- 0:23Speaker 2: Yes, thank you.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Welcome back to the episode of mixt Comedy Podcast. I'm
- 0:28Speaker 3: one half of the show. This is Jamison to my Louise, Louise,
- 0:31Speaker 3: what's going on?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Man?
- 0:32Speaker 4: Oh, Jamison, very very happy to be back here for
- 0:35Speaker 4: episode forty seven. We're in June, happy Pride month to everybody.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Summer's in full swing. It's hot as hell here in Arizona.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I don't know about you in Vegas, but.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's getting there. It's not.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It ain't like one hundred and ten yet, but it's
- 0:50Speaker 3: getting there, to the point where the morning is starting
- 0:53Speaker 3: to be a lot hotter than they were like two
- 0:55Speaker 3: weeks ago. The mornings like in the sixties, nah and
- 0:58Speaker 3: out in the high eighties, early nineties and rising, and
- 1:02Speaker 3: then it's getting a hot, a lot quicker. It's staying
- 1:04Speaker 3: warmer longer, part of the day. So this is that time.
- 1:07Speaker 3: You know, we live in the Southwest, this is what
- 1:09Speaker 3: you you know, you're accustomed to. But it's all good.
- 1:11Speaker 3: It's a good time of year.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just not looking forward to the days when
- 1:14Speaker 4: I'm walking home from the bar at two and it's
- 1:17Speaker 4: still hot as hell. But but yeah, you know what,
- 1:21Speaker 4: we got a lot to talk about. Actually, June is
- 1:22Speaker 4: a really good month though, because we have Van Rodriguez
- 1:26Speaker 4: returning to fight Antonio Vargas, who is not Fernando Vargas's
- 1:30Speaker 4: son by the way, So there's three Vargas suns, and
- 1:34Speaker 4: there's another guy named Antonio that's not related. We're also
- 1:38Speaker 4: going to see the return of Boots Ennis fighting Xanders Ayas.
- 1:42Speaker 4: So you know, I'm pretty excited about what got going on.
- 1:44Speaker 4: But let's start with what happened this past weekend. So
- 1:48Speaker 4: Dimitri Bevo returned, fought Michael Effort, pretty standard fight for
- 1:54Speaker 4: a guy that was a mandatory not a lot of
- 1:56Speaker 4: fights in his career. Bev All just kind of really
- 1:59Speaker 4: just was pretty pretty dominant early right one knockdown. I
- 2:05Speaker 4: don't know this, he had surgery and it came back.
- 2:07Speaker 4: This doesn't really seem like any that it speaks to
- 2:10Speaker 4: anything about what Bevo looks like. It's kind of a
- 2:12Speaker 4: tune up fight, kind of easy does It really doesn't
- 2:16Speaker 4: really tell me what BiVO is going to be going forward.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I don't know about you. He's just kind of like, Hey,
- 2:22Speaker 4: he wanted to a fight that look pretty easy, and
- 2:24Speaker 4: let's see what happens next. Uh oh, I kind of
- 2:27Speaker 4: say that to say this, I didn't really much care.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I just want to see if he's gonna fight Benavita dament.
- 2:32Speaker 4: That's what I really want to know.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yes, So basically in the situation is this With that
- 2:38Speaker 3: being said, it's a tuna fight, and it looked like
- 2:41Speaker 3: a tune up fight. It wasn't nothing, you know, it
- 2:44Speaker 3: wasn't anything anything crazy. Like as long as tune up
- 2:48Speaker 3: fights go away as supposed to, we're all good. But also,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like you said, we can't have any opponents for Benavidez,
- 2:55Speaker 3: you know, go out or like we we can't have
- 2:56Speaker 3: anything risking those future fights because it's a whole lot
- 2:59Speaker 3: of the future fights with So that's what's going on.
- 3:02Speaker 4: That's the situation, And everybody is entitled to a tune
- 3:06Speaker 4: up fight, you know. That's not a thing. Of course,
- 3:08Speaker 4: everybody always already bitching, like, oh people's fighting nobody. Oh
- 3:12Speaker 4: he's you know, he's lost the ball ba Like man,
- 3:14Speaker 4: it that's okay, you know, as long as you get
- 3:16Speaker 4: to see the biggest thing is to get people in
- 3:18Speaker 4: the ring more often and see their faces and get
- 3:20Speaker 4: their names out there. Especially him haven't been out with
- 3:23Speaker 4: a with a surgery. So uh, everybody gets tune up
- 3:27Speaker 4: to fights. And yeah, if if somebody loses a tune
- 3:30Speaker 4: up fight and it's a huge upset, they're not gonna lose,
- 3:32Speaker 4: then it's a problem that it's something to to talk about.
- 3:36Speaker 3: People got to realize, like we come from the era
- 3:39Speaker 3: where's a tune up fights, Like that's that's the norm.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Because here's the thing you gotta realize, tune up fights
- 3:45Speaker 3: is what makes your your record. Like you not every
- 3:48Speaker 3: fighting will be a problem time fight tune up fights.
- 3:50Speaker 3: A big part of it is getting your reputation out there,
- 3:53Speaker 3: getting your earnings up there, getting your marketing out there.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That's what fights, and that's what boxing's about.
- 3:59Speaker 3: We've got to the point where if you're not fighting
- 4:01Speaker 3: for a belt, or if you're not fighting a pay
- 4:04Speaker 3: per view may event you looked at as being a loser,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and that's just not the case at.
- 4:07Speaker 4: All, not at all, not at all. Then another thing
- 4:11Speaker 4: that happened over the weekend as well. Oshaki Foster won
- 4:16Speaker 4: his fight against Raymond Ford pretty decisively. But the biggest
- 4:21Speaker 4: thing about that night that was interesting is Shaker Stephenson
- 4:26Speaker 4: got in his face, He got into the ring, got
- 4:28Speaker 4: to know Shaki Foster's face and said, let's do it.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Let's fucking fit. I think that was probably the most
- 4:33Speaker 4: exciting part of that other than the part of the
- 4:35Speaker 4: first round when Oshaki Foster literally threw old Boy out there. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 4: I don't know that. That one seemed like too dirty
- 4:44Speaker 4: to me. Usual. You know, you can make these arguments
- 4:47Speaker 4: about in the heat of the moment you're shoving someone
- 4:50Speaker 4: out of the way to create space, which is a
- 4:51Speaker 4: thing you know, you can straight up just like shove
- 4:54Speaker 4: somebody if you need to in the middle of boxing.
- 4:58Speaker 4: But this looked very much like a grab him and
- 5:00Speaker 4: fling him at the ropes and yeah, he went out
- 5:04Speaker 4: w WE style. Another thing which we talked about Keishaw
- 5:08Speaker 4: and Davis's body slamming. Uh, you know, sorry, I forgot
- 5:13Speaker 4: I forgot who he fought a couple of weeks ago.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Already summer's making my brain much. But the problem, the
- 5:19Speaker 4: difference of this one is there was no point deduction
- 5:23Speaker 4: or anything like that correctly. So I don't know, does
- 5:26Speaker 4: that seem a little too dirty to you, Jamison, or
- 5:28Speaker 4: did it seem kind of just like shit happens.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Anything on natural and boxing is not cool because of
- 5:33Speaker 3: everything I had to play. You don't want somebody getting
- 5:35Speaker 3: hurt because something on Natural happened, whether it's light hit,
- 5:38Speaker 3: whether it's somebody get blow the belt orlet somebody picked
- 5:42Speaker 3: somebody up, and by there's so many risks that take
- 5:44Speaker 3: place something like that happens, you kind of want to
- 5:47Speaker 3: avoid it if you can.
- 5:48Speaker 2: That's kind of where I'm at with it.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's definitely a little too I guess
- 5:52Speaker 4: the word would be targeted the way he kind of
- 5:55Speaker 4: shoved him towards the ring the ropes. Actually it seemed
- 5:59Speaker 4: to be a targeted throw as opposed to you know,
- 6:01Speaker 4: the hell out of my way, get back, you know, shove, dodge,
- 6:05Speaker 4: even just like when somebody falls on top of somebody
- 6:08Speaker 4: excellently headbuts you can tell. I think I think if
- 6:11Speaker 4: you're watching a box you can kind of tell what
- 6:13Speaker 4: it's an accident that was, that was a little shitty
- 6:16Speaker 4: that was that was that was a shitty move, I
- 6:18Speaker 4: think so.
- 6:18Speaker 3: So in definitely matters. So that's why you have to
- 6:21Speaker 3: be watching. You can't just be like going viral light.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Nine times out of ten, you can see the intent
- 6:29Speaker 3: of stuff because a lot of times when somebody gets
- 6:31Speaker 3: tangled up, you can see one boxer trying to sell
- 6:34Speaker 3: the foul. Kind of can you do one other sports
- 6:37Speaker 3: and you gotta kind of nah, that ain't it. So
- 6:38Speaker 3: that's why you got to have experienced referees or good referees.
- 6:42Speaker 3: They able to decide for what's going on.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair. And even though you know, I don't
- 6:47Speaker 4: really care about other sports, I do know what selling
- 6:49Speaker 4: a foul is. Like we all know, Like you just
- 6:52Speaker 4: watch any other sports at a bar casually, you can
- 6:55Speaker 4: tell when somebody is like rolling on the ground, holder
- 6:58Speaker 4: there needs screaming, when it's just a little you know,
- 7:00Speaker 4: well it's it's not that deep, it's not that serious.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:04Speaker 4: But getting back to to what happened after the fight, Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 4: I mean, you know a Shaki Foster and Shakhar Stevenson
- 7:10Speaker 4: were uh shouting each other about how you know they
- 7:13Speaker 4: kicked each other's ass and sparring and how you know
- 7:16Speaker 4: one of them quit this and that, blah blah blah.
- 7:18Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, there's a possibility
- 7:21Speaker 4: that this could be sha course next fight at either
- 7:23Speaker 4: one thirty five or one based on Foster's performance, I
- 7:28Speaker 4: think you know it'd be it'd be a good one.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I don't know would you be excited about that? You know,
- 7:33Speaker 4: the whole range or seam maybe kind of disappeared into
- 7:36Speaker 4: the ether. What's what are your thoughts about it? And Shaki Foster?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, anytime Shakur is gonna be fighting, I'm definitely
- 7:43Speaker 3: here for gotta be more active.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Like he's active.
- 7:45Speaker 3: He's out there a lot, he's always at boxing matches,
- 7:48Speaker 3: he's always outside. But if he's gonna be fighting, it's
- 7:51Speaker 3: good for everyone. So no, no, without a doubt that
- 7:56Speaker 3: being said. In my opinion, when it comes to him,
- 8:02Speaker 3: I think he's a guy that can fight three times
- 8:04Speaker 3: a year. And I'm not saying fight three big fights
- 8:07Speaker 3: a year. I think he could be a guy. The
- 8:10Speaker 3: way he's in shape, he doesn't really get hurt a
- 8:12Speaker 3: lot I think he could be a three fight a
- 8:15Speaker 3: year guy. That may not be a part of his
- 8:17Speaker 3: camps plan, so I don't want to speak for him
- 8:20Speaker 3: or like that, but it feels like if he wanted to,
- 8:24Speaker 3: he could fight three times a year.
- 8:25Speaker 2: It really does.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And we need that because right now, we see guys
- 8:30Speaker 3: fight and then we just don't hear from him again,
- 8:32Speaker 3: or we don't see them again for a minute. So
- 8:35Speaker 3: it would be a refreshing sight to see him fight
- 8:37Speaker 3: multiple times a year like that. But it feels like
- 8:40Speaker 3: we're gonna get him twice a year going forward, and
- 8:42Speaker 3: that's okay too. But it's like a guy like that
- 8:44Speaker 3: that's still young and in shape like he is, he
- 8:47Speaker 3: can give us three fights in a year.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Well, and that seems to be everybody's kind of pattern.
- 8:53Speaker 4: These people that are active quote unquote active means two
- 8:56Speaker 4: fights a year, you know, And it's a kind of
- 8:59Speaker 4: a bummer that that's kind of the ceiling we've reached.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Of course, you know, I'm not getting in there, I'm
- 9:05Speaker 4: not getting my ass kicked, I'm not training as hard
- 9:07Speaker 4: as they are. But we are speaking about comparing to
- 9:11Speaker 4: back in the day when people would fight more often.
- 9:13Speaker 4: I mean I agree. I don't think two max a
- 9:17Speaker 4: year should be like the standard for high activity.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I do.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I appreciate the consistency, you know, I'm not barring injuries.
- 9:26Speaker 4: You know, Canelo fight swice year every year. So does now. Yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 4: in a way, so it's nice to know that as
- 9:32Speaker 4: long as something doesn't go wrong, we're gonna expect to
- 9:34Speaker 4: see him back and not going to go two years,
- 9:35Speaker 4: three years without seeing them. But I don't know. I
- 9:39Speaker 4: just feel like, especially when you can have tuna fights,
- 9:43Speaker 4: I'll put it to this way. I'd rather see Shakor
- 9:46Speaker 4: fight more often and fight lesser names that people don't
- 9:48Speaker 4: know than try to make every single fight a huge
- 9:51Speaker 4: mega match, right.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So I'm with you.
- 9:55Speaker 3: However, the powers that be to put the money up,
- 9:57Speaker 3: I don't know what they're is taking as part of
- 9:59Speaker 3: the issue we have with having non boxing people in
- 10:03Speaker 3: boxing business. When you have non boxing people in boxing business,
- 10:07Speaker 3: they don't quite get that every fight can't be a.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Prime time event.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Sometimes it's just a Friday night fight, which is fine
- 10:14Speaker 3: because Friday night fights build Saturday night made events, and
- 10:18Speaker 3: people don't quite get that.
- 10:19Speaker 2: They don't come from that, they don't understand that my
- 10:23Speaker 2: biggest thing. I'm with you.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I would love to see him fight a tune up
- 10:26Speaker 3: a year, fight one really big fight a year, and
- 10:29Speaker 3: then fight a one intermediate fight. But also at the
- 10:31Speaker 3: same time, I don't know how his body reacts to fights,
- 10:35Speaker 3: so he might be a guy that might take sixty
- 10:37Speaker 3: days for his body to recoup.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So that might be a little too tight with the windows.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But with all that being said, in general, we need
- 10:45Speaker 2: to see more guys fighting like Boots in. It should
- 10:48Speaker 2: not be like a once a year fighter. He should be.
- 10:51Speaker 3: He's too good of a fighter to only be fighting
- 10:54Speaker 3: as barely as he does. And it bothers me because
- 10:58Speaker 3: he talks a lot. Is Cam talks a lot. When
- 11:01Speaker 3: Chance Crawford's fired, he wanted to call it, call out him.
- 11:03Speaker 3: He's called everybody. But it's like, bro, you fight like
- 11:06Speaker 3: once a year and you don't do big numbers while
- 11:10Speaker 3: doing so.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So what are we talking about? Why it doesn't make
- 11:13Speaker 2: any sense?
- 11:14Speaker 3: My thing is this, if you fight multiple times a
- 11:16Speaker 3: year where you're always constantly in the conversation, you're constantly
- 11:19Speaker 3: getting better, constant people's minds, it changes perception. Right now,
- 11:24Speaker 3: he's just another guy, with all due respect he's just
- 11:26Speaker 3: another boxer that's a tender and that's it. But if
- 11:29Speaker 3: you fight most times a year, it changes everything, right, And.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Let's not forget that up and coming fighters, younger guys
- 11:38Speaker 4: they do fight three four times a year now, to
- 11:40Speaker 4: be fair, they do fight shorter matches. You know, there's
- 11:43Speaker 4: Summer eight, round summer six. And I can understand that
- 11:46Speaker 4: they coming more often, but I kind of just don't
- 11:49Speaker 4: like that. Once you're a known name, that means you
- 11:53Speaker 4: stop fighting his optata Like the bigger you are, the
- 11:55Speaker 4: less you fight. I think it's we're getting it backwards.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Y'all exactly, And that's that's why I can't run. I
- 12:02Speaker 3: can't mess with I can't roll with that. And I
- 12:05Speaker 3: get certain things right. If you're a megastar and you
- 12:09Speaker 3: fight twice a year on certain days, by.
- 12:11Speaker 2: All means that's fine. We don't have any of those
- 12:13Speaker 2: right now.
- 12:13Speaker 3: We don't have any megastars currently in their prime, so
- 12:17Speaker 3: that shouldn't be the case.
- 12:19Speaker 2: My thing is, this boxing is in a very odd
- 12:23Speaker 2: state right now.
- 12:24Speaker 3: There has to be someone being like, you know what,
- 12:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna be the face may not be the best person,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'm gonna be the most active person.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Somebody gotta take that mantle.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I don't know who's going to, but somebody's gonna have
- 12:34Speaker 3: to because right now there's too many open dates, there's
- 12:37Speaker 3: too many weekends without big fights. There's fight them every weekend,
- 12:41Speaker 3: but there's not enough big fights fights to where you're
- 12:44Speaker 3: gonna change old evening, change o Saturday or Sunday or Friday.
- 12:48Speaker 3: For that's the problem that we have, and I just
- 12:51Speaker 3: feel that a lot of these guys are just chilling.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But again, people who are making the decisions the money,
- 12:56Speaker 3: I don't know if they get it. And I think
- 12:58Speaker 3: that's a big problem. Like with all the respect to
- 13:01Speaker 3: Don King, Bob Aram, the de Bella's and all those
- 13:05Speaker 3: guys who were from an older era, they may not
- 13:08Speaker 3: have been the best business people, but they understood boxing,
- 13:10Speaker 3: so there's constantly fights on now. They may have done
- 13:13Speaker 3: other things that weren't good, but they understood that it
- 13:16Speaker 3: was beneficial to have a lot of fights going on
- 13:19Speaker 3: to keep guys active, and we've lost that going into
- 13:23Speaker 3: this era.
- 13:25Speaker 4: A couple of episodes ago, I talked about, you know
- 13:27Speaker 4: how exciting it was that we have a lot of
- 13:29Speaker 4: big names returning the summer. In last month in May.
- 13:32Speaker 4: This month, you know, uhsik piovol Bam, Rodriguez, et cetera.
- 13:36Speaker 4: But that's still.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:39Speaker 4: A couple of fights a month for the summer, which
- 13:42Speaker 4: is definitely not enough. And another thing that's interesting. I
- 13:44Speaker 4: looked up just to see what was coming up for
- 13:46Speaker 4: the summer the next few weeks. A lot of fights
- 13:49Speaker 4: in England. A lot of names I don't recognize as well,
- 13:51Speaker 4: but which means a lot of daytime fights because if
- 13:54Speaker 4: they're fighting, you know, out there, it's going to be
- 13:56Speaker 4: you know, ten to eleven in the morning our time, right,
- 13:59Speaker 4: and that's cool. And if i'm if I'm up and
- 14:02Speaker 4: not too hungoverall, if I'm up before one pm, which
- 14:04Speaker 4: is not a guarantee, I'll turn it on and check
- 14:07Speaker 4: them out. But that's that's just not what we're used to,
- 14:10Speaker 4: you know that.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, But here, you know, you got to go where
- 14:14Speaker 3: the demands at, and right now, overseas it feels like
- 14:17Speaker 3: that's where the demands at. We're having I can't remember
- 14:20Speaker 3: a time where we have more or just as much
- 14:23Speaker 3: overseas fights and fights we have here. That's what Every
- 14:26Speaker 3: other weekend, there's a fight starting, said one o'clock, two o'clock,
- 14:30Speaker 3: ten o'clock in the morning, there's a fight coming on
- 14:32Speaker 3: and it's like man like, but again like overseas is different,
- 14:37Speaker 3: the demands higher. A lot of guys who are all
- 14:41Speaker 3: from over there they don't like coming over here for
- 14:43Speaker 3: various reasons.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So I kind of get it.
- 14:45Speaker 3: But I just think right now, there are so many
- 14:48Speaker 3: things in Flux right now with the sport where we
- 14:50Speaker 3: kind of have to take what we can get because
- 14:53Speaker 3: we're trying to kind of rewrite the rule book in
- 14:55Speaker 3: a sense, or trying to figure out the new rules,
- 14:58Speaker 3: as I should say, and and everybody's kind of on
- 15:02Speaker 3: different pages, so getting everybody in the same page might
- 15:05Speaker 3: be impossible, so we kind.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Of have we can get at the moment.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and just to because you know, Dmitri view all
- 15:11Speaker 4: fought in Russia because he's from there, so that's understandable
- 15:14Speaker 4: hometown fight. You know, it was in the morning, early afternoon,
- 15:16Speaker 4: whatever it is. But yeah, with the Saudi money involved,
- 15:20Speaker 4: there's a lot of fights in Riod. You know, Usik
- 15:22Speaker 4: fought in Egypt, so it was in the morning, and
- 15:24Speaker 4: I missed the entire card and that seems to be
- 15:27Speaker 4: more the norm than well than ever before. For sure,
- 15:30Speaker 4: Like you said, there wasn't a time when overseas fights
- 15:33Speaker 4: were even on the same level as fights in Vegas
- 15:36Speaker 4: in New York, you know. And that's just the best,
- 15:41Speaker 4: just the new reality. But here's the thing, I can't
- 15:44Speaker 4: imagine that's going to be sustainable forever. I mean, boxing
- 15:49Speaker 4: isn't what it used to be, but it still has
- 15:51Speaker 4: its roots in Boxing is a Vegas sport, you know.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Boxing is a Madison Square Garden sport. Yes, and that's
- 15:58Speaker 4: something that to me, I might be the old head
- 16:00Speaker 4: who's just like you know, out of touch anymore or
- 16:03Speaker 4: out of touch now, but I don't think that's ever
- 16:05Speaker 4: changed in my mind. I don't think that's ever changed
- 16:07Speaker 4: in the eyes of like the the average boxing pen.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Right. So the venues don't change. The venues is gonna
- 16:12Speaker 3: be the venues no matter what New York, La Vegas.
- 16:16Speaker 3: You know they're gonna have you know, back east, all
- 16:19Speaker 3: Phillyes or all those are gonna be there. The issue
- 16:22Speaker 3: is this, you gotta have the fighters, the fire. We
- 16:24Speaker 3: gotta have fighters good enough the Phillos arenas right now,
- 16:27Speaker 3: there's a void for big time fights like the Benavidez
- 16:31Speaker 3: fight that was last month. It was it was cool.
- 16:35Speaker 3: It was cool, but it wasn't It didn't hit quite
- 16:38Speaker 3: the same. It wasn't quite the same as other events.
- 16:41Speaker 3: We gotta get back towards that, because here's the thing
- 16:44Speaker 3: you don't want. Obviously, we're both about forty years old.
- 16:48Speaker 3: So we've seen all these guys from de la Hoya
- 16:51Speaker 3: to Floyd to Canelo. We've seen Tyson, We've seen all
- 16:55Speaker 3: those weekends. How all that impacts there's a pressure on
- 16:58Speaker 3: holiday weekends when it comes to by that. I don't
- 17:01Speaker 3: know if anyone currently fighting could withstand. I don't know
- 17:05Speaker 3: if they can continue. That could be wrong, but as
- 17:08Speaker 3: of right now, I'm not so sold. That's it's a
- 17:10Speaker 3: major fight where both the poems are really good. That
- 17:14Speaker 3: wasn't always the case back in the day. You only
- 17:17Speaker 3: needed one guy one start a carry that weekend. Now,
- 17:20Speaker 3: I think too until further notice.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's the thing too that I'm okay with.
- 17:24Speaker 4: You know, if Canelo has synreed to MYO weekend and
- 17:27Speaker 4: Mexican deependency, it's been wrapped up for years now. Obviously
- 17:30Speaker 4: it's you know, there's injuries and he might be looking
- 17:33Speaker 4: at retirement, this and that. But it's fine if we
- 17:36Speaker 4: have a seque to MYO guy in a September guy,
- 17:38Speaker 4: like two different dudes, like that's even.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Junior a lot whatever. Like it has to be more guy.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I have to be more guys being able to put
- 17:46Speaker 3: a main event. I just don't see it right now.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the problem I'm saying. I would take it.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I don't need the one big name that carries the
- 17:54Speaker 4: you know, all the holidays. But yeah, we need like
- 17:57Speaker 4: another two or three that do have their wekend and
- 18:00Speaker 4: maybe even they consistently come back. You know, we set
- 18:03Speaker 4: at Bula Mason fighting July fourth. That should be a
- 18:06Speaker 4: big s boxing event every year. It could even be
- 18:11Speaker 4: just you know, Will Smith became the King of Fourth
- 18:13Speaker 4: of July and the nineties, What the hell can't Bula
- 18:15Speaker 4: Mason be the king of one of the July in boxing.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I'm telling you, the one day or everybody's chilling at
- 18:20Speaker 3: home with the TV's going on and they got the
- 18:22Speaker 3: projectors outside the whole nine, if you have multiple boxing
- 18:27Speaker 3: events that day, it would do very well because there's
- 18:29Speaker 3: not a whole lot on TV that day, and you're
- 18:32Speaker 3: gonna have people traveling in general. So they're coming to Vegas,
- 18:35Speaker 3: to New York, Chicago, wherever the fight's gonna be at.
- 18:39Speaker 3: People will tune in, people will watch, but you gotta
- 18:41Speaker 3: give them the opportunity at least.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Right, And another thing about the overseas fights. You know,
- 18:47Speaker 4: if if I don't mind if they double up when
- 18:49Speaker 4: they have two big matches here and overseas, because there's
- 18:52Speaker 4: been days when I turned on the TV morning, late morning,
- 18:56Speaker 4: early afternoon and watch somebody fighting in Saudi Arabia or
- 19:00Speaker 4: or England whatever, and then there's another big fight that
- 19:02Speaker 4: same night. I kind of love it. It's a full
- 19:04Speaker 4: day of boxing for you know, I'm like a pick
- 19:06Speaker 4: and shit. So that's cool. But it seems to be
- 19:09Speaker 4: just kind of haphazard, like I said, no real planning,
- 19:13Speaker 4: no real dedication to making the holiday of a day
- 19:17Speaker 4: of boxing, which kind of like I said, people are there,
- 19:19Speaker 4: they're just sitting at home.
- 19:21Speaker 3: It's wide open, like it's literally, it's literally it makes
- 19:25Speaker 3: too much sense not to happen. And you're not competing
- 19:28Speaker 3: with anything else either, you're not competing with football or
- 19:31Speaker 3: the NBA or anything else coming with baseball, And honestly,
- 19:37Speaker 3: baseball is not that big of a issue to you know,
- 19:40Speaker 3: to have to deal with. So with all that being said,
- 19:43Speaker 3: you know what, I personally think that there's a way
- 19:47Speaker 3: to really make a stamp on fourth of July. Whatever
- 19:52Speaker 3: city they have it is, Vegas, La, New York, whatever,
- 19:56Speaker 3: people would literally be like, oh shit, sometimes fight. Bet
- 20:00Speaker 3: we're gonna we're gonna have our old barbecue surround that fight.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So come through around this like those things that would happen,
- 20:06Speaker 3: and you make it a ritual where every Fourth July
- 20:09Speaker 3: there is multiple dope fights on. Yes, it would change
- 20:13Speaker 3: the sport tremendously and it would do very well because
- 20:17Speaker 3: there ain't nothing else on, Like there's just nothing on.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Like I know, people travel, so I get that part.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Most times when people travel, they're gonna be sitting somewhere
- 20:25Speaker 3: during that day. They're not traveling on July fourth. They're
- 20:29Speaker 3: usually traveling the day before or the day or two after,
- 20:32Speaker 3: but the actual holiday itself usually chilling somewhere.
- 20:35Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, And it's not like, you know, unless
- 20:37Speaker 4: you're going to somebody, I don't know, like Disneyland or
- 20:39Speaker 4: something like that. Most things are closed anyway. You know,
- 20:41Speaker 4: you get you get your ship, you you visit family
- 20:43Speaker 4: and you have everything purchased by the third agrille on
- 20:45Speaker 4: the fourth, et cetera, et cetera. Yeah, the same thing,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you know with any holiday. Nobody travels on Christmas.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Day, no, no, no, no, anyway.
- 20:55Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, we'll watch it. Some people do, and
- 20:57Speaker 4: I'm sure it's terrible, but the point is, yeah, I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 4: you're a holiday like that one specifically where you're chilling, drinking,
- 21:05Speaker 4: and especially this year when it's on a Saturday and
- 21:08Speaker 4: you can just sleep in the next day and not
- 21:10Speaker 4: have to worry about work. Right, it's it's it's got
- 21:14Speaker 4: it's got to be a thing. So you know, we're
- 21:15Speaker 4: we'll do our part. You know, we are the most
- 21:17Speaker 4: illustrious voices in boxing commentary. But we'll be doing promos
- 21:21Speaker 4: as well for the Abdulla Mason fight as be a closer.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Just at least you get the word out even for
- 21:25Speaker 4: somebody that even people that are casual boxing fans who
- 21:28Speaker 4: might not even know that that's happening. Like I've talked
- 21:30Speaker 4: to plenty of people that are like, not just with
- 21:33Speaker 4: this fight, but a bunch of other fights, are like,
- 21:34Speaker 4: oh right, yeah, this guy's fighting, that guy's fighting I'm like,
- 21:37Speaker 4: you enjoy the sport, How the hell do you not
- 21:39Speaker 4: know this right?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:41Speaker 4: But but it's that's a whole lot of the conversation
- 21:43Speaker 4: that we've had as well about promo, you know, the
- 21:46Speaker 4: the promo companies not getting the word out enough, but.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Over marketing, the marketing of the fights, the marketing.
- 21:54Speaker 3: I mean, the box has got to do their job
- 21:56Speaker 3: as well, but these promotion companies, these networks, they gotta
- 21:59Speaker 3: do about their job because there's too many times where
- 22:03Speaker 3: a fight's about to come on and it's like, oh
- 22:05Speaker 3: I forgot or oh let me go check it on.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Like that should never be the case. It should be like, hey, hey,
- 22:10Speaker 3: this fight comes on this time that or like the
- 22:13Speaker 3: thing is two, we don't know about these fighters anymore.
- 22:16Speaker 3: There's no twenty four to seven at all. Access, there's
- 22:19Speaker 3: no behind, there's nothing like you have through your own research.
- 22:23Speaker 3: And it's just not it feels like it's lazy. It
- 22:27Speaker 3: feels like it's very lazy. While the networks and by
- 22:30Speaker 3: the promotion companies. And that's where I feel that we
- 22:34Speaker 3: can use some improvement in those areas because we got
- 22:37Speaker 3: some guys that could buy that's a really good box.
- 22:39Speaker 3: We don't know nothing about them. Like James boots In,
- 22:41Speaker 3: it should be a lot bigger star than what he is,
- 22:45Speaker 3: but it's just a guy.
- 22:46Speaker 2: From Philly that fights occasionally.
- 22:48Speaker 3: And that's that. Like Keejon Davis is a guy we
- 22:52Speaker 3: know for the wrong reasons. You know, it's just not
- 22:55Speaker 3: it's not good enough. When I compare to other sports
- 22:58Speaker 3: and other things, young up and coming fighters or young
- 23:01Speaker 3: and upcoming athletes have a certain marketing behind them, a
- 23:05Speaker 3: certain push behind them, and we're not giving that with
- 23:08Speaker 3: these boxers.
- 23:09Speaker 4: All we got is their instcript counts. You have to
- 23:11Speaker 4: go fight.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Oh that in your Twitter, So everyb Bolue moves ahow
- 23:15Speaker 3: going to a Twitter rant. So like Javonte Davis is
- 23:18Speaker 3: big going back and forth with strangers on Twitter and
- 23:21Speaker 3: getting into it with him. And then Shakur is always
- 23:23Speaker 3: reading his own tweets because he'll pop off on somebody.
- 23:26Speaker 3: But that's really about it. There's nothing. We don't know
- 23:29Speaker 3: nothing about it. We have no idea what their life
- 23:31Speaker 3: is like outside of boxing. We have no clue what
- 23:34Speaker 3: their hobbies are. We have no clue what they're about.
- 23:36Speaker 3: We have no clue of what we know nothing like
- 23:40Speaker 3: for better for worse, we all knew what Floyd did
- 23:43Speaker 3: outside the ring or was doing outside the ring. We
- 23:46Speaker 3: all knew what Mike Tyson was doing outside the ring.
- 23:48Speaker 3: We had an idea, unfortunately, what Oscar Hoyle was going
- 23:51Speaker 3: outside the ring, for better for worse. These young we
- 23:55Speaker 3: have no idea unless they get in trouble. Like I
- 23:59Speaker 3: have no idea what tank was does outside of ring.
- 24:01Speaker 3: But he's got enough trouble to where I can assume
- 24:04Speaker 3: what he does. And those assumptions aren't great, but he's
- 24:06Speaker 3: done enough times where it's like, damn, he might have
- 24:09Speaker 3: a problem. So that's what I'm saying, Like, there's not enough.
- 24:12Speaker 3: The sport powers that be are not putting enough money
- 24:15Speaker 3: into the whole production. They're just giving the entree. They're
- 24:18Speaker 3: not giving me the sides. They're not giving you the beverage.
- 24:20Speaker 3: They're not giving you the dessert. They're giving you a
- 24:22Speaker 3: steak or a chicken or a fish and telling you
- 24:24Speaker 3: to be happy. And that ain't it?
- 24:27Speaker 4: Yeah, And I and we know that that's possible to,
- 24:31Speaker 4: you know, have more marketing production around or promo around
- 24:34Speaker 4: these fighters, because I know more about Canelo than I
- 24:36Speaker 4: ever cared to know. Not even bad things like I know,
- 24:38Speaker 4: I know his wife and his kids, and he's like,
- 24:40Speaker 4: oh for because they do these things before the fight,
- 24:42Speaker 4: they follow them around, you know, I see him at
- 24:45Speaker 4: that time. He got married a couple of years ago.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Like that was all. That ship was in the news
- 24:49Speaker 4: for like a month, and I was like, I don't care.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I want to know what his next fight is. And
- 24:54Speaker 4: they kept, you know, clips of him, you know, all
- 24:56Speaker 4: the celebrities at his wedding, you know, I and pretty fourth.
- 25:00Speaker 3: The twenty four to seven was the best thing that
- 25:04Speaker 3: ever happened to boxing for this generation when they had
- 25:06Speaker 3: all access in twenty four to seven, when they would
- 25:09Speaker 3: literally do all the big fights or even some of
- 25:11Speaker 3: the smaller fights, but they would literally you would get
- 25:14Speaker 3: to know the boxers. You'd get to see their training,
- 25:16Speaker 3: you'd get to know people around them, you would get
- 25:18Speaker 3: to know who they are because that's part of the story.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Like part of every event, whether it's a movie, whether
- 25:24Speaker 3: it's a book, whether it's a sporting event, it's more
- 25:27Speaker 3: than it's the event itself.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It's all the cast of characters. Remember Roberto Guerrero's dad,
- 25:33Speaker 2: Roxton Robert Groves.
- 25:34Speaker 3: When he fought Floyd, he was the crazy dude who's
- 25:37Speaker 3: talking crazy to Floyd and think they're fucking Stockton or
- 25:41Speaker 3: somewhere in the middle of California or northern California. He
- 25:45Speaker 3: was a character. He became a part of the fight.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Robert gre I believe it was. He became a part
- 25:51Speaker 3: of the fight because of we saw him for the
- 25:54Speaker 3: last four weeks being a character on All Access. I
- 25:57Speaker 3: believe it was at that time. Those are the things
- 25:59Speaker 3: that people don't understand. That's a part of box, that's
- 26:02Speaker 3: part of the event. The event itself was always gonna sell.
- 26:05Speaker 3: It was gonna be as part. But you gotta get
- 26:08Speaker 3: people that aren't cat that aren't serious boxing fans that
- 26:12Speaker 3: stumble upon your channel. But ah, this is interesting. Oh
- 26:15Speaker 3: you know what, I've been laughing for three weeks straight.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna tune in Saturday with the fight. You need
- 26:20Speaker 3: more of that. And right now we're just missing it.
- 26:22Speaker 3: We're whiffing at it.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Robert Carrera the Fighter, Reuben Guerrero the.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Dead, Yes, yep, yep, yeah, And that was a character
- 26:30Speaker 2: that was a character well and.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Again and now we're kind of waxing nostalgia. But you know,
- 26:34Speaker 4: all the HBO fights, you know, they had all their
- 26:37Speaker 4: little proba videos and before the fight, so a lot
- 26:41Speaker 4: of them. And here's the thing. I know they still
- 26:42Speaker 4: have that, but it's not as easily accessible as prominent
- 26:45Speaker 4: And I'll.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Do one better.
- 26:47Speaker 3: You can get a crew that can do it on
- 26:49Speaker 3: the cheap. Because of hell, you can record stuff off
- 26:52Speaker 3: your iPhone. Now that's the craziest part. I'm not saying
- 26:55Speaker 3: to do that, but you can literally record a movie,
- 26:59Speaker 3: a well lit, well producted movie, off your opposite of
- 27:03Speaker 3: the iPhone. So you can't say that, oh, it's so expensive,
- 27:07Speaker 3: blah blah blah. No, you can hire interns to do it. Like,
- 27:11Speaker 3: there's so much stuff and I'm not asking for Oscar
- 27:14Speaker 3: or Academy Award winning stuff. I'm not asking for that,
- 27:17Speaker 3: But you gotta give me some content to where like,
- 27:20Speaker 3: I know what's going on before the fight? Where's the
- 27:22Speaker 3: boxers head at? What are they trying to do? Are
- 27:24Speaker 3: they trying to be the best ever? Are they satisfied
- 27:26Speaker 3: with making some money and being out in five years?
- 27:28Speaker 3: Like we don't know nothing about these guys anymore. We
- 27:31Speaker 3: don't know anything until something happens. Back in the day,
- 27:34Speaker 3: you're like, oh okay, Like you see what's going on. You
- 27:36Speaker 3: see what, you know, how the boxer is moving, you
- 27:38Speaker 3: see see everything. You see the people around them, you
- 27:40Speaker 3: see the Tennesse's as you see the lack of this
- 27:44Speaker 3: or something. You see the lack of that, and you're like, oh,
- 27:46Speaker 3: there's something like for instance, Adrian Browner had a lot
- 27:49Speaker 3: of red flags around him, and all them shits came true,
- 27:53Speaker 3: you know, but we wouldn't have known that without twenty
- 27:56Speaker 3: four to seven, without all access. You know, certain things
- 27:59Speaker 3: you look like, ah, okay, this is interesting. You know,
- 28:03Speaker 3: Terrence Crawford, way back before he was the guy he
- 28:06Speaker 3: is now, he was a hell of a boxer, But
- 28:08Speaker 3: we didn't know about his family stuff until ESPN Friday
- 28:12Speaker 3: Night Fights had his stuff, had his family history on,
- 28:16Speaker 3: you know, before the fights.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Day before the fight.
- 28:19Speaker 3: They there's stuff to him and his mom that I'm
- 28:21Speaker 3: not gonna beee here, but it was kind of scary.
- 28:23Speaker 3: His mom basically was very mean to him, to say
- 28:26Speaker 3: it lightly. So those are things we wouldn't know if
- 28:30Speaker 3: it's not done. But it's a part of the sports,
- 28:32Speaker 3: part of the game, and you got to have that
- 28:34Speaker 3: and right now I think we're severely lacking that. And
- 28:38Speaker 3: I don't know ever get back to it, but they
- 28:40Speaker 3: definitely need to because these aren't household names right now.
- 28:43Speaker 2: We got really comfortable from.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Going from the Tyson to the De la Hoyas to
- 28:49Speaker 3: the Floyd's to the Canelos. We've gotten very comfortable for
- 28:52Speaker 3: that thirty year stretch. We don't have that no more.
- 28:55Speaker 3: We got guys that are talented, but they're not household
- 28:57Speaker 3: names anymore.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Agree, And there's really no excuse when you know, like
- 29:02Speaker 4: you said, not just with interns recording promo videos, but
- 29:05Speaker 4: TikTok people on TikTok, you know, recording these awesome videos, influencers.
- 29:08Speaker 4: They used the damn medaglasses to make really great commercials
- 29:12Speaker 4: for local restaurants and shit like that. You know, we're
- 29:14Speaker 4: again you're leaving money on the table, guys.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Yes, yes, And you have to organically grow your sport.
- 29:22Speaker 3: You have to organically grow your your products.
- 29:26Speaker 2: You have to. There's no shortcuts about it. There's no
- 29:28Speaker 2: other way.
- 29:29Speaker 3: You have to market your own, guys, because if you
- 29:32Speaker 3: don't know, one else will, There is no There is
- 29:34Speaker 3: no contract with ESPN, there is no contract with HBO,
- 29:37Speaker 3: So you're gonna have to get out the mud.
- 29:39Speaker 2: It's not thirty five forty years like you have to
- 29:42Speaker 2: do it yourself.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Until that takes place, we're going to keep on going
- 29:45Speaker 3: over the same old thing because right now, what it
- 29:48Speaker 3: feels like is that we have a couple of big
- 29:50Speaker 3: money people that are cool at putting up the fights
- 29:53Speaker 3: so they can look important at these fight events, but
- 29:55Speaker 3: we don't show anything else. Like I said, we're getting
- 29:58Speaker 3: the entree, We're not getting any of the sides, not
- 30:01Speaker 3: getting any of the beverages, not get any of the deserts. Hell,
- 30:04Speaker 3: we're not gonna get into the utensils. And that's not good. Like,
- 30:08Speaker 3: that's not a good situation. Until that improves, I think
- 30:11Speaker 3: we're gonna be going through the same old thing because,
- 30:14Speaker 3: to be honest with you, all we hear about is
- 30:16Speaker 3: the big, big super fights. How can we make this
- 30:19Speaker 3: big fight somewhere. That's all we hear about now, And
- 30:21Speaker 3: I'm not a fan of it.
- 30:23Speaker 4: That's fair, Yeah, definitely, There's there's a lot to be
- 30:26Speaker 4: desired about the modern about trying to create stars in
- 30:31Speaker 4: the modern boxing world, and it's got to change.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Man.
- 30:33Speaker 4: This the sport is already hurting enough that we can't
- 30:35Speaker 4: live like this, right So speaking of stars, and you know,
- 30:39Speaker 4: bringing up Canelo. Interestingly enough, he had an interview where
- 30:42Speaker 4: he said Jimen Munia should be the next face of
- 30:45Speaker 4: boxing and his successor, which you know, I respect him, Gia.
- 30:49Speaker 4: He's very talented. He definitely had a great outing on
- 30:52Speaker 4: Sincu Demyo. But I don't see it. You know, he's
- 30:55Speaker 4: he's a young, talented, good looking guy, but there is
- 30:58Speaker 4: something about him that he's just kind of not whether
- 31:00Speaker 4: the same thing not out there enough, you know, I
- 31:04Speaker 4: know more. And it's also very interesting that Canela specifically
- 31:07Speaker 4: didn't mention David Benavidez. But that's neither here nor there. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 31:12Speaker 4: we know, we know it's gone off with that, but no,
- 31:14Speaker 4: I mean the same kind of the same thing. I've
- 31:15Speaker 4: seen more interviews with David Benavidez, and yes, it hits
- 31:18Speaker 4: my algorithm more because I'm in Arizona, so blah blah blah.
- 31:21Speaker 4: But you know, I know about his family life. I
- 31:22Speaker 4: know that he used to you know, he's just got
- 31:24Speaker 4: baptized religious, he was a heavy drinker, all that stuff.
- 31:27Speaker 4: So that seems like it's kind of a part and
- 31:31Speaker 4: parcel of what we're saying is that Benavidez seems to
- 31:34Speaker 4: be have good promotion behind him putting himself out there.
- 31:37Speaker 4: But Haima Mangia as as great of a job as
- 31:40Speaker 4: he did on Sinker Tomayo, he hasn't really shown a
- 31:44Speaker 4: big performances, uh, you know, big big drama shows at
- 31:48Speaker 4: his fights, so to speak. And I'm like, man, I
- 31:51Speaker 4: don't know. I mean, I I appreciate the Canelo supports him,
- 31:54Speaker 4: and you know he's with the Raino So camp, so
- 31:56Speaker 4: he's one of his stable mates and all. But he
- 32:00Speaker 4: I'm saying that, I'm not even saying it to be
- 32:02Speaker 4: disrespect to Heimen Mogia. It just sort of shows how
- 32:07Speaker 4: much more obvious it was that he's shutting out David Benavidez.
- 32:12Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. It kind of really brings
- 32:15Speaker 4: that into the forefront more. I'm like, I don't know, man,
- 32:18Speaker 4: I've got you support your guy, But I think Jesse
- 32:20Speaker 4: Bead Rodriguez would be more likely to be the next
- 32:22Speaker 4: face of boxing than Jimen Moga that.
- 32:24Speaker 3: But also here's the thing. To be the face of boxing, one,
- 32:28Speaker 3: you got to be very good. You got to be
- 32:30Speaker 3: exceptionally good. It can't be kind of good. You can't
- 32:33Speaker 3: be on the ver like, you gotta be really good.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I think that's the first thing we all forget about.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Over the last since we've been alive, all the faces
- 32:41Speaker 3: of boxing have been exceptionally good. They've been very fucking good,
- 32:45Speaker 3: excuse my language. Also, they've been somewhat marketable one way
- 32:49Speaker 3: or another. They've been very marketable fast. The problem I
- 32:52Speaker 3: have right now with anyone in that conversation is, how
- 32:56Speaker 3: can you make all the top ten, all the P
- 32:59Speaker 3: for P two top ten guys? How do you make remarkable?
- 33:02Speaker 3: Especially with a couple of doman fight here or I
- 33:05Speaker 3: barely fight here.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Like that's a big, big thing.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Again, I'm not saying it's impossible, but when we think
- 33:12Speaker 3: about face of the sport, it's more than just boxing ability.
- 33:16Speaker 3: It's a lot of things. And right now I can
- 33:19Speaker 3: we can talk about this to a blue in the face.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I don't know who that next thing. I don't know
- 33:22Speaker 3: who that is. I really don't. I mean, Canel's on
- 33:25Speaker 3: the way out, Crawford's gone. We got a guy that
- 33:29Speaker 3: fights in Asia every six months. It feels like, oh yeah,
- 33:35Speaker 3: he's like, I mean, there's reports of him fighting later
- 33:38Speaker 3: this year. But I don't know how to how to
- 33:41Speaker 3: take those seriously because you can't take him seriously. I
- 33:45Speaker 3: just don't know, Like I honestly, I couldn't put a
- 33:49Speaker 3: bet on it right now if I had to.
- 33:51Speaker 2: That's the thing. I couldn't even say, Hey, you know
- 33:53Speaker 2: what this guy's be in the next face.
- 33:55Speaker 3: If I had to choose, it'd probably be Benefitez, but
- 33:59Speaker 3: only be because he's young enough and the way he fights.
- 34:03Speaker 3: I can see him fighting more and more and becoming
- 34:06Speaker 3: a guy that's that draws cavs people in. The Only
- 34:09Speaker 3: issue is there's not a lot of big, big fights
- 34:11Speaker 3: for him because of where where he weighs and where
- 34:14Speaker 3: he's trying to fight at, So that's to be a concern.
- 34:16Speaker 2: But other than that, I don't know. I don't know.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I truly don't know well.
- 34:20Speaker 4: And another thing, barring Floyd Mayweather, you know, the big
- 34:24Speaker 4: faces of boxing have always been knockout guys. You know
- 34:27Speaker 4: was better better known for his technical skill and cer
- 34:31Speaker 4: surgical with his pungs and all that. But talking about
- 34:33Speaker 4: a Canelo a Tyson, you know, many Pacquiao like those
- 34:36Speaker 4: were ass kicking knockout guys betavitas as well, and there
- 34:42Speaker 4: is something to be said. I've and I've said before
- 34:44Speaker 4: you know that I don't love boxing just because of
- 34:47Speaker 4: the knockouts, and I think fans shouldn't just be looking
- 34:50Speaker 4: for that. You know, the technical aspects are awesome to me.
- 34:52Speaker 4: I just love I love watching fights, but but at
- 34:55Speaker 4: the end of the day, you know, if you want
- 34:57Speaker 4: to reach a lot of casual people, you want to
- 34:58Speaker 4: put on a knockout guy who's going to be an
- 35:00Speaker 4: exciting before or very highly active lots of punches. And
- 35:05Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Broget just isn't that he's He's not that,
- 35:10Speaker 4: you know, his his upset to that French guy was
- 35:12Speaker 4: just like a real I'm not gonna say nail in
- 35:16Speaker 4: the coffin because that's being shitty, but it definitely he
- 35:20Speaker 4: needs he would need to have a lot more show,
- 35:24Speaker 4: a lot more skill, a lot more excitement, a lot
- 35:26Speaker 4: more ass kicking in the ring to uh to get there.
- 35:30Speaker 4: So so I don't know, I mean, I I could
- 35:34Speaker 4: say the Canal is just being petty or also he
- 35:36Speaker 4: just he's just also being really proud of his guy
- 35:38Speaker 4: that his that he helped mentor you know. So I
- 35:41Speaker 4: don't know, but it definitely does kind of the first
- 35:45Speaker 4: thing I thought of was way to not mention benabdus
- 35:47Speaker 4: bro right, right, right, right, So all right, another conversation
- 35:53Speaker 4: you want to have here about speaking of superstars and
- 35:56Speaker 4: speaking of Las Vegas, something I'm very curious about personally.
- 35:59Speaker 4: So pack Hew and Mayweather. We're supposed to run it
- 36:01Speaker 4: back this year. The datas have been in flux August September.
- 36:05Speaker 4: They're saying it was supposed to be in the Sphere,
- 36:09Speaker 4: and then they announced just a few weeks ago that
- 36:12Speaker 4: it's not going to be in the Sphere. It's going
- 36:13Speaker 4: to be either a T Mobile Arena or MGM Grand Arena.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Of course, immediately the commenters on Instagram, those sons of
- 36:19Speaker 4: bitches are always like, oh, because they couldn't sell out
- 36:23Speaker 4: the Sphere wa because nobody cares about this bite b. Yeah.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Just to be clear, so I don't remember off the
- 36:27Speaker 4: top of my head, but I looked up the capacity
- 36:30Speaker 4: for all three of those venues. One of them is
- 36:33Speaker 4: the same as the Sphere. One is actually one is
- 36:34Speaker 4: a little bit less. But I'm curious, jaman as a
- 36:37Speaker 4: as a guy who lives in Vegas, what do you
- 36:39Speaker 4: think the reason for that is? I mean, a fight
- 36:42Speaker 4: like This doesn't matter. If we think they're too old
- 36:44Speaker 4: and you know Grandpe's in the ring, we're not that
- 36:46Speaker 4: excited about. It's still a big deal. It's a nostalgia
- 36:50Speaker 4: bate and putting in the sphere would actually be kind
- 36:53Speaker 4: of awesome because it's there's an attraction there. What do
- 36:56Speaker 4: you think? What would you speculate? The reason is that
- 36:58Speaker 4: they're looking for different venues.
- 37:00Speaker 3: So I do know that the Spear and T Mobile
- 37:06Speaker 3: are both around twenty thousand. I think T mobiling is
- 37:09Speaker 3: cheaper to operate than the Spear, so I think that's
- 37:13Speaker 3: a part of it. I think also for boxing itself,
- 37:17Speaker 3: I think it's a better situation for T Mobile than
- 37:20Speaker 3: the Spere for that kind of fight, that kind of
- 37:22Speaker 3: situation MGM Grand boxing capacity to my knowledge is like
- 37:28Speaker 3: fifteen thousand or seventeen thousand. Some are right there somewhere
- 37:32Speaker 3: in between those two numbers, So there's another three thousand
- 37:35Speaker 3: seats for T Mobile. Also, a T Mobile you got
- 37:38Speaker 3: the suites, so there's a lot more money for T Mobile.
- 37:42Speaker 3: If you have the fight there, then you would if
- 37:44Speaker 3: you have the fight at the Spear or wherever else.
- 37:47Speaker 3: So that's why I could see that fight having at
- 37:50Speaker 3: t Mobile because it's more money to be made there.
- 37:54Speaker 2: MGM.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Grand Rent is way cheaper than both of those spots.
- 37:57Speaker 3: So that's why that option is available. It won't be
- 37:59Speaker 3: a lack of it when we do to the lack
- 38:01Speaker 3: of tickets. Trust me, the tickets are gonna be People
- 38:04Speaker 3: will always see these guys fight if they're fighting. That
- 38:06Speaker 3: won't Unfortunately that the tickets won't be an issue. Uh,
- 38:10Speaker 3: They're gonna sell tickets. It's gonna be a thing. Floyd
- 38:13Speaker 3: needs the money, unfortunately, And here we go again.
- 38:17Speaker 4: Well and okay, so I understand what you're saying that
- 38:20Speaker 4: you know, with with the money to be made, but
- 38:22Speaker 4: the sphere is hyped hype as hell. You know, why
- 38:25Speaker 4: isn't it. Why aren't they using that to sort of
- 38:28Speaker 4: make this fight a bigger deal Because honestly, for me,
- 38:32Speaker 4: even I thought to myself, I don't care. I don't
- 38:34Speaker 4: care about Bewather Baciato. I really don't. But I did
- 38:37Speaker 4: think to myself, being able to see them fighting in
- 38:40Speaker 4: the sphere would actually be really cool.
- 38:42Speaker 3: The spirit's not really for boxing though, that's more for
- 38:44Speaker 3: like plays like award shows, stuff like that. You can
- 38:49Speaker 3: make it into a boxing, but it's not. That's not
- 38:51Speaker 3: what's really for. Why, I'll gie you the I'll give
- 38:53Speaker 3: you the description of what it's for basically, right, So.
- 38:59Speaker 2: The sphere is for like.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Concerts like three D of three and forty experiences, stuff
- 39:08Speaker 3: like that. It's not like musical like musical entertainment stuff,
- 39:12Speaker 3: not necessarily sports, like you're not gonna see a basketball
- 39:15Speaker 3: game and it just doesn't. It just doesn't really do that.
- 39:18Speaker 3: It's more for shows and like corporate stuff. It's not
- 39:22Speaker 3: really made for sports. You can do it, but it's
- 39:25Speaker 3: not that's not the purpose for it. T mobiles at
- 39:28Speaker 3: sports arena that the hockey team plays there. When NBA
- 39:31Speaker 3: is here, they play there. So obviously mini box, many
- 39:35Speaker 3: many boxing events have been there. That's what it's for.
- 39:38Speaker 3: So that's the main reason for the spear. However, I
- 39:41Speaker 3: think you might be able to charge more per sept
- 39:44Speaker 3: at the spere based off the experience, but I think
- 39:47Speaker 3: in general, with the sweets are they t mobiles probably
- 39:51Speaker 3: a better spot overall.
- 39:52Speaker 4: God got it. So it's maybe like trying to put
- 39:54Speaker 4: a a square pegan around the sphere. Yea.
- 40:00Speaker 3: I think there was some confusion with the dates as well,
- 40:02Speaker 3: because the Spear has booked a lot of those weekends
- 40:04Speaker 3: in September in October, so that's another issue.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that could have been Also, I'm assuming getting the
- 40:10Speaker 4: cart before the horse and announced it, kind of like
- 40:12Speaker 4: with Canola Crafford they announced a fight in the weekend
- 40:16Speaker 4: in Vegas where the football team is playing or something
- 40:18Speaker 4: like that. The college ball was right, So it doesn't
- 40:22Speaker 4: show great organizations skills. But yeah, I kind of I
- 40:26Speaker 4: really wanted to hear your take because immediately I saw
- 40:28Speaker 4: the snarky commentaries being like they can't sell tickets for shit,
- 40:33Speaker 4: they have to find a smaller venue without doing any research,
- 40:35Speaker 4: mind you, or like actually looking up the thing.
- 40:39Speaker 3: There was like, yeah, we're moving to MGM Grand and
- 40:41Speaker 3: there's no other options, all right, are you talking about
- 40:44Speaker 3: they moved into the Orleans or like man La all right.
- 40:49Speaker 2: But that ain't the case.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Like they're talking about putting a team obile team obile
- 40:53Speaker 3: seats twenty thousand plus and it's a premier spot. It's
- 40:56Speaker 3: a premiere arena for boxing. So people are hey, like,
- 41:00Speaker 3: you gotta realize this. People are naturally detractors, they're naturally haters.
- 41:06Speaker 3: They would rather hate on something and be like Okay,
- 41:09Speaker 3: that's dope.
- 41:10Speaker 2: No, no, no. The first word wasn't gonna be ah.
- 41:12Speaker 2: That ain't it. This is it, And it's like, bru
- 41:14Speaker 2: why why? Why? I know?
- 41:17Speaker 4: And just you know at the very leng if you're
- 41:19Speaker 4: gonna say, well, they cancel tickets or they're moving it
- 41:21Speaker 4: to a smaller venue, fucking Google search it figure it
- 41:24Speaker 4: out what the cassidy is.
- 41:25Speaker 2: If they couldn't sell tickets, they would not be doing it.
- 41:28Speaker 4: That's fair, that's absolutely fair. And speaking of Floyd, actually,
- 41:32Speaker 4: you know what something I forgot to put in our
- 41:34Speaker 4: script does and that I realized just before I got
- 41:37Speaker 4: on the mic. He's not only fighting that Pakio this year,
- 41:41Speaker 4: he's fighting some kickboxer named Mike Zambidis. Did you know
- 41:43Speaker 4: anything about this?
- 41:44Speaker 2: Yeah? He has three fights. Well, it was three fight
- 41:47Speaker 2: schedule this year.
- 41:48Speaker 3: It was a kickboxer, it was Mike Tyson, it was
- 41:50Speaker 3: packed yal in summer or I think Tyson one got
- 41:54Speaker 3: canceled or postponed. But he is fighting some kickboxer and
- 41:57Speaker 3: a boxing event soon and then he's fighting ye supposedly
- 42:01Speaker 3: he lost one hundred and twenty five million dollars liquid
- 42:04Speaker 3: and he's so in the person who went to jail
- 42:06Speaker 3: for Belzlleman and all that kind of other stuff.
- 42:09Speaker 2: So it's all that being said, that's what's going on.
- 42:14Speaker 3: That's the situation, and I don't think we're gonna still last.
- 42:19Speaker 3: And Floyd maybe fighting when you owe when you've lost
- 42:22Speaker 3: that much, you owe people money and the only skills
- 42:24Speaker 3: you have is fighting.
- 42:26Speaker 2: You're gonna fight till you can't fight more.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean understandably. You know, the Pecio fight is
- 42:32Speaker 4: is a cash grap is sostalgia bate. But at least
- 42:35Speaker 4: it was a huge fight back in the day. You know,
- 42:37Speaker 4: they made him a lot of money and they could
- 42:39Speaker 4: run it back. But when I saw he was also
- 42:41Speaker 4: fighting potentially Tyson in the Kickboxer, I'm like, this man
- 42:44Speaker 4: is broke, broke, Like this is this.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Is the problem.
- 42:48Speaker 3: He owes a lot of people money, and the problem
- 42:50Speaker 3: is this there's no foundation. Like the biggest problem I
- 42:53Speaker 3: ever had with the money team stuff was this. At
- 42:55Speaker 3: the peak of his powers, Floyd could have boxing gyms,
- 42:58Speaker 3: boxing gear, headgear, mouthpieces, gloves, all that stuff, and he
- 43:04Speaker 3: could have been the guy not just for boxing, for
- 43:07Speaker 3: all combat sports. He could have been the guy that
- 43:09Speaker 3: had all the mouthpieces all that. He could have been
- 43:12Speaker 3: the guy to trademark and do a big job of
- 43:15Speaker 3: all that shit, but the mint, the vision wasn't there.
- 43:19Speaker 2: So the whole shorts of the shirts and the hats,
- 43:22Speaker 2: it was cute.
- 43:23Speaker 3: It was cute seeing people in the airport wearing the
- 43:25Speaker 3: TMT hat, the.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Shirt, it's cool.
- 43:28Speaker 3: But they ain't got no money like then people you
- 43:30Speaker 3: see on people's couches and shit. It's like, nah, I
- 43:32Speaker 3: don't want to hear that money team and shit, you
- 43:34Speaker 3: don't have your own bed. I don't want to hear that,
- 43:36Speaker 3: like you can't you can't touch a third stat at
- 43:40Speaker 3: wherever you're staying at and you got TMG hat on. No, No,
- 43:44Speaker 3: I don't want to hear no money team shit from
- 43:46Speaker 3: people who ain't got no money. And now Floyd is
- 43:49Speaker 3: like his old fans, his fans were he broke too,
- 43:52Speaker 3: and it's unfortunate because this should have never happened. You
- 43:55Speaker 3: can't touch a billion plus and you fight multiple times
- 43:58Speaker 3: when you out turn fifty.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Nah man, nah, something may right, something right?
- 44:03Speaker 4: Nope, Yeah, no, I like, at the very least, I
- 44:07Speaker 4: have no idea why there's not fullid weather wayweather Energy
- 44:10Speaker 4: drinks or sit like that, you know available now, all
- 44:13Speaker 4: kind of stuff, a hand wrap, all all the boxing accessories.
- 44:18Speaker 3: You should have been able to get with his branding
- 44:20Speaker 3: at the time of his peak of his powers. The
- 44:23Speaker 3: marketing he could have done with all that stuff in peppetuity,
- 44:28Speaker 3: he should have been fine for life. But the way
- 44:31Speaker 3: he spent money, the way he got got on some projects,
- 44:34Speaker 3: and man, it's not looking pretty because some of these
- 44:38Speaker 3: stories we keep hearing like he had to get basically
- 44:41Speaker 3: an advance off the money from the pack yad like.
- 44:44Speaker 2: It's just like, nah, man, something a lot. I ain't
- 44:47Speaker 2: right here, And it's unfortunate.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Because he made way too much money for way too
- 44:52Speaker 3: many people to be in this situation. However, you don't
- 44:56Speaker 3: need two private jets, you don't need thirty plus luxury cars,
- 45:00Speaker 3: don't need a crazy on for oup of people. So
- 45:03Speaker 3: we saw the signs. We can't We're not no one shocked.
- 45:06Speaker 3: No one's shocked at this. Unfortunately, no one's going damn,
- 45:10Speaker 3: I didn't know that's gonna happen.
- 45:11Speaker 2: No, we kind of saw this coming.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Plus we've seen it a million times, not just with athletes,
- 45:16Speaker 4: but with actors, you know, singers. Rick James was rich
- 45:19Speaker 4: at one time. So yeah, and you know, I again
- 45:24Speaker 4: going back to Canelo. You know, if he retires, you know, uh,
- 45:28Speaker 4: he's gonna be doing super fine for himself. Uh. You know,
- 45:31Speaker 4: Canelo's got the no boxing, no life gear. He's got
- 45:34Speaker 4: the gloves, I have a shirt, you know, all that stuff. Uh,
- 45:37Speaker 4: you can cut you can see exactly what the path
- 45:40Speaker 4: could have been for him. He's got his drinks, et cetera.
- 45:43Speaker 4: You know, he's his own brand. There's no reason why
- 45:46Speaker 4: Money Mayweather wouldn't have been able to do the same thing.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Like it was the biggest thing in the world. So
- 45:51Speaker 4: it's a it is a bummer to see, to be
- 45:53Speaker 4: honest with you, just kind of the Mayweather fight, or sorry,
- 45:57Speaker 4: the Pacquiel fight. I get it. Like I'm am not
- 46:01Speaker 4: a huge fan of the idea, but I get it.
- 46:03Speaker 4: But yeah, when I saw him fighting some kickboxer for
- 46:06Speaker 4: an exhibition this month with and I don't even don't
- 46:10Speaker 4: I don't remember how the hell I found out. I
- 46:11Speaker 4: think it was just like scribbe scrolling.
- 46:14Speaker 3: It's been marketed. But here's the thing too, you're not
- 46:17Speaker 3: the first exhibitions he's done. He's already gone to Japan
- 46:19Speaker 3: and fought k He's done this before. Right, Well, it's like, man,
- 46:23Speaker 3: I get it's easy, but I get that part, right,
- 46:25Speaker 3: I understand that. My thing is this, man, you're trying
- 46:29Speaker 3: to work less as you get older. You're not trying
- 46:31Speaker 3: to work more. You're trying to work less. And for
- 46:34Speaker 3: a guy turning fifty in the next calendar year, you
- 46:37Speaker 3: would be you'd be sad and why he's fighting two
- 46:41Speaker 3: three times a year as he's fifty. But we've seen
- 46:43Speaker 3: this before. We've seen unfortunately seeing Roy Jones. We've seen
- 46:47Speaker 3: other guys fight so they can't fight any more. And
- 46:50Speaker 3: it's really sad, It's truly sad. But at the same time,
- 46:54Speaker 3: as an adult, you have responsible for your decisions and
- 46:58Speaker 3: there are a lot of reckless decisions that were made
- 47:00Speaker 3: aid that he has me account for.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Well, we're gonna keep an eye on on these stories
- 47:07Speaker 4: of these potential fights and just see what happens if
- 47:09Speaker 4: they do happen, you know. Yeah, the Tyson fight slowly
- 47:12Speaker 4: just fell off the radar. I thought it was supposed
- 47:14Speaker 4: to be this month actually, so we.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Don't see that. We don't Oh yeah, we don't see that.
- 47:19Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're going to talk about it. In context
- 47:21Speaker 4: of the boxing world and of Floyd's you know, history
- 47:25Speaker 4: and his fame and all of that. But we're not
- 47:27Speaker 4: sitting here being like, fuck, yeah, let's watch Floyd fight
- 47:30Speaker 4: Mike Tyson. Jeez, no, no no, and you know, also
- 47:33Speaker 4: talking about it in context of kind of honestly cow
- 47:36Speaker 4: ridiculous that something like that is. But you know, we're
- 47:40Speaker 4: gonna cover who, We're going to cover the news in
- 47:41Speaker 4: that way. But yeah, in the meantime, let's wrap it
- 47:45Speaker 4: up here. Next episode will be doing a full recap
- 47:48Speaker 4: of the Beam Rodriguez versus Antonio fight in Phoenix. I'm
- 47:53Speaker 4: not sure if I'm going to be there in person
- 47:54Speaker 4: logistically speaking, it's Tune thirteenth. I'd like to be, but
- 47:58Speaker 4: it's up in the air right now. But the very least,
- 48:00Speaker 4: you know, I'll definitely be watching at least at home
- 48:03Speaker 4: or catch the replay. So, but Jamison, where can people
