- 0:46Speaker 4: Welcome, man.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us on a Tuesday edition.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We are full up today. We're going to hear from
- 1:04Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin on returning to Oxford. We've got a high
- 1:09Speaker 1: school report. We're going to hear from Aggie defensive lineman T.J. Searcy.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Mike Elko in the second hour. Mallory is here with
- 1:19Speaker 1: our review of the Emmys last night. I know you've
- 1:23Speaker 1: all been waiting for that, and we shall give that
- 1:27Speaker 1: to you. The Rangers and Astros begin the final push
- 1:34Speaker 1: tonight in the AL West. The Astros lead is one game.
- 1:39Speaker 1: It's effectively two because they have a tiebreaker on the
- 1:44Speaker 1: Rangers who are 74 and 76. I know. And they're
- 1:50Speaker 1: still only a game out. The Astros are 75 up
- 1:55Speaker 1: and 75 down. It is Roberto Clemente day today in
- 2:01Speaker 1: the MLB. Um, Jacob DeGrom is on the mound. The
- 2:09Speaker 1: last time he was on the mound, he was darn
- 2:12Speaker 1: near perfect, literally. Struck out 12 and set all kinds
- 2:19Speaker 1: of records for futility because the Rangers lost that game.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The Red Sox and Rangers, we say eight of their
- 2:31Speaker 1: last 12, nine of their last 12 are at home.
- 2:34Speaker 1: The Rangers have been good at home. They have the
- 2:36Speaker 1: fourth Best record in the American League at home. Patrick
- 2:43Speaker 1: Sandoval on the mound for the Red Sox. We will
- 2:47Speaker 1: see what happens. The Rangers need to win a lot.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And guess what? Aggie Michael Wacca can prevent the Astros
- 2:57Speaker 1: from winning a lot. He is on the mound for
- 3:01Speaker 1: the Royals tonight at the Icebox. We will have that
- 3:07Speaker 1: game for you beginning at 640 right here on The Zone.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Hunter Brown for the enemy against Michael Wacca tonight in Houston.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So we got that going on for us. Yes, September
- 3:26Speaker 1: baseball that actually counts. I know, it's strange. A &
- 3:31Speaker 1: M Safety Marcus Ratcliffe has been named a semifinalist for
- 3:35Speaker 1: the Werfel Award. Ratcliffe, one of 22, and one honorary coach.
- 3:43Speaker 1: The final roster chosen from 162 nominees. Ratcliffe serves as
- 3:50Speaker 1: an ambassador for Mission 312, a charitable initiative for World
- 3:55Speaker 1: War II veterans. And he pledges $ 312 today. For every
- 4:01Speaker 1: turnover recovered by the Aggie defense, he had a really
- 4:05Speaker 1: good day and an expensive day this past Saturday. Of course,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the Aggies have their SEC opener Saturday afternoon at 2.30
- 4:18Speaker 1: against Kentucky. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said the late
- 4:24Speaker 1: collapse against the Longhorns is going to force us to
- 4:28Speaker 1: make some hard decisions. Day said we had an opportunity
- 4:33Speaker 1: to finish the game and knock them out in the
- 4:36Speaker 1: third quarter. It didn't happen. We lost momentum, couldn't get
- 4:39Speaker 1: it back. Ohio State became the first No. 1 team
- 4:44Speaker 1: since 2004. to lose after leading by at least 20
- 4:48Speaker 1: points in the fourth quarter. They had won 115 straight
- 4:54Speaker 1: games when having a 20-point lead. They fell to number
- 5:00Speaker 1: six in the poll. Day said it's extremely frustrating. It's maddening.
- 5:06Speaker 1: We're excited to get back on the field and get
- 5:08Speaker 1: going because the last couple of days haven't been fun
- 5:11Speaker 1: around here. We have to win in the fourth quarter.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Vanderbilt freshman quarterback Jared Curtis will get the start against
- 5:20Speaker 1: North Carolina State Saturday. Curtis, a five-star recruit, has played
- 5:29Speaker 1: in both games operating behind Blaze. Berlowitz, a 6'3, drop-back
- 5:36Speaker 1: passer from Nashville, takes over because he accounted for three
- 5:41Speaker 1: of the four touchdowns. Would Vanderbilt struggle to beat Delaware
- 5:46Speaker 1: this last year? We'll see what happens there. The five
- 5:55Speaker 1: largest American pro sports leagues and their unions are urging
- 6:01Speaker 1: state gambling regulators to combat escalating harassment and violent threats
- 6:09Speaker 1: from sports bettors. the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Major League Soccer.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Does anybody watch Major League Soccer? And their respective players'
- 6:23Speaker 1: unions sent a... If you're gambling on Major League Soccer,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you have a really bad, serious gambling issue. They sent
- 6:33Speaker 1: a letter to gambling regulators in 35 states and the
- 6:38Speaker 1: District of Columbia saying, proposing a lifetime ban from legal
- 6:43Speaker 1: sports books for individuals who harass or threaten professional or
- 6:50Speaker 1: amateur athletes, coaches, officials, team personnel, and their family. Last year,
- 6:57Speaker 1: if you'll remember, Lance McCullers, who's with the Astros, said
- 7:01Speaker 1: he received threats on social media to, quote, find my
- 7:05Speaker 1: kids and murder them against a rough outing against the Reds.
- 7:10Speaker 1: An investigation by Houston police determined a drunk better overseas
- 7:17Speaker 1: was behind those threats. You know, this is the. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: don't know. This is so disingenuous. Because four of these
- 7:31Speaker 1: leagues take a lot of money from sports betting companies.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I mean, a lot. And now it's, ooh, these drunk
- 7:43Speaker 1: bettors are calling and threatening our athletes. What do you expect?
- 7:50Speaker 5: Come on.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So hypocritical. So hypocritical. You want to do something. Quit
- 7:58Speaker 1: taking money from these people and publicizing how easy it
- 8:03Speaker 1: is to place a bet on every single sport. just
- 8:09Speaker 1: saying it's ridiculous they're still going to be cashing those
- 8:14Speaker 1: checks the pga tour has announced its membership eligibility requirements
- 8:21Speaker 1: for the 2028 season which will be the first to
- 8:25Speaker 1: feature the new two-track model that separates players into the
- 8:30Speaker 1: championship series and the challenger series uh The 2027 season
- 8:39Speaker 1: this coming year will feature eligibility guidelines before permanent criteria
- 8:44Speaker 1: are introduced. The two series will run concurrently with players
- 8:49Speaker 1: able to move between the competitions based on performance. The
- 8:53Speaker 1: restructured system promotes upward mobility along with relegation to keep members,
- 9:02Speaker 1: they say, fresh and competitive. It will feature fields of
- 9:06Speaker 1: top performers, accomplished veterans, while the Challenger Series will feature
- 9:12Speaker 1: fields of accomplished players fighting their way back into the
- 9:16Speaker 1: upper echelon. It's a mess. It's just, in my mind, ridiculous.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Rylan Griffin, we talked about this a little bit yesterday,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and Travis Brown of KPTX is following this story. I
- 9:33Speaker 1: want to give him credit. has gotten a temporary restraining
- 9:38Speaker 1: order that prohibits the NCAA from enforcing roster limit rules.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It includes the SEC. The injunction hearing is scheduled for
- 9:53Speaker 1: September 28th. The NCAA is restrained and enjoined from enforcing, applying,
- 10:02Speaker 1: or attempting to enforce or apply the five-for-five rule. I mean,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I thought that that was agreed upon, that players would
- 10:16Speaker 1: be able to play five years with five years of eligibility.
- 10:20Speaker 1: If they wanted to, right? They can't bar Rylan Griffin
- 10:29Speaker 1: from practicing, training, conditioning, traveling, dressing, or otherwise participating in
- 10:33Speaker 1: men's basketball at TAMU. Hey, TAMU, how do you feel
- 10:41Speaker 1: about all of these court stuff that we were railing
- 10:45Speaker 1: about last week with Lane Kiffin? I know it's not safe.
- 10:49Speaker 1: He was trying to get guys who had already participated
- 10:54Speaker 1: in pro workouts. And remember the outrage last year when
- 11:00Speaker 1: Alabama signed Betty Yaco, right? He had been in the
- 11:05Speaker 1: G League, I believe, if I'm not mistaken. But it's
- 11:10Speaker 1: okay now because Rylan Griffin is going to get to play.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And by the way, I'm a big fan of his.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:19Speaker 1: I mean, it's great for A & M, but let's
- 11:23Speaker 1: not hear any more of this outrage about all the
- 11:27Speaker 1: courts being involved with all these athletes. Had a pretty
- 11:32Speaker 1: good basketball player last year as a result of court order.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And as of right now, going to get another one.
- 11:43Speaker 1: We'll see what happens with the hearing on the 28th.
- 11:48Speaker 1: By the way, on Monday, I'm going to be visiting
- 11:56Speaker 1: with author Frank Abrams. He has written a book called
- 12:00Speaker 1: The Slander of Billy the Kid and the Abrams Ten Types.
- 12:07Speaker 1: It is a remarkable story that may or may not
- 12:12Speaker 1: change your mind about Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
- 12:16Speaker 1: We're going to visit with him on Monday. On Tuesday,
- 12:21Speaker 1: as it stands right now, I'm going to be visiting
- 12:27Speaker 1: with author Jeff Apter, who has written a book on
- 12:33Speaker 1: Roy Orbison called Roy Orbison, King of Hearts. Huge Roy
- 12:41Speaker 1: Orbison fan, and I kind of think we'll be playing
- 12:45Speaker 1: his music next Tuesday, didn't know that he was just
- 12:50Speaker 1: the king of Australia. Jeff Apter lives in Australia. So
- 12:55Speaker 1: we're having to work out the 15-hour difference on the
- 13:01Speaker 1: interview with Zooms and all of that. But if everything
- 13:04Speaker 1: works out, we'll have him on next Tuesday afternoon, a
- 13:11Speaker 1: week from today. which will be Wednesday his time. Okay,
- 13:19Speaker 1: we're going to take a break. We're going to hear
- 13:22Speaker 1: from the aforementioned Lane Kiffin when we come back after
- 13:26Speaker 1: this for Chad Jones Law.
- 13:28Speaker 6: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 13:31Speaker 6: do injuries from car wrecks. but you didn't sign up
- 13:34Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 13:35Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left
- 13:38Speaker 6: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 13:41Speaker 6: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 13:43Speaker 6: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop
- 13:46Speaker 6: getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't
- 13:49Speaker 6: get mad, get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at 979-595-5000
- 13:52Speaker 6: or go online to chadjoneslaw.com.
- 13:58Speaker 7: Can't preach your radio?
- 14:00Speaker 8: Listen to Aggie football online at RadioAggieland.com.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna have myself a real good time. I feel alive.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Is that Freddie Mercury? How did I guess that? The
- 14:22Speaker 1: morning show on WTAW this morning was talking about songs
- 14:26Speaker 1: that You just can't sing in karaoke. There are certain songs. Now,
- 14:34Speaker 1: they mentioned Bohemian Rhapsody. You can't duplicate Freddie Mercury, but
- 14:41Speaker 1: there are some parts in there that are kind of sing-alongs.
- 14:44Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I mean, we all know
- 14:50Speaker 1: that some people just shouldn't do karaoke at all. But hey,
- 14:55Speaker 1: if they have enough drinks in them and they're having
- 14:57Speaker 1: a good time, fine. But there are some people you can't,
- 15:04Speaker 1: you know, sing. I would argue that Roy Orbison is
- 15:08Speaker 1: one of those. Now, you can sing some of his songs.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It won't be in the octave that Roy sang in
- 15:12Speaker 1: because he had every octave. Really cool book and story.
- 15:20Speaker 1: So we hope to talk to Jeff after the author
- 15:24Speaker 1: next Tuesday on the show. Okay. As promised, the lane
- 15:30Speaker 1: train returns to Oxford. And by the way, I had
- 15:35Speaker 1: a story, and I don't know what happened to it,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but I read it. They're going to have mounted horsemen,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and they're calling in enforcements for the game Saturday night.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And we talked about this. Pete Golding has.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Beseeched his fans to act properly. Now, as we mentioned yesterday,
- 16:04Speaker 1: with all day drinking at the Grove, I don't know
- 16:09Speaker 1: how proper fans are going to be with Lane Kiffin's
- 16:12Speaker 1: return on Saturday night. I'm sure there will be security,
- 16:19Speaker 1: extra security, I hope they are removing people before, during,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and after the game. The best security would be for
- 16:35Speaker 1: Ole Miss to win the football game, but that may
- 16:38Speaker 1: not happen. It's going to be interesting. It's just a game.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's only a game. Here is Lane Kiffin.
- 16:54Speaker 9: Lane, we can get this out of the way early,
- 16:56Speaker 9: I guess. Everybody's waiting for this one, right?
- 16:59Speaker 1: This week three.
- 17:00Speaker 9: Going back to Oxford, what's the sticky point for you?
- 17:03Speaker 9: Is it memories, seeing your old coaches, facing the team
- 17:06Speaker 9: that you built? What stands out to you?
- 17:11Speaker 10: Well, I think it is unusual. Like you said, one
- 17:13Speaker 10: team you built and then now a new team that
- 17:16Speaker 10: you're building. Probably a really unusual situation that way, but
- 17:22Speaker 10: I know obviously a lot's going to be made about me,
- 17:24Speaker 10: but this is about the players being prepared really well
- 17:27Speaker 10: and playing really well. Pete's not going to tackle anybody.
- 17:30Speaker 10: I'm not going to throw any touchdowns. I used to
- 17:34Speaker 10: say the same thing when we played Coach Saban. He
- 17:38Speaker 10: joked that he wouldn't do very well in coverage at
- 17:40Speaker 10: his age. This is about our guys like I talked
- 17:44Speaker 10: to him today. This is the first SEC game. Both
- 17:48Speaker 10: teams are 2-0. We've got to prepare really well, and
- 17:50Speaker 10: it won't be about all the other stuff and all
- 17:52Speaker 10: the noise and everything. It'll be about how well did
- 17:55Speaker 10: we practice, how well did we prepare, so how well
- 17:57Speaker 10: did we play on game day, going into a place
- 17:59Speaker 10: that has had a lot of success there. You're going
- 18:02Speaker 10: to play to a team that has the second longest
- 18:04Speaker 10: win streak in the country, second long home streak in
- 18:07Speaker 10: the country, has phenomenal players. As you look at last
- 18:11Speaker 10: year at the end of the season, you're talking about
- 18:13Speaker 10: the best playing quarterback, running back, and kicker in the
- 18:17Speaker 10: country coming back. That's going to put you in a
- 18:20Speaker 10: position to win a lot of games. So we're going
- 18:23Speaker 10: to have to prepare really well and play really well
- 18:26Speaker 10: in all areas.
- 18:29Speaker 11: Coach, on the right, Prince Will has five sacks in
- 18:34Speaker 11: two games, like six quarters of football. He had nine
- 18:36Speaker 11: last year. That was top three in the SEC. Twelve's
- 18:39Speaker 11: the record here. I mean, he's on pace for 30,
- 18:41Speaker 11: which is ridiculous. It's not going to happen. But just
- 18:45Speaker 11: what does that do for your defense? It's already clearly–
- 18:49Speaker 11: borderline elite as they go through this schedule, what does
- 18:52Speaker 11: a guy like Prince will do for it?
- 18:53Speaker 10: I'm glad he's on our side. You know, because obviously
- 19:00Speaker 10: we're watching cut-ups throughout the week and we're installing things
- 19:02Speaker 10: with the players, all those things, and it's a very unusual,
- 19:06Speaker 10: like we talked about, situation because I'm sure over time
- 19:10Speaker 10: coaches have gone back to the same place the next year,
- 19:12Speaker 10: but rarely are some of the players on the team
- 19:15Speaker 10: that were on the team the year before. So He
- 19:20Speaker 10: did a great job a year ago there. He's really
- 19:24Speaker 10: one of those guys in that portal. That was a
- 19:26Speaker 10: great class. I know a lot of times people think, well,
- 19:29Speaker 10: we just go and get the top of the market
- 19:31Speaker 10: and outpay people. That's not the case. You've got a
- 19:35Speaker 10: lot of examples like that. I think he had one
- 19:37Speaker 10: sack in Nebraska the year before he came to us.
- 19:41Speaker 10: You all know Trinidad's story from Division II. I think
- 19:44Speaker 10: he was going to go to us or temple and
- 19:46Speaker 10: key one had a hundred yards the year before. So, um,
- 19:49Speaker 10: I really enjoy as we find these guys seeing their production,
- 19:52Speaker 10: especially a lot of times the jump from year one
- 19:55Speaker 10: to year two in his instance. And, um, and he's
- 19:58Speaker 10: really played really hard and, uh, it's been great to see.
- 20:04Speaker 12: Lane, your offense is averaging 7.8 yards on first down.
- 20:07Speaker 9: Um, That success, what does it mean to what you
- 20:10Speaker 9: want to do offensively, and is there any yeah buts
- 20:12Speaker 9: with that?
- 20:14Speaker 10: Yeah, I didn't know that stat. Didn't feel like that Saturday. But, yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 10: we still have been. The one thing we have done
- 20:22Speaker 10: consistently is a lot of explosive plays in our plus-minus
- 20:26Speaker 10: right now. Explosive plays through two games is off the charts,
- 20:29Speaker 10: and I showed them that today. We obviously didn't do
- 20:32Speaker 10: well taking care of the ball in the turnover margin,
- 20:34Speaker 10: but there's an explosive play plus-minus that I show them um,
- 20:39Speaker 10: that we're doing great through two, through two games. And,
- 20:43Speaker 10: you know, over time, you know, we've been the most
- 20:45Speaker 10: explosive play offense in the country. And a lot of
- 20:49Speaker 10: that's first down and that's a big, big part of it.
- 20:51Speaker 10: I think we had the most explosive plays in the
- 20:53Speaker 10: country last year. And so that just really sets everything
- 20:57Speaker 10: up when you're able to do that.
- 21:00Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 14: Coach, um, just another question about the defense. What have
- 21:03Speaker 14: you told them about playing, uh, Trinidad Shambles? I mean, obviously,
- 21:07Speaker 14: you know, I'm very well and, You got to see
- 21:09Speaker 14: him develop pretty rapidly in your system. But just what
- 21:11Speaker 14: is it that the defense needs to do, I guess,
- 21:13Speaker 14: to kind of help with that matchup?
- 21:16Speaker 10: Yeah, that's a big challenge for us. You know, I
- 21:20Speaker 10: broke it down and I said, okay, hey, here's the
- 21:23Speaker 10: best playing quarterback in the country last year when you look.
- 21:26Speaker 4: At how hot he was.
- 21:28Speaker 10: And you can say, okay, well, he's not that experienced
- 21:31Speaker 10: because it was his first year starting there. But he'd
- 21:33Speaker 10: already won a national championship. the best he could possibly
- 21:36Speaker 10: do at the level he was at and then he
- 21:37Speaker 10: took a team to the final four and he doesn't
- 21:40Speaker 10: make many mistakes you got to remember you're dealing with
- 21:43Speaker 10: a really mature quarterback that doesn't make many mistakes so
- 21:47Speaker 10: you're going to have to play really well for a
- 21:48Speaker 10: long period of time I mean Trinidad would be 24
- 21:52Speaker 10: years old now you know still playing college football that's
- 21:55Speaker 10: the same as Drake May and Caleb Williams so you're
- 21:58Speaker 10: dealing with someone that Everybody said, well, not that much
- 22:00Speaker 10: experience because last year was the first year starting at SEC.
- 22:03Speaker 10: He's got a lot of maturity in age and a
- 22:07Speaker 10: lot of plays in big-time games that you're going to
- 22:09Speaker 10: have to play really well for a long period of
- 22:12Speaker 10: time against him.
- 22:14Speaker 7: Problems in the red zone this past week against Louisiana Tech.
- 22:16Speaker 15: What have the conversations been like with Sam to kind
- 22:19Speaker 15: of rectify some of those problems, especially when you're getting
- 22:21Speaker 15: to an SEC defense this week?
- 22:23Speaker 10: Yeah, we showed a lot of that this morning. Anytime,
- 22:26Speaker 10: I always say, the head coach and the quarterback get
- 22:29Speaker 10: too much credit and too much blame. It's just how
- 22:32Speaker 10: it is. A lot of times on interception, it's someone
- 22:36Speaker 10: coming off because a lineman doesn't block the right guy
- 22:38Speaker 10: or a receiver's a little bit short on a route.
- 22:40Speaker 10: We show all that stuff. It's a whole offensive issue
- 22:45Speaker 10: when you turn the ball over and the way that
- 22:49Speaker 10: we played in the red zone. A lot of negative
- 22:53Speaker 10: runs and Really the inability, everybody doing things right, to
- 22:58Speaker 10: finish drives. One of those drives, I think it was
- 23:01Speaker 10: 20 plays. It's got to be a record to go
- 23:03Speaker 10: 20 plays and not get any points, but give the
- 23:07Speaker 10: other team seven on the 20th play. Then go back
- 23:11Speaker 10: on offense. We've had some really lopsided play counts in
- 23:15Speaker 10: the first half due to great defense. Then that situation,
- 23:18Speaker 10: I think the next one might be 28 straight plays
- 23:20Speaker 10: of offense. There's a lot of things doing right to
- 23:26Speaker 10: move the ball, as you see the yardage, whatever, second
- 23:29Speaker 10: in the country, but that doesn't matter. You've got to
- 23:32Speaker 10: finish the drives.
- 23:38Speaker 9: Lane, you spoke previously about Charlie in the past, but
- 23:41Speaker 9: when was it really that he earned your trust as
- 23:43Speaker 9: a play caller?
- 23:43Speaker 7: Because that's something you've done so long in your career.
- 23:45Speaker 7: When did you feel comfortable turning that.
- 23:47Speaker 10: Over to him? It's funny you say Charlie. He was
- 23:51Speaker 10: laughing today when I was talking about Trinidad's maturity and
- 23:54Speaker 10: how hard it is playing against them to the defensive coaches.
- 23:59Speaker 10: Charlie goes, hey coach, you realize when you hired me
- 24:01Speaker 10: in Alabama, I was three years younger than Trinidad is now.
- 24:06Speaker 10: It's kind of amazing to think of it that way.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Charlie's just so far ahead of time with how he thought.
- 24:11Speaker 10: He was a coach's kid that was always thinking about coaching.
- 24:15Speaker 10: His growth, just like a quarterback. You play more, you
- 24:19Speaker 10: get better. As you get older, you get more mature.
- 24:21Speaker 10: As a play caller, you get better, especially when you
- 24:24Speaker 10: learn from the experiences and stuff. So he's been awesome,
- 24:29Speaker 10: and he's done as well as anybody in the country
- 24:31Speaker 10: the last couple years.
- 24:35Speaker 15: Coach, I've had a lot of people ask how Coach
- 24:37Speaker 15: O is doing, and also have you two as friends
- 24:40Speaker 15: kind of joked about the fact that he was also
- 24:42Speaker 15: the head coach at Ole Miss and brought a team
- 24:45Speaker 15: back to LSU, brought a team to Oxford against him?
- 24:49Speaker 10: No, I hadn't. He's doing better. It was a little
- 24:57Speaker 10: bit scary. I'm not going to get into details with that.
- 25:03Speaker 10: He's doing better. He's still not all the way back.
- 25:06Speaker 10: He means a lot to me. We've just been through
- 25:10Speaker 10: a lot. His passion and probably shouldn't have joked one day.
- 25:16Speaker 10: You know, he said, Hey coach, you know, I'm never
- 25:17Speaker 10: going to hospital, man. If I die, I'm dying on
- 25:19Speaker 10: that field out there. So, um, that's who he is.
- 25:22Speaker 10: That's how he is, um, everything. And sometimes that's not
- 25:26Speaker 10: always the best, best thing to follow.
- 25:31Speaker 13: Coach, you talked about what the players have to do
- 25:33Speaker 13: to be able to stop Trinidad, but from a coach's perspective,
- 25:36Speaker 13: what kind of, or how does the preparation change this week,
- 25:39Speaker 13: if at all, with your familiarity with him and some
- 25:42Speaker 13: of the other offensive players?
- 25:44Speaker 10: Well, I think this is a really unusual thing when
- 25:46Speaker 10: you talk about the familiarity with the offensive players, but
- 25:50Speaker 10: there's so much familiarity. You know, when I worked for Saban,
- 25:57Speaker 10: I think after I left, it benefited me as the coordinator,
- 26:01Speaker 10: the opposite side of the head coach, much more than
- 26:03Speaker 10: it benefited him, meaning we went to go play. Like
- 26:07Speaker 10: when we first play, it's the COVID year or whatever,
- 26:10Speaker 10: and it's 60 to 50 because we I had listened
- 26:13Speaker 10: for three years to all the things he would teach
- 26:15Speaker 10: us that he didn't like, you know, and then we
- 26:17Speaker 10: ended up using. So I think in this way, you know,
- 26:21Speaker 10: this benefits them more than us in the coaching way
- 26:24Speaker 10: because Pete sat there and for the years we're together
- 26:28Speaker 10: and hear me say what we don't like to play against. Um,
- 26:31Speaker 10: cause as a head coach on that side of the ball,
- 26:34Speaker 10: save and I are much more going to tell them
- 26:37Speaker 10: what we should play, things that cause us problems. And
- 26:39Speaker 10: the coordinator is going to tell the head coach if
- 26:41Speaker 10: that makes sense. So, There's just a lot of familiarity
- 26:44Speaker 10: that's probably never happened before when people play the next year,
- 26:48Speaker 10: then half the coaches are split, and then they're the
- 26:52Speaker 10: coaches at the previous place, and then a few of
- 26:54Speaker 10: the players are split. But I'd say on that, I
- 27:01Speaker 10: was thinking when I was talking to Michael right before this,
- 27:04Speaker 10: I've told you guys before, in games there's winners and losers,
- 27:08Speaker 10: but sometimes in decisions and things that go on, there's
- 27:10Speaker 10: not always a winner and a loser. He gave me
- 27:13Speaker 10: the stat today. If you think about it, they've been
- 27:16Speaker 10: playing this matchup for a long time. This is the
- 27:19Speaker 10: first time in the last 64 years that both teams
- 27:21Speaker 10: are in the top 10. That says to me it's
- 27:25Speaker 10: the most relevant matchup of these two teams in 64 years,
- 27:29Speaker 10: both teams being that relevant. I think that's a really
- 27:34Speaker 10: neat thing that we were able to be part of
- 27:35Speaker 10: building a program there that Pete's doing a great job
- 27:37Speaker 10: of continuing it as a top 10 program. When we
- 27:41Speaker 10: got there, they'd won four games. When we got here
- 27:44Speaker 10: eight months ago, they were 7-6. So I think it's
- 27:48Speaker 10: a really, really good thing that I think a lot
- 27:51Speaker 10: of people could look at it and say, hey, both
- 27:53Speaker 10: sides are doing really well and both sides won.
- 27:57Speaker 16: Coach, what can you say about Weston Davis' status or
- 28:04Speaker 16: starting jobs on the offensive line going to be a
- 28:06Speaker 16: little more up in the air this week than normal?
- 28:11Speaker 5: No.
- 28:12Speaker 10: You know, there's always competition, how people play, and then
- 28:15Speaker 10: able to get the backups in some. So we always
- 28:18Speaker 10: evaluate that. But nothing's happened up there for any movement
- 28:23Speaker 10: that way.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin talking about going to Oxford on Saturday night.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Game day.
- 28:34Speaker 1: All of the hoopla. LSU's a favorite. LSU's favored still
- 28:41Speaker 1: at minus three. Minus three. Opened there. It's been there.
- 28:47Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It opened at one and a half. Oh, so it's
- 28:50Speaker 1: gone up. It's gone from one and a half to three. Okay. Interesting.
- 28:57Speaker 1: That means LSU money. You know, I don't know. We
- 29:07Speaker 1: don't have.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You know, Ole Miss played a good team to start
- 29:12Speaker 1: the season, I believe. And some of their defense looked shaky.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Not going to lie about that, but I think they
- 29:22Speaker 1: were playing a pretty good offensive team with a pretty
- 29:24Speaker 1: good quarterback. LSU, we don't. I mean, Clemson struggled. They
- 29:32Speaker 1: won 22-7, I think, at home against maybe Georgia Southern.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I think I saw that on Saturday. I mean. you know,
- 29:42Speaker 1: Clemson I don't think is very good. And, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 1: the big deal, I don't think a big deal is
- 29:51Speaker 1: made up, but they struggled in the first half against
- 29:54Speaker 1: Louisiana Tech or whatever, and it's going, hey, they struggled.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I think Texas is going to struggle Saturday against UTSA personally,
- 30:04Speaker 1: especially after last week. I think UTSA is a decent team.
- 30:10Speaker 1: They just had to win, like, in the last 15
- 30:12Speaker 1: seconds against Texas State, which, you know, Texas beat by
- 30:16Speaker 1: 50 or whatever. But I think UTSA is pretty good.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I think Jeff Traylor is a good coach. I think
- 30:23Speaker 1: there will be a huge hangover, you know, this week. So,
- 30:29Speaker 1: LSU struggling in the first half, I don't think that's
- 30:33Speaker 1: a huge deal. I think it's going to be close.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I like the Ole Miss quarterback now, I'm telling you.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I know LSU's been okay. That Levitt's been decent. I
- 30:48Speaker 1: don't know how much he's going to be able to
- 30:50Speaker 1: run around against Ole Miss. We'll see. Be interesting. It's
- 30:58Speaker 1: going to be fun to watch. It's going to be
- 31:00Speaker 1: fun to watch. I just hope it's football, really, seriously.
- 31:07Speaker 1: SEPCHECK Service Center is open right now until 6 o'clock.
- 31:10Speaker 1: These folks have been in business well over half a century.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Leon started this family business, and his goal was always
- 31:20Speaker 1: that the customer was going to be satisfied, that they
- 31:23Speaker 1: were going to be honest in how they dealt with
- 31:25Speaker 1: them and straightforward. The customer was going to be the
- 31:31Speaker 1: person that he focused on, the service. Pat is still
- 31:36Speaker 1: doing that all these years later. So when you go in,
- 31:40Speaker 1: you know that you're going to be taken care of,
- 31:43Speaker 1: whether it's some little something or whether it's something major.
- 31:47Speaker 1: A foreign or domestic car, gasoline or diesel engine, they're
- 31:51Speaker 1: going to take care of all that. There's no better
- 31:53Speaker 1: place to go for emergencies. They're open from 7 to 6,
- 31:56Speaker 1: Monday through Friday, Saturdays from 7 to 4. It's Sevchek
- 32:01Speaker 1: Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just down from the post office
- 32:05Speaker 1: in College Station.

- 33:06Speaker 8: Someone told me long ago There's a calm before.
- 33:26Speaker 4: The storm I know.
- 33:30Speaker 7: It's been coming for some.
- 33:33Speaker 20: Time Welcome into the High School Report I'm Caleb Rapley,
- 33:36Speaker 20: and today we are jumping out to the Polaris Fun
- 33:38Speaker 20: Center phone line to visit with the head coach and
- 33:42Speaker 20: athletic director for the Caldwell Hornets, Mr.
- 33:45Speaker 7: Sean Witherwax. Coach, thanks for joining me today.
- 33:49Speaker 21: Thank you for having me.
- 33:50Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 33:52Speaker 20: So your Hornets have concluded the non-district schedule for the
- 33:57Speaker 20: 2026 football season, one and two so far this year.
- 34:01Speaker 7: Some highlights.
- 34:02Speaker 20: Really tough opponents going up against Wallace Brazos, Somerville, and Lexington.
- 34:07Speaker 20: And like I said, coming out one and two. So
- 34:10Speaker 20: what are some of your takeaways from these non-district games?
- 34:13Speaker 21: Well, you know, we've been battling all year. And again,
- 34:16Speaker 21: we played some really good football teams in Lexington and
- 34:20Speaker 21: Wallace Brazos. And, you know, we've done some things that Well,
- 34:25Speaker 21: and we've done some things that we've really got to
- 34:27Speaker 21: work on. We've got some injuries. We're trying to get
- 34:29Speaker 21: people healed up, and I think we're getting to a
- 34:31Speaker 21: good spot. And so we're just trying to get ready
- 34:34Speaker 21: for district and be healthy and be running on all cylinders.
- 34:38Speaker 20: So the Hornets bring back seven starters on both sides
- 34:42Speaker 20: of the ball, so fairly experienced team. How big of
- 34:46Speaker 20: a strength is that for you as a coach?
- 34:49Speaker 21: Oh, it's unbelievable. Just the things that our kids already
- 34:53Speaker 21: know about what we're doing. It's been great up front
- 34:58Speaker 21: on the offensive line. Having those guys back was unbelievable.
- 35:02Speaker 21: But like I said, we have three injuries in the
- 35:04Speaker 21: offensive line right now. So hopefully we'll have them back
- 35:07Speaker 21: for next year. And defensively, we're putting in a new defense.
- 35:11Speaker 21: And so we're still learning all around.
- 35:14Speaker 20: So this is a new era for Caldwell, dropping down
- 35:18Speaker 20: from 4A Division II to 3A Division I. So a
- 35:22Speaker 20: very different district. after realignment in February. Much larger district
- 35:29Speaker 20: than you had last year, coming in fifth place up
- 35:32Speaker 20: in 4A, but now District 12, 3A Division I. Some really,
- 35:37Speaker 20: you know, storied programs in Franklin, Marina, Rockdale, Cameron, Yo,
- 35:42Speaker 20: just to name a few. So it's going to be,
- 35:45Speaker 20: you know, a pretty tough schedule, but I'm sure your
- 35:49Speaker 20: Hornets are ready for it. So what are your thoughts
- 35:51Speaker 20: on your new district?
- 35:54Speaker 21: You know, being in 4A was tough for us. We
- 35:58Speaker 21: were the smallest team basically in 4A. We were going
- 36:01Speaker 21: against Belleville and Seeley and Madisonville every week. Those are
- 36:07Speaker 21: just teams that we didn't feel like we could really
- 36:09Speaker 21: compete with. Moving down in 3A, it doesn't get a
- 36:13Speaker 21: whole lot easier, but we do feel like numbers-wise and
- 36:16Speaker 21: with the athletes we have, that we can compete a
- 36:18Speaker 21: little bit better against these guys. And like you said,
- 36:22Speaker 21: I just count the number of state championships and those
- 36:25Speaker 21: teams that you just mentioned. It's a good group, and
- 36:28Speaker 21: so it's going to be tough. But we feel good,
- 36:31Speaker 21: and we just want to go into it and see
- 36:33Speaker 21: what we can do.
- 36:34Speaker 20: So since you've taken over as head coach, Caldwell has
- 36:39Speaker 20: every year steadily improved a little bit and building on
- 36:42Speaker 20: that momentum. How are you planning to get the Hornets
- 36:47Speaker 20: back to the playoffs?
- 36:47Speaker 7: What's it going to take?
- 36:48Speaker 21: I think it's just consistent play. Up front on the
- 36:52Speaker 21: offensive line, we've got to do a good job blocking.
- 36:54Speaker 21: We've got to control the line of scrimmage and run
- 36:57Speaker 21: the football to help our defense out. That's where our
- 37:00Speaker 21: strength is. That's what I count on as a head coach.
- 37:05Speaker 21: I've always been the offensive line coach, so I take
- 37:07Speaker 21: pride in that. That's what I look for.
- 37:10Speaker 20: We mentioned that it is a pretty experienced team this year,
- 37:14Speaker 20: but In high school football, one of the things that
- 37:16Speaker 20: every coach has to deal with is holes left.
- 37:19Speaker 7: Over from seniors that graduated.
- 37:22Speaker 20: But who are some young players that have stepped up
- 37:24Speaker 20: in the absence of those players that left?
- 37:27Speaker 21: I think the one that sticks out the most is
- 37:29Speaker 21: number five, John Fryer. He is a two-year starter, but.
- 37:34Speaker 16: He's a junior.
- 37:34Speaker 21: He's played defense for us the last two years. This
- 37:37Speaker 21: year he stepped up. He's our quarterback. He's done a
- 37:40Speaker 21: great job. He's rushed for over a uh, 250 yards
- 37:44Speaker 21: and he's thrown for about 250 yards. And so he's,
- 37:47Speaker 21: he's doing some things well there. Um, crushed range is
- 37:51Speaker 21: another one that I think of is just a good
- 37:54Speaker 21: all around athlete that stepped up. He's playing defense every
- 37:57Speaker 21: down for us and he's getting some, uh, carries in
- 37:59Speaker 21: it running back as well. Uh, just doing a great job.
- 38:03Speaker 21: Out at the wing, we've got Jaden Hagen that's a
- 38:06Speaker 21: junior that can run by people, and he's made a
- 38:10Speaker 21: couple of great catches, got a couple of touchdowns under
- 38:12Speaker 21: his belt already this year. So we've got some guys
- 38:14Speaker 21: that are making plays that have stepped up and trying
- 38:17Speaker 21: to replace those shoes that have gone on. We've got
- 38:22Speaker 21: all those kids that are playing in the college football
- 38:24Speaker 21: right now.
- 38:25Speaker 7: So we are in the bye week for your Hornets.
- 38:28Speaker 20: Like I said, in between non-district and district play, and
- 38:32Speaker 20: it's a much larger district than last year. But how
- 38:35Speaker 20: are you handling this bye week? Do you use it
- 38:38Speaker 20: to prepare for Lorena, your next game, or is it
- 38:42Speaker 20: more of like a rest up and work on the
- 38:44Speaker 20: things that you learned in non-district?
- 38:46Speaker 21: We're going to do a little bit of everything. We've
- 38:48Speaker 21: already been looking at Lorena, and we're going to do
- 38:51Speaker 21: some things that show some things that they're doing as
- 38:55Speaker 21: we break down this week. We are going to try
- 38:58Speaker 21: and get healthy and go back to the basics and
- 39:00Speaker 21: do those things. but we're going to do all those
- 39:03Speaker 21: things working around getting ready for Lorena. Taking it a
- 39:08Speaker 21: little bit easier, working some of those guys that have
- 39:10Speaker 21: been hurt back into practice and doing all that all
- 39:14Speaker 21: while we're thinking about Lorena.
- 39:16Speaker 20: While we're talking about the Lorena Leopards, like we mentioned,
- 39:20Speaker 20: they're a very storied program. Last won a state championship
- 39:24Speaker 20: back in 2021, if I remember correctly. But a couple
- 39:27Speaker 20: of down seasons for them. But they are 2-1 in
- 39:31Speaker 20: their non-district games. So what do you expect to see
- 39:33Speaker 20: from them next Friday?
- 39:36Speaker 21: Just from the little bit that I've seen on film,
- 39:39Speaker 21: they're really good offensively. Their quarterback makes them go. He
- 39:42Speaker 21: throws the ball. around the field, all over the field,
- 39:45Speaker 21: could make all the tough throws. And so we're going
- 39:48Speaker 21: to have to do a good job in our secondary
- 39:50Speaker 21: stopping that. Other than that, you know, it's just we're
- 39:53Speaker 21: going to have to do what we do. They're a
- 39:55Speaker 21: football team. They're our next football team. And so that's
- 39:57Speaker 21: what we're going to get ready for.
- 39:59Speaker 20: And then just kind of more of a big-picture question here.
- 40:03Speaker 20: We talked about how you've built on your success year
- 40:07Speaker 20: after year, steadily improving. So what is– success look like for.
- 40:11Speaker 7: The Hornets this year? What is your end goal for 2026?
- 40:14Speaker 21: You know, we have one goal, and that goal is
- 40:18Speaker 21: to go 1-0 each week. And we've reached it a
- 40:21Speaker 21: few times, and we haven't reached it a few times.
- 40:23Speaker 21: And so we consistently stick to that, and then we
- 40:26Speaker 21: build goals off of that. I think our kids are
- 40:29Speaker 21: excited where we're at right now. I think we're going
- 40:32Speaker 21: to be okay. Our district is tough. I'm not used
- 40:37Speaker 21: to playing the seven games, and so we're going to
- 40:39Speaker 21: have to get used to that. But, you know, I
- 40:41Speaker 21: think every year in our minds we want to get
- 40:43Speaker 21: back into the playoffs. And so that's definitely a goal
- 40:45Speaker 21: that we have out there, and that would be a
- 40:47Speaker 21: great one for our guys to accomplish this year.

- 46:31Speaker 25: Welcome back.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Thanks for being with us.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Coming up, we're going to hear from TJ Searcy. I
- 46:43Speaker 1: want to remind you that tonight is the premiere of
- 46:48Speaker 1: Season 9 for True South on the SEC Network at
- 46:52Speaker 1: 7 o'clock. If you missed our interview with John T.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Edge yesterday, you can catch it on our website at chiphower.com.
- 47:02Speaker 1: You can catch all of our shows there and our
- 47:05Speaker 1: interview highlights there. I don't know why you would miss
- 47:10Speaker 1: a show, but occasionally I will give you an excused
- 47:14Speaker 1: absence to do that. So you can go back and
- 47:18Speaker 1: listen to our interview with John T., TJ Searcy had
- 47:26Speaker 1: six tackles this last Saturday against Arizona State, including the
- 47:33Speaker 1: tip ball that led to the first pick six by
- 47:37Speaker 1: Marco Jones. And I thought that he was the best
- 47:43Speaker 1: player on the field on Saturday, personally. I mean, there
- 47:47Speaker 1: are other guys that, you know, showed up, showed out,
- 47:52Speaker 1: but I thought Searcy was really, really good on Saturday.
- 48:00Speaker 1: He met with some media types today. Let's listen in
- 48:06Speaker 1: to that. Why would you say that you've gotten off
- 48:10Speaker 1: such a fast start this year?
- 48:11Speaker 13: I think we understood that you were really good against
- 48:15Speaker 13: the run last year, but you're getting a lot more
- 48:17Speaker 13: pressure on you.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of focused on it a little bit
- 48:21Speaker 2: this offseason. That's one thing I was really trying to
- 48:23Speaker 2: improve on, just using my length and my power and
- 48:26Speaker 2: my pass rush.
- 48:28Speaker 22: Going up against Jay Payton, it's going to be like
- 48:31Speaker 22: a reunion almost.
- 48:31Speaker 8: What have you learned from him, and how is it going.
- 48:34Speaker 4: To feel against him?
- 48:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Coach Bateman has taught me a lot since I
- 48:38Speaker 2: came into college. My freshman year at Florida, he kind
- 48:41Speaker 2: of taught me a lot about defense and scheme and
- 48:43Speaker 2: stuff like that. It'll be fun to see him again
- 48:46Speaker 2: for sure.
- 48:47Speaker 26: Okay, I told us yesterday he gets a little paranoid
- 48:49Speaker 26: when coaches leave and he has to face them. He
- 48:52Speaker 26: changes terminology. Have you kind of seen that maybe with
- 48:55Speaker 26: the change in terminology, facing a former coach like that?
- 48:58Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
- 48:59Speaker 2: It's definitely not the exact same. We change pretty much
- 49:03Speaker 2: all our terminology.
- 49:04Speaker 26: What do you know about Kentucky and just kind of
- 49:06Speaker 26: the offense you guys.
- 49:07Speaker 27: Are going to be facing this week?
- 49:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this will be my third time playing Kentucky.
- 49:11Speaker 2: So I know they like to try to establish a
- 49:13Speaker 2: run game. They like to kind of try to be physical.
- 49:15Speaker 2: So I feel like, you know what I'm saying, that'll
- 49:18Speaker 2: be the main thing I have to focus on this game.
- 49:20Speaker 26: Elko also mentioned how you probably don't get talked about
- 49:22Speaker 26: enough as far as NFL people, you know, the scouts
- 49:25Speaker 26: are asking about you.
- 49:25Speaker 4: When you hear a coach talk about you globally like that,
- 49:28Speaker 4: what kind of motivation is that for you?
- 49:31Speaker 2: I mean, it feels good to know that, you know
- 49:32Speaker 2: what I'm saying, my coach sees the work that I'm
- 49:35Speaker 2: putting in, but I don't really be focused on the
- 49:38Speaker 2: outside noise too much.
- 49:39Speaker 13: Do you feel like it's made you so effective this year?
- 49:43Speaker 2: Honestly, just working hard. Every day I work hard at practice,
- 49:46Speaker 2: and then when I get to the game, it's the
- 49:48Speaker 2: same thing.
- 49:49Speaker 9: How much did you enjoy that play where you hit
- 49:52Speaker 9: the quarterback and Marco picks it off?
- 49:54Speaker 4: What do you remember about that play?
- 49:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I remember Marco running fast, like too fast.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I was going to try to catch him at first.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I was like, oh, no, he's running too fast. But
- 50:04Speaker 2: it was good to see Marco make a play, you
- 50:05Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, turn up my team. And then,
- 50:08Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, I think we really needed that.
- 50:10Speaker 27: When you're on a defensive line that has so many guys,
- 50:12Speaker 27: you know, Elko and I can't trade, you go 11 deep,
- 50:15Speaker 27: how do you balance wanting to play as much as
- 50:18Speaker 27: possible but also supporting your teammates when they have to
- 50:21Speaker 27: play too?
- 50:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty much just when you get on the field,
- 50:24Speaker 2: give everything you got. Because, you know what I'm saying, like,
- 50:27Speaker 2: you know, as soon as you get a little bit tired,
- 50:29Speaker 2: there's somebody else who's fresh who can come in and
- 50:31Speaker 2: take you right out.
- 50:31Speaker 5: So, it is.
- 50:33Speaker 2: I think having that depth just allows you to play
- 50:35Speaker 2: as hard as you can every snap because you know,
- 50:37Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, there'll be a dude in
- 50:39Speaker 2: there regardless.
- 50:40Speaker 27: Piggybacking off that, he also really attributed the fact that you.
- 50:44Speaker 9: Guys were able to have such a dominant fourth quarter.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Has that depth, did you guys.
- 50:48Speaker 6: Feel fresher out there.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Because you took so deep in rotation?
- 50:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely felt fresh when the fourth quarter came around.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I wasn't too tired at all.
- 50:56Speaker 21: What does that say.
- 50:57Speaker 17: About the defense with, you know, already two games in
- 51:00Speaker 17: and having.
- 51:00Speaker 8: That growth already in one half?
- 51:02Speaker 4: What does that say about the defense.
- 51:04Speaker 11: And all the work you've done for them so far?
- 51:07Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like it's showing that we're going
- 51:09Speaker 2: in the right direction and we're taking the steps to
- 51:11Speaker 2: get to where we want to be.
- 51:14Speaker 26: Have you all had any discussion about this being a
- 51:16Speaker 26: nine-game SEC schedule and just maybe taking a little bit
- 51:19Speaker 26: of a different approach at that extra game?
- 51:22Speaker 2: Um, no, we haven't really talked too much about it. Like,
- 51:25Speaker 2: it's going to be a tougher schedule, like a long schedule,
- 51:27Speaker 2: but that's pretty much the main thing.
- 51:29Speaker 24: To that point, obviously, SEC this week, does it feel
- 51:32Speaker 24: like the energy kind of cranks up now that it's
- 51:33Speaker 24: conference play?
- 51:35Speaker 2: Um, honestly, we still preparing the same way. Like, it
- 51:38Speaker 2: hasn't really too much changed for us.
- 51:40Speaker 13: What has having head coach E-Rob back.
- 51:43Speaker 21: Done for the defensive line?
- 51:46Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I like coach E-Rob a lot. He bring
- 51:48Speaker 2: great culture, you know what I'm saying? And, uh, He
- 51:52Speaker 2: got experience in it. So, yeah, it's great to learn
- 51:56Speaker 2: a lot from E-Rock.
- 51:59Speaker 1: All right, that's T.J. Searcy. This is only the fourth
- 52:06Speaker 1: time that A & M and Kentucky have played. They
- 52:11Speaker 1: played in 2018.
- 52:13Speaker 2: And.
- 52:20Speaker 1: They played back in the early 50s here when Bear
- 52:25Speaker 1: Bryant was the head coach. Then he left and came
- 52:29Speaker 1: to Texas A & M. So, you know, there's a
- 52:34Speaker 1: little history here. And A & M came real close
- 52:39Speaker 1: to getting a second Kentucky coach. I mean, there's... There's
- 52:49Speaker 1: all kinds of stories of Mark Stoops and his jet
- 52:52Speaker 1: sitting on the tarback out at Easterwood, ready to be
- 52:58Speaker 1: introduced as the new head coach and getting a phone
- 53:01Speaker 1: call and saying, hey, you're not the new head coach.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Turn around and go back. So despite the fact that
- 53:14Speaker 1: these teams haven't played very much, very little, There is
- 53:20Speaker 1: kind of a deep history there. And they will play
- 53:25Speaker 1: at 2.30. I'm sure it will be nice and cool
- 53:28Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon. It was brutal this last week. But, hey, 107,000
- 53:33Speaker 1: more showed up. Very impressive. And then it's on to
- 53:41Speaker 1: Baton Rouge after that. And then it's back to Arkansas.
- 53:45Speaker 1: We don't know what time that's going to be. We
- 53:49Speaker 1: know the Citadel is at noon. We know that the
- 53:57Speaker 1: Texas game is at night. And we'll find out the
- 54:02Speaker 1: rest week by week, some days 10 days at a time,
- 54:06Speaker 1: some days that week. And I saw, where did I see?
- 54:15Speaker 1: Joe Tessitore, I believe, is on the call for questions.
- 54:21Speaker 1: for ESPN let me double check that and let's see
- 54:31Speaker 1: let me look I saw that but I think Joe
- 54:34Speaker 1: Tessitore is going to be calling the game it is
- 54:41Speaker 1: Joe Tessitore and then Jesse Palmer and Chris Budden okay
- 54:49Speaker 1: so there you go I like all of them, actually.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Weren't they here this week? They were here this last week, right?
- 54:56Speaker 1: Same crew. Alright, that's what I thought. Okay. Yeah, that
- 55:04Speaker 1: game will kick off at 2.30, all of our coverage.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Then we'll begin at 10.30, four hours before kickoff. We'll
- 55:14Speaker 1: do the pregame show. Then Louie and Dusty will be
- 55:19Speaker 1: around for the post-game show after the game. So, hey, wall-to-wall. Again,
- 55:28Speaker 1: I will say there's no reason ever to turn off
- 55:32Speaker 1: the zone. Just turn it on and break the dials
- 55:37Speaker 1: off and break the volume. Well, you can keep the
- 55:39Speaker 1: volume as long as it's on high enough. MarbleCraft has
- 55:45Speaker 1: been part of our community for For over 25 years,

- 58:29Speaker 1: about Romy Orbison? Well, I'm going to have an author
