- 0:01Today on The Slippery Slope, we're talking about a story
- 0:04that's been circulating all over social media.
- 0:08The viral dress worn by Doctor Carrie Bryant, wife of Pastor
- 0:14Jamal Bryant. The dress.
- 0:16A sheer skin colored dress that had Christians arguing,
- 0:21influences reacting, and Jamal Bryant himself jumping online to
- 0:26defend it. But let me make something very
- 0:30clear from the beginning. This episode is not about a
- 0:34dress. It's about what the dress
- 0:37reveals. Because the real issue here
- 0:40isn't fabric, it's fitness for ministry.
- 0:55So let's start with the moment everyone saw Carrie Bryant steps
- 1:00out in a dress that looks like a second layer of skin.
- 1:04The Internet explodes. Some people defend it, some
- 1:09people condemn it, and Jamal Bryant rushes to frame the whole
- 1:13thing as religious people being judgmental.
- 1:18That's the new tactic. Now, anytime there's legitimate
- 1:23concern, it's labeled church hurt, legalism, or religious
- 1:30trauma. But accountability is not
- 1:33judgement. Discernment is not hate.
- 1:38And modesty, whether we like it or not, is a biblical category.
- 1:44But again, the dress is not the real story.
- 1:49It's the symptom. Then we get the Tamron Hall
- 1:56interview. Jamal and Doctor Gary Bryant sit
- 2:02down and turn the whole thing into a narrative about
- 2:05liberation, authenticity and overcoming shame.
- 2:11It becomes a motivational speech, not a moment of
- 2:15reflection. Everything is horizontal.
- 2:20Feelings, optics, public perception.
- 2:25Nothing is vertical. Holiness, reverence, biblical
- 2:31witness. And that's the problem.
- 2:34When the church starts sounding more like a daytime talk show
- 2:40then the bride of Christ, something is deeply wrong.
- 2:47Now let's pivot to the heart of the matter, the real issue,
- 2:54Pastoral qualifications. If the dress raised eyebrows,
- 3:00it's only because the pastor wearing it on his arm has
- 3:05already raised far more serious concerns.
- 3:10Because the uncomfortable truth is this Jamal Bryant is not
- 3:17biblically qualified to be a pastor.
- 3:22This isn't personal, this isn't slander, this isn't gossip.
- 3:29This is scripture. One Timothy chapter 3 and Titus
- 3:35chapter one. They both lay out the
- 3:38qualifications for a pastor. They say a pastor must be above
- 3:45reproach and one woman man self controlled, respectable,
- 3:53managing his household well and having a good reputation with
- 3:59outsiders. These are not suggestions, these
- 4:04are requirements. So now let's look at the
- 4:10documented facts. Not rumors, not anonymous
- 4:15sources, but public record pasta.
- 4:20Jamal Bryant has fathered children outside of marriage.
- 4:26He has been divorced. He has been involved in multiple
- 4:32public scandals and demonstrated a pattern of behaviour
- 4:37inconsistent with above reproach.
- 4:42A man can be forgiven. A man can be restored to
- 4:48fellowship. A man can walk with Christ
- 4:52again. But forgiveness does not
- 4:56automatically restore someone to the office of pastor.
- 5:02The modern church has blurred that line so badly that people
- 5:07think grace means no standards. But grace restores the Sinner,
- 5:16not the position. And this is where the dress
- 5:22becomes symbolic. This is the church culture
- 5:27problem. A pastor's wife wearing a sheer
- 5:31skin coloured dress isn't the scandal.
- 5:35The scandal is that the church no longer expects its leaders to
- 5:40be set apart. The scandal is that
- 5:43congregations defend the leader instead of the Scriptures.
- 5:49The scandal is that the office of pastor has become a brand and
- 5:55not a calling. We've traded shepherds for
- 6:00influences. We've traded holiness for hype.
- 6:05We've traded biblical qualifications for charisma and
- 6:10camera presence. And the result is a church that
- 6:14looks more like a celebrity fan club than the body of Christ.
- 6:22So This is why the dress matters.
- 6:25Not because of the dress itself, but because it exposes A deeper
- 6:32drift. A drift away from Scripture, A
- 6:36drift away from accountability, A drift away from the fear of
- 6:43God. If the church won't hold its
- 6:47leaders accountable, the world will, and not kindly.
- 6:53And then what happens? We shouldn't blame the world.
- 6:56We should blame ourselves for abandoning the standards God
- 7:02gave us. The dress went viral, but the
- 7:06real story is the disqualification already behind
- 7:12it. This is the slippery slope.
- 7:16And if the church doesn't wake up, we're going to slide a lot
- 7:20further than a controversial dress.

- 7:27Slope. They just
