- 0:26Speaker 1: From Indianapolis, Indiana. Our coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine continues.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Lucas Oil Stadium, the site the on field testing beginning tomorrow,
- 0:35Speaker 1: but across the street in the Indiana Convention Center. Hot
- 0:38Speaker 1: and heavy on Radio Row in the Media Center and
- 0:41Speaker 1: welcome in its jags am from Radio Row in Indianapolis,
- 0:44Speaker 1: JP Shadwick, John Osier, and the King of the Combine
- 0:47Speaker 1: has arrived to sit in his throne all week long.
- 0:51Speaker 1: It's Bucky Brooks. Welcome to Indy man.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm excited to be here, Like it's one of my
- 0:56Speaker 2: favorite places, one of my favorite events to as end.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Get a chance to see you old colleagues, get a
- 1:01Speaker 2: chancey the new class of players coming in and catch.
- 1:03Speaker 3: It with you. Guys.
- 1:04Speaker 4: It's truly like the Pied Piper when you follow him
- 1:06Speaker 4: around here. I mean it's you can follow him. He is,
- 1:09Speaker 4: He's an icon. But I'm not sure Bucky, that your
- 1:12Speaker 4: event is going to be your event for that much longer.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I think the Combine feels to me like it's changing.
- 1:17Speaker 4: We'll talk about that later in the show.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, like definitely not the same.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Not as many people and not as many personnel coming
- 1:23Speaker 2: out to the bench, which is kind of depressing.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Everybody wants a piece of Everybody wants a piece of
- 1:27Speaker 1: Bucky Brooks. I mean the latest monk came out. We'll
- 1:29Speaker 1: get to that. It was yesterday, just in time for
- 1:31Speaker 1: the combine. In your visit here, and everybody wants to
- 1:33Speaker 1: talk to you about your selections for their team.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah, hopefully I can.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I can remember who I put there musical chairs. I mean,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you're sitting there laying on a Sunday night trying to
- 1:43Speaker 2: throw darts to try and figure out who's and what's what.
- 1:46Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun. But right now the Monks
- 1:48Speaker 2: will not have as much accuracy. We haven't even done
- 1:50Speaker 2: free agency yet. No, I haven't got anything. I haven't
- 1:53Speaker 2: cut players yet. Yeah, we're still trying to figure it out.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Not have as much accus so they'll have like less close.
- 2:00Speaker 2: As you can kind of narrow it down. But yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: like you know, like right now we're really guessing. Yes,
- 2:05Speaker 2: this clickbait a little bit, a little bit, a little
- 2:09Speaker 2: just a little it's a little clickbait, clickbait.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Imagine that Bucky Brooks with clickbait. Charles Davis, NFL Network,
- 2:16Speaker 1: CBS Sports, Serrius XM Radio coming up in just a
- 2:19Speaker 1: little bit. He's around Radio row as well. He'll join
- 2:22Speaker 1: us here in the program in just a little while.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Of course, the big reason why we are here every
- 2:27Speaker 1: year is that the GM and head coach speak with
- 2:30Speaker 1: the media, and they did that yesterday, Trent Balke and
- 2:33Speaker 1: Doug Peterson really setting the tone for the start of
- 2:36Speaker 1: the twenty four campaign and beyond. The league year officially
- 2:39Speaker 1: begins March thirteenth, but this is really the start where
- 2:42Speaker 1: the messaging begins for how they're going to move forward.
- 2:44Speaker 1: John and Hey, collective front was the idea, right. There
- 2:49Speaker 1: was a lot of noise in the system after the
- 2:51Speaker 1: nine and eight and the collapse to get there and
- 2:53Speaker 1: miss the playoffs. But both were out there yesterday and
- 2:56Speaker 1: now they have a course moving ahead.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought both of them on our show, and
- 3:01Speaker 4: then when they're on the podium the nice job setting
- 3:03Speaker 4: the tone and clarifying which Trent had said a couple
- 3:06Speaker 4: of weeks ago. Look, this was a nine and eighteen,
- 3:08Speaker 4: it was not a one in sixteen team. They don't
- 3:11Speaker 4: feel like they're far away. Trend on the podium probably
- 3:14Speaker 4: said it best. Very disappointed by the end of last season,
- 3:17Speaker 4: but focused on moving forward. But yeah, I don't think
- 3:21Speaker 4: they're that far away. Do you agree with what they
- 3:25Speaker 4: were saying? And are there are there moves that they
- 3:28Speaker 4: can make? Are there things that they can do quote
- 3:30Speaker 4: easily to get to where they want to go?
- 3:33Speaker 2: I think so. Look, I don't think the team is
- 3:35Speaker 2: far away. I mean, it's funny. It's just the way
- 3:38Speaker 2: that the team finished that that led to disappoint.
- 3:40Speaker 4: It was a nine and eighth three fourteen.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it just it just felt bad, just
- 3:44Speaker 2: because the tail spin that the team went on down
- 3:46Speaker 2: the stretch, but also coincided with Trevor Lawrence suffering a
- 3:49Speaker 2: handful of injuries not being able to play at his best,
- 3:52Speaker 2: but also not having Christian Kirk there having a handful
- 3:55Speaker 2: of other injuries to impact the performance and that.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's this.
- 4:00Speaker 2: It's clearly an excuse because injuries are going to happen.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But if you go back and look at the amount
- 4:04Speaker 2: of closed games that they lost, how they lost those games,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and the performers of their star players, the injuries did
- 4:10Speaker 2: have a big impact on the way the team finished
- 4:13Speaker 2: the season.
- 4:14Speaker 1: A lot of talk yesterday Doug Peterson, of course, is
- 4:16Speaker 1: at the podium I will hear from these guys coming
- 4:19Speaker 1: up some bites from yesterday. But then after I had
- 4:22Speaker 1: a little scrum off to the side with the local
- 4:25Speaker 1: media as they often do here before the run to
- 4:28Speaker 1: Radio Row, and that's when the offensive play calling question
- 4:32Speaker 1: line started to come up. John, you were standing right there,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and Doug Peterson said, Hey, everything's under evaluation still.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 4: He expressed great faith in Press Taylor, which I do
- 4:44Speaker 4: believe he has. He didn't waiver from Press all year.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I think Doug's thought on it is that him and
- 4:51Speaker 4: Press are of such like mind if there's not much
- 4:54Speaker 4: of a difference what I'm called plays in the first
- 4:56Speaker 4: half one and second half in twenty two. But that
- 5:00Speaker 4: being said, Brent Martin, I didn't nicely have asked the question.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Doug might be one of the best play callers in
- 5:06Speaker 4: the NFL. And Brent's question to him was, if you're
- 5:11Speaker 4: that good at it, sort of doesn't it make sense
- 5:15Speaker 4: for you to call it no matter how good Press
- 5:17Speaker 4: is at it? And you know that made sense to me,
- 5:21Speaker 4: And Doug didn't really address that question in particular, but
- 5:25Speaker 4: he certainly left the door open to call plays.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Bucky Well, I think as a head coach.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Ultimately, you have veto power and you're responsible for the
- 5:32Speaker 2: performance of the team, and as the noise escalates around
- 5:35Speaker 2: the team, sometimes as a head coach, you got to
- 5:38Speaker 2: jump in there. I do often wonder when your superpower
- 5:41Speaker 2: is you're one of the best.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Play callers in the league.
- 5:44Speaker 2: To see control of that, to me, sometimes you wonder why.
- 5:48Speaker 2: But I think the great example for Doug is looking
- 5:51Speaker 2: at his old mentor, Andy Reid, and Andy Reid has
- 5:54Speaker 2: been able to cycle through a few offensive coordinators, guys
- 5:57Speaker 2: who have called plays, but when it assists the same Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 2: But then when it gets down to it, Andy recalls
- 6:04Speaker 2: the plays in those critical moments. And so maybe it's
- 6:06Speaker 2: a bit of that ying and yang where look fresh
- 6:09Speaker 2: you call it, but in some of these gotta have
- 6:10Speaker 2: it moments, or based on the field on the floor
- 6:13Speaker 2: of the game, maybe he has to step in and
- 6:15Speaker 2: do maybe a little more of the play call and
- 6:17Speaker 2: than he did last year.
- 6:19Speaker 4: And Doug did say, and I believe it's from talking
- 6:21Speaker 4: to head coaches over the years. He liked that thirty
- 6:25Speaker 4: thousand feet view all right, that you're able to get
- 6:29Speaker 4: when you don't have your nose sort of in the
- 6:31Speaker 4: play sheet game situations and maybe he's sort of adjusting
- 6:36Speaker 4: to that a little bit. How to best balance that?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Does that make sense Buck Well?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, because when you're the head coach, there's so many
- 6:41Speaker 2: other things that you response before outside of just being
- 6:45Speaker 2: the offensive play caller. You have to understand what the
- 6:47Speaker 2: defense is doing, what issues are giving them problems, the
- 6:50Speaker 2: special teams, how you want to tie it all together.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Sometimes when you're the play caller, it it's harder to
- 6:56Speaker 2: kind of manage the entire game and kind of coordinate
- 6:59Speaker 2: all the different phases to the to the team that's it.
- 7:04Speaker 2: He has been such a good play call that he
- 7:06Speaker 2: has done one of his big quarterbacks throughout his time.
- 7:08Speaker 2: You do wonder by stepping back, how does it impact
- 7:13Speaker 2: the thing?
- 7:13Speaker 5: I kind of liken it to. I mean, like playing
- 7:15Speaker 5: a video game.
- 7:16Speaker 2: You and I can all play with the same team,
- 7:18Speaker 2: but we have our own different styles and flavor that
- 7:21Speaker 2: we add to it. Doug Peterson's flavor is a lot
- 7:24Speaker 2: different than Press Taylor, and so I don't know, I
- 7:26Speaker 2: kind of missed some of the dug stuff that he
- 7:28Speaker 2: was doing the first year in Jacksonville.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And he made reference yesterday also to you know, had
- 7:34Speaker 1: to step back a little bit. Some other things were
- 7:36Speaker 1: going on off to the side, and I guess you
- 7:39Speaker 1: can infer that maybe it was some defensive issues he
- 7:42Speaker 1: had to kind of oversee a little bit more, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: maybe with a new coordinator in may not have to
- 7:48Speaker 1: do as much of on that side of the ball.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He's not really used to that, and maybe he can
- 7:52Speaker 1: get back to some of that.
- 7:53Speaker 4: He certainly said he hoped that, you know, you hope
- 7:58Speaker 4: your defensive coordinator high right, Nielsen works out where he's
- 8:01Speaker 4: that guy. He didn't say that Mike Caldwell wasn't, but
- 8:04Speaker 4: he made reference to that a little bit. Didn't really
- 8:07Speaker 4: get into what he was talking about, so to speak,
- 8:09Speaker 4: of what he had to address. But if you change
- 8:12Speaker 4: your dynamic just a little, then in big moments, maybe
- 8:16Speaker 4: that changes it a lot.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it does change it a lot.
- 8:19Speaker 2: And so here's the thing about an offensive head coach
- 8:21Speaker 2: play caller. When you're the play caller and the head coach,
- 8:24Speaker 2: a lot of times you want a defensive head coach,
- 8:27Speaker 2: meaning the defensive cordin is in charge of that side
- 8:29Speaker 2: of the ball and you're just able to work on
- 8:32Speaker 2: focus on offense and not entrust it. But because Mike
- 8:35Speaker 2: Halweb might have been having some issues on that side.
- 8:37Speaker 2: He had to step in and do more, and that
- 8:39Speaker 2: distracted him from being able to concentrate on what he
- 8:42Speaker 2: wanted to do on offense.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Our guest today on Jags Am from the NFL on CBS,
- 8:46Speaker 1: NFL Network, Serious XM Radio. I guess another king of
- 8:50Speaker 1: the combine. I didn't know there were multiple cash it's
- 8:53Speaker 1: Charles Davis Kings. Yes, what's up, Charles? How are you?
- 8:57Speaker 6: I'm doing great? Yeah, we got yeah, Yeah, we're good.
- 9:01Speaker 6: Got I'm doing I'm doing well. It's so great to
- 9:03Speaker 6: see all of you. And Bucky's got to be sick
- 9:05Speaker 6: of me, because Bucky just spent a week with me
- 9:06Speaker 6: in New Orleans, the HBCU All story, the legacy story.
- 9:11Speaker 6: But thank goodness, I get a chance to hang with
- 9:13Speaker 6: all of you again.
- 9:13Speaker 3: This is great.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Good to see you. And we're reviewing Doug Peterson and
- 9:17Speaker 1: Trent Balkey at the podium yesterday, Jaguars leadership and some
- 9:20Speaker 1: of the play calling storylines that have come out of
- 9:23Speaker 1: that on the offensive. So you saw the Jags how
- 9:25Speaker 1: many times last year?
- 9:26Speaker 3: God?
- 9:26Speaker 5: We saw him what three times? I believe last year?
- 9:28Speaker 6: I think I think it was three times. I know
- 9:30Speaker 6: we saw you in Pittsburgh. It was a good win
- 9:32Speaker 6: there Kansas City at home early when it was three
- 9:36Speaker 6: and twenty seven degrees.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It was very high.
- 9:39Speaker 6: I will tell you this is a true story. The
- 9:42Speaker 6: people who bring you games and televised games and will
- 9:45Speaker 6: always get overlooked because you know, you know what's about
- 9:48Speaker 6: our camera people happened to be out there and that
- 9:50Speaker 6: that so person who runs the handheld.
- 9:53Speaker 5: You know, we got it on your shoulder and you're
- 9:55Speaker 5: doing it. Those cameras are black.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Okay, Black's not the color you want in the heat, right,
- 10:00Speaker 6: you don't want any of that.
- 10:02Speaker 5: It was so hot. Literally had to go to the
- 10:03Speaker 5: hospital with burns on his hand.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Oh okay. And we had another camera person fall out
- 10:08Speaker 5: that day.
- 10:09Speaker 6: It was brutally, brutally hot heck of a football game
- 10:12Speaker 6: and Jacksonville had multiple opportunities to win.
- 10:14Speaker 5: It couldn't score in the red zone.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Now you know a couple of years. Yeah, that's the deal.
- 10:19Speaker 1: So we're talking about offensive play call and Doug Peterson
- 10:22Speaker 1: didn't close the door yesterday on taking it back.
- 10:25Speaker 6: And you know something, he shouldn't And I don't mean
- 10:28Speaker 6: that as a slam against Press Taylor or anything like that.
- 10:30Speaker 5: You're the head coach. What is best for your team.
- 10:33Speaker 6: The only thing I would say, and Doug needs no
- 10:35Speaker 6: advice from me, but look at what Carolina did last
- 10:38Speaker 6: year and don't do that. And this is this is
- 10:43Speaker 6: coming from someone with full respect for Frank Reich, because
- 10:45Speaker 6: I love Frank Reich. I hated how it went for
- 10:48Speaker 6: him at Carolina. But to say, you're going to be
- 10:51Speaker 6: the play caller with a rookie quarterback who's number one,
- 10:54Speaker 6: turn it over mid season and then take it back Bucky,
- 10:59Speaker 6: that's a quarterback. Yeah, it's well, when you commit and go,
- 11:03Speaker 6: that's all I say.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It is hard.
- 11:05Speaker 2: So we were having a conversation before you came on,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and we were talking about maybe he learned something from
- 11:10Speaker 2: watching Andy Reid. You certainly have seen the Kancity Chiefs,
- 11:13Speaker 2: and it appears that even though he has a coordinator
- 11:16Speaker 2: who is calling plays and Big Red, big Red takes over.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And so I do wonder do you think that Doug
- 11:22Speaker 2: can kind of pick up the phone call and they say,
- 11:25Speaker 2: how do I navigate?
- 11:25Speaker 3: How do I manage this situation where I'm a.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Really good play caller, I have a young guy that
- 11:30Speaker 2: I want to groom for kind of an elevated role.
- 11:34Speaker 2: How do I kind of dip in and dip out
- 11:36Speaker 2: when it comes to play call?
- 11:37Speaker 5: He absolutely can call him. You know that Andy's gonna
- 11:39Speaker 5: take that call. Those are all his kids, all right.
- 11:41Speaker 5: He groomed him.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Plus he can go back and remember his experience because
- 11:45Speaker 6: Andy was still calling the plays and Doug wasn't a
- 11:48Speaker 6: full time play caller when he came. Remember how Andy
- 11:50Speaker 6: would let him call parts of things in different spots and.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Then crunched down.
- 11:55Speaker 6: I got it, I got it, and then off they
- 11:57Speaker 6: would go. So he remembers how it all went.
- 11:59Speaker 5: To me.
- 11:59Speaker 6: It is much more about what you were saying. You're
- 12:02Speaker 6: rooming a young play caller. If you want to call plays,
- 12:05Speaker 6: How do I do this with this young play caller?
- 12:07Speaker 6: Where that young play caller I don't lose him because
- 12:10Speaker 6: he feels like I've taken something from him. That's gonna
- 12:13Speaker 6: be the key if it Doug Peterson wants to do that.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Mike McCarthy went through it. Remember he gave up play calling,
- 12:19Speaker 6: but he always took it back in the off season
- 12:21Speaker 6: and was definitive about it. When he would take it back,
- 12:23Speaker 6: it wasn't during season.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I'm taking it.
- 12:25Speaker 5: I think that's where Doug is going right now with
- 12:27Speaker 5: his dilemma.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Charles.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Right before you got here, we were talking about Jaguars season.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Obviously it finished disastrously, which sort of made a nine
- 12:35Speaker 4: and eight season feel like three and fourteen, right you
- 12:39Speaker 4: maybe being a bit separate from it, where we got
- 12:42Speaker 4: to get into the minutia overall, where do you see
- 12:45Speaker 4: this team? Can you bounce back from what happened at
- 12:48Speaker 4: the end of last year? How do you assess it
- 12:50Speaker 4: going forward?
- 12:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that they can. It was a major shocker.
- 12:53Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not going to sit here in sugarcoat.
- 12:56Speaker 5: The whole thing is.
- 12:57Speaker 6: I watched it go kept thinking they're going to figure
- 13:00Speaker 6: this thing out, this is going to this is going
- 13:01Speaker 6: to happen, They're going to be Okay.
- 13:03Speaker 5: The last time we saw you was Cleveland, right and
- 13:06Speaker 5: that which was terrible. It was terrible.
- 13:08Speaker 6: But you remember that was right after the Monday Night
- 13:11Speaker 6: or where where Trevor got rolled up and we weren't
- 13:13Speaker 6: sure he was going to play and he came out
- 13:15Speaker 6: and played. Look, two seasons in a row in the
- 13:19Speaker 6: AFC South, the division title was locked up at mid season,
- 13:24Speaker 6: and neither one of those teams won the Division Tennessee
- 13:27Speaker 6: the year before you reeled them in.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Last year it was you. Houston comes in.
- 13:33Speaker 6: I think it's fixable because I think the culture that
- 13:36Speaker 6: Doug Peterson sets.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Up is fine.
- 13:38Speaker 6: I mean this, This is not other cultures that may
- 13:41Speaker 6: exist around the league, where once you collapse like that,
- 13:43Speaker 6: there's no coming back.
- 13:45Speaker 5: I don't see that at all.
- 13:46Speaker 6: And I think he and Trent Balky make the key
- 13:48Speaker 6: the key decisions that have to be made in order
- 13:50Speaker 6: to improve this team. And I expect him to fight
- 13:52Speaker 6: it out again this year. But I think the competition's
- 13:55Speaker 6: gone up because I think Indianapolis it's gonna be a problem.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I really do. I think that they're going to.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Be an issue depending on Anthony richardson where they go.
- 14:02Speaker 6: We already know where Houston is. They found themselves, but
- 14:06Speaker 6: Bucky can tell you better than any one. Young teams
- 14:09Speaker 6: that play ignorant the first year out the second year
- 14:13Speaker 6: also they know what they can lose.
- 14:14Speaker 5: It's a different deal. I can't wait to see how
- 14:16Speaker 5: Houston handles expectation. Last year was just like.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I want to see how they handled the expectations going
- 14:25Speaker 6: in Tennessee.
- 14:25Speaker 5: We know is hitting the.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Reset, But so think about expectations, the expectations around Trevor Lawrence.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Everyone was expecting a major jump coming off that playoff performance.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Could he be a top five quarterback?
- 14:36Speaker 2: When you look at Trevor, because you've been around the league,
- 14:38Speaker 2: you've seen other quarterbacks, how do you kind of slot
- 14:40Speaker 2: him in the equation with the other elite quarterbacks are
- 14:42Speaker 2: I'm the league.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I haven't put it.
- 14:44Speaker 6: I can't put him in elite yet, but the elite potential,
- 14:48Speaker 6: it's all right there.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Everything that we see is right there.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Just what you talked about Bucky, the how he can't
- 14:52Speaker 6: bounce back in the playoff game even before, how he
- 14:54Speaker 6: played down the stretch. The Kansas City game encapsulated everything
- 14:59Speaker 6: for me last sure, and it was early, but it.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Encapsulated it all.
- 15:02Speaker 6: Some brilliant plays, But what it is is Jerry Glamville
- 15:05Speaker 6: used to say all the time, you know, you run
- 15:07Speaker 6: the football to set it tone, but when it's time
- 15:10Speaker 6: to ring that bell, you gotta be able to throw it.
- 15:13Speaker 6: And inside the red zone, they couldn't ring the bell
- 15:16Speaker 6: against Kansas City. And Trevor made two bad throws. And
- 15:21Speaker 6: when I say bad, throws the air mailed them. Right
- 15:23Speaker 6: receiver had a chance air meltal. Those are throws of
- 15:26Speaker 6: the elite quarterbacks don't miss. And I think one day
- 15:29Speaker 6: we'll be talking about Trevor Lawrence not missing those throws
- 15:31Speaker 6: and we'll be talking about being an elite quarterback.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Charles Davis with us here on Jags AM from the
- 15:36Speaker 1: Indiana Convention Center at the NFL Scouting Combine. So now
- 15:40Speaker 1: moving ahead, Jaguars have the seventeenth pick. We've talked throughout
- 15:44Speaker 1: the off season.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Card.
- 15:47Speaker 6: That's a lot of notes because I was up last
- 15:49Speaker 6: night to him thinking about the thing.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Those all your Jaguar notes.
- 15:52Speaker 6: No, no, these are multiple, multiple teams and multiple situations
- 15:57Speaker 6: in the home because because you know that this is
- 16:00Speaker 6: like when like cards like that, like when like oh,
- 16:04Speaker 6: believe me he does don't don't, don't act like he does.
- 16:07Speaker 5: But like Winnie the Pooh something bear of little brain.
- 16:10Speaker 6: So I've had to make sure I put this all
- 16:12Speaker 6: down so I got a chance.
- 16:13Speaker 1: All right, Well, I mean, so moving ahead for the Jags,
- 16:17Speaker 1: right corner back, they got a new defensive coordinator coming in.
- 16:20Speaker 1: They couldn't stop to run the second half of the season,
- 16:22Speaker 1: so defensive line, especially the interior, might be something to
- 16:25Speaker 1: look at, but you got to protect the quarterback at
- 16:27Speaker 1: some point two in the interior.
- 16:29Speaker 5: So you know, right now, where are you listen?
- 16:32Speaker 6: Offensive tackles a loaded position. I mean, I think you
- 16:35Speaker 6: can get a really good one down at seventeen. So
- 16:37Speaker 6: if that's where you want to go, depending on where
- 16:39Speaker 6: the teams go, because we're gonna have a run on
- 16:41Speaker 6: quarterbacks early and it wouldn't be surprised, It would not
- 16:44Speaker 6: surprise me at all that some of these quarterbacks get
- 16:45Speaker 6: pushed up and create a second.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Run that we're going to have.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Right, So if you have that, that eats up spots
- 16:51Speaker 6: and then all of a sudden, what if the big.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Kid at Oregon State around.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Right?
- 16:58Speaker 6: What if he's still available sitting there at that point?
- 17:00Speaker 6: You know, what's the kid at Penn State?
- 17:03Speaker 4: Oh?
- 17:06Speaker 6: So, so you know, it's just so many different names
- 17:09Speaker 6: that you're gonna go with. JC Latham, I love Autabama.
- 17:12Speaker 6: I feel like he's a right tackle. So if you're
- 17:14Speaker 6: thinking about true left tackle, that that might be an
- 17:17Speaker 6: interesting thing. If you're think about listen, I just sat
- 17:19Speaker 6: with Byron Murphy from Texas. If you're talking about interior
- 17:22Speaker 6: defensive lineman. Yes, that's a whole lot of man right there.
- 17:25Speaker 5: There's no question.
- 17:26Speaker 6: And at corner. I don't know he's gonna make it
- 17:29Speaker 6: down to you, but he might.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Rigstraw, Oh, Missouri.
- 17:34Speaker 6: The reason I say that is because in your division
- 17:38Speaker 6: there's a running back in Indianapolis. Are going to try
- 17:40Speaker 6: and get going again, Houston. Actually you got defensive head
- 17:45Speaker 6: minded head coach. He'd like to run the ball a
- 17:47Speaker 6: little bit more. And they started to do that, trying
- 17:49Speaker 6: to emerge who it was. Damian Pierce had a bad year,
- 17:53Speaker 6: but they jumped that back up again because Devin Singletary
- 17:55Speaker 6: played really well in Tennessee.
- 17:57Speaker 5: With Brian Callahan.
- 17:58Speaker 6: I don't rule that out because if they do find
- 18:01Speaker 6: a way to resign, Derrick Henry as a good starting
- 18:03Speaker 6: blot from because he's gonna have a young quarterback.
- 18:05Speaker 5: But Rakestraw will tackle out at the corner.
- 18:08Speaker 6: So I know we're talking about Terry and Arnold, right,
- 18:10Speaker 6: we're talking about Nate Wiggins hit Clemson. All that, you'll
- 18:15Speaker 6: have an opportunity for an elite corner.
- 18:17Speaker 5: I think if you want one at seventeen.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That's the way you went, Bucky on your latest mock
- 18:21Speaker 1: one of seventeen mocks, you're.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Gonna which one did you? Who'd you have in Nate Wiggins?
- 18:26Speaker 2: And part of that is because Ryan Nielsen coming in
- 18:28Speaker 2: Christy Sharp, the way they want to play on the perimeter,
- 18:31Speaker 2: a lot of press coverage doing those things. But you
- 18:34Speaker 2: had a chance to see someone that is of interest
- 18:37Speaker 2: Quinnon Mitchell, Yeah, from Toledo. You had a chance to
- 18:39Speaker 2: see him down at the Senior Bowl. What can you
- 18:41Speaker 2: tell us about this small school standout?
- 18:43Speaker 6: This kid, to me, has a plan when he lines
- 18:46Speaker 6: up to play. He's one of those side saddle guys, right,
- 18:49Speaker 6: meaning he wants to be able to look back into
- 18:51Speaker 6: your what your offense is doing. So he wants to
- 18:53Speaker 6: be on the outside of the receiver and kind of
- 18:56Speaker 6: catch you at break points and then go get you.
- 19:00Speaker 6: A week at the Senior Bowl, I thought that, you know, really,
- 19:03Speaker 6: I thought he lost like one major route. And by
- 19:06Speaker 6: the way, it's a five yard game. It was against
- 19:08Speaker 6: Roman Wilson, and Roman threw about eight moves in including
- 19:12Speaker 6: the last one, and at the end of the day,
- 19:14Speaker 6: you're like, okay, five yards, I'll give that up. For
- 19:16Speaker 6: the most part, he competes for anything downfield.
- 19:18Speaker 5: The year before it was a major ball hawk. He
- 19:20Speaker 5: took the ball away.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Didn't get as many opportunities last year, but he still
- 19:24Speaker 6: had almost the same number of passes broken up. I
- 19:27Speaker 6: think he's a legit item. I was really impressed by
- 19:29Speaker 6: what I saw. And if somehow that's the guy, I
- 19:32Speaker 6: don't see any reason why he you know, that wouldn't
- 19:34Speaker 6: be a good pick for you.
- 19:35Speaker 1: All right, Charles's final thoughts with you here. What's the
- 19:38Speaker 1: rest of your week looking like?
- 19:39Speaker 6: Here in Indye hanging out with Bucky here, because because
- 19:42Speaker 6: we're both about to get ready to go to work
- 19:43Speaker 6: for NFL Network on the draft stuff Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 19:48Speaker 6: you know, check your local TV list things like we
- 19:50Speaker 6: used to say, and I'll be doing that. But the
- 19:52Speaker 6: truth of the matter is I'm still playing catch up,
- 19:57Speaker 6: you know, and trying to learn all these kids and
- 19:59Speaker 6: learn all these prospects. And this is valuable for people
- 20:02Speaker 6: like me, like guys who do it year round, they
- 20:06Speaker 6: should be in pretty good shape.
- 20:07Speaker 5: And this is it's not finishing school.
- 20:09Speaker 6: But you know what I'm saying, right, hockey for me,
- 20:12Speaker 6: this is like the first day of school, okay, And
- 20:14Speaker 6: so it's it's a lot of fun. I've done work,
- 20:16Speaker 6: don't get me wrong, but at the same time, and
- 20:18Speaker 6: I get to see them move and do all the
- 20:20Speaker 6: other things. So that's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 20:22Speaker 6: And I'll be spending a lot of time on the field,
- 20:24Speaker 6: which really really is fun for me. It keeps me
- 20:26Speaker 6: involved and I'm right around these kids and I get
- 20:28Speaker 6: to kind of do.
- 20:29Speaker 5: You measure a little bit?
- 20:31Speaker 4: Right?
- 20:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, that's sort of a sort of a deal.
- 20:33Speaker 6: We were in New Orleans and there was a quarterback
- 20:35Speaker 6: that we liked, and both of us were walking in
- 20:37Speaker 6: the field and we made sure we got next to
- 20:39Speaker 6: them so we can kind of measure them them up,
- 20:42Speaker 6: size them up.
- 20:42Speaker 5: That's what you get to do here at the Combine.
- 20:44Speaker 1: You're the best, Charles.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Thanks, I'm so great to see you guys. Continue success.
- 20:48Speaker 6: I'll be up to bout you during training camp, maybe
- 20:51Speaker 6: even before, and I hope we get some more games.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Funny ahead that Charles Davis, We're back with more in
- 20:57Speaker 1: a moment. It's jags Am from Indeed. Welcome back to Indianapolis.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Jags Am continues. Move the Freight, Move the Freight. Magellan
- 21:11Speaker 1: Transportation voted coolest office based in Jacksonville. Apply online at
- 21:15Speaker 1: Magellanlogistics dot com. Magellan is spelled m A g E
- 21:20Speaker 1: l l a N. It's jags am from Indianapolis Or
- 21:25Speaker 1: thanks to Charles Davis, John Ozier, Bucky Brooks with us
- 21:29Speaker 1: here on Radio Row. Trent Balke and Doug Peterson joined
- 21:31Speaker 1: us at the table here yesterday and we asked them
- 21:34Speaker 1: both about the days following the season, the meetings, and
- 21:37Speaker 1: how they found a path forward.
- 21:41Speaker 7: The biggest thing, too, is just talking to players, and
- 21:44Speaker 7: we had really good, good conversations with players at the
- 21:46Speaker 7: end of the year. You know, just how can we
- 21:50Speaker 7: as a staff help them and do and do better?
- 21:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 21:53Speaker 7: And and you know, so that's kind of where it
- 21:56Speaker 7: starts for me, That's where it starts, and really with
- 21:58Speaker 7: the players and making sure that that I'm doing and
- 22:01Speaker 7: the staff is doing everything in our power to make
- 22:04Speaker 7: sure that they have the best available to them on
- 22:07Speaker 7: the football field, can execute and we can execute at
- 22:10Speaker 7: a high level, because obviously the last month we.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Didn't do that.
- 22:13Speaker 8: When you end up the way we did that, there's
- 22:15Speaker 8: the wise and the first thing you have to do
- 22:17Speaker 8: is answer those questions, what are the wise?
- 22:20Speaker 3: How do we end up there? And I think we
- 22:22Speaker 3: did that.
- 22:22Speaker 8: We assessed it, and if we do that and we
- 22:26Speaker 8: make the changes that we feel we need to make,
- 22:28Speaker 8: we're going to be looking back and saying this was
- 22:31Speaker 8: a good process that we went through. This organization maybe
- 22:34Speaker 8: needed to go through this to get to where we
- 22:36Speaker 8: ultimately want to go. Nobody likes to lose, nobody likes
- 22:39Speaker 8: to be out of the playoffs, but really, at the
- 22:42Speaker 8: end of the day, there's only one team standing that's
- 22:44Speaker 8: happy with how their season ended.
- 22:46Speaker 3: We obviously weren't happy.
- 22:48Speaker 8: We got together, we sat down, we talked it through,
- 22:51Speaker 8: we made it a plan along with the rest of
- 22:54Speaker 8: the stabs, both personnel and coaching, and now it's time
- 22:58Speaker 8: to execute it.
- 23:02Speaker 1: That, of course, was yesterday Trim Balke and Doug Peterson.
- 23:05Speaker 1: The full conversation with both here at the table available
- 23:08Speaker 1: now on Jaguars dot com, and those are take us
- 23:10Speaker 1: through some of those. I don't know how many of
- 23:12Speaker 1: those kind of conversations after a season you might have
- 23:15Speaker 1: been involved with in a scouting capacity, but those are
- 23:18Speaker 1: not fun, but they have to be had.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It's an important reset, right, Yeah, It's an important reset
- 23:22Speaker 2: because what you want to do is you want to
- 23:23Speaker 2: tell the truth, you want.
- 23:24Speaker 3: To honestly assess where your team is.
- 23:26Speaker 2: And it's one thing to be hopeful and optimistic about
- 23:28Speaker 2: what the team is going to accomplish, but after the season,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you saw exactly what the team was and you have
- 23:33Speaker 2: to evaluate the team for as it was.
- 23:35Speaker 5: It's a nine and eight team. Where can we get better?
- 23:38Speaker 2: What is the personnel actually like From an ego standpoint,
- 23:43Speaker 2: do we need to give our draftees more opportunities or
- 23:46Speaker 2: do we need to move on from some of the
- 23:47Speaker 2: guys that have underperformed. All of those things have to
- 23:50Speaker 2: be included in the conversation, and you want to put
- 23:53Speaker 2: the best plan together that allows you to get back
- 23:57Speaker 2: and to look be a better team than they were
- 23:59Speaker 2: last year. And sometimes it takes having to those hard
- 24:01Speaker 2: conversations and making tough decisions in the offseason about who
- 24:04Speaker 2: remains on the Jaguars who's not.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You'll think that some of those began though, as the
- 24:08Speaker 1: season was starting to wind. Now, they don't just magically start, no,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you know, January.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Eighth, But the tone changes, right, Yeah, you sort of
- 24:17Speaker 4: stop hoping a guy is going to get better in
- 24:19Speaker 4: the last few weeks, and then you say, okay, well,
- 24:22Speaker 4: he's not or we know now we have to move
- 24:25Speaker 4: on from this veteran. Do we like this rookie's coming
- 24:28Speaker 4: up behind him? So this these last six seven weeks
- 24:32Speaker 4: always fascinate me because you wind up at the combine.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Now everybody it's the cliche, and everybody really is O
- 24:38Speaker 4: and O again, everybody really has hope. To me, I
- 24:42Speaker 4: liked what Doug and Trent said here yesterday, you know,
- 24:46Speaker 4: but now they have to go execute it.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Yeah, they have to go execute it.
- 24:50Speaker 2: And it's really important given all of the fodder that
- 24:52Speaker 2: existed in Jacksonville about the two being kind of like
- 24:56Speaker 2: having an acrimonious relationship or whatever. Can they get on
- 24:59Speaker 2: the same page and can they make decisions that are
- 25:01Speaker 2: in the best entries of the team and not individual agendas,
- 25:05Speaker 2: And so whether it's free agency, draft picks or whatever,
- 25:09Speaker 2: everything has to be done with what is best for
- 25:10Speaker 2: the Jaguars in mind, and that requires taking an honest
- 25:14Speaker 2: assessment of the team and where they need to make
- 25:16Speaker 2: improvements to get this team to where we know they
- 25:19Speaker 2: want to go.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We've got plenty ahead. We'll take a time out back
- 25:22Speaker 1: in a moment. We'll hear from Daniel Jeremiah fard of him.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Oh DJ, he joined the podcast.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yes, move the sticks pod right, should be fun. Back
- 25:31Speaker 1: in a moment. We'll hear from him, and then we've
- 25:33Speaker 1: got time a little later fanatics fan questions, Oh, we
- 25:37Speaker 1: put out the cat signal and we've come up with
- 25:39Speaker 1: some good ones.
- 25:41Speaker 5: Cool.
- 25:41Speaker 1: We'll see if we can match that with good answers
- 25:43Speaker 1: as well. That's a little bit later, and this is
- 25:46Speaker 1: jaggs af.
- 25:53Speaker 3: The receiver group. We can say this every year is loaded.
- 25:56Speaker 9: I have twelve in my top fifty which I posted
- 25:59Speaker 9: to the day that the record is eleven receivers going
- 26:02Speaker 9: in the top fifty. That happened twice. One of those
- 26:05Speaker 9: years was nineteen ninety four and the eleventh receiver.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Was Bucky Brooks. How about that. That's a little nugget
- 26:12Speaker 3: for you. Wow.
- 26:13Speaker 9: So I think there's a chance that could go down
- 26:14Speaker 9: this year. I think we could see that many receivers.
- 26:16Speaker 9: It is stacked wide receivers, deep tackles, deep offensive tackles,
- 26:20Speaker 9: deep corner. Has a good amount of depth there. It's
- 26:24Speaker 9: an interesting kind of hero zero draft this year.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Welcome back as Shags A m from the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis,
- 26:35Speaker 1: JP Shadwick, John Oser, and Bucky Brooks. That was Daniel Jeremiah,
- 26:39Speaker 1: NFL Network Draft analyst and the full conversation available now
- 26:43Speaker 1: on Jaguars dot Com. Eleventh receiver that year.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Huh yeah, eleventh receiver and based on the way to
- 26:50Speaker 2: career played that I probably shouldn't have been eleven, Like
- 26:52Speaker 2: I had to go and play deepense.
- 26:54Speaker 5: So I don't even really count.
- 26:56Speaker 2: But versatility, the versatility, But I think it's a great
- 27:01Speaker 2: point what we're seeing, and it's been talked about on
- 27:06Speaker 2: other platforms and other mediums. This is the byproduct of
- 27:09Speaker 2: what we call seven on seven culture. These kids are
- 27:12Speaker 2: being exposed to the passing game earlier. They're having more
- 27:15Speaker 2: reps and more opportunities to catch the ball and do
- 27:19Speaker 2: things where they master the passing game.
- 27:21Speaker 3: And so it's not a surprise that.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Each and every year we see a very deep.
- 27:25Speaker 2: And talented collection of pass catchers make their way to
- 27:27Speaker 2: the league. It's really hopeful because if you're the Jaguars,
- 27:31Speaker 2: you don't have to expend the first round pick to
- 27:33Speaker 2: get a quality wide receiver. Second third round, there would
- 27:35Speaker 2: be people that are available that can come in and contribute.
- 27:38Speaker 5: And so it's a position that you always can keep.
- 27:40Speaker 2: An eye on because you can't find contributors outside of
- 27:42Speaker 2: the first round.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Okay, conceptually, Bucky, does that turn it in terms of
- 27:47Speaker 4: the draft long term? Does that make it sort of
- 27:51Speaker 4: like running back where unless you're special special that it
- 27:56Speaker 4: drives there? It should drives it down.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it should because we talk about some line demand.
- 28:00Speaker 2: If you're having so many talented players that are so
- 28:04Speaker 2: closely graded, it should allow you to go elsewhere for
- 28:07Speaker 2: a position that has a shallower pool to then come
- 28:10Speaker 2: back in and get it in.
- 28:12Speaker 3: When you look at guys like.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Puka Nakula, fifth round pick that comes out of nowhere
- 28:15Speaker 2: and plays at a high level, you think about our
- 28:18Speaker 2: nemesis in our division, Tankdale and what he was able
- 28:21Speaker 2: to do immediately for the Houston Texans, And the list
- 28:24Speaker 2: goes on and on about these receivers that were taken
- 28:26Speaker 2: outside of the first round that popped immediately. Yeah, you
- 28:29Speaker 2: certainly can find receiver outside of the first round that
- 28:33Speaker 2: can come in and be a big time player.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Where are you We've talked a little bit with Charles
- 28:37Speaker 1: about this, but you know, cornerback in this defense, you know,
- 28:43Speaker 1: is it the highest priority? Where would you rank the
- 28:46Speaker 1: priorities of need right now.
- 28:48Speaker 2: For the Jags, I'm always going to op for somewhere
- 28:51Speaker 2: up somebody up front over as opposed to somebody in
- 28:54Speaker 2: the back end, particularly a defensive tackle, because it depending
- 28:58Speaker 2: on how they decide to play. Trayvon Walker ultimately determines
- 29:03Speaker 2: is her edge play player is a guy that moves
- 29:05Speaker 2: inside as a tweener. Do you need another pass rusher
- 29:08Speaker 2: on nickel downs when it's obvious passing situations. A lot
- 29:13Speaker 2: of that will be determined those conversations they have with
- 29:16Speaker 2: Ryan Nilsen what division of the defense is in terms
- 29:19Speaker 2: of the cornerback position. You can get some guys outside
- 29:22Speaker 2: of the first round that can do it, but I
- 29:23Speaker 2: would say the pool that cornerback is deeper than.
- 29:26Speaker 3: The pool at edge rusher.
- 29:28Speaker 2: And so if edge rusher is a priority, like we
- 29:31Speaker 2: think it always is, you got to invest in the
- 29:34Speaker 2: edge rusher or the defensive tackle early, come back and
- 29:36Speaker 2: get the corner later.
- 29:38Speaker 4: And then what do you do interior your offensive line?
- 29:40Speaker 4: I mean, it's always hard because you wish you had
- 29:43Speaker 4: three picks in the top twenty instead of one.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but I would say this, there's some guys that
- 29:48Speaker 2: are intriguing. The conversation revolves around guard and center. There's
- 29:54Speaker 2: been a lot of conversation about center. It's a really
- 29:56Speaker 2: solid center class the guys that you can get, but
- 29:58Speaker 2: also with the offensive guards. You can get those guys.
- 30:02Speaker 2: But you have to remember we're at a time there
- 30:04Speaker 2: where all of these guys are like swing players, meaning
- 30:06Speaker 2: they can play multiple spots. For instance, there's a guy
- 30:10Speaker 2: from Duke coming out grand Board who's a outstanding player,
- 30:13Speaker 2: but he's a tackle, but he also has center experience,
- 30:15Speaker 2: and so trying to find guys that can do multiple things.
- 30:18Speaker 3: That might be the way to go because you start a.
- 30:19Speaker 2: House side kee comm inside try and find a place
- 30:21Speaker 2: for them to be able to put your best five
- 30:23Speaker 2: on the field.
- 30:24Speaker 4: At the same time, Award Mighty used to say, the
- 30:26Speaker 4: kids always should learn how to snap, because you gotta have.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Everybody needs to learn how to snap. Everybody, Hey, everybody snap.
- 30:32Speaker 2: You should be snapping right now during breaks.
- 30:34Speaker 1: We got a minute and a half. I'll learn in
- 30:36Speaker 1: a hurry. We're back in a moment. The fanatics fan
- 30:39Speaker 1: questions and we'll wrap it up after this. From Indianapolis,
- 30:42Speaker 1: this is jags Am.
- 30:57Speaker 10: You know that's an aygoing discussion that we're having with
- 31:00Speaker 10: his agent. In fact, later today I'm gonna have another
- 31:03Speaker 10: meeting with him as well, So just ongoing.
- 31:09Speaker 3: I don't want to speculate on that.
- 31:12Speaker 8: Let's just you know, we got a week, a little
- 31:15Speaker 8: over a week to work with here. We're gonna work
- 31:17Speaker 8: diligently with his agent to try to come to a resolution.
- 31:21Speaker 3: On this thing.
- 31:22Speaker 10: So that's that's where our focus is right now.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Strip Balky of course at the podium yesterday. The full
- 31:30Speaker 1: podium access available at tag wars dot com for both
- 31:33Speaker 1: he and Doug Peterson. Welcome back. It's jags am k P.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Shabrick on oser Bucky Brooks Our thanks to Charles Davis.
- 31:40Speaker 1: That was obviously with the Josh Allen negotiations ongoing, and
- 31:44Speaker 1: that was yesterday. Apparently meetings yesterday with the representation. The
- 31:49Speaker 1: same idea for Calvin Ridley. Bulky said that they met
- 31:53Speaker 1: with Ridley one on one in the office last week,
- 31:55Speaker 1: so that conversation is ongoing, and said don't worry about
- 31:59Speaker 1: the draft picks off as much. They want to get
- 32:01Speaker 1: the player. Yeah, and no matter what that takes. Okay.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Also supposed to meet with Ezra Cleveland's people at some
- 32:07Speaker 4: point this week as well. So that's going on.
- 32:09Speaker 1: A lot happened that time of year. And then what
- 32:11Speaker 1: March fifth is the deadline for the franchise tag book
- 32:14Speaker 1: He the second part of that answer.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so there are a lot of things that you're
- 32:17Speaker 2: trying to juggle. The one thing that everyone needs to
- 32:19Speaker 2: be aware of and this bowls well for the players
- 32:22Speaker 2: and wells as a team. The salary cap going up.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Surprising number goes up by thirty million dollars, and so
- 32:28Speaker 2: that opens up opportunities to do some things. So, for instance,
- 32:33Speaker 2: we kind of thought that maybe Cam Robinson would be
- 32:35Speaker 2: gone when now the cap goes up, that conversation has
- 32:38Speaker 2: kind of shifted a little bit, which helps the team
- 32:40Speaker 2: in terms of that having the harmony, the continuity on
- 32:44Speaker 2: the offensive line. The number going up also helps when
- 32:47Speaker 2: it comes to trying to fit in a bigger contract
- 32:49Speaker 2: with Josh Allen and maybe Calvin Ridley. How does it go?
- 32:53Speaker 2: You have to be optimistic if these things are going
- 32:55Speaker 2: to shift. The Calvin Ridley conversation changes though, because t
- 32:59Speaker 2: Higgins sign into franchise Tag, what's Nail available on the
- 33:03Speaker 2: free agent market?
- 33:04Speaker 3: Say what you want about him?
- 33:06Speaker 2: He now becomes a more and more key free agent,
- 33:09Speaker 2: and so that could be that could cost a few
- 33:11Speaker 2: more coins to retain a service.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Yeah, can let him go all of a sudden, You're
- 33:14Speaker 4: trying to replace eight touchdowns in a thousand yards.
- 33:16Speaker 1: So I.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Like that eight touchdowns one thousand.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Who doesn't. Time now for the Fanatics

- 33:38Speaker 1: put the cat signal out earlier last night. Here's the
- 33:41Speaker 1: best we've come up with at climber Yoda two five
- 33:44Speaker 1: eight eight nine. What are the chances of bringing to
- 33:46Speaker 1: Neil Hunter and keeping Josh Allen as well? Seeing a
- 33:49Speaker 1: few reports that link us to Hunter.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Look, that would be great, but you're gonna have to
- 33:54Speaker 2: give up something to get him. But it would be
- 33:56Speaker 2: fantastic to be able to pair Josh Allen with Daniel
- 33:59Speaker 2: Hunter and to have Trademon Walker, because to win at
- 34:02Speaker 2: the highest level you need to have three pass rushes,
- 34:04Speaker 2: two outside, one inside. That would allow you to kick
- 34:07Speaker 2: Trademon Walking inside on some of those special downs.
- 34:09Speaker 3: I would like it but now can you pull it off?
- 34:11Speaker 3: That would be the bigger thing.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been rumored for a long time. With rumors
- 34:17Speaker 4: like that, I tend to take a let's see if
- 34:19Speaker 4: it actually happens, because you can get lost in a
- 34:22Speaker 4: million of these things. Would it makes sense?
- 34:24Speaker 3: Sure?
- 34:24Speaker 4: But like Bucky said, can they pull it off with?
- 34:28Speaker 4: You know, do you want to give up the equity
- 34:30Speaker 4: either cap equity or if it takes trade. I don't know.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I don't know either. Next question at No Hobby two,
- 34:41Speaker 1: why are they so defensive of the offensive line?
- 34:46Speaker 4: Well, I'll tell you this from first back, I said
- 34:48Speaker 4: answers all the time. There's no gain to not talking
- 34:54Speaker 4: positively about the guys in media availabilitiest media availability situation.
- 35:00Speaker 4: And you can say what you want, Okay, you've got
- 35:03Speaker 4: to replace the center, you got to replace this guard. Well,
- 35:06Speaker 4: then if you get to the draft and you don't
- 35:08Speaker 4: like what you're trying to replace and it doesn't quite
- 35:11Speaker 4: work out, well, then you criticize something for no reason.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So they know that there's spots, Doug said yesterday, there's
- 35:20Speaker 4: places where Luke Fordner's got to get better. There's places
- 35:23Speaker 4: where every being alfason. It's got to get better. But
- 35:26Speaker 4: you defend in this situation because as a coach in
- 35:29Speaker 4: a GM, there's no reason not to.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Absolutely, he doesn't want to put throw his guys under
- 35:33Speaker 2: the bus, regardless of what those internal discussions have been,
- 35:36Speaker 2: he TRIMBALKI the players, I mean the coaching staff and
- 35:39Speaker 2: the personnel staff, they understand where they have to go,
- 35:41Speaker 2: but it's not for public consumption.
- 35:43Speaker 3: That's why you don't want to do it.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Because if you pus them out there and then they're
- 35:46Speaker 2: unable to pull off the plan that they have in place, well,
- 35:49Speaker 2: now you've got to play a disgruntaled player, a player
- 35:51Speaker 2: who doesn't have the confidence of the coaches.
- 35:53Speaker 3: He knows that it just makes it for a more
- 35:55Speaker 3: difficult thing.
- 35:56Speaker 2: It is better to just put the positive spin on
- 35:59Speaker 2: it and to tack that situation later.
- 36:01Speaker 4: But you can tell from the way they've talked they
- 36:05Speaker 4: know the line needs to get better. It's not like
- 36:07Speaker 4: they're sticking their head in the sand on it. But
- 36:09Speaker 4: there's a certain way that you talk about these things
- 36:11Speaker 4: when you talk about it in this time of year.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yeah, let was talk yesterday that you know, the line
- 36:16Speaker 1: that they thought would be the starting line played one
- 36:18Speaker 1: game together. Yeah, last year, the continuity mattered a lot,
- 36:22Speaker 1: or lack of it for the lack of success up there.
- 36:25Speaker 5: I mean, you certainly had a big impact on you.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Just the best offensive lines play together the snap at
- 36:31Speaker 2: the snap at the snap, and we just didn't see
- 36:32Speaker 2: that level of consistency last year.
- 36:34Speaker 4: One the Doug's point, especially on the left side, he didn't,
- 36:37Speaker 4: So that's what really destroyed that that side of the
- 36:40Speaker 4: line for that season. Doug talked about that all.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Game final question at jbsnsley. How will Peterson evaluate the
- 36:47Speaker 1: offensive play calling and make a decision moving ahead? What
- 36:50Speaker 1: does that process entail?
- 36:52Speaker 3: Oh?
- 36:52Speaker 2: I mean, I think you go through the entire offseason,
- 36:54Speaker 2: You go back, you've looked at all the games, You
- 36:57Speaker 2: continue to let Press work at it, You do all
- 36:59Speaker 2: the things, you get into preseason maybe preseason games, and kind.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Of go through the process and see how it's going.
- 37:06Speaker 3: He'll know when.
- 37:06Speaker 5: He needs to make that decision whether he needs.
- 37:08Speaker 2: To jump in or if he can trust Press to
- 37:10Speaker 2: continue to go with it. I think it's an ongoing
- 37:12Speaker 2: development that we have to monitor.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know that we'll know the exact process
- 37:18Speaker 4: because for Doug, a lot of it maybe feel meaning, Hey,
- 37:22Speaker 4: I like what I like what's going on. Defensively, I
- 37:27Speaker 4: like how this game situation got handled last year with
- 37:31Speaker 4: a chance to reflect, maybe he does feel more comfortable
- 37:34Speaker 4: about what Charles and Bucky were talking about. Hey, I'm
- 37:38Speaker 4: gonna let Press do it. But then there's gonna be
- 37:40Speaker 4: situations where there's a means where I can come in
- 37:43Speaker 4: and take over. So I think the process is just study, evaluation, conversations.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You have it, fanatics, fan questions are in that'll dole
- 37:52Speaker 1: bit for our show today, We've got Jack's Happy Hour Thursday,
