- 0:01Speaker 1: Was I supposed to be?
- 0:04Speaker 3: Oh, shit.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Brian's just sitting.
- 0:06Speaker 2: There thinking, anytime you guys want to get in the
- 0:08Speaker 2: fucking subject, I'll press the record button. You all make
- 0:11Speaker 2: each other... I'm ready.

- 0:56Speaker 7: Kilowatts of power.
- 1:39Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:41Speaker 8: Well, sort of.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Actually, this is a special edition episode.
- 1:45Speaker 9: During our recent Bigfoot episode, we veered off, like we
- 1:48Speaker 9: often do, our normal movie topic and started talking about
- 1:53Speaker 9: some real Bigfoot stories and some real Bigfoot experiences that
- 1:59Speaker 9: were actually so fascinating that I kind of left it
- 2:02Speaker 9: as its own episode. I was like, this is really interesting.
- 2:06Speaker 9: And I think, you know, even if you're not a
- 2:09Speaker 9: Bigfoot kind of person, I mean, we had half of
- 2:12Speaker 9: the people here with stories and the other half were
- 2:15Speaker 9: sort of, you know, in the skeptic end. So we
- 2:18Speaker 9: kind of We're all just sort of sitting here listening
- 2:20Speaker 9: to stories. And whether you believe in it or not,
- 2:23Speaker 9: there's some.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Really interesting stories that come into play here.
- 2:26Speaker 9: So if you are looking for normal movie meltdown rambling
- 2:29Speaker 9: about movies, this is not it. Fair warning, there's not
- 2:33Speaker 9: really any movie talk in this at all. We're just
- 2:35Speaker 9: talking Bigfoot and personal stories and, you know, what theories
- 2:40Speaker 9: are out there and stuff like that. But that aside,
- 2:42Speaker 9: it's really interesting and I like it. What we captured there,
- 2:46Speaker 9: and I wanted to put it together as an episode.
- 2:49Speaker 9: So this is it as it happened midway in. We
- 2:53Speaker 9: just sort of launched into this special edition Bigfoot episode.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So I'm going to leave it at that.
- 2:59Speaker 9: Once again, it's the same crew that we had on the...
- 3:02Speaker 9: That wonderful sci-fi movie Bigfoot episode.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Of course, I was there.
- 3:07Speaker 9: Dave was with us.
- 3:08Speaker 10: Bo was with us.
- 3:09Speaker 9: Ben was sitting in from Tower of Technobabble. And Greg
- 3:13Speaker 9: and our usual Ben were also here. So it's the
- 3:16Speaker 9: same lineup from there. And we veer off into some
- 3:20Speaker 9: real-world Bigfoot stories. So we'll take a break here and
- 3:23Speaker 9: come back in the middle of the story session.
- 3:25Speaker 1: So I hope you enjoy it. I think it's pretty
- 3:28Speaker 1: damn interesting.
- 3:50Speaker 3: How about a hearty Castleberry's pit-cooked barbecue sandwich? Mmm, Castleberry's
- 3:56Speaker 3: has the smoky, savory goodness you get only with the

- 4:25Speaker 11: The swamps of Southern Arkansas. It's here that decades ago
- 4:31Speaker 11: a legend was born. The legend of a huge, hairy,
- 4:36Speaker 11: man-like creature. Is it man or is it myth? No
- 4:40Speaker 11: one really knows. We're looking for the Boggy Creek Creatures.
- 4:47Speaker 1: If you can take.
- 4:48Speaker 5: My word for it, there ain't no monsters around here.
- 4:51Speaker 11: Hey, boy, where do you think you're going to find
- 4:54Speaker 11: that monster? I'm going to find him in the swamp
- 4:57Speaker 11: if it exists.
- 4:58Speaker 8: He's been seen over a hundred times since.
- 5:00Speaker 5: The early 50s.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Seen by who?
- 5:03Speaker 11: Drunks or city folks like you all want your names
- 5:06Speaker 11: in the newspaper?
- 5:16Speaker 4: Something's out there, and it's heading toward Tanya.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Tell him to come in, Brian.
- 5:21Speaker 12: Come on.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Come on.
- 5:24Speaker 10: Get in.
- 5:24Speaker 11: Walk.
- 5:25Speaker 10: Is it him?
- 5:25Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 5:29Speaker 10: Keep going.
- 5:30Speaker 11: You better say something.
- 5:33Speaker 10: No.
- 5:34Speaker 4: No.
- 5:41Speaker 11: Now, from the award-winning producer Charles B. Pierce comes a
- 5:44Speaker 11: motion picture that will stir your imagination. From his first
- 5:48Speaker 11: classic film, The Legend of Boggy Creek, he proudly presents
- 5:52Speaker 11: Boggy Creek 2.
- 5:54Speaker 5: And the legend continues.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Dave, I do not get superheroes.
- 5:58Speaker 10: Oh my God, I don't get you. What don't you get?
- 6:01Speaker 5: Tower bot here.
- 6:03Speaker 13: Well, the meatbags were going to say that if you're

- 7:12Speaker 3: on with the show.
- 7:13Speaker 4: It's time for Tales from the Cryptids. The Bigfoot Five.
- 7:28Speaker 14: The second time when he saw a custom bear growing
- 7:30Speaker 14: up in his mind The hatchet-throwing sasquatch turned and peered
- 7:34Speaker 14: With a look that wild animals do and feared And
- 7:37Speaker 14: they feared the hatchet-throwing sasquatch.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Talk about our experiences. I don't.
- 7:47Speaker 10: Know what that entails.
- 7:48Speaker 9: Mine are minor, mine are minor compared to yours.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Because I'm skeptical about mine anyway.
- 7:56Speaker 5: Yours are just fucked.
- 7:59Speaker 1: So these are for show purposes, right? You're publicly announcing
- 8:02Speaker 1: these findings?
- 8:04Speaker 7: To a degree.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I at least have some footage of something on the
- 8:09Speaker 2: one from when I was filming Balloons on the Police.
- 8:13Speaker 5: There's weird corroborative stuff about it.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And it's all in the same nick of the woods.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So you found Bigfoot, aside from on Facebook.
- 8:21Speaker 8: I once was in a tent. thought that I heard Bigfoot.
- 8:25Speaker 2: See we should just be recording because all of us
- 8:26Speaker 2: have stories I guarantee you this is all part of
- 8:29Speaker 2: it's already on oh it's still rolling okay we're back hello.
- 8:32Speaker 5: It's like we're on a campfire just have crickets in
- 8:34Speaker 5: the background everybody's telling Bigfoot stories you know.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So do you want to continue on with your stories or.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Sure well there's a lead into that in that I
- 8:46Speaker 5: know a local Bigfoot investigator who's a lot less crazy.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Than many But enthusiastic all the time.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Very enthusiastic guy. They do KentuckyBigFoot.com.
- 8:57Speaker 12: Can you give his name?
- 9:00Speaker 5: Charlie Raymond.
- 9:01Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And Charlie's a pretty cool guy.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 9:03Speaker 5: And Charlie's got a pretty good hand on his shoulder.
- 9:06Speaker 5: He's an educator. And he knows about some things that
- 9:11Speaker 5: happened to me that are very odd. And we got
- 9:14Speaker 5: to talking, and I think he needed some equipment, maybe
- 9:19Speaker 5: to do some filming or something.
- 9:20Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 9:21Speaker 5: And right around the same time, you had been shooting
- 9:23Speaker 5: your last picture. And something interesting happened in the middle
- 9:27Speaker 5: of the night while they were shooting. That's how we
- 9:29Speaker 5: all kind of hooked up, but I'll throw it over
- 9:31Speaker 5: to Bo.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, that night, I mean, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: prior to that, actually, Hugh had mentioned to me, that
- 9:38Speaker 2: was back when you got back into Bigfoot. And at
- 9:40Speaker 2: that point, you know, I was never, like, huge into
- 9:43Speaker 2: Bigfoot to me. Again, I always dug, like, Mothman or
- 9:47Speaker 2: the Flatwoods Monster, all the offbeat ones were what I dug.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But I was telling a story about just one night
- 9:54Speaker 2: when I got home late from the theater. And my
- 9:56Speaker 2: parents live out in Claremont, by, like, the Jim Beam Distillery,
- 10:00Speaker 2: and this was when I was still at home, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: it was after we'd had Rocky at the theater, so
- 10:05Speaker 2: I was getting.
- 10:05Speaker 15: Home 3, 3.30 in the morning, and it's just a
- 10:11Speaker 15: very strange thing, because I was getting stuff out of
- 10:13Speaker 15: the car, just books and that, and I swear I heard,
- 10:18Speaker 15: just like, coming across the valley where we live.
- 10:21Speaker 2: It's a very, very heavily wooded area where they live.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Just hearing sort of like a hello or hey-bo. The
- 10:28Speaker 2: downside to my name is if somebody says hello, it
- 10:31Speaker 2: could be hey-bo and I don't know. But I heard
- 10:33Speaker 2: that come across the valley and I just stopped. And
- 10:37Speaker 2: I remember thinking, well, I need to stop and listen
- 10:41Speaker 2: because if I just keep shuffling papers and shuffling books,
- 10:45Speaker 2: I could mishear and I would swear that, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 2: I just misheard something. So I just stopped, froze my tracks,
- 10:51Speaker 2: and just listened to the night.
- 10:53Speaker 7: And this was.
- 10:54Speaker 5: In like a November.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I mean, it was pretty cold out. But I just
- 10:58Speaker 2: remember standing and listening and just very vividly hearing like
- 11:04Speaker 2: the hello again. At which point, you know, it freaked
- 11:08Speaker 2: me out because out there, they didn't have the porch
- 11:11Speaker 2: light on, so it's pitch, pitch black. And I just
- 11:16Speaker 2: started scrambling. for the door and i could have sworn
- 11:20Speaker 2: i just heard this voice just out in the woods
- 11:22Speaker 2: out in the blackness just sort of saying like where
- 11:24Speaker 2: are you going or something sort of like that i
- 11:27Speaker 2: couldn't quite make it out and then got into the
- 11:30Speaker 2: house and just for some reason one of the windows
- 11:32Speaker 2: was like cracked open i just very vividly heard like
- 11:35Speaker 2: a baby crying or something like that but just very
- 11:38Speaker 2: very loud and never heard anything like that before because
- 11:42Speaker 2: just you know i've lived in the sticks for most
- 11:44Speaker 2: of my life so i'm used to all the sounds
- 11:46Speaker 2: of the woods and that you know It just doesn't
- 11:48Speaker 2: throw me off. But it was just kind of weird.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And then Dave mentioned, he's like, well, that sounds similar
- 11:52Speaker 2: to some Bigfoot thing.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Yeah, there's people over there. There's all kinds of theories
- 11:56Speaker 5: about noises people hear. And some people say Bigfoot's a
- 12:00Speaker 5: great mimic, which could be a good excuse to call
- 12:02Speaker 5: anything Bigfoot.
- 12:04Speaker 8: That's true, too.
- 12:04Speaker 5: But there are several patterns that seem to prop up,
- 12:07Speaker 5: and one of them is it sounds almost like a
- 12:08Speaker 5: baby crying. And sometimes they even describe mimicry of like
- 12:12Speaker 5: a human voice will go on.
- 12:14Speaker 7: You know what's funny?
- 12:15Speaker 12: The whole mimicry... And the baby crying thing, that is
- 12:19Speaker 12: what a lot of people say the Popelik monster is
- 12:22Speaker 12: supposed to do. And when I was looking into the
- 12:26Speaker 12: Popelik story, there is no signature case. It's pretty much
- 12:32Speaker 12: a campfire story. The only kind of real tangible case
- 12:36Speaker 12: is this story in either the 30s or the 40s about,
- 12:41Speaker 12: a group of Boy Scouts getting attacked by it. So again,
- 12:44Speaker 12: campfire stories probably all made up, but it was in
- 12:49Speaker 12: a time period before the term Bigfoot came into the
- 12:56Speaker 12: national consciousness. So if it had been after 58, after Bigfoot,
- 13:04Speaker 12: a term had gotten popular, they probably would have said,
- 13:07Speaker 12: that it was a Bigfoot, but they didn't know that word,
- 13:09Speaker 12: so they described it as something else.
- 13:12Speaker 2: So this state actually does.
- 13:15Speaker 12: Have kind of an interesting history with wild men or
- 13:20Speaker 12: monstrous type of things out there.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But it was weird, and it was actually after right
- 13:25Speaker 2: about the time that you'd mentioned that there had been
- 13:27Speaker 2: a lot of sightings and other incidents in that particular valley.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I was just filming for one of my low-budget things,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and it was.
- 13:38Speaker 7: It was late.
- 13:38Speaker 2: It was probably about 2 in the morning. We were
- 13:40Speaker 2: out there filming. It was me and three other fellows.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And we were just filming on my parents' property. And
- 13:48Speaker 2: one of the actors had decided he wanted to change
- 13:51Speaker 2: something around. In the scene prior, they get visited by
- 13:56Speaker 2: the ghost of the woods. And he tells them, he's like, well,
- 13:59Speaker 2: do you know what the greatest killer in these woods are?
- 14:01Speaker 2: And I think the line I'd originally written was peacocks. Like,
- 14:04Speaker 2: he's just like, peacocks? It's just like some stupid guess.
- 14:06Speaker 2: But then he's like, no, let's change it to Sasquatch.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I was like, all right.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I was just open for whatever we wanted to do.
- 14:12Speaker 2: So they're in this scene where basically they're wandering around
- 14:15Speaker 2: in the woods and they keep hearing sounds. And just
- 14:17Speaker 2: one of them just overreacts completely. And he just screams, Sasquatch!
- 14:21Speaker 2: And runs off into the night. Well, in this one
- 14:25Speaker 2: take that I've got on video, he... screams Sasquatch and
- 14:29Speaker 2: runs off, and Wade just kind of laughs, like, you
- 14:30Speaker 2: ran the wrong way, and he knocks the light over,
- 14:32Speaker 2: so it's completely pitch black. And then, like, in that
- 14:36Speaker 2: little lull when nobody's saying anything, you hear this very
- 14:41Speaker 2: bizarre sound. I mean, that's the only way to describe it.
- 14:43Speaker 2: It's not like, I don't know, it's just, it's not bird-like,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and it's not, you know, like a cougar or coyote
- 14:55Speaker 2: or anything. It's just very odd.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 5: It's a strange noise.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And at that point, we're all just like, my brother
- 15:03Speaker 2: was out filming too. And, you know, he's same as me,
- 15:06Speaker 2: grew up in the woods all of life. And we
- 15:07Speaker 2: just heard that sound. And, you know, the other guys,
- 15:09Speaker 2: they live in the city and there's like, what's that?
- 15:11Speaker 2: And my brother, John and I were like, shh, because
- 15:13Speaker 2: we were like, what the hell is that? And then
- 15:18Speaker 2: I sent it in to Charlie and he sent it
- 15:20Speaker 2: to somebody and they couldn't figure out what the sound
- 15:22Speaker 2: was whatsoever.
- 15:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 2: He's like, that's just really weird.
- 15:25Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 5: And this was right around that time I had been
- 15:28Speaker 5: talking to Charlie. We actually did a little driving tour
- 15:30Speaker 5: out there.
- 15:30Speaker 9: Yeah, it'd be February of 11.
- 15:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 2: February 2011.
- 15:36Speaker 5: He started telling me about these reports, which I'd be
- 15:39Speaker 5: going to him heavy because they're kind of his deal.
- 15:41Speaker 5: But it's like in Bullitt County, right around Claremont.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 15:45Speaker 5: And right around... The forest there.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah, because I remember you mentioned one of the roads.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You're like, do you know what that is? I'm like, yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 2: that's just a couple.
- 15:52Speaker 5: There have been multiple reports since the 70s of people
- 15:54Speaker 5: seeing stuff across the road, some dogs being slaughtered, all
- 15:58Speaker 5: this crazy stuff had gone on. And he starts pointing
- 16:01Speaker 5: out these spots to me, and they're all around where
- 16:02Speaker 5: your parents live.
- 16:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 5: So I was like, oh, that's pretty weird.
- 16:06Speaker 2: He still wants to come out to my parents' property
- 16:07Speaker 2: because they've got like 10 acres.
- 16:08Speaker 5: There's a law enforcement officer out there who has seen things.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, who apparently lives in the same.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Neighborhood as them.
- 16:15Speaker 7: What time of the year was this?
- 16:17Speaker 2: This was February.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Yeah, winter.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And the other one was like November. So both of them,
- 16:21Speaker 2: it was when it was like cool out, but not
- 16:23Speaker 2: so cold. It was like snow or anything on the ground.
- 16:26Speaker 5: So that's, you know, intriguing. The reason I introduced those
- 16:34Speaker 5: guys is because Charlie had talked to me about something
- 16:37Speaker 5: that I actually saw. I'm not going to hijack the show.
- 16:42Speaker 5: It's a very elaborate story. And a good story. I
- 16:45Speaker 5: won't deny it. And that I saw something that I
- 16:48Speaker 5: can't describe in any other way than to say, well,
- 16:51Speaker 5: it looked like Bigfoot.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Where was this?
- 16:53Speaker 5: This is at Green River State Park in Adair County.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Where?
- 16:56Speaker 5: Adair County.
- 16:57Speaker 7: I'm not sure. Is that north-south?
- 16:59Speaker 5: South. It's about 100 miles south if you're near Lake Cumberland.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 17:02Speaker 5: And Green River Lake is there. And, you know, I
- 17:06Speaker 5: had been bouncing around getting back into the Bigfoot thing
- 17:08Speaker 5: and the Kentucky Bigfoot website had current reports. This is
- 17:13Speaker 5: what I always like to point out, is that the
- 17:15Speaker 5: anecdotal evidence for Bigfoot is interesting, and it can be impressive,
- 17:18Speaker 5: especially when it's not coming from investigators, because those people
- 17:22Speaker 5: are all mostly crazy. But just the average guy who
- 17:25Speaker 5: walks out and sees something weird in the woods or
- 17:27Speaker 5: hears a strange sound or things like that, those are
- 17:29Speaker 5: interesting stories, and they go back a long way. And
- 17:33Speaker 5: there was a story from nearby where we have a
- 17:36Speaker 5: farm that was quite recent. Uh, it was in May
- 17:39Speaker 5: and I was there in September and it was a
- 17:41Speaker 5: woman who had been driving across a bridge, run away
- 17:44Speaker 5: across this bridge. I knew exactly where the road was,
- 17:46Speaker 5: where she said, I think I saw Bigfoot. She said,
- 17:49Speaker 5: I was driving home from the veterinary hospital with a dog. Uh,
- 17:54Speaker 5: she said, as I was coming down the hill, I
- 17:55Speaker 5: saw something large and dark start walking across the road.
- 17:58Speaker 5: It was around five in the afternoon, so it wasn't dark.
- 18:02Speaker 5: And she said it, she slowed down because this thing
- 18:04Speaker 5: was kind of big. And, uh, it crossed the road
- 18:08Speaker 5: into this one area, and as she got closer, she
- 18:10Speaker 5: slowed down, and it walked back out into the middle
- 18:13Speaker 5: of the road and stared at her. Really?
- 18:15Speaker 7: I've never heard that.
- 18:16Speaker 5: And she said that it stood there literally swaying, which
- 18:20Speaker 5: is a known kind of behavior.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Swaying and looking at her, and then turned and walked
- 18:24Speaker 5: back into this area. I was like, that's cool, because
- 18:28Speaker 5: that's real close to where we have a farm. And
- 18:31Speaker 5: so I started looking into the area and spending some
- 18:35Speaker 5: time down there, and that's a long story. I left
- 18:38Speaker 5: a cam up in the woods there. The interesting thing
- 18:44Speaker 5: about the area where she'd seen it cross into was
- 18:47Speaker 5: it was a pull-off on the side of the road,
- 18:49Speaker 5: which was essentially had become a dump, and a lot
- 18:52Speaker 5: of roadkill and taxidermy waste and dead deer had been
- 18:57Speaker 5: thrown off in that area because I pulled off and
- 18:59Speaker 5: was like, what the hell is this? Bone everywhere. It's
- 19:02Speaker 5: like a bone bed. And headless deer carcasses everywhere. And
- 19:08Speaker 5: a really creepy, smelly place. And I thought, well, if
- 19:13Speaker 5: there's something here, we already had some game cams. And
- 19:15Speaker 5: I said, I'm going to hook a game cam up
- 19:16Speaker 5: down on this trail that goes down to the river.
- 19:18Speaker 5: And I was only going to leave it one night
- 19:20Speaker 5: because it could be stolen. People do walk down this
- 19:23Speaker 5: path to fish.
- 19:24Speaker 12: Yeah, a game can for anyone who lives in a
- 19:28Speaker 12: city and doesn't know. Basically, it's a camouflaged box you
- 19:32Speaker 12: can strap onto a tree.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a digital camera. And some of them have
- 19:36Speaker 5: IR and other features. And this was a cheap one.
- 19:39Speaker 5: It had that. But I just put it up to
- 19:40Speaker 5: say anything walking by that's of a sufficient height will
- 19:43Speaker 5: set this thing off. And uh my family was marginally
- 19:47Speaker 5: aware of why i was down there doing that and
- 19:50Speaker 5: they were being polite and not calling me crazy and
- 19:53Speaker 5: that's nice of them my mom knew that i was
- 19:57Speaker 5: going to get up very early the next morning which
- 19:58Speaker 5: was a sunday and collect the cam and get back
- 20:02Speaker 5: because we had two family reunions to go to that
- 20:04Speaker 5: day which are a big deal down in the country
- 20:07Speaker 5: big extended families and I got up like crack of dawn,
- 20:10Speaker 5: and it was like the foggiest day in the history
- 20:13Speaker 5: of Adair County. It was like really socked in down there.
- 20:17Speaker 5: And she literally told me, she said, you know, if
- 20:19Speaker 5: you go down there this morning, nothing good's going to happen.
- 20:23Speaker 5: And I said, well, I've got to get my camera.
- 20:25Speaker 5: And I drove down, and it was pitch black, heavy
- 20:28Speaker 5: fog all the way down. I rolled up there on 730,
- 20:32Speaker 5: collected the camera. There were a couple of shots on
- 20:34Speaker 5: it you could tell had snapped. and was working my
- 20:37Speaker 5: way back up this hill when I started hearing something
- 20:40Speaker 5: move in the woods nearby. But it's heavy fog, and
- 20:43Speaker 5: it could be anything.
- 20:45Speaker 2: It could be deer.
- 20:46Speaker 5: It's just past sunup. And got up to the car,
- 20:50Speaker 5: put it all away, stepped back, and smelled something really funky,
- 20:55Speaker 5: which is your classic situation. And in this case, yes,
- 20:59Speaker 5: it was big, wet, smelly dog. And I almost laughed.
- 21:03Speaker 5: I'm like, this is such a cliched situation. Why am
- 21:08Speaker 5: I smelling this? But it was weird because I would
- 21:09Speaker 5: smell it, and then I'd step up to the car,
- 21:11Speaker 5: and I wouldn't. It was like very specifically in an area.
- 21:15Speaker 5: And I turned and looked off the road here, and
- 21:17Speaker 5: it's right next to this big bridge, and the lake's
- 21:19Speaker 5: right down there below, but you can't see any of that.
- 21:20Speaker 5: It's all fogged up. And I saw something more or
- 21:23Speaker 5: less kind of stand up near the tree line. And
- 21:26Speaker 5: I'm just staring at this, and I'm like, okay, it
- 21:29Speaker 5: looks like a man... And it's pretty far away. It's
- 21:32Speaker 5: about 80 feet in the fog. As I always say,
- 21:35Speaker 5: it's in the fog. But it didn't look like it
- 21:38Speaker 5: had a head, which is the weird part. I was like,
- 21:40Speaker 5: why does this thing look headless? And the more I
- 21:43Speaker 5: kind of looked at it, the more it looked like
- 21:44Speaker 5: it had a head, but it was really low. It
- 21:46Speaker 5: was holding it really low. And the shoulders seemed very wide.
- 21:50Speaker 5: And it was little more than a silhouette, but it
- 21:53Speaker 5: definitely was weird looking. And it was moving along the
- 21:58Speaker 5: tree lines. And I'm freaking out. Because even though I'm
- 22:03Speaker 5: there specifically to maybe spot something, I'm not prepared to
- 22:05Speaker 5: actually spot something. You're ready to see Bigfoot 250 yards
- 22:08Speaker 5: away through a pair of binoculars or something. And there
- 22:13Speaker 5: were some other guys apparently out there fishing because they
- 22:18Speaker 5: were apparently coming under the bridge, and they were talking
- 22:22Speaker 5: and kind of laughing, and it was kind of loud.
- 22:24Speaker 5: And when this whatever it was heard that, it kind
- 22:29Speaker 5: of let out this odd, low, kind of bawling squall.
- 22:34Speaker 5: That's what it's like, a calf, like, rawr! And I
- 22:37Speaker 5: just stepped back. And it started to move along the
- 22:42Speaker 5: tree line in my direction. And it was freaking me out.
- 22:49Speaker 5: I was getting pretty scared pretty fast. And some odd
- 22:53Speaker 5: noises came out of it that didn't sound very human,
- 22:57Speaker 5: you know. They're impossible for me to imitate, really. But
- 23:02Speaker 5: it really started to shake me up, and the smell
- 23:04Speaker 5: got a lot worse.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It's coming back!
- 23:10Speaker 5: The smell got a lot worse, and I decided I've
- 23:13Speaker 5: got to get out of here. It was like a
- 23:14Speaker 5: raw panic, animal-like feeling. I've got to leave. Like prey
- 23:17Speaker 5: animal type stuff.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And I did.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I started to work around the car, and then another
- 23:21Speaker 5: one of those noises erupted, and it almost just kind
- 23:24Speaker 5: of doubled me over. I was just so scared that
- 23:28Speaker 5: I was just almost non-coherent with that just and i
- 23:33Speaker 5: remember bending over and almost feeling like i should just
- 23:35Speaker 5: lie down on the ground here uh and it'll it'll
- 23:38Speaker 5: go by me walk away or something and it made
- 23:41Speaker 5: no sense i was like okay there's a monster coming
- 23:43Speaker 5: towards me play possum.
- 23:44Speaker 12: That is a that is a very typical reaction as
- 23:47Speaker 12: i so much so much so that a lot of
- 23:50Speaker 12: people are now thinking that bigfoot whatever it is maybe
- 23:53Speaker 12: produces this thing called a.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Infrasound yeah and I used to say maybe, because I
- 23:59Speaker 5: did feel all funny, but when you get all that
- 24:01Speaker 5: adrenaline cooking and all that other stuff going on, you
- 24:05Speaker 5: don't know what it is. But there was that awful
- 24:07Speaker 5: feeling inside. And I'm thinking about, I've got a wife
- 24:10Speaker 5: and kids. Why am I running around out here in
- 24:12Speaker 5: the woods? I got in the car, and it kept
- 24:17Speaker 5: moving up. But I realized that it had stopped when
- 24:19Speaker 5: I had gone around the car. I don't know if
- 24:21Speaker 5: it could see me very well. It kept kind of bobbing.
- 24:27Speaker 5: And the impression I got, whatever it was, was that
- 24:29Speaker 5: it was old. It was grayish looking and whitish looking.
- 24:32Speaker 7: And it was old.
- 24:34Speaker 5: And this is where the foolishness begins. Because I had
- 24:39Speaker 5: a gun in the car. I had a pistol. Which
- 24:42Speaker 5: I always carry down there because we have coyote and everything.
- 24:45Speaker 5: And normally I'd be walking around with this thing strapped
- 24:47Speaker 5: on if I'm in the woods. But I just had
- 24:49Speaker 5: it in the car. And I looked down and I
- 24:51Speaker 5: saw this pistol. And I'm like, okay, I'm going to
- 24:56Speaker 5: The window's down on that side. I'm going to stick
- 24:57Speaker 5: this pistol out, and I'm going to fire a couple shots.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Not at it. I'm just going to fire a couple
- 25:01Speaker 5: shots and see what happens. Because if it's a guy,
- 25:05Speaker 5: it's going to say, whoa, don't shoot me. And if
- 25:10Speaker 5: it's something else, I'm probably.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Just going to leave.
- 25:14Speaker 8: Really fast.
- 25:15Speaker 4: I did.
- 25:16Speaker 5: I reached over, and I reached it out the window.
- 25:18Speaker 5: It's a small. 357 snub nose. And I popped two
- 25:21Speaker 5: shots off right at this dirt pile on the ground.
- 25:24Speaker 5: And it just stopped. It didn't say anything. It didn't
- 25:29Speaker 5: duck down or hide. It just stopped, dead still, right
- 25:34Speaker 5: where it was. And I said, okay, that's enough. And
- 25:39Speaker 5: I brought the gun back in, and I can't remember
- 25:43Speaker 5: if I was actually in reverse or not. I know
- 25:44Speaker 5: I had to shift down to get it, because I'm
- 25:46Speaker 5: leaving at this point. And I start to shift, and
- 25:49Speaker 5: I push the shift button. It's a Honda Element where
- 25:51Speaker 5: the shifter's up high. And I squeezed the shot off
- 25:54Speaker 5: inside the car.
- 25:56Speaker 7: Oh, wow.
- 25:56Speaker 5: And shot the console in the middle of the car.
- 26:01Speaker 5: And it's deafening. So it's like, I'm in a big
- 26:07Speaker 5: metal box, and I just fired a.
- 26:08Speaker 4: 357.
- 26:08Speaker 7: Wow.
- 26:10Speaker 5: So if it wasn't bad already, it was really.
- 26:12Speaker 4: A lot worse.
- 26:12Speaker 5: It was like, fuck! And I just floored it and
- 26:15Speaker 5: went down the road.
- 26:16Speaker 12: If that had happened in a movie, the car would
- 26:18Speaker 12: have exploded.
- 26:19Speaker 5: It would have blown up. Lucky the gas tank's back there.
- 26:22Speaker 5: And I got down the road and turned around in
- 26:23Speaker 5: this church lot, and I'm like, I just was utterly
- 26:26Speaker 5: freaked out by how I was behaving. You know? It's like,
- 26:31Speaker 5: I'm not normally like that. Drove back by, looked, nothing
- 26:38Speaker 5: I could see. I could still smell. And I ended
- 26:42Speaker 5: up damaging the car. Long story after that.
- 26:45Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 5: But I ended up going back to the farmhouse and
- 26:47Speaker 5: trying to try to convey what had happened to my mom,
- 26:50Speaker 5: who was like, I told you something was going to happen,
- 26:52Speaker 5: and my wife, who thought I was crazy.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So much to say out of your saying there.
- 26:57Speaker 12: It sounds so right. I mean, it doesn't sound like it.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Well, I didn't know about any of the infrasound stuff
- 27:02Speaker 5: or anything, or freezing up, or any of that weirdness
- 27:04Speaker 5: that occurs, until I talked to one guy who used
- 27:07Speaker 5: to run a pretty good blog called Blog Squatcher.
- 27:11Speaker 9: Okay.
- 27:12Speaker 5: And he's the only guy I told. I took months
- 27:14Speaker 5: before I told anybody outside of family about that.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I was going to say, I think the only people
- 27:18Speaker 2: you told outside of family was me and Bob. It
- 27:21Speaker 2: was a couple days after you came up to the
- 27:23Speaker 2: theater just to tell.
- 27:25Speaker 5: It was interesting. It was an interesting day.
- 27:27Speaker 12: And you know, so many skeptics will say to someone
- 27:32Speaker 12: who claims to have seen.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Bigfoot, why didn't you take a picture? You're right there.
- 27:35Speaker 7: Why didn't you take a shot at it?
- 27:37Speaker 5: It doesn't enter your mind at all. And the guy
- 27:39Speaker 5: asked me, well, you had the game cam there. And
- 27:41Speaker 5: I'm like, well, yeah, I'm holding a game cam. I
- 27:43Speaker 5: can get it to go off and shake it. And
- 27:45Speaker 5: then I would have a great blurry photo of Bigfoot
- 27:46Speaker 5: like everybody else.
- 27:47Speaker 7: That's what he wants.
- 27:48Speaker 5: If that's what it was.
- 27:49Speaker 7: I think that's.
- 27:50Speaker 12: Why people that are so wanting to believe in Bigfoot,
- 27:54Speaker 12: they will try to find any kind of scientific explanation
- 27:59Speaker 12: for any consistent part of a Bigfoot story.
- 28:04Speaker 7: And that whole.
- 28:04Speaker 12: Infrasound thing is them trying to make sense of this
- 28:07Speaker 12: very common report that you just seize up and you
- 28:11Speaker 12: can't move and.
- 28:13Speaker 5: I call it like hitting the wall of no evidence
- 28:15Speaker 5: there's no evidence so i've got a i gotta seize
- 28:18Speaker 5: on a crazy idea yeah and it goes on constantly
- 28:20Speaker 5: so that experience was kind of my ticket into the
- 28:24Speaker 5: world of bigfoot culture gave me some i guess legitimacy
- 28:28Speaker 5: in the eyes of some of these people but i
- 28:29Speaker 5: got so scared by the world of bigfoot culture i'm
- 28:31Speaker 5: out i'm observing i'm writing a book about aspects of
- 28:34Speaker 5: that but But as it turns out, I started doing
- 28:37Speaker 5: research after all that, and I was like, that area
- 28:40Speaker 5: has a long history. That specific area has a very
- 28:43Speaker 5: long history of strange things, sightings like 100 years worth
- 28:47Speaker 5: that continue to this day. And so that's why I say, yeah,
- 28:51Speaker 5: there's something I think out there. It has very little
- 28:54Speaker 5: to do with the culture that surrounds it. And I
- 28:57Speaker 5: can't tell you exactly what it looked like. It had
- 28:59Speaker 5: a dark face and long arms. It looked airy. I
- 29:04Speaker 5: actually went to the Finding Bigfoot shooting when they did
- 29:06Speaker 5: the Kentucky episode, which is just a terrible episode.
- 29:10Speaker 12: For anyone who hasn't seen it, they actually went to
- 29:12Speaker 12: a log cabin where they were on the porch playing banjo.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, they had to have every cliche imaginable. And
- 29:19Speaker 5: they know about my story. The producer knows about my story.
- 29:24Speaker 5: There was a guy there, an amazing sighting that I
- 29:27Speaker 5: found on the BFRO list, Very near where I was,
- 29:33Speaker 5: in 1953, he and a friend were playing behind the
- 29:37Speaker 5: house and they heard these knocking sounds and they turned
- 29:39Speaker 5: around there's something behind the neighbor's house with a couple
- 29:42Speaker 5: pieces of wood and it's like digging into the ground
- 29:44Speaker 5: and turning over the ground trying to dig something out.
- 29:48Speaker 5: It looked exactly like what I saw. It's the same color.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Gray and white and all this black face. I mean,
- 29:55Speaker 5: it's 1953. And I talked to this guy and he's like,
- 29:59Speaker 5: There was no such thing as Bigfoot in 1953, but
- 30:02Speaker 5: my friend and I, it stood up and it kind
- 30:04Speaker 5: of grinned at them, like a fear grin kind of look,
- 30:06Speaker 5: and they took off. And it went back off to
- 30:08Speaker 5: Green River. All the areas nearby.
- 30:12Speaker 12: I don't know if it's chimpanzees or a gorilla, but
- 30:16Speaker 12: the facial expression that we would say looks like a
- 30:20Speaker 12: smile is actually a gorilla.
- 30:23Speaker 5: Is an aggressive or a fear girl.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I believe it's chimpanzees.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Okay. It didn't make a sound. It just made this
- 30:30Speaker 5: face at them and they were, they were gone.
- 30:32Speaker 12: You know, um, for those who don't know who wouldn't
- 30:36Speaker 12: be a Bigfoot Trekkie, you probably wouldn't know this, but
- 30:39Speaker 12: the term Bigfoot became big in 1958 after a, uh,
- 30:45Speaker 12: newspaper story in California got picked up by the Associated
- 30:48Speaker 12: Press and it went all over the, the, uh, country and,
- 30:52Speaker 12: Prior to that, people were seeing things, but there wasn't
- 30:55Speaker 12: this overriding term, so they would give it little colloquial names.
- 31:02Speaker 12: I almost find stories that take place before 1958 to
- 31:08Speaker 12: be so much more interesting because now you see something
- 31:13Speaker 12: hairy in the woods, you think it's Bigfoot. Prior to 1958,
- 31:16Speaker 12: you didn't know what it was, and yet So many
- 31:21Speaker 12: stories are so similar.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I look at the anecdotal stories and go, well,
- 31:25Speaker 5: there's something there I think that's interesting. You know, Kentucky,
- 31:28Speaker 5: they're really yahoos, and they have all kinds of names
- 31:30Speaker 5: for them.
- 31:31Speaker 2: In Kentucky, Trimble County has its fair share of just
- 31:34Speaker 2: flat-out weird. I don't know if you've ever looked at
- 31:36Speaker 2: any stuff in there. There's a lot of stuff, and
- 31:38Speaker 2: they actually, in 1962, they referred to it as the
- 31:42Speaker 2: Trimble County Beast, or essentially it was describing these big creatures,
- 31:46Speaker 2: and I don't know, I just went up there and
- 31:48Speaker 2: started to end up I went up actually want to
- 31:50Speaker 2: talk to people about the Milton lizard, which was also
- 31:55Speaker 2: called the Knip Creek monster. And that was basically this
- 32:00Speaker 2: reptilian lizard. I mean, they almost describe it kind of
- 32:03Speaker 2: similar to like a Komodo dragon, but I mean, it was,
- 32:07Speaker 2: it would walk on its hind legs and yeah, it
- 32:12Speaker 2: was being cited all throughout that area in the seventies.
- 32:16Speaker 2: It kind of, It was similar to the Loveland Frogman
- 32:19Speaker 2: in its description. And I even kind of wondered, I
- 32:21Speaker 2: was like, well, Loveland isn't that far separated by the
- 32:25Speaker 2: river from Milton. I always kind of wondered if those
- 32:26Speaker 2: two were linked. But in 1962, they had the Trimble
- 32:29Speaker 2: County Beast. In 1955, there was like an 80-pound barn
- 32:34Speaker 2: cat that somebody shot that was going around eating cattle.
- 32:36Speaker 2: And then in 1994, they had a UFO flap up there.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And then in 2000, they had cattle mutilations, all in
- 32:42Speaker 2: this one little county in this small town. in Kentucky,
- 32:46Speaker 2: so it's just a very strange.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's all very localized.
- 32:48Speaker 2: It's a very strange county.
- 32:50Speaker 5: Green River.
- 32:50Speaker 12: They'll probably start doing a festival now every year.
- 32:53Speaker 5: It's like Mothman.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Well, the funny thing, actually, like, the even weirder thing
- 32:56Speaker 2: is most of those other people, like, they try to
- 32:59Speaker 2: promote it, but when I went up there, like, everybody,
- 33:01Speaker 2: it's like they try to keep all that stuff buried.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Even though all these weird things came up.
- 33:05Speaker 5: And up there, they keep trying to just cover them over.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Kentucky's a little different. They're very tight-lipped. I didn't try
- 33:09Speaker 5: to talk to people down around where I was.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Because I tried to track down this woman who'd seen
- 33:14Speaker 5: this thing on the road, and I knew she's in
- 33:17Speaker 5: the vet's office. And they're like, yeah, they just don't
- 33:19Speaker 5: want to talk. They know who she is, but they're
- 33:22Speaker 5: not going to go into it. But they're not like, well,
- 33:23Speaker 5: we're not surprised about anything that might be living in
- 33:26Speaker 5: that area. The Green River Lake is an artificial lake.
- 33:29Speaker 5: It was flooded to make a lake. It was done
- 33:33Speaker 5: in the late 60s. And a lot of the reports
- 33:36Speaker 5: started after that period. Like something got displaced or people
- 33:39Speaker 5: have been seeing things.
- 33:40Speaker 1: You pissed something.
- 33:43Speaker 11: Off.
- 33:43Speaker 5: But you go back and there are stories from the 50s.
- 33:45Speaker 5: There are stories from the 70s. There was a lot
- 33:47Speaker 5: from the 70s. I looked in the local paper and
- 33:50Speaker 5: it's all right around that area where I was.
- 33:52Speaker 12: You are the perfect person for me to ask this.
- 33:54Speaker 12: I think I know what the answer is. Are you
- 33:58Speaker 12: all familiar with the TV show Monster Quest? Oh yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 12: The whole bit was they would they would study or
- 34:06Speaker 12: look for a different monster every week. And of course,
- 34:09Speaker 12: Bigfoot was like the second episode. But then they were like,
- 34:12Speaker 12: oh crap, we're showing you the Bigfoot story, but we've
- 34:14Speaker 12: already done the Bigfoot one. They kept thinking up different
- 34:18Speaker 12: names for the same monster. Like they had one, Sasquatch.
- 34:22Speaker 5: The Grassman.
- 34:23Speaker 7: And then in Ohio, they had the Grassman. It was
- 34:26Speaker 7: a Bigfoot, but they called it the Grassman. I'd never
- 34:28Speaker 7: heard of that term.
- 34:29Speaker 2: They had a Bumble Snowman, too.
- 34:31Speaker 12: And then they did a Kentucky one, and they called
- 34:33Speaker 12: it the Hillbilly Beast.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that was great.
- 34:36Speaker 12: And all throughout this episode, every person that they were
- 34:39Speaker 12: talking to, they kept saying Bigfoot, Bigfoot. But the freaking
- 34:42Speaker 12: narrator kept saying the Hillbilly Beast, the Hillbilly Beast.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It's like they were trying to.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Drive that people home.
- 34:49Speaker 7: And I'm guessing in all your research, no one.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Ever called it the hillbilly beast.
- 34:52Speaker 7: Never, never, never.
- 34:53Speaker 5: It was in marketing. It's a Trimble County beast.
- 34:56Speaker 2: It was printed as the beast in the paper.
- 34:58Speaker 5: It has to be hillbilly beast. And then they had
- 35:01Speaker 5: to do, this is another connection with us, they had
- 35:04Speaker 5: to do the Fairdale Bigfoot. Because right around the time
- 35:08Speaker 5: I had my experience.
- 35:10Speaker 5: I got a call from my wife in the morning.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Did you hear about the Yeti in Fairdale?
- 35:14Speaker 10: Did I ever.
- 35:16Speaker 1: What?
- 35:17Speaker 5: She's like, there's like a Bigfoot in Fairdale. There's a
- 35:19Speaker 5: picture and everything. It's all over the Internet. And it
- 35:22Speaker 5: was all over the Internet.
- 35:23Speaker 10: It was.
- 35:24Speaker 5: And I brought it up. And I was like, and
- 35:27Speaker 5: it's over near the Jefferson Forest, which has had a
- 35:29Speaker 5: couple of interesting reports. And I'm looking at this thing.
- 35:33Speaker 5: I forgot all about that. That looks weird.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I honestly thought it was garbage cans.
- 35:38Speaker 5: It looked too shiny.
- 35:40Speaker 8: Or a garbage bag.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Yeah. And at first I was like, are they trying
- 35:43Speaker 5: to say that this is its back and it's sitting
- 35:46Speaker 5: in a garden? Or are they trying to say that
- 35:47Speaker 5: this is its front and it's got these crazy long
- 35:50Speaker 5: strands of hair?
- 35:51Speaker 7: Have you guys seen this?
- 35:52Speaker 12: The ones who aren't Bigfoot freaks?
- 35:55Speaker 5: Just type in backyard.
- 35:56Speaker 2: The other half of the table is just looking at
- 35:58Speaker 2: us in terror.
- 35:59Speaker 5: These people are nuts.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Like, what the hell is wrong with you? What it
- 36:04Speaker 2: basically looks like is sort of like.
- 36:07Speaker 7: From the waist up.
- 36:08Speaker 2: You can't tell a damn thing in the photo.
- 36:12Speaker 5: And the guy who, you know, his game cam shot
- 36:14Speaker 5: it and he said he'd been, something had been eating
- 36:17Speaker 5: the beans in his garden and he wanted to capture
- 36:19Speaker 5: that on film. Um, got it out there right away.
- 36:23Speaker 5: But within an hour, I was looking at it, and
- 36:25Speaker 5: a friend of mine was looking at it, and we're like,
- 36:26Speaker 5: you know, that looks like a crow. It looks like
- 36:29Speaker 5: a bird snapped in mid-flight. It's descending. And we quickly
- 36:34Speaker 5: found photos that looked just like it, and we started
- 36:36Speaker 5: posting up on the Internet saying, I don't think the
- 36:39Speaker 5: guy's trying to mislead anybody. It's just like, I think
- 36:41Speaker 5: it's a crow. You never heard such violent reactions from
- 36:44Speaker 5: bigfoot believers. They wanted to kill us, to hunt us
- 36:47Speaker 5: down and kill us. And we're like, no, I really
- 36:49Speaker 5: think it's a crow. It's so bad. But that happened
- 36:51Speaker 5: to be on the Kentucky episode. Because I remember I
- 36:54Speaker 5: turned it on and I said, oh no, they're going
- 36:56Speaker 5: to talk about the crowfoot. But they did debunk it
- 36:59Speaker 5: on the show. So props to MonsterQuest. It was a
- 37:02Speaker 5: hell of a lot better show than Finding Bigfoot.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Of course, you mentioned people having to believe, and I
- 37:05Speaker 2: guess this will try to loop folks back in with
- 37:08Speaker 2: the movie. I love Herzog's incident at Loch Ness. Because
- 37:13Speaker 2: it starts off with this whole premise that he is
- 37:15Speaker 2: going to do a documentary on why it is that
- 37:17Speaker 2: things like Loch Ness and Bigfoot and all these other
- 37:21Speaker 2: cryptids exist. It's like, why is it that we, as
- 37:24Speaker 2: human beings, feel the need to believe in something like that?
- 37:27Speaker 2: And almost just, I'm like, that is actually a good question.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I would like to see him do the legitimate documentary
- 37:32Speaker 2: of that, even though the whole thing turns into like
- 37:34Speaker 2: a mockumentary slash Blair Witch thing.
- 37:36Speaker 5: It's a very funny movie. Very funny. But, yeah, it's
- 37:40Speaker 5: the thing. I mean, you know, I've had some odd experiences,
- 37:42Speaker 5: and I'm very interested in the subject. Yet, when I
- 37:44Speaker 5: got into the culture, I was horrified. I was horrified
- 37:47Speaker 5: by the crazy people. I absolutely agree.
- 37:50Speaker 12: In theory, I should love the Grateful Dead, but the
- 37:55Speaker 12: culture turns me off.
- 37:56Speaker 10: It's one of those.
- 37:59Speaker 5: It's the same thing. It's very much like a religious movement,
- 38:01Speaker 5: and it's like you have to believe all or nothing
- 38:04Speaker 5: as far as they're concerned. And they have certain articles
- 38:07Speaker 5: of faith, and one of the big articles of faith
- 38:09Speaker 5: is the Patterson footage. And I don't believe in the
- 38:11Speaker 5: Patterson footage.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Oh, you don't?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Patterson footage is like the book of Genesis or something.
- 38:15Speaker 5: I think it's fascinating, but Roger Patterson was making a documentary.
- 38:20Speaker 5: It's openly stated. I have his book, which predates his footage.
- 38:26Speaker 5: And he was openly making a Bigfoot documentary.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Working with John Chambers, wasn't he?
- 38:31Speaker 5: No, that's one of the big myths. They said, no,
- 38:33Speaker 5: John wasn't involved. John was involved in another Bigfoot movie.
- 38:38Speaker 7: Minnesota Iceman.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Okay, John, that's what I'm thinking.
- 38:40Speaker 5: John didn't even do the Minnesota Iceman. It turns out
- 38:43Speaker 5: it was another guy. But they've been throwing that up
- 38:45Speaker 5: for years, and that's a myth that perpetuates too. Bob Burns,
- 38:48Speaker 5: Brick Baker, they all say John Chambers made that Bigfoot suit.
- 38:50Speaker 4: No, he didn't.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Roger Patterson made the Bigfoot suit. He was a very
- 38:55Speaker 5: talented guy. He was an artist. He was a saddle maker,
- 38:57Speaker 5: a carpenter. And he was going to make, he was
- 39:00Speaker 5: a believer, but he was going to make a Bigfoot documentary.
- 39:03Speaker 5: And what I always ask true believers is like, okay,
- 39:06Speaker 5: you admit he was going to make a Bigfoot documentary,
- 39:08Speaker 5: and he had his buddies dressed up as Indians, and
- 39:10Speaker 5: there were going to be flashbacks to the 1800s where
- 39:11Speaker 5: they were telling their Bigfoot stories. And I was like,
- 39:14Speaker 5: how many Bigfoot documentaries have you ever seen where they
- 39:17Speaker 5: don't show Bigfoot? They always show Bigfoot. They always get
- 39:22Speaker 5: a guy in a suit. All these other people will
- 39:24Speaker 5: keep saying, well.
- 39:25Speaker 10: No, no, no.
- 39:26Speaker 5: See, he set out to do one thing, and he
- 39:28Speaker 5: ended up accidentally capturing this foot.
- 39:30Speaker 4: No, he didn't.
- 39:31Speaker 5: He realized, you know, I don't have to finish the
- 39:32Speaker 5: documentary if I just claim to have shot this creature
- 39:37Speaker 5: walking across my path with my friend. And that's what
- 39:40Speaker 5: they did. And I believe that the guy, Bob Hieronymus,
- 39:43Speaker 5: his buddy, is in the suit. And I believe it's
- 39:45Speaker 5: a decent suit that's filmed from far enough away in
- 39:49Speaker 5: shaky 16mm.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Yeah, with an old film stock.
- 39:52Speaker 7: Publicly, I have to agree with you. Privately, I'm still.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Well, it's fine.
- 39:58Speaker 5: And I'm fascinated with the Patterson footage, and I love
- 40:00Speaker 5: Roger Patterson. I love him as a hoaxer or whatever.
- 40:03Speaker 5: I think he's a cool guy. He's an interesting man.
- 40:06Speaker 5: But no, I don't believe that footage. And that's the
- 40:08Speaker 5: best people can come up with when it comes to
- 40:11Speaker 5: the footage, is that 1967... piece of footage. And that's
- 40:15Speaker 5: an article of faith in Bigfoot. If you start knocking that,
- 40:17Speaker 5: they don't like you much. And I met some of
- 40:20Speaker 5: the most rational people out there who still want to
- 40:22Speaker 5: go for that footage. And I said, you know, I
- 40:24Speaker 5: used to believe when I was a kid, but then
- 40:25Speaker 5: I read about Patterson, and I read about how hard
- 40:29Speaker 5: life was for him, and he was always looking for
- 40:30Speaker 5: an angle. And he finally came up with a good one.
- 40:34Speaker 5: And made some money. And, you know, it became a
- 40:38Speaker 5: big deal.
- 40:39Speaker 12: I think with me, I'm so mad at this Scarty
- 40:43Speaker 12: that Just to spite him, I'm going to say Patterson
- 40:46Speaker 12: film is real.
- 40:48Speaker 7: I'm so mad at Viscardi.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Viscardi is like the lowest of the low, but, man,
- 40:52Speaker 5: there are so many other bottom feeders.
- 40:54Speaker 7: He's coming out with the DVD.
- 40:56Speaker 5: About his version of what happened.
- 40:58Speaker 7: No, no, which is proving Patterson is a fake. Oh, okay.
- 41:02Speaker 7: So just because he's doing that.
- 41:03Speaker 5: It's funny. He works the game from all angles. The
- 41:07Speaker 5: guy who actually did the Bigfoot suit hoaxing, Rick Dyer,
- 41:10Speaker 5: the guy from Georgia who I think was the cop.
- 41:13Speaker 10: No, no, actually.
- 41:14Speaker 5: It was a mad guy. Rick Dyer's out there basically
- 41:16Speaker 5: being a professional asshole in the Bigfoot world. He's always
- 41:19Speaker 5: out there starting fights, and he's got his own website.
- 41:21Speaker 7: I love his grainy YouTube videos.
- 41:23Speaker 5: Yeah, just amazing stuff.
- 41:25Speaker 2: When it comes to Bigfoot and just what I believe,
- 41:27Speaker 2: I've always liked what John Keel sort of theorizes in
- 41:30Speaker 2: the beginning of Mothman Prophecies when he's talking about tulpas.
- 41:35Speaker 2: It's like these projections of the mind, and basically once
- 41:39Speaker 2: they're seen by somebody else, They're then reinforced subconsciously by
- 41:44Speaker 2: the mind. He would talk about how Native Americans, when
- 41:46Speaker 2: they'd be sitting around the campfire and that, when they
- 41:48Speaker 2: would see these spiritual visions, it was actually something that
- 41:51Speaker 2: they were doing that maybe you didn't understand how your
- 41:54Speaker 2: brain was functional in operation. I said, really, if you
- 41:58Speaker 2: accept the ability or if you accept the knowledge or
- 42:00Speaker 2: the idea that that ability could exist, I mean, it
- 42:02Speaker 2: pretty much loops in ghosts, UFOs, anything.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Virtually anything, yeah.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Virtually anything that can't be explained and there's not really
- 42:09Speaker 2: that much evidence for is just this projection that's been
- 42:12Speaker 2: reinforced by those who see it.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Then Kiel takes it further to basically say those things
- 42:16Speaker 5: take on a life of their own. Yeah. Yeah. He
- 42:18Speaker 5: calls them the ultra-terrestrials. If you saw Mothman Prophecies, which
- 42:23Speaker 5: I thought was a really good movie, you'll see some
- 42:26Speaker 5: of that going on.
- 42:27Speaker 12: But then there's the whole Lauren Coleman take on it.
- 42:30Speaker 12: Why do you explain something unexplicable with something just as unexplicable?
- 42:35Speaker 12: He really wants it to be just a flesh and blood.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Just an ink. He's a pretty practical guy, but it's
- 42:41Speaker 5: all flesh and blood. Let me ask the.
- 42:44Speaker 7: Three guys who aren't talking much.
- 42:47Speaker 12: You just heard, which I think is a really great
- 42:52Speaker 12: story from here.
- 42:54Speaker 7: What do you guys think about, could it exist? Is
- 42:59Speaker 7: it all? What do you guys think?
- 43:02Speaker 6: I think for us to say that we know everything
- 43:06Speaker 6: is crazy.
- 43:08Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 43:10Speaker 8: Every time, just when you look in the world of.
- 43:13Speaker 6: Science, every time they have something closed off and explained
- 43:19Speaker 6: or they get to the limit of what we believe.
- 43:24Speaker 5: Is, this is the.
- 43:25Speaker 6: Smallest particle or this is the furthest we've seen in
- 43:27Speaker 6: space or whatever, there's always that next step that, A
- 43:32Speaker 6: lot of times people, you know, in the past, well,
- 43:37Speaker 6: we'll explain that off by God or we'll explain that
- 43:40Speaker 6: off by that doesn't.
- 43:41Speaker 8: Exist or whatever.
- 43:43Speaker 6: And, you know, I've been out in the woods enough,
- 43:48Speaker 6: a lot of backpacking, a lot of, you know, five
- 43:50Speaker 6: days in.
- 43:51Speaker 7: You had peed off of mountains.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Where you're truly in wilderness situations where you're not going
- 43:59Speaker 6: to get out for days.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Maybe witnessed and maybe heard things that, who knows? In
- 44:08Speaker 6: South America, in Alaska, in the Southwest, all especially, you think, well, did.
- 44:14Speaker 8: I witness something? Did I not? And you just tell yourself,
- 44:20Speaker 8: that was me.
- 44:22Speaker 6: Just like you're walking up the stairs from your basement
- 44:25Speaker 6: and you think, gosh, there could be a ghost down here.
- 44:28Speaker 6: And then that's at the bottom of the step. And
- 44:31Speaker 6: by the time you get to the top of the step.
- 44:33Speaker 2: You've creeped yourself out.
- 44:35Speaker 8: It's behind you and about to pull you down the stairs.
- 44:38Speaker 5: Yeah, you're moving a lot faster by the time you
- 44:39Speaker 5: get to the top.
- 44:40Speaker 6: You've created that whole image in your brain. You were
- 44:43Speaker 6: rational at the bottom. You were completely irrational as you're
- 44:45Speaker 6: coming up the landing.
- 44:46Speaker 7: Which is kind of like what you were saying. The
- 44:49Speaker 7: John Keely, you picture it, suddenly it's real.
- 44:52Speaker 5: Right, yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 8: But at the same time.
- 44:56Speaker 6: If you have a rational, credible person telling you a
- 44:59Speaker 6: truly personal story, you've got to give them a lot
- 45:03Speaker 6: of credit until you can just throw it out the door.
- 45:07Speaker 6: There's no reason not to believe him sitting across the
- 45:10Speaker 6: table from me right now. Yes, it could be somebody
- 45:15Speaker 6: in a suit. Yes, it could be it was foggy
- 45:19Speaker 6: and who knows. But there's still a good chance that
- 45:24Speaker 6: You have enough stories, corroborating stories, that you.
- 45:28Speaker 8: Find out after the fact that why not?
- 45:32Speaker 2: There's other crazier things around.
- 45:34Speaker 12: You say corroborating stories, and that's why I like stories
- 45:37Speaker 12: that happened before 58. Because past 58... everybody kind of
- 45:42Speaker 12: has an idea of what a Bigfoot is supposed to
- 45:45Speaker 12: look like.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like after Roswell, all the aliens are described
- 45:48Speaker 2: about the same.
- 45:48Speaker 5: Everybody always points to the Patterson footage and says, that's
- 45:51Speaker 5: what I saw. And I'm like, I don't believe the
- 45:52Speaker 5: Patterson footage.
- 45:53Speaker 12: So if you have a bunch of reports that all
- 45:56Speaker 12: sound pretty much the same and they happened before the 50s,
- 46:02Speaker 12: that is something.
- 46:03Speaker 5: If you're familiar with the Chapman story, the family... The what?
- 46:08Speaker 5: The Chapmans. It happened in the late 40s. I think
- 46:11Speaker 5: they were out in California.
- 46:13Speaker 4: But they were an.
- 46:14Speaker 5: American Indian family living in a modern town. And for me,
- 46:17Speaker 5: it's the most compelling story. And it's... A woman's at home,
- 46:21Speaker 5: or her husband worked for the railroad there.
- 46:23Speaker 7: Oh, is this the.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Stole the fish out of the... Yeah.
- 46:26Speaker 5: And then, you know, the son comes in. He's like,
- 46:27Speaker 5: there's like this big cow or something coming down the
- 46:29Speaker 5: hill through the field. And she goes and looks, and
- 46:34Speaker 5: it's not a big cow. It's this big brown man-like thing.
- 46:36Speaker 5: And it's coming... through the field towards the house and
- 46:41Speaker 5: she starts to freak because she's an american indian she's
- 46:43Speaker 5: heard these stories all of her life about these things
- 46:46Speaker 5: and she gets the kids rounded up and she literally
- 46:48Speaker 5: kind of threw a sheet around them to get them
- 46:50Speaker 5: so they wouldn't see it and it wouldn't see them
- 46:53Speaker 5: and they hustle out of the house towards the river
- 46:55Speaker 5: and just go up the river because this thing was
- 46:57Speaker 5: headed for the house well it went into the house
- 46:59Speaker 5: apparently i mean they took the door down and left
- 47:02Speaker 5: hair on the windowsill and all this stuff and apparently
- 47:05Speaker 5: threw some things around, got out into the shed and
- 47:07Speaker 5: there was a barrel of like salted fish out there
- 47:10Speaker 5: and was able to tear the lid off this and
- 47:12Speaker 5: eat some fish and throw it around and went off
- 47:16Speaker 5: on its own. And then her husband came home from
- 47:19Speaker 5: work later and saw like the house is a mess.
- 47:22Speaker 5: There's a barrel of fish busted open in the yard
- 47:25Speaker 5: and there's footprints everywhere. Where's my family? And he found
- 47:29Speaker 5: them in town. And, um, supposedly over the next two
- 47:33Speaker 5: or three nights whatever it was was coming around and
- 47:36Speaker 5: they heard it a lot but they didn't see it
- 47:37Speaker 5: again and um it's just an interesting story nobody had
- 47:42Speaker 5: anything to gain by telling this story um they had
- 47:46Speaker 5: a lot to lose and as a matter of fact
- 47:48Speaker 5: they did lose they had they had a real weird
- 47:50Speaker 5: tragic life to where those three kids all drowned in
- 47:53Speaker 5: a canoe accident and like the best Bigfoot book ever written,
- 47:57Speaker 5: in my opinion, is Ivan Sanderson's Abominable Snowman, Legend Come
- 48:01Speaker 5: to Life. And it's sort of a global examination. But
- 48:03Speaker 5: you're talking about something that was written in, like, 1961.
- 48:06Speaker 5: And he actually managed to track them down and find
- 48:09Speaker 5: them and interview them up in British Columbia. I think
- 48:11Speaker 5: that's actually where they were. And was utterly convinced by
- 48:14Speaker 5: it because she was talking about the color and talking
- 48:17Speaker 5: about the sound that it made that was very odd,
- 48:19Speaker 5: which he'd heard some other people talk about.
- 48:21Speaker 2: And.
- 48:22Speaker 5: that's a really compelling story there's lots of anecdotal stories
- 48:26Speaker 5: like that that.
- 48:26Speaker 12: Are compelling i love native american stories because they they
- 48:31Speaker 12: honestly tend to be very tight-lipped about.
- 48:34Speaker 2: It yeah they don't talk about it and it always
- 48:37Speaker 2: usually involves too they've heard these stories before it's like
- 48:40Speaker 2: the forewarnings exist.
- 48:41Speaker 5: And there's a difference between the the standard boogeyman tales
- 48:45Speaker 5: like don't wander off from home, or it'll get you,
- 48:48Speaker 5: and people actually seeing things.
- 48:50Speaker 12: Well, you know, it's like in the Pacific Northwest, they
- 48:52Speaker 12: got totem poles, and all of their totem poles are
- 48:57Speaker 12: made with known.
- 48:58Speaker 7: Animals plus a Sasquatch.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:01Speaker 12: To them, it was a known animal. To them, it's like, well, sure,
- 49:05Speaker 12: it exists. You know, why wouldn't it? Should we keep going?
- 49:10Speaker 7: What do you think?
- 49:11Speaker 10: Oh, do I believe that Sasquatch is real?
- 49:14Speaker 16: Sure.
- 49:15Speaker 10: No, but I have a highly overactive imagination.
- 49:19Speaker 17: And just hearing these stories, it just makes me realize,
- 49:23Speaker 17: because I haven't genuinely, I'll be honest, I know this
- 49:26Speaker 17: is ridiculous, but I'll go ahead and say it. When
- 49:28Speaker 17: he was getting into that story earlier about the sighting
- 49:31Speaker 17: and the.
- 49:31Speaker 10: Fog, I heard the sound in the kitchen. I was like,
- 49:34Speaker 10: did they set up something? And a big foot.
- 49:37Speaker 17: So I was like, that would be crazy. I was
- 49:41Speaker 17: prepping for something to happen there for a couple of minutes.
- 49:44Speaker 10: That's where Fred is. That incident is so odd.
- 49:48Speaker 17: And like, I've had someone and it's just like, you
- 49:50Speaker 17: don't know in the moment and it brings back that
- 49:52Speaker 17: mystery and it makes you want to search. So, I
- 49:54Speaker 17: mean like the rational, you know, side of you is like, no,
- 49:57Speaker 17: of course not. But like, you know, I've had instances
- 50:00Speaker 17: like that. Like I'm, I remember one time at a,
- 50:02Speaker 17: boy scout camp we had to uh i think it
- 50:05Speaker 17: was wilderness survival i had to go out and make
- 50:07Speaker 17: a shelter in the woods and you know out of
- 50:09Speaker 17: stuff i've literally stuff i found on the ground and
- 50:11Speaker 17: sleep overnight by myself in the woods well not by
- 50:14Speaker 17: myself i had my friend when it was just us
- 50:16Speaker 17: two and uh and like the troop that was like
- 50:19Speaker 17: next to us and we had to help them too
- 50:20Speaker 17: but uh I found like a piece of sheet metal
- 50:23Speaker 17: for a roof and propped up against a tree.
- 50:25Speaker 10: And that was my, that was my tent, quote unquote.
- 50:27Speaker 17: And, uh, yeah, I was just woken up in the
- 50:29Speaker 17: middle of the night by this awful, like just angry, like,
- 50:32Speaker 17: like these, some, some kind of something like struggling with,
- 50:35Speaker 17: like something was killing something.
- 50:37Speaker 10: And it was very loud. It was very close. Um,
- 50:39Speaker 10: I didn't know what it was.
- 50:40Speaker 17: And all of a sudden, like in for a good hour,
- 50:44Speaker 17: like my mom was just thinking of all these possibilities.
- 50:46Speaker 17: Like there's some monster in the, I was, I was
- 50:48Speaker 17: like 13 years old. I was old enough to realize that,
- 50:51Speaker 17: you know, there's no such thing, all that. But in
- 50:54Speaker 17: that hour, because like I was the only person awake
- 50:56Speaker 17: and hearing this, it was surreal. It was like an
- 50:58Speaker 17: out of body, like something is killing something. And I
- 51:01Speaker 17: just didn't know what to, I know this is stupid,
- 51:04Speaker 17: but it was just crazy. And then I woke up
- 51:06Speaker 17: the next morning to find out that it was two
- 51:08Speaker 17: coyotes fighting each other.
- 51:09Speaker 10: In the woods.
- 51:10Speaker 17: That's what the scoutmaster said. He had heard it too.
- 51:12Speaker 17: I was like, oh, I'd never heard that noise before.
- 51:15Speaker 17: I'd never heard what a coyote sounds like. But it
- 51:17Speaker 17: was terrifying. It was like something out to kill me.
- 51:21Speaker 17: And just moments like those, they get rarer and rarer.
- 51:25Speaker 17: But it came out like when you're retelling your incident.
- 51:29Speaker 17: And yeah, they get you.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Sure.
- 51:34Speaker 5: I applaud that kind of attitude towards me telling it.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Because if I tell that in a venue of true believers,
- 51:44Speaker 5: it's very different. It becomes much more important.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Than it should.
- 51:48Speaker 5: You should be rational about it.
- 51:50Speaker 11: Always.
- 51:50Speaker 2: In all honesty, after you came up and told me
- 51:52Speaker 2: and Bob that, and then you left, we sat there
- 51:55Speaker 2: for probably about an hour just debating as to exactly...
- 52:00Speaker 2: It's like, why would he... We almost wondered if you
- 52:02Speaker 2: were up to something.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Because we've known you for so long, and it's like,
- 52:08Speaker 2: you were very rational by nature. And we're also like,
- 52:12Speaker 2: he fell into all the textbook cliches of it's like
- 52:14Speaker 2: he had the camera, he had all this stuff, and
- 52:17Speaker 2: it's like he comes away with no evidence. Nothing at all.
- 52:20Speaker 2: And we were just sitting around like... That was basically
- 52:24Speaker 2: the topic of the debate. It's like, do we believe Dave?
- 52:28Speaker 5: A friend in Nashville, John Davis, thought I was crazy.
- 52:31Speaker 5: He thought I was losing it. John has had even
- 52:33Speaker 5: weirder experiences.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Because the only thing we could think of is like, well,
- 52:36Speaker 2: if he's making it up, then maybe... he just fucked up,
- 52:40Speaker 2: dropped the gun, and blew the car radio out, but
- 52:44Speaker 2: didn't want Janet to fuck him, so he made up
- 52:46Speaker 2: a very elaborate story to pass it off. It was
- 52:51Speaker 2: a few days later when I saw Janet. It was
- 52:53Speaker 2: at Carl's funeral, because that happened right around that time.
- 52:57Speaker 5: Just a couple weeks before that.
- 52:58Speaker 2: And I saw her, and I said, so y'all just
- 53:00Speaker 2: got back the car? She's like, yep. So I heard
- 53:04Speaker 2: the story about what happened to the radio, and she's like,
- 53:08Speaker 2: I don't want to talk about it.
- 53:10Speaker 5: My wife walked away that morning.
- 53:12Speaker 4: She couldn't deal with it.
- 53:13Speaker 5: That's how she deals with stress. She has a very
- 53:14Speaker 5: stressful job.
- 53:17Speaker 2: You're more stressful.
- 53:18Speaker 5: You could ask my mom about what I looked like
- 53:22Speaker 5: and how I was acting. It's like I was in shock.
- 53:25Speaker 5: That's what I think Janet said.
- 53:27Speaker 2: She just came in and started throwing up in the bathroom.
- 53:30Speaker 5: I got sick far before that. I was sick. I
- 53:32Speaker 5: was physically ill. Then I started looking up later in
- 53:36Speaker 5: the day symptoms of shock. I was in shock. because
- 53:39Speaker 5: I had to ride back with my car with a
- 53:41Speaker 5: car hauler I had to get it up to Lovett
- 53:43Speaker 5: stop running I got it to the farm turned it
- 53:45Speaker 5: off and then it would start because I had shot
- 53:47Speaker 5: through the wiring harnesses and I had to call a
- 53:51Speaker 5: car hauler and tell this hilarious lie to my insurance.
- 53:54Speaker 9: Company there's not a there's not a box for them
- 53:57Speaker 9: to check it was an accidental discharge in the car
- 53:59Speaker 9: which it was an accidental discharge there.
- 54:01Speaker 12: Was this you know air supply song on the radio
- 54:04Speaker 12: and I hate air supply oh not.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Again uh.
- 54:09Speaker 5: And I had to sit there and just kind of
- 54:11Speaker 5: deal with all that stuff as an aftermath, which was scarier, actually.
- 54:16Speaker 5: And there have been a lot of odd things since.
- 54:19Speaker 9: If it was Bigfoot, you made the right move, and
- 54:22Speaker 9: I think that last shot would have worn off anybody.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I mean, even if it's Bigfoot, he's like, that guy
- 54:27Speaker 1: is crazy. He just shot his own damn shot.
- 54:29Speaker 5: I'm like, no, he should at least drop or scream
- 54:32Speaker 5: or don't shoot, and nothing happened.
- 54:34Speaker 7: I was going to steal that car.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I don't want it. This last movie with my friend Jim, um,
- 54:41Speaker 2: cause he's essentially in a big fursuit and all this stuff.
- 54:44Speaker 2: And that was like my, and it was really, it
- 54:47Speaker 2: freaked me out because he came to me the day
- 54:49Speaker 2: we were getting ready to shoot him in that costume
- 54:52Speaker 2: out in the woods. I mean, we were going down
- 54:53Speaker 2: into Hodgenville, Kentucky on this farm property. And, um, as
- 54:59Speaker 2: we were driving down there, you know, I did, we've
- 55:01Speaker 2: got the costume, everything ready. He's like, Hey, I meant
- 55:04Speaker 2: to tell you earlier, I had a really weird dream
- 55:06Speaker 2: last night. I was like, really, what about it? He's like,
- 55:08Speaker 2: about his filming tonight. I dreamed that I died. I
- 55:09Speaker 2: was like, don't say that. He's like, no, I had two.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Because I had one dream to where I was just
- 55:17Speaker 2: in a costume. And I started overheating. And I started suffocating.
- 55:21Speaker 2: And you were freaking out and trying to take all
- 55:22Speaker 2: the makeup off. And you couldn't get it off in time.
- 55:25Speaker 5: And then I died.
- 55:25Speaker 2: And I had another one to where some farmer shot me.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, stop talking.
- 55:29Speaker 5: Stop saying this. Stop saying this.
- 55:34Speaker 12: And then in the dream, you know, I was like
- 55:36Speaker 12: in the woods and I went to this clearing and
- 55:37Speaker 12: then there was Dave.
- 55:38Speaker 7: On the other side.
- 55:40Speaker 10: And I'm like, is that Dave?
- 55:41Speaker 12: And I'm sort of going back and forth and Dave
- 55:43Speaker 12: starts shooting at me and it freaked me out.
- 55:46Speaker 2: There's like some weird time warp going on there. It's
- 55:49Speaker 2: like an episode of The Twilight Zone.
- 55:51Speaker 6: That is the most credible and scary part of that
- 55:56Speaker 6: story is.
- 55:57Speaker 8: If it was a person, it's going to do something.
- 56:00Speaker 8: If it was Mattitude, it could start running.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:03Speaker 8: But that it stands there.
- 56:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 56:05Speaker 5: Well, it literally kind of just froze in place.
- 56:08Speaker 12: Yeah, it's part of the reason that people say you
- 56:13Speaker 12: don't see them is because they are the masters of camouflage.
- 56:17Speaker 12: And part of being a master of camouflage is the
- 56:19Speaker 12: ability to be stone.
- 56:21Speaker 7: Still, you know, to not move.
- 56:23Speaker 12: And, you know, if you just get some guy who's wearing, like,
- 56:27Speaker 12: camouflage pants from, Bass Pro Shop. If you have him
- 56:32Speaker 12: in the woods and you get back like 20 feet,
- 56:34Speaker 12: it's kind of hard.
- 56:35Speaker 5: To see him.
- 56:36Speaker 7: If it exists, it's like the woods.
- 56:42Speaker 5: There's a t-shirt that says Bigfoot is world champion hide
- 56:46Speaker 5: and seek player. It can be right there and you
- 56:51Speaker 5: don't see it. That could also be evidence of it
- 56:53Speaker 5: not being there at all. People are inventing that. But
- 56:56Speaker 5: I tend to think if it's what they say it is,
- 56:58Speaker 5: if it's a co-evolved species, a hominid of some sort,
- 57:03Speaker 5: we're its natural enemy. And it knows what a gun is.
- 57:07Speaker 5: And it's just not going to move.
- 57:08Speaker 12: That's another theory why they say you can't get a
- 57:10Speaker 12: picture is because it sees you holding something metal or
- 57:15Speaker 12: in your hand, and it's going to think, oh, that's
- 57:17Speaker 12: just like those pioneers from 200 years ago who took
- 57:20Speaker 12: a shot at me.
- 57:21Speaker 4: Screw this.
- 57:22Speaker 7: I'm leaving.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Well, that's why I love the Hammer film, Evolved Snowman,
- 57:25Speaker 2: because the.
- 57:26Speaker 5: Whole theory behind that is basically there.
- 57:28Speaker 2: Are these– creatures where they're more intelligent than us and
- 57:32Speaker 2: they're just basically waiting until we kill ourselves. It's a
- 57:36Speaker 2: brilliant movie.
- 57:37Speaker 5: Abominable Snowman in the Himalayas.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Peter Cushing and Forrest Tucker.
- 57:42Speaker 12: That is the movie that Loren Coleman cites as his
- 57:45Speaker 12: Boggy Creek, so to speak.
- 57:48Speaker 5: It's Nigel Neal who did all the Quaker Mass movies.
- 57:51Speaker 2: It's black and white. It's a smart, slick movie.
- 57:54Speaker 12: Maybe if you watch the Patterson film in black and white,
- 57:57Speaker 12: you might.
- 58:00Speaker 7: Hey, Brian, you haven't weighed in. What do you think?
- 58:03Speaker 1: I think the.
- 58:05Speaker 2: I think I opened up a kettle of fish at
- 58:07Speaker 2: this end.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Nah, I'm fine with this. I like the story, and
- 58:10Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 58:11Speaker 9: I think listening to that, it has that same element
- 58:14Speaker 9: that when you hear any stories about the paranormal, because
- 58:18Speaker 9: I'm listening to that, and there's that moment that you
- 58:19Speaker 9: also have when somebody's telling a ghost story, or somebody's
- 58:23Speaker 9: telling some crazy alien abduction story. It's that moment of,
- 58:26Speaker 9: things aren't responding the way they should. Like, if there
- 58:30Speaker 9: were a ghost off in the distance, it would just
- 58:32Speaker 9: stop and stand there. And, you know, it would also
- 58:35Speaker 9: not make any sense for... If it was a person,
- 58:38Speaker 9: they would run or they would do something. But, like,
- 58:40Speaker 9: whatever the paranormal is that comes into play, you're always like,
- 58:44Speaker 9: something's not right.
- 58:45Speaker 1: And things aren't going the way that they should be now.
- 58:47Speaker 9: And I think that is kind of what is interesting
- 58:51Speaker 9: about all of these things.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And I won't... I don't know that I 100% believe specifics.
- 58:58Speaker 9: On any of the paranormal stuff, but at the same time,
- 59:03Speaker 9: much like Greg said, I think we don't know so much.
- 59:06Speaker 10: We think we do.
- 59:08Speaker 1: We think we've got a handle on everything.
- 59:09Speaker 9: But i think there's so many little loopholes out there
- 59:13Speaker 9: in the in in genetics and uh in life and
- 59:17Speaker 9: death and uh the outer space and wherever else you
- 59:20Speaker 9: want to work into this that we just don't understand
- 59:23Speaker 9: and maybe we'll never understand so i think there's always
- 59:26Speaker 9: that doubt and i will always have that doubt that
- 59:29Speaker 9: maybe there is something out there that we haven't seen.
- 59:31Speaker 9: I mean, there's been plenty of cases before where we've
- 59:34Speaker 9: come across things that, you know, we had never seen before,
- 59:37Speaker 9: even evolutionary, you know, we'll say species are dead and, oh, look,
- 59:41Speaker 9: this one turns up off, you know, this Island somewhere.
- 59:44Speaker 12: So granted it was like 150 years ago, but they
- 59:48Speaker 12: used to in Africa, there were, there were stories of this,
- 59:52Speaker 12: of these ape, of these monster man creatures and, Nobody
- 59:57Speaker 12: believed him until someone shot it, and they call it gorilla.
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: But that was a legendary beast.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: Yeah, it was very much treated that way. And there
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: may be other species of great apes in Africa still
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: that we don't know about.
- 1:00:09Speaker 12: And, you know, what you were just saying, Brian, about how,
- 1:00:13Speaker 12: you know, you're sitting here and you're listening to this story,
- 1:00:15Speaker 12: and it's kind of, I think it, you know, Dave's
- 1:00:19Speaker 12: story kind of grabbed us all in like a very,
- 1:00:22Speaker 12: I should.
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: Point out, we're sitting in a restaurant.
- 1:00:25Speaker 12: The lights are all on very, very brightly. We're next
- 1:00:28Speaker 12: to a very busy road. A car is going by
- 1:00:31Speaker 12: every few seconds. Right across from us is this hipster
- 1:00:36Speaker 12: restaurant full of people. And we were still all kind of.
- 1:00:41Speaker 9: Spooked by Dave's... So imagine if we were around a campfire.
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: I wouldn't go to sleep. It still works. It's a
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: good story.
- 1:00:51Speaker 9: And the fact that I know you, like you were saying,
- 1:00:54Speaker 9: I know how normal.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: In quotes.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: Yeah. But, you know, compared to most people and how
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: level-headed you definitely are, I've known you a long time, too.
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: And it's like, you're not one to make up stuff
- 1:01:06Speaker 9: like that. You're also not one to behave like that
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: under any circumstance.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: No, and that was the part that upset me the
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: most was my behavior.
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: It was not my rational behavior. It was not the
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: behavior of me. It was the behavior of something that
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: was like a rabbit.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Which made it.
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: it sort of, you know, it sort of got exponential
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: after a while, so I got so panicky.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: It made it credible for me, because just that irrational fear,
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: it's like, the one time, you know, and that would
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: be a whole different episode, so I won't go into it,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: but the one time where I was like, there's a
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: lot of odd ghost stories surrounding the theater, and I've
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: been kind of skeptical about that, but there was one
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: story to where, I mean, it was involving me just
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: sleeping there for the night, and Basically, I had, and
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: I took me, I think you were the first person
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I told, and I'd kept it to myself for years.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: But it's something where basically it involved me having that
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: same irrational fear, and I could totally understand because it
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: was the same thing. It's like, you know, there's no way,
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: unless you've experienced it, there's no way to describe it,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: but it's just like, You become very primal and animalistic.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: It's that true fight-or-flight sort of thing. It's just the
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: sheer territory where any logic or rational thought just goes
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: out the window, and you're just.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Something I bring up, and it's like I always look
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: for it, because I've always been interested in this stuff,
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: which a lot of people will look at that and say, well,
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: that means you wanted this to happen, and no, I didn't.
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: There is a sense you will get that you don't
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: get under any other circumstances. And that's a sense of otherness.
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: That's how I describe it. It's like, that's not anything
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: like me.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: And that almost applies in any of those scenarios. It's
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: just weird.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: And I've had that at one or two other events.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: It's like, that's not anything like me or anything related
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: to me. And there's no other way to describe it.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: And it's like the hairs up on your neck. It's
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: that primal.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe it's in our DNA to not.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: be well.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: With things that aren't like us.
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: That's not me.
- 1:03:11Speaker 12: Here's something for everybody I'd like to ask. Would you
- 1:03:15Speaker 12: guys want this to be found? Would that, I don't know,
- 1:03:20Speaker 12: ruin it in some way?
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: I think that whatever it is, it's beyond the bullshit
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: excuses of it being elusive. I think the populations are
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: far smaller and far more spread out than people think
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: or want to believe. we haven't found it so far.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: And even if they get some kind of weird hit
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: on DNA, well, they still haven't found it.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: For me, I would actually be kind of saddened because
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: then I feel like it would be exploited once it
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: were actually like.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: And it may not be... We may not be able
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: to find it. And there may be some reason why
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: we can't.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I think it just changes it.
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: In a way, it makes it sad only because it
- 1:04:01Speaker 9: takes that mystery out of it. That same thing that
- 1:04:04Speaker 9: we were talking about earlier, that we're still kind of
- 1:04:07Speaker 9: We need that almost as people. We need that element
- 1:04:11Speaker 9: of something still out there for us to find. And
- 1:04:14Speaker 9: every time we take one of these little things away
- 1:04:17Speaker 9: and we pinpoint it and we go, here's the DNA
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: and here's what it really is, it might be real
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: and it might then have a scientific excuse, but a
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: little piece of that myth dies and then, I don't know,
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: I think we kind of still need.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: That out there.
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: You know what it might be like? It might be
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: like the difference between... seeing star wars before there were
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: there there were.
- 1:04:39Speaker 12: Videotapes and then star wars after videotapes you know it's
- 1:04:43Speaker 12: like i saw this great thing and i got this
- 1:04:46Speaker 12: fuzzy photo when i swear it was awesome i'm trying
- 1:04:48Speaker 12: to remember what it was like a nice callback i'm gonna.
- 1:04:51Speaker 9: Recreate the scene with my figures hold on here's my
- 1:04:54Speaker 9: chewy figure looks just like bigfoot hold on here's.
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: Bobo calrissian reenact what happened.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Han Solo shot a photo first.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: This doesn't have anything to do with Bigfoot movies.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Well, assuming it was Bigfoot... That's right, we were going
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: to talk.
- 1:05:13Speaker 10: About a movie.
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: I forgot about that. He didn't look anything like the
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: one in the movie.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Poor Greg sat through that horrible, horrible movie and he's like, Brian,
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: maybe you should take that last hour and make it a.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Whole separate podcast. This is his own episode.
- 1:05:27Speaker 8: Why do you assume that I think that was a
- 1:05:29Speaker 8: horrible movie?
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: We haven't gotten to that. But if you saw Bigfoot.
- 1:05:35Speaker 10: Well, like Bigfoot.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: I have no evidence to prove that you thought it
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: was a good movie, and I would be very skeptical
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: if you did.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: So this has been a special edition of Movie Meltdown.
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: The Bigfoot myths and legends.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I say we just leave it at this.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: What did you say about that Bigfoot movie? I mean,
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: it was awful.
- 1:05:53Speaker 10: Oh yeah, that thing, Alice Cooper? It was terrible.
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: I think you should make that a separate show, man.
- 1:05:59Speaker 8: It is.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: With that, we will return next week. Same geek time,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:06:10Speaker 16: Tell me who's to say you think that we'd have
- 1:06:15Speaker 16: come this far looking back on yesterday because you hadn't
- 1:06:23Speaker 16: seen sun you tend to disbelieve though you've never known
- 1:06:31Speaker 16: death When someone dies you grieve Though you've.
- 1:06:37Speaker 18: Never seen the good Lord There's ones that worship Him
- 1:06:42Speaker 18: each day You'll.
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: Find them in the chapels.
- 1:06:49Speaker 11: And all they.
- 1:06:50Speaker 18: Need is to pray What's.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: It take to be a believer? Tell me who's to say.
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: You'd think that we'd have come this far Looking back.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: On yesterday guitar solo.
- 1:07:25Speaker 16: If someone long ago hadn't thought we could fly We'd
- 1:07:33Speaker 16: have never gone above the trees We'd have never reached
- 1:07:38Speaker 16: the skies Are there no new surprises?
- 1:07:44Speaker 18: Have we finally learned it all? Could something really be
- 1:07:50Speaker 18: here that we've never found before?
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: What's it take to be a believer?
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: Tell me who's to say.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: You'd think that we'd have.
- 1:08:06Speaker 18: Come this far looking back on yesterday.
- 1:08:11Speaker 16: What's it take to be a believer?
- 1:08:15Speaker 18: Tell me who's the same You'd think that we'd have
- 1:08:21Speaker 18: come this far Looking back on yesterday.
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: So much of that stuff that they're passing off as
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: Bigfoot noise on the internet is just a bunch of
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: city boys out in the woods. They don't know what
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: they're hearing.
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: What's the video of?
- 1:08:43Speaker 17: That footage I was talking about.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: It's just this weird noise in the distance.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Scroll up.
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: Noises.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Noises in the woods.
- 1:08:54Speaker 7: I don't turn.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: It all the way up because it's in the background. Growl.
- 1:09:01Speaker 14: Sasquatch!
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: Wrong direction.
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: What the hell is that? The real Sasquatch.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: What is that?
