- 4:58Speaker 3: So I haven't been able to completely get that.
- 5:05Speaker 3: But I am doing this all by myself A lot of times when I'm podcasting with other people, either guests, like we have from time to time from the studio, or with the other Scotchy Bourbon Boys, roxy, super, nash, whiskey, you know, and that Now tonight I might just give Whiskey a call live on the podcast.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That's something we might do.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I'm thinking about it.
- 5:30Speaker 3: If this goes quick enough, tonight's podcast is going to be about now.
- 5:39Speaker 3: We went over the social media, we went over the.

- 5:54Speaker 3: We really appreciate if you like what you're seeing Now.
- 5:58Speaker 3: It's kind of a cool thing tonight.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But, like I said, I might give Whiskey a call live on the podcast.
- 6:06Speaker 3: It just depends A lot of you guys are chiming in.
- 6:09Speaker 3: But tonight we're going to be talking about bourbon experiences, one of the cool things about what would you say?
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know there's an aspect of bourbon and whiskey that you're talking about the drinking and the tasting.
- 6:24Speaker 3: There's different types of whiskeys, you know, made for relaxing.
- 6:29Speaker 3: There's different types for going to concerts.
- 6:31Speaker 3: There are all the different types of whiskeys.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Some are hot and spicy, some are, you know, nice, relaxing, not a lot of spice, with a lot of flavor and taste finishes.
- 6:46Speaker 3: There's the stuff for sitting by the campfire and whatnot.
- 6:49Speaker 3: But you know you've got that.
- 6:52Speaker 3: But then you also got the collectability.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That's the one thing that everybody does.
- 6:55Speaker 3: They go out there and they collect the bottles because whiskey is not the same from batch to batch.
- 7:01Speaker 3: It changes year to year.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So if you buy a barrel strength of Elijah Craig barrel proof whiskey and you buy, it comes out three times a year A, b and C, whatever year it is.
- 7:14Speaker 3: This year you have A23, b23 and C23, you know the months that come out January, march and, I believe, late September, early October, and those batches.
- 7:25Speaker 3: When they come out, everybody, you know, wants them.
- 7:28Speaker 3: That's because each one is a little bit different.
- 7:31Speaker 3: It's barrel proof, it's coming out.
- 7:33Speaker 3: They're not affecting, they're not.
- 7:35Speaker 3: They're not.
- 7:36Speaker 3: They're using barrels and they're not watering them down, so they don't have the same control to maintain the flavor.
- 7:44Speaker 3: They can get close to the flavor profile, but they're different.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Some are sweeter, some are more what would you say spicier, some are have a little bit more bite to them.
- 7:56Speaker 3: So that's where the collectability comes in.
- 7:59Speaker 3: It's like you've got the batches from each year.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Some batches are better than others.
- 8:04Speaker 3: It's similar to wine.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But this is where the experience of where and when you go to different places.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Now there's a lot of different types of experience.
- 8:19Speaker 3: There's a tasting experience.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Like you can hire me to bring bourbon to your house.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I'm going to be doing this for a corporate tasting with 10 people, with whiskey coming up next Tuesday.
- 8:34Speaker 3: So next Tuesday we won't be podcasting, but the experience is I bring four bourbons, I bring the glassware, I set up a tasting and you and your friends can walk through and we talk about what and how you can go about tasting whiskey.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So what I've done we talk about what I've done to get better at tasting whiskey, how much whiskey you want to drink at a time, depending on the situation, all that type of stuff, and then go through tasting notes and proof and just go through the whole whiskey experience.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That's one experience that you can get with the tasting.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Then there are tastings with special and dinners with special people.
- 9:24Speaker 3: That is really kind of a cool thing.
- 9:26Speaker 3: The distilleries offer those.
- 9:28Speaker 3: We'll go over that a little bit.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Then there is the whiskey making experience on.
- 9:35Speaker 3: When you go to the distillery and you get to see how the whiskey is made, you get to see how it's matured, all the different things they're doing, and you get this really cool experience with either the master distiller or you get to go into a rick house and you get to do some things.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Those overall experiences are really cool and it's also what keeps us excited.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I mean, it's just kind of like when you're a kid.
- 10:08Speaker 3: You liked the Milky Mouse Club, you liked to watch Disney cartoons, but then you went to Walt Disney World and that was a whole different experience.
- 10:20Speaker 3: You were involved with it.
- 10:24Speaker 3: That's what whiskey experiences are.
- 10:27Speaker 3: You become involved as a podcaster.
- 10:31Speaker 3: One of the cool things is that being involved.
- 10:37Speaker 3: I can get involved in ways that the average person doesn't get involved.
- 10:42Speaker 3: When we podcast with a master distiller, let's say, and get to taste whiskey with him and talk to him and then just get that whole experience, those are extra experiences.
- 10:53Speaker 3: One-on-one with Harlan Wheatley, one-on-one with Greg Schneider, those are not.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Those experiences are the other type of experience that, if you're really into whiskey, this is the kind of stuff that happens.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I really believe that the whiskey industry, the bourbon industry, is really about karma, because the people making the whiskey are just such down-home, grounded people, family-oriented.
- 11:27Speaker 3: They're very family-oriented.
- 11:30Speaker 3: It's a mentality of a whiskey plant and a whiskey factory.
- 11:36Speaker 3: But they're producing something that has a little bit of artistry involved.
- 11:41Speaker 3: It's kind of like producing a car, but the car.
- 11:47Speaker 3: When you produce a car like a high-end Jaguar or a Ferrari or a Lamborghini or a Corvette, when you're producing those, someone's designing it.
- 11:59Speaker 3: They're doing things.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Now, there's a lot of stuff that we can do from that standpoint, but in the end there's an aspect of whiskey You've made it and then you give it over to the universe, god, mother Nature it's all about that and how that kind of happens.
- 12:21Speaker 3: So tonight we're going to go over that.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Anybody having, while I'm talking, having any questions, not a problem, let's get into it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: One of the cool experiences that you can have.
- 12:35Speaker 3: There's a lot of them.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Right now.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Ryan Lang is about to start to launch.
- 12:43Speaker 3: He's going to start distilling, but there's going to be tours and restaurants and everything down at Middle West in Columbus, ohio.
- 12:49Speaker 3: So all my Ohio friends, get ready for that, because that's going to be pretty cool and it is just in the next week or two.
- 12:58Speaker 3: The start of it is happening.
- 13:46Speaker 3: He's getting that on and then he'll start adding on the bells and whistles and that type of thing.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So get ready, ohio, because we are going to have a Kentucky bourbon experience like no other.
- 14:01Speaker 3: He's building a campus to make whiskey and bourbon and we did whiskey, I mean single malt.
- 14:09Speaker 3: He's got it all.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's there and it is the size.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I mean we are talking a 60 inch column, still 45 feet high, with right next to it room for another one.
- 14:23Speaker 3: So this is going to be something really cool and special and it's being designed so that you can interact with it and be a part of the process.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So John Blitz says artistry and alchemy.
- 14:38Speaker 3: These people are mad scientists in a good way.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Good Do me and good for you.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yep, it's like that's what it is Good for me and good for you and, really honestly, when you're talking about that, it's karma.
- 14:55Speaker 3: It's like when you get into the process with the people that are making it.
- 15:00Speaker 3: These people are about doing something.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I mean alchemy.
- 15:05Speaker 3: You could talk about alchemy.
- 15:06Speaker 3: You're basically taking something and you're doing things to it to make it into something different.
- 15:12Speaker 3: That's what alchemy is, and there's no doubt that taking grains like wheat, rye, corn and changing it into alcohol, using yeast and in the distilling process, definitely is a chemical altering kind of thing that it's completely different from what it started from.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So these experiences that I'm talking about is, let's just let the one of the cool experiences when you're talking is when you go to Louisville.
- 15:43Speaker 3: There is the Evan Williams experience and it is one I would highly recommend you are talking about.
- 15:50Speaker 3: They set they've set up a museum type sit, like when you go to the regular museum and you go into Old World Wisconsin or the Old World Street.
- 16:02Speaker 3: You know even different places.
- 16:06Speaker 3: They've set up Old World experiences like what it was at the turn you know in the 1700s and then the turn of the century and then in the 60s, that you walk through time through the streets of Louisville and it's really kind of cool.
- 16:24Speaker 3: But you start off, you get a video and they tell you about Evan Williams.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Evan Williams was in charge of the.
- 16:34Speaker 3: He was the I want to say it was the quartermaster or there's a certain term for him because he was in charge of keeping track of people and the shipping area on the river, because this is where the falls and the rapids are.
- 16:52Speaker 3: So people would take their cargo off above the falls, take it off and then put it back in below the falls and there was a charge for that, there was a tax for that, and they kind of go over the meetings how Evan Williams basically brought good bourbon to the meetings, even though these men weren't were respectable individuals and part of it.
- 17:17Speaker 3: But because he was bringing good, making his own good bourbon, he was able to run those you know, run that business for everybody with the shipping of whiskey down the Mississippi in a very unique but fair way.
- 17:40Speaker 3: He was a good man.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So they go through that and then they go.
- 17:44Speaker 3: You get to walk through George Washington's first still down in I believe it's in Virginia, and they show you that.
- 17:54Speaker 3: They show you a little bit.
- 17:55Speaker 3: It's kind of a still that is through a large, you know, a real-life diorama with the fire.
- 18:01Speaker 3: You know a lighted fire underneath.
- 18:04Speaker 3: You get the feel of it.
- 18:05Speaker 3: And then you're into, you're on the banks of the Ohio River and you get a interactive movie with Evan Williams, you know, conducting business right on the river.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I mean it's really kind of cool.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Then they take you into the distiller, you know through and let you see their distillery, which is making one barrel a day.
- 18:31Speaker 3: It's called Square Six, it's been ready, they age it and that distillery is separate then from the Evan, you know, from the Heaven Hill distillery in Louisville, or it's separate, going to be, from the Heaven Hill distillery that's in Bardstown, that's being produced right now.
- 18:47Speaker 3: And then you finish up walking through the old world stores and you know of Louisville, and then they put you in for a tasting experience in one of these bars, whether it be different time periods, and you do the tasting and it's really a cool overall experience.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I mean one of the coolest as far as what would you say presentation, as far as interaction with what you're going through.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Just, you're not just interacting with a still or whatever.
- 19:21Speaker 3: This is a whole huge presentation and it is a really cool experience.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I definitely would advise anybody in Louisville.
- 19:31Speaker 3: If you ask me what you should do.
- 19:32Speaker 3: It's the Evan Williams experience.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Now all of this stuff with COVID got booking online and now that's starting to open back up for more.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So it was really rough for a while to book these experiences because they were still going on COVID numbers as far as who could participate and who was, you know, working and you know who you know.
- 19:58Speaker 3: They kept the numbers down, but I believe when we went to Buffalo Trace, our last tour, we were at 30 people.
- 20:05Speaker 3: When we were touring during, I believe, covid, you were looking at eight people a tour.
- 20:13Speaker 3: So now you can put 30 people a tour, even though that's still not enough.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I mean, if you want to try and book Buffalo Trace.
- 20:21Speaker 3: One unique thing about Buffalo Trace experience is that all of their tours are free.
- 20:26Speaker 3: They've got the hard hat tour, they've got the standard tour and then they've got they also have what would you say.
- 20:35Speaker 3: They have the EH Taylor archaeological tour.
- 20:43Speaker 3: It's basically you go and see where they're making EH Taylor, the way he made it, after they've dug up and once they found his fermenters and cookers, they're basically making whiskey with his corn strain and his mashbill and they're you know, and that's a really cool tour itself.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Those experiences at Buffalo Trace if you ever get, if you're going down, you want to go to Buffalo Trace one every day.
- 21:14Speaker 3: They're releasing some nice either Eagle, rare, eh, taylor, blanton's, weller Special Reserve sometimes Weller Special Reserve and Blanton's plus they've got the Wheatley vodka down there.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They've got a bunch of stuff in the gift shop and they their gift shop.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Honestly, folks, if you're in Frankfurt and let's say you're traveling and you've got to go to the bathroom, and normally you think of stopping at a gas station to go to bathroom, stop at Buffalo Trace, one of the top-of-the-line bathrooms that you'll ever go to, but also their gift shop is freaking amazing and just something to do.
- 21:52Speaker 3: If you're into bourbon, that's another thing I highly suggest.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Don't stop at gas stations for bathroom breaks.
- 22:00Speaker 3: If you're cruising through Kentucky or an area, stop at a distillery.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Distilleries always have clean, very clean and very well decorated cool bathrooms.
- 22:10Speaker 3: It's it's like they compete against each other.
- 22:12Speaker 3: So that's kind of a cool thing.
- 22:14Speaker 3: But those experiences are right.
- 22:16Speaker 3: So let's get into the, you know, not just your standard distillery tour experience.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Okay, we're talking about an experience that for one let's, let's.
- 22:28Speaker 3: There's a place right outside of Lexington called Bourbon 30.
- 22:32Speaker 3: It's J Maddingley and what they are is the Bourbon 30 as you go there and you can buy stuff off the shelf.
- 22:41Speaker 3: They really cool.
- 22:41Speaker 3: They do the little wax dipping the wax, but this one was scotchy bourbon boys always wants more.
- 22:50Speaker 3: It's a limited edition, private barrel select.
- 22:54Speaker 3: And what you do when you go there, it's a cool experience.
- 22:57Speaker 3: They've got MGP barrels, they've got Rye.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I believe they had eight Rye barrels and they had 10 bourbon barrels of MGP and you could sample all of them and then what they wanted you to do is make your own blend.
- 23:13Speaker 3: See what it's like to be a blender.
- 23:16Speaker 3: So you would go in there and you could, you know, sample all the things, mix them together.
- 23:23Speaker 3: They had little mixing containers with the thirds in it and whatnot.
- 23:28Speaker 3: You take a third here, you take this and you come up with your own blend.
- 23:33Speaker 3: This was me and Roxy's blend.
- 23:37Speaker 3: The experience was with the bottle, I believe around I want to say a hundred and fifty dollars, but to walk out with your, there's not very many places, one that you could thief a barrel and one barrel, let alone thief from ten different ones, taste each one, then thief out and mix them together till you get something you like.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Then you work it up at a larger scale.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Then, when you got that, you tell them what you want.
- 24:12Speaker 3: They go get it, they bottle it, they put the wax on, you put the label on and you walk out with your own blend of bourbon, and this is a very cool experience, unlike any other.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Like it says one of one, it's a pretty damn cool experience.
- 24:33Speaker 3: If you're a bourbon lover, this is a place to go.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Honestly, penelope, MGP blenders you know there's so many MGP blenders out there and you get to play MGP blender for you know two, three hours and come up with your own blend.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I think that's a cool experience, though, but and that really is something that when you're there and you're doing it, it gets you close to actually you know what, what actual jobs of, what people do and how they do it and how they come up with their blends.
- 25:13Speaker 3: So that was a really cool experience.
- 25:15Speaker 3: So we'll put that gun back there.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I have not opened this bottle now.
- 25:20Speaker 3: This is the other one.
- 25:22Speaker 3: This is knob Creek.
- 25:25Speaker 3: This, this is the, was the Jim beam tour that we took.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Now what we did is this is another bourbon experience, but we combined it with the scotchy bourbon boys.
- 25:35Speaker 3: The scotchy bourbon boys is this year.
- 25:38Speaker 3: There's still a couple tickets left, if, or anybody listening or watching.
- 25:42Speaker 3: We basically do a bus tour through the Kentucky bourbon boys.
- 25:48Speaker 3: We've got Roger.
- 25:49Speaker 3: He's our driver every year and he basically drives us around.
- 25:55Speaker 3: He is a scotchy bourbon boy, he was a scotchy bourbon boy and we book them every year.
- 26:01Speaker 3: This is our third annual and basically the bus tour.
- 26:04Speaker 3: This is an experience.
- 26:05Speaker 3: They take us to three different distilleries one and they pick us up at 830.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You can drink on the bus.
- 26:11Speaker 3: So the scotchy bourbon boys as a whole bring exquisite pours to share with whoever goes on this bus tour.
- 26:20Speaker 3: So one, you're gonna get some unbelievable bourbon.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Last year Nash opened decanter from the 70s, jim beam, that was so cherry.
- 26:34Speaker 3: We had a couple different CT brought a bunch.
- 26:39Speaker 3: We had a couple high-end water.
- 26:42Speaker 3: We had wild turkey master keep.
- 26:44Speaker 3: We had, I believe, the scotchy bourbon.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Now we also the scotchy bourbon boys, our actual whiskey that the whiskey, the official whiskey of the Scotchy Bourbon Boys, is Johnny Walker High Rye.
- 27:05Speaker 3: We just, we just loved it.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It used to be Johnny Walker Blue, we formed it, but it's Johnny Walker High Rye, so you'll be able to taste some of that.
- 27:13Speaker 3: You know the Johnny Walker High Rye.
- 27:14Speaker 3: We just bring all different types high-end Bourbons to drink in between each of the experiences.
- 27:23Speaker 3: So we started off with the toast at 8 30 in the morning and we headed off.
- 27:27Speaker 3: To where did we go?
- 27:29Speaker 3: We went off to Barge Town Bourbon Company, met Greg Schneider.
- 27:32Speaker 3: There, he gave us a tour and then he tasted through his line of one year.
- 27:40Speaker 3: He new make one year, I believe two and three years.
- 27:47Speaker 3: So we got to taste the evolution.
- 27:50Speaker 3: But what was unique about that this is this was that was the second one, but that's the third time he shared us that tasting and this year will be the fourth time and we will get to taste the four year, which is going to be pretty, it's going to be coming to be ready to be a part of.
- 28:06Speaker 3: You know, we'll be able to buy what we tasted when it was made.
- 28:12Speaker 3: So, with Greg Schneider doing that, and then taste Chicken Kok Whiskey.
- 28:16Speaker 3: And we did it in the Bat, barge Town Bourbon Company, in the Spirits Library, which was fantastic, it was unbelievable.
- 28:25Speaker 3: So, and then the second place we went.
- 28:30Speaker 3: We went to lunch and then we went to Jim Beam and had their tour, their new tour, their newly remodeled experience that they opened up last year, and this was a cool tour that finished with bottling your own.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Now Sandy Know, fred Know's wife came on the tour with us, and then you get to bottle your own and drop your own fingerprint onto the top.
- 28:55Speaker 3: So this one and then Sandy, so with that included, everything included.
- 29:00Speaker 3: But you did have to buy the bottle of Knob Creek.
- 29:02Speaker 3: That was extra when you walked out the gift shop.
- 29:06Speaker 3: But then at each place you can, you could shop in the gift shop.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I think Steve Nally and Nick Smith were in the gift shop at Bart's Home Bourbon Company and whatever bottle we were buying in the gift shop from Bart's Home Bourbon Company, they were signing, which was really freaking cool too.
- 29:21Speaker 3: And then we finished up at.
- 29:24Speaker 3: We finished up at let's, I gotta remember.
- 29:29Speaker 3: We were finished up at Lux Row and John Rempe.
- 29:32Speaker 3: We had a tour and a tasting there, which was cool at their tasting bar because they were able to handle.
- 29:38Speaker 3: We actually had two buses.
- 29:40Speaker 3: This year we're down to one again.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Last year we had two, but this year we're only booking one because of pricing and everything.
- 29:48Speaker 3: So we're at we, we, we need 14 people.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Right now.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I believe we tentatively almost have 10, so there's four tickets left, but there could be a, there could be openings, who knows?
- 30:03Speaker 3: But check that out.
- 30:05Speaker 3: It finished up there.
- 30:06Speaker 3: We went back, everybody got dropped back off at our Airbnb where their cars were and everything ordered some pizza, whatever.
- 30:13Speaker 3: That experience was phenomenal and it was extra because at both places well, at when we were at Jim Beam, we had Sandy Noon, so we got a little bit of extra stuff.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Every all the tour guys knew Sandy and they gave us an extra special tour there and along with Bart Sound, burbank Company and having Greg Schneider do what he did, that was an amazing experience that will happen again.
- 30:39Speaker 3: This year's experience will be Makers Mark lunch log still distillery, and back to Bart Sound, burbank Company to have Greg give us his fourth tasting.
- 30:49Speaker 3: So these are the really cool, cool kind of events that are out there.
- 30:55Speaker 3: So it's pretty.
- 30:58Speaker 3: It's a pretty cool thing.
- 30:59Speaker 3: I see Ross is watching.
- 31:02Speaker 3: That's really cool.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Maybe in the future hopefully, we can.
- 31:07Speaker 3: It's it's tough because he is the master distiller of Barton 1792 and that right now is closed off to the public.
- 31:17Speaker 3: We'd like to hopefully work some things out, that we podcast with Ross and get the word out what they're doing and all the exciting things that are happening with Barton 1792.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Then the other experiences we've we've got.
- 31:34Speaker 3: So I went over there.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I've got that experience.
- 31:36Speaker 3: This is a let's see.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 31:40Speaker 3: This is the Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 31:42Speaker 3: So we talk about festivals, that experience, talking about an amazing bourbon experience.
- 31:47Speaker 3: The Kentucky Bourbon Festival is three days this year.
- 31:49Speaker 3: They've got bourbon in the air then the night before the opening and you get to taste whiskey being poured by all the owners of the distilleries and the master distillers.
- 32:00Speaker 3: If there's.
- 32:01Speaker 3: It was one of the coolest experiences you can have.
- 32:04Speaker 3: You hang out with Brett Elliott.
- 32:06Speaker 3: He pours.
- 32:06Speaker 3: He poured us in 2021.
- 32:08Speaker 3: He poured us his, his Brent Elliott special release of Four Roses special edition 2021, and we got to taste last year on the podcast with Brent Elliott of the 2022.
- 32:25Speaker 3: So hopefully get a little bit of 2023 on the night of bourbon in the air.
- 32:30Speaker 3: And also you're gonna 52 distilleries tasting their whiskey at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 32:38Speaker 3: If you buy into the VIP package, you're talking about exquisite food, exquisite pours in the VIP t-shirts, glasses, clink, you know, flasks, you, things that, things that you walk away that are totally collectible from the year of that festival.
- 32:58Speaker 3: And then this year the distilleries also will be selling their single barrels, selects that they did with the Kentucky Bourbon Festival team, so all those bottles will be available, but also just the distillery, just like last year Heaven Hill really came through with their releasing of these private selects that they did.
- 33:20Speaker 3: So the distillery, the festival experience is a really cool thing because you get to meet master distillers.
- 33:29Speaker 3: You get to meet all the reps, all the people who work at the distilleries.
- 33:33Speaker 3: You run around and you can see them talking on stage.
- 33:36Speaker 3: They'll talk to you.
- 33:37Speaker 3: It's an overall really really cool festival that you really got to watch yourself, because you don't want to get too drunk at this thing, because the experiences are just happened one right after another.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So that's the Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Now there's other festivals, like there was the Bardstown Bourbon capital barbecue where they had a rib burn-off with competitions.
- 34:06Speaker 3: That happened at Log Still walked away with this awesome bottle of Knob Creek and then also at that experience, once again, the distilleries Greg Schneider was there.
- 34:18Speaker 3: We got to meet with the John and Michael from Lucky 7 people, seth was there from Broken Barrel, you know Jennifer, and the guy in Francesco was there with Luca Mariano along with Antonio Freeman.
- 34:38Speaker 3: So there you go there.
- 34:39Speaker 3: That was a unbelievable experience.
- 34:42Speaker 3: When Antonio Freeman was talking with me and got to that, he was a childhood or a young adult fantasy as far as how it worked with football and the Green Bay Packers and what, what, what Antonio did and meant for the state of Wisconsin for winning that Super Bowl with Brett Barved.
- 35:04Speaker 3: So really kind of cool experiences there.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Those are the festival experiences.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Now there are exceptional experiences, like at Jim Beam, where you got to go into the Rick House, got the tour, go on the bus, go in the Rick House, the from a barrel with the.
- 35:24Speaker 3: It was the production manager of the Fred of the Booker no distillery now, but then we had lunch with Fred and Freddie and I had already met them at Kentucky Bourbon Festival in 2019, but they signed your bottles.
- 35:41Speaker 3: I got a bottle of Knob Creek signed by Fred and Freddie and then also this double oak signed by Fred and Freddie and got to have lunch with them and they told stories and it was really kind of a cool thing.
- 35:52Speaker 3: So that type of thing through a distillery those are available.
- 35:56Speaker 3: I was checking today.
- 35:57Speaker 3: There still are one of a kind experiences with Fred and Freddie as far as dinners or lunches.
- 36:05Speaker 3: You just got to check the website, check Jim Beams website.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I was on the website of Makersmark today and Makersmark offers their wood.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I mean it was pricey I believe was 225 and but you got to go in and have an experience and experiment with, see how they do their staving.
- 36:27Speaker 3: You got to do a tasting of special Makersmarks, I mean in a dinner.
- 36:34Speaker 3: I mean the whole thing, the experience.
- 36:35Speaker 3: And you, you're thieving from barrels.
- 36:38Speaker 3: This is the kind of thing that you know I strongly suggest, especially if Makersmark is one of your, your favorite bourbons or whatever your favorite bourbon is.
- 36:51Speaker 3: So then there's the whiskey thief experience.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Whiskey thief is right outside of Frankfurt, it's right.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Next, oh, it's well, you've got whiskey thief, castle and key buffalo trace and, I believe, glen's Creek, all within like 15 minutes of each other.
- 37:16Speaker 3: So it's a really kind of a cool thing.
- 37:18Speaker 3: But whiskey thief this is a unique experience.
- 37:21Speaker 3: You take a tour I believe it's 20 or $25.
- 37:25Speaker 3: You basically, on the tour, get to taste from five different barrels.
- 37:33Speaker 3: You've got your host thieving right from the barrel and giving you samples of each barrel.
- 37:40Speaker 3: She or he will tell you the mash bill, the age, everything about that barrel, and you get to taste it if you like one and that's a good, that is part of it.
- 37:52Speaker 3: You're able to thief the barrel and the bottle, thief it yourself into the bottle and then they slap on a label and write down the proof and what you did.
- 38:06Speaker 3: And in this case you can see a hunter coffee signed my bottle right there and it was a little thanks from Walter and zoush, the owner.
- 38:18Speaker 3: So this was a really cool experience.
- 38:23Speaker 3: We really we got to meet Hannah that time too.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Hannah does the thieving amazing girl and you walk out with a bottle that you thief from a barrel there, so you don't have to go like on a barrel pick, and we'll talk about that as an experience coming up now.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Also, there's places like Mikters.
- 38:46Speaker 3: If you look back I believe yep, right here, right back here, you can see it, it's the Mikters, that was the same as this Bernheim.
- 38:58Speaker 3: There's bourbon.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Your your way at heaven hill and what you do there is they give you a little class.
- 39:05Speaker 3: They let you taste three to four different bourbons, depending on how many are out there, and they're just batches at barrel strength.
- 39:16Speaker 3: They take ten barrels, batch them and they've got them there for you to go through and taste.
- 39:22Speaker 3: You, if you pick one in this experience, you get to bottle it yourself, you get to go in you whatever it is, you push it, you set the, you wash the bottle, you dry the bottle.
- 39:40Speaker 3: You basically then put the bottle into the bottling machine, preload it, load it, corket, label it, seal it.
- 39:50Speaker 3: So you get to do the whole experience with that.
- 39:55Speaker 3: I believe right now I've done this twice and my wife has done this once, and we've got a Bernheim, we've got Larson e and we've got Elijah Craig.
- 40:07Speaker 3: All barrel strength, all really cool experience, I mean.
- 40:10Speaker 3: And then you get to do that with the one of the guides but some, some people are lucky enough to do with Bernie lovers or you know, and he'll come in and whatever and do it and talk to your group.
- 40:21Speaker 3: So that's a really cool experience at heaven hill.
- 40:26Speaker 3: And then the other one at Mikters.
- 40:28Speaker 3: That is crazy, that one is crazy right up there.
- 40:32Speaker 3: That bottle is unique.
- 40:35Speaker 3: They don't, it's not quite the same, it's from one barrel, it's not a batch, and they're tapped in and they basically let you bottle your own and then you put the label on and then they seal it.
- 40:48Speaker 3: But that is a, I believe, a barrel.
- 40:51Speaker 3: That is a barrel strength bourbon and it's not something that is for sale very often.
- 40:58Speaker 3: I mean the barrels you know you got.
- 41:01Speaker 3: It's just a really cool thing.
- 41:04Speaker 3: You get the tour.
- 41:05Speaker 3: They tell you about how they go about doing everything, what they you know how how they distill.
- 41:13Speaker 3: We got it.
- 41:13Speaker 3: You know because we were a podcast.
- 41:16Speaker 3: We got to podcast with Dan McKee, their master distiller.
- 41:19Speaker 3: He took us on a tour of their not open to the public distillery and then we went to Fort Nelson.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Now when you go to Fort Nelson, that distillery on whiskey row, which is right next to the start of the Kentucky bourbon trail, is fantastic.
- 41:36Speaker 3: I recommend that experience.
- 41:38Speaker 3: You go upstairs to that bar.
- 41:40Speaker 3: You can taste anything.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Any of their stuff is available at the bar and then they basically you kind of up there hang out with your friends.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Then you go on your tour.
- 41:51Speaker 3: You keep bottle your own really nice gift shop super experience for going.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Mikters really did.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Did everything right, I believe that.
- 42:03Speaker 3: And then so we were at it's so strange on experiences, but we went on our way home.
- 42:15Speaker 3: We went down this past weekend and hung out with Sandy Noe, she is the Kentucky Bourbon Festival's Bourbon Queen Super awesome woman.
- 42:27Speaker 3: We had lunch with her at the kitchen table at Jim Beam and then we went and checked out Lincoln's birthplace, which was really cool.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Got to see a part of Kentucky that we usually don't see when we go down there for a Bourbon experience.
- 42:42Speaker 3: So this was more friendship experience touring Kentucky, so it was a Kentucky experience and it was fantastic.
- 42:50Speaker 3: So on the way home we stopped off at Kentucky Artesian Distillery and they make Jefferson's Oceans and they have just released their number 29 and this is another thing what you could find.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Okay, so we're from Ohio.
- 43:08Speaker 3: This is not released in Ohio yet and it's just been released and they're selling it at the distillery.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Hasn't made it up to Ohio and a lot of shelves, but we got to, on the tasting, get a little taste of it and this was absolutely pancakes with butter and syrup.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I mean, holy crap, was this a freaking, really good oceans bottle?
- 43:36Speaker 3: So you get the experience of when you go do a tour and a tasting, of sometimes tasting what the distillery is releasing at the moment.
- 43:47Speaker 3: You know, that's the kind of cool thing that I really enjoy or find the find that experience to be, you know, super awesome.
- 43:59Speaker 3: I mean, these experiences actually make you start to like whiskey and bourbon even more.
- 44:09Speaker 3: One, I'll tell you this the experience is you get to meet some damn good people.
- 44:14Speaker 3: We've met so many people.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I've gotten so many friends out of this experience.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And then when you're drinking and you're in a good mood and you're happy, it's kind of like think about the bourbon is gonna taste better.
- 44:31Speaker 3: It just is.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I don't care what you say.
- 44:35Speaker 3: The one experience that I do try and pull you know from, from this and I really find it kind of cool is I got this from my wife for my birthday.
- 44:50Speaker 3: It is a copper thief and realistically, I mean, when you think about this, it's just oh my gosh, where is it?
- 45:01Speaker 3: All inboxes, current Cancel.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Alright, let's do this little Stevo Alabama song there, it is Alright, yep, okay.
- 45:13Speaker 3: So this right here allows me.
- 45:18Speaker 3: It's a copper thief, it's how you get whiskey out the barrel.
- 45:22Speaker 3: It has allowed me to have some fantastic, fantastic bourbon experiences.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Putting this into whiskey barrel and pulling what is in this, what is in that whiskey barrel, out at the temperature of the Rick House is really kind of a cool experience, and so I know Bargstown Bourbon Company on their experiences offer that you can thief from a barrel, and so drinking whiskey straight from a barrel is an experience that, if you haven't had it, you need to because, honestly, in my humble opinion is, if you don't, you don't know what the distiller was tasting when he thought whiskey is ready.
- 46:26Speaker 3: This is why Booker offered Booker's unfiltered.
- 46:30Speaker 3: You got Char in there.
- 46:33Speaker 3: They don't cold filter it because if it gets cold it'll get cloudy.
- 46:37Speaker 3: There's a lot of stuff about Booker's that is really kind of cool and I really find that.
- 46:45Speaker 3: You know he wanted you to have that experience of what whiskey tasted like right out of the barrel.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Well, this allows you to have the experience by taking it right out of the barrel all by yourself.
- 46:57Speaker 3: So I mean that experience.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I'm just telling you some of the best whiskey I've ever had is when I've been with master distillers or people who make the distiller making the whiskey and then tasting it with them in their rickhouse or in there with it out of straight out of their barrels.
- 47:17Speaker 3: It doesn't get much better than that.
- 47:20Speaker 3: So that's how I wanted to finish up the podcast tonight.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Thanks everybody for joining me.
