- 0:03Speaker 1: Why was it she eating pussy at this episode? The bosses? Anything?
- 0:11Speaker 1: But why did we have to go through that or
- 0:13Speaker 1: hook up with one of those girls and then get
- 0:14Speaker 1: sued ver sexual flossment?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Like that's a great PLOTLINEU.
- 0:19Speaker 1: She's sheen ami no ma ma yo?
- 0:27Speaker 3: What is your child trauma?
- 0:30Speaker 1: I am.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Your's going down the floor like.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Round.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to Like a Virgin, the show where we give
- 0:49Speaker 1: yesterday's pop culture today's takes.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'm Rose DomU and I'm Fran Toronto.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Okay, so how do we feel about the eight and
- 0:57Speaker 1: of it all? Because I you know, I wasn't sure
- 1:05Speaker 1: if the show was trying to make it look like
- 1:10Speaker 1: they were moving too fast or trying to romanticize how
- 1:15Speaker 1: fast they were moving, But either way, I thought they
- 1:20Speaker 1: had really good chemistry and it bred is like believable
- 1:25Speaker 1: to me of two people picking up a relationship for
- 1:28Speaker 1: the third time and really just speed running it.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It's one hundred percent real, right. The realism of the show,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I think is sometimes strong suit and more often than
- 1:39Speaker 2: not the thing that makes it really boring, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: like Aiden coming into the fold right now and Carrie
- 1:45Speaker 2: calling them immediately a wei so to speak. As Sema said,
- 1:49Speaker 2: She's like, look, you're a we now, which I think
- 1:50Speaker 2: was a really effective line, like this is a real
- 1:53Speaker 2: quarrel that real friends go through. And I was like,
- 1:56Speaker 2: everything about this feels earned. My issue with aid In
- 2:00Speaker 2: and other plot loin plot points like him PLoP plot loins.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Let's say that everything about Aiden and what happened, I'm
- 2:12Speaker 2: so fried. Can you even hear? You can kind of
- 2:15Speaker 2: hear in my voice that I I lost it a
- 2:18Speaker 2: little throat, Yeah, I lost it during all invasion, I
- 2:21Speaker 2: kind of lout giving.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I actually think.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's even better, Like I think I sound a little swaffed,
- 2:26Speaker 2: like a little you know what I mean, like just swuffed.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Well you sound clock here, Oh wow wow now we okay, okay,
- 2:36Speaker 4: But much like what you said, like what you said
- 2:38Speaker 4: was extremely unpredictable, and I just I wish the show
- 2:41Speaker 4: were unpredictable.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Everything about Aiden in the show can be predicted. I
- 2:46Speaker 2: could write now how he's going to be written off,
- 2:49Speaker 2: what's going to happen between him and Carry, what the
- 2:51Speaker 2: core tensions are going to be. I can figure out,
- 2:54Speaker 2: like based on what Miranda is doing at the HRC,
- 2:57Speaker 2: I can predict what's going to happen there. I feel
- 3:00Speaker 2: like Charlotte getting a job back in gallery. Stuff that's
- 3:03Speaker 2: extremely that we could have predicted that Slash probably did
- 3:06Speaker 2: predict that. Like all of these things are things that
- 3:10Speaker 2: we we know enough about the characters to actually really
- 3:13Speaker 2: lay out the plotline. Same thing with Jada is like
- 3:16Speaker 2: we knew how they were gonna go.
- 3:18Speaker 3: You predicted the animal rescue shelter.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh my god, Well that I could never have predicted.
- 3:24Speaker 3: But that's the thing, is like this is your unpredictable Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 3: at least this week, it only existed in service of
- 3:31Speaker 3: Carrie's plot line, Like there were no solo scenes of
- 3:36Speaker 3: cha except for that one where they were wandering around
- 3:38Speaker 3: Carrie's apartment, which I did kind of enjoy that because
- 3:41Speaker 3: and I almost wanted more of it of Chae being.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Like who the fuck is this woman? Yeah that I'm
- 3:47Speaker 1: weird randomly friends with why at her apartment.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And like Carriere correcting people's like for their pronoun usage,
- 3:54Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my god, Like again, it's like
- 3:56Speaker 2: a good ally for dummies, like a ward.
- 3:59Speaker 1: But like I don't I don't understand why that you
- 4:02Speaker 1: have such a problem with that though, because like it's
- 4:05Speaker 1: good that she corrected.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It is good. It's just why is this in the scene. So, like,
- 4:11Speaker 2: if it's in the scene, if the writers have put
- 4:14Speaker 2: the intent to put this in the scene, that means
- 4:16Speaker 2: they are trying to say something about pronoun courtesy and
- 4:22Speaker 2: how to address people properly in a workplace. And that
- 4:25Speaker 2: doesn't matter. And this show, why would anybody care? As
- 4:31Speaker 2: a Sex and the City viewer, it has nothing to
- 4:33Speaker 2: do with the Sex and the City.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Scene about pronouns, you know.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think I think that line actually like
- 4:41Speaker 1: mostly existed for the joke of Aiden lying into the
- 4:46Speaker 1: neighbor and saying they them, which I think actually was
- 4:50Speaker 1: a funny payoff for that moment.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I didn't think it was that funny. But if it
- 4:54Speaker 2: was just for that joke, like, that's fine. I I
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'm rounding up to a point here about just predictability,
- 5:01Speaker 2: And for me, it's like predictability and also the kind
- 5:05Speaker 2: of tea the pedantic nature that I'm talking about, Like
- 5:10Speaker 2: like in the original Sex and the City, the show
- 5:13Speaker 2: can be very teaserly, right, Like, the show can be
- 5:16Speaker 2: very like these things are good and these these things
- 5:18Speaker 2: are bad, and this is what the show believes like
- 5:20Speaker 2: the show had core tenants that it kind of ran
- 5:23Speaker 2: by and believed in. And I think that it's okay
- 5:26Speaker 2: for a show to believe in something or to be
- 5:29Speaker 2: a kind of how to blah blah blah for dummies.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But in the previous iteration of the show, the things
- 5:34Speaker 2: it was teaching about were sex, intimacy, misogyny, like how
- 5:41Speaker 2: to make it in a certain kind of workplace as
- 5:43Speaker 2: a woman, how to be messy while also like sticking
- 5:48Speaker 2: the landing. Like those are things that I think made
- 5:51Speaker 2: the show really exciting. And the unpredictable elements were the sex, right,
- 5:56Speaker 2: I feel like we just don't have the unpredictable sexual
- 6:01Speaker 2: rockecy grompy kind of elements of in just like that.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Like when Sima was in bed with that guy and
- 6:08Speaker 2: he pulled out a penis pump, I was like, this
- 6:10Speaker 2: is the show, Like I never could have predicted that
- 6:13Speaker 2: this guy would have pulled out a penis pump, right.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Even though that's a plotline from like nineteen ninety YXT.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yes, yes it's fine, but it's but it still could
- 6:20Speaker 2: not have been predicted. And that is the show to me,
- 6:22Speaker 2: That's what the show I should be doing.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I get what you mean. And I do think the
- 6:27Speaker 1: moment where this episode succeeded the most and where it
- 6:31Speaker 1: felt the most like the show I wanted it to be,
- 6:35Speaker 1: was also the moment that I could have predicted the least,
- 6:38Speaker 1: which was Carrie asking Miranda that question was big, a
- 6:41Speaker 1: big mistake? Like that was something I didn't see coming
- 6:45Speaker 1: and like, should essentially be like the central question of
- 6:51Speaker 1: this season, Carrie is entire relationship with Aiden and should
- 6:56Speaker 1: fan outwards to impact the other character, you know, like
- 7:01Speaker 1: of It is really exciting to have a storyline in
- 7:06Speaker 1: which this woman whose husband died like gets back together
- 7:08Speaker 1: with an old love and then thinks like, oh, was
- 7:12Speaker 1: my whole life a mistake? Should I just have been
- 7:14Speaker 1: with this guy all along? Like that is a worthwhile
- 7:17Speaker 1: question for this show to ponder, and I do wish
- 7:22Speaker 1: it was more interested in that and less interested in,
- 7:27Speaker 1: you know, Miranda trying to be a good ally or
- 7:30Speaker 1: whatever the fuck?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't care about big so I
- 7:35Speaker 2: care less about that question, but I agree it would
- 7:37Speaker 2: be way more interesting than whatever it is they are
- 7:39Speaker 2: spending time on. I just think that it's too it's
- 7:44Speaker 2: still too self helpy, like the self helpy quality to
- 7:49Speaker 2: the large majority of the plotlines in every episode really
- 7:54Speaker 2: bums me out. I do still feel like it's very predictable.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And Carrie reconciling her relationship with Aiden now, the rekindling
- 8:02Speaker 2: with Now looks like in the context of Big is
- 8:05Speaker 2: still trodden territory.
- 8:07Speaker 1: To me.
- 8:07Speaker 2: It's like in the first scene when she's laying in
- 8:10Speaker 2: bed with Aiden and she like propped up, she like
- 8:13Speaker 2: puts her feet on his chest, which is so hot.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I like wanted to be like I just wanted to
- 8:18Speaker 2: be like I wanted to Yes, I wanted to be
- 8:21Speaker 2: like Aaron, put your whole put her whole Fern, Aaron,
- 8:25Speaker 2: whatever the fuck his name is, Aiden, Aiden, put her
- 8:28Speaker 2: whole foot in your mouth, in your mouth. I was like,
- 8:33Speaker 2: if he if he like put his head down, put
- 8:36Speaker 2: his entire mouth over her foot, but you feet listen.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Sucked.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Sucked, sucked. And then the rest of the episode is
- 8:46Speaker 2: Carrie being like, I can't believe Big suck my toes.
- 8:49Speaker 2: That is an episode of TV. I would be on
- 8:52Speaker 2: the edge of my seat f I.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But that's just not the show that I don't care.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I don't care. And also, you know, you know, her
- 9:00Speaker 1: feet are gnarly from wearing all those heels as yeah, honey,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I her toes are jacked if you want to hear
- 9:10Speaker 1: all of our thoughts. But men just like that go
- 9:13Speaker 1: to patroon dot com, slash like a virgin and become
- 9:15Speaker 1: a patron
