Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. My problem is
- 0:05I've got my pointer in the middle of the screen and I need to move
- 0:09it to the left, but my mouse is over on the left hand side
- 0:13of the pad, and if I go any further to the left, it's
- 0:16going to go off the pad anyway, So you could give me a call.
- 0:20I appreciate it. I'll wait till you until I hear from you.
- 0:23Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor and I'm Justin
- 0:28Lemmi. Thanks for joining us. Sean is on assignment this week. Yeah,
- 0:33late night assignment, if you will. Yeah. So, I guess
- 0:36Notre Dame, where you know he works, it does a big thing every
- 0:39year and it's like kind of a welcome day with it's like twenty four hours
- 0:44of just nothing but what Notre Dame does on their their TV channel, and
- 0:50that's what he's doing. Yeah. No, I do not envy him in
- 0:54the least. Yeah. He told me he was gonna be working until I
- 0:58think midnight tonight and then they've got to come back early tomorrow morning and continue
- 1:02it. Poor guy. Sorry. Yeah no, And you know it's crazy
- 1:08because they had nothing but network problems. This week, they've been dealing with
- 1:12all kinds of issues with servers, and luckily they got it all put together
- 1:17in time. But that had to be that's like hair pulling time. Oh
- 1:21totally, yeah, I mean, I mean I've dealt with that in the
- 1:23past. You know, with servers going offline. It always seems in the
- 1:27world of it, it always seems like your systems go offline at the worst
- 1:34possible time. Of course, they don't wait till when it's like just downtime,
- 1:38I'm gonna be needed time to go to sleep exactly. Oh you need
- 1:41it today? Oh yeah, guess what Windows update? All right, So
- 1:46I wanted to address something. There's a couple of things we were going to
- 1:49talk about. I wanted to address. Have you ever had justin because you
- 1:53provide it support. You've done that, I've done that. Have you ever
- 1:57had a client that over troubleshoots to the point where they get themselves in trouble
- 2:04to the point where you come in and you fix it by pushing one button
- 2:07and it gets fixed the first part of your question, No, I don't
- 2:13even know what that means. Over troubleshooting. Yeah, no, a user
- 2:16is never over troubleshooted. Really, However, yeah, I have on many
- 2:23occasions said, you know, somebody hits me up and says, hey,
- 2:28blah blah blah's broken. I can't fix this. I need this right now.
- 2:30And I go there and I'm like, oh, I pressed one button
- 2:32and it works again, and I'm like it's user error. But no,
- 2:38no, I've had that. But no, I have never I've never had
- 2:40a user that has called me and says, hey, I have a problem.
- 2:45I've done this, this, this, this, and this. Nothing's
- 2:47worked every single time. It's like, I have a problem. I don't
- 2:52know what's going on. Fix it now, right, that's better. I
- 2:54think that's better. Right. Well, well, I mean from an IT
- 3:00standpoint, you know, being myself an IT, I try to troubleshoot as
- 3:05much as I possibly can before I have to make a phone call to somebody.
- 3:08Now, granted, my phone calls that I have to make are probably
- 3:14too. Like my local ISP or even at work, you know, the
- 3:19ISP goes down, I'll troubleshoot. I'll say, all right, we've we've
- 3:23we've attempted to reboot the computer. We've attempted to reboot the router the switch,
- 3:30network switches, maybe even the firewall if there's one in play, right,
- 3:35we have you know, diagnosed blah blah blah, and it basically it
- 3:39shows that it's upstream from the router, so it's got to be on ste
- 3:44on your side. I'll do all that because I know how to do it.
- 3:46I'm an IT person. Yeah, but for the most part, no,
- 3:50No, people call me, you know, just normal users. They'll
- 3:53just be like, it's not working, fix it great, Yeah, I'll
- 3:59be right there. I had a situation recently, and this could serve as
- 4:03a cautionary tail for those that get into a situation and realize, oh,
- 4:10it's not working, so let me unplug it and plug it into something else.
- 4:15And then they plug it into something else and it's still not working.
- 4:19So then they leave it that way and say, no, it doesn't work
- 4:23anymore, when basically they plugged it into a dead outlet, which it was
- 4:30a device that was plugged in to another outlet for some reason. This device
- 4:35was left by this person's desk from the previous IT guy, and they didn't
- 4:41unplug it and just take it didn't work anymore. It powered up, it
- 4:44got a light, but there was no juice going through it, so it
- 4:47was dead. It was basically a dead device. So they had a computer
- 4:50it wouldn't start because they couldn't find the power button on it. It was
- 4:55an all in one, and those could be a little difficult. If you
- 4:57get one of those all in one, make sure you familiar with those.
- 5:00But they they then took the power plug, thinking, Okay, if we
- 5:03plug it in, it'll power up the computer. That's not gonna that's not
- 5:08You still have to find the power button on the computer to get it to
- 5:12start up on the all one, and they did, but they plugged it
- 5:15into dead outland. At that point they said it's dead and I'm telling him,
- 5:17no, it's not dead. It works. See if they would have
- 5:20just left it the way it was and then called me, I would have
- 5:25said, oh, the power button is not on the back. They were
- 5:28pushing a little plastic indentation that was on the back That wasn't a button.
- 5:32It was just for decoration, thinking, you know, like you have the
- 5:35Dell button on your Yeah. Yeah. They were pushing that thinking that was
- 5:40a power button and it wasn't. Well, the power button is hidden away
- 5:45underneath the monitor and that's that's that's a problem, Like, why why would
- 5:48you do that? Why would you do that? Bad design? Yeah,
- 5:51bad design totally. I mean I've had I've had situations where people have called
- 5:55me and said, hey, you know, even even this year with uh,
- 5:59you know, us ramping up water World getting ready for the summer season.
- 6:01You know, they're they're putting computers back in place. And a lot
- 6:05of times the people that are putting these computers back in place are part time
- 6:10you know workers, they're teenagers, you know, they don't know anything about
- 6:13this. So they'd like, oh, it's got to have an Internet connection.
- 6:15Let me just plug it into this little Ethernet jack here. They don't
- 6:18know that that's not the right jack to plug it into, right. So
- 6:23a lot of times we'll get a call, you know, and it'd be
- 6:26like, hey, well we can't access this website or this website. Well,
- 6:30I mean, you've got an Internet connection, but you're not plugged into
- 6:32the right one. You're not in the right v land, you're not you
- 6:35know, you don't have the right IP address, blah blah blah. And
- 6:38it's just simple, I just walk up there and I'll just plug it into
- 6:41the right you know, port and it works. I'll tell you. One
- 6:45of the biggest advancements when it comes to fixing computers in the late eighties nineties
- 6:49to where we have today is the smartphone. You know how many times I
- 6:55will go to somebody's you know place or or you know business, and I
- 7:00will go ahead and do the steps. I will capture that on the smartphone
- 7:05taking photos. Here's how you do this. Here's what this is. Here's
- 7:09how you do this. Nobody ever listens, but it's good, so they
- 7:12have it so that way they have Oh I can look and see, you
- 7:15know, I mean, this is the day, this is the day and
- 7:16age. Come on, I had to figure out how to put the oil
- 7:19in the car the other day. But go to YouTube. I mean that's
- 7:23well, I mean sure, I get that. And there's plenty of YouTube
- 7:26videos on almost anything you can imagine. But I've done that before where I
- 7:30was like, okay, look if this happens again, click here, do
- 7:33this, blah blah blah, press this button. Never ever has anybody ever
- 7:41gotten back to me and said, hey, I kid, wish you told
- 7:43me to do and it work. No. No, They're just like,
- 7:46hey, it's not working again. Did you do what I told you to
- 7:47do well, I don't remember what it was. Yeah, okay, I'll
- 7:51be right there. You know, yeah, boy, I actually went through
- 7:56earlier today. And the reason I brought this uff is is earlier today they
- 7:59finally were able to sit in front of your computer again, and they told
- 8:03me nothing was happening. And I'm this is after I made a trip and
- 8:07I've checked it. I basically changed out a computer, as a matter of
- 8:11fact, got it going, got it set up so that it was pretty
- 8:15much flawless, right, And they told me it's nothing, nothing's happening.
- 8:20I'm moving the mouse nothing. I'm like, kay, is the power button
- 8:24on? The power light on? The power button? Yeah? Yeah,
- 8:26yeah, that's that's And you had nothing on your screen. Move your mouse
- 8:30a little, let move in the mouse, move your keyboard, move the
- 8:33keyboard. Nothing, move the keyboard. Well he hit a key on the
- 8:37keyboard. You know, like, what does that you? So, okay,
- 8:41I picked up my keyboard. I moved it one inch to the left.
- 8:45Turn now what turn it upside down and look at the crumbs that'll fall
- 8:48out of the keyboard. French fry fell out. So this is what happened.
- 8:54The batteries and the mouse died. And then what they did is hit
- 8:58the power button to turn the computer off. But when they turn it on,
- 9:03it ran a Windows update and it took forever to start up, and
- 9:05then it just went blackscreen as it was doing the update, so they just
- 9:09assumed it wasn't working. I've told this story before on this radio show.
- 9:13Yeah, I don't understand how people now in the year twenty twenty three.
- 9:18I don't understand how people don't know how to use a computer in this day
- 9:20and age. I mean, we were raised with computers at least, you
- 9:26know my generation now all right, Now, obviously if you're older, okay,
- 9:28I get it. But anybody that's my age or younger, and primarily
- 9:33the people I deal with are younger than me, right, they don't know
- 9:37how to use a computer. I'm like, it doesn't know No, there's
- 9:39no excuse anymore. In my mind, you don't know how to use a
- 9:43computer. You know why? Because it's changed? All right? So what
- 9:46what what do you consider yourself in? Are you in gen z? Are
- 9:50you millennial? Well? See, I'm actually I mean if you if you
- 9:56look at the what's word I'm looking for? If if you look at the
- 10:01timeline. I guess I'm right on the border. I'm not gen X,
- 10:05right, and I'm not millennial. Okay, I'm like, I'm I'm there
- 10:11was a word for it. I just oh, zennial. I'm a zennial.
- 10:13That's what it is. Because I was eighty one, so that was
- 10:16right when the transition started. So I'm a Zennio. So by the time
- 10:20then you're using computers in yeah. Sure. And and I made a post
- 10:24about this on Facebook, I don't know, a couple of weeks ago,
- 10:28but it said Zennials are unique because they grew up with an analog childhood and
- 10:37a digital adulthood. Yeah. So I remember before computers. I remember when
- 10:43I when I was a kid, we didn't have a computer. I mean,
- 10:46the first computer we got was a three eighty six. It was a
- 10:48three eighty six. We put you know, the original Doom, the original
- 10:52Wolfenstein on it. We had to play with five and a quarter inch floppies.
- 10:58Yeah, there's two big drives. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:01we had all that, and you know that was that was the first
- 11:03introduction into it. I was Windows three point one. Yeah, I mean
- 11:07it was. It was unique for my childhood because I'm in that transition phase,
- 11:13so I remember all of that. But kids that are born in you
- 11:18know, the year two thousand, which still blows my mind to think that
- 11:22people to be born in the year two thousand or now twenty three years old.
- 11:24I mean, like, oh my god, twenty two, twenty three
- 11:30it is. It makes me feel so old. Well here here's something Okay,
- 11:33So a bunch of bosses, thirteen hundred bosses were pulled in a survey
- 11:37recently, and they found millennials are now seen as the best employees. Millennials,
- 11:43all right, jen Zers are the worst, they say. The reason
- 11:50why is because jen zers are terrible with technology. Now give or take some
- 11:56of you listening that might be in that gen Z bracket that's born in nineteen
- 12:00ninety and two thousand that they're not good with technology. And the reason why
- 12:05is because we've made it so easy for them. Think about it, nineteen
- 12:09ninety so by twenty ten they might be sitting around with their or two thousand
- 12:15and five with their first computer experience. It's all for them. It's all
- 12:18done for them, not like a boomer like me, and for some of
- 12:22our listeners, you know, us boomers that are above the age of what
- 12:26is it fifty five I think or sixty fifty five, all right, so
- 12:31above the age of fifty five. We grew up in the days where you
- 12:33formatted, reformatted, installed, you, you troubleshoot it, you right,
- 12:39worked with DOS, you dropped to dos in Windows or you or like me,
- 12:45I used I didn't even but the first one I use was the Apple
- 12:48two e so I had, you know, helped the Apple US and then
- 12:50moved into the three eighty six. But did I use Windows. No.
- 12:54I had geal Works with AOL on it because that's what I wanted on that
- 12:58and that's what I had for my you know, late twentieth early thirties to
- 13:03use. So we've learned how to do that. But the kids have no
- 13:07concept of DOS. Some of them. Some of you may be listening,
- 13:09you're real good with that, or coding. Uh, you might be good
- 13:13to the coding good when it comes to the technology at it. Some people
- 13:16have a rough time with that. Well yeah, I mean I guess you
- 13:18could. You could almost equate it to like an analogy of like an automobile.
- 13:24I mean, way back in the day when the automobiles, like let's
- 13:26say I don't know, forties, fifties and sixties, you had to drive
- 13:31it and you had to learn you had to learn how to fix it if
- 13:35it broke down. Yeah, true, and and so you were, you
- 13:39know, neck deep in the engine compartment all the time fixing things and learning
- 13:43about your car. Now people are just they're just they can't be inconvenienced with
- 13:50learning about problems and how to fix it. It's it's a problem, it's
- 13:54like, oh, call the it guy right, or or if it's the
- 13:58car, oh, just take it to the mechanic. Another people like you
- 14:01buy another car whatever. Yeah, I mean it's like, oh, you've
- 14:03you've got a your your radio's out on your car, whatever, the fuse
- 14:09blew on your radio. Buy another car, yeah, like, you know
- 14:11whatever. It's like they just can't be inconvenience. It's like we've become a
- 14:15society of convenience. Well then and then again, people don't want to learn
- 14:18thinking about it, you know. With that an analogy of computers having been
- 14:22made so much easier for everybody that you really don't need to know too much
- 14:26about how they work. The same goes with cars, because then you used
- 14:30to have to know how a carburetor worked, or how does change an air
- 14:33filter, an oil filter? How to do an oil change, how to
- 14:37check your oil you know, how to replace it? Or even home maintenance.
- 14:41Yeah, I've seen. Yeah, there's so many people that, even
- 14:45in my neighborhood, they post on our neighborhood facebook page about oh my,
- 14:50my HVAC unit just won't push any air anymore, and I don't know why.
- 14:54And it's like somebody who's like commented, have you changed your air filter
- 14:58recently? Like, well, what is that? Oh no, oh my
- 15:03god. And they go and pull it out and then they take a picture
- 15:05of it and they send it to everybody in the group and it is just
- 15:09caked full of dirt and dust, and it's like, well, there's your
- 15:13problem. They're like, well, as soon as I pulled it out of
- 15:16my HVAC unit, I could just feel the airflow coming through the house.
- 15:18I'm like, yeah, because your thing was choking that little thing. Does
- 15:22that? People just don't know, And it's like, Okay, I get
- 15:28it. I don't expect you to be an expert and everything. I suck
- 15:31at home maintenance, right, but I have a healthy understanding of the most
- 15:37basic aspects of a lot of things, and I feel like that's where society
- 15:41is failing so many people. Now, is that you, dude, I
- 15:45have a basic knowledge. I mean, you get these people that are like,
- 15:48yeay, we just bought our first house. Yeay, we're twenty two,
- 15:52and I don't know how to change an air filter, let alone clean
- 15:56out my peat trap on my you know whatever. It's like, Oh my
- 16:00god. According to John Oliver, people under the age of thirty five are
- 16:04having a rough time buying houses. Well, yeah, there's too. Yeah,
- 16:08yeah, that's that makes it really rough too. Now, when it
- 16:11comes to your computer, somebody said to you, Justin, how do I
- 16:14clean this thing? What? What do I? What should I do with
- 16:17it? And then you pressure washer? He's kidding, folks, He's absolutely
- 16:23kidding. Yeah, No, I'm not. Do not take a pressure washer
- 16:27to your tower. Just take a pressure No, hear me out, take
- 16:32a pressure washer, wash it all on ice and clean and then put it
- 16:34in a big bag of rice. No, don't do that. People do
- 16:44not do that. No, the views represented by Justin Lemmy are not the
- 16:48views of tech Talk Radio or this radio station. No, you don't want
- 16:51to do it. We gotta we gotta make a movie. We gotta write
- 16:52a script about that. That would be great. Actually, PC Gamer a
- 16:57couple of years ago did a really good piece because people were spending so much
- 17:02time at home during the beginning of the pandemic and they were starting to use
- 17:04they were not every company issued somebody a laptop or a desktop computer. They
- 17:10actually told him, here, dial in and use your computer. But they
- 17:12found that their computers weren't up to par. Their computers were like slow,
- 17:18they were chugging along. They had two gigs of memory, they had an
- 17:22old spinny hard drive in there. So a PC gamer put an article out
- 17:26and they reminded us of this article during spring cleaning, that you can do
- 17:30spring cleaning on your computers. But obviously there's things you don't want to do.
- 17:36One of them. I actually heard an employee at a big box store
- 17:41tell somebody, well, if you got a lot of dust, just open
- 17:45it up. You can open up the side and just take a vacuum cleaner
- 17:48and take the vacuum cleaner host and pick up the dust that way. Also,
- 17:52folks, don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that.
- 17:56Static. Yeah, well it's not just the static. I mean yes,
- 17:59that's one. The other is your computers in many cases have what they called
- 18:02jumpers, and there are there are little devices that bridge certain parts of what
- 18:07your computers could do. And people have been known to use a vacuum cleaner
- 18:11on the inside of the computer and suck up those jumpers and they wonder why
- 18:15all that. Yeah, the computer won't start at that point, you know.
- 18:18Um so PC gamer has this link. I want you to check it
- 18:22out. It's pcgamer dot com. Forward slash spring Dash clean dash your dash
- 18:29PC. All right. Now, if you think that maybe you were on
- 18:34a laptop or you have an all in one, you don't have to worry
- 18:37about it. And you're like sitting there on the high hog right now,
- 18:40you know, running the fingers on the chest and see, I don't have
- 18:42to do that, Actually you do. You could have the same issues with
- 18:47your vents getting clogged up on your your laptop. I'm not saying open up
- 18:49your laptop. You don't want to do that, but you put it in
- 18:56the washing machine, getting grab the car keys, go to go to you
- 19:00know wherever you're gonna go Best Buy, Costco whatever, and buy a new
- 19:03one. That's yeah, there you go. You know you don't want to
- 19:04do that. No, Um, but a little little can of air and
- 19:07you gotta be really careful with those can actually help dislodge any of that.
- 19:11But if your fans are heating up, the computers, getting less power,
- 19:15just not working the way it should, that, believe it or not,
- 19:18that that can be a big issue. And as the summer HiT's Yep,
- 19:22we're getting hotter here. I don't know about you in Denver. I know
- 19:23here in Tucson we're getting snow right now. Are you still getting snow?
- 19:29Yep? Wow, tonight, Yes, tonight as at the time of this
- 19:32recording, we are under a winter storm warning. That's crazy. I know
- 19:36there's snow in the front range. Yeah. And you're you're in the same
- 19:40month as US as April, right, yep. It end of April,
- 19:44coming back April next week will be May so great. Uh, something else
- 19:49to think about. I'm gonna talk about it because it's Arizona and you're in
- 19:52Denver, so maybe it's not a big deal. People transporting their laptops and
- 19:57their tablets, leaving their phones in the little carrier, you know, in
- 20:03your car. You know you don't want to do that, especially in the
- 20:07summer here. Absolutely not no, you know, or you're a lot of
- 20:11more people are getting dashcams nowadays. You definitely don't want to leave your dash
- 20:15cam, you know, connected to your windshield, especially in even in Arizona.
- 20:19I mean, yeah, it'll melt. I mean, what is what
- 20:22is your car get up to down there? Like, well, if it's
- 20:23two hundred and fifty degrees about that, seriously, he's not being serious,
- 20:29like two hundred and fifty degrees or something. And you've got this battery,
- 20:33battery device that's you know, most of them have a battery that's plugged into
- 20:37your your car. It's getting direct sunlight. Your best thing. Pull it
- 20:41down and put it in if you have to, you know, if you
- 20:42can't take it with you, put it in the glove compartment. It's not
- 20:45plugged in, it's put away. Yeah, you know, definitely. But
- 20:48here's another thing too, can of air free on. This happened to Michael
- 20:52Brian, who I just talked to this past week. Mike's doing well,
- 20:56but he one time took a couple of cans of air. Had a I'm
- 21:02not sure it was a it was a laptop he had, and he put
- 21:04him in the back of his Montero and he drove somewhere and he went inside
- 21:08to do some shopping. And when he came out, Now this was in
- 21:12Palm Springs, mind you, but when he came out, those cans of
- 21:15air exploded. And when they exploded, they took out that laptop, completely
- 21:22shattered it. So another thing to think about. Don't leave that. Don't
- 21:26leave your electronics in your car. Plus it's a you know, somebody walking
- 21:29back and see it in smash and grab. Absolutely, that's not a good
- 21:33thing. All right, what coming up? We got to talk to you
- 21:37about a purchase you made this week. I want to talk to you about
- 21:41that thing you're sitting on because I've been shopping and I keep getting fed ads
- 21:48for a certain brand, and I think it's because Facebook really is spy on
- 21:52spying on me. Oh sorry, and I'll tell you why we come back.
- 21:56This is tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm justin. Let
- 22:00me find us on the web at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be
- 22:03right back and now back to tech talk Radio. I went ahead and purchase
- 22:10something, and you're a little jealous, Yes I am. Yeah, Well
- 22:15okay, so let me let me preface this. I mean, I I
- 22:18have always been a video gamer. I love video games my whole life.
- 22:22I've got a gaming PC. I have an Xbox Series X, which is
- 22:27the top of the line Xbox, you know for this generation. Um,
- 22:32I have a Nintendo Switch. Um, but I don't have a play isn't
- 22:37that something you bought for Eric doesn't Eric have? Well, he's got his
- 22:41own. He's got his own Nintendo switch. Are you kidding me? Really
- 22:42nice? Yeah, I got ant switching. He's got a switch light which
- 22:47we never play. I just, yeah, it's weird. Um, But
- 22:49anyway, I just I don't have a PS five and I've I've been kind
- 22:52of eyeing them, you know, but I'm like, I don't really have
- 22:56a reason to go drop five hundred and fifty bucks or whatever is pretty pricey.
- 23:00Well they have two models, right, they have what they do?
- 23:03They have disc and a disc lists. Yeah and yeah, so even the
- 23:07disc lists is still like four twenty five or four thirty something like that.
- 23:11Um. However, I was a couple days ago, I was I was
- 23:15browsing the neighborhood Facebook page, and there was a neighbor who actually was saying,
- 23:21hey, I got a PS five for sale brand new inbox disc edition.
- 23:26Whoa, I'm seeking four hundred dollars. Wow. I reached out to
- 23:30him and said, hey, would you take three fifty? You did not
- 23:33low ball him, did you? Oh? I did. I totally did.
- 23:37And initially initially he was like, I don't know about that. I
- 23:41said, oh, it's okay, and I decided to play the pity party.
- 23:45I was like, my six year old really wants the PS five and
- 23:48he's only got three fifty saved up rotten. Oh well, yeah, okay,
- 23:55sure i'll do. I'll do three fifty. Was all right. So
- 23:59I went over I first of all, I first I've asked him. I
- 24:02was like, how did you get this? And first, you know,
- 24:03yeah, there's so many questions I have, like why fall out? How
- 24:07did you get it? Fall off the back of a truck? Huh yeah,
- 24:10I fell back of a truck. You know. I want to make
- 24:11sure, like where did you get this? How did you? Why are
- 24:15you selling this so cheap? He's like, well, I mean I've already
- 24:18got a PS five and I he says something about I switched to a new
- 24:22cell phone carrier and they gave me a huge credit, like a gift card,
- 24:26and so I had to spend it on something. So I bought another
- 24:29PS five and I decided to give you know, somebody a good discount on
- 24:32it because I don't really need it. And I'm like, well, my
- 24:33son is going to be super happy with you. So I took him over
- 24:37there and I told him. I was like, yes, my son's fun
- 24:44money. Then my son, though, he almost blows my cover because he's
- 24:49he looks at me, goes, wait, daddy, this is my fun
- 24:52money, and I'm like, yep. He's like. I was like,
- 25:00oh god, oh god. I was like, no, no, it's
- 25:02okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay. Here here, here,
- 25:03I ven mode you the money here and let me take it. Let's
- 25:06go. My you know, walked outside and I'm like trying to call him
- 25:07down. I'm like, dude, keep your money. It's fine. Wait,
- 25:11so I get to keep my money? Yeah, well what is this
- 25:15all about? I'm like, I just used your use a pawn, Like,
- 25:18what's up, pawn? So I totally used my kid for that.
- 25:23But I got myself a PS five for three disc edition for three fifty.
- 25:29Man, I mean I can't have I gotta say. I mean, okay,
- 25:32So I hooked everything up. So I got the Xbox in the basement
- 25:34in my theater area. I've got the PlayStation upstairs on the main floor,
- 25:38which is another you know, I got another four KTV up there. Don't
- 25:42have surrounds sound or nothing like that, but I mean, it's it's it's
- 25:45okay. I hooked it all up. Then I realized, well, first
- 25:48off, I had no more money left because I basically blew all my money.
- 25:51I had no games. So I was like, oh, okay,
- 25:53well what am I gonna do about that. I don't have you know,
- 25:56sixty five dollars or whatever it is to drop on a new game game.
- 26:00So I signed up for the PlayStation Plus network. It's basically like the Xbox
- 26:03Game Pass, right, So I sign up for the premium version. It's
- 26:07like, I think it's seventeen bucks or eighteen bucks a month whatever. If
- 26:11I pay monthly, if I pay yearly, it's cheaper. But I decided
- 26:14just to start with the monthly and immediately I got access to a ton of
- 26:18games. Yeah, somebody might right away go, wait, seventeen dollars a
- 26:21month, that's a lot of money, But what you get, on the
- 26:23flip side of this, hundreds of games without having to go out and buy
- 26:27these games. Like you said, sixty some of these are top games too.
- 26:30You don't get every single game, but you do get a sizeable catalogue
- 26:34of games. It's the same thing as Xbox Game Pass. They come out
- 26:37for six to eight months or so, and then they'll leave the store,
- 26:41but you have a chance to buy them at a super deep discount, so
- 26:47if you want to keep playing them. So But right now, I've got
- 26:48the new Final Fantasy seven remake. Now Final Fantasy seven. If anybody's ever
- 26:55a good gamer out there ever played it, Final Fantasy seven is by far
- 26:59the best Final Fantasy game of all time. Really it was. It was
- 27:03released for the PlayStation one back in I want to say ninety eight, ninety
- 27:07nine, I want to say ninety nine. Maybe this is an actual remake.
- 27:11It's not a remaster. They remade the entire game in today's graphics.
- 27:15Oh cool, So it looks new, but it follows the storyline of Final
- 27:22Fantasy seven. So that's really really cool. But also, I've just got
- 27:25a ton of games that I just you can't get on the Xbox and they're
- 27:29just fun to play, and I don't have to pay anything for them.
- 27:32Well, I mean I have to pay the eighteen bucks a month or whatever,
- 27:34but I don't have to pay anything else for these. I can just
- 27:37download them. The best part about it is the remote play. And so
- 27:41I mean I have with the how's that? What is that? I have
- 27:45a Windows computer, my Surface Pro, right, I have the Xbox app
- 27:48on my Surface Pro, and that allows me to play my Xbox remotely from
- 27:52wherever I am in the entire world. I can actually stream my home Xbox
- 27:59to my surf. I try to in Japan. It worked great. I
- 28:02mean literally streaming my home Xbox from Japan. That's pretty cool and it worked
- 28:07great. However, this this latest recent update with Xbox Game Pass, I
- 28:11mean, it is just is completely destroyed. The remote play. You can't
- 28:17do it anymore. It's it's horrible and there's no word on it. They're
- 28:19not saying, hey, we're looking into this. I mean, it's just
- 28:22it's absolutely horrible. I'll tell you right now. The PlayStation remote play,
- 28:27it just works, and it works really really well. As a matter of
- 28:33fact, a couple days ago, I was sitting over at brews Our local
- 28:36brewery here in the neighborhood, and I fired up the PlayStation remote play and
- 28:41I actually played an entire game of Overwatch two, which is like, so,
- 28:47if you don't know what overwatched, it's like a it's a five on
- 28:48five first person shooter, right, but it's it's it's it's fast paced.
- 28:55I mean, the graphics are moving, there's a lot of action going on,
- 28:59and that's usually not good for remote play because of the latency and the
- 29:02lag and things. Everything was perfect. I ended up scoring number one on
- 29:07my team even playing a remote that's pretty good playing remotely. Yeah, and
- 29:11I gotta say too, the PlayStation dual Sense controller is phenomenal. I love
- 29:19this controller. Now. I still think Xbox. I like the layout better
- 29:22of the Xbox. I like the thumb positions of the Xbox controller better.
- 29:27But what I love about the PlayStation controller is the L two and the R
- 29:33two triggers on the backside, the ones that you would normally use your middle
- 29:37finger to press down. They have haptic feedback built into it, so if
- 29:44you're trying to do something in the game, let's say, for instance,
- 29:47like opening a stuck door, right, the trigger will actually fight back.
- 29:52Nice so when you're pressing the trigger, it's hard to press the trigger because
- 29:59it's fighting back against you, So it gives you that a little extra sense
- 30:03of reality. Another cool feature about the controller is it has well it's got
- 30:07a microphone built into it for for for remote play, so if you're playing
- 30:11online with people, you don't have to have a headset. You can there's
- 30:15a remote, or there's a there's a there's a microphone built into the controller
- 30:18with an easy mute button in case you don't want it. But there's also
- 30:22a speaker, and the speaker isn't necessarily just used for multiplayer communication, It's
- 30:29actually used in other ways. I was playing the game Stray, which is
- 30:33where you take on the the cat. Yeah, you're you're You're you're a
- 30:37cat and you're walking around a post apocalyptic world. I could hear the footsteps
- 30:45and the purse of the cat through the controller. It blew me away.
- 30:49I was like, this is this is crazy? When are they going to
- 30:52put it straight too? Because Anna Perna did really good with that title,
- 30:56and then nothing yet. I don't know. I'm I'm I'm liking it right
- 31:03now. Although I did make a mistake. I'll be honest. I let
- 31:07Eric try to play Stray because he was he was interest. He's like,
- 31:10oh, I want to be a cat. I want to play it,
- 31:11of course. And in the very beginning of Stray, there's a there's the
- 31:15opening sequence where you know, you're jumping around with a bunch of other cats.
- 31:18You're you're jumping on these like uh HVAC vent ventilation pipes and one of
- 31:25them breaks away and you lose your footing and there's nothing you can do about
- 31:27it. This is a cut scene, like you can't control it, Like
- 31:30it just happens and your cat, your character falls down into this pit and
- 31:36loses his friends. He had nightmares all night long, oh man, because
- 31:41he was so because he kept saying, I'm I missed the cats. I
- 31:45missed the cat. And I'm like, I'm like, bro, it's like
- 31:47two thirty in the morning. Can you just it's just a game, Okay,
- 31:51your child, I know, but I mean, come on, it
- 31:53was just a game, but a cat. It wasn't like I was letting
- 31:56him play Call of Duty or or five Nights at Freddie's. I mean,
- 32:00come on, I mean, it's not a horror game. It was just
- 32:05a game on a cat, but he just got so freaked out about it.
- 32:07But they make um seem so realistic that that bought between a kid.
- 32:13Now. So there's PlayStation now some of the things. And then I asked
- 32:15you right off the bat, can you connect to PlayStation network? And that
- 32:21was like okay, because there have been cases where people have bought them exactly
- 32:27online and then they hunk him up and then they find out that they were
- 32:30acquired wrongly, like through you know, stolen of burglary or whatever, and
- 32:37then they're not able to connect. But that's why, Yes, that's why
- 32:40I asked this guy, where did you get this? Why why are you
- 32:43selling this? It was cheap? And he's like, well, you know,
- 32:45I told you the story. So yeah, the first thing I did
- 32:47I got home, I set it up and I tried to connect to the
- 32:51PlayStation network just to make sure, and sure enough it was. Everything was
- 32:52fine. That's cool. I was like, all right, all right,
- 32:55I know I got a legit console. I want to so my Xbox One,
- 33:00which is what I have. I love it, you know, I've
- 33:02cleaned it out, I've done I've done a couple of upgrades to it.
- 33:06But the drive it doesn't work. Anymore, and I could replace the drive,
- 33:10but do I really want Do you have to do soldering and all that
- 33:13stuff when you replace You can't just you know, pull out and put a
- 33:15new drive in. So that's what's awesome about the new pop a new one
- 33:20in it. But the problem with this is I use it mainly now as
- 33:23just a media device so I can watch you know, my Netflix, Hulu
- 33:28and everything on there. I want to get another one. I want to
- 33:30get the new one. Do I do? I bother getting the S or
- 33:35the X Which one should I be looking at? But honestly, you're not
- 33:38a hardcore gamer? No, no, I would. I would go with
- 33:42the S. Just get the series. Yeah, I go with the Series
- 33:45S, not the Xbox One S. The Series S. So that's the
- 33:51newest generation. But the S is going to be just enough for you because
- 33:54you're not a hardcore gamer. I got the Series X because I'm just that.
- 34:00That's the type of guy I want. I am. I just want
- 34:01the best of everything. If I want it, Yeah, it has to
- 34:04be the best. So I got the Series X. I don't even utilize
- 34:08Well, first off, there's not even a game out right now for the
- 34:12Series X that utilizes the power of the series X Right, there's just nothing
- 34:17out yet. Well it's been out for two years. Hopefully they'll do that.
- 34:22All right, we can take a break. But what we're gonna do
- 34:23is coming up on Monday is the premiere of the second season of Undercover under
- 34:30Age. And we've had her on the show. We've I think we've even
- 34:34featured her in one of our best stuffs. But I think to show that
- 34:37every parent should watch. Now, it's up to you if you want to
- 34:42have the kids watch it as well. But platform it is on ID Discovery.
- 34:46You'll be able to find it on the app as well if you have
- 34:50if you have their service. But it's about this this girl, root Rupal,
- 34:53who actually works with a team and they help catch those child predators that
- 34:59are out there. She does a really great job at it. So I
- 35:02want to go we want to go ahead and feature that discussion with Rupal,
- 35:05which she started, why she started the show, what the show is all
- 35:08about, So you can be prepared to watch this on Monday. I'll be
- 35:10watching it. I know a lot of people will. So we come back,
- 35:14we'll have that and then we'll wrap up with justin coming up on tech
- 35:16Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm justin. Let me find us on
- 35:20Facebook, Facebook, dot com, forward slash tech Talkers. We'll be right
- 35:23back now back to TikTok Radio. Around this time last year, well brand
- 35:29new show made its debut on ID Channel season one of a show called Undercover
- 35:34Underage, and the show has been picked up for a second season. It
- 35:37makes its debut this coming Monday on ID Channel. Rupowell is the driving force
- 35:45behind Sosa as well as this show Undercover Underage. We find out a little
- 35:49bit about why this show got started, how it got started, how they
- 35:52do it in our discussion with Rupal about the show Undercover Underage. Thanks for
- 35:58coming on tech talk Radio. Thank you so much for having me. Where
- 36:00did this idea come from to actually take what you were doing with Sosa to
- 36:07make this a show? I never expected this to be a show. And
- 36:12a production company reached out to me and said, you know, we'd love
- 36:15to follow you around and show them the work that you do. And immediately
- 36:21my natric reaction was, I don't know that that's a good idea. Yeah,
- 36:24And then they made a really good point and they said, you work
- 36:29so hard to raise awareness. Imagine doing that with a million people every week,
- 36:34and that's really what hooks me because you'll see an undercover underage that we
- 36:38are going after specific perpetrators, but more than going after online predators one by
- 36:45one. I really think what's going to move the meal with online predation is
- 36:49awareness, and I'm really glad to undercover underage and be able to do that.
- 36:52Do you find rue that many parents have no idea that their kids are
- 36:58having conversations sometimes with adults and these adults are preying on them. I don't
- 37:05think that parents in general realize the pervasiveness of online pervation. And I think
- 37:12that's because it's relatively new, Like Snapchat's only been around for a decade.
- 37:15You and I didn't grow up with smartphones in our hands, and so this
- 37:20generation of kids is really the first generation of kids with smartphones. I mean,
- 37:24the iPhone came out in two thousand and seven, so its brand new
- 37:29territory, and you know, we need to kind of shift the way that
- 37:32you know, society has been parating. So I don't think they realize how
- 37:37easy it is for someone to target a kid online. Either it's not about
- 37:43you know, being a good kid, or being a smart kid, or
- 37:45being a kid that needs attention. It's not about any of those things.
- 37:49It's the fact that these predators are seasoned, seasoned manipulators, and they are
- 37:53very colorcious. Well, the organization that you created Safe from Online Sex Abuse
- 38:00otherwise known as SOSA, how long has that been around and what was kind
- 38:05of the spearheading to create this organization? Had you heard of stories where children
- 38:09had been victimized this way? So I have been a career long writer,
- 38:14and I've long had cared about advocacy, particularly child advocacy. So I had
- 38:20gone to the Southeast Hia to write about human trafficking. I've written about you
- 38:22know, poverty, d crisis, child wellness, that sort of thing.
- 38:27And then I was running creative for a tech company and we were seeing predation
- 38:34happen online. You know, it's just tech safety company. And I really
- 38:38believe in my heart that people did not know exactly what was going on.
- 38:44And I could just if I could just screen grab one of these conversations,
- 38:47screen grab how malicious this is and just put it on a billboard. I
- 38:52think parents would you know, immediately understand what's happening. I ended up writing
- 38:58a piece while I was a tech company about predation, and it went viral
- 39:02and I ended up doing some profits on like Good Morning America. And then
- 39:06after that, I realized, this is an area that I really want to
- 39:08focus on. So I took some time to kind of study what nonprofits are
- 39:14like. I've always been in a for profit industry, and I joined the
- 39:16board of a of a child wellness nonprofit, and I felt like Dad gave
- 39:21me some experience, so I couldn't start SOSA. We're talking with Rupal.
- 39:24Of course, Undercover underagees the show it airs on Discovery. You could stream
- 39:29it if you have the Discovery app as well, but it's definitely one not
- 39:32to miss. If you're a parent, you're wondering, gosh, what is
- 39:36going on with the kids, and we think, you know, we think
- 39:38we tell our kids. I gotta tell you rue. Back in the nineties
- 39:42when AOL remember AOL chat you had chat rooms. Oh yeah, your whole
- 39:45bit. I remember my daughter was I want to say, maybe thirteen to
- 39:50fourteen, and she would go and she'd be on the computer all the time.
- 39:52Now I was a tech guy, so I you know, I was
- 39:54like, oh, I know what I'm doing. I know it's safe.
- 39:57She's okay. And one day, hey at the house through we got a
- 40:01dozen red roses for her, and I remember saying to my wife number one,
- 40:07number one, who what fourteen year old? If it's the same age,
- 40:12it's going to be able to send her a dozen red roses from Florida.
- 40:15And we lived in California, so we put the kabash on that pretty
- 40:20quick. And it was rough because you know, we had to pull pull
- 40:22the technology. You have the discussions. I even had a friend that was
- 40:25in law enforcement come over and really even law enforcement was kind of unaware like
- 40:30how to deal with it. Law enforcement has really been kind of a good
- 40:35backbone for what you're doing by catching some of these predators. Yeah, I
- 40:38mean, we do work in tandem of law enforcement, and you know,
- 40:42anytime we put a new play in a city, we have a law enforcement
- 40:45buy in, so there are no surprises. Yeah. I mean I was
- 40:47a teenager in the nineties also, and I remember when someone told me that
- 40:52they were also thirteen. I was like great new friends on the Internet,
- 40:55not realizing how manipulative that some of these people could be. And um,
- 41:01you know, it's it's become even trickier and it's become even more easy now.
- 41:07Like I love technology. I think technology is great. It's allowing you
- 41:09to speak with you, it's allowing me to you know, spacetime a sibling
- 41:15who lives overseas. We get to learn different things. We get to see
- 41:19what's happening in you know, Ukraine right now. But it's also an avenue
- 41:22that predators would use to abuse children. And so because at an avenue,
- 41:28we do things differently about how we approach things. How does a parent route
- 41:31talk to their kid, you know, when when they decide to go ahead
- 41:36and spend you know, twelve hundred bucks and give them an iPhone or an
- 41:39Android device and say, here you go, have fun, you know,
- 41:43show me your funny snaps. How did they protect them from these predators.
- 41:47That's a great question. I have a teen and I have two twins,
- 41:51and they have cell phones, and you know, we put some training roles
- 41:54on them, so they didn't start out with having access to everything, right,
- 41:59and then beginning they could just text stand the numbers, and then it
- 42:01was okay, now you can text and listen to podcasts and listen to audiobooks
- 42:06and play a game. And then we kind of, you know, we
- 42:08let them show us if they're responsible, it's not. Here's your phone,
- 42:13have fun on TikTok and snapchat and good luck. You know, we have
- 42:16really open and honest conversations about what happens online. As a parent, I
- 42:21kind of liken it to the sex talk. You don't have the sex talk
- 42:23once with your kids, you have it frequently. It's a topic of conversation,
- 42:28and so our cell phone safety is also a topic of conversation in our
- 42:31house as well. Like Undercover Underage was originally going to be TVMA, and
- 42:37one of the reasons why we really wanted it to be TV fourteen is because
- 42:39we were hoping that some adults could watched it with their teenagers and it would
- 42:44be great, you know, it would be a great starter for discussion around
- 42:47online safety. Is it important for somebody maybe fourteen fifteen to sit down with
- 42:53the parents and understand and watch this. I think so. And here's why
- 42:58your kids already know that it's happening. That's true, But they are,
- 43:00they're already aware. They're already in high school. They already understand. Maybe
- 43:04not to what extent, maybe not to the pervasiveness of it, maybe not
- 43:07to how malicious these people are, but you know, they're if not their
- 43:14cell phone, their friends cell phone top stuff on the right, Like they're
- 43:16on different apps than people are reaching out to them. So I do think
- 43:20it's important, and I've had parents say that it has been a great tool
- 43:23in teaching about online safety. You know, and your mind legs may vary
- 43:28on what you think as appropriate for your kids. Some parents have their twelve
- 43:30year old watch it, so I'm not until they're fourteen, so you know,
- 43:34maybe screen it first. That's actually a good point too. You can
- 43:37always watch it first and then go back and watch it with them. Well,
- 43:39and on the tech end of it, you're an advisor to Spectrum Labs.
- 43:43They work to help keep kids safe, you know online through text and
- 43:47even audio moderation because people have people have face to face facetimes so easy to
- 43:52use or Skype or any of the other services. They could just suddenly pull
- 43:54up a video and there's the person there. Oh right. Yeah. And
- 43:59one thing that's great about Spectrum and to really dig into the tech here,
- 44:01we take our conversations and the grooming patterns and the language that we see and
- 44:07we remove all the PII, all the personally identifiable information, and we give
- 44:12it to the data scientists at Spectrum Labs and they use that to train their
- 44:16artificial intelligence in order to better detect signs of child abuse. And Spectrum works
- 44:22with companies that are social media apps, gaming apps, dating apps, because
- 44:27I think these companies are starting to realize that the owner there is an onus
- 44:30on them to keep their user base based, especially if they're opening up their
- 44:35platforms to searching them up. I'll tell you some of the stuff that you
- 44:38go through rough, somebody needs to give that lady a hug. I mean
- 44:43the stuff that because you know you're you're in there. For our listeners that
- 44:45haven't seen it, I want you to watch it. You're a fifteen year
- 44:49old girl from from from what your character that you're you're you're representing is a
- 44:53fifteen year old girl, and these people are doing these things of video chat
- 44:58and sending you this stuff, and it's like, I can't imagine a fifteen
- 45:00year old child seeing this. It's and this is sadly what happens. Yeah,
- 45:06I mean it's probably. I'm sure it's painful for some people to watch
- 45:09me go through it because you can see me react. But I'm an adult,
- 45:14you know, I'm almost middle age, and I have access to therapy
- 45:17and support and acute role in that keeps me companies. But imagine if it
- 45:22was actually I mean, it's actually happening to teenagers, and better me than
- 45:25a teenager. But what's happening is so many kids are afraid to talk to
- 45:30a caring adults about it because they don't want to be shamed. So a
- 45:32lot of these kids are dealing with this kind of quietly and secretively because like
- 45:37what is online abuse? As nobody actually put their hands on me, but
- 45:42they're still being abused. And that's the thing with technology Now you don't have
- 45:45to be in the same world or state or country as a kid in order
- 45:50to abuse them. Now, I have noticed that the show has gone to
- 45:54lengths to number one, you know, hide the voice of the perpetrator,
- 45:59which makes it creepier, but they do that, I mean, as creepy
- 46:02as it is. But but and then and then, you know, you
- 46:05kind of protect the identity. Although you know I've been I'm I watch i
- 46:08D channel, so I go online, I find out, Okay, that's
- 46:12that person or that's that person? Is that was that kind of a legal
- 46:15decision to do just to protect maybe id so so, or it was it
- 46:22just to say, listen, this exists in many people out there, so
- 46:24it's not just this one person. You know, we really believe in the
- 46:29process and we want to continue to have the respects and support of law enforcement
- 46:34and propecutors. And you know, we want these perpetutors that get caught to
- 46:38go through the proper processes and that includes a trial. You know, that's
- 46:43that's so right. And so what we don't want to do is splash their
- 46:46name and faith everywhere because everyone still delivers the right to a trial and we
- 46:52feel strongly about that. Now, getting arrested is one thing, but then
- 46:57after their sentence, you know, then it's done, it another and we
- 47:01really want to let law enforcement do their thing. So we're not we are
- 47:06not in the business of splashing that around. And I know we definitely get
- 47:10a lot of heat for that, but I also want to protect an investigation.
- 47:14I also don't want to be the one that works a case because I
- 47:19just put myself through all of that. I don't want it to sum to
- 47:22style and be like, oh, well, he guys you know, spewed
- 47:24him online. Obviously have a vendetta against him when that's certainly not the case.
- 47:30We are just looking for a better, safer internet for kids. So
- 47:35when parents get a chance to talk to you and ask you about the web
- 47:38and online safety, what seems to be the most general consensus of question.
- 47:45Parents will often ask you, well, what's a good app? What's a
- 47:46safe app? And the reality is any app can be used as a tool
- 47:52to a view the child if there's an opportunity to communicate. So we've seen
- 47:57it on coloring book apps, We've seen it on Words with Friends, We've
- 48:00seen it on you know, gaming websites that are geared towards kids. There's
- 48:05no I can't say these are all the safe ones, these are all the
- 48:07unsafe ones, because that you know, that's a false sense of security.
- 48:12I mean we have to be vigilant regardless, Like you know, what,
- 48:15what game is your kids playing on an iPad or on the xbox and are
- 48:19they communicating with someone? And you know, that's that's really important to think
- 48:22about because you could be playing a drawing game online and somewhere in the chat
- 48:27box will go, hey, does anyone want to give you their Instagram handle?
- 48:30I can show you photos of my puppies. And that's like a modern
- 48:32day version of Hey, little girl, can you help me find my dogs?
- 48:36Yeah? Boss? Oh, and it's not a creepy guy in a
- 48:39van. It's it's you know, a creepy guy on a keyboard, is
- 48:43what it is. That's what you're running into. And it might not even
- 48:45it might not even be a creepy guy, like he might be presenting as
- 48:49a as a nice kid and a peer or somebody who's you know, I
- 48:53think a lot of this, a lot of the scary stuff surrounding this.
- 48:58The scary part is these aren't just like caricatures as monsters, you know,
- 49:02they're not. Yeah, I can't look at someone and go, oh yeah,
- 49:06that's definitely an online predator. Some of these men are family men,
- 49:08or a conventionally attractive or they have good jobs, or their respective community members.
- 49:13It could be really anyone. It could be the person in front of
- 49:16you inline at the grocery store checkout. So there's no rhyme or reason.
- 49:22And you know, which is again why I'm very anti victim blanding on this,
- 49:27because yeah, it's so expensive if somebody comes across this room this happens,
- 49:32and and they're apparent and they suddenly have found images on you know,
- 49:38their kids devices. What should they do? Should they contact law enforcement?
- 49:43They should absolutely contact law enforcement. And you know, you can always block
- 49:46someone who is harassing your kid, but take screen grabs, handles over to
- 49:51law enforcement. Sometimes law enforcement will take over to the account and you know,
- 49:54okay, like give me a log in and we can see what happens
- 49:58here. Definitely call law enforcement and you can also you know, file a
- 50:00tip with Nick Nix, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Very
- 50:05important. We want our listeners to check out SOSA together dot org, so
- 50:08OSA Together dot org, and I want them to watch this show on ID
- 50:14channel Investigation Discovery. It is Undercover Underage Rupal. It is so great to
- 50:19talk to you. Thank you for the work you're doing and to the entire
- 50:21crew that you work with. Thank you. I'll pass it along and thank
- 50:23you so much for having me. That is Rupal. Season two of Undercover
- 50:28Underage debuts this Monday on Investigation Discovery. We'll be back with more of tech
- 50:32talk Radio and now back to tech talk Radio. Stephen right here listening to
- 50:37tech talk Radio. Yeah, some along that life. Yeah, I guess
- 50:44that was it, right, Let's go with it. I love it.
- 50:52I'll say it anyway. Ali, this is Stephen right, you're listening to
- 50:54tech talk radio. But you know I've already been saying that one of the
- 51:01things I've been shopping for lately is a chair. I want a gaming chair,
- 51:06and I keep hearing Razor is one of the choices for gaming chairs.
- 51:09I've gotten into office depot. I've sat in chairs, I said in one
- 51:14that made me hunch over. That's the key. That's probably not the chair
- 51:16I want. I'm not, yeah, I said in it. I'm like,
- 51:19oh, oh, I can't move in this thing. Um. Everybody's
- 51:22talking Secret Lab. If you if you get online on Facebook or Instagram,
- 51:27secret Lab, you see their chairs all the time. You have a Secret
- 51:30Lab chair. The one they keep pushing me is the Tighten Evo, And
- 51:36I'm trying to figure out why because it's also more expensive. What what is
- 51:39What is the one you have? And why would you recommend that I have
- 51:43the I have the Omega. They're they're they're they're pushing you the Titan because
- 51:49Facebook is spying on you and and Facebook knows your weight. What is it
- 51:55for larger people? Oh? Yeah, the Titan? The Titan is it's
- 52:00got like a reinforced titanium steel base. It's got like like shocks shock absorbers
- 52:07that are used by NASA. Um. Yeah, no, I'm just joking
- 52:12again. Yeah. No, Titan is their chair that is designed for larger
- 52:16people. Yes, it is true. I have the Omega. I'm not
- 52:21a very large person, although my wife would say otherwise. Um, but
- 52:25I have the Omega. I love Secret Lab. Secret Lab is an amazing
- 52:29company. They make amazing chairs. And you may think, oh, well,
- 52:31I don't want a gaming chair. It's not a gaming chair. As
- 52:37soon as you buy a Secret Lab and you sit down, you're not going
- 52:38to be a call of duty pro okay. Is what is designed for are
- 52:44people who sit for long periods of time in one position, Gamers, executives,
- 52:51people that are it professionals. Whatever, you're sitting for a long time
- 52:54in a chair, you want to be comfortable and that's what Secret Lab does.
- 52:59They make a chair that is comfortable for you. My thing is when
- 53:01I sit in a chair, I don't want to suddenly get my back forced
- 53:05into a weird position. I want to feel the lumbar. Yeah, I
- 53:07want to feel it under my legs. That comfort and in the armrest so
- 53:10that when I am sitting, because I do sit for long periods of time
- 53:14recording and doing Whatnotum, I just want to be comfortable. Would you recommend
- 53:17Secret Lab over or some of the others? I mean absolutely. Razor came
- 53:22in second on the list, but was even more I haven't I haven't tried
- 53:25a Razor. I don't know. I don't know about that. However,
- 53:29I'll be honest with you though, even though I have a Secret Lab chair,
- 53:31I still have one of those um uh, what are the They're very
- 53:37thick foam. Uh. They're used for like back rolls, you know,
- 53:40like you lay on the ground and you roll your back on it. Like
- 53:44now, not memory phone. It's like a hard yoga thing. It's like
- 53:46a it's a it's like a pool noodle. Yeah all right, right,
- 53:50but it's super hard. Right. Yeah. I had one of those,
- 53:52and I use it as a foot rest and I keep my feet on it
- 53:54and I can roll my feet back and forth to keep you know, my
- 53:58blood flow going. But I use that as well because it keeps my feet
- 54:01even more elevated and it takes the pressure off of my um What is that?
- 54:07The quad yeah, I guess the under muscle underneath your I don't have
- 54:10any more muscle there whatever. The muscle that's not No, the quad is
- 54:15on top. It's the bustle on the back of your main part of your
- 54:17leg. Anyway, it takes the pressure off of that because I do get
- 54:21that pressure still, no matter what chair I lit I sit in, I
- 54:23get that pressure. So having that foot roller to allow me to move my
- 54:28feet back and forth, it helps me keep that pressure off. And that's
- 54:30a lot of times. That's a lot of that's that's where a lot of
- 54:34the blood clots come from. It's people that are sitting in a chair with
- 54:37that part of their body which is just right above your knee on the underside,
- 54:42and you just sit there for a long time and you don't move that
- 54:45area. That causes a blood clot. Yeah. Well no, it's definitely
- 54:50not good. My father passed away from that. Yeah, So yeah,
- 54:52I mean it's like so it makes it very more much more conscious to me
- 54:55to make sure I'm not doing that. So it doesn't matter what chair you
- 54:59get. You guys been ten thousand dollars on a chair. You still need
- 55:01to move around exactly. But the secret lab chair is great in my opinion
- 55:06for when you are sitting. All right, good, good advice. We'll
- 55:08see what I end up coming up with by next week's show. The meantime,
- 55:13thanks for popping in. Okay, fun with the PlayStation and uh,
- 55:16you know, let Eric know his money still there. Yeah, of course
- 55:21I'm gonna go play some PlayStation right now. That's it for this week's tech
- 55:23talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm justin. Let me have yourselves a
- 55:27great week. We will see you next time. Find us on the web
- 55:30at tech talk radio dot com. See you
