- Hemispheric Views 158.mp3 It's a long weekend in Western Australia. I've just, I've gotten a two and a half hour bike ride this morning, so I'm feeling good. Why is it long? Because we don't go back to work on Monday. We get a Monday off. I figured it was a long weekend because it was more than two days long. But can you elaborate on the reasoning for the extra day? Hang on, I've forgotten. It's Labor Day. Labor Day. Labor Day. Oh, there it is. Okay. Yeah. Part of the Australia, I was actually talking to my son this morning. I was saying, we're talking about holidays. And I said, look, each, because you're saying, where did the holidays come from? I was like, usually there is a significant event that happened in history. But the true Australian way is to not really care why you have the holiday. You just enjoy the long weekend and just take it out of work. Like my holiday, this holiday is Labor Day. So how do we celebrate Labor Day? We don't work. Yeah. It's very ironic. Yeah. Don't you think? I'm happy for your long weekend that Martin didn't get. Anyway, thank you for having me back. Oh, yeah. I'm sorry that I was missing the last time. You were gone. How'd we do? How'd you do? I loved it. How was the mission? Did you complete the mission? My mission. The secret, the super secret, top secret mission that you were on while you were away from the pod? Yes, I was embroiled in corporate duties. Yes, for my employer. It was a weekend, which is a bit strange, but you got to do what you got to do. And although I was very sad to miss it and I've forgotten who it was, but I'm mastered on my posted saying, you know, loved the episode editing. I was just laughing. I know, like you had to edit while you were away. yep and i think andrew was like yeah come on there's duties we're gonna hold him to it yeah but of course i was gonna do it it was my turn and i loved listening to both of you mock the shit out of me while i was away it was great so western australia has three-day weekends and you work on the weekend that seems that seems good yeah it's not usual but it's a new policy they're bringing in western australia is just in perpetual holiday well somebody has somebody has and make up for all the days that they're not working over on the other side. So we appreciate you picking up the slack. It's true, because I'm sure if you spoke to any West Australian, they would say, oh, you know, we're keeping the country afloat, blah, blah, blah, something resources. It's true. But quite clearly, it's all on Martin Feld over here. Or as you'll be very happy to see, because I've taken feedback. I'm a person who learns from the feedback and the input of others. You've both been very upset about the lack of a foot in the emoji. Andrew's pulling faces. But look, as evidence, do you see magnets in the notes? It's back. The foot is back. The foot's back. It looks so much better. The felled foot is back. I listen to my friends. I take on feedback. I'm a flexible human being. Trae Andrew's going to grimace again. He doesn't believe me. So the foot is back. Welcome back, foot. Thank you. And I have to say It's just more Martin. I look at it. It's you. I never gelled with the magnet. Yeah, it feels like I'm home, right? Yeah. Actually, I don't mind being a foot. It occurred to me what I don't like about being the foot in the notes. It's the look of the foot. If it were like a Monty Python profile, like the side thing squashing something, I'd be fine with that. It's just the kind of, I don't know, like it's going to hit your face or smoosh against your cheek. It's got the little digits there. It's just. It's too reminiscent of a hand emoji, really. It needs to be more of the side profile. That's what I mean. Like, if I were actually crushing you, which was the whole point of Jason's original artwork of the Feldfoot crushing everyone. Yes. I think I'd be more comfortable with that. But the way that it's kind of reaching out to you like a hand, you're right, it's a bit uncomfortable. Are you heel on the left or heel on the right if you're going to be creating this emoji? Ooh. Probably heel on the right coming down diagonally to the left. Is that what you did in your original artwork? I mean, I'm not fussing, but you're asking me, so. From memory, that is the artwork. That sounds right. Yeah. That sounds right. It's like burnt into my brain somewhat. Yeah. And if it's not right, we'll look at it in a mirror and then it will be correct. So. Perfect. Now, now I'm going to have to go to, so you got me thinking about it. Emojipedia. Emojipedia. Emojipedia. How do you search for a particular, why are these websites so complicated? You're trying to find out if somebody else's foot emoji is more appropriate. Yeah. Foot. Yeah. looking there's a leg there's a man's shoe i guess it's okay let's just look at the foot the classic yellow foot what are the other options i don't understand this website emoji design classic yellow foot isn't there somewhere where you can just oh here we go you want the google noto emoji perhaps the google noto emoji or the samsung or the microsoft 3d fluent everybody except apple basically has gone side on i think that just shows how much that they are secretly against martin yeah world's against me what's that osu use now mate jason sorry are you on the samsung world your android phone oh yes yes oh yeah what are my what do my feet look like what is it let me let me look at my yeah we can look at the actual device type type type of message to us foot oh yeah it's like a sideways foot see i prefer the apple emoji in most cases but i think the sideways foot would be more on brand for me it's got too much ankle though like there's a lot of ankle there we're tube sock it's like it's an equal amount of foot and ankle so it's just like a it's too much you need like a lower if it were a sock like you You wouldn't want the full, like, tube sock or whatever. You want, like, a crew sock. Yeah. Yeah. I'll submit feedback. Yeah, we have to settle for the foot that is just, like, foot palming us. But there are some that go sideways a bit above the ankle. I might throw some magnets in occasionally just to keep you on your toes. But, look, I'll own the foot. I'll do it. You should throw a foot in to keep us on our toes, not the magnet. Oh, well, whatever. It's so confusing. But I have to say, before we move on, there was one thing where I lost it, just cracked up listening while I was editing both of you and your audio. When you said lost it, I was worried. No, lost it positively. It was when Andrew correctly, I don't know, diagnosed, characterized me in terms of broadcast television. You could not have been more accurate, Andrew, in saying that I was like the ABC SBS viewer and everything about tuning into broadcast frequencies, whatever it was. It was totally accurate. because you can bet that I'm on SBS On Demand looking at the Food Network and what's on Viceland and what sort of foreign movie I can catch up on if I ever have the time. It's great. So you're lucky because you're in the streaming era now. You don't have to tune into the UHF channel. How much easier is that? It's great. You know, you've got 24 hours of Adam Liao or Mr. Nguyen, you know, through the Mekong. It's great. No one knows what I'm talking about, I'm sure. Did you want to do the pronunciation of our hat winner? Oh, yeah. While we're here, since I'm sure neither of us did it anywhere near justice. By the way, hat winner, congratulations again. It's in the mail. So it should be there soon. So I've just brought it here properly so I can read it. So I wasn't misremembering and therefore totally mispronouncing it. I can see his name is, are we allowed to say it actually? Is that part of the first name? Just first name. Yeah, we said the first name. We said first name, last initial. Okay. Well, if it's last initial in German, then it would be Marius K. Oh. Or K. Wow. Because it's J-K-L for J-K-L. He had a little tongue roll. Yeah. So now when they send in an audio clip of them pronouncing it correctly, we'll see who, in fact, is the closest. Martin, who is seven-eighths German. Me, who probably did it really bad. And then, of course, Andrew was probably in the middle. I've got one more idea of how to say it. Okay. Now I'm going to take him out of the middle and put him squarely at the bottom. Yeah. You ready? Yeah. It's-a me, Marius. No, I don't think that's going to be... That's exactly what he would say. I don't think that's going to be close. But you know what's going to happen If he were to say Marius K You'll discover that I said K Not like a German but like saying Get into the K I'm going to sound like some sort of ridiculous Aussie Congratulations Marius I was thrilled to see that someone won And the fact that it's a German And apparently that's on brand for me As the Germanic foot of this podcast Great to have you We would have thought that there was some kind of shenanigans going on here But he was not in the room during the draw So there was no way he had any influence on the draw whatsoever. Absolutely not. While we're thanking people, can I just move something up in the agenda? Move it up, move it down, move it to the side. I just want to, I don't know if you're going to talk about this later, but One Prime Plus. Oh. Beloved subscription service. I just want to give a big shout out. Yeah. Look, I was trawling through my email this morning, as you do, you know, every day is email day. Every day. And I got the best kind of email. a one prime plus subscription notification i want to say thank you matthew g you g'd up my day i appreciate it they might not even cancel after that that was actually pretty pretty solid oh yeah i've decided a new tact okay new tact blue tack yeah don't offend people did you say blue tack blue i didn't say blue tack a new tack oh new tack got it blue tack Tic Tac is my tactic. And of course, One Prime Plus prices have gone down, haven't they? Oh, have they ever? Have they ever? Yeah, I said that. Which means people are upping their subscriptions now, which is perfect. I don't know. Everybody else was raising prices. So I thought we should do something with the price change. And so I made it half as much just because. Because we appreciate everyone's support, don't we? It's really about fueling this show. And we are going to be making a more concerted effort to put stuff out, aren't we? Because it actually proves to be quite hard to fuel like a member channel all the time. And so it seems. Yeah, that is a true fact right there. Yeah. So if you had ever thought, you know what, I'm just a southern or northern supporter, boy, would I love to be a global. Well, now you can do it for basically the same price. So get on in there. And there'll be more episodes. I think the return of the newsletters as well. We just have to sort out the infrastructure. And am I right in saying that the members group that used to be on Discord is now somewhere else? That is also true. Yes. The Discord server, as of 12 UTC, March 1st, 2026, the Discord server was ceremoniously decommissioned. Wow. And it is gone. It is dead. I do have a offline backup of it just in case we need anything there, but it is gone. So now long live the forum. The forum is there. Chat dot hemisphericfuse.com. It's great. I love the forum. I think it's fun. It's a little less, you know, hyper. That's not real time, obviously, because it's a forum. That's what they are. Welcome to 1997. It's great. I love it. I think it's a great place. It does, I think it more or less solves the problem that Discord was solving, probably in a better way in some ways. It's not live, like I said, but I think it's still pretty good. And Equator is back. So we made sure we rescued Equator from the Discord server before we shut it down. And now they are over there in our forum. So get into the forum and chat with everyone. I love Equator. I love what you've done, Jason. And thank you so much for the effort that you put into setting it up. Because I like this approach. I like the slower aspect because being a southerner in the hemispheric context. Parlance, yeah. Andrew, you're in Perth. Maybe it's different. I would wake up and feel that I totally miss conversations, which is not a great thing for a co-host to actually not be in the conversation more than half the time. It is challenging. I think this is uniquely positioned better for this show being that we are literally, us alone are in completely different places, obviously. So we don't have a lot of overlap. just in general there's people all over the entire world so live chat just doesn't really work most of the time and you're right you wake up and there's 50 million things but are you gonna go reply to a thing from that long ago and like try to make that work back into the live conversation it's just not great so now it's you come you look what's new read through it reply it's great and now for those who are one prime plusians if they want that there's a more focused signal chat right so there it is the best of both worlds yeah there is a there is a secret discussion in the forum and as well there's also a signal chat for one prime plus dot com 2026 is like a year of change right so we've got a beanie that went out to a really nice german guy we've got one prime plus returning in a big way with reduced subscription fees and now discord is dead long live the form. That's it. Pretty good. It's all changed. I'm telling you, this is going to be the year this podcast really hits the big time. This is going to be our career in just a matter of months. Boy, I hope not. Quit your jobs. This is us now. No more shall we be the long tail of podcasting. I think there's a pretty good about a tail left there. Yeah, there's a bit. I see the tail. I see the horizon. The tail... dips over the edge and then i go oh what's tapping me on the back oh it's the tail coming back all the way around and tapping me on the shoulder is it the equator okay yes okay so i'm seeing a robot now do i use dictation do you dictate do i use dictation now yeah you're the robot yeah that's me it's handy hmm do i guess do either of you use dictation on i know it's built into the Mac and on phones and so forth, but I never really used it on the computer. I've used it on the, on phones here or there, not a ton. I'm finding I'm wanting to use it more with how incredibly awful, um, seemingly all autocorrect is on every device I use or I've gotten worse. Not sure, but anyway, um, on the computer, I never really used it until somebody Somebody mentioned, I think this was actually in the forum is where I found this. Somebody mentioned a little thing called Handy, which is a little dictation app on the Mac. You could set up a little shortcut where you just can tap it on and off, or you could do like press to hold or press to talk. And I've been using it a ton and it works freaking awesome. And I don't know why I haven't been doing that more. Do either of you use dictation specifically on the Mac? Because to me, it feels weird on the Mac, but, you know, I don't know. What do you guys think? So just to be clear, when you say dictation, you mean dictating text that you would otherwise be typing out in some sort of field or document. Okay. Speech to text. Not just a Siri prompt or something. No, no. All right. Well, my answer's easy. No, I don't. Yeah. Didn't think so. Andrew, your turn. Yeah. My answer's no as well for two reasons. Really? First of all, I feel self-conscious when I talk to the computer. And secondly, the way my brain works, I work really effectively brain to hands to keyboard. And I'm a fast typist. I can type and it flows very easily and my brain can go at the correct pace to work with my hands. If I start talking, I just go all over the shop. I lose track of it. I get things wrong. I start obsessing over watching it appear on a screen and then realizing that I've got something wrong. So no, I'm a, just a hard no. But then you can reread the stuff that it already wrote. So then you have it twice. No? No. So no, I'm not, I don't use it. Although I've just gone to handy.computer, which I assume is where you're talking about. I have no idea. Probably. It looks very cute. So if anything's going to make me use, it looks like a little Mickey Mouse hand. Yeah. Yeah. So look, maybe this will change everything because damn, if it doesn't look cute. I don't know I don't use it a ton but it's nice that I could just hold down control say some stuff and it pops up on the screen it's quite nice I I do agree though I think it's I find it good for one or two sentences not like I'm gonna go write a paragraph or two of stuff because I will probably get lost as well yeah I totally agree with what you said Andrew it's the efficiency of just pouring your thoughts out through your fingers through a keyboard but I'm glad you said that Jason about the short sentences because it does feel like something that is very handy if you have a quick thought to put down like the only thing that i even use siri for on the mac yeah exactly handy um it is the sort of thing where i will say remind me of this and that's all that i tell the mac to do with my voice all the talking i do with the mac is talking to you guys and podcasty stuff it's not a text thing you know it works for you that's great after i used it i did in fact say out loud that is pretty handy doesn't the mac have dictation why use handy because isn't there some feature you can push something to make it do it probably involves siri and i can't be bothered but how do you actually dictate into it i think it's something you can customize or map but normally i think it's the function key or if you have like the siri microphone button it depends right because it's one of those things i've never oh there's a little yeah there's a microphone button on my keyboard i don't know what that does i recall trying it with like a double tap of the function key or something and then it would go there and i went okay that's handy but not the handy you know what i mean no that is not handy that is in fact not handy exactly that's siri and fun fact handy is the name of our theme song our theme song very good is it really yeah handy yes you might have forgotten because you purchased and we did it like five years ago but andrew and i are putting it into every episode with every edit you're seeing the file name handy so often that is yeah that's okay that makes sense yeah because that was damn near six six years ago bought that little mp3 i've been reminded of it uh every time it's my edit yep well that is also quite handy now can you give us the updatist on update or an update on your update i can give you an update on updatist right we talked about updatist because matt uh oh it's been a little bit i already forgot what it's called mac updater up mac yeah that's the one yeah yeah it went away it went away i don't i still don't really fully understand why but anyway it went away 2026 january i think it was the beginning of the year january 1st and um i think most people don't care about this they could care less if their apps are up to date i said at the time i am a habitual updater i'm always looking for updates i want everything to be updated all the time um so i'd use that all the time to do my updates and then it went away it was like oh what do i do now and so i found this thing called called updatist and it was in beta it got updated a thousand times a day because they were working on it working on it working on it and eventually now i bought it because it is great it does your regular like mac app store it'll tell you about it'll tell you about homebrew apps it'll tell you about electron apps it'll tell you about you know kind of everything on your computer it will tell you in a nice pretty way yeah you could do like some terminal thing to yeah i like you know i use a graphical user interface for a reason i want it to look nice so you know sue me next i have a quiz question for you this is not unannounced trivia corner don't get excited what's this don't get excited bring the excitement back down chill out okay all right how many let's say floppy disks would you say it would take to store the entirety of our catalog of this here little pod program are we talking like original floppy like the floppies that were actually floppy 1.44 megabyte? Yeah, we're talking about three and a half inch for IBM formatted. Oh, is that single sided then? Is that 720 kilobytes? Or is it like an Amiga disc? If it's an Amiga disc at 1.44, because that's how my brain works. I'm an Amiga guy, right? It's a 144. It has, that's the only logical. It better be. Okay. Yeah. Are we talking 800 floppies here? Good, good guess. Wow, really? Nah, it wouldn't be that many. See, each episode would be about 40. calculate you just say a number this is the difference whatever he's like i'm trying to do he's got his mental spreadsheet open i hope it's connected to omni focus there's a four he's writing a formula right now he's the math lady 3 800 floppies how many 3 800 3 800 that's that's a good guess uh it's actually 3 549 that's close you were close wow that's actually what what you get when you try mathematics i couldn't yeah yeah when you do the math turns out it uh gives you an appropriate answer i like how you said to both of us that's a good guess like mine was a guess andrew's wasn't really okay martin good guess andrew good calculation thank you there we go so what you're saying is that i guessed better than andrew did you did actually that's true yeah What did you guess? I guessed. You didn't. You tried to work it out. What did you say? I didn't hear. I was too busy doing math. I said 800. It doesn't matter if I'm right or not. I was a better guesser. Yeah. Oh, this is like the Price is Right where you just choose a dollar because you know it's going to be like closer than the other guy. But you didn't go over, so you're good. Yeah, we should have. Oh, we. I can't be bothered. But everyone was just saying, just imagine like someone yodeling up a mountain as you approach. Oh, you should have loved that guy. Oh, yeah, that guy. Yeah, it's like. Do you know what I mean? You don't need to topple off the Swiss Alps. Oh, I love that guy. Falls to his death, but they just like cut away so you don't have to see the carnage. It didn't have a sound effect. It went... Yeah. It was something like that. You didn't hear the guts flying everywhere, but it was left to the imagination. Anyway, so why are we guessing slash calculating floppies? What's going on here? Great question. Because if you remember last episode, We had a request go out, I believe it was from Andrew, for the podcast duration tracker, podcast duration tool website, one of those, to be updated. Because it used to just say, you know, here's your show, here's how long it is, et cetera. And we were, I don't know, Andrew and I were the only ones here, so we were probably talking about old crap. And somehow we got on the idea of how many CD-Rs would it take to fit the entire thing? How many floppy disks? So now Rob's pod duration tracker has all that. It tells you how many C60 cassettes, how many C90 cassettes, how many CDs, and how many floppy disks for any podcast you put into the little thing. That is incredible, isn't it? It's so amazing. And I have to say, on the homepage, for people who aren't looking at a device, He's got the field there saying enter a podcast RSS feed below to calculate the total duration. And below that, or try it with one of these wonderful podcasts. I am so honoured that our podcast has been included. And not to mention really specific stories, my research. So thank you, Rob, for being such a nice guy and highlighting other people's shows. Yes, very nice. Yeah, that really specific story is only 684 floppy disks, Martin. Oh. I'm nothing if not efficient. Probably have that many just floating around. It's a pimple on the side of hemispheric views. That's true. And I'll tell you what, it actually kills me because I will say to listeners here that that's something that I definitely want to continue doing. For people who don't know what I'm talking about or who might have tuned in later, it's the research show that I did with interviews lined up with my PhD thesis, which hopefully will be finished this year. That'll be a seven-year experience if I manage to conclude it. But I would love to do more interviews. It just turns out that they're really difficult to find the time to put together. So thanks, Rob, for highlighting it. Thanks to everyone who listened to it. And I hope sometime before I'm 80 years old, I can do more episodes. Sorry, I missed everything you said. I was distracted by the pigeons on your shelf. The pigeons? Oh, you want to see the pigeons? Are they pigeons? Yeah, they're pigeons. You haven't seen them before. Maybe it's a different perspective. One sec. They love birds. I think they're pigeons. Are they real? Hmm. I need to put my earphones back in. Do you think Martin has a single floppy in his house? Nah, he was born. That's a bit of a personal question, isn't it? never floppy anyway um i reckon he's got dvds oh oh so these two pigeons which uh we can i can take a picture for the uh the show notes or the the artwork uh actually not the artwork because it's about are we still on pod duration have we moved to pigeons now i don't fully understand where we're at in the notes right now but go ahead let me just make a little marker here in case i have to make a pigeon chapter so right now in my hands i'm holding two pigeons uh they're Give me another show that's ever had to make a pigeon chapter. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. There's a male pigeon with a little bow tie and a female pigeon with like a wedding veil. And these were the two pigeons that we had as cake toppers. Natasha and I had them on our wedding day. Got it. Because Natasha and I think pigeons are hilarious and kind of adorable. I think a lot of people think they're filthy and dumb. They're actually quite intelligent. And they've got beautiful feathers. Lovely. Iridescent feathers around their necks. So Natasha inspired me with appreciation for pigeons, and that's why we have them here on the shelf behind me. Got the pigeons. You got the flamingo. You got the toilet birds. There's a whole lot going on over there. There really is. Absolutely. There's a DeLorean. There's a Ferrari that I wrote about on that thing called Lounge Ruminator that I used to populate with content. There's a few silly McMartin. Have you seen that before? I can show you that. I think no. One sec. Is he reaching? Really derailed the show now. I'm reaching back on the shelf. Oh, it's... We don't know what's going on now. For the Seinfeld fans out there, you might recall that Kramer created a Fusilli Jerry, a Jerry Seinfeld made of Fusilli pasta that he glued together, and he was reserving ravioli for George. This is a Martin statue with a watch and a phone made of Fusilli, and I'm standing there holding an iPhone with a base plate that says Martin. It looks just like you. It's great. I like it. It does, yes. I am oddly spiral-shaped. While we're showing Trinket I've got I've got OB Or a Boris Oh is that Oh like a pop vinyl figure Yeah From Loki Yep I've got the Oh jeez Something fell He fell off I've got the waiting guy Oh boy You know what's his name Drug dealer From On his From Stool Narcos What's his name Yeah yeah That's the one Drug dealer guy You know what's his name I've forgotten his name I'll look it up while Yeah you love him so much You've forgotten his name Pablo Escobar That's it. Yeah, that's the one. And he's on his little swing chair. And the best of all, we all know this guy. Yay. Describe for the listeners. Who are you holding? He sits on my desk all the time. It's me. It's the little people. It's the little people, Andrew. It's literally you. And Martin gave this to me. This is the time that I met Martin in person. I was given a little people me. In person. And I love him dearly. And Jason, you got yours by post, yeah? Yes. It's back there. I don't blame you because you have a lot of stuff behind you. You can't see it. I can't reach it. Speaking of post, did you ever get that? Did you ever get that mail you would have now heard about? Me? Are you talking to me or Jason? Do you remember we made you? Yeah, we made you take your AirPods. Yeah, your phones out. Oh, yes, he did. I was talking about. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Are we talking about the wonderful Christmas card? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. It came well after Christmas, but you know what? I actually like that because it's like the Yuletide joy just kept going on. It was like two months later. I was grateful anyway. It was lovely. I just assumed they got lost because I figure it's a 50-50 anytime I send anything out of the country. Yeah. All right, so we've covered pigeons, pasta, little people, slow postal services. Yeah. Pigeons, pasta, and post. That's what this chapter's about. We're really going places, aren't we? Pigeons, pasta, and post. and then passwords passwords oh this is me it's basketball i think it's a basketball i think somebody's about to complain about something oh mate am i about no actually i'm not gonna complain mate because this is this is the new me i'm not gonna be just negative all the time really i'm gonna reflect reflect back on my one password journey with appreciation and thanks we had some highs we had some lows i remember back in one password maybe like five or six and thinking what is it now eight ten eight which doesn't sound like a lot right but their versions move slow i've been in one password user for more than a decade probably like 12 14 years something i was using a password that'd be would that be in the app store you think no i think i it could be in the app store but um anyway a long time long time i was using a password manager before people really knew what why passwords were even necessary that's so it's a long time i've been on the family's plan so managing multiple people but this time this latest price increase which they announced as a price update it's not software price is not a software not a software piece software it's not a price update it's just an increase and it went up by like 33 and that's in the us dollars which means in australia it gets even more expensive and it's like why am i still doing this why am i paying all this money for a program which is now an electron app which doesn't reliably work all the time at the moment on the mac and there's alternatives that are either built or lower cost elsewhere. So I sent them an email. I sent the one password people an email saying, thank you, I appreciate all your service, but now it is time for us to go in different directions. They emailed me back with an offer for a one-time use, 25% off to maintain my current pricing for one more year. Will never be repeated. Then you'll wear the price increase next year. I'm like, why would I do that? It's just kicking the can down the road. So I'm out. cancelled 1Password. I've still got access to it for another two months until my subscription runs out, but I've already made the move of trialling. First of all, Apple Passwords. That's where I've gone to immediately. Bleh. Horrible idea. Worst mistake. You're going to regret it, but go on. Okay, so it I use it, Mr. Default. It's okay. Now, I don't know. I think I'm going to have definite friction when I try and use my work computer, which is where 1Password was good because it was a browser integration and you could just use it there. There is a browser integration for the Apple passwords thing on into various browsers. I've noticed already on the Mac trying to use it in Chrome or Vivaldi is dog shit because you have to keep entering an authentication code every time you want to unlock it. It's weird. You'd think they'd really care about making everything work in things that are outside their ecosystem. Yeah, it doesn't. It's weird. And then even on Safari, I find it slightly annoying because it doesn't stay unlocked. Because you have to use Safari. Oh, yeah. That's another thing. That's another topic I'm having a trouble with at the moment. But it doesn't autofill. You have to actively, like, touch, you know, do the touch ID thing to make it autofill. And then, which is annoying because I just wanted to do it. Like, one password I would say, stay unlocked for 24 hours. And it would just autofill quite quickly and easily. This is a bit more, you have to be more interventionist about it. And I think you might have to put, no, you don't have to push return, do you? It will just, it will auto submit the login details. So that's okay. That's good. So anyway, if Apple passwords works okay, I'm tempted to keep it just because it's cheap. And, you know, for work, I thought, ah, stuff it. I'm just going to save them in the browser. Who cares? I think that's my problem. I've been too security conscious. I'm just going to be like, I'm just going to be like everybody else at work. You'll be receiving an email from IT promptly on Monday morning after they hear this? Don't try and tell me everybody else at work doesn't just say, yeah, Microsoft Edge, which we are required to use. Yes, please, just save my password. Everybody's doing that. And I'm like, why am I worrying about one password? Bloody garbage. Just save it. I don't care. It's not mine. Well, on the topic of enshitification, I don't know if you two have seen this video. This is a little sidestep in this topic. I hope you don't mind, Andrew. but have either of you seen the uh norwegian consumer council's video make it shitty yes i have seen it i have not seen i saw that furstenberg provided a link to it yes what did you think of it jason i thought it was funny i thought it was funny i the only thing i don't like about it is kind of just what i don't like about this the whole the term which i'm not even gonna say because i think it's dumb but it's just it's just become a i don't like this thing therefore it is now in shitified like it's just become a blanket term for people regardless of the reason they don't like it that's what they go to now and it's just frustrating to me maybe they misuse it i like the idea or at least the original intention of the definition which if anyone hasn't heard of in shitification i think a lot of listeners here would have is the idea that there was a good intention or app or service or product to begin with and it's gone astray or been designed poorly to maximize profits or subscriptions or yeah maybe they don't pay attention to their own human interface guidelines anymore for example um but anyway i like the spirit of this video and the fact that you know a lot of what we use you could argue is in shitified but i take your point jason maybe couldn't you just call it like capitalistic principles it's the same thing i mean everything starts out with good intention and then it's like oh shit we have to 10x next year what are we gonna do but yes the ad was funny because it was like a guy who basically is the person that's just there to make things worse yeah the norwegian guy in this video for anyone hasn't said it yet i don't want to spoil it but he's the inshita for kata and he goes around and that's his uh it's like passed down through the generations making things shitty yeah it's like he's like a little gnome in your house going around like doing things to make things worth it's like yeah yeah i don't want to i don't want to give away the things either but it is a it's a very funny and well done video and it kind of expands from physical and then extends into the digital world i think they did a good job of that oh and speaking of shitty uh andrew you're keeping your 15 pro for another year yes oh god good good segue i just wanted to make a really nasty segue even if it was false good segue speaking of a piece of shit you're keeping your phone for another year i am i am i was doing i was doing some financial analysis as you guys know i want to do wait what yeah you i'm crazy crazy huh crazy right i was looking at how much do these things cost me and these phones are expensive they are especially for you guys oh my goodness what like three thousand dollars or something over there well they're not there yet but they're getting that way two thousand two thousand yeah a bit more that's a lot of money right and i know what's gonna happen now that ram prices are going out you know up the wazoo they're gonna get even more expensive but overall point being is i like my phone it's just fine it does everything i need it to do the only time it ever gets hot is when i'm doing software updates like what you know the app updates i should say that that always happens though right don't they always do that so it's like surely so if the only time i feel like it's really being pressed is when it's soft doing app updates like that tells me that i've still got plenty of headroom i'm not exactly you know pushing this thing to its limits it's only what a year a year old two years 15 pro and because so often it used to be people would say like it'd be like a two-year cycle and I just think this is just fine. Yeah, like with contract providers, that was the behavior they taught people to adopt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I actually have the money set aside because I save up, you know, actual budget style, formerly YNAB, now actual. I have a bucket for iPhone replacement, but I'm like, I'm just going to leave that bucket sitting there. Just let it sit. Take a vacation. What the hell do you need a new phone for? and also like sorry apple you don't deserve a money you're being bastards why would i pay you more money and look at this thing i don't know if you guys can see this right this is a two-year-old phone now martin you'll appreciate it both of you will understand that's pristine right yeah we're looking at a case with zero damage as far as i can say yeah it's no case it's caseless oh sorry i mean like the iphone case itself the actual like the actual iphone yeah it is that's that's the only way a phone should look and that's because we you the three of us we understand there are business rules about using a phone right yes certain ways that you must handle it put it in a pocket treat it place it we understand this kiss a good night yes yes tuck it in yep heater blanket in the winter yeah let me tell you i totally support you andrew because i'm still using my iphone for ants oh the 13 minute can't even see it can you hold it closer to the camera so we can see it it's still tiny and i will take it to the grave with me i'll be that person who like never got a new phone because they only make them the size of dinner plates now they do so um that's it anybody who's like listen listen to your podcasts let them talk about the new iphones the plateaus and whatever the else crap they put on them but ask yourself really could that money be better off in my pocket than buying a new iPhone. Do I really need the new iPhone? No, you don't. You don't. I agree. There you go. I'm keeping it. And before we wrap up, because we've actually gone through all the topics, there was one thing from the last episode that I did not address. What's that? CDs in the car. Oh, yeah. Do you have a quick question about that before we wrap up? Did we nail it? Do we basically explain exactly how you deal with CDs in the car or were we way off do you have a stacker well look i mean i've got a car that still has a cd player in it and sync single disc front load just a single yeah again like just one disc in and out does the little thing flat down to put it in or does it go right in the front it just goes right in the front okay that's it basically my phone plays nicely with my car half the time although my car given when it was created when it was manufactured thinks it's an ipod it says ipod which makes me happy i mentioned this on the show before but it's not correct it's like hey it's your ipod like no it's not they had to program some letters in ipod was all they had available that and look my favorite thing is i chuck on sigur ross great icelandic band it doesn't know what the icelandic characters are so the titles are missing characters it's like just made up half words it's not even language does it show like little boxes where it doesn't know what they are or no it just ignores them they don't exist it went from being an actual language to just being just gibberish just words you know with letters missing um but sometimes it goes no supported data found and i'm like it's plugged in you worked yesterday get stuffed and i went you know what there's a cd player and i have cds and when you put them in it doesn't argue with you it doesn't say no supported data found or show characters missing it just shows the tracks and what do you know it actually works so i just have a healthy supply of some of my favorite cds in the car when my phone slash pretend iPod doesn't cooperate with the car. Is it in one of those zipper folder cases things? Your CDs? Yes. No, they're just loose. You just have a stack of CDs just sitting there rubbing against each other. Melt in the sun. They're inserted into the glove box and the centre console. Oh! And you know what? Sometimes I get right down to like 30 kilometres left in the tank. I've got CDs chinking around it's great oh jason you look so stressed i love it he gets some change he just throws it in there with the cds sometimes i frisbee them out the window just to see if they come back oh god it's so much worse than we imagined man that's scratched must they be and the and the nothing gets scratched it's fine they're all secure they're not flying around and you'll be glad to know that we've got you know an eclectic range it's everything from the cat empire to matrix soundtracks to the best of the cause they're a guilty pleasure from the 90s it's great oh the core oh my god that is terrible no it's not they're great who doesn't love some celtic pop rock violins to breathless or irresistible come on you'd be tapping your foot if it came on oh jeez i'm just i'm just i was gonna say i'd be wouldn't you be worried that somebody might steal your cds you know they're just visible but then i realized it's 2026 and you've got the cause so no he's gonna be bothered they're in the glove box on the center console they're not visible they're secured what's jason doing i'm oh yeah i've broken both of my co-hosts thank you for joining me this week uh hemispheric views next week will just be me because both of them are dead yeah we're out and that would mean hold on let me just check here that means you have to keep Uh, 100, no, no, sorry, 99 CDRs in your center console to make sure you have every episode of this show available to listen to in the car. Perfect. Thank you for calculating that. I would have just guessed. yes Hello, listeners. Listeners, I've just finished editing the show, and I couldn't resist telling you that I do in fact keep CDs in cases in the car, but it was just too enjoyable hearing Andrew and Jason and Payne during the recording. Have a nice day. See ya.
