- 0:23Speaker 2: Jen Michims, and US Correspondences with US Hello, Dan, Hi, Heather. Okay,
- 0:28Speaker 2: So fifty tariffs on Canada is.
- 0:30Speaker 3: But rough well it is, isn't it. And on top
- 0:33Speaker 3: of that, the President is now announcing a fresh round
- 0:36Speaker 3: of tariffs on countries. It could happen by the end
- 0:39Speaker 3: of this week, just as his temporary ten percent global
- 0:42Speaker 3: tariffs are scheduled to end, which is really strange. There
- 0:45Speaker 3: as a spokesperson for the White House earlier today telling
- 0:48Speaker 3: CNBC he couldn't be specific on a timeline. There's a
- 0:51Speaker 3: good chance, he said, it could happen in the next
- 0:53Speaker 3: few days, but Congress and other stakeholders have to be
- 0:55Speaker 3: brief before this happens. And of course you get this
- 0:58Speaker 3: on top of the trade actions, the twenty five percent
- 1:01Speaker 3: on imports from Brazil and as you mentioned, Canada as well.
- 1:04Speaker 3: So I mean, it's it's not looking good, especially if
- 1:08Speaker 3: you import to the United States or other countries.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So what is the point of the fifty percent on Canada.
- 1:14Speaker 2: What's what's the what does he try? What's the point
- 1:16Speaker 2: he's trying to get to.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Well, I think he's just trying to slap this back
- 1:22Speaker 3: because he said there has been trade discrimination against a
- 1:25Speaker 3: number of US industries. So he said, well, if you're
- 1:28Speaker 3: going to do that to us, we're going to do
- 1:29Speaker 3: that to you. And that will impact any kind of
- 1:32Speaker 3: wine and beer that comes over hockey sticks, which I
- 1:34Speaker 3: honestly don't think will be a big deal over here.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Maybe in parts of the northern or eastern part of
- 1:39Speaker 3: the United States, but you know, things like cement and
- 1:42Speaker 3: dog leashes and a lot of other products there are.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Canada's are our second biggest trading partner next to Mexico.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's canada reaction to it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: They're not saying much right now, but I would imagine,
- 1:53Speaker 3: again speculating here, that there may be a hike in
- 1:58Speaker 3: some tariffs going across to them as well, if this
- 2:01Speaker 3: is something that is going to be ongoing with the US.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Right what's going on with your passport ranking?
- 2:07Speaker 3: You know, we used to benumber one and we've slipped
- 2:10Speaker 3: we're down to number ten today to well, I guess
- 2:13Speaker 3: we're tied for tenth right now in the world. And
- 2:17Speaker 3: this means that we can travel visa free to one
- 2:19Speaker 3: hundred and eighty countries around the world according to the
- 2:22Speaker 3: Henley Passport Index, and that's on par with Iceland, but
- 2:26Speaker 3: we sit behind thirty six other countries that offer greater
- 2:29Speaker 3: visa free mobility. And the reason for our dropping rankings
- 2:34Speaker 3: is that our country, we just there's no give and take,
- 2:36Speaker 3: so we can access those hundred and eighty countries out
- 2:38Speaker 3: of two hundred and twenty seven, but the US only
- 2:41Speaker 3: allows forty six other nationalities to enter here visa free.
- 2:44Speaker 3: By the way, you guys, are are you know, in
- 2:47Speaker 3: the top ten this year as well, which is you know,
- 2:51Speaker 3: is great?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously, Yeah, well, I mean it does help that
- 2:54Speaker 2: we are, you know, not starting wars with anyone slepting
- 2:57Speaker 2: on terraffs just.
- 2:58Speaker 3: You know, well, yeah, that's that's one of the things.
- 3:01Speaker 3: If you're wondering who number one is, it's is Singapore
- 3:04Speaker 3: this year. So yeah, are you think to Singapore? Did
- 3:08Speaker 3: I have not? It's it's on my list a have you.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll love it. It's it's like it is so weird,
- 3:14Speaker 2: It is so weird and amazing. At the same time,
- 3:16Speaker 2: it's like a it's like stepping into the future with
- 3:19Speaker 2: their weird little like electronic trees and stuff like that,
- 3:23Speaker 2: but it's like slightly dystopian but also get kind of
- 3:27Speaker 2: nice and safe.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Anyway, so there's that. Thank you very much, Dan, You
- 3:32Speaker 2: go and have yourself a lovely day. Dan Mitchinson, US correspondent.
