- 0:05The Green Party dirty tricks in politics.
- 0:09Welcome to Mark and Pete. Well, they secured a win.
- 0:12Except, and this is where it gets awkward, this win may have
- 0:16evolved a little creative interpretation of the rules.
- 0:21Yes, this is Mark and Pete 2 blokes with half an opinion.
- 0:25And here's our first thought. Folk who are completely Green
- 0:31think that the world is too unclean until dirty politics
- 0:36came on the scene and now they are an insurgent machine.
- 0:41Well yes, what has happened to the Green Party?
- 0:44Well interestingly the Green Party has won the Gordon and
- 0:47Denton by election. Hannah Spencer took the seat
- 0:50from Labour in the Green's first ever Westminster by election
- 0:54victory. Now Labour, which took Greater
- 0:57Manchester's seat with more than 50% of the vote in 2024, was
- 1:01pushed into third place behind Yes Reform UK as well.
- 1:06And as a result, this will put even more pressure on Sir Keir
- 1:09Starmer. But there's something more
- 1:11important and that is about the election itself, because many of
- 1:15people have observed that many groups of voters actually went
- 1:20into the booths as family voting in the by election.
- 1:23Now, of course, this is an illegal practice, especially
- 1:26when there are two voters within one polling booth now.
- 1:29The Reform leader, Nigel Farage, says this raised questions about
- 1:32the integrity of the democratic process in predominantly Muslim
- 1:37areas. Now, well, this is very
- 1:39controversial. But Mr. Pete, I ask you, what do
- 1:42you think about this is Nigel? Farage.
- 1:44Really. Right.
- 1:45To raise these concerns, would it have even actually changed
- 1:49the outcome? I ask you, are the Greens going
- 1:52in the right direction and what do you think about the
- 1:54Manchester result? Well, yes Mr. Markle, we there
- 1:59have been reports of bad behaviour in the election
- 2:03booths. When you, when you go into an
- 2:05election booth, when you go there, a voting booth to go and
- 2:08vote in a British election, only you allowed to go in.
- 2:13You can't have someone else go in with you into the actual
- 2:15voting booth. The only other people are
- 2:17allowed in there are under certain circumstances, police or
- 2:21there are a designated group of volunteers which should have
- 2:25been around just for the past few years have been allowed in
- 2:28officially. And what these volunteers do is
- 2:31they try and ensure election integrity and they have reported
- 2:35that there were people doing this issue of family voting.
- 2:40So you have someone going in with you to tell you how to
- 2:43vote. That's not allowed.
- 2:45Of course, there being postal votes as well, It can be done
- 2:48without anyone going in there with you.
- 2:49You can simply have the vote done for you.
- 2:53You can imagine the situation if you're you're in the country,
- 2:57you don't really care who wins or maybe you don't even speak
- 3:00the language. And someone said, yeah, I'll
- 3:03just do it for you. Oh, OK, fine.
- 3:05Then that's that being done on a reasonably large scale.
- 3:08We're only talking about needing a few thousand votes, which is
- 3:12big for the area, but, you know, not a huge number.
- 3:15Just generally speaking. Then it's going to swing the
- 3:19election. And I think that is to a certain
- 3:22extent what happened The the Labour Party vote halved from
- 3:27last time with their voters going, yeah, some of them to
- 3:30reform and some of them, a lot of them to the Green Party.
- 3:35However, having said all that, reports I'm hearing are that
- 3:40there were quite a few voters for the Green Party who'd never
- 3:44voted before looking at polls where where people asked about
- 3:50whether they voted before. So I don't think it tells the
- 3:52whole story and it may not have swung the election, but that's
- 3:56not the the point. The fact that it occurred means
- 3:58that whoever won, I could have had and could in this case have
- 4:02their win challenged in court. Well, it is a point and whether
- 4:07it did actually skew the election results or not, but
- 4:10either way, you're, I think you've already hit on it, which
- 4:13is this is a lot of tactical voting for what has been
- 4:17basically a Labour Party constituency for quite some
- 4:23time, over 100 years, I believe. You know, for them to be
- 4:26relegated to 3rd place really essentially -25% of the, of the
- 4:31vote since it was a change in 2024, that's quite a dramatic
- 4:36impact. And I think that we're seeing
- 4:39this political wave of change. There is another underlying
- 4:42current here behind this because of course many people were
- 4:46certainly if you were a Labour Party voter are really sort of
- 4:52making a protocol trust against Sir Keir Starmer.
- 4:55Now Andy Burnham, who is the, the, the Manchester mayor, of
- 4:59course, was blocked from even standing in this particular by
- 5:03election. So he may be the that had a
- 5:05factor, which is to say, Sir Keir Starmer, we don't like you.
- 5:09Yes. Well, I mean there is a, there
- 5:11is. Another one.
- 5:11This was a massive political misjudgement by Keir Starmer in
- 5:15stopping Andy Burnham from standing for the seat.
- 5:20He makes it his fault. Keir Starmer's fault, doubly his
- 5:22fault when when that happens. And so we're seeing a lot of
- 5:26dishonesty. We're seeing reports of
- 5:29dishonesty by the Green Party in the election, in the voting
- 5:33methods used. And we're seeing this selection
- 5:36of candidate dishonesty really by Keir Starmer because the
- 5:39reason he wasn't had to stand really was because he thought he
- 5:42was going to challenge him for leadership.
- 5:44Proverbs 11 verse one says the law detests dishonest scales,
- 5:48but accurate weights find favour with him.
- 5:51And if you've done this level of dishonesty, you've already lost
- 5:54really when it comes to the general election, people aren't
- 5:56going to trust you either the Green Party or the Labour Party.
- 6:00I think that this is a misstep. However, for the Green Party, I
- 6:04guess it's it's a breakthrough. So now they've got an MP.
- 6:07So maybe it was worth it politically.
- 6:10But another interesting point just to I want to just make one
- 6:14other point about what happened here by courting the Muslim
- 6:20vote. They were taking a leaf out of
- 6:23Labour's book for one, and doing it more effectively.
- 6:27You can summarise. Basically they were saying we're
- 6:30going to take money from rich people and give it to rich white
- 6:33people and give it to you. That's a winner.
- 6:36Of course, you know who doesn't like a bit of free money, but
- 6:39you know, I'm summarizing of course, that wasn't how quite
- 6:43how they put it on their election material.
- 6:45But the point I will make here is that it's sort of done on the
- 6:49voting seems to have broken down then more along sectarian lines
- 6:53than we used to more get more according to ethnicity than we
- 6:56useful used to. And I think if that's the way
- 6:59it's going to go, we could see parties like reform and maybe
- 7:07restore. If that does rise to, you know,
- 7:09gets it keeps increasing members as it has done, then you restore
- 7:13Britain party. Because if you're voting along
- 7:17sectarian lines, you're going to want to vote for people who are
- 7:20in favour of the, the white population or the, the current
- 7:25English, Scottish and Welsh populations, the, the native
- 7:28people there. And there are more of them than
- 7:31others. So how that will affect the
- 7:34election result, well, it's difficult to say because there's
- 7:38the, there's EU parties, I've mentioned Restore, but there's
- 7:42also advance rising up at the moment.
- 7:44So by the time we get to 2029, which is the next general
- 7:48election as as it's planned at the moment, there could, there
- 7:52could be some very different results even in terms of the
- 7:55parties taking part. Well, what's interesting about
- 7:58this is congratulations to Hannah Spencer.
- 8:01Great job, won the election and as you quite rightly say, there
- 8:06is a runway to the general election.
- 8:08Well, we talked about Greens, we talked about reform and even
- 8:11Labour. Quite remarkably, nobody.
- 8:14Is talking. About the Conservatives.
