- 0:36Well, I think it's so important when we are looking to mentors
- 0:39and people and services that we want to hire that we actually
- 0:43see a win across the board. And winning more often
- 0:47frequently is a big part of what we talk about here on the show.
- 0:50Amplifier marketing message. And I'm excited to bring our
- 0:52guest in today. He is a gentleman who is all
- 0:55about letting us win in a bigger way, and he's going to help
- 0:59guide us to do it. So please give a very warm
- 1:01welcome to our guest today. This is Mr. GM Ryerson.
- 1:04Welcome. Welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 1:07Thanks, Christine. How are you this morning?
- 1:09I am very, very, very well. How about you?
- 1:12I'm doing excellent. Thank you.
- 1:13I appreciate it. Excellent.
- 1:16So let's talk about this, because success is defined by
- 1:21every individual differently, and yet success often is a
- 1:26mirage. Why is that?
- 1:28And what are you seeing in the marketplace right now with
- 1:30humans all over the planet? Yeah, that's a great question.
- 1:34And I find often people are trying to live up to somebody
- 1:38else's expectations and don't really have a clear north star
- 1:42of what success looks like for them.
- 1:44And the great examples you'll see is my family expects me to
- 1:47be a doctor or I decided to go into this because I wanted to
- 1:52make X amount of dollars. Well that's cool, but is it
- 1:56actually what you wanted to do? And it sounds like such a basic
- 2:00question, but I find often people don't ask themselves, it
- 2:05is what I'm doing that does it actually fulfill me?
- 2:08Is it aligned with what I want? And I'll, I'll be the first to
- 2:12fall on the sword. I've built companies that I
- 2:14thought awesome, you know, again, the families making a ton
- 2:17of money. And you know what?
- 2:19I'm miserable. I'm on the road all the time.
- 2:21I'm not around my kids. I'm, you know, not taking care
- 2:24of myself. And these are all choices,
- 2:26right? I made the choice to build this
- 2:27company or I made the choice to do whatever thing, but it
- 2:30doesn't mean that it was the right choice.
- 2:32So you're right, success literally does.
- 2:35It's different for every single person.
- 2:37And it's really for you to look inward and say, what do I want?
- 2:42And if this doesn't align, be OK with saying, you know what?
- 2:46This wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
- 2:48I'm going to pursue something different.
- 2:50And and I think that's the beautiful thing about life.
- 2:52We have these choices if we're we're courageous enough to take
- 2:56them. His evolutionary because when we
- 3:00start the pathway, we, you're right, we have this imagination
- 3:03of what success will look like and perhaps even for a time it
- 3:06serves us and we're like, this is what I wanted and I did have
- 3:09some hall markers, but there are moments crossroads, if you will,
- 3:12where we say, is it still serving us?
- 3:15And I think to your point, I believe in elegant simplicity.
- 3:18I believe business is not complicated.
- 3:20I believe life is not complicated.
- 3:22It is important we slow down to say, is this what I want now?
- 3:26Because that may change, change from external factors, change
- 3:30for the Enlightenment and journey you might be on from
- 3:32personal development. It's OK to evolve my friends.
- 3:36Welcome to the human ride. Yeah, I'd love that.
- 3:40The now that that's such an important word, like something
- 3:43that was serving you five years ago where you were really into
- 3:46it. You changed and you upgraded and
- 3:49you got into your kids are off to college now as mine, you
- 3:53know, my oldest is. And you know, there are just
- 3:55things that change and it's OK to change with it.
- 3:59But I I see that scares people all the time.
- 4:01They pigeonhole themselves like, well, this is the career built
- 4:04and I have to stay that way. Look, I'm not suggesting you
- 4:06don't, but if it's not making you happy, if you're not really
- 4:10putting everything into it, perhaps pursue something else.
- 4:13Because life is pretty short, you may as well enjoy it.
- 4:16What do we do when we wake up to that real truth?
- 4:19And again, that's the often to me, it's always a moment where
- 4:22I'm looking in the mirror, brushing my teeth, and it's
- 4:24like, who am I looking at and who do I want to be and how do I
- 4:28want to live? But where do we actually start
- 4:30for standing at that crossroads? And our heart is palpitating.
- 4:33We're thinking, oh wow. I think the first, yeah, no,
- 4:38sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off.
- 4:39I think the first thing I would say is just give yourself grace
- 4:42to be OK with the fact that, Oh my gosh, this business I created
- 4:46or this relationship I'm in, it wasn't what I thought it was
- 4:49going to be. That's OK, Right.
- 4:51And then own the fact that you made these choices.
- 4:54I I, and I'm speaking from personal experience, Second
- 4:57company for me, it was miserable.
- 5:00Six years, literally every single day I woke up and I
- 5:03didn't want to go to that job and we were making a ton of
- 5:06money. It wasn't anything to do with
- 5:07that, but I was making that choice and the moment I actually
- 5:11looked in the mirror and said, you know what?
- 5:12You're making this choice to be in this.
- 5:14You can also make the choice to do something else.
- 5:17There's such an empowering feeling that goes into it.
- 5:20I'm not suggesting it's easy, right, because you have.
- 5:23So much time. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 5:26But you know, just look and, and owning it and saying that's OK
- 5:31and I'm I'm OK with doing something different.
- 5:35That mindset is very, very difficult for some.
- 5:38For some it's easy though. You know, they're used to change
- 5:41and that's cool. But I know for me at that time
- 5:44that was a big thing to just look, own my responsibilities,
- 5:48these are my choices, and then be OK.
- 5:51We give myself the grace to say, OK, cool, what do I want?
- 5:54And start really looking internal for what that is.
- 5:58You had an interesting comment when we were chatting before we
- 6:01came on screen here and it's about this idea that you don't
- 6:04need a strategy, you need a standard.
- 6:07And I think this, I want to talk this conversation around
- 6:09standards because I know I have fascinating conversations with
- 6:12fellow entrepreneurs around do we have our standard and is it
- 6:17high enough? So let's talk about this because
- 6:19people are going to go that word and I'm like, yes, we're really
- 6:23going there. I find often strategies used all
- 6:27the time, especially in business.
- 6:29It's this strategy, it's that strategy.
- 6:31But if that strategy goes against your non negotiables or
- 6:35your standards, it doesn't matter how great it is, you will
- 6:39it will repel you. You will absolutely be miserable
- 6:42when you do. And I've made this mistake so
- 6:44many times. I'll be the first to fall on the
- 6:45sword and be like, Oh my gosh, that strategy sounds amazing.
- 6:49Oh, that means I'm going to be on the road 3 weeks out of the
- 6:51month. Well, maybe that's not the
- 6:53strategy that makes sense for for my non negotiables because
- 6:57my non negotiable, this freedom, freedom of time, freedom of
- 7:02choice, freedom to, you know, create and make whatever I want.
- 7:06And if I'm on the road constantly, I can't do that.
- 7:09That takes away my freedom of being with my kids.
- 7:11It takes away the freedom of going to their ball games.
- 7:13So the strategy may be incredible to build the
- 7:16business, but it's going against my standards or against my non
- 7:20negotiables. That's where you need to slow
- 7:22down and say, you know what, that might be a great strategy,
- 7:25but that doesn't work for what I'm looking for.
- 7:28Ultimately my non negotiables are again, for me, it's freedom,
- 7:32it's love, it's fun, happy, healthy, wealthy are really the
- 7:37three, you know, I look at those things and if any of those
- 7:40things get in the way of those, it that's it doesn't matter how
- 7:43good the strategy is, I'm not going to do it.
- 7:46Now I will say there are there are seasons of life where there
- 7:50are times that, OK, maybe I need to grind a little bit more, I
- 7:54need to travel a little bit more.
- 7:55That's fine. Just as long as it doesn't
- 7:58become systemic. And now this is all I'm doing
- 8:00is, is on the road. So that might be an example that
- 8:03would help people. Oh, that strategy may make
- 8:06sense, but it's actually tearing me apart inside and it's it's
- 8:10tearing away from what's really important to me.
- 8:13Well, there is an interesting mix between short term and long
- 8:18term destinations, right? And I love the word non
- 8:20negotiables. We use it a lot as well.
- 8:22It's like, what are the principles that guide us that
- 8:26build a life that feels like oxygen?
- 8:27Not just build a business that feels like oxygen, build a life
- 8:30that feels like oxygen And recognizing that to have the
- 8:33outcome, there is a journey to be taken.
- 8:36How you choose the journey is a personal decision and it is
- 8:42influenced by effort, reward, mistakes, great wins, people,
- 8:47unexpected opportunities. And I love that you indicate to
- 8:51us that you can choose your standard, you can flex your
- 8:55standard and you can stand very firm in your standard.
- 8:58And how do you help people actually navigate that?
- 9:02Because one thing we are all is impatient about having it all
- 9:06right now. Yeah, again, I think you have to
- 9:10have your North Star. Where am I trying to go?
- 9:12What am I trying to accomplish? And there's a great book called
- 9:16The Gap in the Game and Dan Sullivan, and I think it's Ben
- 9:20Hardy that wrote it. It's a simple idea, right?
- 9:23You can always look at the gap like this is where I need to get
- 9:27to. Let's say I want to make $10
- 9:29million this year and there's this gap I'm at, let's say
- 9:32$2,000,000. I have an $8 million gap.
- 9:34Or you could look at, you know what I'm, I've gained $2,000,000
- 9:39and last year I was at 500,000. So you've actually increased.
- 9:43And the point of this is what are you actually focusing on?
- 9:47What is, are you focusing on what you are gaining in
- 9:51understanding and learning and creation and connections?
- 9:54Or are you constantly looking at what I don't have?
- 9:58And I think that's the part that people sometimes miss when we're
- 10:02so goal oriented. Again, my companies called Let's
- 10:05go win. I understand guys.
- 10:07I am all, I love winning. I absolutely do.
- 10:11And here's the thing, I'm also OK of failing on a daily basis
- 10:16because I'm looking at what am I gaining, not what the gap is.
- 10:21And so I think if people can really slow down and say, what
- 10:24is it that I'm trying to come? What is my North star that
- 10:27always helps bring you back to OK, this is, this is really what
- 10:31I'm trying to accomplish. This is what's important to me.
- 10:35And I think it's easy to get lost because a lot of things
- 10:38happen in in a in a month, a lot of things happen in a week.
- 10:41So it's always good to sit back and reflect on, am I really
- 10:45where I want to be? Are we doing what we want to do?
- 10:48Are we, you know, making strides towards whatever that may be?
- 10:52And oftentimes you're gonna get some great answers.
- 10:54But if you're looking at, oh, a year from now, yeah, you're
- 10:57probably far behind. We're in April.
- 11:00So your goal in the end of December.
- 11:03Yeah. You got a ways to go.
- 11:04But what have you done thus far? How how is the the gap or the
- 11:09gain? Excuse me going for you.
- 11:12It is important that we audit this and so I'm curious for you
- 11:16because we can drift to your point.
- 11:18Our our focus is one of the hardest pieces of now with all
- 11:22of the AI focuses become increasingly harder.
- 11:25And I'm wondering if you have whether it's rituals, best
- 11:29practices that you do to actually do take the moment to
- 11:33evaluate the gap in the gain. What do you do personally?
- 11:36Yeah, so I have 4 non negotiables every morning that
- 11:39keep me grounded and then I have a process that I do every
- 11:42evening. They're very simple.
- 11:43So I do 11 minutes of yoga, 11 minutes of meditation, 11
- 11:47minutes breath work, and seven minutes of chi gong.
- 11:50That is my non negotiable. That is my sacred time.
- 11:53No one gets in that 40 minutes that is mine.
- 11:57That keeps me grounded and allows me to show up as the best
- 12:00version of me. In the evening time.
- 12:02I have my journal, which happens to be right next to me because I
- 12:05was writing in it this morning. And that allows me to reflect on
- 12:10how did the day go? How did I show up?
- 12:13Did I actually do what I set out to do this morning?
- 12:16And again, it's not to judge, It's rather to just sit back and
- 12:20reflect and say, am I actually pursuing what I want to pursue?
- 12:24Am I doing the things, or is this the wrong goal all
- 12:28altogether, which oftentimes you'll find if you're resisting
- 12:32a lot, maybe it's just not the right time.
- 12:36And so those two things in the morning and then in the evening,
- 12:40just allow me to stay present to say, you know what, I am in the
- 12:44right place. I am making strides in the right
- 12:46direction. Without it, it's amazing how
- 12:49quickly you're like, Oh my gosh, I just what we're, we're halfway
- 12:53through the month and what happened?
- 12:54I didn't accomplish anything I wanted to do.
- 12:57That's because he didn't slow down just to, to check in and
- 13:00say, yeah, I'm on, I'm on course or I need to shift.
- 13:04So those are the things that I do to to keep me grounded.
- 13:07I appreciate you sharing that it's so important to recognize
- 13:10to have what you want, you must measure where you're at and
- 13:14spend time in the vision of am I living in the non negotiables?
- 13:18And that is, I always think there's a really interesting
- 13:21take that we have. Many of us hate the word
- 13:24accountability. And I remember many years ago
- 13:28meeting an incredible business owner and she said something
- 13:31that was really profound. It lingers to this day.
- 13:33Accountability, if you go back to the Latin word of it's just
- 13:35measurement. There's no judgment part of it.
- 13:37So to your point, I'm not judging myself.
- 13:40I'm taking stock. I'm having the discipline.
- 13:42And guess what? I also then have immediate
- 13:46places for course correction, which means I love my life more
- 13:49in the short term and in the momentum I build step by step.
- 13:52So you believe that people are interested in getting what they
- 13:57want, but they're not always committed to it?
- 14:00How come this exists? Because this is exactly the gap
- 14:03in the game. Yeah, what's the?
- 14:04Difference. And how do we know if that's us?
- 14:06That's an interesting question. I'd love this because so often.
- 14:09Again, I'll give an example. January 1st, you hear people do
- 14:14New Year's resolutions and those that are interested say, you
- 14:17know what, I want to lose 30 lbs and they say it out loud and and
- 14:21so they're interested in doing it.
- 14:23The committed ones, they actually write it down and they
- 14:26write down I'm going to lose 30 lbs.
- 14:28Here's my plan. How the really committed ones
- 14:31then take that piece of paper and they put it in their
- 14:33bathroom mirror. And the reason this is
- 14:36important, the difference between being interested like
- 14:39just saying that out loud or looking at it every single day.
- 14:43The committed ones, you're 80% more likely to accomplish that
- 14:47goal just by writing it down and putting in your bathroom mirror.
- 14:50That commitment is so much different than just haphazardly
- 14:54saying, yeah, I'm interested in in losing 30 lbs.
- 14:58So it's such a small act it just writing it down and looking at
- 15:03it every single day. And yet, if people listening
- 15:06right now and again, as this isn't a judgment, but how often
- 15:10have you looked at your goals? How often did you look at what
- 15:13you really said you were committed to at the beginning
- 15:17of, of, of your month of your year?
- 15:21And oftentimes it's I had that. Oh yeah, put it in the in the
- 15:25drawer somewhere. Yeah, that's the challenge.
- 15:27Because life is going to happen. Your your dog's going to die.
- 15:30Your girlfriend's going to break up with you.
- 15:32The truck's going to break down. Like name the country song it's
- 15:34going to play. And that's what's going to
- 15:36derail you from actually accomplishing your goals.
- 15:39The committed ones go through all that, but they're so focused
- 15:43because they can see them on a daily basis.
- 15:45So it is a simple act, but I often see the interested ones.
- 15:50I didn't lose the weight. I don't know why the committed
- 15:53ones that wrote it down, looked at it, actually did the actions.
- 15:56I they lost the weight and they're happy.
- 15:58So it's a simple act, but oftentimes people don't do it.
- 16:02They really won't and the results prove it and there is an
- 16:06honesty of that moment. So take the insight that Jim is
- 16:10saying and write down your goals.
- 16:12Make sure there's proximity to them.
- 16:14And it isn't to set it and forget it because you're set it
- 16:17and forget it is the problem. But if you have non negotiables
- 16:21and you say, am I moving in the direction?
- 16:22Am I auditing how this is performing?
- 16:24Your results will be more satisfactory and less of a gap
- 16:30than maybe they are right today. And I love this idea.
- 16:34I always tell my clients you have to be committed past the
- 16:36point of convenience in order to create momentum.
- 16:40It's a great saying and absolutely correct.
- 16:42Look, it's never gonna be perfect.
- 16:45That's the other thing, right? If we wait for it to be perfect,
- 16:48it's never gonna happen. Life will happen, Versity will
- 16:51strike you. But if you're really committed,
- 16:53none of that matters. And it doesn't mean that we
- 16:56don't adjust speeds, but we do also take stock up to your
- 16:59point, intentionality, I think is the key to this.
- 17:02And that way we really have a life on paper that looks as good
- 17:05in real life because it's congruent, it is In Sync, it's
- 17:08working in momentum together. I'm curious for you in your
- 17:11business, what's working right now for you to support people?
- 17:14Because we get this intellectually and I love this
- 17:17simplicity of this, but we suck it simple because the world is
- 17:21selling its complexity. So what's working for you right
- 17:23now in your business? And how do you see momentum in
- 17:27the business to help us? Because truthfully, I know many
- 17:29in the audience will say I got this, but I'm still lost in, I'm
- 17:35distracted and I'm not winning. How do we win more?
- 17:37Yeah, so I actually every company I advise, I help them
- 17:40with the one sheet and it is literally the most simple thing
- 17:44in the world and yet most companies don't have it.
- 17:47It is being put into the app 20 years in the making, Christine,
- 17:50that I have been thinking and working and all this content and
- 17:54because of incredible technology and amazing partners that I'm
- 17:58with, I will have the app launched by May 1st.
- 18:02So whenever this comes out, yes, yes, thank you.
- 18:05And what's so cool is these are tools that I've been using for
- 18:09years and people that coach with me one-on-one, they get these
- 18:12tools, but it wasn't always readily available to everyone.
- 18:16And now it's going to be so the wind performance platform, you
- 18:19know, based the Let's Go Win app, all of these things that I
- 18:23talked about are right in there and so user friendly.
- 18:25So I'm very, very excited for people to get a chance to get in
- 18:30there and and really again, upgrade your life.
- 18:32Nothing's wrong with it, but if you want a little bit better,
- 18:36you know this. This app's going to absolutely
- 18:38help you get there. I love this.
- 18:40So I also want to just highlight one thing you said for everybody
- 18:43who's feeling like a work in progress.
- 18:47It takes a runway to build momentum.
- 18:52It takes you said many years in the making to get this app, many
- 18:56years of self reflection to course correct.
- 18:58This is permission to evolve. This is permission to also seek
- 19:03the support because the light bulb went off and said I want to
- 19:06improve. What I have is not saying I hate
- 19:09what I have. It's saying there is something
- 19:11more and I am hungry to pursue it.
- 19:14So how do people connect to you, to what you do, and to the Let's
- 19:17Go Win both community and the app that will be launching this
- 19:20spring? Yeah, Let's Go win.com is the
- 19:23easiest place to find me. And if you put in Let's Go Win
- 19:26on any social media platform, you'll find me as well.
- 19:29But I really do hope people get a chance.
- 19:31There's a ton of free resources both on the website and on the
- 19:34app, but the whole idea is to inspire people live their best
- 19:38lives. So come be a part of the
- 19:40community. It's a lot of people talking
- 19:42about how to, you know, upgrade their lives, how to how to win a
- 19:46little bit more. And we'd love for people to take
- 19:49that opportunity. Do that.
- 19:51And so I want to ask you one final thing is, what does
- 19:54winning mean for you today, right now with this launch
- 19:58ahead, with this amazing energy that's around it, But what does
- 20:01winning look like today in your world?
- 20:04To be where my feet are. You know, one of the things that
- 20:07I've often said is past this pain futures, anxiety, presence
- 20:12is everything. And as busy as it is, I mean,
- 20:15literally, I'm working on five different companies right now
- 20:20and it's a lot. But to really be present in that
- 20:24moment. So when I'm done with my work
- 20:26day, I'm present with my family. When I am on with you, I'm 100%
- 20:31with you. That has 100% just been a life
- 20:36altering in a great way. So I'd be where your feet are.
- 20:40People have heard that saying, but when you really stop and
- 20:43think about it, just be there. So, and thank you, Christine,
- 20:47you, you host an incredible show and I'm just so humbled to be a
- 20:50part of it. Thank you.
- 20:51It's been a great pleasure to have you here.
- 20:52This is your invitation. I think that's for all those
- 20:55that know me well. That's a post it note moment.
- 20:57Write it on your space, be where your feet are and slow down to
- 21:02have the intentionality to win in every facet of your life.
- 21:07I think one of the most important things I'm hearing
- 21:09from what you brought in, the expertise that you share to the
- 21:11world is it is not about trading anymore.
- 21:16It is about expanding to really choose.
