- 0:25Speaker 1: from Rasball. How are you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Not too bad, not too bad. I coming to you
- 0:30Speaker 2: from Wisconsin today. It's over usual Midwest Central Illinois decide
- 0:35Speaker 2: to go up to the north Woods for the week,
- 0:36Speaker 2: but we do not miss the podcast, so I am here.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Even though I'm a little bit further north than usual,
- 0:43Speaker 2: We're still here to talk baseball, so I'm excited, ready
- 0:45Speaker 2: to go.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's good to give everybody a heads up
- 0:48Speaker 1: so that in case they hear any's squeaking in the
- 0:51Speaker 1: audio this week, that's just you mowing down on cheese curds.
- 0:54Speaker 1: No worries, no need to check the audio. This pristine
- 0:58Speaker 1: audio that I know that I pump out every week,
- 1:00Speaker 1: that is absolutely perfect in everybody's ears, So keep that
- 1:03Speaker 1: in mind if you hear those squeaks. But yes, we
- 1:06Speaker 1: got a great show for tonight. We're speaking on August twelfth,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and we are going to be covering the July Players
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the Month PC picks. So if you are not
- 1:15Speaker 1: familiar with what this is and it's your first time
- 1:18Speaker 1: joining in to the podcast or the first time we're
- 1:21Speaker 1: doing these PC picks. Well, first welcome, rate and review
- 1:24Speaker 1: us wherever you're listening to us. Definitely appreciate you following
- 1:28Speaker 1: the pod, and then if you set us to auto
- 1:31Speaker 1: download as well, that just helps support the pod through
- 1:34Speaker 1: those download metrics, as well as the slight incremental ad
- 1:38Speaker 1: revenue that we get from those wonderful ads. I'm sure
- 1:40Speaker 1: you heard before the episode started. What we do with
- 1:44Speaker 1: the PC picks is we examine the Player of the
- 1:47Speaker 1: Month award winners and we just pick some favorite cards
- 1:51Speaker 1: of them. So this month we've got six different players,
- 1:56Speaker 1: three each from the ALNL, a couple of rep but
- 2:00Speaker 1: I think we've still got plenty of choices to choose from.
- 2:03Speaker 1: It's one of our favorites, gets us into some deep
- 2:06Speaker 1: cuts of cards and allows us to try and describe
- 2:10Speaker 1: what we're looking at. If you are looking at your
- 2:14Speaker 1: phone right now, which I'm assuming this is where you're
- 2:16Speaker 1: listening to it, you might be on your laptop, I
- 2:18Speaker 1: guess as well, But go to the related Rasball post
- 2:21Speaker 1: which is linked in the show notes, you'll be able
- 2:24Speaker 1: to see pictures of the cards we're eventually going to discuss,
- 2:26Speaker 1: as well as all of the links to the news
- 2:28Speaker 1: and notes we're about to kick off with brew. It
- 2:31Speaker 1: was a pretty momentous week. We actually had a lot
- 2:34Speaker 1: of call ups and a lot of injuries after the deadline,
- 2:37Speaker 1: So a lot of these injuries we're also going to
- 2:39Speaker 1: talk about. We're starting to get into that dead zone where,
- 2:43Speaker 1: like I said, it's August twelfth, you add up six
- 2:45Speaker 1: weeks from today, which is you get a lot of
- 2:48Speaker 1: six to eight week time windows and injuries. That's the
- 2:50Speaker 1: end of the season. So we're gonna have a lot
- 2:53Speaker 1: of players that I think we're gonna suggest, hey, maybe
- 2:56Speaker 1: you have to drop them because you're out of roster spaces,
- 2:59Speaker 1: especially in a league. But this is a strange part
- 3:04Speaker 1: of the season to navigate right between all the injuries,
- 3:07Speaker 1: all the additional call ups, you're still settling down from
- 3:09Speaker 1: the trade deadline. Any pointers that you might have for
- 3:12Speaker 1: folks before we dive into these discussions as like just overall, hey,
- 3:17Speaker 1: this is how you navigate late August and into September
- 3:21Speaker 1: to make sure that you're closing out those fantasy seasons strong.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this, this is the point where you
- 3:26Speaker 2: just can't second guess, like you just have to make
- 3:28Speaker 2: a move and make a choice. I just had somebody
- 3:31Speaker 2: reach out actually right before the pod asking question that
- 3:33Speaker 2: if they should make a move for Royce Lewis with
- 3:36Speaker 2: against Miguel Vargas, and Vargas has been rough bad luck
- 3:41Speaker 2: or Lewis has been good some good luck. But it's
- 3:44Speaker 2: not about you know, who's gonna bounce back, what's gonna change.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Like we are, we have six weeks left, and so
- 3:50Speaker 2: if somebody's on a here, you got to make the call,
- 3:52Speaker 2: and you have to make the move, and it's gonna
- 3:54Speaker 2: like you're gonna feel like you're losing. Sometimes in some
- 3:56Speaker 2: of those trade offs, it's not gonna look pretty and
- 3:59Speaker 2: you might have kind of a hodgepodge team at the
- 4:01Speaker 2: end of the year. If you're in a playoff scenario
- 4:03Speaker 2: head to head, it might be a little different. But
- 4:05Speaker 2: if you're you know, especially in the rodo, you're you're
- 4:07Speaker 2: grabbing those guys and trying to get the hot streaks.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And if especially with pitchers, if you're sitting here six
- 4:13Speaker 2: weeks left, you're you're talking maybe seven or eight starts,
- 4:17Speaker 2: and that last week or two, depending on where they're
- 4:20Speaker 2: at in the standings, Like you're talking like fore inning
- 4:23Speaker 2: starts and you know, maybe some bullpen games things like that.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So if you have any questions or see a tough schedule,
- 4:29Speaker 2: you just need to make the move. And if you don't,
- 4:32Speaker 2: everybody else is don't wait for the guys to come
- 4:35Speaker 2: back and get hot, just go after the guys that
- 4:38Speaker 2: are So that's the big change at this point in season.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It is hard because you spent all year trying to
- 4:43Speaker 2: make the best team and now we're just telling you
- 4:46Speaker 2: tear it down, pick the hot hand, and run with it.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But that's honestly the way you gotta play.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. And on top of it, I
- 4:52Speaker 1: mean start watching the playing time too, because the worst
- 4:56Speaker 1: case scenario is where you find a guy where you
- 4:59Speaker 1: know he's been in a strong side, buttun all season
- 5:01Speaker 1: you're getting just enough playing time, they're out of the race,
- 5:04Speaker 1: they start shuffling those platoons around and the guys losing
- 5:07Speaker 1: at bats. Make sure that you're still keeping up that
- 5:10Speaker 1: volume here late in the season because that's gonna be
- 5:13Speaker 1: the key to putting up numbers. And then, like you said, yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 1: be aggressive. Certainly you got to throttle it if you're
- 5:19Speaker 1: in tight situations for ra whip batting average in your
- 5:23Speaker 1: roto leagues. But if you're not, you can throw caution
- 5:26Speaker 1: to the wind and really kind of absorb a lot
- 5:28Speaker 1: of bad outings if you're not neck and neck in
- 5:32Speaker 1: any er or whip titles. So just know what you
- 5:36Speaker 1: where you're at in the standings, and yeah, make the moves.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And I think the other thing too is you can
- 5:40Speaker 1: also try to take advantage of some people that their
- 5:43Speaker 1: eyes are straying to fantasy football at this point that
- 5:46Speaker 1: you can usually make up some ground just by being
- 5:49Speaker 1: active throughout the last month and a half. So don't fade. Now,
- 5:53Speaker 1: let's get into some of those news and notes. We're
- 5:55Speaker 1: gonna start with the sad stuff first. We're gonna start
- 5:57Speaker 1: with the injuries first before we get into the callups,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and like I said, a lot of these we're gonna
- 6:02Speaker 1: be looking at guys that are probably already packing it
- 6:05Speaker 1: in for twenty twenty six and we'll see them in
- 6:07Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. The first one maybe we don't see
- 6:11Speaker 1: un till twenty twenty eight, as Hunter Green is down
- 6:14Speaker 1: again for the Cincinnati Reds is gonna undergo elbow surgery
- 6:19Speaker 1: after going undergoing the knife earlier this season to take
- 6:23Speaker 1: loose bodies out of elbow. Now they're going back for
- 6:25Speaker 1: revision on the ligaments inside the elbows. So we don't
- 6:30Speaker 1: know right now if it's gonna be a Tommy John
- 6:32Speaker 1: or a internal brace procedure. Honestly, maybe a both. I
- 6:37Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised that they got that route. With Hunter Green.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It is gonna be a very ignoble season. And this
- 6:43Speaker 1: is a guy who I think both of us were
- 6:45Speaker 1: really really far out just given the injury history coming
- 6:48Speaker 1: into this year. But it was rough. If you had
- 6:51Speaker 1: waited for the twenty seven and two thirds innings that
- 6:54Speaker 1: you got out of him, it was a six eighty
- 6:56Speaker 1: three era much better fifth at three fifty five. The
- 6:58Speaker 1: strikeouts were down a tick from where they were in
- 7:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. But like I said, this is a
- 7:05Speaker 1: guy where I mean I was out coming into the season.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Now I'm like fully out. This is a guy who
- 7:12Speaker 1: underwent a UCL surgery in twenty nineteen, and you're looking
- 7:17Speaker 1: also at here's the rest of the injuries that he's
- 7:21Speaker 1: racked up. A shoulder strain in twenty twenty two, hip
- 7:24Speaker 1: strain in twenty twenty three, COVID. He got COVID in
- 7:27Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, well, twenty twenty four, elbow sordness, twenty
- 7:31Speaker 1: twenty five, growing strain, twenty twenty five, growing strain. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: that's where it like double dipped last year, Anya this
- 7:38Speaker 1: year elbow loose bodies, elbow ligament. He's never been able
- 7:43Speaker 1: to stay healthy Hunter Green, that is, and now he
- 7:45Speaker 1: is twenty seven. He actually just turned twenty seven last week.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So by the time he gets back on the field,
- 7:51Speaker 1: we're looking at a guy who's going to be close to
- 7:53Speaker 1: thirty and pitches in a rough home ballpark. This is
- 7:58Speaker 1: not a guy that I don't think you want to
- 7:59Speaker 1: be approaching any sort of dinast to keep your leagues.
- 8:02Speaker 1: But I know you're the injured picture of Guru. What
- 8:05Speaker 1: do you think about hundred green?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's it's really tough, and this is
- 8:09Speaker 2: the kind of profile Like you're right. I do like
- 8:12Speaker 2: my injured pictures. I like the discount things like that.
- 8:14Speaker 2: But there's two types that I look at and one's okay,
- 8:18Speaker 2: one's not, and this one's not. The one that's okay,
- 8:21Speaker 2: is you know, kind of the what I call the
- 8:22Speaker 2: freak injury, like healthy the whole time, then battles an
- 8:26Speaker 2: arm issue, is out for a season, comes back. That's
- 8:30Speaker 2: the guy I'm willing to gamble on because he had
- 8:33Speaker 2: one problem and he rehabed from it and he's back
- 8:36Speaker 2: and there's not all these other issues around the way
- 8:40Speaker 2: he delivers the ball, the way he needs to be
- 8:42Speaker 2: on the mound, the way he needs to drive. And
- 8:44Speaker 2: the other side is Hunter Green, and we've seen that
- 8:46Speaker 2: with this with the Spencer Striders and Cole Reagan's guys
- 8:50Speaker 2: like that, where they just have a litany of continual
- 8:53Speaker 2: injuries and the arms just one part of it. That's
- 8:57Speaker 2: the guys that scare me away because you're trying to
- 8:59Speaker 2: get back and you're already a guy that tends to,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know, push the push, push the envelope a little bit,
- 9:06Speaker 2: and you also need your arm to get fully healthy.
- 9:09Speaker 2: That is gonna take a few ticks off the fastball,
- 9:11Speaker 2: that's gonna not make the spin as solid as it
- 9:15Speaker 2: probably was, and it's gonna take longer to get back.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I think Hunter Green has all the talent in the world,
- 9:20Speaker 2: but I think we are talking at best in twenty
- 9:23Speaker 2: twenty eight here, and he's he's gonna have to really
- 9:27Speaker 2: really prove that health and prove that that velocity is
- 9:30Speaker 2: still there, because if this is a guy, if he
- 9:31Speaker 2: doesn't have the velocity, his stuff doesn't play nearly what
- 9:34Speaker 2: it needs to. And so I'm with you, I'm shying away.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't really have any interest. You know, sure dart throw,
- 9:41Speaker 2: if you get him free in a dynasty type league,
- 9:43Speaker 2: sure you know you can play that, because if you
- 9:46Speaker 2: get anything, it's worth it. But if I would not
- 9:49Speaker 2: make it a strategy for any means to pick up
- 9:51Speaker 2: Hunter Green going forward.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think I am right there with you.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So next injury we have is Toronto blue Jay starting
- 9:59Speaker 1: pitcher Trey Savage is going to be out, he says
- 10:02Speaker 1: week to week right now, That's what the Blue Jays
- 10:04Speaker 1: have said. He underwent surgery for torn meniscus this week.
- 10:09Speaker 1: This is usually, honestly, like an eight to twelve week
- 10:11Speaker 1: sort of recovery. We don't know the extent of like
- 10:15Speaker 1: the meniscus removal and kind of the cleanup, because we've also,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think seen cases where it is three to four weeks.
- 10:22Speaker 1: If it's a pretty minor procedure and they didn't have
- 10:24Speaker 1: to stitch any of the meniscus back together and things
- 10:27Speaker 1: like that. But the Blue Jays are being very mum
- 10:30Speaker 1: about the extent of the injury. I think part of
- 10:32Speaker 1: it is that Toronto has gotten themselves back into the
- 10:37Speaker 1: wild card race, and I think they're trying to hide
- 10:40Speaker 1: their cards a little bit about whether or not you
- 10:42Speaker 1: Savage will be available for the playoffs and the stretch run.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But I think from a fantasy perspective, we can probably
- 10:49Speaker 1: count your Savage out for the rest of twenty twenty
- 10:52Speaker 1: six unless it is some sort of miracle recovery from
- 10:55Speaker 1: the meniscus. But like we said, we're about six weeks
- 10:58Speaker 1: out from the end of the season. Uh, that's going
- 11:01Speaker 1: to be a pretty quick turnaround out of manisca surgery.
- 11:04Speaker 1: A mixed season here for Trea Savage. He had shoulder
- 11:07Speaker 1: surgery in the off season, so he didn't get a
- 11:10Speaker 1: start until later in the season and put up ninety
- 11:15Speaker 1: three and two thirds innings with a three sixty five
- 11:17Speaker 1: ERA a four h six FIP. The walks were starting
- 11:22Speaker 1: to creep up there where this kind of was his bugaboo.
- 11:26Speaker 1: When he came through the mine hairs a little bit
- 11:27Speaker 1: as well, an eleven point nine percent walk rate, but
- 11:30Speaker 1: the strikeouts were there at twenty three point six percent,
- 11:33Speaker 1: maybe a little bit less than you would have expected,
- 11:35Speaker 1: but the first couple outings when he was coming back
- 11:37Speaker 1: and working his way back were not exactly his sharpest. Uh.
- 11:41Speaker 1: This guy is somebody that we've both been inn He's
- 11:44Speaker 1: still only twenty three, which he looks so much older,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think is what it is, even though like he
- 11:51Speaker 1: was drafted in twenty twenty four, so we shouldn't have
- 11:55Speaker 1: an expectation of him being old. But he should be
- 12:00Speaker 1: back on the mound and pretty much ship shape is
- 12:03Speaker 1: assuming nothing goes wrong down the stretch here that the
- 12:06Speaker 1: miniscus should be fully healed going to twenty twenty seven.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But you're also looking at a guy who it's now
- 12:13Speaker 1: two straight years of ending it on injuries, one with
- 12:16Speaker 1: the shoulder, one with the knee. Also an outlier in
- 12:21Speaker 1: terms of the release point, like guys do not throw
- 12:25Speaker 1: from that release high release point that he uses a lot,
- 12:27Speaker 1: because it is a grind on your shoulder to throw
- 12:30Speaker 1: from that spot. Somebody who I've traded to you in
- 12:33Speaker 1: our Autono league because of some of these concerns, but
- 12:36Speaker 1: also I couldn't pass up the price on some of
- 12:38Speaker 1: the pieces that were coming back in pursuit of my championship.
- 12:42Speaker 1: So I'm actually a little bit torn on what I'm
- 12:45Speaker 1: doing with Ya Savage going to twenty seven.
- 12:47Speaker 2: What are you doing? Yeah, I'm I'm torn, but optimistic
- 12:50Speaker 2: still just because I don't see like a big injury
- 12:55Speaker 2: issue yet, Like, yeah, we've had too. We just talked
- 12:59Speaker 2: about with green out how you have to be careful
- 13:01Speaker 2: if you start to see a pattern. I'm not I'm
- 13:02Speaker 2: not counting two with one arm injury and one non
- 13:05Speaker 2: arm injury, like a terrible scary pattern. Yet and to
- 13:10Speaker 2: your point, they're playing things bumb Like I do think
- 13:12Speaker 2: the reason they he went under the knife is because
- 13:14Speaker 2: they want to get him back for the playoffs if
- 13:16Speaker 2: if they if they're able to to get there. But
- 13:20Speaker 2: I look at this as a guy that's still trying
- 13:21Speaker 2: to learn to pitch and really find his footing. Like
- 13:24Speaker 2: if you look at his outings, like just look at
- 13:26Speaker 2: his game log, it's almost hilarious. He goes from like
- 13:29Speaker 2: brilliant start to absolute disaster. You know, I'm just gonna
- 13:34Speaker 2: go around early July here on seven five, he went
- 13:38Speaker 2: six innings, struck out seven, only walked to and give
- 13:41Speaker 2: up to two earned runs. The next outing he went
- 13:44Speaker 2: one and two thirds, walked seven guys and struck out one,
- 13:48Speaker 2: gave up four runs out and after that six innings,
- 13:50Speaker 2: nine k's and give up three like he And actually
- 13:55Speaker 2: that continued for the next few outings where he's just
- 13:56Speaker 2: striking out a ton of guys and then all of
- 13:58Speaker 2: a sudden he's walking some more again, right, and so
- 14:01Speaker 2: it feels that he's still trying to feel who he
- 14:03Speaker 2: is a pitcher. We saw a big variation in ground
- 14:05Speaker 2: ball right this year, went from like forty five last year,
- 14:08Speaker 2: which really really small samples has last year the low
- 14:11Speaker 2: thirties this year. So again he's still trying to figure
- 14:14Speaker 2: out who he is. But there's a ton of talent there.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I just think coming into the season he was a
- 14:19Speaker 2: lot in the conversations with the Noel mcclaims, the Cam Schlitzler's,
- 14:22Speaker 2: the Jak Misrowski's and all those other guys kind of
- 14:26Speaker 2: took the next step, and he didn't. I don't think
- 14:29Speaker 2: that that means he won't. I think he's just learning
- 14:32Speaker 2: to pitch. And there's a ton of talent there. But
- 14:35Speaker 2: I do have him kind of a tier down of
- 14:38Speaker 2: kind of a watch going to next year, because if
- 14:40Speaker 2: he can't figure out the control, then this is a
- 14:42Speaker 2: profile that I'm worried about. But I'm not quite there yet.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all very fair. I mean,
- 14:50Speaker 1: I think what my approach for him going to twenty
- 14:52Speaker 1: seven too is The other thing here is he's just
- 14:55Speaker 1: never put up a ton of innings. Last year was
- 14:58Speaker 1: pretty much as high where once you add in the
- 15:02Speaker 1: i mean, once you add in the postseason innings, you're
- 15:05Speaker 1: getting upwards of about one hundred and thirty he put
- 15:09Speaker 1: up last year. So that's that's a pretty much foload
- 15:12Speaker 1: for a picture nowadays. But I am gonna, I think
- 15:17Speaker 1: throttle the innings next year into like the one hundred
- 15:21Speaker 1: ish range because it is a little glass nowy in
- 15:24Speaker 1: here too as well as like the Blue Jays have
- 15:26Speaker 1: every incentive to really baby him and make sure that
- 15:30Speaker 1: he stays healthy because he's such a core piece for
- 15:32Speaker 1: them and is, you know, pre arbitration until twenty twenty nine,
- 15:37Speaker 1: so like there's a lot of incentive for the Blue
- 15:40Speaker 1: Jays to make sure that they keep you Savage healthy,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and like I said, with that high release point, I
- 15:46Speaker 1: think he is going to go through bouts of just
- 15:48Speaker 1: the shoulder starts sparking at him. He needs a couple
- 15:51Speaker 1: of weeks off recovers and as long as you know
- 15:54Speaker 1: he's not doing long term damage and they're finding the
- 15:56Speaker 1: way to manage and mitigate it, it works and you
- 15:59Speaker 1: can slot it into your lineup, but it might not
- 16:01Speaker 1: be the most serene experience in terms of the times
- 16:08Speaker 1: he's on the mound versus off the mound. And if
- 16:10Speaker 1: you know you can handle rostering a glass, now you
- 16:13Speaker 1: know in your team and in your strategy, I think
- 16:15Speaker 1: the Savage can slot in very nicely for that going forward.
- 16:19Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Okay, we have another injured picture, which I mean we've
- 16:24Speaker 1: actually got quite a few. I don't need to it missed.
- 16:28Speaker 2: The whole podcast is just injer pictures.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Now we're going to talk Joe Ryan of the Minnesota Twins,
- 16:32Speaker 1: who was placed on the shelf with a butt strain.
- 16:35Speaker 1: He strained his left glute, so they're calling it a
- 16:39Speaker 1: mild glute strain, but you got to wonder if something
- 16:43Speaker 1: else is going on here. The past three starts for
- 16:45Speaker 1: Joe Ryan were absolutely awful. Sixteen earned over fifteen and
- 16:50Speaker 1: a third, seven home runs, given up six of them
- 16:53Speaker 1: in one game against Cleveland. The fastball has dropped off,
- 16:58Speaker 1: the ground ball rate has it steadied out, just because
- 17:02Speaker 1: in the last game against Kansas City it really jumped
- 17:06Speaker 1: back up, but he still gave up four and runs
- 17:09Speaker 1: over five and a third in that outing. The control
- 17:12Speaker 1: was still there for Joe Ryan. Would you like to
- 17:13Speaker 1: see which till that gives me good good feeling, because
- 17:17Speaker 1: that tells me a little bit more so. It's not
- 17:19Speaker 1: in the elbow where I think he's battling. Honestly, I
- 17:22Speaker 1: think it feels just more like it's maybe shoulder and
- 17:25Speaker 1: back when you're talking, especially the kinetic chain with the glute.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Before that, I mean, he was a perfectly cromulent back
- 17:33Speaker 1: end number one front end number two starter that you're
- 17:36Speaker 1: expecting from him. But what do you do with Joe
- 17:39Speaker 1: Ryan going forward, considering this glut strain seems to be
- 17:43Speaker 1: symptomatic of something else that's been bothering him.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm actually taking this one at face value,
- 17:49Speaker 2: which is usually not the mo of his podcast, but
- 17:53Speaker 2: it's actually not. The evidence says that we usually shouldn't
- 17:56Speaker 2: as well. But the reason I say that is with
- 18:00Speaker 2: a glue issue, it is really hard to get that
- 18:04Speaker 2: full rotation and it leads to low back issues and
- 18:07Speaker 2: so you don't actually follow through, which means your velocity
- 18:10Speaker 2: is going to struggle. Generally, your control's going to struggle.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised we didn't see that, but I'm
- 18:14Speaker 2: guessing he didn't have the shape on his pitches the
- 18:16Speaker 2: way he normally does. He wasn't able to place them
- 18:18Speaker 2: where he wanted to. So, like the evidence kind of
- 18:22Speaker 2: lines up for me that truly he's having a glue
- 18:24Speaker 2: issue which is causing some issues with him being able
- 18:28Speaker 2: to fully finish his rotation in his delivery. So if
- 18:32Speaker 2: that's truly the case, and if you, like you said,
- 18:34Speaker 2: you look at and you get rid of those last
- 18:36Speaker 2: three starts, he was brilliant this year, and that's he's
- 18:39Speaker 2: being exist I would say brilliant. He's being Joe Ryan like,
- 18:41Speaker 2: he's being exactly who he's been his whole career. And
- 18:44Speaker 2: so for this season, like I'm I don't have high
- 18:47Speaker 2: hopes if he even if he makes it back, because
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think this is one where he needs to be
- 18:51Speaker 2: fully healthy for things to work out and gluten strains,
- 18:56Speaker 2: I mean they're they're they're funny of course for all
- 18:59Speaker 2: of us, but like they're not easy recovery. Like it's
- 19:01Speaker 2: that's like a lot of massage therapy work, a lot
- 19:03Speaker 2: of stretching, like and rest, which all those don't combine well.
- 19:07Speaker 2: So like he's gonna be I'd be surprised we'd get
- 19:10Speaker 2: more than like one or two starts, assuming the twins
- 19:13Speaker 2: are still in the hunt. And that's really what it's
- 19:15Speaker 2: gonna come down to, is if they're in the hunt
- 19:17Speaker 2: and I'm not really relying on those I still think
- 19:19Speaker 2: he's a number one going to next year. I have
- 19:22Speaker 2: no qualms about that. I will absolutely own him in
- 19:24Speaker 2: a lot of places. People are going to continue to
- 19:26Speaker 2: undervalue him, and I'm going to continue to own Joe Ryan.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I think that's fair making me feel a
- 19:31Speaker 1: little bit better about what he's facing. But uh yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 1: something to consider. I don't actually have all the guys.
- 19:37Speaker 1: He's probably the least dropable we're probably going to talk about,
- 19:40Speaker 1: just because the gluten strain could actually just be a
- 19:44Speaker 1: ten to fifteen day issue. If that's all he needed
- 19:46Speaker 1: was a little bit of rest to reset and let
- 19:49Speaker 1: that strain kind of heal up a little bit that
- 19:53Speaker 1: I think you're probably not dropping Ryan for twenty twenty six, right, No.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I don't think so, because my guess is this has
- 19:59Speaker 2: been alien him for a few weeks, and the the
- 20:02Speaker 2: il stint is because we need to get you healthy
- 20:05Speaker 2: and we can't have the half version of you. And
- 20:08Speaker 2: so yeah, I still think we get a number of
- 20:10Speaker 2: starts from him. Again, I think it comes down to
- 20:12Speaker 2: what happens with the Twins over the next week and
- 20:14Speaker 2: a half. They stay in the race, we're gonna see
- 20:18Speaker 2: Joe Ryan. They massively face planted, which I mean, if
- 20:21Speaker 2: you look at the league, there's teams face planning and
- 20:23Speaker 2: you know, running the table left and right or doing
- 20:25Speaker 2: both at the same time. Thank you, Boston. But you know,
- 20:30Speaker 2: I think that we're going to see more Joe Ryan.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Of all the guys we're talking about, at least at
- 20:34Speaker 2: this point, Joe Ryan's the one that I would be
- 20:36Speaker 2: willing to gamble on.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I think I'm there with you. Next injury
- 20:41Speaker 1: we have is Texas Rangers picture Nathan Alvaldi hitting the
- 20:44Speaker 1: il with elbow inflammation, and I think this is just
- 20:48Speaker 1: the Nathan ale Valdi experience. Now, once he hits one
- 20:50Speaker 1: hundred and thirty innings, everything after that for the team
- 20:54Speaker 1: I think is gravy. So like that's where he ended
- 20:57Speaker 1: last year, that the shoulder shut him down. And let's
- 21:00Speaker 1: I mean in twenty twenty four he made twenty nine starts.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But otherwise since twenty twenty two, number starts from Nathan
- 21:07Speaker 1: Uvaldi twenty twenty five, twenty nine, twenty two, twenty two,
- 21:12Speaker 1: number of innings one oh nine and a third, one
- 21:15Speaker 1: forty four, one seventy and two thirds, one thirty one,
- 21:18Speaker 1: thirty two and two thirds. Uh, the era has been
- 21:21Speaker 1: pretty steady. He turns thirty six, well, he is thirty six.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He turns thirty seven in February. Certainly this year is disappointing.
- 21:32Speaker 1: If you're hoping for a repeater that one seventy three
- 21:35Speaker 1: ra from twenty twenty five, you also probably knew that
- 21:38Speaker 1: wasn't gonna happen. The four twenty one it wasn't quite
- 21:41Speaker 1: as bad as it seemed, because I mean, he was posting,
- 21:44Speaker 1: he gave you wins, he gave you strikeouts, and really
- 21:49Speaker 1: after the first two outings of the season where he
- 21:52Speaker 1: gave up eleven runs across two starts at Baltimore after Philadelphia.
- 21:56Speaker 1: At Philadelphia, he put up a three seventy era. He
- 21:59Speaker 1: was perfectly fine. The other component here, too is actually
- 22:02Speaker 1: DRA minus from Baseball Perspectives tells an even better story.
- 22:06Speaker 1: His dra minus every year since twenty twenty two, eighty one,
- 22:11Speaker 1: ninety one, eighty three, seventy four, seventy seven. I think
- 22:15Speaker 1: you can see where I'm going with this story that
- 22:17Speaker 1: Nathan Valdi is. This is who he is, and it's
- 22:20Speaker 1: a little bit like the the glass now, where you
- 22:23Speaker 1: got a pencil in one hundred and thirty innings, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: if you get more than one hundred and thirty innings,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I think you're gonna be lucky. But the one hundred
- 22:30Speaker 1: and thirty innings you're gonna get are gonna be number two,
- 22:33Speaker 1: number three starter quality. Uh, set it and forget it
- 22:36Speaker 1: until his arm falls off for me.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this is a pitching's version of Byron Buxton,
- 22:42Speaker 2: where you know it's it's it's quality. When you get it,
- 22:45Speaker 2: you know you're not gonna get all the full time
- 22:48Speaker 2: and every season or so it's just gonna be amazing.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Because he does play the whole time. That's what we
- 22:53Speaker 2: had last year. Than the price is gonna go up,
- 22:54Speaker 2: it's not worth paying the prices and come back down
- 22:56Speaker 2: as worth paying. Like that's the roller coaster of those
- 22:58Speaker 2: kind of guys. And that's exactly who VOLDI is. So
- 23:01Speaker 2: I have no problems owning him. I but to your point,
- 23:05Speaker 2: that one hundred, one hundred and twenty inning spot is
- 23:07Speaker 2: what you expect to get. So that's why you never
- 23:09Speaker 2: draft him as a one two, three, four four. I
- 23:12Speaker 2: mean you're drafting this guy is like a five six
- 23:14Speaker 2: seven to plug in and go into the season. People
- 23:18Speaker 2: draft him higher because that one seventy three era and
- 23:20Speaker 2: we knew it wasn't gonna hold up getting the four
- 23:23Speaker 2: to twenty one. But under the covers it looks pretty
- 23:25Speaker 2: much identical. So yeah, give me thirty seven year old Valdi,
- 23:29Speaker 2: Give me one hundred and twenty innings, ten wins with
- 23:32Speaker 2: a sub four ERA and a strikeout per nine per
- 23:35Speaker 2: per inning, and I'm happy. So, I mean, that's who
- 23:38Speaker 2: he is. We've discussed this for like years of the vault.
- 23:41Speaker 2: He's the same. He will not change, yep.
- 23:44Speaker 1: And you can almost like set it and forget it.
- 23:45Speaker 1: That He's gonna be one of our picks for the
- 23:47Speaker 1: buye in the Texas Strangers preview in the twenty twenty
- 23:50Speaker 1: seven preview season. So h yeah, the price just never
- 23:54Speaker 1: feels like it's gonna go up to meet what that
- 23:56Speaker 1: is because even when you punch in those results into
- 23:59Speaker 1: an auction calculator, it's gonna be a valuable enough pitcher
- 24:03Speaker 1: to use for fantasy in pretty much every league under
- 24:06Speaker 1: the sun. Okay, let's talk. The next injury that we're
- 24:09Speaker 1: gonna deal with is Griffin Jacks of the Tampa Bay
- 24:12Speaker 1: Rays going down also with a sore elbow. This one,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it sounds like we're waiting for a little bit more news.
- 24:20Speaker 1: You know. He left and went on the il with
- 24:24Speaker 1: elbow discomfort, which is never great to hear, and especially
- 24:28Speaker 1: really bad to hear when you have a guy who's
- 24:31Speaker 1: been working through the transition from reliever to starter the
- 24:34Speaker 1: way Jacks was. What also kind of sucks about this
- 24:37Speaker 1: is that he was really starting to find his groove.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Since the beginning of June. It had been twelve out
- 24:43Speaker 1: twelve outings twelve starts there with a five and six
- 24:48Speaker 1: record over sixty one and two thirds innings, a three
- 24:50Speaker 1: sixty five ra a three sixty five FIP. The K
- 24:54Speaker 1: minus BB was twenty three point one percent. He was
- 24:59Speaker 1: really turning into a solid, solid starter. He's got most
- 25:04Speaker 1: of the stuff that he had when he was a believer.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Everything has backed up slightly, but you know, taking up
- 25:10Speaker 1: taking that back up in the degree that you would
- 25:13Speaker 1: expect going from relieving to starting where you know you're
- 25:17Speaker 1: gonna get maybe eighty percent of the best fastball or slider.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So still great arsenal, you know, five above pitches, above
- 25:26Speaker 1: average pitches. But yeah, he saw Keith Meister yesterday, doctor
- 25:32Speaker 1: Keith Meister, who's kind of becoming the new Neil Ela Trash. Thankfully,
- 25:35Speaker 1: no secret Tommy John surgery. Sounds like he just got
- 25:39Speaker 1: corterzone shot to the elbow. But if you're being sent
- 25:42Speaker 1: to doctor Keith Meister for anything, not exactly a great
- 25:46Speaker 1: pathway to be treading. So what are your thoughts here
- 25:49Speaker 1: on Gryffin Jack's going forward?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this is tough because Griffin Jacks is solid.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I love to see the transition to the starter. I
- 25:55Speaker 2: thought it was gonna work well, and it has generally
- 25:57Speaker 2: worked pretty well. I this is the probably between Joe
- 26:02Speaker 2: Ryan and any other pitcher we talked about, which is
- 26:06Speaker 2: just pure drops. This is the one guy I'm I'm
- 26:09Speaker 2: also willing to hold if I have a spot like
- 26:11Speaker 2: I'm not high enough on Jack. He's not gonna go
- 26:13Speaker 2: deep enough in the games, and I don't think Tampa's
- 26:16Speaker 2: gonna be They're not gonna mess around. They they are
- 26:19Speaker 2: gonna make sure he's fully healthy before before they bring
- 26:21Speaker 2: him back. And I think that's the right thing to do.
- 26:23Speaker 2: They've they've got a six and a half game lead,
- 26:26Speaker 2: uh in the East, and so they're they're not relying
- 26:28Speaker 2: on Griffin Jacks to drive this through. So I think
- 26:32Speaker 2: maybe get a starter or two coming back. But I'm
- 26:36Speaker 2: you know, he's he's probably drop ball at this point
- 26:37Speaker 2: honestly for me. But I still do like him going
- 26:40Speaker 2: into two next year. So still high overall in the
- 26:43Speaker 2: overall profile. Hopefully this is just you know, adjusting to
- 26:47Speaker 2: starting and uh, you know a little bit more aware
- 26:49Speaker 2: and tear. And again he's pitched decent. I mean, for
- 26:52Speaker 2: being a reliever in the past, getting seventy eighty evenings
- 26:55Speaker 2: a season is actually pretty got starting and strong, and
- 26:58Speaker 2: so I'm not too worried about the durability. But you know,
- 27:00Speaker 2: you know how these things go. We could have news
- 27:02Speaker 2: of Tommy John tomorrow and all this is out the window.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But assuming this is truly just inflammation, you know, it's
- 27:10Speaker 2: it's more kind of that I'll call it the dead
- 27:12Speaker 2: arm reports that we kind of get is more what
- 27:14Speaker 2: this feels like, you know, tend to for the rest
- 27:17Speaker 2: of the year. Excited about twenty seven.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's going to be really interesting to see
- 27:22Speaker 1: what his draft day prices as we get into twenty
- 27:24Speaker 1: twenty seven, when you throw this elbow injury into everything,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you know, the projections, It's going to be interesting to
- 27:31Speaker 1: see how they value him in terms of finding the
- 27:36Speaker 1: right blend of you know, he did relieving and starting
- 27:39Speaker 1: this year, do they pick up the differentiation in how
- 27:43Speaker 1: the stuff played in each type of role. And then
- 27:46Speaker 1: on top of it, you know, you're always going to
- 27:49Speaker 1: kind of get like the razification of a picture that happens.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I feel like in draft seasons. Surprisingly, I mean it
- 27:57Speaker 1: will for next year, it will hit Drew Rasmussen, but yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: ever quite hitting it, but he wasn't hitting it until
- 28:03Speaker 1: you know, after this. But like Ryan Pepio is always overdrafted,
- 28:07Speaker 1: Shan Mcclanahanzel was overdrafted, and so I mean, I'm interested
- 28:12Speaker 1: in Jack's, but the draft day price has got to
- 28:14Speaker 1: be right, and I want him to fall to like
- 28:17Speaker 1: number four starting price. I don't know if he will.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I think he might get bought as more of like
- 28:23Speaker 1: a number three starter in like the top forty when
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think I would rather buy him in like, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 1: top sixty, top seventy five, because I think we're not
- 28:31Speaker 1: the only ones that will look at that split since
- 28:34Speaker 1: June and notice how great he was.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think it's gonna be mixed. I
- 28:38Speaker 2: do think he's gonna drop a little bit because the injury,
- 28:41Speaker 2: because he hasn't done as deep into games, the overall
- 28:43Speaker 2: line doesn't look as great. So I think we have
- 28:45Speaker 2: one more year on Jackson's kind of like I feel
- 28:47Speaker 2: like his little Rasmus in this where we have one
- 28:49Speaker 2: more year on it is where I'm leaning at this point.
- 28:52Speaker 2: But we'll see what the draft day looks like. But
- 28:54Speaker 2: I think you have one more year to buy Griffin Jackson,
- 28:57Speaker 2: then the other the other the other way, the other way,
- 29:00Speaker 2: we have to go with what we do with every
- 29:01Speaker 2: race pitcher.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah, the other factor too, is I mean, maybe the
- 29:06Speaker 1: Rays don't try to stretch him all the way out
- 29:09Speaker 1: and becomes a reliever for the playoffs. So if that
- 29:12Speaker 1: happens too, that will also be a factor in his
- 29:14Speaker 1: price that you know, then there's the is a relief
- 29:17Speaker 1: or is he a starter question? Again? But I think
- 29:20Speaker 1: in dynasty keeper leagues you can start valuing him as
- 29:23Speaker 1: a starter going forward. I don't see why the Rays
- 29:26Speaker 1: would go back to relieving him because he got through
- 29:28Speaker 1: the bump and the stuff looked good, assuming that the
- 29:31Speaker 1: elbow holds up. Okay, next injury, we're talking closers. Baby,
- 29:37Speaker 1: who loves some late August closer talk? You know I don't.
- 29:42Speaker 1: So we're going to New York. We're talking Devin Williams.
- 29:46Speaker 1: He's got a bum, shoulder, a shoulder strain. I think
- 29:48Speaker 1: there's zero chance that he comes back this season. The
- 29:51Speaker 1: Mets are out of it. They've got him signed through
- 29:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty eight. There's no reason for the Mets to
- 29:56Speaker 1: push Devin Williams at any any avenue to get back
- 30:01Speaker 1: on the mountain. Because the other thing, too is they
- 30:03Speaker 1: could probably just use a full mental reset on him.
- 30:06Speaker 1: You know, another rough season thirty eight and two thirds
- 30:09Speaker 1: innings a four sixty six r but the three h
- 30:12Speaker 1: eight fip was still there. Certainly he didn't get helped
- 30:14Speaker 1: by the Mets defense behind him as a three eighty
- 30:17Speaker 1: eight babbit. But this is also one of those things
- 30:21Speaker 1: where like if you watched any Devin Williams outings, this
- 30:25Speaker 1: is not the Devin Williams of old. The airbender is
- 30:29Speaker 1: not the same airbender it used to be, and the
- 30:32Speaker 1: zip on the fastball isn't there. And what really drove
- 30:35Speaker 1: the success of Devin Williams back in the day was
- 30:37Speaker 1: when he was hitting ninety eight ninety nine on that fastball,
- 30:41Speaker 1: because then the airbender played up like there's no way
- 30:44Speaker 1: you could prepare for the ninety nine mili hour fastball
- 30:49Speaker 1: at the top of the zone and cover the ground
- 30:51Speaker 1: for the wicked screwball change up airbender that he was
- 30:55Speaker 1: going to throw as well, when he's only thrown ninety four. Uh,
- 30:59Speaker 1: that's five velocity and MLB hitters are good. You're also
- 31:04Speaker 1: talking that that airbender just change up has not been
- 31:09Speaker 1: as sharp as it has been in the past when
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's moving at the lower velows. But I think it's
- 31:13Speaker 1: still gonna be the Closer in New York going into
- 31:16Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. Let's talk to the rest of twenty
- 31:19Speaker 1: twenty six though, because uh, do you have the cojones
- 31:22Speaker 1: to do the code I singa Closer experience.
- 31:25Speaker 2: No, I do not. It was it was so funny.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, this is you know, popential opportunity. And
- 31:31Speaker 2: then you start looking like, yeah, they try to weaver that,
- 31:33Speaker 2: like they moved away from everybody. You look at the
- 31:35Speaker 2: rest of the bullet and it's like, honestly, it's only
- 31:37Speaker 2: Singa is the only guy that makes sense. And I
- 31:39Speaker 2: know he looked good in this one safe he had,
- 31:41Speaker 2: but I just can't do it. I just he's not
- 31:45Speaker 2: the kind of guy that, to me, you know, just
- 31:47Speaker 2: speaks of everything's gonna play up in the bullpen because
- 31:49Speaker 2: he's just gonna go all out, like he doesn't feel
- 31:51Speaker 2: like he has that extra gear, and so I'm not
- 31:54Speaker 2: quite sure that I'm willing to go there. It just
- 31:55Speaker 2: feels I mean, if I'm desperate, sure you have to
- 31:57Speaker 2: right at this point of the season, but if you know,
- 32:00Speaker 2: all things considered, if I have other options, I am gladly
- 32:03Speaker 2: looking elsewhere on the CONDI singa Closer experiments. So maybe
- 32:07Speaker 2: that's just me, but I'm not gonna be on that train.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's a good train to avoid. You're
- 32:14Speaker 1: talking to dude with who's put about fifteen point four
- 32:17Speaker 1: percent walk rate this year and has a twenty eight
- 32:20Speaker 1: point six percent ground ball rate. There's only one way
- 32:23Speaker 1: that this goes. Certainly he locked up the first save,
- 32:27Speaker 1: but there's gonna be a lot of walk off three
- 32:29Speaker 1: run jacks happening against them. That's over the next six
- 32:32Speaker 1: weeks if Senga is in that role the entire time.
- 32:35Speaker 1: So yeah, I would run away. This is that can
- 32:38Speaker 1: just turn into such a disaster so quick. All right, Well,
- 32:42Speaker 1: we wrapped up the injured pitchers. Let's get into some
- 32:44Speaker 1: injured hitters because we got some doozies again. Let's start
- 32:47Speaker 1: with Nick Kurtz here, who we talked about last week
- 32:50Speaker 1: with that thumb injury, and we already put out the
- 32:52Speaker 1: warnings last week. We're like, hey, we're pretty close to
- 32:55Speaker 1: the end of the season. Thumb springs like what Kurts
- 32:58Speaker 1: has do not always go linearly in terms of the
- 33:03Speaker 1: way they heal. Hey, guess what, he reaggravated it and
- 33:06Speaker 1: now he is I think he's done for the season.
- 33:09Speaker 1: There's no way. I think the A's try to push
- 33:12Speaker 1: that because this is the type of injury too where
- 33:15Speaker 1: the sprain and the thumb it can linger quickly, where
- 33:19Speaker 1: like I feel like just the ligament damage that can
- 33:23Speaker 1: happen on fingers, it can just not heal right. You know,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you're using your hands day in, day out. Doesn't take
- 33:30Speaker 1: much for something to happen, and I think the A's
- 33:34Speaker 1: want to be really careful with Nick Kurtz going forward,
- 33:36Speaker 1: So I think it does wrap this season as a
- 33:39Speaker 1: twenty three year old doesn't turn twenty four until March.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Ninety nine games with twenty one homers, seven steals, two
- 33:46Speaker 1: fifty six three ninety six four eighty three slash line
- 33:50Speaker 1: still a one forty four WRC plus, certainly not the
- 33:52Speaker 1: heights of the one to seventy and twenty twenty five.
- 33:55Speaker 1: The strikeout rate picked up, but the walk rate was
- 33:58Speaker 1: titanic eighteen point two two percent allowed him to pick
- 34:01Speaker 1: up sixty two runs and sixty nine RBI in the
- 34:05Speaker 1: ninety nine games he played. Let me pace that out
- 34:09Speaker 1: for everybody, real fast. Just give me one second to
- 34:12Speaker 1: punch that into my calculator and I'm not doing it well,
- 34:15Speaker 1: So I will come back with that. Maybe after you
- 34:18Speaker 1: think about Nick Kurtz, what are you doing with him
- 34:20Speaker 1: going into next year? Is he creeping into the first
- 34:23Speaker 1: round for you in terms of the overall production or
- 34:27Speaker 1: is there just not enough steals, not quite enough batting
- 34:30Speaker 1: average for you to get there. And he's a pretty
- 34:33Speaker 1: solid second rounder. Maybe he's probably the top first baseman
- 34:39Speaker 1: as well.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I have him right at the beginning of the
- 34:42Speaker 2: second round right now. That's kind of where I see
- 34:44Speaker 2: him going next year. I'm I'm will be shocked if
- 34:47Speaker 2: we see him again this year. It just makes no
- 34:50Speaker 2: sense for so many angles. He's continuing to masure like
- 34:54Speaker 2: for a sophomore season to really you know, i'll say
- 34:58Speaker 2: return level. But you can see the adjustments Room made,
- 35:00Speaker 2: the fact that the walks did increase and kind of
- 35:02Speaker 2: went where. You know, you saw him in some points
- 35:04Speaker 2: in the miners being able to do some pretty pretty
- 35:07Speaker 2: impressive things from a wall crave perspective. You know, the
- 35:10Speaker 2: hard hit rate was actually stronger than it had been. Yeah,
- 35:13Speaker 2: the strikeouts were a little bit of concern. We also
- 35:15Speaker 2: battled some injuries, but none of the injuries were really
- 35:18Speaker 2: terribly concerning. This is this is one guy that's just
- 35:21Speaker 2: a healthy season away from like a fifty homer ten
- 35:25Speaker 2: Steel two ninety type of type of deal here. And
- 35:29Speaker 2: you know, as this team moves to the confines of
- 35:33Speaker 2: Las Vegas, I'm I'm really buying a lot of players here.
- 35:36Speaker 2: You know, we talk about Sacramento being nice for them
- 35:38Speaker 2: to hit in. I'm not so sure that Las Vegas
- 35:40Speaker 2: will might won't be even better for them. And what
- 35:44Speaker 2: time will tell. Maybe I don't think human door situation
- 35:47Speaker 2: is going to be there for for the A's. But
- 35:51Speaker 2: I think he's easily second round, top of the second round.
- 35:55Speaker 2: If we knew he was gonna kind of pull Josh
- 35:58Speaker 2: Naylor Steel with the slowness making everything work, he would
- 36:03Speaker 2: be sneaking into the first round for me, So very
- 36:06Speaker 2: very high in the Kurts. Still, I see nothing wrong
- 36:09Speaker 2: with it. And when you're in an OBP league, he
- 36:10Speaker 2: is probably.
- 36:11Speaker 1: First round material, Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. And I
- 36:14Speaker 1: did the calculations. It would have been like a thirty
- 36:16Speaker 1: five homer one hundred and ten RBI pace, So I
- 36:19Speaker 1: mean not quite first rounder, but I mean if you
- 36:22Speaker 1: took him where he was drafted this year, you feel
- 36:25Speaker 1: fine with where you got him, and especially I mean,
- 36:29Speaker 1: he got you this far into the season and gave
- 36:31Speaker 1: you enough volume that it didn't kill you and you
- 36:34Speaker 1: were able to fill in the lines from where he
- 36:38Speaker 1: was out during the season. But yeah, I think I'm
- 36:41Speaker 1: with you that going forward, there's still a chance that
- 36:44Speaker 1: we might see another monster season like what he put
- 36:48Speaker 1: up in twenty twenty five. Because pitchers are afraid of him.
- 36:51Speaker 1: They do respect him. That's why the walk rate is there.
- 36:54Speaker 1: And you know, if he especially if Rookers back next year,
- 36:58Speaker 1: there's a little bit more protection around him, there's gonna
- 37:02Speaker 1: be the inability to pitch around Nick Kurtz as much.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And I think he could be really solid. So yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see where his draft price settles.
- 37:11Speaker 1: But if he starts going around the one two turn,
- 37:14Speaker 1: I think it's still doable, is what I'm saying that.
- 37:17Speaker 1: But like, you got to be prepared for it if
- 37:19Speaker 1: you're gonna make that decision going in twenty seven.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, you need to draft some speed and some
- 37:24Speaker 2: average if you're gonna pull the Kurts trigger early round two.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I like that play. I have no problem with that play,
- 37:29Speaker 2: but you've got to know what you're doing doing. You
- 37:31Speaker 2: got to build the ideal player at the end of
- 37:33Speaker 2: the first round there on the turn.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, Okay. Next injury we have is to third
- 37:38Speaker 1: baseman Matt Chapman of the San Francisco Giants. He is
- 37:43Speaker 1: undergoing surgery to repair his core in a hernia that
- 37:47Speaker 1: he's been battling through. He will be turning thirty four
- 37:51Speaker 1: in April next year, and this season it wraps up
- 37:54Speaker 1: a two thirty five, three twenty four, three sixty eight
- 37:57Speaker 1: slash line. That three sixty eight really stands out. It's
- 38:00Speaker 1: his lowest slugging percentage ever in his career only in
- 38:04Speaker 1: ninety six WRC plus seven homers in eighty four games.
- 38:09Speaker 1: This is a situation where I guarantee you projections are
- 38:13Speaker 1: going to kick out a pretty nice little line for
- 38:16Speaker 1: Matt Chapman last next year, where you know, in a
- 38:19Speaker 1: twelve team league, he's probably going to kick out like
- 38:22Speaker 1: a ten dollars projection. The past couple of years, I've
- 38:26Speaker 1: been able to make do with that on Chapman and
- 38:28Speaker 1: third base because like he's usually outperformed it. I had
- 38:32Speaker 1: him in a couple spots this year, but dropped him
- 38:35Speaker 1: when he was like ice cold in May. He definitely
- 38:39Speaker 1: came back and was a little bit, you know, better
- 38:42Speaker 1: throughout the year. Let me look at the splits to see,
- 38:45Speaker 1: especially when he started to heat up, you know, June
- 38:48Speaker 1: was much more solid, and actually April in March refined
- 38:52Speaker 1: for him. It was just a terrible, terrible May that
- 38:55Speaker 1: really sunk him. Probably a little bit of the injury
- 38:57Speaker 1: that he's battling in there too. And so you're looking
- 39:01Speaker 1: at a guy, like I said, gonna turn thirty four
- 39:03Speaker 1: in April, but the projections are gonna kick out a
- 39:05Speaker 1: pretty nice number and make him look like a starting
- 39:08Speaker 1: third basement and a twelve team or next year. Are
- 39:10Speaker 1: you believing it?
- 39:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not to be Frank. I have him as
- 39:15Speaker 2: a mid road quarter infielder is where I have him.
- 39:19Speaker 2: He's not gonna hit for bating average. He's not. I
- 39:23Speaker 2: don't know what to say about his speed. He ranly
- 39:26Speaker 2: last two seasons before this one still twenty four bases combined.
- 39:29Speaker 2: This year he's did nothing, and the basically year was
- 39:31Speaker 2: before he did nothing. So I'm not sure what to
- 39:33Speaker 2: attribute that to. But he's not gonna really be the
- 39:36Speaker 2: guy that you look for that speed also from accounting
- 39:39Speaker 2: stats perspective, like that ballpark and that lineup hasn't been great,
- 39:43Speaker 2: So it's just a lot of all average all around
- 39:46Speaker 2: to your point, like he because Matt Chapman was so
- 39:49Speaker 2: good for so long from an overall you know, athletics perspective,
- 39:54Speaker 2: even went to Toronto and the glove is so amazing.
- 39:57Speaker 2: He's a better real world player than I as a player,
- 40:00Speaker 2: and I think that overshadows the ultimate end production. So
- 40:05Speaker 2: I'm generally gonna be be out in this profile. We've
- 40:08Speaker 2: seen more and more ground balls. We are seeing, you know,
- 40:11Speaker 2: a little bit more passive passivity at the plate. The
- 40:14Speaker 2: speed's not there, so as the age catches up, I
- 40:17Speaker 2: just think we're going to be looking at corner and
- 40:20Speaker 2: field at best for Matt Chapman.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and like streaming when the Giants go to Colorado.
- 40:26Speaker 2: That's fair, that's fair.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Because the other thing that is like really worrying
- 40:30Speaker 1: about this is that so the Giants have been signed
- 40:33Speaker 1: through twenty thirty, which is pretty hilarious. I think unlike
- 40:38Speaker 1: adameis En Devers, who they will try to shop, I
- 40:42Speaker 1: think a little bit more heavily again in the off season.
- 40:44Speaker 1: The way they did the deadline. I don't know if
- 40:46Speaker 1: they'll do the same with Chapman, just because one, that's
- 40:49Speaker 1: a lot of money to eat, and you're gonna have
- 40:52Speaker 1: to eat it to get him out the door. But two,
- 40:55Speaker 1: his glove is still pretty elite, and so I think
- 41:00Speaker 1: they would eat the contract in terms of letting him
- 41:05Speaker 1: play third base every day and you know, providing decent
- 41:08Speaker 1: leadership on the field, assuming you know, TC Schmidt's not
- 41:12Speaker 1: missing the balls over at first base anymore, he's parking
- 41:14Speaker 1: at him or whatever. But you know, help the pitching staff,
- 41:18Speaker 1: the young pitching staff, let them get together and just
- 41:21Speaker 1: bat Matt Chapman eighth. That, like, I think that might
- 41:24Speaker 1: be what the Giants do for two or three years.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And that will also just like kill you because if
- 41:30Speaker 1: he's doing that for one hundred and fifty games or
- 41:32Speaker 1: just grinding out whatever terrible stats he's putting up, it
- 41:36Speaker 1: might look okay at the end of the season counting
- 41:38Speaker 1: stats wise, but like it's gonna be such a ride
- 41:43Speaker 1: that like you gotta find somewhere else other than Matt
- 41:45Speaker 1: Chapman because there's gonna be zero upside. I think that,
- 41:49Speaker 1: you know, the days of the thirty Homer bat I
- 41:52Speaker 1: think are gone. The days of the two forty average
- 41:54Speaker 1: are gone, and so you're just looking at a lot
- 41:57Speaker 1: of holes in Chapman's fantasy ro tiss Rey game.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Yep, I'm with you. I'm with you.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Okay, next injury we've got, We've I mean, we gotta
- 42:09Speaker 1: We're gonna end on a trio of hamstring strains. Because
- 42:13Speaker 1: this it's kind of funny. It's usually an early season
- 42:15Speaker 1: sort of injury. But I'm also I think it does
- 42:18Speaker 1: crop up. It feels like it crops up a little
- 42:20Speaker 1: bit more towards the end of the season two when
- 42:22Speaker 1: it gets hot and players maybe not not fully hydrated
- 42:27Speaker 1: out there. So, uh, the first one, we've got Riley
- 42:31Speaker 1: Green of the Detroit Tigers going down with the hamstring strain.
- 42:34Speaker 1: The Tigers are honestly, I think they're gonna get that
- 42:37Speaker 1: third wild card, which is gonna be kind of funny.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna catch the Socks for the division,
- 42:42Speaker 1: but that wild card might be coming. If it is
- 42:45Speaker 1: the end of the season for Riley Green in the
- 42:47Speaker 1: regular season, which it could be only six weeks out.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Hamstring strains take four to six weeks, usually two seventy
- 42:53Speaker 1: three three sixty six four fifty slash line, so one
- 42:56Speaker 1: twenty nine RC plus sixteen homers and a hundred and
- 43:00Speaker 1: seventeen games. Certainly not the heights that he reached last
- 43:04Speaker 1: year with thirty six homers one hundred and ELEVENI. The
- 43:07Speaker 1: RBI is down a little bit, but that's a little
- 43:09Speaker 1: bit more team context specific around him. We haven't really
- 43:14Speaker 1: talked too much Riley Green over the years. Where are
- 43:16Speaker 1: you at with him? Especially when you're looking at him
- 43:19Speaker 1: in a dynasty keeper situation, because dude only turns twenty
- 43:23Speaker 1: six at the end of next month. He's still pretty young.
- 43:26Speaker 1: He hits the ball pretty hard, he's learning to walk,
- 43:30Speaker 1: He's got twenty five hundred played appearances under his belt.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Like he's really starting to round the corner into that
- 43:37Speaker 1: veteran approach where he knows the strike zone, he knows
- 43:42Speaker 1: the league, and he's seen just about.
- 43:45Speaker 2: All of it.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Is a situation where you think he's going to take
- 43:48Speaker 1: off or is it the situation where you're a little
- 43:51Speaker 1: bit more worried because now that the athleticism and in
- 43:54Speaker 1: fast twitch is starting to probably go on him day
- 43:57Speaker 1: by day that we might have seen the best of
- 44:00Speaker 1: Riley Green.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually I looked into Riley Green pretty recently
- 44:05Speaker 2: as I was just basically trying to figure out what
- 44:06Speaker 2: I gon do for next year in a team that
- 44:08Speaker 2: was completely tanked. And you know, I actually really like
- 44:11Speaker 2: what I see for for Riley Green. There is some
- 44:15Speaker 2: injury history. This is the guy that struggled to you know,
- 44:18Speaker 2: make full seasons, but overall, this is the guy that
- 44:22Speaker 2: bats clean up. He puts the ball in the air,
- 44:25Speaker 2: does it with authority, and is just a consistent everyday
- 44:29Speaker 2: player that's gonna rack up the numbers. And yeah, is
- 44:32Speaker 2: he gonna hit thirty six homers again, maybe maybe not,
- 44:36Speaker 2: But he feels like a legitimate thirty home or bat
- 44:38Speaker 2: that's gonna hit two seventy five, hit a home, one
- 44:41Speaker 2: hundred home, one hundred RBIs, score eighty ninety runs like
- 44:46Speaker 2: he is just gonna be a really really solid number
- 44:49Speaker 2: two outfielder all the time as long as he stays healthy.
- 44:52Speaker 2: And that lineup is getting better around him. We got
- 44:55Speaker 2: the Max Clark's, Kevin mcgonagalls, we got He's gonna have
- 44:58Speaker 2: more and more protection in that line line up, and
- 45:01Speaker 2: I actually think he's going to be kind of a
- 45:02Speaker 2: sneaky value going to next year, because the numbers just
- 45:06Speaker 2: don't look great this year, and that's more of a
- 45:09Speaker 2: volume thing, and to your point lineup context, where that
- 45:12Speaker 2: that lineup hasn't been as strong as it is it
- 45:15Speaker 2: should have been, still been decent, but it hasn't been
- 45:16Speaker 2: as strong as I think it should should have been.
- 45:18Speaker 2: So I'm buying Riley Green. I think there's a lot
- 45:21Speaker 2: to like here, and he's still so young. I think people,
- 45:25Speaker 2: you know, Riley Green was playing at twenty one. I
- 45:27Speaker 2: think people think he's like this thirty year old. I mean,
- 45:30Speaker 2: he hasn't even his time, he doesn't even his prime yet.
- 45:33Speaker 2: So I'm in.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm with you that the price was
- 45:36Speaker 1: a little bit expensive this year because he was coming
- 45:39Speaker 1: off of that mid thirties homer season, and so whenever
- 45:43Speaker 1: I was in drafts situations, I was always finding a
- 45:46Speaker 1: guy that I liked just a little bit better because
- 45:48Speaker 1: I would give him a tick down because of the
- 45:50Speaker 1: ballpark situation. But certainly I think somebody worth pursuing in
- 45:54Speaker 1: dynasty keeper situations if the price is right, all right,
- 45:58Speaker 1: next hamstring strain, we've is hitting the rookie Cooper Pratt
- 46:02Speaker 1: of the Milwaukee Brewers this one. I don't know if
- 46:06Speaker 1: any of these we've had great information on the severity
- 46:10Speaker 1: of the string, partly because all three teams, I think
- 46:13Speaker 1: are trying to keep things a little bit mum and
- 46:16Speaker 1: close to the vest as they're all in the playoff race.
- 46:20Speaker 1: But Cooper Pratt here hitting the ten day il and
- 46:23Speaker 1: after a little bit of a scuffle to start, he's
- 46:26Speaker 1: been pretty solid since the All Star Break two ninety
- 46:30Speaker 1: three forty three four nineteen slash line is a one
- 46:33Speaker 1: ten WRC, plus he has played a total of twenty
- 46:37Speaker 1: games there, so it makes it easier that you can
- 46:39Speaker 1: like multiply all these stats by eight two homers, four
- 46:43Speaker 1: stolen bases, ten runs, ten RBI. He does not hit
- 46:48Speaker 1: the ball terribly hard, and he hits it on the
- 46:50Speaker 1: ground quite a bit, but when he gets into one,
- 46:54Speaker 1: he can get into it. Because it's also it's a
- 46:57Speaker 1: funny profile because six foot four, two ten, he's a
- 47:00Speaker 1: huge dude in the box. He is like looks like
- 47:02Speaker 1: a behemoth, but he hits like Chase my drop, and
- 47:05Speaker 1: so I honestly didn't think it would work, but I
- 47:10Speaker 1: liked kind of the long term trajectory here for Pratt
- 47:13Speaker 1: because the glove is slick, is a very slick glove.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I was more interested in Pratt maybe when he is
- 47:19Speaker 1: like twenty four to twenty five, you know, get a
- 47:21Speaker 1: little bit more weight on that frame, a little bit
- 47:24Speaker 1: more muscle on that frame, allow him to learn the
- 47:26Speaker 1: league while he's cutting his teeth defensively. But I'm really
- 47:33Speaker 1: positive I think on Pratt going to twenty twenty seven
- 47:36Speaker 1: because he's shown that he can handle big league pitching
- 47:41Speaker 1: and not get the bat knocked out of his hands,
- 47:43Speaker 1: and if he can just play, I think you're looking
- 47:46Speaker 1: at a guy who I don't think the Homers are
- 47:48Speaker 1: going to be intense until he adds a little bit
- 47:51Speaker 1: of muscle and he gives through like a way to
- 47:53Speaker 1: bat training program, probably a couple of off seasons, so
- 47:57Speaker 1: I mean, I think there is upside on the on
- 47:59Speaker 1: the on the Homers. But next year, I mean, I'm
- 48:02Speaker 1: penciling him in for like twelve to fifteen homers and
- 48:05Speaker 1: like thirty to thirty five steals with a decent batting average.
- 48:11Speaker 1: That's gonna be I think a great asset with like
- 48:14Speaker 1: the ceiling is there because the Brewers, this is almost
- 48:17Speaker 1: Bryce Terrang with a bigger frame.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, there's a lot to like here, and I
- 48:23Speaker 2: think you're right. What's impressed me the most is he
- 48:25Speaker 2: hasn't looked overmatched in It's this is not like a
- 48:29Speaker 2: stat cast profile that jumps off the page with all
- 48:31Speaker 2: this crazy ex of a lot. It's not. But it's good,
- 48:35Speaker 2: good speed, good good plate approach and making the most
- 48:39Speaker 2: of everything he does. And yet guy's still twenty one.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I mean he'll be twenty two here in like six days,
- 48:45Speaker 2: so you can't say for long, but like he doesn't
- 48:48Speaker 2: look overmatch, which I think is the crazy thing for
- 48:51Speaker 2: a guy that's still, you know, so so young and
- 48:53Speaker 2: be thrust in the middle of a playoff race. And
- 48:56Speaker 2: so I think that's what comes to me. And I
- 48:57Speaker 2: actually the line you throughout there is almost exactly where
- 49:00Speaker 2: I would where i'd put him. And I don't think
- 49:04Speaker 2: he's going to get a whole lot of hype, especially
- 49:06Speaker 2: if this injury kind of keeps him out for a while.
- 49:08Speaker 2: And you know, I love the Brewers, but I mean
- 49:10Speaker 2: they're probably one playoff series and done. Just that's kind
- 49:12Speaker 2: of then in their mover the last decade, and so
- 49:16Speaker 2: I think he's gonna be a sneaky value next year.
- 49:18Speaker 2: But when you look at all these speed guys that
- 49:20Speaker 2: we try to play with, we had last year, we
- 49:21Speaker 2: had the Jacob Marzis and the Chandler Simpsons and things
- 49:24Speaker 2: like that, and this is actually what you wanted. You
- 49:27Speaker 2: want the guy that actually could hit for a decent average.
- 49:30Speaker 2: He can put a few pokes there and he's gonna
- 49:32Speaker 2: fill the stat sheet. And I think that's we haven't
- 49:35Speaker 2: seen the power of the speed guys be able to
- 49:37Speaker 2: do that. So I think Cooper Pratt's gonna be really
- 49:41Speaker 2: steaky valuable going into next year. And I think you know,
- 49:44Speaker 2: he's going to grow a lot as well, not heightwise,
- 49:46Speaker 2: He's already done plenty of that, but I think he's
- 49:48Speaker 2: gonna fill that frame. And then there's gona be a
- 49:50Speaker 2: lot of maturity that comes. And the Brewers, for there's
- 49:54Speaker 2: very few organizations I trust as much as Milwaukee, but
- 49:57Speaker 2: they have no qualms of putting him in the and
- 50:00Speaker 2: relying on him day and day out. That means a
- 50:03Speaker 2: heck of a lot to me of what this organization
- 50:05Speaker 2: believes he can become.
- 50:06Speaker 1: YEP, I totally agree. Okay, last hamstring injury that we've
- 50:10Speaker 1: got to talk about and last injury period that we're
- 50:13Speaker 1: going to talk about. Kyle Stowers going down with a
- 50:15Speaker 1: left hamstring strain, and this is going to I think
- 50:20Speaker 1: it's probably gonna wrap this season. I don't know. It
- 50:23Speaker 1: depends on what the Marlins kind of do down the
- 50:25Speaker 1: stretch and how aggressive they want to be. I mean,
- 50:27Speaker 1: the Marlins are still two games over five hundred as
- 50:30Speaker 1: we're speaking, which is nuts. But you know, looking at
- 50:34Speaker 1: the injury history for Stours and just the runway that
- 50:39Speaker 1: he's got for this hamstring injury, might not be back
- 50:41Speaker 1: in the regular season if that's the case. Pretty solid
- 50:45Speaker 1: little regular season for Stowurs certainly started late because he
- 50:49Speaker 1: didn't get off of the IL until mid April, so
- 50:52Speaker 1: he missed a couple of weeks to start this season.
- 50:54Speaker 1: So only put up ninety four games, but sixteen homers,
- 50:57Speaker 1: two forty two three twenty seven four, sixty two slash
- 51:00Speaker 1: sign one, thirteen WRC plus great counting stats, forty four
- 51:05Speaker 1: runs and fifty two RBI in those ninety four games.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Is this pretty much what you expect from Kyle Stowers
- 51:11Speaker 1: going forward?
- 51:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is. This is the profile which
- 51:15Speaker 2: is probably mid twenties power decent counting stats in a
- 51:20Speaker 2: middling average, Like I think that's exactly who he is
- 51:22Speaker 2: in the middle of not so great lineup. The only
- 51:26Speaker 2: caution I have with a guy like Stours. This is
- 51:28Speaker 2: also the kind of profile that throws a big goose
- 51:31Speaker 2: egg every once in a while because he doesn't have
- 51:34Speaker 2: a plate discipline. He's kind of free swinging, and if
- 51:38Speaker 2: we see any drop off on the quality of contact,
- 51:42Speaker 2: the whole thing falls apart. Like that's that's the big
- 51:46Speaker 2: risk with this kind of profile. There's a lot of
- 51:47Speaker 2: guys that's what britt Ricker was this year and everybody
- 51:50Speaker 2: talks about, Oh, he's just he's He's I mean no,
- 51:53Speaker 2: like he was the same guy, except for he really
- 51:55Speaker 2: struggled with quality contact and everything fell apart. And that's
- 51:59Speaker 2: what I worry about with this kind of profile. I've
- 52:01Speaker 2: invested in it too many times. There's a time and
- 52:03Speaker 2: a place for it, but you know, you gotta be
- 52:05Speaker 2: careful with this. So I like him. I think there's
- 52:08Speaker 2: value here, but I'm I'm not banking on him being
- 52:13Speaker 2: a perennial thirty home run guy that's gonna carry my team.
- 52:15Speaker 2: He's kind of the guy that I if I happen
- 52:17Speaker 2: into him, I'll throw him on my team, but he's
- 52:19Speaker 2: not the guy I'm targeting.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a good point. That is like a
- 52:23Speaker 1: house of cards a little bit, but like the cards
- 52:26Speaker 1: are strong right now. Yes, you can see it didn't
- 52:29Speaker 1: work when he was in Baltimore because the quality of
- 52:31Speaker 1: contact wasn't there. And then what happens is the walk
- 52:35Speaker 1: rate collapses, and that shows you that the league is
- 52:37Speaker 1: not afraid of him. It's switched in Miami where the
- 52:41Speaker 1: league is afraid of them. They're afraid of the quality
- 52:43Speaker 1: of contact. And that's what's driving the nine percent ten
- 52:46Speaker 1: percent walk rate. It's not because Stowurs has a good eye.
- 52:49Speaker 1: It's because the league is throwing it out of the
- 52:51Speaker 1: zone and he just can't reach some of the balls
- 52:55Speaker 1: that are too far outside the zone. So that's actually
- 52:57Speaker 1: a pretty good indicator. If you see that that zone
- 53:00Speaker 1: rate start to creep back up, or the walk rate
- 53:03Speaker 1: to creep back down on stours, that's when you got
- 53:05Speaker 1: to bail out quick because yeah, like you said, it
- 53:07Speaker 1: can collapse very quickly, and this is your classic three
- 53:11Speaker 1: true outcomes guy, like it can fall apart immediately. All right,
- 53:16Speaker 1: let's get to the fun stuff. Let's get to the
- 53:18Speaker 1: call ups. Uh, first one we've got. We've got Kayln
- 53:20Speaker 1: Culpeper coming up for the Minnesota Twins shortstop and should
- 53:25Speaker 1: stick the rest of the year. Honestly, it's kind of
- 53:28Speaker 1: nuts that took them so long to bring him up
- 53:31Speaker 1: because he was performing decently well at Triple A, but
- 53:35Speaker 1: like he had just looked ready for a while by
- 53:38Speaker 1: all the scouting reports. He was hitting two seventy one,
- 53:41Speaker 1: three sixty seven, four seventy eight at Triple A, a one
- 53:44Speaker 1: to sixteen WRC plus with fourteen homers and seventeen stolen
- 53:48Speaker 1: bases over seventy four games. He was a twenty twenty
- 53:52Speaker 1: four first round pick out of Kansas State. And I
- 53:56Speaker 1: know you've loved this profile a lot from Kaylyn Culpeper
- 53:58Speaker 1: over the years. Tell me me what really makes it
- 54:01Speaker 1: stand out for you and why you believe in Culpepper
- 54:04Speaker 1: going forward.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Culpepper is is one of those like
- 54:07Speaker 2: underappreciated guys that just does everything really really well, but
- 54:13Speaker 2: doesn't have one outstanding tool, you know, really good played approach.
- 54:18Speaker 2: The reason he wasn't called up earlier is he just
- 54:19Speaker 2: battled little nagging injuries almost every time they wanted to
- 54:22Speaker 2: call him up this year, like he ended up on
- 54:24Speaker 2: the minor league. I l but you know this guy
- 54:27Speaker 2: that walked over.
- 54:27Speaker 1: The Twins prospect So that's the rule.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Right that is that's It's funny. I was looking one
- 54:32Speaker 2: of his best conferences, like Trevor Laurnisch. I'm like, that's
- 54:34Speaker 2: not helping. But but like he hits the ball hard,
- 54:39Speaker 2: he doesn't chase it. And if if you go to
- 54:41Speaker 2: prospects of von if you get a chance and look
- 54:43Speaker 2: at his spray chart, just look at is a thing
- 54:46Speaker 2: of absolute beauty. He sprays the ball so well. And
- 54:51Speaker 2: it's not just like he's hitting you know, pulling fly
- 54:54Speaker 2: balls and hitting you know, apo little singles. Is it
- 54:56Speaker 2: is literally he's got the power across the board. He
- 54:59Speaker 2: hits uh line, drives across the board. He does amazing things.
- 55:03Speaker 2: And I think this is a really, really underappreciated profile.
- 55:07Speaker 2: And he plays good enough in the field that he
- 55:10Speaker 2: should have no problem sticking and he's gonna fill a
- 55:13Speaker 2: step statue. This is the kind of guy that easily
- 55:15Speaker 2: goes twenty twenty, hits two seventy five, and nobody notices
- 55:21Speaker 2: because he's doing it in Minnesota. So I think this
- 55:24Speaker 2: is a guy that's got the sky is the limit,
- 55:26Speaker 2: and I'm so excited that he's here. I think there's
- 55:28Speaker 2: gonna be people are gonna kind of sleep on a
- 55:31Speaker 2: little bit going next year, but I think he's gonna
- 55:33Speaker 2: put up some big numbers for rest the way here
- 55:35Speaker 2: and next year as well.
- 55:37Speaker 1: All right, let's get to our next call up. It's
- 55:40Speaker 1: also in the AL Central. We're talking White Sox pitchers
- 55:43Speaker 1: because the two big guys we've been waiting for all season,
- 55:46Speaker 1: Hagen Smith, left hander, first round pick twenty twenty four
- 55:49Speaker 1: out of Arkansas, and Tanner McDougall, right hander, fifth round
- 55:54Speaker 1: pick in twenty twenty one out of high school, made
- 55:57Speaker 1: their debut this past week. Well, McDougall still hasn't debuted,
- 56:01Speaker 1: but Smith made a debut. They've both been called up
- 56:04Speaker 1: partly because the White Sox have been going through it
- 56:08Speaker 1: from the bullpen perspective especially. I think it was last Friday,
- 56:11Speaker 1: will ven A Bowl came out in the first inning
- 56:15Speaker 1: to like thought he had another mound visit left and
- 56:18Speaker 1: it really messed up for rest of the bullpen for
- 56:20Speaker 1: like the rest of the weekend. And this team is
- 56:23Speaker 1: battling for that Ale Central Divisional title, so they had
- 56:27Speaker 1: to tap in Smith and McDougall, who've both been banged
- 56:30Speaker 1: up and before this call up. Honestly, we're both being
- 56:34Speaker 1: used as relievers down on Triple A at Charlotte because
- 56:37Speaker 1: I think they were being tuned up to be high
- 56:39Speaker 1: leverage arms down the stretch for the White Sox in
- 56:42Speaker 1: terms of bolt guys or openers or back end options
- 56:47Speaker 1: like Grant Taylor. Both have struggled with walks though this year,
- 56:51Speaker 1: which I will give them a little bit of a
- 56:55Speaker 1: pass because you'll see it in actually all the Triple
- 56:57Speaker 1: A stats for the White Sox because Charlotte is a
- 56:59Speaker 1: bay and so it's a little bit like they just
- 57:04Speaker 1: are trying to not serve up meatballs and stay out
- 57:08Speaker 1: of like Homer situations and so on top of it.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Though Smith has not had the greatest control, McDougall has
- 57:15Speaker 1: had a little bit more through the miners, but end
- 57:19Speaker 1: is projected for a little bit more going forward than Smith,
- 57:23Speaker 1: So we're gonna see little glimpses of them here, I
- 57:27Speaker 1: think down the stretch, which it might also help I
- 57:30Speaker 1: think in dynasty keeper situations maybe take a little bit
- 57:33Speaker 1: off of their price, because if whoever is rostering them says, hey,
- 57:38Speaker 1: I'm a little bit worried about these guys being relievers
- 57:41Speaker 1: long term when I thought I was having two pretty
- 57:44Speaker 1: decent top of the rotation arms, there might be a
- 57:47Speaker 1: little bit of an opening here. So what are your
- 57:50Speaker 1: thoughts here on Hagen Smith and Tanner McDougall, any interest
- 57:54Speaker 1: in them going forward in dynasty and keeper situations?
- 57:57Speaker 2: Well, it was funny. I had a Higgin Smith first
- 58:02Speaker 2: Bowman auto that I put up for auction a week
- 58:05Speaker 2: a week and a half ago, and it finished four
- 58:08Speaker 2: hours before they announced his call up. So that was
- 58:10Speaker 2: not very precipitous for me. But the reason being is
- 58:16Speaker 2: I'm in that camp that you just described, is I
- 58:18Speaker 2: think these guys are relievers. I am really concerned about
- 58:22Speaker 2: the control. And it's the same with honestly, like Noah
- 58:24Speaker 2: Schultz as well, like they I'm not sure if it's
- 58:27Speaker 2: the bandbox. I'm not sure if it's the White Sox
- 58:29Speaker 2: pitching development or lack thereof. I do think these guys
- 58:34Speaker 2: are gonna be high octane relievers and they're gonna try
- 58:36Speaker 2: to make it work because they can't quite get the
- 58:38Speaker 2: control there. And I I just don't know that the
- 58:44Speaker 2: the ability to pitch as a starter go deep into
- 58:47Speaker 2: games and kind of manage managed through and actually truly
- 58:52Speaker 2: pitch versus throw is going to be the success criteria
- 58:56Speaker 2: on either of these guys going forward. I think they're
- 58:59Speaker 2: gonna be you know, dominant out of the bullpen at times.
- 59:02Speaker 2: I think both have closure upside if they you know,
- 59:06Speaker 2: have the you know, maybe two pitches that are just
- 59:07Speaker 2: phenomenal and that's where those k rates are coming from,
- 59:10Speaker 2: and you can you can make a five you know,
- 59:14Speaker 2: five walk per nine, four walk per nine work as
- 59:17Speaker 2: a closer. There's a ton of them that I've done it.
- 59:20Speaker 2: It's just an experience when it happens. But I would
- 59:23Speaker 2: be much more intrigued if they are back of the
- 59:26Speaker 2: bullpen guys than starters.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's very fair. The other thing
- 59:31Speaker 1: that I'm worried about with them going forward is you
- 59:34Speaker 1: can already see the White Sox are teeing up twenty
- 59:37Speaker 1: twenty seven to do this. Is that, like, I think
- 59:40Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot more organizations that do this.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Is with you having like one or two days of
- 59:46Speaker 1: Detroit Tiger's pitching chaos where like you know, you got
- 59:50Speaker 1: like two or three guys ready to go three ish innings,
- 59:53Speaker 1: but then otherwise it's just mixing and matching. And I
- 59:56Speaker 1: think that's what the White Sox are kind of tuning
- 59:58Speaker 1: themselves up to do in twenty twenty seve and where
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Burke Castillo and Davis Martin are the guys that are
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: your your workhorses quote unquote workhorses. It can actually give
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: you quality starts. And then the other two days during
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: during the five man rotation are a combination of yeah,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Anthony Kay Tarner McDougall, Hagen Smith, Noah Schultz, Eric Fetti,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Trevor Richards, Jordan Hicks, like you know, those types of
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: arms where they can find value. I think by knowing
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: that these guys have bloated walk rates and can't start,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: but it'll work in these smaller stints and piecing it
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: all together. So that is I think a concern for
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: both Smith and Schultz and McDougall, all three of them
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: going forward for the White Sox as that it's gonna
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: be I think a bigger trend across the league, and
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: you've already seen it in some situations, Like I said,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Detroit's done this over the years. But I think it's
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: gonna be like out and out given strategy for a
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: large swath of teams as we get into the next
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: few years, because I think that's where modern pitching is
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: kind of going, is Hey, give me your best three
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: or four innings and we'll figure it out from there.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that's very true. That's the one thing
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: with these guys being not quite starters is that they
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: can come in and the standin' is not gonna be
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: an issue. That they can go two innings or something
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: like that, or get through the lineup once, and so
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: they could be a really dangerous bullpen if it all
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: works out.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Okay, next callup we have is in Washington. Jackson Kent,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: starting pitcher, a lefty out of Arizona in twenty twenty
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: four fourth round pick, is making his debut and he's
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: gonna stick as long as he can because they cut
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Miles Michaelis to make room for him. So the rotation
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: spot is all Jackson Kent's at this point. And he
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: was pretty solid at triple A before this call up,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: actually across two levels, so he was a double A
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: as well. He made seven starts there, thirteen at triple
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: A across both levels, a three seventy two ers, a
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: three eighty two FIP and a K minus b B
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: of nineteen point four percent with a twenty seven point
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: two percent not walk rate, that'd be terrible. At twenty
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: seven point two percent K rate eight seven point eight
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: percent walk rate, solid ground ball rate where you know,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: it's in the mid to upper forties, and by all
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: accounts has been looking good, looking sharp down in the
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: minor league. So what's your take care on Jackson Kent
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: and joining the Nationals here for the rest of the season.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm really interested to see how this one plays
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: because if you look at just you know, the the arsenal,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: he's he's really a four pitch guy of fastball, slider,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: change up, mainly the sprinkles in the curveball here there velocity.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I mean, he's a mid to low nineties guy, so
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: who doesn't really blow you away. It's more of a
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: guy that tries to spin spin the ball. He he
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: does just doesn't allow like hard contact and that's really
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: what he's lived on. It's not like he's getting guys
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: to chase and with all the time. Like don't get
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: me wrong, he's definitely held his own with from Strikehouse.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: From overall perspective, I just don't think that's gonna be
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: a calling card in the major leagues. I think it's
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: just gonna be, you know, reducing hard contact, and that's
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: really what's gonna be the carring card. But there's not
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: like any obvious weaknesses. But there's not in like, there's
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: not like one pitch that is just amazing. It's really
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: that he controls them all well. He you know, he
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: has solid movement, he locates his pitch, has a consistent
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: release point. All of those things play really really well
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: for him. So it'll be interesting to see how he
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: develops because I think he can be a decent starter,
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: but I'm not sure that he's gonna have enough to
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: really like throttle through. And I worry this is the
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: guy that, you know, second and third time through the
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: lineup is gonna be somebody that can be adjusted too.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: So I'm just interested to see how it plays because
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: it seems like he's a decent pitcher and sometimes that's
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: all it takes. But I want to see him go
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: deep into game for the Nationals and really get a
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: run the rest of the year. So I'm glad that
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: some of these young guys are getting a chance and
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: we'll get a true view of what twenty seven should hold.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Yep, I think I'm right there with you. Where certainly
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: a decent amount of upside here in Kent's arm, but
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: we'll see how well it works at the big leagues
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: and not exactly the greatest home park, so he's going
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: to have to really prove that he's going to be
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: worth rostering in twenty twenty seven. Otherwise he just becomes
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: probably like a way only streamer. But then that also
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: becomes difficult when you're going away to Philly, away to Atlanta.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: The Mets will be retooled, I would assume, and so
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: makes it a little bit more difficult in that division.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Something to keep in mind, all right, last call up,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: we have Rockies that cut in dfade Edward Julian and
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: who's coming up our boys Zach Veen outfielder and hit
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: a homer today in his debut for twenty twenty six.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: The chase rate is still tremendous. If you're on Prospects Savant,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: it is a pretty blue bar thirteenth percent tile of
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: thirty five percent chase rate in the minor leagues before
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: his call up, But dude has been torching hot since
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: the beginning of July three, twenty five, three eighty eight
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: seven twenty six slash line that's good for a one
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: to fifty four WRC plus. During that time, he played
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: twenty eight games and popped ten homers and put up
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: thirty two ribis. Obviously, it's a pretty bloated offensive environment
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: in the PCL, but guess what, he plays his home
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: games in Colorado, so it's kind of you can't really
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: pooh pooh. I think Rockies prospects that produce in the
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: PCL because like that's what they're playing at at home
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: in Colorado. So we've seen some pretty good work here
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: from Zach Viane over the past month and a half.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: It's also come with a twenty percent k rate, which
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: was kind of it's pretty low considering his chase rate,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: and we're also in prospects of vant. Part of the
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: reason he chases is because he is a classic down
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and in lefty hitter, like he loves it actually below
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: the zone, like at his ankles and he can just
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: tee off and rip it down the right field line.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Gonna work really well in Colorado, should have a full
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: time starting job. I mean currently it says he's gonna
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: platune with Jordan Beck, But I mean when you're talking
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: a guy like the ceiling of Zach Vien, the first
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: rounder in twenty twenty, I really have a hard time
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: believing that they'll not just let him run with this.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: And you know, if Jordan Beck needs to carve out
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: playing time, they'll find it in some other form or fashion.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: But as you can tell, I'm pretty excited for what
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Zach Vine I think can do down the stretch. Are
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: you there with me?
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm there with you. My biggest warriors of
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: the Rockies are going to Rockies the type of thing,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: and that like what took this long to get the
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: guy called up? Because to your point, yeah, he's a
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: free swinger, but he's done a lot better this year
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: and such a high draft pick. I mean, he was
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: putting up crazy video game numbers and to your point,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: it was the PCL, but like he was still WRC
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: plus one forty one I think in the miners this year,
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: like he was outperforming the league, you know, head and shoulders,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: and it wasn't like somebody was holding them back. And
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: so most teams. When I see this, you know, this
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: kind of prospect being held back, I'm like, Wow, they
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: know something we don't like. They know that he's gonna
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: be exploited like this the Rockies. I don't believe that
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: that's the case. It's one of the few situations there
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: and still baffles me. He's only had twelve career games
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: in the majors when he's done what he's done the
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: last two years in the minors, So I'm actually excited
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: to see what happens. I just hope that they give
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: him a chance, because I mean, how many times have
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: we had a guy in the miners that, you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I feel like, go back to like a Brendan Rodgers
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: type of type of thing, where it's like just you know,
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: destroying the ball, and they just never gave him the
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: true chance and eventually just running out, running out of
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: Colorado before he actually had a chance to do something
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: that that's my only concern, But otherwise, yeah, this is
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: an exciting bat. I was very disappointed when he got
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: called up because I've been kind of trying to grab
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: him a few places and it was too late. It
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: was too late.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I mean I think this is going to
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: be a great situation for him to settle in. And
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I mean in the off season, you know, he was
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: battling addictions and and got through that and came back
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: said he had put in forty pounds of muscle in
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: the off season, which I know if you saw those pictures,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: you saw.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: The pictures though, man I did, Yeah.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I or like that doesn't happen sort of thing. So
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: it's a little like eye raising. But I mean the
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: production has been there at Triple A. He's only twenty four. Obviously,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: it feels like he's been around forever, but he really
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: has not that like this is just the time that
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: he should be hitting the majors. And you know, came
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: out of high school, so that's why it felt like
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: he was around forever. And it has great speed upside.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: You know, the used to put up crazy steal numbers
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: taking advantage of that in the minors. But I don't
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: think he's gonna like pop fifty stolen bases again. But
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: he could do twenty five to thirty pretty easily. So
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: somebody who has a big up arrow and is gonna
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: be a really really popular pickup. Any waiver wire situations
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: this weekend all right, Well, check out those show notes
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: for the updated Baseball card release calendar. We've got a
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: few updates to go through. Today is the release of
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Panini Prism and Tops Pristine. Those are two pretty shiny
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: products that you can check out if you're into them.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: Pristine will it's gonna be a tough sled if you're
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: gonna be ripping that just because the boxes are expensive,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: and unless you're hitting a big name, you're probably not
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: getting your money back. It's one of those kind of classic,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: shiny looking sets that ends up in a lot of
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: dollar boxes, and I love picking up parallels of my
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: PC players on the che when I met at card shows.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Tops Chrome Logo Fractor, which we talked about last week,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: comes out next week on a wider release. We've also
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: got the pre order for Top Museum Collection next week.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Then everything is really kind of lining up for Bowman
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Chrome twenty twenty six coming out in September ninth. Its
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: gonna be a crazy huge set with all of the
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: rookies that are chalked into that. And then we also
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: had added to the schedule Tops Chrome Sapphire, so it's
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: coming out within probably the next month on the pre
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: order and then we'll get another release date, you know,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: about a month after that. So nice little pocket of
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: the calendar where we've got releases coming, but nothing too
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: too crazy and nothing kind of you know, bang bang
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: bang bang bang out the door. So gonna be a
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: fun little section over the next month or so for
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: us card collectors. We're gonna take a short break and
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: then we're gonna be back to make our PC picks
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: for the July Players of the Month. Stick around, everybody,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: all right, welcome back, everybody. We're gonna get right into
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: our PC picks, our personal collection picks for the POD
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: for the July twenty twenty six Players of the Month
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: in the al NL. So if you aren't familiar with
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: this practice, we do this every month and we do
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: the batter, the pitcher and the rookie from each league.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Sometimes we do mix it a reliever if we've had
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: too many repeats. But thankfully again this month we've got
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: enough fresh faces. A few repeats, but not guys that
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: we were like last year, this was just the Aaron
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Judge and show Hao Tani Show, and this year we're
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: getting a little bit more variety, which is allowed the
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: PC to expand. Has also reduced the cost. The Aaron
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Judge and show Hao Tani PC was getting pretty and
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: so if you're looking for pictures of these cards, I've
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: got them all one stop at the post on ras Ball.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Go into those show notes. You will see the link
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: that goes straight to Rasball. You'll see pictures of all
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: the cards we're talking about. If you're in those show notes,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: you'll also have a link to the entire Excel list
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: of our pod PC picks over time. And so at
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: this point we are starting to push closer and closer
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: to three hundred total picks over the years on this pod.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: It's been a really kind of fun running list to
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: see what we put in there. And we've got more
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: cards to put in here this month. So Brew, I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: know this is always one of your favorite segments that
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: we do every month. What really stands out in terms
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: of putting together this PC that makes it so fun
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: for you?
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for me, it's the opportunity to actually
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: look for unique, fun cards, because so much of the
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: card hobby anymore is about the quick flip and you know,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: hunting for the next prospect and playing that game and
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: grading everything and all. And what I think is great
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: about this PC is that we don't care about the
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: finances of it. We don't care about the economics of it.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: That doesn't matter. We care about the cards, the true
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: collecting part of it, which is so fun because you
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: get to look at unique cards. When you collect, you
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: have to pick a lane, right and like, I have
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: a lane. I go after some of the greats. I
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: go after my cardinals, like that's my lane. I like
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: certain things that ain't arena, and I try not to
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: expand it too much because it just becomes overwhelming. But
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: this lets you get out of your lane and look
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: at some other cool things that you don't typically collect.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: You know, we've had some real fun minor league cards.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: We've had some crazy relics. You've got to talk about
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: cards that you and I would never get a chance
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: to hold or touch because of the value of them.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: And it just lets us really experience the hobby from
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: a different angle. So I absolutely love that because I
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: think it truly is what collecting's about, is going after
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: the beauty of the card and not the value of
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the card. And that's what's cool about this segment. So
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: I love it. It's a fun time. I've had a few
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: of these to my actual PC over the years, and
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: I've also at times tried to add once back to
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: our virtual PC because I've sold it and regretted it.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: So what goes around comes around.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, and yeah here here that I think was
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: a great summary of why this is a fun segment.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: The other aspect to it, too, is weaving the storytelling
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: into this collection. You know, obviously it comes with our pod,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: but you know, if you are actually following this and
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: started putting together some version of this, you know, maybe
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: not some of the crazy cars that we've picked over
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: over time in terms of the one and ones and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: the other just crazy patches and autos that we've put
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: in from stars, but you know, a facsimile of that
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: card or something akin to it. It allows you to
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: also build like something that people will recognize going forward.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: You know, when I was at the National I saw
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: some collections that you know, all Hall of Famers, all MVPs,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: all say youngs. When you put together something like that,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: it becomes a little bit more of like a historical
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: story of like baseball behind it. And if you're doing
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: that with these Player of the Month awards, I think
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: it creates a nice little niche PC and that's why
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I've always enjoyed doing these over the years too. So
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: let's kick it off on the AL side because alphabetically
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: A becomes comes before N, so that's what we always do.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: We're so smart on this podcast, by the way, so genius.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: And we have a repeat here on the AL side.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Urdan Alfarez one it back in April, is back again
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: to get another Player of the Month award. At this point,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: odds on favorite for the al MVP, right, he's still
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: leaving all the Triple Crown categories and at this point
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: you've got to be stashing away any your Don twenty
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: twenty six chrome cards that you have, right.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, he's the leader in the clubhouse and I
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: think it will take a dress to rop off or
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: injury for him to not be the MVP. We you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: time will tell, but I think it's it's pretty much
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: locked in, which for Jordan to make that happen, it
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: just means he needs to stay healthy for a full
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: season and I think that's kind of what we got here.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: So kudos to him for what he's done. And we'll
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: see there's there'll be some fun cards to choose one
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: for your Don here, who doesn't actually get the hobby,
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: love that honestly that he deserves.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: No a little bit of is the the trashtros factory
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: because he was on those teams kind of, I guess, uh,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: he was barely not on the twenty nineteen really as
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: much though, because and so like, he kind of still
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: has that air around him. It happened to Kyle Tucker too,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: where like, even though it wasn't really wrapped up in
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: the scandal itself, just the the aura the Astros carried over.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: I do think it's something that Alvarez will eventually shake,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: especially once he starts getting into some lofty career numbers,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: because I think he will. He started young enough. I
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: think the hobby will come back around. And I mean,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: he's got some beautiful cards. We're going to talk about
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a couple here. Now, what is your pick to put
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: into the PC for your don after his crazy July
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I shoul I should probably rattle off the numbers as
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: to why he won three sixty four, sixty seven seven
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: twenty one slash line with nine homers and twenty two
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: ribbies in July, and it was another fantastic stretch for him.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: What card are you putting in?
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm going to go to a set that
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: I've always enjoyed collecting, which is a Tops tribute. So
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: we're gonna go twenty twenty two Tops Tribute. We are
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: going to abuse the budget a little bit here with
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: the one of one game used relic. This is the
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: actual Majestic logo that's on the jerseys. Is the actual
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: patch on this one. And the other cool thing about
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: this is from the you know, these are the ones
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: actually have the authentication stickers on the patches within the card,
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: which is pretty unique in the hobby. But this is
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: actually from the twenty nineteen World series. Now, this is
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: the world series that the Astros lost.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Yes, so you know you did a good job bearing
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: to lead here for me. But I think it's just
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: such a cool card. I wish the patch was larger
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: on it, but the uniqueness of a really quality design
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: on a card, a really unique patch. You don't see
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: a whole lot of the Majestic logos. You see the
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: MLB logos, you see the team logos, The Majestic ones
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: you don't see too often. I always love when they
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: actually have the authentication sticker onmentors you can see exactly
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: where's this from is worn in World Series games three
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: and four in twenty nineteen. So just a really classic,
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: really cool card because you connect the right to a
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: piece of history and we're not too upset that the
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Astros lost that World series. So it's a little extra
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: for anybody there that anti Astros.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Yes, great pick, Yeah, great looking card to the like
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: the wood of the Wood of Tops tribute like motif.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I love it it kind of it's a classy looking
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: wood and then they mix it with the sort of
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: almost like iphony like like angles across it. But then
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: you get the nice little kind of like marbling of
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: the Astros colors in the background. Honestly, your down looks
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: great on just about any card I ever see of him.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Just it's such a beautiful swing. It really stands out
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: in cards. So great pick. I don't know if we
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: actually have anything that's game used authenticated to the World
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Series at and our PC.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: So good.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Good to put some World Series action into our PC.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: Absolutely, All right, where'd you go with jord On?
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Well, so you picked your PC cards first today, and
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: you kind of inspired me because what your card reminded
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: me of was the Helix cards that are tops Chrome inserts,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: and the only time I believe that Jordon has been
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: in the Helix inserts is in twenty twenty four Tops
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: Chrome Update. And so that's what I've here. It's a
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: beautiful design of the popular Helix Super Super short Print
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: insert cards. So what that is is in the background,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: you've kind of got the Helix color design and they
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: match it with the team color, so you've got the
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: blues and the oranges for the Astros bleeding into a
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: little bit of like purples and pinks in the background.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: The picture I've got, it's probably it doesn't fully do
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: it justice that these are the type of cards where
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: because the Helix design has a little bit of like
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: a like a print line, but like a purposeful print
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: line on them to match the Helix design with the
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: refractor that they look just so so incredible in person.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I couldn't find one on eBay that like had a
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: decent picture. So when you're in those show notes, you'll
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: notice that this is a different link to Sports Card
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Investor than anywhere else. But that is kind of the
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: game with some of these Super Super short Print inserts,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: because people who like to put together master sets, hoover
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: them up. People who like to put together personal he
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: sees super them up. People who like beautiful cards, hoover
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: them up, and so they don't get out on the
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: market very often. If you can find one and you
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: can get it for under two hundred bucks, it's probably
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: a pretty good move, especially the trajectory of Jordan's career
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: right now, good.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Good pick here. This is just a really clean card.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: I think it is also a great thing about it,
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: just so clean. As far as the design and tops
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: doesn't usually do that very well. You see that a
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: lot with like Panini products but not being typically licensed,
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: that is a struggle as well. So this is just
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: a beautiful card to add to the PC. I think
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: he looks as very much underrated, and I just don't
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: see them talked about in the hobby that I think
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: the way that it really should be.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: All right, let's go to the n L side. We
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: have CJ. Abrams of the Washington Nationals getting into the
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: PC for the first time, winning the Player of the
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Month award in the National League, and he hit three
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: forty eight with an eleven fifty oh p yes, ten
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: homer is twenty three RBI in sixteals in twenty three games.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: He's been crazy good. For fantasy side, We've not really
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: talked about him. I mean, is he starting to get
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: into first round territory for you in twenty twenty seven drafts?
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: He is in to a degree. I just this will
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: sound bad, but I really struggle with the off the
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: field struggles he's had over the years that I just
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: I feel that there's a little bit of maturity that
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: still needs to get there for him to like meet
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: his ultimate potential, which is like that really shouldn't cause
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: like we joke about fun fantasy clubhouses and things at
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: times really shouldn't come into play. But I do for
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: him worry that he's not gonna gonna reach his ultimate potential.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: But if his ultimate potential is like a thirty to
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: fifty kind of guy, and if he does twenty thirty,
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: it's actually still first round, you know, talent. So I
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: probably still have him more of the second round right now,
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: just because I'm not sure how much I can trust it,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: and that Nationals team brings him down in so many
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: ways unfortunately, but he's still still absolute stud.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I do think that what we're seeing
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: is some of the production because he's right at the
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: ship from the kind of off the field antics. I
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: think that the casino fallout from last year was a
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: real wake up call for him. And I mean, yeah,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: if this is C. J. Abrams and he winds up
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: at a forty homer thirty stolem base one hundred and
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: twenty ribs two eighty average, I think it's going to
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: be hard to keep him out of the first round
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: next year, especially because he'll be turning just twenty six
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: in October.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: Yes, which is crazy.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: Yeah, because he has been around for a long time.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Was drafted out of high school in twenty nineteen with
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: the Padres, So that kind of opens it up for
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: your PC pick where'd you go?
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so you indicated there. I actually with the Padres
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: card here, which is kind of funny. Maybe it's just
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: a little jab at aj Preller, But I went to
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: the last year of tops Gold Label, which was twenty
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: twenty two, a set you and I both really enjoy,
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: and they had really really interesting relics that year, which
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: was the Gold Nugget relic. And so this is a
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: Topical Label prospect card. It's actually a rookie card and
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: it has an actual small gold nugget as the relic
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: within the card. It's out of five. But it's just
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: a beautiful looking card. And I'm a sucker for the
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: unique odd ball relics. I'm a sucker for the old
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: you know, back in the day they did the stamps
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: and cards. A number of years they did they did
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: the coins and cards. I don't want the manufactured stuff
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: like it as would be a real thing gold nugget
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: in it. I have no idea what the value this
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: gold nugget. Maybe it's worth more than the card, and
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: maybe that's you know, collect it and sell the gold nugget,
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: replace it with something else and can call it a day.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: But it's just such a unique card and then such
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: a cool set that we don't get to see anymore.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: You can have it for yourself three hundred bucks on
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: eBay right now. But it's just such a really unique
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: item that I had to add to the PC.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Currently gold is trading for forty four dollars an ounce.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I have no idea how heavy this little nugget of
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: gold is, but I think you're probably I don't know.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: I don't know how much. I don't know anything about gold,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: so maybe maybe not. Maybe this is like a steal.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: You could just get the card, pluck the piece of
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: gold out and make money off the gold. But it
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: is a slick card. It's a great rookie card. It
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: screams gold, gold label. The San Diego Padres have that
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: little bit of gold in their in their uniform. You
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: got the real gold in the card. You heard me
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: when we were talking the other week that I was
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: lamenting the loss of gold label because they were trying
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: to make up for it in some of the new designs.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: And this is a maybe this is another thing we
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: got to start doing for the PC is just shoving
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: as many gold label cards as we can into it.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: There's very few cards that you can say if the
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: player completely face plants, it still has value if you
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: just deconstructed yes exactly. My Dylan Carlson collection would have
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: done really really well with a lot of gold label
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: gold nuggets.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, all right, Well I went with a
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: pretty classic choice here, especially, I think we go pretty
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: classic when you it's your first time in the PC.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: But I mean with CJ. Abrams being I mean, he
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: was a huge rookie card in twenty twenty two, but
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: the majority of them are in that Padres uniform. Some
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: of the later cards from that year started putting him
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: in the National's uniform and because that is when he
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: came over in the trade for one Soto there and
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: thankfully his twenty twenty two tops Heritage high number puts
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: him in that in that Washington Nationals uniform. And I
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: picked the real one on card read inc Auto. So
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: nothing too fancy about this other than it being an
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: ALF seventy six red inc Auto that is like one
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: of the most collectible autographs of any player across the
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: board when it comes to baseball cards. So you've got
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: a well kind of squared up picture of CJ. Abrams
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: at the plate. That is this is photo shopped, I'm
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: pretty sure because if you look in the background, I
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: believe it might be from the Futures game because I
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: think that's or it might be minor league baseball action,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: but it's definitely not major league Baseball dugout uniforms behind him,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: but you do get him in the Nationals regalia. He's
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: got a pretty interesting auto, like I don't know if
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: it's great or it's bad, but it's interesting. It's got
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: a lot of swoops, a lot of swirls. You can
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: see the C, the G, the J and the A
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: and then you're slapping it all on the nineteen seventy
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: one TOPS design, which I don't really like in the vintage,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: but the heritage version of it from twenty twenty two
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: it has grown on me over the years, I think
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: because the vintage when it got beat up, it really
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: ruined the crispness of the design. But the white border,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: the little cartoon for the position, the very straightforward numbers
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: or the straightforward lettering typeface is a very clean design
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: and when you get it in a crisp mint card,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: it really pops for me. So that's where I've gone.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: Twenty twenty two TOPS Heritage Real one red Ink Auto
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: for C. J.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: Abrams. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with a red ink. We
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: feel I should go audit our PC to see how
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: many redd ink Auto Heritage cards that we have, because
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: I know we've added a handful of them and they're
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: all beautiful. This is a great card. You're right. It's
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: interesting that the actual true vintage cards of the set
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: just feel like they don't hold up as well and
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: it doesn't work look as good. But from a true
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: heritage perspective, like, this is a really nice, nice little set.
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: I'm now very perplexed trying to figure out who, like
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: where this is shot from, because it absolutely feels like
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: a minor league unless they were somehow playing the Blue Jays,
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: which that doesn't look.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: There never been anybody's pullover shirt. Yeah, for the past
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: few years.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: Trying I'm trying to figure it out, so this might
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: be the rest of my evening, trying to ask chat
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: GPT to go through and deconstruct the CJ Apron cards,
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: which is fun if you ever, if you ever want
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: to go down a rabbit hole trying to have chat
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: GBT identify cards and things like that, it's quite entertaining.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: But hey, this is a great great ad to the PC.
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: Always always love a red one real ink auto.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and or we could throw it out on Reddit too.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I know there's a guy there that always is like
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: finding the games, the action like shots, like where they're
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: coming from, and if we want to really tend them
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: down a rabbit hole, trying to find a minor league
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: game would be a fun one. Okay, let's get to
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: the pitching side. Al Player of the Month for the Pitchers,
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Dylan Ce sod the Toronto Blue Jays his second time
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: in the PC, and the other time that it happened
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: was actually from July twenty twenty four Player of the
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Month honors when he was with the White Sox. So
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: he's just a great player in July apparently as he
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: is joining the PC for the second time, it was
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: a fantastic month for him. A one era, a point
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: seven to two whip, forty six strikeouts in thirty six innings,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: pulls himself into the lead for the AlSi young, but
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I think that's probably one of the races that is
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: going to come down to the wire more than me
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: the other ones across the board. So it'll be interesting
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: to see if Dylan SE's can pull it off in
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: his first year with the Blue Jays. Like I said,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: second time, that he's going to the PC, where'd you
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: go for Dylan SE's.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, So I went with what I thought was a
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: pretty unique card which was introduced this year, which was
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: the Independence Day parallel Bear with me, the Canadian Independence
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: Day parallel for the Blue Jays, and it's just a
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: cool design. Has a nice maple around the border of
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: his tops cards. This is twenty twenty six top Series two,
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: Dylan sees his Canadian Independence Day parallel out of seventy six.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: I thought these were actually supposed to be out of
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: sixty seven, because stay eighteen sixty seven. But this is
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: I'm looking at the card, looking at the back. Ironically,
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: this one's just sold because I put it in our
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: notes yesterday and it was available, and so it just
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: sold for like sixty sixty bucks or something like that.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: But it is listed out of seventy six, which is
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: for the American Independence Day. So this is tops doing
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: what topsy his best and messing something up. But I
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: just thought it was such a cool introduction this year
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: to have the Blue Jays in the Canadian Independence Day
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: parallels rather than the American Independence did say parallel, So
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: added to the PC and also very few Dylan Ce's
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: cards out there in the Blue Jays, you know, uniform
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: and yeah, he looks like a nasty pitcher in this one.
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: He locked in and you gotta love the flow, the
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: flow and long hair here quasi molle going on for
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: Dylan Ces and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, this is a great card, our first Canadian
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: Independence Day parallel. And like you said, yeah, that was
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: the first thing I looked at, it's like, seventy six.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: That doesn't make sense. I do wonder. I guess we'll
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: kind of find out over time possibly whether or not
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: that was an error in terms of like maybe there
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: are sixty seven of these and they didn't fix the
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: printing on the back in the stamping, so that would
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: be an interesting wrinkle, or if they just if they
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: do correct this going forward with the you know, in
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: the future versions of these Canadian Independence ones, they make
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: it sixty seven instead of seventy six, then that also
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: kind of makes this card even more special, because then
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: it's like an error because they just messed up and
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: it was wrong for one year. But great, great choice.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Can't go wrong with one of these Independence Day parallels either.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Well. Well, I searched the rest of eBay to see
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: if I can find any top Canadian Independence cards out
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: of sixty seven. Where did you go, Dylan C's.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I did leave a little bit of a
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: foreshadow there with that Independence Day comment, because I also,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: like I said, you got to the PC list first
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: and put together, and so I did the mirror thing
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: when we get to the other the pitcher on the
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: inl it'll mirror the card that I chose. But when
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: I found this card, my jaw dropped a little bit
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: because you don't see cards like this very often. I
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: picked the twenty twenty tops Inception hat patch auto Rookie
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: card of Dylan Ceese. So if you're not familiar with
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: what the hat patch autos are, really, I think they're
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: only an inception from what I've kind of found over
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: the years. They did the same thing with the sock
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: patches as well, where you know there are a separate
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: patch variation. Certainly you get hats and socks in different sets,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: but like it's a very specific type of patch with
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: an inception. And this is just a big old fat
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Sox logo from the front of a white Sox black
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: home hat, well any homeand away hat slapped into a card.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: I can't tell how thick this thing is, but it's
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: got to be pretty thick because it is a slabbed
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: card and they didn't give us a great side angle
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: view of it. But if you're thinking about the thickness
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: on the front of a New Era fifty three to
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: fifty cap, like that's what you're looking at right here.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: So a beautiful card you got Dylan's he's his signature,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: and it is a sticker auto unfortunately because it's Inception.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: But you've got five rookie card with the just smattering
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: of color all around it. I think it works really
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: great with the black and white of the socks because
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: it allows everything to stay on the unbusy side of
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: the too busy line. So yeah, a fantastic card. I've
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: been looking at this thing all day, been really hard
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: not to pick it up myself.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of Inception. I think they do
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: amazing cards, especially big, big patch relics. I think what's
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: interesting about this one. There's a few years ago, and
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: I remember which year was, but tops of the manufactured
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: hat relics and uh, you know, some of like the
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: blaster boxes and those things just they popped. They were
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: very popular compared to some other manufactured relics. And so
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: now I see them this and I'm sitting here going like, well,
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: was this like it says a player warned, it's the
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: warn Yeah, they like did they just up and cease
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: like a thousand hats And he just took it on,
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: put it off, took it on from want like that
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: kind of thing versus the manufactured relic where they just
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: took a random white Sox hat and cut it up.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: But this is this is a beautiful card. I love
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: the Sox logo and this is a really really good pick.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and that is the downside of inception. That's why
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: it's always traditionally been a little bit cheaper. I mean,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: they do have some buried game use stuff in it,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: but it's like very limited, like the one of ones
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: or the bases and stuff like that. So so anytime
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: you're getting the patches, normally it's just player worn. But
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: when it's this beautiful, you can overlook that. Okay, to
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: the NL side. The pitcher Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: so lots of White Sox love here happened in July.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: It is the third time that we put Chris Sale
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: in the PC. He was in episode seventy, which was
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: the cy young that he was in twenty twenty four.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: I guess that's probably a good time to put him in.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: And the other time that we put him in was
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: in episode forty seven when he won the Player of
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the Month in May of twenty twenty four, So great
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: month from Chris Sale on the Braves. He put up
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: a two era with a point eighty one whip in
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: twenty seven innings and struck out thirty four batters just
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: four walks. He's been pinpoint. He's been fantastic. He's helping
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: me do pretty well in a few of my fantasy
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: leagues out there because the price was pretty cheap for
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Chris Sale at the at the draft costs. Compared to
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: what he's put up this year. It's been a wonderful
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Chris Sale year. And we've got the third time he's
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: going to the PC. So where'd you go?
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so you kind of you hinted this one, But
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: after I went with the Canadian Independence Day, I thought
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: it was only right to go with the American Independence
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: Day parallel and did the same for Chris Sales. So
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: we are going back to twenty twenty six Top Series
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: two Independence Day parallel. Out of seventy six, this is
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: number seventy three, seventy six. But this one, what I
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: like is the You and I have talked about the
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: design of Tops twenty twenty six, especially the base cars,
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: not really getting into the chrome versions like they they
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: were questionable. We'll just say say that the actual design,
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: but the Independence Day parallels. I feel like almost every
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: year just jump out and what's beautiful about this one?
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: Down the full left hand side of the car. You
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: have the stars, you have the blue and white stars,
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: then you have the light little ribbon that has like
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: the Atlanta and the rest is the start is the stripes,
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: the white and red stripes of the flag, and it
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: just feels like the flag is flying behind Chris Sale.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: And there is a little bit of a color match
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: with the Braves logo as well, and then the Braves hat.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: So it just works. And I just loved having these
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: two great pictures on kind of the opposite ends of
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: the spectrum of the Independence State card. So sticking them
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: with Independence Day parallels for Chris Sale.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Yep, I think it's a great, great call. The picture
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: at the back of this card has a pretty gnarly
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: piece of hair on it, So if you're a little
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: screamish towards that Rob Van ninety three twenty three, you
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: might want to you might want to update your eBay
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: listening to get rid of that. But yeah, can't go
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: wrong with these parallels. They're highly popular, and I think
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: especially if you you parrot the way that we're talking
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: about with this PC pick for July with two former
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: White Sox pictures. What great little pair together.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's absolutely fun. Where'd you as? Sale? There's so
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: many cool cards out for Gris Sale. Where'd you go?
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Well? I had to follow suit with what I did
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: on the first card of the former White Sox picture
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: by putting Dylan ce'es in a rookie patch auto card.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: So I went back found a rookie patch auto card
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: of Chris Sale from twenty eleven. Triple Threads by Tops
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: Rookie card of seventy five. The Sepia Parallel is available
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: right now for four hundred and fifty bucks on eBay.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Actually not terribly priced considering Chris Sale is gonna easily
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: go into the Hall of Fame, I think. So you're
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: talking of rookie patch auto of a Hall of Famer.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Here you got the classic swirly swirl Chrissale signature. And
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: then what I love about this The design of this
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: card is like Chris Sale is so old that his
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: rookie cards just like Scream two thousands like design where
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: like cards used to be so much less complicated looking.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I don't know exactly, it's really hard for me to
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: describe how it is, because like when you see you
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: could have taken the twenty eleven off in like the
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Chris Sail rookie and just like giving me the design
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: and we'll be like, yep, that was made in the
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: late two thousand's, early twenty tens, just because like there's
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: an era kind of effect where it happens with seventies cards,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: eighties cards, nineties cards, two thousands cards, and it's starting
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: to happen now with twenty tens cards, because you know,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: this one is fifteen years behind us. The era of
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: the design is kind of locked in, and so it's
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: going to be a while until we revisit this and
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: we retread it and it becomes retro and we're so
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: probably another ten years away from that. But I'm looking
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: forward to it because it's going to be ugly.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: You know. I absolutely love trible threads. You know, this
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: one doesn't have like the best like relic where it
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: usually it says something that just has jersey number, you know,
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: position with the for the picture. But I absolutely love
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: triple triple threads. The other like nice little funny thing
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: with this one. As you made fun of the pictures
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: on my eBay listing, I'm making fun of the ones
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: in yours because the buyer here literally just took it
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: out of their one Touch and just set it on
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: top of the one Touch to take photos and just
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: like didn't even bother to get rid of it, and
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: so like it's it's the lazy Sellar Pictures, which is
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: just absolute hilarious. It's not going to change the value
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: of the card. But you just have to love eBay
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: for all the incentricities that there are four folks out there.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: So yeah, if you're listening Dougie's Legacy Collection LLC with
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: a picture of Jesus as your profile pick, we have
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: on your pictures. Okay, let's get to those rookies. Al
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Rookie of the Month Chased the Latter from the Cleveland
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: Guardians put up a two ninety eight, three sixty eight,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: four eighty nine slash line, six doubles, four homers, fourteen
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: RBIs and four stone bases, which we like to see
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: out of our boy with two busted feet, and so
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: it's been a solid campaign for the Rookie of the
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Year for Chase the Lotter. I don't think it's going
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: to amount to a Rookie of the year award, but
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: certainly has played more than I was expecting considering some
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: of the ups and downs that he's seen. And you know,
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: he ran into a few foot issues this year too
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: and he survived it. So looking like he's going to
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: be a solid player for us going forward twenty four
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: years old, his first time joining the PC. So the
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: oyster is yours to pick from the Chase the latter cards.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel a little iggy about my pick here,
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: just to be honest, because I went away from tops
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: and went away from the licensed and I went to
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: Leaf which outside of Leaf Trinity, which we've talked about
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: a few times on here, how beautiful the patches are
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: on there. I don't know if we've added any many
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: other leaf cards to our collection. I think you may
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: have added a don at one point if I recall.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: But I went going with a twenty twenty five leaf
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: one of one of Chase the Laughter and this is
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: the the m I LB Top one hundred die cut card.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: And when I saw this one, it just harkened me
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: back to like the nineties of crazy die cuts that
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: were always like beat up to no end, like Crowner Wray,
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: AALI type type die cuts and stuff like that, And
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: this literally has the one hundred is a die cut
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: at the top of the card, and it's a ray
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: wave design, so it's got the ray wave refractor flowing
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: throughout it. And like I said, I can't even describe
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: how intricate the die cut is on this. If somehow
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: all the corners on this thing is not destroyed, it's
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: a fantastic card. I can't even see that it's not
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: licensed because there's so much color, so much refraction on this,
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: it just it just plays. It's such a fun card.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: It's in, you know, being a one on one. It's
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: only one hundred dollars, it's but it's just an absolutely
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: beautiful card, you know, knowing Leaf. I didn't look, but
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: there's probably seventeen one of one's within the set alone,
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: just the way the way they like to run. But man,
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: give me give me a nineties throwback die cut any day,
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: especially of a fun young rookie like Chase the Water.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you totally wipes your Leaf Kick from twenty twenty
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: five out of your mind, didn't you, Because this is
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: the ninth Leaf card and.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: All Leaf Trinity probably for me.
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple of them are mine. But yeah, I
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: mean you've got some like the one of one bat
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: knob from Dave Parker and some pretty big stuff. I
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: did pick. I picked a luis On Helicunya leaf card
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: if you remember that back in the day. But yes,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: I mean, even with those parameters, this is a super
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: sick die cut card. It's one hundred bucks the best offer.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: I think you could probably talk this person down from
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: it because we've talked about it before, and terms of
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the just volume of leaf one of ones, that's it's
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: kind of their their gimmick to make as many one
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: of ones as possible, so it feels like you're collecting
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: something special. But when you produce hundreds of one of
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: ones with different little variations on the refractors, it doesn't
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: hold up as much. So the nice thing here is
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: that you're not dealing with that sort of situation where
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: I do believe that this one is a little bit
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: more of a unique one of one in a good
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: way from Leaf, where it's not like there's a dozen
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: other one of one parallels. I could be wrong.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: Leaf is super great, but it's fantastic and I love
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: that the delatter on the front of the card has
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: like a cartoony feel to it. It just kind of
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: adds a nice little element of eye pop to this
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: on top of just a beautiful, beautiful die cut.
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: All right, where did you go with mister delatter here?
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Yep, this one's a little bit boring, But you got
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: to do this in the first time of the PC,
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: Like we were saying, Or went with his twenty twenty
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: two Bowman Draft first auto, but we're going with the
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: blue Wave parallel, and we've got an of nine of
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: it that I found for three hundred bucks, which honestly
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: is pretty reasonable considering the next guy talk about. It
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: is not that way when you look at his first
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: autos and Bowman, but Chase the lotter you got the
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: it's a pretty good photoshop of him out of high school.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: I believe, no, no, that will be of college. So
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: he's squared up, getting ready to bat, pretty good side
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: profile picture, solid Bowlman chrome design, and the blue wave
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: just pops. It kind of makes up for everything else.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: So you get the bit of a color match. If
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: you can find a red wave, good luck, that's probably
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: the better Cleveland Guardians match. But the nice thing is
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: he can always fall back on the blue as well.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: So the other fun thing is you don't have to
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: deal with with it being in the old Chief Wahoo
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: stuff for the old the old Indians name, so you've
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: got it all in the Guardians regalia. And it's just
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: a good clean card. And yeah, he's only twenty four
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: for three hundred bucks. This is a great pickup if
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: you're a Guardians fan.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I have to assume this is a
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: photoshop from high school. The only reason being that that
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: EyeBlack on this is the prototypical eighteen year old EyeBlack
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: where you just put a little on and just near
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: it straight down your face. Like it is absolutely exactly
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: like every high school baseball player I've ever seen. So
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: you have to love that he's got a massive sliding
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: pad in his back pocket, like he looks looks like
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: he's trying to play the part, and he does play
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: the part, so it all works together. This is a
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: great card. But some guys they're they're first bowmen's like
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: the pictures. Just like man, he doesn't look like a ballplayer.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: Chased a lot of looks like a ballplayer in this card.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: And he knows it, He absolutely knows it. So this
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: is this is a great pick. I love it.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: Okay. The last, but not least on the nlside, our
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: rookie of the Month from July was Esberlin Valdez from
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: the Pirates, and it was a crazy, crazy month because
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: he hit two fifty three, fifty five, five eighty seven
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: and swatted twenty five RBIs and eight homers. It was
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: a great, great month. It's gone ice cold for him
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: since then, so he's always got this to look back on.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: But that is who Valdez is gonna be. You were
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: talking another three true outcomes guy, maybe even just a
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: two true outcomes guy, because he's not really up there
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: to walk usually in the walks that came in July
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: were because people were afraid and trying to figure out
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: where they could place pitches against him. So we've got
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: actually quite a few Zberlin Valdez cards, which I was
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: surprised by. So where did you go?
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so I went with you. I already hit a
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: new perils introduced in twenty twenty six with our Dylan
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: Cees version, but I'm gonna go with another new parallel
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: was introduced this year in twenty twenty six. Bowmen, I'm
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: gonna go with the al NL League logo parallel. These
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: are very very rare. I don't know if I actually
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: know the print run on, but they have a really
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: killer background where it's kind of they got this glossy
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: gold esque American League logo in the National League logo
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: around the card because he's in the Pirates uniform. It
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: kind of does an interesting color match the way that
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: is playing, And that's what really really spoke to me
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: on it. I'll wait till we talk about your cards
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: to talk about why I didn't choose some other popular
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: cards of his, but it really just jumps out, and yeah,
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: there's the photo of him in this one as well.
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: It's just him absolutely looks like he absolutely just ripped
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: a homer right after the backswing here the way he's
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: just kind of looking off at the distance. So I
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: just thought it was cool to add a new rare
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: insert that we really don't get a that often into
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: the PC for as Merle and Faldoz.
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to look up to see if we
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: can find roughly a print run based on the pole
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: ability from the checklist, but I don't even know if
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: this parallel was on the original twenty twenty six Bowman checklist. Oh,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: there is it, the League logo refractor.
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: I think it's a legal refraction list for TOO two
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: forty one.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: So it's probably about one hundred of them, somewhere between,
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: like a hundred and one hundred and fifty somewhere in there,
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: so relatively rare. But honestly, there's not a lot of
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: them out there, so I don't know if they're if
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: that print run or the the odds on it were
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: slightly off. I guess it isn't hobby packs only, so
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: you're not gonna be able to find it in retail
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: or anywhere else. But yeah, it is a fun parallel.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: It's kind of it reminds me a little bit of
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: like when in cartoons when the character would get knocked
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: out and you get the birdies kind of flying around
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: their heads. It's got that vibe, but in like a
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: fun way. It really pops.
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: It's I'd love to see one of these in person
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: because it almost has like an acetate kind of look
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: to it, and I can't tell, like, is that just
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: the way the pictures taken? Is it the is it edit?
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Like what? Because this could really really pop. I'm surprised
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: I haven't seen more of these out there. Maybe they
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: just haven't been pulled to your point, like I the
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: print run my guess would be in that same range,
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: maybe one twenty five something like that. But it is
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: a very unique something and just has like it's different
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: for what Bowman typically is.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: So yeah, all right, don't I don't think it is
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: acetate by the way. I think it is a chrome,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: but it's like what it reminds me is it's you
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: know those nineties. It's like from Flear ninety maybe or
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: like Upper Deck ninety with the the holographic stickers of
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: the teams. I think, oh that Yeah, there's a little
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: bit of depth three D death to that logo.
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a good call. Yeah, I'm going to
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: be hunting for these card shows for sure. All right,
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: where do you go with Esberld Valdez.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: All right, Well, because it is the first time in
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: the PC, I went to the classic, the first Bowman
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: Chrome Auto. Although I do think part of the reason
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: these are more expensive is because even though Esmerlyn Valdez
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: has a first Bowman Chrome Auto, doesn't have a first
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome Regular that he came through in twenty twenty
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: four bowmen, and this happens sometimes where they have autos
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: of the first but then not regular cards or vice versa.
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: Is the other one that's more common where they have
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: the first of the card but no auto. But Valdez
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: is one of the players where there is the auto
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: but no base. So if you want a first Bowman
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: chrome of as Muslin Valdez, you have to get an
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: auto because I picked the yellow one to get the
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: color match with the Pirates. But it is fourteen hundred
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: bucks compared to Chase the latter, much worse player than
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: Chase the lotter. This one's raw that I found, and well, no,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: it's great, it's great to now the first picture is raw,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: but yeah, that can just that shows you like where
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: the Valdez market is off of that huge July and
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: it's gonna come down pretty classic bowman design from twenty
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: twenty four, honestly barely, barely perceptibly different from twenty twenty two.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Got the first Bowman stamp on it, and then you've
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: got Valdez squared up. You can also just tell how
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: much he's grown since he had this picture taking of
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: him probably in the DSL or the complex and just matured.
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: He's probably like seventeen years old in this photo and
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: goes on the pantheon of all time worse signatures. I
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: think he's probably improved on it since. But you do
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: see this in Bowman Chrome first sometimes, especially when you're
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: talking like seventeen year olds, where like, I mean, yeah,
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: I don't know if I knew what my signature looked
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: like when I was seventeen. You're not like signing stuff
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: that often because you probably barely have a credit card
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: if you even do, and so like, where are you
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: signing stuff? So Galdos was testing it out here in
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: his Bowman Chrome mottos, and this is a great example
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: of it because it looks like he did it with
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: a hand that was just like severely stung by a
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: million bees when he was trying to do it.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: The funny thing with this is, as I was looking
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: at what you picked, this is exactly what I searched
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: for when I first looked, I'm like, you know what,
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: I haven't done it. I won a Bowman first color match.
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: I literally typed in Bowman Auto Yellow was my first search.
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: I wanted to find something, and then I saw this autograph,
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: Like I can't do it. It's just so bad. It's
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: so bad. I'm like, I just can't. I can't have
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: any first Bowman autos from him because the auto is
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: so bad. So it really narrowed my field after that
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: with where we went. But yeah, historically bad, but the
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: over if we ignore this, actually might be the one
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: time if there was a bass I would have taken
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: the base yellowery fractor over the auto yellow refractor. The
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: auto is so bad. But hey, I'm sure he's gotten better.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: You know, he's getting a chance to sign autos all
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: the time anymore. Maybe we'll have to go on to
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: eBay and find like a sign ball form like this
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: year and hopefully hopefully it's gotten better, but still really
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: really classic pick. You're absoute right with some of these
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: young rookies. When we add to the PC, you just
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: got to get that first Bowman auto in there. You
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: absolutely have to yep.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: All right, Well, that's gonna wrap us up for this week.
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Like I said, if you want to see pictures of
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: these cards that we were describing or anything else that
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: we've discussed, going to those show notes. While you're in there,
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: get into those ras Ball subscriptions which I should have
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: probably brought up when we were talking about how to
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: win your leagues down the stretch, you want to find
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: good streaming options. The Streaminator continues to be on fire.
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: I am like regularly in my RcLs and Perts league
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: and another league that I do head to heads. All
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: I'm doing on the Streaminator every week is going in
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: and sorting by home runs. And it's worked for like
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: a month straight that the dude who is available and
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: at the top of the list on home runs on
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: the Streaminator has a hit at least one home run
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: during the week. So I don't know what voodoo magic
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: is coded into that thing by Rudy, but it works
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: crazy good. Cannot suggest it enough. It comes with a
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: ras Ball subscription as well, worth the price, especially if
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: you've got a big money league that's tight and you're
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: a little bit fu mixed by how to do streaming.
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: We've done it for you at Rasball. Sign up for
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: that in the show notes. There's a link to it.
