- Lucas: Ciao and welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! We're so glad you're here for Episode 16. Lucas: Today we're going to learn something fun and colorful. Luna: Oh, I love colors! Are we learning colors in Italian? Lucas: Exactly. We'll start with four basic colors. Ready? Luna: Assolutamente! I mean, absolutely! Lucas: Let's begin. The first color is red. In Italian, rosso. Luna: Rosso. Like a red rose? That's easy enough. Lucas: Yes! Rosso. Red. So if you want to say 'a red apple', you'd say 'una mela rossa'. Luna: Wait, why 'rossa' and not 'rosso'? Lucas: Great question. Colors change depending on if the noun is masculine or feminine. 'Mela' is feminine, so we say 'rossa'. But for now, just remember the base form: rosso. Luna: Okay, I'll stick with rosso for now. Rosso, rosso. Lucas: Next color: blue. In Italian, blu. It's the same spelling but pronounced 'bloo'. Luna: Blu. Like the sky. Blu. Lucas: Perfect. And the sky is 'il cielo'. So 'blue sky' is 'cielo blu'. Luna: Cielo blu. That sounds beautiful. Lucas: Now green. In Italian, verde. Like 'verdant'. Verde. Luna: Verde. Green grass. Lucas: Exactly. And finally, yellow. In Italian, giallo. Giallo. Luna: Giallo. That's fun to say. Giallo, giallo. Lucas: Let's practice all four. Repeat after me: rosso, blu, verde, giallo. Luna: Rosso, blu, verde, giallo. I got it! Lucas: Now let's put them in a little conversation. Imagine you're describing a scene. I'll say a sentence in English, and you try to say it in Italian with the colors. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: The car is red. How would you say that? Remember 'car' is 'macchina' and it's feminine, so the color will be 'rossa'. Luna: La macchina è rossa? Lucas: Yep! La macchina è rossa. Perfect. Luna: Yes! I did it. Lucas: Now try: The sky is blue. 'Sky' is 'cielo' and it's masculine, so 'blu' stays the same. Luna: Il cielo è blu. Lucas: That's it! Il cielo è blu. Luna: What about 'the grass is green'? Grass is 'erba'? Lucas: Yes, 'erba' is feminine. So you'd say 'L'erba è verde' — but note that 'the' becomes 'l' before a vowel. Luna: L'erba è verde. That's pretty. Lucas: Now last one: The sun is yellow. 'Sun' is 'sole', masculine. Luna: Il sole è giallo. Lucas: Brava! Il sole è giallo. Luna: We did it! Four colors and four sentences. I feel so accomplished. Lucas: And remember, you can practice by looking around you and naming colors in Italian. That red shirt? Rosso. That blue pen? Blu. It's a great way to build vocabulary. Luna: I'll definitely be doing that. Okay, let's do a quick recap. Rosso, blu, verde, giallo. Lucas: Wonderful. That's all for today's episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo. Practice these colors, and we'll see you next time for more. Luna: Grazie for listening! Bye for now! Lucas: Ciao ciao!
