Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Edge with your boy Micah Parsons
- 0:02Speaker 1: and I'm with Q Avery.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And this is how we're going to break down week one.
- 0:06Speaker 2: What is up, my boy? What's up, Q? We had
- 0:09Speaker 2: a tough week. We did. I think a lot of
- 0:11Speaker 2: teams had a tough week. 50% of the teams in
- 0:13Speaker 2: the NFL had a tough week. That's how we got
- 0:16Speaker 2: to look at things. You know what I'm saying? It's
- 0:17Speaker 2: all perspective.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's all perspective. Let's get into perspective. People are worried
- 0:23Speaker 1: about my Packers. People are worried about things that I've
- 0:27Speaker 1: seen on socials, right? People are worried about Packers, Rams, Cowboys.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I see a lot of Cowboys after last night. And
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's many more. It's many more.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But there were some positives. I thought Jordan Love played fantastic.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Last two games, he's thrown for 650, 7 TDs. The
- 0:47Speaker 2: offense looked pretty good. It just got a little bit
- 0:49Speaker 2: tough when they started getting heated up a little bit.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, at that point, you know, Where those penalties...
- 0:56Speaker 1: And don't get me wrong. Some of those were self-inflicted.
- 0:59Speaker 1: We had some offsides and things like that. We had
- 1:02Speaker 1: our own self-inflicted where we put in the hands.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Of the ref. But, you know, that's where Flores is Flores, bro.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We put him in a position where we had to
- 1:10Speaker 1: get in passing situations and he unleashed.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I think he blitzed 80% of the time. But I
- 1:16Speaker 2: would rather... I.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Think it's like a blessing in disguise to see someone
- 1:20Speaker 1: like that early on.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Because.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Outside of Zach Tom, and I was just talking to
- 1:25Speaker 1: him earlier, and I was like, bro, give yourself grace.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You're coming off a major knee injury. I'm coming off one, too.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I know exactly what you're going through. You had on
- 1:33Speaker 1: and off camp. You were battling that during camp. Give
- 1:37Speaker 1: yourself some grace. But outside of Zach Tom, this is
- 1:41Speaker 1: our first year of this lineup starting together. They have
- 1:45Speaker 1: no true history. And throughout camp, a lot of them
- 1:48Speaker 1: was fighting for positions, so they're alternating positions.
- 1:51Speaker 2: With reps.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So this is our first game with this lineup that's
- 1:56Speaker 1: in the game. So I'm giving our offense grace. They
- 1:59Speaker 1: all have to learn.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think people understand the value of offensive
- 2:04Speaker 2: linemen getting to work with each other consistently, feel each
- 2:07Speaker 2: other out, know how we're going to handle when we've
- 2:09Speaker 2: got to pass stuff off, or some of those exotic
- 2:11Speaker 2: looks the Vikings were giving you with the double A gap,
- 2:14Speaker 2: safety down, and the safety roll. That's a lot for
- 2:16Speaker 2: a group of guys. Yeah, like Donovan Jennings, first time
- 2:20Speaker 2: starting at you know, left guard. Jordan Morgan, first time
- 2:24Speaker 2: starting at left tackle next to Jonathan Jennings. Obviously, he
- 2:29Speaker 2: started before at guard, things like that. He was, like, swinging,
- 2:32Speaker 2: but this is our left tackle now. Sean Ryan starting
- 2:35Speaker 2: this year. He started last year when Evan Jennings got here,
- 2:38Speaker 2: but this is his first true year starting again. And Monk,
- 2:41Speaker 2: now he's in that starting right guard position where Anthony
- 2:44Speaker 2: Belton is. So this lineup is their first time ever
- 2:48Speaker 2: Working together. I'm giving them all the grace in the world.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And then you're going against a mastermind like Brian Flores.
- 2:55Speaker 1: They're going to grow. They're going to learn the protection,
- 2:57Speaker 1: the communication. Those type of things are going to pick
- 3:00Speaker 1: up now that they know. So I'm excited this happened, bro.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Sometimes some losses, you're like, thank you. This was a
- 3:07Speaker 1: great lesson tool for us to learn. I'm excited to
- 3:09Speaker 1: see where we go.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's so interesting that fans act like a week one
- 3:13Speaker 2: loss ruined your season. It's just such a big overreaction.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Last year, Seattle Seahawks, they lost the first game. Last year,
- 3:20Speaker 2: New England Patriots, they lost the first game. It's not
- 3:22Speaker 2: a real indictment to lose your first game. It's a
- 3:24Speaker 2: lot of football left.
- 3:25Speaker 1: A ton of football games. We got 16 more? 16 more.
- 3:29Speaker 1: 16 more. So I'm not too worried about Packers. I
- 3:33Speaker 1: think we're a great football team. And you look at
- 3:34Speaker 1: defensively what we did, we held Minnesota to 229 total
- 3:39Speaker 1: yards of offense. And that's how you can say scoreboards
- 3:44Speaker 1: are so deceiving.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Deceiving like if you saw a score you're like oh
- 3:49Speaker 1: my god the score was 38 to whatever you think
- 3:52Speaker 1: the game was a whole they went crazy no we
- 3:54Speaker 1: held them to 229 yards total offense so i'm very
- 3:59Speaker 1: excited where the green bay packers are going.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I love to hear it well that wasn't the only
- 4:04Speaker 2: overreaction from this weekend we had a bunch throughout the
- 4:07Speaker 2: nfl Fans love to jump to some conclusions. I'm going
- 4:11Speaker 2: to give you a few games or a few things
- 4:13Speaker 2: that happened this week, and you tell me if it's
- 4:15Speaker 2: an overreaction or underreaction by the fans. Okay. The Rams
- 4:19Speaker 2: are the third best defense in the NFC West. Who's first? Shoot,
- 4:25Speaker 2: I guess we're going to have to go with Seattle. Seattle, okay.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Maybe Arizona after that performance they just put on. Arizona's
- 4:32Speaker 2: second over the Niners. Okay, so we said Niners. So
- 4:34Speaker 2: where are you going with the Niners? So you're saying
- 4:36Speaker 2: they're fourth? I think that they might really think that
- 4:39Speaker 2: the Rams are the fourth best defense in the NFC West. Oh,
- 4:42Speaker 2: that's drag.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean, but this is what we said in the preseason.
- 4:46Speaker 1: We said this was going to be a hard division. Now,
- 4:49Speaker 1: where I think people disrespected the Niners, we didn't know
- 4:53Speaker 1: what the Niners would look like coming back from all
- 4:55Speaker 1: the injuries they had. So they got slept on a lot.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I would say I probably messed up and I forgot
- 5:02Speaker 1: the difference Fred Warner was going to make.
- 5:04Speaker 2: To this defense. He's a man. He's a man.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And then they added Raheem Morris. So, like, that team
- 5:10Speaker 1: looked really, really good. I wouldn't say the Rams are
- 5:13Speaker 1: the third best defense. I would just say they're going
- 5:16Speaker 1: against legit teams. Like, it wasn't like they were just
- 5:20Speaker 1: going against, like, You know what I mean? It's tough
- 5:24Speaker 1: like that sometimes.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So is it an overreaction or an underreaction? I think
- 5:29Speaker 2: it's somewhere in between. Oh, that's so 50. Give me something. No,
- 5:33Speaker 2: it has to.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Be 50 because it's not like, you know, it's funny
- 5:39Speaker 1: because it's like these are two teams, the Niners and
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Seahawks were the final four teams in the league
- 5:46Speaker 1: last year.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what I mean? So it's not like
- 5:49Speaker 2: it's an underreaction. It's like, hmm.
- 5:52Speaker 1: We have to see more before we say that it's qualified.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But with Miles going down to surgery.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Yeah, four weeks.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We're going to say it's about where it should be.
- 6:03Speaker 1: They might be the third because Miles is out.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So proper reaction. It's a proper reaction right now. Okay.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It's proper right now. We have to see more, though. Okay. Well,
- 6:13Speaker 2: the next thing I want to overreaction or overreaction. Derrick
- 6:16Speaker 2: Henry went slap off last week. 144 yards, three TDs.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Is he still the most elite back in the NFL? Ooh.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Most elite? I'm going to say overreaction. Okay.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think Derrick Henry is probably, will be, he's going
- 6:35Speaker 1: to be a Hall of Famer.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:37Speaker 1: He's probably going to be up there because it don't
- 6:41Speaker 1: look like he's slowing down in the next two years.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 6:45Speaker 1: He's probably going to be up there with Barry when
- 6:47Speaker 1: he talks about breaking the rushing record.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think he's pushing towards that. But most elite, I'm
- 6:56Speaker 1: still going with B. John because what B. John does. Now,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I just think Derrick Henry is just one in a million, though. Like,
- 7:03Speaker 1: it's hard to explain. Like, in a sense, like, when
- 7:06Speaker 1: it comes to, like, people having to tackle Derrick Henry
- 7:09Speaker 1: and how hard he runs and what he does to defenses.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It's like no one does that in the league. If
- 7:14Speaker 1: you don't get him before he gets going, you, my friend,
- 7:17Speaker 1: will have.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you're in trouble. But it's a 50-50 again. You
- 7:22Speaker 2: said it was an overreaction. We can't go back. No,
- 7:24Speaker 2: it is an overreaction. Okay.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Most elite is like... What do you say when you
- 7:29Speaker 1: say elite? I'm thinking elite is like running and catching.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And catching. They can do everything. Yeah, yeah. That's what
- 7:33Speaker 2: I'm saying. When it comes to most elite, I have
- 7:36Speaker 2: to go with more B. John, C & C... Gibbs. Gibbs.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Like, I got to go with that.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But when you're talking about best true, like, generation, don't
- 7:46Speaker 1: matter what era he's in, I'm going with Derrick Henry.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I can live with that. I think, yeah. Dre Swift
- 7:52Speaker 2: went off this week, too, with three tees, 124 yards. Yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 2: Swift's cold. Congratulations on the contract, too. Oh, yeah. Well-deserved.
- 7:59Speaker 2: David Mulgetta, great job getting that done. All right, let's
- 8:01Speaker 2: move on to our next overreaction or underreaction. The Texans'
- 8:06Speaker 2: defense is not a top-five defense in the NFL. They
- 8:09Speaker 2: got gashed in the passing game. I think an overreaction. Okay.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I think the Bills had really something to prove this year.
- 8:17Speaker 1: You know, they fired Sharma Dermott. You know, I think,
- 8:21Speaker 1: you know, new head coach. They were ready to show something.
- 8:26Speaker 1: They showed it. You know, I just think it was
- 8:28Speaker 1: one of those things like when you go against Josh Allen,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and I'm not going to lie, no language aside, they
- 8:36Speaker 1: effed him up last year. like they put them in
- 8:39Speaker 1: a blender yeah they f the bills up last year
- 8:42Speaker 1: i think it was one of them games like i
- 8:45Speaker 1: know exactly how you're gonna hit me now watch this
- 8:48Speaker 1: like and that's why he's one of the best in
- 8:50Speaker 1: the league he.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Had a plan all right the next one after last
- 8:54Speaker 2: night a whole bunch of questions are the giants a
- 8:57Speaker 2: playoff contender oh i'm not gonna lie.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Sing hardball football um um That was really impressive to see.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And watching football games, like old Giants games, they had
- 9:15Speaker 1: no true identity. And it was like, hmm. But you
- 9:20Speaker 1: saw that game last night. You're like, the Giants are
- 9:23Speaker 1: going to be a really good team. Now, do we know?
- 9:27Speaker 1: It's a long season. So we can say it's overreaction now.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You know what I mean? But from what they showed
- 9:34Speaker 1: last night, In the second half, they allowed the Cowboys
- 9:39Speaker 1: to touch the football two times.
- 9:40Speaker 2: That's it. Do you know how impressive that is? That's
- 9:43Speaker 2: a lot of ball control. That's a lot from Jackson Dart.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think Jackson Dart has elevated his game,
- 9:49Speaker 1: his control. He's showing people how smart he is, his
- 9:54Speaker 1: intelligence at the line of scrimmage, commanding it.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie.
- 9:59Speaker 1: When you come from year one, we're like, oh, he
- 10:02Speaker 1: can be really good to seeing that on debut on
- 10:05Speaker 1: Sunday Night Football. That was as damn good as I
- 10:09Speaker 1: seen in.
- 10:10Speaker 2: The NFL, bro. Yeah, he was working through progressions. He
- 10:12Speaker 2: was getting to number two, getting to number three. Bro.
- 10:15Speaker 2: He could do none of that last year. Bro. Bro.
- 10:20Speaker 1: That was like one of the most, and then like,
- 10:23Speaker 1: you know, the Cowboys revamped defense, obviously, you know, all that.
- 10:28Speaker 1: To come in and display that as a young quarterback
- 10:32Speaker 1: in this league, that was so good, bro. I'm more
- 10:38Speaker 1: excited about seeing what he does the rest of the
- 10:42Speaker 1: year than about their team success, because they're going to.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Go as he goes.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And then obviously what I seen last night, they're going
- 10:48Speaker 1: to go as Malik neighbors goes to like seeing Malik,
- 10:52Speaker 1: like neighbors, like that's like my little brother, bro. Like
- 10:56Speaker 1: obviously going through the ACLs together, we've been in communication through, um, socials.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Texts, off seasons, whatever. And seeing him happy back on
- 11:06Speaker 2: the field, bro.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I couldn't, I couldn't like wait to text him after
- 11:10Speaker 1: the game. Like, yo, I'm just so happy for you, bro. Like,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm so happy just to see you going like that
- 11:15Speaker 1: motivated me. Like, I can't wait for my moment to
- 11:19Speaker 1: celebrate my team.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It's coming. That was so beautiful to me, bro. I'm
- 11:23Speaker 2: so happy for Malik.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And I just thought it was the dopest thing in
- 11:25Speaker 1: the world when Jackson Dart gave that game ball to Malik.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Because he really didn't know that he was playing. Did
- 11:32Speaker 2: you hear how he decided, like, yeah, all right, I'm
- 11:34Speaker 2: going to do it? Yeah, like he said he had
- 11:36Speaker 2: chills in his body. Like, that's so dope, bro. And
- 11:39Speaker 2: not only that, bro, his family didn't even come to
- 11:41Speaker 2: the game. Like, that's crazy. Harbaugh tackles him in the walkthrough.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Is it the walkthrough or the team dinner he tackled
- 11:47Speaker 2: that man? Like, you ready?
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yeah, like, that is one of the most extraordinary stories
- 11:54Speaker 1: of all of football. I'm super happy for Malik. That
- 11:56Speaker 1: was dope as hell. Dope for them and dope for
- 11:59Speaker 1: the Giants. Ooh, and the next team, the Cowboys will
- 12:03Speaker 1: miss the playoffs. Man, another overreaction. It's so much football left.
- 12:10Speaker 1: New D.C., new players. And one football camp can't put
- 12:16Speaker 1: it all together, bro. Especially when you don't play a
- 12:19Speaker 1: lot of preseason.
- 12:20Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like.
- 12:22Speaker 1: You can see GP, you know, wasn't really himself yet.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It takes time, bro.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It takes time. I think as the season go on,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I think they all will progress. You know what I mean?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Because they have too much talent for not to progress.
- 12:36Speaker 2: They got a lot of talent on offense, but they
- 12:37Speaker 2: held George Pickens to three catches for 28 yards and
- 12:41Speaker 2: CeeDee Lamb to five catches for 44. They didn't have
- 12:44Speaker 2: the ball. The second half was one where they were
- 12:47Speaker 2: not getting the ball. Yeah, they didn't have the ball.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And GP had two drops that I know he wants back.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I don't think he'll drop that ball on the right
- 12:54Speaker 2: side of the game. No, no, no.
- 12:57Speaker 1: He know he wants them back. Like, GP won't have
- 13:00Speaker 1: a game like that again. But, like, they didn't have
- 13:03Speaker 1: the ball. So, like, that's another one of them things
- 13:06Speaker 1: where it's like stats are kind of over.
- 13:08Speaker 2: They'll deceive you. Yeah, they'll deceive you. Next is the
- 13:11Speaker 2: MVP race is between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. It's fair. Okay.
- 13:17Speaker 2: It's fair as of right now. So this is not
- 13:19Speaker 2: an overreaction.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's slight because I still think hella players are
- 13:25Speaker 1: in it.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Dart could still be in it. Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Jordan Love. Joe Burrow. Doug Prescott.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. There's still a lot of quarterbacks in it.
- 13:34Speaker 1: So it's like they're always going to be in it
- 13:37Speaker 1: because of the caliber of quarterbacks they are.
- 13:39Speaker 2: But I think we let this season play out. Yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 2: I think we in a rush. Folks are in a
- 13:44Speaker 2: rush to make a decision. Yeah. But Josh Allen was
- 13:47Speaker 2: doing some stuff yesterday.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I think where people fail to realize is you can't
- 13:52Speaker 1: give Josh Allen two minutes in the game, bro. He's
- 13:55Speaker 1: been in that situation so many times versus Patrick Mahomes.
- 13:59Speaker 1: If you're not Patrick Mahomes, you're not beating Josh Allen
- 14:03Speaker 1: if you're up six or five.
- 14:05Speaker 2: He's going to come back and score a touchdown. Yeah,
- 14:07Speaker 2: with two minutes to go. He's been in that situation
- 14:09Speaker 2: too many times. He's a hell of a quarterback.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And I don't think when people do those MVP rankings-
- 14:15Speaker 1: They think of situations like that when it's got to
- 14:18Speaker 1: have it.
- 14:20Speaker 2: You know, two minutes left. He plays his best football, bro.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And it's crazy. Like, he had that throw down the side.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I mean, the throw he made to win the game.
- 14:30Speaker 2: To DJ Moore? Yes. Oh, my God. It was one
- 14:34Speaker 2: of them joints, like, when you're watching it. Like, I
- 14:36Speaker 2: had my iPad. I just dropped. That's it. What is
- 14:40Speaker 2: he on, fam? Like, what type of dude is you? Nah,
- 14:43Speaker 2: he's an alien, bro. Yeah, he's special. He had the
- 14:46Speaker 2: big run, the throw to the left side on, like,
- 14:48Speaker 2: the post. It was– he bounces back. The thing that
- 14:52Speaker 2: Josh Allen does to me so well is he bounces
- 14:54Speaker 2: back from mistakes. Like, he made a silly throw at
- 14:56Speaker 2: the end of the game. Should have been an interception.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It wasn't. The next play, touchdown, game over.
- 15:01Speaker 1: You know what surprised me, though? It wasn't so much
- 15:04Speaker 1: a Houston defense. I was surprised Houston's rush didn't make
- 15:08Speaker 1: more of an impact in that game. Have they made in, like,
- 15:11Speaker 1: previous games? Mm-hmm. Like, the corners, ah, like, yeah, they
- 15:15Speaker 1: gave us some explosions. They actually had to pick to
- 15:17Speaker 1: end the game.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Exactly. That's what I'm talking about.
- 15:19Speaker 1: He had to pick to end the game. But the
- 15:21Speaker 1: rush didn't get home as much as it usually did
- 15:23Speaker 1: that game. It didn't affect him as much this game.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted Will Anderson to do more. But that
- 15:28Speaker 2: left tackle for the Bills, he's tough. Dawkins? Yeah. He
- 15:32Speaker 2: be playing some football out there. Yeah. I got to
- 15:34Speaker 2: tip my cap to him.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I think all around the Bills O-line came to play. Like,
- 15:39Speaker 1: they put on a mission, like, we're going to protect
- 15:41Speaker 1: our quarterback this time. Mm-hmm. And y'all going to have
- 15:43Speaker 1: to beat us square up. Now, where do we question this?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Is it the Bills' defense? Can they hold up?
- 15:52Speaker 2: They were shaky. They were shaky. Very shaky. Because C.J.
- 15:56Speaker 2: was picking them apart. C.J. was picking them apart. So
- 16:00Speaker 2: Josh Allen is going to have to have his A
- 16:01Speaker 2: game every single week if they want to win. That's
- 16:03Speaker 2: what I wonder.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Because now when they play the Patriots, who have an
- 16:07Speaker 1: elite defense … Do you let Drake May get off? Like,
- 16:10Speaker 1: when those games come, it's going to be so interesting. Ah,
- 16:12Speaker 1: we can't wait seven, ten more weeks. We're going to
- 16:15Speaker 1: see time with Taylor. And speaking of, you know, one
- 16:18Speaker 1: of our MVP candidates, Caleb Williams and the Bears scored
- 16:22Speaker 1: 59 points.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Damn, they're 60.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It was one of them games where, like, I'm surprised
- 16:31Speaker 1: because how good the Panthers' defense played last year. And
- 16:35Speaker 1: then they added Pieces. They added Jalen Phillips. They added
- 16:40Speaker 1: Devin Lloyd. You know, they added pieces to that defense
- 16:43Speaker 1: to make it even better and to give up almost six.
- 16:46Speaker 2: That's so surprising. Surprising, but they were just able to
- 16:49Speaker 2: run the ball at such a high level. It was
- 16:51Speaker 2: crazy to see a team score like that running the ball,
- 16:54Speaker 2: like scheming things up, the duo inserts, the motions, the shifts.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yeah, like looking at this, like 291 yards rushing.
- 17:01Speaker 2: That's crazy. That's wild work. Well, before the season, Ben
- 17:08Speaker 2: Johnson said he wanted to have the highest scoring offense
- 17:10Speaker 2: in the NFL. The last team to do this was
- 17:14Speaker 2: the Denver Broncos in 2013. Demarius Thomas, Peyton Manning, Decker.
- 17:20Speaker 2: They had 37.9 points a game. Do you think that
- 17:23Speaker 2: this record is in reach?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Not in today's age, bro. Defenders are way too good.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Way too good. It's tough out here. Not in today's football, bro.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But do you think if they can run the ball
- 17:38Speaker 2: the way that they ran the ball yesterday, they'll be
- 17:40Speaker 2: able to continue to do this? You're not going to
- 17:41Speaker 2: be able to run like that on every defense. But
- 17:43Speaker 2: everybody's playing too high, and they're trying to stop the pass.
- 17:46Speaker 2: They're trying to do this and that. No, bro.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It's too many quality defensive linemen and linebackers today, bro.
- 17:53Speaker 2: And they've got to play the Green Bay Packers two times. Yeah,
- 17:56Speaker 2: that's not happening. Does this say more about the Carolina
- 18:01Speaker 2: Panthers' defense or the Bears' offense that they were able
- 18:04Speaker 2: to do this? You know, 291 yards rushing, eight TDs.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I could say it's a mixture of both. I could
- 18:11Speaker 1: say the offense is really good, but at the same time,
- 18:14Speaker 1: the Panthers' defense didn't show up to the standard they
- 18:16Speaker 1: probably wanted to.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you give up 269 throwing and 291 rushing. 269
- 18:22Speaker 2: throwing is not breaking the bank. Yeah, you're good with that.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you're good with that. You could win a game
- 18:26Speaker 1: like that. 291 rush yards, you'll never win in the NFL.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Never, ever. You won't win anywhere. Not high school, college, NFL. Yeah, never, ever.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Never ever. That is unacceptable.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And I don't even know how many carries they had,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but that's an outrageous yard per carry. Let's just say
- 18:44Speaker 1: they had 35 carries. It's still dang near eight yards
- 18:47Speaker 1: of rush. Yeah, that's crazy. That's unacceptable in today's league.
- 18:51Speaker 2: So where does the Bears offense rank between the league's best?
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean, it's hard to.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Say because you got to say it got to be
- 18:59Speaker 1: a consistent thing, bro.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Greatness is consistency.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Being the best is consistent behavior. That's why a lot
- 19:05Speaker 1: of these overreactions, underreactions is like, ah, yeah, this team
- 19:08Speaker 1: played good, but can they play good again? You know
- 19:10Speaker 1: what I mean? Ah, they did this, but can they
- 19:12Speaker 1: do it again? Ah, a guy had 150 yards. Can
- 19:15Speaker 1: he go get another 150? Like, that's how we distribute greatness. Like,
- 19:19Speaker 1: that's why we have the Derrick Henry conversations. Like, he's
- 19:22Speaker 1: still the most elite. Ah, yeah, we wouldn't say most elite,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but he's probably one of the greatest running backs of
- 19:28Speaker 1: our era.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Dang near all time.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think is the greatest running back of our era
- 19:33Speaker 1: because– of how long he's been doing it and who
- 19:37Speaker 1: he's done it against, bro. Like he's done it against everybody.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It's not like a, like we probably gotta look up
- 19:43Speaker 1: a stat. Like I think they said Derrick Henry is,
- 19:47Speaker 1: what is it? He got like 12,000 yards now. It's
- 19:50Speaker 1: something like, we might have to search it real quick.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Let me look it up for you. 14,982 yards from scrimmage, 13,000
- 19:55Speaker 2: rushing yards.
- 20:00Speaker 1: He had 13,000 rushing yards.
- 20:01Speaker 2: That's a lot of yardage.
- 20:03Speaker 1: We almost got to look up a stat of how
- 20:05Speaker 1: many yards he has against each team. That's where he's
- 20:10Speaker 1: at right now. It's not even.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Funny, bro. And he's been able to do it with
- 20:15Speaker 2: good quarterbacks, average quarterbacks. It doesn't matter. He's just about
- 20:18Speaker 2: to be able to do it. That's like, what are
- 20:22Speaker 2: we talking about here? Well, I went and found how
- 20:25Speaker 2: many yards he's had against every team, and it is
- 20:28Speaker 2: a lot. but he has over 1,600 yards versus the
- 20:31Speaker 2: Houston Texans alone. Oh, my God. That man's been doing
- 20:36Speaker 2: his thing. Oh, my God. That's crazy. 1,600 on Houston. Sheesh.
- 20:42Speaker 1: That hurts our defense. But that was way back when
- 20:44Speaker 1: he was with the Titans, though. That was way back. Hey,
- 20:47Speaker 1: that's hilarious, though.
- 20:48Speaker 2: So we're talking about all this rushing. Who is the
- 20:49Speaker 2: team with the defense that can really challenge a Bears offense?
- 20:53Speaker 2: Grand Bay Packers. Detroit Lions, I mean. I mean, really,
- 20:58Speaker 2: our whole conference. They're going to make it tough on them. Oh, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 2: for sure. We have to. Speaking of conferences, what is
- 21:07Speaker 2: the toughest division in the NFL after seeing the NFC
- 21:12Speaker 2: South go 0 for 4, not one win amongst them?
- 21:16Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie to you. The NFC North
- 21:19Speaker 2: is tough. Oh, it's a gauntlet. The NFC North is tough.
- 21:25Speaker 2: You got... You got Green Bay, you got Detroit, you
- 21:31Speaker 2: got Chicago, and then you got Minnesota. So you're putting
- 21:34Speaker 2: them at one? No, I would say we're probably two. Okay,
- 21:37Speaker 2: you're two. And I'll give it to NFC West right now.
- 21:41Speaker 2: NFC West, yes. The way that 49ers came out last week. Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I don't know if it was the travel or what
- 21:47Speaker 2: was going on, but they put Belt to Los Angeles.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Their whole division, all their wins were impressive. What the
- 21:55Speaker 2: Arizona Cardinals did to beat the Chargers was very impressive. Yeah,
- 21:59Speaker 2: all their wins were impressive.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So I'm going to put the NFC West as number one.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Okay, let's give me a two-three. You got NFC West
- 22:07Speaker 2: number one, NFC North number two. Give me the third division.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I'm going to go to NFC North. They earned it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Bengals beat a tough Bucs team. Ravens beat Colts. And
- 22:21Speaker 1: the Steelers beat the Falcons. Yeah, rough game for the Browns.
- 22:26Speaker 1: But that's kind of how you're the division finishing. You
- 22:28Speaker 1: added Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Browns. So that makes sense there.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yeah. So let me get your fifth division. Michael, who
- 22:35Speaker 2: do you think is the fifth toughest division in the NFL?
- 22:39Speaker 2: I'm going to go to AFC East, bro. AFC East. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 2: we saw some good football there. Yeah, AFC East. AFC East.
- 22:47Speaker 2: You know, we got the Bills, who I think is
- 22:50Speaker 2: the number one team, the Patriots. I would have a Sioux.
- 22:54Speaker 2: The Jets looked dang good this past week, and then
- 22:57Speaker 2: we had the Dolphins who got behind the woodshed. Let
- 23:00Speaker 2: me hear your fourth division. This is tough. This is
- 23:06Speaker 2: real tough. I know who my fourth division is.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It's really a toss-up between the South or the North
- 23:18Speaker 1: on the AFC.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Okay. You got the North at three. AFC North? All right,
- 23:23Speaker 2: then I'm going to go AFC South. You got the
- 23:25Speaker 2: AFC South. Yeah. We got the Texans, we got the Jags,
- 23:30Speaker 2: the Colts, and then the Titans struggled that week. So
- 23:34Speaker 2: we had, you know, we predicted to go Texans, Jags, Titans, Colts.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Jacksonville Jaguars, I think, are going to be a lot
- 23:40Speaker 2: tougher than people think. I think, I don't think we
- 23:43Speaker 2: slept on them. When we did the rings, did we
- 23:44Speaker 2: sleep on them? They went 13 and.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Like, when we did the rankings a while back, we
- 23:49Speaker 1: didn't sleep on them, bro. We knew the Jags was
- 23:51Speaker 1: going to be serious.
- 23:52Speaker 2: We had them two in the division, right behind the Texans. Okay.
- 23:55Speaker 2: That's fair. That's fair.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you another quarterback, besides the Jags defense,
- 24:00Speaker 1: Trevor Morris looked like he's arrived.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Oh, my God. He was picking. He had a throw
- 24:06Speaker 2: on the right side of the end zone through four defenders,
- 24:10Speaker 2: hits a receiver. I'm like. His anticipation, his accuracy, he's
- 24:14Speaker 2: playing at another level right now. I think Trevor Lawrence
- 24:18Speaker 2: might have been the dark horse in the MVP. I
- 24:21Speaker 2: think we forgot about him, but I think he's showing
- 24:24Speaker 2: why he was the generational talent coming out of the draft.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Bro, so often, right, we see quarterbacks struggle and fail,
- 24:33Speaker 1: then they reach these coaches, and they just start prospering.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And I'm going to say that Jags made the right
- 24:41Speaker 1: call by bringing in Liam Cohen to the call because
- 24:45Speaker 1: since he's got under the development of Trevor Lawrence, Trevor
- 24:50Speaker 1: Lawrence has won 13 games in a season, and now
- 24:53Speaker 1: this year in year two under him, he looks phenomenal.
- 24:57Speaker 2: He looks amazing. And they got some receivers. You don't
- 25:00Speaker 2: know everybody's name, but they out there making plays. You
- 25:03Speaker 2: got Parker Washington who's out there killing. He's about to
- 25:06Speaker 2: get a bag. Jacoby, he was making plays. They were just,
- 25:10Speaker 2: it was a lot going on. Brian Thomas Jr. was
- 25:13Speaker 2: being special.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I think where people also didn't mention enough, C. Josh
- 25:18Speaker 1: Stroud played really, really good football.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Played his ass off. The only other division that I
- 25:23Speaker 2: think we may have left out, I think right on
- 25:26Speaker 2: the edge, is that AFC West. I don't know. I
- 25:30Speaker 2: don't know.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Raiders beat Dolphins. That's like, ah, we know they're tanking.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Chargers losing to the Cardinals kind of really blew it.
- 25:40Speaker 1: To me, and we're talking about right now.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm not going to lie.
- 25:43Speaker 1: The Raiders, Miami really wasn't like a, oh, wow, that
- 25:47Speaker 1: was an impressive win to me. But the Chargers losing
- 25:51Speaker 1: to the Cardinals really kind of shocked me because I
- 25:54Speaker 1: thought the Chargers, this was the year they was going
- 25:56Speaker 1: to really.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Mike McDaniels. They got all new O-line revamped. Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So that kind of really- set me back on them.
- 26:04Speaker 1: So that's why I kind of stayed in the AFC
- 26:06Speaker 1: with it.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Justin Herbert always leaves me just wanting more. Like, great player,
- 26:09Speaker 2: but there's something that's missing. So what we got is
- 26:12Speaker 2: an AFC East at the 5th, AFC South at number 4,
- 26:16Speaker 2: AFC North at number 3, NFC North at number 2,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and then the NFC West at number 1.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yep. This is special, bro. I'm very excited to see
- 26:26Speaker 1: how this year plays out. This is special.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I think... We're going to see some of the most
- 26:32Speaker 2: elite QB play this year. Yeah, even someone like Jacoby Brissett.
- 26:37Speaker 2: The Arizona Cardinals were balking at giving him $ 18 million,
- 26:40Speaker 2: which is super low end for a starting NFL quarterback.
- 26:43Speaker 2: He went out there and he picked the Chargers defense apart.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Watching things like that, there's some high-level quarterback play taking
- 26:51Speaker 2: place in the NFL right now. Now on the football slate,
- 26:54Speaker 2: did you see the clip of Tyler Owens on the punt? Oh, yeah. Yeah. J.J.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Watt says it's one of the greatest places he's ever seen.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie.
- 27:05Speaker 1: When you just talk about dog mentality, you can't F
- 27:09Speaker 1: with me. The best part to me was the suplex
- 27:13Speaker 1: right there. This is someone that's like, I'm hungry. I
- 27:18Speaker 1: don't know if I'm going to eat tonight.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I got to get this check.
- 27:21Speaker 1: If everyone played like that, it would be so hard
- 27:24Speaker 1: to win football games, bro.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Like, that is, like, what you coach. That is what
- 27:29Speaker 2: you pray for as a coach.
- 27:31Speaker 1: A player that I'm watching on the sideline, if I
- 27:33Speaker 1: seen that, bro, I'd probably get a penalty on for
- 27:35Speaker 1: the team because I'm running on the field, bro.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He deserves it. You got two guys out there trying
- 27:39Speaker 2: to block the gunner. Their whole objective is to not
- 27:42Speaker 2: let him make this happen. And he goes, one hand, uh,
- 27:45Speaker 2: let me get you to the ground, uh, one hand,
- 27:47Speaker 2: put you on the ground, suplex.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That is, like, That's one of the greatest plays ever
- 27:53Speaker 1: in football, bro. So impressive. The mentality, the heart, the dedication,
- 27:58Speaker 1: the whole nine, bro. He had a lot to him.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But let's look ahead. The Packers play the Jets in
- 28:05Speaker 1: New York for week two.
- 28:07Speaker 2: How are we feeling? The Jets 1-0. You guys are 0-1.
- 28:09Speaker 2: What are your thoughts on the Jets after, you know,
- 28:12Speaker 2: their week one victory? I was actually impressed with the Jets, bro.
- 28:15Speaker 2: They played really good together. Geno played really good.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah. I like that they established a run game. The
- 28:22Speaker 1: defense played really good. Cam Moore didn't really have a
- 28:25Speaker 1: lot to go to. They limited explosives. Just off of that,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I really like the Jets. I think this is the
- 28:35Speaker 1: year that, you know, the Jets could go about 50-50
- 28:38Speaker 1: if not a positive record, bro.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I think so. Geno, to me, played at a really
- 28:42Speaker 2: high level. I'm fortunate enough to get to work with
- 28:44Speaker 2: him in the offseason. He's one of the most accurate
- 28:46Speaker 2: quarterbacks you'll see, 80% completion percentage. Really shows that. I
- 28:50Speaker 2: thought they did some really good stuff. Got Garrett Wilson
- 28:52Speaker 2: on the ball. I think you can see Garrett Wilson
- 28:55Speaker 2: kind of like revving up because this is the first
- 28:57Speaker 2: time he's really been able to get the ball like
- 28:59Speaker 2: that in that way.
- 29:01Speaker 1: No, Garrett Wilson has always been an elite receiver. He's
- 29:04Speaker 1: just always had the QB.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Yeah, QB Carousel. It's never been the same guy. Ain't
- 29:09Speaker 2: been able to find some consistency.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm happy for him, bro. I hope he has the
- 29:14Speaker 1: year that he deserves, bro. Yeah, and we need the
- 29:17Speaker 1: Packers to bounce back. I'm going to give you some stats.
- 29:21Speaker 1: The difference between 0-2 and 1-1 is tremendous. 0-2 teams
- 29:26Speaker 1: only have a 10% chance of making the playoffs. However,
- 29:30Speaker 1: it jumps up to 40.
- 29:32Speaker 2: If we can go 1-1. What are we going to
- 29:34Speaker 2: do to bounce back and get on track? Limit the
- 29:38Speaker 2: penalties and make... teams beat us the right way. You
- 29:42Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 29:43Speaker 1: Let them outplay us, out-physical us. But I don't think
- 29:47Speaker 1: a lot of teams can do that to us this year.
- 29:49Speaker 1: We got a lot of good players, great quarterback, great
- 29:53Speaker 1: running backs, great receivers, great defense. I'm excited about our
- 29:57Speaker 1: mentality and how we bounce back this week.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited to see it. Bro, damn, week one
- 30:02Speaker 2: football was so good, bro. I love to watch it.
- 30:04Speaker 2: We got to see so many elite plays, elite play
- 30:07Speaker 2: at the quarterback position. There were some defenses I just
- 30:09Speaker 2: thought looked really, really sturdy. I know that the Browns
- 30:13Speaker 2: played bad, but that defense that they played this week,
- 30:16Speaker 2: they looked really, really good. They were just sturdy, made
- 30:18Speaker 2: everything difficult. What?
- 30:21Speaker 1: As we know, it has to be consistent. We can't
- 30:24Speaker 1: wait to tune back in on the Edge to talk
- 30:26Speaker 1: about what's going on around the league, who's the best
- 30:29Speaker 1: in the business, and why they're the best in the business,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and who's going to get to that one dance on
- 30:35Speaker 1: Valentine's Day, the biggest dance of them all, the Super Bowl.
- 30:38Speaker 1: And it's going to learn and listen here on the
- 30:42Speaker 1: Edge with your boy Michael Parsons and Quincy Avery, and
- 30:45Speaker 1: we'll see you next time.
