- 0:00Informed dissent, the intersection of healthcare and politics
- 0:03with Dr.
- 0:05Jeff Barkey, board certified primary care physician.
- 0:09And Dr.
- 0:10Mark McDonald, board certified child adolescent and adult
- 0:12psychiatrist.
- 0:15Welcome to Informed Descent.
- 0:18Great to be with you.
- 0:20This is Dr.
- 0:21Jeff Barkey, America's real doctor.
- 0:24I've got some exciting updates for you.
- 0:27I am recording solo.
- 0:29I know you've been used to hearing my
- 0:30co-host, Dr.
- 0:32Mark McDonald.
- 0:33However, I am now on my own, and
- 0:36I'm so proud of the work that Mark
- 0:38and I have done.
- 0:41Mark is heading in a bit of a
- 0:42different direction.
- 0:44He's doing a lot of traveling, a lot
- 0:46of telehealth work, forensic work that has always
- 0:48been his passion.
- 0:51And as a result, oh, I will bring
- 0:52him in as a guest.
- 0:55But I am now hosting this show on
- 0:56my own.
- 0:58Boy, I hope this will be fun for
- 0:59you.
- 1:00I know it's going to be really fun
- 1:01for me.
- 1:02So a few things I want to talk
- 1:03to you about.
- 1:05First of all, I'm changing the strategy first
- 1:08of all to instead of being the you
- 1:11know, it's still informed dissent.
- 1:14So I'm excited about that.
- 1:16We created this name.
- 1:18Uh, this was actually originally Mark's idea, and
- 1:20I love the name informed descent.
- 1:22It represents a lot of things that I
- 1:24stand for.
- 1:25Uh, but the intersection of health care and
- 1:28politics, I'm updating to be the intersection of
- 1:31faith, family, freedom, and health.
- 1:35Faith, family, freedom, and health.
- 1:37Those are going to be the topics that
- 1:39I'm going to focus in on.
- 1:41Uh, I'm not going to really talk too
- 1:45much about politics, although, of course, commonly what
- 1:48we talk about in health intersects with politics.
- 1:52So I've got a whole range of topics.
- 1:54I've got some exciting guests that I'm going
- 1:56to bring onto the show.
- 1:58You'll, of course, hear from me.
- 2:00You will occasionally hear from Mark.
- 2:03Uh, and we will just have so much
- 2:06fun uh doing what we do.
- 2:09So here we go.
- 2:11This is literally my first show uh being
- 2:14a solo host of informed dissent.
- 2:16Um, we are, of course, on the America
- 2:19Out Loud Network, and I'm proud to be
- 2:21part of that.
- 2:24As you may know, wherever you're listening to
- 2:26it, you may be listening to it on
- 2:28iHeartRadio.
- 2:30We broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays on iHeartRadio.
- 2:33And then on Mondays, this recording is released
- 2:36as a podcast.
- 2:38Of course, as a podcast, you can listen
- 2:41to it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, uh, directly
- 2:45through the America Out Loud uh website.
- 2:48So you get to choose.
- 2:50I love listening to podcasts.
- 2:52Um, often on just my iPhone has a
- 2:54podcast app that comes with it.
- 2:57And that's often where I listen to the
- 2:59podcasts.
- 3:01And so I'm super excited to be um
- 3:03doing really what I love doing, and that
- 3:06is talking to you about health and faith
- 3:09and family, all the things that are really
- 3:11important to me.
- 3:15You can contact me, by the way.
- 3:17If you're listening to the podcast and it's
- 3:19Apple or Spotify or what have you, you
- 3:21can scroll down and you can comment on
- 3:23it.
- 3:25Um, I appreciate you commenting on it.
- 3:28You can review the podcast.
- 3:29And most importantly, I want you to share
- 3:30this.
- 3:31If you enjoy listening to it, as I
- 3:33know many of you do, uh, click the
- 3:35button in the upper right-hand corner where it
- 3:37says share podcast or share link and send
- 3:39it to friends and family.
- 3:41In addition, please do follow me on social
- 3:43media.
- 3:45I broadcast almost daily on social media.
- 3:48I have what I call a morning message,
- 3:51and I've been doing this now for a
- 3:53couple years, Monday through Friday, sometimes on Saturday.
- 3:56Morning message on Instagram.
- 3:59My Instagram handle is RX4 Liberty, RX4.
- 4:03The four is spelled F O R R
- 4:05X4 Liberty.
- 4:07I'm also on X.
- 4:09I'm on what else am I on?
- 4:12I'm on Facebook.
- 4:14I have a uh social media team that
- 4:16helps me because I'm not smart enough to
- 4:18do all this myself.
- 4:20And my goal here really is to reach
- 4:23as many people as I can to share
- 4:26with you holistic health ideas, to share with
- 4:28you ideas that I have about faith, family,
- 4:31freedom, and health.
- 4:34Uh, and to help you be better at
- 4:36taking care of yourself.
- 4:38I want you to be super healthy.
- 4:41And I've come around to this idea, and
- 4:44you may have seen the evolution of me
- 4:46and what I stand for and what I'm
- 4:49doing in my life, but I've come around
- 4:52to this idea that I want people to
- 4:55be healthy, not for the sake of health.
- 4:59Oh, yes, I want you to be healthy.
- 5:00It's no fun being unhealthy, it's no fun
- 5:02being sick.
- 5:03It's a misery being in the hospital.
- 5:05And especially as we get older in life.
- 5:08Uh, my mom is 91.
- 5:10Uh, I sometimes feature her on my social
- 5:12media, put pictures of her up.
- 5:14I'm so blessed and lucky for her to
- 5:16be in my life and to be healthy.
- 5:18She plays tennis a couple days a week.
- 5:20I see and travel with her often.
- 5:22I'm doing that as much as I can,
- 5:24but I want you to be healthy so
- 5:26ultimately you can serve whatever God's purpose is
- 5:28in your life.
- 5:30That's really my mission here as I as
- 5:33I move through my own life, uh, my
- 5:36own evolution and my walk in faith, uh,
- 5:40which has been relatively new for me.
- 5:43I thought I'd share a little bit too
- 5:46about how I got started with this podcasting
- 5:48and being on social media, of being on
- 5:50Instagram, Facebook, and the like.
- 5:52And this really started even right around the
- 5:54time of COVID.
- 5:56Boy, who doesn't remember COVID?
- 5:58It's, you know, what we're in 2026.
- 6:01COVID was what, like 2020, beginning of 2020.
- 6:06And um this started really, I was kind
- 6:08of a contrarian during COVID, and I spoke
- 6:11out a lot.
- 6:14I attended rallies.
- 6:16Um, and I started doing a Facebook live.
- 6:20I'd never really done these kind of things
- 6:21before.
- 6:22I'd set my computer up on my kitchen
- 6:24counter.
- 6:25I'd go to Facebook, I'd hit the Facebook
- 6:28Live button, and I would time it.
- 6:30Remember when Tucker Carlson was on Fox News,
- 6:32I think he was on at five o'clock.
- 6:34So I had a time it when Tucker
- 6:36would get off Fox News, I'd hit Facebook
- 6:37Live.
- 6:39I'd just start talking about the latest COVID
- 6:42news, the body counts, the shenanigans of Anthony
- 6:46Fauci, all the things that were going on.
- 6:49And then I started bringing guests on to
- 6:51Facebook Live.
- 6:54And I would interview people, doctors and politicians
- 6:57and various folks in the health freedom movement.
- 7:00Of movement.
- 7:00It was kind of fun.
- 7:00It was kind of fun.
- 7:02Then around April of I think it was
- 7:02Then around April of I think it was
- 7:032020.
- 7:032020.
- 7:05I get confused sometimes with dates, but I
- 7:05I get confused sometimes with dates, but I
- 7:07think it was around April 2020.
- 7:07think it was around April 2020.
- 7:10I was invited to go to Riverside to
- 7:10I was invited to go to Riverside to
- 7:13speak at a rally.
- 7:13speak at a rally.
- 7:17There was a rally in Riverside because the
- 7:17There's a rally in Riverside because the county
- 7:19board of supervisors in Riverside County was about
- 7:19county board of supervisors in Riverside County was
- 7:22to hold a meeting to make a decision
- 7:22about to hold a meeting to make a
- 7:24whether or not they should open up the
- 7:24decision whether or not they should open up
- 7:26county.
- 7:27the county.
- 7:29Remember, everything was closed.
- 7:31So I was invited, and my initial reaction
- 7:33to the person who invited me, her name
- 7:35was Desiree, was to say, no, I didn't
- 7:37want to go to Riverside.
- 7:39I live in coastal Orange County.
- 7:41And normally to hop on the 55 freeway
- 7:44and ultimately the 91 and get to Riverside.
- 7:48If and you know what I mean if
- 7:49you're from Southern California, it's misery.
- 7:51It normally would take, I don't know, during
- 7:53rush hour in the morning.
- 7:55It takes like an hour and a half
- 7:57to get out to Riverside.
- 7:58And it was a work day, and I
- 7:59didn't want to go.
- 8:01Well, then I remembered Desiree, the organizer of
- 8:03this rally, if you will.
- 8:05She was often in Orange County, supporting many
- 8:07of the things that I did.
- 8:09And so I decided to go ahead out
- 8:12to Riverside to speak at this rally before
- 8:15the Riverside County Board of Supervisors was meeting.
- 8:18And by the way, at this rally, I
- 8:20don't remember all the speakers, but one of
- 8:23them was Pastor Tim Thompson, and he's from
- 8:25Murietta, California.
- 8:27He runs a church called uh, is it?
- 8:30I think it's 412, 411, 412, church 412.
- 8:34Anyways, I got to meet Tim for the
- 8:35first time.
- 8:36He has since become a friend.
- 8:37I've gone out to his church.
- 8:38I've spoken many times.
- 8:40I've supported many of his causes, et cetera.
- 8:42So, anyways, I'm at this rally out in
- 8:45Riverside, a mass to speak.
- 8:48Uh, God has given me a gift and
- 8:50a blessing uh to be comfortable speaking in
- 8:52public.
- 8:55I know this is a common fear uh
- 8:57amongst many people.
- 8:59Uh, this is I am nothing special to
- 9:00be able to do this.
- 9:02It literally is not me.
- 9:04It's a it's I I believe this, honestly.
- 9:06I believe it's a gift from God uh
- 9:08that I'm able to do this without fear
- 9:10or concern uh of doing this.
- 9:12So I got up there and spoke.
- 9:14And I didn't think I said anything particularly
- 9:16remarkable.
- 9:18Um, and when I concluded, I spoke for
- 9:20about six minutes, maybe seven.
- 9:22Um, I wanted to send the speech to
- 9:24my kids.
- 9:26Uh, my daughter lives in Wisconsin.
- 9:28My son at the time was working in
- 9:30politics.
- 9:31He lived in DC.
- 9:32And I don't know about you guys if
- 9:35you have kids, but we normally would communicate
- 9:37by text message and so forth.
- 9:39And I tried to send the short clip
- 9:41of my video through text message, and I
- 9:44got a message, uh, video too long.
- 9:46I tried to email them the video, video
- 9:48too long.
- 9:49Then Desiree came up and said, Why don't
- 9:51you just post it on Facebook and they
- 9:52can watch it there?
- 9:54Well, I guess Facebook has different bandwidths, and
- 9:56the video doesn't have to be particularly high
- 9:57quality.
- 10:00So I hit the Facebook post thing with
- 10:02my video, and within a couple minutes, it
- 10:05was posted on Facebook.
- 10:08Well, it didn't take long before I was
- 10:11literally getting communications from around the world.
- 10:14Physicians were communicating with me.
- 10:17Uh, citizens were communicating with me, politicians were
- 10:19communicating with me.
- 10:22And I didn't really understand because I didn't
- 10:24think what I said was too remarkable.
- 10:26And then I went back and I listened
- 10:28to it.
- 10:29I always carry a copy of the Constitution.
- 10:32You know, one of those skinny little books
- 10:34that has the declaration of independence and the
- 10:36constitution in it.
- 10:38I always carry one of those around in
- 10:39my coat pocket.
- 10:41I was in Scrubs and I had a
- 10:42white coat on.
- 10:43You know, I had to look like a
- 10:45doctor when I got up there and spoke.
- 10:46And I pulled out this Hillsdale College uh
- 10:49Constitution, and I said, and this wasn't my
- 10:52line, I can't remember where I heard it.
- 10:55It may have been like from Rush Limbaugh
- 10:57or somebody like that.
- 10:58I don't actually recall, but I said, this
- 11:00document was never designed to restrict we the
- 11:02people.
- 11:04This document was designed to restrict the government.
- 11:06I guess that really resonated with a lot
- 11:08of people.
- 11:10Um, so suddenly, this guy who just randomly
- 11:12speaks out, was doing Facebook lives, now was
- 11:15being communicated with with thousands and thousands of
- 11:18people around the world and around the country,
- 11:20of course.
- 11:23Um, shortly after that, I was introduced by
- 11:25a mutual friend uh to somebody who you
- 11:27all know.
- 11:29You certainly know her name if you don't
- 11:31know her personally, and that was Dr.
- 11:33Simone Gold.
- 11:34I spent a lot of time on the
- 11:37phone and meeting with Simone, and she had
- 11:39this idea of creating an organization of physicians
- 11:41called America's uh frontline doctors.
- 11:44So she and I decided it was her,
- 11:47it was her initiative, but I was I
- 11:49was literally one of the first founding doctors
- 11:52of this organization, America's frontline doctors.
- 11:54There was a whole group of us, and
- 11:56Simone had this idea that we would hold
- 11:59like a medical conference in Washington, DC, and
- 12:01then a press conference.
- 12:03The medical conference was each of the doctors,
- 12:05I think there was maybe eight or 10
- 12:08of us that went, would speak for 15,
- 12:1020 minutes to the other doctors and the
- 12:13other audience that would be there about whatever
- 12:15area of specialty with that we had, and
- 12:17it was all related to COVID.
- 12:20So I had founded a charter school in
- 12:22the city of Orange here in Southern California
- 12:24called Orange County Classical Academy.
- 12:27I was also uh previously on the school
- 12:30board, Los Alamitos Unified School District, an elected
- 12:32school board member for about 12 years.
- 12:35So my area of speaking was, and Simone
- 12:37asked me to do this, talk about COVID
- 12:39and children and schools.
- 12:42So I did.
- 12:43So following the kind of medical conference presentation,
- 12:46lasted about a half a day.
- 12:49She organized us to go to the steps
- 12:52of the Supreme Court to hold a formal
- 12:54press conference.
- 12:57So we had microphones and cameras, but this
- 13:00press conference was different than most in that
- 13:02we didn't invite invite traditional press there because
- 13:05we knew they hated us.
- 13:08We invited alternative press, social media influencers, Breitbart
- 13:10was there.
- 13:13Um, and we broadcast live on all the
- 13:15social media outlets, Twitter at the time, it
- 13:18wasn't X yet, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and so
- 13:20forth.
- 13:23And so each of us spoke for each
- 13:25doctor, same doctors that gave this uh medical
- 13:28conference, if you will, spoke for about two
- 13:30minutes.
- 13:32So Simone said limit it to two minutes.
- 13:36Um, summarize what you talked in the medical
- 13:38conference, and I did, and everybody else did.
- 13:41Mark, Mark McDonald, uh, you probably remember Stella
- 13:44Emmanuel.
- 13:47Uh, she's from Cameroon.
- 13:49Um, Brian Tyson, physician out of El Centro,
- 13:53California, that's kind of inland of San Diego.
- 13:57Uh, I'm trying to remember who else was
- 13:58there.
- 13:59I I can't remember.
- 14:00I can't remember, I could look it up.
- 14:00I could look it up.
- 14:01But, anyways, so we spoke, and this was
- 14:01But anyways, so we spoke, and this was
- 14:04really the start of the uh medical banning
- 14:04really the start of the uh medical banning
- 14:08movement, the censor, uh the censoring of medical
- 14:08movement, the censor us the censoring of medical
- 14:12physicians because within a few minutes, this press
- 14:12physicians because within a few minutes, this press
- 14:15conference was friggin' going viral.
- 14:15conference was friggin' going viral.
- 14:20Millions of people were watching it.
- 14:20Millions of people were watching it.
- 14:22And then all of a sudden, we started
- 14:22And then all of a sudden, we started
- 14:23being censored.
- 14:23being censored.
- 14:25Meta, Meta, of course, is the organization that
- 14:25Meta, Meta, of course, is the organization that
- 14:27owns Facebook and Instagram.
- 14:28owns Facebook and Instagram, Twitter at the time.
- 14:32What's what was that guy's name that owned
- 14:33Twitter?
- 14:34Remember, he testified before Elon Musk bought Twitter,
- 14:37testified before Congress about censoring and so forth.
- 14:41Can't remember his name, really long hair, whatever.
- 14:44So we started getting banned.
- 14:48YouTube shut us down, Twitter shut us down,
- 14:49Meta shut us down, et cetera.
- 14:51This was the beginning of the cancel culture,
- 14:54especially as it related to uh COVID.
- 14:57So needless to say, all of a sudden,
- 15:01all these doctors that were now America's frontline
- 15:04doctors uh became known and started being censored.
- 15:08And uh, you know, I was criticized.
- 15:11The medical board was called.
- 15:12I was threatened to be shut down and
- 15:14so forth.
- 15:16And uh, you know, I listen, I didn't
- 15:18want to be some spokesperson on behalf of
- 15:20medical freedom.
- 15:23I never wanted to be some sort of
- 15:25social media influencer.
- 15:26It was not my intent.
- 15:28I never wanted to be some sort of
- 15:29celebrity physician.
- 15:31No, no, no.
- 15:32I was simply standing up for what I
- 15:35believed was right, and most importantly, speaking out
- 15:37for what I believe was wrong.
- 15:40And what the government did during COVID was
- 15:42absolutely wrong.
- 15:44Never before have we seen this in our
- 15:47country, where mom and pop organizations were forced
- 15:50to be closed by the government, where churches
- 15:53were forced to be closed by the government.
- 15:56This has never happened before.
- 15:59Um, where you know, big box stores like
- 16:01Costco's and and uh Walmart and so forth
- 16:04were allowed to be open, where liquor stores
- 16:07were allowed to be open.
- 16:10Uh, maybe that was a good idea.
- 16:11I don't know.
- 16:12Uh, where marijuana dispensaries were allowed to be
- 16:14open.
- 16:16And in healthcare, you have to remember the
- 16:18healthcare system was shut down, meaning that you
- 16:20could not get elective or routine things, couldn't
- 16:22go get your mammogram.
- 16:25You know, maybe that was a good thing.
- 16:26We can talk more about that about mammograms
- 16:28and should you get mammograms and what about
- 16:31the radiation and so forth and all and
- 16:33all are there alternatives?
- 16:35But nonetheless, you couldn't go in and get
- 16:37an echocardiogram if you had congestive heart failure.
- 16:40You couldn't go get elective surgery if you
- 16:42were planning to do that.
- 16:44Uh, you couldn't go into your doctor's office
- 16:45and get routine care.
- 16:48This was really weird.
- 16:49So, for the first time, we told sick
- 16:51people not to go to the hospital.
- 16:53We told sick people not to go to
- 16:54the doctor.
- 16:56We told them the shelter in place and
- 16:57stay away.
- 16:58Don't go to the hospital unless you were
- 17:00so sick that you were about to die.
- 17:02Then go to the hospital and we would
- 17:04expedite that death by giving you remdesivir.
- 17:07So that was really how I started this
- 17:10adventure of becoming ultimately here I am, a
- 17:13podcaster now on the America Out Loud Network.
- 17:16Very, very proud to be affiliated with that.
- 17:19We get a lot of views, a lot
- 17:22of downloads and so forth, and super excited
- 17:24to bring some exciting guests on the program
- 17:27as we move forward.
- 17:30Again, remember, please follow me.
- 17:32Instagram, Rx for Liberty, um, Rx4 Liberty is
- 17:34my website.
- 17:36I also created a new website called America's
- 17:39Real Doctor dot US.
- 17:41And by the way, you know, some people
- 17:43have reached out, uh, the haters on social
- 17:44media.
- 17:46How arrogant of you to call yourself America's
- 17:48real doctor, believe me.
- 17:51I'm not America's real doctor in the sense
- 17:53of somehow other doctors are fake.
- 17:55But what I mean by that is I
- 17:58want to hearken back to a time a
- 18:01generation ago where physicians were well respected.
- 18:04They were trusted members of the community, where
- 18:06they were looked at as being wise people
- 18:09to give advice, not just on health care,
- 18:11but on life.
- 18:13Things have changed so much.
- 18:15Where we would routinely make house calls, where
- 18:18we looked out for the best interest of
- 18:20the patient, not the best interest of the
- 18:23healthcare organization that was paying our check, where
- 18:25the vast majority of physicians were in private
- 18:28practice.
- 18:30Nowadays, the vast majority of physicians work for
- 18:33big healthcare organizations where there is a clear
- 18:36conflict of interest, meaning you go to a
- 18:39doctor, you're not paying them.
- 18:42The healthcare organization is paying them.
- 18:45So they're going to refer accordingly, they're going
- 18:47to prescribe accordingly.
- 18:49They're going to treat you as if you
- 18:51are nothing more than a commodity, not a
- 18:54precious consumer where they should treat you with
- 18:57great respect.
- 19:00We need to get back to that.
- 19:02That's what I mean by America's real doctor.
- 19:06I want people to look back to what
- 19:09medicine used to be a generation ago, where
- 19:12we really cared for patients, where we made
- 19:15every effort to get it root cause of
- 19:18disease, not just take out a prescription pad
- 19:21and write them some pharma product.
- 19:24That's what I want to get back to.
- 19:26That's what I mean when I say words
- 19:28like, I'm Dr.
- 19:30Jeff Barkey, America's real doctor.
- 19:33I want people to listen to what I'm
- 19:34doing.
- 19:35You don't have to agree with everything.
- 19:37I'm not right on everything.
- 19:39And I'm happy to be uh educated about
- 19:42things that I don't know about.
- 19:44I'm always wanting to learn.
- 19:46I'm always learning.
- 19:48I'm watching uh health influencers on social media.
- 19:52I'm going to conferences, I'm reading.
- 19:55I'm learning about functional health and functional lab
- 19:56tests.
- 19:59I'm trying to do everything I can to
- 20:01upgrade my knowledge, literally, upgrade my knowledge to
- 20:04everything that was wrong about my medical school
- 20:07training.
- 20:10I was taught so many things that just
- 20:13aren't so in medical school, like vaccines are
- 20:17safe and effective, and there's no relationship between
- 20:20vaccines and chronic illness or Alzheimer's, not Alzheimer's,
- 20:23or autism, maybe Alzheimer's too.
- 20:27That's what I was taught.
- 20:28I was taught that cholesterol causes cardiovascular disease,
- 20:32and eating saturated fat raises cholesterol.
- 20:35We should not eat saturated fat.
- 20:37And people with high cholesterol should be put
- 20:39on drugs to lower their cholesterol.
- 20:42That's standard traditional pharma-based care now in most
- 20:44medical schools.
- 20:48Most medical schools have such incredible pharma influence.
- 20:53Medical school buildings are named after big pharma
- 20:54companies.
- 20:56Pharma sponsors medical schools to do research.
- 21:00There isn't a day that goes by where
- 21:00There isn't a day that goes by where

- 21:21Oh, yes, there'll be an occasional home health

- 21:22care uh person.
- 21:24There'll be pharmacies that will all let to
- 21:24There'll be pharmacies that will all let to
- 21:26come in.
- 21:26come in.
- 21:29There
- 21:29There will be like durable medical equipment companies.
- 21:33We have home health that will come in
- 21:34and visit.
- 21:36Testing ColaGuard folks have come in to share
- 21:38with what they've got going.
- 21:41There's newer cancer detection companies that are out
- 21:43there.
- 21:45Maybe you've heard of them, the gallery test.
- 21:48Uh, there's a local outfit that does uh
- 21:50full body MRI called pre-nuvo.
- 21:53They came in to educate us.
- 21:55So those kind of things are fair game.
- 21:57But the pharmaceutical companies that want me to
- 22:00prescribe their drugs, no, they're not welcome here.
- 22:03Occasionally if they slip through the cracks, uh,
- 22:04I usually won't even go in and talk
- 22:06to them.
- 22:08I won't see them.
- 22:09And if I do, uh, they probably are
- 22:10sorry that I came in to discuss with
- 22:11them.
- 22:13Now I'm not blaming the individual reps.
- 22:15They're just doing their job, doing the best
- 22:17that they can.
- 22:18It's not their fault that the companies for
- 22:21which they work are corrupt and often very
- 22:23destructive.
- 22:25And by the way, I'm not anti-pharma.
- 22:28We need some drugs.
- 22:29Occasionally we need antibiotics when somebody gets really
- 22:30sick.
- 22:32We need good orthopedic surgeons to put Humpty
- 22:34Dumpty back together again.
- 22:36You know, I've had surgery, I had hernia
- 22:39surgery a couple of years ago, found a
- 22:42great uh general surgeon that is very like-minded.
- 22:45If you need one, let me know.
- 22:47Um, you know, so we need specialists and
- 22:49surgeons and various doctors, and sure, we need
- 22:51some drugs once in a while, but we've
- 22:54gone so overboard in this disease model of
- 22:56medicine.
- 22:59Meaning uh, somebody comes in with a symptom
- 23:00or a disease.
- 23:02First instinct is to find a proper drug
- 23:05or treatment uh to treat that illness.
- 23:07We've all seen it.
- 23:09The uh NBA finals are on.
- 23:12Baseball is starting up, hockey playoffs.
- 23:15It's a great time for sports.
- 23:16There isn't a sporting event that you watch
- 23:18on TV where there isn't just a whole
- 23:21handful of pharmaceutical ads.
- 23:23And it's really interesting because some of these
- 23:25drugs I've never even heard of.
- 23:27These diseases that they highlight are often very
- 23:29rare diseases.
- 23:32So you wonder who are they trying to
- 23:33influence?
- 23:35Do you think there are, you know, uh
- 23:37basketball watching people uh that are really interested
- 23:40in learning about sky Rizzy for eczema or
- 23:42whatever the drug is, and they're gonna therefore
- 23:44now go to their doctor and ask for
- 23:46the drug?
- 23:49I actually learned the reason why pharma advertises
- 23:51so heavily on these networks, and it's not
- 23:53what you think.
- 23:56It's actually not to influence the consumer.
- 24:01It's not to influence the consumer.
- 24:04You know, not like the burger ads and
- 24:06the food ads where they make all this
- 24:08poisonous food look so healthy, and you can't
- 24:10wait to run out and get a you
- 24:12know, burger or chicken or whatever else is
- 24:14being advertised.
- 24:17Pharma advertises not to influence the consumer, but
- 24:20to influence the news desk.
- 24:24Yep, that's right.
- 24:26They pay enormous amounts of money to these
- 24:27networks.
- 24:29So the news desks are kinder and less
- 24:32critical of them.
- 24:36Do you think these networks are going to
- 24:38bite the hand that feeds them?
- 24:40And by the way, it's the same with
- 24:41medical journals.
- 24:43You pick your favorite journal, New England Journal
- 24:46of Medicine, so prestigious, the Lancet out of
- 24:49Great Britain, Journal of the American Medical Association,
- 24:51JAMA, and on and on and on, heavily
- 24:54funded by pharma.
- 24:58Do you think these journals are going to
- 25:01write critical articles about pharma if they're being
- 25:05heavily subsidized by these pharmaceutical companies?
- 25:09Do you think politicians are going to vote
- 25:12against pharma when their campaigns are being supported
- 25:16and propped up by pharmaceutical companies?
- 25:20That is the case.
- 25:39Pharma by far is the largest.
- 25:42There are more pharma lobbyists than there are
- 25:45legislators in Congress.
- 25:49Think about that.
- 25:51Think about that.
- 25:52I'm going to take a short break.
- 25:55And then when I come back, I've got
- 25:58a whole bunch of topics I want to
- 26:02talk to you about, including hontavirus, peptides, um,
- 26:06cholesterol and statins, blood pressure, and the like.

- 30:07America Outloud Doc News is that place to
- 30:10awaken your heart, soul, and mind to the
- 30:13all about trouble.
- 30:19Okay.
- 30:20We are back.
- 30:21I'm Dr.
- 30:22Jeff Barkey, America's real doctor on the America
- 30:25Out Loud Network.
- 30:28So excited to be here.
- 30:30Flying solo.
- 30:32Awesome.
- 30:33Okay, let's get busy.
- 30:35Uh in the news of late is Hontavirus.
- 30:39We heard about a cruise ship where three
- 30:42people apparently died, and a bunch of people
- 30:44were exposed to this Hontavirus.
- 30:46Hontavirus is an RNA virus.
- 30:49Now, before I go any further, let's remember
- 30:51that COVID is an RNA virus.
- 30:54And so is there a similarity?
- 30:57Oh, you bet there is.
- 31:07Um, hontavirus vaccine.
- 31:10You know, don't hold your breath.
- 31:12Here it comes.
- 31:13I hope we learned our lesson.
- 31:15So hantavirus generally is contracted by coming into
- 31:19contact with rodent poop.
- 31:24Yep, I said it.
- 31:25Rodent poop.
- 31:28It is rarely spread, human to human.
- 31:33To the extent that this virus now can
- 31:36be spread, human to human, could only mean
- 31:39that some lab somewhere has been manipulating this
- 31:42virus, maybe through gain of function research, just
- 31:46like we saw in the Wuhan Virology lab
- 31:49during COVID.
- 31:53So here's what you should know about hontavirus.
- 31:55It's been around since the beginning of time.
- 31:58There's several thousand cases of Hontavirus every year.
- 32:02If you're treated early, we absolutely can treat
- 32:06this respiratory illness from this RNA virus.
- 32:11Now, similar to COVID, I would expect, I
- 32:13don't know this.
- 32:16I don't know that there's been any testing,
- 32:19but I believe we can treat this hontavirus
- 32:22the same way we treated COVID with alternative
- 32:25medication.
- 32:29We can use the Swiss Army knife of
- 32:34repurpose medication, such as ivermectin, or even hydroxychloroquine.
- 32:39So you should not panic about hontavirus.
- 32:43You should turn the television off.
- 32:47Remember that movie Glenn Gary, Glenn Ross.
- 32:49Put the coffee down.
- 32:51That's a great scene.
- 32:52I need to watch that again.
- 32:53It's like classic with Alec Baldwin.
- 32:56If you haven't seen it, look it up.
- 32:58Google or go to YouTube.
- 32:59Put the coffee down, Alec Baldwin.
- 33:01It's a great scene.
- 33:02Anyways, uh, but I uh went off track
- 33:04here.
- 33:05So I don't think hontavirus is anything to
- 33:07worry about.
- 33:08I think we need to remember what the
- 33:10government and the World Health Organization tried to
- 33:12do to us during COVID.
- 33:14The World Health Organization was complicit in what
- 33:16went on in China.
- 33:19They were high-fiving China for their reaction to
- 33:22uh the COVID virus.
- 33:25They continued to claim that the COVID virus
- 33:27is was a result of the Wuhan wet
- 33:30market, so-called bats that uh were infected with
- 33:33this and then transmitted it.
- 33:36Never mind that the Wuhan wet market didn't
- 33:38actually serve bats, but never, but forget about
- 33:40that.
- 33:42So I don't want any of us to
- 33:44be fooled again that somehow this is something
- 33:46we should be worried about.
- 33:50And you know, they're gonna try to do
- 33:51it again.
- 33:52Social distancing, wearing masks, the RNA virus is
- 33:55so teeny tiny, masks have no role to
- 33:58play to prevent infection, neither neither did it
- 34:01for the COVID virus.
- 34:04Wearing a mask for COVID virus or any
- 34:07other RNA virus is like trying to stop
- 34:10a mosquito with a chain link fence.
- 34:12That's the size differential.
- 34:15It's just ridiculous.
- 34:17Remember when we sat on airplanes with masks
- 34:19on.
- 34:26Um forbid people from sitting in the middle
- 34:27seats.
- 34:29Well, it's actually kind of cool.
- 34:31Who wants to sit in the middle seats
- 34:32anyways?
- 34:33But as if somehow that would protect people.
- 34:35It was sort of like, you know, I
- 34:38grew up in an error when we allowed
- 34:40smoking on airplanes, and there'd be a smoking
- 34:42section and a non-smoking section.
- 34:45Sometimes you'd be in a smoking section just
- 34:46a couple rows away.
- 34:48You'd be in a non smoking section, just
- 34:51a couple rows away from the smoking section.
- 34:53What a friggin' joke that we did stuff
- 34:55like that.
- 34:56There's still airplanes, older airplanes that have ashtrays
- 34:58and the little signs that say no smoking
- 35:00Trays and the little signs that say no
- 35:01and so forth.
- 35:01smoking and so forth.
- 35:03It's crazy.
- 35:03It's crazy.
- 35:04But masks play no role in protecting you
- 35:04But masks play no role in protecting you
- 35:06against a um RNA virus.
- 35:06against a um RNA virus.
- 35:08And so to the extent that you see
- 35:08And so, to the extent that you see
- 35:11on TV, World Health Organization, uh leaders, executives,
- 35:11on TV, World Health Organization, um uh leaders,
- 35:14whatever, you know, suggesting that we should socially
- 35:14executives, whatever, you know, suggesting that we should
- 35:16distance, that we should stay inside, that we
- 35:17socially distance, that we should stay inside, that
- 35:19should wear masks.
- 35:20we should wear masks, ignore all that.
- 35:22Ignore all that.
- 35:23Ignore all that.
- 35:23Ignore all that.
- 35:24We allowed this to happen during COVID.
- 35:24We allowed this to happen during COVID.
- 35:26We literally allowed it to happen.
- 35:26We literally allowed it to happen.
- 35:28Not enough of us stood up.
- 35:28Not enough of us stood up and said,
- 35:30oh, hell no, I'm not going to shut
- 35:31down my business.
- 35:33No, I'm not going to socially distance.
- 35:35I'm not going to wear masks on airplanes.
- 35:37Not enough of us said no.
- 35:39And so the government was able to uh
- 35:42to impose these restrictions on us.
- 35:45We're past that, but do we have a
- 35:47memory of what happened?
- 35:49And do is our memory sharp enough where
- 35:51we will never ever allow this to happen
- 35:53again.
- 35:56I certainly hope so.
- 35:58I certainly hope so, but we'll see.
- 36:00We'll see.
- 36:00We just don't know.
- 36:02Um, hope you're all doing well.
- 36:04Um, I want you to reach out and
- 36:06communicate with me as best you can.
- 36:09Um, I love hearing from you.
- 36:11Either leave me comments, go on social media,

- 36:17can email me and contact me.

- 36:21I'm looking for sponsors of my uh now
- 36:23solo hosted podcast, informed dissent.
- 36:27Would love to have you.
- 36:28Um, and I am so excited to bring
- 36:30to you a bunch of great guests that
- 36:33I have lined up.
- 36:35Mark and I had some cool guests uh
- 36:37going back over the few years that we've
- 36:39hosted this, and I look forward to bringing
- 36:41you more guests.
- 36:44Okay, I'm gonna shift topics here, and I
- 36:46want to talk a little bit about blood
- 36:48pressure.
- 36:51I've had so many questions about blood pressure,
- 36:53and um I decided to do something a
- 36:54little bit crazy, and I'm really excited about
- 36:56it.
- 36:59So let's talk a little bit about blood
- 37:00pressure.
- 37:01First of all, it's one of the most
- 37:03common diagnoses in the United States.
- 37:05It's estimated that over half the adult population
- 37:08has high blood pressure, and most of them
- 37:11don't even know that they have it.
- 37:14There's a reason why blood pressure elevation, also
- 37:16known as hypertension, is called the silent killer,
- 37:19because most people feel pretty good, even when
- 37:21their blood pressure is elevated, they don't even
- 37:24know that it's elevated.
- 37:26And unless they're going to the doctor and
- 37:28having it measured, you know, who would even
- 37:30know?
- 37:32So that shuffling you here is me grabbing
- 37:38a bottle.
- 37:44So here's my approach to blood pressure.
- 37:47First of all, I think most, not all,
- 37:49but most people that have elevated blood pressure
- 37:51do not need drugs to treat the blood
- 37:53pressure.
- 37:55What they need is a functional medicine approach
- 37:57with a physician that knows what they're doing,
- 38:00that knows how to look for the root
- 38:02cause of elevated blood pressure.
- 38:05It is not normal to have elevated blood
- 38:06pressure.
- 38:08Elevated blood pressure is not a disease.
- 38:11Elevated blood pressure is a symptom.
- 38:13It's a symptom of something else.
- 38:17Now, we're not always able to find this
- 38:19something else, but we damn well sure should
- 38:21make an effort to do so.
- 38:24That is our obligation as a physician when
- 38:26you come and see me or any doctor,
- 38:28not just to write a prescription.
- 38:31The most commonly prescribed uh hypertension medication in
- 38:36the United States is a product called lysinapril.
- 38:40It's known as an ACE inhibitor, and they're
- 38:42all kinds of side effects potentially of this
- 38:44drug.
- 38:46Hang on, if you're on this drug, please
- 38:47don't stop.
- 38:49But please do go to your doctor, try
- 38:51to get a functional medicine approach to lowering
- 38:53your blood pressure so you can eventually get
- 38:55off this medication.
- 38:58But I did an informed consent on this.
- 39:01And by the way, almost every Friday, I
- 39:04do informed consent Friday on social media, and
- 39:07it is designed to educate people about a
- 39:10vaccine, about a drug, uh, or something of
- 39:14that sort, so you can learn about it
- 39:17and get information that your own doctor is
- 39:20not giving you.
- 39:23So lysinepril made by AstraZeneca, at least the
- 39:26branded name, zestral.
- 39:29There's a black box warning right on the
- 39:31front of the right on the front of
- 39:32the package insert.
- 39:34The package insert is an FDA, food and
- 39:37drug administration approved document.
- 39:40It's made in conjunction with the pharma company.
- 39:43It is a requirement.
- 39:45And there are elements of the package insert
- 39:47that are the same package insert to package
- 39:50insert, same sections.
- 39:53A black box warning is a warning that
- 39:56the FDA puts on a package insert.
- 39:59It is the highest level of warning prior
- 40:01to a drug or vaccine being removed from
- 40:03the market.
- 40:08And zestril, lysinabril, um generic name lysinabril, brand
- 40:12name zestral, has such a warning.
- 40:16Well, what does it say?
- 40:18Well, here's what it says, the black box
- 40:19warning.
- 40:21It says, and I'm I'm literally reading it
- 40:23right now.
- 40:24I've got the black box uh package insert
- 40:26warning in my hand.
- 40:28Here's what it says.
- 40:30Quote when pregnancy is detected, discontinue zestril as
- 40:34soon as possible.
- 40:38It is pregnancy category D, D like dog,
- 40:40which means there is a high likelihood of
- 40:43fetal toxicity if you take this drug during
- 40:45pregnancy.
- 40:48Now, listen, I don't I, of course, if
- 40:50you're pregnant, you should never take this drug,
- 40:53but it bodes the question.
- 40:55Why is it okay to take this drug
- 40:57if you're not pregnant and not okay to
- 40:59take it if you are pregnant?
- 41:01If this thing has some potentially significant problems
- 41:04during pregnancy, do I really want to be
- 41:07on it even if I'm not pregnant?
- 41:11Huh?
- 41:12I don't know.
- 41:13That's a reasonable question to ask.
- 41:15Then there's a whole list of potential side
- 41:18effects under section five.
- 41:21Every section five of a practice of a
- 41:23package insert has the same kind of narrative
- 41:25to it.
- 41:27And there are things like angioedema and anaphylactic
- 41:30reactions.
- 41:33There's a side effect 5.4, section 5.4.
- 41:37It says I'm reading literally.
- 41:38So I'm not making this up.
- 41:40Zesteril can cause symptomatic hypotension, hypotension is low
- 41:43blood pressure.
- 41:46Sometimes complicated by oliguria, that means reduced um
- 41:51urine output, progressive uh azotemia, azotemia.
- 41:56Uh, that's a bad thing, acute renal failure,
- 41:59and death.
- 42:00Failure and death.
- 42:02Now I know this isn't common, and millions
- 42:02Now I know this isn't common, and millions
- 42:04of people are on this, and please don't
- 42:04of people are on this, and please don't
- 42:06stop it without consulting with your doctor and
- 42:06stop it without consulting with your doctor and
- 42:08figuring out another strategy.
- 42:08figuring out another strategy.
- 42:10I'm just pointing out that this is not
- 42:10I'm just pointing out that this is not
- 42:12a benign product that should be used willy-nilly.
- 42:12a benign product that should be used willy-nilly.
- 42:15Then there's section 5.6.
- 42:15Then there's section 5.6.
- 42:17ACE inhibitors, that's what zestral lysinoprel is.
- 42:17ACE inhibitors, that's what zestral lysinopril is, angiotensin
- 42:21converting enzyme inhibitor.
- 42:21Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor.
- 42:25That's what the ACE ACE stands for, have
- 42:25That's what the ACE ACE stands for, have
- 42:27been associated with a
- 42:27been associated with a syndrome that starts with
- 42:29jaundice.
- 42:32It's when you turn yellow because your liver
- 42:35isn't working, or hepatitis.
- 42:37Anytime you see the word itis, it means
- 42:39inflammation.
- 42:40So HEPA is liver, itis is inflammation.
- 42:44So hepatitis is inflammation of the liver and
- 42:48progresses to fulminant hepatic necrosis.
- 42:52That means the liver kind of dies.
- 42:55And sometimes wait for it, death.
- 42:59So listen, my approach to hypertension is not
- 43:03to prescribe a drug, except rarely.
- 43:07My approach is to look for the root
- 43:08cause.
- 43:09So here are some of the things I
- 43:10do.
- 43:11What's your weight and your level of physical
- 43:12fitness?
- 43:14Let's lose some weight.
- 43:15Let's get physically fit.
- 43:17How's your stress might be the single most
- 43:21important causal relationship with hypertension?
- 43:25If you're under a lot of stress, I'm
- 43:28going to work with you, figure out what's
- 43:31going on, help you reduce your stress, reduce
- 43:34your stress by getting in nature, getting in
- 43:37sunshine, grounding, go in and see a counselor.
- 43:40I see a counselor myself almost weekly, a
- 43:42faith-based counselor.
- 43:45So helpful just to download the weeks of
- 43:47stress and things that are going on in
- 43:50my life to keep me balanced, to keep
- 43:52me accountable.
- 43:54I think seeing a counselor is a wonderful
- 43:56thing.
- 43:58Men that are listening, look at it this
- 43:59way.
- 44:00Think of it as coaching.
- 44:01If you want to be a better golfer,
- 44:03yeah, you got to play a lot of
- 44:06golf, but it's so helpful to have a
- 44:08coach that can look at you objectively from
- 44:10afar and give you instructions about altering your
- 44:12swing, your grip, uh, all these different elements
- 44:15of golfing or any sport that you might
- 44:17play.
- 44:19So counseling, coaching can be a great way
- 44:23to help lower stress, breath work, meditation, prayer,
- 44:26all these things are so important.
- 44:30And in addition to that, I think seeing
- 44:33a chiropractor regularly is a good thing.
- 44:35And if you have hypertension and you see
- 44:38me, unless you're unless your high blood pressure
- 44:40is so high that it's like urgent that
- 44:42we treat it.
- 44:44Uh, if it's just moderately high, I'm gonna
- 44:47do all these things way before I put
- 44:49you on any kind of drugs.
- 44:52See a chiropractor.
- 44:53If your nerves are being impinged as they
- 44:56exit your spinal cord through your vertebrae, that
- 44:59is like a dimmer switch on a light.
- 45:02And your nerves may be dimmed a little
- 45:04bit, and the things that are innervated by
- 45:06those nerves, your heart, your lungs, your blood
- 45:09press, your blood cells, your um, your blood
- 45:11vessels, where I meant to say, all parts
- 45:14of your body, those are being affected.
- 45:16It could raise your blood pressure and the
- 45:19simple manipulation of going to a chiropractor on
- 45:22a regular basis can certainly help.
- 45:25Okay.
- 45:26So what is my approach next?
- 45:29It's to use a group of supplements to
- 45:31help.
- 45:33Now, please listen to me carefully.
- 45:35I am not suggesting that you should take
- 45:37supplements to cure your blood pressure.
- 45:40I'm talking about supplements that can support your
- 45:43cardiovascular health and blood pressure.
- 45:47I've been recommending supplements for a long time.
- 45:49There's a group of supplements that I can
- 45:51that I think can make a difference.
- 45:52They're called uh the supplements are, and there
- 45:56are other ones too, but these are the
- 45:59main ones magnesium, beetroot, ashwagonda, which is an
- 46:03adaptogen, L-theanine, amino acid that can help calm
- 46:06your nerves, and even omega-3 fatty acids.
- 46:10All of those are excellent at helping to
- 46:14support cardiovascular health and being part of the
- 46:18picture and the solution to naturally and healthfully
- 46:21lowering your blood pressure.
- 46:25Now, all of those supplements that I just
- 46:29mentioned magnesium, beetroot, ashwagonda, L-theanine, and omega-3 fatty
- 46:32acids, I decided to take all of those
- 46:36and put them into a single supplement.
- 46:39I call it RX for Liberty blood pressure
- 46:43support, RX for Liberty, blood pressure support.
- 46:47In the show notes, I will be posting
- 46:50a link where if you want, you can
- 46:52purchase this supplement.
- 46:56Again, I am not here to diagnose or
- 46:59treat any medical problem.
- 47:02Always check with your own doctor before starting
- 47:05any medication or any supplement.
- 47:08But I have found great success in my
- 47:12patients, my friends, my family, in using the
- 47:15combination of these supplements, Rx for Liberty, blood
- 47:19pressure support that contains magnesium, beetroot, ashwagonda, L-theanine,
- 47:22and omega-3 fatty acids in one to help
- 47:26you.
- 47:29Um, so check it out and let me
- 47:31know what you think.
- 47:32I'm super excited that I uh found these
- 47:34supplements.
- 47:37Uh, I'm working with a local uh source
- 47:40of these ingredients.
- 47:43Um, all of the supplements are third-party tested.
- 47:46All of the supplements in every batch, not
- 47:49just batches once a year, um, have certificates,
- 47:53what are called COAs, certificates of uh of
- 47:56authenticity, so important.
- 48:00Um, and there are no janky additional ingredients.
- 48:03So there's no silicon dioxide, which I don't
- 48:05think is a healthy supplement for anybody to
- 48:07take.
- 48:09So it's clean, it's pure, it's third-party tested.
- 48:13They all have COAs.
- 48:15You can look this up, and you can
- 48:17order them directly through RX4 Liberty, blood pressure
- 48:20support.
- 48:22There'll be a link in the show notes.
- 48:24Let me know what you think.
- 48:25This literally, you're listening.
- 48:27If you're listening to this on a Saturday
- 48:29or a Sunday or Monday, today I'm recording
- 48:30this.
- 48:32I usually don't say this.
- 48:34We're supposed to keep this kind of secret,
- 48:37but I'm recording this podcast, this show on
- 48:40iHeart Radio on the podcast on Wednesday evening,
- 48:43May 13th.
- 48:47So if you're listening to it a few
- 48:50days later on the weekend or next Monday,
- 48:52this supplement is literally launching on Friday, May
- 48:5515th.
- 48:59First time ever.
- 49:00Ever.
- 49:00Super excited.
- 49:00Super excited.
- 49:01I've got a couple other supplements I'm working
- 49:01I've got a couple other supplements I'm working
- 49:03on.
- 49:03on.
- 49:04I'm only going to put together supplements where
- 49:04I'm only going to put together supplements where
- 49:06it makes sense, where alternatives that are better
- 49:06it makes sense, where alternatives that are better
- 49:09are not available.
- 49:09are not available.
- 49:12So I'm really excited to get into this
- 49:12So I'm really excited to get into this
- 49:14supplement world.
- 49:14supplement world.
- 49:16Again, remember, my goal here is not for
- 49:16Again, remember, my goal here is not for
- 49:18you to be healthy for health's sake.
- 49:18you to be healthy for health's sake.
- 49:21My goal is for you to be healthy
- 49:21My goal is for you to be healthy
- 49:23so you can serve whatever God's purpose is
- 49:23so you can serve whatever God's purpose is
- 49:25in your life.
- 49:25in your life.
- 49:27So blood pressure, that's my approach.
- 49:27So blood pressure, that's my approach.
- 49:30Root cause.
- 49:32Do things like stress reduction, meditation, get in
- 49:34nature.
- 49:36Please see a chiropractor.
- 49:38I see a chiropractor uh pretty much weekly.
- 49:41Get out, I get out of routine a
- 49:42little bit.
- 49:43I go see Billy Damas in Newport Beach.
- 49:45He's wonderful.
- 49:46He's become a friend.
- 49:47He's a great chiropractor.
- 49:49We do seminars together sometimes as well.
- 49:52Um the other thing I want to talk
- 49:54to you about, because I get a cajillion
- 49:57questions on this.
- 50:00Peptides, weight loss peptides.
- 50:03What up with that?
- 50:05Barkie, you're all natural.
- 50:07Do you think it's a good idea to
- 50:09go on GLP1, GLP2, GLP3?
- 50:12That's not actually accurate names, but you get
- 50:14the idea.
- 50:16GLP1, semi-glutide.
- 50:18I'm not going to mention the branded names,
- 50:20but you all know what it is that
- 50:22you get at the pharmacies that are prescribed
- 50:24in those fancy pens.
- 50:26But GLP1 is semi-glutide.
- 50:28GLP2 is trisepatide, GLP3, not yet approved, but
- 50:32will be soon is retatrutide, also known as
- 50:35RETA.
- 50:38Listen, I prefer a disciplined approach to losing
- 50:40weight.
- 50:43We all know how difficult it can be
- 50:45for many of us if you're overweight and
- 50:47you've been so for many, many years.
- 50:50I get it.
- 50:51So I think some of these weight loss
- 50:53peptides can be used safely.
- 50:56But here's the rub.
- 50:59Number one, only under medical supervision, please.
- 51:03I've seen people get harmed by high dose
- 51:06semi-glutide or even trisepatite.
- 51:08I've seen people lose primarily muscle, not fat.
- 51:12Uh, so be careful and be monitored carefully.
- 51:15Low dose only under supervision.
- 51:18So in my office, we carry a bunch
- 51:20of peptides, but I'm going to talk right
- 51:22now about the weight loss peptides.
- 51:24There are three non-starters.
- 51:26Three things I need somebody to do if
- 51:27I'm going to use peptides on them to
- 51:29help them lose weight.
- 51:31Number one, they have to eat plenty of
- 51:33protein.
- 51:34I recommend about 100 grams of protein a
- 51:36day.
- 51:37Not easy to do.
- 51:38Probably need a protein powder to help you
- 51:40with that.
- 51:41Um, uh, certainly not easy to do.
- 51:44Number two, you need to be lifting weights.
- 51:47If you're not lifting weights, don't ask me
- 51:49for peptides to lose weight.
- 51:50Otherwise, you'll end up losing muscle and not
- 51:52losing fat.
- 51:53You will be lighter, but you will not
- 51:55be healthier.
- 51:57Number three, you need some sort of trackable
- 52:00device, Apple Watch, Aura Ring, Fitbit, Whoopstrap, I
- 52:03don't care, or just your iPhone.
- 52:06And I want to see 15,000 steps a
- 52:08day.
- 52:11If you're not willing to commit to those
- 52:13things or getting close to those things, not
- 52:15going to put you on peptides.
- 52:17And then finally, I want to see you
- 52:19monthly.
- 52:20We have a fancy, schmancy body comp machine
- 52:23called in body.
- 52:25Uh, we've got a brand new one.
- 52:27Boy, are they expensive, but they provide great
- 52:28information.
- 52:30So before I start somebody on a weight
- 52:32loss peptide, we do an in-body analysis.
- 52:35We can see how much body fat, how
- 52:38much skeletal muscle.
- 52:41It also measures and gives us an estimate
- 52:43of visceral fat.
- 52:44It's got a composite score.
- 52:46We can tell percent body fat.
- 52:49So as somebody moves forward with these peptides,
- 52:51I want to see that they're losing weight,
- 52:53but they're not losing muscle.
- 52:55And if they are losing muscle, then we
- 52:57we're gonna have a conversation about those three
- 52:59things about getting plenty of protein, about lifting
- 53:01weights, and getting plenty of movement and steps
- 53:04throughout the day.
- 53:06So I've had tons of people successfully use
- 53:09GLP ones, lose a GLP ones, twos, and
- 53:11threes, uh, lose a substantial amount of weight,
- 53:14uh, and that weight is disproportionately fat over
- 53:17muscle.
- 53:20So I think they can be beneficial.
- 53:22By the way, there's also a whole group
- 53:24of other peptides as well that I think
- 53:26can be beneficial.
- 53:28Um, unfortunately, these peptides often are not FDA
- 53:30approved.
- 53:32They're for quote unquote experimental use only.
- 53:35I think the peptide world is going to
- 53:37change under the leadership of uh Bobby Kennedy
- 53:39Jr.
- 53:41Um, he has talked about releasing some of
- 53:44these peptides uh and making them uh FDA
- 53:47uh okay.
- 53:50Um, so doctors and others aren't getting into
- 53:52trouble.
- 53:54I mean, the reality is, especially here where
- 53:56I practice in coastal Orange County, uh, everybody
- 53:59and their mother is on peptides, and there's
- 54:02so many shops that are selling peptides from
- 54:04health clinics and uh maybe even chiropractor offices
- 54:07and whatever, and that's fine.
- 54:10But you got to be very, very careful
- 54:12also about where you get your peptides.
- 54:14You want to make sure that it's from
- 54:16a FDA certified compounding lab.
- 54:18That's not to say that the compounds are
- 54:21FDA approved, they're not, but the labs are
- 54:23certified in a way that you know they're
- 54:26compliant with uh commonly accepted uh compounding and
- 54:28pharmacy uh mechanisms.
- 54:31I forget there's a there's a there's a
- 54:33name for that.
- 54:34And then second, you want to make sure
- 54:37that they're manufactured domestically and that they're all
- 54:40third-party tested with COAs.
- 54:43Finally, I've heard a lot about well, my
- 54:45my substrates and amino acids don't come from
- 54:46China.
- 54:48No, I'm sorry, they all do come from
- 54:50China, but here's the difference.
- 54:52The FDA has what they call the green
- 54:53list.
- 54:54So there's probably a uh just a ton
- 54:56of uh places you can buy these from
- 54:58China, and sometimes you can buy them very,
- 55:00very cheap.
- 55:03But the FDA has vetted some of these
- 55:05labs and producers of amino acid peptides in
- 55:08China, and they're on this green list.
