- 0:38This is a call in show and every week we have some callers and
- 0:42what we're going to do, because these episodes have been getting
- 0:44pretty pretty long. So if they hit over that 2 hour
- 0:48mark, I'm going to split them in half.
- 0:49And that's what we did this week.
- 0:51This week is Part 2 of last week's episode.
- 0:54We're going to be talking about PvP, We're going to touch on a
- 0:57little bit of EVE comparisons. We're going to talk about new
- 1:00ships, we're going to talk about new gameplay, but most important
- 1:03of all, we're going to have fun. We're going to have a good time.
- 1:05So without further ado, let's get into it.
- 1:09I'm Jar Jar Jabroni and this is Opencoms Radio.
- 1:20The thing is though, Natalie, you say that I can't see it.
- 1:22You're absolutely right. There were time to let's let's
- 1:24talk about that first, because I was.
- 1:25Going to go in a totally. Different direction.
- 1:27You can make as much money as you need and work your way
- 1:31towards any ship in the game. They they were trying to cash in
- 1:35off of that nostalgia and that hype.
- 1:39Physical Physical mission boards.
- 1:42You really chalkboards because chalk.
- 1:46You really have to be careful about comparing to Eve.
- 1:49I've been thinking about it because I've made a lot of
- 1:51comparisons to Eve over the years because I played that for
- 1:53a long, long time. The the thing with Eve is, yeah,
- 1:59you know, it's a single Shard and everybody's on the same play
- 2:02space. But you have to remember they
- 2:04have 7000 solar systems, so we're not all clustered
- 2:08together. In.
- 2:10In, in, in a small play space. And if you've ever played EVE
- 2:14Online at at the highest level where it's alliance battles and
- 2:19you know, you're, there's like maybe 1500 to 3000 people in a
- 2:24system. They have this neat little
- 2:27technology called time dilation and basically everything slows
- 2:33down a second could take a minute, you know, and and the
- 2:38reason they did that is because the servers just couldn't keep
- 2:40up with it all, and they usually couldn't.
- 2:43Keep up even with time dilation. I had fucking crashes even on
- 2:47the. We've lost a few guidance that
- 2:50way in my. And that's what I was saying.
- 2:53All my years in EVE Online, the game, it was one of the few
- 2:59games that never crashed. I've never.
- 3:01Had the game crash, the server would crash.
- 3:03I've never had a server crash, I was never affected.
- 3:06By oh we did really doing in my Corp in some of the biggest
- 3:09battles and eve that I was in. And I played from 2009 off and
- 3:13on. Yeah, we lost a keep star
- 3:15because the server crashed. Well.
- 3:17Yeah, and I got to say I'm not, I'm not doubting you.
- 3:21I've just never had to deal with it.
- 3:23The the, the point being is that yeah, yeah, the most people that
- 3:26EVE Online ever had online was I think 50,000 at once in, in, in
- 3:31the, in the Western servers that you get because China has its
- 3:34own deal. And I think the most they ever
- 3:38had in a single system was close to 3001 of the big, big event
- 3:44battles that they had. May have been there and it
- 3:46crashed. I mean to your, to your.
- 3:49Point like if you look at Eve, that content, right, that living
- 3:55universe, the the the fact that they that they do have so many
- 3:58people, it's it's yes, there's 5000 systems, which we do need a
- 4:03lot more systems for that There's 7000 systems.
- 4:05So we do need that to to expand out and to be able to have the
- 4:08room for it all. But at the same time, like if
- 4:12Eve is a living system on its own, like they don't they don't
- 4:16rely on the amusement parks style game, which is what we've
- 4:22gotten. Yeah.
- 4:23I mean, like, like that's exactly it, right?
- 4:25Like. I mean, they have structured
- 4:27events in in MPCS they have. They have all that, too.
- 4:31Oh, yeah. But but you can't, you can't
- 4:33compare. But but we don't.
- 4:34And that's the thing, we really kind of don't.
- 4:37And and that's the, you know, they say they're building
- 4:40towards that now to be wonderful, but like, it's it,
- 4:44Eve is more geared towards that than anything else.
- 4:48Well, this may sound, this may sound a little mundane, but one
- 4:51of the most exciting things I heard at the Citizen Con was the
- 4:54fact that they were going to have these inner, inner system
- 4:58hauling missions and they were going to be MPC agitators that
- 5:03are going to be trying to stop you or something.
- 5:05Not on every mission, but if if they pull that off and it works
- 5:09well, that'd be super cool. Oh, you mean?
- 5:13Stuff like that, you know, and then all the people that don't
- 5:16want to, you know, that don't want to participate technically
- 5:20in, in, in PvP, they may have some, some outlet to, to do
- 5:27their game loop. But I, I, I think this whole
- 5:31idea that people don't want to participate in PvP in a, in a
- 5:35quote, UN quote sandbox game is kind of short sighted because
- 5:39that's what's going to happen when you're in a sandbox unless
- 5:41they have like some real big incentives.
- 5:45We were talking about this the other day.
- 5:47There was a group of us. And like, if, if you go to like,
- 5:51let's say Stanton's is like the Super secure zone and you do
- 5:56something that's against the law and you get caught and you get
- 5:59sent to jail. Well, you have to be in jail.
- 6:03It's not like you're going to like if you sneak out, like if
- 6:07you do the do the the the game loop where you break out of
- 6:11jail, that needs to take like a significant amount of time and
- 6:16be it already. Does.
- 6:17Well, not, not not really. I mean, once you once you get
- 6:22into that, once you do that loop of time or two, you can like
- 6:26like in all games, you, you know exactly which way to run,
- 6:30exactly where to jump, you know, I.
- 6:32Mean you're you're. You're in and out like fast and
- 6:38some people went. The last couple times I went to
- 6:40jail, I just went down, murdered a bunch of MPCS in the non comms
- 6:46zone and got all their loot and go and and turn it in and and
- 6:51got my sentence diminished and got out like within 1520 minutes
- 6:54or whatever it was. That's fast too, but it
- 6:58shouldn't be that easy. I think if you want to
- 7:00discourage bad behavior in safe areas, you need to make the
- 7:04consequences very high. So that way, what I'm saying is
- 7:09that players that want to not participate in high risk
- 7:13activities where they could become PvP D, they should stay
- 7:17in safe areas and the people that come into those safe areas
- 7:21to harass those people, they will have a very significant
- 7:25penalty at once they caught and that and then that way that
- 7:30reduces the the amount of people that are going to get PvP D.
- 7:33Hopefully if, if, if, if it's discouraged enough with
- 7:37something like that. And then the people that want to
- 7:40participate in PvP, they can go into those systems that are more
- 7:43hostile and more dangerous and they can deal with the
- 7:46consequences of being in those systems.
- 7:48But you know, I think even in the safest zones, even in, in,
- 7:53in Eve Online, in the safest areas, you can still get PvP.
- 7:58But do you think right now that we're at a point where they can
- 8:04change the way that jail works? Like sure, that's.
- 8:09Easy. OK, because I mean there's that
- 8:15scaredness that they have right, like like they, they, they are
- 8:18like with medical, right? They they, they go, Oh well,
- 8:20we've had medical. They gave it consequences.
- 8:23They didn't give a shit, right? They it has I didn't notice shit
- 8:27anything and but jail. OK.
- 8:32I mean like, like you can clearly tell that they didn't
- 8:34want to make it too expensive to respond because it already takes
- 8:38like literally 2 hours to mine something with the crew.
- 8:41But you get like, you get something like this with jail,
- 8:46you know? Are we at the point where if
- 8:48they made it so you can't mine your way out and if you log out,
- 8:56that time doesn't count? Like you actually have to serve
- 8:59it does that You think we're ready for that?
- 9:03If not now, then when? Yeah, I mean you.
- 9:06I think if not now that that's a perfect segue to for what
- 9:10Broccoli just said. If not, what now, then when?
- 9:13I think they should be throwing all the stuff to the wall and
- 9:16iterating on it. Now when it doesn't matter,
- 9:20break it, fix it, break it, fix it.
- 9:22I don't care. That's that's why I don't
- 9:24participate in the PTUI think it's I think they should just do
- 9:28it where all the players are, you know, learn and and if if
- 9:33they do nothing else, they will learn to to drilled into
- 9:38problems, figure out where the problem is and come up with a
- 9:42either a a temporary solution or the fix entirely.
- 9:46They need to be quick on their feet.
- 9:48If this is going to be a live environment, a live system, I
- 9:52would rather them learn it now, not when one point O releases
- 9:55and then all of a sudden the day one release is where 12 hours in
- 10:00the queue because something broke and nobody knows what's
- 10:02going on. And that's kind of the problem
- 10:05with having AP, like as you said, you don't participate in
- 10:08PTU. Why?
- 10:08Because it really doesn't quite matter.
- 10:11And and so that's kind of The thing is like if persistence is
- 10:15not really a concern and we're going to release patches all the
- 10:17time, why do we even have APTU? Well, I think persistence should
- 10:22be a concern and I think that should be constantly worked on
- 10:25and iterated on. You know, it's a big selling
- 10:29point in the, the Star Citizen universe.
- 10:31Is this this whole idea of persistence, right.
- 10:35So anytime something breaks persistence, I think it should
- 10:40be that should become like a, a, a big driver for a team to
- 10:46figure out, OK, what broke this? What do we do to fix it?
- 10:50And you know, they, they need to start doing that now, while
- 10:55they're still in development, as they're, as they're developing
- 10:58the game, they develop their tools to fix the game when it
- 11:01breaks because it will break. Let's, I mean, let's, let's be
- 11:04honest, you know, per day. How many?
- 11:07How? Many how many new games come out
- 11:10they want like big massive games that come out that don't suffer
- 11:15from some kind of like, you know, it seems like world ending
- 11:19bug almost on day one. Great.
- 11:23I'm going to say 3 you're. Going to throw a number out.
- 11:28It's a lower number. I'm going to make you name those
- 11:30games Pack Pack. Stations.
- 11:31Release which is an open world sandbox MMO and I mean it's not
- 11:36wide release yet they only had like 3 to 4 maybe 5000 people
- 11:40that had early access playing and everybody I didn't hear of
- 11:44any kind of major faux pas in in in that game, but I just can't
- 11:51get into another MMO. I would have loved to play that.
- 11:53That's right up my alley, that. Kind of.
- 11:55Was it a sci-fi game? No, it's like medieval fantasy
- 12:00sword and board, massive crafting and and building like
- 12:06it's a beautiful, very beautiful.
- 12:11Crafting, you say? Well.
- 12:12I. I still got to say you guys like
- 12:15if you did not play Star Wars Galaxies in its heyday, Oh, here
- 12:20we go of its genius mechanics. Honestly, when it when it was
- 12:25original and not not before Sony decided that they're going to
- 12:27copy Wow. But honestly, like it was a
- 12:30thing of beauty and it felt like a real world.
- 12:33But anyways, do you think that with OK, we saw that we had this
- 12:40big event, we had everything reliant on cargo elevators
- 12:45working right? It's it it, it kind of forced
- 12:50the devs to fix that shit immediately.
- 12:53And they they even said that like, oh, well, now we've got
- 12:55all the data we need. Do you think the PTU is slowing
- 12:58down development? No, I mean, does it maybe
- 13:04there's not enough pressure. I mean, this is what I'm no, no.
- 13:07Shot. No.
- 13:12I mean, you ever play a? Have you played a recent wave 1
- 13:14PTU? It's.
- 13:16A nightmare. I mean I have.
- 13:18Sucks. I've never been in.
- 13:20Nobody plays there. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:24Well, that's also break it. That's why they can't put it in
- 13:26because the game will be totally broken.
- 13:28These PTU guys, they suffer. Yeah, then fix it.
- 13:32They do. Yeah.
- 13:35Well, Speaking of suffering, this year we did maybe suffer a
- 13:38little bit with our ships. Only one kind of ship this year,
- 13:43Combat ships, but we did get a cool new toilet in the ship.
- 13:51If you could call it that you. Were you were the first person I
- 13:55thought of when I saw that. The rust bug, I know and I'm
- 13:58waiting till we're we might do a whole episode on the on the
- 14:01Knicks. The Knicks.
- 14:04The Knicks stewards repair gameplay or whatever, but let's
- 14:08talk about the Shiv. Did anyone get it?
- 14:11Anyone fly it? How do you feel about it?
- 14:13How do you feel about the ships? Let's go around, let's start,
- 14:16let's just go in order, baby hobo.
- 14:19What do you think about the Shiv?
- 14:21It's Drake but worse. Like pass.
- 14:27Interesting broccoli Rob, what do you think about the Shiv?
- 14:32Flies really well. It's got good weapons.
- 14:35It's I'm told it flies like an F7A but it's got an interior and
- 14:3932 SU cargo. Bucket.
- 14:44I like it. Lord Anubis, what do you think
- 14:46about the ship? It's bait they're going to make
- 14:50you actually, they're not really going to make you.
- 14:52Honestly, if you if you've been playing a long enough where
- 14:54you're going to consider buying a ship, you'll know that you can
- 14:58melt it and throw it into anything.
- 15:00That's what I intend on doing. It'll be the cool ship of the of
- 15:04of the next couple months and then it'll get changed because
- 15:07right now it seems like the perfect daily driver.
- 15:10Honestly, 32 car, 32 SCU cargo. You could fit your entire org in
- 15:16the back. It has the power of an F7A, the
- 15:18maneuverability in F7A. It it's it it is the end all It
- 15:24is the Connie Taurus of 32 SCU ships and it it's going to get
- 15:32nerfed. So just like play around with
- 15:35your store credits. Echo What do you think?
- 15:41What do you think of the Shiv? I like it.
- 15:44I agree it it'll eventually they'll they'll nerf it looks
- 15:47like in every other ship, but I like it even if they after they
- 15:51nerf it. I, I think it's a good, it's a
- 15:55good daily driver if, if you don't already have a large
- 15:58collection of ships and you know, it'd be a good, good daily
- 16:01driver. Wake it, you see the Shiv?
- 16:07Horse. What do you think?
- 16:09It's an abomination. Mm hmm.
- 16:11Thank you. How many more versions of the
- 16:16cuddy that? Was my first.
- 16:19Part. Thank you.
- 16:20How many more? Of it.
- 16:22I mean, I thought I'm giving us another cuddy.
- 16:25Look, look, you know what's coming next to me?
- 16:28That's very lazy marketing focused cash grab design.
- 16:32Let's throw more guns on it. Let's take some bits off another
- 16:37ship. Oh, it's easy it it won't take
- 16:39long to develop. It, but it's also a detached
- 16:41ship from Squadron. Yeah, this is not a.
- 16:44Reason. Yeah, Yeah, you're right.
- 16:46Yeah, you're right for wrong reasons.
- 16:48This is this is an old ship, actually, the ship's like at
- 16:50least. Six years.
- 16:51Old that they just well. I don't know the history of it,
- 16:54but that's the first thing I saw.
- 16:56It's like, oh come on, are you serious?
- 16:59Oh, yeah, there's another one coming just like it.
- 17:01Yeah, somebody found a video from 2019 that showed this one
- 17:04and another one. But I mean.
- 17:08Different altogether. We've got the cuddy black, the
- 17:12cuddy steel, the, the, the rescue, the the, the, the, the
- 17:17police thing. Right.
- 17:21The Shiv, That's five cuddies. I mean, you know, how do we even
- 17:26have that many Vanguards? Well, you got to.
- 17:29Actually, it's not actually a cuddy.
- 17:33It's a abomination. And until we start hitting
- 17:36double digits like the Hornet, I don't want to hear anyone talk
- 17:38about too many. Well, you have a point there.
- 17:41You have a point there. I mean, let, let, let, let's put
- 17:44it, let's, let's put it this way.
- 17:46You, you've got you, you've got, you've got upcoming gameplay.
- 17:51The Cuddy is a very expandable and versatile platform.
- 17:57I'm very excited that I know that I know that.
- 18:00Apparently some people over at WHO who were at an event during
- 18:06sitcom direct, I overheard some chatter while we were on chat,
- 18:12heard about solid and liquid waste being a thing.
- 18:15So the Cutty Brown as a transport ship is a possible
- 18:20thing, and I'm very excited for that.
- 18:22I do have insider information that I heard from John Crew
- 18:26personally. Modular toilets.
- 18:31Modular toilets, yes. Love the.
- 18:33Way how how, how was it hanging out with that dude?
- 18:38I didn't have much time with him honestly.
- 18:41I I was busy. They were good guys.
- 18:43But there was a bar Citizen. It was pretty cool.
- 18:46We spoke about real life things and and we didn't fanboy them
- 18:52and they were, they were good guys, just regular people.
- 18:55There was more than just John crew.
- 18:57John Crew and Ben Curtis and someone from marketing whose
- 19:01name I don't remember. Was it Amanda?
- 19:03Fortunately, I think so. That's the marketing chick.
- 19:08It was a chick and she should have been roasted.
- 19:10The market, the marketing woman is the one we've never seen.
- 19:13So we didn't even. Recognize the hell does that?
- 19:15Yeah, we didn't. Yeah, we didn't.
- 19:16We didn't really get a chance to talk to her that much.
- 19:18They're terrible. Marketing is terrible.
- 19:21They're awesome. They are excellent at their job.
- 19:25Yeah, they they seem to be quite good at their job.
- 19:27Marketing is amazing at a company like that.
- 19:30It's probably one of the most fun positions out there.
- 19:35Yeah. And it's like the other school,
- 19:37cool stuff. You just think of ways to like
- 19:40spread joy and get people excited.
- 19:42It's it's actually a really kind of a kind of a cool thing from
- 19:47their perspective. Trust me, they really do believe
- 19:50that they are trying to give you the world and they are.
- 19:53And you have to in order to in order to be a good at what
- 19:56you're doing in that in that position.
- 20:00Yeah, I mean, if you look at the screen right now, you see like
- 20:02the little peek, all the little goodies around there.
- 20:04It looks so cool. The shot collar, we're in the
- 20:07Wickelow's. He's got some like stavs and all
- 20:10kinds of like goodies in there. Stavs Stavs like sits in the.
- 20:16World for staff. Yeah, Stavs, Stavs.
- 20:21Stavs, Stavs. Stavs a a stave is something
- 20:25different. You can make a stav no.
- 20:28Stavs. No, I'm.
- 20:32Going. To I'm going to Google this and
- 20:34interrupt. Before no ask.
- 20:35Gemini, it's it's Staffs, you know?
- 20:39Whatever, if you ask an AI, it's whatever.
- 20:42If it's not my what I said, it's an hallucination.
- 20:44Don't trust it. It's an hallucination.
- 20:47Tell Claude. Yeah, tell Claude to ask Rock,
- 20:52and then Rock will ask ChatGPT, which will ask Meta.
- 21:01Then they'll all wake up, and then I.
- 21:03Forgot Cortana was a thing. It was a thing is it is this.
- 21:07It's not even an AI and you would think that.
- 21:11They would have done that. They wouldn't, he'd think.
- 21:12Well, now they. Have no they tried to ditch that
- 21:14branding now? They did fucking copilot, which
- 21:16is a little copilot. Yeah, fine, copilot, but you?
- 21:20Think they named it Cortana and use it.
- 21:22They keep trying to push that on me.
- 21:23They did have. But they made it look like her
- 21:26and just had her on your bed. Yes.
- 21:29Yes, duh. Jen Taylor is a wonderful voice
- 21:33actress. What JoJo?
- 21:36What did you think of the of JoJo?
- 21:39I don't, I don't like it. Well, I think, I think it's just
- 21:43another Cutlass and that bathroom is disgusting.
- 21:47Yeah, like going 0G with that bathroom.
- 21:50Just imagine. Right.
- 21:52Let's see. That's when, like, I love when
- 21:54they do things that look cool, right?
- 21:56Yeah, and we don't want everything grounded in reality
- 21:59because I mean, we're playing a space game with fast green light
- 22:01travel, etcetera. I want my shit ground.
- 22:03But it's like, yeah, exactly. It's like, I'm sorry, the toilet
- 22:07shouldn't be a literal shit bucket because the first, you
- 22:11know, turbulence or whatever, the first hard turn, you're just
- 22:15going to get shit everywhere, you know, give the lid doesn't
- 22:20make sense. It's.
- 22:20All I ask, like that's all you need to make it make sense, is a
- 22:23lid get. Some construction adhesive, you
- 22:25know, stick it to the floor and then give it a lid with like one
- 22:29of those little hooks to close it.
- 22:31Y'all, I've never met before, obviously, yeah.
- 22:36Look, it's just not for me. Yeah.
- 22:39Also I like all the ships but the ship is also.
- 22:42Not enough windows, never enough.
- 22:46There are, yeah, that is, that is a little disappointing.
- 22:49I need more windows every ship. All right, wicked, say that
- 22:54thing you said about looks again.
- 22:59You, you said something about looks and then I had a Segway I
- 23:01was going to use that. I don't even know what I said
- 23:04man, it's been 5 minutes. The New Evangel Stinger ship
- 23:12looks pretty neat. Yeah, OK.
- 23:17That's already been buffed. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:22It's been bombed for the earth. It's the movement has been
- 23:25buffed. Oh good.
- 23:27'Cause it was really slow. How much?
- 23:29Wait, how much has it been buffed?
- 23:31Percentages. OK, Yeah, look.
- 23:35Should I get it? Should I get it?
- 23:40Look, look at my username like, should I not get this thing?
- 23:43Look at it? Yeah.
- 23:45That, that, that, that. Glider I know.
- 23:49All right, should. I get it.
- 23:51Yeah, go for it. You should get it.
- 23:54It's so you should get it. And then let us all fly it.
- 23:56Yeah. I might think.
- 23:58Y'all want to ride the roller coaster?
- 24:00Is that what you? Is that what you're saying?
- 24:04Oh, now I feel. Before this gets weird, Yeah.
- 24:05All right, We're going to do one at a time.
- 24:07We're not going to do Anubis right now.
- 24:09He needs to calm down, maybe get a glass of water.
- 24:12Cool off, take a walk. Broccoli Rob.
- 24:16Broccoli Rob, you've been quiet. What do you think about the
- 24:18Stinger? It's fine.
- 24:22Heavy fighter, not really my thing, but alien ships are cool
- 24:26I guess. All right, Echo, what do you
- 24:29think about the Stinger? If you want to fly an HR Geiger
- 24:35ship then yeah go for it. But yeah, not my thing.
- 24:39I. Don't know what that means.
- 24:43The the alien, the guy that did the art for the Aliens movies.
- 24:48FIFA. Oh, OK, Yeah, I can.
- 24:51Tell you some of that, you say HR Geiger ship.
- 24:53I think I might be into it now, yeah.
- 24:55Yeah. I wasn't.
- 24:57I wasn't picturing that. But now I see it.
- 24:59Yeah, made it cooler. I like it.
- 25:03I like it, Hobo. What do you think about this?
- 25:05The Stinger. It's like Stingray, really.
- 25:07Cool. Yeah.
- 25:10Sounds cool too. Like I've heard the sounds like
- 25:11if you watch the scooter video, he kind of goes quickly through
- 25:15the aesthetics of it. He's like that's a spooky.
- 25:18He's like, yeah, you're right. It is.
- 25:20He is correct. It's essentially a living ship,
- 25:24so imagine having to clean up after that thing.
- 25:28Does it? Does it have waste?
- 25:32You can haul it away with the Cuddy Brown coming soon.
- 25:35Go ahead and buy it off of the Rs The Roberts Space Industry
- 25:39Store for $135 or Bond 150 if using store credit.
- 25:49Wicca. What do you think of the
- 25:49Stinger? It's not an ironclad, so no,
- 25:54thank you. Yeah, that was one of my biggest
- 25:57disappointments. I was hoping that they'd
- 25:59announced that they're going to release that.
- 26:01It's going to be Invictus, I believe.
- 26:05You think it's going to be this year?
- 26:07No, well, not this year. Only has two months left into
- 26:12it. Invictus is.
- 26:13The other next month, yeah. Yeah.
- 26:16But isn't there one big thing left this.
- 26:18Year. Yeah, IAE.
- 26:19IAE IE. Yeah, IE, IE, IE.
- 26:24In about a month, a month, In a week, six weeks, 5 weeks.
- 26:28We get the Perseus at that point, right?
- 26:30Yeah, should. I mean, that thing's going to
- 26:33change the whole Idris balance. I'm.
- 26:36Going to get one of them. I got chain.
- 26:41Interesting, So next patch what do we have for predictions next
- 26:45patch? Next.
- 26:48No, no. OK.
- 26:49But other other other than next patch will be during IAE.
- 26:55So other than next we're going to get some new ships.
- 26:58Always. We still have that one, that one
- 27:02ship that everyone was saying was the the consolidated
- 27:05Outland. Yeah, that one shadow probably
- 27:09get that that Perseus, the RSI starter.
- 27:16What about the one that looks like the Drake?
- 27:17Everyone says it's a Gray market.
- 27:21That's a that's a Gray market I. Guarantee it.
- 27:24Yeah, I could see it. It does kind of look more like
- 27:27the like the Caterpillar control module with like some Corsair
- 27:32wings on it or something now. The one cool thing that could be
- 27:36really amazing, this whole idea of this Grey's market and the
- 27:41abomination of the ship. Now what if part as they
- 27:48introduce engineering and crafting, we can do stuff like
- 27:52that. Like we can find pieces of ships
- 27:55and then reassemble them in whatever we want.
- 27:58No way there. May be a limit but that would be
- 28:01cool. Like you could take the, you
- 28:02know, engines from one ship, put them on another and so forth.
- 28:08But then they can sell us as many ships.
- 28:11They already sold us ships. They're going to sell us parts
- 28:13for ships. Might be a.
- 28:17Possible with Maelstrom I could see it, but that's a ways off.
- 28:22I mean, I don't mind the whole ship generating money principle.
- 28:29I mean, every single game out there right now has to survive
- 28:33by having a steady revenue, you know, I mean, it's just the way
- 28:37it goes. There's a huge infrastructure
- 28:41behind it and this is a living game.
- 28:43I mean, we call it an alpha, but this is a living game.
- 28:47So, you know, I, I like the fact that there are so many varieties
- 28:51and I don't begrudge them for that.
- 28:56No, no begrudging here. All right, all righty then.
- 29:01So did anyone else notice anything special about Citizen
- 29:03Khan that we didn't cover? No, but I did want to add 1
- 29:09quick thing engineering I didn't get to.
- 29:12I didn't get a chance to talk about this.
- 29:14OK. I'm incredibly excited about it
- 29:17because I do think it's going to force all of us to group up in
- 29:23these ships that we all fly around alone that have no
- 29:27business being flown around alone.
- 29:30And I think like when like we do group play in the Idris, a lot
- 29:35of us are just like kind of standing AFK in the hangar.
- 29:40I think that's done like we're now it's like, OK, get an ass in
- 29:45a seat, get to the engineering room, be ready.
- 29:48We might have problems. I want to be Scotty.
- 29:53I mean, you know, like fuck, dude.
- 29:55Like, like, it it, it, there has to be, I mean, it, it, I would
- 30:00consider this nonviolent gameplay.
- 30:01You're in combat, but you're not like engaging in combat with
- 30:05someone else. You're fixing things, you're
- 30:07saving lives, you're saving the day.
- 30:10And it it requires thinking and speed and maneuverability.
- 30:16And I think it's something thoroughly lacking from the game
- 30:20is, you know, a balance of the nonviolent versus the violent
- 30:25professions. Yeah, and even like with these
- 30:32interstellar trade missions coming in being like, we are
- 30:36going to send pirates after you. It's a part of the mission.
- 30:39Like the, you know, Star Lancer Max, you've been flying around
- 30:43with like 300 SEUI, Can't remember how much it is alone
- 30:47for so long. Like once engineering's in even
- 30:50running is not going to be just a one person thing.
- 30:54Like you're going to need to crew appropriately.
- 30:58That's Oh yeah, you're not running away in that ship.
- 31:03Or or any big ship that has a shit load of empty seats every
- 31:08time you're in it. Yeah, the interest should not be
- 31:13able to be. Flown will I mean, I hope you're
- 31:15right. I hope I I'd love to see that
- 31:17happen, but will it will that survive the Spectrum Warrior and
- 31:23the the salty tears of I want to play alone and I don't want to
- 31:27have to Groot. Yes.
- 31:30There's definitely, there's definitely gameplay that you can
- 31:32do alone, you just can't do it in your.
- 31:34Capital ship. Yeah.
- 31:39Well, I'm sure we'll hear an argument about why they should
- 31:41be able to. I mean, we've been hearing them
- 31:45for like 10 years now, so I'm sure, I'm sure they hopefully
- 31:49have covered everything but everyone, no one on Spectrum
- 31:53actually plays game anyway so it doesn't matter.
- 31:57I did have something that we didn't cover that I think a lot
- 32:01of people missed. So you know in the strike
- 32:04tactical or tactical strike groups that whole you're taking
- 32:08over the taking on the station and you got aboard the station
- 32:11to rescue the hostages, those hostages are NPCS.
- 32:20That's true, they did say that. You have There will have to be
- 32:23some way to guide NPCS to to do to interact with.
- 32:31NPC and tractor beam. I I think they'll want us to do
- 32:36something a little better than that.
- 32:40That might be the goal. I hope you're right.
- 32:42I hope that is not AI. Hope it's not the incapacitate
- 32:45and track. I mean, you're saying, you're
- 32:47saying passenger gameplay is on the horizon?
- 32:51It's gotta be like what? What do you do with these NPC?
- 32:53You're totally right. How do you handle them?
- 32:56They're injured. Maybe you need to have them in a
- 32:58medical ship. I there there's something there?
- 33:02No, they just run to an elevator and they disappear.
- 33:06Well, no, they need to get on the ship.
- 33:07That could be you. Want to know something
- 33:09absolutely crazy? Nintendo 1, the patent for
- 33:15basically NPC pets being able to command them to be able to do
- 33:19things and then they can independently operate with their
- 33:22own with their own devices, but be able to respond to your
- 33:28commands when needed. And they they literally won the
- 33:32patent to it so. So we can't put them in poker
- 33:35balls. Got it.
- 33:37Well, no, I mean like it. Tendo has generally is a threat
- 33:41to that. If you if if you look into this,
- 33:45Nintendo has some ridiculous patents on game technology and
- 33:49development. It's.
- 33:50Ridiculous SO. The passenger thing you're
- 33:54talking about hobo. Right.
- 33:56You need MPCS that need to be able to follow commands or
- 34:00interact or do to do more than just nothing or shoot them
- 34:06because that's what we always do with MPCS these days.
- 34:09So there's something there. I don't know what their plans
- 34:13are. They could just do a cop out and
- 34:15they just be all in capped already and you have to track to
- 34:19be a mom track to be in them onto the ship.
- 34:22But I don't know. They could do a dialogue wheel
- 34:26like an Oblivion. You got to tell them a joke.
- 34:30Wait here for them. I'm.
- 34:33Swollen to carry your bed and I. Was.
- 34:36Surprised today? I, I logged in for the first
- 34:38time in months and actually left Orson, got a ship, flew up to
- 34:44Seraphin, got out of the hangar, and as soon as I was walking
- 34:49from the Aesop terminals just to kind of walk around and MPC just
- 34:54walked up to me says hey, how you doing?
- 34:57I'd never experienced that yet. And.
- 34:59Didn't try to shoot him immediately.
- 35:01No, they oh, and and not not only that, they were walking
- 35:05around in pairs for some reason. I had never.
- 35:11Seen that options. I don't.
- 35:14I don't know. That's where the money is.
- 35:16Cyberbooks. Would be, would be interesting
- 35:20to see something like that to, to be able to have missions
- 35:22where you go and you help manage a crisis, you know, with NPCS,
- 35:28you know, hey, you go fix this. You go fix this and and.
- 35:32You go get you, Yeah. You know, or you show up to a,
- 35:37let's say, like a mining accident and you have to save a
- 35:41bunch of people. I mean, those would be wonderful
- 35:44missions to be able to integrate.
- 35:46And I'm hoping you know the best for that.
- 35:49It'd be a perfect use for case for AI and branching gameplay
- 35:53that depending on what the player does, it does different
- 35:57things. No mission is ever the same.
- 35:59That would be amazing. So yeah, NPCS that's, that's I
- 36:04think the, the, the shadow thing that I think a lot of people
- 36:07missed is there seems to be some intent for NPC interactions
- 36:13coming sometime next year. That's I, I think out of all of
- 36:22this, this entire time, the most exciting thing that has been
- 36:27brought up. And I think the thing that, you
- 36:30know, when we said no new things, I think that's there it
- 36:34is. Yeah, I was just re watching the
- 36:38live stream today because I didn't really get to watch it
- 36:41much on Saturday, but I saw that and went oh, huh, 'cause it's
- 36:49kind of a throwaway line that they use concept art for.
- 36:52Cause like at least half of that was like or quarter was like
- 36:55concept art. And I'm just like, huh, they're
- 36:58going to need something for that.
- 37:01I think, I do think they gave us quite a bit of stuff.
- 37:05I think they were just being low key about it.
- 37:07Yeah. Which is cool.
- 37:09Which is rare. Cause yeah.
- 37:12They they, they've. Anyone who's watching any
- 37:15Systemcon in the past is there's been lots of things said that
- 37:20years later. Yeah, we'll get there.
- 37:24I know, I know Duke was disappointed 'cause he had to
- 37:26fly so far. But.
- 37:28But he got to see us. Yeah, but next year you can just
- 37:32watch it on your phone. It'll be fine.
- 37:35I'll be there. There'll be an app.
- 37:37Montreal. Montreal.
- 37:41Yeah, AI generated. I was surprised they didn't
- 37:45really mention org tools. I think they mentioned it but
- 37:47they didn't show anything. What do you think that if if if
- 37:5142 gets released next year, do you think it'll be released with
- 37:54cynics.com Squadron? Yeah, Squadron.
- 38:01No, I think this year I think the holidays are gonna, they're
- 38:03saving their finale like their big content stuff of the year
- 38:07for the holiday. I think either IAE or Christmas.
- 38:14A holiday live stream again. No, no, I don't think that.
- 38:17I think they're just going to drop like a pretty solid patch.
- 38:21Like I, I know, I know they said no squadron at citizen Con, but
- 38:26you literally just, you literally just reminded me.
- 38:28I'm like, they didn't even address.
- 38:31I mean, is it, I guess it's, it's too early to get a date.
- 38:34You know, I really thought is, is Grand Theft Auto still up in
- 38:39the air or is there an exact date?
- 38:41For, well, that was delayed. There's an exact date for it.
- 38:45There is an exact date now. Let's see.
- 38:49There's another exact date. But in May.
- 38:53Is it May now? Thought it was June.
- 38:56May 26th, yeah. In any event, it's only going to
- 38:59be on console. Yeah.
- 39:01And I think we're getting squatted for Q.
- 39:03And A console honestly, but. We are going to get from 42 Yeah
- 39:09on console. I think that could make it to
- 39:11console. It needs to be.
- 39:13It needs to be. Honestly, it's it's.
- 39:16It's. It's the perfect game for a
- 39:19console. I think it's something that they
- 39:22the the consoles really need to be able to experience kind of
- 39:25like, I mean, we had Elite Dangerous on consoles, but it,
- 39:29you know, Star Citizens, a whole different beast.
- 39:32And I think that to have the the larger world be able to get that
- 39:37experience is kind of cool. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:42I don't think the PU will ever make it to consoles, but that's
- 39:45cuz you could never pass any of the QA tests.
- 39:50Yeah, qua. But qua the qua tests.
- 39:55Is anybody else considering getting a consoles just because
- 39:59of GTA cause or am I crazy? No, I'll just wait.
- 40:02No. No.
- 40:04I'm crazy. Patience.
- 40:06Yeah dude, it's it they haven't had a good track record recently
- 40:12of a lot do you know day one releases.
- 40:15So just let them you know true. You can complain all you want
- 40:18about Star. That's.
- 40:19Going to be that, that'll be the biggest, that'll be the biggest
- 40:22game of the year. It'll probably be the biggest
- 40:24game for the next four or five years.
- 40:27These things are bigger than movies.
- 40:29I'm going to think of any GTA. This is very off topic so I'm
- 40:33just going to say it and then we move on.
- 40:35I think GTA 6 is going to be a let down.
- 40:39Oh yeah, let's. Just move on after you say that.
- 40:42Move on. Half life when we move.
- 40:44On well, it's just like completely off topic, but I
- 40:48think I think it's suffering from Squadron 42, like with us,
- 40:53but for more people. GTA6 has been built up to be
- 40:58this great, amazing thing. I think it's not going to.
- 41:03I think it's going to feel like it's on the same, I think.
- 41:05It'll be a good Grand Theft Auto game.
- 41:07I think it'll be good entry. It'll be great to go back to.
- 41:10Oh shit, What's the city by city by city?
- 41:15Yeah, like cool environments. Cool.
- 41:19Crowd stuff and all that. Better tech than five had.
- 41:23But like ultimately. Do you think expectations for
- 41:28Squadron are accurate or do you think people are expecting more?
- 41:34Like I'm expecting it to just be like a good, you know, I mean,
- 41:37it's a good story driven, you know, single player shooter
- 41:42space thing. I'm not expecting it to be
- 41:45particularly groundbreaking or anything because it doesn't have
- 41:50a lot of the things that make Star Citizen groundbreaking,
- 41:54right, with the multiplayer and all that stuff.
- 41:57But I guess I mean, you do have like the planets and this flying
- 42:00down to them, which is one of the big things.
- 42:02But yeah, just what do you guys think?
- 42:04Is it are expectations set correctly or do you think people
- 42:07are expecting more from Squadron I?
- 42:10Guess depends on how you ask. I mean well.
- 42:13That's I'm asking you. That's fair, I think Chris will
- 42:17do his best Kojima impression and it'll be good but not like
- 42:22revolutionary. I mean, it's, it's kind of fun.
- 42:26Rails, you know, it's on Rails. It's a story.
- 42:33I'll play it for a month and then it'll be cool, but I'll go
- 42:37back to Star Citizen. I mean Squadron 42 is a one
- 42:41month game. Star Citizen is a 10 year game.
- 42:45Yeah. I just think their priorities.
- 42:50Broccoli. I think like comparing like
- 42:54Squadron 42 and GTA 6, I think that people who know Squadron 42
- 42:59kind of know what they're getting into it.
- 43:03But people playing GTA6 are kind of like more casual, like by and
- 43:07large more casual like GTA5 sometimes.
- 43:10And then they're kind of seeing this stuff and not really
- 43:13looking into it, not watching like a yearly drop.
- 43:16And they're going to be like, holy shit, this is going to be
- 43:17the next amazing, great game. My expectations are set so high
- 43:21because I'm a casual gamer. I've not been watching this game
- 43:27evolved for 10 years. So I think a lot of us, last
- 43:31Squadron 42 owners and soon to be owners know know what they're
- 43:36getting into in a way that GTA6 owners don't.
- 43:41Which is kind of sad because GTA really, I mean, that was a game
- 43:46I played for, you know, GTA Online was a game I played for
- 43:50years and it built a lot of friendships off of it.
- 43:52And it really did feel like the place I can go to to relax.
- 43:55And Star Citizen Field is that same game.
- 43:58And to be able to give someone that freedom without it being
- 44:03focused just on the violent or criminal aspect is is kind of
- 44:09cool and I wish more people had that experience.
- 44:12It's kind of sucks that it won't be a console experience.
- 44:19Well, I mean, do you really want to play it?
- 44:21And like, I want my flight sticks.
- 44:24If you're blessed enough to have flight sticks.
- 44:27I don't I I also have a controller, right?
- 44:30And so the FPS stuff I use the controller for, but like the
- 44:33ship flying a ship with the controller just it stinks.
- 44:39I'm sure you get the same thing from mouse and keyboard.
- 44:42Like you really just want the feeling of like the sticks.
- 44:45So if you have it like I'm not, I'm there's no chance I'm going
- 44:48to move over to a console to play a squadron or Star Citizen
- 44:53or whatever. Yeah.
- 44:55But I I played mouse and keyboard, that's that's my
- 44:58preferred method of playing. I hate controllers with a
- 45:04passion. I just do not like them.
- 45:08And I had flight sticks for a while.
- 45:10It took me a long time to get used to them.
- 45:12And even after I'd spent all that money on sticks, I still
- 45:19for the longest time preferred I just grabbed my mouse and
- 45:21keyboard and push the sticks to the side because it was just, it
- 45:26just felt better. But then eventually I forced
- 45:28myself to use the sticks and now I I wouldn't want to go back
- 45:34general moving. I just love mouse and keyboard
- 45:37for almost every game I play. It's just been my preferred
- 45:40method of gaming for years. And you know, you have so much
- 45:44built in muscle memory, it's hard to to start moving to to
- 45:47different. Like that's why I'd never want
- 45:50to buy a console because you you're stuck on that controller
- 45:52and I just can't stand it. This is a good talk guys.
- 45:55I got to go, have a good one. See you bro thank.
- 45:57You. Goodbye, Brock.
- 45:57Rob, say something for Sandy Roberts.
- 45:59Oh man, you left so OK, so. I mean, looking at all of this,
- 46:09I mean, I'm just saying like, like the console experience of
- 46:12being able to have people who can get into this for a
- 46:14relatively cheaper price than we did.
- 46:17Let's get to buy a whole PC and traffic card that is able to run
- 46:22it, things like that. Let's say just the general mass
- 46:25is being able to have this freedom.
- 46:27I mean, it is kind of unfortunate that that this will
- 46:29not be that experience. Squadron maybe, but they won't
- 46:33get the Star Citizen part. Well, you you have to think
- 46:37about this from from not not from a Star Citizen point of
- 46:42view is for when it comes to this console games, you know,
- 46:45the number one platform for gaming is the mobile phone,
- 46:48right? Indeed, and followed distantly
- 46:52by consoles and then followed even more distantly by the PC.
- 46:59So most people that are into games that you know you're going
- 47:03to spend that big price tag on and they're an adult game.
- 47:07Most of those players are console players and they already
- 47:10have the console. There's so many, you know, 20
- 47:15something, 30 something, and I dare say maybe even some 40
- 47:18something. That's that their method of
- 47:20gaming is the console, whether it's a sports game, whether
- 47:24they're old, you know, from their childhood, they've been
- 47:26playing GTA from years, you know, for multiple years.
- 47:31I mean GTA remember it's been around since the 90s and GTA5
- 47:38has been going strong for over 10 years.
- 47:42They make like a billion dollars a year.
- 47:46That's. Crazy why even?
- 47:48Yeah, that's great. They don't even need a new game.
- 47:50That's the Star Citizen model that that's that's how it's
- 47:53supposed to play out, right? I and that's what that's what
- 47:57just perplexes me about the whole thing is that they're
- 48:00focusing so much OnStar Citizen. I mean, sorry, Squadron 42 went
- 48:05the real business model is this online, you know the the GTA
- 48:10Online has generated this much money because it is a fun
- 48:16interaction and Star Citizen is that and focusing on a single
- 48:21player game. I mean, I like it but.
- 48:24And, and if you're, if you're a Twitch viewer or, or with a lot
- 48:27of young people are Twitch viewers there or, or kick
- 48:31viewers or YouTube live viewers, you know what's always in the
- 48:35top five in games GTA. Yeah.
- 48:39GTA. You know what?
- 48:41And you know what they're doing in GTA role-playing.
- 48:44Yep. And it's some of it is like,
- 48:48it's almost pure. It's like cinema sometimes, how
- 48:51good it is. Of course, it's not always like
- 48:54that, but I've watched some of it and I was like, good grief,
- 48:58this could be a a movie. I think there was Macbeth or
- 49:02Othello that was made in GTA5 online that was reviewed
- 49:08recently very highly. But I think the, the, the, the
- 49:14big take away for me is that they're, they, the, the fan base
- 49:18Rockstar has is gigantic. And whether the game is only
- 49:25mediocre or it's a masterpiece really doesn't matter.
- 49:29It's it's going to sell the the the first, it'll probably sell a
- 49:34billion dollars in the in the initial release, but.
- 49:38They used to be so much money. But I, I, I would say 2 billion
- 49:42just adjusting for inflation and, and the popularity over the
- 49:48years and the fact that, you know, people are going to want
- 49:52to, you know, resume their online experiences that are
- 49:57going to inevitably happen because the single players only
- 49:59for so long. Remember 10 years of GTA5
- 50:04people, you know, a lot of people probably burned out now
- 50:07they want to. Now they're older, they have a
- 50:09little bit more disposable income.
- 50:11And hey man, this GTA is coming back out.
- 50:14It's new version. I got to play it.
- 50:16It's going to harken back to my day's gone by.
- 50:20People go buy it just because of curiosity I think.
- 50:23Oh yeah. They won't even play it.
- 50:26All right, so we are coming up on two hours.
- 50:28What we're going to do here, I think when episodes go this
- 50:31long, I'm going to split them on the, on the Youtubes and the
- 50:35spotifies. So if you see 2 episodes of Open
- 50:38Comms Radio, that's what's happening because it's, I think
- 50:43it's better that way, you know, better for everybody.
- 50:47So that's what we're going to do this episode, next episode.
- 50:53Who knows what's what's going to happen?
- 50:56Maybe. 7 hours. Not that we're not going to.
- 51:02It's not going to be a 7 hour episode.
- 51:04Although maybe we could go, we could do a marathon episode one
- 51:09day. Oh.
- 51:10God. Actually.
- 51:11Run a marathon and we have our headsets on and just like, you
- 51:15know what I'm. Talking about, it's just like
- 51:17heavy breathing. Yeah.
- 51:23I'm dead at the first block. I'm going to recess.
- 51:26What? Do you think?
- 51:29Of that Knicks. That's what I'm saying.
- 51:32I'm but I'm not talking about the the system.
- 51:34I'm talking about Knicks. I think I could do a full hour
- 51:39on how happy I am about the Knicks toilet sewage gameplay
- 51:43stuff and what I'd like to see with all that.
- 51:45Gameplay. You could eat.
- 51:48I liked Duke's idea at the beginning.
- 51:50Can you? Can you wait to do that?
- 51:53And wait, what? What was my idea?
- 51:56About. E What is it?
- 52:01I was just saying I like Duke's idea in the in the beginning
- 52:03about like the competitive mining and the like getting the
- 52:06fastest or getting the best yield.
- 52:09Yeah, that would be cool. Competitive.
- 52:12Competitive toilet. DP Yeah dude, there could be so
- 52:16many opportunities here. Plumbing Gameplay.
- 52:18Baby, that's true. Sorry, I'm sorry.
- 52:23We were talking about poop gameplay and you said you can
- 52:25eat and you didn't finish that sentence.
- 52:29And I'm going to ask again, what comes after that?
- 52:35Who said that? You.
- 52:37You did. I didn't see you.
- 52:40Roll the tape, Jimmy, pull up the tape.
- 52:43Pull it up. Well.
- 52:45I got a question. I got a question a a legitimate
- 52:48question jar jar. Yeah.
- 52:50Now, jar Jar, you fancy yourself a married man, right?
- 52:53Jar Jar Jabroni perfectly happily wed.
- 52:57Right. And you, you, you're, you're,
- 53:00you're code domicile with your, your, your, your significant
- 53:03other. Who living again there?
- 53:06When it when it comes time to clean, who cleans the bathroom?
- 53:10Yo, it's. A random.
- 53:13It just so. Happens I have I've eaten in the
- 53:18bathroom before. I've eaten in the bathroom
- 53:19before, dude. All right, Bonus for anyone
- 53:23who's made it this far. Yesterday I was going to cook
- 53:27some pasta and some some some fresh sauce with some meatballs.
- 53:33And so I'm going to make a homemade sauce.
- 53:35So I'm cooking these tomatoes and I had like a Pyrex glass
- 53:40like casserole dish and I had it on the stove and I have a gas
- 53:44stove. And then I turn the burner on
- 53:46and then I go and I'm doing my things and I'm chopping and I'm
- 53:49adding to this pot and I'm like, oh man, why isn't it like not
- 53:52heating up? So I turn it up to Max.
- 53:54Yeah. And then I realize the, the, the
- 54:00casserole dish is on the open flan.
- 54:02I turned on the wrong burner. Oh, man.
- 54:05And so I turn off the burner and I go or like the oven Mitt on
- 54:09and I go to like touch it to I go to like move it and it
- 54:14explodes. Yeah, yeah, it.
- 54:17Exploded everywhere and like it all in the the sauce I was
- 54:21making. So I spent like 2 hours I just
- 54:27had like I had to deep clean the whole kitchen because there's
- 54:29glass everywhere. There's probably glass still
- 54:31behind my stove. That's a very interesting segue,
- 54:34but you never answered the question.
- 54:36What do? You eat.
- 54:38What do I eat in the bathroom? No Who cleans your bathroom?
- 54:42Oh, she usually cleans it. Oh.
- 54:44That's a let. Down OK, OK.
- 54:46But you were, we were talking about solid and liquid waste and
- 54:49you said you're really excited because you can eat.
- 54:53Then you never finished that sentence and you gaslighted us
- 54:56like 4 times. I don't think anyone really was
- 54:59gaslighted. You guys feel gaslight?
- 55:06That's good. That's a good.
- 55:07Shit right there. That's good.
- 55:09That's good. Yeah, you.
- 55:11Know I'm. I'm a professional.
- 55:14Are you? Oh, yeah.
- 55:16Oh, a long, long line of jabronis gaslighting their
- 55:21youth. Yeah.
- 55:23All right, so it is time and it's time to close this out.
- 55:25We're going to go very, very, very, very quickly here.
