- 0:27SPEAKER_00: You want to use your creative gifts.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: You might even want to build a part-time or a full-time business with your writing.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And those are all exciting goals.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: We all have big dreams and big goals when it comes to our writing, and of course that's a great thing.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Why is it then that oftentimes we feel deflated every time we think about building a writing habit?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: We know that a writing habit is a bridge to all the things that we want as a writer.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Of course, marketing, relationships, handling your money wisely, all those things and more are vital to our success, but none of those things really matter if we're not actually producing the work.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So the problem is that whenever we think about building writing habits, it's just not very exciting.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: We think of a habit as something that we have to do rather than something that we get to do, something that leads us to everything else that we want.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: So over the next couple of weeks on our short daily episodes, we're going to dust off the cobwebs from the concept of building a writing habit.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And rather than being something that's just dry and dusty, a writing habit is absolutely something that can change your life.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: When you think of a writing habit as an adventure where you're venturing out into the unknown to accomplish great things, I think it takes on a whole new and a much more exciting meaning.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: As creatives, we naturally resist routines, but we have to think of writing as a blue-collar job, just like carpentry, plumbing, doing legal work, or anything else that requires regular, sustained labor.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, we're no different.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: This means the more that we can get into a routine with our writing, the more that will get accomplished.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Without a habit, you'll never get that blog built, you'll never finish that book you've been thinking about for all these years, and you'll certainly never build a successful writing business.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: A great writing habit is the pathway to everything that you've dreamed about as a writer.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So here's today's question: How could a writing habit help you achieve your dreams as a writer?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is an excerpt from our brand new ebook, How to Build a Writing Habit.
