- 0:00Speaker 1: Very good point.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Turning now to this.
- 0:03Speaker 3: Radical Democrat Rob Sand. He's a disaster for government. And
- 0:09Speaker 3: by the way, he wants to raise your taxes by $ 7, 500.
- 0:12Speaker 3: He wants to take away your guns and your Second Amendment.
- 0:16Speaker 3: You need to go vote for a businessman who will
- 0:19Speaker 3: cut your property taxes very substantially, lower your gas prices,
- 0:23Speaker 3: support our police and keep criminals behind bars. Your next governor,
- 0:28Speaker 3: Zach Lane.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Iowa will elect a new governor in just 10 days
- 0:33Speaker 2: in the most expensive race in state history. Over 200,000
- 0:37Speaker 2: early votes have already been cast. Our power rankings have
- 0:40Speaker 2: the race-leaning Democrat as Rob Sand holds a lead over
- 0:43Speaker 2: Republican Zach Lane. But the race is still up for grabs. Now,
- 0:48Speaker 2: diesel prices are over $ 6 a gallon, and they remain
- 0:51Speaker 2: a top concern for farmers in the state. But President
- 0:54Speaker 2: Trump is promising $ 8 billion in relief, and they are
- 0:58Speaker 2: standing by the president.
- 1:00Speaker 4: People have short memories. They look at high fuel prices.
- 1:03Speaker 4: You know, I grew up on a farm.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm from a farm family. Every farmer I know supports Trump.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I'm sure a lot of them don't like the high
- 1:09Speaker 4: gas prices and whatever, but I look at it like
- 1:12Speaker 4: as soon as we get this war over with, they're
- 1:14Speaker 4: going to go down and it's worth it.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Which party do you think can bring down those high prices?
- 1:19Speaker 2: I'm not worried about the high prices at this point.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I'm more worried about how our kids are getting mishandled
- 1:25Speaker 1: in schools.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, joining us now for tonight's big close-up is Iowa
- 1:30Speaker 2: GOP gubernatorial candidate Zach Lane. Thanks so much for being here.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You know, this is the most expensive race in state history,
- 1:37Speaker 2: and Republicans have held the governor's office in Iowa since 2011.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So what would you say to people who are concerned
- 1:44Speaker 2: that you are down in the polls against your Democratic opponent?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Well, first, I'd say that, you know, my opponent has
- 1:51Speaker 4: been spending more money on this race than anybody in
- 1:53Speaker 4: the history of the state of Iowa for governor's races.
- 1:55Speaker 4: He's from a billionaire family. They're trying to buy this election.
- 1:58Speaker 4: He did the same thing in his last election for
- 2:00Speaker 4: auditor outspent the Republican 30 to one. But I think
- 2:03Speaker 4: that as we go around the state, we've held seven
- 2:05Speaker 4: events in the past two days. We are just full
- 2:07Speaker 4: force going at this for the for November 3rd. We're
- 2:10Speaker 4: seeing more and more consolidation. We're seeing more and more
- 2:13Speaker 4: people come to our team. And we believe that this
- 2:15Speaker 4: is going to be a race that we're going to
- 2:16Speaker 4: win on November 3rd. We truly do.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, kind of piggybacking on that, the Senate
- 2:20Speaker 5: race doesn't seem to be as decidedly red as we
- 2:24Speaker 5: probably thought it was going into this season as well.
- 2:25Speaker 5: So I don't know if you're getting much help there,
- 2:27Speaker 5: if that's something that you're leaning into, going down the ballot,
- 2:30Speaker 5: voting Republican. But how do you separate your message from
- 2:34Speaker 5: maybe the national Republican message? What is it that Iowans
- 2:37Speaker 5: want to hear that you can bring to the table
- 2:40Speaker 5: as governor, kind of irrespective of national policy?
- 2:45Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a great point because this is what
- 2:46Speaker 4: our campaign's been about since the very beginning. I've never
- 2:49Speaker 4: ran for office before. I'm not a career politician. I
- 2:51Speaker 4: wasn't planning to run for this office. I saw the
- 2:54Speaker 4: issues that we're facing as a state, and they're serious.
- 2:56Speaker 4: We have the fastest rate of new cancer in the
- 2:58Speaker 4: country in Iowa. We have family farms have died off
- 3:01Speaker 4: at the rate of 10,000 over the past 20 years.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Public education, which you guys probably know, Iowa used to
- 3:05Speaker 4: be number one in the nation. We're now in the
- 3:07Speaker 4: bottom half. and our kids are leaving faster than 46
- 3:09Speaker 4: other states. This has been my message from the very beginning.
- 3:12Speaker 4: You know, we pulled off probably the biggest upset in
- 3:14Speaker 4: the country in the primary, where we actually beat a
- 3:17Speaker 4: Trump-endorsed candidate. We were the first ones to do it.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And the reason we did was because we had the
- 3:22Speaker 4: grassroots ground support, and people saw our message was about
- 3:25Speaker 4: Iowa first. It's what's been since the very beginning, and
- 3:27Speaker 4: we're continuing that.
- 3:29Speaker 6: You know, I know you said that your opponent is
- 3:33Speaker 6: spending a lot of money and this is the most
- 3:35Speaker 6: expensive race going. But in a reliably Republican state, why
- 3:40Speaker 6: do you think you're nine points down right now in
- 3:42Speaker 6: the polls?
- 3:44Speaker 4: Well, first off, I don't think we're nine points down.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Not even close to that. My opponent doesn't think we're
- 3:47Speaker 4: nine points down. You know, Iowa is ranked as the
- 3:50Speaker 4: most difficult state in the country to get Republicans to
- 3:53Speaker 4: take polls. They're just tired of it. They're tired of
- 3:55Speaker 4: all of this. Iowa gets very sick of these things.
- 3:58Speaker 4: And I'll tell you, we are not seeing this on
- 4:00Speaker 4: the ground. But, you know, the big thing that we're
- 4:02Speaker 4: pushing for, we do need— we need the Trump supporters to
- 4:04Speaker 4: get out and vote. And we believe they are. The
- 4:06Speaker 4: early vote numbers show that they are. And we believe
- 4:09Speaker 4: that we are truly going to win this race. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 4: we pulled off the biggest upset in the primary. I'm
- 4:13Speaker 4: the underdog here. I was the underdog then. I'm happy
- 4:15Speaker 4: to pull this off, and we see the excitement building
- 4:17Speaker 4: behind our campaign.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Sir, we're 10 days out at this point. I feel
- 4:20Speaker 1: like we've been counting since, say, 350 days out, but
- 4:23Speaker 1: now this is truly the home stretch. What is your
- 4:26Speaker 1: closing argument with voting beginning next— well, obviously, it's begun already,
- 4:31Speaker 1: but people going to the polls en masse next Tuesday,
- 4:34Speaker 1: a week from Tuesday?
- 4:36Speaker 4: Well, I think in Iowa, we're seeing the same thing
- 4:38Speaker 4: we see across the country. We have very radically liberal
- 4:41Speaker 4: people running for office in the Democrat Party that are
- 4:43Speaker 4: pretending to be moderates. You know, Talrico in Texas is
- 4:45Speaker 4: doing this. Spanberger did it in Virginia. You know, the
- 4:48Speaker 4: people you just mentioned about the future of the Democratic
- 4:50Speaker 4: Party and how they won't get them out, whether it's
- 4:52Speaker 4: Newsom or Pritzker, these are people who support my opponent.
- 4:55Speaker 4: My opponent is very radical on his views, whether it's,
- 4:58Speaker 4: you know, wanting illegal immigrants to have benefits, amnesty, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 4: whether it's the transgenderism in elementary schools, he supports these things.
- 5:04Speaker 4: And so the message I've been bringing is very different.
- 5:06Speaker 4: We have to protect and defend the culture of the state.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Look what's going on in France, what's happened in Minneapolis,
- 5:11Speaker 4: what's happened in Illinois. Iowa needs to protect the culture,
- 5:14Speaker 4: and that's what I'm fighting for. So, you know, when
- 5:16Speaker 4: you're running against a liberal billionaire, you have to do
- 5:18Speaker 4: everything you can to raise all the funds you need.
- 5:20Speaker 4: And actually, for that point, I need every one of
- 5:22Speaker 4: your listeners, ZachLane.com, jump in, chip in some funds, help
- 5:26Speaker 4: us cross the line here. But it is about protecting
- 5:29Speaker 4: the culture and solving the long-term issues we're facing as
- 5:31Speaker 4: a state. Iowa truly matters in the national stage, and
- 5:34Speaker 4: we are going to fight to keep this seat.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Well, Zach Lane, thank you so much for joining us tonight.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 5:41Speaker 2: All right, Joey, lots of great stuff there. One of
- 5:44Speaker 2: the last things that he said that I thought was
- 5:45Speaker 2: very true is he talked about how difficult it is
- 5:48Speaker 2: to get Republicans to respond to the polls. And I
- 5:50Speaker 2: think that this is what they're discovering in a lot
- 5:53Speaker 2: of these deep red states, whether it's Texas, Iowa, Ohio.
- 5:56Speaker 2: How much do you think that that factors in here?
- 5:58Speaker 5: So I'm not a pollster, but I do kind of
- 6:00Speaker 5: like to analyze things as part of my nature, I guess,
- 6:02Speaker 5: of being a bond tech.
- 6:03Speaker 4: How does that work?
- 6:04Speaker 3: How do you build that?
- 6:05Speaker 5: And if I had a pollster sitting here, I'd say,
- 6:07Speaker 5: are you factoring that in? So do you put some
- 6:10Speaker 5: sort of correction or some sort of handicap to bring
- 6:13Speaker 5: the Republican— vote up knowing that conservatives seem to be less,
- 6:18Speaker 5: I don't know, open to some random person texting you
- 6:21Speaker 5: and calling you and asking you your most intimate opinions
- 6:23Speaker 5: on things. I mean, it just feels very intrusive.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You don't want to see how many missed calls I have.
- 6:28Speaker 5: It's insane. I mean, it's insane. A lot of my
- 6:31Speaker 5: friends sign me up for Democrat fundraisers. So I'm getting
- 6:33Speaker 5: them from both sides. But with that being said, I mean,
- 6:36Speaker 5: you know, I'm not following this race very closely. I
- 6:38Speaker 5: don't live in Iowa, and we're looking at national politics
- 6:41Speaker 5: usually on this show. He kind of comes across like
- 6:43Speaker 5: those Iowa Hawkeyes to me. You know, slow and steady
- 6:45Speaker 5: wins the race, nothing flashy, not throwing big passes, but
- 6:48Speaker 5: carry the ball across the goal line. You know, just
- 6:51Speaker 5: get it there and control the clock. Those types of
- 6:54Speaker 5: grassroots campaigns, I think, are the ones that will be
- 6:56Speaker 5: able to surprise us in a few places across the country.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Because at the end of the day, all the work
- 7:01Speaker 5: that President Trump is doing and all that he's taking,
- 7:04Speaker 5: people at some point have to pay attention to what's
- 7:06Speaker 5: happening around them. And when it comes to their governor
- 7:08Speaker 5: and their state officials, that's important.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Well, and Anita, Zach Lane already did surprise a lot
- 7:12Speaker 2: of Republicans when he beat the Trump-endorsed primary candidate. So
- 7:16Speaker 2: he also has that going for him, that he has
- 7:18Speaker 2: built a grassroots coalition that was able to beat the
- 7:21Speaker 2: president's own candidate.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right. And I was just going to say that,
- 7:24Speaker 6: that he was not the president's choice in the primary.
- 7:26Speaker 6: A fellow by the name of Randy Feenstra was the
- 7:29Speaker 6: Trump-endorsed candidate.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Mr.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Lane beat him. So he does have that going for him. But,
- 7:36Speaker 6: you know, you wonder, does that have any effect on this?
- 7:38Speaker 6: I don't know. He is behind in the polls. But maybe,
- 7:42Speaker 6: you know, maybe there is that hidden vote that the
- 7:45Speaker 6: polls are not picking up. So we're going to have
- 7:47Speaker 6: to see.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And Joe, one of the things that you saw him
- 7:50Speaker 2: try to do was tie his opponent to some of
- 7:52Speaker 2: the other bigger national Democrats who are pushing extreme policies.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But isn't that a good strategy in that shouldn't all
- 7:59Speaker 2: of these individual Democratic candidates be forced to go on
- 8:01Speaker 2: record and explain how they're actually different than the leading
- 8:05Speaker 2: figures of the party right now? Explain how your policies
- 8:08Speaker 2: are different. Do you disagree with people like Abdul El-Sayed?
- 8:11Speaker 1: I think the bumper sticker should have been from the
- 8:13Speaker 1: beginning for every Republican running, regardless of whether you're running
- 8:16Speaker 1: in Iowa against a so-called moderate. Communism versus common sense.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Which do you choose? Communism versus chaos. And if you
- 8:23Speaker 1: could paint the Democratic Party as one that's going off
- 8:25Speaker 1: that cliff, then you could be successful. But when I
- 8:28Speaker 1: hear polls in Iowa, I go back to 2024. I
- 8:32Speaker 1: remember Ann Seltzer.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Kamala by 13.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yes, the gold standard when she said that, yeah, Kamala.
- 8:37Speaker 1: was up in frigging Iowa, all right, which is whiter
- 8:40Speaker 1: than a Hallmark movie. There is no way that that
- 8:43Speaker 1: was going to happen. I even called some bookers here,
- 8:45Speaker 1: and I'm just, please put me on the air the
- 8:46Speaker 1: day after the election so I can dunk on that
- 8:48Speaker 1: poll specifically. And she had to retire because Trump won
- 8:51Speaker 1: the state by 13. So again, we talked about Texas.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Trump won by two touchdowns. He won there by 13
- 8:55Speaker 1: points in 2024. If you're telling me that that's suddenly
- 8:58Speaker 1: been erased just because diesel prices are up, I'm not
- 9:00Speaker 1: saying that it hasn't been certainly bitten into, but I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think this is a neck and neck race, given that
- 9:05Speaker 1: Iowa has always gone red.
