- 0:00Speaker 1: Craigway alongside the producer Cameron Parker. Glad to have you
- 0:03Speaker 1: alongside as well, and we're with you up until five
- 0:07Speaker 1: o'clock and a reminder. Longhorn Weekly with coach Sark returns tonight.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We had Pluckers the West Campus location, so we record
- 0:15Speaker 1: the program from six until seven. There it's at twenty
- 0:18Speaker 1: two to twenty two Rio Grand, so we record the
- 0:21Speaker 1: program from six o'clock to seven o'clock at Pluckers eighty
- 0:24Speaker 1: Well Air tomorrow night Thursday night at seven o'clock.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Before we jumped to the college football play.
- 0:30Speaker 1: There's one thing I didn't get a chance to get
- 0:32Speaker 1: to yesterday and wanted to do it. Did you see
- 0:36Speaker 1: the news about Zella's hicks? I did, Yeah, for folks
- 0:41Speaker 1: who didn't hear, he's ranked as the number one safety
- 0:46Speaker 1: in the ESPN twenty twenty six recruiting class signing class.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But he's planning to recycle, reclassify, excuse me, into the
- 0:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty five cycle and he's going to roll in
- 1:00Speaker 1: Texas next year.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So six two.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Hundred ninety pounds from Carrollton, Georgia have been committed to Texas.
- 1:07Speaker 1: In September twelfth, when he picked the Long Orange over Georgia,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Ohio State and USC Hicks totally ESPN. He's not determined
- 1:13Speaker 1: yet whether he'll enroll at Texas in the spring or summer,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but he confirmed that his commitment to the Long Orange
- 1:18Speaker 1: remains solid ahead of the start of the early signing period.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So he's planning not only on signing on December fourth,
- 1:27Speaker 1: but then reporting whether it be in the spring or
- 1:30Speaker 1: the summer.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Yeah, a huge, a huge move for Blake. Gideon Sark
- 1:35Speaker 3: to get him to reclassify four star right now. I
- 1:39Speaker 3: think some some spots have him as a five. I
- 1:41Speaker 3: think Rivals has him as a five star. With six
- 1:44Speaker 3: foot two, one hundred and eighty six pounds, he's got
- 1:46Speaker 3: a big, big wink winkspan, very instinctual football player. He's
- 1:51Speaker 3: known for being a short tackler, can play above his weight,
- 1:55Speaker 3: a good blitzer. He's been labeled as a good man
- 1:59Speaker 3: to men defender. So this is someone that I think
- 2:01Speaker 3: this staff is.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Very high on.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And hey, get him into year early, get them maybe
- 2:05Speaker 3: come in early, you know, and and help him develop.
- 2:07Speaker 3: You know, we heard Sark talk about Xavier Fills with me.
- 2:10Speaker 3: The five stars safety came in and Sark mentioned him
- 2:13Speaker 3: by name this week on Monday as someone who's continued
- 2:16Speaker 3: to develop and get better and Xaper might you know,
- 2:20Speaker 3: play a big role for Texas down the stretch. So
- 2:23Speaker 3: it's you know, the development of these players is very
- 2:25Speaker 3: key but huge protext as a part of their twenty
- 2:27Speaker 3: twenty five class.
- 2:28Speaker 1: If you'd like to let us hear your thoughts, your questions,
- 2:32Speaker 1: your opinions on anything. First of all, you could voice
- 2:35Speaker 1: it to us on the using the talk back feature
- 2:37Speaker 1: in the iHeart Radio app. You just download the iHeart
- 2:40Speaker 1: Radio app if you haven't already onto your smartphone, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: then you search AM thirteen under the zone an easy
- 2:46Speaker 1: fine there and then there's a little red button with
- 2:48Speaker 1: a white microphone and you click on that and you
- 2:51Speaker 1: can leave us a message of up to thirty seconds
- 2:53Speaker 1: talk about, Hey, I think I think the playoff rankings
- 2:55Speaker 1: were whack or this or that or whatever.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You can do it that way.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You can also text the program text the word Texas
- 3:01Speaker 1: followed by your question or comment to eight one five
- 3:04Speaker 1: three zero. That's the word Texas followed by your question
- 3:07Speaker 1: or comment to eight one five three zero.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Standard messaging and data age may apply.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Okay, we got to do it a little bit in
- 3:13Speaker 1: the first hour, but I wanted to get in a
- 3:15Speaker 1: little more, a little greater detailing that the first College
- 3:18Speaker 1: Football Playoff rankings, and I was amused by what you said.
- 3:21Speaker 2: There is the considerable outrage what was going on.
- 3:26Speaker 1: The first thing that was really funny was Booger McFarlane
- 3:31Speaker 1: saying that Indiana has been the most disrespected team through
- 3:36Speaker 1: all of this. Joey Gallaway just calmly looked at him
- 3:40Speaker 1: and said, how can they be disrespected? They haven't released,
- 3:43Speaker 1: they haven't released this thing. Well, they've been disrespected. This
- 3:47Speaker 1: is the first release and they weren't disrespected. They were
- 3:51Speaker 1: eight in that I didn't think. I thought the Big
- 3:54Speaker 1: ten got quite a bit of respect off of that.
- 3:57Speaker 2: They did.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I know some folks thought that BYU and the Big
- 4:00Speaker 1: twelve maybe didn't get it. And then there was an
- 4:03Speaker 1: interesting piece this morning that I read from Bill Connley,
- 4:08Speaker 1: when of the College Football staff writers, and he said,
- 4:13Speaker 1: here's a sentence I never thought i'd type first indications
- 4:17Speaker 1: this year, or that the CFP committee might be underrating
- 4:22Speaker 1: the SEC. I laughed when I saw that, and he
- 4:25Speaker 1: said a few years ago I learned that by combining
- 4:29Speaker 1: poll averages the AP and the coaches polls with a
- 4:31Speaker 1: computer average derived from both the power ratings the SP
- 4:34Speaker 1: plus and the FBI and resume ratings resume sp plus
- 4:38Speaker 1: and strength the record, we could approximate the College Football
- 4:42Speaker 1: Committee thinking pretty well, this almost BCS style rating lined
- 4:47Speaker 1: up with what the committee produces most of the time
- 4:50Speaker 1: enough so that when the committee straight into something different,
- 4:53Speaker 1: it's to it out. And if the Committee was looking
- 4:55Speaker 1: at things differently this time around, in theory, that might
- 4:57Speaker 1: stand out too. So if they used that BCS style approach,
- 5:06Speaker 1: it would be as followers. For example, Oregon would be one,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Georgia would be two, but in the college Football playoff
- 5:13Speaker 1: rankings they had them three. They had them flip flop
- 5:16Speaker 1: of Ohio State. According to what would be the BCS
- 5:18Speaker 1: style rankings, Ohio State would have been third. They're number
- 5:22Speaker 1: two in last night's rankings released, Miami for Texas fifth
- 5:25Speaker 1: that held through both Tennessee sixth, although it's seventh in
- 5:30Speaker 1: last night's rankings, Penn State seventh, number six in last
- 5:34Speaker 1: night's rankings, Indiana eighth, Notre Dame ninth, number ten in
- 5:38Speaker 1: last night's rankings, and b YU tenth number nine in
- 5:42Speaker 1: the College Football Playoff rankings, and a lot of people thought,
- 5:44Speaker 1: b why you was, you know whatever, disrespected.
- 5:47Speaker 2: But if you used.
- 5:49Speaker 1: The formula that had been using for the four team
- 5:51Speaker 1: playoffs all the way up through last year, they'd be tenth,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and the CFP has them ninth. So I don't know
- 5:59Speaker 1: where you go with regard to you know, BYU being
- 6:04Speaker 1: disrespected or whatever it might be. But and again this
- 6:10Speaker 1: was something Kirkharvestree was not on the program last night.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But even though he wasn't on the program last night,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Joey Galloway said, Kirk Hurvestree, this is where he would say,
- 6:23Speaker 1: it's only the first set of rankings and try not to,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, put too much emotion or too much angst
- 6:34Speaker 1: into this in these first ones. You know, clearly they
- 6:39Speaker 1: take a lot of the Big ten, the top two
- 6:40Speaker 1: or big ten. And then he have Penn State at six,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and you have Indiana eight. They have four in the
- 6:46Speaker 1: top eight there. The SEC they have Georgia at three,
- 6:51Speaker 1: Texas at five, Tennessee at seven, so they have three
- 6:56Speaker 1: in the top ten there. And then they have Alabama's
- 7:02Speaker 1: the next one at eleven. So they have four teams
- 7:05Speaker 1: that would be in the bracket if it were released today.
- 7:09Speaker 1: If that was the bracket, along with four Big Ten schoals,
- 7:11Speaker 1: that would occupy eight of the twelve slots if it
- 7:14Speaker 1: were to happening. So I don't know that the SEC
- 7:16Speaker 1: is necessarily disrespected either or underrated.
- 7:19Speaker 2: As Bill Connley wrote.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It, well, I think the big winners from this obviously
- 7:23Speaker 3: are the Big Ten. But because the SEC like Tennessee
- 7:27Speaker 3: and Georgia, Alabama, LSU, all miss A, and m they're
- 7:30Speaker 3: all going to beat up on each other because most
- 7:32Speaker 3: of them have to play each other head to head,
- 7:34Speaker 3: if not once, at least twice. But for Penn State,
- 7:37Speaker 3: they don't play anyone else on their schedule. It's a
- 7:39Speaker 3: very easy schedule. Indiana only has Ohio State, and if
- 7:43Speaker 3: Ohio State wins out, they'll be in the Big Ten
- 7:46Speaker 3: Championship with Oregon, and their toughest test is an Indiana
- 7:50Speaker 3: team that has the one hundred and third toughest schedule
- 7:54Speaker 3: in the country, So a cakewalk in Penn State at
- 7:57Speaker 3: six too. So I mean, even if Indiana loses to
- 8:00Speaker 3: Ohio State, I mean it looks like they're probably going
- 8:02Speaker 3: to stay in that top twelve. But you know, Alabama
- 8:05Speaker 3: has to play LSU. You still have some big games
- 8:08Speaker 3: for Georgia and Ole Miss in Tennessee. So it does
- 8:11Speaker 3: feel like Craig that the Big ten is going to
- 8:13Speaker 3: get a minimum of four teams in the playoffs.
- 8:16Speaker 1: And I think that the Big twelve has already had
- 8:22Speaker 1: a great deal of cannibalization. That's why it only b
- 8:25Speaker 1: Whyu's been able to stay above the fray. But since
- 8:28Speaker 1: Iowa State lost, since Kansas State lost, you know, both
- 8:32Speaker 1: of those teams got to beat and now Colorado on
- 8:35Speaker 1: the rise a little bit. Albeit with two losses. It
- 8:40Speaker 1: does chake things up a bit. It's going to get
- 8:45Speaker 1: more and more interesting for Colorado. They play in Lubbock
- 8:48Speaker 1: this Saturday against Texas Tech Tech riding high coming off
- 8:51Speaker 1: the road win at Iowa State. But Colorado has a pathway,
- 8:57Speaker 1: as does mathematically Texas Tech to get to the Big
- 8:59Speaker 1: twelve championship game. Then if you win the Big twelve
- 9:02Speaker 1: championship game, you're in the playoff.
- 9:06Speaker 3: So did you mess with that on the simulator last night,
- 9:09Speaker 3: Texas Tech.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I didn't have the Big twelve simulator out. I was
- 9:13Speaker 2: just looking at the SEC.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I probably should look at that big that's bound to
- 9:16Speaker 1: be a box of chocolates.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That could be pretty interesting there.
- 9:20Speaker 1: With regard to Colorado, And how about Washington State, they're ranked,
- 9:23Speaker 1: i mean twenty first in playoffs. Well, they've got they've
- 9:27Speaker 1: got some quality wins. But here's the thing about Washington State.
- 9:31Speaker 1: They they're not in a conference, so they'd really have
- 9:36Speaker 1: to climb the ladder pretty high up.
- 9:39Speaker 2: What does the committee hate Vanderbilt? Why do they hate them? Yeah?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Not okay.
- 9:44Speaker 3: If anyone should be upset, it's Vanderbilt being left out
- 9:47Speaker 3: of the top twenty five. You're telling me the Commodoes
- 9:49Speaker 3: aren't a top twenty five team in the country.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Well, here's the one thing I did notice about the
- 9:53Speaker 1: committee last night is that.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And this came up.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Rech Davis had thought made a great point when he
- 10:02Speaker 1: said the committee changes members over time, and sometimes the
- 10:06Speaker 1: ideology changes a little bit. What I mean by this
- 10:10Speaker 1: is that it's gone from having value placed on wins
- 10:20Speaker 1: to a more punitive effect on how damaging your loss is.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And I think that's the thing. You know, Notre Dame
- 10:27Speaker 1: is ten. They have easily the worst loss in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: whole thing to Northern Illinois, and now the win of
- 10:33Speaker 1: a Navy doesn't look as good since Navy lost to
- 10:35Speaker 1: Rice last Saturday, but they have a big win in
- 10:39Speaker 1: College Station that helps so and then of course a
- 10:43Speaker 1: lot of this again, we'll take care of itself when
- 10:45Speaker 1: the Army.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Plays in Notre Dame in a couple of weeks off
- 10:48Speaker 2: of that.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But the Big twelve has already kind of feasted on
- 10:51Speaker 1: each other a little bit, and it's knocked each other
- 10:53Speaker 1: down some. And that's why you have those schools down
- 10:56Speaker 1: where they are b why you will may well be
- 11:00Speaker 1: could be the only Big twelve school getting in there,
- 11:03Speaker 1: depending on what else happens the rest of the way.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And I'm curious to see what happens with SMU because
- 11:09Speaker 1: they have, as we mentioned, a clear path to getting
- 11:11Speaker 1: into the a SEC Championship. So say they do against Miami,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and say Miami beats them, and maybe it's a competitive game.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You know, SMU is thirteen right now.
- 11:21Speaker 1: If they get into the a SEC Championship game, I
- 11:24Speaker 1: think by then they'll be in the top twelve. But
- 11:27Speaker 1: the question is will they fall out with the loss?
- 11:29Speaker 1: And that was one of the things that we pointed
- 11:31Speaker 1: out yesterday. The Rich Clark, the executive director said when
- 11:34Speaker 1: he was on with us and on that webinar last week,
- 11:38Speaker 1: that it would not necessarily be that punitive for schools
- 11:44Speaker 1: who get into their conference championship game and have one
- 11:46Speaker 1: more loss being compared to a school from that same
- 11:50Speaker 1: league who didn't advance to the conference championship. And I
- 11:53Speaker 1: can tell you right now, you know he's talking about there.
- 11:55Speaker 1: He's talking about the SEC and the Big ten. Those
- 11:59Speaker 1: are the US, about the other Power two's and certainly
- 12:03Speaker 1: not so much about the G five. That's about the
- 12:06Speaker 1: Big ten in the SEC, about whether you you know,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you get into the conference championship game and they lose.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Because I see a lot of long WRN fans on
- 12:14Speaker 1: social media go, you know, it's better if we just
- 12:15Speaker 1: don't make the SEC championship, you know, and risk another
- 12:19Speaker 1: loss to Georgia. Better just to sit outside at three
- 12:22Speaker 1: Rich Clarks is not necessarily depends on how the game goes.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You're not gonna tell that the teams anyway. They want
- 12:28Speaker 1: to get into the conference championship game and have a
- 12:30Speaker 1: shot to win.
- 12:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Coming up, we're gonna hear from the coach of the
- 12:36Speaker 1: Texas Long Words. Some comments from Long Horns head coach
- 12:39Speaker 1: Steve Sarkisian when we continue on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 12:41Speaker 1: under the zone in the IR radio app.
