otherwise one will arrive at if the soul within has
- 6:34to call for the soul will persist.
- 6:37And after each obscurity ation, or stumble will bring back the
- 6:42light and drive one on the path, till it feels that it is at
- 6:46least At Last secure. Of a smooth and easy March to
