- 0:00Speaker 1: Here on this tax on Tuesday, all right, Texas Longers
- 0:03Speaker 1: getting ready to take on the Clemson Tigers, and Da
- 0:07Speaker 1: Blushweeney did a did a media zoom.
- 0:10Speaker 2: After the announcement came down on.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Sunday, we played you several of his comments, but there
- 0:15Speaker 1: were a few more we wanted you to hear because
- 0:17Speaker 1: they do have connection here. First of all, remember that
- 0:20Speaker 1: Andrew mccubaugh LBJ product of course, started his collegiate career
- 0:23Speaker 1: at Clemson and played there for three years and then
- 0:25Speaker 1: transferred and.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Coach. When he was asked what stood out about mccouba
- 0:33Speaker 2: the most when he was recruiting him, Man, I love Macoopa.
- 0:37Speaker 3: He was a very unique situation.
- 0:39Speaker 4: You know, I never met mccuba ever until the day
- 0:42Speaker 4: he showed up on campus. You know that was all
- 0:45Speaker 4: the COVID and all that. You know, never was able
- 0:48Speaker 4: to go see him. He was never able to visit campus,
- 0:51Speaker 4: but he wanted to come to Clemson, and you know,
- 0:54Speaker 4: just I just loved his spirit and I loved his heart,
- 0:57Speaker 4: and you know, he was just a really neat kid
- 1:00Speaker 4: that that you know, I mean, it was I mean,
- 1:03Speaker 4: it's one of the that that whole time was one
- 1:06Speaker 4: of the strangest times of my life, because you know,
- 1:08Speaker 4: recruiting is a very personal thing and you get people
- 1:11Speaker 4: come to campus and you go there.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Literally the first time I ever.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Met him was when he got dropped off and we
- 1:18Speaker 4: had everybody had to have the COVID protocols in place
- 1:21Speaker 4: because that's when he came in. And uh, Man Andrew
- 1:24Speaker 4: was a great player for us. Uh he did everything
- 1:28Speaker 4: that was asked to him. He worked his butt off
- 1:30Speaker 4: here and uh you know, certainly, you know wish he
- 1:34Speaker 4: had had we'd been able to to finish here. But listen, Uh,
- 1:38Speaker 4: you know these guys, I mean there's he did everything
- 1:42Speaker 4: that was asked to him at Clemson and uh he
- 1:45Speaker 4: gave a lot to this program and.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And made a bunch of big plays.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I'm happy for him, you know, for him, he had
- 1:52Speaker 4: the opportunity, he wanted something a change, and it was
- 1:56Speaker 4: an opportunity for him to go back home and and
- 1:59Speaker 4: he's had a great year.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He's an outstanding football.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Player and uh, you know, hopefully we were able to
- 2:04Speaker 4: to help him develop, but you know, happy that he's
- 2:08Speaker 4: been able to have a great year. And you know,
- 2:11Speaker 4: just kind of ironic that we're meeting in the playoff.
- 2:13Speaker 4: But that's really you know, you'll see more of that
- 2:17Speaker 4: as the years go by, with with you know, guys
- 2:21Speaker 4: moving around from place to place. But I got nothing
- 2:24Speaker 4: but but great great things to say about Coops.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Coops. Interesting not not Drew, Nope, Coops. Yeah, Coops.
- 2:41Speaker 1: There's any whos that in the broadcast on the first
- 2:44Speaker 1: I will make reference to it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I don't think I'll be calling him Coops.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think your calls would be great with
- 2:52Speaker 5: you know, Coobs yea.
- 2:55Speaker 1: By the way, I've got a couple of questions about this,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and I'm glad you brought this up, if indirectly. Folks
- 3:05Speaker 1: have asked me about names that I've called certain players
- 3:09Speaker 1: during the year and how it's kind of changed. When
- 3:13Speaker 1: the year began for Texas, we were calling number two
- 3:19Speaker 1: of the wide receiver Matthew Golden. We called him Matthew Golden.
- 3:23Speaker 1: We were still call him Matthew Golden. Then sark I
- 3:26Speaker 1: noticed every time on the show and they kept saying Matt,
- 3:29Speaker 1: Matt and Matt did this Matt, So we asked Matthew
- 3:33Speaker 1: Golden in a postgame show. I think this was might
- 3:37Speaker 1: have been the OU game, the OU game or the
- 3:41Speaker 1: Vanderbilt game. Anyway, we asked him, hey, we've heard matt
- 3:45Speaker 1: We've heard Matthew. His actual words were, I mean, it's
- 3:49Speaker 1: on the postgame locker room show.
- 3:51Speaker 2: You can hear him.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And he said, yeah, I prefer Matt on the same
- 3:59Speaker 1: postgame in or you we had Quin Travian Wisner. Now,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I've known young mister Wiseman for several years now, going
- 4:07Speaker 1: back to those high school days at the Souta and
- 4:08Speaker 1: did games that he played in the SODA, including state championship.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And we were told from day one it's Trey Trey Wisner.
- 4:17Speaker 1: That's what his coach, Claud Mathis told us. And then
- 4:21Speaker 1: so but there was enough doubt cast on this, so
- 4:24Speaker 1: I asked him that interview. I said, are you preferring
- 4:30Speaker 1: Quin Travian or trade? Because no, no, no, no, it's Trey.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I said, okay, fine, I just wanted to make sure.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So then I passed this along to Football media Relations
- 4:43Speaker 1: and they were like stunned, and so no, no, no, we
- 4:45Speaker 1: were told it's Matthew, and we were told it's Quintravian.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And I said, you might want to ask him again
- 4:54Speaker 1: because that's what And then sure enough, what ultimately came
- 4:58Speaker 1: down to is we were told later it is Matthew
- 5:01Speaker 1: and it is Quintravian because that's what their parents want.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Ah.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Now, we had that several years ago with Aj Williams.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Aaron Williams, the defensive back from McNeil to play for Texas,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and he told all of his teammates and all of
- 5:18Speaker 1: us it was Aj. And so we're calling him Aj
- 5:21Speaker 1: during the season. And I got an email from his dad,
- 5:24Speaker 1: who I know, good dude, Eugenie. He said, hey, we
- 5:26Speaker 1: gave him it's his Christian based name, Aaron. We gave
- 5:30Speaker 1: him that name for a reason. If you can please,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I said, sure, no problem. So I told that to
- 5:37Speaker 1: Mac Brown. I said, by the way, Aaron's dad he
- 5:41Speaker 1: goes Eugenie. I said yeah, he said, we'd prefer that
- 5:44Speaker 1: you call him Aaron and matt goes. Then they better
- 5:47Speaker 1: tell their kid because the kids tell him us to
- 5:50Speaker 1: call him this. So what I've taken to doing is
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'll say Matthew Golden, I'll say quin Travian Wisner. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: do because that's what the parents are In a second
- 6:03Speaker 1: reference on a play, blah blah blah, quin Travian Riisinger
- 6:07Speaker 1: Weisner a big run out of the forty seven yard
- 6:09Speaker 1: line that dad they had to do, and.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Trey made a great cut.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You know, I'll do a second reference on that, just
- 6:15Speaker 1: to show respect to both.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Sides on that as easier to say Trey than it is.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Well it is, and I don't have any problem with
- 6:24Speaker 1: saying Quin Travian. But but I've known Imonstrations who was
- 6:28Speaker 1: in high school. So I think I can incorporate both
- 6:30Speaker 1: of those in there and still provide the proper context
- 6:33Speaker 1: on that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And the same thing too with Matthew.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Golden and with with Trey, like we knew him by Trey,
- 6:40Speaker 5: because that's what when you you know, when he committed
- 6:42Speaker 5: the Texas and with with the Soto, the rosters, the
- 6:46Speaker 5: reporters all call them Trey.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Where would that come from?
- 6:49Speaker 5: That would probably come from the player or the parents
- 6:51Speaker 5: telling the head coach at the Soto his name is.
- 6:54Speaker 1: We call him Tray. That's what That's what it's all.
- 6:56Speaker 1: He's listed, Yeah, and that is what Sar calls him.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And that's what Claude math as his head coach of Pisodica,
- 7:01Speaker 1: they called him Tray. Now some of that may be
- 7:02Speaker 1: shortening it from football coaching perspective reasons. I get that,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but what raised the question in my mind also was
- 7:11Speaker 1: seeing that Network TV kept calling him Quin Travian, and
- 7:15Speaker 1: I thought, are the being told that? And come to
- 7:18Speaker 1: find out they, in fact they were, So I can
- 7:21Speaker 1: respect that. I understand all that, and I'll call him
- 7:25Speaker 1: what his folks want me to call him and what
- 7:27Speaker 1: he wants to be known by as well. The best example,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and I think I've told this story before, the best
- 7:33Speaker 1: example of this is when Texas women's basketball had a
- 7:37Speaker 1: player back around twenty ten, maybe twenty twelve. I'm trying
- 7:45Speaker 1: to remember Chastity Fazzelle, and she was good shooting guard.
- 7:49Speaker 1: She was from Tennessee. Her last name was spelled f Ussel,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and I was told it's Fazel, which is what I
- 7:58Speaker 1: kind of thought it was. Some have said Fusell, but
- 8:01Speaker 1: I was calling Fazelle and I asked her she went
- 8:04Speaker 1: by Chaz A lot of it went I said Chaz, Well,
- 8:07Speaker 1: she said Fiselle.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I said, okay, So I called her that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Then there was a game I had to miss, was
- 8:12Speaker 1: a tournament out Las Vegas, and our good friend John
- 8:14Speaker 1: and Danny was subbing for me out there, and he
- 8:16Speaker 1: kept calling her Fuzzle during the game Fuzzle Fuzzle, So
- 8:21Speaker 1: I called him after the game, I said, what's it
- 8:22Speaker 1: with the fuzzle thing?
- 8:23Speaker 5: Is?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Well, her dad came up to me, oh my goodness
- 8:28Speaker 1: and said, hey, our family name is Fuzzle.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Could you call her that? And uh? And he said okay.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So I thought, well, that's weird.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So when they got back to town, I went up
- 8:40Speaker 1: to her and I said, hey, Chaz, tell me one
- 8:42Speaker 1: more time how to pronounce your last name. She goes,
- 8:45Speaker 1: Fuzzlle Like, I said, what's Fizzelle? And I said, well,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I said, apparently you know it was fuzzle. She goes,
- 8:55Speaker 1: did my dad say to do that? And I was like, well,
- 8:57Speaker 1: a matter of fact, he did. She goes, I don't
- 8:59Speaker 1: care what he calls it. I'm calling it Fazelle. So
- 9:03Speaker 1: with even within the own family, there was disagreement over
- 9:06Speaker 1: how to pronounce her last name. So I went with
- 9:08Speaker 1: her wishes. Because she wasn't a miner anymore, she could
- 9:12Speaker 1: call herself what she wants, Fazzelle, So that's what That's
- 9:16Speaker 1: what it. But that was a little more detailed and
- 9:19Speaker 1: in depth in saying Countravian, shorteninging it to Trey or
- 9:24Speaker 1: Matthew to Matt.
- 9:25Speaker 2: That's just honoring a proper name. Wish there. So I
- 9:27Speaker 2: get that.
- 9:28Speaker 5: The bottom line seems to be some sort of disconnect
- 9:30Speaker 5: between what the kid wants to be called and what
- 9:33Speaker 5: his or her parents want them to be.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And us as broadcasters or the university's media RELATIONSHTAFF kind
- 9:38Speaker 1: of get caught in the middle of that.
- 9:39Speaker 5: And all that, and we get the Twitter, dms and
- 9:42Speaker 5: the emails. That's why I do both. That's why I
- 9:44Speaker 5: do both.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Figure out to please somebody, all right, But but I
- 9:47Speaker 1: don't think I'll be calling him Coobs Andrews.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I've called him Andrew all season long. I don't think
- 9:53Speaker 2: I'll call him Coobs.
- 9:55Speaker 1: This is this is an answer to something you'd probably
- 9:58Speaker 1: expect this, uh, Like, for example, when Jerry Jones was
- 10:01Speaker 1: on last but when we had the sound bite last hour,
- 10:04Speaker 1: when he was asked about do you feel comfortable with
- 10:09Speaker 1: the game planning and the play calling and things like that,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it would be pretty easy for someone who is being
- 10:17Speaker 1: asked that question to interpret it as you second guessing
- 10:22Speaker 1: them by the mere fact of Jason the question are
- 10:25Speaker 1: you happy? Are you happy with the game planning? Like
- 10:28Speaker 1: as opposed to not happening? So so it would be.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And that's why Jerry said, I understand their second guessing.
- 10:34Speaker 1: He said, I can hear you a second guess like
- 10:36Speaker 1: it like he's expecting it to be a second guess.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Then there's things like this.
- 10:41Speaker 1: A reporter asked Debo Sweeney if there were something extra
- 10:50Speaker 1: suite about the fact that they knocked Alabama out of
- 10:53Speaker 1: the playoffs. And I remember Dabo was a grad assistant
- 10:56Speaker 1: in Alabama. He's an Alabama grad, so you know, and
- 11:00Speaker 1: then it was going to come down to that at
- 11:02Speaker 1: SMU and another ACC team gets in.
- 11:05Speaker 2: So Dabo's asked, was there something extra sweet about knocking
- 11:09Speaker 2: Alabama out of the playoff? And that's the question was
- 11:11Speaker 2: being asked. I thought, I know where this answer is
- 11:13Speaker 2: going to go.
- 11:14Speaker 3: No. No, I mean that has nothing to do with it.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, it's you obviously know somebody's not
- 11:20Speaker 4: gonna make it or whatever. But I just think that
- 11:23Speaker 4: a team shouldn't be punished for playing in the championship
- 11:25Speaker 4: game that's already in.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I think it just sets a really bad precedent.
- 11:30Speaker 4: I don't think teams should be rewarded for not making
- 11:33Speaker 4: their championship game, but teams are punished for making their championship.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Teams that are you know, we're in, like SMU, they're eight,
- 11:40Speaker 4: they're in. But now all of a sudden, you go
- 11:42Speaker 4: get beat in your championship game and you get punished
- 11:45Speaker 4: for that, but you got the same record as teams
- 11:48Speaker 4: that didn't make their championship. I just think that's a
- 11:51Speaker 4: bad precedent. And you know, we can talk all about
- 11:55Speaker 4: what changes need to be made and this and that,
- 11:57Speaker 4: but you know, like I mean, honestly, the championship games.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I've heard all about the seeding and all that stuff.
- 12:03Speaker 4: I mean, like you you can't punish it. I mean,
- 12:06Speaker 4: if a team's gonna have to play an extra game,
- 12:09Speaker 4: thirteen games, then you have to give them a buy.
- 12:12Speaker 4: You can't ask the team that's playing in a championship
- 12:15Speaker 4: to to then turn around and play another game when
- 12:20Speaker 4: they've won their championship and got to buy. You know,
- 12:25Speaker 4: I mean to me that that doesn't make any sense.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I mean, otherwise, just do away with the championship games,
- 12:29Speaker 4: make the championship weekend the first round, and then you
- 12:33Speaker 4: just seed it however and you go from there. But
- 12:37Speaker 4: you know, somebody's always going to get left out.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I've been a part.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Like I said, it's our seventh playoff and you know
- 12:42Speaker 4: we've been to sixth final four. So I've been a
- 12:45Speaker 4: part of you know, the five, six, seven, eight team
- 12:48Speaker 4: and now we're talking about you know, twelve teams.
- 12:50Speaker 3: It's going to go to fourteen or sixteen or whatever.
- 12:54Speaker 4: But no, I just think, I don't I don't you know,
- 12:57Speaker 4: I have no idea who's going to get left out.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And I just think it was the right thing. I mean,
- 13:01Speaker 3: they deserved it.
- 13:02Speaker 4: I mean they had a great year and got being
- 13:06Speaker 4: on a fifty six yard field goal for three seconds
- 13:08Speaker 4: to go in a championship game that if they don't play,
- 13:11Speaker 4: they're in the playoff. So I just think, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 4: it's the right thing to do with the system that
- 13:19Speaker 4: we have in place currently.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, the key to those words there system that we
- 13:24Speaker 1: have in place currently, because and I agree with Dabosweeney
- 13:29Speaker 1: on all of this, that you can't take a team
- 13:31Speaker 1: like SMU that's in the field at number eight then
- 13:35Speaker 1: because they qualify to play the conference championship game and lose,
- 13:38Speaker 1: it dropped them completely out. That said, the other side
- 13:42Speaker 1: would say they shouldn't have been eight in the first place.
- 13:45Speaker 1: That the resume wasn't good enough to be number eight
- 13:48Speaker 1: in the first place, to where we're.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Even having this discussion.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That's the discussion that the Playoff selection Committee is going
- 13:55Speaker 1: to have. In the playoff committee itself, overall, those who
- 14:00Speaker 1: run it are going to have to figure out whatever
- 14:03Speaker 1: tweaks and adjustments, if any need to be made, all right.
- 14:06Speaker 1: He was asked about his impressions of the Longhorns. What
- 14:08Speaker 1: were his impressions about the Texas team?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Shoot?
- 14:11Speaker 4: Man, Yeah, I haven't even had a chance to put
- 14:12Speaker 4: my eyes on them other than just you know what
- 14:15Speaker 4: I've seen, you know, like everybody else on TV and stuff.
- 14:18Speaker 4: But I mean they were a final four team last year,
- 14:21Speaker 4: so and now they're back in the playoffs. So I
- 14:23Speaker 4: think I think Sark's done an amazing job. He's recruited.
- 14:25Speaker 3: I mean, they got a great roster, a very very
- 14:28Speaker 3: talented roster.
- 14:29Speaker 4: They've got elite quarterback, play, explosive players outside. I mean,
- 14:34Speaker 4: this is a this is a complete football team every
- 14:37Speaker 4: sense of the work. So they're good enough to win
- 14:40Speaker 4: the whole thing, and we'll have our hands full for sure,
- 14:43Speaker 4: but excited to.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Go compete, yeah, and.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Certainly feeling like they have a chance in this game
- 14:53Speaker 1: to compete and it's good to hear him talk about
- 14:57Speaker 1: him in that respect. Now, except for Debo, there's this
- 15:02Speaker 1: deal not only with Andrew mccouba returning back home, and
- 15:05Speaker 1: of course he played at Clemson out Texas. Kate Klubnick,
- 15:09Speaker 1: his quarterback, did not play Texas. He has only played
- 15:11Speaker 1: it Clemson. But he's from right here in the Austin
- 15:14Speaker 1: are as. We know the outstanding quarterback at Westlake led
- 15:16Speaker 1: him to a state championship.
- 15:17Speaker 2: In fact, led him to a state championship.
- 15:20Speaker 1: In January twenty twenty one there right in the middle
- 15:23Speaker 1: of the pandemic.
- 15:24Speaker 2: So he got pushed back.
- 15:25Speaker 1: He defeated South Lake Carrol, and he had all the
- 15:29Speaker 1: attention was focused on the fact that it was the
- 15:31Speaker 1: Dodge Bowl. You had Todd Dodge, they head coach at Westlake,
- 15:33Speaker 1: who was getting ready to step down, and you had
- 15:36Speaker 1: his son, Riley Dodge, who was the head coach at
- 15:39Speaker 1: South Lake Carrol where Todd had been and won state
- 15:43Speaker 1: titles with Riley as his quarterback.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Included during the time as well as Greg McElroy.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Chase Daniel had been quarterbacks the air for him at
- 15:51Speaker 1: South Lake Carrol, and of course he was wrapping up
- 15:54Speaker 1: his career at Westlake and they were taking on south
- 15:56Speaker 1: Lake Carrol and the quarterback at south Lake Errold that
- 16:00Speaker 1: year in that game.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Was Quinn Ewers.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Where's the quarterback Westlake was Kate klubnick Ers eventually matriculates
- 16:08Speaker 1: to Texas.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Clubnick winds up at Clemson. He goes to Clemson and
- 16:13Speaker 2: has he.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Had that conversation had he at the time of this
- 16:17Speaker 1: with Kate Clubnick about returning to his home statement, returning
- 16:19Speaker 1: to the Austin area and taking on Texas.
- 16:22Speaker 3: No, we hadn't discussed. We had no idea what was
- 16:24Speaker 3: going to happen.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Honestly, we hadn't really spent any time discussing, you know, scenarios.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I mean we we literally go to bed at.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Like six thirty in the morning and we I was
- 16:34Speaker 4: back over there at ten thirty and we had eleven
- 16:36Speaker 4: forty five team meeting, and so we did.
- 16:39Speaker 2: We did.
- 16:39Speaker 4: We didn't have much time to discuss any scenarios, just
- 16:42Speaker 4: like like everybody else will find out what we're doing.
- 16:44Speaker 4: But when Texas came up, I mean, it was just
- 16:47Speaker 4: kind of like, oh, this is this is uh, it's amazing,
- 16:51Speaker 4: you know, because there's a lot of storylines. He's obviously
- 16:54Speaker 4: from Austin, went to West Lake there and you know,
- 16:58Speaker 4: one of the best quarterbacks to go out of the
- 17:00Speaker 4: state of Texas.
- 17:02Speaker 3: But also him and Quinn, you know, went head to
- 17:05Speaker 3: head a lot in high school.
- 17:07Speaker 4: So it's just a really uh you know, that's it's
- 17:11Speaker 4: all about the game, but that's just kind of a
- 17:13Speaker 4: cool storyline for our quarterback, you know, you know, you
- 17:17Speaker 4: just never know how things are going to work out
- 17:19Speaker 4: in this crazy game of college football.
- 17:21Speaker 3: And for him to be going to.
- 17:23Speaker 4: His first playoff because we didn't make it in twenty
- 17:27Speaker 4: two we won the league, but we didn't make it,
- 17:29Speaker 4: and then last year we didn't make it. So his
- 17:30Speaker 4: first playoff in his first playoff game in Austin, Texas
- 17:34Speaker 4: where he grew up is uh, you know, you can't
- 17:37Speaker 4: make that up. So pretty cool, pretty cool for you know,
- 17:42Speaker 4: opportunity for him and his family, you know, to be
- 17:45Speaker 4: able to go compete against Texas there in Austin.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And of course he's not the only player on the
- 17:50Speaker 1: roster from the state of Texas.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Returning home.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Ian reied.
- 17:56Speaker 4: In fact, in fact, the game that I saw Kate play, uh,
- 18:01Speaker 4: he was playing against Ian Reid in that game at
- 18:04Speaker 4: vandergriff there so in uh, what is the stadium there
- 18:09Speaker 4: at Texas.
- 18:10Speaker 3: What's the name of.
- 18:10Speaker 5: It, Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, Royal.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Texas Memorial Statey.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Okay, so we were there at rural Rural Texas Memorial
- 18:19Speaker 4: Stadium and he was actually playing against Ian Reid. Obviously
- 18:21Speaker 4: Ian Reed's out for the year, but yeah, so pretty
- 18:25Speaker 4: cool opportunity for all those guys to be able to
- 18:27Speaker 4: go back home.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Noble Johnson, another guy, Corey and Gibson. Uh, we got
- 18:33Speaker 3: several Texas kids on our team that I know.
- 18:36Speaker 4: That'll be a great thing for them to have a
- 18:39Speaker 4: chance to, you know, go play in the state of Texas.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And what does he remember about recruiting the guys from
- 18:44Speaker 1: the Austin area, namely Kate Klubni and Ian Reid from
- 18:48Speaker 1: vandergriff Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 4: I mean, just you know Kate, I mean, we offered
- 18:51Speaker 4: two quarterbacks in that that class.
- 18:53Speaker 3: We offered Tas Simpson.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Well, we offered Tyss Simpson first, and you know, I
- 18:59Speaker 4: kind of got to know Kate a little after that,
- 19:02Speaker 4: and basically we told Kate, hey, listen, uh because ty
- 19:06Speaker 4: was getting ready to make a decision and we're like, hey,
- 19:09Speaker 4: if he if he doesn't come our way, listen, you're
- 19:11Speaker 4: you're you're getting an offer. And he was like, and
- 19:14Speaker 4: Kate had you know, a million offers, but he was like,
- 19:16Speaker 4: I want to come to Clemson.
- 19:17Speaker 3: And so you know, Tye went to Alabama.
- 19:20Speaker 4: And literally the moment ty Simpson announced that he was
- 19:22Speaker 4: going to Alabama, I called Kate.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I was standing in the locker room.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I said, well, all right, uh, here's your opportunity. You're
- 19:30Speaker 4: you're you've got the scholarship if you want it. And
- 19:33Speaker 4: he said, well, I'm coming to Clemson. And that was
- 19:35Speaker 4: really that simple. Uh that's what he wanted to do,
- 19:38Speaker 4: and you know, just worked out the way it was
- 19:40Speaker 4: supposed to. So that was that was that. And then
- 19:43Speaker 4: from ian standpoint, he was just a kid that we
- 19:45Speaker 4: got on and got him out here to to evaluate
- 19:49Speaker 4: him and got to know his family and I just
- 19:52Speaker 4: really really loved everything about him. His brother's here playing
- 19:55Speaker 4: soccer as well. Uh so just a just a great family.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Unfortunate that he got hurt because they could have helped
- 20:02Speaker 4: us this year for sure, but he still got, you know,
- 20:05Speaker 4: four years in front of him because he'll get this
- 20:07Speaker 4: year back from a medical standpoint, So I thank when
- 20:11Speaker 4: it's all said none, he's gonna be a good player.
- 20:12Speaker 2: For us, all right.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So there it is, the comments there from Dabo Sweeney's
- 20:17Speaker 1: talking about Ian Reid. There, of course, the former outstanding
- 20:21Speaker 1: lineman from Vandergriff who is out injured for the year.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Vandergrift is still alive in.
- 20:27Speaker 1: The playoffs, by the way, and they're playing in McLean
- 20:29Speaker 1: Stadium and Wake on Saturday night against Summer Creek High
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Humble as d in the greater Houston area. All right,
- 20:36Speaker 1: coming up, we'll have more on the NFL when we
- 20:41Speaker 1: continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
- 20:43Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
