  geekology.
• 1:22
  We

  the
• 1:22
  priest
• 1:23
  of

  the
• 1:23
  geeks.
• 1:23
  And
• 1:24
  I
• 1:24
  am
• 1:24
  one
• 1:24
  of
• 1:24
  your
• 1:25
  geekologist,
• 1:26
  pop
• 1:26
  culture
• 1:27
  enthusiast
• 1:27
  Kevin
• 1:28
  Schaefer.
• 1:29
  And
• 1:29
  I
• 1:29
  am
• 1:29
  here
• 1:29
  with
• 1:31
  X
• 1:31
  Men
• 1:31
  connoisseur,
• 1:32
  esteemed
• 1:34
  geekologist,
• 1:34
  Andy
• 1:35
  Walsh.
• 1:35
  Andy,
• 1:36
  how
• 1:36
  are
• 1:36
  you
• 1:36
  tonight?
• 1:37
  I
• 1:37
  am
• 1:37
  doing
• 1:37
  very
• 1:37
  well,
• 1:38
  thank
• 1:38
  you
• 1:38
  for
• 1:38
  that
• 1:38
  generous
• 1:39
  introduction.
• 1:39
  Kevin,
• 1:40
  how
• 1:40
  are
• 1:40
  you?
• 1:40
  I'm
• 1:41
  doing
• 1:41
  really
• 1:41
  well.
• 1:41
  It's,
• 1:41
  you
• 1:42
  know,
• 1:42
  it's
• 1:42
  fine.
• 1:42
  What?
• 1:43
  This
• 1:43
  isn't
• 1:43
  a
• 1:44
  what
• 1:44
  we're
• 1:44
  geeking
• 1:44
  out
• 1:45
  on
• 1:45
  like
• 1:46
  a
• 1:46
  feature,
• 1:46
  but
• 1:46
  it's
• 1:47
  something
• 1:47
  I
• 1:47
  have
• 1:47
  to
• 1:47
  tell
• 1:47
  about
• 1:47
  you
• 1:48
  you
• 1:48
  real
• 1:48
  quick.
• 1:49
  There's
• 1:49
  a
• 1:49
  podcaster
• 1:51
  and
• 1:52
  like
• 1:52
  YouTube
• 1:52
  post
• 1:52
  I've
• 1:53
  been
• 1:53
  following
• 1:53
  for
• 1:53
  years.
• 1:53
  Who
• 1:54
  he
• 1:54
  this
• 1:55
  year
• 1:55
  he's
• 1:56
  watching
• 1:57
  re
• 1:57
  watching
• 1:58
  every
• 1:58
  MCU
• 1:59
  movie
• 2:00
  and
• 2:00
  Fox
• 2:00
  X
• 2:01
  Men
• 2:01
  movie
• 2:02
  like
• 2:02
  every
• 2:02
  week
• 2:03
  leading
• 2:03
  up
• 2:03
  to
• 2:03
  doomsday.
• 2:04
  And
• 2:04
  he
• 2:04
  started
• 2:04
  a
• 2:05
  blog
• 2:05
  about
• 2:05
  it.
• 2:06
  It's
• 2:06
  fascinating.
• 2:06
  So
• 2:07
  it's
• 2:07
  called
• 2:07
  like
• 2:07
  my
• 2:08
  yearofmarvel.blogspot.com.
• 2:10
  i
• 2:10
  had
• 2:10
  to
• 2:10
  plug
• 2:11
  that
• 2:11
  for
• 2:11
  you
• 2:11
  because
• 2:11
  I
• 2:11
  think
• 2:12
  you
• 2:12
  would
• 2:12
  really
• 2:12
  enjoy
• 2:12
  it
• 2:12
  because
• 2:13
  he's
• 2:13
  doing
• 2:13
  both,
• 2:14
  like
• 2:14
  each
• 2:15
  movie
• 2:15
  and
• 2:15
  then
• 2:16
  comic
• 2:16
  tie
• 2:17
  ins
• 2:17
  and
• 2:17
  that
• 2:17
  kind
• 2:18
  of
• 2:18
  thing.
• 2:18
  And
• 2:19
  it's
• 2:19
  a
• 2:19
  well
• 2:19
  written
• 2:20
  blog.
• 2:20
  I
• 2:20
  really
• 2:20
  appreciate
• 2:21
  his
• 2:21
  perspective.
• 2:22
  So
• 2:22
  Hector
• 2:23
  Navarro
• 2:24
  is
• 2:24
  the
• 2:25
  author
• 2:25
  of
• 2:25
  it.
• 2:25
  Excellent.
• 2:26
  That
• 2:26
  does
• 2:26
  sound
• 2:27
  right
• 2:27
  up
• 2:27
  my
• 2:27
  alley
• 2:28
  and
• 2:28
  maybe
• 2:28
  I
• 2:28
  will
• 2:29
  try
• 2:29
  to
• 2:29
  watch
• 2:30
  along.
• 2:31
  It's
• 2:32
  pretty
• 2:32
  cool.
• 2:32
  Yeah.
• 2:32
  And
• 2:33
  he's
• 2:33
  also
• 2:33
  crafted
• 2:34
  a
• 2:34
  really
• 2:34
  interesting
• 2:35
  viewing
• 2:35
  order
• 2:35
  too.
• 2:36
  That's
• 2:36
  not
• 2:37
  order
• 2:37
  of
• 2:37
  how
• 2:37
  they
• 2:37
  were
• 2:38
  released.
• 2:38
  It's
• 2:38
  fascinating.
• 2:39
  Okay.
• 2:40
  And
• 2:40
  while
• 2:40
  we're
• 2:40
  not
• 2:40
  geeking
• 2:41
  out
• 2:41
  on
• 2:41
  things,
• 2:42
  I'm
• 2:42
  not
• 2:42
  geeking
• 2:43
  out
• 2:43
  on
• 2:43
  Will
• 2:44
  Rose,
• 2:44
  our
• 2:44
  co
• 2:45
  host,
• 2:46
  teased
• 2:46
  that
• 2:47
  he
• 2:47
  might
• 2:47
  be
• 2:47
  interviewing
• 2:48
  Al
• 2:48
  Ewing
• 2:48
  on
• 2:49
  his
• 2:49
  Thor
• 2:49
  podcast.
• 2:51
  So
• 2:51
  I
• 2:52
  am
• 2:52
  excited,
• 2:52
  slash
• 2:53
  not
• 2:53
  excited
• 2:53
  to
• 2:54
  hear
• 2:54
  or
• 2:54
  not
• 2:54
  hear
• 2:55
  that
• 2:55
  interview
• 2:55
  that
• 2:55
  may
• 2:55
  or
• 2:56
  may
• 2:56
  not
• 2:56
  be
• 2:56
  happening.
• 2:57
  May
• 2:57
  or
• 2:57
  may
• 2:57
  not
• 2:57
  be.
• 2:58
  We'll
• 2:58
  have
• 2:58
  to
• 2:58
  see
• 2:59
  one
• 3:00
  that
• 3:00
  we
• 3:00
  did
• 3:00
  drop
• 3:00
  was
• 3:01
  interview
• 3:02
  with
• 3:02
  Rob
• 3:02
  Venditti,
• 3:03
  like
• 3:04
  I
• 3:04
  said.
• 3:04
  Actually,
• 3:05
  I
• 3:05
  can
• 3:05
  call
• 3:05
  a
• 3:05
  friend.
• 3:06
  I've
• 3:06
  known
• 3:06
  him
• 3:06
  for
• 3:06
  years.
• 3:07
  He's
• 3:07
  one
• 3:07
  of
• 3:07
  the
• 3:07
  first
• 3:08
  comic
• 3:08
  creators
• 3:09
  I
• 3:09
  ever
• 3:09
  interviewed.
• 3:10
  So
• 3:10
  Will
• 3:11
  and
• 3:11
  I
• 3:11
  just
• 3:11
  interviewed
• 3:12
  him
• 3:12
  for
• 3:12
  this
• 3:13
  podcast,
• 3:14
  so
• 3:14
  you
• 3:14
  can
• 3:14
  go
• 3:15
  check
• 3:15
  that
• 3:15
  out.
• 3:15
  But
• 3:15
  fair
• 3:16
  enough.
• 3:16
  But
• 3:17
  yeah,
• 3:17
  well,
• 3:18
  and
• 3:18
  I
• 3:18
  say
• 3:18
  all
• 3:19
  of
• 3:19
  this
• 3:19
  because
• 3:20
  this
• 3:20
  is
• 3:20
  a
• 3:21
  very
• 3:21
  comic
• 3:21
  book
• 3:22
  centric
• 3:22
  episode.
• 3:23
  So
• 3:23
  I
• 3:23
  had
• 3:24
  to
• 3:24
  put
• 3:24
  a
• 3:24
  little
• 3:24
  tease
• 3:24
  there.
• 3:25
  But
• 3:26
  yeah,
• 3:26
  Andy,
• 3:26
  I'm
• 3:26
  really
• 3:27
  excited
• 3:27
  for
• 3:27
  this
• 3:27
  episode.
• 3:28
  We
• 3:28
  are
• 3:28
  going
• 3:29
  to
• 3:29
  be
• 3:29
  talking
• 3:29
  about
• 3:30
  indie
• 3:30
  comic
• 3:31
  book
• 3:31
  icons.
• 3:32
  So
• 3:32
  obviously
• 3:33
  people
• 3:33
  like
• 3:33
  you
• 3:33
  and
• 3:34
  me,
• 3:34
  you
• 3:34
  know
• 3:34
  I'm
• 3:34
  wearing
• 3:35
  a
• 3:35
  Batman
• 3:35
  shirt
• 3:35
  right
• 3:36
  now.
• 3:36
  You
• 3:37
  have
• 3:37
  your
• 3:38
  Xavier
• 3:39
  logo
• 3:39
  in
• 3:40
  the
• 3:40
  background
• 3:40
  as
• 3:41
  always.
• 3:41
  You
• 3:41
  know,
• 3:42
  we
• 3:42
  talk
• 3:42
  DC
• 3:42
  and
• 3:43
  Marvel
• 3:43
  all
• 3:43
  the
• 3:43
  time,
• 3:44
  but
• 3:44
  you
• 3:44
  And
• 3:44
  I
• 3:44
  are
• 3:45
  also
• 3:46
  big
• 3:47
  fans,
• 3:48
  enthusiasts
• 3:48
  of
• 3:49
  indie
• 3:49
  comic
• 3:50
  books.
• 3:50
  And
• 3:50
  so
• 3:51
  what
• 3:51
  we're
• 3:51
  doing
• 3:51
  in
• 3:51
  this
• 3:52
  episode
• 3:52
  is
• 3:52
  talking
• 3:53
  about
• 3:54
  each,
• 3:54
  for
• 3:54
  each
• 3:55
  of
• 3:55
  us,
• 3:55
  three
• 3:56
  iconic
• 3:57
  characters
• 3:58
  from
• 3:58
  indie
• 3:59
  comic
• 3:59
  books.
• 4:00
  And
• 4:00
  in
• 4:00
  particular
• 4:01
  these
• 4:01
  are
• 4:01
  characters
• 4:02
  that
• 4:02
  we
• 4:03
  find
• 4:03
  relatable.
• 4:03
  So
• 4:04
  not
• 4:04
  just
• 4:05
  the
• 4:05
  ones
• 4:06
  that
• 4:06
  have
• 4:06
  their
• 4:06
  place
• 4:06
  in
• 4:07
  pop
• 4:07
  culture,
• 4:07
  but
• 4:08
  ones
• 4:08
  that
• 4:08
  we
• 4:09
  have
• 4:09
  a
• 4:09
  more
• 4:09
  personal
• 4:10
  connection
• 4:10
  to,
• 4:10
  sort
• 4:11
  of.
• 4:11
  I'm
• 4:11
  really
• 4:11
  excited
• 4:12
  to
• 4:12
  see
• 4:12
  what
• 4:13
  we
• 4:13
  have
• 4:13
  picked
• 4:13
  here
• 4:14
  and
• 4:14
  this
• 4:14
  will
• 4:14
  be
• 4:14
  a
• 4:14
  really
• 4:15
  fun
• 4:15
  discussion.
• 4:16
  And
• 4:17
  before
• 4:17
  we
• 4:17
  get
• 4:17
  started,
• 4:18
  first
• 4:18
  off,
• 4:18
  I
• 4:18
  wanted
• 4:19
  to
• 4:19
  thank
• 4:19
  James
• 4:20
  Barrett.
• 4:20
  Thank
• 4:21
  you
• 4:21
  so
• 4:21
  much
• 4:21
  for
• 4:21
  the
• 4:21
  support,
• 4:22
  James.
• 4:22
  You
• 4:23
  rock.
• 4:23
  We
• 4:24
  really
• 4:24
  appreciate
• 4:24
  it.
• 4:25
  And
• 4:25
  if
• 4:25
  you
• 4:25
  want
• 4:26
  to
• 4:26
  learn
• 4:26
  more
• 4:26
  about
• 4:26
  how
• 4:27
  you
• 4:27
  can
• 4:27
  support
• 4:28
  systematic
• 4:28
  ecology
• 4:29
  or
• 4:29
  if
• 4:30
  your
• 4:30
  first
• 4:30
  time
• 4:30
  here
• 4:30
  and
• 4:30
  you
• 4:31
  just
• 4:31
  want
• 4:31
  to
• 4:31
  look
• 4:32
  into
• 4:32
  the
• 4:32
  show
• 4:32
  a
• 4:32
  little
• 4:32
  bit
• 4:33
  more,
• 4:33
  check
• 4:33
  out
• 4:33
  the
• 4:34
  show
• 4:34
  notes.
• 4:34
  You
• 4:34
  can
• 4:34
  see
• 4:34
  in
• 4:35
  the
• 4:35
  description
• 4:35
  there
• 4:36
  ways
• 4:36
  where
• 4:37
  you
• 4:37
  can
• 4:37
  support
• 4:38
  us
• 4:38
  and
• 4:39
  you
• 4:39
  know,
• 4:39
  you
• 4:39
  can
• 4:39
  follow
• 4:40
  us
• 4:40
  on
• 4:40
  all
• 4:40
  our
• 4:41
  social
• 4:41
  media
• 4:42
  pages
• 4:42
  and
• 4:43
  all
• 4:43
  over
• 4:44
  the
• 4:44
  Internet
• 4:44
  wherever
• 4:45
  you
• 4:45
  get
• 4:45
  your
• 4:45
  podcasts.
• 4:46
  But
• 4:46
  check
• 4:47
  that
• 4:47
  out.
• 4:47
  That
• 4:47
  will
• 4:47
  give
• 4:47
  you
• 4:48
  some
• 4:48
  good
• 4:48
  information
• 4:48
  on
• 4:49
  how
• 4:49
  best
• 4:50
  to
• 4:50
  help
• 4:51
  us
• 4:51
  out
• 4:51
  because
• 4:51
  we
• 4:51
  really
• 4:52
  appreciate
• 4:52
  listeners
• 4:53
  like
• 4:53
  all
• 4:54
  of
• 4:54
  you.
• 4:55
  So
• 4:56
  Andy,
• 4:56
  I'm
• 4:57
  really
• 4:57
  excited
• 4:57
  for
• 4:57
  this
• 4:58
  one.
• 4:58
  So
• 4:58
  let's
• 4:58
  get
• 4:59
  right
• 4:59
  into
• 4:59
  it
• 5:00
  before
• 5:00
  we
• 5:00
  share
• 5:01
  our
• 5:01
  top
• 5:02
  three
• 5:02
  characters.
• 5:03
  What
• 5:03
  are
• 5:04
  some
• 5:04
  what's
• 5:04
  kind
• 5:05
  of
• 5:05
  your
• 5:05
  background
• 5:05
  with
• 5:07
  independent
• 5:07
  comic
• 5:07
  books?
• 5:08
  Because
• 5:08
  again,
• 5:08
  you
• 5:09
  and
• 5:09
  I
• 5:09
  talk
• 5:09
  DC
• 5:09
  and
• 5:09
  Marvel
• 5:10
  a
• 5:10
  ton.
• 5:10
  But
• 5:11
  I'm
• 5:11
  curious
• 5:11
  kind
• 5:11
  of
• 5:12
  when
• 5:12
  you
• 5:12
  started
• 5:12
  reading
• 5:14
  books
• 5:14
  that
• 5:15
  are
• 5:15
  outside
• 5:15
  the
• 5:15
  big
• 5:15
  two.
• 5:16
  Yeah.
• 5:17
  So
• 5:17
  that
• 5:18
  made
• 5:18
  this
• 5:18
  challenging
• 5:19
  to
• 5:19
  kind
• 5:19
  of
• 5:19
  go
• 5:19
  through
• 5:20
  the
• 5:20
  list
• 5:20
  because
• 5:21
  I
• 5:21
  realized
• 5:21
  that
• 5:22
  while
• 5:24
  I've
• 5:24
  read
• 5:24
  a
• 5:24
  few
• 5:25
  non
• 5:25
  Marvel
• 5:26
  and
• 5:26
  DC
• 5:26
  books,
• 5:27
  most
• 5:27
  of
• 5:27
  that
• 5:28
  has
• 5:28
  happened
• 5:28
  in
• 5:29
  my
• 5:29
  adult
• 5:29
  years.
• 5:30
  And
• 5:30
  so
• 5:32
  I
• 5:32
  don't
• 5:32
  know
• 5:32
  that
• 5:32
  these
• 5:32
  are
• 5:33
  necessarily
• 5:33
  formative
• 5:34
  characters
• 5:34
  in
• 5:34
  the
• 5:35
  same
• 5:35
  way
• 5:35
  that
• 5:36
  like
• 5:36
  Superman
• 5:37
  and
• 5:37
  Batman
• 5:38
  and
• 5:39
  Multiple
• 5:39
  man
• 5:39
  and
• 5:40
  some
• 5:40
  of
• 5:40
  the
• 5:40
  other
• 5:40
  people
• 5:40
  that
• 5:41
  I
• 5:41
  talk
• 5:41
  about
• 5:41
  regularly
• 5:42
  that
• 5:43
  I
• 5:43
  encountered
• 5:44
  as
• 5:44
  a
• 5:44
  kid
• 5:45
  growing
• 5:45
  up
• 5:45
  and
• 5:45
  sort
• 5:45
  of
• 5:46
  imprinted
• 5:46
  on
• 5:47
  those
• 5:48
  were
• 5:49
  easy
• 5:50
  names
• 5:50
  to
• 5:50
  come
• 5:50
  up
• 5:50
  with.
• 5:51
  But
• 5:53
  my
• 5:53
  independent
• 5:54
  comic
• 5:54
  reading
• 5:55
  definitely
• 5:55
  started
• 5:56
  more
• 5:58
  as
• 5:58
  a
• 5:58
  young
• 5:59
  adult.
• 6:00
  So
• 6:00
  read
• 6:00
  comics
• 6:01
  in
• 6:01
  junior
• 6:02
  high
• 6:02
  and
• 6:02
  high
• 6:02
  school,
• 6:03
  mostly
• 6:03
  X
• 6:04
  Men
• 6:05
  because
• 6:05
  my
• 6:05
  friend
• 6:05
  got
• 6:05
  me
• 6:06
  into
• 6:06
  X
• 6:06
  Men
• 6:06
  comics.
• 6:06
  I'd
• 6:07
  read
• 6:07
  some
• 6:07
  like
• 6:07
  Superman
• 6:08
  and
• 6:08
  Batman
• 6:08
  collections
• 6:09
  from
• 6:09
  the
• 6:09
  library
• 6:09
  before
• 6:09
  that,
• 6:10
  like
• 6:10
  1950s
• 6:10
  and
• 6:11
  1960s
• 6:12
  kind
• 6:12
  of
• 6:12
  black
• 6:12
  and
• 6:12
  white
• 6:14
  reprints,
• 6:15
  you
• 6:15
  know,
• 6:15
  giant
• 6:15
  massive
• 6:16
  book
• 6:16
  doorstop
• 6:17
  collections
• 6:19
  of
• 6:20
  Batman
• 6:20
  and
• 6:21
  Superman
• 6:21
  comics.
• 6:23
  And
• 6:24
  you
• 6:24
  know,
• 6:25
  I
• 6:25
  remember
• 6:25
  Image,
• 6:26
  you
• 6:26
  know,
• 6:26
  launching
• 6:27
  in
• 6:27
  the,
• 6:27
  in
• 6:28
  the
• 6:28
  early
• 6:28
  90s
• 6:28
  as
• 6:29
  I,
• 6:29
  you
• 6:29
  know,
• 6:29
  as
• 6:29
  I
• 6:29
  was
• 6:29
  reading
• 6:29
  Comic
• 6:30
  as
• 6:30
  an
• 6:30
  X
• 6:30
  Men
• 6:31
  reader,
• 6:31
  it
• 6:32
  was
• 6:32
  hard
• 6:32
  to
• 6:32
  not
• 6:32
  be
• 6:33
  somewhat
• 6:33
  aware
• 6:33
  of
• 6:33
  the
• 6:34
  Image
• 6:34
  launch.
• 6:34
  But
• 6:35
  for
• 6:35
  whatever
• 6:35
  reason,
• 6:36
  the
• 6:36
  titles
• 6:37
  just
• 6:37
  didn't
• 6:38
  grab
• 6:38
  me
• 6:38
  at
• 6:38
  the
• 6:38
  time.
• 6:39
  The
• 6:40
  one
• 6:40
  Image
• 6:41
  book
• 6:41
  that
• 6:41
  I
• 6:41
  did
• 6:41
  pick
• 6:42
  up
• 6:42
  at
• 6:42
  launch
• 6:43
  was
• 6:43
  Tribe,
• 6:44
  the
• 6:44
  Larry
• 6:45
  Stroman
• 6:45
  book.
• 6:46
  Because
• 6:46
  Larry
• 6:46
  Stroman
• 6:47
  had
• 6:47
  been
• 6:47
  the
• 6:47
  artist
• 6:47
  on
• 6:48
  Peter
• 6:48
  David's
• 6:49
  X
• 6:49
  Factor
• 6:49
  when
• 6:49
  that
• 6:50
  launched
• 6:50
  and
• 6:51
  he
• 6:51
  left
• 6:51
  that
• 6:51
  to
• 6:51
  go.
• 6:53
  He
• 6:53
  was
• 6:53
  like
• 6:54
  in
• 6:54
  a
• 6:54
  second
• 6:54
  wave
• 6:54
  of
• 6:55
  artists
• 6:56
  who,
• 6:57
  who
• 6:57
  started
• 6:57
  up
• 6:57
  at
• 6:57
  Image.
• 6:58
  So
• 6:59
  that
• 6:59
  wasn't
• 6:59
  one
• 6:59
  of
• 6:59
  the
• 6:59
  launch
• 7:00
  titles,
• 7:00
  that
• 7:00
  was
• 7:00
  one
• 7:00
  of
• 7:00
  their
• 7:01
  second
• 7:01
  wave
• 7:01
  titles.
• 7:02
  And
• 7:02
  they
• 7:03
  published
• 7:03
  all
• 7:03
  of
• 7:03
  one
• 7:03
  issue
• 7:04
  of
• 7:04
  Tribe
• 7:05
  at
• 7:06
  Image.
• 7:07
  Issues
• 7:07
  2
• 7:08
  and
• 7:08
  3
• 7:08
  eventually
• 7:08
  came
• 7:09
  out
• 7:09
  from
• 7:10
  another
• 7:10
  publisher.
• 7:11
  And
• 7:11
  then
• 7:11
  that
• 7:11
  was
• 7:12
  I
• 7:12
  believe
• 7:12
  it
• 7:13
  or
• 7:13
  that's
• 7:14
  certainly
• 7:14
  all
• 7:14
  I
• 7:14
  ever
• 7:15
  read.
• 7:16
  And
• 7:16
  I
• 7:16
  followed
• 7:17
  it
• 7:17
  for
• 7:17
  a
• 7:17
  while
• 7:17
  after
• 7:17
  that.
• 7:19
  Then
• 7:19
  in
• 7:19
  college
• 7:21
  and
• 7:21
  after
• 7:21
  college
• 7:22
  I
• 7:22
  kind
• 7:22
  of
• 7:22
  got
• 7:22
  out
• 7:22
  of
• 7:22
  comics
• 7:23
  for
• 7:23
  a
• 7:23
  bit,
• 7:23
  just
• 7:24
  not
• 7:25
  having
• 7:25
  the
• 7:26
  time
• 7:26
  and.
• 7:26
  Or
• 7:26
  disposable
• 7:27
  income
• 7:27
  in
• 7:27
  the
• 7:27
  same
• 7:28
  way.
• 7:29
  And
• 7:29
  then
• 7:30
  got
• 7:30
  back
• 7:30
  into
• 7:31
  it
• 7:31
  pretty
• 7:32
  much
• 7:32
  because
• 7:33
  Peter
• 7:33
  David
• 7:33
  came
• 7:34
  back
• 7:34
  to
• 7:34
  writing
• 7:34
  multiple
• 7:35
  man
• 7:35
  and
• 7:36
  then
• 7:36
  was
• 7:37
  starting
• 7:37
  to
• 7:37
  get
• 7:37
  more
• 7:37
  into
• 7:38
  listening
• 7:38
  to
• 7:38
  podcasts
• 7:39
  and
• 7:39
  reading
• 7:39
  blogs.
• 7:39
  And
• 7:39
  there
• 7:40
  was
• 7:40
  a
• 7:40
  lot
• 7:40
  more
• 7:40
  ways
• 7:40
  to
• 7:41
  engage
• 7:42
  with
• 7:42
  the
• 7:42
  fan
• 7:42
  community
• 7:44
  at
• 7:44
  the
• 7:44
  time.
• 7:45
  And
• 7:45
  so
• 7:45
  that
• 7:46
  introduced
• 7:46
  me
• 7:46
  to
• 7:46
  a
• 7:47
  bunch
• 7:47
  of
• 7:47
  other
• 7:47
  books
• 7:47
  that
• 7:47
  I
• 7:48
  didn't
• 7:48
  know
• 7:48
  about
• 7:49
  otherwise.
• 7:50
  And
• 7:50
  I
• 7:51
  started
• 7:51
  paying
• 7:51
  more
• 7:51
  attention
• 7:52
  to.
• 7:52
  Okay,
• 7:52
  so.
• 7:53
  And
• 7:53
  there
• 7:53
  were
• 7:53
  also
• 7:53
  more
• 7:54
  opportunities
• 7:54
  for
• 7:54
  writers
• 7:55
  and
• 7:55
  artists
• 7:55
  to
• 7:56
  do
• 7:56
  both
• 7:56
  Marvel
• 7:57
  and
• 7:57
  DC
• 7:57
  work
• 7:58
  and
• 7:58
  creator
• 7:59
  owned
• 7:59
  work
• 7:59
  or
• 7:59
  other
• 7:59
  independent
• 8:00
  work.
• 8:00
  So
• 8:00
  I
• 8:01
  just
• 8:01
  started
• 8:01
  paying
• 8:01
  attention
• 8:01
  more
• 8:02
  to
• 8:02
  who
• 8:02
  are
• 8:02
  the
• 8:03
  creators
• 8:03
  that
• 8:03
  I
• 8:03
  like
• 8:04
  and
• 8:04
  then
• 8:04
  following
• 8:04
  them
• 8:04
  and
• 8:05
  other
• 8:05
  things.
• 8:06
  People
• 8:06
  like
• 8:06
  Kieran
• 8:06
  Gillen
• 8:07
  and
• 8:07
  Sy
• 8:07
  Spurrier
• 8:08
  and
• 8:09
  so
• 8:09
  forth.
• 8:10
  So,
• 8:11
  yeah,
• 8:12
  I'd
• 8:12
  be
• 8:12
  hard
• 8:13
  pressed
• 8:13
  to
• 8:13
  say
• 8:14
  what
• 8:14
  my
• 8:14
  first
• 8:15
  one
• 8:15
  was,
• 8:16
  but
• 8:17
  we'll
• 8:17
  talk
• 8:17
  about
• 8:18
  some.
• 8:19
  Some
• 8:19
  of
• 8:20
  my
• 8:20
  favorites
• 8:22
  that
• 8:22
  I
• 8:22
  came
• 8:22
  across
• 8:23
  in
• 8:23
  that
• 8:23
  process
• 8:24
  as
• 8:24
  we
• 8:24
  go
• 8:25
  along
• 8:25
  here.
• 8:25
  But
• 8:26
  yeah,
• 8:26
  so
• 8:26
  that
• 8:27
  was
• 8:27
  kind
• 8:27
  of
• 8:27
  what
• 8:27
  I
• 8:27
  started.
• 8:27
  So
• 8:28
  I'd
• 8:29
  say
• 8:29
  mid
• 8:29
  2000s,
• 8:30
  like
• 8:31
  the
• 8:31
  first
• 8:31
  decade
• 8:32
  of
• 8:32
  this
• 8:32
  century
• 8:34
  is
• 8:34
  when
• 8:34
  I
• 8:34
  started
• 8:34
  getting
• 8:35
  into
• 8:35
  things
• 8:35
  and
• 8:36
  yeah,
• 8:37
  and
• 8:37
  then
• 8:37
  just
• 8:37
  been
• 8:37
  kind
• 8:37
  of
• 8:38
  following
• 8:38
  different
• 8:38
  recommendations
• 8:39
  from
• 8:40
  different
• 8:40
  podcasts
• 8:40
  or
• 8:41
  now
• 8:41
  this,
• 8:42
  including
• 8:42
  you
• 8:43
  and
• 8:43
  this
• 8:43
  podcast
• 8:45
  and
• 8:45
  different
• 8:46
  blogs.
• 8:46
  And
• 8:46
  then
• 8:47
  also
• 8:47
  just
• 8:47
  like
• 8:47
  I
• 8:47
  said,
• 8:47
  following
• 8:48
  the
• 8:49
  creators
• 8:49
  that
• 8:50
  I
• 8:51
  first
• 8:51
  encountered
• 8:52
  in
• 8:52
  the
• 8:52
  Marvel
• 8:52
  or
• 8:53
  DC
• 8:53
  world
• 8:53
  that
• 8:53
  I
• 8:53
  was
• 8:53
  interested
• 8:54
  in.
• 8:54
  Yeah,
• 8:55
  and
• 8:55
  I'm
• 8:55
  really
• 8:55
  glad
• 8:56
  you
• 8:56
  said
• 8:56
  that
• 8:56
  because
• 8:57
  it's
• 8:57
  been
• 8:57
  such
• 8:58
  a
• 8:58
  fascinating
• 8:59
  evolution
• 8:59
  with
• 8:59
  indie
• 9:00
  comics.
• 9:00
  Like,
• 9:01
  like
• 9:01
  you
• 9:01
  said
• 9:01
  in
• 9:01
  the
• 9:01
  90s,
• 9:02
  that
• 9:02
  was
• 9:02
  when
• 9:03
  Image
• 9:03
  started.
• 9:04
  But
• 9:04
  you
• 9:05
  know,
• 9:05
  I
• 9:05
  was
• 9:05
  a
• 9:06
  toddler
• 9:06
  and
• 9:07
  young
• 9:07
  kid
• 9:07
  then,
• 9:07
  so
• 9:08
  I
• 9:08
  was
• 9:08
  not
• 9:09
  reading
• 9:09
  Spawn,
• 9:10
  you
• 9:10
  know.
• 9:12
  But
• 9:13
  what's
• 9:13
  really
• 9:13
  interesting
• 9:14
  with
• 9:14
  my
• 9:14
  comics
• 9:15
  journey
• 9:15
  is
• 9:15
  that
• 9:16
  I
• 9:16
  started
• 9:17
  really
• 9:17
  collecting
• 9:19
  in
• 9:19
  late
• 9:19
  high
• 9:19
  school
• 9:19
  and
• 9:20
  then
• 9:20
  in
• 9:20
  college,
• 9:21
  because
• 9:22
  in
• 9:22
  college
• 9:22
  there
• 9:22
  was
• 9:23
  a
• 9:23
  comic
• 9:23
  book
• 9:23
  store.
• 9:24
  Right.
• 9:24
  I
• 9:24
  went
• 9:24
  to
• 9:25
  NC
• 9:25
  State
• 9:25
  and
• 9:25
  there
• 9:26
  was
• 9:26
  a
• 9:26
  store
• 9:26
  right
• 9:27
  there
• 9:27
  on
• 9:27
  Hillsborough
• 9:28
  street
• 9:28
  and
• 9:28
  I
• 9:28
  had
• 9:29
  some
• 9:29
  disposable
• 9:29
  income
• 9:30
  and
• 9:30
  so
• 9:30
  I
• 9:30
  was
• 9:30
  able
• 9:31
  to
• 9:31
  collect
• 9:32
  books
• 9:32
  regularly
• 9:33
  there.
• 9:34
  And
• 9:34
  that
• 9:34
  was
• 9:35
  literally
• 9:35
  a
• 9:35
  prime
• 9:35
  time
• 9:36
  for
• 9:37
  independent
• 9:37
  books
• 9:38
  because
• 9:38
  this
• 9:38
  was
• 9:39
  in
• 9:39
  the
• 9:39
  like
• 9:40
  Image
• 9:40
  revival
• 9:41
  boom
• 9:41
  where
• 9:41
  books
• 9:42
  like
• 9:42
  Saga
• 9:43
  and
• 9:43
  then
• 9:43
  later
• 9:44
  Paper
• 9:44
  Girls
• 9:45
  and
• 9:46
  a
• 9:46
  lot
• 9:46
  of
• 9:46
  Jeff
• 9:46
  Lemire
• 9:47
  stuff.
• 9:47
  And
• 9:47
  so
• 9:48
  many
• 9:48
  titles
• 9:48
  were
• 9:48
  coming
• 9:49
  out
• 9:51
  from
• 9:51
  a
• 9:51
  lot
• 9:51
  of
• 9:51
  creators
• 9:52
  who
• 9:52
  had
• 9:52
  been
• 9:53
  established
• 9:53
  at
• 9:54
  Marvel
• 9:54
  and
• 9:54
  DC
• 9:55
  and
• 9:55
  were
• 9:55
  now
• 9:55
  doing
• 9:56
  their
• 9:56
  own
• 9:56
  creator
• 9:57
  owned
• 9:57
  work.
• 9:57
  And
• 9:57
  so
• 9:58
  these
• 9:58
  books
• 9:58
  were
• 9:59
  really,
• 9:59
  I
• 9:59
  mean
• 9:59
  like
• 10:00
  it
• 10:00
  was,
• 10:00
  they
• 10:00
  were
• 10:01
  the
• 10:01
  kind
• 10:01
  of
• 10:01
  stuff
• 10:01
  that
• 10:02
  weren't,
• 10:03
  you
• 10:03
  know,
• 10:03
  looked
• 10:04
  down
• 10:04
  on.
• 10:04
  I
• 10:04
  mean,
• 10:04
  the
• 10:04
  comics
• 10:05
  have
• 10:05
  this
• 10:05
  kind
• 10:05
  of
• 10:06
  all
• 10:06
  the
• 10:06
  back
• 10:07
  and
• 10:07
  forth
• 10:07
  of
• 10:07
  like,
• 10:08
  oh,
• 10:08
  you
• 10:08
  still
• 10:08
  read
• 10:08
  comics
• 10:09
  as
• 10:09
  an
• 10:09
  adult,
• 10:09
  I
• 10:10
  think.
• 10:10
  But
• 10:10
  like
• 10:10
  with
• 10:10
  a
• 10:11
  lot
• 10:11
  of
• 10:11
  these
• 10:11
  titles
• 10:12
  it
• 10:12
  wasn't
• 10:13
  really
• 10:13
  that
• 10:13
  stigma
• 10:14
  there
• 10:14
  as
• 10:14
  much.
• 10:15
  These
• 10:15
  were
• 10:16
  kind
• 10:16
  of
• 10:16
  the
• 10:17
  really
• 10:17
  cool,
• 10:19
  more
• 10:19
  progressive
• 10:20
  stories
• 10:20
  that
• 10:21
  a
• 10:22
  lot
• 10:22
  of
• 10:23
  young
• 10:23
  adults
• 10:24
  and
• 10:24
  older
• 10:25
  adults
• 10:25
  were
• 10:25
  reading
• 10:26
  and
• 10:26
  had
• 10:27
  a
• 10:27
  massive
• 10:27
  appeal.
• 10:27
  And
• 10:28
  so
• 10:29
  yeah,
• 10:29
  I
• 10:29
  was
• 10:29
  getting
• 10:30
  into
• 10:30
  it
• 10:30
  around
• 10:30
  then
• 10:31
  because
• 10:31
  growing
• 10:32
  up,
• 10:32
  yeah,
• 10:32
  I
• 10:32
  mean
• 10:32
  I
• 10:33
  mainly
• 10:33
  had
• 10:34
  graphic
• 10:34
  novels
• 10:35
  that
• 10:35
  I
• 10:35
  would
• 10:35
  get
• 10:35
  either
• 10:35
  at
• 10:36
  the
• 10:36
  library
• 10:36
  or,
• 10:38
  you
• 10:38
  know,
• 10:38
  for
• 10:38
  birthdays
• 10:39
  and
• 10:39
  Christmases,
• 10:39
  but
• 10:40
  those
• 10:40
  were
• 10:40
  all
• 10:41
  superhero
• 10:41
  oriented.
• 10:42
  And
• 10:43
  so
• 10:43
  I,
• 10:44
  when
• 10:44
  I
• 10:44
  got
• 10:44
  to
• 10:45
  college
• 10:45
  and
• 10:45
  I
• 10:45
  was
• 10:46
  collecting
• 10:46
  more
• 10:46
  regularly,
• 10:47
  it
• 10:47
  was
• 10:47
  great
• 10:48
  time
• 10:48
  for
• 10:49
  independent
• 10:50
  comic
• 10:50
  books.
• 10:50
  And
• 10:51
  so
• 10:51
  that
• 10:51
  was
• 10:52
  kind
• 10:52
  of
• 10:53
  just
• 10:53
  kind
• 10:53
  of
• 10:53
  grew
• 10:53
  from
• 10:54
  there.
• 10:54
  And
• 10:54
  you
• 10:54
  know,
• 10:54
  my,
• 10:55
  as
• 10:55
  far
• 10:55
  as
• 10:55
  like
• 10:56
  going
• 10:56
  to
• 10:56
  the
• 10:56
  comic
• 10:57
  shops
• 10:57
  week
• 10:57
  to
• 10:58
  week,
• 10:58
  you
• 10:58
  know,
• 10:58
  that's
• 10:59
  got
• 10:59
  like
• 11:00
  kind
• 11:00
  of
• 11:00
  fizzled
• 11:01
  out.
• 11:01
  I
• 11:01
  collect
• 11:01
  more
• 11:02
  trades
• 11:02
  and
• 11:02
  stuff
• 11:02
  now,
• 11:03
  but
• 11:03
  I've
• 11:04
  read,
• 11:05
  you
• 11:05
  know,
• 11:05
  hundreds
• 11:06
  of
• 11:06
  different
• 11:07
  independent
• 11:08
  titles
• 11:08
  over
• 11:09
  the
• 11:09
  years
• 11:09
  and,
• 11:10
  and
• 11:10
  avenues
• 11:11
  like
• 11:11
  Humble
• 11:12
  Bundle
• 11:12
  have
• 11:13
  given
• 11:13
  me
• 11:13
  access
• 11:13
  to
• 11:14
  a
• 11:14
  lot
• 11:14
  of
• 11:14
  those
• 11:14
  as
• 11:14
  well.
• 11:15
  So
• 11:16
  there's
• 11:16
  just
• 11:16
  a
• 11:16
  plethora
• 11:17
  of
• 11:17
  stories
• 11:18
  out
• 11:18
  there.
• 11:19
  There's,
• 11:19
  you
• 11:20
  know,
• 11:20
  the
• 11:20
  medium
• 11:20
  has
• 11:21
  really
• 11:21
  evolved
• 11:21
  and
• 11:21
  there's
• 11:22
  a
• 11:22
  lot
• 11:22
  of
• 11:23
  different
• 11:23
  genres
• 11:24
  within
• 11:24
  indie
• 11:25
  books
• 11:25
  and
• 11:26
  some
• 11:26
  of
• 11:26
  my
• 11:26
  favorite
• 11:27
  creators
• 11:27
  are
• 11:27
  all
• 11:27
  of
• 11:27
  them.
• 11:28
  So.
• 11:28
  Yeah,
• 11:28
  so
• 11:29
  anyway,
• 11:29
  it's
• 11:29
  been
• 11:29
  a
• 11:29
  really
• 11:30
  interesting
• 11:30
  evolution
• 11:31
  for
• 11:31
  me
• 11:31
  as
• 11:31
  a
• 11:31
  reader
• 11:32
  and
• 11:32
  just
• 11:32
  for
• 11:33
  comics
• 11:34
  as
• 11:34
  a
• 11:34
  whole,
• 11:35
  you
• 11:35
  know,
• 11:35
  to
• 11:36
  see
• 11:36
  how
• 11:36
  much
• 11:37
  indie
• 11:37
  books
• 11:37
  have
• 11:37
  evolved
• 11:38
  in
• 11:38
  the
• 11:38
  last,
• 11:39
  I
• 11:39
  would
• 11:39
  say
• 11:39
  especially
• 11:41
  15
• 11:41
  years
• 11:41
  or
• 11:42
  so.
• 11:43
  And
• 11:44
  I
• 11:44
  think
• 11:44
  it's
• 11:44
  still
• 11:45
  growing
• 11:45
  and
• 11:45
  now
• 11:45
  we
• 11:46
  have
• 11:46
  more
• 11:46
  adaptations
• 11:48
  of
• 11:49
  these
• 11:49
  stories
• 11:49
  in
• 11:50
  other
• 11:50
  mediums.
• 11:51
  So
• 11:51
  it's
• 11:51
  really
• 11:51
  fascinating
• 11:52
  to
• 11:52
  see.
• 11:52
  Yeah,
• 11:53
  as
• 11:54
  you
• 11:54
  were
• 11:54
  talking,
• 11:54
  it
• 11:54
  was
• 11:55
  coming
• 11:55
  back
• 11:55
  to
• 11:55
  me.
• 11:55
  I
• 11:55
  think
• 11:56
  one
• 11:56
  of,
• 11:56
  if
• 11:56
  not
• 11:56
  the
• 11:56
  first
• 11:57
  books
• 11:57
  that
• 11:57
  got
• 11:58
  me
• 11:58
  to
• 11:58
  branch
• 11:58
  out
• 11:58
  was
• 11:58
  Morning
• 11:59
  Glories.
• 12:00
  Okay.
• 12:01
  Yeah,
• 12:01
  yeah.
• 12:01
  So
• 12:02
  my
• 12:02
  wife
• 12:02
  and
• 12:02
  I
• 12:02
  were
• 12:02
  watching
• 12:03
  Lost
• 12:03
  at
• 12:03
  the
• 12:03
  time
• 12:04
  and
• 12:05
  it
• 12:05
  was
• 12:05
  kind
• 12:05
  of
• 12:05
  pitched
• 12:06
  as
• 12:07
  not
• 12:07
  exactly
• 12:08
  the
• 12:08
  same.
• 12:08
  Right.
• 12:08
  It's
• 12:08
  not
• 12:08
  a
• 12:08
  desert
• 12:09
  island
• 12:09
  or
• 12:09
  anything
• 12:09
  like
• 12:09
  that,
• 12:09
  but
• 12:10
  it's
• 12:10
  a
• 12:10
  kind
• 12:10
  of
• 12:10
  long
• 12:10
  form
• 12:11
  mystery
• 12:12
  storytelling
• 12:14
  kind
• 12:14
  of
• 12:14
  thing.
• 12:15
  And
• 12:16
  one
• 12:16
  of
• 12:16
  the
• 12:18
  bloggers,
• 12:19
  Paul
• 12:19
  o',
• 12:19
  Brien,
• 12:20
  longtime
• 12:21
  X
• 12:21
  Men
• 12:22
  reviewer
• 12:22
  and
• 12:22
  blogger,
• 12:23
  was
• 12:24
  into
• 12:24
  it
• 12:25
  because
• 12:25
  it
• 12:25
  had
• 12:25
  a
• 12:25
  similar
• 12:26
  kind
• 12:26
  of
• 12:26
  dense,
• 12:28
  long
• 12:28
  form
• 12:28
  plotting
• 12:29
  like
• 12:29
  the
• 12:29
  X
• 12:29
  Men.
• 12:30
  And
• 12:31
  ironically
• 12:31
  that
• 12:32
  book
• 12:32
  got
• 12:32
  to
• 12:32
  about
• 12:32
  50
• 12:32
  issues
• 12:33
  out
• 12:33
  of
• 12:33
  a
• 12:33
  planned
• 12:34
  100
• 12:34
  and
• 12:35
  just
• 12:35
  petered
• 12:35
  out.
• 12:36
  So
• 12:37
  we
• 12:37
  were
• 12:38
  all,
• 12:38
  a
• 12:38
  lot
• 12:38
  of
• 12:39
  us
• 12:39
  were
• 12:39
  kind
• 12:39
  of
• 12:39
  heavily
• 12:39
  invested
• 12:40
  in
• 12:41
  these
• 12:41
  very
• 12:41
  dense
• 12:43
  plots
• 12:43
  and
• 12:44
  mystery
• 12:44
  that
• 12:44
  we
• 12:45
  will
• 12:45
  never
• 12:45
  ever
• 12:46
  figure
• 12:46
  out
• 12:46
  what
• 12:47
  the
• 12:47
  end
• 12:47
  of
• 12:47
  that
• 12:47
  was.
• 12:49
  So
• 12:50
  it
• 12:50
  takes
• 12:50
  your
• 12:50
  chances
• 12:51
  with
• 12:51
  some
• 12:51
  of
• 12:51
  these
• 12:51
  indie
• 12:52
  books
• 12:52
  as
• 12:52
  to
• 12:52
  how
• 12:53
  they're
• 12:53
  going
• 12:53
  to
• 12:53
  turn
• 12:53
  out.
• 12:54
  Like
• 12:54
  I
• 12:54
  said,
• 12:54
  Tribe
• 12:55
  was
• 12:55
  a
• 12:55
  book
• 12:55
  I
• 12:56
  was
• 12:56
  really
• 12:56
  invested
• 12:57
  in
• 12:57
  for
• 12:57
  all
• 12:57
  of
• 12:58
  three
• 12:58
  issues.
• 12:59
  And
• 12:59
  that's
• 13:00
  the
• 13:00
  thing
• 13:00
  too
• 13:00
  is
• 13:00
  like,
• 13:01
  yeah,
• 13:01
  we,
• 13:02
  I
• 13:02
  think
• 13:02
  we've
• 13:02
  had
• 13:02
  this
• 13:03
  session
• 13:03
  on
• 13:03
  Saga
• 13:03
  before.
• 13:04
  It's
• 13:04
  like,
• 13:04
  I
• 13:05
  hope
• 13:05
  it
• 13:05
  gets
• 13:05
  to
• 13:07
  the
• 13:07
  planned
• 13:08
  number
• 13:08
  of
• 13:08
  issues
• 13:09
  that
• 13:09
  Brian
• 13:09
  K.
• 13:09
  Vaughan
• 13:10
  and
• 13:10
  Fiona
• 13:10
  Staples
• 13:11
  have
• 13:11
  for
• 13:11
  it.
• 13:12
  But
• 13:12
  yeah,
• 13:13
  we'll
• 13:13
  see
• 13:13
  how
• 13:14
  it
• 13:14
  all
• 13:14
  plays
• 13:14
  out
• 13:14
  because
• 13:14
  we've
• 13:15
  been
• 13:15
  on
• 13:15
  this
• 13:15
  journey
• 13:15
  for
• 13:16
  years
• 13:16
  now.
• 13:17
  And
• 13:18
  that,
• 13:18
  you
• 13:18
  know,
• 13:18
  that
• 13:18
  is
• 13:18
  the.
• 13:19
  Because
• 13:19
  it's
• 13:19
  like
• 13:20
  with
• 13:20
  superhero
• 13:21
  books,
• 13:21
  it's,
• 13:21
  you
• 13:22
  know,
• 13:22
  they're
• 13:23
  meant
• 13:23
  to
• 13:23
  be
• 13:24
  long
• 13:24
  lasting,
• 13:24
  but
• 13:24
  there's
• 13:25
  not
• 13:25
  really
• 13:25
  a
• 13:25
  definitive
• 13:26
  end
• 13:26
  for
• 13:27
  Batman,
• 13:27
  Spider
• 13:28
  Man,
• 13:28
  Superman,
• 13:28
  Wonder
• 13:28
  Woman.
• 13:29
  It's
• 13:30
  more,
• 13:30
  you
• 13:30
  get,
• 13:30
  you
• 13:30
  know,
• 13:31
  different
• 13:31
  eras
• 13:32
  with
• 13:32
  the
• 13:32
  character,
• 13:32
  different
• 13:33
  creators,
• 13:34
  but
• 13:34
  with
• 13:34
  a
• 13:35
  set,
• 13:35
  established
• 13:36
  story
• 13:37
  in
• 13:37
  a
• 13:37
  creator
• 13:38
  owned
• 13:38
  world.
• 13:39
  Yeah,
• 13:39
  you
• 13:40
  are
• 13:41
  very
• 13:41
  devoted
• 13:41
  to
• 13:41
  it
• 13:42
  and
• 13:42
  you
• 13:42
  want
• 13:42
  to
• 13:42
  see
• 13:42
  it
• 13:43
  through
• 13:43
  to
• 13:43
  the
• 13:43
  end
• 13:43
  and
• 13:43
  you
• 13:44
  hope
• 13:44
  that,
• 13:44
  that,
• 13:45
  that
• 13:45
  there
• 13:45
  are
• 13:45
  the
• 13:45
  creators
• 13:46
  are
• 13:46
  able
• 13:46
  to
• 13:47
  carry
• 13:48
  it
• 13:48
  through
• 13:48
  and
• 13:48
  get
• 13:48
  the
• 13:48
  proper
• 13:49
  ending.
• 13:50
  Yeah.
• 13:51
  Awesome.
• 13:52
  Well
• 13:52
  Andy,
• 13:52
  I'm
• 13:53
  very
• 13:53
  excited
• 13:53
  to
• 13:53
  hear
• 13:53
  your
• 13:54
  pick.
• 13:54
  So
• 13:54
  let's
• 13:54
  start
• 13:55
  with
• 13:55
  you
• 13:55
  with
• 13:55
  your
• 13:55
  number
• 13:56
  three.
• 13:56
  So
• 13:56
  this
• 13:57
  is
• 13:57
  a
• 13:57
  character
• 13:58
  that
• 13:58
  is
• 13:59
  somewhat
• 13:59
  iconic
• 14:00
  in
• 14:01
  indie
• 14:01
  comics,
• 14:02
  but
• 14:02
  even
• 14:02
  more
• 14:02
  so
• 14:02
  that's
• 14:03
  relatable
• 14:03
  to
• 14:03
  you.
• 14:04
  So
• 14:04
  what
• 14:04
  is
• 14:04
  your
• 14:04
  number
• 14:05
  three
• 14:05
  pick?
• 14:06
  Yeah,
• 14:06
  so
• 14:06
  for
• 14:07
  number
• 14:07
  three,
• 14:07
  I
• 14:08
  went
• 14:08
  with
• 14:08
  Alex
• 14:09
  from
• 14:09
  Alex
• 14:10
  plus
• 14:10
  Ada
• 14:11
  or
• 14:11
  Alex
• 14:11
  and
• 14:11
  Ada.
• 14:12
  Okay.
• 14:13
  Yeah,
• 14:13
  this
• 14:13
  was
• 14:14
  a
• 14:15
  series
• 14:15
  I
• 14:16
  ran
• 14:17
  Something
• 14:17
  like
• 14:17
  15
• 14:18
  or
• 14:18
  20
• 14:18
  issues.
• 14:18
  I
• 14:18
  think
• 14:19
  it
• 14:19
  was
• 14:19
  from
• 14:20
  Jonathan
• 14:20
  Luna
• 14:20
  and
• 14:21
  Sarah
• 14:21
  Vaughan
• 14:22
  in
• 14:22
  that
• 14:22
  kind
• 14:22
  of
• 14:23
  early,
• 14:25
  early
• 14:26
  period
• 14:26
  that
• 14:26
  I
• 14:26
  started
• 14:27
  reading
• 14:27
  these
• 14:27
  different
• 14:28
  indie
• 14:28
  books.
• 14:28
  So
• 14:29
  mid
• 14:30
  2000s,
• 14:30
  maybe
• 14:31
  later
• 14:31
  in
• 14:31
  that
• 14:31
  decade.
• 14:33
  And
• 14:33
  you
• 14:33
  know,
• 14:34
  it's
• 14:34
  a
• 14:34
  story
• 14:34
  about
• 14:35
  a
• 14:35
  man
• 14:35
  who
• 14:35
  falls
• 14:36
  in
• 14:36
  love
• 14:36
  with
• 14:36
  a
• 14:36
  robot.
• 14:37
  Right.
• 14:37
  So
• 14:38
  it's
• 14:38
  a
• 14:38
  sci
• 14:39
  fi
• 14:39
  story
• 14:39
  about
• 14:40
  a
• 14:40
  world
• 14:40
  where
• 14:40
  you
• 14:40
  can
• 14:41
  purchase
• 14:42
  a
• 14:42
  human
• 14:43
  looking
• 14:44
  and
• 14:44
  acting
• 14:45
  robot
• 14:46
  to
• 14:47
  hassle
• 14:48
  chores
• 14:48
  or
• 14:49
  be
• 14:49
  a
• 14:50
  caregiver
• 14:50
  for
• 14:51
  a
• 14:51
  loved
• 14:51
  one
• 14:51
  who
• 14:52
  might
• 14:52
  need
• 14:53
  that
• 14:53
  kind
• 14:53
  of
• 14:53
  Care
• 14:54
  or
• 14:55
  all
• 14:55
  kinds
• 14:56
  of
• 14:56
  different.
• 14:57
  All
• 14:57
  the
• 14:57
  things
• 14:57
  you
• 14:57
  can
• 14:57
  imagine
• 14:58
  that
• 14:58
  you
• 14:58
  might
• 14:58
  need
• 14:58
  to
• 14:58
  hire
• 14:59
  a
• 14:59
  person
• 15:00
  to
• 15:00
  do.
• 15:00
  You
• 15:01
  can
• 15:01
  now
• 15:01
  purchase
• 15:02
  or
• 15:02
  rent
• 15:03
  or
• 15:04
  what
• 15:04
  have
• 15:05
  you,
• 15:05
  all
• 15:05
  these
• 15:05
  different
• 15:06
  robots.
• 15:06
  And
• 15:07
  so
• 15:08
  Alex
• 15:09
  is
• 15:10
  sort
• 15:11
  of
• 15:11
  roped
• 15:12
  into
• 15:13
  getting
• 15:13
  one
• 15:13
  of
• 15:13
  these
• 15:13
  by
• 15:14
  some
• 15:14
  well
• 15:14
  meaning
• 15:15
  friends
• 15:15
  and,
• 15:15
  or
• 15:15
  family
• 15:16
  who
• 15:16
  don't
• 15:16
  want
• 15:17
  him
• 15:17
  to
• 15:17
  be
• 15:17
  lonely
• 15:18
  and
• 15:18
  think
• 15:18
  that,
• 15:18
  you
• 15:19
  know,
• 15:19
  he
• 15:19
  needs
• 15:19
  some.
• 15:19
  Somebody
• 15:20
  in
• 15:20
  his
• 15:20
  life,
• 15:21
  whether
• 15:21
  that's
• 15:21
  romantic
• 15:22
  or
• 15:22
  otherwise,
• 15:23
  just
• 15:24
  that,
• 15:24
  you
• 15:24
  know,
• 15:24
  they're
• 15:24
  worried
• 15:25
  about
• 15:25
  him
• 15:25
  being
• 15:26
  lonely.
• 15:26
  And
• 15:27
  so
• 15:27
  this,
• 15:27
  this
• 15:27
  female
• 15:28
  robot,
• 15:29
  Ada,
• 15:29
  enters
• 15:29
  his
• 15:29
  life
• 15:30
  somewhat
• 15:32
  by
• 15:32
  surprise
• 15:32
  to
• 15:33
  him.
• 15:34
  And
• 15:35
  over,
• 15:36
  you
• 15:36
  know,
• 15:36
  fairly
• 15:37
  early
• 15:37
  on,
• 15:37
  he
• 15:38
  starts,
• 15:38
  you
• 15:38
  know,
• 15:39
  worrying
• 15:39
  about
• 15:39
  things
• 15:40
  like
• 15:40
  autonomy
• 15:41
  and,
• 15:42
  you
• 15:42
  know,
• 15:42
  learns
• 15:43
  that
• 15:43
  there
• 15:43
  are
• 15:43
  robots
• 15:44
  who
• 15:44
  have
• 15:45
  become
• 15:45
  autonomous
• 15:46
  and
• 15:46
  are
• 15:46
  fighting
• 15:46
  for
• 15:47
  robot
• 15:47
  rights
• 15:47
  and
• 15:47
  so
• 15:47
  forth.
• 15:48
  And
• 15:48
  so
• 15:49
  he
• 15:49
  ultimately
• 15:49
  goes
• 15:50
  down
• 15:50
  the
• 15:50
  route
• 15:50
  of
• 15:51
  going
• 15:52
  through
• 15:52
  the
• 15:53
  jailbreaking
• 15:54
  process
• 15:54
  essentially
• 15:54
  to
• 15:55
  make
• 15:55
  ADA
• 15:56
  an
• 15:56
  autonomous
• 15:57
  robot.
• 15:58
  And
• 15:59
  what
• 16:00
  follows
• 16:00
  then
• 16:00
  is
• 16:00
  how
• 16:00
  their
• 16:01
  relationship
• 16:01
  develops.
• 16:04
  The
• 16:04
  trouble,
• 16:04
  obviously,
• 16:04
  that
• 16:05
  we
• 16:05
  can
• 16:05
  imagine
• 16:06
  that
• 16:06
  they
• 16:06
  might
• 16:06
  get
• 16:06
  into
• 16:06
  with
• 16:07
  the
• 16:07
  company
• 16:07
  and
• 16:08
  the
• 16:08
  government
• 16:08
  and
• 16:08
  all
• 16:08
  these
• 16:09
  different
• 16:09
  things,
• 16:09
  the
• 16:09
  tensions
• 16:10
  over
• 16:10
  robot
• 16:11
  rights.
• 16:12
  In
• 16:12
  some
• 16:12
  ways,
• 16:13
  there
• 16:13
  were
• 16:13
  echoes
• 16:14
  of
• 16:14
  some
• 16:14
  of
• 16:15
  the
• 16:15
  same
• 16:15
  themes
• 16:15
  in
• 16:15
  the
• 16:16
  Electric
• 16:16
  State
• 16:16
  last
• 16:17
  year,
• 16:17
  that
• 16:17
  film
• 16:17
  with
• 16:18
  Chris
• 16:18
  Pratt
• 16:18
  and
• 16:19
  Millie
• 16:19
  Bobby
• 16:19
  Brown.
• 16:21
  And
• 16:21
  obviously
• 16:22
  all
• 16:23
  of
• 16:23
  our
• 16:23
  conversations
• 16:24
  these
• 16:24
  days
• 16:24
  seem
• 16:24
  to
• 16:25
  center
• 16:25
  around
• 16:26
  AI
• 16:27
  and
• 16:27
  is
• 16:27
  AI
• 16:28
  conscious?
• 16:28
  Will
• 16:28
  it
• 16:28
  be
• 16:29
  conscious?
• 16:30
  What
• 16:30
  kind
• 16:30
  of
• 16:30
  rights
• 16:30
  should
• 16:31
  we
• 16:31
  give
• 16:31
  to
• 16:31
  these
• 16:31
  large
• 16:31
  language
• 16:32
  models,
• 16:32
  so
• 16:32
  forth.
• 16:32
  So
• 16:32
  it
• 16:32
  was
• 16:33
  a
• 16:33
  very
• 16:34
  prescient
• 16:34
  book
• 16:34
  in
• 16:34
  that
• 16:35
  regard,
• 16:36
  but
• 16:36
  yeah.
• 16:36
  And
• 16:38
  how
• 16:38
  much
• 16:38
  do
• 16:38
  I
• 16:39
  relate
• 16:39
  to
• 16:39
  Alex
• 16:40
  somewhat?
• 16:41
  I
• 16:41
  mean,
• 16:41
  he
• 16:41
  was
• 16:41
  definitely
• 16:44
  kind
• 16:44
  of
• 16:45
  in
• 16:45
  every
• 16:46
  everyman
• 16:46
  kind
• 16:46
  of
• 16:47
  character,
• 16:48
  you
• 16:48
  know,
• 16:48
  just
• 16:48
  sort
• 16:48
  of
• 16:49
  going
• 16:49
  about
• 16:49
  a
• 16:50
  typical
• 16:50
  job,
• 16:50
  a
• 16:50
  typical,
• 16:51
  you
• 16:51
  know,
• 16:52
  typical,
• 16:52
  you
• 16:53
  know,
• 16:53
  sort
• 16:53
  of
• 16:53
  middle
• 16:53
  class
• 16:54
  suburban
• 16:54
  life
• 16:56
  and
• 16:56
  kind
• 16:56
  of
• 16:56
  gets
• 16:57
  caught
• 16:57
  up
• 16:57
  in
• 16:58
  trying
• 16:58
  to
• 16:58
  figure
• 16:59
  out
• 16:59
  how
• 16:59
  to
• 16:59
  be
• 17:00
  an
• 17:00
  ally.
• 17:01
  And
• 17:02
  I,
• 17:02
  you
• 17:03
  know,
• 17:03
  you
• 17:03
  can
• 17:04
  decide
• 17:05
  for
• 17:05
  yourself,
• 17:05
  you
• 17:06
  know,
• 17:06
  how
• 17:06
  well
• 17:06
  I
• 17:06
  do
• 17:07
  in
• 17:07
  these
• 17:07
  different
• 17:07
  things.
• 17:07
  But,
• 17:07
  you
• 17:08
  know,
• 17:08
  it's
• 17:08
  certainly
• 17:08
  something
• 17:08
  that
• 17:09
  I
• 17:10
  would
• 17:10
  like
• 17:10
  to
• 17:11
  be
• 17:11
  better
• 17:11
  at
• 17:11
  is,
• 17:11
  you
• 17:12
  know,
• 17:12
  caring
• 17:12
  not
• 17:12
  just
• 17:12
  about
• 17:13
  my
• 17:13
  own
• 17:14
  needs
• 17:14
  and
• 17:14
  my
• 17:14
  own
• 17:14
  concerns,
• 17:15
  but
• 17:15
  the
• 17:15
  things
• 17:16
  that
• 17:16
  affect
• 17:16
  other
• 17:16
  people
• 17:16
  disproportionately
• 17:18
  compared
• 17:18
  to
• 17:19
  myself.
• 17:19
  And,
• 17:20
  you
• 17:20
  know,
• 17:20
  I
• 17:20
  think
• 17:21
  there's
• 17:21
  something
• 17:22
  to
• 17:22
  be
• 17:22
  said
• 17:23
  about
• 17:23
  a
• 17:23
  character
• 17:23
  for
• 17:23
  all
• 17:24
  of
• 17:24
  his
• 17:24
  other
• 17:24
  flaws
• 17:25
  and
• 17:25
  whatnot,
• 17:26
  that,
• 17:27
  you
• 17:27
  know,
• 17:27
  kind
• 17:27
  of
• 17:28
  the
• 17:28
  core
• 17:28
  choice
• 17:28
  of
• 17:29
  the
• 17:29
  book
• 17:29
  was,
• 17:29
  you
• 17:29
  know,
• 17:30
  he
• 17:30
  had
• 17:30
  the
• 17:30
  opportunity
• 17:31
  to
• 17:31
  decide
• 17:31
  between
• 17:32
  his
• 17:32
  own
• 17:34
  will
• 17:34
  and
• 17:34
  his
• 17:35
  own
• 17:35
  wants
• 17:35
  and
• 17:35
  his
• 17:35
  own
• 17:36
  gratification
• 17:36
  or
• 17:37
  those
• 17:37
  of
• 17:37
  someone
• 17:38
  else
• 17:38
  in
• 17:38
  particular,
• 17:38
  those
• 17:39
  of
• 17:40
  the
• 17:40
  agency
• 17:40
  of
• 17:40
  a
• 17:41
  character
• 17:41
  or
• 17:41
  a
• 17:42
  person
• 17:42
  who
• 17:43
  is
• 17:43
  female
• 17:44
  coded.
• 17:44
  We
• 17:44
  can
• 17:44
  talk
• 17:44
  about,
• 17:45
  you
• 17:45
  know,
• 17:45
  how
• 17:45
  gender
• 17:46
  applies
• 17:46
  to
• 17:46
  robots
• 17:47
  and
• 17:47
  whatnot,
• 17:47
  but,
• 17:47
  you
• 17:48
  know,
• 17:48
  certainly
• 17:50
  presents
• 17:50
  in
• 17:50
  a
• 17:51
  very
• 17:51
  traditional
• 17:51
  female
• 17:52
  fashion,
• 17:52
  and
• 17:52
  he
• 17:53
  chooses
• 17:53
  her
• 17:54
  agency,
• 17:54
  and
• 17:54
  I
• 17:55
  think
• 17:55
  that's
• 17:55
  a
• 17:56
  worthwhile
• 17:57
  kind
• 17:57
  of
• 17:57
  story
• 17:58
  to
• 17:58
  explore,
• 17:59
  so
• 18:00
  that's
• 18:00
  why
• 18:00
  I
• 18:00
  wound
• 18:00
  up
• 18:00
  picking
• 18:01
  that
• 18:01
  one.
• 18:01
  Excellent
• 18:02
  pick.
• 18:02
  I
• 18:02
  know
• 18:03
  that
• 18:03
  title.
• 18:03
  Unfortunately,
• 18:03
  it's
• 18:04
  not
• 18:04
  one
• 18:04
  I've
• 18:04
  read
• 18:04
  yet,
• 18:05
  but
• 18:06
  who
• 18:06
  are
• 18:06
  the
• 18:06
  creators
• 18:07
  on
• 18:07
  that
• 18:07
  one?
• 18:07
  Yeah,
• 18:08
  so
• 18:08
  it's
• 18:08
  Jonathan
• 18:08
  Luna
• 18:09
  and
• 18:09
  Sarah
• 18:09
  Vaughan.
• 18:10
  Gotcha,
• 18:11
  gotcha,
• 18:11
  gotcha.
• 18:12
  Yeah,
• 18:12
  yeah.
• 18:13
  No,
• 18:13
  I
• 18:13
  mean,
• 18:13
  there's
• 18:14
  a
• 18:14
  lot
• 18:14
  of
• 18:14
  good
• 18:15
  sci
• 18:15
  fi
• 18:15
  comics
• 18:16
  I've
• 18:16
  read
• 18:16
  over
• 18:16
  the
• 18:17
  years,
• 18:17
  and
• 18:17
  that's
• 18:18
  certainly
• 18:18
  on
• 18:18
  my
• 18:19
  list,
• 18:19
  but
• 18:20
  excellent
• 18:20
  pick.
• 18:21
  Yeah.
• 18:21
  I
• 18:21
  mean,
• 18:21
  like
• 18:22
  you
• 18:22
  said,
• 18:22
  it's.
• 18:22
  It's
• 18:23
  so
• 18:23
  relevant
• 18:24
  today
• 18:25
  with
• 18:25
  the
• 18:25
  rise
• 18:25
  of
• 18:26
  AI
• 18:26
  and
• 18:26
  how
• 18:27
  rapidly
• 18:27
  things
• 18:27
  are
• 18:28
  changing
• 18:29
  and.
• 18:29
  Yeah.
• 18:30
  I
• 18:30
  mean,
• 18:30
  there's
• 18:30
  a
• 18:30
  lot
• 18:30
  of
• 18:30
  Jeff
• 18:30
  Lemire
• 18:31
  stories
• 18:32
  that
• 18:32
  I've
• 18:32
  read,
• 18:33
  too,
• 18:33
  that
• 18:33
  have
• 18:34
  similar
• 18:34
  themes,
• 18:36
  and
• 18:36
  so,
• 18:36
  yeah,
• 18:36
  it's
• 18:37
  a
• 18:37
  great
• 18:37
  pick.
• 18:38
  Yeah,
• 18:38
  I,
• 18:38
  you
• 18:39
  know,
• 18:40
  Descender,
• 18:41
  Descendant,
• 18:41
  and
• 18:42
  Ascendant
• 18:42
  were
• 18:42
  definitely
• 18:43
  in.
• 18:44
  Yes.
• 18:44
  In
• 18:44
  my
• 18:44
  contention
• 18:45
  for,
• 18:45
  you
• 18:46
  know,
• 18:46
  with
• 18:46
  a
• 18:46
  similar
• 18:46
  kind
• 18:47
  of
• 18:47
  theme.
• 18:47
  So
• 18:48
  that
• 18:48
  Descender
• 18:49
  is
• 18:49
  fantastic.
• 18:49
  Like,
• 18:50
  I
• 18:50
  mean,
• 18:50
  I.
• 18:51
  It
• 18:51
  was
• 18:51
  like,
• 18:51
  I
• 18:52
  was.
• 18:52
  I
• 18:52
  was
• 18:52
  thinking
• 18:52
  through
• 18:53
  some
• 18:53
  of
• 18:53
  the
• 18:53
  Lemuria
• 18:53
  books,
• 18:54
  and
• 18:54
  I
• 18:54
  love
• 18:54
  those
• 18:55
  stories.
• 18:55
  It
• 18:55
  just
• 18:55
  wasn't.
• 18:56
  There
• 18:56
  wasn't
• 18:56
  any
• 18:56
  sticking
• 18:57
  out
• 18:57
  to
• 18:57
  me
• 18:57
  in
• 18:57
  terms
• 18:57
  of,
• 18:57
  like,
• 18:58
  oh,
• 18:58
  I
• 18:58
  really
• 18:58
  relate
• 18:59
  to
• 18:59
  that
• 18:59
  character.
• 19:00
  Yeah.
• 19:00
  Not
• 19:00
  that
• 19:00
  they're
• 19:01
  having.
• 19:01
  They're
• 19:01
  wonderful
• 19:01
  characters.
• 19:02
  It
• 19:02
  was
• 19:02
  just
• 19:02
  like,
• 19:03
  I
• 19:03
  just
• 19:03
  love
• 19:03
  the
• 19:03
  stories,
• 19:04
  but.
• 19:05
  But,
• 19:05
  yeah,
• 19:05
  That's
• 19:06
  a
• 19:06
  great
• 19:06
  book,
• 19:06
  though.
• 19:06
  Yeah.
• 19:07
  Same.
• 19:07
  Even
• 19:08
  even
• 19:08
  though
• 19:08
  one
• 19:08
  of
• 19:08
  them
• 19:08
  was
• 19:09
  named
• 19:09
  Andy,
• 19:09
  it
• 19:09
  was
• 19:09
  just
• 19:10
  like,
• 19:10
  I'm
• 19:10
  sure
• 19:10
  that
• 19:10
  any
• 19:11
  of
• 19:11
  these
• 19:11
  are.
• 19:11
  Are
• 19:12
  me.
• 19:13
  Right,
• 19:14
  Right.
• 19:15
  Oh,
• 19:15
  yeah.
• 19:15
  No,
• 19:16
  I
• 19:16
  mean,
• 19:16
  like,
• 19:17
  there's
• 19:18
  ones.
• 19:18
  It's
• 19:18
  like,
• 19:18
  okay,
• 19:18
  I
• 19:19
  have
• 19:19
  a
• 19:19
  little
• 19:19
  bit
• 19:19
  of
• 19:19
  a
• 19:19
  trait
• 19:20
  there.
• 19:20
  But,
• 19:21
  yeah,
• 19:21
  a
• 19:21
  lot
• 19:21
  of
• 19:21
  these
• 19:22
  stories,
• 19:22
  it's
• 19:22
  more.
• 19:23
  I'm
• 19:23
  just
• 19:23
  attracted
• 19:24
  to
• 19:24
  the
• 19:24
  story
• 19:24
  itself
• 19:25
  more
• 19:26
  than,
• 19:26
  oh,
• 19:26
  I
• 19:26
  relate
• 19:27
  to
• 19:27
  this
• 19:27
  person.
• 19:27
  Yeah.
• 19:28
  Yeah.
• 19:28
  But,
• 19:28
  yeah.
• 19:28
  Yeah.
• 19:29
  Awesome.
• 19:30
  Well,
• 19:30
  great
• 19:30
  pick,
• 19:30
  Andy.
• 19:31
  So,
• 19:32
  yeah,
• 19:32
  I
• 19:33
  was
• 19:33
  just
• 19:33
  going
• 19:33
  to.
• 19:33
  Ask
• 19:33
  what
• 19:33
  your
• 19:34
  number
• 19:34
  three
• 19:34
  was,
• 19:34
  so
• 19:34
  go
• 19:34
  ahead.
• 19:35
  Yeah,
• 19:36
  absolutely.
• 19:36
  So
• 19:37
  my
• 19:37
  number
• 19:37
  three
• 19:38
  is
• 19:38
  actually
• 19:38
  a
• 19:39
  character
• 19:39
  I
• 19:39
  was
• 19:39
  introduced
• 19:40
  to
• 19:40
  through
• 19:40
  a
• 19:41
  movie,
• 19:42
  ironically,
• 19:42
  which.
• 19:43
  Because,
• 19:43
  you
• 19:43
  know,
• 19:44
  at
• 19:45
  a
• 19:45
  young
• 19:45
  age,
• 19:45
  too.
• 19:46
  And
• 19:46
  so
• 19:47
  I
• 19:47
  remember
• 19:48
  when
• 19:48
  I
• 19:48
  first
• 19:48
  saw
• 19:49
  the
• 19:49
  Guillermo
• 19:49
  del
• 19:49
  Toro
• 19:50
  Hellboy
• 19:50
  movies.
• 19:51
  Well,
• 19:52
  first
• 19:52
  I
• 19:52
  had
• 19:52
  to
• 19:53
  convince
• 19:54
  my
• 19:54
  parents
• 19:54
  to
• 19:55
  let
• 19:55
  me
• 19:56
  order
• 19:56
  it
• 19:57
  on
• 19:57
  Netflix
• 19:57
  back
• 19:57
  in
• 19:58
  the
• 19:58
  days
• 19:58
  when
• 19:58
  Netflix
• 19:59
  sent
• 19:59
  you
• 19:59
  discs,
• 20:00
  you
• 20:01
  know,
• 20:01
  before
• 20:02
  streaming.
• 20:02
  But
• 20:02
  I
• 20:03
  asked
• 20:03
  if
• 20:03
  they
• 20:03
  could
• 20:03
  add
• 20:04
  that
• 20:04
  to
• 20:04
  the
• 20:04
  queue,
• 20:05
  and
• 20:05
  they
• 20:06
  were
• 20:06
  terrified
• 20:06
  that
• 20:07
  it
• 20:07
  was
• 20:07
  some
• 20:07
  kind
• 20:07
  of,
• 20:07
  like,
• 20:08
  satanic,
• 20:08
  you
• 20:09
  know,
• 20:09
  cult
• 20:09
  movie.
• 20:09
  And
• 20:09
  I
• 20:10
  was
• 20:10
  like,
• 20:10
  no,
• 20:10
  it's
• 20:10
  just
• 20:11
  like,
• 20:11
  you
• 20:11
  know,
• 20:12
  it's
• 20:12
  a
• 20:12
  PG13
• 20:12
  superhero
• 20:13
  movie,
• 20:14
  but
• 20:14
  from
• 20:15
  the
• 20:15
  first
• 20:15
  time
• 20:15
  I
• 20:15
  saw
• 20:16
  that
• 20:16
  movie,
• 20:16
  and
• 20:16
  even
• 20:16
  though
• 20:17
  I
• 20:17
  read
• 20:17
  the
• 20:17
  comics
• 20:18
  later
• 20:18
  on,
• 20:19
  I
• 20:19
  was
• 20:19
  really
• 20:20
  gravitated
• 20:20
  toward
• 20:21
  the
• 20:21
  character
• 20:21
  of
• 20:21
  Abe
• 20:22
  Sapien,
• 20:22
  who
• 20:23
  in
• 20:23
  the
• 20:23
  movie
• 20:23
  is
• 20:24
  played
• 20:24
  by
• 20:24
  Doug
• 20:25
  Jones.
• 20:26
  And
• 20:26
  there's
• 20:27
  a
• 20:27
  lot.
• 20:27
  I
• 20:27
  mean,
• 20:27
  while
• 20:27
  the
• 20:28
  Del
• 20:28
  Toro
• 20:28
  movies
• 20:29
  are
• 20:29
  very
• 20:30
  much
• 20:30
  distinctive
• 20:31
  vision
• 20:32
  from.
• 20:32
  From
• 20:33
  the
• 20:33
  director
• 20:33
  and,
• 20:34
  yeah,
• 20:34
  they're
• 20:34
  different
• 20:34
  from
• 20:35
  the
• 20:35
  comics,
• 20:35
  I
• 20:36
  would
• 20:36
  say
• 20:36
  the
• 20:36
  characters
• 20:36
  themselves
• 20:37
  are
• 20:37
  pretty
• 20:38
  brought
• 20:39
  to
• 20:39
  life
• 20:39
  from
• 20:40
  the
• 20:40
  pages.
• 20:40
  I
• 20:40
  mean,
• 20:40
  they're
• 20:41
  a
• 20:41
  lot
• 20:41
  of
• 20:41
  the
• 20:41
  same
• 20:42
  personality
• 20:42
  traits
• 20:43
  and
• 20:43
  quirks
• 20:43
  and
• 20:43
  everything.
• 20:44
  And
• 20:44
  so
• 20:44
  Ape
• 20:45
  Sapien
• 20:45
  is
• 20:45
  this
• 20:46
  Creature
• 20:46
  from
• 20:47
  the
• 20:47
  Black
• 20:47
  Lagoon
• 20:48
  type
• 20:49
  partner
• 20:50
  to
• 20:50
  Hellboy,
• 20:51
  who
• 20:51
  works
• 20:51
  with
• 20:52
  them
• 20:52
  in
• 20:52
  the.
• 20:53
  In
• 20:53
  the
• 20:53
  bprd,
• 20:54
  the
• 20:55
  Bureau
• 20:55
  for
• 20:56
  Paranormal
• 20:56
  Research
• 20:57
  and
• 20:57
  Defense.
• 20:57
  And
• 20:58
  he's
• 20:58
  sort
• 20:59
  of
• 20:59
  the
• 20:59
  more
• 21:01
  calm,
• 21:02
  resonating
• 21:02
  spirit
• 21:03
  to
• 21:03
  Hellboy's
• 21:04
  more
• 21:05
  gung
• 21:06
  ho
• 21:06
  and
• 21:07
  rash,
• 21:08
  you
• 21:08
  know,
• 21:08
  fighter
• 21:09
  mentality.
• 21:10
  Abe
• 21:10
  Sapien
• 21:11
  is
• 21:11
  the
• 21:12
  more
• 21:12
  bookworm.
• 21:13
  He
• 21:14
  has
• 21:14
  a
• 21:15
  good
• 21:15
  relationship
• 21:15
  with
• 21:16
  the
• 21:16
  professor.
• 21:17
  And
• 21:18
  I
• 21:18
  just
• 21:18
  love
• 21:18
  the
• 21:18
  aesthetic
• 21:19
  of
• 21:19
  the
• 21:20
  character,
• 21:20
  both
• 21:20
  in
• 21:20
  the
• 21:21
  comics
• 21:21
  and
• 21:21
  in
• 21:21
  the
• 21:21
  movie.
• 21:22
  So
• 21:22
  it
• 21:22
  was
• 21:23
  a
• 21:23
  character
• 21:23
  who
• 21:23
  really
• 21:24
  stuck
• 21:24
  out
• 21:24
  to
• 21:24
  me
• 21:25
  early
• 21:25
  on
• 21:26
  in
• 21:26
  that
• 21:26
  movie.
• 21:26
  I
• 21:26
  love
• 21:27
  Doug
• 21:27
  Jones
• 21:27
  performance.
• 21:28
  And
• 21:28
  then
• 21:28
  later
• 21:29
  on
• 21:29
  when
• 21:29
  I
• 21:29
  read
• 21:29
  the
• 21:30
  comics,
• 21:30
  because,
• 21:31
  of
• 21:31
  course,
• 21:31
  that's
• 21:31
  how
• 21:31
  Hellboy
• 21:32
  originated
• 21:33
  in
• 21:33
  the
• 21:33
  Dark
• 21:33
  Horse
• 21:34
  comics
• 21:34
  created
• 21:34
  by
• 21:35
  Mike
• 21:35
  Mignola.
• 21:36
  And
• 21:36
  Abe
• 21:37
  Sapien,
• 21:38
  I
• 21:38
  think,
• 21:38
  first
• 21:38
  appeared
• 21:39
  in
• 21:39
  the
• 21:39
  bprd,
• 21:40
  but
• 21:40
  then
• 21:40
  he
• 21:40
  got
• 21:41
  his
• 21:41
  own
• 21:41
  book
• 21:41
  later
• 21:42
  on,
• 21:42
  which
• 21:42
  I
• 21:42
  actually
• 21:43
  read
• 21:43
  the
• 21:43
  first
• 21:44
  volume
• 21:44
  of
• 21:44
  not
• 21:45
  too
• 21:45
  long
• 21:45
  ago
• 21:45
  and
• 21:46
  really
• 21:46
  enjoyed
• 21:47
  it.
• 21:47
  And
• 21:47
  so
• 21:48
  you're
• 21:48
  seeing
• 21:48
  Abe
• 21:49
  go
• 21:49
  on
• 21:49
  a
• 21:49
  solo
• 21:50
  mission,
• 21:50
  and
• 21:51
  he
• 21:51
  kind
• 21:51
  of
• 21:51
  doubts
• 21:51
  himself
• 21:52
  at
• 21:52
  first,
• 21:53
  but
• 21:53
  is
• 21:53
  able
• 21:53
  to
• 21:54
  be
• 21:54
  the
• 21:55
  hero
• 21:55
  there.
• 21:56
  Yeah,
• 21:56
  I
• 21:56
  always
• 21:57
  just
• 21:57
  really
• 21:57
  like
• 21:57
  the
• 21:57
  character
• 21:58
  as
• 21:58
  someone
• 21:59
  who
• 22:00
  is,
• 22:00
  you
• 22:01
  know,
• 22:01
  a
• 22:01
  really
• 22:01
  faithful,
• 22:02
  loyal
• 22:03
  sidekick,
• 22:04
  but
• 22:04
  also
• 22:04
  a
• 22:05
  hero
• 22:05
  within
• 22:05
  his
• 22:05
  own
• 22:06
  right.
• 22:07
  He
• 22:07
  has
• 22:07
  intelligence,
• 22:08
  he
• 22:09
  has
• 22:09
  empathy.
• 22:11
  You
• 22:11
  know,
• 22:11
  there's
• 22:11
  a
• 22:11
  humorous
• 22:12
  element
• 22:12
  in
• 22:13
  the
• 22:13
  Del
• 22:13
  Toro
• 22:14
  films
• 22:14
  that
• 22:15
  I
• 22:15
  really
• 22:15
  liked.
• 22:16
  And,
• 22:16
  yeah,
• 22:16
  this
• 22:17
  was
• 22:17
  just
• 22:17
  a
• 22:17
  character
• 22:18
  that
• 22:19
  I
• 22:19
  always
• 22:21
  was
• 22:21
  really
• 22:21
  fascinated
• 22:22
  by.
• 22:23
  And
• 22:23
  again,
• 22:23
  the
• 22:24
  whole
• 22:24
  Creature
• 22:24
  from
• 22:24
  the
• 22:25
  Black
• 22:25
  Lagoon
• 22:26
  amphibian
• 22:27
  aspect
• 22:27
  to
• 22:27
  him
• 22:28
  was
• 22:28
  just
• 22:28
  such
• 22:28
  a
• 22:29
  cool
• 22:29
  image.
• 22:30
  And
• 22:30
  it
• 22:30
  looks
• 22:31
  great
• 22:31
  in
• 22:31
  the
• 22:31
  comics.
• 22:31
  And
• 22:32
  so,
• 22:33
  yeah,
• 22:33
  I
• 22:34
  have
• 22:34
  a
• 22:34
  big
• 22:34
  collection
• 22:35
  of
• 22:35
  Hellboy
• 22:35
  stuff
• 22:35
  from
• 22:36
  a
• 22:36
  Humble
• 22:36
  bundle,
• 22:36
  actually.
• 22:38
  I've
• 22:38
  got
• 22:38
  a
• 22:38
  lot
• 22:38
  of
• 22:38
  the
• 22:38
  books
• 22:39
  in
• 22:39
  physical
• 22:39
  media
• 22:39
  as
• 22:40
  well,
• 22:40
  but
• 22:40
  I
• 22:40
  have,
• 22:40
  like,
• 22:41
  Hellboy
• 22:41
  BBRD
• 22:42
  and
• 22:42
  Ape
• 22:42
  Sapien
• 22:43
  all
• 22:44
  in
• 22:44
  Humble
• 22:44
  Bundle
• 22:45
  there.
• 22:45
  And
• 22:45
  it's
• 22:46
  great
• 22:46
  just
• 22:46
  going
• 22:46
  through
• 22:47
  those
• 22:47
  stories.
• 22:47
  And.
• 22:48
  Yeah,
• 22:49
  I
• 22:49
  mean,
• 22:49
  there's
• 22:49
  not
• 22:49
  too
• 22:50
  much
• 22:50
  to
• 22:50
  say
• 22:50
  is
• 22:51
  just
• 22:51
  I.
• 22:51
  I
• 22:52
  think
• 22:53
  about
• 22:53
  myself,
• 22:53
  like,
• 22:53
  at
• 22:54
  work
• 22:54
  and
• 22:54
  stuff
• 22:55
  like
• 22:55
  that
• 22:55
  and
• 22:55
  in
• 22:55
  situations
• 22:56
  and.
• 22:56
  I
• 22:57
  don't
• 22:57
  know,
• 22:57
  I
• 22:57
  feel
• 22:57
  like
• 22:57
  I
• 22:58
  try
• 22:59
  to
• 22:59
  be
• 22:59
  that
• 22:59
  more
• 23:00
  calming
• 23:00
  presence,
• 23:01
  especially
• 23:01
  when
• 23:02
  Things
• 23:02
  get
• 23:02
  heated
• 23:02
  or
• 23:03
  when
• 23:03
  someone
• 23:04
  is
• 23:04
  doing
• 23:05
  something
• 23:05
  rash.
• 23:06
  Not
• 23:06
  that
• 23:06
  I
• 23:06
  don't
• 23:07
  have
• 23:07
  those.
• 23:08
  Also
• 23:09
  those
• 23:10
  tendencies,
• 23:10
  you
• 23:11
  know,
• 23:11
  in
• 23:11
  certain
• 23:11
  situations.
• 23:12
  But
• 23:13
  generally
• 23:13
  I'm
• 23:14
  kind
• 23:14
  of
• 23:15
  the
• 23:15
  one
• 23:15
  who
• 23:15
  can
• 23:16
  take
• 23:16
  a
• 23:16
  step
• 23:16
  back,
• 23:17
  help
• 23:17
  keep
• 23:17
  everyone
• 23:18
  level
• 23:18
  headed
• 23:19
  and
• 23:20
  kind
• 23:20
  of
• 23:20
  move
• 23:20
  at
• 23:20
  that
• 23:20
  pace.
• 23:21
  And
• 23:21
  so,
• 23:21
  you
• 23:21
  know,
• 23:22
  Abe
• 23:22
  Sapien
• 23:22
  is
• 23:23
  very
• 23:23
  much
• 23:23
  that
• 23:23
  kind
• 23:23
  of
• 23:23
  guy.
• 23:24
  So
• 23:25
  just
• 23:25
  an
• 23:25
  all
• 23:25
  around
• 23:26
  cool
• 23:26
  dude.
• 23:26
  One
• 23:26
  of
• 23:26
  my
• 23:27
  favorite
• 23:27
  fantasy
• 23:28
  creatures
• 23:29
  in
• 23:29
  comics
• 23:29
  and
• 23:29
  in
• 23:30
  fiction
• 23:31
  and.
• 23:31
  Yeah,
• 23:32
  so
• 23:32
  it
• 23:32
  is
• 23:33
  an
• 23:33
  interesting
• 23:33
  one
• 23:33
  that
• 23:34
  it
• 23:34
  was
• 23:34
  first
• 23:35
  introduced
• 23:35
  to
• 23:35
  me
• 23:36
  as,
• 23:37
  like
• 23:37
  I
• 23:37
  said,
• 23:37
  a
• 23:38
  middle
• 23:38
  schooler
• 23:39
  through
• 23:39
  a
• 23:39
  movie,
• 23:40
  but
• 23:41
  that
• 23:41
  instantly
• 23:42
  stuck
• 23:42
  out
• 23:42
  to
• 23:43
  me
• 23:43
  and
• 23:44
  later
• 23:44
  on
• 23:44
  as
• 23:45
  I
• 23:45
  got
• 23:45
  into
• 23:45
  the
• 23:45
  comics,
• 23:46
  I
• 23:46
  loved
• 23:47
  him
• 23:47
  just
• 23:47
  as
• 23:47
  much
• 23:47
  there.
• 23:48
  Very
• 23:48
  cool.
• 23:49
  Andy.
• 23:50
  I
• 23:50
  don't
• 23:50
  know
• 23:50
  if
• 23:50
  you
• 23:50
  have
• 23:50
  any,
• 23:50
  like,
• 23:51
  background
• 23:51
  with
• 23:51
  Hellboy
• 23:52
  or
• 23:53
  with
• 23:53
  the
• 23:53
  comics
• 23:54
  or
• 23:54
  anything
• 23:54
  like
• 23:54
  that.
• 23:55
  Yeah,
• 23:55
  so
• 23:55
  I
• 23:56
  also
• 23:56
  learned
• 23:56
  about
• 23:56
  Hellboy
• 23:57
  through
• 23:57
  that
• 23:57
  first
• 23:58
  movie.
• 23:59
  You
• 23:59
  know,
• 24:00
  an
• 24:00
  excellent
• 24:00
  movie.
• 24:01
  Possibly
• 24:02
  my
• 24:02
  favorite
• 24:02
  Del
• 24:02
  Toro
• 24:03
  movie
• 24:04
  because
• 24:04
  it's
• 24:04
  got,
• 24:05
  you
• 24:05
  know,
• 24:05
  it's
• 24:05
  not
• 24:06
  all
• 24:06
  horror.
• 24:07
  It's.
• 24:07
  It's
• 24:07
  got
• 24:07
  the.
• 24:08
  And
• 24:08
  fantasy.
• 24:08
  It's.
• 24:09
  It's
• 24:09
  got
• 24:09
  some
• 24:09
  sci
• 24:09
  fi
• 24:10
  and,
• 24:11
  you
• 24:11
  know,
• 24:11
  some
• 24:11
  Indiana
• 24:11
  Jones
• 24:12
  esque
• 24:12
  Nazi
• 24:13
  fighting
• 24:14
  and.
• 24:15
  Yeah,
• 24:15
  so
• 24:15
  there's
• 24:16
  a
• 24:16
  lot
• 24:16
  to
• 24:16
  like
• 24:16
  there.
• 24:17
  You
• 24:17
  know,
• 24:17
  Ron
• 24:17
  Perlman
• 24:18
  is
• 24:18
  fantastic
• 24:19
  as
• 24:21
  Hellboy,
• 24:21
  and.
• 24:22
  Yeah.
• 24:22
  And
• 24:22
  Doug
• 24:22
  Jones
• 24:23
  as
• 24:23
  Abe
• 24:24
  Sapien
• 24:24
  is
• 24:24
  another
• 24:25
  standout.
• 24:25
  Now,
• 24:26
  why
• 24:26
  do
• 24:26
  I
• 24:26
  hear
• 24:27
  David
• 24:28
  Hyde
• 24:28
  Pierce's
• 24:29
  voice
• 24:29
  in
• 24:29
  my
• 24:29
  head
• 24:29
  with
• 24:29
  Ape
• 24:30
  Sapien?
• 24:31
  Am
• 24:31
  I
• 24:31
  completely
• 24:32
  inventing
• 24:32
  that
• 24:33
  or
• 24:34
  was
• 24:34
  it
• 24:35
  Doug
• 24:35
  Jones
• 24:35
  doing
• 24:35
  the,
• 24:36
  like,
• 24:36
  physical
• 24:36
  performance
• 24:37
  and
• 24:38
  David
• 24:38
  Hyde
• 24:38
  Pierce
• 24:39
  providing
• 24:39
  the
• 24:39
  voice?
• 24:40
  Or
• 24:40
  am
• 24:40
  I
• 24:40
  just
• 24:40
  hallucinating?
• 24:43
  I've
• 24:43
  got
• 24:43
  to
• 24:43
  look
• 24:43
  up.
• 24:44
  I
• 24:44
  could
• 24:45
  swear
• 24:45
  it
• 24:46
  was
• 24:46
  Doug
• 24:46
  Jones
• 24:46
  doing
• 24:47
  both,
• 24:47
  but
• 24:47
  that
• 24:48
  now
• 24:48
  has
• 24:48
  me
• 24:48
  very
• 24:49
  curious.
• 24:49
  I
• 24:49
  just
• 24:49
  always
• 24:49
  assumed
• 24:50
  it
• 24:50
  was.
• 24:50
  But
• 24:51
  let
• 24:51
  me.
• 24:51
  That's.
• 24:52
  I'm
• 24:52
  gonna
• 24:52
  look
• 24:52
  that
• 24:52
  up
• 24:52
  while
• 24:53
  you're
• 24:53
  talking.
• 24:54
  Okay.
• 24:54
  Yeah,
• 24:54
  so.
• 24:56
  So
• 24:56
  I
• 24:56
  learned
• 24:56
  about
• 24:56
  Hellboy
• 24:57
  from
• 24:57
  that,
• 24:57
  from
• 24:58
  that
• 24:58
  film.
• 24:58
  I
• 24:59
  did
• 24:59
  wind
• 24:59
  up
• 24:59
  checking
• 25:00
  out
• 25:00
  some
• 25:00
  of
• 25:00
  the
• 25:01
  Hellboy
• 25:01
  comics
• 25:02
  and,
• 25:03
  you
• 25:03
  know,
• 25:03
  the
• 25:03
  second
• 25:04
  film,
• 25:04
  I
• 25:04
  haven't
• 25:04
  kept
• 25:04
  up
• 25:05
  with
• 25:05
  the
• 25:06
  later
• 25:07
  incarnations
• 25:08
  of
• 25:08
  Hellboy,
• 25:09
  but,
• 25:09
  you
• 25:09
  know,
• 25:09
  those
• 25:10
  first
• 25:10
  Del
• 25:10
  Toro
• 25:10
  films
• 25:11
  were
• 25:11
  very
• 25:11
  good.
• 25:12
  And
• 25:13
  yeah,
• 25:13
  the
• 25:13
  comics
• 25:14
  weren't.
• 25:14
  Weren't
• 25:15
  100%
• 25:15
  my
• 25:16
  thing,
• 25:16
  but
• 25:18
  they're
• 25:18
  obviously
• 25:18
  well
• 25:18
  done.
• 25:18
  And
• 25:19
  Mike
• 25:19
  Mignola
• 25:19
  has
• 25:20
  a
• 25:20
  very
• 25:20
  distinctive
• 25:21
  art
• 25:21
  style.
• 25:22
  He
• 25:22
  drew
• 25:22
  some
• 25:24
  X
• 25:24
  Horse
• 25:24
  comics
• 25:25
  and
• 25:25
  some
• 25:25
  X
• 25:25
  Man
• 25:26
  comics
• 25:27
  back
• 25:27
  in
• 25:27
  the
• 25:27
  day,
• 25:27
  or
• 25:27
  maybe
• 25:28
  cable
• 25:28
  comics
• 25:29
  or
• 25:29
  maybe
• 25:29
  both.
• 25:30
  But
• 25:31
  yeah,
• 25:31
  in
• 25:31
  the,
• 25:32
  in
• 25:32
  the
• 25:32
  90s
• 25:34
  and
• 25:34
  maybe
• 25:34
  early
• 25:35
  2000s,
• 25:35
  he
• 25:35
  was
• 25:35
  doing
• 25:36
  some
• 25:37
  X
• 25:37
  Men
• 25:37
  work
• 25:38
  that
• 25:38
  was,
• 25:39
  you
• 25:39
  know,
• 25:39
  that
• 25:39
  was
• 25:39
  notable
• 25:40
  even
• 25:40
  then
• 25:41
  in
• 25:41
  a
• 25:41
  very
• 25:42
  distinctive
• 25:42
  style.
• 25:43
  So.
• 25:43
  Yeah,
• 25:44
  and
• 25:44
  like
• 25:45
  you're
• 25:45
  saying
• 25:45
  everything
• 25:45
  you
• 25:45
  said
• 25:45
  about
• 25:46
  Ape
• 25:46
  Sapien,
• 25:46
  he's
• 25:46
  a
• 25:47
  great
• 25:47
  character.
• 25:47
  He's
• 25:47
  one
• 25:47
  of
• 25:47
  those
• 25:48
  great
• 25:48
  sort
• 25:48
  of
• 25:50
  more
• 25:50
  straight
• 25:51
  man
• 25:51
  to
• 25:51
  Hellboy's
• 25:52
  very
• 25:53
  bombastic
• 25:55
  kind
• 25:55
  of
• 25:56
  shoot
• 25:56
  first,
• 25:56
  ask
• 25:57
  questions
• 25:57
  later
• 25:57
  kind
• 25:57
  of
• 25:58
  character.
• 25:58
  Exactly,
• 25:59
  exactly.
• 25:59
  And
• 26:00
  I
• 26:00
  just
• 26:00
  looked
• 26:00
  it
• 26:00
  up.
• 26:01
  It
• 26:01
  is.
• 26:01
  Doug
• 26:02
  Jones
• 26:02
  did
• 26:02
  the
• 26:02
  voice
• 26:02
  in
• 26:03
  the
• 26:03
  body,
• 26:04
  so.
• 26:05
  Yeah,
• 26:05
  but
• 26:05
  I
• 26:06
  could
• 26:06
  see
• 26:06
  that
• 26:06
  as
• 26:06
  a
• 26:06
  great.
• 26:06
  I
• 26:07
  mean
• 26:07
  he's.
• 26:07
  He
• 26:07
  does
• 26:08
  really
• 26:08
  interesting
• 26:08
  things
• 26:09
  with
• 26:09
  the
• 26:09
  voice
• 26:09
  there.
• 26:10
  But.
• 26:11
  But
• 26:11
  his
• 26:11
  physicality
• 26:12
  is
• 26:12
  certainly,
• 26:12
  I
• 26:13
  think
• 26:13
  what
• 26:13
  got
• 26:13
  him
• 26:13
  the
• 26:14
  role
• 26:14
  because
• 26:15
  he,
• 26:15
  he
• 26:15
  also
• 26:15
  does.
• 26:16
  He
• 26:16
  did
• 26:16
  Silver
• 26:17
  Surfer
• 26:17
  in
• 26:18
  the.
• 26:18
  The
• 26:19
  Tim
• 26:19
  Story,
• 26:19
  Fantastic
• 26:20
  Four
• 26:20
  movie.
• 26:21
  Like
• 26:21
  that.
• 26:22
  But.
• 26:22
  But
• 26:22
  yeah,
• 26:23
  and
• 26:23
  oh,
• 26:23
  and
• 26:24
  Meg
• 26:24
  Mignola.
• 26:24
  Yeah.
• 26:25
  As
• 26:25
  a
• 26:25
  just
• 26:25
  fascinating
• 26:26
  career.
• 26:26
  His.
• 26:26
  His
• 26:26
  art
• 26:27
  style
• 26:27
  is
• 26:27
  so
• 26:27
  distinctive.
• 26:28
  And
• 26:29
  yeah,
• 26:29
  his
• 26:29
  DC
• 26:30
  and
• 26:30
  Marvel
• 26:30
  work
• 26:30
  is
• 26:31
  great
• 26:31
  as
• 26:31
  well.
• 26:32
  I
• 26:32
  mean
• 26:32
  while
• 26:32
  he'll
• 26:33
  always
• 26:33
  be
• 26:33
  known
• 26:34
  for
• 26:34
  the
• 26:34
  Hellboy
• 26:35
  universe,
• 26:35
  there's
• 26:36
  just
• 26:36
  a
• 26:36
  lot
• 26:36
  of
• 26:36
  great
• 26:36
  work
• 26:37
  out
• 26:37
  there.
• 26:37
  The,
• 26:38
  The
• 26:38
  Gotham
• 26:39
  by
• 26:39
  Gaslight
• 26:40
  Batman
• 26:41
  comic
• 26:41
  is
• 26:41
  a
• 26:41
  great
• 26:42
  one
• 26:42
  too.
• 26:43
  But
• 26:43
  yeah,
• 26:44
  so
• 26:44
  yeah,
• 26:45
  Abe
• 26:45
  Sapien
• 26:46
  is
• 26:46
  my
• 26:46
  number
• 26:46
  three
• 26:46
  as
• 26:47
  far
• 26:47
  as
• 26:48
  most
• 26:48
  relatable,
• 26:48
  most
• 26:49
  iconic.
• 26:50
  And
• 26:51
  I
• 26:51
  get
• 26:51
  it
• 26:51
  was
• 26:52
  cool
• 26:52
  that
• 26:52
  I.
• 26:53
  This
• 26:53
  is
• 26:53
  one.
• 26:54
  Even
• 26:54
  though
• 26:54
  it's
• 26:54
  an
• 26:54
  independent
• 26:55
  comic,
• 26:55
  it
• 26:56
  also
• 26:56
  has
• 26:56
  a
• 26:57
  very
• 26:58
  cemented
• 26:59
  place
• 26:59
  in
• 26:59
  the
• 26:59
  wider
• 27:00
  pop
• 27:00
  culture
• 27:00
  sphere
• 27:01
  thanks
• 27:01
  to
• 27:02
  the
• 27:02
  Del
• 27:02
  Toro
• 27:02
  adaptation
• 27:03
  and
• 27:04
  a
• 27:04
  couple
• 27:04
  other
• 27:05
  movies
• 27:05
  too.
• 27:05
  But
• 27:06
  the
• 27:06
  Del
• 27:06
  Toro
• 27:06
  ones
• 27:08
  are
• 27:08
  the
• 27:08
  top
• 27:09
  tier
• 27:09
  for
• 27:09
  me.
• 27:10
  Cool.
• 27:11
  Awesome.
• 27:12
  Well,
• 27:12
  Andy,
• 27:13
  what
• 27:13
  is
• 27:13
  now
• 27:13
  your
• 27:14
  number
• 27:14
  two
• 27:14
  pick
• 27:15
  for
• 27:15
  most
• 27:16
  relatable,
• 27:16
  most
• 27:16
  iconic
• 27:17

• 27:18
  book
• 27:18
  character?
• 27:19
  Yeah.
• 27:20
  So
• 27:20
  for
• 27:20
  number
• 27:20
  two,
• 27:20
  I
• 27:21
  went
• 27:21
  with
• 27:21
  Susan
• 27:22
  Ptolemy
• 27:22
  from
• 27:23
  the
• 27:23
  book
• 27:23
  Giant
• 27:23
  Days
• 27:24
  by
• 27:25
  John
• 27:25
  Allison
• 27:26
  and
• 27:26
  originally
• 27:26
  Lissa
• 27:27
  Tremain
• 27:27
  and
• 27:28
  then
• 27:28
  later
• 27:28
  Max
• 27:29
  Serrin
• 27:29
  for
• 27:30
  much
• 27:30
  of
• 27:30
  the
• 27:30
  run.
• 27:31
  So
• 27:31
  this
• 27:32
  is
• 27:32
  a
• 27:32
  British
• 27:33
  comic
• 27:33
  book
• 27:34
  set.
• 27:35
  It's
• 27:35
  more
• 27:35
  of
• 27:35
  a
• 27:35
  slice
• 27:36
  of
• 27:36
  life
• 27:37
  real
• 27:37
  ish
• 27:37
  world
• 27:38
  comic
• 27:38
  about
• 27:39
  three
• 27:40
  young
• 27:40
  women
• 27:40
  at
• 27:41
  university
• 27:43
  and
• 27:44
  it
• 27:44
  goes
• 27:45
  through
• 27:45
  their
• 27:46
  three
• 27:46
  years
• 27:46
  at
• 27:47
  university
• 27:48
  in
• 27:48
  the
• 27:48
  UK
• 27:49
  and
• 27:50
  then
• 27:50
  they
• 27:50
  graduate
• 27:50
  and
• 27:50
  that's
• 27:51
  the
• 27:51
  end
• 27:51
  of
• 27:51
  the
• 27:51
  book.
• 27:51
  So
• 27:51
  it
• 27:51
  has
• 27:52
  a
• 27:52
  nice
• 27:52
  kind
• 27:52
  of
• 27:52
  it's
• 27:53
  like
• 27:53
  50ish
• 27:53
  issues.
• 27:55
  There's
• 27:55
  three
• 27:56
  broken
• 27:56
  into
• 27:56
  three
• 27:56
  year
• 27:57
  chunks
• 27:58
  and
• 27:58
  yeah,
• 27:59
  just
• 27:59
  about
• 28:00
  the
• 28:00
  ups
• 28:00
  and
• 28:00
  downs
• 28:01
  of
• 28:01
  their
• 28:01
  lives
• 28:02
  as
• 28:02
  university
• 28:03
  students.
• 28:04
  And
• 28:05
  of
• 28:05
  the
• 28:05
  three.
• 28:06
  So
• 28:06
  Susan
• 28:07
  is.
• 28:08
  Well,
• 28:08
  there's
• 28:09
  Esther
• 28:09
  de
• 28:09
  Groot
• 28:10
  who
• 28:10
  is
• 28:10
  the
• 28:11
  dramatic
• 28:12
  gothy
• 28:13
  performance
• 28:14
  art
• 28:15
  and
• 28:15
  visual
• 28:16
  arts
• 28:16
  student.
• 28:18
  There
• 28:18
  is
• 28:19
  Daisy.
• 28:20
  I'm
• 28:20
  blanking
• 28:21
  on
• 28:21
  her
• 28:21
  last
• 28:21
  name,
• 28:21
  but
• 28:21
  Daisy
• 28:22
  is
• 28:22
  the
• 28:22
  sort
• 28:23
  of.
• 28:23
  More.
• 28:25
  It's
• 28:25
  been
• 28:25
  a
• 28:25
  minute
• 28:25
  since
• 28:26
  I
• 28:26
  don't
• 28:26
  remember
• 28:26
  the
• 28:27
  characters
• 28:27
  names.
• 28:27
  But
• 28:27
  it's
• 28:28
  a
• 28:28
  great
• 28:28
  book
• 28:28
  though.
• 28:29
  Yeah.
• 28:29
  So
• 28:30
  Daisy
• 28:30
  is
• 28:30
  more
• 28:31
  kind
• 28:31
  of
• 28:32
  craftsy
• 28:33
  and
• 28:33
  outdoorsy
• 28:34
  y.
• 28:35
  So
• 28:35
  there's
• 28:35
  Esther,
• 28:35
  there's
• 28:36
  Daisy
• 28:36
  and
• 28:36
  then
• 28:36
  Susan
• 28:37
  is
• 28:38
  kind
• 28:38
  of
• 28:38
  the
• 28:39
  point
• 28:40
  of
• 28:40
  view
• 28:40
  character
• 28:40
  a
• 28:40
  little
• 28:40
  bit.
• 28:41
  She's
• 28:42
  a
• 28:43
  pre
• 28:43
  med
• 28:43
  student,
• 28:45
  the
• 28:45
  sort
• 28:45
  of
• 28:46
  more
• 28:46
  level
• 28:46
  headed
• 28:46
  one.
• 28:47
  She
• 28:48
  has
• 28:48
  a
• 28:48
  background
• 28:49
  in
• 28:49
  other
• 28:49
  John
• 28:50
  Allison
• 28:50
  books
• 28:50
  as
• 28:51
  sort
• 28:51
  of
• 28:51
  a
• 28:51
  detective
• 28:53
  and.
• 28:53
  Yeah,
• 28:53
  so
• 28:53
  between
• 28:54
  that
• 28:54
  sort
• 28:54
  of
• 28:54
  like
• 28:55
  detective
• 28:55
  y,
• 28:55
  problem
• 28:56
  solving,
• 28:56
  pragmatic
• 28:57
  kind
• 28:57
  of
• 28:57
  nature
• 28:58
  and
• 28:58
  her
• 28:59
  affinity
• 28:59
  for,
• 28:59
  you
• 29:00
  know,
• 29:00
  the
• 29:00
  health
• 29:00
  sciences,
• 29:01
  that
• 29:01
  was
• 29:01
  why,
• 29:02
  you
• 29:02
  know,
• 29:02
  I
• 29:02
  most
• 29:03
  connected
• 29:03
  with
• 29:03
  her.
• 29:03
  Obviously
• 29:04
  there
• 29:04
  are
• 29:04
  lots
• 29:04
  of
• 29:04
  differences
• 29:05
  between
• 29:05
  she
• 29:05
  and
• 29:05
  I,
• 29:06
  but
• 29:07
  I
• 29:07
  thought
• 29:07
  it
• 29:08
  was
• 29:09
  useful
• 29:09
  to
• 29:09
  not
• 29:10
  just
• 29:10
  bring
• 29:10
  in
• 29:10
  male
• 29:11
  characters
• 29:11
  to
• 29:12
  the,
• 29:12
  to
• 29:12
  this
• 29:12
  conversation.
• 29:13
  And
• 29:13
  you
• 29:13
  know,
• 29:14
  Giant
• 29:14
  Days
• 29:14
  are
• 29:14
  just
• 29:14
  one
• 29:15
  of
• 29:15
  my
• 29:15
  top,
• 29:15
  if
• 29:15
  not
• 29:16
  my
• 29:16
  favorite
• 29:18
  independent
• 29:18
  comic
• 29:18
  book.
• 29:19
  So
• 29:19
  I
• 29:19
  wanted
• 29:19
  to
• 29:19
  get
• 29:20
  some
• 29:20
  representation
• 29:20
  in
• 29:20
  there
• 29:21
  somehow.
• 29:22
  Yeah.
• 29:23
  And
• 29:23
  so,
• 29:23
  you
• 29:24
  know,
• 29:24
  I'm
• 29:24
  Definitely
• 29:24
  not
• 29:25
  a
• 29:25
  McGraw,
• 29:26
  the
• 29:27
  mechanical
• 29:27
  engineer
• 29:28
  who
• 29:28
  is
• 29:28
  very
• 29:29
  good
• 29:29
  at
• 29:29
  building
• 29:31
  and
• 29:31
  carpentry
• 29:31
  and
• 29:31
  all
• 29:32
  that
• 29:32
  kind
• 29:32
  of
• 29:32
  stuff
• 29:32
  that
• 29:32
  was,
• 29:32
  that
• 29:33
  is
• 29:33
  and
• 29:33
  was
• 29:33
  not
• 29:33
  me
• 29:34
  in
• 29:34
  university.
• 29:36
  So
• 29:36
  yeah,
• 29:37
  I
• 29:37
  had
• 29:37
  to
• 29:37
  go
• 29:37
  with
• 29:38
  Susan.
• 29:38
  You
• 29:39
  know,
• 29:39
  some
• 29:39
  people
• 29:39
  might
• 29:39
  say
• 29:40
  I'm
• 29:40
  a
• 29:40
  bit
• 29:40
  more
• 29:40
  of
• 29:40
  an
• 29:41
  Ed
• 29:41
  and
• 29:42
  I
• 29:42
  could
• 29:42
  see
• 29:42
  that.
• 29:42
  But
• 29:43
  you
• 29:43
  know,
• 29:43
  you
• 29:44
  got
• 29:44
  to
• 29:44
  pick
• 29:44
  one
• 29:44
  of
• 29:44
  the,
• 29:44
  one
• 29:45
  of
• 29:45
  the
• 29:45
  main
• 29:45
  characters
• 29:45
  from
• 29:46
  the
• 29:46
  book.
• 29:46
  Right.
• 29:47
  So
• 29:48
  yeah,
• 29:48
  it's
• 29:49
  a
• 29:49
  really
• 29:49
  fun
• 29:50
  story.
• 29:51
  It's
• 29:51
  very
• 29:51
  comedic.
• 29:53
  There's
• 29:53
  some
• 29:54
  serious
• 29:54
  drama
• 29:55
  at
• 29:55
  times
• 29:55
  as
• 29:55
  well.
• 29:56
  But
• 29:57
  the
• 29:57
  art
• 29:57
  is
• 29:58
  just
• 29:58
  amazing
• 29:59
  in
• 29:59
  terms
• 29:59
  of
• 29:59
  the
• 30:00
  facial
• 30:00
  comedy
• 30:01
  and
• 30:01
  the
• 30:01
  physical
• 30:02
  comedy.
• 30:03
  Every
• 30:03
  page
• 30:03
  kind
• 30:04
  of
• 30:04
  tells
• 30:04
  a
• 30:04
  story.
• 30:05
  Almost
• 30:05
  every
• 30:05
  panel
• 30:06
  is
• 30:06
  its
• 30:06
  own
• 30:06
  kind
• 30:07
  of
• 30:07
  joke
• 30:07
  or
• 30:08
  story
• 30:08
  beat
• 30:09
  or
• 30:09
  whatever.
• 30:09
  Just
• 30:10
  a
• 30:10
  very
• 30:10
  well
• 30:11
  crafted
• 30:11
  comic.
• 30:13
  Entertaining
• 30:13
  all
• 30:13
  throughout.
• 30:14
  And
• 30:15
  yeah,
• 30:17
  even
• 30:17
  if
• 30:17
  you
• 30:17
  are
• 30:17
  not
• 30:18
  a
• 30:18
  young
• 30:18
  woman
• 30:18
  in
• 30:19
  University
• 30:20
  in
• 30:20
  the
• 30:20
  UK
• 30:21
  in
• 30:22
  the
• 30:22
  early
• 30:22
  2000s,
• 30:23
  you
• 30:23
  can
• 30:23
  probably
• 30:24
  find
• 30:24
  a
• 30:24
  lot
• 30:24
  to
• 30:25
  enjoy
• 30:26
  from
• 30:26
  this
• 30:26
  book.
• 30:27
  Excellent
• 30:28
  pick.
• 30:28
  Giant
• 30:28
  Days
• 30:29
  is
• 30:29
  one
• 30:29
  that
• 30:30
  a
• 30:30
  comic
• 30:30
  book
• 30:31
  writer
• 30:31
  friend
• 30:31
  of
• 30:32
  mine
• 30:32
  got
• 30:32
  me
• 30:33
  into
• 30:34
  years
• 30:34
  ago.
• 30:35
  And
• 30:35
  yeah,
• 30:35
  and
• 30:35
  like
• 30:36
  you
• 30:36
  said,
• 30:36
  it's
• 30:36
  just,
• 30:36
  it's
• 30:36
  so
• 30:37
  fascinating
• 30:37
  to
• 30:38
  have
• 30:38
  this
• 30:39
  slice
• 30:39
  of
• 30:39
  life
• 30:39
  book
• 30:40
  that's
• 30:40
  not
• 30:41
  sci
• 30:41
  fi
• 30:41
  or
• 30:41
  fantasy
• 30:43
  that
• 30:43
  is,
• 30:44
  you
• 30:44
  know,
• 30:44
  done
• 30:44
  in
• 30:45
  this
• 30:45
  medium
• 30:45
  so
• 30:46
  well.
• 30:46
  The
• 30:46
  art
• 30:46
  is
• 30:46
  fantastic.
• 30:47
  It's
• 30:47
  wonderfully
• 30:48
  relatable
• 30:48
  characters
• 30:49
  and
• 30:49
  yeah,
• 30:50
  it
• 30:50
  is
• 30:50
  one
• 30:51
  of
• 30:51
  those
• 30:51
  really,
• 30:52
  I
• 30:52
  think
• 30:52
  even
• 30:53
  within
• 30:53
  comic
• 30:54
  circles
• 30:54
  it's
• 30:54
  kind
• 30:54
  of
• 30:54
  a
• 30:54
  hidden
• 30:55
  gem.
• 30:55
  Like
• 30:55
  I
• 30:55
  mean
• 30:56
  it's
• 30:56
  won
• 30:56
  a
• 30:56
  bunch
• 30:56
  of
• 30:56
  awards
• 30:57
  and
• 30:57
  everything,
• 30:57
  but
• 30:58
  it's
• 30:58
  like,
• 30:59
  you
• 30:59
  know,
• 30:59
  even
• 31:00
  people
• 31:00
  who
• 31:01
  read
• 31:01
  comics
• 31:01
  every
• 31:01
  week
• 31:02
  might
• 31:02
  not
• 31:03
  have
• 31:03
  ever
• 31:03
  heard
• 31:03
  of
• 31:03
  it
• 31:03
  or
• 31:04
  picked
• 31:04
  it
• 31:04
  up.
• 31:04
  And
• 31:05
  it's
• 31:05
  just
• 31:05
  one
• 31:05
  of
• 31:06
  those
• 31:06
  that,
• 31:06
  yeah,
• 31:06
  it
• 31:07
  should
• 31:07
  be
• 31:07
  studied
• 31:07
  in
• 31:08
  schools,
• 31:08
  I
• 31:08
  think.
• 31:08
  I
• 31:08
  mean
• 31:08
  it's
• 31:09
  just
• 31:09
  like
• 31:09
  for
• 31:10
  anyone
• 31:10
  who
• 31:10
  says
• 31:10
  like
• 31:11
  think
• 31:12
  comics
• 31:12
  is
• 31:12
  all
• 31:13
  superheroes
• 31:13
  and
• 31:13
  whatnot,
• 31:14
  like
• 31:14
  this
• 31:14
  is
• 31:14
  a
• 31:14
  perfect
• 31:15
  anecdote
• 31:16
  to
• 31:16
  that
• 31:16
  saying.
• 31:16
  Like
• 31:17
  no,
• 31:17
  here's
• 31:17
  a
• 31:18
  very
• 31:18
  grounded
• 31:19
  slice
• 31:19
  of
• 31:19
  life
• 31:20
  book
• 31:21
  that
• 31:22
  uses
• 31:22
  the
• 31:23
  medium
• 31:23
  so
• 31:24
  well
• 31:24
  to
• 31:24
  tell
• 31:24
  this
• 31:25
  story.
• 31:26
  So
• 31:26
  yeah,
• 31:26
  excellent
• 31:27
  pick.
• 31:27
  And
• 31:27
  I.
• 31:27
  And,
• 31:28
  and
• 31:28
  like
• 31:28
  you
• 31:28
  said
• 31:28
  too,
• 31:29
  it's
• 31:29
  like,
• 31:29
  I
• 31:29
  mean,
• 31:30
  for
• 31:30
  the
• 31:30
  characters
• 31:31
  to
• 31:31
  be
• 31:31
  relatable,
• 31:32
  it
• 31:32
  doesn't
• 31:32
  have
• 31:32
  to
• 31:32
  be
• 31:32
  the
• 31:33
  same
• 31:33
  gender
• 31:34
  or
• 31:34
  experience
• 31:35
  as
• 31:35
  you.
• 31:35
  You
• 31:35
  can
• 31:36
  find
• 31:37
  elements
• 31:37
  of
• 31:37
  a
• 31:38
  character's
• 31:38
  story
• 31:39
  that
• 31:39
  you
• 31:40
  connect
• 31:40
  with.
• 31:40
  And
• 31:41
  that
• 31:41
  actually
• 31:41
  said,
• 31:42
  is
• 31:42
  there
• 31:42
  anything
• 31:42
  else
• 31:43
  you
• 31:43
  want
• 31:43
  to
• 31:43
  say
• 31:43
  on
• 31:43
  this?
• 31:43
  Because
• 31:43
  that
• 31:44
  actually
• 31:44
  segues
• 31:44
  into
• 31:45
  mine
• 31:45
  very
• 31:45
  nicely.
• 31:46
  I'll
• 31:46
  just
• 31:46
  add
• 31:47
  there
• 31:47
  was
• 31:47
  an
• 31:47
  extra
• 31:47
  layer
• 31:48
  of
• 31:48
  connection
• 31:49
  when
• 31:50
  my
• 31:50
  daughter
• 31:50
  went
• 31:51
  to
• 31:51
  high
• 31:51
  school
• 31:52
  and
• 31:53
  formed
• 31:53
  a
• 31:53
  trio
• 31:54
  of
• 31:54
  very
• 31:54
  close
• 31:55
  friends
• 31:55
  who
• 31:56
  mapped
• 31:56
  quite
• 31:56
  neatly
• 31:57
  to
• 31:58
  Esther,
• 31:58
  Susan
• 31:59
  and
• 31:59
  Daisy.
• 32:00
  I
• 32:00
  won't
• 32:01
  embarrass
• 32:01
  her
• 32:02
  saying
• 32:02
  which
• 32:02
  one
• 32:02
  was
• 32:03
  which,
• 32:04
  but
• 32:04
  that
• 32:05
  was
• 32:05
  an
• 32:05
  extra
• 32:05
  level
• 32:05
  of
• 32:06
  amusement
• 32:06
  to
• 32:06
  kind
• 32:06
  of
• 32:07
  have
• 32:07
  my
• 32:07
  own
• 32:07
  Susan,
• 32:08
  Esther
• 32:08
  and
• 32:08
  Daisy
• 32:08
  wandering
• 32:09
  in
• 32:09
  and
• 32:09
  out
• 32:09
  of
• 32:09
  my
• 32:09
  house
• 32:10
  in
• 32:10
  my
• 32:10
  life
• 32:10
  for
• 32:11
  a
• 32:11
  few
• 32:11
  years
• 32:11
  there.
• 32:12
  Yeah,
• 32:12
  absolutely.
• 32:13
  That's
• 32:13
  a
• 32:13
  great
• 32:13
  connection.
• 32:14
  I
• 32:14
  love
• 32:14
  the,
• 32:15
  I
• 32:15
  mean
• 32:16
  it's
• 32:16
  just
• 32:16
  such
• 32:16
  a
• 32:16
  cool
• 32:17
  thing
• 32:17
  about
• 32:17
  storytelling
• 32:17
  in
• 32:18
  general
• 32:18
  is
• 32:18
  the
• 32:18
  way
• 32:18
  we
• 32:19
  can
• 32:19
  find
• 32:20
  those
• 32:20
  moments
• 32:20
  and
• 32:21
  those
• 32:21
  stages
• 32:22
  in
• 32:22
  life
• 32:22
  that
• 32:22
  we
• 32:22
  have
• 32:23
  that
• 32:23
  connect
• 32:23
  directly
• 32:24
  to
• 32:24
  another
• 32:25
  character's
• 32:25
  story.
• 32:26
  But
• 32:26
  yeah,
• 32:27
  awesome.
• 32:27
  Well,
• 32:28
  Andy,
• 32:28
  excellent
• 32:28
  pick.
• 32:28
  And
• 32:29
  again,
• 32:29
  this
• 32:29
  segues
• 32:30
  actually
• 32:30
  very
• 32:30
  nicely
• 32:31
  into
• 32:31
  my
• 32:31
  number
• 32:31
  two
• 32:32
  pick,
• 32:32
  talking
• 32:33
  about
• 32:33
  someone
• 32:33
  who
• 32:34
  is
• 32:34
  not
• 32:35
  only
• 32:35
  from
• 32:35
  a
• 32:36
  very
• 32:36
  different
• 32:36
  world
• 32:37
  than
• 32:37
  me
• 32:37
  and
• 32:38
  also
• 32:38
  not
• 32:39
  the
• 32:39
  same
• 32:39
  gender,
• 32:39
  age,
• 32:40
  anything.
• 32:40
  But
• 32:41
  I
• 32:41
  alluded
• 32:41
  to
• 32:41
  Saga
• 32:42
  earlier
• 32:42
  and
• 32:43
  you
• 32:43
  know,
• 32:43
  you
• 32:43
  and
• 32:43
  I
• 32:44
  have
• 32:44
  discussed
• 32:44
  this
• 32:44
  book
• 32:44
  before
• 32:45
  on
• 32:45
  a
• 32:45
  comic
• 32:46
  book
• 32:46
  catch
• 32:46
  up
• 32:46
  episode.
• 32:47
  But,
• 32:47
  but
• 32:48
  the
• 32:48
  character
• 32:48
  of
• 32:48
  Hazel,
• 32:49
  who
• 32:49
  is
• 32:49
  the
• 32:49
  main
• 32:50
  point
• 32:50
  of
• 32:50
  view
• 32:50
  character
• 32:51
  is
• 32:52
  someone
• 32:52
  I
• 32:52
  actually
• 32:53
  find
• 32:53
  iconic
• 32:54
  and
• 32:54
  relatable
• 32:55
  in
• 32:55
  a
• 32:55
  unique
• 32:55
  way.
• 32:56
  Because
• 32:57
  for
• 32:57
  those
• 32:57
  you
• 32:58
  know,
• 32:58
  who've
• 32:58
  not
• 32:58
  read
• 32:59
  Saga
• 32:59
  or,
• 33:00
  you
• 33:00
  know,
• 33:01
  you
• 33:01
  probably
• 33:02
  heard
• 33:02
  the
• 33:02
  title
• 33:02
  if
• 33:03
  you're,
• 33:03
  you
• 33:03
  know,
• 33:04
  been
• 33:04
  in
• 33:04
  comic
• 33:04
  shops
• 33:05
  in
• 33:05
  the
• 33:05
  last
• 33:06
  15
• 33:06
  years
• 33:07
  or
• 33:07
  so.
• 33:08
  But
• 33:08
  Saga

  is

• 33:19
  of
• 33:20
  her

• 33:20
  and
• 33:21
  she
• 33:22
  grows

• 33:29
  Her
• 33:29
  parents
• 33:29
  were
• 33:30
  really
• 33:31
  forbidden

  to
• 33:32

  with

• 33:34
  Juliet
• 33:34

• 33:35
  And
• 33:35
  their
• 33:36
  civilizations
• 33:37
  have
• 33:37
  been
• 33:37
  at
• 33:38
  war
• 33:38
  for
• 33:39
  over
• 33:39
  a
• 33:39
  century.
• 33:40
  And
• 33:41
  she
• 33:41
  is
• 33:41
  this
• 33:41
  child
• 33:42
  who
• 33:42
  was
• 33:42
  born
• 33:43
  and
• 33:43
  immediately
• 33:44
  hated
• 33:45
  for
• 33:45
  her
• 33:45
  existence.
• 33:46
  And
• 33:46
  while
• 33:47
  I
• 33:47
  do
• 33:47
  not
• 33:47
  have
• 33:47
  that
• 33:48
  experience
• 33:48
  at
• 33:48
  all,
• 33:49
  I
• 33:49
  want
• 33:49
  to
• 33:49
  point
• 33:50
  that
• 33:50
  out
• 33:50
  that
• 33:50
  I'm
• 33:50
  not
• 33:50
  the
• 33:51
  child
• 33:51
  of
• 33:51
  parents
• 33:52
  from
• 33:52
  warring
• 33:53
  civilizations
• 33:54
  and
• 33:54
  I
• 33:54
  don't
• 33:54
  have
• 33:54
  anything
• 33:55
  like
• 33:55
  that,
• 33:56
  you
• 33:56
  know,
• 33:56
  just.
• 33:56
  Well,
• 33:57
  I
• 33:57
  come
• 33:57
  from
• 33:58
  a
• 33:58
  very
• 33:58
  loving
• 33:58
  family
• 33:58
  and
• 33:59
  my
• 33:59
  parents
• 34:00
  are
• 34:00
  still
• 34:00
  together.
• 34:00
  But
• 34:02
  the
• 34:02
  reason
• 34:02
  I
• 34:02
  bring
• 34:03
  this
• 34:03
  character
• 34:03
  up
• 34:03
  as
• 34:04
  someone
• 34:04
  relatable
• 34:04
  is
• 34:05
  because
• 34:05
  the
• 34:05
  beautiful
• 34:06
  thing
• 34:06
  about
• 34:06
  saga
• 34:07
  is
• 34:07
  that
• 34:07
  while
• 34:08
  it
• 34:08
  takes
• 34:08
  place
• 34:08
  in
• 34:08
  this
• 34:09
  epic
• 34:09
  fantasy
• 34:10
  sci
• 34:10
  fi
• 34:10
  world,
• 34:10
  it
• 34:11
  very
• 34:11
  much
• 34:12
  has
• 34:12
  this
• 34:14
  way
• 34:14
  of
• 34:15
  mirroring
• 34:16
  the
• 34:16
  world
• 34:17
  in
• 34:18
  our
• 34:18
  world
• 34:18
  in
• 34:19
  many
• 34:19
  ways.
• 34:19
  So
• 34:20
  in
• 34:20
  terms
• 34:20
  of
• 34:20
  sociopolitical
• 34:21
  issues
• 34:21
  and
• 34:22
  in
• 34:22
  terms
• 34:22
  of
• 34:23
  the
• 34:23
  way
• 34:24
  people
• 34:25
  relate
• 34:25
  to
• 34:25
  each
• 34:25
  other
• 34:26
  and
• 34:26
  the
• 34:26
  way
• 34:26
  people
• 34:26
  can
• 34:27
  despise
• 34:27
  each
• 34:27
  other
• 34:28
  and
• 34:28
  how
• 34:29
  conflicts
• 34:30
  that
• 34:31
  really
• 34:31
  have
• 34:32
  no
• 34:32
  justification
• 34:33
  go
• 34:34
  on
• 34:34
  forever,
• 34:36
  all
• 34:36
  of
• 34:36
  that
• 34:36
  is
• 34:37
  in
• 34:37
  saga.
• 34:37
  And
• 34:37
  it
• 34:37
  makes
• 34:38
  it
• 34:38
  all
• 34:38
  the
• 34:39
  more
• 34:39
  human
• 34:40
  and
• 34:40
  all
• 34:40
  the
• 34:40
  more
• 34:40
  relatable.
• 34:41
  And
• 34:41
  so
• 34:41
  for
• 34:42
  me,
• 34:42
  Hazel
• 34:43
  feels
• 34:44
  like
• 34:44
  a
• 34:45
  millennial
• 34:45
  in
• 34:46
  many
• 34:46
  ways
• 34:46
  of
• 34:46
  just
• 34:47
  like
• 34:47
  a
• 34:47
  child
• 34:47
  who
• 34:48
  is
• 34:48
  thrust
• 34:49
  into
• 34:49
  this
• 34:50
  world
• 34:50
  that
• 34:51
  is
• 34:51
  seemingly
• 34:52
  always
• 34:52
  on
• 34:52
  fire.
• 34:53
  And
• 34:53
  there
• 34:53
  are
• 34:53
  these,
• 34:54
  you
• 34:54
  know,
• 34:55
  global
• 34:55
  air,
• 34:56
  in
• 34:56
  her
• 34:56
  case,
• 34:57
  intergalactic
• 34:57
  conflicts
• 34:58
  that
• 34:58
  are
• 34:59
  never
• 35:00
  ending
• 35:00
  and
• 35:00
  that
• 35:02
  leaders
• 35:02
  try
• 35:03
  to
• 35:03
  justify
• 35:03
  all
• 35:04
  the
• 35:04
  time,
• 35:04
  but
• 35:04
  that
• 35:04
  they're
• 35:05
  ultimately,
• 35:06
  they're
• 35:06
  just
• 35:07
  the
• 35:07
  result
• 35:07
  of
• 35:08
  bigotry
• 35:09
  and,
• 35:09
  you
• 35:10
  know,
• 35:10
  selfish
• 35:10
  ideologies.
• 35:11
  And
• 35:12
  I
• 35:13
  mean
• 35:13
  that
• 35:13
  wherever
• 35:14
  you
• 35:14
  stand
• 35:14
  politically,
• 35:14
  I
• 35:14
  think
• 35:15
  it's
• 35:15
  fair
• 35:15
  to
• 35:15
  say
• 35:16
  we
• 35:16
  live
• 35:16
  in
• 35:16
  a
• 35:16
  world
• 35:16
  where
• 35:17
  that's
• 35:17
  very
• 35:18
  much
• 35:18
  apparent.
• 35:18
  I
• 35:18
  mean,
• 35:19
  as
• 35:19
  a
• 35:19
  millennial,
• 35:20
  I
• 35:20
  was
• 35:20
  a
• 35:20
  kid
• 35:20
  when
• 35:21
  911
• 35:21
  happened
• 35:22
  and
• 35:22
  you
• 35:22
  know,
• 35:22
  and
• 35:23
  have,
• 35:24
  you
• 35:24
  know,
• 35:24
  there's
• 35:24
  been
• 35:25
  numerous
• 35:25
  tragedies
• 35:26
  on
• 35:27
  a
• 35:27
  global
• 35:27
  scale
• 35:28
  throughout
• 35:29
  my
• 35:29
  lifetime.
• 35:30
  So
• 35:30
  between
• 35:30
  9
• 35:31
  11,
• 35:31
  the
• 35:32
  pandemic,
• 35:33
  various
• 35:34
  turmoil
• 35:35
  both,
• 35:36
  you
• 35:36
  know,
• 35:36
  in
• 35:36
  the
• 35:37
  US
• 35:37
  and
• 35:38
  in
• 35:38
  the
• 35:39
  world
• 35:39
  as
• 35:39
  a
• 35:39
  whole,
• 35:40
  it
• 35:40
  definitely
• 35:41
  impacts
• 35:42
  how
• 35:42
  you
• 35:42
  grow
• 35:42
  up
• 35:42
  and
• 35:42
  it
• 35:43
  impacts,
• 35:43
  you
• 35:43
  know,
• 35:43
  the
• 35:44
  way
• 35:44
  you
• 35:44
  see
• 35:44
  the
• 35:44
  world.
• 35:45
  And
• 35:46
  reading
• 35:46
  saga,
• 35:47
  that
• 35:47
  for
• 35:48
  me
• 35:48
  is
• 35:48
  what,
• 35:49
  like,
• 35:49
  I
• 35:49
  can
• 35:49
  relate
• 35:50
  to
• 35:50
  Hazel
• 35:50
  the
• 35:50
  most
• 35:50
  because
• 35:51
  she's
• 35:52
  a
• 35:52
  child
• 35:52
  who,
• 35:53
  you
• 35:53
  know,
• 35:53
  her
• 35:54
  life
• 35:54
  is
• 35:54
  dictated
• 35:55
  by
• 35:56
  so
• 35:56
  many
• 35:56
  other
• 35:57
  forces
• 35:57
  at
• 35:57
  work
• 35:58
  and
• 35:58
  ultimately
• 36:00
  civilizations
• 36:01
  who
• 36:01
  hate
• 36:02
  each
• 36:02
  other
• 36:02
  because
• 36:02
  they
• 36:03
  feel
• 36:03
  like
• 36:03
  they
• 36:03
  have
• 36:03
  to.
• 36:04
  And
• 36:04
  it's
• 36:04
  just
• 36:04
  like
• 36:05
  in
• 36:06
  your
• 36:07
  longing
• 36:07
  for
• 36:07
  a
• 36:07
  better
• 36:08
  world
• 36:08
  for
• 36:08
  her
• 36:08
  and
• 36:09
  for
• 36:09
  her
• 36:09
  family
• 36:10
  and
• 36:10
  for
• 36:10
  everyone
• 36:11
  else
• 36:11
  and
• 36:11
  all
• 36:11
  these
• 36:11
  characters
• 36:12
  you
• 36:12
  come
• 36:12
  to
• 36:12
  love,
• 36:13
  but
• 36:13
  they're
• 36:14
  constantly
• 36:15
  offset
• 36:15
  by
• 36:16
  tragedy
• 36:16
  and,
• 36:17
  you
• 36:17
  know,
• 36:17
  conflicts
• 36:18
  that
• 36:18
  are
• 36:18
  never
• 36:18
  ending
• 36:19
  and
• 36:19
  escalating.
• 36:19
  And
• 36:20
  so,
• 36:20
  yeah,
• 36:20
  it's
• 36:21
  a,
• 36:21
  you
• 36:21
  know,
• 36:21
  in
• 36:22
  some
• 36:22
  way
• 36:22
  that
• 36:22
  might
• 36:22
  be
• 36:22
  a
• 36:22
  like,
• 36:23
  weird
• 36:23
  connection.
• 36:24
  But
• 36:24
  also
• 36:24
  I
• 36:24
  think
• 36:24
  that's,
• 36:25
  again,
• 36:25
  the
• 36:26
  beauty
• 36:26
  of
• 36:26
  saga
• 36:26
  is
• 36:27
  it
• 36:28
  does
• 36:28
  this
• 36:28
  big,
• 36:29
  you
• 36:29
  know,
• 36:29
  epic
• 36:30
  story,
• 36:31
  but
• 36:31
  it's
• 36:31
  ultimately
• 36:32
  grounded
• 36:32
  in
• 36:33
  a
• 36:34
  lot
• 36:34
  of
• 36:34
  the
• 36:34
  experience,
• 36:35
  the
• 36:35
  experiences
• 36:36
  that
• 36:36
  we
• 36:36
  have
• 36:36
  as
• 36:36
  humans.
• 36:37
  And
• 36:38
  you
• 36:38
  don't
• 36:38
  have
• 36:38
  to
• 36:39
  be
• 36:39
  in
• 36:39
  an
• 36:40
  intergalactic
• 36:40
  conflict
• 36:41
  to
• 36:41
  see
• 36:42
  how
• 36:42
  the
• 36:42
  themes
• 36:42
  of
• 36:43
  this
• 36:43
  book
• 36:43
  resonate.
• 36:44
  And
• 36:44
  so
• 36:45
  Hazel
• 36:45
  is
• 36:45
  just
• 36:46
  a
• 36:46
  very
• 36:46
  grounded
• 36:47
  down
• 36:47
  to
• 36:47
  earth
• 36:48
  character.
• 36:49
  And
• 36:49
  I,
• 36:49
  and
• 36:50
  it
• 36:50
  really
• 36:50
  helps
• 36:51
  that
• 36:51
  you
• 36:51
  have
• 36:52
  her
• 36:52
  voice
• 36:52
  narrating
• 36:53
  the
• 36:53
  story
• 36:54
  from
• 36:54
  the
• 36:54
  beginning,
• 36:55
  from
• 36:55
  issue
• 36:55
  one
• 36:55
  and,
• 36:56
  and,
• 36:57
  and
• 36:57
  It's.
• 36:57
  It's
• 36:57
  funny
• 36:58
  too,
• 36:58
  because
• 36:58
  a
• 36:58
  lot
• 36:58
  of
• 36:58
  times
• 36:59
  I'm
• 36:59
  not
• 36:59
  as
• 36:59
  big
• 37:00
  on
• 37:00
  voiceover
• 37:01
  narration.
• 37:01
  Like,
• 37:02
  even
• 37:02
  when
• 37:02
  I
• 37:02
  write
• 37:02
  scripts
• 37:03
  of
• 37:03
  my
• 37:03
  own
• 37:03
  or
• 37:03
  stories,
• 37:04
  I
• 37:04
  try
• 37:04
  to
• 37:04
  avoid.
• 37:05
  Avoid
• 37:05
  that.
• 37:05
  But
• 37:06
  this
• 37:06
  is
• 37:07
  one
• 37:07
  case
• 37:07
  where
• 37:07
  it
• 37:07
  works
• 37:08
  really
• 37:08
  well
• 37:08
  and
• 37:08
  you
• 37:08
  get
• 37:09
  that
• 37:09
  excellent
• 37:10
  point
• 37:10
  of
• 37:10
  view
• 37:10
  from
• 37:10
  her.
• 37:11
  And
• 37:11
  it
• 37:11
  adds
• 37:12
  so
• 37:12
  much
• 37:12
  depth
• 37:13
  and
• 37:14
  so
• 37:14
  much
• 37:14
  characterization.
• 37:16
  So,
• 37:16
  yeah,
• 37:17
  so
• 37:17
  that's
• 37:17
  just
• 37:18
  for
• 37:18
  me.
• 37:18
  Hazel
• 37:19
  is
• 37:19
  the.
• 37:21
  The
• 37:21
  big,
• 37:21
  like,
• 37:22
  the
• 37:22
  biggest
• 37:23
  connection
• 37:24
  to
• 37:24
  Millennial
• 37:25
  readers.
• 37:26
  Speaking
• 37:27
  as
• 37:27
  Someone
• 37:27
  who
• 37:27
  is
• 37:28
  32,
• 37:28
  growing
• 37:29
  up
• 37:29
  with
• 37:29
  all
• 37:29
  this
• 37:29
  stuff,
• 37:30
  I
• 37:30
  just.
• 37:30
  I
• 37:30
  see
• 37:31
  a
• 37:31
  lot
• 37:31
  of
• 37:32
  the
• 37:32
  ways
• 37:32
  she
• 37:32
  feels
• 37:34
  in
• 37:34
  ways
• 37:35
  I
• 37:35
  felt
• 37:35
  and
• 37:35
  ways
• 37:35
  I've
• 37:36
  grown
• 37:36
  up.
• 37:36
  Yeah,
• 37:37
  that's
• 37:37
  really
• 37:37
  cool.
• 37:37
  That
• 37:38
  makes
• 37:38
  a
• 37:38
  lot
• 37:38
  of
• 37:38
  sense.
• 37:38
  Yeah.
• 37:39
  We've
• 37:39
  talked
• 37:39
  about
• 37:39
  Saga
• 37:40
  before.
• 37:41
  It
• 37:41
  is
• 37:42
  one
• 37:42
  of
• 37:42
  the
• 37:43
  books.
• 37:43
  It
• 37:43
  doesn't
• 37:43
  need
• 37:44
  a
• 37:44
  whole
• 37:44
  lot
• 37:44
  of
• 37:45
  promotion,
• 37:45
  I
• 37:45
  don't
• 37:46
  think,
• 37:46
  among
• 37:46
  comic
• 37:47
  book
• 37:47
  readers.
• 37:47
  But,
• 37:48
  yeah,
• 37:48
  it
• 37:48
  is
• 37:48
  very
• 37:48
  well
• 37:49
  done.
• 37:50
  As
• 37:50
  you
• 37:50
  were
• 37:51
  talking,
• 37:51
  I
• 37:51
  was
• 37:51
  reminded
• 37:52
  Rick
• 37:53
  Remender
• 37:53
  wrote
• 37:54
  an
• 37:54
  essay
• 37:54
  in
• 37:54
  the
• 37:54
  back
• 37:55
  of
• 37:56
  Escape
• 37:56
  Number
• 37:57
  One,
• 37:57
  his
• 37:58
  recent
• 37:58
  book
• 37:59
  that
• 37:59
  is
• 38:00
  basically
• 38:01
  a
• 38:02
  World
• 38:02
  War
• 38:02
  II
• 38:03
  type
• 38:04
  story,
• 38:04
  but
• 38:04
  with
• 38:05
  anthropomorphic
• 38:05
  animals
• 38:07
  as
• 38:07
  the
• 38:07
  characters.
• 38:08
  And
• 38:08
  he
• 38:08
  wrote
• 38:08
  about
• 38:09
  how
• 38:11
  depicting
• 38:12
  these
• 38:13
  events
• 38:13
  and
• 38:14
  these
• 38:14
  people
• 38:15
  as
• 38:16
  human,
• 38:17
  like
• 38:17
  animals,
• 38:18
  think
• 38:18
  like
• 38:18
  thundercats
• 38:19
  kind
• 38:19
  of
• 38:19
  thing,
• 38:21
  that
• 38:22
  creates
• 38:23
  some
• 38:23
  distance
• 38:23
  between
• 38:24
  the
• 38:24
  reader
• 38:25
  and
• 38:25
  the
• 38:25
  character
• 38:25
  that
• 38:25
  allows
• 38:26
  them
• 38:26
  to
• 38:26
  maybe
• 38:26
  see
• 38:26
  things
• 38:27
  about
• 38:27
  themselves
• 38:27
  that
• 38:28
  they
• 38:28
  wouldn't
• 38:29
  if
• 38:30
  the
• 38:31
  person
• 38:31
  on
• 38:31
  the
• 38:32
  page
• 38:32
  fit
• 38:33
  neatly
• 38:33
  into
• 38:33
  a
• 38:33
  pre
• 38:34
  existing
• 38:34
  bucket.
• 38:34
  Either
• 38:35
  a
• 38:36
  group
• 38:36
  that
• 38:36
  you
• 38:36
  like
• 38:37
  or
• 38:37
  a
• 38:37
  group
• 38:37
  that
• 38:37
  you
• 38:37
  don't
• 38:37
  like
• 38:37
  or
• 38:38
  what
• 38:38
  have
• 38:38
  you.
• 38:39
  But
• 38:40
  we
• 38:40
  project
• 38:41
  all
• 38:41
  kinds
• 38:41
  of
• 38:41
  things
• 38:41
  onto
• 38:42
  people
• 38:42
  because
• 38:43
  we
• 38:44
  put
• 38:44
  them
• 38:44
  into
• 38:45
  certain
• 38:45
  buckets
• 38:45
  right
• 38:45
  away.
• 38:46
  And
• 38:46
  when
• 38:46
  you're
• 38:47
  looking
• 38:47
  at
• 38:47
  a
• 38:48
  character
• 38:48
  that
• 38:48
  you
• 38:48
  just
• 38:48
  don't
• 38:49
  have
• 38:49
  a
• 38:49
  bucket
• 38:49
  for,
• 38:50
  it
• 38:50
  creates
• 38:50
  that
• 38:51
  distance
• 38:51
  that
• 38:51
  allows
• 38:51
  you
• 38:52
  to
• 38:52
  maybe
• 38:53
  see
• 38:53
  things
• 38:53
  a
• 38:53
  little
• 38:53
  bit
• 38:53
  differently.
• 38:54
  And,
• 38:54
  you
• 38:54
  know,
• 38:55
  it's
• 38:55
  hard
• 38:55
  to
• 38:56
  get
• 38:56
  much
• 38:57
  more
• 38:57
  different
• 38:57
  than
• 38:59
  a
• 38:59
  race
• 39:00
  of
• 39:00
  people
• 39:00
  who
• 39:00
  have
• 39:00
  television
• 39:01
  monitors
• 39:02
  for
• 39:02
  heads.
• 39:04
  And
• 39:05
  I
• 39:06
  can
• 39:06
  definitely,
• 39:06
  as
• 39:06
  you
• 39:06
  were
• 39:06
  talking
• 39:07
  about
• 39:07
  Saga,
• 39:07
  I
• 39:08
  hadn't
• 39:08
  made
• 39:08
  that
• 39:08
  connection
• 39:08
  before,
• 39:10
  consciously.
• 39:11
  But
• 39:11
  everything
• 39:12
  that
• 39:12
  Raremender
• 39:13
  wrote
• 39:13
  in
• 39:13
  that
• 39:13
  essay
• 39:13
  could
• 39:14
  100%
• 39:14
  apply
• 39:14
  to
• 39:15
  SAGA.
• 39:15
  And
• 39:16
  I'm
• 39:16
  sure
• 39:16
  that
• 39:16
  that
• 39:16
  is
• 39:17
  a
• 39:17
  big
• 39:17
  part
• 39:17
  of
• 39:18
  what
• 39:19
  Vaughn
• 39:19
  and
• 39:19
  Staples
• 39:20
  are,
• 39:21
  why
• 39:21
  it
• 39:22
  is
• 39:22
  created
• 39:22
  the
• 39:23
  way
• 39:23
  that
• 39:23
  it
• 39:23
  is,
• 39:24
  whether
• 39:24
  they
• 39:24
  were
• 39:24
  totally
• 39:25
  conscious
• 39:25
  of
• 39:25
  the
• 39:25
  same
• 39:25
  things
• 39:26
  that
• 39:26
  he
• 39:27
  was
• 39:27
  talking
• 39:27
  about
• 39:27
  or
• 39:27
  not.
• 39:28
  It's
• 39:28
  clearly
• 39:30
  one
• 39:30
  of
• 39:30
  the
• 39:30
  benefits
• 39:31
  or
• 39:31
  the
• 39:31
  merits
• 39:32
  of
• 39:32
  that
• 39:32
  book
• 39:32
  is
• 39:32
  the
• 39:33
  way
• 39:33
  that
• 39:33
  it
• 39:33
  allows
• 39:34
  you
• 39:34
  to
• 39:34
  examine
• 39:36
  the
• 39:36
  real
• 39:36
  world
• 39:38
  without
• 39:39
  the
• 39:39
  entanglements
• 39:40
  of
• 39:41
  all
• 39:41
  the
• 39:42
  real
• 39:42
  world
• 39:43
  identities
• 39:44
  and
• 39:44
  ideologies.
• 39:45
  100%.
• 39:46
  I
• 39:46
  mean,
• 39:46
  yeah,
• 39:47
  comics
• 39:47
  aren't
• 39:48
  just
• 39:48
  escapism.
• 39:49
  I
• 39:49
  Think
• 39:49
  they're
• 39:49
  a
• 39:50
  way
• 39:50
  for
• 39:51
  like
• 39:51
  any
• 39:51
  storytelling
• 39:52
  medium.
• 39:52
  Like
• 39:52
  good
• 39:53
  storytelling
• 39:54
  allows
• 39:54
  you
• 39:55
  to
• 39:55
  have
• 39:56
  more
• 39:56
  empathy
• 39:57
  for
• 39:57
  other
• 39:57
  people
• 39:57
  and
• 39:57
  to
• 39:58
  kind
• 39:58
  of
• 39:59
  examine
• 40:00
  yourself,
• 40:00
  examine
• 40:01
  your
• 40:01
  own
• 40:01
  mindset,
• 40:02
  examine
• 40:02
  the
• 40:03
  way
• 40:03
  you
• 40:03
  see
• 40:03
  other
• 40:04
  people.
• 40:04
  And
• 40:05
  yeah,
• 40:05
  I
• 40:05
  think
• 40:05
  saga
• 40:06
  does
• 40:06
  a
• 40:06
  beautiful
• 40:06
  job
• 40:07
  of
• 40:07
  that
• 40:07
  with
• 40:07
  its
• 40:08
  multi
• 40:08
  layered
• 40:09
  storytelling,
• 40:09
  its
• 40:09
  multi
• 40:10
  layered
• 40:10
  characters.
• 40:11
  And
• 40:11
  yeah,
• 40:12
  so
• 40:12
  this
• 40:12
  is
• 40:12
  just
• 40:13
  one
• 40:13
  that,
• 40:14
  you
• 40:14
  know,
• 40:15
  really
• 40:15
  resonated
• 40:16
  with
• 40:16
  me.
• 40:16
  I
• 40:17
  still
• 40:17
  love
• 40:17
  the
• 40:17
  book.
• 40:17
  And
• 40:18
  yeah,
• 40:19
  Hazel
• 40:20
  has
• 40:20
  been
• 40:20
  there,
• 40:20
  obviously
• 40:20
  from
• 40:21
  issue
• 40:21
  one,
• 40:22
  and
• 40:23
  I
• 40:24
  think
• 40:24
  for
• 40:24
  me
• 40:24
  continues
• 40:24
  to
• 40:25
  be
• 40:25
  the
• 40:25
  most
• 40:25
  powerful,
• 40:26
  relatable
• 40:26
  character
• 40:28
  and
• 40:28
  should
• 40:29
  be
• 40:29
  right
• 40:29
  up
• 40:30
  there
• 40:30
  with
• 40:30
  Batman
• 40:31
  and
• 40:31
  Superman
• 40:31
  in
• 40:31
  terms
• 40:31
  of
• 40:32
  most
• 40:32
  iconic
• 40:33
  comic
• 40:33
  book
• 40:33
  characters
• 40:34
  of
• 40:34
  all
• 40:34
  time.
• 40:36
  Awesome.
• 40:37
  Well,
• 40:37
  Andy,
• 40:38
  I'm
• 40:38
  very
• 40:38
  excited
• 40:38
  to
• 40:38
  hear
• 40:39
  your
• 40:39
  number
• 40:39
  one
• 40:40
  pick
• 40:40
  here
• 40:41
  for
• 40:42
  most
• 40:42
  relatable,
• 40:43
  most
• 40:43
  iconic
• 40:43
  comic
• 40:44
  book
• 40:44
  character
• 40:45
  from
• 40:45
  the
• 40:45
  indie
• 40:46
  comic
• 40:46
  book
• 40:46
  world.
• 40:47
  Yeah,
• 40:47
  so
• 40:48
  I
• 40:48
  said
• 40:48
  that
• 40:49
  I
• 40:50
  didn't
• 40:50
  imprint
• 40:51
  on
• 40:51
  most
• 40:51
  of
• 40:51
  his
• 40:51
  characters
• 40:52
  as
• 40:52
  a
• 40:52
  kid,
• 40:52
  but
• 40:53
  I
• 40:53
  had
• 40:53
  to
• 40:53
  think
• 40:53
  a
• 40:53
  little
• 40:53
  bit
• 40:54
  about
• 40:54
  my
• 40:54
  childhood.
• 40:55
  So
• 40:55
  I
• 40:55
  went
• 40:55
  with
• 40:55
  a
• 40:55
  character
• 40:56
  who
• 40:57
  comes
• 40:57
  from
• 40:57
  the
• 40:58
  comic
• 40:58
  books.
• 40:58
  But
• 40:59
  my
• 40:59
  introduction,
• 41:00
  like
• 41:00
  yours
• 41:00
  with
• 41:00
  Apesapien,
• 41:01
  was
• 41:01
  in
• 41:01
  a
• 41:01
  different
• 41:01
  medium,
• 41:02
  that
• 41:02
  of
• 41:02
  the
• 41:02
  Saturday
• 41:03
  morning
• 41:03
  television
• 41:03
  cartoon.
• 41:04
  And
• 41:04
  I
• 41:04
  am
• 41:05
  of
• 41:05
  course
• 41:05
  referring
• 41:05
  to
• 41:05
  Donatello
• 41:06
  of
• 41:06
  the
• 41:06
  Teenage
• 41:07
  Mutant
• 41:07
  Ninja
• 41:07
  Turtles.
• 41:08
  So
• 41:09
  the
• 41:09
  Ninja
• 41:09
  Turtles,
• 41:11
  created
• 41:11
  as
• 41:11
  kung
• 41:11
  fu
• 41:12
  characters
• 41:12
  by
• 41:13
  Kevin
• 41:13
  Eastman
• 41:13
  and
• 41:13
  Peter
• 41:14
  Laird.
• 41:16
  I
• 41:16
  was
• 41:16
  not
• 41:16
  cool
• 41:17
  enough
• 41:17
  as
• 41:17
  an
• 41:17
  eight
• 41:17
  or
• 41:18
  nine
• 41:18
  year
• 41:18
  old
• 41:18
  or
• 41:18
  whatever
• 41:19
  age
• 41:19
  I
• 41:19
  was
• 41:19
  when
• 41:19
  those
• 41:19
  books
• 41:19
  started
• 41:20
  first
• 41:20
  coming
• 41:20
  out
• 41:20
  to
• 41:20
  be
• 41:20
  reading
• 41:21
  black
• 41:21
  and
• 41:21
  white
• 41:21
  independent
• 41:22
  comics
• 41:25
  for
• 41:26
  probably
• 41:26
  more
• 41:26
  mature
• 41:27
  readers.
• 41:28
  But
• 41:28
  I
• 41:29
  was
• 41:29
  cool
• 41:30
  enough
• 41:30
  to
• 41:30
  watch
• 41:31
  the
• 41:31
  Ninja
• 41:31
  Turtles
• 41:32
  on
• 41:32
  Saturday
• 41:32
  morning.
• 41:34
  And
• 41:34
  so,
• 41:35
  yeah,
• 41:35
  that
• 41:35
  got
• 41:36
  me
• 41:36
  hooked.
• 41:38
  I
• 41:38
  wouldn't
• 41:39
  say
• 41:39
  that
• 41:39
  I
• 41:39
  followed
• 41:40
  the
• 41:40
  Turtles
• 41:40
  consistently
• 41:41
  or
• 41:41
  religiously.
• 41:42
  Since
• 41:42
  then,
• 41:43
  I've
• 41:43
  dipped
• 41:43
  in
• 41:43
  and
• 41:43
  out.
• 41:44
  I
• 41:44
  have
• 41:44
  read,
• 41:44
  you
• 41:44
  know,
• 41:44
  gone
• 41:44
  back
• 41:45
  and
• 41:45
  read
• 41:45
  some
• 41:45
  of
• 41:45
  the
• 41:46
  comics.
• 41:46
  There's
• 41:46
  lots
• 41:46
  of
• 41:46
  comics
• 41:47
  and
• 41:47
  I
• 41:47
  haven't
• 41:48
  gotten
• 41:48
  to
• 41:48
  all
• 41:48
  of
• 41:48
  them
• 41:48
  yet.
• 41:48
  But
• 41:49
  you
• 41:49
  know,
• 41:49
  obviously
• 41:50
  they
• 41:50
  are
• 41:51
  formative.
• 41:52
  You
• 41:52
  know,
• 41:52
  that
• 41:53
  was
• 41:53
  definitely
• 41:53
  a
• 41:53
  significant
• 41:54
  moment
• 41:54
  in
• 41:55
  independent
• 41:56
  comics.
• 41:56
  You
• 41:56
  know,
• 41:56
  that
• 41:57
  this
• 41:58
  book
• 41:58
  from
• 41:58
  Nowhere
• 41:59
  became
• 41:59
  a
• 41:59
  very
• 41:59
  popular
• 42:00
  cartoon
• 42:01
  show
• 42:02
  lineup
• 42:03
  of
• 42:03
  action
• 42:03
  figures,
• 42:04
  movies,
• 42:05
  live
• 42:05
  action
• 42:05
  movies,
• 42:06
  animated
• 42:06
  movies,
• 42:07
  video
• 42:08
  games.
• 42:09
  I
• 42:09
  still
• 42:09
  have
• 42:10
  very
• 42:10
  fond
• 42:10
  memories
• 42:11
  of
• 42:11
  the
• 42:11
  afternoon
• 42:12
  that
• 42:12
  my
• 42:13
  friends
• 42:13
  and
• 42:13
  I
• 42:13
  rented
• 42:14
  teenage
• 42:15
  mutant
• 42:15
  NIN4,
• 42:17
  the
• 42:17
  time
• 42:18
  travel
• 42:18
  one,
• 42:19
  turtles
• 42:19
  through
• 42:19
  time,
• 42:19
  I
• 42:20
  think
• 42:20
  it
• 42:20
  is
• 42:21
  for
• 42:21
  the
• 42:21
  super
• 42:21
  nes.
• 42:22
  And
• 42:23
  went
• 42:23
  to
• 42:23
  my
• 42:23
  friend's
• 42:23
  house
• 42:24
  who
• 42:24
  had
• 42:24
  a
• 42:24
  super
• 42:24
  nes.
• 42:25
  And
• 42:25
  I'm
• 42:26
  pretty
• 42:26
  sure
• 42:26
  we
• 42:26
  just
• 42:26
  sat
• 42:26
  down
• 42:27
  and
• 42:27
  played
• 42:27
  through
• 42:27
  the
• 42:27
  whole
• 42:27
  game
• 42:29
  of
• 42:29
  a
• 42:29
  Saturday
• 42:30
  afternoon.
• 42:30
  Or
• 42:31
  we
• 42:31
  certainly
• 42:31
  got
• 42:32
  very
• 42:32
  far
• 42:32
  with
• 42:33
  it
• 42:33
  if
• 42:33
  we
• 42:33
  didn't.
• 42:34
  But
• 42:34
  yeah,
• 42:34
  so
• 42:35
  they're
• 42:35
  just
• 42:35
  kind
• 42:36
  of
• 42:36
  a
• 42:37
  fun
• 42:37
  bit
• 42:37
  of
• 42:37
  my
• 42:37
  childhood
• 42:38
  and
• 42:38
  Donatello.
• 42:40
  So
• 42:41
  I
• 42:41
  don't
• 42:42
  think
• 42:42
  this
• 42:42
  started
• 42:42
  with
• 42:42
  the
• 42:42
  80s,
• 42:43
  but
• 42:43
  I
• 42:43
  think
• 42:44
  the
• 42:44
  80s
• 42:44
  cartoons
• 42:46
  certainly
• 42:47
  refined
• 42:47
  the
• 42:47
  formula
• 42:48
  of
• 42:49
  you
• 42:49
  create
• 42:50
  a
• 42:50
  team
• 42:50
  and
• 42:50
  you
• 42:51
  give
• 42:51
  everybody
• 42:52
  a
• 42:52
  very
• 42:54
  particular
• 42:55
  personality
• 42:56
  set
• 42:57
  of
• 42:57
  characteristics.
• 42:58
  And
• 42:58
  so
• 42:58
  all
• 42:58
  these
• 42:58
  teams
• 42:59
  had
• 42:59
  to
• 42:59
  have
• 42:59
  the
• 42:59
  smart
• 43:00
  one,
• 43:00
  the
• 43:00
  science
• 43:00
  one,
• 43:01
  whatever,
• 43:02
  who
• 43:03
  was
• 43:03
  the
• 43:03
  tech
• 43:03
  wizard
• 43:04
  or
• 43:04
  the
• 43:04
  computer
• 43:04
  wizard
• 43:05
  or
• 43:05
  the
• 43:05
  science
• 43:05
  wizard
• 43:06
  or
• 43:06
  whatever.
• 43:07
  And,
• 43:08
  you
• 43:08
  know,
• 43:08
  for
• 43:08
  the
• 43:08
  Ninja
• 43:09
  Turtles,
• 43:09
  that
• 43:09
  was
• 43:09
  Donatello.
• 43:10
  And,
• 43:11
  you
• 43:11
  know,
• 43:11
  that
• 43:11
  was
• 43:11
  kind
• 43:12
  of,
• 43:13
  you
• 43:13
  know,
• 43:13
  my
• 43:14
  introduction
• 43:14
  to.
• 43:15
  I
• 43:15
  mean.
• 43:15
  I
• 43:16
  mean,
• 43:16
  I
• 43:16
  wouldn't
• 43:16
  say
• 43:16
  that
• 43:16
  the
• 43:16
  Ninja
• 43:17
  Turtles
• 43:17
  specifically
• 43:17
  were
• 43:17
  my
• 43:18
  introduction
• 43:18
  to,
• 43:18
  but
• 43:18
  those
• 43:18
  kind
• 43:19
  of
• 43:19
  characters,
• 43:19
  you
• 43:20
  know,
• 43:20
  that
• 43:20
  I
• 43:20
  kept
• 43:20
  getting
• 43:21
  drawn
• 43:21
  to
• 43:21
  those
• 43:21
  characters.
• 43:22
  You
• 43:22
  know,
• 43:22
  there's
• 43:23
  an
• 43:23
  interesting
• 43:23
  chicken
• 43:23
  and
• 43:23
  egg
• 43:24
  question
• 43:24
  of,
• 43:24
  is
• 43:24
  that
• 43:24
  why
• 43:25
  I
• 43:25
  was
• 43:25
  interested
• 43:25
  in
• 43:25
  science
• 43:25
  or
• 43:26
  because
• 43:26
  I
• 43:26
  was
• 43:26
  interested
• 43:27
  in
• 43:27
  science?
• 43:27
  I
• 43:27
  was
• 43:27
  drawn
• 43:28
  to
• 43:28
  those
• 43:28
  characters,
• 43:29
  but
• 43:29
  there
• 43:29
  was
• 43:29
  definitely
• 43:30
  an
• 43:30
  affinity
• 43:30
  there
• 43:30
  that
• 43:31
  continued
• 43:32
  to
• 43:32
  grow
• 43:32
  over
• 43:32
  time.
• 43:33
  And
• 43:33
  I
• 43:33
  kept
• 43:34
  kind
• 43:34
  of
• 43:34
  gravitating
• 43:35
  towards,
• 43:35
  oh,
• 43:35
  if
• 43:36
  there's
• 43:36
  a
• 43:36
  science
• 43:36
  one
• 43:37
  or
• 43:39
  something
• 43:39
  like
• 43:39
  that,
• 43:39
  that.
• 43:39
  That
• 43:40
  was
• 43:40
  the
• 43:40
  character
• 43:40
  that
• 43:40
  I
• 43:41
  would
• 43:41
  latch
• 43:41
  onto.
• 43:42
  And,
• 43:42
  you
• 43:43
  know,
• 43:43
  Donatello
• 43:43
  was
• 43:44
  the
• 43:44
  first
• 43:44
  and
• 43:44
  one
• 43:45
  of
• 43:45
  the
• 43:45
  standout
• 43:46
  ones
• 43:46
  there.
• 43:47
  So,
• 43:47
  yeah,
• 43:48
  I
• 43:48
  mean,
• 43:48
  you
• 43:48
  know,
• 43:48
  the
• 43:49
  Ninja
• 43:50
  Turtles,
• 43:50
  you
• 43:50
  know,
• 43:51
  on
• 43:51
  the
• 43:51
  cartoon,
• 43:52
  you
• 43:52
  know,
• 43:52
  not
• 43:53
  the
• 43:53
  deepest
• 43:53
  personalities,
• 43:54
  not
• 43:55
  the
• 43:55
  most
• 43:55
  complex
• 43:55
  stories,
• 43:56
  but,
• 43:57
  you
• 43:57
  know,
• 43:58
  for
• 43:58
  a
• 43:58
  kid,
• 43:58
  you
• 43:59
  know,
• 43:59
  a
• 43:59
  story
• 43:59
  about
• 44:00
  brotherhood
• 44:01
  and
• 44:01
  friendship
• 44:01
  and,
• 44:02
  you
• 44:02
  know,
• 44:03
  navigating
• 44:04
  the
• 44:04
  prejudice
• 44:04
  of
• 44:05
  the
• 44:05
  prejudices
• 44:05
  of
• 44:06
  the
• 44:06
  world.
• 44:06
  I
• 44:07
  mean,
• 44:07
  the
• 44:07
  Ninja
• 44:07
  Turtles
• 44:07
  were
• 44:08
  also
• 44:08
  kind
• 44:08
  of
• 44:08
  in
• 44:08
  that
• 44:08
  defending
• 44:09
  a
• 44:09
  world
• 44:09
  that
• 44:10
  fears
• 44:10
  and
• 44:10
  hates
• 44:10
  them
• 44:11
  kind
• 44:11
  of
• 44:11
  category.
• 44:13
  So
• 44:13
  there
• 44:13
  were
• 44:14
  definitely
• 44:14
  some
• 44:14
  good
• 44:14
  values
• 44:15
  there.
• 44:16
  And
• 44:17
  there's
• 44:17
  this
• 44:17
  Internet
• 44:18
  meme
• 44:18
  of.
• 44:19
  As
• 44:19
  a
• 44:19
  child,
• 44:19
  I
• 44:19
  expected
• 44:20
  that
• 44:20
  more
• 44:20
  of
• 44:20
  my
• 44:20
  adult
• 44:21
  life
• 44:21
  would
• 44:21
  involve
• 44:21
  quicksand
• 44:22
  and
• 44:23
  some
• 44:23
  of
• 44:23
  these
• 44:23
  other
• 44:23
  things,
• 44:24
  the
• 44:24
  tropes
• 44:25
  from
• 44:25
  stories
• 44:25
  that
• 44:26
  turn
• 44:26
  out
• 44:26
  to
• 44:26
  not
• 44:26
  be
• 44:26
  such
• 44:26
  a
• 44:27
  big
• 44:27
  deal
• 44:27
  in
• 44:27
  life.
• 44:27
  I
• 44:28
  think
• 44:28
  I'm
• 44:28
  realizing,
• 44:29
  as
• 44:29
  I
• 44:29
  was
• 44:29
  reflecting
• 44:29
  for
• 44:30
  this
• 44:30
  episode
• 44:30
  and
• 44:30
  reflecting
• 44:31
  on
• 44:31
  the
• 44:31
  Turtles,
• 44:31
  I
• 44:31
  think
• 44:31
  I
• 44:32
  realized
• 44:32
  that
• 44:33
  one
• 44:33
  of
• 44:33
  the
• 44:33
  things
• 44:33
  I
• 44:34
  expected
• 44:34
  from
• 44:34
  my
• 44:34
  childhood
• 44:35
  to
• 44:35
  be
• 44:36
  a
• 44:36
  bigger
• 44:36
  deal
• 44:36
  in
• 44:36
  adult
• 44:37
  life
• 44:37
  was
• 44:37
  being
• 44:38
  a
• 44:38
  part
• 44:38
  of
• 44:38
  some
• 44:38
  kind
• 44:38
  of
• 44:39
  squad
• 44:39
  or
• 44:39
  team
• 44:39
  where
• 44:40
  everybody
• 44:40
  had
• 44:41
  perfectly
• 44:41
  complementary
• 44:42
  skills
• 44:42
  and
• 44:43
  personalities,
• 44:43
  and
• 44:43
  we
• 44:43
  all
• 44:44
  worked
• 44:44
  together
• 44:44
  to
• 44:44
  accomplish
• 44:45
  missions.
• 44:46
  And,
• 44:47
  yeah,
• 44:48
  missions
• 44:48
  have
• 44:48
  been
• 44:49
  a
• 44:49
  much
• 44:49
  smaller
• 44:50
  part
• 44:50
  of
• 44:50
  my
• 44:50
  adult
• 44:50
  life
• 44:50
  than
• 44:51
  I
• 44:51
  expected.
• 44:52
  Based
• 44:52
  on
• 44:52
  childhood
• 44:53
  of
• 44:54
  Ninja
• 44:54
  Turtles
• 44:54
  and
• 44:55
  a
• 44:55
  team
• 44:55
  and
• 44:55
  Knight
• 44:56
  Rider
• 44:56
  and
• 44:59
  Rescue
• 44:59
  Rangers
• 44:59
  and,
• 44:59
  you
• 45:00
  know,
• 45:00
  all
• 45:00
  those.
• 45:00
  All
• 45:00
  those
• 45:01
  kinds
• 45:01
  of
• 45:01
  things.
• 45:01
  Yeah,
• 45:02
  just
• 45:02
  not
• 45:02
  enough
• 45:02
  missions
• 45:03
  as
• 45:03
  an
• 45:03
  adult.
• 45:04
  I
• 45:05
  think
• 45:05
  maybe
• 45:05
  that's
• 45:05
  why
• 45:05
  I
• 45:06
  like
• 45:06
  escape
• 45:06
  rooms.
• 45:06
  I
• 45:07
  think
• 45:07
  that's
• 45:07
  the
• 45:07
  closest
• 45:08
  to
• 45:08
  going
• 45:09
  on
• 45:09
  a
• 45:10
  Saturday
• 45:11
  morning
• 45:12
  mission
• 45:13
  kind
• 45:13
  of
• 45:13
  kind
• 45:14
  of
• 45:14
  adventure
• 45:14
  is
• 45:15
  doing
• 45:15
  an
• 45:15
  escape
• 45:15
  room.
• 45:16
  So
• 45:16
  anyway,
• 45:17
  that
• 45:17
  was
• 45:17
  a
• 45:17
  little
• 45:17
  bit
• 45:17
  of
• 45:17
  a
• 45:18
  tangent,
• 45:18
  but,
• 45:18
  yeah,
• 45:19
  that's
• 45:19
  My.
• 45:19
  That's
• 45:19
  my
• 45:19
  number
• 45:20
  one
• 45:20
  Donatello
• 45:20
  of
• 45:20
  the
• 45:21
  Ninja
• 45:21
  Turtles.
• 45:21
  I
• 45:22
  mean,
• 45:22
  hey,
• 45:22
  Andy,
• 45:22
  you
• 45:23
  could
• 45:23
  count
• 45:23
  this
• 45:23
  podcast
• 45:24
  as
• 45:24
  group
• 45:25
  missions
• 45:25
  here
• 45:25
  where
• 45:26
  we
• 45:26
  have
• 45:26
  our
• 45:26
  own
• 45:27
  personalities.
• 45:27
  I
• 45:28
  try
• 45:28
  to
• 45:28
  relate
• 45:28
  at
• 45:28
  work,
• 45:29
  too,
• 45:29
  because.
• 45:29
  Well,
• 45:30
  I'll
• 45:30
  go
• 45:30
  ahead
• 45:30
  and
• 45:30
  say
• 45:30
  so.
• 45:31
  You
• 45:31
  and
• 45:31
  I
• 45:31
  think
• 45:31
  alike
• 45:32
  here.
• 45:32
  Why
• 45:32
  did
• 45:32
  I
• 45:32
  pick
• 45:33
  the
• 45:33
  exact
• 45:33
  same
• 45:33
  turtle?
• 45:34
  Although
• 45:34
  Donatello
• 45:35
  is,
• 45:35
  like,
• 45:36
  close
• 45:36
  second
• 45:36
  for
• 45:37
  me.
• 45:37
  But
• 45:38
  this
• 45:38
  was
• 45:38
  also.
• 45:39
  The
• 45:39
  Turtles
• 45:39
  came
• 45:40
  to
• 45:40
  mind
• 45:40
  also
• 45:41
  for
• 45:41
  similar
• 45:42
  reasons
• 45:42
  as
• 45:43
  you.
• 45:43
  I
• 45:43
  grew
• 45:44
  up
• 45:44
  on.
• 45:44
  I
• 45:44
  think
• 45:45
  each
• 45:45
  one
• 45:46
  depending
• 45:47
  on,
• 45:47
  like,
• 45:47
  when
• 45:47
  you
• 45:48
  grew
• 45:48
  up.
• 45:48
  We
• 45:48
  kind
• 45:49
  of
• 45:49
  all
• 45:49
  have
• 45:49
  our
• 45:50
  eras
• 45:50
  of
• 45:50
  turtles
• 45:51
  we
• 45:51
  grew
• 45:51
  up
• 45:52
  in.
• 45:52
  For
• 45:53
  me,
• 45:53
  it
• 45:53
  was
• 45:53
  the
• 45:54
  early
• 45:54
  2000s
• 45:55
  animated
• 45:55
  series
• 45:57
  that,
• 45:58
  like,
• 45:58
  was
• 45:58
  classic.
• 45:59
  I
• 45:59
  mean,
• 45:59
  I
• 46:00
  think
• 46:00
  it.
• 46:00
  I
• 46:00
  think
• 46:00
  it
• 46:01
  ran
• 46:01
  on
• 46:01
  Fox,
• 46:01
  if
• 46:01
  I'm
• 46:02
  not
• 46:02
  mistaken.
• 46:02
  It
• 46:03
  was
• 46:03
  that
• 46:03
  and
• 46:03
  then
• 46:03
  the
• 46:03
  90s
• 46:04
  movies.
• 46:04
  So
• 46:05
  those
• 46:05
  are
• 46:05
  my
• 46:05
  introductions.
• 46:06
  But
• 46:07
  for
• 46:07
  me,
• 46:07
  Leonardo
• 46:08
  is
• 46:08
  my
• 46:08
  guy.
• 46:09
  Like,
• 46:10
  I
• 46:10
  mean,
• 46:10
  I
• 46:10
  love
• 46:11
  all
• 46:11
  of
• 46:11
  them,
• 46:12
  but
• 46:12
  I
• 46:12
  don't
• 46:12
  know
• 46:12
  if
• 46:13
  it
• 46:13
  was.
• 46:13
  There
• 46:13
  were
• 46:14
  many
• 46:14
  reasons.
• 46:14
  I
• 46:14
  think
• 46:14
  I
• 46:15
  gravitated
• 46:15
  toward
• 46:16
  the
• 46:16
  character.
• 46:17
  It
• 46:17
  was.
• 46:17
  I
• 46:18
  mean,
• 46:18
  blue
• 46:18
  is
• 46:18
  my
• 46:18
  favorite
• 46:19
  color.
• 46:20
  I
• 46:20
  like.
• 46:20
  And
• 46:21
  just
• 46:21
  from
• 46:21
  a.
• 46:22
  Like,
• 46:23
  when
• 46:23
  I
• 46:23
  had
• 46:23
  all
• 46:24
  the
• 46:24
  action
• 46:24
  figures,
• 46:25
  I
• 46:25
  like
• 46:25
  Leo
• 46:26
  the
• 46:26
  best
• 46:26
  because
• 46:26
  he
• 46:26
  had
• 46:26
  the
• 46:26
  swords.
• 46:27
  I
• 46:27
  just
• 46:27
  thought
• 46:27
  that
• 46:27
  was
• 46:28
  cool.
• 46:28
  And
• 46:29
  so
• 46:30
  there
• 46:30
  were
• 46:30
  a
• 46:30
  lot
• 46:30
  of.
• 46:30
  But
• 46:31
  he's
• 46:31
  also.
• 46:32
  Yeah,
• 46:32
  I
• 46:32
  mean,
• 46:32
  he's
• 46:32
  obviously
• 46:33
  the
• 46:33
  group
• 46:33
  leader,
• 46:34
  but.
• 46:34
  And
• 46:34
  I
• 46:35
  kind
• 46:35
  of
• 46:35
  see
• 46:35
  him
• 46:35
  and
• 46:36
  Mikey
• 46:36
  as.
• 46:37
  But,
• 46:38
  you
• 46:38
  know,
• 46:38
  in
• 46:38
  many
• 46:38
  ways,
• 46:39
  like,
• 46:39
  they
• 46:39
  both
• 46:39
  kind
• 46:39
  of
• 46:40
  lead.
• 46:42
  I
• 46:42
  mean.
• 46:42
  Sorry,
• 46:42
  sorry,
• 46:43
  Ralph.
• 46:43
  I
• 46:43
  meant,
• 46:44
  yeah,
• 46:44
  Mikey,
• 46:44
  that
• 46:44
  would
• 46:44
  be
• 46:44
  a
• 46:45
  little
• 46:45
  too
• 46:45
  much.
• 46:45
  But.
• 46:46
  But
• 46:46
  him
• 46:46
  and
• 46:46
  Ralph
• 46:47
  kind
• 46:47
  of
• 46:47
  have
• 46:47
  to,
• 46:47
  like,
• 46:48
  sort
• 46:48
  of
• 46:48
  tug
• 46:49
  of
• 46:49
  war
• 46:49
  a
• 46:49
  lot
• 46:49
  of
• 46:49
  times
• 46:49
  for
• 46:50
  leadership
• 46:51
  of
• 46:51
  the
• 46:51
  Turtles.
• 46:52
  And
• 46:52
  Ralph
• 46:53
  is
• 46:53
  more
• 46:53
  hot
• 46:53
  headed,
• 46:54
  but
• 46:54
  they
• 46:54
  also
• 46:55
  need
• 46:55
  each
• 46:55
  other,
• 46:56
  him
• 46:56
  and
• 46:56
  Leo.
• 46:56
  And
• 46:57
  what
• 46:57
  I
• 46:58
  liked,
• 46:58
  I
• 46:58
  think,
• 46:59
  most
• 46:59
  about
• 46:59
  Leonardo,
• 47:00
  again,
• 47:00
  watching
• 47:01
  him
• 47:01
  in
• 47:01
  the
• 47:01
  90s
• 47:01
  movies,
• 47:02
  watching
• 47:02
  him
• 47:02
  in
• 47:02
  the
• 47:02
  early
• 47:03
  2000s
• 47:03
  animated
• 47:03
  series,
• 47:04
  later
• 47:04
  on,
• 47:04
  reading
• 47:05
  the
• 47:05
  comics,
• 47:06
  is
• 47:06
  that,
• 47:07
  you
• 47:07
  know,
• 47:07
  he
• 47:07
  has
• 47:08
  this
• 47:08
  instinct
• 47:09
  as
• 47:09
  a
• 47:09
  leader,
• 47:09
  but
• 47:10
  he's
• 47:10
  also
• 47:10
  not
• 47:11
  perfect.
• 47:11
  He,
• 47:12
  you
• 47:12
  know,
• 47:12
  he
• 47:12
  was
• 47:12
  right.
• 47:13
  He
• 47:13
  knows
• 47:13
  when
• 47:13
  he
• 47:14
  makes
• 47:14
  mistakes.
• 47:14
  He.
• 47:16
  And
• 47:16
  ultimately
• 47:17
  he
• 47:18
  feels
• 47:18
  the
• 47:18
  burden,
• 47:19
  too,
• 47:19
  of
• 47:19
  leadership
• 47:19
  in
• 47:20
  many
• 47:20
  ways.
• 47:21
  And
• 47:22
  he
• 47:22
  is
• 47:22
  always
• 47:23
  going
• 47:23
  to
• 47:24
  splinter
• 47:25
  for
• 47:27
  advice
• 47:27
  and,
• 47:28
  you
• 47:28
  know,
• 47:28
  that
• 47:29
  mentorship.
• 47:30
  But
• 47:30
  yeah,
• 47:31
  I
• 47:31
  mean,
• 47:31
  the
• 47:31
  Turtles
• 47:32
  are
• 47:32
  just.
• 47:33
  They're
• 47:34
  so
• 47:34
  relatable
• 47:34
  and
• 47:35
  so
• 47:35
  cool
• 47:35
  for
• 47:35
  kids
• 47:36
  across,
• 47:37
  but
• 47:37
  for
• 47:37
  adults,
• 47:38
  too.
• 47:38
  I
• 47:38
  mean.
• 47:38
  And
• 47:39
  the
• 47:39
  cool
• 47:39
  thing
• 47:39
  is,
• 47:39
  you
• 47:40
  know,
• 47:40
  being
• 47:40
  able
• 47:41
  to
• 47:41
  read
• 47:42
  the
• 47:42
  comics
• 47:42
  as
• 47:42
  adult
• 47:43
  because
• 47:43
  a
• 47:43
  lot
• 47:43
  of
• 47:43
  them,
• 47:44
  especially
• 47:44
  last
• 47:45
  Ronin,
• 47:45
  not
• 47:46
  exactly
• 47:46
  a
• 47:46
  kid's
• 47:46
  book.
• 47:47
  It
• 47:47
  has
• 47:47
  a
• 47:47
  lot
• 47:47
  of,
• 47:47
  like,
• 47:48
  darker
• 47:48
  themes
• 47:49
  in
• 47:49
  there.
• 47:49
  And
• 47:50
  yeah,
• 47:51
  that's
• 47:51
  what
• 47:51
  I
• 47:51
  love
• 47:51
  about
• 47:51
  these
• 47:52
  characters
• 47:52
  is
• 47:53
  they
• 47:53
  are
• 47:53
  one
• 47:53
  group
• 47:54
  where
• 47:54
  I
• 47:54
  feel
• 47:54
  Like,
• 47:54
  I've
• 47:54
  grown
• 47:54
  up
• 47:55
  with
• 47:55
  them.
• 47:55
  They're
• 47:55
  a
• 47:56
  big
• 47:56
  part
• 47:56
  of
• 47:56
  my
• 47:56
  childhood.
• 47:57
  But
• 47:57
  they've
• 47:58
  also,
• 47:58
  you
• 47:59
  know,
• 47:59
  had
• 47:59
  this
• 47:59
  long
• 48:00
  lasting
• 48:00
  legacy
• 48:01
  for
• 48:02
  many
• 48:02
  generations.
• 48:03
  And
• 48:04
  yeah,
• 48:04
  Leo
• 48:05
  was
• 48:05
  just
• 48:05
  always
• 48:06
  one
• 48:06
  I
• 48:07
  really
• 48:07
  related
• 48:07
  to,
• 48:08
  I
• 48:08
  thought
• 48:08
  was
• 48:08
  really
• 48:09
  cool.
• 48:09
  I
• 48:09
  love
• 48:10
  all
• 48:10
  of
• 48:10
  them
• 48:10
  and
• 48:10
  I
• 48:10
  like
• 48:10
  all
• 48:11
  the
• 48:11
  different
• 48:11
  personality
• 48:11
  traits
• 48:11
  and
• 48:12
  they
• 48:12
  have
• 48:12
  Donatello
• 48:13
  being
• 48:13
  the
• 48:14
  most
• 48:14
  intelligent
• 48:15
  of
• 48:15
  them
• 48:15
  and.
• 48:16
  And
• 48:16
  very
• 48:16
  wise
• 48:17
  and
• 48:17
  also
• 48:18
  really
• 48:18
  cool.
• 48:18
  Mikey
• 48:19
  being
• 48:19
  the
• 48:20
  goofy,
• 48:20
  kind
• 48:20
  of
• 48:20
  more
• 48:21
  party
• 48:21
  animal
• 48:21
  and
• 48:22
  Ralph
• 48:22
  being
• 48:22
  a
• 48:22
  little
• 48:22
  more
• 48:23
  hot
• 48:23
  headed,
• 48:23
  but
• 48:23
  also
• 48:24
  the
• 48:24
  one
• 48:25
  that
• 48:25
  will,
• 48:25
  you
• 48:26
  know,
• 48:27
  never
• 48:28
  let
• 48:28
  anything
• 48:28
  happen
• 48:28
  to
• 48:29
  his
• 48:29
  brothers
• 48:29
  and
• 48:30
  will
• 48:31
  fight
• 48:31
  to
• 48:31
  the
• 48:31
  last
• 48:31
  minute.
• 48:32
  And
• 48:33
  so,
• 48:33
  you
• 48:33
  know,
• 48:34
  I
• 48:34
  love
• 48:34
  all
• 48:34
  of
• 48:34
  them
• 48:34
  for
• 48:35
  different
• 48:36
  reasons.
• 48:36
  But.
• 48:37
  But
• 48:37
  yeah,
• 48:37
  I
• 48:38
  mean,
• 48:38
  Turtles
• 48:38
  was
• 48:38
  just
• 48:39
  like
• 48:39
  quintessential.
• 48:39
  Like,
• 48:40
  I
• 48:40
  still
• 48:40
  remember
• 48:41
  getting
• 48:41
  the
• 48:42
  figures
• 48:42
  at
• 48:42
  Toys
• 48:42
  R
• 48:43
  Us
• 48:44
  for
• 48:44
  kids
• 48:44
  Listening.
• 48:45
  Toys
• 48:45
  R
• 48:45
  Us
• 48:45
  was
• 48:46
  the
• 48:46
  store
• 48:46
  you
• 48:46
  actually
• 48:46
  went
• 48:46
  to
• 48:47
  go
• 48:47
  buy
• 48:47
  toys
• 48:48
  from.
• 48:48
  You
• 48:49
  didn't
• 48:49
  get
• 48:49
  everything
• 48:49
  online
• 48:49
  back
• 48:50
  in
• 48:50
  those
• 48:50
  days,
• 48:51
  but.
• 48:52
  But
• 48:53
  yeah,
• 48:53
  it
• 48:53
  was
• 48:53
  quite
• 48:54
  a
• 48:54
  time.
• 48:54
  And
• 48:54
  I
• 48:55
  mean,
• 48:55
  I
• 48:55
  got.
• 48:55
  I
• 48:55
  had
• 48:55
  the
• 48:56
  movies
• 48:56
  like
• 48:56
  on
• 48:56
  vhs.
• 48:58
  You
• 48:58
  know,
• 48:58
  those
• 48:58
  were
• 48:59
  just
• 48:59
  a
• 49:00
  key
• 49:00
  part
• 49:00
  of
• 49:01
  my
• 49:01
  childhood.
• 49:01
  So,
• 49:02
  yeah,
• 49:02
  I
• 49:02
  love
• 49:03
  that
• 49:03
  we
• 49:03
  both.
• 49:04
  As
• 49:04
  soon
• 49:04
  as
• 49:04
  you
• 49:04
  started
• 49:05
  talking,
• 49:05
  I
• 49:05
  was
• 49:05
  like,
• 49:05
  okay,
• 49:06
  you
• 49:06
  picked
• 49:06
  Turtle
• 49:06
  two.
• 49:07
  I
• 49:07
  had
• 49:07
  a
• 49:07
  feeling
• 49:07
  you
• 49:07
  picked
• 49:07
  Donatello
• 49:08
  because
• 49:08
  I
• 49:08
  think
• 49:09
  every
• 49:09
  academic
• 49:10
  gravitates
• 49:11
  toward
• 49:11
  Donatello
• 49:11
  the
• 49:12
  most.
• 49:12
  Like,
• 49:13
  I
• 49:13
  mean,
• 49:13
  that's.
• 49:14
  But.
• 49:15
  But
• 49:15
  yeah.
• 49:15
  And
• 49:15
  Leo
• 49:16
  kind
• 49:16
  of
• 49:16
  has
• 49:16
  that
• 49:16
  both
• 49:16
  of
• 49:17
  like
• 49:17
  intelligence
• 49:18
  and
• 49:19
  he
• 49:19
  can
• 49:20
  fight
• 49:20
  and
• 49:20
  you
• 49:20
  know,
• 49:20
  and
• 49:21
  like,
• 49:22
  but,
• 49:22
  you
• 49:22
  know,
• 49:22
  has
• 49:23
  his
• 49:23
  own
• 49:23
  immaturities
• 49:23
  he
• 49:24
  wrestles
• 49:24
  with
• 49:24
  as
• 49:24
  well.
• 49:24
  I
• 49:25
  just,
• 49:25
  I
• 49:25
  liked
• 49:25
  all
• 49:26
  the
• 49:26
  different
• 49:26
  layers
• 49:26
  to
• 49:26
  his
• 49:27
  character.
• 49:27
  So
• 49:28
  it's
• 49:28
  a
• 49:28
  good
• 49:28
  one.
• 49:28
  But
• 49:29
  yeah,
• 49:29
  I
• 49:30
  also.
• 49:30
  The
• 49:30
  fun
• 49:30
  thing
• 49:31
  about
• 49:31
  that
• 49:31
  the
• 49:31
  2000s
• 49:32
  animated
• 49:32
  series
• 49:32
  was
• 49:33
  it
• 49:33
  was
• 49:33
  notorious
• 49:34
  for
• 49:35
  every
• 49:35
  episode
• 49:36
  would
• 49:36
  end
• 49:36
  with
• 49:36
  a
• 49:37
  To
• 49:37
  be
• 49:37
  continued.
• 49:38
  Okay.
• 49:38
  It
• 49:39
  was
• 49:39
  very
• 49:39
  much
• 49:39
  structured
• 49:40
  in
• 49:40
  that
• 49:40
  way.
• 49:41
  But.
• 49:41
  But
• 49:41
  the
• 49:41
  animations
• 49:42
  are
• 49:42
  great.
• 49:42
  That's
• 49:42
  where
• 49:42
  I
• 49:43
  had
• 49:43
  all
• 49:43
  the
• 49:43
  figures
• 49:43
  from.
• 49:45
  And
• 49:45
  yeah,
• 49:45
  I
• 49:45
  mean
• 49:45
  it
• 49:45
  had
• 49:46
  Casey,
• 49:46
  April,
• 49:47
  Shredder,
• 49:48
  all
• 49:48
  that.
• 49:49
  A
• 49:49
  lot
• 49:50
  of
• 49:50
  favorite
• 49:50
  turtle
• 49:50
  stories
• 49:51
  out
• 49:51
  there.
• 49:51
  I
• 49:51
  also,
• 49:52
  since
• 49:52
  I'm
• 49:52
  wearing
• 49:53
  a
• 49:53
  Batman
• 49:53
  shirt,
• 49:53
  I
• 49:53
  love
• 49:54
  the
• 49:54
  Batman
• 49:55
  TMNT
• 49:56
  book
• 49:56
  is.
• 49:56
  And
• 49:57
  the
• 49:57
  animated
• 49:57
  movies
• 49:57
  are
• 49:58
  excellent.
• 49:59
  Sure.
• 49:59
  Yeah.
• 50:00
  So
• 50:00
  is
• 50:00
  that.
• 50:01
  Is
• 50:01
  that
• 50:01
  your.
• 50:01
  Your
• 50:02
  pick
• 50:02
  is
• 50:02
  Leonardo
• 50:03
  for
• 50:03
  the.
• 50:03
  From
• 50:03
  the
• 50:03
  Turtles.
• 50:04
  That
• 50:04
  is
• 50:04
  funny.
• 50:05
  He
• 50:05
  is
• 50:06
  my
• 50:06
  number
• 50:06
  one.
• 50:06
  Yep.
• 50:07
  Yep.
• 50:07
  So
• 50:07
  we
• 50:08
  like.
• 50:08
  Yeah.
• 50:08
  So
• 50:08
  we
• 50:08
  both.
• 50:09
  I
• 50:09
  ended
• 50:10
  on
• 50:10
  a
• 50:10
  Turtles
• 50:11
  high
• 50:11
  for
• 50:11
  this
• 50:11
  one,
• 50:11
  but
• 50:12
  yeah,
• 50:12
  excellent.
• 50:13
  Yeah.
• 50:14
  So
• 50:14
  I.
• 50:15
  This
• 50:15
  was
• 50:15
  a
• 50:15
  blast.
• 50:15
  I
• 50:16
  really,
• 50:16
  I
• 50:16
  really
• 50:16
  enjoyed
• 50:17
  hearing
• 50:17
  your
• 50:17
  picks
• 50:17
  and
• 50:18
  I,
• 50:18
  I
• 50:18
  think
• 50:18
  we
• 50:18
  could
• 50:18
  go.
• 50:19
  There's
• 50:19
  so
• 50:19
  many
• 50:19
  more
• 50:19
  we
• 50:19
  could
• 50:20
  go
• 50:20
  for,
• 50:21
  you
• 50:22
  know,
• 50:22
  and.
• 50:22
  And
• 50:23
  like
• 50:23
  I
• 50:23
  said
• 50:23
  too
• 50:23
  earlier,
• 50:24
  there
• 50:24
  are
• 50:24
  a
• 50:25
  lot
• 50:25
  of
• 50:25
  Books
• 50:25
  where
• 50:26
  in
• 50:26
  the
• 50:27
  indie
• 50:27
  world
• 50:27
  that
• 50:28
  I
• 50:28
  love,
• 50:28
  but,
• 50:29
  you
• 50:29
  know,
• 50:29
  and
• 50:30
  iconic
• 50:30
  characters,
• 50:30
  but
• 50:31
  not
• 50:31
  necessarily
• 50:32
  ones
• 50:32
  I
• 50:32
  relate
• 50:32
  to.
• 50:33
  And
• 50:34
  also
• 50:34
  a
• 50:34
  lot
• 50:34
  of
• 50:34
  indie.
• 50:35
  Big
• 50:35
  indie
• 50:35
  comics
• 50:36
  that,
• 50:36
  like,
• 50:36
  I
• 50:36
  mean,
• 50:37
  I've
• 50:37
  read
• 50:37
  some
• 50:37
  of.
• 50:37
  But
• 50:38
  I
• 50:38
  like,
• 50:38
  like,
• 50:38
  I
• 50:38
  mean,
• 50:38
  I
• 50:39
  have
• 50:39
  a
• 50:39
  Spawn
• 50:39
  figure
• 50:40
  on
• 50:40
  my
• 50:40
  wall,
• 50:40
  but
• 50:41
  I
• 50:41
  haven't
• 50:41
  read
• 50:41
  a
• 50:42
  ton
• 50:42
  of
• 50:42
  Spawn.
• 50:42
  I
• 50:42
  just,
• 50:42
  you
• 50:43
  know,
• 50:43
  it's
• 50:43
  just
• 50:43
  a
• 50:44
  iconic
• 50:44
  character
• 50:45
  and
• 50:45
  I
• 50:45
  like
• 50:45
  the
• 50:45
  figure
• 50:46
  up
• 50:46
  on
• 50:46
  the
• 50:46
  wall
• 50:46
  there
• 50:46
  with
• 50:47
  some
• 50:47
  other
• 50:47
  horror
• 50:47
  stuff.
• 50:48
  But
• 50:49
  yeah,
• 50:49
  there's
• 50:49
  a
• 50:49
  lot
• 50:50
  of
• 50:50
  the
• 50:50
  90s
• 50:50
  image
• 50:50
  stuff
• 50:51
  I,
• 50:51
  you
• 50:51
  know,
• 50:51
  I've
• 50:51
  dabbled
• 50:52
  in,
• 50:52
  but
• 50:52
  I
• 50:52
  haven't
• 50:52
  really
• 50:53
  read
• 50:53
  as
• 50:53
  much.
• 50:53
  Again,
• 50:54
  I
• 50:54
  came
• 50:54
  on
• 50:54
  more
• 50:55
  from
• 50:55
  the,
• 50:56
  like,
• 50:56
  2012
• 50:56
  and
• 50:57
  up
• 50:57
  era
• 50:58
  and
• 50:58
  some
• 50:59
  books
• 50:59
  too.
• 50:59
  Like,
• 51:00
  I
• 51:00
  mean,
• 51:00
  they're
• 51:00
  more
• 51:01
  limited
• 51:01
  series
• 51:02
  or,
• 51:02
  you
• 51:02
  know,
• 51:02
  they
• 51:03
  may
• 51:03
  run
• 51:03
  like,
• 51:03
  you
• 51:04
  know,
• 51:04
  25,
• 51:04
  30
• 51:05
  issues.
• 51:06
  So
• 51:06
  it's
• 51:06
  not
• 51:06
  like
• 51:07
  a
• 51:07
  big
• 51:07
  ongoing
• 51:08
  that
• 51:09
  runs
• 51:09
  300
• 51:10
  issues
• 51:10
  or
• 51:10
  whatever.
• 51:11
  Yeah,
• 51:11
  I
• 51:11
  mean,
• 51:12
  you
• 51:12
  know,
• 51:12
  the
• 51:12
  indie
• 51:13
  comics
• 51:13
  world,
• 51:14
  you
• 51:14
  know,
• 51:14
  there's.
• 51:14
  There's
• 51:15
  a
• 51:15
  million
• 51:15
  things
• 51:16
  we
• 51:16
  could
• 51:16
  have
• 51:16
  talked
• 51:16
  about.
• 51:17
  You
• 51:17
  know,
• 51:17
  I
• 51:17
  was
• 51:17
  thinking
• 51:17
  about
• 51:17
  Will
• 51:18
  Eisner's
• 51:18
  the
• 51:18
  Spirit.
• 51:19
  Right.
• 51:19
  A
• 51:19
  seminal
• 51:20
  early
• 51:20
  work
• 51:21
  in
• 51:21
  comics.
• 51:23
  You
• 51:23
  know,
• 51:23
  my
• 51:23
  daughter
• 51:24
  took
• 51:24
  a
• 51:24
  trip
• 51:24
  to
• 51:24
  France
• 51:25
  with
• 51:25
  their
• 51:25
  high
• 51:25
  school
• 51:25
  class
• 51:26
  and
• 51:26
  went
• 51:26
  to
• 51:26
  the
• 51:26
  Asterisk
• 51:27
  and
• 51:27
  Obelique
• 51:28
  theme
• 51:29
  park
• 51:29
  over
• 51:29
  there.
• 51:30
  Right.
• 51:30
  So
• 51:30
  those
• 51:30
  are
• 51:30
  two.
• 51:32
  I
• 51:32
  don't
• 51:32
  know
• 51:32
  if
• 51:32
  they're
• 51:32
  French
• 51:33
  or
• 51:33
  Belgian.
• 51:34
  French
• 51:35
  comic
• 51:35
  book
• 51:36
  characters,
• 51:37
  you
• 51:37
  know,
• 51:37
  that
• 51:37
  are
• 51:37
  like
• 51:37
  the
• 51:38
  biggest
• 51:38
  thing
• 51:38
  in
• 51:39
  Europe
• 51:40
  in
• 51:40
  terms
• 51:40
  of
• 51:40
  independent
• 51:41
  comics.
• 51:42
  You've
• 51:42
  got
• 51:42
  all
• 51:43
  the
• 51:43
  manga.
• 51:43
  Right.
• 51:44
  There's
• 51:44
  lots
• 51:44
  of
• 51:45
  stories.
• 51:46
  The
• 51:46
  breadth
• 51:46
  of
• 51:48
  this
• 51:48
  kind
• 51:48
  of
• 51:48
  thing
• 51:49
  is
• 51:49
  quite
• 51:50
  substantial.
• 51:51
  Oh,
• 51:51
  and
• 51:51
  manga,
• 51:52
  like,
• 51:52
  I.
• 51:53
  Manga
• 51:53
  is
• 51:53
  not.
• 51:54
  Oh,
• 51:54
  yeah.
• 51:55
  Manga
• 51:55
  is
• 51:55
  not
• 51:56
  even
• 51:56
  one
• 51:56
  I've
• 51:56
  delved
• 51:57
  into.
• 51:57
  Not
• 51:57
  because
• 51:57
  I
• 51:58
  have
• 51:58
  any,
• 51:58
  like,
• 51:58
  disdain
• 51:59
  for
• 51:59
  the
• 51:59
  medium.
• 51:59
  It's
• 51:59
  just
• 52:00
  like.
• 52:00
  It's
• 52:00
  intimidating
• 52:01
  how
• 52:01
  much
• 52:01
  there
• 52:01
  is
• 52:01
  out
• 52:02
  there.
• 52:02
  But.
• 52:02
  But
• 52:03
  yeah,
• 52:03
  we
• 52:03
  have
• 52:03
  a.
• 52:03
  If
• 52:04
  you're
• 52:04
  a
• 52:04
  manga
• 52:05
  fan,
• 52:05
  we
• 52:05
  have
• 52:05
  a
• 52:05
  feature
• 52:05
  on.
• 52:06
  On
• 52:06
  systematic
• 52:07
  ecology
• 52:07
  called
• 52:08
  Manga
• 52:08
  Mustard.
• 52:10
  So
• 52:10
  you
• 52:10
  can.
• 52:10
  Some
• 52:11
  of
• 52:11
  our
• 52:11
  hosts
• 52:11
  are
• 52:11
  big
• 52:11
  enthusiasts
• 52:12
  there.
• 52:13
  Yeah.
• 52:13
  So
• 52:13
  if
• 52:13
  we.
• 52:13
  If
• 52:14
  we
• 52:14
  left
• 52:14
  out
• 52:14
  your
• 52:14
  favorite
• 52:14
  indie
• 52:15
  comic
• 52:15
  character,
• 52:15
  it
• 52:16
  is
• 52:16
  not
• 52:16
  a
• 52:17
  slight.
• 52:17
  It
• 52:17
  is
• 52:17
  just,
• 52:18
  you
• 52:18
  know,
• 52:18
  if
• 52:18
  you
• 52:18
  only
• 52:18
  can
• 52:19
  pick
• 52:19
  three,
• 52:19
  there's
• 52:19
  a
• 52:19
  lot
• 52:20
  of.

• 52:26
  as
• 52:26
  well,
• 52:26
  because
• 52:26
  there's
• 52:26
  lots
• 52:27
  of
• 52:27
  worthy
• 52:28
  characters
• 52:28
  and
• 52:28
  books
• 52:29
  out
• 52:29
  there.
• 52:29
  Absolutely.
• 52:30
  And
• 52:30
  we
• 52:31
  do
• 52:31
  have
• 52:31
  a
• 52:31
  bonus
• 52:32
  question
• 52:32
  for
• 52:34
  Patreon
• 52:34
  subscribers,
• 52:35
  so
• 52:35
  you'll
• 52:35
  hear
• 52:36
  after.
• 52:36
  And
• 52:37
  if
• 52:37
  you
• 52:37
  want
• 52:37
  to
• 52:37
  support
• 52:38
  our
• 52:38
  Patreon,
• 52:39
  the
• 52:39
  bonus
• 52:39
  question
• 52:39
  will
• 52:40
  be,
• 52:40
  what
• 52:41
  is
• 52:41
  an
• 52:42
  indie
• 52:42
  comic
• 52:43
  book
• 52:43
  or
• 52:43
  a
• 52:44
  character
• 52:44
  that
• 52:45
  maybe
• 52:45
  isn't
• 52:46
  relatable
• 52:47
  but
• 52:47
  still
• 52:47
  iconic
• 52:48
  and
• 52:48
  still
• 52:48
  that
• 52:49
  you
• 52:49
  gravitate
• 52:49
  to
• 52:49
  towards.
• 52:50
  So
• 52:50
  we'll
• 52:50
  be
• 52:51
  talking
• 52:51
  about
• 52:51
  that
• 52:51
  in
• 52:51
  the
• 52:51
  bonus
• 52:51
  round.
• 52:52
  But
• 52:53
  yeah,
• 52:53
  Andy,
• 52:53
  this
• 52:53
  has
• 52:54
  been
• 52:54
  an
• 52:54
  absolute
• 52:54
  blast.
• 52:55
  I
• 52:55
  really
• 52:56
  enjoyed
• 52:57
  hearing
• 52:57
  your
• 52:58
  picks.
• 52:58
  And
• 52:59
  yeah,
• 52:59
  it
• 52:59
  was
• 52:59
  fun
• 52:59
  kind
• 53:00
  of
• 53:00
  talking
• 53:00
  to
• 53:00
  comics
• 53:01
  that
• 53:01
  aren't
• 53:01
  the
• 53:01
  big,
• 53:02
  big
• 53:02
  two.
• 53:03
  But
• 53:03
  certainly,
• 53:04
  you
• 53:04
  know
• 53:05
  a
• 53:05
  lot
• 53:05
  of
• 53:05
  great
• 53:05
  stories
• 53:06
  out
• 53:06
  there.
• 53:06
  So
• 53:07
  this
• 53:07
  was.
• 53:07
  I
• 53:07
  thank
• 53:08
  you
• 53:08
  for
• 53:08
  joining
• 53:08
  me
• 53:08
  here.
• 53:09
  Yeah,
• 53:09
  absolutely.
• 53:09
  This
• 53:10
  is
• 53:10
  a
• 53:10
  fun
• 53:10
  conversation.
• 53:11
  It
• 53:11
  was
• 53:11
  fun
• 53:11
  to
• 53:11
  hear
• 53:12
  what
• 53:12
  you
• 53:12
  picked
• 53:12
  and
• 53:13
  I'm
• 53:13
  glad
• 53:13
  that
• 53:13
  we
• 53:14
  are
• 53:14
  united
• 53:14
  in
• 53:14
  our
• 53:15
  Turtles
• 53:15
  enthusiasm.
• 53:16
  Absolutely.
• 53:17
  Gotta
• 53:17
  love
• 53:17
  Turtle.
• 53:18
  Well,
• 53:18
  it
• 53:18
  was
• 53:18
  really
• 53:18
  funny
• 53:19
  too,
• 53:19
  because
• 53:19
  when
• 53:19
  I
• 53:19
  was
• 53:19
  making
• 53:19
  the
• 53:20
  list
• 53:20
  earlier,
• 53:20
  I
• 53:20
  was
• 53:20
  like,
• 53:21
  I
• 53:21
  was
• 53:21
  going
• 53:21
  through
• 53:21
  like
• 53:21
  Jeff
• 53:22
  Lemire
• 53:22
  titles
• 53:22
  and
• 53:22
  all
• 53:22
  that,
• 53:23
  and
• 53:23
  then
• 53:23
  it
• 53:23
  just,
• 53:23
  I
• 53:24
  was
• 53:24
  like,
• 53:24
  duh,
• 53:24
  like
• 53:25
  Ninja
• 53:25
  Turtles.
• 53:26
  I
• 53:26
  started
• 53:27
  as
• 53:27
  an
• 53:27
  indie
• 53:27
  comic,
• 53:27
  but
• 53:28
  yeah,
• 53:28
  so
• 53:28
  they're
• 53:29
  like
• 53:29
  great
• 53:29
  minds
• 53:30
  think
• 53:30
  alike
• 53:30
  here.
• 53:31
  But
• 53:31
  yeah,
• 53:32
  awesome.
• 53:33
  Well,
• 53:33
  for
• 53:33
  our
• 53:33
  listeners
• 53:34
  out
• 53:34
  there,
• 53:34
  thank
• 53:34
  you
• 53:34
  so
• 53:34
  much
• 53:34
  for
• 53:35
  joining
• 53:35
  again.
