- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. It's a little dark out there.
- 0:30You're going to possibly hear some owls in the background.
- 0:33They've been going off all morning and that's why I'm out
- 0:36here standing on the porch of the garage before I actually
- 0:41start my chores and have the chickens out.
- 0:44I was hoping you could hear the owls because they sound so cool.
- 0:47Anyway, I want to talk to you about a quote from Thoreau, and
- 0:52this is one of his most famous quotes, and I'm going to read it
- 0:55exactly as it is so you can see it in its totality.
- 0:59On success. If one advances confidently in
- 1:03the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which
- 1:07he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in
- 1:13common hours. So let me reread that again
- 1:17because I thumbed it up at the end.
- 1:19If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and
- 1:22endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet
- 1:26with a success unexpected in common hours.
- 1:30Now, there's long been debate about the definition of what
- 1:34does success mean? And that's a very personal
- 1:37thing. And I think everybody has their
- 1:38own version of what does success mean.
- 1:41I mean, he defines it clearly. It's it's what you personally
- 1:45and view it as and intentional. It's very intentional, OK.
- 1:51It's not just about financial success, but it is an
- 1:55intentional success. Meaning am I, am I going after
- 1:59what I really want? So I was having a deep
- 2:02conversation with this about a client who's trying to figure
- 2:05out what his phase 2IN life is going to be when he leaves his
- 2:08very successful position. And we often debate these
- 2:12things, we often talk about these things.
- 2:15But he's really at the point now where he's he's thinking about
- 2:19like, you know, five years from now, he wants to be retired.
- 2:23And as he's going through this, he's thinking about how success
- 2:27he has now, which is great financial success.
- 2:32It's wonderful. And he is very fulfilled by what
- 2:36he does with the people that he works with.
- 2:39So he's thinking about, OK, well, how would I find that same
- 2:42level of fulfillment? And I keep bringing him back to
- 2:47the same exact thing over and over and over again.
- 2:50And he and he's because he still can't answer the question.
- 2:53And it's that one big question that you have to ask yourself
- 2:57when you're in the process of this is how you define success.
- 3:01So for me, I can tell you right now, my version of success is
- 3:05very different than most people because I have, without a shadow
- 3:10of a doubt, I have a very odd definition of it.
- 3:14I know that about myself. Wanting to farm and do that is
- 3:18not common. It's not what most people want.
- 3:21They think it's a lot of work and it is a lot of work, but is
- 3:24the work worth it? And to me, it's definitely
- 3:27worth, worth it. And I'm, I'm out here right now
- 3:30as I'm talking to you. I'm over here and I'm working,
- 3:33getting all the snacks ready for the chickens, getting them all
- 3:36the birds set up. Everything has a place and stuff
- 3:40that has to be done. And so I'm in here working on it
- 3:42while I'm talking to you. I don't think of that as
- 3:46something that is unpleasant work.
- 3:48I actually love taking care of it, but that's my version of it.
- 3:52So when you go back and you think about how he's telling you
- 3:58to pursue it, this is another part of the puzzle.
- 4:02You have to realize that you have to be bought into it.
- 4:06You have to be confident in your choice.
- 4:10When people commented on how hard this was going to be and
- 4:14was it, was I going to like it and all that stuff, and what are
- 4:17you going to do? I did not question what I was
- 4:20endeavoring because I had already imagined it over and
- 4:23over and over and over, and I imagined it with the work.
- 4:26I imagined enjoying it. I imagined the good stuff.
- 4:30So the idea that I would be completely and totally
- 4:35overwhelmed by it and not like it was not part of my belief
- 4:39system. It wasn't part of what I was
- 4:40going through. All I was doing was saying, I,
- 4:43I'm being realistic about this. So if you can make sure that
- 4:48you're thinking and imagining the success as you want it to be
- 4:53and you're consistent with it, you can get there.
- 4:56There's no question in my mind you can get there.
- 4:58I help people do it all the time.
- 5:01The it's not about that. It's it, it's not about the
- 5:04piece of it. That's like the tactical stuff
- 5:07because the work is is available if you're willing to do it.
- 5:12The work is out there. You can make anything happen if
- 5:15you're willing to do it, if you're willing to be consistent
- 5:17enough to do it. The consistency is the
- 5:20challenge. My friends and most people, they
- 5:23don't want to do the challenging stuff of being consistent
- 5:26because that's hard. Being consistent is hard work
- 5:29and it takes patience and it takes commitment.
- 5:33Believe me, I know because I'm consistent with things and it's
- 5:36hard. So ask yourself, am I willing to
- 5:39be consistent so I can get to those those unbelievable things
- 5:43and recognize that his quote is absolutely, you know, true.
- 5:49You will meet with a success unexpected in common hours,
- 5:53meaning what other people deal with.
- 5:56So I hope this helps you guys and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:00Have a blessed day, bye.
