- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to Fowl Territory. I'm Alona Rizzo
- 0:07Speaker 1: and for Scott Braun alongside Kevin Palar, who I believe
- 0:11Speaker 1: is in Torsas right now, and Aj Pierzinski who is
- 0:15Speaker 1: live at Mariners Camp, and that is where we are today.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We are psyched that you guys are along with us
- 0:20Speaker 1: and the Foul Territory Spring Training Tour is engineered by Fastinal.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Checkout fastenal dot com for more information. We are psyched
- 0:29Speaker 2: that they are with us along the way and we
- 0:31Speaker 2: are here. We have you covered for spring training. As
- 0:34Speaker 2: I mentioned, we're at the MS camp today, Rangers, Tomorrow,
- 0:38Speaker 2: Brew Crew, Reds, Cubs, you name it. We're there, Arizona
- 0:41Speaker 2: Diamondbacks on the twenty sixth, then the Giants, and then
- 0:43Speaker 2: we head to Florida Cardinals, Marlins, Mets, NAT's astros goes
- 0:49Speaker 2: on and on and on. We wrap it up on
- 0:51Speaker 2: the nineteenth with the Philadelphia Phillies. But Aj is in Peoria.
- 0:55Speaker 2: We're psyched. We have a lot of guests coming up
- 0:57Speaker 2: scheduled here. Let's get to that momentarily. First, boys, let's
- 1:01Speaker 2: charge the mounds.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:07Speaker 2: This is a bummer.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Before we dig into this I just want to say,
- 1:12Speaker 3: when we call it, by the way, we call it
- 1:14Speaker 3: God's Country, and we head to Florida. So when we
- 1:16Speaker 3: head to God's Country, you know everything will get better.
- 1:20Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And then also, uh, by the way, when our show
- 1:24Speaker 3: is foul territory, where I am sitting is in foul
- 1:26Speaker 3: territory of BP and Mark, Mark is supposed to protect me,
- 1:31Speaker 3: But I feel like I have a better chance of
- 1:34Speaker 3: anything else protecting me than Mark. Does you have a glove?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Why don't they put put an l screen behind you
- 1:42Speaker 2: or just put some sort of barricade.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And Mark's son is sitting over here, and he's supposed
- 1:47Speaker 3: to be protecting me, Jake, But Jake is so far away.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I didn't want to say his name, but so but
- 1:52Speaker 3: Jake is so far away from me that if a
- 1:53Speaker 3: ball came over here, he could never get here in time.
- 1:56Speaker 3: We clearly he's never been around a baseball field before.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Kp like he's it's like the bullpen guy. That's you know,
- 2:02Speaker 3: when used to have bullpens on the field, you'd have
- 2:04Speaker 3: the guy that the guy standing behind him, and they'd
- 2:07Speaker 3: be so far away the ball would get hit and
- 2:08Speaker 3: they couldn't get to it.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's Jacob, or they'd be watching it. Would they be
- 2:12Speaker 4: watching the guy warming up in the bullpen exactly?
- 2:15Speaker 3: So anyways, but continue Alta now that I've been to.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I appreciate you taking one for the team and putting
- 2:23Speaker 2: your body out there and sacrificing yourself for the betterment
- 2:26Speaker 2: of foul territory. In foul territory, now let's charge the
- 2:30Speaker 2: mounds charging about all right, this is a bummer, you guys.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Pablo Lopez of the Minnesota Twins starter of course, had
- 2:40Speaker 2: a second opinion and unfortunately confirmed what we already feared.
- 2:45Speaker 2: He is requiring Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. AJ.
- 2:49Speaker 2: He is going to miss the entire season. This is
- 2:52Speaker 2: a massive blow to a Twins team AJ that was
- 2:55Speaker 2: already decimated, and now you lose your top end.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Starter and also a team member. They said they were
- 3:01Speaker 3: competing this year, they were going for it this year
- 3:04Speaker 3: after they traded away what ten guys at the trade
- 3:07Speaker 3: deadline last year and didn't really sign a whole lot
- 3:10Speaker 3: of free agency to bolster that. So this is a
- 3:12Speaker 3: huge blow. And everyone said they should have traded Pablo
- 3:14Speaker 3: maybe last year. Now, what do you do with Joe Ryan, right,
- 3:17Speaker 3: another valuable commodity that they have on this team. Do
- 3:20Speaker 3: you trade him in case God forbid something happens to him?
- 3:22Speaker 3: But the biggest takeaway from this for me is it
- 3:25Speaker 3: just sucks because Pablo Lopez is a great human being
- 3:27Speaker 3: and a great guy and a great pitcher. So for
- 3:30Speaker 3: him to be out, he's going to be out for
- 3:31Speaker 3: this year, and then obviously he's going to probably miss
- 3:33Speaker 3: someone next year too, so this is almost a two
- 3:36Speaker 3: year thing. It just sucks for for not only the
- 3:38Speaker 3: twins are fans, but also for Pablo, And.
- 3:40Speaker 4: So, yeah, I echo what you say. I love watching
- 3:43Speaker 4: Pablo Lopez pitch. He's a great human being. He's a
- 3:46Speaker 4: fun pitcher to watch. But when I heard the news,
- 3:48Speaker 4: that's immediately where my mind went to and everything they
- 3:52Speaker 4: did last year in selling off all their assets, and
- 3:55Speaker 4: I know they said they're going to try to compete
- 3:57Speaker 4: this year, but sometimes when the wind is open for
- 4:00Speaker 4: you to trade a guy, you know, injuries are part
- 4:03Speaker 4: of the game, especially with starting pitchers, and you know,
- 4:05Speaker 4: obviously this is new news. It wouldn't have been you know,
- 4:08Speaker 4: bad to trade him last year because he didn't have
- 4:10Speaker 4: an injury at the time, But sometimes you just got
- 4:13Speaker 4: to take the best off route there. Sometimes you hoard
- 4:15Speaker 4: these players a little bit too long and then something
- 4:17Speaker 4: unfortunate like this happens. Where you have these assets you
- 4:21Speaker 4: got to and you're not competing right now, You've got
- 4:23Speaker 4: to go out and sell them and try to make
- 4:24Speaker 4: your team a little bit better in the future.
- 4:26Speaker 5: If that's the direction you're going.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Kevin, how about this. We just got some information on
- 4:31Speaker 2: X Aaron Gleaman tweeting this Joe Ryan has been scratched
- 4:34Speaker 2: from today's start versus the Red Sox. No reason given
- 4:38Speaker 2: by the Twins yet. Should we make something of that?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Or is that is we should not imagine speculate. But
- 4:44Speaker 2: that's a little odd.
- 4:46Speaker 4: It's a little odd considering he's going to be pitching
- 4:48Speaker 4: for Team USA, so his ramp up periods a little
- 4:50Speaker 4: bit quicker, and it is very important for him to
- 4:53Speaker 4: get out on the mound and pitch because he does
- 4:56Speaker 4: have to be a little bit ready sooner because he's
- 4:58Speaker 4: going to pitch for Team USA. So so maybe you
- 5:02Speaker 4: nailed it perfectly. Maybe he's a guy that you know.
- 5:05Speaker 4: With the new news, the Pablo Lopez, maybe they're asking
- 5:07Speaker 4: price came down a little bit where maybe there's a
- 5:09Speaker 4: little bit more desperation to maybe try to trade him
- 5:12Speaker 4: before something bad potentially happens.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Aga, could you see Joe Ryan being moved before the
- 5:17Speaker 2: season starts.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I didn't think so, but maybe now or God forbid,
- 5:22Speaker 3: let's hope he's not hurt. Right, that's didn't pop up
- 5:25Speaker 3: to Ryan so oh low back tightness apparently on his
- 5:29Speaker 3: right side. So that's good. But you know what that's
- 5:32Speaker 3: gonna do. I hate to say this, it's gonna take
- 5:34Speaker 3: him probably out of Team USA. If there is any
- 5:36Speaker 3: little teeny tiny thing that pops up on these teams,
- 5:40Speaker 3: especially before they get to the tm UOSA, they usually
- 5:43Speaker 3: pull him out. So sadly, this means that he's probably
- 5:48Speaker 3: gonna miss out on pitching for TMOSA. But I'll just
- 5:51Speaker 3: go get someone else. We're in Manner's camp. I could
- 5:53Speaker 3: come up with about three or four guys in Manor's camp,
- 5:56Speaker 3: Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryan Wu and Bryce Miller. That
- 6:00Speaker 3: it all look nice in that USA uniform. We can't
- 6:02Speaker 3: go Louis Castillo because I'm sure he's pitching for the
- 6:05Speaker 3: dr his hometown. So yeah, it just is just one
- 6:08Speaker 3: of those bad things and if they missed Jill Ryan
- 6:11Speaker 3: for a long time. They're not competing with anything except
- 6:12Speaker 3: for last place.
- 6:15Speaker 2: All right.
- 6:16Speaker 3: We got the Warby Parkers. I got the Raiders, but
- 6:19Speaker 3: one thing that upgraded to polarized. Sorry about it.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Yeah, these are good not only for wearing, but also
- 6:27Speaker 6: out in the sun. When I become that baseball coach
- 6:29Speaker 6: I always want to be with my kids. I got
- 6:31Speaker 6: the Hatchers. They're darker, a little bit wider for my face.
- 6:35Speaker 6: They fit perfect, They're comfortable. It's an easy process to
- 6:38Speaker 6: order these really really cool glasses.
- 6:40Speaker 7: I am a diehard Warby Parker fan. I do have
- 6:44Speaker 7: prescription glasses and I wear Warby Parker every day for
- 6:47Speaker 7: many years. I'm excited about this one. Give it a shot.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Warby Parker gives you quality and better looking prescription I
- 6:53Speaker 7: wear at a fraction of the going price. Our listeners
- 6:55Speaker 7: get fifteen percent off plus free shipping when they buy
- 6:58Speaker 7: two or more pairs of scripses at Warbyparker dot com
- 7:02Speaker 7: slash foul. That's fifteen percent off when you buy two
- 7:04Speaker 7: pairs of glasses at wa Rby Parker dot com slash foul.
- 7:10Speaker 7: After you purchase, they will ask you where you heard
- 7:12Speaker 7: about them. Please support our show and tell them foul
- 7:14Speaker 7: Territory sent you.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Now, I hope that he is okay. Low backkind is fine,
- 7:19Speaker 2: but I would hate that he doesn't get the opportunity
- 7:21Speaker 2: to pitch for USA for the WBC. Let's take a look,
- 7:24Speaker 2: you guys at the Twins projected starting a rotation now
- 7:27Speaker 2: that we know that Pablo Lopez is out for the season,
- 7:29Speaker 2: perhaps even longer than that, because this is going to
- 7:31Speaker 2: be a second surgery in terms of reconstruction. So let's
- 7:35Speaker 2: just assume Joe Ryan is okay, and let's just assume
- 7:37Speaker 2: he's going to be a Twin this season. Bailey ober
- 7:40Speaker 2: Simeon Woods, Richardson, Taj Bradley, and then Zebbie Matthews. This
- 7:44Speaker 2: is not a rotation AJ that streams at you. But
- 7:47Speaker 2: they do have some good arms. But is it going
- 7:50Speaker 2: to be enough for the Twins to compete who They
- 7:52Speaker 2: say they're going for it, But I don't know in
- 7:54Speaker 2: that division, I'm not so sure.
- 7:57Speaker 3: No, it's not enough. It's not enough. I'm sorry, listen,
- 8:00Speaker 3: it's not They don't have enough offense already to begin with.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Their relief corps was decimated by trades last year. They
- 8:06Speaker 3: traded a Duran, they traded Jacks, they traded all their
- 8:08Speaker 3: best relievers. The Tigers are really good. Remember they have
- 8:12Speaker 3: they have Fromber, they have schoobl they have Casey Miz
- 8:16Speaker 3: they have Flairty and oh yeah, they brought back Justin
- 8:18Speaker 3: Verlander as their fifth starter. So that's one team in
- 8:21Speaker 3: their division. Then you go to the Guardians who won
- 8:23Speaker 3: the division last year. We know how much pitching they have.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Then you go to the Royals with Lugo Waka, Reagan's
- 8:29Speaker 3: uh the other lefty camera no a camera, they have
- 8:32Speaker 3: boo bitch. They have all those guys right, they are
- 8:34Speaker 3: all they're they're bullpen with Stevis and then they have
- 8:36Speaker 3: Bobby Witt and Vinnie Pasmentino. The White Sox are on
- 8:39Speaker 3: the come up. So I look at it right now
- 8:43Speaker 3: that they're the last place team in this division. I
- 8:45Speaker 3: know they say they want to compete and they're they're
- 8:47Speaker 3: saying all the right things, but I just look at
- 8:49Speaker 3: this team and say, where are they going to get offense?
- 8:51Speaker 3: And not that, but they don't have even close to
- 8:53Speaker 3: enough pitching for.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Me, Kevin, do does this team even have a chance
- 8:57Speaker 2: of getting in via the wild card because I don't
- 8:59Speaker 2: I don't believe the division is even even a thought.
- 9:01Speaker 2: But wildcard, which banded playoffs? Do they have a shot?
- 9:05Speaker 4: No, Because I mean we could sit here and say,
- 9:07Speaker 4: arguably the Central is the weakest division, you know, in
- 9:12Speaker 4: the in the American League, you know, the West is
- 9:15Speaker 4: very strong, the East is always very strong. But ag
- 9:18Speaker 4: you just mentioned you know three teams that pitching wise
- 9:22Speaker 4: are way better than them, offensively, way better than them.
- 9:24Speaker 4: And you could even make an argument that the White
- 9:26Speaker 4: Sox may have a better overall team because they weren't.
- 9:30Speaker 4: They weren't putting one foot in and saying we're competing,
- 9:32Speaker 4: but we're also trading. They've been rebuilding and they've been
- 9:35Speaker 4: able to sell all their assets off and bringing a
- 9:37Speaker 4: lot of young guys, and.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Maybe it's this year.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Maybe this is the year where they take a step
- 9:42Speaker 4: forward and going from bottom of the division, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 4: and maybe jumping over the Twins. I truly do believe that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: In terms of their rotation, though I think they have
- 9:50Speaker 4: some nice pieces, I think there's just a lot of
- 9:52Speaker 4: unproven guys in that rotation and give giving uh, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 4: with Lopez being out and giving some guys some more opportunity.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It will pay dividends in the future. But they're not
- 10:02Speaker 4: a team that is even sniffing the postseason this year.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 10:07Speaker 7: That's what he said.
- 10:09Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 10:10Speaker 2: That's what he said. We got to talk about the
- 10:14Speaker 2: Angels a little bit, and it's always something with garbage
- 10:18Speaker 2: with the Angels. AJA listen to this Artie Moreno, who
- 10:21Speaker 2: I would just I pray he just sells the team.
- 10:22Speaker 2: The owner of the Angels said today that he doesn't
- 10:25Speaker 2: prioritize winning because it's not even a top five priority
- 10:31Speaker 2: for the fan base. Marena goes on to say, the
- 10:33Speaker 2: number one thing fans want is affordability. They want affordability,
- 10:37Speaker 2: they want safety, and they want a good experience when
- 10:40Speaker 2: they come to the ballpark. Believe it or not, AJ,
- 10:43Speaker 2: winning is not in their top five.
- 10:46Speaker 5: What say you?
- 10:48Speaker 3: There's some fans here? Should I grab some you? Should?
- 10:51Speaker 3: They were? Just and ask him because every fan I
- 10:55Speaker 3: talked to says they want their team to be good
- 10:58Speaker 3: and to win. Am I wrong in this one? So
- 11:01Speaker 3: if it's not in the top five, given what do
- 11:03Speaker 3: we think the top five is? For Ardie Morino? I
- 11:05Speaker 3: know he said, I know he said affordability, safety, good experience.
- 11:11Speaker 3: That's three. So winning is what are the next two?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Making money for him would be four? Right, I think
- 11:16Speaker 3: be five try in center field and one through winning.
- 11:21Speaker 2: One through five. I think winning is a given right
- 11:23Speaker 2: that should not have Let's just say that this was
- 11:25Speaker 2: a poll KP. Let's say there was a poll given
- 11:28Speaker 2: out or a survey given out as a focus group
- 11:30Speaker 2: to a bunch of fans. To me, winning is obvious.
- 11:35Speaker 2: If there's going to be other things in terms of categories,
- 11:38Speaker 2: maybe that's when you say, you know, ballpark experience, amenities, concessions,
- 11:42Speaker 2: those types of things. Winning shouldn't be a category. It
- 11:45Speaker 2: should be the ultimate goal.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Well, I think the other two things that he mentioned
- 11:49Speaker 4: shouldn't even be on the list too. I think everyone
- 11:51Speaker 4: wants to go to a ballpark that's safe. I think
- 11:53Speaker 4: that's a non negotiable. I think people want to have
- 11:55Speaker 4: a good experience as well. I think that's a non negotiable.
- 11:58Speaker 4: So I don't really know what the point of this
- 12:00Speaker 4: kind of survey was, because to me, winning his all
- 12:04Speaker 4: fans should really do care about, and that's a non negotiable,
- 12:07Speaker 4: much like going to the field and feeling safe and affordability.
- 12:11Speaker 4: I mean, maybe the list should have been like giveaways
- 12:14Speaker 4: and concessions and things like that, because I have no
- 12:16Speaker 4: idea what he's talking about.
- 12:18Speaker 5: I mean, the Angels. The Angels don't I don't think.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Ardy moreno realizes how great of an asset he has.
- 12:25Speaker 4: You know, I got a chance to play there, and
- 12:27Speaker 4: it is arguably one of the best places to play
- 12:29Speaker 4: in baseball southern California, you know, the Orange County, The
- 12:33Speaker 4: weather's beautiful, the fans are very passionate. I mean, he
- 12:38Speaker 4: doesn't realize what he has because if he really cared
- 12:41Speaker 4: about winning, it would be such a destination for players
- 12:44Speaker 4: to want to come and play.
- 12:46Speaker 5: It's just a matter of time.
- 12:47Speaker 4: He just needs to get rid of the team because
- 12:50Speaker 4: he really doesn't really care about you know, the Angels,
- 12:53Speaker 4: And obviously franchise values are going way up right now.
- 12:56Speaker 4: And I think there was a quote he came out
- 12:57Speaker 4: with the other day that said he wasn't actively shopping,
- 13:00Speaker 4: but I think there's a lot of people interested in buying,
- 13:02Speaker 4: So hopefully someone just kind of blows them away with
- 13:05Speaker 4: an offer here soon and we could kind of move
- 13:07Speaker 4: past the story.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I feel like he's been actively shopping for many years.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Sam Blum, who covers the Angels for The Athletic, actually
- 13:14Speaker 2: had a poll himself a few earlier this month, guys,
- 13:18Speaker 2: how confident are you in the Angels direction? And not
- 13:23Speaker 2: confident at all? Led the pack. Fifty point seven percent
- 13:27Speaker 2: of those that took the moment for the survey don't
- 13:30Speaker 2: feel good about where the Angels are going and how
- 13:32Speaker 2: can you? It seems like every time we talk about
- 13:34Speaker 2: the Angels, it's because of some sort of misstep sell
- 13:39Speaker 2: the team, like what are.
- 13:40Speaker 3: We doing Elana? What did kp just say it should
- 13:44Speaker 3: be a destination for players. It's almost like there's a
- 13:48Speaker 3: team in southern California with Los Angeles in their name
- 13:51Speaker 3: who we were at yesterday and we had their president
- 13:54Speaker 3: of baseball offs Andrew Friedman, on and he said, our
- 13:56Speaker 3: whole goal was to make this a destination or player
- 14:00Speaker 3: want to come. Guess what they've done. They've made it
- 14:03Speaker 3: a destination. Players want to come. Why because they win
- 14:06Speaker 3: and players know that they got a great chance to
- 14:08Speaker 3: go to the postseason and win a ring. To say
- 14:11Speaker 3: this is unbelievable on so many levels. But again, every
- 14:15Speaker 3: baseball fan you talk to, they don't just go, man,
- 14:18Speaker 3: you know what, I'm a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. I just
- 14:21Speaker 3: like to go because it's affordable. No, yes, affordability matters,
- 14:26Speaker 3: they go. Why did the Pittsburgh Pirates not draw forty
- 14:29Speaker 3: thousand a year because they don't win? Winning is number one.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Winning cures all. You can have the worst stadium in
- 14:35Speaker 3: the world, fans will show up if you win. You
- 14:39Speaker 3: can have the most affordable stadium in the world. Fans
- 14:42Speaker 3: will show up when you win, not because it's cheap.
- 14:45Speaker 3: You'll get way more fans if you prioritize winning. So
- 14:48Speaker 3: I don't know where this came from or what pole
- 14:50Speaker 3: they were doing. Maybe they asked Artie's family what was
- 14:53Speaker 3: the most important I don't know. We need to see
- 14:55Speaker 3: the results of this poll. But not in the top five,
- 14:57Speaker 3: not in the top two, to say, is a believable
- 15:00Speaker 3: because it should be number one to try to win.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And priority hasn't been our winning hasn't been a priority. Guys,
- 15:05Speaker 2: if you look at their season records. Of course last
- 15:08Speaker 2: year seventy three and ninety sixty three and ninety nine
- 15:11Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, twenty twenty three, and twenty two,
- 15:14Speaker 2: exact same records seventy three and eighty nine. The last
- 15:18Speaker 2: time they had a winning season, KP was in two
- 15:21Speaker 2: thousand and fifteen. We're going on more than ten years.
- 15:24Speaker 2: They went eighty five and seventy seven. I mean, this
- 15:27Speaker 2: has not been a good team for a long time.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know, for a majority of that time,
- 15:34Speaker 4: they had you know, the best player in baseball and
- 15:37Speaker 4: Mike Trout on their team, and they paired him up
- 15:39Speaker 4: with Shoe Hee o'tani, who is the best player in baseball,
- 15:42Speaker 4: and they still didn't win. So obviously they don't have
- 15:46Speaker 4: a problem in getting some players.
- 15:49Speaker 5: There's a much bigger issue here.
- 15:50Speaker 4: And already saying that he doesn't prioritize winning is the
- 15:53Speaker 4: number one reason why they can't win.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Another poll by Sam was a howe a great Morano's
- 16:00Speaker 2: work as owner AJ They said seventy nine point five
- 16:04Speaker 2: was poor. He's not done a good job. He's not done.
- 16:07Speaker 2: He doesn't prioritize wunning. No.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Also, you know what KP just said, he doesn't also
- 16:13Speaker 3: give pitchers long term contracts, right, so they always what
- 16:15Speaker 3: are they always struggling for pitching, especially starting pitching, right,
- 16:20Speaker 3: They rush guys to the big leagues they don't have
- 16:22Speaker 3: a lot enough starting pitching, so they always falter if
- 16:24Speaker 3: they're even close to being in it at the end.
- 16:27Speaker 3: What do the Mariners have starting pitching? What did the
- 16:29Speaker 3: Astros have forever homegrown guys, good starting pitching, right? What
- 16:34Speaker 3: did the Rangers have when they won in twenty three,
- 16:36Speaker 3: great starting pitching and homegrown guys that led the offense? Right?
- 16:39Speaker 3: What are the Angels said, Yes, they have some homegrown guys,
- 16:42Speaker 3: but you know what, they haven't had enough pitching.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the acquisitions. They added Jose Siri outfielder, third baseman,
- 16:50Speaker 2: Heimer Candelario, right hand or Hunter Strickland. The team restructured
- 16:54Speaker 2: Anthony Rendon's contract, thank god, to free up short term funds.
- 16:57Speaker 2: They re signed another third basement and you one Kata,
- 17:00Speaker 2: and added Kirbyates who was with the Dodgers last season
- 17:03Speaker 2: to their bullpen. So no starting arms really, and they
- 17:08Speaker 2: just have not focused on getting good starting pitching. They
- 17:12Speaker 2: haven't spent money. I mean, he's just happy making money.
- 17:15Speaker 2: And I hate it for the I hate it for
- 17:16Speaker 2: the game because it could really be a pretty a
- 17:20Speaker 2: pretty cool place to play and a good experience, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 2: for fans to go. But when you hear your owners
- 17:26Speaker 2: say that. I mean, at a certain point, you know,
- 17:29Speaker 2: folks talk with their wallets and they're not going to go.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yeahh I mean we've heard stories about We've heard stories,
- 17:36Speaker 4: you know, Kakuchi coming out and talking about, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 4: the inner workings of the stadium, and you know, and
- 17:43Speaker 4: even if we even if we want to just overlook
- 17:45Speaker 4: the fact that he said winning is not a priority,
- 17:47Speaker 4: and let's just assume that is a priority that doesn't
- 17:49Speaker 4: need to be talked about. If he's trying to give
- 17:52Speaker 4: the fans the best experience. It's not like he's putting
- 17:54Speaker 4: money into the facilities and the stadium. The stadium from
- 17:57Speaker 4: you know, ten thousand feet above looks, but when you
- 18:00Speaker 4: play there every single day and you have you know,
- 18:03Speaker 4: friends and families and you know, your wife and your
- 18:05Speaker 4: kids there in the stadium, the stadium definitely needs a facelift.
- 18:09Speaker 4: It's not like he's not putting money into putting the
- 18:12Speaker 4: best product on the field, and he's not also improving
- 18:14Speaker 4: the stadium. So clearly he's the only one making money
- 18:17Speaker 4: in this operation.
- 18:20Speaker 1: For sure. For sure.
- 18:21Speaker 3: K P. Let me let me ask you a question.
- 18:23Speaker 3: You played there, right, you played an anam. What was
- 18:25Speaker 3: it like? What was it like? What was it like? Now?
- 18:28Speaker 3: If you would have known that he didn't care about
- 18:29Speaker 3: winning when you went there, would you have gone there?
- 18:33Speaker 4: Well, I didn't really have a choice, but I will
- 18:35Speaker 4: tell you once I got there. I mean, it is
- 18:37Speaker 4: arguably one of the best places to play. The weather's perfect,
- 18:40Speaker 4: you can shove to the field early and you know
- 18:42Speaker 4: you're going to get early work in. You could hit
- 18:44Speaker 4: on the field, you can do all those sort of things,
- 18:47Speaker 4: you know, And living in Orange County and living in
- 18:49Speaker 4: Newport Beach doesn't suck. It definitely gives you the best
- 18:53Speaker 4: out of any places that I played. And as if
- 18:55Speaker 4: you look behind me, I got ten teams on this wall.
- 18:58Speaker 4: There was not a better place for work life balance
- 19:01Speaker 4: than playing in southern California.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Hey, by the way, I just want to ask you
- 19:06Speaker 3: before we go, because we didn't get your opinion. I
- 19:07Speaker 3: want your opinion on this. Mike Trout saying he has
- 19:10Speaker 3: to play centerfield. I saw Mike Cameron here earlier at
- 19:12Speaker 3: Mariner's camp and he put out the tweet about ego.
- 19:15Speaker 3: The ego tweet, and Mike Cameron was just trying to
- 19:18Speaker 3: explain it to me like man, centerfield is hard. So
- 19:20Speaker 3: I want your opinion. You played centerfield, KP. What do
- 19:22Speaker 3: you think about Mike Trout saying centerfield is Didn't he
- 19:24Speaker 3: say it's easier on his body than right field or
- 19:26Speaker 3: dhing and he feels better playing center than right field
- 19:30Speaker 3: or paging.
- 19:31Speaker 5: I'll I do have an interesting take on it.
- 19:34Speaker 4: And I had left that year in twenty three and
- 19:39Speaker 4: Mike played, they asked him to play the corners, and yes,
- 19:44Speaker 4: as far as taxing as centerfield could be on your body,
- 19:47Speaker 4: because you have the most ground to cover, you have
- 19:49Speaker 4: the most responsibility in centerfield. I do think the corners
- 19:53Speaker 4: have an additional challenge for someone coming off, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 4: multiple knee surgeries. There's much harder play plants. You know,
- 20:00Speaker 4: when you have to cut a ball off down the
- 20:02Speaker 4: line and spin and throw. You obviously have you know
- 20:06Speaker 4: the bleachers to your left and right, whether you're playing
- 20:08Speaker 4: left or right field. I was definitely in favor of
- 20:11Speaker 4: Mike Trout staying in center field because I think the
- 20:14Speaker 4: movements that you make, the violent movements.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Happen more in the corners.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yes, there is a little bit greater responsibility responsibility in
- 20:21Speaker 4: center field, but I do think it is a little less.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Taxing on your body than playing the corners.
- 20:25Speaker 4: So I have a much different take on it, especially
- 20:29Speaker 4: in especially the way that Anaheim is constructed to center
- 20:33Speaker 4: field is actually the smallest part of the field in Anaheim,
- 20:36Speaker 4: so the run from the out from the outfield and
- 20:38Speaker 4: right field to the dugout is the furthest left field
- 20:41Speaker 4: is by far the biggest part of the field. So
- 20:43Speaker 4: I was in favor of Mike Trout playing center field.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I think him mixing between centerfield and DH is probably
- 20:49Speaker 4: the best recipe to keep him on the field.
- 20:52Speaker 7: Hey, when you're keeping the lights on for thousands or
- 20:55Speaker 7: even millions, reliability isn't optional. Fast and All helps power
- 20:59Speaker 7: generation team stay running with the right parts, tools and
- 21:02Speaker 7: safety gear right where the work happens.

- 21:07Speaker 3: and on site solutions keep your crew supplied, efficient and safe.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Fastenal powering up productivity one plan at a time.
- 21:16Speaker 7: Want to learn more, visit fastenall dot com for industrial
- 21:19Speaker 7: supplies and innovative solutions. That's fastnal dot com.
- 21:23Speaker 2: We're talking about Major League Baseball teams, managers and front offices.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Guys it's going to be feeling the heat if you will,
- 21:31Speaker 2: So let's talk about this. There were thirty six executives,
- 21:33Speaker 2: former executives, managers, coaches, and scouts to tell us which
- 21:37Speaker 2: front offices, managers and players are feeling the most heat
- 21:41Speaker 2: heading into the season. So if you take a look
- 21:43Speaker 2: at it, apparently garnering eighteen votes KP, Bryce Harper and
- 21:49Speaker 2: the Phillies core group. This is kind of coming off
- 21:51Speaker 2: of the whole conversation with Dombrowski saying that Bryce Harper
- 21:55Speaker 2: is no longer elite. David Stearns Mendy of the Mets,
- 21:58Speaker 2: aj Preller who just got an tension, and the Padres
- 22:01Speaker 2: for an office Aaron Judge, who just hit a two
- 22:02Speaker 2: run home run by the Way, and the Yankees players,
- 22:05Speaker 2: Dana Brown of the Astros, Joe Espada, Manny Machado, and
- 22:09Speaker 2: the Padres players. So the Briars showing up twice on
- 22:12Speaker 2: this list by the athletic Let's start with number one KP.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Bryce Harper is a guy that I never question, I
- 22:19Speaker 2: never worry about him, I never questioned his work ethic.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Why do you think they are saying that Bryce Harper
- 22:25Speaker 2: has a lot to prove?
- 22:28Speaker 4: Is his general manager president of Baseball Operations put a
- 22:32Speaker 4: target on his back. That's probably why he's the number
- 22:35Speaker 4: one person on this list. I've never questioned anything Bryce
- 22:39Speaker 4: Harper's ever done in his career.
- 22:40Speaker 5: It is hard to be at.
- 22:42Speaker 4: An elite level every single year, and even when he
- 22:45Speaker 4: is not elite, he is still better than most guys.
- 22:48Speaker 4: He just happened to have not an elite year last year,
- 22:51Speaker 4: and I think it's unfair for his GM and president
- 22:55Speaker 4: of Baseball Operations to kind of put that target on
- 22:57Speaker 4: his back. I would really like to see that list
- 23:00Speaker 4: turned to maybe the pressure should be on the Phillies
- 23:03Speaker 4: front office because they've been a team that's been oh
- 23:07Speaker 4: so close many times and they've built this really nice
- 23:11Speaker 4: core group of players together led by Bryce Harper, and
- 23:14Speaker 4: just haven't been able to win a World Series.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Bryce Harper, by the way, only had a one twenty
- 23:21Speaker 3: nine ops plus last year. So I mean, it wasn't
- 23:24Speaker 3: like he was absolutely awful. He was he was pretty
- 23:28Speaker 3: He was still pretty damn good. I mean, it wasn't
- 23:30Speaker 3: the one forty when he's won the you know, the MVPs,
- 23:32Speaker 3: but he was still pretty good. I mean, you take
- 23:35Speaker 3: Preller and the Putters from office off this list. They
- 23:37Speaker 3: just got extended, right. David Stearns, He's not going anywhere
- 23:40Speaker 3: anytime soon. I mean, I guess the heat would be
- 23:42Speaker 3: on Mandy. But you can't say David Searns, Carlos Mendez
- 23:44Speaker 3: in the Mets. I mean, David Searns isn't going anywhere.
- 23:46Speaker 3: He's only been there for two years. Aaron Judge and
- 23:49Speaker 3: the Yankees players, Okay, fair, they haven't won a World Series.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Judge as the captain. That's how you're measured. Dana Brown,
- 23:54Speaker 3: Joe spot in the Astros. I think they're both in
- 23:56Speaker 3: the last year of their contracts. So yes, there's some
- 23:58Speaker 3: heat on them, but they also have had to make
- 24:01Speaker 3: some moves because of payroll and the many Machado and
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Padres players. Padres do pretty well every year. You know,
- 24:07Speaker 3: they're in it. Every year they're in the hunt. But
- 24:10Speaker 3: they're getting older and they they're also what it gets
- 24:13Speaker 3: me about when you say players. If the payroll like
- 24:16Speaker 3: the Padres goes down and Preller is not allowed to
- 24:18Speaker 3: spend more money, why does more pressure go wan the players.
- 24:21Speaker 3: They're gonna go out and do the same thing, but
- 24:23Speaker 3: they might need reinforcements, Guys get hurt, they lose guys.
- 24:27Speaker 3: It doesn't make sense how you can say they're under
- 24:29Speaker 3: the most heat, like why because they need to play better.
- 24:32Speaker 3: You can't go out there and say you know this, KP.
- 24:34Speaker 3: You can't go out there and say, man, I really
- 24:35Speaker 3: need to hit fifty homers even though I hit forty
- 24:38Speaker 3: last year, because there's so much heat on us, Like, no,
- 24:40Speaker 3: they're gonna go out and do what they do.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, the Padres just happen to be in
- 24:45Speaker 4: a tough position in the division they're in, but they're
- 24:47Speaker 4: putting themselves in a position to get to the postseason
- 24:51Speaker 4: mostly every year. And yes, it would be nice to
- 24:53Speaker 4: see them kind of break through, But I don't see
- 24:56Speaker 4: a lot of pressure on Manny Machado in that group. Yes,
- 24:58Speaker 4: that core group has kind of been together for a
- 25:00Speaker 4: while now too, and they ultimately haven't, you know, won
- 25:03Speaker 4: a World Series. And I think that's how we're measuring
- 25:05Speaker 4: greatness of players and greatness of organizations. It just happens
- 25:08Speaker 4: to be a tough time to be of any organization
- 25:12Speaker 4: with what the Dodgers have been able to do, and
- 25:14Speaker 4: you know, with the Mets, I mean, I think that's
- 25:16Speaker 4: also an unfair pressure to put on David Searns and
- 25:19Speaker 4: their manager there too, because I think a lot of
- 25:22Speaker 4: that pressure is coming from, you know, Steve Cohen taking
- 25:25Speaker 4: over the team, you know, five years ago, we're now
- 25:27Speaker 4: six years ago and guaranteeing, you know, the Mets in
- 25:31Speaker 4: the city of New York is.
- 25:31Speaker 5: Going to bring a World Series champion.
- 25:33Speaker 4: So sometimes I think it's good to be very confident
- 25:37Speaker 4: in what you're doing. But you know, like ag you said,
- 25:40Speaker 4: it's it's hard to put this additional pressure on players
- 25:44Speaker 4: to go out and perform even better than they've already
- 25:46Speaker 4: performed because as players, we already have an amount a
- 25:49Speaker 4: lot of pressure on ourselves to go out and perform,
- 25:52Speaker 4: and no one puts more pressure on ourselves. They don't
- 25:54Speaker 4: need that extra push from, you know, someone sitting up
- 25:57Speaker 4: in that Ivory Tower.
- 25:58Speaker 2: There is not a list in the world that Aaron
- 26:01Speaker 2: Judge should be on AJ in terms of more pressure
- 26:04Speaker 2: on him. The guy was the American League MVP. What
- 26:08Speaker 2: else could he possibly do?
- 26:10Speaker 3: I mean, can be a break three time? By the way,
- 26:14Speaker 3: I'm saying, how could.
- 26:15Speaker 2: You even be on a list of having more?
- 26:17Speaker 3: What else could just because they haven't won a World Series.
- 26:19Speaker 3: That's it just but it actually shouldn't been Ryan Cashman
- 26:23Speaker 3: and Aaron Boone and in the front office.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it should be. It should be Cashman and Boone,
- 26:28Speaker 2: not Aaron Judge.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Aaron Judge, what pressure is. All he does is go
- 26:31Speaker 3: out and competing. And you know what he also did
- 26:33Speaker 3: last year Alana for the first time. He performed in
- 26:35Speaker 3: the postseason last year for the first time. So you
- 26:37Speaker 3: can't even begin to throw Aaron Judge on this list. Now,
- 26:40Speaker 3: you want to put some other players on that list, Fine,
- 26:42Speaker 3: Anthony Volpi maybe is under some pressure Stanton to stay healthy, right,
- 26:47Speaker 3: I mean, there's some other guys you could probably throw
- 26:49Speaker 3: on that list. But to put Aaron Judge on that list,
- 26:52Speaker 3: I mean that team, they're the same team they were
- 26:54Speaker 3: last year pretty much. They've admitted it, and they think
- 26:56Speaker 3: they have a championship caliber team. Aaron Judge is gonna
- 26:59Speaker 3: do what he does every year, or if he's healthy,
- 27:01Speaker 3: and let's go out and hit three hundred plus and
- 27:03Speaker 3: hit fifty homers and probably win an MVP. So yeah,
- 27:07Speaker 3: that's that's this is unbelievable. He's even on this list.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I mean, he even said that he was surprised that
- 27:11Speaker 2: the Yankees didn't make more offseason moves. He said what
- 27:14Speaker 2: everybody else was thinking. He is a captain by definition.
- 27:17Speaker 2: In terms of the managers, guys who were specifically mentioned
- 27:20Speaker 2: as having pressure on them, Kurt Suzuki of the Angels
- 27:25Speaker 2: received the most votes in terms of this list, five votes.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Tony Vittello, the new manager of the Giants, Mendy of
- 27:30Speaker 2: the Mets, Rob Thompson of the Philadelphia Phillies, Aaron Boon.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Of course, the Yankees are always on this list. I
- 27:37Speaker 2: get that, and then Oliver Marmole of the of the Cardinals.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Let's start with Kurt Suzuki, though first time manager. Obviously,
- 27:43Speaker 2: catchers become oftentimes catchers become good managers. They're good managers
- 27:48Speaker 2: for a reason. Kurt Suzuki, though, think about what's around him.
- 27:51Speaker 2: We just had the conversation KP of Artie Moreno, not
- 27:55Speaker 2: expecting to win. It's not in his top five in
- 27:58Speaker 2: terms of priority. I almost feel like it's already at
- 28:02Speaker 2: a disadvantage for Suzuki. And by the way, they only
- 28:05Speaker 2: gave him a one year contract. I mean, what does
- 28:06Speaker 2: that say to you?
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I wish Whoever voted on. This wasn't anonymous, and
- 28:12Speaker 4: we could see who's voting on these players, Like, how
- 28:15Speaker 4: is Kurt Suzuki under any pressure except for the fact
- 28:18Speaker 4: that he has a one year deal and if it
- 28:20Speaker 4: doesn't work out, he'll probably go back and resume his
- 28:22Speaker 4: role as special assistant. It's hard to put a pressure
- 28:26Speaker 4: on a manager when we've talked about being part of
- 28:28Speaker 4: an organization that clearly doesn't value winning. So I don't
- 28:31Speaker 4: understand the pressure on him. You know, I can understand
- 28:34Speaker 4: the pressure a little bit on Tony Vitella, just coming
- 28:36Speaker 4: from the college game, and we haven't really seen a
- 28:38Speaker 4: manager go from a powerhouse in college directly to the
- 28:41Speaker 4: major league, so, you know, unfairly, maybe he has a
- 28:44Speaker 4: little bit of a target on his back. And if
- 28:46Speaker 4: you go down the list, obviously those are teams that
- 28:47Speaker 4: are expected to win right now, and there's always pressure
- 28:51Speaker 4: on managers when you're part of organizations like the Yankees,
- 28:54Speaker 4: the Mets, teams that are expected to win right now,
- 28:57Speaker 4: the Phillies. You know, I can understand some of those.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Kurtszuzuki to be at the top of that list just
- 29:02Speaker 4: seems very odd to me.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Well, here's sorry, no, here's The thing about Kurtzuzuki being
- 29:10Speaker 3: on top of this list, right, Kurtszuzuki has a one
- 29:12Speaker 3: year deal and Ardie Marainer just says he doesn't care
- 29:14Speaker 3: about winning, So what pressure is there on Kurtszuki. He
- 29:17Speaker 3: goes on one sixty two and be like, boss, you
- 29:20Speaker 3: just told me you don't care if we win any games.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So as long as people have fun and get to
- 29:23Speaker 3: go cheap, then why does it matter if I win
- 29:25Speaker 3: or lose? So there's no pressure on Kurtzuk. I promise you.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Kurtszuzuki is not feeling pressure. He's feel pressure because he
- 29:30Speaker 3: wants to do well for himself. He wants to do
- 29:32Speaker 3: right for the players, and he wants to do right
- 29:34Speaker 3: for the Angels fans. But he's not feeling pressure because
- 29:37Speaker 3: anybody else is putting him on. As far as Tony Vaitello,
- 29:40Speaker 3: he's got a nice contract, he's got a nice deal.
- 29:43Speaker 3: The pressure on him is just to prove that what
- 29:46Speaker 3: people are saying that a college coach can't just jump
- 29:48Speaker 3: from college to the big league. So I don't know,
- 29:51Speaker 3: I don't agree with this list. I mean, Carlos Mendoza,
- 29:54Speaker 3: you manage in New York guess what. There's pressure. Rob Thompson,
- 29:56Speaker 3: you're managing Philadelphia. There's pressure. Aaron Boone, you managing and
- 30:00Speaker 3: Oli Marmal. The only pressure is is they have Yati
- 30:03Speaker 3: Molina in their front office in a whole new regime.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So they're not supposed to win anyways this year. So
- 30:08Speaker 3: what pressure is on him if if they let him go.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I think he's at the last year of his contract too,
- 30:12Speaker 3: So if they let him go, he's like, Okay, guys,
- 30:15Speaker 3: I did what you wanted. I got you through the
- 30:17Speaker 3: rough times. And then they bring in someone else. I mean,
- 30:19Speaker 3: this is an interesting list. I would there's never any
- 30:22Speaker 3: pressure on managers. I mean you want pressure on managers.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I would look at like aj Hinch, Right, Tigers are
- 30:28Speaker 3: supposed to be really good. He's a veteran guy, he's
- 30:30Speaker 3: been around. Just don't mess it up, right, even here
- 30:33Speaker 3: Dan Wilson with the Marriners, just don't mess it up.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Let the players go play, be yourself and don't mess
- 30:38Speaker 3: it up.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I was gonna say, you know, those
- 30:42Speaker 4: two managers, you could throw John Snyder in there. You
- 30:44Speaker 4: obviously have a ton of success last year. Can you
- 30:47Speaker 4: back it up? But ultimately it comes down to the players.
- 30:49Speaker 4: But to your point, just be the same guy you were,
- 30:52Speaker 4: deliver the same message. Let your players go out and play,
- 30:55Speaker 4: don't mess it up. And then if I was, you know,
- 30:58Speaker 4: to kind of just throw out a random there. I mean,
- 31:00Speaker 4: I would imagine there's got to be a little bit
- 31:02Speaker 4: of pressure on a guy like Skip Schumacher just because
- 31:05Speaker 4: of the shoes he's filling with Bruce Bochi And I
- 31:07Speaker 4: know last year didn't go as well as they wanted,
- 31:09Speaker 4: but he did. Bruce Bochi did lead them to their
- 31:12Speaker 4: one and only World Series championship. He's a Hall of
- 31:14Speaker 4: Fame manager stepped away. You know, those are kind of
- 31:17Speaker 4: big shoes to fill.
- 31:20Speaker 2: What about Kurt Stammon. Why is he not on the.
- 31:22Speaker 3: List because he's in San Diego? It's the first year guy.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Again for me, the first year guys, there's no pressure
- 31:29Speaker 3: on him other than just not completely. You know when
- 31:32Speaker 3: pull a Gabe Kapler when he wanted the writing and
- 31:34Speaker 3: he put up his left hand right like what, this
- 31:36Speaker 3: is their first year as a manager. You're gonna make mistakes.
- 31:39Speaker 3: There's not press The only pressure is what you put
- 31:40Speaker 3: on yourself. I'm sorry, I mean Alex Corr does he
- 31:43Speaker 3: have pressure on him Craig Counsel with his team. Those
- 31:46Speaker 3: are the guys that are veteran guys that have been
- 31:48Speaker 3: around and done it. When you're in your first year,
- 31:50Speaker 3: you can make mistakes and be like, look, guys, is
- 31:52Speaker 3: my first year. I'll learn from it. But when you're
- 31:54Speaker 3: Craig Counsel making eight million dollars a year with the
- 31:55Speaker 3: Cubs team that's expected to win, that's when the pressure
- 31:58Speaker 3: should be ramped up. Not these first year guys, the
- 32:00Speaker 3: first guys. Whatever weiss in there.
- 32:05Speaker 4: I mean, he's he's stepping into, you know, filling some
- 32:07Speaker 4: big shoes too, and obviously he's had some history managing
- 32:10Speaker 4: before and it's his second go around. I mean I
- 32:12Speaker 4: feel like a guy like that would be a little
- 32:14Speaker 4: bit more justified on this list as opposed to some
- 32:16Speaker 4: of these names we saw. So hopefully some of these
- 32:19Speaker 4: people that voted will will not be anonymous and and
- 32:22Speaker 4: you know, you know, put their name next to their
- 32:24Speaker 4: votes so we can maybe understand a little bit better
- 32:27Speaker 4: or why they chose who they chose.
- 32:29Speaker 3: KP.
- 32:30Speaker 2: How big of a learning curve do you think Matello
- 32:31Speaker 2: is going to have? I mean, yes, I understand it's
- 32:33Speaker 2: the same game, but it's at a completely different level.
- 32:35Speaker 2: It's not like he recruited these guys, right, I mean,
- 32:37Speaker 2: this is his team. I know that they've surrounded him
- 32:39Speaker 2: with some very smart people to help him along the way.
- 32:42Speaker 2: But how hard how hard of a first year do
- 32:45Speaker 2: you think he'll have?
- 32:46Speaker 4: I mean from everything that I've been hearing out of
- 32:48Speaker 4: Scottsdale that the players love this guy.
- 32:51Speaker 5: He brings such great energy, he brings such great.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Vibes, And honestly, that's kind of the biggest thing you
- 32:57Speaker 4: can want out of a manager is communication. You know,
- 33:00Speaker 4: does he put off good vibes? Does he put off
- 33:02Speaker 4: good energy? And obviously there is the in game adjustment,
- 33:04Speaker 4: but he's surrounded by great people. He has a great
- 33:06Speaker 4: staff around him. And Yeah, the biggest challenge he is
- 33:10Speaker 4: going to face, and he's openly talked about it, is
- 33:13Speaker 4: in college, you're only playing three or four games potentially
- 33:16Speaker 4: in a row. You can go to your best guys
- 33:18Speaker 4: in the bullpen very often. Learning how to kind of
- 33:20Speaker 4: manage a bullpen is always going to be the biggest
- 33:22Speaker 4: challenge for someone going from the college game to the
- 33:25Speaker 4: big league game, because it's hard to go to your
- 33:28Speaker 4: best guys every single game when you're playing, you know, fifteen, sixteen,
- 33:31Speaker 4: seventeen games in a row. But everything I've heard from
- 33:33Speaker 4: there is he's an incredible guy. He's an incredible leader.
- 33:37Speaker 4: He makes baseball fun, He gets out there interacts with
- 33:40Speaker 4: the guys. That communication has been great and I'm looking
- 33:43Speaker 4: forward to watching him.
- 33:44Speaker 2: There's another list too, in terms of front offices managers
- 33:47Speaker 2: under pressure. The Mets the most, the Royals the least.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Well.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I guess the Royals tie with the Red Sox, the Rookies,
- 33:53Speaker 2: the Rookies. They should be the Rookies, the Rockies, Cardinals,
- 33:57Speaker 2: and the Royals. I think the Red Sox guys should
- 33:59Speaker 2: be a little bit higher than this. I mean, the
- 34:02Speaker 2: Red Sox didn't do a ton as far as the offseason.
- 34:05Speaker 2: I guess not if you listen to their fan base.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Should the Red Sox be higher than this? AJ? Are
- 34:10Speaker 2: you okay with where they rank?
- 34:12Speaker 3: I guess on this list, I think Red Sox fine
- 34:17Speaker 3: because Alex Cora, they love Alex Cora. Preslo is fairly new.
- 34:21Speaker 3: I think they're fine. The Red Sox have changed. It
- 34:24Speaker 3: used to be a lot of pressure in Boston. Now
- 34:25Speaker 3: they're the Red Sox. They just I don't know. It's
- 34:29Speaker 3: different up there. Now you live up there, Alona, you
- 34:31Speaker 3: know it's different. It's not as pressure packs. And they've
- 34:33Speaker 3: won those World Series that it used to be.
- 34:47Speaker 2: All right, kp so, a long time umpire is hanging
- 34:51Speaker 2: up the spikes. Major League Baseball announcing that Phil Couzzy,
- 34:54Speaker 2: who umpired for twenty seven years and memorably for Mets fans,
- 34:59Speaker 2: ejected Max Are for the sticky stuff remember back in
- 35:02Speaker 2: twenty twenty three. He is retiring. So is Mark Carlson,
- 35:06Speaker 2: who for twenty six plus years and will now evaluate
- 35:10Speaker 2: and train umpires for the league. Do you have any
- 35:12Speaker 2: Phil Pezzy stories or Mark Carlson stories that you want
- 35:15Speaker 2: to share.
- 35:16Speaker 5: No, you know, it's a weird thing.
- 35:18Speaker 4: As an outfielder, you don't get to know the umpires
- 35:21Speaker 4: as well as obviously someone like aj who's who's back
- 35:24Speaker 4: there with them every single day. It's more of a
- 35:27Speaker 4: passing relationship unless you've had kind of like a heated
- 35:31Speaker 4: moment with him at the plate. I didn't really get
- 35:33Speaker 4: to know him. I'm that well obviously know who both
- 35:36Speaker 4: of those guys are.
- 35:37Speaker 5: But congrats on a great career.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Obviously with the the you know, the challenge system coming in.
- 35:44Speaker 4: You know, it might be a good time for some
- 35:45Speaker 4: of these umpires that have done it for a long
- 35:47Speaker 4: time to get out. But twenty six and twenty seven
- 35:50Speaker 4: years of you know, traveling around and umpiring as long
- 35:54Speaker 4: as they did, and you know the wear and tear
- 35:56Speaker 4: on their body is real too.
- 35:58Speaker 5: So congrats.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Ohly shit, all right, I don't care what y'all did.
- 36:01Speaker 3: My son just hit a homer. Oh so, I don't
- 36:04Speaker 3: really give a shit. Sorry, his first hit in college baseball.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I don't even know I missed it. I was listening,
- 36:10Speaker 3: I was talking to Cal Rawley. Maybe he rubbed off
- 36:12Speaker 3: on him. I don't know he did.
- 36:14Speaker 5: He definitely did.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I literally I literally didn't even my I thought the
- 36:17Speaker 3: game started at one here, and my mom just text
- 36:21Speaker 3: me and goes, it's on, and then I turn it
- 36:23Speaker 3: on and my son's round on the basis circle on
- 36:25Speaker 3: the police.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Congratulations. I'm sorry that you missed it, but that that
- 36:28Speaker 2: is awesome. What do you have any stories a j
- 36:31Speaker 2: or do you just want to go and watch your kid?
- 36:34Speaker 3: Who? I know, Phil Couzy, who was the other one.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Party Carlson, Mark Carlson.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, They're both are great. Uh, Listen, because he
- 36:41Speaker 3: was a New Yorker, he had that New York attitude, right,
- 36:43Speaker 3: so there was times where we would go at it.
- 36:46Speaker 3: But I was also from New York, so I tell
- 36:48Speaker 3: people when I need it and we'd kind of go
- 36:50Speaker 3: at it. But in Carlson, I never had a problem
- 36:52Speaker 3: with Carlson because he every once in a while would
- 36:54Speaker 3: go at it just because he's from New York and
- 36:56Speaker 3: he'd get that attitude. But listen, congratulations on a great
- 36:59Speaker 3: career for both of him. I had you guys both
- 37:01Speaker 3: for a long time, so I'm super excited.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I had a question for you in the spirit
- 37:07Speaker 4: of the conversations we've had earlier. I'm looking at this
- 37:10Speaker 4: jersey in my office here. I got a Mark Burley jersey.
- 37:14Speaker 4: What did he need when you came out to the
- 37:16Speaker 4: mound when you talked? Nothing he needed to be coddled,
- 37:18Speaker 4: or he need to be yelled at, or you probably
- 37:20Speaker 4: didn't go out there too much.
- 37:22Speaker 3: No, he wondered, you know what. I would go out
- 37:24Speaker 3: to the mount with Mark Burley sometime. I mean never
- 37:27Speaker 3: never did I yell at him, because I was never
- 37:28Speaker 3: just gonna yell at him. You know what I got
- 37:30Speaker 3: on Mark Burley. Most of the time I told him
- 37:31Speaker 3: a joke, or you would talk about something that was
- 37:34Speaker 3: going on, like hey, how about where are we going
- 37:36Speaker 3: to dinner tonight? There was never ever like any other stuff.
- 37:39Speaker 3: It was where are we going to dinner? What are
- 37:41Speaker 3: we doing? Blah blah blah blah blah. So it was
- 37:43Speaker 3: never it was never like what am I gonna do?
- 37:45Speaker 3: Yell at Mark Burley, Hey Burley, you suck. You're only
- 37:47Speaker 3: throwing eighty five? Like no, Like, dude, that's what he throws.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Did you get it? You've seen a replay?
- 37:56Speaker 4: Have you seen a replay of the home run yet?
- 37:58Speaker 3: I just watched it too. Oh, get the tape out,
- 38:02Speaker 3: I love you.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Got the head out and hit it to the pull side.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Yep, finally.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 38:10Speaker 3: All right, Sorry, I got a little excited here.
- 38:12Speaker 2: All right, you love it? All right. Another bit of
- 38:15Speaker 2: news here, Ken Rosenthal reporting that free agent Infield of
- 38:18Speaker 2: Ramonte Ureus is in agreement with the Cardinals on a
- 38:20Speaker 2: one year, two million dollar contract salary of a million
- 38:23Speaker 2: and a half in twenty twenty six, five hundred k
- 38:25Speaker 2: buyout in twenty twenty seven. Mutual option. Deal also includes
- 38:29Speaker 2: two million incentives based on plate appearances. So there's a
- 38:34Speaker 2: little bit of news there for the Cardinals. But I
- 38:36Speaker 2: think both of you are in agreement that the Cardinals
- 38:40Speaker 2: don't have much of a run in the Central this year. KP.
- 38:42Speaker 2: We'll start with you no.
- 38:44Speaker 4: And you know, unfortunately, for a guy like that who's
- 38:47Speaker 4: probably deserving of being on a major league roster, you
- 38:50Speaker 4: know how to sit out and wait his turn, and
- 38:52Speaker 4: you know, with Brandon Donovan being traded, it opened up
- 38:54Speaker 4: an opportunity for him, so good.
- 38:56Speaker 5: For him signing a big league deal.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Cardinals probably not going anywhere this year. So you know,
- 39:02Speaker 4: when you are a guy like that who takes an
- 39:05Speaker 4: opportunity with a team that's not expected to go anywhere,
- 39:08Speaker 4: you just try to go on and perform the best
- 39:09Speaker 4: you can do, and you know, hopefully you become valuable
- 39:12Speaker 4: at the trade deadline and get a chance to play
- 39:14Speaker 4: for a contending team, and that's just a kind of
- 39:16Speaker 4: a way to prolong your career.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I want to say a very special thank you to
- 39:21Speaker 2: the Seattle Mariners. AJ has been there all morning long,
- 39:25Speaker 2: but they have been so unbelievably accommodating. It has been unbelievable.
- 39:29Speaker 2: The amount of guys that we got on this show
- 39:32Speaker 2: has really been impressive, and for them to take out
- 39:35Speaker 2: the time to do that for us has been so great.
- 39:38Speaker 2: We love hearing from players, So thank you Mariners PR staff.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Thank you to everybody there at the facility for treating
- 39:44Speaker 2: Foul Territory as well as you did. Alex from their
- 39:47Speaker 2: PR team, thank you, thank you, thank you. We cannot
- 39:50Speaker 2: tell you how much we appreciate. It makes our show
- 39:52Speaker 2: so much better when we have the players on. Don't forget, guys.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Yesterday we were at Dodgers camp and we had an
- 39:58Speaker 2: exclusive sit down with Roberts. It was myself, Katie Wu,
- 40:02Speaker 2: Clint Pascius, Dave took us through the World Series. He
- 40:05Speaker 2: took us through Game one and six and seven specifically,
- 40:08Speaker 2: and kind of also talked about turning the page to
- 40:10Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. So don't forget to check that out.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But it's been good to be with you guys. Aj
- 40:17Speaker 2: and you guys are at Rangers camp tomorrow and then
- 40:21Speaker 2: the calendar continues fast and I'll bringing you a Foul
- 40:26Speaker 2: Territory Spring training tour for the remainder of the time.
- 40:30Speaker 2: So for Kevin Palar, aj Przinski, aj Son the entire Mariners, everybody.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I'm Alanaizzo and for scot Raun Tricia and whit Marrorfield
- 40:38Speaker 2: tomorrow with aideway from Rangers. So take care, everybody. We'll
- 40:42Speaker 2: talk soon.
