- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Today's a special episode.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: I know I've said that before, but today, I wish I had like a little today's episode is near and dear to me.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I have a good brother in the studio by the name of.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Come on, come on, come on.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: I I got a good brother in the studio by the name of Raymond House.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Raymond House.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Welcome, bro.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank you.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Glad to be here.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Thank you for joining me, man.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, glad to be here for sure.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm jumping into your bio.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: So this is what this is what I think, and this is what the streets are saying about you right now.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: So what I like to do is I I'm gonna read it top to bottom.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: You tell me, like, either I sign that off, I approve, or you know, take this out, add this, you miss something.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Like we're we're going straight like that.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Cool?
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, it says today's guest is more than a guest.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: To me, he's my guy Raymond House.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: Husband, father, mentor, friend, writer, musician, director, former Arkansas Razorback.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: House is a man whose story blends discipline, creativity, and service in a way very few care.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: When he's not overseas handling global trade, access compliance, house is pouring into his community.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: You'll find him on the air discussing sports, mentoring young leaders, or behind the scenes scoring his church's Christmas play.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: His life is a balance of strategy and soul, managing the complexities of global business while never letting go of artistry and storytelling that drive him.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: For over 16 years, he's navigated leadership roles that require sharp problem solving and people skills, but his greatest impact has always been personal.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: He's been a steady mentor, a trusted friend, and someone who helps see the bigger picture.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: For me personally, House has played a pivotal role in my own journey as a creative and storyteller and for the community at large.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: He's a reminder that success is not just about titles, but about influence, integrity, and the ability to leave things better than you found them.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Friends, welcome Raymond House.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: That was that was something like that.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: What'd you think about that, bro?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: That was that was that's good.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: You got me got me, if I was a few shades light, I'd be blushing.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Bro, that's that's that's you.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: When you hear, oh yeah, bro, like my my honor sincerely, you know, this is this is already one of my favorite episodes.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Like, this what you mean to me, and like I say, the community.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Well, when you hear that bio, when you hear everything from, you know, first of all, husband and father, and then you know, you have the corporate side of what you do in the artist and the creative side and then the mentor side and the sports side, like every single thing that encompasses, you know, what comes to your mind when you hear that?
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: It you know, uh it's tough to say.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: It was when you're such a when you're positioned to kind of hear stuff about yourself.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Um I'm not just a big a big like just okay, as soon as we get it over, I'll be good.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Uh but um it feels right though.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because you you you want to be in the places where you feel like you can you can add value or you can you can mean something to somebody, at least for me.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I uh you know, just hopefully through all those things, I guess that I've been I've been a part of and involved in hopefully I've you know I've helped add helped out some way, yeah, add some value, you know, done something for somebody, you know.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: So that that's that that's what I I am hoping, you know, as I and you know, that's a you know it's a journey you continue to stay on.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So I'm hoping that that's definitely the case.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Bro, I grew up in a community like many people, you know what I'm saying, in in this where I'm from at least, where we didn't have a ton of mentors.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: True.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: And if we did have those mentors, they might not necessarily be modeling that which you should model.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Like, you with me there.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: And and you know, shout out to the people in my life who have poured into me and helped mold me.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: Um, but when I think about like a brother, like a black man that's confident, family oriented, that's what I would consider successful, not just from a monetary business standpoint, but from a personal integrity standpoint, I feel like you fit the criteria.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: You're one of the few people that with a conscious mind, I said, like, yeah, that's that's a role model.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: And so I'm curious about your story and your journey and how you got to the point where people like me and others can say, like, yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: I could, I could look up to this person or I could, I can model myself after house if I see him do it.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: I know that sounds crazy to you.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: But it but that's but that's the reality, bro.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: And I want to be intentional with giving you your flowers because that's the reality, like that's how we see it.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: And so for you, I I just want to go back to the beginning of all of this.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Like, how did you even get to where you are now when you were, let's just say young house, bro?
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: When, you know, 8, 9, 10.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Like, what did you think you would be doing?
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Who were some of those influences for you?
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: Like, this is really your show.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: We diving in right now.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: So let's unpack all of it, bro.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Like, let's go back to the top.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, so uh it it it for one, I'm humbled by that, right?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And and it and it kind of resonates um with me when I think about and you talk about upbringings, you know, me being from born and raised in Little Rock, uh Southwest specifically, Wakefield.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Shout out, shout out to Wakefield.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: And um you know, I think about my upbringing, like I came from a two-parent household, and I remember like my dad being one of the you know, the few dads that you that you would know with like in the I we knew most of them, like the small handful that were around, sure, especially the friends I had around.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Um uh, but uh you think about those early influences, um, you know, him, my dad being one of them, um, and uh and it which is always an interesting story too, him him coming from my dad coming from a single parent household, uh, and his advancy of wanting something different for us, for me and my brothers, and you know, uh, and for our family, uh, and that being kind of the foundation of it.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: So, you know, born and raised there.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, um, I when I think about all the things like uh creativity, um, you know, music, which is kind of how we connected as well too.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: That then I also started, you know, at home too.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Um my dad's a pastor, and so I grew up in trip playing in church bands.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Right on.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And so that became like the the initial onset of me understanding what creativity is and uh, you know, being able to do something different.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: So we got to talk about how cutthroat the church circuit is too.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Like people don't understand, you know.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: I heard Jermaine Dupree say, like, the music ain't the same because folks ain't in church no more.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: You know, that but we that's a sideboard.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I do I do want to talk intentionally about the sharpening of coming up in church, and you know, but but keep going.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, and um, you know, I think you know that's that was kind of the the beginning of it all.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Um, and even in um, you know, my dad, my dad being a big influencer by that too.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Um, you think about all the other things too, stage, um, film, all that.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: You know, my dad's a big movie buff too, as well.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: So like going, I can remember being a kid, being a kid going to going to movie theaters way back then.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Back then, we know we had the dollar movie back then as well, too.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So I remember that.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: That was on the tail end of me coming.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: I remember that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: So the dollar movie was cool because you could wait, you could wait for the movie to get to the dollar movie and still get the experience for cheap.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: So uh that was definitely a a big portion of us uh growing up.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: But um, but yeah, it was um involved in a lot of things, sports being with them as well too.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Um and you know, kind of uh that that's what brought me here to North Arkansas, you know, attending the University of Arkansas here.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Right on.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and um, you know, it it's it's you mean my my time here in college, just as it is with most folks, is very transformative.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And you know it's the way, you know, you you you you grow up, right?
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: You know, and and you meet lifelong friends.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, you do that, go chase dreams for a couple of years, came back to Northwest Arkansas in a whirlwind.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Um What what dream were you chasing?
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Uh let's go.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I told you, we're going there, bro.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: What are you doing?
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: What what dream did you leave to go chase?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Football.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Football was the dream.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: I um I uh you know I I attended uh University of Arkansas Football Scholarship and played here.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, for I was here for a course of five years and uh uh spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons, got there as an undrafted free agent, uh, spent a good portion of my time on the practice squad there, played in Canada for a while as well, too.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Uh was in Ottawa.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Uh and then the year I got back, still under contract in Ottawa, the same year I got married, same year my oldest was on the way.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Uh and and uh that's when I decided that, you know, that that dream had to had to kind of cease for everything else.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: No regrets on it, too.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: It was a great time.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: You know, but it was it was a whirlwind of a year, and that and that was kind of the beginning of my um, you know, professional career.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And for what it's worth, um uh the creativity kind of stuck with me along the way.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: It's always it's you know, if it's in you, it never really goes away, right?
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: It kind of sticks with you.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: So um progressing here and you know, making this area home, uh, you know, is where I found other opportunities to delve into other creative avenues and uh you know and for what it's worth in in in kind of safe spaces, sure it was, you know, it was kind of kind of welcome.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: So that that's kind of the way.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And this is tough, man.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think through all the things that I'm gonna do.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, you're doing great, but hey, you're doing great, but you're doing great.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Um, uh, you know, and so it started a professional career here, and you kind of talked about that as well, too.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's kind of long the consistency, the long-standing thing.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: But as I flow through involvement and other things, um, you know, especially within my church here, you know, St.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: James and Fayetteville, uh, as my home church, and you know, a lot in that that being a a big key cog of my creativity and having an opportunity and a platform if you want to be able to engage.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Uh while all while in high school is when I first started and got exposed to with love from film, first got exposed into acting.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: And so two years of two years uh structured drama classes while I was in high school.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Um and uh didn't it kind of took a a whole break from it from college.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, um, you know, I was a computer information systems major, so yeah, it's hard to kind of fit that in.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: But right coming back into um, you know, being involved with my church and having an opportunity to do it again, it was pretty cool.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And so that that's what kind of got me, you know, back in kind of the thespian portion of things there as well, too.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know you had that background.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: What else, bro?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: What else we don't know, man?
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Put it all out.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Put it on the table, bro.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I'm trying to make sure I keep keep good track here.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Um, but um, so you know, if if we if we if we talk, so we I I guess we'll talk avenues.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: We talked music, right?
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Being in the church, growing up in, you know, playing in church bands.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, that was the, you know, really, you know, honing in on that particular scene.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: And then it it morphed into while I was in college, sure, having an interest in music production.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: You know, what uh you know, have being in and around artists, not necessarily really doing it while I was in college.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I really didn't actually try to turn my hand in the actual medium until I got out of college.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: I was and I was in Atlanta, right?
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: And if you if you in Atlanta in in early 2000s, like it's you the Mecca! Yeah, it was yeah, it is definitely home for um home for that and to know that and understand it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: And so being it was really easy to find community and people to know and understand and try things out and um uh you know, really kind of get to, okay, this is what I think I could do, and this is how I think this is how it works.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of where I learned the ins and outs of music production and then moving back to Northwest Arkansas.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I took a big bit of a break from it, yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, but got back into it as the same way.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Just, you know, it's just if you if it's something that you, you know, that you I I really feel like if it's something that you're meant to do, you don't really have to find, work really hard to find opportunities to be engaged.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: And part of it's, you know, uh somehow, some way you're gonna find like there's gonna be a need or there's gonna be an opportunity to take advantage of.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: And yeah.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Uh that's kind of how it worked, where, you know, and then and then connecting with.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: And it was interesting too, because around about that time, ins and outs, doing small things for artists here and there, trying to uh, you know, still learning, uh, but but still trying to add value where I where I could.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And you know, a part of me still had these um these you know grandiose aspirational dreams of you know doing production for major artists and things like that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: You know, after after a while I kind of came to the realization that um, you know, if I if I really want to do it, if that's really the goal and and was w why would I try to go chase something that's so far and so distant if I could just find ways to work with people that are right here easily accessible to me, right?
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Uh like like what how am I gonna convince somebody that's from the other side of the planet to do some work with me if I can't convince the person around the corner that I might be worth worth doing some work with?
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: We got an episode of Story Skilling that's out right now with my buddy Eddie Canyon.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: He's on the club.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: You know it.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: He's an artist that's gonna be performing the bang in the gang.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And uh he said same thing.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: He said, I used to want to make it, but now I just want to make it.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Like, used to want to make it big, now I just want to create.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I'm saying, with people that's worth creating with, which is anybody who wants to create.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: And so I think that, yeah, that's that's dope.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: That's what you know, hearing you say that brought me to in my mind.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: And so fast forward a few years there, I you know, that's when I really started just making that the focus.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: It's like, how can I just work for people that are around and then just make the motivation, I like this person, I I like what they're doing, I like their sound, I like you know, and just removing whatever roadblock might be in the way from that happening, you just keep going.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: And so I think that became the you know, the the really kind of the turning point for me, interestingly enough, and whether or not, you know, kind of deciding, we've talked about this before, trying to try to decide whether or not I even want to like be interested, or is this a waste of time?
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just uh, you know, unfounded hobby, whatever it is.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: So, um, but you know, but really having that change of mindset and how I wanted to approach and work with people.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that's what led to what I I really feel like was turning point 2015, 2016.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Really, you know, having a lot of things to do with a lot of different people around and then just engaging with uh, you know, just the local scenes here and working with artists there.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: So that's and so now it's you know, look at this point now, we're still still quite a bit going on.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Let's give you some more flowers, bro.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Like so doing a lot of things.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: So one thing, one thing I've always appreciated about our relationship the most, bro, is your perspective.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: I feel like you are so rich in perspective.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I wanted to even, I was about to ask you the question, when did you realize that you were good at producing?
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: But then I remember a conversation that we had early on, you was like, yeah, bro, if any of these resonate, cool.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: If not, then that's cool too.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Like it maybe it ain't speaking to you, but that's all right.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: You know, and I'm saying, you know, you you you help me put stuff into you know proper channels in terms of like sometimes it ain't even about good and bad.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: It's about does this resonate?
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, does it not?
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: We'll revisit it in, you know, however long.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: And we've had moments where you play me something, I'm like, okay, this is tight, but it ain't hidden nothing.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: And then a year later, it's on a project or something like that.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: And so um, I am I am curious about has there been a moment in your journey that made you say, oh man, you know, I I am good at this, or you know that's an interesting question because I'm not real sure if I I I still probably struggle with the phrase, am I good at this?
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Um because really when I when I think about it, you know, when what is good, I mean, when you talk about art, it's so subjective.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: And like what is good, what is bad?
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Like what it what are we what are you really trying to say when you when you make a statement?
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: I um I started off really just trying to, when first started, like, okay, I want to hear something hey, how did how can I make something that sounds like that?
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: And how can I, you know, execute specifically something that that's in my head and make it come out right?
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: And so, and so it, you know, it took a couple of years to really feel good about whatever I've whatever it is I was doing from that standpoint and and that and that, okay, well now how can I make something that isn't doesn't come from something else, it comes from from me.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Um and and then just working and fine-tuning, okay, well, how can I try to find out how to do different things?
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Um and and then you have the the the kind of proverbial, you know, um validation from other people is just like, oh, yeah, you let people hear it, and it's like, but you don't, but you still don't want to hinge everything to hinge on whether I feel like I've done a good job on whether somebody else likes it or not.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: It really just right.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Was did I am I getting to a point where I have something in my head that I can get out?
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: And let's see what happens and what makes it work, what's done with it, right?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: And then it's especially too when coming from a purely, you know, old school music production, trying to work with artist type things, there is some of the right, you're you're trying to meet the need of a customer.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: But but even then, like now knowing and understanding it as looking at it truly as an art form, like I might, I might do things that I might have specifically for an artist.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I might do things that might be specifically for um uh you know a film, or it might be for a PSA, or it might just be something that sits on itself as its own piece of something, or it's part of a different project that has like there's so many different ways to do it.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So it's like, okay, what is really good, right?
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Or how am I good at, well, you know, am I good at it?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I can I can make something, I can do it, right?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and and it's uh because I know it, because for me, I'm still learning.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: I'm still, even after all this time, still trying to figure things out, still understanding new things and and just having the appreciation for being a part of the process and being able to work with people.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: So didn't you didn't you make the scheming big?
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I did.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: You good.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Hey, you feel like hey, it's it's it's funny because you talk sometimes you talk to people and uh and they you know they they give certain answers, what I would consider like the right answer, like the the kind of politically correct.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Sure, sure.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: You know, and and you well spoken, but I I know you, you know, personally.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: You know, I call you when I need some insight when I need to, you know what I'm saying, chop it up, and you know, and you you are this person.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Everything you just said, you actually feel like, you know, you were one of the first people to teach me success is a relative.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: It is very relative, you know what I mean?
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: And and B is is just completion of something.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: So if you want to do a project, just do it.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Just do the project.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: And if it sells, if you blow up, great.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: But like you were success because you did it and completed it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: And I think that's really i in the art form, it's just the the most, you know, striking piece of it all is that when you think about art, it's just that starting with that blank catalyst.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Like there's nothing there.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And and it's so really the the real goal is not let me make this magnum opus or let me make this just this is the greatest thing.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's really how do I go from something that looks like this blank sheet of paper to it not being blank.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: And then you and you just kind of take it from there and start saying, and I think that's what um can be restrictive from a creative perspective, is that there's these expectations people have in their mind about what it what it what it should be, what the outcomes should be from it, what it should do, all of that.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: But it's but it's really like how do I get from nothing to something?
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And then from what I see there, something to something more, or something different, or how whatever is defined as something better.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you just start from there.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Bro, first of all, I'm just hope so grateful for the listeners right now, bro.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Because I get to talk to you, you feel I can call you, but they might not have a house that that could just drop gems, you know what I'm saying?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: So this is this is really dope.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: And appreciate you.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, let me let me this wife call.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: You good?
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Get that, get that.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: Hey, we can't.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Answer your wives.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Everybody out there, when the missus calls, stop and answer.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh, I was saying I'm grateful to have you, you know.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: And I think that's good.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: I need to put like a little gem counter at the bottom.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Then you know that because that's the gem right there.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: The first one is get started.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Like, so much of success is just making sure that this blank paper doesn't stay blank.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: It don't even matter what it ends up being, you know, start the process.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Which for me, that's interesting and that's hidden home because I had a buddy of mine ask me yesterday, how's music going?
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: And I said, probably not good.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: And, you know, you look and I'm doing interviews and I got my festival coming up, and all of these things are happening.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: And so on one hand, it's like, man, I'm grateful and it's beautiful, it's going really well.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: On the other hand, I haven't been creating space to make sure that this paper doesn't stay blank.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: And so, and so success for me, it don't even matter if I drop nothing.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Success for me is making sure that for 30 minutes every day, I'm at least sitting down listening to something.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: I'm at least writing something, I'm at least reaching out to you, saying, like, what's inspiring you?
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: But if you aren't even creating the space for something to go forth, then it's gonna stay blank.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Especially especially when it's we've talked about time boxing and you know, those things that um that you kind of have to do when you don't you're not in we're not m the vast majority of creators are not full-time creators and this is all that they do.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: And so that's still kind of a bit of a small population, but for the rest of us, yes.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: And uh, how do you carve out just a little bit of time, right?
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: And you know, because we've talked about this, you know, you know, you know, and you kind of understand my process when I have time.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Um I I have to know exactly what I'm gonna do with it so I can go with so it actually gets done.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, you break it down to the minute, like you be you be down to the five minutes, I'm gonna do this to this, you know what I mean?
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whatever it is that I have that and that's it, but you have to do that in order to find a way to to to do it.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Because the because when you think about success, comparing it comp comparison of success to failure, the only way that you really fail is it if you just do nothing.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: And success is you know, it's just the opposite.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Just do something.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Um and when you think about it in that terms, it it really changes your perspective and things on how you, you know, um okay, is this is this a good day or have I gotten some yeah, just it's okay.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Just do it.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: Just do it.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: You once told me, I wonder if you remember this, that space is infinitely small as it is large.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, that's correct.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: What does that even mean?
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, I'll still think about that.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: I'm not even dropping on other people, like excuse me.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: I I bet you didn't know space is you know what I'm saying?
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Like, so yeah, so so explain that to listen.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it's um what it you it's all it's really the perspective you take on the things that you're a part of and and what you're doing, and uh sometimes you can be overwhelmed um uh but because something seems so insurmountable.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Uh uh but but you either way it goes, I get because even if it was smaller, right?
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: This uh understanding the the fine-tooth of the minute things of something can also uh take you it all time all types of ways and and and different depths, and so you kind of have to be relative within yourself.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Like don't don't ever think something's either too big or too too small for you.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: I mean it it's what it is, and it's gonna be what you make it.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: And it's how you know, really thinking about how you define yourself within those spaces that you're in, no matter how big or how wide small you think they are, right?
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Uh because you know you it can be you think this is big, oh sure it can be bigger, right?
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: You think this is small, well what oh no, it can be wide, it can be smaller.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: And you start comparing that and looking at um, you know, it because it's about perspective, and then hopefully that perspective gets you to the point of appreciating the spaces that you're in as well, too.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Um because I I because at least for me that's how it's it's been, right?
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: And I've you know, it's just I have uh I have a you know an interest in things that are that seem to be, you know, that are grandiose and huge and but there's but that doesn't uh negate the the value and the and and what's awesome and the things that are just simple and yeah and small and and that we sometimes take it for granted.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: How do you get past the paralysis of analysis?
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: We're going hey, we I don't know how much time we got going.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: We get into the meat.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Like, bro, like if in your experience, you know what I mean, right now, I feel like is the golden age of of being of being a creator and the most challenging time to be a creator at the same time.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's paralysis by analysis means I am stuck because I am thinking about all of the things.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Um and that stuckness prevents me.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: And it's a little bit related to what we kind of what we talked about.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh talked about.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Um I'm stuck and and I keep thinking through all of these different things, and you've got to unstick yourself by coming out of all of the stuff here.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: And get and thinking at a little bit higher level on what it is that you're trying to do, trying to accomplish who am I?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: What am I trying to do?
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: How do I want to do it?
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: And um what's the plan for me to get there?
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: And you spend a little bit of time thinking about what that plan is.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Can we sit there for a second?
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: And bro, you also have when I say perspective, that, you know what I mean?
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Like you have the ability to say, okay, what are you actually trying to do?
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: You know, because you told me when I was hobbying with music, toying with it, like you need to decide if you're gonna make this a hobby or if you're gonna make this career, because it's different steps.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: You know, if you if you just want to have a good time with it, then cool, go whenever you want, you know.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: But if you want to make this a job, you gotta treat it like a job.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: You know, you got to clock in when you don't want to go in, you gotta turn down some of those things because you're working.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: But it's really true, you know.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: And so my question to you is how important is setting goals and and having that target in your head, whether that's I want to release one album, whether that's I want to do my own show, I want to win a grammy.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Like, how important is that?
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: And then once you have that goal, you know, break down for me what you would consider some of those steps or some of those, you know, just real practical, tangible application for some of us.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Um so it to your point, it's it's true, it really truly is important to have uh goals uh in front of you.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: And um, and sometimes that scares people because there's there's that the fear of the fear of of losing out, fear of failure, fear of not accomplishing it.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: But uh but when you're the one that's setting that goal, then you then you're you're you allow yourself to position yourself to be successful.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Um and you start and you think about those goals in the simplest of terms as it possibly can be, in order for you to say, yep, this is what I'm gonna actually go and get done.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Um and and because the because back to your previous question, kind of what it's rooted on is that paralysis by you know, by analysis, I'm I'm thinking you don't don't overthink what you're trying to get done.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: Pull yourself a little bit out of it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: What are you trying to do?
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: What are you trying to accomplish?
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: What what does that look like in the simplest of forms?
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Don't think you it has to be your greatest work right out the gate, or there has to be all these different things.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: What is it what is it I'm trying to do, right?
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: So, like, because like what we talked about it before, right?
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I uh okay, I want to I w I want to be a recording honor.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I said, Okay, what does what does that mean, right?
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: What is a recording artist?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Well, they they record music, okay.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: So really you're saying you just want to you want to record record music.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: So, all right.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: What kind of music do you want to record?
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is this is the space, this is the lane I'm in, okay.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: All right, start, you know, I uh but I have you ever done a song?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've done a song before or not.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, that's fine too.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about a song.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Just just, you know, maybe I just write a uh, you know, uh eight uh eight bars, or I just it's a part of something, or I just and then you just you start there with what's realistic and allow yourself to meet yourself where you are for whatever it is you want to do.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: I said I want to do years ago, I said I want to I want to be pretty, I want to make beats.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: And and I and and I and I got covered, and I was like, what about this?
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: And software and dogs and controllers, and like I don't have space, and what about m it's like nope, nope, just yeah, just find out, just make something.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Even if it's just old school, just beating up on a on a tabletop, right?
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Guess what?
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Guess what?
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: You'd made something that's something, right?
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you start with the simplest of things and and you just try things out.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Or is this person not like this?
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: Yep, that's cool, but maybe I need something different.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: And you just and you start there, but just having something you cannot get better at anything unless you measure it.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: And the goals become what that measure is.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Uh but you can make it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the goal could be to do something as a and and as opposed to not.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: So if you did it, guess what?
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: You accomplished your goal.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: And and you be realistic with yourself on what that is and how you formulate that within it.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And that's how you prevent the paralysis, is that I have to have somewhere I need to go and something I need to do.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: But I want to make sure that it's it's it's something that I can succeed at and it's something within reach and I start there.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: Do something.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: And then after that, guess what?
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: You can do something more.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:36unknown: Ding.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: That's a good gym, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: That's that's that's a gem calendar.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: Man, so it's interesting.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Our our paths crossed, I would I would consider at a pivotal moment for both of us.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: You know, for you, you had already been in a creative space working with artists locally, regionally, nationally, you know, doing doing your thing, and and correct me if I'm wrong, almost getting jaded to the process of like, man, is this fulfilling?
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Am I doing something that's meaningful?
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: You know, and then and and almost to some degree considering what moving forward in the creative space looked like as far as producing music and so on and so forth.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Um and I was in the opposite space of feeling like I had been running from a calling and not sharing my gift with the world and sitting on my gift and saying I don't never want to do this, to realizing, like, oh wait, it's not a matter of if I need to do this or not.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: It's am I gonna be obedient and walk in the calling that was, you know, given given to me.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: And so I forgot who made the initial connection.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I don't remember if it was Jasper or who I got your number from initially.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: But, anyways, we get connected and we meet, and I remember you telling me for me to engage in something right now, it needed to be meaningful, it needed to be purposeful, and it needed to feel aligned, is what you were telling me.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: And and I was like, oh, cool, you know, and so we you feel me?
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Because I didn't, I didn't know, I didn't know everything I knew now.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: I didn't know that you had worked with tons of different artists and had traveled and done all of these different things.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: And so it was almost like a beautiful naivety on my end because I'm just like, it's my first rodeo, but it's not yours.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: And so I think, man, we just met at this time when you also modeled for me what it looked like to get something down.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm pulling up on you when you are in mid-work mode.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: You got the family going, you got the job going, you got everything, and you like, nah, we got this 30 minutes, we got this one hour, let's maximize it.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: You know, we leave with a song, or maybe not a song, but knowing how we want to start this first 10 seconds of the song, you know what I mean?
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: And so, anyways, bro, that's just I'm just telling you, that's a core memory.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: I look at myself now and some of the opportunities that I've been afforded, you know, so God be the glory in some of the stages that I've been on, and started with some of those early sessions of just knowing, you know, how to how to prioritize.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: I'm curious from your perspective, when you when you think back at those moments, you know, for you, for me, and you see where we are now in our individual journeys and collectively, you know what I'm saying, as a brotherhood, like what's what's some themes that either feel like through lines or some stuff that comes to mind just when you think about them bursting out?
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's interesting, man.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Well, first, first off, I mean, the first thing that comes to mind, man, God's time is perfect time every single time.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and us being connected in in those moments that we were in, you know, you think back circa 2016, you know, like so it's been that you know, been that long.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Almost a decade.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which is you know, which seems like it flies by.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, uh both of us, uh the commonality, although we may have been in different phases, is just the commonality, it's just a a certain level of openness to be able to um work with someone that you hadn't worked with before and and and and really just allow the opportunity for for whatever it may be, it might be, right?
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Just that we we uh as human beings, a lot of times we like to have a lot of control and a lot of structure and when you get fixated on certain things, but really just uh allowing room and space to just let whatever happened, because that's what it is.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, whatever happened was gonna happen.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: It's totally gonna be something or it's gonna be nothing.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: But you know that going in and you just be okay with however this lands, and uh to be able to get your best effort within that.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: That you know that that's I think we were both in a space where we're willing to do that.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: Um and you know, just I I I think we both kind of maybe I I'm not really sure.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Because I guess I've never asked what your expectations were initially going in and and thinking about what would happen.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: I know for me, it's just like, you know, think first meeting you, I'm like, man, this guy, he, you know, I I know there's something there, but he maybe he's gonna do something with it, maybe he's not.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, Oh, wow.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Well, let's let's see.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: I never thought about that from your perspective.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I mean, because it that's you I I wanted to I wanted you to do something, and I I wanted something to come about, but it could have easily been like, you didn't like my sound, or I didn't, you know, there are so many other things, and I think that's the other thing too that kind of hinders people is that the you know, what if it doesn't work out?
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: What if they don't like what I do and it's but it's but it's okay, yeah, but that still shouldn't stop you from because you'll never know unless you just you know, you you know, you you you have and that's that's where we you know that's where we got it, right?
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: You think about you know the collection between you, uh, you know, me and and all and and and core, shout out Corey, right?
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: Oh shout out that boy Corey Nuts.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and then you know, and that's just right, just that all kind of centered around what is it that we need to make sure that it happened.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: And it's really cane out of the most essential pieces of going from nothing to something.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: That's where we landed.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: So it's this uh that I that's kind of how I think about way that that point then, but it but you know, I I've seen hindsight, you know, um to be able to be a part of something that, you know, you know, speaking for myself here, just be very proud to be to be involved in and engaged in and then to see the resonation now, even after that much time, how how it resonates with people and be able to connect with people.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And it's just but and I think that's that's uh a product of the precipice of just just being okay with you know being who you are and connecting with people and seeing what happens and goes from there.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: I think that's the beauty of uh you know of of of most art.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: It's just you know, that there's there's a little bit of fear that you have to overcome just getting getting over that and then allowing it to happen, and it's just you know, it's a great place to be.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Man, thank you.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: That was very well said.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: That that album changed my life.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: And I think in multiple ways.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: And the first way was it was just doing something.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Now you gotta think, bro.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: I had I've had people since I was like 15 tell me to make something and put it out.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: And so I would mess around with SoundCloud here and there and send some songs to my friends.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: I just had a buddy, shout out to Cam in Houston.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: He sent me a song that I did some years ago, and I'm like, hey, this tough, bro.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Like, send me all the other ones that you said now.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: I'll be forgetting, you know, because at this point we we churned out so much, but you know, when I made that, it showed me put something out, and and now you can feel success in the fact that something is complete.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: You know, I to your point, I don't know how people was gonna respond to it, but now, you know, you fast forward, it's almost been 10 years since this thing has come out and people are you know riding to it daily and you know getting married to some of these songs and and then the gym to some of these songs, like you know, and and it started with with us just believing in doing something.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and there is a a purity of that that I know I personally want to get get back to about just like man, just make the thing.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: If you do somebody, great.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: If if people love it, great.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: If not, that's cool too.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: But just make the thing that's that's in you, you know.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: Um question.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: So when you think about how how many different hats you wear, you know, you got the writer, and then you got the producer, and then the director and actor at times, you know, bro, it's a lot.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: Um shout out to Mike Day, uh Cobert just came out, All Students Can Learn, beautiful film.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: And I went to the screening to see it, and in the first three seconds, I looked down at you and I said, You scored this, didn't you?
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: And you was like, Yeah, I hit I heard it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: And so this is a two-part question.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: How do you craft your own lane?
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: Your your own, in your case, it would be a sound.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: You know, there is a there is a third house sound, you know.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Um, and if you know, you know.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Like people, you know, people can can pick up on that.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: How do you how do you find your voice?
- 39:26SPEAKER_02: How do you find your sound?
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: How do you find, you know, your niche, so to speak?
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: That's my first question.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: I uh you know, it it takes time, it it takes experimentation, right?
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: I mean you you kind of uh uh to create what that is for you, you kind of actively uh have to be in it and and doing those things.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: Um and um, you know, you have to be careful and you balance that with the the care you take with um you know being inspired by something without you know annoyingly recreating something else.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Um and um and so it kind of it starts there, but over time, at least for me, and and especially with working with artists, right?
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, of all kinds, right?
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: What creatives is uh you know, getting an understanding of who that person is, what drives them, but then also um the um what uh what's trying to happen, what's the what's the what's the emotion that you what do you want people to feel?
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: What do you want people to come away with and have a sense of in a certain moment, in a certain time.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Um and and then for you internally, you think about what motivates you and what inspires you and those and and and help that that becomes what creates what something sounds like, right?
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: If I if I I I know that there are certain things that are go-tos for me, if I if I if I know there's a sense of of happiness or success or something like that, or if there's sadness or despair or or or you know a troublesome situation or or being curious or questioning like, and it's just you kind of, okay, what does that sound like to me?
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: And and and then how do you get to the point of knowing what that is?
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: And and some of it is a straight line and some of it kind of just weaves to a certain place.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: But higher you go, you have to be okay.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: And then here's the other thing, too, is that I I can have something in my mind, I think it sounds one way, and then but once I actually get into the point of trying to execute it, it's this it's not what I'm saying.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: It's almost there, night and day.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: And it and it and it's okay if that's it.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: It's okay with this is what I and I come way out thinking about that's not I didn't think that's how I was gonna go, but that's what it became.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: And then being okay with knowing that some of it is what's here, and then some of it is the path you take to get to what's new.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Being okay with that taking a twist or a turn or it's being something that you didn't expect, and being able to relish in that too as well, too, can have the enjoyment of I think I know what it is, but I don't, and and and enjoying that path that you go down to be able to get there.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: And then so for and then for me, I think about the inspiration from you know music that I grew up on.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: I think about inspiration from movies that I grew up watching.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: I think about inspiration from, you know, churches, all the churches that I've been been a part of and and other path that I'm and I I've taken and the things that I hear, you know.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: I like you know, there's been instances where I, you know, I pull out my phone and and and record random sounds in a park, or and that becomes a part of what you know, what motivates you, or you feel like that's that's what the reflection is.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: And um, and you it it's a it's a massive, kind of consistent collection of things that you've taken in before, but so what you continue to to soak in as well to be able to craft what your particular sound is, and then and then once you get to that point being okay that it might not be what you thought it was gonna be, but also uh you know, just being just being okay with whatever it is, yeah.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Uh in the sense of um don't don't don't let some internal um expectation that you haven't met hold you up from getting the true expectation of getting from something.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: Man.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Well said.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: I think everything you say pretty well is I've never been in town.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: I'm like, what this brother talking about?
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Like, you got you got some experience, bro.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: I'm curious from from your perspective, what's more challenging executive producing an artist album or scoring a film?
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: Um you said what's more challenging?
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like what and you can look at that from you know both ways.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: Like what comes more natural given you know your background with film and you know, father being a movie above like your love for movies, and then same with the music thing, growing up, you know, kind of hearing sound, I would say, as the backdrop for a lot of your life.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: What what what feels more intuitive and what what you want is more challenging?
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: So they they both present different types of challenges uh in different ways.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: When you think about uh working with an artist um and and and going through uh you know a full album, right?
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Like there's so many uh intricacies and things that can change.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: It's kind of an evolving piece of work.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Uh and so you kind of have to go in because you you you involve uh you know, writing changes and features and um, you know, how is this part of a larger collective of visually speaking?
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: How do you throw that in there?
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: And there's some visions that are there, right?
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: And there's it it that can be um, you know, those has the challenges because it kind of can be a moving target.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: When you get to a film, like usually when I score a film, it's already done.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: And it's just uh and it's um it's static, but then it becomes there's there's uh there's challenge in noise, and then there's challenge in silence, right?
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: But there are two different types of challenges uh that you have to navigate different ways, right?
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: And so it's um, you know, is one more difficult than the other?
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Uh you know, that I it it it it just depends on how much, you know, that that that becomes a target you're trying to hit.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Uh but both of them have uh their own sets of challenges.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: Because like you you score a movie and like you're just watching it with nothing, no sound, and then it's it's okay.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: I have to fill in the blank on what's that's what's there.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Um but as opposed to you know there being uh but but but there's some similarities too to think about it because there's there's tempo and then there's pace and then there's emotion, right, in both mediums.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Um because even within a film, you might not you know you might not necessarily feel it how the tempo of something.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: All right, uh like there's a beat per minute within dialogue of a of a scene of a film like it would be a song.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, it's just how you get there is yeah, is you know, is a bit different.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: So um, but yeah, yeah, it's uh but they're they're they're both challenges, both rewarding to see kind of the end product, um, and and just just knowing and understanding.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: And you know, working with artists is a little bit more collaborative in nature, uh you know, and it's but you're kind of on an island with a film.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Uh and so those are things that, but it's and so for me, I I I usually try to shift in between the two to kind of keep my mind flexed out.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, like where do I need to take a break from one thing to do or do another to make sure that you know you keep the gears moving and your mind's far enough where it needs to be.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: I love it, bro.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: Give me your number one creator commandment.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: I usually do five, but you've given so many gems, this up, like you know what I'm saying?
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: Like it's five of them in there if they really listening.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: But like when I say creative commandment, I mean what's the number one thing for a person that wants to start to produce, start writing film, acting, cooking, whatever it is.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: But a person that wants to get started, what's the number one thing that you're like, you must do this?
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, you got to keep it simple for yourself and don't overthink it.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: Um in the simplest of terms, right?
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: Because we've had this conversation before.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: We have to do it.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: In the simplest of terms, uh state what it is that you want to do.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Because the the more the more simple it is, um uh you remove the complexity, and you also remove what seems to be a hindrance of a roll plot to get there.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: If you don't have to make the line squiggly, if you can make it a straight line, make it as straight of a line as what you want it to be.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: Where is he trying to get to?
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Keep it simple.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Don't overthink it.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, and and and just allow yourself the space to don't feel like there's messing up or there's failure.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: Just know that I want to do it, make the goal of just doing it and going there.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: And and then you just take it from there.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: That's really the the the that's the easiest thing to go off of.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: It's just keep it simple for yourself, don't overthink it.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, and and be okay with the journey and be okay if it doesn't sound like the way you think it is, what it looks like the way you want it to be.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: Just go over scroll with it.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: What else you got, bro?
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: Where can we follow you like you?
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Like, bro, this is great.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Like, this is where can we follow you?
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Where can we keep up with you?
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Like, where give us a yeah, yeah.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: So on social media, third house, P-R-O-D, uh, everywhere.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, we um with several things going on, I guess, right now.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: Um, it's kind of I have to kind of box up.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: So if we talk music, um, you know, we we we've talked a little bit of uh scoring.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: So uh shout out Mike Day.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: We uh just did the score for his web series that that's uh just in um in episode three.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: I think it's up through the episode three YouTube channel.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: So uh did the score for that.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: Uh he talked, you know, uh all students, all students can learn, and did the score for that as well too.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: Uh music-wise, um uh let's see, uh who uh released right now one project with uh shout out King Pimp and Vintage.

- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Big shout out to uh Avi and Leah, killing it right now.

- 49:22SPEAKER_00: Doing it.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: So um uh the couple of and we talked about film too.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: We didn't really delve into it too, but did uh completed my first couple of short films.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Um so um finishing up um festival circus for both of those as well too.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: So that's so that's pretty cool.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: So yeah, just just staying busy.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Um second originals for uh stage play uh premiering at at my church, St.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: James, Baptist in Fairville, uh December 14th.

- 49:57SPEAKER_00: So so yeah, all good stuff, man.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: No complaints.
