- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's efficiently.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Season two, Episode fifty seven of NHL Unscripted is coming
- 0:25Speaker 1: at You, Coming Up Ahead, Panthers, Dad's Cowboy, Up You Go, Short,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Kings and Cinephile in sixty on Gimo del Toros. Frankenstein
- 0:33Speaker 1: on this special Thanksgiving the edition plus a little Canada Dry,
- 0:37Speaker 1: not the ginger Ale.
- 0:38Speaker 2: The Canadian teams not faring so well. We're recording this
- 0:41Speaker 2: before the big.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Slate of fifteen games Wednesday night, so if anything happens
- 0:44Speaker 1: of consequence, well sorry, we'll catch up for it next time.
- 0:47Speaker 1: But I can tell you this, when it comes to Unscripted,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we're locked in, except for Tale.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Give you the Cold Shoulder.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I was in Los Angeles there Crypto dot com Arena
- 0:56Speaker 1: ready for the Senators and Kings. One of the worst
- 0:58Speaker 1: hockey games I've seen in recent memory. No goal scored
- 1:01Speaker 1: in the first two parades, and somebodys just say, well,
- 1:03Speaker 1: it's like a picture's duel. Yeah, but it wasn't. It
- 1:05Speaker 1: was just not a lot of chances, two defensive teams
- 1:07Speaker 1: mucking up the ice. Eventually, the Kings won this game
- 1:10Speaker 1: to one, but more portly tal busy moving, couldn't come
- 1:13Speaker 1: down to the jab Marriott downtown LA.
- 1:16Speaker 2: How's the move going?
- 1:17Speaker 3: The move is going, still ongoing. Uh, there's a lot
- 1:22Speaker 3: that needs to be fixed. It's an old house. It's
- 1:24Speaker 3: very nice. We're excited and it was only about seven
- 1:27Speaker 3: blocks from the old place, so we didn't have to
- 1:29Speaker 3: go too far. But just a lot of stuff to do.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Plus my in laws are in town for the holidays.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So I felt really bad bailing on you, Adnam, but
- 1:38Speaker 3: it was not going to happen. And then someone else
- 1:40Speaker 3: asked me if I wanted to have lunch that day.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I said, I had to bail on ad Nan verk
- 1:43Speaker 3: so you're not getting a lunch either.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Didn't want to come down from Beverly Hills in his
- 1:48Speaker 4: Ivory tower to the slums of downtown Los Angeles.
- 1:54Speaker 1: By the way, JAD that arena. I'd been there to
- 1:57Speaker 1: watch Lakers games. They've never been there for a Kings
- 1:59Speaker 1: game before. Maybe it was just because it was a Monday,
- 2:01Speaker 1: maybe it was Thanksgiving week, Maybe it was coming off
- 2:03Speaker 1: a Rams game. Maybe it's because the centers were in town.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Doldrums throughout that crowd. That is a quiet crowd there
- 2:09Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. I'm amazed by the way they have
- 2:11Speaker 1: the best home record, because there's a reason why they
- 2:14Speaker 1: don't have a very good home record this year.
- 2:15Speaker 2: The fans did not show up for that one.
- 2:18Speaker 4: They have a good home record because all the guys
- 2:21Speaker 4: are at Katsui or catch the night before or out
- 2:24Speaker 4: on the town in Hollywood. No, it's that. I mean
- 2:27Speaker 4: that building used to it's I would chalk it up
- 2:30Speaker 4: to the Senators. The California teams a lot, like you know,
- 2:33Speaker 4: when I was in San Jose, we'd play Buffalo, those
- 2:35Speaker 4: teams like that, even if they're good. Yeah, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 4: the fans don't really come out. They like the rivalry matchups.
- 2:41Speaker 4: They like the Western Conference. So it's a little similar
- 2:43Speaker 4: when you're like out east and your Western team coming
- 2:47Speaker 4: out East. So yeah, it's not a lot to love
- 2:53Speaker 4: by the Ottawa Senators versus La King's matchup. I thought
- 2:56Speaker 4: it was a good defensive game. I know there wasn't
- 2:58Speaker 4: a lot of chances, but I thought it was a
- 2:59Speaker 4: good defensive game. But that's not what the California fans want.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I want. They want some blood, guts and glory. That's
- 3:06Speaker 4: what they want.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But it was nice to have Luke Roboti with us
- 3:09Speaker 1: on set. Who has a statue outside. He's got prime
- 3:11Speaker 1: real estate right next to Kobe Bryant. And if you
- 3:13Speaker 1: haven't seen Luke Robaton a while, little jarring of the
- 3:16Speaker 1: white hair almost looks he's dyeing his hair white. But
- 3:18Speaker 1: he looks fantastic. And I think he's like a fifty
- 3:21Speaker 1: eight fifty maybe sixty like Lulver Fox silver. It is
- 3:24Speaker 1: an absolute silver fox. Luke Robatiz still look like but yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: full head of hair, but but jarringly white. I was like,
- 3:32Speaker 1: oh my god, Luke Robaton.
- 3:33Speaker 2: How are you?
- 3:34Speaker 4: Does he got the slick back on like long hair?
- 3:36Speaker 2: No, yeah, I wish he had the long hair.
- 3:38Speaker 1: This is normally just regular part but very very polite,
- 3:40Speaker 1: very calm.
- 3:41Speaker 4: How was uh? How was the desk with were Pronger
- 3:44Speaker 4: and bolded?
- 3:45Speaker 2: How is it? Yeah?
- 3:45Speaker 1: So Prongs and Roboti had some good stories because prong
- 3:48Speaker 1: said there was a game that Luke had a bonus
- 3:51Speaker 1: if he got to I think it was fifty goals,
- 3:53Speaker 1: and progs had a bonus if you got to certain
- 3:55Speaker 1: plus minus and Pabldomeitra had a bonus as well. So
- 3:58Speaker 1: Luke was joking Proms like, hey man, I gotta get
- 3:59Speaker 1: the record, and Prom's like, not my watch. I like
- 4:02Speaker 1: what you I'm gonna give you? Was this Michael Straight,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I hate him, Brett Frog gonna give you the SAX record?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Who like damn so but the way Lucas fifty nine?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Talis saying it looks fantastic.
- 4:12Speaker 4: For eight, so it's great, good for him.
- 4:14Speaker 1: They were kind of going back and forth, Prongs and robotiming,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I could you imagine those battles up front in the net?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Speaking of in the net? Goodbye Hella Buck not great
- 4:23Speaker 1: news to the Winnipeg Jets. Downright average for most of November,
- 4:26Speaker 1: three and four record in November, and then they got
- 4:28Speaker 1: the news that they start going defending league MVP Connor.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Hellbuck's out for four to six weeks after knee surgery.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Howie's played at least sixty games each of the past
- 4:37Speaker 1: four seasons. So they lost their first two games with
- 4:40Speaker 1: Eric Comery between the pipes.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Basically, the question is this, jad.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Can Comrey keep the pipes afloat for a Jets team
- 4:46Speaker 1: which is not nearly as dominant as they were a
- 4:49Speaker 1: season ago in the Central.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I think he can listen, we're gonna find out. He
- 4:55Speaker 4: hasn't played over twenty games in his NHL career in
- 4:58Speaker 4: a season, so I think his biggest season was twenty games.
- 5:03Speaker 4: It's gonna be a test. You're gonn to see what
- 5:04Speaker 4: you have in Comery. And you know, I played with
- 5:07Speaker 4: him at World Championships. He's a great kid. But this
- 5:12Speaker 4: is a contract year for him too, so there's a
- 5:14Speaker 4: lot on the line here. This is like, this is
- 5:16Speaker 4: like kind of the equivalent of, you know, the starting
- 5:19Speaker 4: QB going down late in the season and this and
- 5:23Speaker 4: the backup QB comes in and he just lights the
- 5:26Speaker 4: world on fire for four or five weeks, gets himself
- 5:29Speaker 4: a deal, solidifies himself in the league for the next
- 5:33Speaker 4: ten years. This is Comray's moment. This is his backup
- 5:36Speaker 4: QB moment. He needs to take the bull by the horns.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I think he can. The last couple of games to
- 5:41Speaker 4: watch him lose some couple tough goals, but overall it
- 5:47Speaker 4: was he wasn't getting a lot of help defensively, Like
- 5:49Speaker 4: there's a lot of backdoor tappans, post to post one timers,
- 5:52Speaker 4: top shovel like, not a lot he could do. So
- 5:55Speaker 4: I think it's overall for the Winnipeg Jets, I think
- 5:58Speaker 4: defensively they're not playing like they have in recent memory.
- 6:02Speaker 4: They're also you know, they've dealt with injury. He's all
- 6:04Speaker 4: season long. Neil Pionk I think went down as well.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Now he's out. So it's tough. It's gonna be tough sledding.
- 6:10Speaker 4: They're gonna kind of they're going to just have to
- 6:12Speaker 4: hold pat and and and almost go five hundred, kind
- 6:16Speaker 4: of stay in the race, don't fall behind, don't go
- 6:19Speaker 4: on a big losing streak. But if you have the
- 6:21Speaker 4: opportunity to kind of still hang in there until Hellibuk
- 6:24Speaker 4: comes back, then you're you can go on one of
- 6:26Speaker 4: those long, you know, ten fifteen game winning streak runs
- 6:29Speaker 4: and get yourself back into the hunt. So but I'm
- 6:31Speaker 4: not too worried about them making the playoffs. The more
- 6:34Speaker 4: it's you know, Winnipeg gets once playoffs start, what is
- 6:38Speaker 4: this team going to be? So but for now, I'm
- 6:41Speaker 4: not too worried. But I'm pulling for Eric Comery because
- 6:45Speaker 4: he is a kid that loves to eat at Michelin
- 6:47Speaker 4: Star restaurants. Nice that is that is his claim to fame.
- 6:52Speaker 4: He loves Mischlin Star restaurants. His family is loaded, so
- 6:57Speaker 4: hockey is but a side piece to him, but he
- 7:02Speaker 4: treats it as his main job, which that's just why
- 7:06Speaker 4: he's the great. You would never know. This kid's like
- 7:08Speaker 4: family of a billionaires. You know, it's crazy. You know
- 7:12Speaker 4: the brick it's the bricks in Canada, the.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Bricks is massive.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's that's his family. Mike Comery, Eric Comray,
- 7:19Speaker 4: that's them.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Wow, pretty wild.
- 7:22Speaker 4: I don't want to out them there. And then all
- 7:23Speaker 4: of a sudden his house gets robbed or something.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But the next time I say bricks, I see bricks
- 7:27Speaker 1: at sixte and Leon's I see him all the time.
- 7:29Speaker 2: A can I'm going, yeah, that's that's the Comery family.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Look at them and it's crazy.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Bricks is dominique.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Can I spin this in a positive and you can
- 7:36Speaker 1: feel free to tell me this is nonsense? But Hellabuck
- 7:39Speaker 1: is always not great in the playoffs, He's you know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's playoff Hellibuck. There's regularlyas in hell Buck and sometimes
- 7:44Speaker 1: people say maybe it's overused fatigue, et cetera. Could you
- 7:47Speaker 1: theoretically say, you know what, this four to six weeks
- 7:50Speaker 1: may be the worst thing in the world, because then
- 7:51Speaker 1: Hellbuck will come back a little more well rested come
- 7:53Speaker 1: playoff time.
- 7:54Speaker 4: All Right, we've we've mentioned it many times. Just played
- 7:58Speaker 4: twenty less games. Now he's gonna he's I think he's
- 8:01Speaker 4: getting this clean up to make sure and ensure that
- 8:04Speaker 4: he's for the Olympics. So I think he's still going
- 8:08Speaker 4: to get those games anyway if he's because I think
- 8:10Speaker 4: if he's healthy and playing, I don't know if they
- 8:12Speaker 4: I would. The conversation for me becomes, is hell a
- 8:17Speaker 4: Buck your start at the Olympics hasn't won anything in
- 8:20Speaker 4: his career other than a vesna. Just because you want
- 8:24Speaker 4: to vesna doesn't mean that you're the goalie that can win.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Do you give it to? Do you give it to
- 8:30Speaker 4: somebody else? Look at the other Jake Older, I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 4: got Jake Ottinger, You got Jonathan Quick, you have who
- 8:36Speaker 4: I think deserves to be out there, and then you
- 8:39Speaker 4: have U who's the other one. I always forget Jeremy
- 8:41Speaker 4: Swayman Like as a time, all those guys have won equally,
- 8:46Speaker 4: not a ting bupkiss, So do you give them the opportunity? Maybe?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Speaking of Team Canada goalies, Bitnington will be there obviously,
- 8:55Speaker 1: because he's been so great under pressure. How about Scott Wedgwood.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Your boys been unbelievable right now? If the Avalanche he's
- 9:00Speaker 1: in the conversation.
- 9:01Speaker 4: The Wedgewood, the wood of wedge hard as a Greek pornhard.
- 9:07Speaker 4: How good zech That fucking Colorado team is something else
- 9:10Speaker 4: that's special right there. They don't have an absolute hole
- 9:13Speaker 4: anywhere in that roster. And and I mean, you look
- 9:17Speaker 4: at Scott Wedgwood, that's a good comparison for not a comparison,
- 9:20Speaker 4: but that's a good story for like Eric Cromery to
- 9:22Speaker 4: look at he goes and obviously Comedy's not going to
- 9:25Speaker 4: steal the net from Hellibuk, but he essentially stole the
- 9:27Speaker 4: net from Blackwood and they become this one two punch
- 9:30Speaker 4: that's just been amazing. Two different styles completely, but he
- 9:35Speaker 4: works so hard. He does. He's such a gamer, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 4: having played with them in Arizona. He cares about winning.
- 9:44Speaker 4: He's a funny guy, very analytical, but he's he's a
- 9:47Speaker 4: dog out there. So I think him taking on this
- 9:50Speaker 4: role is amazing and I think he should be heavily considered.
- 9:52Speaker 4: They just added him to the long list.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He was as the Canada Olympic list of potential participants,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and when.
- 9:58Speaker 4: You look at Canadian goalies right now, it's a it's
- 10:01Speaker 4: a mess like right now to me, Logan Time Thompson's
- 10:04Speaker 4: my starter, yeah, guaranteed. But I know that Bennington is
- 10:09Speaker 4: the big game experience, so they want him playing. But
- 10:11Speaker 4: he has not played great. He played good his last
- 10:13Speaker 4: couple games, a little bit better, right so, but I
- 10:16Speaker 4: still feel like it'll be Bennington. But I feel like
- 10:19Speaker 4: Bennington Logan Thompson, Wedgwood's my three right now, that's my three.
- 10:23Speaker 2: We gotta get benningson in the pod. Still. I know
- 10:25Speaker 2: Tal's working on that, so yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 4: We'll get it. He's working on a lot of guys.
- 10:29Speaker 4: We'll get there. Got the whole NHL Rollodecks.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if he has the Wall of
- 10:35Speaker 1: Saints oven that'd be Hesper. Wollstatt entered Wednesday six to
- 10:39Speaker 1: zero to two record, a nine to thirty five say percent,
- 10:42Speaker 1: three shutouts in his last four games.
- 10:44Speaker 2: This is interesting Minnesota team.
- 10:46Speaker 1: They closed to October a brutal one five and three run.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Before playing the Blockhawks, they'd won five in a row,
- 10:52Speaker 1: post a nine to one on one record in November.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I was talking to Michael Russo on NHL Tonight, who's
- 10:57Speaker 1: the senior writer covering the Wild for the Athletic, and
- 10:59Speaker 1: he was telling me Walstet's been unbelievable for this team.
- 11:02Speaker 1: He was like, there's been a lot of good stories.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You know, it goes beyond Caprice stuff. Matt Boldi's really
- 11:07Speaker 1: had a strong emergence. Their palty kill was disastrous. Now
- 11:10Speaker 1: it has been much better. But Walstad has just really
- 11:12Speaker 1: been honestly incredible right now with this Minnesota team. He's
- 11:15Speaker 1: stolen that away from the incumbent.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Yeah, Gus Buss, Gustavson. I had the pleasure of being
- 11:21Speaker 4: on NHL Now with Kevin Weeks and we kind of
- 11:23Speaker 4: broke down this whole scenario. I mean, you know, Yesper
- 11:27Speaker 4: Walstead comes in and he's had an up and down
- 11:32Speaker 4: start in the HL, had a good year than a
- 11:34Speaker 4: tough year. Now he's found his game. But some people
- 11:37Speaker 4: that I've talked with in the organization, uh, they're like,
- 11:40Speaker 4: this is this is this guy has the potential in
- 11:43Speaker 4: the ceiling to really be something special in the net.
- 11:46Speaker 4: So to have that and Gustavsen is an amazing tandem.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I feel like there's a lot of these tantems that
- 11:52Speaker 4: have emerged this year that are that, you know, the
- 11:55Speaker 4: the era of the goaltender might be coming back more
- 11:57Speaker 4: than we think. You know, I feel like the last
- 11:59Speaker 4: three four years hasn't been great. You know, you have
- 12:02Speaker 4: your your same cast of characters, but nobody's really come
- 12:05Speaker 4: out and shown they can play. Now you have, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 4: the Wedgewoods, the spencer Nights, the Wallsteads, the aser Ops.
- 12:11Speaker 4: You're having a really good little renaissance for goaltenders. So
- 12:15Speaker 4: but I you know, I think the good thing about
- 12:19Speaker 4: Gus they gave him all that money is that you know,
- 12:21Speaker 4: as soon as Walston has kind of a off couple
- 12:25Speaker 4: of games, he'll get the netback. So I think there's
- 12:27Speaker 4: no stress. I think the importance on winning and then
- 12:29Speaker 4: being in a playoff position now is more important with
- 12:33Speaker 4: that money. They just signed Caprice off too, is to
- 12:35Speaker 4: ensure that they're getting to the playoffs. And I like
- 12:41Speaker 4: this team. I watch him, you know, I like him.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I don't see this as a winning team without adding
- 12:47Speaker 4: some pieces, but goaltending wise, they're winning based on goaltending
- 12:51Speaker 4: recently and anytime you can steal some games while you're
- 12:55Speaker 4: figuring it out through goaltending. That's the best case scenario
- 12:58Speaker 4: for a team.
- 12:59Speaker 1: A lot of problems right now. Meantime for Nashville, and
- 13:01Speaker 1: Barry Trotz is getting hot. He's fed up with the
- 13:03Speaker 1: fact this team is it's been a mess. In an
- 13:05Speaker 1: interview with the Tennessee And on Monday, Trotzi had no
- 13:07Speaker 1: plans to fire coach Andrew Brunette clearly laid the blame
- 13:10Speaker 1: for the team's performance.
- 13:11Speaker 2: To the feet of his players.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I need more blank from them. I'm gonna assume me
- 13:15Speaker 1: such shit just as expletive. I need more shit from them.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'm watching the game systematically.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I know who makes mistakes.
- 13:20Speaker 1: When the puck is on someone's stick, they pass it
- 13:22Speaker 1: right to the team. That's not Brunette's fault. He's since
- 13:25Speaker 1: spoken publicly about trading some of his high priced veterans.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Is this a bad look for Trotzi? Do you think
- 13:31Speaker 1: JD or Where does this team go? They rank last
- 13:34Speaker 1: and off, it's third worst on defense. We talked about
- 13:36Speaker 1: a year ago the free agent spending free and it's
- 13:38Speaker 1: not worked out well for them.
- 13:41Speaker 4: It hasn't worked out at all. I just think the
- 13:44Speaker 4: longer we wait, just rip the band aid off. It's
- 13:46Speaker 4: time to blow this up. It's time to move on.
- 13:50Speaker 4: It's time to get Stam cost and Marcissea off the books.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Those guys still have some value left. I know. The
- 13:57Speaker 4: Stamp Coast contract's tough. With the marciaso on is easy
- 14:00Speaker 4: to move. Go get some young guys, rebuild this thing.
- 14:03Speaker 4: They've completely lost their day. They don't know who they are.
- 14:07Speaker 4: And again this goes to show you that sometimes just
- 14:09Speaker 4: paying all the money to the best free agents doesn't
- 14:12Speaker 4: ensure you any sort of success, Like you have to
- 14:16Speaker 4: put the right pieces together and find chemistry. They haven't
- 14:19Speaker 4: been able to found that. It looks awful right now
- 14:22Speaker 4: just to watch them, and you know, it looks even
- 14:24Speaker 4: worse every game than Askaroff wins. The fact that they
- 14:27Speaker 4: got rid of him over UC Sorrows is not looking
- 14:32Speaker 4: great right now. You know, they committed to UC Sorrows
- 14:35Speaker 4: over Askaroff, And everything I've heard through people was like
- 14:39Speaker 4: a lot of people are shocked that they did that
- 14:41Speaker 4: because how good this kid is and can be, and
- 14:44Speaker 4: he's proven it and he's one of the askar Han
- 14:46Speaker 4: one of the best records in NHL in San Jose
- 14:49Speaker 4: Shark's history by a goalie in the month of November,
- 14:51Speaker 4: it's like seven to one, nine sixty save percentage. Crazy.
- 14:55Speaker 4: So it's just the moves haven't worked, and you know
- 14:58Speaker 4: a lot of gyms will just wait and they'll wait
- 15:01Speaker 4: and they'll wait, and it's like just pull the ripcord,
- 15:03Speaker 4: you know, he kind of it's look to move, Ryan O'Reilly,
- 15:07Speaker 4: look to you know. I I saw the news on
- 15:09Speaker 4: what they're asking for Ryan O'Reilly, and I love factor,
- 15:13Speaker 4: but if they think they're going to get a prospect
- 15:15Speaker 4: in a first rounder, you are out of your fucking mind,
- 15:19Speaker 4: you know, like just because they're in such a bad position,
- 15:22Speaker 4: they're just all those guys are at their lowest. They're
- 15:25Speaker 4: all great players, Like I think, I think factors a
- 15:27Speaker 4: steal for any team, Ryan O'Reilly, But to think you're
- 15:31Speaker 4: going to get that, it's like right now, it's like,
- 15:34Speaker 4: try to get as many picks as possible, or as
- 15:36Speaker 4: many young guys as possible, and just take your licks,
- 15:40Speaker 4: get the first overall pick for the next couple of
- 15:42Speaker 4: years and do what San Jose did and try to
- 15:44Speaker 4: just come out of this quickly. But it does not
- 15:48Speaker 4: look good at all. They're not playing the right way,
- 15:51Speaker 4: they're not moving the buck, they look slow. The only
- 15:53Speaker 4: guy that's good that is pissing a drop is Matthew Wood.
- 15:57Speaker 4: He's great. That's their's it's a good young kid on
- 16:00Speaker 4: their team.
- 16:01Speaker 2: The other issue is we get to us Thanksgiving. Is
- 16:04Speaker 2: in fact, normally at this point you say, JD.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Al Right, twenty games this season, you can kind of
- 16:07Speaker 1: tell the haves and the have nots, the contenders and
- 16:10Speaker 1: the pretenders. But now the issue is because of parody,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you have no idea who's actually good. On Wednesday, nine
- 16:16Speaker 1: teams the Eastern Conference, nine more than half the conference,
- 16:19Speaker 1: are separated by two points. Out West, nine teams separated
- 16:23Speaker 1: by four points.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So basically, if.
- 16:25Speaker 1: You're not the Predators, the Flames, Talles team, the Canucks,
- 16:29Speaker 1: or the Saint.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Louis Blues, you still have a shot.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think it's a great thing personal
- 16:34Speaker 1: because I don't know who's good or who's bad.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I suppose what you.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Can spin it is even if you think your team
- 16:38Speaker 1: as lousy, they're still in it. But it's a weird
- 16:40Speaker 1: situation where you go, hey, twenty six teams are still
- 16:43Speaker 1: in this thing.
- 16:44Speaker 4: What a comment the Predator's talles team the Flames. Flames
- 16:50Speaker 4: were his call, Oh Flames, and then you said the
- 16:52Speaker 4: Predator's talle team. I was gonna go Chris Hanson anyway, No.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Flames stir of the year. He's like, they're a playoff team,
- 16:58Speaker 2: like they're gonna make some noise the Flames.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh well, if they're playing better, they're actually they're
- 17:06Speaker 4: stringing together some wins, which is crazy. Yeah, either parody's
- 17:11Speaker 4: never been, you know, other than like, if you look
- 17:14Speaker 4: through the league and like, give me your teams, I'd
- 17:17Speaker 4: say probably Colorado and Dallas are for real. The rest.
- 17:23Speaker 4: You throw Florida in there because it's the Panthers and
- 17:25Speaker 4: you know, you know that once they're healthy, they'll be
- 17:27Speaker 4: for real. But those are the only two teams right now.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Other than that, it's like a toss up. So I
- 17:33Speaker 4: think you got to be upset if you're any team
- 17:35Speaker 4: that's looked outside the playoffs, looking in but also realizing
- 17:38Speaker 4: that you're maybe one move away from or you know,
- 17:42Speaker 4: a couple of string of wins from being in the playoffs.
- 17:44Speaker 4: And I just saw Don Withdell talk about how he's
- 17:48Speaker 4: a little upset with the UH. I think we'll talk
- 17:50Speaker 4: about that a little bit about the schedule, but yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 4: there's injuries, that's slowing up the trade market. There's a
- 17:56Speaker 4: few things that's slowing up the trade market. But you're
- 17:59Speaker 4: one move away from being a Cup contender just because
- 18:04Speaker 4: there's so few. So Colorado Dallas, that's it. Like those
- 18:07Speaker 4: are the those are my two teams other than that
- 18:11Speaker 4: Anaheim maybe, but I think they're just not proven enough
- 18:15Speaker 4: and Vegas doesn't have the goaltending right now. But I
- 18:17Speaker 4: think they're still gonna end up being at the top
- 18:20Speaker 4: of the Pacific. So it's like it's a weird year.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Like it's just weird with the who's up at the
- 18:27Speaker 4: top of the divisions other than Colorado and Dallas. So
- 18:30Speaker 4: we'll see, it's gonna shift a lot.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I think I was gonna say the way you spin it,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you just say a lot of teams are in it.
- 18:35Speaker 1: The real answer to me is it's just a lot
- 18:36Speaker 1: of mediocrity and that gets us to Canada dry. As
- 18:40Speaker 1: of Wednesday, only one Canadian team occupy a playoff spot,
- 18:43Speaker 1: and that team is the Ottawa Senators. They just got
- 18:47Speaker 1: back to captain Brady Kuchuk. I was talking to Brady
- 18:49Speaker 1: Monday night. I said, what are your planning? He's like, listen,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I've been ready to go. Let's be honest.
- 18:53Speaker 2: He's gonna play.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Saint Louis, which is great Thanksgiving back in Saint Louis.
- 18:57Speaker 1: He'll play Friday for the Ottawa Senators. I hasn't played
- 19:00Speaker 1: since October thirteenth. They basically tread water without this guy,
- 19:03Speaker 1: but more importantly so type entering this season, Oilers, Leafs, Halbs,
- 19:08Speaker 1: Jets all struggling. No more concerning than the Edmonton Oilers,
- 19:12Speaker 1: two time defending Western Conference champions, have not geled at all.
- 19:15Speaker 1: They lost eight to three of the team you just
- 19:17Speaker 1: mentioned the Dallas Stars and suddenly on dry Siddle's very concerning.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Everything's very concerning. Though we're nearly thirty games in and
- 19:28Speaker 5: still don't seem to have it down or know what
- 19:31Speaker 5: we are. So yeah, I don't really know what to say.
- 19:36Speaker 5: It was just not good enough right now.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I agree with you on the Panthers when they get healthy,
- 19:40Speaker 1: you're like, yeah, they're legit. The Oilers, this seems to
- 19:43Speaker 1: be a greater concern.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Yeah, though I don't know if you guys like the
- 19:48Speaker 4: last three years when Edmonton is like perennially very bad
- 19:54Speaker 4: to start and they're like streaky to start. But this
- 19:56Speaker 4: is the first comments I've ever heard, because typically have
- 19:59Speaker 4: you ever heard dry Citle or Connor ever say anything
- 20:02Speaker 4: other than like we're fine, We're gonna be good, We're
- 20:05Speaker 4: going to pick it up. Like now, it's like, this
- 20:08Speaker 4: is the first time I've heard dry st I'll be like,
- 20:10Speaker 4: we don't even know who we are. That to me
- 20:12Speaker 4: is concerning because that is like a that's a message
- 20:17Speaker 4: SHND as well to like GM coaching staff like that
- 20:22Speaker 4: when you say you don't know who you are in
- 20:24Speaker 4: your identity. A lot of the times that's a that's
- 20:26Speaker 4: a fired across the bow for the coaching staff because
- 20:30Speaker 4: you're saying there's no clarity and there's no there's no structure.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I mean, you look at the loss of Glenn Gallatson
- 20:36Speaker 4: and Paul Coffee there on that Edmonton Others team. They
- 20:40Speaker 4: just seem to not be in a rhythm. They just
- 20:42Speaker 4: don't know where they're going. Bowman, I guess just recently
- 20:45Speaker 4: gave the two goalies one month until December to figure
- 20:49Speaker 4: it out. And that's how you respond is an eight
- 20:52Speaker 4: to three shal acking where both your goalies get lit up.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Now they're not playing good defensively in front of them,
- 20:59Speaker 4: but by any means or any stretch of the imagination,
- 21:01Speaker 4: but you know them in Toronto, in the in the East,
- 21:05Speaker 4: I'm very nervous. I don't know if Leon and Connor
- 21:08Speaker 4: can pull these guys out of the fire for the
- 21:10Speaker 4: you know, umpteenth time and get them into the playoffs.
- 21:14Speaker 4: But you know, I never want to go on record
- 21:17Speaker 4: doubting them. So I do think Stan Bollman he needs
- 21:22Speaker 4: to make a move now. And I think because you
- 21:25Speaker 4: look at what they did this offseason, like you give
- 21:28Speaker 4: Walman that contract. Don't love that contract. I love guys
- 21:32Speaker 4: getting paid this you know, this is this is a
- 21:34Speaker 4: player's podcasts. As people would say we're for the boys,
- 21:39Speaker 4: as the Spitting Chicklets and all the NHL podcasts would say,
- 21:42Speaker 4: we are for the boys. But that is a lot
- 21:45Speaker 4: of money given to Jake Wallman. They pay back home
- 21:48Speaker 4: because they had to. You have the nurse contract. Your
- 21:52Speaker 4: back end is struggled mightily, and you'd think by paying
- 21:56Speaker 4: those guys that money. Evan Bouchard, you paying the money.
- 21:58Speaker 4: You think by paying that much money that you're gonna
- 22:00Speaker 4: have a stout decord. It hasn't been that way. So
- 22:04Speaker 4: oh yeah, there's it's it's it's worrisome, but all of
- 22:07Speaker 4: Canada figure it. The fuk out Canada. Drink some maple syrup,
- 22:14Speaker 4: go go fight a bear, bang the Misses and the
- 22:17Speaker 4: snow Oh, get to work.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Tell how many Canadian teams are you end up making
- 22:22Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 22:22Speaker 1: You're gonna say the Habs, naturally, it's your team, the Oilers,
- 22:25Speaker 1: the Senators, the Leafs don't make the playoffs. How about
- 22:27Speaker 1: three teams make it? What do you say, Jets make it?
- 22:30Speaker 3: I say Jets definitely make it. I say Leaves to
- 22:32Speaker 3: make it. I just well I didn't. Yeah, I find it.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I'll bet you right now they don't nice.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I love that pick by JD.
- 22:38Speaker 6: I'll take that bet. I mean, we got to figure
- 22:40Speaker 6: out the terms.
- 22:41Speaker 4: But you shave your mustache.
- 22:42Speaker 2: No, that's his best thing.
- 22:45Speaker 6: It's my twinkle baby.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That's that's Tal's signature feature. Come on, I'm.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Still strongly I I picked them.
- 22:50Speaker 6: To win the division. I'm not saying they'll win the division.
- 22:53Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:53Speaker 6: I picked them at the start of the season win
- 22:54Speaker 6: the division. I'm not sure.
- 22:55Speaker 3: That'll happen, but I think the least the playoffs. Wow
- 22:58Speaker 3: to get in Austin back. I find it hard to
- 23:01Speaker 3: believe this team would miss the playoffs.
- 23:02Speaker 2: You're saying Leafs make it, Jets to make it, Habs.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Oilers, Habs are worried me too right now? Not getting
- 23:09Speaker 4: any goaltending.
- 23:10Speaker 6: I'm not sure about Habs.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I gotta be honest, Mon Tempo's not for a good
- 23:17Speaker 3: and Dobish had a great start now he's come back
- 23:18Speaker 3: down to earth.
- 23:19Speaker 6: It's a it's a.
- 23:20Speaker 3: The goaltending is a problem, and they have a lot
- 23:22Speaker 3: of injuries, which I guess a lot of teams do.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But Leaves are in. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I'm I'm not worried about that.
- 23:29Speaker 4: The Leaf I think. I think Ottawa. I think Ottawa
- 23:34Speaker 4: does some damage. I think uh, I like their team
- 23:38Speaker 4: the way it's belt.
- 23:39Speaker 6: They'll add a piece too, They're going to add a piece.
- 23:41Speaker 4: They should, Yeah, I think so them making a splash.
- 23:45Speaker 4: But you know Edmonton, Calgary, no Vancouver, Hell no, they're
- 23:50Speaker 4: they're They're just hanging on by a thread. Uh Calgary,
- 23:54Speaker 4: no Vancouver, no Edmonton. That's the me. I want to say, yes.
- 24:00Speaker 2: But but.
- 24:04Speaker 4: A lot of other teams out there.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We have to determine terms down this bet, the Leafs
- 24:08Speaker 1: will not make the playoffs. When the JD tal says yes,
- 24:11Speaker 1: the mustache stays still to come. Here on NHL inscripted
- 24:16Speaker 1: Trevor Risk, who doesn't love Shorsey.
- 24:18Speaker 2: He'll tell us the moment he realized he made it.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Big and it involved Brad Pitt. It's coming up next.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Our next guest is an accomplished writer and producer of
- 24:39Speaker 1: first roaster prominence.
- 24:40Speaker 2: On the iconic series Letter Kenny.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Before rejoined the show star and creator Jared Keiso on Shorsey,
- 24:46Speaker 1: the international hit about everyone's favorite fictional men's league hockey
- 24:50Speaker 1: star recently teamed up Pianagamakiso on his latest project, I
- 24:53Speaker 1: Killed the Bear. Say what's up for every buddy? Trevor
- 24:55Speaker 1: Risk here an NHL unscripted Trevor, Great to see you.
- 24:58Speaker 7: Man, Thanks for having me, guys. I'm excited.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Listen, you become a star in Canada and the USB.
- 25:04Speaker 1: You entertained a very private profile, so I'm happy you're
- 25:06Speaker 1: coming to this year.
- 25:07Speaker 2: On HL inscription. Uh, what can you share about?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I mean, just this relationship you've had with Jared the
- 25:12Speaker 1: way this is blown up for both of you guys.
- 25:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I saw someone online the other day
- 25:18Speaker 8: called Jared the uh Adam Sandler of Canada. Wow, which
- 25:24Speaker 8: you know, he's got his he's got his crew, he's loyal,
- 25:27Speaker 8: he's uh you know, and he's banging out comedies that
- 25:31Speaker 8: are enjoyed by everyone.
- 25:32Speaker 7: And I feel like, if.
- 25:34Speaker 8: I keep it up, I could maybe become the Judd
- 25:36Speaker 8: Appetitite of Canada. And I love I like that love
- 25:40Speaker 8: Pat you know, maybe not so funny in person, but
- 25:43Speaker 8: funny on the page, and like a student of the
- 25:45Speaker 8: TV shows and comedy also, I love just like everything
- 25:49Speaker 8: has to be the of Canada.
- 25:50Speaker 4: You know, it's we need something, we need something.
- 25:56Speaker 7: Is the Pittsburgh of Canada. You know. It's like, who
- 25:58Speaker 7: wants to do that? I'm not sure, but you're right.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I've interviewed apatad You're right, student of comedy. He's got
- 26:05Speaker 1: all these books, he's always pumping out.
- 26:06Speaker 8: Now.
- 26:06Speaker 2: So if you give me the John Apatowl, can I
- 26:08Speaker 2: trust me? That is a good thing? My friend?
- 26:09Speaker 7: Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't hate that.
- 26:11Speaker 8: It's you know, when we have meetings or any sort
- 26:17Speaker 8: of uh, you know, we're spitballing on ideas or something.
- 26:21Speaker 8: Jared calls me the oracle because I have too much,
- 26:26Speaker 8: not like I was one of those latch key kids
- 26:29Speaker 8: raised in front of Super Channel, you know, like I've
- 26:32Speaker 8: had many times before where someone Jared or the network
- 26:36Speaker 8: will be like, I don't know why you're insistent on
- 26:39Speaker 8: making Tony Shaloub references.
- 26:41Speaker 2: On the show.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Yes, I love Yeah, like Toto shops an icon. I'm
- 26:46Speaker 7: not sure that. Okay, true?
- 26:47Speaker 8: You know so, And I feel like that's not far
- 26:50Speaker 8: off from the sort of an Apatow esque universe and
- 26:53Speaker 8: lifestyle for me.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I completely agree.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Well, we'll talk a little bit about you and Jared
- 26:58Speaker 4: Keiso and just how you guys connected and how was
- 27:03Speaker 4: there a moment where you're like, oh, I got some
- 27:05Speaker 4: here with this guy.
- 27:07Speaker 7: Jared and I have known each other since we were
- 27:09Speaker 7: twenty years old.
- 27:10Speaker 8: Actually I was, there's this very special now like now
- 27:16Speaker 8: it's not there anymore.
- 27:17Speaker 7: There was this bar in Vancouver that a lot of
- 27:21Speaker 7: us worked at.
- 27:22Speaker 8: Jared worked at it as support staff.
- 27:26Speaker 7: I was the DJ there.
- 27:29Speaker 8: The guy who does a lot of the music for
- 27:32Speaker 8: Letter Kenny was the manager.
- 27:34Speaker 7: I feel like playfair and.
- 27:38Speaker 8: Or Hersey Riley and Jonesy worked there as well, and
- 27:43Speaker 8: so we were just you know, young kind of Ontario guys,
- 27:48Speaker 8: moved moved to Vancouver and tried to sort of figure
- 27:51Speaker 8: stuff out. We'velways just been supportive of each other, you know.
- 27:53Speaker 8: When he started the show, all the music was just
- 27:56Speaker 8: like unsigned Vancouver bands and I was one of those
- 28:01Speaker 8: one of those artists. Like if you watch this super
- 28:03Speaker 8: soft birth they scene that's me singing in the background
- 28:07Speaker 8: and the diagetic music there.
- 28:12Speaker 4: The the DJ music in Shorsey. You mentioned your DJ.
- 28:15Speaker 4: I love the like e d M around all the episodes,
- 28:19Speaker 4: Like is that do you have a big hand in
- 28:21Speaker 4: that or is there because.
- 28:24Speaker 8: You know Jared, Jared's a huge music fan, like he's
- 28:27Speaker 8: a he's a huge nut and so he and uh,
- 28:32Speaker 8: you know, I think he said this before, even though
- 28:35Speaker 8: he doesn't do a lot of interviews, uh is uh,
- 28:38Speaker 8: you know, he likes movies like Trainspotting and the Danny
- 28:40Speaker 8: Boyle stuff that tells a bit of a story, with
- 28:43Speaker 8: the music being one of the storytellers, you know, And
- 28:46Speaker 8: so we have scripts that are you know, to the
- 28:49Speaker 8: beat of what.
- 28:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 28:52Speaker 7: Second of each song is happening, you know, and.
- 28:55Speaker 8: Then we get stuff on Shortsey, Like we got Electro
- 28:57Speaker 8: Bank by the Chemical Brothers, an incredible music video when
- 29:00Speaker 8: it came out with you know, Spike Jones, I think
- 29:03Speaker 8: did it.
- 29:04Speaker 7: But then we basically made.
- 29:06Speaker 8: A music video to Electro Bank and the Alger Brothers
- 29:10Speaker 8: and it's like, I don't mean to, you know, pat
- 29:13Speaker 8: myself on the back here, not me, but like, you know,
- 29:16Speaker 8: the whole crew and everyone involved.
- 29:17Speaker 7: But it's just as good of a music video, you know.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I love the train spotting reference. You're right less for life,
- 29:24Speaker 1: Biggie pop right out of the gate. If you're doing that,
- 29:26Speaker 1: you're doing something good.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Trum.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I love the fact when people have unique fandom, Like
- 29:29Speaker 1: my friend Ben Lyons, his dad Jeffrey Lines of the famous
- 29:31Speaker 1: film critic is a Manhattan guy through and through, and
- 29:34Speaker 1: yet adoors the Boston Red Sox his whole life.
- 29:36Speaker 2: He's been getting shpit from people and he's like, that's
- 29:38Speaker 2: just the way it is if my heart went to them.
- 29:40Speaker 1: So for you, specifically living in montre with being a
- 29:42Speaker 1: huge Bruins fan, Bruins just beat the Halves on Saturday night,
- 29:46Speaker 1: obviously exciting game.
- 29:47Speaker 2: The Bruins off to a bachelor. Now I've been rolling.
- 29:49Speaker 2: What is that like for you? Being a best fan
- 29:50Speaker 2: in habs Land?
- 29:54Speaker 8: I think, and I may be paraphrase is wrong here,
- 29:56Speaker 8: but I think it was Chuck Closer Whey. He's got
- 29:58Speaker 8: this essay about how there's your arrival and your nemesis.
- 30:02Speaker 2: You know that's great.
- 30:03Speaker 8: And you kind of like your rival, right, Like if
- 30:08Speaker 8: I go to my local dive bar and I'm talking
- 30:11Speaker 8: like drop ceiling VLTs in the corner, like it's it's
- 30:16Speaker 8: got to.
- 30:17Speaker 7: Carry price jerseys on the wall and stuff like that.
- 30:19Speaker 8: If I ask them to put the Bruins game on,
- 30:22Speaker 8: the sixty eight year old bartender will turn down the music,
- 30:27Speaker 8: tell the entire bar that I asked for this game
- 30:31Speaker 8: to be put on, and then still French.
- 30:37Speaker 7: Yeah, and then.
- 30:42Speaker 8: He'll put the but he'll put the game on for
- 30:44Speaker 8: me and within like five minutes they'll be like, you know,
- 30:46Speaker 8: I but BURGANI, They're all good, like you know you
- 30:49Speaker 8: kind of like if you want a rival, you want
- 30:52Speaker 8: it to be the Halves and like living here is
- 30:54Speaker 8: great and we get like massholes.
- 30:56Speaker 7: In town all the time. Am I allowed to swear
- 30:58Speaker 7: on this podcast? Is that?
- 31:00Speaker 4: Okay?
- 31:01Speaker 7: Go for it, and so you know, we're not that
- 31:03Speaker 7: far away, so you get you know, when the Bruins games.
- 31:05Speaker 8: Are here, you get the massholes up here, which is great,
- 31:10Speaker 8: and but you know, with nemesis, like I hope Vancouver
- 31:14Speaker 8: Canucks go to eighty two every game, like every season,
- 31:17Speaker 8: you know, like I do not like the Vancouver Canucks.
- 31:20Speaker 8: I hope that they always fail in every way possible.
- 31:23Speaker 8: Same with my football fan. I've been a Chiefs fan
- 31:25Speaker 8: since I was seven years old. I love hating the Raiders.
- 31:31Speaker 8: I've got friends of mine who are Raiders fans. And
- 31:33Speaker 8: but then when it comes time for the Denver Broncos,
- 31:36Speaker 8: you know, fifty six nothing, Maybe you know something that
- 31:41Speaker 8: just destroys the hope of that entire fan base and
- 31:44Speaker 8: ownership group. That's what I'm after.
- 31:46Speaker 7: That's the that's the nemesis.
- 31:47Speaker 2: You know, you were like a Christiana Koia guy, the
- 31:49Speaker 2: Nigerian nightmare.
- 31:51Speaker 8: That is exactly how it's I grew up in a
- 31:53Speaker 8: forty nine ers household, which is amazing how it's played
- 31:57Speaker 8: out for the last two years.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Oh, it's been fantastic.
- 32:01Speaker 8: Right, And my older brother and I were at that
- 32:04Speaker 8: age he was like ten, I was you know, six
- 32:06Speaker 8: or seven, and he was like, don't copy me.
- 32:08Speaker 7: You know.
- 32:08Speaker 8: Your older brother's like, can you The worst thing you
- 32:10Speaker 8: can do is copy me. And I just saw Christian
- 32:13Speaker 8: Okoy on television and here I am this sort of
- 32:16Speaker 8: like sensitive kid who's got like a fanny pack full
- 32:20Speaker 8: of pictures he cut out of cat Fancy magazine and
- 32:23Speaker 8: definitely not a lot of friends.
- 32:24Speaker 7: You know.
- 32:25Speaker 8: And there's this guy who's bigger than everybody's and faster
- 32:29Speaker 8: than everybody. He's plowing through everybody and he gets up
- 32:31Speaker 8: with a smile and helps everyone up. Yes, and this
- 32:36Speaker 8: is the Nigerian nightmare for me. And I was like, well,
- 32:37Speaker 8: this is my team.
- 32:38Speaker 7: This is absolutely love it first sight that absolutely.
- 32:42Speaker 4: And chirping chirping and shit talking with a smile on
- 32:46Speaker 4: your face and just the shit eating grin. It's it's
- 32:48Speaker 4: just there's nothing better but you getting back to like
- 32:52Speaker 4: Letter Kenny and Choresy. You know what's so iconic about
- 32:55Speaker 4: those shows is the quick chirps, and that's kind of
- 32:57Speaker 4: went viral. That's what went viral initially and kind of
- 33:02Speaker 4: it kind of caught fire, like was that always the
- 33:04Speaker 4: way you guys were back and forth kind of knowing
- 33:06Speaker 4: each other for so long or is that something that
- 33:09Speaker 4: came to be within the writing on the page.
- 33:12Speaker 7: I think it's pretty natural.
- 33:14Speaker 8: You know, when Jared moved to Montreal and left Vancouver,
- 33:20Speaker 8: we decided we would have little devices to stay in contact,
- 33:24Speaker 8: and one of them was we would just randomly send
- 33:27Speaker 8: each other a text as just two words and it's
- 33:29Speaker 8: the name of a backup goalie from our youth. You know,
- 33:34Speaker 8: I just like one to day on Thursday, just write
- 33:36Speaker 8: Darren poopa.
- 33:37Speaker 2: You know, he's just throwing out Don Beaupray or something.
- 33:41Speaker 7: Don broke Prey was exactly. It was gonna Michael Ute, like,
- 33:43Speaker 7: let's go.
- 33:44Speaker 4: You know, Ron tug Nut Ron I was gonna go.
- 33:48Speaker 4: I was going Ron, Right.
- 33:53Speaker 9: So there's uh, you know, there's that scene that we
- 34:01Speaker 9: have in the Valentine's Day episode where Stuart and Wayne
- 34:07Speaker 9: are finding something in common while everyone else is on
- 34:10Speaker 9: a speed dating, you know event, and they have.
- 34:14Speaker 8: That moment right they're sort of like, who's the toughest
- 34:16Speaker 8: guy in the NHL because you know, the skids do
- 34:18Speaker 8: like the fights and that's kind of the whatever. And
- 34:20Speaker 8: so you know, that's something that was real, That was
- 34:23Speaker 8: something that naturally kind of happened, and so I feel like.
- 34:27Speaker 7: I feel like that probably was the case. With all
- 34:29Speaker 7: that I mentioned.
- 34:30Speaker 8: There's things that I don't even know that are you know,
- 34:32Speaker 8: scenes and chirping and stuff from the series that were
- 34:37Speaker 8: you know, inside jokes between between Jared and someone else
- 34:39Speaker 8: like that one was for us.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's interesting when you look at the series overall.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I mean it's again you're trying to kind of balance Wally,
- 34:51Speaker 1: what you guys are trying to do, Trevor, but also
- 34:52Speaker 1: having the cameos and these stars. I mean, with I
- 34:55Speaker 1: Kill the Bear, it looks awesome and you've got familiar
- 34:57Speaker 1: faces in there for the fans Quiso didn't play for
- 35:00Speaker 1: Jonathan Torres, but also featuring Jack Kroger nicol Back and
- 35:03Speaker 1: George Saint Pierre. Know, there's always what you can say,
- 35:05Speaker 1: but how do you balance that star power working those
- 35:07Speaker 1: guys in there?
- 35:10Speaker 8: Oh? I think that something that I've learned from you know,
- 35:16Speaker 8: Jared and are you know Kara Hafflinson, who's an incredible
- 35:21Speaker 8: executive producer that we work with, is that a comedy
- 35:25Speaker 8: set has got to be chill, like, it's got to
- 35:28Speaker 8: be good vibes on set or else the comedy is
- 35:30Speaker 8: not going to land. You know, you're not going to
- 35:33Speaker 8: get the chemistry right. And so if you're coming into
- 35:39Speaker 8: a set and you're someone who's you know, got eight
- 35:45Speaker 8: million followers online and everyone has already kind of knows
- 35:51Speaker 8: each other, knows each other, you know, how's your mom doing?
- 35:54Speaker 8: You know, that's every member of the crew and and
- 35:57Speaker 8: and everyone already on set, Like you're you're walking into
- 36:00Speaker 8: like a pretty happy h peach, you know, pretty pretty
- 36:04Speaker 8: warm peatrie dish of comedy. Yeah right, yeah, And so
- 36:08Speaker 8: it'd be it would take someone a lot of a
- 36:10Speaker 8: lot of effort to not like find like find their
- 36:15Speaker 8: find their level with that immediately.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:18Speaker 4: So is there which which one of all these you know,
- 36:22Speaker 4: amazing cameos in your eyes was kind of like the
- 36:25Speaker 4: funniest and landed the best, or or just was surprised
- 36:30Speaker 4: you the most.
- 36:32Speaker 8: I'll say that this doesn't it doesn't surprise me because
- 36:35Speaker 8: I actually used to work for him.
- 36:38Speaker 7: Coincidentally. People, I'll say this, people are going to hate
- 36:43Speaker 7: how much they love Chad Krueger in this. Oh, I like,
- 36:48Speaker 7: are they are?
- 36:49Speaker 8: He is gonna he just reads so lovable and charming
- 36:54Speaker 8: and it's so funny people if there's still like leftovers
- 37:00Speaker 8: from that sort of you know, pre poptimism, you know,
- 37:05Speaker 8: like Pitchfork era of hating on you know, Nickelback.
- 37:09Speaker 4: It's always there. Look at this photograph the concerts.
- 37:16Speaker 2: I mean I.
- 37:17Speaker 8: Worked for his record label and he was not really
- 37:19Speaker 8: hands on, but he'd show up once in a while.
- 37:21Speaker 7: And like I knew that guy was funny.
- 37:23Speaker 8: Like he would come in and and and he said
- 37:26Speaker 8: this to me. He's like, you know who has the
- 37:30Speaker 8: best Nickelback jokes? It's not the Internet, it's me.
- 37:38Speaker 4: That's amazing, And he does he doesn't remember.
- 37:41Speaker 7: I don't know if you guys remember, but it was
- 37:42Speaker 7: there was.
- 37:43Speaker 8: They were supposed to play halftime at that Lions Thanksgiving
- 37:46Speaker 8: game years ago, and there was some you know, exhausting,
- 37:50Speaker 8: you know, online petition about it. Nickelback and Paul Sheer
- 37:54Speaker 8: from the League made a Funnier Die video like making
- 37:59Speaker 8: fun of it, like we got to make you guys
- 38:01Speaker 8: more Detroit, and they're like, well, you can just dress
- 38:02Speaker 8: up as robocopp or what you know what I mean,
- 38:04Speaker 8: like and like to have that sense of comedy it yourself. Man,
- 38:09Speaker 8: that plays really well on camera and on set. It
- 38:12Speaker 8: was joy having him there and I was so happy that.
- 38:16Speaker 8: Uh there was like there was a moment where he
- 38:18Speaker 8: did something and they were like, Trevor needs to take
- 38:20Speaker 8: a lap outside because like he can't breathe from laughter.
- 38:26Speaker 2: We can't have him hyperventilating and passing out. It's just
- 38:29Speaker 2: too funny.
- 38:30Speaker 7: You know, you've got those levels of laughter.
- 38:31Speaker 8: And there was just the one that's just the highest
- 38:33Speaker 8: you hit like once every few years.
- 38:37Speaker 7: Oh, just like the like Trevor like he's not laughing.
- 38:39Speaker 8: They look like, no, he can't get breath out because
- 38:42Speaker 8: he's laughing so hard.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Those are the best kind of laughs. It's amazing that
- 38:46Speaker 2: Shorty is just a big hit.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But now the boys in the Shark Curly on tour
- 38:49Speaker 1: playing exhibition hockey games across the country.
- 38:52Speaker 2: What can you share about the tour and just how
- 38:54Speaker 2: wild that's been.
- 38:56Speaker 8: I'm you know, I'm going to the Toronto one. Uh
- 39:00Speaker 8: in uh just over just over a week there. I
- 39:04Speaker 8: know that people got those guys they stick around and
- 39:09Speaker 8: sign every autograph, They stick around, you know till till
- 39:13Speaker 8: the end of it.
- 39:14Speaker 7: And it's been I mean it's in NHL Arenas this time.
- 39:19Speaker 7: The last one was good and it was in some
- 39:21Speaker 7: of the some I think some of the.
- 39:23Speaker 8: Ahl Barns and stuff like that, but these ones are
- 39:25Speaker 8: all that, like you know, Rogers and and uh and.
- 39:30Speaker 7: And like all you know, sort of all all the
- 39:32Speaker 7: big ones.
- 39:33Speaker 8: And I know we've got some guys who've done who've
- 39:35Speaker 8: played there already, right, you know, We've got Terry Ryan
- 39:38Speaker 8: and stuff and who've who've played these before. And it's
- 39:44Speaker 8: I don't know, I like an alternative live event, you know,
- 39:50Speaker 8: like I I was, I like pro I like pro wrestling.
- 39:53Speaker 8: I like indie wrestling, you know, because it's like, no
- 39:57Speaker 8: matter who you bring there, I bring a lot of
- 39:58Speaker 8: Europeans to that because the European mind cannot compromine North
- 40:01Speaker 8: American pro wrestling. It's all very They don't get it,
- 40:05Speaker 8: they but then they get there and then they get it.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Yeah. They somebody goes to a table and they're like,
- 40:09Speaker 4: wait a minute, this is real.
- 40:11Speaker 8: You're like, oh, yeah, that's a real Like that guy's
- 40:13Speaker 8: heard it, like yeah, like wrestle's real.
- 40:14Speaker 7: I'm like it isn't. It isn't, you know.
- 40:16Speaker 8: And so I like going to see stuff that isn't
- 40:20Speaker 8: the same, you know, experiences that like listen, I love
- 40:25Speaker 8: going to hockey. But I also like going to McGill hockey,
- 40:27Speaker 8: you know, I like going to the the PW, like
- 40:30Speaker 8: I like going to see just you know, different kind
- 40:33Speaker 8: of stuff.
- 40:33Speaker 7: And I think that I'm probably not alone on that.
- 40:36Speaker 8: And so you're going and you're seeing this game, and
- 40:38Speaker 8: you're seeing a bunch of people who you were cheering
- 40:41Speaker 8: into the TV for as a kid, and then against
- 40:45Speaker 8: people who you know you're laughing at through the TV.
- 40:48Speaker 8: And it's kind of a unique experience, right all when
- 40:52Speaker 8: you can still get a beer and hang out.
- 40:53Speaker 7: It's great.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Speaking of having beers and hanging out. You know, you
- 40:57Speaker 4: mentioned Terry Ryan, and give me me because I've you know,
- 41:05Speaker 4: met Terry Ryan and been out in Newfoundland a couple
- 41:08Speaker 4: of times drinking with him and his dad and stuff
- 41:10Speaker 4: like that. But give me, you know, I mean, you
- 41:13Speaker 4: have endless Terry Ryan stories, but give me one of
- 41:15Speaker 4: your best ones that you've you've gotten so far from him.
- 41:19Speaker 4: He's furtive, byes, Oh.
- 41:21Speaker 7: He sure is.
- 41:22Speaker 8: I think that I don't care if he If you're
- 41:25Speaker 8: a producer on.
- 41:26Speaker 7: A series or a movie and Terry Ryan is not.
- 41:30Speaker 8: In your series or movie, I think you would do
- 41:33Speaker 8: yourself a good favorite to invite him to your rap
- 41:35Speaker 8: party anyway, because he's a.
- 41:38Speaker 7: He's a good diet at a time.
- 41:41Speaker 8: Boy, I once saw him at like a it was
- 41:43Speaker 8: like a legion or a bowling alley.
- 41:45Speaker 7: Just put like forty bucks into.
- 41:47Speaker 8: A jukebox like from the jump and immediately were like,
- 41:51Speaker 8: now these songs are all correct, These.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Are all the right songs to play. This is like
- 41:57Speaker 7: two CCRs back to back. Love it. That's great, That's right,
- 42:00Speaker 7: all right, let's go. You know.
- 42:05Speaker 8: So, I mean I think that I don't know. I
- 42:09Speaker 8: I love following everything that he's doing. I love when
- 42:11Speaker 8: he got called up to his old junior team or
- 42:14Speaker 8: as old.
- 42:14Speaker 4: The East Coast team that was goes to gets the fight.
- 42:18Speaker 7: Goes and gets in a scrap. Of course.
- 42:20Speaker 8: You know he's he's pretty beloved and for for pretty
- 42:24Speaker 8: good reason.
- 42:25Speaker 7: Yeah, good to be around. I would love to hear
- 42:28Speaker 7: also stories of you drinking with him and his father.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Well we had, uh we had a golf tournament that
- 42:33Speaker 4: Ryan Cloe used to put on. It was Ryan Cloe,
- 42:37Speaker 4: uh Dan Cleary. So when I played for the Sharks,
- 42:40Speaker 4: I played with Ryan Close. He invited me out to
- 42:42Speaker 4: this famed golf tournament and it was in Newfoundland and
- 42:46Speaker 4: it was like a two day tournament. You get there
- 42:48Speaker 4: the night before and you basically guys are like get ready,
- 42:52Speaker 4: like you you don't know what's going to happen. So
- 42:55Speaker 4: you show up and you get dragged to a bar
- 42:57Speaker 4: till four in the morning and there you're just footstomping
- 43:01Speaker 4: the whole night with and Terry Ryan's always around somewhere
- 43:04Speaker 4: with his pops on on George Street and they're grabbing
- 43:07Speaker 4: you and singing and you're everybody's drinking. We had Vincent
- 43:10Speaker 4: the Cavali came out for the tournament and left after
- 43:14Speaker 4: the first night and said, I can't do this, Like
- 43:17Speaker 4: I can't handle this lifestyle, like gotten on a plane.
- 43:20Speaker 4: He's supposed to play to charity golfs. He's like, I'm
- 43:21Speaker 4: not going to survive. Just just left and just because
- 43:24Speaker 4: he was stuck with the the Ryans for a night.
- 43:27Speaker 4: But they're they're sayings our next level. It's it's just
- 43:30Speaker 4: they're they're great people, very happy, go lucky.
- 43:33Speaker 7: Oh I love it and I love writing.
- 43:35Speaker 8: Uh, you know quintessential New food lines for him that
- 43:39Speaker 8: he's like, you know, I don't say that right, you know,
- 43:44Speaker 8: none of us say that, right, like, oh, I don't know, I.
- 43:46Speaker 7: Just read this way.
- 43:49Speaker 4: I mean, some of the lines they say that. The
- 43:51Speaker 4: one I've heard said before is is they'd go the
- 43:55Speaker 4: one guy said, he go, hey, why I got enough
- 43:57Speaker 4: come to shampoo a buffalo.
- 44:06Speaker 7: Duels a special rock in the middle of the ocean.
- 44:08Speaker 8: I was there for the Junos once and it was
- 44:11Speaker 8: right around that time that Iceland, this Icelandic volcano put
- 44:16Speaker 8: all that ash near so all the people who were
- 44:18Speaker 8: going back to Europe, you know, all the big artists
- 44:21Speaker 8: couldn't and so we were all just kind of stuck
- 44:23Speaker 8: in Newfound on George Street for a week.
- 44:26Speaker 2: So it's oh, good luck alcohol Dead.
- 44:28Speaker 8: Mount Dead Mounse is gonna play, you know, a bar
- 44:31Speaker 8: the size of my apartment, you know, and uh and uh,
- 44:38Speaker 8: all the every every girl from Newfoundland from like two
- 44:41Speaker 8: hundred kilometers in the interaction came. It was like what
- 44:44Speaker 8: there's like free parties with pop stars here kind of thing.
- 44:47Speaker 7: That was a hell of a week to have. Newfoundland
- 44:50Speaker 7: couldn't change that for anything.
- 44:53Speaker 10: Tal go ahead, I think Town's gonna come quick. One
- 44:56Speaker 10: about Shoresy Trevor. I mean, obviously the show is a phenomenon.
- 44:59Speaker 10: I mean, what's the moment for you when you first realized, Okay,
- 45:02Speaker 10: this is this is reaching sort of a critical mass
- 45:06Speaker 10: that maybe we were not expecting because I've spoken with
- 45:08Speaker 10: people who only have a passing familiarity with Canadian culture
- 45:13Speaker 10: and hockey and all of it, and they love choresy.
- 45:15Speaker 10: So when did you first notice, Okay, this is this
- 45:18Speaker 10: is turning into something here.
- 45:21Speaker 8: I'm a as I mentioned, big NFL fan. Just this
- 45:24Speaker 8: this past week, the Boys being like kind of honored
- 45:28Speaker 8: at the Arizona Cardinals game was kind of nuts, you know,
- 45:32Speaker 8: like they were there, like they were the lineup for
- 45:34Speaker 8: the players to run through and ye you know, the
- 45:36Speaker 8: introductions and that kind of thing. And I remember on
- 45:41Speaker 8: set they were like they were like Trevor, you know,
- 45:44Speaker 8: one of the pridsoners, Like Trevor you know a lot
- 45:45Speaker 8: about the football. This is a this is a good
- 45:47Speaker 8: thing to do, right, And it was like the NFL
- 45:49Speaker 8: owns a day of the week. Yeah, it's absolutely a
- 45:55Speaker 8: great thing to do. I think that there was I
- 45:59Speaker 8: had a moment like what you're describing with letter Kenny.
- 46:02Speaker 7: I was living in Nashville and I was sitting in
- 46:06Speaker 7: a hotel bar downtown, like right near a bridge Stone
- 46:11Speaker 7: arena and the Oscars were on, and.
- 46:16Speaker 8: That was the night that on the Red Carpet Brute
- 46:20Speaker 8: Brad Pitt brought up letter Kenny and it was like
- 46:26Speaker 8: my phone kind of exploded, and there was always like
- 46:31Speaker 8: imagine a Texan at a fancy hotel and just stopped
- 46:34Speaker 8: there and that's like ten gallon hat kind of groups
- 46:37Speaker 8: of people and they were like just so excited for
- 46:40Speaker 8: me that they just bought the whole bar like drinks
- 46:45Speaker 8: all night because they were excited for me, who they
- 46:47Speaker 8: just met. And that was that was a big one,
- 46:50Speaker 8: I think. And this is great because I had just
- 46:52Speaker 8: started dating my gal who's from Latvia and she had
- 46:56Speaker 8: never been to North America before and I had just
- 46:58Speaker 8: sort of moved that she came there and she was like,
- 47:00Speaker 8: so this is what America is. Hey, It's just like
- 47:04Speaker 8: I had Texans buying you drinks for Hollywood nonsense. And
- 47:07Speaker 8: I was like, yeah, definitely, this is a regular day
- 47:10Speaker 8: for me, normal normal day.
- 47:12Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:15Speaker 10: And is it season five coming soon? I mean, is
- 47:17Speaker 10: there anything you can share his production Vegas?
- 47:22Speaker 7: Yeah, we wrap for that. I don't know.
- 47:27Speaker 8: I have always the most annoying answer this this type
- 47:30Speaker 8: of question because like, I don't pay attention to when
- 47:34Speaker 8: it comes out until I see an ad for it
- 47:36Speaker 8: was like, oh sweet, because if you give it enough time,
- 47:38Speaker 8: I'm like, I'm the first person, one of the first
- 47:42Speaker 8: people to touch it, right, And so you know, Jared
- 47:45Speaker 8: comes up with stuff and we kind of work in
- 47:46Speaker 8: so with the show. It goes through so many different
- 47:49Speaker 8: people adding so much different stuff that if I just like,
- 47:53Speaker 8: don't reread scripts or don't whatever, and then I watch
- 47:56Speaker 8: it when everyone else comes out, you can really enjoy it,
- 47:59Speaker 8: you know.
- 48:00Speaker 7: So my guess is probably.
- 48:03Speaker 8: Soon season five comes out, like within the next few
- 48:08Speaker 8: few months would be my best guess. But I have
- 48:11Speaker 8: no official answer for that i am, except I've seen
- 48:15Speaker 8: the trailer and uh it's uh, it's terrific. I love
- 48:19Speaker 8: that we get to do trailers for the shows that
- 48:22Speaker 8: are different each time and have a different, you know
- 48:25Speaker 8: sort of effect, and the trailer for this one is
- 48:27Speaker 8: just fantastic.
- 48:28Speaker 7: Love it so much.
- 48:29Speaker 4: That's that's a beautiful jut Apatow of Canada answer.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, exactly.
- 48:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I think my direction is pointed that way and
- 48:41Speaker 8: I just have to accept it.
- 48:43Speaker 2: There.
- 48:45Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that it's fine. Yeah, there's gotta be
- 48:47Speaker 8: some sort of uh you know, Gary Shannling of Canada
- 48:51Speaker 8: is gonna start be really mad at me and uh
- 48:54Speaker 8: for for leaving or so.
- 48:55Speaker 7: Yeah, that's what's gonna happen.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Absolutely, I love it.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Trevor Risk obviously can't wait for Surecy. We'll both pump
- 49:01Speaker 1: our fist when the promo comes out. I kill the
- 49:03Speaker 1: bear of the new product. Well with Jared, this was awesome, man,
- 49:05Speaker 1: Thanks so much, and go Bees.
- 49:07Speaker 7: Go Bees. Thanks for having me, guys, I really appreciate it.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Cine Final in sixty here about Del Toros Frankenstein, currently
- 49:22Speaker 1: on Netflix coming roaring in the theaters.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Listen.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I love the Frankenstein Kenneth Browna did back in the nineties,
- 49:27Speaker 1: Robert de Niro playing the creature. But this is also
- 49:30Speaker 1: a very entertaining one. And tal can agree with me
- 49:32Speaker 1: one thing about Del Toro. My man brings it. He
- 49:34Speaker 1: loves natural sets, natural disasters, and he's obsessed with monsters.
- 49:38Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if it's the shape of water of pants, Labyrinth.
- 49:41Speaker 1: You watch a Deltra movie, you're gonna get some monsters
- 49:43Speaker 1: and it's gonna be gory and grimy. I thought it
- 49:45Speaker 1: was too long, which is generally might quibble when it
- 49:47Speaker 1: comes to tours having this kind of autonomy, but listen.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Even a two hour twenty minute running time.
- 49:53Speaker 1: My only issue is I wish I'd seen it on
- 49:55Speaker 1: a big screen like someone with Frankenstein, especially with the
- 49:58Speaker 1: aesthetics and the production design that he puts into his work.
- 50:00Speaker 1: You want to see that on as big as screen
- 50:02Speaker 1: as possible. Even with my brother decent home setup, it
- 50:05Speaker 1: was I just feel like I lost a little bit.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but I lost a little.
- 50:09Speaker 4: Bit of that luster. But you're rich, You're rich.
- 50:11Speaker 1: We know it's not true, but still it's I think
- 50:14Speaker 1: a really entertaining movie. And hearkening once again in a reminder,
- 50:17Speaker 1: tell even these timeless stories can be told well, especially
- 50:20Speaker 1: when you have a specific tour like Del Toro and
- 50:23Speaker 1: Netflix basically give me a blank check to say.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Okay, do whatever you want to do. Good performances all around.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Jacob Lori Oscar Isaac Mia goth enjoy Frankenstein on Netflix.
- 50:37Speaker 3: I had a quick question is are we worried that
- 50:39Speaker 3: Garma Del Toro is going to kind of turn into
- 50:41Speaker 3: Tim Burton a little bit here?
- 50:43Speaker 4: But in terms of and what can I ask you
- 50:45Speaker 4: a follow up question of that.
- 50:47Speaker 3: What is your problem with Tim Burton. I love Tim Burton.
- 50:50Speaker 3: I'm a huge fan of his, but he and.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Like their vision A great movie in a long time,
- 50:57Speaker 1: well before Christmas. That's a long time, A long time ago,
- 51:01Speaker 1: twenty five years ago, Jesus Man eighty nine.
- 51:04Speaker 2: It's my long time.
- 51:05Speaker 4: My wife ties me to a chair and forced me
- 51:07Speaker 4: to watch it.
- 51:08Speaker 6: I mean, it's there's some parallels here.
- 51:10Speaker 3: There are these incredible visionary directors who come up for
- 51:14Speaker 3: Christmas amazing years ago.
- 51:16Speaker 2: The guys have been a good movie a long time.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Well because he keeps remaking the same old stories that
- 51:21Speaker 3: we've seen so many times.
- 51:23Speaker 6: You know Del Toro. You mentioned Pan's Labyrinth, Shape of Water.
- 51:26Speaker 6: Incredible stories, totally.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Innovative, and then we get Pinocchio and Frankenstein Pinocchio week.
- 51:32Speaker 4: That's a good call. I I like it better. There's nothing.
- 51:37Speaker 4: There's nothing original anymore. Everything's an ip is. You just
- 51:40Speaker 4: need the ip everything. There's no more original storytellers anymore.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Wake up.
- 51:45Speaker 3: That might be Maybe that's the only way these guys
- 51:47Speaker 3: can get that budget is if they do something that
- 51:50Speaker 3: is considered less risky because it's been done before.
- 51:53Speaker 6: But Tim Burt.
- 51:54Speaker 3: I love Timbern but I don't want to see another
- 51:56Speaker 3: Alice in Wonderland or you know, I'm not.
- 51:59Speaker 6: Interested in this stuff. I want to see something new.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Beetle just too was such a cash grabbing. Really, this
- 52:04Speaker 2: is what we're doing.
- 52:05Speaker 4: This is what we're doing. We're bringing back the fossil Mike.
- 52:08Speaker 4: I love Michael Keaton.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Though I love Michael Keaton. You guys seven years old.
- 52:11Speaker 1: It still looks great. But we did not need another
- 52:13Speaker 1: Beetle juice. We don't need this either. Schedule pains GM's
- 52:17Speaker 1: sounding off this week. Tratsey went after his players and
- 52:19Speaker 1: Columbus Blue Jackets GM don Jandell went after the league's
- 52:22Speaker 1: schedule makers. Corell Marchenko, Zacharinsky, Matthew Olivia all banged up.
- 52:27Speaker 1: So Columbus's GM and president of Hockey Operations took issue
- 52:31Speaker 1: with the schedule this season, which has been compressed because
- 52:33Speaker 1: the upcoming Winter Olympics. In an appearance on ts N
- 52:36Speaker 1: ten to fifty What Else, said, certainly there's no time
- 52:38Speaker 1: for rest, and I think that leads to more injuries
- 52:40Speaker 1: than normal. Waddell also mentioned all these injuries have also
- 52:44Speaker 1: stalled the trademarket in the early going this season, How
- 52:47Speaker 1: problematic is it, JD? This compressed schedule. We know it
- 52:50Speaker 1: was an issue last year with four nations. It's an
- 52:52Speaker 1: issue again right now at the Olympics.
- 52:54Speaker 4: I mean yeah, and it's it's just is what it is.
- 52:58Speaker 4: It's what we're it's where we're at. You're gonna see
- 53:01Speaker 4: more injuries. Guys are playing with some injuries because they
- 53:04Speaker 4: want to be on the Olympic roster and not lose
- 53:06Speaker 4: their spot, so they're playing with some nagging injuries. But
- 53:11Speaker 4: it's this is gonna be the world we're gonna have
- 53:13Speaker 4: to live with. I think in you know, there's I
- 53:17Speaker 4: love the NHL and I love what they do and
- 53:19Speaker 4: the way they grow the game, But you know, adding
- 53:21Speaker 4: two games, in my eyes, isn't the solution to this.
- 53:26Speaker 4: You know, I think the game's never been more popular,
- 53:29Speaker 4: it's never been more interesting, it's never been more everywhere.
- 53:32Speaker 4: We got Jack Hughes, Jack Cues on a date with
- 53:35Speaker 4: Tate McCrae in West Village. Wow, with the pop star herself.
- 53:41Speaker 4: We're hot right now. So you know, you want to
- 53:44Speaker 4: keep all these guys healthy and not add more of
- 53:46Speaker 4: a load to them. That they already have, and yeah,
- 53:50Speaker 4: I just I worry that, you know, they're pushing the
- 53:52Speaker 4: guys too hard, and especially the guys will be playing
- 53:55Speaker 4: the Olympics and then you're gonna have four nations again,
- 53:57Speaker 4: you're gonna have a World Cup of Hockey, You're gonna
- 53:59Speaker 4: have Olympics. So it's like, we're gonna get used to
- 54:02Speaker 4: this compressed schedule. And I don't know how many more
- 54:04Speaker 4: times I can do the Stanley Cup Finals in the
- 54:05Speaker 4: middle of June July. So you know, those are just
- 54:10Speaker 4: my thoughts. Those are a couple of my thoughts. I
- 54:11Speaker 4: think it is what it is, and I understand that
- 54:14Speaker 4: they're trying to brand themselves and get away from the
- 54:17Speaker 4: other sports and kind of own the day. And this
- 54:20Speaker 4: is kind of the growing pains that you have to
- 54:22Speaker 4: go through before you figure out what works. And I
- 54:24Speaker 4: truly believe they will find a system that works. But
- 54:27Speaker 4: I don't love the condensed schedule, but it.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Is what is a system that works.
- 54:32Speaker 1: So you can't have hockey in August, but you also
- 54:34Speaker 1: can't have hockey in June, like it ends up being
- 54:36Speaker 1: frustrating because you're like, you have these short training camps.
- 54:39Speaker 1: They hit the ground running. You have to have the
- 54:41Speaker 1: break and there's mandated certain times. Now guys don't want
- 54:44Speaker 1: to practice as much. I don't know what the answer is.
- 54:45Speaker 1: It feels like it's just hockey is inevitably going to
- 54:47Speaker 1: be happening in June, and this is just the life
- 54:49Speaker 1: we have.
- 54:49Speaker 2: If you're gonna have international.
- 54:51Speaker 4: Tournaments, that's it. This is where we're going. And just
- 54:53Speaker 4: make our bone, you know, just hopefully try to get
- 54:56Speaker 4: a little bit paid, a little bit more for the
- 54:58Speaker 4: podcast and be good to go. Just be compensated for
- 55:01Speaker 4: a time.
- 55:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know that was a part of it,
- 55:03Speaker 2: but if that happens, I'd be fair.
- 55:04Speaker 11: It'd be amazing, right, compress schedules, shirt whatever, maybe a
- 55:07Speaker 11: video element. You know, I would love to see iHeart
- 55:10Speaker 11: just I'll wear you know, I'd love to wear an
- 55:12Speaker 11: iHeart sweater and an iHeart baseball cap for video element,
- 55:16Speaker 11: just to show that we are sponsored by the beautiful
- 55:19Speaker 11: company that is iHeart.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Especially if we go to NHL Tonight together. NHL Tonight
- 55:23Speaker 1: first Shift. I was said Brian Boyle last week, Steve
- 55:25Speaker 1: co If you and me are on together wearing iHeart
- 55:28Speaker 1: Garb who says no to that.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Who says no to that. That's must see YouTube content.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Two more topics here for you. One shot to the
- 55:37Speaker 2: little guys like me.
- 55:38Speaker 4: No, I don't want this one. I don't like this one.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough.
- 55:40Speaker 4: Next, let's talk about Jason Robertson in the longest gold
- 55:44Speaker 4: streak in Dallas Star's history.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead, you want to talk Jason after after.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Darryl Demurr story, Panthers Dad's cowboy up, I like this okay?
- 55:55Speaker 1: And enjoining their annual dad trip the Florida Panthers players
- 55:58Speaker 1: dad's dress for the occasion. Monday night, they watched their
- 56:00Speaker 1: boys beat the Prides eight three in Nashville, all the
- 56:03Speaker 1: dads at tend of the game wearing matching jeans, cowboy
- 56:06Speaker 1: hats and vests. A great way to enjoy watching your
- 56:09Speaker 1: kids get a big way in music City. We've had
- 56:11Speaker 1: your dad, Daryldmers on the pod. He's coaching hockey guy.
- 56:14Speaker 1: How did he get along on the dad trips during
- 56:16Speaker 1: your career?
- 56:17Speaker 4: A one story always comes to mind, and it involved
- 56:22Speaker 4: Nashville and Carrie Underwood. It was like, I think it
- 56:26Speaker 4: was my first or second in San Jose and we
- 56:29Speaker 4: go to Nashville and you know the guys are the
- 56:34Speaker 4: dads are, you know, running a muck in Nashville and
- 56:37Speaker 4: having a good time. And so, you know, we play
- 56:40Speaker 4: the game. I play the hockey game. I think we
- 56:41Speaker 4: won that game as well. So we get downstairs and
- 56:45Speaker 4: kind of see my dad and he's kind of like
- 56:49Speaker 4: a little he's like a little down, a little upset
- 56:51Speaker 4: or you know, still happy we won and you know,
- 56:54Speaker 4: yucking it up with the dads. But I'm he's like,
- 56:56Speaker 4: you wouldn't believe what happened, Like what do you mean?
- 56:59Speaker 4: And he goes, I'm walking We have the suite, so
- 57:02Speaker 4: I'm walking through the whatever the hallway between all the suitets,
- 57:07Speaker 4: and he's like, I'm just walking around, going to the
- 57:09Speaker 4: bathroom or you know. He's just like I was maybe
- 57:11Speaker 4: going get merch or something. And he goes, I look
- 57:13Speaker 4: into one of the suits and he goes, it's Carrie
- 57:16Speaker 4: Underwood's sweet you know, married to Mike Fisher, and she go.
- 57:22Speaker 4: He goes, he like looks And at that time, my
- 57:25Speaker 4: dad we watched American Idol. Carrie Underwood was like the
- 57:30Speaker 4: biggest thing in our house for a little while for
- 57:34Speaker 4: my mom and my dad.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Huge.
- 57:36Speaker 4: So my dad like kind of takes a step in.
- 57:38Speaker 4: He's wearing like a San Jose Sharks jersey, my jersey.
- 57:41Speaker 4: So he walks in and somebody like immediately like, hey,
- 57:45Speaker 4: who are you x y z And it's it was
- 57:48Speaker 4: like her manager, her brother or security or something, and
- 57:52Speaker 4: he sees her. So he's like talking to security guard
- 57:54Speaker 4: and say, hey, I'm on a dad's trip with the
- 57:57Speaker 4: San Jose Sharks. I'm here. My son's playing in the game,
- 58:01Speaker 4: like you know, me and my wife love Carrie Underwood
- 58:04Speaker 4: and all the meanwhile, Carrie Underwood kind of like glances
- 58:06Speaker 4: over at the door and sees the.
- 58:10Speaker 6: Security guard over her brother who was talking about glance.
- 58:14Speaker 4: And she goes like hey, and then the guy looks
- 58:17Speaker 4: back and she goes, get him out of here. So
- 58:22Speaker 4: my dad, I thought he was going to go the
- 58:25Speaker 4: other way.
- 58:25Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say she was and
- 58:28Speaker 1: that guy was being a prick and just goes, dude,
- 58:29Speaker 1: get out of here.
- 58:30Speaker 2: Sorry, no, No, she walked in, she booted, She boots him.
- 58:35Speaker 4: He gets bounced out of the out of the cool
- 58:37Speaker 4: Kids club in his little in his Sharks jersey, and
- 58:41Speaker 4: I guess he called my mom. He called my mom
- 58:44Speaker 4: and and he's like, my mom's like hell, and he's like,
- 58:47Speaker 4: we don't like Carrie Underwood. Now he's like haters. She's like,
- 58:50Speaker 4: what happened? He's like, Carriewood kicked me out of her suite.
- 58:53Speaker 4: I was like, that's what you get for trying to
- 58:57Speaker 4: brush shoulders with the stars.
- 59:00Speaker 1: I think I think it's a jersey, though, I think
- 59:01Speaker 1: if it was anything else, so she had a you.
- 59:03Speaker 4: Know, I love it. I fucking love it. I love
- 59:09Speaker 4: that he got bounced.
- 59:11Speaker 1: But do you think she was showing her true colors?
- 59:13Speaker 1: Do you think she's not as warm and friendly as
- 59:15Speaker 1: people realize or was it just a shark jersey?
- 59:17Speaker 2: She goes, hey, beat it.
- 59:19Speaker 4: I don't think it was a shark's jersey, but she
- 59:21Speaker 4: maybe just was like, who is this right?
- 59:23Speaker 2: Random coming in my sweet Yeah, it was.
- 59:25Speaker 4: This super fan, absolute mute and coming in trying to
- 59:28Speaker 4: shake my hand with sweaty palms to get out of here.
- 59:34Speaker 1: It was.
- 59:36Speaker 2: So disheveled, that's what it was.
- 59:38Speaker 4: Well, I just love it because no, my dad's not
- 59:40Speaker 4: like my dad's like always in a suit, always dressed nice,
- 59:43Speaker 4: so like his hair was done and he's like presentable man.
- 59:46Speaker 4: So it's just so funny that he gets bounced because
- 59:49Speaker 4: it just killed him. It crushed him.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Oh I do like that, said to your mound, like
- 59:54Speaker 2: we're down on her now that's it. We're not watching
- 59:55Speaker 2: a recolo now we're done.
- 59:56Speaker 4: So our whole family is out on Carrie Underwood.
- 59:59Speaker 1: I like it, you know, with the virture now out
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: on her too, solidarity with the burs.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: It's bullshit. Imagine, imagine she listens to the podcast That's
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: not gonna happen and she reaches out and sends a
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: signed microphone or boots.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Were back in that we're back in Carrie Underwood, or.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: Like or my dad told the wrong story. My dad
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: was like walking in like trying to grab at her
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: and Potter and like got like tossed out.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: That's the better story. He was aggressive and they're like
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: sexual advances.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: Here, yeah, or she like remembers that story and she's like, yeah,
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: you were you were.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Eye with elbowed her eyes and like making me uncomfortable.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: That's why I got ready.
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: There's no way she remembers that story.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: Of course she doesn't. You how many times you know
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: how many times she's waved people offful up security multiple
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: the last three you want to give.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Some love to j Rob, not Jay Roy.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Jason Robertson's seven game goal streak eleven goals a new
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Stars franchise record, previous record held by Mike Bdano.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: Yeah, especially after you know he was stood. I would
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: say that I want to take credit for that because
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: he listened to my Empty Editors podcast and saw that
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: I had called because we know the story that I
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: had called that year of Fluke Yes, and he took
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: it to heart. I'm a fan of his, I'm a
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: super fan of his now. I loved how analytically he is,
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: the way he thinks the game, and he's been good.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: That Dallas Stars team's been mighty mighty good with him
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: and Wyat Johnston there love it. Jamie Ben got his
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: four hundred goal last game too, So crazy. This is
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: a team man, look out. They're meaner. They're meaner this year.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: Miko Randon's getting suspended. Kids heads are falling off, kids,
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: pet's heads are falling off. Where fucking Dallas Stars baby
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: put the belt buckle to him.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Mad Nan Stars and Avalanche both's great. Robertson's now tied
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: for third the NHL goals by McKinnon and Morgan Geeky,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: who's been unbelievable for the Boston Bruins. Speaking of unbelievable,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I'm off to Buffalo after Black Friday, huge game Bears
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Eagles both eight and three.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: My brother's a Bears fan.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But after that, I'm gonna be checking out the Winnipeg
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Jets minus Hellibuck, your boy air Comray against the Flow
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Sabers and you just said we're going yeah, exactly, Jet
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Sabers on Monday Night Prime and We're off to Buffalo.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: You just talked to Tge Thompson twelve goals, great guy
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and dressed up his Monsters Inc.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: For Halloween and terrific segment. He dressed up his randall
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: exactly am always.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: A lot of you got a lot of flak for
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: the Denhim sweater.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: People were like texting me and be like, all the
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: money in the world you were in a Denhim sweater.
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: I was like, I don't know, kind of I kind
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: of fucked with it. No.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I thought it was a good look.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: You and you and week see a nice and cash
