Latest / Foul Territory / Ken Rosenthal’s Inside Scoop: Padres sale update, Giants start slow + Yankees pursued Paul Skenes
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: We're hitting the inside Scoup.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's presented by Game Changer, the number one youth sports
- 0:08Speaker 2: app here is FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal. So, Ken, Wow,
- 0:13Speaker 2: that's a great view set the scene of where you're
- 0:15Speaker 2: at and what to expect this weekend.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I love that.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I'm an Oracle Park and we're getting ready for the
- 0:20Speaker 3: second game of the Yankees Giant series. I've got the
- 0:23Speaker 3: Fox game tomorrow, so I'm talking to people getting ready
- 0:26Speaker 3: for that, and it is an amazingly beautiful day in
- 0:30Speaker 3: the day area. It's like, I don't know, eighty degrees maybe,
- 0:33Speaker 3: and it's just unusually warm for this time of year,
- 0:36Speaker 3: and people are.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Lovingly wait, wait till the game, Ken, Yeah, wait till
- 0:41Speaker 4: the game. Make sure you have your sweater on, because
- 0:43Speaker 4: people who haven't been to San Francisco it's hot in
- 0:46Speaker 4: BP and you come out and you're like, holy crap.
- 0:50Speaker 4: But the Yankees came out hot. Are the Giants gonna
- 0:54Speaker 4: be able to come out hot in game two? Just
- 0:56Speaker 4: like the weather changes?
- 0:58Speaker 5: Well, I don't know, they're facing camp slip.
- 1:00Speaker 3: And this guy we saw him in the playoffs last year,
- 1:03Speaker 3: we saw him down the stretch for the Yankees.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Really the whole year.
- 1:06Speaker 3: He is special and Yankees you're expecting big things from him.
- 1:11Speaker 5: He could do their first home grown ace in a while.
- 1:13Speaker 3: And I don't know if the Giants are going to
- 1:16Speaker 3: be how they're going to handle him today. Robbie Ray's
- 1:20Speaker 3: going for the Giants. Obviously, it's baseball. Anything can happen.
- 1:23Speaker 3: We've seen a lot of great pictures already, get kind
- 1:26Speaker 3: of beating around a little bit.
- 1:28Speaker 5: So who knows?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Hey, Ken, question for you while you're out in San Francisco.
- 1:34Speaker 2: The Giants had this dynasty run right where they won
- 1:37Speaker 2: three titles in five years. What's the viewpoint right now
- 1:40Speaker 2: from San Francisco over to La It's the one team
- 1:43Speaker 2: we haven't gotten to today. Of course, they had like
- 1:45Speaker 2: all the popping circumstance, Will Farrell driving around, Freddie Freeman
- 1:49Speaker 2: and Miguel Rojas and they win eight too. So I
- 1:51Speaker 2: don't know what would you use? Is there is there jealousy?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Is there envy? Or they're like, hey, they're having their run.
- 1:56Speaker 2: We had ours not too long ago.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I don't know that they've worried so much about the
- 2:01Speaker 3: Dodgers as they are themselves, Scott and they should be
- 2:04Speaker 3: worried about themselves. They've had four straight years where they've
- 2:07Speaker 3: been right around five hundred, maybe two games over, one
- 2:10Speaker 3: game under three hundred whatever. It's been that kind of
- 2:14Speaker 3: mediocre stretch for them. And what they're trying to do
- 2:17Speaker 3: is get back to what you were talking about, the
- 2:19Speaker 3: three titles in five years, twelve, I'm sorry, twenty ten, twelve, fourteen,
- 2:25Speaker 3: hard to do, hard to do, and you've got a
- 2:26Speaker 3: behamoth like the Dodgers in your division. But at the
- 2:30Speaker 3: same time, they just need to get themselves straight.
- 2:32Speaker 5: They've got a.
- 2:33Speaker 3: New manager, we all know that, Tony Vaitelo. They brought
- 2:36Speaker 3: in a number of players as well over the last
- 2:39Speaker 3: twelve months, starting with Devers.
- 2:41Speaker 5: We'll see how it plays out.
- 2:43Speaker 3: But they are just trying to be an above average
- 2:48Speaker 3: team again, that's what they have not been some time, Franklin.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And the one thing I will give them credit, there's
- 2:53Speaker 2: a lot more star power names that you know right
- 2:57Speaker 2: with the Giants, they've done a nice job of that
- 3:00Speaker 2: in the division. We haven't gotten to this on the
- 3:01Speaker 2: show either, and wanted to get your take since you
- 3:03Speaker 2: were part of the article in The Athletic where we
- 3:06Speaker 2: at with the potential Padres sale looks like they're going
- 3:09Speaker 2: to sell for a healthy number.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Very healthy number.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And the report that we had the other day Dennis
- 3:15Speaker 3: lenn and I was that they are looking possibly at
- 3:18Speaker 3: three point five billion. It's a billion over the previous record,
- 3:22Speaker 3: which was for the New York Mets.
- 3:24Speaker 5: This is the San Diego Padres.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Now you might ask, well, why is this happening, Why
- 3:29Speaker 3: this demand sudden in for the Padres.
- 3:31Speaker 5: A couple of things, one and many. Most of all,
- 3:35Speaker 5: there are four groups here.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Most of them have California roots in some fashion or another,
- 3:42Speaker 3: and you're not seeing California teams come up for sale,
- 3:45Speaker 3: So that's a rare thing. And obviously California is a
- 3:48Speaker 3: desirable place. San Diego is a desirable market with the
- 3:52Speaker 3: beautiful ballpark. But the Padres also deserve credit for putting
- 3:56Speaker 3: themselves in this position.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Where they are not clearly a.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Small market team in terms of at least their attendance
- 4:04Speaker 3: revenue anymore.
- 4:04Speaker 5: TV's a different story.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It's a problem all its own, but by the late
- 4:09Speaker 3: Peter side, and they're spending all the money that he
- 4:11Speaker 3: did and committing to.
- 4:12Speaker 5: The players that he did. It has transformed the franchise.
- 4:15Speaker 5: It has elevated them.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Now you might ask, well, why can't other small market
- 4:20Speaker 3: teams do this?
- 4:21Speaker 5: And that's a fair question. But MLB people will.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Say Cleveland their owner, Cincinnati their owner.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Pittsburgh, et cetera.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Those guys do not have the money that Peter Sidler did.
- 4:32Speaker 5: They can't operate by that.
- 4:35Speaker 3: That might be true, but it also might be true
- 4:37Speaker 3: that maybe baseball needs some new owners and Cleveland's getting one.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Cleveland's gonna have David Blitzer there at some point soon.
- 4:44Speaker 3: And it's a real interesting question too, Scott, as we
- 4:47Speaker 3: get into the CBA year, the labor year right now,
- 4:52Speaker 3: and once this deal goes down, don't say the numbers
- 4:55Speaker 3: three point two, a, three point zero.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Whatever number's gonna be. It's gonna be about three it
- 4:59Speaker 5: looks like. Then I'm sure people on the.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Union side will say, well, look, this demonstrates how healthy
- 5:06Speaker 3: the sport is. Team selling for three million in that market,
- 5:09Speaker 3: come on.
- 5:10Speaker 5: And then I'm sure owners will say it doesn't solve
- 5:12Speaker 5: any of the competitive issues. This is a unique outlier
- 5:15Speaker 5: type of situation.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And then will be the usual disagreement as.
- 5:18Speaker 5: There always seems to d between these parties.
- 5:22Speaker 6: Yes, as usual, that'll be interesting. Like you said, I
- 5:25Speaker 6: want to talk about the rookies first game of the
- 5:28Speaker 6: year for some of these guys, what's one guy that
- 5:30Speaker 6: stood out to you where you could see this trickle
- 5:33Speaker 6: effect of him taking off and being that rookie of
- 5:36Speaker 6: the year.
- 5:37Speaker 3: McGonagall for sure, Todd and Weather home posts. Now it's
- 5:41Speaker 3: one game. I don't have to tell you, guys, it's
- 5:43Speaker 3: just one game. But McGonagall hit offspring. What he does
- 5:48Speaker 3: is hit goes four to five yesterday, first picks double
- 5:52Speaker 3: right off the bat.
- 5:52Speaker 5: There's major league debut this kid. I've said this and
- 5:56Speaker 5: I believe it.
- 5:57Speaker 3: If he is what we saw or some similarly with
- 6:00Speaker 3: what we've seen, that's a different team all of a sudden.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It's a team with a more dynamic confidence and when
- 6:07Speaker 3: you put that.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Together with their pitchings.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I've got Valdez going today, it's a pretty impressing maybe
- 6:14Speaker 3: even a World Series type club Weather all the sorts
- 6:17Speaker 3: in a different situation with the big home run of today's.
- 6:20Speaker 5: The Cardinals are rebuilding and he's getting the chants with.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Them, and for that reason alone, I kind of like
- 6:25Speaker 3: as looking into your chances because they're going to play
- 6:28Speaker 3: and we'll see how it turns out. There are a
- 6:31Speaker 3: number of tremendous rookies this year, especially, I would say,
- 6:35Speaker 3: in the National League, and we haven't even seen kind
- 6:37Speaker 3: of Griffin yet. He's gonna start the We're in TRIPAA,
- 6:39Speaker 3: so it's a really exciting time to the sport seeing
- 6:42Speaker 3: these guys come to you the league.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Right now, right we're gonna hit your twelve, your twelve
- 6:49Speaker 4: intriguing storylines. Which of those twelve do you feel like
- 6:53Speaker 4: are your favorite? You have to choose a favorite, But
- 6:55Speaker 4: which of the twelve do you feel like super ce
- 6:58Speaker 4: the other ones?
- 7:02Speaker 5: That's a good question. Eric I would.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Say the labor one that I wrote was my favorite,
- 7:07Speaker 3: only because he pointed out something that we've come to
- 7:12Speaker 3: simply not expect anymore. That's the possibility of a CBA
- 7:16Speaker 3: happening during the season or shortly thereafter before the expiration
- 7:22Speaker 3: of the agreement.
- 7:22Speaker 5: And what I referred back to was my first year
- 7:24Speaker 5: at Box two thousand and six, and that year.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I got a call from one of our executives during
- 7:30Speaker 3: the World Series and he said, get ready, there's an
- 7:33Speaker 3: announcement imminent and we're gonna have a CBA announced tonight,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and you're gonna have to interview the commissioner, Bud Selig,
- 7:40Speaker 3: and the editing union don fear on the field. So
- 7:43Speaker 3: that did come to pass. It was like October twenty fourth,
- 7:47Speaker 3: and my goodness, we don't expect anything like that this year.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Rob Bamford has already.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Said he'd use the lockout as a strategic foe in negotiations.
- 7:57Speaker 5: So I was just pointing out in that, but it
- 8:00Speaker 5: doesn't have to be this way.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Even though we all expect it to be this win,
- 8:05Speaker 3: we're primed for it to be.
- 8:06Speaker 4: This win, which will be the least likely to be
- 8:10Speaker 4: repeated if it happens this year. The Dodgers three peat
- 8:14Speaker 4: or the Tarik Schooble three peat. Those were two of
- 8:18Speaker 4: your other intriguing storylines from the article.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I would say both unlikely, but I would go with
- 8:24Speaker 3: schoolball actually, and I know everybody thinks, oh my gosh,
- 8:27Speaker 3: the Dodgers are gonna win.
- 8:28Speaker 5: They win every year.
- 8:28Speaker 3: They don't win every year. This is a relatively recent phenomenon,
- 8:32Speaker 3: and Schooble, as we saw again yesterday, remains one of
- 8:36Speaker 3: the dominant pickers in the sports, and a third straight
- 8:39Speaker 3: side young should be within his reach now.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Garret Crochet is going to be right there with him.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Again.
- 8:45Speaker 5: You might see someone else emerge.
- 8:47Speaker 3: But I kind of like School's chances been than I
- 8:50Speaker 3: like the Dodgers because in the playoffs. I know it
- 8:52Speaker 3: hasn't happened in the last two years, but he came
- 8:54Speaker 3: close to happening in the playoffs, and you can get upset.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Things can happen, you can get beat.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very close if you look at that
- 9:03Speaker 2: Blue Jays series and how close they were to winning
- 9:05Speaker 2: multiple times.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Ken, thank you.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Enjoy it out there the beautiful day, and then stay
- 9:10Speaker 2: warm at night and have a great weekend. We'll look
- 9:12Speaker 2: forward to you on Fox on Saturday. Nice guys, Thank you.
- 9:17Speaker 2: That's FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal, part of Inside Scoop,
- 9:21Speaker 2: which is presented by Game Changer Today.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Go check it out.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It's the number one youth sports app. It helps you
- 9:26Speaker 2: coach smarter, connect live and replay the action and you
- 9:28Speaker 2: can learn more at GC dot com and wherever you are.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You can watch your kid play in their little league games.
- 9:36Speaker 2: This is it Kratz opening weekend of the season, and
- 9:40Speaker 2: if you're looking for tickets for an MLB game and
- 9:42Speaker 2: they're either sold out or you're just a little bit
- 9:45Speaker 2: lost and you need some help. Seekek is there for you.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It's not just a spot where you buy the tickets,
- 9:51Speaker 2: is where you feel good about buying the tickets because
- 9:53Speaker 2: they have your back with their features.
- 9:56Speaker 4: And you know you're going to get the good price.
- 9:58Speaker 4: That's the deal that everybody's looking for. But especially early
- 10:01Speaker 4: in the season up here in the Northeast, you kind
- 10:04Speaker 4: of want to go to a day game where you're
- 10:05Speaker 4: still going to be in the sun. It might shift
- 10:07Speaker 4: during the summer, but hey, you know what, Seek will
- 10:10Speaker 4: let you know exactly where you're sitting and if it's
- 10:12Speaker 4: a good spot to watch the game.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That's right.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Each ticket is rated on a scale of one to ten,
- 10:16Speaker 2: so you know you're getting a good deal. So look
- 10:18Speaker 2: for the green dots. Green means good, red means bad.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And of course we have a code for you. You
- 10:22Speaker 2: can use code Territory ten for ten percent off your
- 10:25Speaker 2: next set of tickets at Sea Geek. That's ten percent
- 10:27Speaker 2: off any tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make
- 10:31Speaker 2: sure you click the link in the description to download
- 10:33Speaker 2: the app and have the code automatically added to your
- 10:35Speaker 2: account so you can use it later adding rumors. You
- 10:42Speaker 2: gotta love when the first game of the season goes
- 10:45Speaker 2: down and all of a sudden you see a rumor
- 10:47Speaker 2: pop up from a trade proposal. Last year during the
- 10:50Speaker 2: trade deadline, so the Yankees got word that Paul Schmes
- 10:55Speaker 2: might be interested in joining their party when he's a
- 10:58Speaker 2: free agent.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So they were like, let's try to make this an
- 11:00Speaker 1: earlier or a deal.
- 11:02Speaker 2: They apparently called the pirates, John Hayman of The Post said,
- 11:05Speaker 2: and were willing to throw their top four prospects their way,
- 11:08Speaker 2: or four of their top prospects.
- 11:10Speaker 1: We didn't get the exact names.
- 11:12Speaker 2: But if you look at some of the top prospects
- 11:15Speaker 2: on their list at the time, George Lombard Junior, who
- 11:17Speaker 2: could be the shortstop of the future for the Yanks.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Spencer Jones, who's been talked about a ton. He's iron
- 11:21Speaker 2: judge size and is using with potential if he limits
- 11:24Speaker 2: the swing and miss Carlos Lagrange or however you say,
- 11:27Speaker 2: a Todd Father, I'll learn it once he gets to
- 11:29Speaker 2: the show. But he stole the show, Lene, He sold
- 11:31Speaker 2: the show in spring training.
- 11:33Speaker 1: He looks like a.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Dominant, dominant arm that's coming soon for the Yanks. Cam
- 11:36Speaker 2: Schlitler was also on that list at the time, so
- 11:39Speaker 2: it could have been quite a pretty package for the Pirates.
- 11:41Speaker 1: But they didn't even listen.
- 11:42Speaker 2: They didn't even want to hear Todd father what the
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yanks had to say because of how damn good Paul
- 11:47Speaker 2: Skeens is and what he means to the franchise. I
- 11:50Speaker 2: love the timing how this comes out. You know, right
- 11:52Speaker 2: on opening day Skeens gets lit up a little bit,
- 11:55Speaker 2: only partially his faults not hard contact and some miscues
- 12:00Speaker 2: in the outfield by O'Neil Cruz.
- 12:03Speaker 1: But your thoughts on the Yankees giving into the good.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Old college try to get the best picture in the
- 12:08Speaker 2: National League.
- 12:10Speaker 6: You guys know me very well when it comes to trades.
- 12:15Speaker 6: I love a guy that's been established. I love a
- 12:19Speaker 6: guy even though it's been what a cup of tea,
- 12:22Speaker 6: as they'd like to say, a cup of coffee for him.
- 12:25Speaker 6: He's the top picture, one of the top pictures in
- 12:29Speaker 6: baseball one maybe two. This guy is incredible. I would
- 12:34Speaker 6: get rid of all the prospects for a guy like this,
- 12:37Speaker 6: you know how I am. I would do that in
- 12:40Speaker 6: a heartbeat. I think it's a great try. I think
- 12:43Speaker 6: it is Ultimately it didn't work out, But I like
- 12:48Speaker 6: that they're trying. I do. I do let a guy
- 12:51Speaker 6: like George Lombard Junior if he was one of them
- 12:54Speaker 6: to go prosper if with another team, I don't know,
- 12:59Speaker 6: trade I would have in another prospect to get them,
- 13:01Speaker 6: if you want the truth. So for me, the fact
- 13:05Speaker 6: that they didn't want to even hear it that that
- 13:07Speaker 6: that doesn't sit well with me because you always want
- 13:09Speaker 6: to hear somebody out. But again, prospects their prospects for
- 13:14Speaker 6: a reason. For now, trade them all and get a
- 13:16Speaker 6: superstar and Paul Skins throw somebody else in there. I
- 13:19Speaker 6: I love everything about that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the pirates could get to a point
- 13:24Speaker 2: crats where they do have to trade schemes. Not yet,
- 13:27Speaker 2: it's too soon. Yeah, will you think? Yeah?
- 13:31Speaker 1: I tend to.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Agree because I think what will happen is what you think.
- 13:38Speaker 1: No, no, no, I do.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I think they will trade him, But I don't think
- 13:41Speaker 2: they're going to trade him ntil maximum two years away
- 13:44Speaker 2: from free agency totally. Yes, even more likely probably a
- 13:48Speaker 2: year away from free agency, because they're going to do
- 13:50Speaker 2: everything they can to throw the bag at him and
- 13:53Speaker 2: see if he'll bite at it. Right, and just find
- 13:55Speaker 2: out what's the number. I mean, at this point, already
- 13:58Speaker 2: at that you think already late, we're already at the
- 14:01Speaker 2: stage where.
- 14:02Speaker 1: We're talking on an extension. What a number in the fours.
- 14:06Speaker 2: It's got to be the biggest contract of all time.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I don't care that you're hitting free agency still a
- 14:09Speaker 2: few years from now.
- 14:10Speaker 1: It's it's big, dude. It's at least deep into the threes.
- 14:14Speaker 4: It's deep into the threes. But we've never even gotten
- 14:16Speaker 4: into the twos for a contract extension of a pre
- 14:20Speaker 4: arb pitcher. So if that's what we're talking about, like,
- 14:22Speaker 4: I can't say it's going to be fours, and I
- 14:25Speaker 4: don't think he accepts anything less than a four. Like,
- 14:28Speaker 4: to me, this isn't this isn't necessarily a discussion about
- 14:32Speaker 4: Paul Skene's you know, future extension worth. It's about the
- 14:36Speaker 4: fact that can the pirates afford what he's going to
- 14:40Speaker 4: get in arbitration. He's going to break records each three
- 14:45Speaker 4: years that he's going to be there. So to me,
- 14:47Speaker 4: the pirates have this year and next year, I think
- 14:50Speaker 4: they'd be willing to probably pay him whatever the max
- 14:54Speaker 4: a pitcher has ever gotten. And then add six million
- 14:57Speaker 4: to it for his first year of arbitrary Like it's
- 15:01Speaker 4: just it's gonna be a crazy, crazy discussion. And so
- 15:06Speaker 4: to say you would get four prospects back from it,
- 15:09Speaker 4: one of those four guys is in the big leagues
- 15:11Speaker 4: this year. I don't care where you think, Spencer Jones
- 15:14Speaker 4: or Legranghey or or you know, Lombard Junior is gonna
- 15:19Speaker 4: be like, there's one dude that's in the big leagues
- 15:22Speaker 4: right now, Like that's and you're giving up a It's
- 15:26Speaker 4: a great move by the by the Yankees. I heard
- 15:29Speaker 4: Charlie Manuel. I've said it before on the show. When
- 15:31Speaker 4: John Carlos Stanton first got caught up to the big leagues.
- 15:34Speaker 4: A reporter because Charlie Manuel loves Homers. He goes the
- 15:37Speaker 4: reporter goes, hey, who would you trade for John Carlos Stanton?
- 15:42Speaker 4: He goes, what, Well, I would trade. I would trade
- 15:45Speaker 4: Roy Holliday. I would trade koloop Lee too, Like who
- 15:49Speaker 4: else do they want? Like I want Paul Skeens. Is
- 15:52Speaker 4: that guy you give up the farm? Because all of
- 15:55Speaker 4: a sudden, you're winning game one of every every playoff
- 15:59Speaker 4: series or game two if Cole Hamil's pitches game one.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I mean.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Garrek Cole, Garret Cole pitches game.

- 17:25Speaker 6: And listen to kind of button this up. Remember one
- 17:28Speaker 6: show Heo Tani was the dude for the Angels. Why
- 17:31Speaker 6: they didn't try it? They could have got twenty prospects
- 17:34Speaker 6: for this dude. Angels messed up. Pirates better not mess
- 17:37Speaker 6: this one up.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Yep.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I'm with you, guys. I just think it's too soon.
- 17:41Speaker 2: So I think them hanging up the phone now is okay?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Them hanging up the phone when he's two years out
- 17:47Speaker 2: of free agency and if he has not agreed to
- 17:49Speaker 2: anything yet at that point, it's not okay.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And I think, no.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Matter what happens, even if the Pirates have a better
- 17:55Speaker 2: year this year and eventually Connor Griffin comes up and
- 17:58Speaker 2: he shines, there is a trust issue, there's going to
- 18:03Speaker 2: be a trust issue based on the past ten years.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's not how they've treated Paul. They're treating him great.
- 18:07Speaker 2: It's just how the team has performed and how they've
- 18:10Speaker 2: spent their resources over the past ten years. And when
- 18:12Speaker 2: you look around the League and your Paul and he's
- 18:14Speaker 2: not stupid and all he I don't want to say
- 18:16Speaker 2: all he cares about is winning. But he's one of
- 18:18Speaker 2: those dogs, right, Like, look at him and the emotion
- 18:21Speaker 2: that he had in the World Baseball Classic versus when
- 18:23Speaker 2: he found out he won his.
- 18:25Speaker 1: First award in the Biggs.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Right, there is your difference between what he cares about
- 18:29Speaker 2: and what is a little lower on the totem pole.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So if you're him Kratz and you're thinking about your
- 18:34Speaker 2: brain long term, you have to get over the hump,
- 18:37Speaker 2: even if the number is big, and say, do I
- 18:40Speaker 2: trust this team is going to put winning pieces around
- 18:42Speaker 2: me so I can consistently get that feeling, that adrenaline
- 18:45Speaker 2: rush in the postseason with the Pirates. That's the thing
- 18:48Speaker 2: he has to think about. All he has to do
- 18:50Speaker 2: is look over to Anaheim and look at Mike Traft's career,
- 18:53Speaker 2: and he's barely touched the playoffs. You know the money's
- 18:56Speaker 2: going to be close enough, right if he takes an
- 18:58Speaker 2: extension with the Pirates now versus waiting or saying, hey,
- 19:02Speaker 2: I'm not going to take something, so I'm going to
- 19:03Speaker 2: get traded, Chances are you're going to end up with
- 19:06Speaker 2: a team that's going to put you in a better
- 19:08Speaker 2: position to win on a yearly basis.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't.
- 19:12Speaker 4: See I don't see any I don't see any amount
- 19:15Speaker 4: of money that is going to be able to line
- 19:17Speaker 4: up where Paul Skeins gets his value to stay and
- 19:21Speaker 4: not win, or he or the pirates are like, hey,
- 19:24Speaker 4: you know what, we're definitely going to do this, Like
- 19:26Speaker 4: they pushed the one hundred million dollar limit and then
- 19:29Speaker 4: it was like, oh, that's it, one hundred million. We're good,
- 19:32Speaker 4: We're over that, done Ski.
- 19:35Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:35Speaker 4: I just think I think if there's a chance to
- 19:38Speaker 4: win there, Paul Skeins does want to win.
- 19:40Speaker 1: There.
- 19:40Speaker 4: He said it, And it doesn't matter what he said
- 19:42Speaker 4: like oh we'd love to play for the Yankees. No,
- 19:44Speaker 4: all he means is he'd love to win. And if
- 19:47Speaker 4: winning is the most important thing, a few million here
- 19:51Speaker 4: and there, you're always going to make more in free
- 19:53Speaker 4: agency and this dude, that's that's where he's going to go.
- 19:57Speaker 4: And I don't see him. I don't see him, excepted
- 20:00Speaker 4: accepting any extension where they both meet up.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Last point here, I want to make sure this is
- 20:08Speaker 2: like my point is clear here. Those four players we
- 20:12Speaker 2: mentioned for Paul Skins, you take it every day of
- 20:14Speaker 2: the week, Todd Father. There were many people online that
- 20:18Speaker 2: were trying to go through the accolades for the prospects
- 20:21Speaker 2: and then also what Schlitler has done in his short
- 20:25Speaker 2: time in the big leagues.
- 20:26Speaker 1: No, I'm sorry. No, Well, if you're on.
- 20:30Speaker 2: That side of the argument with a few years of
- 20:34Speaker 2: schemes too, right, you want to have an argument like
- 20:37Speaker 2: if they want to trade him at the deadline on
- 20:39Speaker 2: his free agent year and they're asking for this, cool,
- 20:41Speaker 2: we can have that conversation.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But with many years.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Of control over Paul Skins, top two pitcher in the Biggs,
- 20:47Speaker 2: you never get that opportunity.
- 20:49Speaker 1: You take that every damn day of the week. Is
- 20:51Speaker 1: there a line?
- 20:52Speaker 2: Sure, you're not going to empty at your major league club,
- 20:54Speaker 2: but three prospects and a promising pitcher for a top
- 20:59Speaker 2: two in the Biggs?
- 21:00Speaker 1: Mm hmm I and.
- 21:02Speaker 6: And if I'm gonna, if I'm gonna Detroit Tigers, I
- 21:04Speaker 6: would have Now that I know I'm calling the Yankees. Hey,
- 21:07Speaker 6: I got schoobl over here. Let's talk. Let's talk. I mean, listen,
- 21:11Speaker 6: it's schemes are scooball. I don't see why there couldn't
- 21:14Speaker 6: be another conversation with them too.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I mean, Tigers are gonna be it. I think that's
- 21:20Speaker 4: that's gonna be the difference. But to me, when the
- 21:22Speaker 4: first Skien stuff first came out, we didn't hear about
- 21:25Speaker 4: this stuff. But I talked to a scout of a
- 21:28Speaker 4: team that wanted Scheens, which is just any team that
- 21:31Speaker 4: is in the playoffs. Every team would want Skiens. So
- 21:34Speaker 4: that we can put that to rest. It's not just
- 21:35Speaker 4: the Yankees, he said, it's not hard for a team
- 21:38Speaker 4: that wants schemes like that's a no brainer. It's because
- 21:41Speaker 4: if he gets hurt or something like that happens, like
- 21:45Speaker 4: you can't control that kind of stuff. It's the team.
- 21:47Speaker 4: It's the Pirates coming back. You can't miss you can't
- 21:51Speaker 4: miss on that because look at what happened, Look at
- 21:53Speaker 4: what happened with the Gnats. The Nats got rid of
- 21:56Speaker 4: Wan Soto with two plus years to go because he
- 22:01Speaker 4: wouldn't sign. He wouldn't sign the extension for four hundred
- 22:04Speaker 4: and fifteen million, and they got back Mackenzie Gore from
- 22:07Speaker 4: the padres, cj Abrams, James Wood and Haslin too. So,
- 22:13Speaker 4: dudes that are all in the big leaders, one guy
- 22:15Speaker 4: that's still in the minor leagues, and now the Nats
- 22:18Speaker 4: haven't won at all from at all. From that, they
- 22:21Speaker 4: got three prominent big leaders on their team, and now
- 22:24Speaker 4: they flipped Mackenzie Gore over. So you can't miss it
- 22:28Speaker 4: because you're not just getting players for that player. You're
- 22:31Speaker 4: getting players to make your organization better so that you
- 22:34Speaker 4: can ultimately win. So the pressure is on the team
- 22:37Speaker 4: that's getting all the prospects back. You can't screw that up.
- 22:41Speaker 4: So it's way more work for them.
