- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29In an early morning reflection, you're sitting with me and we
- 0:33are going to talk a bit about having pride in what you have
- 0:36accomplished. Now, I know we all have the
- 0:41ability to say we are not where we want to be.
- 0:43And I know we all have the ability to look at what we are
- 0:48working on currently, our quality of what that looks like,
- 0:51how we're doing with it. And we all, including myself,
- 0:55have a tendency to be critical of it.
- 0:58We definitely have a tendency to be critical of it.
- 1:01And that's fine because I truly believe that when you're looking
- 1:07at something that you're working on and you're saying, OK, this
- 1:10could have been better, you know, we have the understanding.
- 1:15We know. If we're pouring in as much as
- 1:17we possibly could and if we even wanted to do it to begin with.
- 1:20That's why I always say to my clients, what's your scale of
- 1:24commitment to working on whatever you're working on?
- 1:26On a scale of 1 to 10, what is it?
- 1:28You know, one being not at all 10 being off the chart.
- 1:31If you're in an an 8 or a nine, you're going to do a really.
- 1:35So obviously A10, you're going to do a really outstanding job
- 1:39and you might get close at the end and think, OK, I can make
- 1:43another push. I can get it a little bit better
- 1:46and that's fabulous. But if you're doing it to the
- 1:48point where you know it's that nauseam and you're never letting
- 1:51it go, that's when it becomes a problem.
- 1:53But I'm not talking about that state.
- 1:55I'm talking about the other state before it where you know,
- 1:58you're pouring in, you know you're doing your best that that
- 2:02that takes place. OK, I'm talking about the other
- 2:05piece of this that starts before it where you are being so overly
- 2:11critical of yourself that you're not ever letting yourself get to
- 2:15that state. The part where we get into our
- 2:18head and we start being like, well, I don't know if I'm ever
- 2:21going to get there. I don't know if even when I do
- 2:22get there or work out the right way, I'm not quite sure.
- 2:26Maybe I should like, you know, let it go.
- 2:28Maybe I should just do this, maybe that and we start talking
- 2:32ourselves down off of having pride in what we have
- 2:35accomplished because it's not quote UN quote the absolute
- 2:39perfect. But I have, I have a belief
- 2:43about this and and can use the garden as an example.
- 2:46So my gardens are not at all what I expected this year.
- 2:50One of my vegetable garden is off the chart right now, which
- 2:53is great. Everything is growing really
- 2:55well and better than expected, even though we're in the middle
- 2:58of this drought. And I'm so excited about that.
- 3:03And we'll we will see because we've had things like this
- 3:05before and then all of a sudden something hard hits and then it
- 3:09there's, you know, a downturn. But I have so much pride in what
- 3:13I've accomplished out there and every single vegetable coming
- 3:17from seed. But then there's the flower
- 3:20garden. And I had expected so much.
- 3:23I expected something different from it.
- 3:25I started so many flowers and I normally would put them into the
- 3:28cut flower garden and then I would buy stuff for my other
- 3:32garden, for my rambling garden. That is the one we see all the
- 3:36time. And this year, all of a sudden I
- 3:38had this twist in my head. I'm going to put all the flowers
- 3:41in there and I'm not going to do a cut flower garden, which is
- 3:46insane to me. I'm probably going to start one
- 3:48now. It's much later, but who cares
- 3:51when when they show up, it's OK. But I, I had this like
- 3:57overwhelming sense of being so proud of myself for growing all
- 4:02those flowers. I didn't want to put them into a
- 4:06place where I was just going to cut them.
- 4:07I wanted to be able to see them. I wanted to be able to see them
- 4:10interact with nature. So recognizing that I wanted to
- 4:15get into that space, it made me feel a certain way and I was
- 4:20able to change my whole focus. Now, if I just criticized myself
- 4:27for not growing enough, because I could have done that or I
- 4:30could have said I should have put them in the ground.
- 4:32I should have, could have, would have, I should have all over
- 4:35myself as we like to say. I would have never been able to
- 4:38come up with some of these other things.
- 4:40So the point of this is to recognize that when you are in
- 4:45the process of building things and we are always in the process
- 4:49of building things, even if you feel like you're not building
- 4:52and you're just going through mundane life everyday, like, oh,
- 4:55it's the same thing everyday washer and repeat washer and
- 4:58repeat washer and repeat. You're still building something,
- 5:01you're still working on something, you're still in a
- 5:03certain state. So keep that in the back of your
- 5:06mind that you are going to vacillate between having disdain
- 5:11for your accomplishments or criticism for your
- 5:13accomplishments as well as you should be mixing in having a lot
- 5:17of pride. So I just stop myself and say,
- 5:19no, I'm proud that all these flowers going in the ground are
- 5:24grown from seed. I didn't just go by them, and
- 5:28there was a big part of me that had that in the back of my head
- 5:31as one of my possibilities this year.
- 5:33And boy, did it change everything.
- 5:35So allow yourself, as much as you're willing to allow yourself
- 5:38to have the criticism, allow yourself to have the pride for
- 5:42wherever you are in the process because it all mixes together.
- 5:48All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:50will see you tomorrow. Bye.
