- 0:15Speaker 1: Wow, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly phillyp
- 0:27Speaker 1: sports podcast show in the world. The Eagles beating the
- 0:31Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road down in Tampa Bay
- 0:34Speaker 1: at Raymond James Stadium by a score of thirty one
- 0:37Speaker 1: to twenty five. Wow, we're gonna get into this game.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Eagles are four and oh on the season. Jalen Hurts
- 0:45Speaker 1: eighteen and oh over the course of his last eighteen
- 0:49Speaker 1: games that he has started and finished in those games.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren and I'm here my good buddy Len
- 0:56Speaker 1: Hunseker len Man a tailor two halves for both the
- 1:00Speaker 1: Eagles defense and offense offense specifically. But we're gonna get
- 1:04Speaker 1: into our themes here, buddy. You know, do you want
- 1:06Speaker 1: to start us off? You know they guess one of
- 1:09Speaker 1: your biggest takeaways and themes from this.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Game, just the whole kind of tail two half's thing.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You mentioned the offense, the fact that they were so
- 1:19Speaker 2: heavily outgained I think three seventy six to the Bucks
- 1:22Speaker 2: for two hundred to the Eagles, and then it just
- 1:26Speaker 2: got to a point because they didn't show a thing
- 1:29Speaker 2: towards the end of the game of that the Buccaneers
- 1:31Speaker 2: all three other wins so far this year had come
- 1:35Speaker 2: in the last minute of the game. So you see
- 1:38Speaker 2: the momentum firmly on Tampa side and you see that
- 1:41Speaker 2: little graphic and you're like, shit, here we go.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So, because everything that the Eagles were doing, it felt
- 1:48Speaker 2: very much like, oh shit, here we go. Yeah. I
- 1:53Speaker 2: want to, I don't know, eventually talk about the play
- 1:56Speaker 2: calling at some point because I think it's a little predictable. Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I think that they use or they go to Saquon
- 2:05Speaker 2: way too much for a team that has two number
- 2:07Speaker 2: one receivers. Yeah. I think they're predictable. I do so. Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And not to say there weren't some some nice plays
- 2:15Speaker 2: because that the touchdown that Barkley had out of the
- 2:19Speaker 2: tush push formation, Yeah, the fake push was great. Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 2: I thought that was awesome. But it just feels like
- 2:26Speaker 2: they forget that they have wide receivers sometimes.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Absolutely, And look, I mean the wide receivers were targeted
- 2:32Speaker 1: in this game, especially aj Brown. He was targeted nine times,
- 2:36Speaker 1: only came down with two balls for seven yards.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Not a great game for him all.
- 2:40Speaker 1: No, not at all, But I'd like your theme to
- 2:42Speaker 1: start this out the fact that the the you know
- 2:46Speaker 1: old uh you know old, the old sturdy of this
- 2:49Speaker 1: Philadelphi Eagles team over the past year has been Saquon
- 2:51Speaker 1: Barkley and the fact that we know what Saquon did
- 2:54Speaker 1: last year. And I was one of those people, along
- 2:55Speaker 1: with our friend brand Leegauton from Bleeding Green Nation dot
- 2:57Speaker 1: com on our preview show, who said, you know what,
- 2:59Speaker 1: we think that Saquon Barkley can replicate what he did
- 3:03Speaker 1: last year. You know, we're some of the only folks
- 3:04Speaker 1: out there that actually thought that he could replicate what
- 3:07Speaker 1: he did last year. I remember you saying it's gonna
- 3:09Speaker 1: be really tough to do, and you know what it is,
- 3:10Speaker 1: it's really tough for him to do that because at
- 3:12Speaker 1: this point, everybody's key on it exactly. I mean, in
- 3:15Speaker 1: this game, he only had forty three yards on nineteen carries. Yes,
- 3:19Speaker 1: he had that touchdown off the fake push push, but
- 3:22Speaker 1: only two point three yards per carry. Len And coming
- 3:25Speaker 1: into this game he was only averaging three point three
- 3:27Speaker 1: yards per carry. This isn't the same Saquon Barkley, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: something needs to happen with the play calling on this offense.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Like you said, it's a great theme coming out of
- 3:35Speaker 1: this game.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Especially once you lose a guy like Lane Johnson. We
- 3:39Speaker 2: have to talk about that. I know, Stein got dinged
- 3:42Speaker 2: up for a play. I know he came back, but
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know, you know, and then just that style of
- 3:46Speaker 2: play in that weather. I know we're used to Okay,
- 3:50Speaker 2: we got the lead late, we're just gonna grind these
- 3:52Speaker 2: teams into a fine pace with Saquon in the offensive line.
- 3:55Speaker 2: But when the offensive line is dinged up and Saquon
- 3:58Speaker 2: has run the ball this much and it's hundred degrees
- 4:00Speaker 2: on the field, yeah, you know that's going to take
- 4:02Speaker 2: something out of your offense too, not just the defense.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know what, getting into the play calling too.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I didn't think we're actually going to get into this
- 4:09Speaker 1: right off the bat too. But the one thing that's
- 4:10Speaker 1: extremely frustrating, and it sounds like they lost the game
- 4:13Speaker 1: the way we're talking here, right yeah, yeah, but the
- 4:17Speaker 1: plays like the third down conversions that we just did
- 4:21Speaker 1: not see in the second half of the game. Yes,
- 4:23Speaker 1: they're trying to get the ball to aj Brown again,
- 4:25Speaker 1: he was targeted nine times in this game. Is in
- 4:28Speaker 1: a decent amount within the second half, but they're not
- 4:31Speaker 1: getting them over the middle of the field. It's outside
- 4:33Speaker 1: the numbers consistently. And if you're consistently being defended well
- 4:37Speaker 1: outside the numbers, I don't understand why the play calling
- 4:40Speaker 1: continues to go in that direction. And you got to
- 4:42Speaker 1: go over the field with some either either some slants,
- 4:46Speaker 1: some mesh concepts, or just some intermediate routes that's going
- 4:50Speaker 1: to end up netting you at least maybe anywhere from
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, eight to ten yards that'd
- 4:54Speaker 1: be nice.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, I mean, and it's I think that they
- 4:59Speaker 2: find that they they found themselves in this game, and
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know, maybe one or two others in a lot
- 5:04Speaker 2: of third and obvious passing situations because you know, Sakwan's
- 5:10Speaker 2: getting two yards on first down and two yards on
- 5:13Speaker 2: second down, suddenly it's third and six. Yeah, I think
- 5:16Speaker 2: that's the thing that's beginning to happen a little bit
- 5:19Speaker 2: more than I would like to see.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Absolutely. Look, mentioned some injuries. Want to mention those right
- 5:23Speaker 1: off the bat. Mentioned Tyler Steen. He went down with
- 5:25Speaker 1: a knee injury. He did come back with a sleeve
- 5:27Speaker 1: on it. I'm gonna have to monitor that for the
- 5:29Speaker 1: future Lane Johnson going out with a stinger in his shoulder.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Fred Johnson came in looked very serviceable just from the
- 5:36Speaker 1: naked eye what I saw. Jalen Carter, he also went
- 5:38Speaker 1: out with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter, but
- 5:41Speaker 1: he came back in. That's another injury that we're certainly
- 5:45Speaker 1: going to have to monitor as well. But yeah, let's
- 5:47Speaker 1: let's go back to the beginning of this game when
- 5:49Speaker 1: if you don't mind, okay, Eagles right off, great, yea.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Eagles really set in the tone to start the game.
- 5:54Speaker 1: First big play by the Eagles was a punt a
- 5:57Speaker 1: punt block excuse me, for a touchdown on the Buccaneer
- 6:00Speaker 1: first drive the game. Eagles defense stopped them on third down.
- 6:03Speaker 1: What an incredible block by Cam Latu, a great pickup
- 6:07Speaker 1: by Sidney Brown to return it thirty six yards for
- 6:10Speaker 1: that touchdown. And I'm thinking of myself, Man, they had
- 6:12Speaker 1: the field. They had two field goal blocks last week
- 6:15Speaker 1: to end the game, you know, one of those field
- 6:17Speaker 1: goal blocks for a touchdown, and then this play, And
- 6:20Speaker 1: I felt like, if there is a way to win
- 6:23Speaker 1: or get the advantage in a football game, the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 6:26Speaker 1: they've been getting it done, whether it's to start the game,
- 6:28Speaker 1: whether it's to end the game. Then you have Jihad
- 6:31Speaker 1: Campbell coming up with the interception in the fourth quarter too.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I don't necessarily want to say seal the game for
- 6:36Speaker 1: the Eagles, but it was a play had to get
- 6:39Speaker 1: absolutely and this team is just finding ways to win.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They are making plays when they absolutely need to do it,
- 6:46Speaker 1: even when they get themselves into certain situations. That was
- 6:49Speaker 1: a takeaway for me with this game, and we're consistently
- 6:52Speaker 1: seeing it game after game.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Win. Yeah. No, absolutely, And god Campbell's he's such a stud. Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 2: He just feels like he's always making a big play.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And he was part of something that happened in the
- 7:05Speaker 2: first half that I think went away in the second half.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Of the Eagles was as soon as the ball got
- 7:11Speaker 2: to the Buccaneers players in the first half, boom, somebody
- 7:14Speaker 2: was on them. Yeah, Like the Eagles were on their
- 7:17Speaker 2: on their offensive players immediately at the point of contact,
- 7:21Speaker 2: as soon as the ball got to them, and that,
- 7:23Speaker 2: buying large feels felt like it went away. The tackling
- 7:27Speaker 2: went away a little bit in the second half. And again,
- 7:29Speaker 2: I don't know, if you know the weather, you know
- 7:32Speaker 2: plays a part of that a little bit. You know,
- 7:35Speaker 2: maybe the guys in Tampa are used to I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 2: to me, I think so many of these football players
- 7:39Speaker 2: nowadays are from Texas or Californiania or Florida and places
- 7:43Speaker 2: where they should be used to it. But what do
- 7:45Speaker 2: I know?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Right still, you look a lot of these guys, you
- 7:50Speaker 1: know that I don't want to say that they're babied necessarily,
- 7:53Speaker 1: but you know, they're catered to a lot in the
- 7:55Speaker 1: league with you, in different cities, in different atmospheres and environments.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But I I think that's a very good point you make.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I think the Eagles did try to just real quick,
- 8:05Speaker 2: I mean they did try to alleviate that a little bit.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I know, they got down there a day earlier. They
- 8:09Speaker 2: talked about the precautions they were taking with the shading
- 8:12Speaker 2: on the sideline, IVS, extra IVS and hydration and all
- 8:15Speaker 2: that stuff. But yeah, it is what it is once
- 8:18Speaker 2: you actually get into the game.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get into another theme, and that theme is
- 8:22Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts here I mentioned right to start this postgame
- 8:26Speaker 1: podcast show eighteen of zero. Over his past eighteen games
- 8:29Speaker 1: when he has started and ended a game and boy,
- 8:32Speaker 1: was Jalen Hurts in complete control of the offense at
- 8:35Speaker 1: the start of this game, absolutely locked in. Eagles were cooking.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts was blitzed on fifty five percent of his
- 8:42Speaker 1: dropbacks in the first half per next Gen Stats. He
- 8:45Speaker 1: was eight of nine of fifty six yards and two
- 8:48Speaker 1: touchdowns on those plays, and it really seemed as though
- 8:51Speaker 1: Hertz was really getting to the point where he's just
- 8:54Speaker 1: not getting rattled by being blitzed. I mean, we're consistently
- 8:57Speaker 1: seeing this week after week, teams and other defenses posing
- 9:00Speaker 1: defenses or blitzing him consistently, but he's been able to
- 9:03Speaker 1: handle it. He's been able to deal with this. A
- 9:06Speaker 1: very strong first half against the Bucks defense that was
- 9:09Speaker 1: very good and strung. Jalen Hurts was fifteen of sixteen
- 9:12Speaker 1: for one hundred and thirty yards. He averaged eight point
- 9:14Speaker 1: one yards per completion, two touchdowns with one hundred and
- 9:19Speaker 1: forty point one passer rating. He also had four carries,
- 9:22Speaker 1: by the way, for forty two rushing hot yards. Now
- 9:24Speaker 1: the second half, ooo, holy crap man.
- 9:28Speaker 2: First different, Yeah, and if you look at that final line,
- 9:31Speaker 2: it's hard to believe he had even one good half
- 9:33Speaker 2: of football, Yes, yes, but you know, yeah, it's I mean,
- 9:39Speaker 2: it looked like, you know, one team made adjustments in
- 9:42Speaker 2: the at halftime and the other one we're just like, okay,
- 9:45Speaker 2: we got it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: They were happy to sit on it. Yeah, they were
- 9:47Speaker 1: happy to sit on the lead because in the second half,
- 9:50Speaker 1: the first two possessions of the game, the Eagles had
- 9:52Speaker 1: negative two yards and Jalen Hurts getting back to the
- 9:55Speaker 1: tail of two halves, he was zero for seven in
- 9:58Speaker 1: the third quarter and then into the fourth quarter with
- 10:01Speaker 1: about twelve minutes left. That's horrendous. Oh for seven? How
- 10:05Speaker 1: is this happening here? So, I mean it was really weird.
- 10:09Speaker 1: The Eagles offense essentially the exact opposite of last week's
- 10:12Speaker 1: game against the Rams. I mean, the first drives in
- 10:15Speaker 1: the second half only netted them eleven yards on twenty plays.
- 10:20Speaker 1: They did have a touchdown which was the fake touch bush,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but still it's the exact opposite of last week against
- 10:25Speaker 1: the Rams, and it goes to show that the offense
- 10:28Speaker 1: can do it, but they have to remain consistent. Consistency
- 10:33Speaker 1: was difficult here in this game for the Eagles on offense.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely, it definitely. I mean, you just I
- 10:41Speaker 2: don't know. It's just like, how is this the same team? Yeah?
- 10:45Speaker 2: You know that was just out there like twenty minutes
- 10:47Speaker 2: ago on the field. Yeah. With the way they're playing. Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 2: And I just think, you know, yeah, things are working,
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know, going in the first half, but you know
- 10:56Speaker 2: you still have to throw some wrinkles out there for
- 10:59Speaker 2: this second half. You have to you know, they're gonna adjust. Yes,
- 11:03Speaker 2: so have your counters ready? And it felt like that
- 11:06Speaker 2: they that the coaching wise, they had no counters ready
- 11:10Speaker 2: for whatever Tampa Bay was going to switch up with
- 11:13Speaker 2: in the second half, offensively or defensive.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Good point, very good point. Do you do you
- 11:17Speaker 1: have any other themes there? I gotta I got a
- 11:18Speaker 1: couple more themes that I wanted to get into, but
- 11:21Speaker 1: I don't want to monopoly to watch you. Sure, Okay, look,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you're good.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Look.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think a lot of positives. I'm gonna shift over
- 11:26Speaker 1: to the defense too, and then I'm gonna go back
- 11:28Speaker 1: over the offense. I think a lot of positives in
- 11:30Speaker 1: this game for the Eagles. But the one area Lend
- 11:32Speaker 1: that is becoming I think the just the biggest concern
- 11:36Speaker 1: on this team after four weeks is the total and
- 11:39Speaker 1: complete lack of a pass rush. The pass rush is
- 11:43Speaker 1: absolutely horrendous. It's awful. Nobody's able to get into the
- 11:48Speaker 1: backfield and really pressure the quarter the quarterback at all.
- 11:51Speaker 1: We're seeing it week after week. Ironically, Moro Ojomo he
- 11:54Speaker 1: had he had a sack on Mayfield in the fourth
- 11:56Speaker 1: quarter that really helped this team a lot. There are
- 11:59Speaker 1: only two in this game, only one quarterback hit. That's it.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's it. This Eagles pass rush is pitiful here at
- 12:07Speaker 1: this point. And it's how he's going to need to
- 12:10Speaker 1: make a move, I think, because I don't know how
- 12:14Speaker 1: long they're going to be able to sustain the quote
- 12:16Speaker 1: success that they've been having up front. They need to
- 12:19Speaker 1: be able to pressure a quarterback in this in this
- 12:22Speaker 1: league in order to be successful. I don't know. It's
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's a glaring, glaring situation.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Look at the Super Bowl, that's what essentially, I mean,
- 12:31Speaker 2: they basically knocked the Chiefs out in the first half
- 12:33Speaker 2: of that game with a pass rush insteady and you
- 12:37Speaker 2: have to have that. And it's funny, you know, you
- 12:39Speaker 2: look at like, Okay, where are the holes in this team?
- 12:41Speaker 2: What do they need? Hmm. Down the road, they're going
- 12:44Speaker 2: to need to replace Dallas Goddard. So you need to
- 12:47Speaker 2: you need to look at who's your tight end in
- 12:49Speaker 2: the future come into the season. Oh man, we need
- 12:51Speaker 2: a quarterback too, or corner on the on the other
- 12:55Speaker 2: side of Mitchell. You know, we got to have another
- 12:57Speaker 2: outside corner. We clearly don't have that now. Okay, Well,
- 13:02Speaker 2: with the first round pick, do we go with an
- 13:04Speaker 2: edge rusher because we need one. Yeah. I thought it
- 13:07Speaker 2: was funny when they did the graphics for the game
- 13:08Speaker 2: in the beginning and they're doing the starting lineups. They
- 13:11Speaker 2: basically had the Eagles in like a three to four
- 13:14Speaker 2: and their entire defensive line was defensive tax defensive tackles.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It was a Jomo and and Carter and shooting Jordan
- 13:22Speaker 2: Davis at Jordan Davis. Yeah, and it was like that's
- 13:25Speaker 2: how they're lining up. Yeah, that just goes to show
- 13:27Speaker 2: Nolan Smith being out for a while. That's gonna hurt yea.
- 13:30Speaker 2: But they they have to find an answer somewhere because
- 13:35Speaker 2: that is absolutely going to bite them in the ass
- 13:38Speaker 2: at some point in the next couple of weeks.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Nolan Smith probably not back to week ten something
- 13:43Speaker 1: like that. I think, you know, after the bye week.
- 13:45Speaker 1: So look, I mean when it comes to the defense too,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I do. I do want to mention some good stuff too.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Quinon Mitchell just all over Amika uh in Buka. The
- 13:55Speaker 1: first three targets in Buka only caught one ball for
- 13:59Speaker 1: one yard. You know, I gotta mention that Cooper Dejen
- 14:03Speaker 1: just had a tremendous game. We're talking past breakups by
- 14:06Speaker 1: these guys. They were playing physical, they were playing really
- 14:09Speaker 1: close to these defenders, really not letting him get too
- 14:12Speaker 1: too many steps on them. Yes, we did see two
- 14:16Speaker 1: to Gihad Campbell. He completely whiffed on that Bucky Irving touchdown.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And I know that there was the other seventy the
- 14:25Speaker 1: other seventy yard Buka.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I can't remember who was on him though.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Well that dude, okay, So I actually that was enraging
- 14:34Speaker 1: in the third quarter. That touchdown some of the worst
- 14:37Speaker 1: defense I think we've actually seen from the Philadelphia Eagles
- 14:39Speaker 1: in quite some time. Andrew mcco well, Macoba looked horrendously
- 14:45Speaker 1: lost on that play, like he could have stopped the touchdown,
- 14:48Speaker 1: but he was utterly cololess about what was happening around him.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure if he thought if Reid blank and
- 14:52Speaker 1: Ship tipped it or something or actually made a play.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Just overall horrendous defense. But he did. He did, He
- 15:00Speaker 1: absolutely did. Yes, he did. But from a defensive perspective,
- 15:05Speaker 1: it kind of was a mixed bag at times. You know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: they gave up some big plays, but they also made
- 15:09Speaker 1: some big plays too. Again, Quinnon, Mitchell, Cooper Dejen definitely
- 15:14Speaker 1: definitely some of the MVPs I think of this defense.
- 15:17Speaker 1: But really quick getting back to the offense before we
- 15:19Speaker 1: go to break here, buddy, I really wanted to highlight
- 15:22Speaker 1: the fact that one, there was no tush push in
- 15:25Speaker 1: this game. We did not see it once. It was nice.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It was a fake tush push, right, Yeah, but Dallas
- 15:30Speaker 1: Goddard's first touchdown of the game and also his second
- 15:35Speaker 1: touchdown of the game, that two yard flip pass to
- 15:38Speaker 1: Godard his first of the game. I think most of
- 15:41Speaker 1: us thought that we were going to see the tush
- 15:43Speaker 1: push at that point, but they had this four wide
- 15:46Speaker 1: receiver bunch set to the right of the formation. I'm like,
- 15:49Speaker 1: what the hell is this. I have never seen this
- 15:51Speaker 1: before and it was just a flip pass to got
- 15:54Speaker 1: it for a touchdown, just a It was a cool
- 15:56Speaker 1: looking new play. Yes, absolutely and then Dallas Goddard with
- 16:00Speaker 1: a second touchdown. The last time he had two receiving
- 16:04Speaker 1: touchdowns in a game was back on December fifth, twenty
- 16:06Speaker 1: twenty one, when he had two against the New York Jets.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Gardner Minshew was actually the quarterback in that game. But
- 16:12Speaker 1: I like the fact that we had those little flip passes.
- 16:15Speaker 1: We were talking about how the offense needs a little
- 16:17Speaker 1: bit of creativity and a little something new in here.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm really glad we saw that they still need some
- 16:22Speaker 1: new stuff for sure. I mean, yeah, absolutely, but I
- 16:26Speaker 1: just wanted to mention that I thought that was actually
- 16:28Speaker 1: good and positive to see in this game. And again,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I feel like we're talking like this team lost this game, but.
- 16:34Speaker 2: It's a good way to get Goddard involved, where like
- 16:37Speaker 2: it feels like sometimes you know, maybe it's a little
- 16:40Speaker 2: tough to get him involved in that, and that's a
- 16:42Speaker 2: that's a good little thing down at the goal line. Yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 2: you can do to get him kind of maybe going
- 16:46Speaker 2: in the offense a little bit. So yeah, yeah, I again, yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 2: this uh game, probably because of the way it unfolded,
- 16:54Speaker 2: is going to sound like a lot more complaining than
- 16:56Speaker 2: it should. But yeah, no, there's I mean, there's a
- 16:59Speaker 2: little shitimate concerns, and I mean I'm happy that they're
- 17:02Speaker 2: banking wins, you know, because there is going to come
- 17:05Speaker 2: a stretch in this year, especially if injuries, you know,
- 17:08Speaker 2: pile up and if you know, the play calling con
- 17:11Speaker 2: doesn't get ironed out a little bit where you know
- 17:14Speaker 2: they're going to drop a game or two here, and
- 17:15Speaker 2: it's just get them while you can get them, get
- 17:18Speaker 2: these wins while you can get them. You know, you
- 17:19Speaker 2: have the Broncos come up, that should be an interesting game.
- 17:22Speaker 2: You also have in your next four you have two
- 17:24Speaker 2: against the Giants, who I don't know if you saw,
- 17:26Speaker 2: but I think Molik Neighbors got hurt.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's an ACL injury problem.
- 17:31Speaker 2: That is that is a gigantic loss for that team, unfortunately.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Congratulations to the Giants and the Jets for having some
- 17:39Speaker 1: of the worst turf in the NFL and one of
- 17:41Speaker 1: the richest cities in the world. Congratulations guys. What a
- 17:44Speaker 1: bunch of idiots.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But you know, I you know, I'm not a Giants
- 17:48Speaker 2: fan by any stretch, but you know, you want to
- 17:49Speaker 2: see elite players play, and that's what I think Molik
- 17:53Speaker 2: neighbors is and so that's going to hurt them man
- 17:56Speaker 2: big time, absolutely.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Really quick before we go to break. And if you
- 18:00Speaker 1: if you have any other themes that you wanted to
- 18:02Speaker 1: get into lend. I mean, at this point, Aj Brown
- 18:04Speaker 1: he's got one hundred and fifty one yards on the
- 18:06Speaker 1: season after four weeks. It just stinks. And then you see,
- 18:10Speaker 1: you know, you have a talent like Davante Smith who
- 18:13Speaker 1: only had coming into this game had one hundred and
- 18:16Speaker 1: twenty nine yards, and then you can add on his
- 18:18Speaker 1: twenty nine yards to that. We have elite wide receivers
- 18:21Speaker 1: on this team, and they the quarterback has not been
- 18:24Speaker 1: able to get them the ball. Whether it is play
- 18:26Speaker 1: calling or what the hell is going on? I don't know.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It's kind of funny because if you look at I
- 18:30Speaker 2: mean just based on what we think we've seen in
- 18:33Speaker 2: these four games as far as stat lines go, if
- 18:37Speaker 2: you go on Football Reference dot Com right now and
- 18:39Speaker 2: look at the Eagles season thus far and you look
- 18:42Speaker 2: at Hurts and Barkley and Smith and AJ Brown, you
- 18:45Speaker 2: look at their stats so far this season, you got
- 18:48Speaker 2: to be like, how the hell is this team? Four
- 18:50Speaker 2: and O Like they're big guns, right, aren't really racking
- 18:54Speaker 2: up numbers, right, So yeah, I mean, it's a strange thing.
- 18:59Speaker 2: They're just in weird ways.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I guess, I guess. I guess it goes back to
- 19:03Speaker 1: that point that I made earlier too, where you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: whether it was like the blocked field goals or whether
- 19:08Speaker 1: it's Jihad Campbell's interception, if there's a way to win
- 19:12Speaker 1: or to get the advantage within the game itself. The
- 19:15Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, they're getting it done.
- 19:19Speaker 2: In the games, which is funny. I hate to use
- 19:23Speaker 2: this term right away with the Eagles because I don't
- 19:25Speaker 2: feel like they've won enough to warrant it. But you
- 19:30Speaker 2: see it with dynasties, and it's it's called I was
- 19:33Speaker 2: thinking about it because I think of a team that
- 19:35Speaker 2: we watched last night that doesn't have it. In Penn
- 19:37Speaker 2: State with James Franklin. There's a thing called championship DNA,
- 19:42Speaker 2: and there's a thing also called, you know, the opposite whatever.
- 19:45Speaker 2: The opposite of that is what Penn State has in
- 19:47Speaker 2: big games against un racked teams. But this is the
- 19:51Speaker 2: exact kind of game I'm talking about, a championship DNA
- 19:54Speaker 2: where in the second half, let's be honest, I mean,
- 19:57Speaker 2: the Eagles at times looked like they had no business
- 20:00Speaker 2: winning this game.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yep.
- 20:01Speaker 2: But you just find a way to win a game
- 20:04Speaker 2: that maybe you shouldn't have and you get away with
- 20:07Speaker 2: some and that's what the really good to great teams do,
- 20:10Speaker 2: and that's what the Eagles did here.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Great way and this first segment unless you have any
- 20:15Speaker 1: other themes you want to get into, buddy, before we
- 20:17Speaker 1: get to break and before we do some grading. No, no,
- 20:21Speaker 1: you're good, You're good. All right, Well, let's get to break.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Folks here. If you're new to watching us on the YouTube,
- 20:27Speaker 1: like and subscribe to us. Really like that video, Share
- 20:31Speaker 1: it with your friends, family, folks who are Eagles fans.
- 20:33Speaker 1: We greatly appreciate it. We are on various social media
- 20:36Speaker 1: sites as well. Search out the Philadelphia Sports Table. You
- 20:39Speaker 1: can also search out myself, Eric lend Bless his soul
- 20:42Speaker 1: has been off social media as mental health has been
- 20:44Speaker 1: a lot better. But we are gonna take a break
- 20:49Speaker 1: now to pay some bills. We will be back in
- 20:51Speaker 1: just a bit. All right, We are back, and we
- 20:55Speaker 1: are gonna be grading what we saw by unit with
- 20:59Speaker 1: this philadelph f Eagles teams as they again beat the
- 21:03Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers down in Tampa Bay by score thirty
- 21:05Speaker 1: one to twenty five. The quarterback position, Jalen Hurts fifteen
- 21:08Speaker 1: of twenty four one hundred and thirty yards five point
- 21:11Speaker 1: four yards per attempt to touchdowns. He ended with a
- 21:14Speaker 1: rating of one hundred and four point five. He was
- 21:17Speaker 1: sack two times. Len, I'm gonna give Jalen Hurts this
- 21:19Speaker 1: week a B minus. What do you give him? I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 1: he did what he had to do early?
- 21:26Speaker 2: I mean, he was good early, rather, I guess I
- 21:29Speaker 2: should say, and then the second half. I mean I
- 21:32Speaker 2: almost wish you could go through this all these units
- 21:35Speaker 2: and grade them, give them two grades, one for the
- 21:37Speaker 2: first half and one for the second. Yeah, can't do that, unfortunately.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I'll go B minus. And I feel like that's a
- 21:45Speaker 2: very generous grade.
- 21:46Speaker 1: It's probably it's probably generous. It could be plus C
- 21:49Speaker 1: C plus, it could be, but I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 21:51Speaker 1: go be minus as well, all right. The rushing attack
- 21:55Speaker 1: what could be considered a rushing attack with sa Quon
- 21:59Speaker 1: Barkley putting forty three yards on nineteen carries, aj Dillon
- 22:02Speaker 1: putting up seventeen yards on three carries, Barkley with one
- 22:07Speaker 1: touchdown for whatever reason, Like we talked about before the break,
- 22:11Speaker 1: the running game has not been able to get going
- 22:13Speaker 1: at all after four weeks and Saquon Barkley only managing
- 22:17Speaker 1: about three and a half yards not even three and
- 22:19Speaker 1: a half yards per attempt this season. I'm gonna give
- 22:23Speaker 1: the rushing a C minus. Actually, Lynn, what do you
- 22:25Speaker 1: give them even with that touchdown?
- 22:27Speaker 2: Before I do that? And I hate to like kind
- 22:30Speaker 2: of veer off a little bit, but like, I know,
- 22:32Speaker 2: you have this amazing weapon in Saquon Barkley, but he
- 22:35Speaker 2: is a guy that I feel like they're kind of
- 22:38Speaker 2: like last year a ton of carries, Like they have
- 22:42Speaker 2: Dylan and they have Shipley. Do you feel like they
- 22:45Speaker 2: could use them more? Yes, you know, just give Barkley
- 22:49Speaker 2: this series off and just because you know, I feel
- 22:52Speaker 2: like Dylan gives you the power back and Shipley can
- 22:56Speaker 2: give you kind of a shifty guy, yes, like and
- 22:59Speaker 2: just a change yup, a change of pace and just
- 23:01Speaker 2: give to just take a few miles off of Barkley's
- 23:04Speaker 2: O doometer. Yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Look, aj Dillon is He's only carried the ball six
- 23:07Speaker 1: times this year, but he's averaging four point eight yards
- 23:10Speaker 1: per carry. There's something to be said for that.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Let's let's use that a little bit. Yea, So all right,
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm going on a tangent here. That's you know, Barkley
- 23:19Speaker 2: had the game. He had, like you mentioned, forty three
- 23:21Speaker 2: yards two point three yards of carry hurts. I think
- 23:25Speaker 2: that a very you know, just a running back position
- 23:28Speaker 2: moving around. Yeah, oh okay, I'm looking at the rushing
- 23:31Speaker 2: in jail. Yeah okay, running back position then yeah see.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, all right, I did see minus c for you.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I think it's very fair. All right, Let's move over
- 23:40Speaker 1: to the receivers. Man. It's it's it's tough when you're
- 23:43Speaker 1: only putting up one hundred and thirty yards total receiving
- 23:46Speaker 1: when you've got talent like Devonte Smith, AJ Brown and
- 23:51Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard. Yes, Goddar did have two touchdowns, but again
- 23:54Speaker 1: only eight point seven yards per reception. For this receiving corps,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you got John Metch as well, who was targeted twice.
- 24:01Speaker 1: He came down with ten or he had ten yards
- 24:05Speaker 1: as well. I just like, it's just so frustrating. The
- 24:09Speaker 1: passing game is frustrating this season in so many ways.
- 24:11Speaker 1: So I'm actually gonna give the receivers this week a
- 24:13Speaker 1: sea and it might not be their fault completely, but
- 24:15Speaker 1: they're gonna get to see what do you give them.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, this definitely is gonna be a game that aj
- 24:20Speaker 2: Brown puts in the you know, the career highlight reel
- 24:23Speaker 2: for sure. Yeah. Overall, I mean you want to if
- 24:27Speaker 2: you want to take Dallas Goddard out of the mix.
- 24:29Speaker 2: There it was the very definition of pedestrian and this
- 24:34Speaker 2: is what has to get better. And if you want
- 24:37Speaker 2: to get Saquon going, this has to get better because
- 24:40Speaker 2: otherwise there's no reason for for defenses to worry about it.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I mean, they're going to continue to sell out on
- 24:47Speaker 2: Saquon until this gets better. I'll go. I will go
- 24:55Speaker 2: C minus and Dallas Goddard brings that great up a lot.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. And look, I'm gonna get
- 25:02Speaker 1: into him when we're doing the offensive grading or the
- 25:04Speaker 1: offensive coaching grading. But Kevin Patulo, I do not believe
- 25:08Speaker 1: is necessarily helping things with regard to how.
- 25:11Speaker 2: This is where they're not all in sync yet. Ye,
- 25:15Speaker 2: I mean you can tell and maybe maybe by the
- 25:18Speaker 2: end of the year we'll kind of be like last
- 25:20Speaker 2: year when like oh remember after Game four when we
- 25:22Speaker 2: were all worried and then lol, we went on a
- 25:25Speaker 2: run and everything was fine. Hopefully that happens, but you know,
- 25:29Speaker 2: it's a it's a first year offensive coordinator. There's no
- 25:31Speaker 2: guarantee that's gonna happen.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Right offensive line, I'm gonna give them a B. Could
- 25:36Speaker 1: be a B minus. You know, Hurts getting sacked two times. There's,
- 25:40Speaker 1: of course, there's some injury stuff going on with Lane Johnson.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Tyler Steen went out, came back in, but not the
- 25:47Speaker 1: strongest in terms of the rushing attack either. I mean,
- 25:50Speaker 1: they got to open up some holes for Barkley and
- 25:52Speaker 1: they really haven't been able to do that successfully over
- 25:56Speaker 1: the past four weeks. So I mean, I'm gonna go
- 25:58Speaker 1: B minus with the With the offensive line, what do
- 26:01Speaker 1: you give them this week?
- 26:02Speaker 2: I thought they gave Hurts, you know, a couple nice
- 26:05Speaker 2: pockets to work with, especially in the first half. But yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: things kind of deteriorated, and really I'm a lot more
- 26:11Speaker 2: concerned about the health than I am the grade at
- 26:14Speaker 2: this point in the way they played, just because man,
- 26:17Speaker 2: Lane Johnson is not a guy that they can afford
- 26:19Speaker 2: to lose for any stretch of time. Yeah, So in
- 26:22Speaker 2: this one, I'll go C plus.
- 26:23Speaker 1: All right, sounds good. Let's move over to the defense.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Defensive line. The pass rush just is not getting there.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Moro Ojomo with one sack and I'm trying to see
- 26:34Speaker 1: who the other sack may have been. One, Zach Bond.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's right, Zach Bond. So that being said, I just
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna give I'm gonna give him a C. I'm
- 26:44Speaker 1: really disappointed with the pass rush. That just what the
- 26:46Speaker 1: line has been able to do. Now, have they been
- 26:48Speaker 1: able to clog up the inside in general? Yes, Bucky
- 26:52Speaker 1: Irving did have sixty three yards on fifteen carries four
- 26:56Speaker 1: point two yards per per rush today. But look, I
- 27:04Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm just I'm just getting a little
- 27:06Speaker 1: tired of watching this defensive line. And look, the talent
- 27:09Speaker 1: is the talent. So I'm gonna give them a See
- 27:10Speaker 1: what do you give them?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, the the numbers are pretty gross. You know, one
- 27:17Speaker 2: sack from the defensive line, not a lot of quarterback
- 27:20Speaker 2: hits at all. You know, one for a Jomo and
- 27:24Speaker 2: that's it for for the whole team. So there you go.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Uh D plus not a strong effort at all.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna be given the linebackers even that, like Zach
- 27:35Speaker 1: Bond certainly getting getting the job done in this game
- 27:38Speaker 1: with eight total tackles, one sack, one tackle for a
- 27:41Speaker 1: loss which was the sack. But in terms of the
- 27:45Speaker 1: like Jihad Campbell having a nice, nice day with the
- 27:48Speaker 1: interception of course, one pass defended and four total tackles,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna give them a I'm gonna give them probably
- 27:57Speaker 1: a B plus this week. There were some miss tackles
- 28:00Speaker 1: here and there. Zach Bond, though, I mean he definitely
- 28:03Speaker 1: is a stud. We know what type of player he is.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Giodd Campbell made some really nice plays in this game,
- 28:07Speaker 1: but also gave up a huge, huge, seventy two yard
- 28:13Speaker 1: touchdown to.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Bucky Yeah, and that's gonna drag the graade down.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I'm gonna give I'm gonna give him
- 28:18Speaker 1: a I'm gonna give him a B minus this week.
- 28:21Speaker 1: What do you give the linebacker corps.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I think that's fair. I mean, yeah, the Campbell play
- 28:28Speaker 2: that was bad, giving up that long touchdown, but he
- 28:30Speaker 2: did have an interception at the end. He had one
- 28:33Speaker 2: play in the first half where I mean he ran
- 28:35Speaker 2: right through Bucky Irving and I thought I thought he
- 28:38Speaker 2: had irving out of the game. Yep, with that hit.
- 28:41Speaker 2: It's just the one thing I will say, like, we've
- 28:44Speaker 2: been negative a lot today, and I say, I remember
- 28:47Speaker 2: the days when I used to pine for one good linebacker, Yes,
- 28:50Speaker 2: and now we have two. So it's it's pretty awesome
- 28:53Speaker 2: to have that. That said, I think B minus is
- 28:57Speaker 2: a fair grade.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Okay, all right, sounds good. All right, let's go to
- 29:02Speaker 1: the secondary. Secondary was kind of like up and down
- 29:05Speaker 1: I thought throughout, but I really do again at the
- 29:08Speaker 1: end of the day, I'll say this to kiey Ringo
- 29:10Speaker 1: stinks by the way, he has a big time my
- 29:13Speaker 1: ability when it comes to tackling. My gosh, the other
- 29:16Speaker 1: d backs not not good, not good outside of Quinnon Mitchell,
- 29:21Speaker 1: Holy freaking crap. So I I I got to give
- 29:24Speaker 1: the secondary and especially uh Macouba giving up that that
- 29:28Speaker 1: touchdown to uh oh my gosh, I am I forgetting
- 29:32Speaker 1: his name?
- 29:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Amica Amica. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm gonna I'm gonna give the secondary this
- 29:41Speaker 1: week of B minus as well. What do you give him?
- 29:44Speaker 2: I mean, I thought Mitchell had a really good game
- 29:46Speaker 2: as usual. The Gene had a couple of nice plays
- 29:50Speaker 2: as well. But yeah, ringo, he it's it's rough. I
- 29:55Speaker 2: will say that I think on Campbell's interception that was
- 29:59Speaker 2: deflected by Reid blank and ship. Yes, you know, so
- 30:03Speaker 2: I want to get yeah, yeah, And I want to
- 30:05Speaker 2: give him a little bit of credit there. Yeah macouba
- 30:08Speaker 2: that that's that's a bad misread there on that. So yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 2: that's that's all got a factor in. I'm gonna give
- 30:15Speaker 2: him a C in this game.
- 30:16Speaker 1: See Okay, all right, sounds good. Let's get to the
- 30:19Speaker 1: coaching and offensive defense of special teams unit special teams,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I mean, I got, I gotta get. I mean, except
- 30:26Speaker 1: for the at the end of the game, dear freaking lord,
- 30:28Speaker 1: the safety with Braden Mann, My gosh, what the hell
- 30:32Speaker 1: I mean here?
- 30:33Speaker 2: I mean, if if it runs those last six seconds
- 30:36Speaker 2: off the clock, because if you punt it and they
- 30:38Speaker 2: run it back then then you're then this is a
- 30:42Speaker 2: whole different tune.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I know.
- 30:43Speaker 2: So whatever you got to do to get those six
- 30:45Speaker 2: seconds off the clock, I mean, unless this affected your gambling,
- 30:50Speaker 2: I don't necessarily have a gripe with it.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Okay, sounds good that I'm gonna give special teams this
- 30:55Speaker 1: week in a simply for them really getting the tone
- 30:58Speaker 1: going to start the game with that punt block for
- 31:00Speaker 1: the touchdown. So I'm gonna give him an A. What
- 31:02Speaker 1: do you give him?
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I will give them an A minus. I
- 31:06Speaker 2: thought that was I thought that was obviously a huge play.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I thought Braden Man outside of his his running exploits,
- 31:15Speaker 2: I thought he had a really nice day punting. You know, Elliott,
- 31:19Speaker 2: you know, made all the kicks he needed to make,
- 31:21Speaker 2: uh nothing, you know, crazy. I think Shipley had one
- 31:25Speaker 2: nice return at one point. Actually, him and Bigsby each
- 31:27Speaker 2: had a nice return.
- 31:28Speaker 1: He did thirty nine yards for will Shipley.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think special teams is by far the best
- 31:33Speaker 2: part of their of their game today. So yeah, I'll
- 31:38Speaker 2: go a minus there.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Very good, all right? Vic Fangio and his defense boy
- 31:42Speaker 1: up and down again? Kind of a tail of two
- 31:44Speaker 1: halves and and or, I should say tailed maybe just
- 31:47Speaker 1: two situations that this defense gets themselves into every now
- 31:51Speaker 1: and again. I mean, I'm gonna give Vic Fangio this
- 31:54Speaker 1: week h B minus. What do you give Vic Fangio
- 31:57Speaker 1: for his defensive coaching? Yeah?
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it definitely. Uh, I don't know if
- 32:04Speaker 2: that thing with macouba is is if that's him, if
- 32:07Speaker 2: that's the coaching scheme that happened, Yeah, they they It
- 32:11Speaker 2: just looked like a team that ran out of gas, ye,
- 32:14Speaker 2: you know, and fortunately they build up enough in the
- 32:16Speaker 2: beginning to hang on. It wasn't the greatest game, I'll say,
- 32:21Speaker 2: be minus okay defensively.
- 32:23Speaker 1: All right, Kevin Petulo Nick Sirianni the offensive coaching this week. Again,
- 32:29Speaker 1: Like I mentioned before, Kevin Petulo, I think is having
- 32:33Speaker 1: a rough start to his tenure as the offensive coordinator
- 32:35Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Eagles, and we need to see more creativity.
- 32:38Speaker 1: We saw some of this game, like I mentioned the
- 32:40Speaker 1: flip passes that Dallas Goddard was great.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah, those those are great. That the fake bushbush. I mean,
- 32:45Speaker 2: there were great individual moments. But you mentioned the word
- 32:48Speaker 2: consistent consistency earlier in the show, and yeah, I think
- 32:52Speaker 2: we need to see a lot more of that. If
- 32:54Speaker 2: we're gonna you know, god, I'm about to say something
- 32:57Speaker 2: stupid like, oh they're going to be Yes, they're going
- 32:59Speaker 2: to be a contender either way. But you know, if
- 33:02Speaker 2: we're gonna really feel good and like, all right, we
- 33:06Speaker 2: are hands down the favorite in this conference, Like we
- 33:09Speaker 2: need to see more consists. I guess that's what I'm
- 33:11Speaker 2: what I'm looking.
- 33:12Speaker 1: For, right If they have that championship DNA that you
- 33:15Speaker 1: were talking about, you know, like that's not to see it.
- 33:18Speaker 2: That consistency has to get better. And you know, again,
- 33:21Speaker 2: we were here after game four last season, so I'm
- 33:25Speaker 2: hoping this is just a team that, you know, maybe
- 33:28Speaker 2: every year they just got to work out the kinks
- 33:31Speaker 2: throughout the course of the season and then they get rolling.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, Well, I mean the grade that I'm
- 33:36Speaker 1: gonna give the offense here, it's gonna be a B minus.
- 33:39Speaker 1: What do you give them? I mean, it could be
- 33:42Speaker 1: a C plus to be honest, I'm gonna go C
- 33:45Speaker 1: plus because you know, you rattled off some of the
- 33:47Speaker 1: team stats to start us off.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I mean, we're we're not great.
- 33:51Speaker 1: They're not two hundred total yards of offense. That that's
- 33:55Speaker 1: not good. It is not good now, So yeah, C
- 33:58Speaker 1: plus could be even generous. I thank you here all right, folks.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Eagles postgame analysis here at the PST podcast show. Again.
- 34:06Speaker 1: The Eagles beating Tampa Bay Buccaneers here in Week four
- 34:09Speaker 1: by score thirty one to twenty five. I think that's
- 34:12Speaker 1: gonna do it for us, buddy, do you got anything
- 34:14Speaker 1: else before we head out here and before we digest
- 34:17Speaker 1: this even more this week?
- 34:20Speaker 2: I mean it was kind of nerve wracking and all
- 34:23Speaker 2: that stuff. Yeah, four and oh is four and oh.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Absolutely great way to end this Eagles postgame podcast show.
