- 2:44Speaker 3: It's Amanda Baron from WWKTV thirteen.
- 2:48Speaker 4: How are you happy?
- 2:49Speaker 5: Friday? Good morning, Good Friday. What a week it was spring,
- 2:51Speaker 5: it was summer, it was winter. Yesterday morning it was
- 2:55Speaker 5: snowing in my front yard and not snowing in my
- 2:57Speaker 5: backyard that I realized it just wasn't sticking.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I saw a meme the other day, and I don't
- 3:01Speaker 3: think i've posted it yet that said something to the
- 3:03Speaker 3: effect of winter's kind of like this, you know, I'm
- 3:07Speaker 3: done with you, but then runs out of the room
- 3:09Speaker 3: and comes back and says, but another thing.
- 3:12Speaker 4: That's me.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but next week, I mean, your buddy Brian Hughes
- 3:17Speaker 3: and Spencer they tell me, and Chris they tell me
- 3:18Speaker 3: it's gonna be like seventy eight, that near eighty, like Wednesday.
- 3:21Speaker 5: I think it was Wednesday. Yeah, I said seventy six
- 3:23Speaker 5: last night. So it's a crazy, crazy forecast. I think
- 3:27Speaker 5: the snow and cold is good for the ski resorts.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I have some friends that are up doing some adaptive
- 3:31Speaker 5: skiing with veterans this weekend, and they said, it is
- 3:36Speaker 5: the wind is blowing sideways up there, so it's awesome.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I'm glad, and I hope all those veterans have a
- 3:40Speaker 5: fantastic time. They do really cool adaptive skiing and outdoor
- 3:45Speaker 5: sports recreation at Snowshoe, so it's always fun to see
- 3:48Speaker 5: those different opportunities.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Indeed, it is Amanda Baron is with us today. I
- 3:51Speaker 3: will remind you that the Day, violand showing five eighty

- 4:04Speaker 3: Let's go to the phones. Let's tauch you our good friend,
- 4:06Speaker 3: Angie Gillenwater from the Kennal Charleston. You've made association with
- 4:09Speaker 3: this week's Adopt Me Please pet of the Week.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Angie, Good morning, Good morning, and.
- 4:15Speaker 3: You're also on with Amanda Baron.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Listen.
- 4:16Speaker 5: The name Crescent Roll is just kind of like a
- 4:19Speaker 5: dream come true. And he's precious, isn't he.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Uh he looks just like a cressl roll. That was
- 4:25Speaker 6: the first thing that came to them on Oddly.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Enough, they said the same thing about me.
- 4:28Speaker 5: But go ahead, thats very doe boy WHOA Yeah, she
- 4:33Speaker 5: went there.
- 4:34Speaker 4: It just was too easy. Andie, what kind of dog
- 4:36Speaker 4: is Crescent Roll?
- 4:38Speaker 7: Uh?
- 4:38Speaker 6: So we're not one hundred percent sure on breed. We're
- 4:40Speaker 6: just gonna say a large mixed breed because we don't
- 4:42Speaker 6: have a single paper stating what he is. But large
- 4:46Speaker 6: mixed breed, one hundred percent handsome, one hundred percent sweet.
- 4:51Speaker 6: He is such a dapper young little man. What he
- 4:53Speaker 6: does when you pass his kennell He'll sit there, laying
- 4:56Speaker 6: down with his paws crossed and just kind of head
- 4:58Speaker 6: tilted at you. So very hand Pepper.
- 5:02Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 5:02Speaker 5: I just when you told us that description last night
- 5:05Speaker 5: about how he sits there with his hands folded. He's
- 5:06Speaker 5: just a proper gentleman. I thought, what an awesome pet
- 5:10Speaker 5: for somebody to have. What kind of family do you
- 5:11Speaker 5: think he would be good with?
- 5:14Speaker 6: So he gets along well with other dogs. He goes
- 5:16Speaker 6: to playgroups at the shelter and has a great time
- 5:18Speaker 6: with the dogs in there. So other dogs kids are great.
- 5:22Speaker 6: We're not one hundred percent sure about cats, but he
- 5:24Speaker 6: does have a pretty low prey drive, pretty easy going,
- 5:28Speaker 6: slow moving, so likely just about any household these days,
- 5:32Speaker 6: but dogs, kids, all that would be great for him.
- 5:35Speaker 5: We're talking with Antie Gillenwater from the CANA Charleston Humane Association. Angie,
- 5:39Speaker 5: he's about two years old, you say, about forty eight pounds.
- 5:43Speaker 5: How is he doing healthwise?
- 5:45Speaker 6: So he when he first came in you can look
- 5:48Speaker 6: at his intake picture on our website. He was literally pink,
- 5:53Speaker 6: so all of our staff were like, oh my gosh,
- 5:55Speaker 6: my favorite color of dog, pink. But he was very
- 5:59Speaker 6: itchy miss here in a lot of spots. Our vet
- 6:01Speaker 6: determined it was demodex mite, which is very treatable and
- 6:06Speaker 6: not contagious to humans. And after a week of treatment,
- 6:09Speaker 6: which he's well passed a week of treatment, it's not
- 6:11Speaker 6: contagious to other dogs or pets either, So he's doing
- 6:15Speaker 6: much better, less itchy, and we're starting to see less
- 6:18Speaker 6: pink and more hair.
- 6:19Speaker 5: I know, he's like a really pretty like a tan
- 6:22Speaker 5: or tope or something.
- 6:23Speaker 3: West Virginia brown dog. That's what a lot of people
- 6:26Speaker 3: West Virginia brown dogs. What else is going on at
- 6:29Speaker 3: the shelter, Angie, so.
- 6:32Speaker 6: We're looking for right now. We're still seeing some staff
- 6:35Speaker 6: out with flu A. It's been very difficult for us,
- 6:40Speaker 6: so we're trying to get some volunteers in right now.
- 6:42Speaker 6: We don't have any adoption specials currently, however, Saint Patrick
- 6:46Speaker 6: Stay is right around the corner, so I would assume
- 6:48Speaker 6: you know you'll see one.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Coming and what are you in need of up there?
- 6:51Speaker 3: Because I know sometimes you run short on this or that,
- 6:54Speaker 3: and there's always certain supplies you can always use. But
- 6:57Speaker 3: if you had a wish list right now, what would
- 6:59Speaker 3: that be, Angie?
- 7:01Speaker 6: So the most needed things right now? Pur in a
- 7:03Speaker 6: puppy chow. We have over thirty puppies in the building
- 7:07Speaker 6: in seventeen that are sick with parvos, So pur in
- 7:10Speaker 6: a puppy chow is a desperate need right now. Paper towels, bleach,
- 7:15Speaker 6: just about any cleaning supply you can think of, from
- 7:17Speaker 6: you know, dishwashing liquid to gloves, all that stuff.
- 7:21Speaker 3: And I understand that we talked about a little bit
- 7:23Speaker 3: last week, and we'll get all the particulars and we'll
- 7:25Speaker 3: talk about a whole lot more as we get closer.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Tuxes and Tails is going to be coming up.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Yes, correct, Tuxes and Tails is coming up. It is
- 7:33Speaker 6: the same day as the Kentucky Derby and the theme
- 7:36Speaker 6: is going to be down in Derby as well this year,
- 7:39Speaker 6: So you know, get out your pastels, your florals and
- 7:41Speaker 6: your giant hats for that event.
- 7:43Speaker 5: There is nothing more fun than picking out a fascinating
- 7:47Speaker 5: fascinator or big old hat to wear, isn't it.
- 7:51Speaker 4: But don't you have fun doing that?
- 7:53Speaker 6: Oh? Yeah? It's the one time of year that I
- 7:55Speaker 6: have a perfect excuse to wear it too, without without
- 7:58Speaker 6: any judgment.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Trying to normalize that, I think, because no, I agree,
- 8:03Speaker 5: why not? And I also think it's such a fun fundraiser.
- 8:06Speaker 5: But also with that derby connection, it's just enough of
- 8:10Speaker 5: a sporting event for some people that, like you're it's
- 8:13Speaker 5: just enough for the attention span, don't you think?
- 8:15Speaker 6: Correct? Correct, There's lots of stuff to do with tuxes
- 8:18Speaker 6: and tails, whether you're here for the derby or you're
- 8:20Speaker 6: here to love over all of our puppies that we
- 8:22Speaker 6: bring to the event. There's a little bit of something
- 8:24Speaker 6: for everyone involved.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Absolutely bring out, bring out the horse lovers, and bring
- 8:28Speaker 5: out the animal lovers in general.
- 8:29Speaker 4: And you guys just do awesome work and we're appreciative
- 8:32Speaker 4: of that.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And how are the numbers? How are the numbers looking
- 8:35Speaker 3: right now?
- 8:37Speaker 6: So with Areca intake yesterday, if you didn't see, we
- 8:40Speaker 6: took in close to non atten pugs and yesterday when
- 8:45Speaker 6: I looked at the beginning of the day, it was
- 8:48Speaker 6: about three hundred and nine animals, majority of those being
- 8:51Speaker 6: puppies and kennel dogs. As always, we're super thankful that
- 8:55Speaker 6: cats in our care get adopted very quickly and don't
- 8:57Speaker 6: have to stay very long.
- 8:58Speaker 4: It's the shelter that's wonderful.
- 9:00Speaker 5: It's so good that people are opening their homes and hearts,
- 9:02Speaker 5: and you know, I think everybody has a story about
- 9:05Speaker 5: like when they found an animal, and you always like, well,
- 9:07Speaker 5: who do I call?
- 9:08Speaker 8: Well?
- 9:08Speaker 5: A lot of times it's incoming upon all of us,
- 9:10Speaker 5: you know, to take those animals in because you guys
- 9:12Speaker 5: have such a load.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Correct, correct, And we are super thankful for the people
- 9:17Speaker 6: that do that, or can at least hold them until
- 9:19Speaker 6: we create spaith. We have a lot of people that
- 9:22Speaker 6: are willing to do that too, until we can find
- 9:24Speaker 6: some room. They're going to keep them for us, which
- 9:26Speaker 6: is we cannot be more grateful.
- 9:28Speaker 3: All right, Angie, I know you're busy. We'll let you
- 9:30Speaker 3: get back to work. We'll talk again next week. Thanks
- 9:32Speaker 3: a lot, Thank you guys.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Have a good one.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Hope everyone feels better soon.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah, please, Angie Gillan wanted from the Canal Charleston Humaine
- 9:41Speaker 3: Association with Crescent Role Amanda. This week's Adopt Me Please
- 9:45Speaker 3: Pet of the Week. Is that a great looking dog or.
- 9:47Speaker 4: What beautiful dog? It's a beautiful dog and a cute
- 9:50Speaker 4: name too.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Crescent Roll two years old, almost two years old,
- 9:54Speaker 3: forty eight pounds, great with kids and other dogs. His
- 9:58Speaker 3: adoption is sponsored, need that he is absolutely free. She
- 10:02Speaker 3: talked about that skin condition. He did have a little
- 10:04Speaker 3: bit of a skin condition. I'm not going to try
- 10:06Speaker 3: to pronounce it, but he had a bit of a
- 10:07Speaker 3: skin condition. But they treated him as sitting. They said
- 10:10Speaker 3: he was pink when he came in. They were able
- 10:12Speaker 3: to treat it. He's still being treated. The skin condition
- 10:15Speaker 3: is not contagious to humans or to other dogs, and
- 10:19Speaker 3: which is very important because he loves other dogs apparently.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Yes, and he has a very sweet face, and he
- 10:25Speaker 5: sits in his kennel with his paws crossed waiting for
- 10:28Speaker 5: someone to come and love on him.
- 10:30Speaker 4: For sure. Hey, I have an update for you on something, Okay,
- 10:32Speaker 4: can I tell you about it real fu?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah, we can go ahead and let Angie go. I'm
- 10:36Speaker 3: hearing dogs barking in the background, so just just say
- 10:40Speaker 3: and you were done with you You can go now,
- 10:42Speaker 3: thank you. We're still there. I'm sorry, all right, thank.
- 10:47Speaker 4: You, have a great day.
- 10:48Speaker 3: All right.
- 10:49Speaker 4: So when I was on the show, a couple of
- 10:50Speaker 4: weeks ago and you were off.
- 10:52Speaker 5: We did a story about the Appalachian Outlaw trails that
- 10:55Speaker 5: are coming to eastern Connaught County, hundreds of miles of
- 10:59Speaker 5: trails that will be there for off roading adventure. Last night,
- 11:01Speaker 5: Knock Couny Commission gave them one hundred and fifty thousand
- 11:03Speaker 5: dollars to continue that adventure.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Okay, so we'll keep talking. We'll keep talking about that one.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I think we still got Angie on the line, producer,
- 11:09Speaker 3: could we there we go? Okay, Angie's back here washing
- 11:13Speaker 3: dishes and doing everything that she's doing back there in
- 11:15Speaker 3: the background. But that is great news for the economy here.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And actually I have on the show the next Tuesday,
- 11:21Speaker 3: I think it is. I've got Kennawk County Commission, President
- 11:24Speaker 3: of Ben Selango on the show, and I'm sure he'll
- 11:26Speaker 3: want to talk about that.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Talk more about that.
- 11:27Speaker 5: They also did some work when it comes to flood mitigation,
- 11:30Speaker 5: and they're going to get people to clean out their callverts.
- 11:33Speaker 5: So that's something that we all need to think about
- 11:34Speaker 5: because it can help mitigate some of those flooding problems.
- 11:36Speaker 5: It's not going to alleviate the flooding problem, but this
- 11:38Speaker 5: will be a citation system where they can come and say, hey,
- 11:42Speaker 5: you need to get on you need to get on that,
- 11:44Speaker 5: you need to clean that debris out of your carvert.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And he said.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Last night at Commission meeting, Commission President Selango, that even
- 11:49Speaker 5: he was guilty of that.
- 11:50Speaker 4: So he's glad to well.
- 11:52Speaker 3: And that's so much of what we see in West Virginia.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I mean, obviously this what happened of the last couple,
- 11:59Speaker 3: you know, on the Valentine's weekend down in places like
- 12:01Speaker 3: Mingo County and McDowell County's that's what you call an
- 12:04Speaker 3: act of God. I mean, when you have that much rain.
- 12:06Speaker 3: But however, a lot of these problems are furthered because
- 12:10Speaker 3: of trash and because of things and so much like
- 12:14Speaker 3: in the community that I am from, they talk about
- 12:17Speaker 3: down in Logan County, it's not river flooding. I mean,
- 12:20Speaker 3: the rd Bailey Dam pretty much took care of that,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you know, the nineteen seventies. It's not that it's people
- 12:25Speaker 3: putting their crap, you know, in the in the river
- 12:29Speaker 3: and in the drains and so on.
- 12:31Speaker 5: When you think about the leaves that fall and the
- 12:32Speaker 5: tree branches that we take down or things like that,
- 12:35Speaker 5: that ends up in the creeks and stream So this
- 12:37Speaker 5: is a program that will allow them to go through
- 12:39Speaker 5: and you know, give people heads up and the idea
- 12:42Speaker 5: here is to be proactive and not reactive because oftentimes
- 12:44Speaker 5: when that water goes down, we stop thinking about the flooding.
- 12:47Speaker 4: So a couple of updates though.
- 12:49Speaker 5: But the gentlemen, we're here from mapple Aachan outlaw Trails
- 12:51Speaker 5: last week, so they're getting ready for a big event
- 12:54Speaker 5: this weekend and Point Pleasant Mothman's Revenge.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 12:57Speaker 5: I know it's going to go from Point Pleasant to
- 12:59Speaker 5: Senecara all so it's a big, big weekend for them
- 13:02Speaker 5: for sure.

- 13:21Speaker 3: take cats out too?
- 13:23Speaker 8: Uh?
- 13:23Speaker 3: That's and I think what they're text is referring to
- 13:25Speaker 3: is sometimes they'll go out on location. They'll team up
- 13:27Speaker 3: with the uh some of the pet stores in the area.
- 13:29Speaker 3: They go to automobile dealership from time to time. I
- 13:32Speaker 3: have seen some cats taken out there, but you know,
- 13:35Speaker 3: I'm a cat owner. Cats don't travel as well take
- 13:39Speaker 3: a car. No, no, my mine basically, you know, have
- 13:41Speaker 3: a as my grandmother would say, they have a conniption fit.
- 13:45Speaker 3: And I have no idea what a conniption fit is,
- 13:47Speaker 3: but that's what my grandmother would say, you know, because
- 13:49Speaker 3: they know my Our cats never leave the house, so
- 13:52Speaker 3: they know they're in the cage. They are going to

- 16:13Speaker 3: We're gonna talk weddings coming up a little bit later
- 16:16Speaker 3: on wedding expo at the Roughner coming up tomorrow.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Speaking of weddings, there's somebody in our presence right now
- 16:21Speaker 5: who recently got married while the Dirty Birds were playing,
- 16:24Speaker 5: like in the championships.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Joe Garin is here. Thanks for being here, really, thanks
- 16:28Speaker 4: for having me. It's nice to see you.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Your wedding pictures are beautiful, by the way, Thank you.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I was so wild I called her to do an
- 16:32Speaker 5: interview about the Dirty Birds winning. You guys were having
- 16:35Speaker 5: this killer season, and you're like, well, I'm actually getting
- 16:38Speaker 5: married tonight.
- 16:39Speaker 8: No one has ever said that to me before. Yep,
- 16:42Speaker 8: I was in I was literally in my wedding dress.
- 16:45Speaker 8: I think everything was. We were getting ready to leave
- 16:46Speaker 8: and I got a text saying, hey, can you do
- 16:48Speaker 8: an interview? Normally yes, but I'm about to go get married.
- 16:52Speaker 4: I couldn't you know.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I've had somebody answer a text for me or pick
- 16:56Speaker 5: up the phone, like while their wife was giving birth.
- 16:58Speaker 5: When I was calling about a story which I was
- 16:59Speaker 5: very pre you should tip of that one. So I
- 17:01Speaker 5: have a birth and a wedding now and I'm so honored.
- 17:04Speaker 5: We're honored to have you here today. Dirty Birds had
- 17:06Speaker 5: such an amazing season. Let's keep riding that wave. You
- 17:10Speaker 5: guys are kicking off the season.
- 17:11Speaker 8: Yes, we're so excited to keep it going from last year.
- 17:14Speaker 8: You know, Southern Division champions of twenty twenty four and
- 17:18Speaker 8: our single game tickets go on sale tomorrow. You can
- 17:21Speaker 8: buy online or you can come to the ballpark starting
- 17:23Speaker 8: at twelve o'clock. We are going to have a free
- 17:26Speaker 8: event just to kind of kick off the season. There's
- 17:28Speaker 8: free inflatables on the field as well. You can get
- 17:31Speaker 8: forty percent off merchandise. We're going to have some concessions open.
- 17:35Speaker 8: Dusty will be there and my husband, who will be
- 17:38Speaker 8: playing for the Dirty Birds again this year, will be
- 17:39Speaker 8: there for some autographs.
- 17:41Speaker 5: You should have mentioned that your husband. We have to
- 17:43Speaker 5: remember he's a part of this equation as well.
- 17:45Speaker 4: That's exciting. You guys have to be so excited for
- 17:47Speaker 4: this season, coming off such a great year last year.
- 17:49Speaker 8: Definitely, and in PJ. Phillips's back, he was our manager
- 17:51Speaker 8: last year. He's coming back and you know he's building
- 17:54Speaker 8: that team right now. We're we're excited. We've announced a
- 17:56Speaker 8: few players already and hopefully more to come soon.
- 17:59Speaker 5: The ballpark is such an amazing place to go, even
- 18:01Speaker 5: if you're not totally into baseball, just to be in
- 18:04Speaker 5: the summertime, in the springtime, a chance to get outside,
- 18:07Speaker 5: see people that you haven't seen in a while. If
- 18:09Speaker 5: somebody's never been, why would you encourage them to come
- 18:11Speaker 5: to a game.
- 18:12Speaker 8: It's not just about baseball. It's really about community. And
- 18:15Speaker 8: that's something that our owner, Andy Shay has really tried
- 18:17Speaker 8: to emphasize since he's moved here to Charleston, where it's
- 18:21Speaker 8: not just a baseball game. You can come here with
- 18:23Speaker 8: your family, with your friends, with your co workers and
- 18:26Speaker 8: just enjoy the company of each other.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Absolutely. Okay, so this weekend is not just for like
- 18:31Speaker 5: a baseball enthusiast. Also, there's a great reason to bring
- 18:35Speaker 5: the kids. Yep, those free inflatables. Like I said, it's
- 18:38Speaker 5: free jury. You can walk into the ballpark for free,
- 18:41Speaker 5: go on those inflatables for free.
- 18:42Speaker 8: Even if you don't want to come to a baseball game.
- 18:45Speaker 8: You again, having kids is crazy. You don't know your
- 18:48Speaker 8: schedule sometimes in May or June when it's March, right,
- 18:50Speaker 8: So if you don't know what games you can go
- 18:52Speaker 8: to yet, Just come and see what we have new
- 18:54Speaker 8: at the stadium, not just inflatables. Also it's free mini
- 18:56Speaker 8: golf as well.
- 18:57Speaker 5: I was just reading about that. That's really fun. What
- 18:59Speaker 5: can you tell about the upcoming season? What can people
- 19:02Speaker 5: look forward to or any new food items on the menu.
- 19:05Speaker 4: What's the deal?
- 19:06Speaker 8: So our promo schedule was announced earlier this week. You
- 19:09Speaker 8: can head over to Dirtybirds baseball dot com to see everything.
- 19:12Speaker 8: Every Friday we will have a giveaway again. Every Saturday
- 19:15Speaker 8: is going to be fireworks, so you can still look
- 19:16Speaker 8: forward to that. One of my favorite giveaways is going
- 19:19Speaker 8: to be on June twenty seventh. We're actually celebrating West Virginia.
- 19:22Speaker 8: It's a week after West Virginia's birthday, but we're making
- 19:24Speaker 8: it a celebration that day and we're going to have
- 19:27Speaker 8: a blanket that is West Virginia themed.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Oh, I can't wait to see that.
- 19:30Speaker 5: And you can never have enough blankets, one percent can
- 19:32Speaker 5: never have enough blanket, And a blanket at the ballpark
- 19:34Speaker 5: is always a good thing on the nights that it
- 19:36Speaker 5: gets chilly.
- 19:36Speaker 4: But I can imagine a gin. We'll be okay, you
- 19:38Speaker 4: will so.
- 19:40Speaker 3: This this thing tomorrow. Have you ever done this? I'd
- 19:42Speaker 3: like to have a kickoff celebration like this when you
- 19:45Speaker 3: have all these things that are free, and as this
- 19:47Speaker 3: ever been done before.
- 19:48Speaker 8: I don't think we have a Gomart ballpark this year. Again,
- 19:51Speaker 8: this is only my second year, but off what I've heard,
- 19:53Speaker 8: I believe this is I don't remember. I think this
- 19:55Speaker 8: is the first time. Again. Andy shea our owner and CEO.
- 19:57Speaker 8: He's all about the community and just inviting people to
- 20:00Speaker 8: the ballpark.
- 20:01Speaker 4: It's free.
- 20:01Speaker 8: Inflatables are free, mini golf is free. You can get
- 20:04Speaker 8: some discounted food and discount and march as well.
- 20:06Speaker 3: And it's a great opportunity. As Amanda said, and again
- 20:09Speaker 3: we're talking with Joe Garren from the Dirty Birds, it's
- 20:11Speaker 3: a great opportunity for those maybe who haven't been to
- 20:14Speaker 3: the ballpark in the pass just to get out and
- 20:15Speaker 3: walk around, because it truly is a great facility. I mean,
- 20:20Speaker 3: whether you're a baseball and you've been around baseball in
- 20:23Speaker 3: your entire life, Jill, you know that baseball is different
- 20:26Speaker 3: than basketball or football or hockey and then the other sports.
- 20:29Speaker 3: A lot of people go to baseball games that another
- 20:32Speaker 3: players don't like to hear this, but sometimes really aren't
- 20:34Speaker 3: as bought into it because of the atmosphere that goes
- 20:37Speaker 3: around it with the promotions and things of that nature.
- 20:40Speaker 8: Especially at minor league baseball. Let's say you've been to
- 20:42Speaker 8: a Pirates game. This is nothing like a Pirates game
- 20:45Speaker 8: where we're focusing on these big name players. We're focusing
- 20:48Speaker 8: on you, the fans. There's going to be discounts, there's
- 20:50Speaker 8: going to be fun games that your kids can be
- 20:52Speaker 8: a part of. There's going to be interactive things on
- 20:55Speaker 8: the video board, interactive things throughout the concourse. It's really
- 20:58Speaker 8: about you as a fan, not so much much the
- 21:00Speaker 8: baseball team.
- 21:01Speaker 5: And just it's a great excuse just to sit outside, Yeah,
- 21:04Speaker 5: it really is and watch some enthusiastic people who are
- 21:08Speaker 5: in the you know, exciting time in their baseball career.
- 21:12Speaker 5: I think that's fun too, because I love to watch
- 21:15Speaker 5: people come up through.
- 21:15Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a lot of fun. So for example, my husband,
- 21:18Speaker 8: he's he's twenty four, he's still trying to make it
- 21:21Speaker 8: to a major league team, so he's early in his career.
- 21:23Speaker 8: And then we have other guys like last year Kiva Sampson,
- 21:26Speaker 8: who played in the major leagues, a few years ago
- 21:28Speaker 8: and he's just still playing professional baseball. He'll probably go
- 21:30Speaker 8: playing Mexico or maybe in Asia at some point too,
- 21:33Speaker 8: Very very different areas of their career, but you get
- 21:36Speaker 8: to see both of these people playing at the same time.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Just can't get it out of their systems. Sometimes nothing
- 21:40Speaker 3: wrong with that. And one of the things I like,
- 21:43Speaker 3: again Jill, about minor league baseball kind of playing off
- 21:46Speaker 3: what Amanda said there is the enthusiasm with the players
- 21:48Speaker 3: is so much because I mean, like I am a
- 21:50Speaker 3: huge baseball fan. I love pro sports, but sometimes in
- 21:53Speaker 3: all sports we get this, Yeah, they're just kind of
- 21:55Speaker 3: mailing it in at this point. You know, the guy's
- 21:57Speaker 3: got the contry, he's got the you know, eighty million
- 21:59Speaker 3: dollar a year contract. He may not try to run
- 22:02Speaker 3: this one out, you know, he may. But these folks
- 22:04Speaker 3: that are playing minor league baseball and on this level,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I mean, as you said, it's the up and coming
- 22:09Speaker 3: guys trying to make the team. Sometimes it's it's the
- 22:11Speaker 3: guys just kind of stick around a little bit. They
- 22:14Speaker 3: got a lot more to play for.
- 22:17Speaker 8: In many many cases, definitely, and I think they're all athletes,
- 22:21Speaker 8: they're competitive, they want to win, They do not care
- 22:24Speaker 8: if it's their final game ever or their first game ever.
- 22:26Speaker 8: They want to win so badly. There's so much emotion
- 22:30Speaker 8: for these guys on the field, and I'm excited to
- 22:33Speaker 8: see we have our fan favorite from Edison Surreyel. He's
- 22:36Speaker 8: been here the last two years. He has signed a
- 22:38Speaker 8: contract he's going to be back to so I'm excited
- 22:40Speaker 8: to get things going.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Do you see that the younger players and then the
- 22:43Speaker 5: more the veteran players. Is it fun to see those
- 22:46Speaker 5: relationships and see who they gravitate towards to maybe find
- 22:50Speaker 5: that mentorship.
- 22:51Speaker 8: Definitely, I think you see a lot of it depends
- 22:53Speaker 8: on their background. Whether we have Latin American players, they
- 22:56Speaker 8: tend to gravitate towards each other, but as they're learning
- 22:58Speaker 8: the English language, you can see them start to go
- 23:00Speaker 8: to the veterans so they can learn from them as well.
- 23:02Speaker 4: And you could even watch too.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I mean just by watching, you know, you look can
- 23:05Speaker 5: pick up so much from somebody who you admire in
- 23:08Speaker 5: a particular field. So we love listening to you and
- 23:11Speaker 5: you're so helpful. One of the only ladies to do this, Yes, in.
- 23:16Speaker 8: The Atlantic League. I'm the only female I think in
- 23:19Speaker 8: all of oh gosh, and all of minor league baseball.
- 23:21Speaker 8: There's maybe five of us now, but it ranges every year, Yes,
- 23:25Speaker 8: and it's it's great to hear a different perspective.
- 23:27Speaker 4: And we're just really excited for the season to get underway.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Especially with the winner that we've had. Everybody to the bar.
- 23:34Speaker 8: I'm in dire need of desperate need of sunshine.
- 23:37Speaker 3: We need a hot dog, we needed beers of peanutsjacks,
- 23:40Speaker 3: and I don't care if we never go back and
- 23:42Speaker 3: a seventh inning stretch. Yes, indeed, Joe Garreant from the
- 23:44Speaker 3: Dirty Birds, I appreciate you being here. I know in
- 23:47Speaker 3: addition to you this being your job, you're also a
- 23:50Speaker 3: huge baseball fan. How is you're a Red.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Red Sox fan?
- 23:54Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 23:55Speaker 3: All right, So how the Red Sox is going to
- 23:56Speaker 3: do this season?
- 23:57Speaker 8: I saw MLB graded their off season as an a
- 23:59Speaker 8: min Yes, I think, so we'll see how that that is.
- 24:02Speaker 8: I know I have a friend who works in their
- 24:04Speaker 8: Double A team and their minor league system, and they
- 24:07Speaker 8: have some great prospects coming in, so I'm excited to see.
- 24:09Speaker 8: Plus Alex Bregman is with the Red Sox, so that's
- 24:11Speaker 8: got to be fun.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Well and the Reds may very well have the league
- 24:15Speaker 3: MVP this year. I'm calling it Ellie Da La Cruise,
- 24:17Speaker 3: and may still finish in last place. So I'm hoping
- 24:21Speaker 3: that doesn't happen.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I'm a manager, I should say, and Terry.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Frank count I'm very happy.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I'm very happy about That's a Guardians fan.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to say, I was going to
- 24:30Speaker 3: give you your objection fore too. Talk about the Cleveland
- 24:33Speaker 3: thing this season. You're excited too, right, always excited Hope Springs,
- 24:37Speaker 3: Hope Springs eternal in Cleveland, Joe Garrett, I appreciate you
- 24:41Speaker 3: being here. Let's kind of recap again. What's going on
- 24:42Speaker 3: tomorrow at the ballpark?
- 24:44Speaker 8: YEP, Tomorrow twelve o'clock at gates open. You can come
- 24:46Speaker 8: by single game tickets in person or online. But the
- 24:49Speaker 8: free event is from twelve to six. We will have giveaways,

- 25:01Speaker 3: you just want to bring the kids out and you
- 25:02Speaker 3: want to walk around the ballpark and you want to
- 25:04Speaker 3: get on the inflatables. All that's absolutely free charge. Why

- 28:51Speaker 5: Let's talk about weddings, oh, lamps, I know you love
- 28:54Speaker 5: to talk about weddings.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Happily married, I got my I got my wedding. Taking
- 28:59Speaker 3: care of third math days Mat thirty three years ago.
- 29:03Speaker 8: She is a saint.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Three Yes, she absolutely is a saint.
- 29:06Speaker 5: But this is a really cool opportunity to kind of
- 29:08Speaker 5: explore Charleston, explore some opportunities and.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Hear from some really cool ladies.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Who's uh, who've teamed up together to put a historic
- 29:19Speaker 5: home back on the market. Oh, good morning, waiting and
- 29:23Speaker 5: you are we are Maria Beltry.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Did you have to look at each other to see
- 29:27Speaker 3: who you are?
- 29:28Speaker 4: Well, took you up to see who's going to talk?
- 29:30Speaker 3: Right, gotcha?
- 29:31Speaker 5: These girls are professionals. You guys, tell us about the Roughner.
- 29:34Speaker 5: The Roughner is a historic home in Charleston. You guys
- 29:38Speaker 5: walked in and you're like, we have to have it.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
- 29:40Speaker 9: Yeah, basically we're crazy, but we we bought the Roughner
- 29:46Speaker 9: what is now known as the Roughner. It's really a
- 29:49Speaker 9: gem of a historic home on the east end of
- 29:51Speaker 9: Charleston fifteen hundred cano Bulevard East, and have turned it
- 29:55Speaker 9: into something that we felt like Charleston really just needed
- 29:59Speaker 9: and wanted. So it is a historic venue, but it
- 30:02Speaker 9: also has bespoke lodging opportunities to we host a variety
- 30:07Speaker 9: of events.
- 30:09Speaker 4: I know you just had one for Valentine's Day? Right,
- 30:11Speaker 4: How did they get to Valentine's party? It was a blast.
- 30:13Speaker 5: It was a blast, a beautiful play. It's a beautiful location.
- 30:18Speaker 5: It's located on the Cannon Boulevard, as you just mentioned,
- 30:20Speaker 5: and the homes along Cannon Boulevard are absolutely stunning. You
- 30:24Speaker 5: guys have been able to go into this home and
- 30:26Speaker 5: make it something even more special. Talk about what people
- 30:30Speaker 5: can find if they decide to maybe have a wedding there,
- 30:32Speaker 5: or if they decide to, you know, stay there for
- 30:34Speaker 5: a getaway or have a retirement party or whatever they
- 30:36Speaker 5: want to do.
- 30:37Speaker 13: Yeah, I think you know. The Roughner is unique because
- 30:40Speaker 13: it has so many different possibilities. We can host your
- 30:43Speaker 13: wedding shower, We can host your wedding brunch, your wedding
- 30:46Speaker 13: party can stay there throughout the duration. So even if
- 30:50Speaker 13: you're not getting married directly at the Roughner, we would
- 30:52Speaker 13: love to host your family and your guests and your
- 30:55Speaker 13: bridal party.
- 30:57Speaker 4: In terms of just other.
- 30:58Speaker 13: Events, we can host retirement parties, baby showers, wedding showers,
- 31:03Speaker 13: birthday parties. We've already done it all, so we're excited
- 31:06Speaker 13: to host people there.
- 31:08Speaker 5: This weekend is a chance for people to see the
- 31:09Speaker 5: Roughner in a different way, maybe learn some things about
- 31:13Speaker 5: their wedding or what they might want to do.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Tell us about the wedding Expo this weekend. Yeah, we
- 31:16Speaker 4: have our.
- 31:17Speaker 9: Wedding Expo our showcases Sunday from one to four pm
- 31:21Speaker 9: where you can come in and really take a look
- 31:23Speaker 9: at what the Rofner has to offer. You can chat
- 31:25Speaker 9: with Nicky and I about event coordination services, things that
- 31:28Speaker 9: we can provide for you and how the space can
- 31:30Speaker 9: work best for you. But we also have an amazing
- 31:32Speaker 9: team of vendors that are joining us to you can
- 31:37Speaker 9: come and enter to win a free night's stay and
- 31:40Speaker 9: a lot of these vendors are also doing specials too.
- 31:44Speaker 13: Yeah, if we can, we'd like to make notice some
- 31:46Speaker 13: of the vendors because they're all very well known here
- 31:48Speaker 13: in the Charleston area.
- 31:49Speaker 4: So we do have DJ Courts DJEJ.
- 31:52Speaker 13: Mountain Saint Flower Farm ten ten Bridge, We have the
- 31:55Speaker 13: Oberports Photography, Lauren Love Photography two eighteen Bridal, Tony the Taylor,
- 32:00Speaker 13: and we have Letty and Reeven doing hare and makeups.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Oh how fun.
- 32:03Speaker 5: So it's a really awesome time to get someone on
- 32:05Speaker 5: one time with these vendors who can make your day
- 32:08Speaker 5: extra special. See this space.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Can you guys give us a little history about this home. Sure,
- 32:14Speaker 4: so your eyes just lit up.
- 32:16Speaker 9: Oh gosh, I know we'll wear history nerds, and how
- 32:18Speaker 9: can you not be with such a beautif.
- 32:22Speaker 4: I'll keep it brief. I'll keep it brief.
- 32:24Speaker 9: We're actually the fourth owners of the property. The home
- 32:27Speaker 9: was originally commissioned by Judge Walter Hall and oh no,
- 32:33Speaker 9: I'm sorry, Cyrus Hall and his wife.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Myrtle you want to say, and his wife Walter.
- 32:42Speaker 4: No, the architect was Walter Martin's.
- 32:45Speaker 9: So he's the same architect that designed the Women's Club,
- 32:47Speaker 9: the Governor's Mansion, and a couple other notable structures, not
- 32:50Speaker 9: just in Charleston, but in the state of West Virginia.
- 32:53Speaker 9: It's a Georgian Colonial style home. And after the the
- 33:00Speaker 9: Halls left the home, it was the Dean Lewis Law
- 33:04Speaker 9: firm for a while. A lot of folks know the property.
- 33:08Speaker 5: From being in it when the law firm was in it,
- 33:11Speaker 5: and then the Frame family owned it and now us,
- 33:13Speaker 5: So we're just the fourth owners of this really beautiful property.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I think we see those homes along the boulevard, You're like, gosh,
- 33:18Speaker 5: I'd really love to go in there and just see.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what it looks like.
- 33:21Speaker 9: And this is a great opportunity to do it on Sunday,
- 33:23Speaker 9: to come and get nosy and see all the things
- 33:26Speaker 9: that we can do for.
- 33:26Speaker 5: You between between one and four at the rough Dord.
- 33:29Speaker 5: It's fifteen hundred block of Cannon Boulevard. Yes, right on
- 33:32Speaker 5: the corner of Cannon Bulevard East. I should say I
- 33:36Speaker 5: know somebody who has some of the pieces that you
- 33:38Speaker 5: guys have acquired to put into the home, and I
- 33:42Speaker 5: think it's been really neat for people to see that
- 33:44Speaker 5: you guys have worked hard to make it historical in
- 33:49Speaker 5: more ways than just the actual structure.
- 33:52Speaker 9: We've had a lot of fun sourcing the furniture and art,
- 33:55Speaker 9: not just from other historic homes in Charleston, but at
- 33:59Speaker 9: other estate sales and vinedge shops because we wanted to
- 34:03Speaker 9: get a little funky with it but still pay homage
- 34:05Speaker 9: to the historic integrity of the house and of the region.
- 34:09Speaker 5: Yeah, what can people do if they stay there for
- 34:12Speaker 5: the night? What kinds of things there's I think there
- 34:13Speaker 5: was like a card room or something like that I
- 34:15Speaker 5: remember seeing. I know tell us a little bit about that.
- 34:18Speaker 13: We have a hidden room on the third floor which
- 34:20Speaker 13: is now a game room. So if you're having family
- 34:23Speaker 13: or a girls night or a guys night, it's a
- 34:25Speaker 13: fun place to hang out.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Absolutely, and it's just a cool place. You had the
- 34:30Speaker 5: Gallatines event. Are you looking forward to more?
- 34:33Speaker 9: Oh my gosh, yeah, we Nicky and I are really
- 34:36Speaker 9: excited to create events that people can come and enjoy themselves,
- 34:41Speaker 9: not just as renters, but as guests. Things like big
- 34:45Speaker 9: easter brunches, murder mystery dinners, all kinds of fun things.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I bet you guys.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Are you probably are every day like texting each other like,
- 34:53Speaker 5: oh there, here's another here's another idea, here's another idea.
- 34:56Speaker 3: And this is something that's very popular. It's I mean,
- 34:59Speaker 3: it's gotten very popular across the country. And I'm sure
- 35:01Speaker 3: that you have drawn ideas from other other folks that
- 35:04Speaker 3: are doing similar things. And one of the great things
- 35:06Speaker 3: about this is is you know here in Charleston, it's
- 35:09Speaker 3: it's the building that has that history. But these things
- 35:13Speaker 3: that that you're doing you don't normally see in a
- 35:15Speaker 3: town or city the size of Charles. Do you see
- 35:16Speaker 3: them into much larger cities and you're you're doing it
- 35:18Speaker 3: right here?
- 35:19Speaker 4: Oh thank you? That was That's why we're doing it Charleston.
- 35:23Speaker 13: We want to make it better.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Well, Nicky and Maria with the Roughner House, the expo
- 35:27Speaker 5: is this weekend. Is there any charge to come to that?
- 35:29Speaker 9: Free admission and you can also enter to win for
- 35:34Speaker 9: free Knight's Day at the Roughner when you come and

- 35:49Speaker 13: event page for the wedding expo that we're hosting. It

- 36:09Speaker 3: they might disappear. I'm just saying, it's it's Tony, it's parents,
- 36:14Speaker 3: you man, It's what he does, all right now, tonk.

- 40:42Speaker 3: tease a little bit about something on social media, saying
- 40:45Speaker 3: that there would be an announcement coming up today, but
- 40:48Speaker 3: it on the Twitter machine and also on the on
- 40:50Speaker 3: the spacebook, as my buddy Tommy would say. And so

- 41:09Speaker 3: hope that folks like what the announcement is.
- 41:11Speaker 4: It's kinds of exciting thing.
- 41:12Speaker 3: A lot of exciting things going on with in here.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Want to hear something else exciting?
- 41:15Speaker 3: What's that?
- 41:16Speaker 5: I want to talk about some news today Newer for
- 41:18Speaker 5: Gorge saw record attendance in twenty twenty four. That's pretty
- 41:22Speaker 5: cool when you think about all the people that are
- 41:23Speaker 5: coming through the region and we talk about this Upper
- 41:25Speaker 5: Canall Valley Gateway project that they're doing that they want
- 41:28Speaker 5: to create an atmosphere that's really welcoming as.
- 41:31Speaker 4: People head to the New River Gorge.
- 41:34Speaker 5: So it's you know, there were some things that came
- 41:37Speaker 5: out of COVID that were really tough, but the park
- 41:38Speaker 5: services that they saw spike in attendance during the pandemic.
- 41:41Speaker 5: That's when people got outside started to enjoy. So we're
- 41:44Speaker 5: learning more about that today.
- 41:47Speaker 3: That a text here says, day congratulations on your retirement.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I'm not retiring. Trust me, I'm going to die behind
- 41:54Speaker 3: this micro and I frequently die behind the microphone every
- 41:56Speaker 3: day anyway. No, I'm not retiring. I promise you that
- 42:00Speaker 3: I am going. I plan on being carried out of here.
- 42:02Speaker 3: That's uh. I have not. My retirement plan is to
- 42:05Speaker 3: is to die in the microphone with headphones on. I
- 42:08Speaker 3: told and little else. I told somebody the other day.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I told Lee upstairs that I was going to have
- 42:14Speaker 3: a on air light on my casket and uh and
- 42:17Speaker 3: when the service is over, click just do it that way.
- 42:21Speaker 14: It goes.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Next is the day. The day is seventh. Next next
- 42:27Speaker 3: Thursday will be my thirty seventh year of this. Thirty
- 42:32Speaker 3: seven years.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Probably doesn't feel that long, does it.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Thirty seven years of I started playing forty five records
- 42:38Speaker 3: on w l o G radio and Logan, which no
- 42:41Speaker 3: longer exists. So thirty thirty seven years a long time.
- 42:43Speaker 3: But now I have no I have zero plans to
- 42:45Speaker 3: ever retire.
- 42:46Speaker 4: And I think it's so cool. You've seen a lot
- 42:47Speaker 4: change too. Yes, you know why.
- 42:52Speaker 5: We all have day in a business that is up
- 42:56Speaker 5: is forever changing. You have been a constant, so that's fun.
- 43:00Speaker 3: It sounds like you're writing my retirement speech already. I
- 43:03Speaker 3: am not retiring.
- 43:04Speaker 4: You can hire me.
- 43:04Speaker 17: I am not.
- 43:06Speaker 3: I am not retiring at all. So the time change,
- 43:10Speaker 3: let me ask you your opinion. We do the whole
- 43:12Speaker 3: Spring four thing. And by the way, somebody would like
- 43:16Speaker 3: to text us with their thoughts on the time change.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I kind of like to keep it a little lighter
- 43:20Speaker 3: on Fridays if I can. You want to text us
- 43:23Speaker 3: or call us on what you think about the time change?
- 43:25Speaker 3: Bigicley pigli Wiggly Hotline three zero four three four five

- 43:32Speaker 3: zero zero eight. You're taught. Your take on the whole
- 43:35Speaker 3: time change thing.
- 43:36Speaker 5: I think it's great because we all need a little
- 43:38Speaker 5: more sunlight, We all need a little more time to
- 43:40Speaker 5: get outside and enjoy, and I think this provides that opportunity.
- 43:43Speaker 5: It also means that warmer weather is around the corner,
- 43:45Speaker 5: which I think is a good a good mental shift
- 43:47Speaker 5: for a lot of people. Now, if you're somebody who
- 43:49Speaker 5: has to go to bed early because you have to
- 43:52Speaker 5: wake up super early, this is not the time of
- 43:54Speaker 5: year for you.
- 43:55Speaker 14: That very to me.
- 43:57Speaker 17: For you know, I did morning radio for twenty years
- 44:00Speaker 17: in Logan, and then I did it for about a
- 44:02Speaker 17: year at at a at another station here in the market.
- 44:07Speaker 17: And I got up at three am usually every morning,
- 44:11Speaker 17: and so it didn't matter to me. And I was
- 44:14Speaker 17: talking to my wife about this last night. I said,
- 44:16Speaker 17: it didn't matter to me one way or the other
- 44:18Speaker 17: because I got up at three am and I was
- 44:22Speaker 17: usually asleep before it was dark. So you know, it didn't,
- 44:26Speaker 17: it just didn't.
- 44:26Speaker 3: It didn't. And even now, but I don't do morning
- 44:29Speaker 3: radio anymore. I'm still a morning person. I'm still up
- 44:31Speaker 3: by five, you know, every morning. Anyway, for people.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Who do that over night work, it can be really
- 44:36Speaker 4: I guess.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Because for me, I just don't care one way or
- 44:40Speaker 3: the other. And I was watching a big debate about
- 44:42Speaker 3: it on television this morning and people were going back
- 44:45Speaker 3: and forth. It's like, I just I just don't care,
- 44:47Speaker 3: you know. I just roll with it.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Man.
- 44:49Speaker 5: I enjoy the time change, like I enjoy the change
- 44:52Speaker 5: of seasons. I think it's been really cool. We've had
- 44:53Speaker 5: four seasons this year. We did not have that in
- 44:56Speaker 5: the year's past. So I have enjoyed the snow. I
- 44:59Speaker 5: am not the one doing the room, so that probably
- 45:01Speaker 5: is part of that. But I think when you are
- 45:04Speaker 5: when you can kind of just enjoy different, different seasons,
- 45:07Speaker 5: different phases, just just.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Makes life a little more interesting. It does, indeed it does.
- 45:11Speaker 3: The Dave Island Showing five any Live brought to you
- 45:13Speaker 3: in part by Snap Fedness. Snap offers a wide array

- 45:24Speaker 3: and Milton, Texas. Time to transition to your Johnny Carson
- 45:29Speaker 3: era and let Amanda be the guest host once a week.
- 45:33Speaker 3: She does great work filling in for you. I think
- 45:36Speaker 3: it's very interesting that we use the term filling in
- 45:39Speaker 3: for me when you talk about somebody who's won like Emmys,
- 45:42Speaker 3: and you've won all these Oh, you should have Heisman trophies.
- 45:47Speaker 4: You know, it's my Heisman trophy. I'm most proud of Tony.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Awards and things of that nature. That the idea of
- 45:53Speaker 3: you filling in for me, I just think that's that's
- 45:55Speaker 3: kind of funny because even though I've been doing this
- 45:58Speaker 3: a lot longer than you have your life more awarded
- 46:00Speaker 3: than what I am.
- 46:01Speaker 5: Well, you know, the awards are nice, but the work
- 46:03Speaker 5: is the fun part, and it's fun to get to
- 46:05Speaker 5: share people's stories and you know, kind of makes sense
- 46:08Speaker 5: of news in a crazy world.
- 46:09Speaker 4: That's you know, our job to boil it down, boil it.
- 46:12Speaker 5: Down to a couple of sentences that make people's lives better,
- 46:17Speaker 5: more informed, easier, safer, all those different things.
- 46:21Speaker 4: So it's neat. It's a it's an honor and a privilege,
- 46:24Speaker 4: no doubt about it, you.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Know, and something that has always interested me, and I
- 46:27Speaker 3: see these memes floating around social media from time to
- 46:30Speaker 3: time where people will say something to the effect of
- 46:32Speaker 3: why does the news and I say, television radio could
- 46:36Speaker 3: be the same, but because you are as Robriel would say,
- 46:38Speaker 3: you are, you know, radio with pictures? Why is it that?
- 46:43Speaker 3: And this is not me talking to this as other
- 46:45Speaker 3: people they'll say, when never there is a tragedy, it
- 46:47Speaker 3: did not necessarily in Charleston, but wherever. Why do they
- 46:50Speaker 3: always interview like the worst possible people and put them
- 46:53Speaker 3: on the air. That's a question. I know you have
- 46:55Speaker 3: gotten and you know you're going on TV, Graham, I'll
- 46:59Speaker 3: put the bra on, you know that kind of the thing.
- 47:01Speaker 9: Uh.
- 47:01Speaker 3: But but in my experience in things like that is
- 47:05Speaker 3: sometimes that's the people that want to talk.
- 47:07Speaker 5: I think that's awesome that there's anyone, you know, anybody
- 47:11Speaker 5: who will get on television and share their story with us.
- 47:13Speaker 5: To me is an amazing human being because it takes
- 47:18Speaker 5: a lot of confidence, a lot of courage, and to
- 47:21Speaker 5: just get on TV and share your opinion. Sometimes sharing
- 47:23Speaker 5: your opinion like that in a tough situation can be isolating,
- 47:29Speaker 5: and there are people who are willing to get on
- 47:31Speaker 5: television and say what they think, say how they feel.
- 47:35Speaker 5: And I'm always really really grateful for anyone who will
- 47:38Speaker 5: step up in that way, because we can't do our
- 47:41Speaker 5: job without people who will share their story. The people
- 47:45Speaker 5: who call the newsroom and say you should do a
- 47:46Speaker 5: story on this, great, will you talk about it with
- 47:48Speaker 5: us on camera?
- 47:49Speaker 4: Well, no, that's very difficult for us to be able
- 47:51Speaker 4: to do a story. And I got to be honest
- 47:53Speaker 4: with you.
- 47:53Speaker 5: People care when they hear from people who they can
- 47:57Speaker 5: relate to, who are like them, who are and so
- 47:59Speaker 5: we all need to, you know, just be grateful that
- 48:02Speaker 5: there are people who are willing to put themselves out
- 48:05Speaker 5: there in a way that is not always easy, and
- 48:08Speaker 5: so where I'm totally grateful for those opportunities.
- 48:10Speaker 3: I'm knock out some texts here, Texas, keep it lit
- 48:13Speaker 3: up at night, However, I still want one night a
- 48:15Speaker 3: year that I can sleep an hour longer, says a text.
- 48:18Speaker 4: I want that to no matter this season, Texas.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Dave Florida guy. This is a person who texts shown
- 48:23Speaker 3: a regular basis with West Virginia Connections who lives in Florida.
- 48:26Speaker 3: It's amazing all the whiners about daylight saving time. It's
- 48:29Speaker 3: gone on for one hundred years. I guess they get
- 48:31Speaker 3: mad because they can't get drunk at the bars by
- 48:34Speaker 3: losing an hour of drinking time. You just have to
- 48:36Speaker 3: start earlier. Six says, you mean Amanda isn't going to
- 48:42Speaker 3: be the new host of the show, No offense, Dave
- 48:44Speaker 3: love you, but it's Amanda Baron after all. No, I'm
- 48:46Speaker 3: not leaving. I'm not going anywhere.
- 48:48Speaker 5: Stay right where you are, Stay right where you are now.
- 48:52Speaker 5: I think the only thing we have to remember is
- 48:55Speaker 5: to turn the clock, go spring for it. We spring
- 48:57Speaker 5: forward this weekend. I always get confused. Do not that
- 49:00Speaker 5: you got to think about that? Spencer said yesterday on there,
- 49:02Speaker 5: he said, now you've got to spring your clocks for
- 49:04Speaker 5: it if you don't want to be late.
- 49:06Speaker 4: And I said, I'm not sure that that ever matters
- 49:08Speaker 4: for some people.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Tex says, why does a ballpark do these type of
- 49:12Speaker 3: activities when it's still cold, damp, rainy, and just dreary outside.
- 49:15Speaker 3: It's supposed to rain tomorrow and not get above fifty.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Kids will get sick. Well, the problem with that is
- 49:20Speaker 3: is that they have to schedule these things like six
- 49:21Speaker 3: months in advance, because they have to get the inflatables there.
- 49:25Speaker 3: And with when you are scheduling March or April, much
- 49:29Speaker 3: like November, you could get a variety of things. I
- 49:31Speaker 3: saw some of your guys footage of a major snowstorm
- 49:34Speaker 3: that happened on this date or maybe yesterday in twenty fifteen.
- 49:38Speaker 3: So you just never know. I understand what they're saying,
- 49:40Speaker 3: but you just never You just never know when you're scheduled.
- 49:42Speaker 4: No, you never know. And you got to get the
- 49:43Speaker 4: season started when the season's got to start.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Texas used common sense. Put daylight saving sim on
- 49:48Speaker 3: a ballot because the legislature can't do common sense. Tex says,
- 49:53Speaker 3: I'm older, so I could say this. Over the years,
- 49:55Speaker 3: we've had several local TV newspeople that have connected with
- 49:57Speaker 3: the community. Amanda is one of the.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Oh, thank you very much.
- 50:01Speaker 3: I'm just very kind. I think it's amazing that you're
- 50:03Speaker 3: texting that from across the table. I think that's I.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Do you have an ability to multi tench that's his
- 50:08Speaker 4: go to.
- 50:09Speaker 3: Don't let him do that. He turns that with me too,
- 50:11Speaker 3: do it every time.
- 50:11Speaker 16: T J.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Meadows is here at little preview of talk about have
- 50:13Speaker 3: you met Amanda Baron?
- 50:14Speaker 17: I haven't met Amanda Baron, and it's great to see
- 50:16Speaker 17: Amanda here in the studio.
- 50:18Speaker 3: It's you know, yeah, it's always great to see If
- 50:20Speaker 3: nobody ever says it's great to see Dave in.
- 50:22Speaker 5: The studio, let's back it up here. What's going on
- 50:23Speaker 5: at the Capitol today?
- 50:24Speaker 17: Well, before we do that, can we just set the
- 50:27Speaker 17: time so that it's dark in the morning and as
- 50:29Speaker 17: much late in the evening as possible and I'll be happy.
- 50:31Speaker 17: That's my two cents as a man with three children,
- 50:33Speaker 17: says the man with three children, exactly right. Anyway, Well
- 50:37Speaker 17: today on the show, so coming up on eleven o six,
- 50:39Speaker 17: we have Chris Steyer Walt, we'll get back to national
- 50:41Speaker 17: politics in Washington.
- 50:42Speaker 2: D C.
- 50:43Speaker 17: Hoppy Kerchival joins us at ten thirty. His latest commentary
- 50:47Speaker 17: up on that bill that basically would set guardrails about
- 50:51Speaker 17: what teachers have to tell to parents so you can't
- 50:54Speaker 17: have gender discussions with students and not disclose those to
- 50:58Speaker 17: the parents'.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Hoppy opines on that. We'll talk with him at ten thirty.
- 51:01Speaker 17: At ten twenty, we have these two characters, one named
- 51:03Speaker 17: Dave Allen, one named Demanda Baron, going to be on
- 51:06Speaker 17: my show today.
- 51:06Speaker 3: I'm not sure what's going on. I guess you all
- 51:08Speaker 3: will tell me at ten twenty.
- 51:09Speaker 17: Yeah, there's an announcement. We put it that way, okay,
- 51:12Speaker 17: kind of a big deal. And then we'll kick off
- 51:14Speaker 17: the show today with Brad mclahaney at ten six. He'll
- 51:17Speaker 17: bring us up to speed on what is happening at
- 51:18Speaker 17: the Capitol day recap yesterday and we'll go from there.
- 51:21Speaker 17: And no steam release at eleven thirty. That's always fine.
- 51:24Speaker 4: Steamer release is a great day.
- 51:25Speaker 5: One of those bills that they're talking about is about
- 51:27Speaker 5: arming teachers, and there was some testimony yesterday from one
- 51:30Speaker 5: of the lawmakers about how in some cases law enforcement
- 51:34Speaker 5: is actually you know, several minutes away. I think this
- 51:37Speaker 5: particular lawmaker said an hour can be up to an
- 51:40Speaker 5: hour for a response time. So that's one of the
- 51:42Speaker 5: bills that is moving through and I know there's a
- 51:45Speaker 5: similar law in Ohio. We've reported on that at WWK.
- 51:50Speaker 5: So it's an interesting debate.
- 51:52Speaker 4: To have in this day and time.
- 51:54Speaker 17: Yeah, I think the big thing will come down to
- 51:56Speaker 17: the guardrails on that bill, because you know, some people
- 51:59Speaker 17: have think I think that's a good idea. Potentially, I
- 52:03Speaker 17: don't know if it's a good idea for everybody. So
- 52:05Speaker 17: what's a great debate that they're having and we need
- 52:07Speaker 17: to iron that out, and.
- 52:08Speaker 3: That's coming up at ten oh six. Tex said, I
- 52:12Speaker 3: love this one. Amanda, who's the girl on the show
- 52:14Speaker 3: this morning. I love that. Let me see. We'll close
- 52:18Speaker 3: with this text says, enjoy hearing Amanda on the show.
- 52:22Speaker 3: It's a good fit.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Thank you all for listening.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I'm not going anywhere. I'm just letting you know. I'm
- 52:27Speaker 3: not going anywhere. I heard you were retiring. I'm not retiring. Okay,
- 52:31Speaker 3: I'm not retiring. Even though I'm the oldest person in
- 52:33Speaker 3: this room, I'm not retiring. I was trying to get
- 52:35Speaker 3: a scoop. Not going anywhere. You'll get your scoop coming
- 52:38Speaker 3: up about ten fifteen or ten twenty or so on
- 52:40Speaker 3: Talk Line House. Coming up on Monday show, Caitlin George
- 52:42Speaker 3: and Kathy Thomas from the Western Chamber of Commerce, Fread Persinger,
- 52:45Speaker 3: and Tony Hodge. Download the WVRC medi Appidemetric News television
- 52:49Speaker 3: app for Amanda Baron. I will see you. I'll seeing
- 52:51Speaker 3: about thirty minutes, so forty five till then. Have fun.
- 52:54Speaker 3: I love somebody. I can't do math.
- 53:01Speaker 2: You finding, You know when you see it, just a
- 53:03Speaker 2: M maybe six point five. That's in Charleston,
