- 0:08Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of the czeck O Deli. It's
- 0:12Speaker 2: Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com
- 0:16Speaker 2: and I'm back in Philly. It was a arduous and
- 0:19Speaker 2: really challenging ride back from New England last night. There
- 0:23Speaker 2: was torrential downpours really throughout my entire ride until I
- 0:27Speaker 2: got to about New Jersey. Didn't end up getting back
- 0:29Speaker 2: into Philly until about one five. Now I got caught
- 0:35Speaker 2: up at the Patriots Place. I wanted to get my
- 0:38Speaker 2: observations done, want to get the podcast done. Then of
- 0:41Speaker 2: course I had to stop at some of my favorite
- 0:43Speaker 2: places in New England on the way home to make
- 0:46Speaker 2: the most of the trip, and stop at Treehouse Brewing.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Had to grab a four pack to take back home
- 0:52Speaker 2: with me because you can't get that out here. And
- 0:54Speaker 2: I stopped at Modern Pizza again on the way home
- 0:57Speaker 2: in New Haven.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Because that was of the best piece I've had.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I had that on Tuesday when I was riding up
- 1:03Speaker 2: and I wanted to grab it on the way home,
- 1:05Speaker 2: so it wasn't alike. I had a whole lot to do.
- 1:09Speaker 2: The rain was there. I tried to allow it to
- 1:11Speaker 2: dissipate a little bit. That didn't happen, but nevertheless, I'm back,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and I wanted to kind of put a bow on
- 1:18Speaker 2: joint practices and understand that while training camp in the
- 1:22Speaker 2: summer is largely about the roster and how it's shaping up,
- 1:27Speaker 2: a lot of the back end players vying for spots,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and those are the fun story lines to chronicle, when
- 1:33Speaker 2: the regular season rolls around, it's going to be about
- 1:36Speaker 2: the stars and that's going to be the determining factor
- 1:39Speaker 2: as to how the Eagles perform in twenty twenty six,
- 1:42Speaker 2: and I don't want to lose sight of that. I
- 1:44Speaker 2: want to make sure that I highlight some players that
- 1:48Speaker 2: were standout performers in New England and really all summer long.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And we'll start with one player on offense, three players
- 1:56Speaker 2: on defense, and we'll start with Saquon Barkley, who I
- 2:00Speaker 2: thought had a really strong practice, especially on Day one
- 2:06Speaker 2: where running lanes were a little bit more prevalent. He
- 2:09Speaker 2: ran with good power and burst, and I thought that
- 2:13Speaker 2: he really brings a lot of energy to practice, so
- 2:17Speaker 2: you're forcing another team to match that energy. But Saquon
- 2:20Speaker 2: Barkley is someone who probably gets taken for granted a
- 2:23Speaker 2: little bit because he's such a marquee player, you know
- 2:26Speaker 2: what you're gonna get from him. To me, he looks
- 2:29Speaker 2: like the same player that he's been throughout his time
- 2:32Speaker 2: here in Philadelphia. Really good power, has good juice, and
- 2:37Speaker 2: caught the ball well. He's caught the ball well all
- 2:40Speaker 2: summer long. He's been effective on wheel routes and good
- 2:44Speaker 2: in space. I think this new offense is really gonna
- 2:47Speaker 2: cater to some of his strengths. I think he's taken
- 2:50Speaker 2: well to it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And he's had a good training camp.
- 2:55Speaker 2: You know, he's someone that when you watch him play
- 2:59Speaker 2: sometimes you just it's easy to lose sight of of
- 3:03Speaker 2: just how great he is and how effortless he makes
- 3:05Speaker 2: things look. But he gave the Patriots fits on day one.
- 3:09Speaker 2: On day two, running lanes were a little bit less frequent,
- 3:12Speaker 2: he got bottled up, much like Tank Biggs being will Shipley.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But he's someone that I really and I've noted this
- 3:19Speaker 2: on Inside the Birds dot com and my observations in practice,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I really admire the way that he attacks practice as
- 3:25Speaker 2: a veteran. Sometimes veterans tend to go through the motions,
- 3:29Speaker 2: and that's really in any sport, and that's not all
- 3:31Speaker 2: the time, but he goes one hundred miles an hour
- 3:33Speaker 2: at all times. He is not afraid to chirp a
- 3:37Speaker 2: little bit get after it. I thought that there was
- 3:40Speaker 2: going to be a little bit of a skirt.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Well, there was a.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Skirmish when he got tackled on a play that Lane
- 3:47Speaker 2: Johnson took exception two, and that happened on a far
- 3:51Speaker 2: field on the second day of practice.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But the way that he goes, he'll lower his shoulder.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I watched them on the last day before they left
- 3:58Speaker 2: for New England. He takes to carry to the side,
- 4:01Speaker 2: stretches it outside and lowers his shoulder on new cornerback
- 4:05Speaker 2: Isaiah Bolden.
- 4:06Speaker 1: He's done that at different points.
- 4:07Speaker 2: He lowered his shoulder on Cooper Dejunion at one point
- 4:10Speaker 2: just to remind everybody.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Who the big dog is.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And I think that that adds a lot of competitive
- 4:15Speaker 2: juices to practice. But I think Saquon Barkley's gonna have
- 4:19Speaker 2: a really big season. Everything that the Eagles do offensively,
- 4:22Speaker 2: at least in my view, is going to revolve around
- 4:25Speaker 2: the running game, and that's going to be their foundation
- 4:28Speaker 2: to a successful offense. That's you know, you look at
- 4:32Speaker 2: the different offenses in years past. When the Eagles have
- 4:34Speaker 2: really been able to move the football effectively, it's been
- 4:37Speaker 2: because of the running game, and I think having a
- 4:40Speaker 2: healthy Saquon Barkley and a healthy offensive line in front
- 4:43Speaker 2: of him really bodes well for them getting off to
- 4:46Speaker 2: a faster start offensively, even if it takes a little
- 4:49Speaker 2: bit of time for the passing game to gel and
- 4:51Speaker 2: I do expect that Saquon and that ground attack should
- 4:54Speaker 2: be able to navigate the interim while everything else kind
- 4:58Speaker 2: of falls into place. I just want to make a
- 5:00Speaker 2: mention there of Saquon Barkley because I've been impressed with
- 5:03Speaker 2: him throughout the summer and especially coming out of the
- 5:06Speaker 2: joint practices.
- 5:07Speaker 1: In New England.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Now on the defensive side, there are three players who
- 5:12Speaker 2: really caught my attention during this two day practice and
- 5:17Speaker 2: really throughout training camp. First and foremost being Jaylyx Hunt,
- 5:22Speaker 2: who was a standout performer in New England.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And I think.
- 5:27Speaker 2: While if you followed along with our coverage those of
- 5:29Speaker 2: us who cover the team regularly, that's not going to
- 5:32Speaker 2: be a surprise to any of you, But make no
- 5:34Speaker 2: mistake about it, he is the real deal, and I
- 5:37Speaker 2: think New England and their fans got a dose to
- 5:40Speaker 2: that because Jaylyox was just a disruptive presence, even more
- 5:45Speaker 2: so on day one. But he made some splash plays
- 5:47Speaker 2: on day two, and he had the force fumble where
- 5:51Speaker 2: he ripped it out of the hands of Ramandre Stevenson
- 5:53Speaker 2: recovered his own fumble. The other play was and you
- 5:57Speaker 2: probably have seen it now if you're paying attention to
- 5:59Speaker 2: X the Eagle put out the play that we've talked
- 6:02Speaker 2: about where Riek wohen is defending Aj Brown. The ball
- 6:07Speaker 2: kind of shoots out of AJ's grasp for whatever reason.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It's hard to tell from the angle, but it hangs
- 6:13Speaker 2: in the air for a while and Jay looks, Hunt
- 6:15Speaker 2: reads it, stays with it the whole way, makes an
- 6:17Speaker 2: incredible diving play. He just has natural ball skills. Obviously
- 6:22Speaker 2: that stems from his background playing safety at Cornell, But
- 6:25Speaker 2: keep in mind he hasn't played edge rusher for that long,
- 6:32Speaker 2: just really four or five years. Houston Christian is where
- 6:37Speaker 2: he really rounded into form and became an edge rusher.
- 6:40Speaker 2: But before that he didn't have any experience rushing the quarterback.
- 6:44Speaker 3: And so as I've gotten older, I've really tried to
- 6:48Speaker 3: concentrate on my physical health my body, making sure I'm
- 6:51Speaker 3: putting the right things in and the healthiest things in.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I've always heard about creatine, but I wasn't really sure
- 6:57Speaker 3: about using creatine supplements until I did the research to
- 7:01Speaker 3: find out what it was really all about. That's when
- 7:03Speaker 3: I found Momentous, which created Signature Spec Creatine, their most
- 7:08Speaker 3: advanced creatine ever, setting a new standard for creatine quality.
- 7:13Speaker 3: It's one of the only creatines to be manufactured in
- 7:16Speaker 3: a pharmaceutical facility using reverse osmosis water purification and verified
- 7:21Speaker 3: through an expanded six stage testing process with four independent agencies.
- 7:26Speaker 3: They've improved the product experience with ultrafine powder that mixes
- 7:31Speaker 3: effortlessly with no grit or clumping. Hey, look, I like
- 7:34Speaker 3: a good creatine shake in the afternoon, and it's got
- 7:37Speaker 3: to taste good and be smooth. The benefits of creatine
- 7:41Speaker 3: are very real. It supports strength, power, lean, muscle growth, recovery,
- 7:46Speaker 3: and even improve cognitive performance. And as I get older,
- 7:49Speaker 3: all of those things are so much more important to
- 7:51Speaker 3: me than they used to be. If you want to
- 7:53Speaker 3: try Momentous Signature Spec Creatine, head to Livemomentous dot com.

- 8:14Speaker 3: when I wake up in the morning. I have so
- 8:16Speaker 3: many things on my mind. I can't get any of
- 8:19Speaker 3: this done until I have my first cup of coffee.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I know a lot of you feel the same way.
- 8:23Speaker 3: You either need that coffee, that nicotine pouch, maybe even
- 8:27Speaker 3: energy drink to get yourself through the day. We go

- 9:55Speaker 2: You look at this player, and when he was drafted,
- 9:59Speaker 2: it was widely expected that he was going to be
- 10:00Speaker 2: a project.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That really hasn't been the case.
- 10:04Speaker 2: As a rookie, he ended up elbowing his way into
- 10:07Speaker 2: the three player rotation at edge rusher on the Super
- 10:10Speaker 2: Bowl team last year. He played a number of snaps
- 10:12Speaker 2: I don't have to rehash all that. I've talked a
- 10:14Speaker 2: lot about that, but let's talk about the here and now,
- 10:17Speaker 2: because what I've observed from Jaylox is that he is
- 10:20Speaker 2: much more refined as a pass rusher.
- 10:22Speaker 1: He has counter moves.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He's not going into any pass rush situation with the
- 10:28Speaker 2: predetermined outlook. He is able to adapt on the fly.
- 10:32Speaker 2: He gets a good feel for how offensive tackles are
- 10:35Speaker 2: playing him, and he can alter his approach based off
- 10:38Speaker 2: of that.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He has a more varied group.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Of pass rush moves in his arsenal, and I think
- 10:43Speaker 2: he's just become a very effective two way player. He
- 10:47Speaker 2: was always athletic, but now the technical refinement to his
- 10:51Speaker 2: game has caught up to the athleticism, and what you're
- 10:54Speaker 2: seeing as a player who's sort of coming into his own.
- 10:56Speaker 2: You can look at last year and say six and
- 10:58Speaker 2: a half sacks and three interceptions, twenty four quarterback hits.
- 11:03Speaker 2: That might constitute for some of you as a breakout season,
- 11:06Speaker 2: and that would be fair, but I think that he
- 11:08Speaker 2: has much more to offer. I'm not going to put
- 11:10Speaker 2: a prediction in terms of what I'm expecting from him
- 11:13Speaker 2: this year, but everything that we've seen suggests that a
- 11:17Speaker 2: full on breakthrough is going to be in the cards.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And I don't think it's hyperbole to say he's been
- 11:22Speaker 2: one of the eagles brightest stars in training camp, just
- 11:26Speaker 2: been a consistent presence each and every practice, and I
- 11:30Speaker 2: think it's important to make sure that I mentioned him
- 11:33Speaker 2: here as I have throughout the summer. The other player,
- 11:37Speaker 2: and this is important. It's someone who's going to factor
- 11:40Speaker 2: into the pass rush rotation and could take on a
- 11:43Speaker 2: more sizable role to start the year, depending on what
- 11:45Speaker 2: happens with Jonathan Garnard. If you listen to what Fake
- 11:48Speaker 2: Vangie has said, it was a little ominous. He said
- 11:50Speaker 2: he does have some concern as to whether or not
- 11:53Speaker 2: Grenard would be available for the opener. But Nolan Smith
- 11:57Speaker 2: has put together a pretty impressive training camp. I think
- 12:01Speaker 2: when you look at Nolan, you can see that he's
- 12:04Speaker 2: added definition and size to his frame, which compliments the
- 12:08Speaker 2: physical nature in which he plays the game. He's a
- 12:10Speaker 2: throwback player. He'll throw his body around. He's a violent edgsetter,
- 12:14Speaker 2: but he plays with an attitude. I think that he's
- 12:17Speaker 2: flashed a little bit as a pass rusher, even if
- 12:20Speaker 2: he hasn't necessarily gotten home with regularity.
- 12:22Speaker 1: In training camp, you can.
- 12:23Speaker 2: See the growth and the steps that he's taken in
- 12:27Speaker 2: that area of his game. And there's been a lot
- 12:30Speaker 2: of moments in training camp where yes, Jay looks Hunt's
- 12:33Speaker 2: been the standout, and I think it's important that no
- 12:35Speaker 2: one doesn't get lost in this because he's also quietly
- 12:39Speaker 2: had a good camp. He is someone that I'm expecting
- 12:42Speaker 2: to take on a much larger role this year, perhaps
- 12:45Speaker 2: even more as a leader, and.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He's healthy. That's what's most important.
- 12:50Speaker 2: He's healthy this summer and it just seems like everything's
- 12:53Speaker 2: starting to come together for him. I'm very much looking
- 12:57Speaker 2: forward to seeing what the twenty twenty six season has
- 13:00Speaker 2: for him, and in New England, we'll try to keep
- 13:05Speaker 2: it current here in New England. I thought that that
- 13:08Speaker 2: he really brought it there was you know, he's not
- 13:10Speaker 2: afraid to stick his nose in there. He's not afraid
- 13:14Speaker 2: to get after it and really bring the intensity. He
- 13:17Speaker 2: will stick up for his teammates take exception to things.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I just think that he's growing into a little bit
- 13:23Speaker 2: more of a leadership role and that can come in
- 13:26Speaker 2: different forms.
- 13:27Speaker 1: You don't necessarily always have to be vocal.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You can lead by example, you can lead with your
- 13:30Speaker 2: style of play on the field, And with Nolan, I
- 13:34Speaker 2: just get the sense that he understands that Jelyox has
- 13:39Speaker 2: really taken advantage of his opportunities.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Grenard's here.
- 13:44Speaker 2: They traded for Jalen Phillips last year, and he's battled injuries.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I think that there's a sense of urgency there with Nolan,
- 13:50Speaker 2: at least that's just my perception of it, based off
- 13:53Speaker 2: of how he's playing, how he's carrying himself this year,
- 13:57Speaker 2: and I think he's going.
- 13:58Speaker 1: To have a big season as well.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Maybe not to the degree of a jay loox Hunt,
- 14:01Speaker 2: but the Eagles are equipped to handle the interim if
- 14:05Speaker 2: Jonathan Grenard is not ready for Week one because of
- 14:07Speaker 2: what I've seen from jay Loox Hunt and Nolan Smith,
- 14:10Speaker 2: and also to a lesser degree, Arnold Abacaty and aj Epinessa.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Ebiccady is someone who's flying under the radar a little bit.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He stood out to me.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Number seventeen has entered my notebook on more than a
- 14:22Speaker 2: few occasions. He set the edge well, he has some
- 14:25Speaker 2: good juice. Epinessa is learning on the fly to do
- 14:28Speaker 2: some different things that he hasn't been asked to do
- 14:30Speaker 2: in his career. But the sense that I get from
- 14:32Speaker 2: listening to Fic Fangio speak about him is that he's
- 14:35Speaker 2: coming along nicely. He's encouraged with what he's seen from him,
- 14:39Speaker 2: and epinessa gives you a different dimension, a different body
- 14:42Speaker 2: type from that position, So I think they have enough
- 14:44Speaker 2: there to be able to navigate that because of everything
- 14:47Speaker 2: that I just outlined.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Nobody loves grilling more than me. Could be thirty degrees
- 14:53Speaker 3: and I'll be out there grilling burgers and steaks. But
- 14:55Speaker 3: the one thing that I really can't stand is losing
- 14:58Speaker 3: my fish and my because they just can't grill without
- 15:02Speaker 3: falling through. That's why I've been using Xclad's BBQ collection.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It's bringing hybrid technology outdoors with products specifically designed to
- 15:12Speaker 3: make grilling easier, especially when you're cooking foods that normally
- 15:15Speaker 3: don't cooperate on a traditional grill. The Hexclad BBU Grill
- 15:19Speaker 3: Plan combines the seering power of stainless steel, the durability
- 15:23Speaker 3: of cast iron, and the convenience of nonstick all in

- 15:30Speaker 3: grill topper that gives you even more control when you're
- 15:33Speaker 3: cooking delicate foods like veggies or seafood, or if you're
- 15:37Speaker 3: cooking multiple portions at one time. Last week, I grilled
- 15:40Speaker 3: the best surf and turf my style, which is salmon
- 15:43Speaker 3: and ribs, and lost none of it because I used
- 15:47Speaker 3: Hexclad's BBQ collection. With over one million customers and more

- 17:27Speaker 1: Twenty one and up.
- 17:30Speaker 2: As we close things out, and this player is someone
- 17:33Speaker 2: who is an all pro, so he shouldn't be sneaking
- 17:35Speaker 2: up on anyone. But I had not only thought that
- 17:38Speaker 2: Zach Bond had a really good set of joint practices
- 17:40Speaker 2: in New England, but I also think that he's had
- 17:43Speaker 2: a really nice training camp, one that flies under the
- 17:46Speaker 2: radar a little bit. But when you talk about Zach Bond,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you're talking about the complete linebacker, and I think that
- 17:54Speaker 2: a lot of what Pick Fangio looks for is exactly
- 17:58Speaker 2: the Zach Bond's the prototype. Smart, instinctual, physical, tough and
- 18:05Speaker 2: can not only play the run effectively, he can rush
- 18:08Speaker 2: the quarterback if you need him to. And his range
- 18:10Speaker 2: in space really shows itself on those wheel routes. There
- 18:14Speaker 2: was one in New England where they tested him down
- 18:17Speaker 2: the far sideline with Ramandre Stevenson. Zach Bond ran with
- 18:21Speaker 2: him step for step, made a play on it to
- 18:23Speaker 2: break up the pass. And I think that when you
- 18:26Speaker 2: look at that, yes the range is impressive, it illustrates
- 18:30Speaker 2: the well roundedness of his game. But he also was
- 18:34Speaker 2: very physical and active in run support.
- 18:38Speaker 1: He was someone who was sniffing out things.
- 18:41Speaker 2: He brings an attitude to the defense where you can
- 18:46Speaker 2: see not saying it's chippiness, but you can see it
- 18:48Speaker 2: reflected in whether or not it's Trayvion Henderson who's taking
- 18:53Speaker 2: an outside run and Zach Bond's swarming onto the scene
- 18:57Speaker 2: to give him a nice thud out of bounds, or
- 19:00Speaker 2: whether it's some kind of friendlier banter where the Eagles
- 19:04Speaker 2: are doing this, uh, this catch circuit where you have
- 19:08Speaker 2: a defender standing behind an offensive player. They toss the
- 19:11Speaker 2: offensive player of the ball and they kind of run
- 19:13Speaker 2: through the gamut.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Well, there was one rep maybe ten days ago. I
- 19:17Speaker 1: don't know. Everything kind of runs together now, but.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Zach Bond's going against Britain Covey, and he shoves Covey
- 19:23Speaker 2: before the play, before the the his rep officially begins,
- 19:27Speaker 2: and then when Covey catches it and turns up field,
- 19:30Speaker 2: Bond's waiting for him and delivers a nice thud, taking
- 19:32Speaker 2: Covey to the ground.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And it was playful.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Of course, their their their friends, their teammates. Britain Covey
- 19:38Speaker 2: is one of the more beloved players on the team.
- 19:41Speaker 2: He just has an affable personality. But that's what Zach
- 19:46Speaker 2: Bond brings, and he's kind of a tone setter in
- 19:50Speaker 2: a lot of ways. But we talk so much about
- 19:53Speaker 2: Jeremiah Trotter Junior. What's Jehad Campbell gonna do in year two?
- 19:58Speaker 2: Why was he playing in the opener? And all those
- 20:00Speaker 2: things are very important, but let's not lose sight of
- 20:03Speaker 2: the fact that Zach Vaughn is a damn good football
- 20:06Speaker 2: player who has in every practice sort of risen to
- 20:12Speaker 2: his reputation of an all Pro where he will make
- 20:15Speaker 2: a play each practice that reminds you that this is
- 20:19Speaker 2: one of the great stories around the NFL. Vic Vangaio
- 20:24Speaker 2: saw in him that he could be an effective off
- 20:26Speaker 2: ball linebacker, and when you see him really just refine
- 20:30Speaker 2: elements of his game. He was really a special team
- 20:33Speaker 2: or an edge rusher with the Saints, but in Philadelphia
- 20:35Speaker 2: he's become just a premier player as an off ball linebacker.
- 20:40Speaker 2: And in New England, I saw an active player who
- 20:43Speaker 2: was rangy around the second level, who was sticking his
- 20:46Speaker 2: nose in there and really having a really good beat
- 20:50Speaker 2: on what the Patriots were trying to do in terms
- 20:53Speaker 2: of their run game.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Just a smart player. And I know.
- 20:56Speaker 2: That that's kind of know that goes without saying. It's
- 21:02Speaker 2: important for me to reiterate that because this is the
- 21:05Speaker 2: time of year where it's all about who's going to
- 21:08Speaker 2: make the fifty three, who's on the bubble, who's a sleeper.
- 21:12Speaker 2: But the players that I just mentioned have all had
- 21:14Speaker 2: really good training camps, and for me, it felt really
- 21:18Speaker 2: important for me to reiterate that and kind of go
- 21:21Speaker 2: back and give you a synopsis of what I've observed
- 21:23Speaker 2: from them throughout training camp. And I know that they're
- 21:27Speaker 2: not going to get a ton of work here in
- 21:28Speaker 2: the coming weeks, but they're going to be hugely critical
- 21:32Speaker 2: to the success of the twenty twenty six Eagles, needless
- 21:34Speaker 2: to say. And there is sort of an overview of
- 21:37Speaker 2: what I've observed from them, not only in Foxborough but
- 21:41Speaker 2: throughout the entirety of training camp. And that's the value
- 21:44Speaker 2: of being able to see them every day. You have
- 21:47Speaker 2: context and you're able to see the progression throughout the summer.
- 21:51Speaker 2: And with that, that's going to do it for this
- 21:53Speaker 2: episode of to check Odaily. I'm Andrew to Checko and
- 21:56Speaker 2: I'll catch you all on the next one.
