- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi, get everybody. I'm Dan Horden. Thanks for downloading The
- 0:06Speaker 1: Bengals Booth Podcast. The One at a Time addition as
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Bengals look for their second straight win as they
- 0:13Speaker 1: head to Buffalo to face the Bills. Coming up, we'll
- 0:17Speaker 1: discuss Joe Burrow's successful return from toe surgery with another
- 0:21Speaker 1: quarterback who overcame numerous injuries, University of Cincinnati Hall of
- 0:26Speaker 1: Famer Tony Pike. My one on one player interview is
- 0:29Speaker 1: with b J Hill, who explains why the Bengals defense
- 0:33Speaker 1: is getting better. And I'll talk to two broadcasters, Joe Davis,
- 0:37Speaker 1: who will call this week's game on Fox and former
- 0:40Speaker 1: Pro Bowl center Eric Wood, who is now the radio
- 0:43Speaker 1: analyst for the Buffalo Bills. The Bengals Booth Podcast is

- 1:14Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since
- 1:19Speaker 1: Scrub Mommy sponges. I am the primary dishwasher in the
- 1:25Speaker 1: Horde household, and I have become a big fan of
- 1:28Speaker 1: scrub Mommy sponges. It's an offshoot of the scrub Daddy,
- 1:33Speaker 1: which was one of the most successful products ever to
- 1:36Speaker 1: launch on Shark Tank because of its innovative flex texture
- 1:41Speaker 1: foam which changes stiffness and scrubbing power based on water temperature,
- 1:47Speaker 1: firm in cold water and soft in hot. It also
- 1:51Speaker 1: has a smiley face cut into it that is helpful
- 1:55Speaker 1: for cleaning both sides of knives, forks, and other utensils.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The Scrub Mommy is a little different because it's double sided,
- 2:04Speaker 1: with a scrubber on one side and a softer sponge
- 2:07Speaker 1: on the other. You probably didn't expect to get a
- 2:10Speaker 1: sponge breakdown on a football podcast, but I suspect the
- 2:14Speaker 1: most innovative coach in pro sports history, Paul Brown, would
- 2:19Speaker 1: have appreciated the technology behind the Scrub Mommy, not to
- 2:24Speaker 1: mention having very clean dishes. Now, let's get to football
- 2:30Speaker 1: quarterback Tony Pike led the University of Cincinnati to back
- 2:33Speaker 1: to back appearances in the Orange and Sugar Bowls despite
- 2:37Speaker 1: serious injuries to his left forearm. In both seasons. He
- 2:42Speaker 1: was able to keep playing after having a plate inserted
- 2:45Speaker 1: into his arm that was held in place with six screws.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So if anybody can identify with what Joe Burrow did
- 2:53Speaker 1: on Thanksgiving night, it's Tony and he joined Dave Lapham
- 2:57Speaker 1: and me to discuss it this week. Scale of one
- 3:01Speaker 1: to ten, all things considered, the rust coming back with
- 3:06Speaker 1: a plate in his shoe. How impressed were you by
- 3:08Speaker 1: what Joe Burrow did in Baltimore twelve?
- 3:11Speaker 2: I mean the.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Scale of that's good, Like every professional has been blown
- 3:16Speaker 3: away that he came back as early as he did. Yep,
- 3:18Speaker 3: And to not only come back, he goes under center
- 3:21Speaker 3: on the first nap play action and rolls out to
- 3:23Speaker 3: his left. It's the hardest thing your quarterback can do, right,
- 3:25Speaker 3: going across your body. And then he drops back forty
- 3:28Speaker 3: six times in the game. So are you thinking, like,
- 3:32Speaker 3: all right, game plan, you got to kind of work
- 3:34Speaker 3: around maybe some deficiencies. Is his mobility limited? He was fantastic.
- 3:39Speaker 3: He do the ball thirty two times in the first half.
- 3:41Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Now there's credit where credits do He was only sacked once.
- 3:46Speaker 4: So o.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Line play has been so much better as the season
- 3:49Speaker 3: has gone on. Chase Brown's been a monster. Another one
- 3:52Speaker 3: hundred yard game from scrimmage, but he spreads the ball
- 3:55Speaker 3: out to nine different targets. Coming back from this long
- 3:59Speaker 3: of arrest after a major surgery for a quarterback, I
- 4:03Speaker 3: was concerned about him pushing away from the pocket, getting
- 4:06Speaker 3: out under center. He checked that box, he threw on
- 4:09Speaker 3: the run. He showed no limitations. I'm still shocked, Like
- 4:13Speaker 3: looking back watching the tape, I'm still shocked that he
- 4:17Speaker 3: operated physically and what I was even more impressed with mentally,
- 4:21Speaker 3: the checks he got on the right call, the touchdown
- 4:23Speaker 3: to Yoshibash He brings in a tight end, he brings
- 4:25Speaker 3: in a running back like Max protect the mental and
- 4:29Speaker 3: the physical match and it looked like a guy that
- 4:30Speaker 3: played all.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Year, no doubt, no question. I mean, he played a
- 4:34Speaker 5: phenomenal football game. But you know he proved beyond a
- 4:38Speaker 5: shadow of doubt that he is the straw that stirs
- 4:41Speaker 5: the drink. I mean the football team. It's a different
- 4:44Speaker 5: animal with Joe Borrow at the quarterback position. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 5: he elevates everybody. Everybody just feels like, Okay, we got it,
- 4:51Speaker 5: our boys back, we got our guy. We're in high
- 4:54Speaker 5: cotton right now. All we have to do is is play,
- 4:58Speaker 5: play hard, make plays, you know, go out there with
- 5:01Speaker 5: some some emotions, some energy, some enthusiasm, because we got
- 5:04Speaker 5: our we got our leader, we got our guy back.
- 5:07Speaker 5: And he is He's a he's a football savant. He
- 5:10Speaker 5: understands the game of football like not many. There's no question.
- 5:13Speaker 5: He just he gets every single little nuance about the
- 5:17Speaker 5: game of football. And uh and and nobody does better
- 5:20Speaker 5: than the belief. Like you know, you've been in the
- 5:23Speaker 5: locker room before he walks in. It doesn't matter if
- 5:26Speaker 5: it's a long snapper, if it's a dB, a linebacker.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Everyone says, all right, like there's a calmness about Joe Burrow,
- 5:34Speaker 5: And now your preparation changes. Now I'm more locked in
- 5:37Speaker 5: because I saw that guy come back in the locker
- 5:38Speaker 5: room and I know what he expects of me and
- 5:40Speaker 5: what he expects of himself. It does it it.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think confidence is one of the most important things
- 5:45Speaker 3: in football, and that whole team is confident when number
- 5:48Speaker 3: nine is in the locker room.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think confidence is probably you know,
- 5:51Speaker 5: I don't want to get overly philosophically.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Confidence.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Confidence is the biggest thing in life, you know. I mean,
- 5:57Speaker 5: you don't think you can do it, and I got
- 5:59Speaker 5: no shot, you know. I mean, if you think you
- 6:00Speaker 5: can do it, you always have a shot, always have
- 6:02Speaker 5: a chance. And that's what he does. He gives the
- 6:06Speaker 5: team hope. That's what it boils down to keep hope alive.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And Joe Burrow keeps hope alive, and everybody responds to her.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Everybody ups their level of play. And when this next game,
- 6:20Speaker 5: when they when they go to battle against Buffalo, when
- 6:22Speaker 5: he's got both Higgins and Jamar Chase back, he should
- 6:27Speaker 5: be even in higher cotton than he was against the
- 6:31Speaker 5: Baltimore Ravens because the trio is back.
- 6:34Speaker 4: You know, It's not just a duo here and a
- 6:37Speaker 4: duo there.
- 6:37Speaker 5: It's all three of those guys, and all three of
- 6:40Speaker 5: them are amongst the best in the NFL at their
- 6:42Speaker 5: respective positions.
- 6:43Speaker 4: All Right, that's a perfect segue.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Let's hear from head coach Zach Taylor on Joe Burrow's
- 6:48Speaker 1: impact on everybody in the building when he came back
- 6:52Speaker 1: last week.
- 6:53Speaker 6: I mean, he's one of the greatest players in the world,
- 6:55Speaker 6: you know, and so I think anytime you get player
- 6:57Speaker 6: like that back on the field, absolutely it was there.
- 7:00Speaker 6: It's subconsciously or consciously. I mean it's you're excited to
- 7:03Speaker 6: watch that and you're excited to rally behind that and
- 7:06Speaker 6: see where he can take you.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It was funny because when Joe was out and people
- 7:11Speaker 1: started to speculate, well, when could he possibly come back,
- 7:14Speaker 1: one thing that you heard a lot of skeptics say was, well,
- 7:16Speaker 1: he doesn't play defense. Yeah, I mean there's still scoring
- 7:19Speaker 1: plenty of points. He doesn't play defense. Well, that's true,
- 7:22Speaker 1: but when he comes back, the defense gets five takeaways.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So there was an impact on the defense for the
- 7:29Speaker 1: exact reasons that you guys are talking about. He lifts
- 7:32Speaker 1: all boats.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Yeah he does.
- 7:34Speaker 5: I mean, you know, defense really the thing you're thinking, Oh,
- 7:37Speaker 5: I'm not going to be out in the field as
- 7:38Speaker 5: many snaps as we've been because Joe's going to keep
- 7:40Speaker 5: the offense out in the football field. They're going to
- 7:42Speaker 5: convert first downs, they're going to move the chains, they're
- 7:45Speaker 5: gonna be on the football field running a bunch of
- 7:47Speaker 5: snaps and then like you said, you know, forcing the turnovers,
- 7:50Speaker 5: taking possessions away from the opponent, and giving extras to
- 7:53Speaker 5: Joe Burrow. That's a good formula to win a lot
- 7:56Speaker 5: of football games, with no doubt about it.
- 7:58Speaker 3: It goes to I think it credits what the defense
- 8:03Speaker 3: has been building to because they've put the work in
- 8:05Speaker 3: as well. Al Golden has put the work in. But again,
- 8:08Speaker 3: nine walks back in and you feel like, you know what,
- 8:11Speaker 3: we gave up a touchdown there, but we're gonna get
- 8:13Speaker 3: it back, so let's work on the next possession. Let's
- 8:16Speaker 3: look ahead. I thought it was remarkable just the scene
- 8:19Speaker 3: after the game with not only Joe Burrow, but so
- 8:22Speaker 3: many of his teammates. You don't see that much, see
- 8:24Speaker 3: a couple guys out there. Zach Taylor's probably in the
- 8:26Speaker 3: locker room, like where's my team? But like I thought,
- 8:30Speaker 3: I thought, for a private guy like Joe is, you
- 8:33Speaker 3: got for the first time to kind of see the
- 8:34Speaker 3: raw emotion of how much it meant to him and
- 8:37Speaker 3: the work it took to get back on the field,
- 8:40Speaker 3: the mental strain of what an injury does to you.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Because you're alone, you're away from the guys and to
- 8:46Speaker 3: see that just general excitement and I thought at times
- 8:50Speaker 3: emotion from Joe Burrow when he's doing that post game
- 8:53Speaker 3: of man, it's just I'm happy to be here. I'm
- 8:57Speaker 3: grateful to be here. And I think it gives validation
- 9:00Speaker 3: of the hard work it took mentally and physically for
- 9:02Speaker 3: him to get back, and then to celebrate that moment
- 9:04Speaker 3: with his teammates out on the field is an awesome,
- 9:08Speaker 3: awesome moment. And their mindset's the right one. Like right
- 9:11Speaker 3: when Joe came back, what he said, we know we
- 9:13Speaker 3: gotta do. We know what we got to do, right,
- 9:15Speaker 3: We got to go win every game. Yep, you know
- 9:17Speaker 3: the mindset's there. You know, no one's working harder to
- 9:20Speaker 3: get there than Joe Burrow. And each win that happens. Man,
- 9:24Speaker 3: these guys they believe more and more they do.
- 9:26Speaker 5: And you know the other people you have to give
- 9:28Speaker 5: credit to is the trainers and medical staff. I mean
- 9:32Speaker 5: they were instrumental. I mean he obviously gave them. He
- 9:34Speaker 5: was effusive in his praise to those guys, how much
- 9:37Speaker 5: they meant to him coming back in a short period
- 9:40Speaker 5: of time, and he came back, you know, days and
- 9:43Speaker 5: days early, not just a little bit of time, but
- 9:46Speaker 5: a significant period of time earlier than people had thought
- 9:49Speaker 5: and anticipated.
- 9:50Speaker 4: And you know, the.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Brace, the foot brace that they constructed, they designed and
- 9:56Speaker 5: put together for him so he couldn't bend that toe
- 9:59Speaker 5: and move that that turf tow which it was a
- 10:02Speaker 5: Grade three, which is significant. Man, that's painful. Joe's tough, dude. Man.
- 10:06Speaker 4: He sucked it up. He sucked it up and played.
- 10:08Speaker 4: He played in some pain.
- 10:09Speaker 5: And I just think that, you know, there's a lot
- 10:12Speaker 5: of people that need to take a bow and take
- 10:14Speaker 5: some credit. And uh, the medical staff, the training staff,
- 10:18Speaker 5: his parents, I mean, his dad, his dad, jamians mother,
- 10:21Speaker 5: I mean they're they're all over it too. And and
- 10:24Speaker 5: total support. Joe Burrow definitely has, you know, a support system,
- 10:28Speaker 5: there's no question about it. A big, a big support system.
- 10:31Speaker 5: But he has to do the work and and he
- 10:35Speaker 5: he's a grinder and he grounded out. Man, he did
- 10:38Speaker 5: the work.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's lonely. Oh yeah, that rehab process, Yeah, it's hard,
- 10:42Speaker 3: and you played through injuries before. The training staff, to
- 10:46Speaker 3: me is the most vital YEP. Coaches they're gonna say everything.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Coaches want you back. Yeah, hey, when you're coming back,
- 10:51Speaker 3: we need you, we need players. Hey, when you we
- 10:53Speaker 3: need you out here, you got friends, you got family.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Like when I went through my injuries, I knew that
- 10:59Speaker 3: I could trust the training staff that they were gonna
- 11:01Speaker 3: be honest with you, right right right. And as much
- 11:03Speaker 3: as everyone says, you got Joe Burrow in the locker room,
- 11:06Speaker 3: people want you back as quick as possible. But I knew,
- 11:08Speaker 3: and I know Joe like Joe knows if he asked
- 11:11Speaker 3: the training staff, can I do it, and they say, yes,
- 11:14Speaker 3: that's all you need. It's not your buddies, it's not
- 11:17Speaker 3: your teammates, it's not everyone else that that needs you back, right,
- 11:20Speaker 3: It's that trust in a training staff. You tell me
- 11:22Speaker 3: I'm good, and I'm good to go right right.
- 11:24Speaker 5: And I think trust is a big word. And respect,
- 11:28Speaker 5: I mean there has to be a level of respect
- 11:29Speaker 5: there both ways. And I know the training staff respects
- 11:32Speaker 5: the hell out of Joe Burrow. I mean they think he's,
- 11:34Speaker 5: you know, one of one. He's a unique cat, and
- 11:37Speaker 5: no question about that. He definitely respects. Joey Bose and
- 11:41Speaker 5: everybody else know that was involved in his his rehab
- 11:44Speaker 5: and coming back as quickly as he did. So it
- 11:46Speaker 5: was It was good to see and they did a
- 11:49Speaker 5: hell of a job from top to bottom.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And Joe, Joe worked.
- 11:54Speaker 7: Man.
- 11:54Speaker 4: One thing about Joe, he works his ass off.
- 11:56Speaker 5: He's a worker Bee he's not He's not shy to
- 11:59Speaker 5: roll up sleeves and get after it.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Man.
- 12:01Speaker 1: All right, speaking of comebacks, you reference t Higgins earlier.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Let's get to the Kettering health injury report. It came
- 12:07Speaker 1: out earlier today. T was limited at practice today as
- 12:10Speaker 1: he comes back from a concussion. Todz Brooks, same thing.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That is the normal process now for Wednesday. If you're
- 12:18Speaker 1: coming back from a concussion, typically if you're limited, you'll
- 12:21Speaker 1: ramp up the activity a little bit more the next day,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and hopefully that is a good sign that he's going
- 12:26Speaker 1: to be able to play on Sunday in Buffalo. I
- 12:28Speaker 1: would expect him to.
- 12:30Speaker 5: I agree with you one hundred thousand percent, Dan. I
- 12:32Speaker 5: think I'd be shocked if he doesn't. Honestly, I think
- 12:35Speaker 5: he's gonna play. It's an important football game. It's a
- 12:38Speaker 5: good football team, multimo. I mean, the Buffalo Bills are
- 12:41Speaker 5: definitely a team that's got weapons. They got plenty of weapons.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Gotta win this game. They got to run the table.
- 12:48Speaker 5: They know they have to run the table. There's very
- 12:49Speaker 5: little margin for her. There's no margin for her. So
- 12:53Speaker 5: I do think that those guys will be back and
- 12:56Speaker 5: playing in Buffalo.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So we agree on that. We know that Trey Hendrick
- 13:00Speaker 1: is going to be out. He did not practice today.
- 13:02Speaker 1: As for Buffalo, their starting tackles did not play last
- 13:05Speaker 1: week against Pittsburgh. Both of those guys were limited today.
- 13:09Speaker 1: The left tackle Dion Dawkins, he's coming back from a concussion.
- 13:13Speaker 1: The right tackle Spencer Brown, he's coming back from his
- 13:16Speaker 1: shoulder injury. Joey Bosa, the great pass rusher, did not
- 13:20Speaker 1: practice today. He's dealing with a hamstring wrist Combo. Dalton Kinka,
- 13:25Speaker 1: the tight end, missed the last several games. He was
- 13:28Speaker 1: limited today. He's coming back from a hamstring knee issue.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Where do you guys stand. If you could pick somebody
- 13:35Speaker 1: that you don't want to come back for Buffalo this week,
- 13:38Speaker 1: who would it be?
- 13:39Speaker 3: If Dean Dawkins is listening, I wouldn't push the concussion,
- 13:41Speaker 3: take another week off, relaxed. Yeah, very important to me.
- 13:45Speaker 3: It's Joey bos He leaves the team in sacks. He's
- 13:48Speaker 3: their sock leader and He's a guy that's dealt with
- 13:50Speaker 3: injuries a lot of his career. Hamstrings are always a
- 13:52Speaker 3: tricky thing. It's it's going to be cold. I that's
- 13:55Speaker 3: that's a tricky injury. And he was labeled as week
- 13:58Speaker 3: to week by Sean McDermott. That that changes a lot, right,
- 14:02Speaker 3: if you're talking about getting T. Higgins back and then
- 14:05Speaker 3: possibly not having Joey Bosa on that side. Chase Brown
- 14:09Speaker 3: not only the running game, he was seven for seven
- 14:11Speaker 3: targets and receptions another hundred yard day. We know what
- 14:13Speaker 3: Jamar Chase is. T Higgins gets pair back up with
- 14:16Speaker 3: number nine, and they lose a piece of that pass rush.
- 14:20Speaker 3: It's it's all systems go for this Bengals offense.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I think losing that piece of pass rush you just
- 14:25Speaker 5: mentioned is huge because what it does is it diminishes
- 14:28Speaker 5: the entire thing. You know, Now all of a sudden,
- 14:30Speaker 5: other guys are gonna have to step up and do things.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Are they capable of it? Are they are they being
- 14:35Speaker 5: asked to do things outside of their limitation, outside of
- 14:38Speaker 5: what they can do?
- 14:40Speaker 4: You know?
- 14:41Speaker 5: Now, do we have to scheme differently? Do we have
- 14:43Speaker 5: to think about blitzing more because we don't have our
- 14:46Speaker 5: best pass.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Rush and you got to blitz Joe. Yeah, good luck, right,
- 14:49Speaker 4: Joe'll pick you apart.
- 14:50Speaker 5: So uh, he gets a pre snap read and it's
- 14:53Speaker 5: over man that balls out and it's and it's it's completed.
- 14:56Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean, I I do think.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I think, honestly, the Buffalo Bill's injury are more of
- 15:01Speaker 5: a concern I would think to Buffalo than the Bengals
- 15:04Speaker 5: injuries are of the Cincinnati Bengals done.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I like it that.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Way, and I want Dalton Kincaid out. Yeah. Yeah. Josh
- 15:11Speaker 1: Allen has thrown ten picks this year. None With Dalton
- 15:14Speaker 1: Kincaid on the field. They're like a different passing attack
- 15:17Speaker 1: when he's out there. Kincaid has missed the Bill's last
- 15:20Speaker 1: three games and was listed as limited at Thursday's practice.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The Bills enter Sunday's game with a number one rushing
- 15:27Speaker 1: attack in the NFL. They averaged one hundred and fifty
- 15:30Speaker 1: six rushing yards per game, and that's basically what the
- 15:34Speaker 1: Bengals defense has been giving up. The average is one
- 15:37Speaker 1: fifty three, but the Bengals have held their last three
- 15:41Speaker 1: opponents to well below that average as the defense has
- 15:45Speaker 1: drastically improved. I discussed that and more with defensive tackle
- 15:50Speaker 1: BJ Hill. Bj. You've been Joe burrows teammate for five years.
- 15:55Speaker 1: When a guy comes back ahead of schedule from an injury,
- 15:58Speaker 1: what statement does that make to it teammates?
- 16:01Speaker 7: It means a lot, man, even guys who fight through
- 16:03Speaker 7: injuries each and every day, seeing them out there, practicing,
- 16:07Speaker 7: seeing them out on the games, meaning that they care
- 16:09Speaker 7: for the guys. Some instance like you can't be out there,
- 16:13Speaker 7: but guys that you know try to be out there,
- 16:15Speaker 7: try to do everything's possible to get out there. It
- 16:17Speaker 7: means a lot to the teammates.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So I was watching the postgame celebration after the victory
- 16:23Speaker 1: in Baltimore. The big tur ducan spread out there on
- 16:26Speaker 1: the field. You were right in the middle of the celebration,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and then it looked like you bailed before getting a bite.
- 16:32Speaker 1: What happened.
- 16:34Speaker 4: I was just ready to go go home.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Man.
- 16:36Speaker 7: It was a long two days for us, and I
- 16:38Speaker 7: was like, you know what, let me get in the
- 16:40Speaker 7: locker room, take a shower, and I'm ready to go
- 16:42Speaker 7: home to get to my family.
- 16:44Speaker 1: You got the feast the next night.
- 16:45Speaker 7: I did got up early, even though we got back
- 16:47Speaker 7: of late, got up early, and I smoked a turkey.
- 16:52Speaker 1: All right, good to know. We're visiting with bj Hill.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Over the last three weeks, the defense has given up
- 16:57Speaker 1: an average of seventeen point six points. That would be
- 17:00Speaker 1: number three in the NFL if it was for the
- 17:02Speaker 1: entire season. What are the biggest reasons for the defensive improvement.
- 17:06Speaker 7: You gotta do the little things right. This was really
- 17:09Speaker 7: was killing us at the beginning of the year or
- 17:11Speaker 7: halfway through year whatever. That was a little stretch. We
- 17:14Speaker 7: just want to do in the little things right. And
- 17:15Speaker 7: we came back and just skip on work and keep
- 17:18Speaker 7: on tipping at the things that we had to get better.
- 17:20Speaker 7: And we have a point that we turned around. We
- 17:22Speaker 7: just gotta keep the moment and going, keep on playing defense,
- 17:24Speaker 7: communicating and just playing as a team. If we keep
- 17:28Speaker 7: on doing that, man, I think a lot of things
- 17:30Speaker 7: to take care of itself.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Are you seeing the light come on for some of
- 17:34Speaker 1: your younger teammates.
- 17:35Speaker 7: Oh, for sure, especially the two regular linebackers, sitting them
- 17:40Speaker 7: fly around and having fun, being more confident, just being.
- 17:43Speaker 8: There in their role.
- 17:45Speaker 7: It's a lot when you come in have to play
- 17:47Speaker 7: a lot for NFL team and you can see how
- 17:52Speaker 7: they matured and take advantage of each and every rep
- 17:55Speaker 7: even in practice, the way they communicate, way they come
- 17:57Speaker 7: back to work. Actually just actually older got even asking
- 18:00Speaker 7: me questions like I'm like, all right, I think you're
- 18:04Speaker 7: gonna You're gonna be special in this league. Just just
- 18:05Speaker 7: keep on working, just doing the right things of whole
- 18:07Speaker 7: things over and over and never get tired of it.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Do you think linebacker is especially tough for a rookie.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I mean Barrett Carter for examples, wearing the green dot.
- 18:16Speaker 1: He's the guy communicating without golden.
- 18:18Speaker 7: I think so. I think it's tough that in safety too,
- 18:22Speaker 7: playing playing those positions, especially mentally, you got a lot
- 18:26Speaker 7: on your plate. They're playing de tackle is a rookie,
- 18:29Speaker 7: I think it's very hard too. But playing a lot,
- 18:31Speaker 7: but you got a lot on your play. You gotta
- 18:32Speaker 7: get the calls, you gotta make sure you know what
- 18:34Speaker 7: you're doing other people are doing, make you in the
- 18:35Speaker 7: right spot, give me the right calls, the checks, and
- 18:39Speaker 7: just everything you got. You definitely got a lot on
- 18:41Speaker 7: the play, and you can see the way they just
- 18:43Speaker 7: improved over the last couple of weeks. Man's is very
- 18:47Speaker 7: exciting to see.
- 18:48Speaker 1: We're chatting with b J. Hill. Joseph Osai might have
- 18:51Speaker 1: had the best game of his career in Baltimore. Two sacks,
- 18:54Speaker 1: four quarterback hits, and a forced fumble. I remember you
- 18:57Speaker 1: raved about his effort when I asked you about him
- 19:00Speaker 1: during training camp. How excited were you to see him
- 19:03Speaker 1: have a game like that on Thanksgiving Night.
- 19:05Speaker 7: I'd love to see my guys ball, no matter what
- 19:08Speaker 7: room they I love seeing Joseph just knowing the hard
- 19:10Speaker 7: work that he put in over the shoot the last
- 19:13Speaker 7: couple of years, even this off seasons, The way he
- 19:15Speaker 7: just attacked each and every day.
- 19:18Speaker 8: It shoot me.
- 19:19Speaker 7: I'm excited for him, man. It's it's really great to
- 19:21Speaker 7: see you love to see guys have success on the field.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You were voted one of three captains, win of three
- 19:27Speaker 1: defensive captains prior to the season, but you're kind of
- 19:29Speaker 1: the last man standing. Logan Wilson was traded. Trey's been hurt,
- 19:33Speaker 1: He's been rehabbing. He really really hasn't been in the
- 19:36Speaker 1: mix of late. How has that impacted you?
- 19:40Speaker 7: Just I just want to come out here and be
- 19:41Speaker 7: the best leader I can be. Push your guys, communicate
- 19:45Speaker 7: to him, just you know, make sure we all on
- 19:47Speaker 7: the same on the same road. Make sure we all
- 19:50Speaker 7: go in the same direction. I think that's the most
- 19:52Speaker 7: important part. And make sure that we're prexing practicing right now,
- 19:55Speaker 7: just going through the motions, if the if that's a
- 19:57Speaker 7: walk through, full speed period, no matter what it is,
- 20:00Speaker 7: make sure we're always doing to the things right because
- 20:02Speaker 7: it's always going to show up on the field how
- 20:03Speaker 7: we practice, no matter like I said, it was four
- 20:05Speaker 7: s feed or not. So I I embraced it.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Man.
- 20:08Speaker 7: At one point, it was kind of hard. I felt
- 20:11Speaker 7: like a lot was throwing on me, but I embracing out.
- 20:13Speaker 7: I love. I love coming to work and pushing them.
- 20:18Speaker 7: So they're pushing me to the that lived to that standard,
- 20:20Speaker 7: to play good ball, to be the best meEach in
- 20:23Speaker 7: every week.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You face the Bills in Buffalo this Sunday, you have
- 20:26Speaker 1: faced Josh Allen three times before in your career, you
- 20:28Speaker 1: have sacked him once. What stands out to you about
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Bill's QB.
- 20:34Speaker 7: Man, He's everything you want as a quarterback. He's one
- 20:37Speaker 7: of the best in the league. He's big, he's strong,
- 20:39Speaker 7: he's fast, got a good arm. He's one of the
- 20:44Speaker 7: guys that's like I said, he's one of the best
- 20:46Speaker 7: to do it in the league. Right now, we got
- 20:49Speaker 7: a hands full, but I believe we got the defense
- 20:52Speaker 7: the in in our room, the dude need to do
- 20:55Speaker 7: to win the game.
- 20:55Speaker 1: What do you remember about that sack?
- 20:59Speaker 7: I think I second more than you. Don't really count playoffs,
- 21:02Speaker 7: but you know saying we might go out the playoffs.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Think I got them?
- 21:06Speaker 7: Think I got them twice?
- 21:08Speaker 8: I think so my apology.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Now, remember I believe he's miss Samue run a text game.
- 21:14Speaker 7: I got vertical. Sam rapped around on a sacking.
- 21:17Speaker 8: All right.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Buffalo ran for two hundred and forty nine yards last
- 21:21Speaker 1: week and their win over Pittsburgh. James Cook has seven
- 21:23Speaker 1: one hundred yard games this year. What must do you
- 21:26Speaker 1: do to slow down that Buffalo rushing attack on Sunday?
- 21:29Speaker 4: He can do it all.
- 21:30Speaker 7: Catch out of the backfield, run it make you miss,
- 21:32Speaker 7: hard to tackle strong, Like I said, we just got
- 21:35Speaker 7: to swim to the ball. Get all hats to the ball.
- 21:37Speaker 7: Tackle somebody missed the tackle, Max, sure somebody right there
- 21:41Speaker 7: hitting them right after. I'll be play technically sound. Make
- 21:45Speaker 7: sure we're standing our guess and playing good football together.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Build a wall so you know it's hard for him
- 21:50Speaker 7: to to you know, cutting them gaps and stuff like that.
- 21:52Speaker 7: So we played good football for what we can do
- 21:55Speaker 7: we need to do.
- 21:56Speaker 1: There's still a path to win the AFC North, but
- 21:58Speaker 1: it's narrow. If you win this week, does it really
- 22:03Speaker 1: feel possible? Does it take a couple of wins Buffalo
- 22:06Speaker 1: and Baltimore. Where do you stand on the realistic chances
- 22:10Speaker 1: of still pulling this off? Uh?
- 22:12Speaker 7: My mind right now, just one game at the time,
- 22:15Speaker 7: I look ahead. I'll just come on and play our
- 22:16Speaker 7: bis ball. Whatever happens happens. And I feel like if
- 22:19Speaker 7: we put our bits for Ford on defensive sideyball, I
- 22:22Speaker 7: no offense is gonna take do their part. I who
- 22:24Speaker 7: do our side on the defenses I'll take care of.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So appreciate your time. Best to luck against the Bills.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Oh thank you.

- 22:51Speaker 1: watch the game on TV this week, you'll hear an
- 22:53Speaker 1: announcing crew that has not been assigned to a Bengals
- 22:56Speaker 1: game this year. The analyst will be Greg Oles, who
- 23:00Speaker 1: was number one on the totem pole at Fox before
- 23:03Speaker 1: Tom Brady decided to get into broadcasting, and the play
- 23:07Speaker 1: by play announcer on Sunday made this memorable call on
- 23:12Speaker 1: November one in Toronto, bounces.
- 23:19Speaker 9: To back that chap, you gotta come out the Dodger
- 23:23Speaker 9: Standta Bedwin back to back titles.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Joe Davis called one of the greatest world series of
- 23:31Speaker 1: all time earlier this year, and he will be in
- 23:34Speaker 1: the booth this Sunday when the Bengals take on the
- 23:36Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills. Joe, it's Joe Burrow versus Josh Allen. What
- 23:40Speaker 1: was your initial reaction when Joe Burrow came back from
- 23:43Speaker 1: his injury way ahead of schedule And how did you
- 23:46Speaker 1: think he played on Thanksgiving Night?
- 23:48Speaker 9: Yeah, the first thing was, Okay, this changes the Bengals,
- 23:52Speaker 9: even before we saw how the game went. First half
- 23:56Speaker 9: shook the rust off. I think he was the first
- 23:58Speaker 9: one to even say that. But second half, it's like,
- 24:00Speaker 9: my goodness, you talk about a guy completely changing the mood,
- 24:04Speaker 9: changing the tone around a team, and for us selfishly
- 24:07Speaker 9: going into this game, you know, we got the assignment
- 24:10Speaker 9: the week before that, crossing our fingers that he looked
- 24:13Speaker 9: good in his return, and he did obviously, and we
- 24:16Speaker 9: are extra fired up after seeing it.
- 24:19Speaker 1: So, Joe, it's the first time this year that you
- 24:21Speaker 1: and Greg Olsen will call a Bengals game. What about Cincinnati?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Are you eager to see whether it's an individual or
- 24:28Speaker 1: something about the team in general?
- 24:30Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it's just a continuation of Burrow, And
- 24:33Speaker 9: you know, I know the playoff hopes are baint and
- 24:36Speaker 9: they got to be perfect and they got to get
- 24:38Speaker 9: some help. But if there's anybody that injects enough hope
- 24:41Speaker 9: to further that storyline, it is Burrow and going there
- 24:46Speaker 9: and facing Josh Allen. That being head to head, it's
- 24:49Speaker 9: hard to beat that in terms of big stars going
- 24:51Speaker 9: head to head on an NFL Sunday.
- 24:54Speaker 1: The Bengals defense has had its ups and downs this year.
- 24:57Speaker 1: We acknowledge that, but they've been pretty good the last
- 24:59Speaker 1: few weeks. They've given up seventeen point six points over
- 25:03Speaker 1: their last three games, got five takeaways in the win
- 25:06Speaker 1: over Baltimore on Thanksgiving Night? What must this defense do
- 25:10Speaker 1: to have success against Buffalo.
- 25:12Speaker 9: Normally, Dan, you'd go, you'd say, okay, yeah, they've been
- 25:15Speaker 9: better lately, but let's see what happens when they go
- 25:17Speaker 9: in and face Josh Allen and the Bills. But Bills
- 25:20Speaker 9: offense has not been the same. They're running the ball
- 25:23Speaker 9: really well, ran all over the Steelers, but the passing
- 25:26Speaker 9: game just has not been there at all. You know,
- 25:29Speaker 9: top running game in the NFL, but the passing game
- 25:33Speaker 9: recent years, Josh Allen has been able, even though they
- 25:35Speaker 9: haven't had a number one target necessarily has been able
- 25:40Speaker 9: to overcome that paper over it. It's just not quite
- 25:43Speaker 9: been the same this year. So in years past, you'd say, hey,
- 25:46Speaker 9: the Bills, if they could just stop the right teams,
- 25:49Speaker 9: they're going to break through. Now the Bills are asking
- 25:51Speaker 9: the question can they find offense? So to your question
- 25:54Speaker 9: about that Bengals defense, I think it's a chance for
- 25:57Speaker 9: them to continue the momentum we saw them build against
- 25:59Speaker 9: obviously slouch in Baltimore, what they did against Lamar in
- 26:02Speaker 9: that group.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Well, let me follow up on that. Because the Bills
- 26:06Speaker 1: are eight and four. If the season ended today, they
- 26:08Speaker 1: would be a playoff team, but they're not quite as
- 26:11Speaker 1: dominant as they've been. Josh Allen got sacked eight times
- 26:14Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago. What do you think are
- 26:16Speaker 1: the Bills' biggest issues on the overall team?
- 26:21Speaker 9: I look at the offense in the passing game. They
- 26:23Speaker 9: just haven't been able to throw the ball down field,
- 26:25Speaker 9: and normally that's a huge strength of Josh Allen's. There's
- 26:28Speaker 9: just not much around him in terms of targets. Part
- 26:32Speaker 9: of that's been injuries, but massive disappointments. Josh Palmer coming
- 26:36Speaker 9: over in his first season of a new contract, injured
- 26:39Speaker 9: and not very good when he has been on the field.
- 26:41Speaker 9: Keon Coleman, who they drafted last year hope would turn
- 26:44Speaker 9: into a big play threat. He was a healthy scratch
- 26:47Speaker 9: for a couple of games for off the field stuff,
- 26:49Speaker 9: showed up late to meetings, and when he's been in
- 26:51Speaker 9: the field he's been a disappointment. So these guys that
- 26:54Speaker 9: are counting on at receiver have either been injured or disappointing.
- 26:58Speaker 9: Dalton kincaid his favorite time end has been hurt the
- 27:01Speaker 9: last few weeks. So that passing game, which is it's
- 27:04Speaker 9: crazy to think about Josh Allen the Bills passing game.
- 27:07Speaker 9: They have issues with that, but that right now, for me,
- 27:10Speaker 9: is the biggest question.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's been a few years, but Joe Burrow is two
- 27:15Speaker 1: and oh against the Buffalo Bills. He's two and oh
- 27:18Speaker 1: head to head against Josh Allen. One of those two
- 27:20Speaker 1: wins was a playoff victory in Buffalo on a snowy day,
- 27:25Speaker 1: which very few teams have been able to pull off
- 27:27Speaker 1: against the Bills. Do you think it's a motivating factor
- 27:31Speaker 1: for Buffalo this week? The Joe Burrow and the Bengals
- 27:34Speaker 1: have that history against Josh Allen and the Bills.
- 27:37Speaker 9: I'm sure that it'll be on their minds. But a
- 27:40Speaker 9: lot like the Bengals, the Bills are sitting there with
- 27:42Speaker 9: not much room for air, So I think they have
- 27:44Speaker 9: plenty of motivations just when it comes to the playoff picture,
- 27:47Speaker 9: without needing any extra stimulation from who they're facing. They
- 27:51Speaker 9: you know, they've won five consecutive division titles. They're two
- 27:54Speaker 9: and a half games behind the Patriots, so they've got
- 27:57Speaker 9: to be perfect when it comes to the division. They've
- 27:59Speaker 9: got to get a little help. Patriots got to lose
- 28:01Speaker 9: an extra game, so.
- 28:02Speaker 8: It's kind of similar.
- 28:04Speaker 9: Not as desperate as the Bengals are, but there's plenty
- 28:07Speaker 9: of motivation just simply looking at the standings without needing
- 28:10Speaker 9: to look across and see the guy that's heard him before.
- 28:13Speaker 1: The AFC North is usually one of the NFL's top
- 28:17Speaker 1: divisions at the moment, this year, nobody's over five hundred,
- 28:21Speaker 1: So the Bengals are technically still alive. What do you
- 28:25Speaker 1: think of the division? Do you think that there's an
- 28:27Speaker 1: obvious favorite, and in your mind, do the Bengals still
- 28:31Speaker 1: have a fighting chance?
- 28:32Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 28:32Speaker 9: This kind of brings full circle our conversation here. I
- 28:35Speaker 9: think when you combine Joe Burrow's return with that division,
- 28:40Speaker 9: who the heck wants it? Nobody has taken command of it.
- 28:43Speaker 9: If there's ever a chance for a team that's sitting
- 28:46Speaker 9: in the position that the Bengals are, yeah, I think
- 28:49Speaker 9: you know, if you get a mathematical chance and then
- 28:52Speaker 9: you factor in those two things, sure, and I know
- 28:55Speaker 9: we're going to ride that. That adds meaning to our
- 28:57Speaker 9: broadcast and adds meaning to a game that's already going
- 29:00Speaker 9: to be exciting just because of the stars.
- 29:03Speaker 1: You broadcast Dodgers games during the summer you've got bright
- 29:06Speaker 1: sunshine behind you in California. Are you prepared for wintry
- 29:11Speaker 1: conditions this Sunday in Orchard Park, New York.
- 29:15Speaker 8: No, I am so soft.
- 29:17Speaker 9: Dan grew up in Michigan, and after about a week
- 29:20Speaker 9: of living out here, I was as soft as they come.
- 29:23Speaker 9: So we've had some good training in the last couple
- 29:25Speaker 9: of weeks. We're in Green Bay two weeks ago. We
- 29:27Speaker 9: were in Seattle last week where it was only low forties.
- 29:31Speaker 9: This is another level of cold, though, So now I'm
- 29:33Speaker 9: gonna have about fourteen layers on.
- 29:34Speaker 8: I got no pride, I don't care.
- 29:36Speaker 9: I don't like being cold and distracted, so I'll be
- 29:38Speaker 9: so bundled up. I won't even bring a tie. That
- 29:41Speaker 9: would be our little secret because nobody's gonna know. I'm
- 29:44Speaker 9: gonna have a scarf, a couple stars, giant coat.
- 29:47Speaker 8: Yeah, but I'll be warm.
- 29:49Speaker 1: The George Gastanza puffy jacket. I'm sure that will look good.
- 29:52Speaker 1: That will look good. I mentioned off the top, Joe
- 29:54Speaker 1: that you had the opportunity to call a historically good
- 29:57Speaker 1: world series this year and you match them, which I
- 30:01Speaker 1: think is about the ultimate compliment that one broadcaster can
- 30:04Speaker 1: pay to another. What was that moment like for you?
- 30:08Speaker 1: Are those seven games like for you because it's the
- 30:11Speaker 1: type of thing that every broadcaster dreams of doing.
- 30:14Speaker 9: Yeah, it was, to be honest with you, I'll see
- 30:18Speaker 9: that the first six games, it was incredible time in
- 30:22Speaker 9: my life. I felt really good about the broadcast. We
- 30:24Speaker 9: were having Game six as good as I've ever felt.
- 30:27Speaker 9: Game seven is kind of this blur that I don't
- 30:30Speaker 9: really know how to feel about. So much happened there
- 30:34Speaker 9: in the final few winnings of that game, right down
- 30:36Speaker 9: to know, we're putting things in perspective about about Toronto
- 30:41Speaker 9: ending their World series drought, and then bang, Miguel Rojas happens,
- 30:46Speaker 9: and a million other things happened in the hour that
- 30:48Speaker 9: follows that. So it went from six games of this
- 30:52Speaker 9: is great and I feel like we're on it, to
- 30:54Speaker 9: what the heck just happened and we were kind of
- 30:57Speaker 9: holding on for dear life. I'm sure you've had games
- 30:59Speaker 9: like that too in your career where you're like, I
- 31:01Speaker 9: don't know what just happened.
- 31:02Speaker 8: I don't know what I said. I hope that I said.
- 31:05Speaker 9: Something that was ascertainable and that made sense and that
- 31:09Speaker 9: helped match the moment but man, it was kind of
- 31:12Speaker 9: kind of two series within one the first six games
- 31:15Speaker 9: and then that seventh game seems to stand alone in
- 31:17Speaker 9: my mind.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Well, I can promise you that you nailed it. You
- 31:21Speaker 1: added to my enjoyment of the World Series. Congratulations on that.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Look forward to hearing your call on Sunday in Buffalo.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Thanks for your time.
- 31:29Speaker 8: Thanks Stan, It'll be good to see you.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Finally, it's time for this week's Know the Faux segment.
- 31:34Speaker 1: The radio analyst for the Buffalo Bills played for the
- 31:37Speaker 1: team for nine years, but he's a Cincinnati guy through
- 31:40Speaker 1: and through, having graduated from Elder High School. It's former
- 31:44Speaker 1: Pro Bowl center Eric Wood who talked about the Bills
- 31:48Speaker 1: up and down season when he joined Dave Lapham and
- 31:51Speaker 1: me on the Bengals Game Plan Show.
- 31:54Speaker 2: He started off four to zero and the expectations were
- 31:56Speaker 2: high heading in and it was going to be a
- 31:59Speaker 2: Josh Allen MB repeat. It's a Super Bowl favorites heading
- 32:04Speaker 2: into the season, and it's been a roller coaster rode.
- 32:06Speaker 2: The biggest issues that they've faced defensively has been the
- 32:09Speaker 2: run defense. It played well that we could go against
- 32:12Speaker 2: the Steelers, but it's been an up and down season.
- 32:14Speaker 2: As far as defending the run, that's been the biggest
- 32:17Speaker 2: issue with the defense, and a big issue there is
- 32:19Speaker 2: just simply tackling.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Now.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I give them somewhat of a pass for some of
- 32:24Speaker 2: their struggles based upon the amount of injuries on the
- 32:26Speaker 2: defensive side of the ball, but the run defense has
- 32:30Speaker 2: struggled very bad at times this year. And then offensively,
- 32:35Speaker 2: turnovers is probably our biggest issue. The passing game hasn't
- 32:40Speaker 2: come alive like maybe you'd hoped, But there's guys in
- 32:44Speaker 2: the receiving corps that have been injured throughout the season,
- 32:47Speaker 2: and they've leaned so heavily into the run game that
- 32:50Speaker 2: at times they haven't needed to get the pass game going.
- 32:52Speaker 2: But the common denominator and all four of their losses
- 32:55Speaker 2: have been three turnovers by the offense. And it's really
- 32:58Speaker 2: hurt us.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Wow, three turnovers in every single loss. That's that's that's
- 33:04Speaker 5: pretty amazing. That's a that's something new, and.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Dave, you know this like that that third turnover at
- 33:11Speaker 2: times has come at the end of a game where
- 33:13Speaker 2: you know you have to press because you're coming back.
- 33:15Speaker 2: So not all turnovers are created equal, but that has
- 33:18Speaker 2: been the theme in all of their losses this year.
- 33:22Speaker 5: So it's it's been an up and down season obviously
- 33:25Speaker 5: for for a Buffalo, the season start off gangbusters and
- 33:29Speaker 5: then have had some difficulties. Is it that been the
- 33:32Speaker 5: case for Josh Allen as well? Has the season basically
- 33:35Speaker 5: gone as Josh Allen has played?
- 33:38Speaker 2: I would say it's it's more of a team effort.
- 33:42Speaker 2: You know, they're trying to rely less and less on
- 33:45Speaker 2: Josh doing it all himself. Now this is December football.
- 33:48Speaker 2: If need be, they'll dial up the red zone runs
- 33:51Speaker 2: with him, and there's gonna be times where you're gonna
- 33:53Speaker 2: see the old Josh Allen improv improvational improvisational skills. There
- 33:59Speaker 2: you go, there's education coming out, but you'll see him
- 34:03Speaker 2: improvise out on the field and do some of the
- 34:05Speaker 2: heroics that we've seen over time. But you know this
- 34:09Speaker 2: is you know, Sean mcdermoy came from Carolina, so did
- 34:12Speaker 2: Brandon bean our GM. They saw how Cam Newton deteriorated
- 34:16Speaker 2: towards the end based upon the amount of hits that
- 34:18Speaker 2: he took, and so it's been a concerted effort over
- 34:20Speaker 2: these last few years to get him to take less
- 34:23Speaker 2: and less hits and so Yeah, I think there's been
- 34:26Speaker 2: games where Josh hasn't played his best and the turnovers
- 34:29Speaker 2: have been his fault. And then there's other times where
- 34:32Speaker 2: you know, it's either been the run defense or you
- 34:35Speaker 2: have guys not him, turning the football over with fumbles,
- 34:40Speaker 2: and so you know, ultimately Josh is the heart and
- 34:44Speaker 2: soul of the team and it's going to, you know,
- 34:47Speaker 2: fall on his shoulders. But in those four losses, it
- 34:50Speaker 2: hasn't all been on him.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Bill's radio analyst and former Pro Bowl center Eric Wood
- 34:55Speaker 1: is our guest. The Bills have had their share of
- 34:58Speaker 1: injuries there. Offensive tackles did not play last week against Pittsburgh.
- 35:03Speaker 1: They still ran the ball for nearly two hundred and
- 35:05Speaker 1: fifty yards ere there excellent tight end Dalton Kincaid has
- 35:08Speaker 1: been out for a few weeks with a tender hamstring.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Who is it most important for Buffalo to get back?
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if Dalton Kinkaid can come back, that
- 35:18Speaker 2: would be huge. Our passing numbers are dramatically better when
- 35:23Speaker 2: he's been on the field this season. I believe Josh
- 35:25Speaker 2: Allen's quarterback rating goes up about fifteen with him on
- 35:29Speaker 2: the field, which seems extreme for a tight end, but
- 35:32Speaker 2: we drafted him in the first round out of Utah
- 35:34Speaker 2: three years ago, three seasons ago. Now to be a receiver.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I mean, he's essentially a bigger slot receiver for us
- 35:42Speaker 2: out there and maybe our best pure separator that we
- 35:47Speaker 2: bring on the field each week. And so if he's
- 35:49Speaker 2: able to play against the Vengels, I'd say that would
- 35:52Speaker 2: be probably the one that I would take. Now, if
- 35:55Speaker 2: Hendrickson was going to play, I might say one of
- 35:58Speaker 2: the two tackles are spect Deon Dawkins are left tackle.
- 36:01Speaker 2: But with him likely ruled out, which is a very
- 36:05Speaker 2: interesting situation. I followed along with it. But with him
- 36:08Speaker 2: ruled out, a gimme kincaid if we can get one
- 36:11Speaker 2: of them back.
- 36:13Speaker 5: So, looking at the Buffalo Bills offensive line, you played
- 36:17Speaker 5: that position so well, Pro Bowl player, nine year veteran player,
- 36:21Speaker 5: almost played a decade. What the offensive line has been
- 36:26Speaker 5: inconsistent as well? With their with their play, with their
- 36:29Speaker 5: level of play. What is the biggest reason for it?
- 36:31Speaker 5: Do you think?
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they've had a good year. They got
- 36:36Speaker 2: exploited against the Houston Texans on Thursday night. Football Spencer
- 36:40Speaker 2: Brown was playing with the herd shoulder and Dion Dawkins
- 36:43Speaker 2: got got a concussion.
- 36:45Speaker 8: In the game.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I'll just say that he got examined on the sideline.
- 36:49Speaker 2: They put him back in obviously wasn't playing like himself,
- 36:51Speaker 2: and then he was out the Pittsburghers game because of
- 36:53Speaker 2: the concussion suffered in that game. We also used a
- 36:57Speaker 2: lot of five man protections in that game and throughout
- 36:59Speaker 2: the season. Joe Brady, our offensive coordinator, has a lot
- 37:02Speaker 2: of confidence in this offensive line to carry the unit,
- 37:05Speaker 2: to run the football behind them consistently, and then we
- 37:08Speaker 2: have not used a lot of chips or running back
- 37:11Speaker 2: help in the passing game because he's got a lot
- 37:14Speaker 2: of faith in them. That came to a head on
- 37:16Speaker 2: against the Texans when we gave up eight sacks. And
- 37:20Speaker 2: that's where I said, you know that I wouldn't put
- 37:23Speaker 2: the entire blame of the Texans game on Josh Allen,
- 37:26Speaker 2: being that he was under dress most of the game.
- 37:29Speaker 2: And so I feel like this unit has performed exceptionally
- 37:32Speaker 2: well throughout the season, minus I would say that Texans game.
- 37:37Speaker 5: So what do you think Eric is the big key
- 37:40Speaker 5: to the to the game? I mean, Buffalo needs to win,
- 37:44Speaker 5: the Bengals need to win it's a musk game for
- 37:46Speaker 5: both football teams. What do you think is the is
- 37:49Speaker 5: the biggest key for the Buffalo Bills to sustain their
- 37:53Speaker 5: season and to give them victory in Cincinnati.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say can painting Joe Burrow and especially
- 38:02Speaker 2: Jamar Chase. And that doesn't mean you shut those guys
- 38:05Speaker 2: completely down. They're too good of a connection to completely
- 38:07Speaker 2: shut them down. But Jamar Chase got the most yards
- 38:10Speaker 2: after catch in the NFL when he does catch the football,
- 38:13Speaker 2: be able to tackle him limit those yards after the catch.
- 38:16Speaker 2: And then Chase Brown, whether it's you know, receiving or rushing,
- 38:21Speaker 2: he's what is he got over one hundred yards from
- 38:23Speaker 2: scrimmage the last three games. Sorry sorry, Yeah, six in
- 38:30Speaker 2: a row. Extremely impressive. You got to be able to
- 38:32Speaker 2: tackle him as well. He's he's low to the ground,
- 38:35Speaker 2: he's he's a great football player. And then on the
- 38:40Speaker 2: offensive side of the ball, I think this Bills team
- 38:42Speaker 2: should be able to establish the run against the Bengals,
- 38:44Speaker 2: and then it's the play action off of that, and
- 38:46Speaker 2: can you connect down the field to make them pay
- 38:50Speaker 2: if they're going to bring their safeties down And that's
- 38:52Speaker 2: been a lot of the Bills recipe for success this year. Offensively,
- 38:56Speaker 2: it's established the run and then takes your take your
- 38:59Speaker 2: shots off of those plays.
- 39:01Speaker 1: How's the new stadium looking, going up right next to
- 39:04Speaker 1: high Mark?
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's it's actually incredible. I got to do a tour
- 39:08Speaker 2: of it about two weeks ago. With the two main
- 39:11Speaker 2: architects and the attention to detail, and you know, the
- 39:15Speaker 2: amenities that you're going to now have in the new
- 39:18Speaker 2: high Mark Stadium is going to be really special Old
- 39:22Speaker 2: high Mark Stadium these last three games, if we don't
- 39:24Speaker 2: host a home playoff game, if these are the last three,
- 39:26Speaker 2: I'm going to cherish them. So much history there and
- 39:29Speaker 2: I love that building. And uh, you guys know we
- 39:32Speaker 2: get we get one of the better radio setups in
- 39:35Speaker 2: the league. As far as size of the booth and
- 39:38Speaker 2: our location.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Yah'll be terrible.
- 39:42Speaker 8: It won't be terrible.
- 39:42Speaker 2: We'll just feel a little bit higher up in the
- 39:44Speaker 2: new stadium. They still gave us some respect in that regard.
- 39:48Speaker 2: But you know, I appreciate the nostalgia of old high
- 39:52Speaker 2: Mark Stadium. And I've never gone to a game truly
- 39:55Speaker 2: as a spectator, but I've heard some of the amenities
- 39:58Speaker 2: are pretty rough over there.
- 40:00Speaker 1: The new stadium features a one point seven billion dollar
- 40:04Speaker 1: price tag, and despite Buffalo's notoriously bad weather, will not
- 40:08Speaker 1: have a roof. It will feature a large canopy covering
- 40:13Speaker 1: about two thirds of the seats designed to protect fans
- 40:17Speaker 1: from the elements, but the Bills wanted to keep the
- 40:20Speaker 1: field exposed to the weather, which fits the traditional Buffalo
- 40:24Speaker 1: football experience. Here's a quick invitation to join lapp In
- 40:28Speaker 1: Wayne box Miller for the Bengals pep Rally show on Friday.
- 40:31Speaker 1: They'll be at the on the Rhine Eatery, the food
- 40:34Speaker 1: hall on the second floor above the downtown Kroger on
- 40:37Speaker 1: Friday from two thirty to five thirty, and their scheduled
- 40:40Speaker 1: guest in the final hour will be rookie linebacker Barrett Carter.
