Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
• 0:04
Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
• 0:06
Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
• 0:12
Speaker 1: Hey guys, and welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
• 0:15
Speaker 1: I am super excited for this episode. We have another
• 0:18
Speaker 1: amazing guest coming on and sharing their story, so let's
• 0:22
  Speaker 1: get into it.
• 0:23
Speaker 2: I'm actually particularly excited for this episode because it's not
• 0:27
  Speaker 2: a sorority girl, it's a sorority girl's mom. Oh, and
• 0:31
Speaker 2: I am dying to hear your perspective. Christa, Hello, Hi there, No,
• 0:38
Speaker 2: I really am excited to talk to you. We all are,
• 0:41
Speaker 2: but we want to know from you your experience and
• 0:45
Speaker 2: maybe not your particular experience, but the experience that you've
• 0:48
Speaker 2: gone through as a mother of a girl going through
• 0:52
Speaker 2: the process of rush.
• 0:53
Speaker 3: Well, first off, I want to be clear, I was
• 0:56
Speaker 3: in a sorority, so yeah, right, I'm not only am mom,
• 1:00
Speaker 3: but I was in a sorority myself, which was four
• 1:03
Speaker 3: hundred years ago, back in the day when it was
• 1:06
Speaker 3: easy to get in, and you got in it was
• 1:08
Speaker 3: whether or not you wanted to be in. And now,
• 1:10
Speaker 3: as a mom to three girls who've all joined sororities,
• 1:15
Speaker 3: my perspective is completely different, and it's been such a
• 1:19
Speaker 3: different experience being on the other side and seeing how
• 1:21
Speaker 3: difficult it is today and actually how brutal it is.
• 1:25
Speaker 3: So as a mom, I would never do it myself now,
• 1:30
Speaker 3: but I'm probably my girls were going through such an
• 1:33
Speaker 3: ugly process to get to the other side.
• 1:36
Speaker 4: Can you tell us a little bit about what their
• 1:38
Speaker 4: experience was and what made it so ugly?
• 1:42
Speaker 5: Before you start? If I could ask, where did you
• 1:45
  Speaker 5: go to school?
• 1:46
Speaker 3: So? I went to a small school in northern California
• 1:48
Speaker 3: called University of the Pacific, very with I think only
• 1:52
Speaker 3: four sororities, and they were all probably great. You know,
• 1:56
Speaker 3: you had your top tier. You thought one was the
• 1:58
Speaker 3: best one and one was this, but everyone had different opinion.
• 2:01
Speaker 5: I was the best one, but you know, but you know, it.
• 2:06
Speaker 3: Was a whole different period where you just I felt
• 2:09
Speaker 3: like it was up to me to choose, not up
• 2:11
Speaker 3: to them to choose me.
• 2:13
Speaker 5: Love that, which is probably as it should be, right feeling.
• 2:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, it wasn't like that with your daughters.
• 2:19
  Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, where.
• 2:22
Speaker 3: You wanted to know about the girls? So my oldest
• 2:25
Speaker 3: girl daughter went to a school in the South. I'd
• 2:30
Speaker 3: rather not name it, but it is in Dallas and
• 2:34
Speaker 3: it was well known for having a particularly brutal sorority rush,
• 2:40
Speaker 3: very competitive. There was a book written about it called
• 2:43
Speaker 3: I Believe Pledged, written by an undercover reporter who went
• 2:47
Speaker 3: through rush at the school. And for decades they've done
• 2:50
Speaker 3: something called the Pig Run. And it's called the pig
• 2:54
Speaker 3: Run because the girls who make it to the very
• 2:57
Speaker 3: last night, and that is few and far between. Hundreds
• 2:59
Speaker 3: and hundreds are cut and it's not a huge school,
• 3:02
Speaker 3: so in that you know, that percentage seems very high
• 3:06
Speaker 3: at the time because they have very limited spots for
• 3:08
Speaker 3: the stories. But either way, on the mid day night
• 3:12
Speaker 3: they do it. At nighttime, they have the girls sit
• 3:16
Speaker 3: on an envelope and they, you know, tell them that
• 3:18
Speaker 3: whatever happens when they open that envelope, they're either going
• 3:21
Speaker 3: to get what they want, not get what they want,
• 3:23
Speaker 3: or not get anything at all. But either way they
• 3:26
Speaker 3: must stand up, line up, and then they run from
• 3:29
Speaker 3: that door through the middle of campus, where they are
• 3:32
Speaker 3: filmed by local TV stations. The entire community comes out.
• 3:36
Speaker 3: All of the moms are there for rush. That's one
• 3:38
Speaker 3: of the weird things about the school is the mom's
• 3:41
Speaker 3: attend rush. I've never heard of that before. But you
• 3:44
Speaker 3: have girls sobbing and cryings they didn't get a house.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: You have girls crying because they didn't get the house
• 3:49
Speaker 3: they want, and then you have girls who are elated
• 3:52
Speaker 3: because they got their dream house. And all of it
• 3:56
Speaker 3: happens at once, and all of them run together. The crying,
• 3:58
Speaker 3: the laughing and screaming parents.
• 4:01
Speaker 2: I honestly think that that should be illegal.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: It s the same in white T shirts and the
• 4:08
Speaker 3: boys throw like water ballonsm and spram and it's It's
• 4:12
Speaker 3: called the Big Run for a reason. And I can't
• 4:15
Speaker 3: think of anything worse.
• 4:17
Speaker 2: Were you there? Did you?
• 4:19
Speaker 3: Yeah? I went, and after that told anyone I knew
• 4:21
Speaker 3: whose daughter went there not to go because I had
• 4:25
Speaker 3: such a bad experience. But at the same time, it's
• 4:27
Speaker 3: so hard on these girls that having your mom there
• 4:29
Speaker 3: probably is nice. So I don't know what the right
• 4:31
Speaker 3: answer is for me. It was, I mean, I had
• 4:34
Speaker 3: PTSD for weeks after I was. I was, I was crying.
• 4:39
Speaker 3: It's so weird, how now that look back on how
• 4:41
Speaker 3: seriously I took it. But my dog didn't get her
• 4:45
Speaker 3: the house she initially wanted, but she ended up getting
• 4:46
Speaker 3: the house she should have gotten. It just was she
• 4:50
Speaker 3: didn't know what she was doing, and she got a house,
• 4:52
Speaker 3: but plenty of her friends didn't get anything, and they
• 4:54
Speaker 3: still had to run. And if I if she hadn't
• 4:57
Speaker 3: gotten anything, it probably would have been worse than it was.
• 4:59
Speaker 3: But it was altogether, probably one of the worst experiences
• 5:02
Speaker 3: I've ever seen in my life.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: There are reporters there like recording these girls that are devastated.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: Local TV stations just because it's such a fun event
• 5:11
Speaker 3: and it's a tradition, and you know, they all do
• 5:14
Speaker 3: it and it's been going on for, like I said, decades.
• 5:17
Speaker 3: They used to call it U haul Day because tuition
• 5:20
Speaker 3: wasn't due until the day after rush, so if a
• 5:24
Speaker 3: girl didn't make a story, then she would quit school,
• 5:26
Speaker 3: load the U haul and drive off. But now they
• 5:30
Speaker 3: moved a tuition date to write before you hear whether
• 5:33
Speaker 3: or not you got a sorority. And actually I heard
• 5:35
Speaker 3: recently may have moved sorority rush to second semester, which
• 5:41
Speaker 3: was probably a little bit better because girls, or back
• 5:43
Speaker 3: to first semester. I can't remember which one they moved
• 5:46
Speaker 3: it to, but either way, the U haul Day is
• 5:49
Speaker 3: no longer a thing. They tuition is required prior to
• 5:52
  Speaker 3: finding out.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: Procrastinators rejoice, the early bird is not the only one
• 6:06
Speaker 2: who gets the worm. Verbo offers last minute deals for
• 6:09
Speaker 2: private vacation rentals. Verbo's last Minute deals are live on
• 6:13
Speaker 2: the Verbo app and website, showing travelers nearly three hundred
• 6:17
Speaker 2: thousand discounted properties they can book within thirty days of
• 6:20
Speaker 2: check in. A few destinations with plenty of last minute
• 6:23
Speaker 2: booking options include Hilton Head, South Carolina, Cape cod Massachusetts,
• 6:29
Speaker 2: San Diego, Porta, Iarta, and of course, the fabulous Lake Tahoe,
• 6:33
Speaker 2: where we are recording this episode inside a gorgeous Verbo.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: Finding these deals is simple with the Last Minute Booking Filter,
• 6:41
Speaker 2: an industry first for vacation rentals. Discounted vacation rentals are
• 6:45
Speaker 2: also labeled with a last minute badge that displays the
• 6:48
Speaker 2: total amount travelers can save on their booking. Plus, travelers
• 6:53
Speaker 2: never have to second guess the total cost or worry
• 6:55
Speaker 2: about hidden fees. Verbo displays all mandatory fees in the
• 7:00
  Speaker 2: upfront price.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: I feel like just going to those extents is crazy
• 7:08
Speaker 1: because I went to Rutgers University, so big ten and
• 7:12
Speaker 1: the Greek life wasn't nearly as big as it was
• 7:14
Speaker 1: in the South, but we had something similar, but the.
• 7:21
Speaker 5: It wasn't similar at all.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: Like we were all in a I guess auditorium, and
• 7:27
Speaker 1: we opened up our envelopes and saw which sorority house
• 7:31
Speaker 1: we got into, and then the sorority house that we
• 7:34
Speaker 1: got into, everyone ran home, so you would run home
• 7:37
Speaker 1: to your houses. But it wasn't like there were any
• 7:41
Speaker 1: acts of malicious intent being thrown in our faces, or
• 7:47
Speaker 1: at least not to my knowledge that I remember that
• 7:50
Speaker 1: that was happening. I mean, definitely no news channels outside.
• 7:55
Speaker 1: There was not other fraternity brothers throwing water balloons at us.
• 8:00
Speaker 1: Like that's just another level.
• 8:02
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's how mine was too. Like it wasn't.
• 8:04
  Speaker 5: An extremely reveal.
• 8:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like it was just like girls and
• 8:08
Speaker 4: then if you didn't get in one, you didn't like
• 8:11
Speaker 4: see everyone else. I think they had us like run
• 8:13
Speaker 4: I'm like trying to remember they had us like run
• 8:15
Speaker 4: through in groups, Like if I was in Alpha FE,
• 8:17
Speaker 4: so I ran through with all the girls that got
• 8:19
Speaker 4: Alfy did your daughter because she said she got one,
• 8:23
Speaker 4: did she end up staying in that and did she
• 8:25
Speaker 4: end up liking it or no, I think.
• 8:27
Speaker 3: She liked it for a little while. After a while
• 8:29
Speaker 3: she didn't like it. But the crazy thing was, it
• 8:31
Speaker 3: was such a big deal to get into certain houses,
• 8:33
Speaker 3: and you know, some of them were overly hyped up.
• 8:37
Speaker 3: And at the end of the day, after it was
• 8:40
Speaker 3: all over, she still hung out with the girls in
• 8:42
Speaker 3: different houses. They all hung out together. It wasn't like
• 8:45
Speaker 3: it was changing their life for the better or worse
• 8:47
Speaker 3: depending on which else they got in. I think that
• 8:49
Speaker 3: was a huge lesson for me and hopefully for her,
• 8:52
Speaker 3: but that it didn't matter. It didn't matter you got
• 8:56
Speaker 3: into a house, you didn't get a new house, you
• 8:57
Speaker 3: got in the top house, you got in the second
• 8:59
Speaker 3: top house, or at the end of the day, it
• 9:01
Speaker 3: all hung out thegether anyway.
• 9:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, tell us about the dynamics or so all. What
• 9:06
Speaker 2: do the mothers do? They're there for what the week?
• 9:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a pretty short process, as opposed to say Indiana,
• 9:12
Speaker 3: where another one of my kids went, which goes on
• 9:14
Speaker 3: for about six weeks. I think this was about a
• 9:17
Speaker 3: week and you check into a hotel, so all the
• 9:20
Speaker 3: moms stay in a hotel. And I were originally from
• 9:25
Speaker 3: California and so I didn't know about rush coaches at
• 9:28
Speaker 3: the time, but when I checked into hotel, I noticed
• 9:31
Speaker 3: there were racks of clothes coming in and makeup artists
• 9:34
Speaker 3: and tanning people, and people were saying, Oh, when's your
• 9:37
Speaker 3: rush coach coming, And I'm like, oh, shoot, rush coach.
• 9:41
Speaker 3: So that was a lesson to learn about the process.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: In the South, they take it very seriously.
• 9:46
Speaker 5: If you don't mind me asking how long ago was this.
• 9:49
Speaker 1: I graduated two years Okay, see, I graduated two years ago,
• 9:53
Speaker 1: and I this is like a different language.
• 9:56
Speaker 5: I've never heard of this in my life.
• 9:57
Speaker 3: Okay, maybe it's in the South, but I know.
• 10:00
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 10:00
Speaker 3: Also at Indiana they have rush coaches, so I don't know.
• 10:03
Speaker 3: These rush coaches start girls as early as eighth grade,
• 10:06
Speaker 3: teaching them how to get through the rush process, what
• 10:09
Speaker 3: they need to get into quote unquote they top to
• 10:12
Speaker 3: your house or whatever.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: I'm going to pukel it in my mouth. I can't,
• 10:16
  Speaker 2: I can't listen. I was in a sorority. I know
• 10:18
Speaker 2: how wonderful the experience can be. And I know you
• 10:21
Speaker 2: guys loved it once I was in I you know,
• 10:24
Speaker 2: you make lifelong friends all of that, But you're killing
• 10:27
Speaker 2: me here with the mothers with the racks of clothes
• 10:29
  Speaker 2: and hairdressers and whoa, that's a lot and it's a
• 10:34
Speaker 2: lot of money. But how did you feel about it
• 10:37
Speaker 2: when you like, was your daughter like, mommy wear are
• 10:39
  Speaker 2: my clothes?
• 10:40
  Speaker 3: Was you know?
• 10:41
Speaker 2: What was that like for you?
• 10:42
Speaker 3: Think so mind blowing that part of me was thinking,
• 10:44
Speaker 3: We're not falling for this stuff. This is stupid. I'm
• 10:47
Speaker 3: not doing it. And part of me is thinking, while
• 10:49
Speaker 3: we really missed the boat, I need to get a
• 10:51
Speaker 3: pair of Gucci shoes immediately. And the fact that the
• 10:53
Speaker 3: airmate's belt, she's not going to make the house like
• 10:55
Speaker 3: you start thinking crazy thoughts. I mean, we didn't get
• 10:59
Speaker 3: to the airmate's belt. We can go to the shoes. But
• 11:00
Speaker 3: I was thinking, have I screwed my daughter out of
• 11:04
Speaker 3: this happiness for the rest of her life? And oh
• 11:06
Speaker 3: my god, I'm thinking if I'm getting wrapped up like
• 11:09
Speaker 3: that in a week, what is it doing to the girls?
• 11:13
Speaker 2: It's like I have friends that made the decision not
• 11:17
Speaker 2: to hire college counselors. We did do that, and then
• 11:21
Speaker 2: look back on it like maybe my kid would have
• 11:23
Speaker 2: gotten into their first choice had I spent the five
• 11:26
Speaker 2: thousand dollars I don't know, but this it's so interesting
• 11:30
Speaker 2: that I could see that you would feel both like,
• 11:34
Speaker 2: you know, just nauseated and at the same time pressured
• 11:37
Speaker 2: to do it right.
• 11:39
Speaker 1: Right, because I feel like, at the same time, you know,
• 11:41
Speaker 1: watching the other parents do it, you don't want to
• 11:43
Speaker 1: fail your daughter right, and you don't want to let
• 11:46
  Speaker 1: your daughter down.
• 11:47
Speaker 5: But in retrospect, looking.
• 11:50
Speaker 1: Back at it, I mean, I know, you realize that
• 11:53
Speaker 1: it's obviously insane and completely.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: Oh for sure, and luckily shoes my first. So I
• 11:59
Speaker 3: think after the trauma passed and I realized, oh my god,
• 12:03
Speaker 3: I think I just went a little crazy, and as
• 12:05
Speaker 3: did my daughter when the next one went through rush.
• 12:08
Speaker 3: I mean, I was so nervous for her that I
• 12:11
Speaker 3: made her care package to open every single day, like
• 12:13
Speaker 3: you're gonna do great and we love you no matter what,
• 12:16
Speaker 3: and she's like, are you insane? She opened up each
• 12:19
Speaker 3: package and was like what is this for? She sailed
• 12:22
Speaker 3: straight through, had all her top choices, was like, I
• 12:24
Speaker 3: don't know what you're talking about. And it was great.
• 12:27
Speaker 3: So then by night time I got to my third
• 12:29
Speaker 3: I thought, well, I'm not gonna do the car. That's stupid.
• 12:32
Speaker 3: I don't need to worry. It's obviously it was just
• 12:34
Speaker 3: it was just the southern schools. And it ended up
• 12:37
Speaker 3: the year my daughter went through Sority rush at Iu.
• 12:40
Speaker 3: It was. It ended up being the most difficult rush
• 12:45
Speaker 3: in America that year, and thousands of kids were cut
• 12:49
Speaker 3: and many many kids transferred, and it was a really
• 12:52
Speaker 3: it went viral on TikTok and she didn't make a house,
• 12:56
Speaker 3: and she ended up making house the next time around.
• 13:00
Speaker 3: But I was once again, I felt like I had
• 13:03
Speaker 3: failed her. I felt like a failure. I felt sad
• 13:06
Speaker 3: for her. She's they missed out on her because she's amazing,
• 13:10
Speaker 3: But it was just two many numbers. She didn't know anyone.
• 13:13
Speaker 3: She came from California. There aren't a lot of Californians
• 13:15
Speaker 3: and she didn't stand a chance at the beginning. And
• 13:18
Speaker 3: I might here we go again. Should I have done
• 13:20
  Speaker 3: the other stuff?
• 13:22
Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's a lot. That is a lot.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: How does she handle the rejection?
• 13:28
Speaker 3: I think once she realized that literally over a thousand
• 13:31
Speaker 3: kids had been cut that in the final rounds, she
• 13:34
Speaker 3: felt a lot better and she knew other people who
• 13:36
Speaker 3: had been cut. And I think it took a while.
• 13:39
Speaker 3: I mean, she was pretty sad in the beginning, but
• 13:41
Speaker 3: I think she was able to rationalize that she really
• 13:44
Speaker 3: knew nobody, and if you don't know people in the houses,
• 13:46
Speaker 3: it's difficult to get in the houses, and she needed
• 13:50
Speaker 3: to meet people, and so she did and she's now
• 13:53
Speaker 3: happy and she's living in her sorority and this year
• 13:55
Speaker 3: and you know, it's all good. But I think we
• 13:59
Speaker 3: thought that would be an easy school. And I do
• 14:01
Speaker 3: think that when she chose it, she chose it because
• 14:04
Speaker 3: she was never going to go to a Southern school
• 14:06
Speaker 3: where it was really difficult. So, I mean, her brothers
• 14:09
Speaker 3: were in fraternities, and some of them in the South,
• 14:11
Speaker 3: the boys who went to the southern schools, that was
• 14:14
Speaker 3: pretty brutal too. That was dirty rushing. You're in before
• 14:19
Speaker 3: the rush even starts. They've already decided their entire pledge
• 14:22
Speaker 3: class weeks before the schools announced. Welcome to fraternity rush.
• 14:28
Speaker 3: It's done. You're already out from social media. You don't know.
• 14:30
  Speaker 3: You don't know.
• 14:31
Speaker 2: Is it from social media that they choose.
• 14:34
Speaker 3: No, they fly out all you know, parties. But if
• 14:38
Speaker 3: you don't know and you weren't invited and you don't
• 14:40
Speaker 3: know who to talk to to be invited, you would
• 14:43
Speaker 3: show up and there would be no room for you
• 14:44
Speaker 3: in any of the fraternitys because they already they'd spent
• 14:47
Speaker 3: the whole summer rushing people. Wow, and supposedly the girls
• 14:53
Speaker 3: do it too now, And I think that was the
• 14:55
Speaker 3: lesson we missed. Is it starts before it starts.
• 14:59
Speaker 2: I mean, listen, you didn't go to college in the South.
• 15:02
Speaker 2: I did, but like Christa, about ten million years ago,
• 15:06
Speaker 2: and my mother didn't even know what it already was.
• 15:11
Speaker 2: And I'm happy for it. I cannot imagine. And I
• 15:15
Speaker 2: my daughter went to Delaware, it was none of this.
• 15:18
Speaker 2: She rushed during COVID. I feel for you, sister, not easy.
• 15:23
  Speaker 3: I feel for the girls. I mean, I think it's
• 15:26
Speaker 3: getting worse and not better from what I'm hearing. I mean,
• 15:28
Speaker 3: because of TikTok with Alabama and yeah, you know, all
• 15:31
Speaker 3: of the dances and the overhyping of it, and it's
• 15:35
Speaker 3: just the end all to be all. But at the
• 15:36
Speaker 3: end of the day, it's it's a great thing. It
• 15:38
Speaker 3: fills a niche, you get to meet people, make friends,
• 15:40
Speaker 3: hopefully friends for life. But at the many girls end
• 15:43
Speaker 3: up quitting well before their senior year. I mean, it's
• 15:46
Speaker 3: not as not what they thought it was going to be,
• 15:49
Speaker 3: or they got enough out of it along the way
• 15:51
Speaker 3: already made their friends, or they can't afford it, or
• 15:53
  Speaker 3: whatever the reason.
• 15:54
Speaker 5: And I think that all plays.
• 15:57
Speaker 1: I think that all plays into it because once you
• 16:00
Speaker 1: go through at least first and second semester, in that
• 16:03
Speaker 1: first year of receiving your big and going through mid
• 16:06
Speaker 1: day and having all these happy moments, you come to
• 16:09
Speaker 1: the realization of Okay, I have my friend group, I
• 16:13
Speaker 1: know my way around, I can get into the parties,
• 16:16
Speaker 1: everything is fine. And then people do realize, Okay, maybe
• 16:19
Speaker 1: this isn't worth the money, or this isn't worth the time,
• 16:22
Speaker 1: or I don't want to keep going to these activities
• 16:25
Speaker 1: or schools picking up. There's so many aspects of it.
• 16:29
Speaker 3: Or I don't like the rules because there are a
• 16:30
  Speaker 3: lot of rules.
• 16:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, one hundred percent.
• 16:32
Speaker 1: There's so many high senior where so many people drop
• 16:35
  Speaker 1: before graduating.
• 16:51
Speaker 4: Well, so I only had one more class to take
• 16:53
Speaker 4: because I was like ahead because of high school. But
• 16:55
Speaker 4: then I was like, I really like, I have all
• 16:57
Speaker 4: my friends, I don't really need it. It was also
• 16:59
Speaker 4: COVID and they were trying to make me pay. I
• 17:03
Speaker 4: was going abroad junior year. I actually dropped the end
• 17:05
Speaker 4: of my junior year because I was going abroad and
• 17:08
Speaker 4: I got someone to fill my spot in the house,
• 17:10
Speaker 4: and they were still trying to make me pay for
• 17:12
Speaker 4: my spot in the house, and I was like, Okay,
• 17:14
  Speaker 4: I'm out.
• 17:15
Speaker 1: It's also just silly for the long run when you
• 17:18
Speaker 1: do drop after spending all that money for so many years,
• 17:21
Speaker 1: because then you don't put it on your resume.
• 17:23
Speaker 5: I mean, you could, but then if.
• 17:24
Speaker 1: They contact your sorority, it's like she's no longer a member.
• 17:29
Speaker 3: But how much do you really think? I mean, I
• 17:31
Speaker 3: was a recruiter out of college and hired people for jobs.
• 17:34
Speaker 3: There wasn't one person I hired because they were in
• 17:36
  Speaker 3: a sorority.
• 17:37
Speaker 2: Do people do that?
• 17:38
Speaker 3: Now? Do they do?
• 17:39
  Speaker 5: They can?
• 17:40
Speaker 3: I've never heard of that putting it on your resume.
• 17:43
Speaker 3: I know people do.
• 17:43
Speaker 1: I just don't think the biggest thing, also, people say
• 17:46
Speaker 1: to join a sorority is to put it on your
• 17:47
Speaker 1: resume really good. And then especially if joining a sorority,
• 17:51
Speaker 1: if you did something for.
• 17:53
Speaker 5: Exact right, then that also the treasure.
• 17:56
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 17:56
  Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, so.
• 17:57
Speaker 1: Then there's certain things that obviously look good for your resume.
• 18:00
Speaker 1: But I'm really sorry that you had all of those
• 18:03
Speaker 1: experiences with your daughters. I mean, that's definitely not easy
• 18:06
  Speaker 1: as a mom. I don't I know that my mom
• 18:08
Speaker 1: would probably not know what Yeah, okay, my mom wouldn't
• 18:13
Speaker 1: know what to do with herself. But what do you
• 18:16
Speaker 1: think was the difference between your second daughter and then
• 18:19
Speaker 1: your first and your third?
• 18:20
Speaker 5: Where did your second daughter go to school?
• 18:22
Speaker 3: So second doar went to Boulder. I think it's just
• 18:24
Speaker 3: a much more relaxed rush experience. But she had something
• 18:30
Speaker 3: like one hundred and twenty five hundred and thirty girls
• 18:32
Speaker 3: in her pledge class, so they take a lot more girls.
• 18:35
Speaker 3: You don't obviously all have the opportunity to live in
• 18:38
  Speaker 3: the house. It's a lot bigger. I don't think she'll
• 18:40
Speaker 3: ever know the names of all the people in her
• 18:42
Speaker 3: pledge class, whereas my first daughter was probably like forty
• 18:45
Speaker 3: or fifty girls in her pledge class and my youngest
• 18:47
Speaker 3: star was probably only twenty five. So just completely different
• 18:53
Speaker 3: experiences across the board, different schools. You know, we're talking
• 18:56
Speaker 3: the South, you know, Boulder, Colorado and then Indiana, so
• 19:02
Speaker 3: such different locations. The Boulder girl went new a ton
• 19:06
Speaker 3: of people because a lot of kids from California go there,
• 19:09
Speaker 3: so she had a lag up just with that with
• 19:11
Speaker 3: knowing people, which I think is the number one thing
• 19:13
Speaker 3: you need going into a sorority, because.
• 19:16
Speaker 1: Then you can have you can have people vouch for
• 19:18
Speaker 1: you during the recruitment process.
• 19:20
Speaker 2: We are thrilled that you are you've joined us, and
• 19:23
Speaker 2: it's such a great insight just to hear not only
• 19:26
Speaker 2: you know, the running of the pigs or whatever what
• 19:29
Speaker 2: is it called? That horrible, horrible name, but harms talent,
• 19:33
Speaker 2: just sharing because I think that a lot of our
• 19:35
Speaker 2: listeners are going to be able to relate not feel
• 19:39
  Speaker 2: quite so alone.
• 19:40
Speaker 1: But then I think a lot of our new listeners
• 19:42
Speaker 1: coming on are going to be so grateful to hear
• 19:44
Speaker 1: your story because this is really going to help a
• 19:47
Speaker 1: lot of you know, upcoming freshmen and just girls that
• 19:50
Speaker 1: are thinking about rushing and.
• 19:52
Speaker 5: It'll maybe make or break where they choose to go.
• 19:55
Speaker 1: To school, because it's a lot of pression moms too well.
• 19:58
Speaker 3: And I think that it takes way though no matter
• 20:00
Speaker 3: where they go to school, is that it always works
• 20:03
Speaker 3: out in the end. These these girls maybe that school
• 20:06
Speaker 3: wasn't right from they end up transferring or the story
• 20:08
Speaker 3: they didn't get into wasn't right for them. The one
• 20:10
Speaker 3: they did get into ended up being the best place
• 20:13
Speaker 3: for them. It seems to always work out. You can
• 20:15
Speaker 3: rush again, you can transfer and rush. I mean, there
• 20:18
Speaker 3: are many options, and so I don't think putting all
• 20:22
Speaker 3: your eggs in one basket is the way to go.
• 20:25
Speaker 2: Listen to what this very wise woman is saying, listeners,
• 20:28
Speaker 2: please say it one more time.
• 20:31
Speaker 3: Which part don't put all your eggs in one basket.
• 20:33
Speaker 5: No, everything will work, Everything will work itself out.
• 20:37
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 20:37
Speaker 2: On that note, thank you for coming on.
• 20:40
Speaker 3: You have a great day.
• 20:44
  Speaker 5: Thank you, Christa.
• 20:46
Speaker 1: I would never want my daughter to experience or go
• 20:49
Speaker 1: through that. I also just think that's a horrible experience
• 20:51
Speaker 1: in general, to go through sorority rush like that. I
• 20:55
Speaker 1: feel like that just paints such an image that you
• 21:00
Speaker 1: need to be at this standard to be accepted. What
• 21:06
Speaker 1: if you can't afford an ermaz bell or Gucci slu
• 21:10
Speaker 1: or Gucci sides or Guccie sandals, your mom is supposed
• 21:13
Speaker 1: to feel obligated to go and get that for you,
• 21:15
Speaker 1: to make you get into a sorority.
• 21:18
  Speaker 2: I mean, I was, I said to her, It's just.
• 21:20
Speaker 5: The most bogus thing I've ever heard in my life.
• 21:22
Speaker 2: I said, your mom, your mom, Daisy, your mom. Me,
• 21:25
Speaker 2: as a mom, I would become so incensed if my daughter,
• 21:29
Speaker 2: if they were running and my daughter was running at it,
• 21:32
Speaker 2: it would get violent. I would become I would lose
• 21:35
  Speaker 2: my mind right.
• 21:37
Speaker 1: One thousand percent. But then even just seeing the pressure
• 21:40
Speaker 1: of being in a hotel room and seeing other moms
• 21:42
Speaker 1: come in with all of this stuff, I completely understand
• 21:47
Speaker 1: what she was saying. Feeling the pressure of oh, should
• 21:50
Speaker 1: I have gotten her this, or should I have gotten
• 21:52
Speaker 1: her a makeup artist? Like that is just not sorority rush.
• 21:57
Speaker 1: That is like, that is the craziest thing in the world.
• 22:00
Speaker 2: I'm glad that wasn't either one of your experiences.
• 22:02
Speaker 4: No, it's almost to me it kind of seems like
• 22:07
Speaker 4: maybe like the moms are the one that's making it
• 22:10
  Speaker 4: so insane.
• 22:12
Speaker 1: I agree, because then also, I mean, look at these
• 22:15
Speaker 1: pageant moms. Yeah, these daughters grow up doing pageants. It's
• 22:20
Speaker 1: not the daughter's choice. I mean, yeah, okay, they get
• 22:23
Speaker 1: you know, I'm sure they're excited to get in their
• 22:26
Speaker 1: costumes and the glitz and the glam, But like Toddler's.
• 22:29
Speaker 5: In Tierra's, Yeah, their mothers are more investment.
• 22:32
  Speaker 3: That's so childing.
• 22:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, I am so on board with that. I think
• 22:35
Speaker 2: that also. I wanted my daughter when she was going
• 22:38
Speaker 2: through it to know that I didn't give two ships.
• 22:40
Speaker 2: Like I want her to understand that she thought that
• 22:43
Speaker 2: this was everything, and I thought it was having been
• 22:47
Speaker 2: in a sorority especially, it was not important. It was
• 22:52
Speaker 2: it would have been. I knew that it was going
• 22:54
Speaker 2: to be nice for her, a great way to meet people,
• 22:56
Speaker 2: but certainly like not the end all be all. I
• 22:59
Speaker 2: would think that would make the girls feel more pressure. Yeah,
• 23:03
  Speaker 2: for sure.
• 23:04
Speaker 4: And I think too, like coming into freshman year, like
• 23:07
Speaker 4: it is so scary and everything is so new, and
• 23:09
Speaker 4: to have that extra like aspect and pressure like I.
• 23:13
Speaker 5: Have to get in it.
• 23:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, it just kind of gets rid
• 23:16
Speaker 4: of the fun of it. I think adding all that
• 23:18
  Speaker 4: extra stuff.
• 23:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think so too.
• 23:19
Speaker 1: And I think you know what she was saying with
• 23:23
Speaker 1: the moms, not really the moms because you don't see
• 23:26
Speaker 1: the moms as much on TikTok, but the sorority girls
• 23:31
Speaker 1: that are very well known right now, some of them
• 23:33
  Speaker 1: go to Alabama.
• 23:35
  Speaker 5: I think.
• 23:38
Speaker 1: I think it's like a whole thing you know, the
• 23:41
Speaker 1: moms are adding into it, the daughters are adding into
• 23:44
Speaker 1: but it's it's everyone kind of making the world feel
• 23:48
Speaker 1: like this is okay, and it's it's it's not I mean.
• 23:53
Speaker 1: And I think there are of course, certain sororities at
• 23:56
Speaker 1: Alabama that are too a different standard, which obviously you
• 24:01
Speaker 1: do not need to go into that sorority. But you know,
• 24:05
Speaker 1: my friend went to Alabama and she rushed, and she
• 24:09
Speaker 1: definitely didn't do all this.
• 24:12
Speaker 2: So ladies were starting a revolution. Yes, there will be
• 24:17
Speaker 2: no more running of the pigs.
• 24:18
Speaker 5: No, that's brazy. Yeah. If I had boys throwing balloons
• 24:23
  Speaker 5: at me.
• 24:23
Speaker 1: I'm sure I would cry, Yeah, oh what.
• 24:28
  Speaker 3: Is going on?
• 24:30
Speaker 4: Either that or I'd be like exciting, get ready to out?
• 24:34
Speaker 2: Could go one or two ways.
• 24:35
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 24:36
Speaker 1: We love hearing your stories, and if you have more
• 24:38
Speaker 1: dirty Rush stories to tell us, make sure to give
• 24:41
Speaker 1: us a call call at eight four four two seven
• 24:44
  Speaker 1: eight rush.
• 24:45
Speaker 2: All right, well, guys, thank you for listening. Once again, we.
• 24:48
Speaker 5: Already already rush. Thank you, thank.
• 24:51
Speaker 2: You, thank you. To be continued
