- 0:32Let's send it.
- 0:33Welcome to Drive Thru episode number 53.
- 0:36This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive, motorsport,
- 0:40and random car adjacent news that's meant to be slightly entertaining.
- 0:45Now let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:49We're back!
- 0:49We gotta find a song for this.
- 0:51We already did the, the Mac.
- 0:53Can't do Welcome Back, Cotter.
- 0:55So what's another comeback song, Brad?
- 0:56Isn't there like Back in a New York Minute or something like that?
- 0:59That's an oldie though.
- 1:00There was another one.
- 1:01Backstreet's Back Again.
- 1:02We can't do that.
- 1:03No, ACDC Back in Black.
- 1:05Oh yeah.
- 1:06Is that PC enough?
- 1:07I don't know.
- 1:08I don't know.
- 1:09Tell me why we don't get any cool cars.
- 1:14Tell me why.
- 1:16We're back.
- 1:17Episode 53.
- 1:19A little older, a little wiser, a little better looking.
- 1:23Are you sure about that?
- 1:24We've got faces for radio.
- 1:25I mean, come on now.
- 1:27where we get deep into the bowels of our winter recap because we have been on
- 1:32winter break for the last couple of months our last official drive thru episode
- 1:36was october then we did the holiday then we did the best of and did you get
- 1:40everything on your christmas list you've been turned to wrenches on your car is
- 1:43your car happy i got some tools on the christmas list i didn't get anything for
- 1:46the kitchen this year they gave me that stuff for father's day and but i did get
- 1:51A new set of gear wrench sockets and some new ratchets, the 120 tooth ratchets.
- 1:58They're pretty sweet.
- 1:59Three quarter inch, half inch and three eighth inch.
- 2:01Or the little guy.
- 2:02Well, I hear congratulations are in order.
- 2:04Your car is off jack stands.
- 2:05Ah, so pump the brakes there.
- 2:09Pun intended.
- 2:10It is off jack stands, but the brake pedal goes to the floor
- 2:13and then it builds up pressure.
- 2:15Before it would just go to the floor and it would continuously go to the floor.
- 2:19Then, and obviously because I changed the brake lines at the
- 2:22caliper, I needed to add fluid.
- 2:23So I put fluid in and now I pump the brakes.
- 2:25It goes to the floor once and then it comes back.
- 2:27So I need to put it back on jack stands, get the wheels off of it.
- 2:31And I just need to do a whole system flush and make sure there's no leaks.
- 2:34So that's my next step.
- 2:35You got all the breathers and PCVs and all that intake stuff done too, right?
- 2:39So the car's running again.
- 2:40Oh, the car's running really well now.
- 2:42Yeah, it runs great.
- 2:43PCVs back in the intake manifold, the intake gasket, the intake manifold, new
- 2:48gasket, new valve cover, gasket, uh, new plugs, new coils, all back together now.
- 2:54And all the suspension stuff, it's still just needs a brake flush and.
- 2:57Starting to sound like a Bubba Gump commercial there.
- 2:59Fried shrimp, boiled shrimp.
- 3:02Control arms, upper control arms, lower control arms, rear
- 3:06control arms, front control arms.
- 3:08Well, the reason I bring it up is non car enthusiasts would be like, Brad,
- 3:12bro, that decrepit old car into trash.
- 3:16You need to buy.
- 3:17Something new, if I could afford to, I would, but this old piece of shit
- 3:21isn't worth anything to anybody else.
- 3:23But me and the words of, you know, anybody that's been married for a really
- 3:27long time, it's cheaper to keep her.
- 3:29That leads us right into our showcase.
- 3:32And that's why I brought it up because a lot of us at GTM headquarters have
- 3:36older cars that we cherish and we adore.
- 3:39And we continue to turn wrenches on and you look at the stickers on these new
- 3:42cars and you're like, I don't get it.
- 3:46As we've talked about many times over the newest car we
- 3:48have is a 2019 six years ago.
- 3:51Now that was expensive looking at the prices today.
- 3:55It's like everything's doubled.
- 3:57And I know you love this.
- 3:58When I bring it up that the 2025 car buying season started in August of 2024,
- 4:06we are halfway into the 2025 sales season and things are not looking good at all.
- 4:15There's a lot of the sky is falling.
- 4:17The end is nigh.
- 4:18It's the end of the world.
- 4:19There's going to be a car market collapse.
- 4:21The industry is imploding.
- 4:23I used to be on that train the first year they started talking about it, but now
- 4:27we're in like year five or six of them talking about the car bubble bursting.
- 4:33I haven't seen it yet.
- 4:34I will say I work in finance.
- 4:36I work for a financial institution.
- 4:38I do see Delinquency and collection numbers and charge
- 4:42off numbers and stuff like that.
- 4:43It's actually a big part of my job and our auto loans, delinquencies
- 4:49have gone up slightly, but nothing like what has been predicted.
- 4:54I will say the repo men that we have that we contract with are Very, very
- 4:59busy and the lead times on picking up these vehicles has gone from like within
- 5:0430 days to like within 90 to 120 days.
- 5:07They are very busy collecting these vehicles, but maybe it's just because we
- 5:10didn't do any type of predatory lending.
- 5:13We're not in that trouble.
- 5:14Well, there's a whole lot of that going on because these cars have
- 5:16gotten to the point where you're making mortgage payments on them.
- 5:19They're so expensive.
- 5:20The video that we have in our showcase that kind of set the whole tone for
- 5:24this, this month done by a YouTuber.
- 5:27And he's apparently done shorter versions of this same thing throughout the year.
- 5:30And I feel like this was a compilation video cause it was very
- 5:32stitched together and he was kind of repetitive, but very thorough, very
- 5:36informative, and very interesting.
- 5:38He went to actual dealerships and he started walking up and down the lots
- 5:42and looking at the markups, looking at the prices, how many trucks and
- 5:46cars were still left on the lot.
- 5:48I felt like he was doing an audition for CBS Evening News because he's got
- 5:52this very Tom Brokaw way of speaking and it was very clean and, and everything.
- 5:57And so it got me thinking because there's other articles that have been
- 6:00floating around during the winter break about the market and these companies
- 6:04that are merging and CEOs that are just stepping out unannounced and whatnot.
- 6:09So.
- 6:09I want to take a deeper dive and see if the sky is really falling on this.
- 6:14So I recommend everybody watch this first video by untamed motors.
- 6:18So again, he's got a whole series of these.
- 6:20You know, I saw another video.
- 6:22Actually, it was quite popular on Instagram.
- 6:25Somebody at a car dealership was going around.
- 6:27I think he was a salesperson at the dealership and asking
- 6:30the other salespeople.
- 6:31What they were paying on their cars and keep in mind they work at the dealership.
- 6:35They probably get pretty decent pricing and maybe even
- 6:38pretty decent financial terms.
- 6:4196 month loans.
- 6:42Every single person's loan payment was four digits.
- 6:46Good.
- 6:46Can you imagine?
- 6:48No, like you were saying, that's, uh, some people's rent and that's some
- 6:51people's, you know, mortgage payments.
- 6:53But 000 for a cell phone.
- 6:58I'm not totally surprised, but still, it's just ridiculous how many
- 7:02people pay with these cards, right?
- 7:04And not to get into a political debate or a discussion about, you know,
- 7:07world economics and inflation and all this, all the bills are going up and
- 7:11actually untamed talks about that.
- 7:13He's like, insurance is going up and electricity is going up and
- 7:15this is going up and that's why everything's getting more expensive.
- 7:18And obviously the paychecks are all staying the same.
- 7:19The markups, which we've talked about Bullshit that they
- 7:25add to the price of the car.
- 7:27And you look at an F one 50 best selling vehicle in the world, as we've reported
- 7:33before, when he goes up and down the line at the dealership, I don't know
- 7:37the difference of the trim packages.
- 7:38I'm just not that into it, nor do I really care, but the point is.
- 7:42Entry level F 150.
- 7:43I'm sure you can get the two seat, no cab, long bed, basic work truck for 35, 000.
- 7:51And that's the argument people are going to make, but that's
- 7:53not what people are buying.
- 7:54People are buying these as family haulers.
- 7:56And then there are the folks that just use them for work.
- 7:59And when you look at the price spectrum, they're anywhere from
- 8:0250 to over 100, 000 for an F 150.
- 8:06Let's not even talk about the Rams and the Chevys and the Dodges and all
- 8:09the other trucks that are out there.
- 8:11And it's like, these vehicles are designed for all of us, you know,
- 8:15not like a special class, like you're buying a Ferrari or a Porsche,
- 8:18you have a certain demographic.
- 8:20That's going to buy that.
- 8:21That's going to be interested in, have the liquidity to be able to do that.
- 8:24Or maybe it's aspirational.
- 8:25Let's just leave that where it is, but a truck's a truck.
- 8:28You're going to use it for work and haul stuff, maybe on the farm or just
- 8:31because you want to go to the mall and that's fine, but they've priced
- 8:35everybody out of the market because even somebody with a lot of money is
- 8:39going to go 100, 000 for an F one 50, but see, you're missing the point.
- 8:44Am I?
- 8:44Or at least part of the point.
- 8:46So these trucks, they're big, they weigh a certain amount of weight, you know,
- 8:49with government tax write offs and you, the way you depreciate them, a vehicle
- 8:53that meets in a certain criteria, you can take the full write off of its
- 8:57depreciated value in one hit, which lowers your taxable income, which then ends
- 9:03up putting more money in your pocket.
- 9:05So they buy it, has the company bankroll it and cashflow it.
- 9:10Then they depreciate it, which reduces their taxable income,
- 9:12and then it reduces what they owe the IRS at the end of the year.
- 9:15It must be nice.
- 9:16I guess everybody and their brother in the United States has an LLC now, so
- 9:20they can do this kind of thing, right?
- 9:22Like, I don't get it.
- 9:23I think that's what a lot of these people are doing.
- 9:24These tradesmen, people that buy trucks every year, every two years,
- 9:29you know, replacing their F 150 that's only got like 50, 000 miles on it.
- 9:33Granted 50, 000 miles in two years is a lot of miles, but you know,
- 9:35they're replacing it with something brand new because they're taking
- 9:37the tax right off each year.
- 9:39What the government is doing, and I have bear witness to this myself
- 9:43in the greater DMV area, right?
- 9:45The DC metro area.
- 9:46You notice that they've changed the way they're issuing the registration
- 9:51and the license plates now.
- 9:52And so they've readjusted what you pay for your tags based on the weight of
- 9:56the vehicle, which is a very European.
- 9:59Way of doing things.
- 9:59So they do that in England and other places, the bigger the vehicle is, the
- 10:03heavier it is, we're going to impose this like road tax it now it's become
- 10:08a luxury that you drive a 9, 000 pound Hummer or cyber truck or whatever it is.
- 10:13That just makes total sense.
- 10:14And if you think about it, I don't know if you remember back in the day, I don't
- 10:17know if it's still a thing or not, but.
- 10:18Back when in the early 2000s and before there used to be a luxury tax
- 10:24on vehicles that were purchased over, I think it was like 35, 000 or something.
- 10:28Yep.
- 10:28There was an additional on top of the sales tack and additional luxury tax.
- 10:33They can't have that now because that's the normal price of a vehicle now.
- 10:37Yeah.
- 10:37Unfortunately, you know, to register your minivan.
- 10:40In the greater DC area, get ready to fork over 600 bucks when it used to be 150.
- 10:46It's absolutely insane what they're doing.
- 10:49And so every time we turn around, it's getting worse.
- 10:53Insurance is going up.
- 10:54Cost of cars are going up.
- 10:55And then the funny part about what Antin was talking about, he goes, the
- 10:58used market was crazy during COVID.
- 11:00We know that, but actually that has sort of right sized itself, and he was
- 11:05talking about, here's a XYZ Expedition with the Black Knight Mohawk package that
- 11:11it comes with, and like, all these bells and whistles, and he's like, I bought
- 11:14the exact same truck used, two years old.
- 11:16And it's like a third the price, the sticker price on the dealer lot.
- 11:21He's like, just buy one used.
- 11:23I would do that too, especially something low mileage or whatever, but it's insane.
- 11:27The people that are taking out these six, seven, eight plus
- 11:30year loans on 100, 000 truck.
- 11:33And the stupid thing is only worth a third.
- 11:35They're only thinking about the cash flow.
- 11:37Can I afford the monthly payment?
- 11:39It's absolutely insane.
- 11:41Some of these other ones on here, and we're gonna go through some
- 11:44of the major manufacturers that are sort of in this mess and have
- 11:47gotten themselves into a pickle.
- 11:49One of them being Ford.
- 11:50And the headline reads, Ford EVs struggle to continue in this rapidly
- 11:55deteriorating market conditions.
- 11:57Oh, again, the sky is falling.
- 11:59Let's be real.
- 12:00Who wants an F 150 Lightning?
- 12:02It costs more than a F 150 V8.
- 12:06And are you really going to save money on the electricity long term?
- 12:09I get it.
- 12:10We're saving the world and all this kind of stuff.
- 12:12But we've seen the tests.
- 12:13They can only tow so far.
- 12:15They can only go so far.
- 12:16Yeah, you can recharge your house on them or whatever, but Is it worth it?
- 12:20Yeah.
- 12:20If I wanted to pick up truck that was like a car simply just because I like
- 12:24the pickup truck design and I wanted to pick up truck, okay, yeah, I'd consider
- 12:28one over, you know, some of the other electrics out there, it's got space, it's
- 12:31got cargo capacity, whatever, but to use it like a truck for truck things, no.
- 12:37Exactly.
- 12:38Well, and to your point, if you want a truck bodied.
- 12:41Vehicle to have that truck feel because that's what you like to drive.
- 12:44What's wrong with a Maverick?
- 12:46And then maybe let's make it a hybrid because it already comes with
- 12:49that anemic four cylinder anyway.
- 12:51Well, the Maverick size wise isn't big enough.
- 12:54Flag on the play because the Maverick is the size of an old F 150 from a
- 12:57couple generations back, which we all know back then, economy of scale.
- 13:02It was huge, but now it's tiny.
- 13:04It's like a S10 in comparison to the stuff that they're producing, that
- 13:08they're all the size of freaking barges.
- 13:10As someone who is a, you know, and I quote, as someone has told me many
- 13:13times, I'm a very large human being.
- 13:18I appreciate the extra space in some of these vehicles.
- 13:22And my reality is I don't fit in a Maverick.
- 13:26I don't fit in the older F 150s.
- 13:28I don't fit in those vehicles.
- 13:31Bigger vehicles accommodate me better.
- 13:34So that's what I'm going to look at, except for a GTI.
- 13:36I will drive a Volkswagen hatchback because they accommodate me too.
- 13:40You got that bubble car.
- 13:41So it's all good.
- 13:42But Ford, they got the F one 50.
- 13:44Okay, great.
- 13:45But then they've decided to do the Capri and then these other ones,
- 13:49which are rebadged Volkswagen's.
- 13:51Why are you taking this gamble?
- 13:53On somebody else's product, which isn't really selling that
- 13:57great in their own portfolio.
- 14:00And you want to take that on and try to sell and compete against that.
- 14:03To me, it doesn't make sense to me.
- 14:05They're cheating and it's not working out for them.
- 14:08If you want to build a good electric vehicle, do it from scratch,
- 14:12engineer it, build it yourself.
- 14:14Come up with something innovative.
- 14:16EVs are supposed to be the next level technology.
- 14:19You know, the future, make it look like that, make it dramatic, make
- 14:23it something that people are going to want to buy, not just a rebadge.
- 14:26Like you're saying a Volkswagen, the Capri looks like a Polestar.
- 14:30Looks like a this looks like a that.
- 14:31I mean, none of these vehicles are particularly eye catching or good looking.
- 14:35They're overly priced.
- 14:36They're trying to cheat.
- 14:37And then they're suffering because people realize, oh, well, this is just the same
- 14:40shit just with a different front emblem.
- 14:42I'm glad you brought that up cars that look like other cars
- 14:44that look like other cars.
- 14:45That brings us to Chrysler.
- 14:47Who announced that they're halting production of the airflow.
- 14:51You remember the airflow?
- 14:51We talked about that, you know, midsize SUV thing.
- 14:54We're like, Ooh, something new from Chrysler, other than just a
- 14:57bread box on wheels, AKA minivan.
- 15:00And they've decided now we're not going to do that anymore.
- 15:02Oh yeah.
- 15:03It looks like a lifted Chrysler 200.
- 15:05With a shooting break back end, it looks way better than the 200.
- 15:09It's not bad looking.
- 15:10No, it's not at all.
- 15:11I was really interested in this when they first announced it.
- 15:14It has very Germanic styling to it.
- 15:17I mean, like you said, like a pole star or an ID for the Capri, they all
- 15:21kind of look the same, but I'm like, here's another one down the drain.
- 15:25That could be a result of the fact that there's still no CEO.
- 15:29It's the way it is.
- 15:30No, I don't know.
- 15:31So one other thing to add to the Stellantis.
- 15:34Mess is a DeDoy moment to quote you.
- 15:37Brad Jeep has come back and said that maybe they overshot with
- 15:41their pricing on the Wagoneer.
- 15:43Maybe nobody wants to spend 150, 000 on a three row Jeep.
- 15:47I was looking at this actually, not this article, whatever I don't read.
- 15:51So, but I was looking into the Wagoneers because I see a lot of
- 15:54them in my neighborhood and I'm like, they can't be all these people paying
- 15:58six figures for a Jeep Wagoneer.
- 16:01Right.
- 16:02What I found, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, the
- 16:05regular Wagoneer is in the 60s.
- 16:08So, similar price to a Suburban, Tahoe, Sequoia, vehicles of that ilk.
- 16:13The Grand Wagoneer is where you get into the Range Rover pricing and
- 16:16stuff like that, which I have not.
- 16:17seen a lot of grand Wagoneers.
- 16:19So I actually do feel the standard Wagoneer pricing is actually pretty
- 16:24decent given what the competition is.
- 16:27The grand Wagoneer, I think is probably shooting for the stars
- 16:31and not really landing on the moon.
- 16:33That one I could, I could see it should be cheaper, but the
- 16:36regular Wagoneer, I think is fine.
- 16:37If we're talking about EVs real quick, one that I have seen a lot of.
- 16:42That I'm very impressed with in person, and I really, really like it.
- 16:45And if I was in the market for an EV, I would totally consider getting one.
- 16:49Is the Cadillac, uh, what's it called?
- 16:51The, the derelict, the
- 16:56lyric.
- 16:57I've seen several of them in person and I think they are awesome looking.
- 17:01I love the weird quirky Citroen styling that they do have like
- 17:06a very classic French styling.
- 17:08And I just think they're really awesome looking cars for the EV market.
- 17:11Different.
- 17:11That's for sure.
- 17:12I mean, not everything has to look like it came out of the Jetsons, you
- 17:16know, all the stuff that Toyota is producing, where you're just like,
- 17:19you just make it look normal and then put it in electric power plant in it.
- 17:23I don't know why nobody's caught on to that.
- 17:25But speaking of Toyota, a company that we've talked about multiple times that
- 17:29doesn't have, but whatever that BR4X RAV4 electric thing that they came out with,
- 17:36just to say they have an electric, an all electric, they bet the farm on hybrids.
- 17:41New CARB rules have gone into effect where by 2026, so we're talking
- 17:46next year, well, actually this summer, if we go by sales, right?
- 17:51So by August, September of this year, when they're producing 2026 models
- 17:54that have to comply with the new CARB 2 rules, California and the 12 or 13
- 18:00other states out of our great 50 states here in America that abide by the CARB
- 18:05rules are saying, Not practically zero emissions or, you know, all the PZEV and
- 18:10PHEV and all those acronyms are out there.
- 18:13They're talking ZEV, Zero Emissions Vehicles, earlier than expected.
- 18:18And Toyota's like, dude, what?
- 18:20This is impossible.
- 18:22There's no way.
- 18:23As a Toyota person, when I've got two Toyotas in my fleet, I love my Tundra.
- 18:27It's been flawless for the last seven years, uh, and I'm expecting
- 18:31the van to be very similar.
- 18:33Anybody that's got a new Tundra or a new Tacoma will tell you Toyota
- 18:38is looking at a bunch of recalls and issues with major components like the
- 18:44Tundra's twin turbo motor is blowing up and grenading themselves, the
- 18:48Tacoma's transmissions are grenading themselves, Toyota uh, Can't really
- 18:53afford to invest in the EV market right now because they've got to fix all the
- 18:57issues that they have with these trucks.
- 18:59No, they got to pay for kazoo racing to go to Formula One.
- 19:03Well, yeah, let's, let's talk about that for a minute.
- 19:07How much is that going to cost?
- 19:08Come on.
- 19:09I don't know.
- 19:10I guess they're hoping that, you know, if they get the constructors
- 19:13championships or points from that.
- 19:15More people are going to buy Tundras.
- 19:17Come on.
- 19:18I mean and even the price of tundras has gone up a lot like they're 60 70
- 19:23plus thousand dollars when they were the more reasonable by but you had to
- 19:27convince somebody not to buy a ford or chevy it's like dude look at the toyota
- 19:31like seriously look at a toyota and now.
- 19:35They're just as expensive as someone who actually went through that exact scenario.
- 19:40When I was looking for a truck, I was looking at the Ford, the Chevy and
- 19:44the Toyota, the Fords and the Chevys consistently priced in the fifties.
- 19:48And then even with the 10, 000 of the dealerships were throwing back at people
- 19:52and rebates and stuff just for fun.
- 19:54It seemed like you go in, you never pay sticker because he
- 19:57comes back with a 10, 000 rebate.
- 19:59I still got the Toyota for mid thirties.
- 20:01And it does everything that I needed to do.
- 20:03It did everything the Ford and the Chevy did.
- 20:05And I've had it for seven years with zero problems.
- 20:08We've been talking about pickup trucks a bit because they are some
- 20:11of the best selling vehicles in the U S and we've mentioned Ford.
- 20:15We've mentioned Chevy.
- 20:16We mentioned Dodge Rams or just Ram now, and then the Toyota Tundra.
- 20:20But we forgot one, right?
- 20:21Another manufacturer of full size pickup trucks, Nissan.
- 20:25We didn't forget Nissan.
- 20:26Nissan forgot themselves.
- 20:28I think Nissan forgot everything.
- 20:30What is going on over there?
- 20:32For those of you listening at home, if you haven't heard this yet, I don't
- 20:36know where you've been, especially if you're a car enthusiast parent company.
- 20:40Renault also involved in this debacle is looking to divest
- 20:44Nissan and sell it to Toyota.
- 20:48Again, kazoo racing, the Tundra recalls, and now they're going to buy Nissan.
- 20:52What are they doing?
- 20:54It sounds like they've gone full Volkswagen.
- 20:56Dude, this is unreal.
- 20:57Nissan.
- 20:58What are they losing?
- 20:5970 percent year over year.
- 21:01They've slashed production.
- 21:02They laid off 9, 000 employees.
- 21:05I don't know.
- 21:05That doesn't seem like a big number to me for an auto manufacturer.
- 21:08I don't know why.
- 21:09And then we can talk about infinity.
- 21:10I mean, people still buy those like really inside of this mess.
- 21:14Is the fact that Renault has controlling stock in Nissan.
- 21:18They bought them back 20 plus years ago when the 350z came out.
- 21:22Right.
- 21:22So it's, we're going that far back in time.
- 21:24And so Renault has been involved and then Nissan had acquired Mitsubishi.
- 21:28And we all know how well Mitsubishi has done in the last.
- 21:30Ever so the DSM days are long gone.
- 21:35Oh my God.
- 21:35And talking about Mitsubishi, they haven't made a cool car since the Evo.
- 21:39When did that stop production?
- 21:40Like 2012, 2015, 15 years ago.
- 21:44Well, they make that Lancer across whatever the hell that thing CV is.
- 21:48It's awful.
- 21:48I reiterate, they, they haven't made any cool cars in a really long time.
- 21:51But that being said.
- 21:53Nissan's like this money pit and we talked about it before how exciting
- 21:56it was when the 400, which again, the Z, a lot of people just call it
- 22:00the Z, but let's call it the 400.
- 22:01The Zaltima.
- 22:02So the Z was coming out and it's like bargain basement price
- 22:05and still nobody bought them.
- 22:08And we spotted one over the holidays.
- 22:10My wife was like, what is that?
- 22:11I said, that's the Z, that's the car I kept talking about.
- 22:14That's the car I am still interested in purchasing, but I don't think
- 22:17you can get one if you tried.
- 22:19And at this point, Nissan's probably fire sailing those cars.
- 22:22If they do have any of them, are they fire sailing them?
- 22:25Or can you not find them?
- 22:26If you're interested in buying a 400 Z, then I think you should.
- 22:29I think we need a segment where Eric talks about how he's
- 22:32going to try and buy a 400 Z.
- 22:34And then we want to hear the answers of buying the Z.
- 22:36That was like all of 2023.
- 22:37What are you talking about?
- 22:38We already covered all that.
- 22:39No, but that was before it came out.
- 22:40Then you saw it in person and you're like, meh.
- 22:43That front end, it's we, yeah, whatever, we'll get into that.
- 22:46Maybe I am speaking out of both sides a little bit, but my point is this.
- 22:50They struck gold with the fact it's a twin turbo, six cylinder, proper
- 22:55grand tour, because I can't call it a sports car because we saw the test
- 22:59and how it all panned out against the Zupra and everything else.
- 23:02It's a nice car and for 50 grand, compared to a lot of other things
- 23:05you can buy for 50 grand, if you're an enthusiast, it's like, don't
- 23:08walk, run to the Nissan dealership.
- 23:11And buy one.
- 23:12But here's the deal.
- 23:13They're losing money hand over fist.
- 23:14As Tanya has always said, they just make one car.
- 23:16It's the Ultima.
- 23:17They stretch it and they crunch it and they elongate it and
- 23:20all those kinds of things.
- 23:21Toyota's like, yeah, bro, we're gonna bring you on board.
- 23:24But there's a couple stipulations.
- 23:26And this is where I started laughing because I'm digging into these articles.
- 23:29And Toyota's like, All right, Nissan, we'll bring you in to the family if you
- 23:34can make yourself profitable by 2026.
- 23:37How?
- 23:38They haven't been freaking profitable forever.
- 23:40What they need to do is change the name from Nissan to Ultima Motor Company.
- 23:44Go back to Datsun.
- 23:46And just, yeah, everything, everything's an Ultima.
- 23:48And then, yeah, they just rebrand every car to Ultima.
- 23:51The Ultima Sport, the Ultima Touring, the Ultima Econ.
- 23:56And we know some people that had.
- 23:58Titans, the big Nissan full size pickup that competes with everything else.
- 24:02And it just, it couldn't compete with everything else.
- 24:05And they had transmission issues and like you're talking about with Toyota.
- 24:09I'm going to call BS, but I'm going to reserve the right to keep my opinions
- 24:13to myself about that particular issue.
- 24:17But that particular truck at this time, I have a feeling I know
- 24:21where you're going with that.
- 24:22There's a lot of lead.
- 24:25Yeah.
- 24:25What did Jeremy Clarkson say about fuel economy?
- 24:28It's all about how you use the right pedal.
- 24:30Yeah.
- 24:31Same kind of thing.
- 24:32The sky continues to fall.
- 24:34Prices are out of control.
- 24:35We've got cars still sitting on dealership lots because chips or whatever, you
- 24:39know, cars are sitting on dealer lots because they're too fricking expensive.
- 24:43Nissan's in dire straits.
- 24:44Toyota, they got their own issues and doing Formula One and everything else.
- 24:48And then Volkswagen.
- 24:49Oh boy.
- 24:50Volkswagen, our favorite, our absolute favorite.
- 24:52And the CEO from the U.
- 24:54S.
- 24:54decided during winter break, he just quit.
- 24:57We're done.
- 24:58And I was reading into it and it wasn't like when they got rid of
- 25:00the guy that designed the ID Buzz.
- 25:02They're just like, yeah, we're done with you.
- 25:05Nope.
- 25:05They're just like, this guy just left.
- 25:07That's it.
- 25:07On his own recognizance, he just quit.
- 25:09So then they took the guy who was the head of HR for Volkswagen of America,
- 25:13put him in charge until like December.
- 25:15And now the new head of VW USA is the former CEO of Porsche North America.
- 25:23And he was in that role in 2020.
- 25:25So the beginning of COVID, and then he left and went to Rivian
- 25:28and then he left Rivian in 2023.
- 25:30So now the guy that was in charge of Porsche North America is in
- 25:33charge of Volkswagen North America.
- 25:35I don't think it's going to make a damn bit of difference because
- 25:37of the ID buzz is still 63, 000.
- 25:39Can you imagine a Volkswagen minivan?
- 25:4263.
- 25:44I mean, it's on par with other electrics out there, isn't it?
- 25:48Isn't the pricing on par with what electric cars are costing?
- 25:51That thing should be 40 grand and a hybrid, but I'll
- 25:54leave that part where it is.
- 25:56I agree.
- 25:57I agree.
- 25:58So right now, if the van Is 63 grand, that is the most
- 26:02expensive Volkswagen in the fleet?
- 26:04I guess it is, I guess it would be.
- 26:05So the ID Buzz is Volkswagen's flagship.
- 26:08That's what they're hanging their hat on right now, is that two tone breadbox.
- 26:11Something tells me the VW bus in the 60s was not the flagship of VW.
- 26:17Oh, you don't say?
- 26:19Where's the Beetle again?
- 26:20It's still being produced in Mexico.
- 26:24So the Passat's gone, they don't make a wagon anymore of any kind.
- 26:28I don't even count the Alltrack, I think those are all left over anyway.
- 26:31So then, Golf is sorta still around, the Golf R, we went into
- 26:36that whole debate last year.
- 26:37So if the Golf R is not the flagship, the hot hatch, the van is, so we've
- 26:43talked about how the Golf was gonna be over 40, 000 and you guys were like,
- 26:47nah, there's no way, there's no way.
- 26:49And the Brits had already reported that the prices of the Golfs were going up.
- 26:52When you look at the lineup, it's not very deep.
- 26:54If Porsche guy, coming from the 9 11 mentality, goes, golf should be flagship,
- 27:01how much is the golf gonna cost?
- 27:03Or are they gonna have to bring the price of the van down?
- 27:05Well, I don't necessarily think flagship means the most
- 27:09expensive vehicle in the fleet.
- 27:12VAG world, though.
- 27:14Look at the Phaeton.
- 27:15Look at the A8.
- 27:16I don't know if that necessarily is the definition of what a
- 27:18flagship vehicle should be, though.
- 27:20What else would it be?
- 27:21The most iconic, most recognizable vehicle.
- 27:23The vehicle that everybody, like, you look at and you know, oh my
- 27:26god, okay, that's a Volkswagen.
- 27:28Okay, we'll apply that philosophy to VAG.
- 27:31With the example of Porsche.
- 27:33So if the most iconic car, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, in the
- 27:36lineup, nine 11, nine 11 is the most expensive one they have hands down.
- 27:41Well, yeah, that's one use case.
- 27:43So the GTI is the nine 11 of VW.
- 27:47So 80, 000 for the Golf R.
- 27:49And what doesn't mean that it has to cost 80, 000.
- 27:52It just means that that's the.
- 27:54car that they're hanging their hats on according to the interwebs, a
- 27:58flagship vehicle doesn't have anything to a cost, but it is the vehicle in
- 28:02the lineup that embodies the best that the automated car stands for.
- 28:06Thank you, Tanya.
- 28:07I think that's exactly what I was trying to say, even though I
- 28:09wasn't as eloquent as Tanya was.
- 28:11They're usually high performance models, which can translate the cost.
- 28:15Of course, you're paying for the technology and the engineering.
- 28:17The design is.
- 28:18Striking, usually, or expressive, usually have better technology in them.
- 28:24And then in terms of volume, it's a higher volume line.
- 28:30So by that definition, then the ID buzz is the flagship of Volkswagen right now.
- 28:34It's got better technology.
- 28:36It should be higher volume than the golf R if that's the 9 11 of Volkswagen.
- 28:41That is a finite niche market of people that buy that compared to the
- 28:45people that should be buying the vans.
- 28:47Sorry.
- 28:47It's size, not volume.
- 28:49So I guess the physical size, it's the largest car in the automaker's
- 28:52lineup, then it's ID buzz done.
- 28:54But it's usually the car that represents the best of an automaker's capabilities,
- 28:58which I've seen the interior and the ID buzz, and I've heard other people say it.
- 29:01It's not that nice.
- 29:02Well, then I would say the golf, the golf bar is the flagship
- 29:05of the Volkswagen fleet.
- 29:06We'll put a pin in this for now.
- 29:08Mark my words, the Golf is going to get more expensive.
- 29:10It'll get more expensive, but I don't think it'll be
- 29:1280, 000 to beat the ID Buzz.
- 29:15Unless they come out with a GT3 RS equivalent.
- 29:19They have it in Europe.
- 29:20It's the GTI Club Sport.
- 29:22Yeah, but that's a race car.
- 29:24That's basically, it's specifically for racing.
- 29:26Can you say Volkswagen has a flagship?
- 29:29It used to be the Passat.
- 29:31Yeah.
- 29:31And I think that's another point.
- 29:32Like not every auto manufacturer has a flagship.
- 29:35Flagship would be like an a eight L rolls up or an S class, but I
- 29:41don't think it was Passat either.
- 29:42Maybe it was the fate.
- 29:43It was the Faden when they had it.
- 29:45And then the, the twa, the twa wag, the twarg, the twa wag, stupid name.
- 29:52Well, anyway, ID Buzz, 63, 000, my mind is still melting over
- 29:57the price every time I see it.
- 29:58I think you have to have two flagships if you're talking electric
- 30:00vehicles, because an ID Buzz is so radically different than a Golf,
- 30:04you could almost have two flagships.
- 30:06According to Eric, Volkswagen's flagship EV then is the Ford
- 30:09Capri because it's the same car.
- 30:14What a mess.
- 30:15Welcome to the global economy.
- 30:16Since we're still speaking of Volkswagen, do we have to, I mean, they need to
- 30:20get their heads out of their butts.
- 30:21Talk about the entire automotive industry needs to get their
- 30:24heads out of their butts.
- 30:26Well, did you hear about the data leak for VW?
- 30:28This one's pretty bad.
- 30:30I know all about VW leaking.
- 30:31Well, yeah.
- 30:33Tell us more about that.
- 30:34Headline reads massive Volkswagen data leak exposed 800, 000 EV owners.
- 30:41Movements from homes to brothels and everything in between.
- 30:45Big Brother is watching.
- 30:46I feel like that title is clickbait.
- 30:48Isn't it though?
- 30:49But if you read on, it says sensitive information about Volkswagen, Audi,
- 30:53Seat, and Skoda EVs was left exposed and unprotected in a misconfigured
- 30:57cloud storage system for months.
- 30:59Why are they tracking the cars?
- 31:02This is the kind of stuff that's going to kill the automotive industry.
- 31:06So Volkswagen is not the only company that's doing this.
- 31:09If you remember what Lizzie was saying, I don't know if she said it on air, but when
- 31:14we were talking to her about the Lexus Nexus network and how all cars, I did some
- 31:19research and yes, my Toyota, all Toyotas from like a certain year on send driver
- 31:25data and vehicle data back to Toyota.
- 31:29As well.
- 31:30Now what they're doing with that data, I'm not sure, but it does say
- 31:32like movements, speed, breaking, you know, all kinds of information.
- 31:37Volkswagen is not the only car manufacturer that's doing this.
- 31:39I think it's an industry wide issue, a privacy issue, that
- 31:43nobody seems to be talking about.
- 31:45So what's the endgame here?
- 31:46Is it all to invalidate your warranty?
- 31:48Because what else would they want to collect your driving behavior data for?
- 31:53That's why insurance costs are going up.
- 31:54Insurance companies are looking and said, Brad, it looks like you went 90 miles an
- 31:59hour on Sunday, January 22nd or whatever.
- 32:04Because of that, we're raising your insurance rates to XYZ dollars
- 32:08a month or something like that.
- 32:09I feel like that data is being sold to somebody.
- 32:12That's why the trickle down effect, all this just going up.
- 32:15There you go.
- 32:16It's being sold to something because data is king right now, but doesn't
- 32:20necessarily mean it's being sold.
- 32:21Although it probably is also going to insurance companies.
- 32:25And there's a social engineering aspect around all this too, because imagine
- 32:29someone's tracking you go from your home and you go to Starbucks and then you
- 32:32go to McDonald's drive thru and then you go to the whatever grocery store.
- 32:35Oh no, then you stopped here and oh, you stopped there.
- 32:38There's a whole slew of things this data could be used for and
- 32:40people that could be buying it.
- 32:42So even outside of the insurance company thing, it's like the marketing
- 32:45loys when you're scrolling through Facebook or something like that.
- 32:49And you're going to start doing targeted campaigns and suddenly
- 32:52your little infotainment screen in your car or something is going to
- 32:54start suggesting like, Oh, Starbucks has a sale on caramel macchiatos.
- 32:59Pumpkin spice latte seasons here.
- 33:01You know?
- 33:02Waze already does that.
- 33:03It's been doing that for years where you're driving and because it knows where
- 33:07you are, obviously it's a navigation app.
- 33:09If you're driving by a Dunkin Donuts, sure enough pops up in your Waze app.
- 33:13Dunkin Donuts is right here.
- 33:14They've got a sale going on, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:17And it's like, no, just tell me where the cops are.
- 33:19And then it's just like anybody who's seen, well, I can't remember if it was
- 33:23iRobot or Minority Report, Black Mirror, that too, but there was a specific movie.
- 33:27I can't remember if it was when Tom Cruise was walking into the police station or
- 33:31something, but you walk past the stores and everything and the screens pop up and
- 33:35it say, Hey, you know, this is on sale.
- 33:37You, we know you bought this last month.
- 33:39You, you want this, you know, it goes into exactly what Tanya is saying.
- 33:42There's too much information on everybody out there and it's being used nefariously.
- 33:48It is.
- 33:48And I don't even want to get into a discussion about cybersecurity because
- 33:52that's my day gig and nevermind.
- 33:56I will just say, stop using Chrome.
- 33:57That's all I'm going to say.
- 33:58Really?
- 33:59Yes.
- 34:00I'll just leave it at that.
- 34:01Anybody who knows me or follows me on the social media or whatever.
- 34:06There's a reason I don't post anything about my kids at all.
- 34:09I think there's maybe one or two pictures of my kids anywhere on
- 34:13Facebook, maybe the metaverse and it's of the back of their heads.
- 34:16That's it.
- 34:17You will never see my until they're old enough to make
- 34:19that decision for themselves.
- 34:20They will never be on social media.
- 34:21So on this whole bent of the end is nigh, the sky is falling.
- 34:25It's all coming to a collapse, not to be outdone.
- 34:28We would be remiss if we didn't include Tesla in this mess.
- 34:32For those of you that took a winter break like we did and you're tuning in right
- 34:35now, we did do our best of this year and it was time to do Tesla again because
- 34:40we always do Formula One and then we do Florida Man and all that fun stuff.
- 34:43So we did the Cybertruck thing and that was, I think that was a great episode.
- 34:47But you know what?
- 34:48The news of the Cybertruck just never seems to stop.
- 34:52Ever.
- 34:52And I don't want to continue on that treadmill.
- 34:55I want to like stop talking about Tesla going forward.
- 34:59It's our New Year's resolution.
- 35:01We're never going to talk about Tesla ever again.
- 35:03I don't want to give the air time anymore.
- 35:07I thought this next one was pretty damn hilarious.
- 35:11Tesla is buffing foundation series badges off of Cybertrucks
- 35:16to sell them as regular trucks.
- 35:18Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
- 35:20Come on.
- 35:21So what does that tell us?
- 35:22It tells us that the foundation series truck is literally just a badge.
- 35:29Well, duh.
- 35:29You paid for early adopter badge engineering.
- 35:32Yep, a vinyl that they put on there that says foundation.
- 35:36That's terrible.
- 35:37And at the same time, Tanya, you were telling me about this diverting people
- 35:42and personnel and resources and things to other parts of the Tesla line.
- 35:46Cybertruck sales are down.
- 35:48They can't sell them.
- 35:49The markups that people were buying them and trying to sell them for over a hundred
- 35:53thousand dollars, that's all falling flat on people's Faces glad I didn't
- 35:57buy one of those stupid things, right?
- 35:59And then the sales are down and so they're going okay Well, people are still
- 36:03interested in the Model Y so we'll make more Model Y's now I do see a lot more
- 36:06Model Y's on the road than anything else.
- 36:08I've gotten used to the way they look to So I had a very similar thought and
- 36:14I was even talking to my wife about it and I was like, you know If the
- 36:17Model Y was made by anybody else, I would actually consider picking one up.
- 36:22Well, I mean, it looks like Volkswagen's Capri or an Airflow.
- 36:26So they're all the same.
- 36:27It looks, looks like, yeah, a Ford Chevrolet Volkswagen.
- 36:30So at the end of the day, here we are, all these manufacturers are having issues.
- 36:35A lot of manufacturers have bet the farm on EV.
- 36:37EV sales are down.
- 36:38Tesla is just one example of that, but you're seeing it across the board.
- 36:42We said it once, we said it a hundred times.
- 36:44They needed to go hybrid.
- 36:46They needed to follow Toyota's lead, but Toyota was left
- 36:50backed into a corner by itself.
- 36:52And again, now it's suffering because of these carb rules and everything else.
- 36:56Hybrid was the answer.
- 36:57And I think it always has been, despite lack of manual transmissions and all those
- 37:01other things that as enthusiasts that we'd love, which they found ways around that.
- 37:05Now too, with hybrids, which I think is actually really, really cool.
- 37:08Are you talking about the scout at that?
- 37:10Car's never coming.
- 37:11Don't even get me started on that thing.
- 37:13They're taking reservations.
- 37:14I almost put one in.
- 37:15I almost, here we go again.
- 37:17Oh my God.
- 37:18Did you not learn the first time?
- 37:20The point is we're halfway through the sales year and it looks like a
- 37:24downward slope all the way through the summer because the cars are committed
- 37:29for this year and we got these new car rules like we mentioned that are
- 37:33going to force the manufacturers to change yet again and I think we're
- 37:35going to see more cars disappearing.
- 37:38Not because people are buying them up, but because those models cannot support
- 37:43whatever this next generation is.
- 37:45So I think there's going to be sort of a bloodletting across the industry.
- 37:48And that's really the collapse.
- 37:50That's such a good word, bloodletting.
- 37:52I thought that was such a great word to use to describe what's going on.
- 37:56It's not necessarily that these companies are going to fall apart.
- 37:59There's always still mergers and acquisitions happening because there's a.
- 38:02Graphic that I'm including with the show notes, the shows sort of the larger family
- 38:06hierarchy of companies, and there's really only maybe 20 car companies total, then
- 38:11people be like, well, what about this?
- 38:12What about that?
- 38:13But they're all part of the same conglomerate.
- 38:15So you have to look at the heads of those families.
- 38:18And so there aren't that many car companies anymore.
- 38:21There is a collapse coming, but it's not the way it's being portrayed
- 38:24from a financial perspective.
- 38:26It's a change in the way they're going to be building these cars
- 38:29the next 10, 15 years, which I'm still concerned for our kids.
- 38:34What the hell are they going to be driving five, eight years from now?
- 38:37It's just, I don't know.
- 38:38My kids are going to drive something that we're going to talk about later, rather
- 38:42than put 50, 60, 000 into a new car.
- 38:45Let's import a car from 25 years ago.
- 38:49Ooh, that's.
- 38:50Yeah, I like that idea.
- 38:51Let's come back to that.
- 38:53Let's close out this showcase.
- 38:55It is not the end of the world, despite all the YouTube videos
- 38:58and everything that's out there.
- 38:59My only piece of advice is if you have something that
- 39:02you like and you have it now.
- 39:04Keep it.
- 39:05Because it's cheaper to keep her.
- 39:07Just like you were saying earlier, right?
- 39:09I feel like that's going to be the tagline for this episode.
- 39:12Cheaper to keep her.
- 39:13That's the episode title right there.
- 39:15Yeah, that and cheaper to keep her and bloodletting.
- 39:20Mercury in retrograde.
- 39:24So let's get back to our regularly scheduled ranting and raving.
- 39:28We got to go back to Volkswagen for a minute because I want
- 39:31to play the sad trombone.
- 39:33I want to play taps here because 34 years of old.
- 39:38Awesomeness have come to a conclusion.
- 39:41The final VR six was assembled and rolled off out of the factory.
- 39:47Was it an ID buzz?
- 39:48No, it was in an Atlas.
- 39:50I'm very sad about this because the VR six.
- 39:52Okay.
- 39:53Well, Volkswagen fan boy propeller head mirror.
- 39:55It is one of the coolest engines.
- 39:58Ever engineered.
- 39:59Go research it.
- 40:00We wrote an article about this a couple years ago about the VR and the W and
- 40:05it is an engineering masterpiece to put a six cylinder in the space of a four
- 40:11and make the kind of power that they were making and continue to expand the
- 40:14displacement without losing any geometry in any space to the point where 3.
- 40:196 liters In something that's the size of a four banger making 300 plus
- 40:24horsepower naturally aspirated with a sound that is unlike anything else.
- 40:28It's a sad day for enthusiasts that the BR 6 is gone.
- 40:31But the upside of that is there's plenty of spares out there
- 40:35because they made millions.
- 40:37Of VR6s over the last 34 years.
- 40:41So if you're looking to swap it into something, it's like a 2JZ.
- 40:44It's like an LS.
- 40:45It's like top five motors that you would do a swap with.
- 40:49So the VR6 is just absolutely incredible.
- 40:51But again, sad day.
- 40:53I'd love to see it come back, like the Beetle.
- 40:54I don't want to see it come back.
- 40:56What?!
- 40:56Not because I don't love it, but because I have one, and I want it to remain special.
- 41:01So I want it to not come back and just stay in what we already have.
- 41:05I have two myself, and I want another one, but we'll get into
- 41:08that at another point too, you know?
- 41:09I mean, I would have no problem driving an Atlas.
- 41:11That would be a pretty cool daily driver.
- 41:13Speaking of other things ending in Volkswagen, and I thought we reported
- 41:16about this back during COVID, there was an article from the Audi Club.
- 41:20About the TT was finally ending its run as well after 25 years of production.
- 41:27And I'm like, the TT has been dead for a while.
- 41:29Production numbers were terrible.
- 41:31They sold like 300 of them last year.
- 41:33How many years in the future do you think it's going to take for
- 41:36them to sell the very last Audi TT?
- 41:39Five years from now, it's 2030.
- 41:43We're going to do a second Audi sold one, 2025 TT.
- 41:49In 2030, that could very well be the case as a TT owner, I am sad
- 41:54to see this TT out of production.
- 41:56Now I wasn't always a fan of every version of it.
- 41:59Some of the more blocky styles that came later, it's like take it or
- 42:03leave it when they came out with the RS with the five cylinder turbo,
- 42:06absolutely incredible car in there.
- 42:08That's Audi's GT three right there.
- 42:10Would you say it's a flagship?
- 42:12No, no, not an Audi's portfolio, but the Carmen Ghia, I mean, the TT, it's
- 42:17sad to see it go, but just like the Beetle, I'm amazed that it's stuck
- 42:22around this long because two doors are going the way of the dodo bird.
- 42:25And again, their sales numbers were too low to keep it going.
- 42:29And not only that for the money, cause TT's.
- 42:32When the RS came out, the gen two, those were already 70, 000 with all the fees
- 42:36and everything else for 70, 000, you're going to go buy something else, something
- 42:40with even better performance, you know, the 400 horse that it was allegedly
- 42:44making, you can get 400 horse out of a Mustang for half the amount of money.
- 42:48It wasn't a contender.
- 42:49It was a boutique car in a way it was stylish.
- 42:52It was a statement.
- 42:52Like you want it to look cool and show up and go, I got something different.
- 42:56You show up in a TT.
- 42:57Okay, it's not a 911.
- 42:58It's not this.
- 42:59It's not that.
- 43:00It's not a tearjerker like the VR 6 going away.
- 43:03I will say my neighbor, someone who recently moved into the neighborhood
- 43:07within the last year, all of a sudden I was driving by this house
- 43:10and I looked over and there's a white TTRS sitting in the driveway.
- 43:15They've got a three car garage.
- 43:16I was curious as to why the TTRS got the driveway.
- 43:19And it's because they've got a GT3 RS in the garage parked next
- 43:23to their Cayenne, but I haven't seen the TT RS in a couple months.
- 43:27And I recently I saw the guy driving around in one of the new Continentals.
- 43:31So I'm wondering if he got rid of the RS for that.
- 43:33The small car too.
- 43:34It's not for everybody.
- 43:36No, no, it's not.
- 43:37You know, they're really pretty cramped.
- 43:38Yeah, we need to go back to the drive through notes.
- 43:41And look up the last time we actually had Mercedes Benz or BMW news, because
- 43:48this section of the drive thru notes has been TBD for as long as I can remember.
- 43:54We talked about that stupid BMW car, the changes color.
- 43:59The paint shifting, whatever.
- 44:00And then that car that was like came out, it was like an avatar and it
- 44:03was talking to people or whatever.
- 44:04But that was like a year ago.
- 44:06I can't remember since then any Mercedes or BMW news that we found noteworthy.
- 44:12Is there anything?
- 44:13No, there's nothing exciting to talk about.
- 44:15They don't make anything that really gets anybody's attention.
- 44:17Well, that, that I don't, I don't believe that's true.
- 44:20I follow this account on Instagram.
- 44:23It's good.
- 44:23The guy's basically a general manager of a Mercedes dealer.
- 44:26And they're constantly talking about G wagons that they can't.
- 44:28I can't keep in stock and they make cool cars, AMG GTs, anything, AMG, you know,
- 44:34the G 63 AMG BMWs has got the M cars.
- 44:37We never as enthusiasts, for whatever reason, we just never
- 44:41find any of their news noteworthy enough to put into the show.
- 44:45And I was just curious as to why the only thing I came across over the winter break
- 44:49that was noteworthy for BMW was some guy is now 3d printing replacement front ends.
- 44:55For the big grill cars.
- 44:56And I was like, Oh, that's pretty cool.
- 44:58But that's it.
- 44:59That's all there is to talk about.
- 45:00Well, I wanted to throw that out there.
- 45:01I find it kind of interesting if any of our listeners, any of our two listeners
- 45:05want to go back and look and tell us what the last episode was, if we actually
- 45:09talked about new Mercedes and BMW news, I would be very curious to hear about that.
- 45:14I read something else.
- 45:16that said that BMW is going to get rid of the competition thing and they're going to
- 45:20go back to their original badging so that an M is an M and not an M240 and to get a
- 45:26real M you had to get the M competition so oh my god we're reverse badge engineering
- 45:31now I love that probably because all the people that wouldn't want an actual M car.
- 45:35They're so mad that this Joe blows, uh, Sally homemakers
- 45:39driving around in a two 40.
- 45:40I am X, Y, Z telling people that she's got an M car.
- 45:45And she's like, no, that's not an M car.
- 45:46That's just a two series.
- 45:48We all had leftovers during Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner.
- 45:51You know, you probably made ham sandwiches for two weeks, but you know
- 45:54who else is going to have leftovers.
- 45:55It's always going to be Dodge.
- 45:57We're going to find a brand new Dodge Dart in 2030 along with that TT.
- 46:01But I couldn't believe this article from Jalopnik.
- 46:03I can't believe most articles from Jalopnik.
- 46:05These numbers are astonishing.
- 46:08It's, it's crazy.
- 46:10So enlighten us, Brad.
- 46:11The article reads, Stellantis sold over 78, 000 cars.
- 46:15Their production ended before 2024.
- 46:17Zombie cars.
- 46:18Dead cars.
- 46:19Not to be confused with like the zombie race teams, you know,
- 46:22zombie cars and NASCAR or whatever.
- 46:24This is completely different.
- 46:25But yeah, the cars production ended before 2024.
- 46:28And yet they still sold these cars in 24 and it's 43 percent of their sales.
- 46:33Ridiculous.
- 46:35Our old Dodge darts.
- 46:36Look, Oh my God.
- 46:37Yes.
- 46:38This is amazing.
- 46:38One Dodge Dart was sold.
- 46:40We reported on that Dodge Dart.
- 46:42Two Dodge caravans and then 5, 295 Chrysler 300s.
- 46:47I don't know who the hell bought those cars.
- 46:49They sold a bunch of chargers.
- 46:50No one Viper.
- 46:52And then they're throwing the Jeeps in here.
- 46:54What is the Ram ProMaster City?
- 46:56Is that that van?
- 46:57Yes.
- 46:57The Ram Van.
- 46:58That little like Mercedes Sprinter thing.
- 47:01Ram Van.
- 47:02If somebody has a Ram Van and they don't have the license plate Ram Van,
- 47:05you're doing yourself a disservice.
- 47:07Ram a lam a ding dong.
- 47:09Dodge again will continue to sell dead zombie cars for the next 100 years.
- 47:14So I'm not really worried about that.
- 47:15But I just think it's hilarious.
- 47:17And it goes back to what we were talking about in the showcase with all those.
- 47:20Cars still sitting on dealership lots.
- 47:22I bet you can pick up a brand new 2023 something that hasn't sold
- 47:27yet because it's been sitting there forever, but that's okay.
- 47:29I feel like they should go back and alter the financials for these years.
- 47:33For 2023, they sold 5, 295 more cars.
- 47:38They should retroactively go back and fix the financials.
- 47:42Look, our sales are great.
- 47:43Now our business cycle is five years still wouldn't help Nissan.
- 47:47So it doesn't matter.
- 47:50I got a Nissan.
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:51So Chevy's in the news continuing on with domestics.
- 47:54They're recalling the Equinox.
- 47:57Because it's too quiet.
- 47:59Isn't that what we all have been pining for?
- 48:01Isn't that what we all wanted?
- 48:02Were these super quiet approved by the Swiss government Hoover Matic
- 48:07whisper EVs, like now we're recalling them because they're too quiet.
- 48:11Did it say in what direction it's too quiet?
- 48:13It says a specific alert sound for the driver is too quiet and the
- 48:18drivers aren't able to hear it.
- 48:19You know what really grinds me?
- 48:20This really pisses me off.
- 48:21Okay.
- 48:22The sound for the pedestrian alert is too quiet.
- 48:26You know what other thing alert, you know what else alerts you to pedestrians?
- 48:31Your fucking eyes or the pedestrian screaming.
- 48:37This is an alert for the driver to know that there's a pedestrian,
- 48:41not for the pedestrian to know that they're being stalked from behind,
- 48:45like a mountain line in the woods.
- 48:47I don't know.
- 48:48I just read the beginning of it.
- 48:49I think it's both because I read that the vehicle was too quiet.
- 48:52So it's like the silent killer.
- 48:54Okay.
- 48:54Yeah.
- 48:54So there's the pedestrians can't hear him.
- 48:56You know, I don't care.
- 48:58Pedestrians.
- 48:59Here's a public service announcement for you.
- 49:02Stop walking in the road.
- 49:03Take some personal accountability.
- 49:05If you see a car coming, don't step out into the road.
- 49:08I.
- 49:09Went to South American country, seeing how drivers treat pedestrians in another
- 49:14country is wild compared to what goes on here in the U S I mean, here we
- 49:18cater to the pedestrians so much stop signs everywhere, crosswalks everywhere.
- 49:23When I went to Bolivia after that, you're lucky if you don't get hit,
- 49:27you're standing on the sidewalk, the way those people drive.
- 49:30So take some personal accountability, have some situational awareness.
- 49:34Look around, head on a swivel and don't get hit by a fricking car.
- 49:38Why must you continue to curse in church?
- 49:41Why
- 49:43? We are just gonna go down a rabbit hole with this, so
- 49:45let's go down a different one.
- 49:47Let's keep going.
- 49:47Let's keep, let's just, let's peel back this onion.
- 49:49Let's see where it leads.
- 49:50Is this could be good radio.
- 49:51We have some two wheeled news.
- 49:53Yes.
- 49:53So in the motorcycle world, the groundbreaking trailblazing.
- 49:59First female road motorcycle racer, motocross racer, and
- 50:03a bunch of other accolades.
- 50:05Recently inducted into Hall of Fame, Mary McGee passed away at the age of 87.
- 50:10It's a sad day.
- 50:11I want a VR6 as my tombstone, I'm just saying.
- 50:14You don't pay attention when you're walking down the road,
- 50:16it might be your tombstone.
- 50:18Might be right on top of you.
- 50:20What is a VR six tombstone?
- 50:21Is that like six tombstones?
- 50:24Narrow angle tombstones.
- 50:27And when you look at it from the front, it looks like a tombstone,
- 50:30but when you look at it from the side, it's six little tombstones.
- 50:36Oh, that's terrible.
- 50:37I need somebody with a 3d printer to mock this up and create a VR six inspired.
- 50:43Tombstone, it will be brilliant telling him speaking of brilliant.
- 50:46Let's talk about EVs and concepts.
- 50:48This breaks my heart because this is never coming.
- 50:51We've talked about variations of this car before, and Renault is busy
- 50:56dealing with the debacle that is Nissan, as we've already mentioned.
- 51:00And here they are talking about.
- 51:02The Renault five turbo three E 500 horsepower rear wheel
- 51:06drive hot hatch homage.
- 51:09Bless.
- 51:09I want one of these, but they said they are putting it into production,
- 51:13so they'll make it, but they're never going to sell it in the U S.
- 51:1625 years from now, they will.
- 51:17They'll never make this is just like the R.
- 51:2118 and all those other cool cars that they've been like teasing us with.
- 51:25They're not going to make this.
- 51:26They're not just start saving up your money now.
- 51:30And in 25 years, you'll be able to buy and import it.
- 51:33This is so cool.
- 51:35Renault, you hurt me so much.
- 51:37So did you guys see on discord?
- 51:39I posted that thing about the Twingo with the semi automatic transmission.
- 51:43I thought you were going to go somewhere else with the semi automatic.
- 51:45No, I did not see.
- 51:46It's the wildest thing.
- 51:48This reminded me of it because, you know, French cars are quirky and this, that,
- 51:51and I have an affinity for French cars.
- 51:53That's why this pains me so much, but the Twingo, I've never really
- 51:57paid that much attention to.
- 51:58I always thought they were super cute.
- 51:59They're very iconic, you know, with the happy little eyes, like
- 52:02it was a Dodge neon or whatever.
- 52:03And the fake me out little turbo induction grill on the
- 52:06hood that doesn't do anything.
- 52:08But apparently neither does the manual transmission
- 52:10because it only has two pedals.
- 52:12And it changes gears by basically granny shifting it for you.
- 52:17Almost like an SMG where it's changing gears and whatever.
- 52:20It's absolutely wild.
- 52:21It's over on our Discord and I'll post it in the show notes.
- 52:24How did we not know about this?
- 52:26This car is like 20 plus years old and it's just bizarre that somebody
- 52:30would create and take the time to build a semi automatic like this
- 52:35versus something with like, let's say paddles or whatever have you.
- 52:38So anyway, Brad, you've mentioned it a couple of times.
- 52:41Talking about waiting for cars to get older and importing those cars and
- 52:44you were talking about how your kids are going to drive something older.
- 52:47I've been thinking about that myself.
- 52:48One of our favorite internet influencers, I'm going to be nice about this,
- 52:54straightening up my tie as I say it.
- 52:55It was a real challenge listening to him talk in the video.
- 53:00I swear he's on something.
- 53:01It was really hard.
- 53:02It was bad because I'm so used to James Humphrey just screaming the entire time.
- 53:07Right?
- 53:07Up to speed!
- 53:08Alright!
- 53:08Alright!
- 53:10Alright!
- 53:10That's everything you need to know!
- 53:11I think you need to know!
- 53:12About the VR6.
- 53:13Uuugh!
- 53:14Like all his videos are the same!
- 53:16And they drive me nuts!
- 53:18Every once in a while there's a gem in the mix.
- 53:21But apparently, he's not a donut anymore, he's over at Speedco or whatever it is.
- 53:26And he's also lost a ton of weight, apparently he had a heart attack.
- 53:29Like there's a whole bunch of turning points in his life, I guess, that's gotten
- 53:32to him is sitting in what looks like a Barco lounger in his garage, lean back.
- 53:36Eating the microphone, doing sweaty balls.
- 53:39It was so awkward to watch him because I was waiting for him to
- 53:42start screaming like he always does.
- 53:44I agree with some of the stuff that's on here.
- 53:46Tell us about this list, Brad.
- 53:48Yeah.
- 53:48So basically the United States has a 25 year rule for vehicles that
- 53:53were not sold in the United States.
- 53:56After they've been in production for 25 years, or their production date
- 53:59was 25 years ago, you can import them without any sort of special testing
- 54:05or requirements or anything like that.
- 54:06They're basically allowed to import in the United States.
- 54:082025 means that cars manufactured in the year 2000 and earlier are now
- 54:14eligible to be imported into the U.
- 54:16S.
- 54:17The year 2000.
- 54:20I've been trying to do that.
- 54:23Yeah, I love Conan O'Brien.
- 54:24Okay.
- 54:25Yeah for some of us There's a lot of really really cool stuff that has now
- 54:30become available for import and the video basically just highlights What
- 54:34he feels, you know are worth thinking about importing, but he is comparing
- 54:38them to the skyline r34 That's sort of like the pinnacle and then there's
- 54:42all these other cars That you could consider instead, and he makes a valid
- 54:46point because the R34, if you've got 250, 000 to spend on it, there's a lot
- 54:51of cars plural that you can buy for that kind of money in the same age range.
- 54:56So he lists the top 15 or 16 cars in that same demographic.
- 55:00So I, like you, I honed in on some really, really cool stuff, which actually I hadn't
- 55:05thought about as a gray market import.
- 55:08I'll start off by saying Renault Sport Clio V6.
- 55:12That's a de doy.
- 55:13Anybody that's ever played Forza knows all about this car and how amazing it is.
- 55:20And that's right at the top of my list.
- 55:22But I'm going to kind of do a round robin and just pick three cars, maybe not even
- 55:27on this list, but just three cars from the year 2000 that you would import.
- 55:32So pick a car year 2000.
- 55:35You're 2000 and go.
- 55:37Did they make a Fiat Panda in 2000?
- 55:40Of course they did.
- 55:40Of course they did.
- 55:41Are you sure?
- 55:42I think Tanya needs to import a Fiat Panda.
- 55:44Well, why would I import a 2000 Fiat Panda?
- 55:47I can import any of them.
- 55:50That's true.
- 55:50Get the OG for cheaper.
- 55:51All right.
- 55:51So who wants to go first?
- 55:52I want to stick to the list.
- 55:53Cause I, I really honed in on these.
- 55:55Cars.
- 55:55Cause then I have to really rack my brain about non U S availability
- 56:00cars from the year 2000.
- 56:01And that's how even wider catalog.
- 56:03And there's some stuff in there.
- 56:04People are gonna be like, what I feel like we need a, what should I buy
- 56:07episode just for this particular topic?
- 56:09What should I buy?
- 56:10Gray market is definitely coming.
- 56:12Not red light district.
- 56:13Great market.
- 56:14Yeah.
- 56:14So let's just stick to this list right off the bat.
- 56:17I mean, I think we all agree on the Clio Sport.
- 56:19We'll just say, okay, that's a given.
- 56:21But if I gotta pick three more off of this list Then you gotta pick two more.
- 56:24Well, we all agreed on the Clio Sport.
- 56:26Then that's everybody's one.
- 56:28No, no, that's your Hall Pass.
- 56:29We are all getting a Clio Sport and then three other cars.
- 56:32So what are the other three?
- 56:33I agree with these terms.
- 56:35Okay.
- 56:35All right.
- 56:35Working backwards, I really like the Vauxhall VX220.
- 56:39I think that's cool because that's a really cheap Elise and that's a good deal.
- 56:43That's good value for money.
- 56:44I would also go with the VR6 VW Caravelle, which is the successor to the Eurovan
- 56:50with a stick shift because I like vans and I like VR6s and boom, done.
- 56:54And then a three way tie for me between the gen one Audi S6.
- 56:58Three, which is a mark 4G TI with Quattro, the OTT Cupra, which is a
- 57:04Mark four golf with Quattro and the Luo GTI, which is basically a mark one GTI.
- 57:11Awesome sauce.
- 57:12So I have to pick from those three.
- 57:14I would probably buy the OTT because it's so different, but I know what
- 57:18I'm getting myself into with that car Sayat, the Caravel and the Voxel.
- 57:22VX two 20.
- 57:24Go.
- 57:24I don't want any of these.
- 57:25What?
- 57:26The last femur.
- 57:27You don't want a Lupo GTI?
- 57:29I'm getting these for free or am I paying for them?
- 57:32Oh, you're getting them for free.
- 57:33This is, this is no, because no, in seriousness, why would I get a
- 57:37Lupo when I can get a regular golf?
- 57:40I'm with Tanya on that.
- 57:41I don't really understand the appeal of the Lupo.
- 57:43Why wouldn't I go get a nice Mark I then?
- 57:46Because Mark Is are turds unless they've been taken care of.
- 57:49Because that Lupo is not a turd?
- 57:52You can't buy right now a Mark I GTI.
- 57:55But these are free!
- 57:56For 15 grand.
- 57:57Well, what can I import for free from Europe that falls in the 25 years?
- 58:01You can import a Mark I GTI if you can find one.
- 58:04If you can find one.
- 58:06We don't know that we can find any of these in good condition.
- 58:08That's true.
- 58:09That is a whole other aspect of this that we're not talking about.
- 58:12We're in fantasy land now.
- 58:14So we're in fantasy land.
- 58:15So in seriousness, could go get a Mint Mark I out of Europe.
- 58:19And I would rather have that, I think, than the Lupo.
- 58:22Yeah.
- 58:22I think the Lupo is a poor choice.
- 58:24You chose poorly as the, as the crusader said in the last crusade.
- 58:30Chose the Cooper.
- 58:31I didn't pick the Lupo.
- 58:32Oh, you did choose the Cooper.
- 58:33That's true.
- 58:33But the reason I would pick the Lupo is modern suspension, modern electronics.
- 58:37It's the same size as a mark one.
- 58:39And guess what?
- 58:40It makes double the freaking horsepower because when you drive a
- 58:42mark one GTI, you realize it makes 65 it's fun, but it's not fun.
- 58:47And I'm exaggerating.
- 58:48It makes like 85 horsepower, 90 or something like that.
- 58:51It's in that loophole makes a hundred.
- 58:52Okay.
- 58:53123, but still it's more modern, but anyway, leave it where it is.
- 58:58Probably weighs more.
- 58:58I don't know.
- 58:59I've driven a Seat before.
- 59:01I don't know that I was overly impressed by it.
- 59:03Fine.
- 59:03We're all getting a Clio, so that's fine.
- 59:06I think I'll be different.
- 59:07And I'll get this noble things.
- 59:09Oh, that's a good choice.
- 59:12That sounded fun.
- 59:13Twin turbo V six or something like that.
- 59:15Ford motor ish.
- 59:16So the transmission brakes, whatever.
- 59:19I think, I think, uh, Richard Hammond drove one in one of the challenges.
- 59:22He drove it or he wrecked it.
- 59:23He drove it and it broke a couple of times.
- 59:25So they, they gave him a second one.
- 59:26I don't Opals out and then Sylvia is out.
- 59:30If it was a regular Sylvia, cause that thing's hideous as a convertible.
- 59:34I want to try to be different because I would naturally in a
- 59:37split second looking at this list.
- 59:38It would be the S3, the Clio and honestly probably the Lupo even though I just
- 59:43went through that big whole thing.
- 59:46Stand your ground Tanya, stand your ground.
- 59:49But watch out RS4.
- 59:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:52I don't drive wagons.
- 59:56Yeah.
- 59:56Too practical, too practical, right?
- 59:58Yeah.
- 59:59You could put extra bags of mulch in a wagon.
- 1:00:01We wouldn't want that.
- 1:00:01You only need a finite amount of mulch.
- 1:00:03Exactly.
- 1:00:04All right, Brad.
- 1:00:05Well, you're going to buy every Toyota on this thing, right?
- 1:00:07Uh, no.
- 1:00:09Oh, okay.
- 1:00:10Parked next to my Renault Clio sport.
- 1:00:13I'm going to have.
- 1:00:14I'm going to have the RS4 Avant.
- 1:00:16That's a good choice.
- 1:00:17Solid.
- 1:00:17I'm going to have the TVR Tuscan Speed 6.
- 1:00:20I had a feeling.
- 1:00:21I've loved those cars ever since Gran Turismo.
- 1:00:25Seeing one in the movie Swordfish.
- 1:00:27They're so interesting looking.
- 1:00:29And just, the fact that they're so Insane, you know, the engineering
- 1:00:33and how they're put together.
- 1:00:34And they're just stupid cars and I'm all for stupid cars.
- 1:00:39And then I got to go with the Holden Maloo.
- 1:00:43You got to get your redneck on.
- 1:00:45That's a crook.
- 1:00:46Yeah.
- 1:00:46And then, and then Tanya and I can have a competition about
- 1:00:49who could haul more mulch.
- 1:00:51You can definitely haul it.
- 1:00:53Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:54Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:56Yeah.
- 1:00:56The Maloo is a good choice.
- 1:00:58I'm glad he went to Australia too, because there is some cool
- 1:01:00stuff in that direction as well.
- 1:01:02Back in 2000, 2001, 2002, when all like I was a bank teller, so all I
- 1:01:06did was like look at cars online.
- 1:01:08I was on the Holden website.
- 1:01:11All the time trying to figure out how the hell do I get this car into the U.
- 1:01:15S.
- 1:01:15Turns out I just had to wait 25 years, but that would definitely be on my list.
- 1:01:19Well, you know, you mentioned Gran Turismo and we're talking stuff from 20 years ago.
- 1:01:23How about this 80 year old grandma who bought her RX 7 25 years ago
- 1:01:28because she watched Initial D.
- 1:01:30So 55.
- 1:01:32Yeah.
- 1:01:33You know, more power to her.
- 1:01:34I mean.
- 1:01:35That's awesome.
- 1:01:35Apparently she's done with it and she donated the car now.
- 1:01:38Yeah.
- 1:01:38She gave up her license.
- 1:01:40I guess she's 80 years old.
- 1:01:41She's 80 years old, so she doesn't need to drive it anymore.
- 1:01:43But can you imagine?
- 1:01:44I mean, that's pretty cool.
- 1:01:45I want her to be my grandma.
- 1:01:47Good for her.
- 1:01:47My grandmother gave up her Honda Civic, which was not much to write home about.
- 1:01:51This is definitely a much cooler car.
- 1:01:53This is awesome.
- 1:01:53This is a nice FD.
- 1:01:54This is really, really nice.
- 1:01:56I actually feel really bad that she had to give up her license.
- 1:01:59This is foreshadowing.
- 1:02:00It's going to happen to all of us at some point.
- 1:02:02Thousand percent.
- 1:02:03We're going to have to hand over the keys to our prize, whatever it is
- 1:02:07we're driving at the time, and it's going to be a really, really sad day.
- 1:02:10The next grandma we found, it's not a sad day for her yet.
- 1:02:14Do you see this?
- 1:02:15She won a burnout contest with her 57 big block Cadillac.
- 1:02:19This thing was making the rounds on social media.
- 1:02:21It was hilarious.
- 1:02:22Can you imagine your grandma rolls up to the car show and then just starts
- 1:02:26doing wild burnouts in her Cadillac?
- 1:02:29True story.
- 1:02:30My grandmother used to street race, not really street race, but whenever
- 1:02:35somebody pulled up next to her at a light, when she was in her Chrysler
- 1:02:40Cordova with that big old V8, I mean, the car weighed more than my house
- 1:02:43does, but the big old V8 and everything.
- 1:02:46And she would rev it up and leave from the light peeling tires and stuff.
- 1:02:50She got thumbs up all the time from people and she would do that.
- 1:02:53So grandmas get crazy out there.
- 1:02:55I love it.
- 1:02:56I think we need a new segment.
- 1:02:57We need to drop Florida man, and we need to pick up crazy grandmas.
- 1:03:032025 new year, new us.
- 1:03:05All right.
- 1:03:05So we're in the middle of lost and found, and, you know, we like to find
- 1:03:08little nuggets of things that we didn't know before, because part of lost and
- 1:03:12found is really about the history of motorsport and the automotive world.
- 1:03:15And during the break, if you go back to our catalog, the
- 1:03:19Senna Netflix series came out.
- 1:03:21We did a crossover with William Ross from the Ferrari marketplace
- 1:03:24podcast and professor John Summers from the motor news story.
- 1:03:27And we got together and we reviewed the Senna film.
- 1:03:30Because of that, people were trying to jump on the bandwagon, you know, putting
- 1:03:33out articles and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:03:34You know, we did our part to supply the social media gods and the Googles
- 1:03:38with something else different to read.
- 1:03:40But, you know, it was our take on the movie.
- 1:03:42I got a thing in the Porsche Club newsletter that said, Did you
- 1:03:45know that Senna raced a Porsche?
- 1:03:48And I was like, What?
- 1:03:49These are like lesser known tales of Ayrton Senna, I guess, because
- 1:03:52I've never heard this before, ever.
- 1:03:55You know, you always think Honda, McLaren, Senna, those three words, that's it.
- 1:04:00But apparently, he raced a 956.
- 1:04:03Well, there was an interesting backstory to that, like The reason
- 1:04:06why he didn't continue doing it.
- 1:04:07I don't remember what it was now because I read the article so long ago.
- 1:04:10It was like Jost Racing, who is still around today, running at Le Mans,
- 1:04:15Rolex and all those kinds of things.
- 1:04:17He paid Senna to drive the 956 at the Nürburgring.
- 1:04:21It's like, OK, great.
- 1:04:23And then, you know, I asked Professor Summers Senna is really his thing.
- 1:04:27And so his only comment was it would be interesting to compare his times
- 1:04:31with Derek Bell's and Stefan Beloff's.
- 1:04:33Since they were the Rothmans works drivers and just see how he did.
- 1:04:37But from the very little write up that was here from PCA, it seemed
- 1:04:41like Senna was king of Formula One, but he wasn't crushing it in GTP.
- 1:04:45They said he finished seventh and that he crushed his teammates times
- 1:04:50considering this is His first time he gets into a car and he beats the people
- 1:04:54that drive it on a regular basis.
- 1:04:55Yeah, that is saying something and then practice he was seventh and
- 1:05:00then qualified seventh and then the car broke down in the race.
- 1:05:03So who knows what he actually would have accomplished.
- 1:05:05I've always argued that more of the Formula One drivers should do
- 1:05:09other disciplines of racing and so I mean, you see that where Senna
- 1:05:12did the celebrity race with the DTM cars and so the Mercedes and stuff.
- 1:05:16I mean, that's cool.
- 1:05:17So basically he didn't continue because his aspirations were Formula One.
- 1:05:21Right.
- 1:05:21Exactly.
- 1:05:22Yeah.
- 1:05:22He didn't want to cross discipline.
- 1:05:24Oh, well, that was fun.
- 1:05:25What's next?
- 1:05:26Yeah.
- 1:05:29So what did you think?
- 1:05:30First of all, what was that guy?
- 1:05:32Nick?
- 1:05:32Nick Smith.
- 1:05:33Yeah.
- 1:05:34I'm so glad they got rid of him.
- 1:05:35I don't think his vision and what they were trying to do with finding these
- 1:05:39high end people that like spiderwebs.
- 1:05:42Apparently I didn't think it was going to work out.
- 1:05:45So I'm glad they kind of went back to their roots a little bit and
- 1:05:49kind of dropped that whole arc.
- 1:05:52Cause I thought that was really dumb.
- 1:05:53All we heard about was them complaining.
- 1:05:56I'm a creative and I want someone to give me millions of dollars to
- 1:06:00build a car, but I want to be able to do it the way I want to do it.
- 1:06:02And I want them to be hands off.
- 1:06:04Who's going to do that?
- 1:06:05Who in their right mind is going to do that?
- 1:06:08Nobody.
- 1:06:09Nobody.
- 1:06:09But I'm glad they went back in time and started doing things the way they used to.
- 1:06:13I actually thought a couple of the cars that they did were pretty cool.
- 1:06:17I'm not usually a fan of the Fords, but the casino car with
- 1:06:21all the little touches, the casino car was really, really cool.
- 1:06:24I love the little thing between Mark and Tony where they've got this like
- 1:06:28steel, like this polished steering wheel and Mark's like, you're
- 1:06:33gonna have to put a cover on that.
- 1:06:34It's a convertible.
- 1:06:35Your hands are gonna be burning if you try to drive this thing.
- 1:06:39Yeah.
- 1:06:39The casino car was pretty much awesome.
- 1:06:42The kid coming in trying to get his McLaren worked on and daddy's
- 1:06:45like, daddy Warbucks came in.
- 1:06:47He was like, not going to happen.
- 1:06:48They're going to make a wide body McLaren.
- 1:06:50It would have been dumb.
- 1:06:51It would have looked stupid.
- 1:06:52I'm glad daddy Warbucks said no.
- 1:06:53The DeLorean, I kind of liked it.
- 1:06:56Cause I liked the idea of modifying a DeLorean.
- 1:06:59I didn't like the execution.
- 1:07:01I thought they didn't really do much to it.
- 1:07:03Granted the owner probably was like, you cannot destroy this car.
- 1:07:07So I can understand they probably had limitations, but the things that
- 1:07:10they did do, I thought were dumb.
- 1:07:12I'm not even going to give the hot air balloon any airtime.
- 1:07:16You know, I thought the demolition derby car was stupid.
- 1:07:20I liked the idea of the Hummer.
- 1:07:24Although I would have liked to have seen them forgo the whole
- 1:07:27eco diesel thing or biodiesel.
- 1:07:29I mean, go with like a full electric.
- 1:07:32I feel like an electric Hummer would have been a bigger statement, but
- 1:07:35maybe they had budget restraints and they couldn't really do that.
- 1:07:38I thought that would have been a really cool idea versus the biodiesel.
- 1:07:42Uh, I do love the fact that it almost caught fire.
- 1:07:44That was pretty cool.
- 1:07:45The Ferrari at the end.
- 1:07:47The 308 William and I did a whole episode on that.
- 1:07:52I don't like their touches.
- 1:07:53I still want to get Tony cave man, Constance.
- 1:07:56Any of them can come on the show.
- 1:07:57I don't care who it is.
- 1:07:58Even Mark, we're good with all of you.
- 1:07:59Come on.
- 1:08:00We want to interview you.
- 1:08:01Have you reached out to him?
- 1:08:02I'd love to talk to Tony.
- 1:08:03I think Tony is awesome.
- 1:08:04I've reached out to Tony actually, but I got no response.
- 1:08:07Yeah.
- 1:08:07Tony's pretty awesome.
- 1:08:08I mean, I like them all, but I feel like Tony would, he'd be the
- 1:08:11most interesting and knowledgeable.
- 1:08:13I actually really liked the 308.
- 1:08:15There were things about it that I didn't like, but for the most part,
- 1:08:17I actually really liked that car.
- 1:08:18Well, the one thing that William picked up on, which I thought I
- 1:08:21was just being overly Critical?
- 1:08:23Sensitive, was that the vinyl was crooked.
- 1:08:26In some of the head on shots, you could tell that the striping wasn't straight.
- 1:08:30And so he pointed it out and I was like, Okay, so it's not just me.
- 1:08:33I thought I was being just ridiculously hypersensitive.
- 1:08:36And then I was like, Okay, you notice it, that means other people notice it too.
- 1:08:39So that stuff like that just bugged me.
- 1:08:41To no end, I think you and I have had discussions about that in
- 1:08:46their past seasons where like their attention to detail it's lacking.
- 1:08:50I don't think they've put out very good products overall would make sense.
- 1:08:54Why the high end car market doesn't want to deal with them because.
- 1:08:58It seems like a lot of the stuff they put out is junk.
- 1:09:00I'm sorry.
- 1:09:01It's hot wheels.
- 1:09:02Yeah.
- 1:09:02And hot wheels aren't made to be real cars.
- 1:09:05I did really enjoy that car that they made for the museum.
- 1:09:08That read the Exner and then the Futura was fantastic.
- 1:09:12That thing was gorgeous, but that's all season one.
- 1:09:15Season two stuff where they were really taking their time.
- 1:09:18Yeah.
- 1:09:18And then they kind of lost their way and did some weird stuff.
- 1:09:21That car that they quote unquote design themselves of where I thought that
- 1:09:25was an abomination to the automotive industry for the most part, I liked
- 1:09:29most of what they did this season.
- 1:09:30Well, good.
- 1:09:31And I'm looking forward to the next season.
- 1:09:32I will continue watching it and I will continue reviewing
- 1:09:35it because it is entertaining.
- 1:09:36And unfortunately, my new favorite Rustoration show, Tex Mex Motors, because
- 1:09:41Rabbit died unexpectedly, they had to change the whole format of the show.
- 1:09:46It's like a whole thing and they didn't go after the Ferrari and half
- 1:09:49of the people aren't there anymore.
- 1:09:51And I got through maybe the first episode.
- 1:09:53I was like, Nope, not watching this anymore.
- 1:09:54I'm done.
- 1:09:55Did you ever watch fast and loud?
- 1:09:57No, but everybody tells me I should.
- 1:09:59It was good and fun, but I mean, it follows the same formula.
- 1:10:02Oh no, we need to get a car done in two weeks and we got to redo the entire
- 1:10:06thing and fab the whole car, whatever.
- 1:10:07It's the same formula over and over again, but they did do a salvage
- 1:10:11Ferrari F40 and they brought it back to life and had it recertified by
- 1:10:15Ferrari to get a clean title for it.
- 1:10:18So you might want to go back and watch that.
- 1:10:19And the guy that was the fabricator on that show, Aaron, he was
- 1:10:23really, really good fabricator.
- 1:10:25If you're looking for something else, go back and watch fast and loud to
- 1:10:28watch what they did with the F40.
- 1:10:29It actually looks straight up Batmobile.
- 1:10:31Nice.
- 1:10:31Well, just when you thought we couldn't talk about them enough.
- 1:10:34GM.
- 1:10:35No, we're obviously talking about Mercedes and BMW.
- 1:10:38So is Tesla a better company than GM?
- 1:10:41Is that how it goes?
- 1:10:43We would be remiss if we didn't circle back and talk about
- 1:10:47he who shall not be named.
- 1:10:52Voldemort.
- 1:10:53They kind of look alike.
- 1:10:54His new day.
- 1:10:55He's the doge now.
- 1:10:56See Brad doge coin.
- 1:10:58He's the head doge.
- 1:10:59Who let the doge out?
- 1:11:01All right.
- 1:11:01So what's going on in the world of the doge?
- 1:11:03Some unexciting stuff, like recalls for TPMS sensors.
- 1:11:07Who gives a shit?
- 1:11:08And it's not even the sensor itself, it's actually the warning light in the dash.
- 1:11:12The mill is non persistent, and that's what the recall is for.
- 1:11:15So like, it'll flash on, and then you like, you turn the car off, and turn
- 1:11:19the car back on, and then magically your air pressures back, which is a problem
- 1:11:23because most there's going to be people are going to be like, Oh, it fixed itself.
- 1:11:26And then keep going on a flat tire.
- 1:11:28Anyway, it's an over the air software update, bubbing fixed.
- 1:11:32And next, it should be really easy for Tesla to do this update because
- 1:11:36none of these cars have been sold.
- 1:11:37So they just go around where the lot is and just do the update.
- 1:11:40If it's over the air, it's even easier.
- 1:11:42And this next one has to do with his new best friend, right?
- 1:11:45Cause he's the doge.
- 1:11:46So now that inauguration day is over.
- 1:11:48The new administration reportedly wants to end NHTSA requirement for
- 1:11:54car crashes involving automated systems that have to self report.
- 1:11:58This is crap.
- 1:11:59That's your new soapbox, Tanya.
- 1:12:01I already calmed myself down because I already went
- 1:12:08and got angry.
- 1:12:10Like, this is crap.
- 1:12:11Just.
- 1:12:12Really?
- 1:12:13Really?
- 1:12:14Like, what's the justification that something that's autonomous
- 1:12:17suddenly doesn't need any crash test safeties test or has to pass them?
- 1:12:21Like, where is the logic link here?
- 1:12:23There is none.
- 1:12:24The car still needs to be safe, whether it's driving itself
- 1:12:27or a person's driving it.
- 1:12:29Autonomy has nothing to do with the safety of the vehicle.
- 1:12:31The implication is, yeah.
- 1:12:33Autonomous vehicle is inherently safer because it's not going to make
- 1:12:36mistakes, but I think by virtue of how many get confused by flashing
- 1:12:40lights and drive into parked vehicles.
- 1:12:42We know this isn't the case.
- 1:12:44And the other problem that this tangents me on and gets me even angrier is the
- 1:12:48freaking cyber truck that apparently eluded all crash test safety standards
- 1:12:52of any kind in its design because there was the other article that came out
- 1:12:57With the convoy of Tesla Cybertrucks that were going wherever the hell
- 1:13:01they were going, 75 miles an hour down the road, one of them hits a deer.
- 1:13:04And it was unclear whether the control was of the driver or if
- 1:13:08it was in FSD, who gives a shit.
- 1:13:10Nonetheless, there's a lot of hit deer I see on the road for the roads I travel.
- 1:13:16I have never seen a deer that's sliced in half.
- 1:13:21After being hit by a car, but that's what happens when a cybertruck at 75
- 1:13:25miles an hour hits a deer in the road.
- 1:13:27It slices it in half because, oh, I wonder why.
- 1:13:29Could it have anything to do with the polygon sharp edges of this vehicle?
- 1:13:34And then you go, there was no test because if you would have hit
- 1:13:37a crash test on me, I'm sure it would have told you this is bad.
- 1:13:40So what happens when you hit a pedestrian?
- 1:13:41God forbid if you hit a pedestrian at 75 miles an hour, I don't
- 1:13:45care what you're in there.
- 1:13:46Most likely dead, but even at a lower speed, yes, people can die getting hit by
- 1:13:51regular rounded car, even at lower speed, but most people aren't getting decapitated
- 1:13:57or body split in half when they're hit.
- 1:14:01You're definitely not surviving that.
- 1:14:03Wasn't that the whole point of the cab forward design and you had to
- 1:14:06have the headlights at a certain point so that if you did hit a pedestrian,
- 1:14:09they would roll over the car.
- 1:14:11Yeah, that's why they all look so swoopy and bubbly and all this shit is like most
- 1:14:16of the design now is driven a lot because of pedestrian safety and exactly that.
- 1:14:21So it's like you hit them and they'll scoop up over you or whatever.
- 1:14:24And you don't just knock them out on the knees.
- 1:14:26They'll scoop up over you in the car behind you.
- 1:14:29I think we put the responsibility back on the pedestrian and if you
- 1:14:38don't want to die, don't get hit.
- 1:14:40There's that too.
- 1:14:41But to me, getting hit by a cyber truck is equivalent to
- 1:14:45getting hit by a bullet train.
- 1:14:46You're not bouncing off of it.
- 1:14:47It's going to completely eviscerate you.
- 1:14:49Like that's the end of the story.
- 1:14:51Should we put cow catchers on the front of cyber trucks?
- 1:14:53Oh my God.
- 1:14:54Can you imagine?
- 1:14:56The whole front end would break.
- 1:14:58Speaking of whole.
- 1:14:59Oh boy, Brad, you brought us a good one.
- 1:15:03Our favorite internet idiot whistling diesel back again with
- 1:15:07another cyber truck durability test.
- 1:15:09Oh, did you all watch it?
- 1:15:12I did.
- 1:15:13Yes, I was hard to watch.
- 1:15:15So that video tone and everything was more what I was expecting.
- 1:15:21Never watched him all the way through and that first one was
- 1:15:24actually like fairly informative.
- 1:15:26Yeah.
- 1:15:26He was like sober.
- 1:15:28Maybe I don't know.
- 1:15:30He wasn't hopped up on those caffeine.
- 1:15:32Whatever's that he's pushing.
- 1:15:34God damn.
- 1:15:34He was hopped up on those.
- 1:15:35LFGO.
- 1:15:36Those it's like basically like chewing tobacco, but it's
- 1:15:39full of caffeine or some shit.
- 1:15:41Chewing caffeine, I guess.
- 1:15:42I don't know what it was.
- 1:15:43It wasn't tobacco.
- 1:15:44LFGO stands for let's fucking go.
- 1:15:46It looked like a skull pouch that you stuck in your lip.
- 1:15:48You know, spitting.
- 1:15:49Oh my God, that must taste nasty.
- 1:15:51Ah, it's awful.
- 1:15:53It started off good.
- 1:15:54I was like, oh, this is going to be interesting.
- 1:15:55We're doing the tug of war.
- 1:15:57It's bullshit, but still we're doing it.
- 1:15:58And then after that, it's like went off the rails.
- 1:16:01It was hilarious.
- 1:16:03I was laughing the whole time.
- 1:16:05I said, this is so good.
- 1:16:06I felt bad for their building because they kept just destroying the building.
- 1:16:10That was kind of funny when he's like, oh, the car will just come to me.
- 1:16:14That was my favorite part.
- 1:16:17He's standing there like, calling the Batmobile and it drives in
- 1:16:21by itself through the building.
- 1:16:23Not through the opening.
- 1:16:24Through the building.
- 1:16:26Holy shit.
- 1:16:27Like, wow.
- 1:16:29That was awesome.
- 1:16:30That was hilarious.
- 1:16:32The stuff that they put those trucks through yet again, and he
- 1:16:36was like, look, we're doing this because, you know, real truck
- 1:16:39people, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:16:40They broke the driveshaft in the Ford again.
- 1:16:43Again.
- 1:16:45Obviously that's the weak link on the F 150, but what was interesting about that
- 1:16:48is this time they broke the driveshaft.
- 1:16:51And they just sent it.
- 1:16:52They kept going.
- 1:16:53So it was running off the front two wheels.
- 1:16:54They must have locked the diff and then just said to hell with it and go.
- 1:16:58I've witnessed somebody do that out on the trails.
- 1:17:00Actually, a former guest, Bobby Parks.
- 1:17:03We were out off roading on the trails and his Cherokee, he
- 1:17:06broke the rear axles and he used.
- 1:17:09Basically front wheel drive mode, the four wheel drive to claw his way out.
- 1:17:13So I've seen that done before.
- 1:17:14It works.
- 1:17:15I don't think the cyber truck can do that.
- 1:17:16Front wheel drive mode on a cyber truck.
- 1:17:18Don't work too good.
- 1:17:18That was pathetic.
- 1:17:20And then you heard this big old bang.
- 1:17:22He destroyed the axle or whatever.
- 1:17:24And I was like, Oh my God, what a mess.
- 1:17:26When did they rip off the back tailgate came off or whatever that truck was just.
- 1:17:30Destroyed by the time it was done.
- 1:17:32Yeah.
- 1:17:32Something else structurally.
- 1:17:34I was surprised when they started the video, this is part two.
- 1:17:37So it was the same truck from the first video.
- 1:17:39Yes.
- 1:17:39They dropped off at the Tesla thing.
- 1:17:41And then the bill was only like 15, 000.
- 1:17:44I'm like BS.
- 1:17:45Yeah.
- 1:17:45But then he spent another 20 on top of that.
- 1:17:48But also it wasn't completely fixed, even for 15 grand.
- 1:17:52Like it was just patched.
- 1:17:53Yeah.
- 1:17:53He dropped it off and said, make it run again, but they didn't fix anything else.
- 1:17:58They just made it.
- 1:17:58So it ran again without any lays and they put a windshield in it and that was it.
- 1:18:02But he did, the windows were still broken and still had holes in it.
- 1:18:05But at the end of the day, the Ford.
- 1:18:08Soldiers on in comparison to the Cybertruck because he destroyed the
- 1:18:11Cybertruck yet again I will say that other thing where he was doing the doughnuts
- 1:18:15and then the rear suspension broke and he's going down and the wheels like
- 1:18:22What a piece of junk god bless you if you have one enjoy it
- 1:18:26doesn't sound like they're gonna be making them too much longer But
- 1:18:29he really put it through its paces.
- 1:18:31And I guess the only thing I thought was interesting, he didn't get his diff
- 1:18:35lockers because that was a software thing that he had to pay extra for,
- 1:18:39but he got that Baja mode and I thought that was really cool where it basically
- 1:18:45just let the thing run full tilt.
- 1:18:48Without any nannies.
- 1:18:49And then he was more capable at that point than the F 150 was in some respects, but
- 1:18:56it was basically falling apart around him.
- 1:18:58Anyway, it was good fun.
- 1:18:59I enjoyed it.
- 1:19:00I laughed.
- 1:19:00Before we get off the cyber truck, there was another video I saw not on YouTube.
- 1:19:04It was on Instagram.
- 1:19:05It was a cyber truck and a Hummer H2.
- 1:19:09They're at a hill climb competition and the cyber truck tries to go
- 1:19:13up the hill climb, makes it about two thirds of the way, maybe three
- 1:19:16quarters of the way fails has to back down, you know, just can't do it.
- 1:19:20The Hummer pulls up, turns around and backs.
- 1:19:24All the way up the hill to the very top, right in front of the cyber truck.
- 1:19:28And then just drives right back down.
- 1:19:30This isn't an H one.
- 1:19:31It's a regular H two with the six leader.
- 1:19:33Basically it's just loaded Chevy Tahoe.
- 1:19:35I just annihilated the cyber truck in this competition.
- 1:19:38And I thought that was hilarious.
- 1:19:39Yeah, that was a good one.
- 1:19:40I saw that on social media.
- 1:19:42I was like, damn, look at that old Hummer doing it.
- 1:19:45Thing, you know?
- 1:19:45Yeah.
- 1:19:46Really something could be said about mechanical All-wheel drive.
- 1:19:49Yep.
- 1:19:49Solid axles.
- 1:19:50Well, it's unfortunate, lower, expect
- 1:19:59worse than destroying a cyber truck.
- 1:20:01'cause I don't think we really feel bad about that because we
- 1:20:04don't like 'em to begin with.
- 1:20:05And I thought it was hilarious earlier when I was prepping for this.
- 1:20:08My daughter walks in and she goes that.
- 1:20:09Why is that on your screen?
- 1:20:11And I said, what are you talking about?
- 1:20:11She goes, that is the ugliest car I've ever seen.
- 1:20:14And so I started laughing.
- 1:20:16Oh boy.
- 1:20:17Kids already have an opinion.
- 1:20:18They don't care about cars, but they know the cyber truck is ugly.
- 1:20:21I'm not feeding this to them.
- 1:20:22This is out of the mouths of babes.
- 1:20:24All right.
- 1:20:25But what is unfortunate?
- 1:20:26We've had not one, but two F40s succumb to carnage over the winter break.
- 1:20:33One of the coolest hypercars ever.
- 1:20:35Don't let interns drive the car.
- 1:20:38Who's making these decisions?
- 1:20:40Who says I don't know.
- 1:20:41Let Johnny on the spot take out a five million dollar F40, Lando
- 1:20:47Norris's Ferrari F40, and drive it from here to there on a rainy day.
- 1:20:51Who thought that was a good idea?
- 1:20:52The one that was like the highest mileage F40 in existence.
- 1:20:56Who was driving that?
- 1:20:57What the circumstance was?
- 1:20:58I have no idea.
- 1:20:59A service technician was behind the wheel.
- 1:21:01There you go.
- 1:21:02Highest mileage F40 in existence means it has like 10, 000 miles on it.
- 1:21:06Apparently it had 44, 000 miles.
- 1:21:08That's still nothing.
- 1:21:09I mean, come on.
- 1:21:10Yeah, but the thing is freaking.
- 1:21:12Totaled.
- 1:21:13I mean, he took a pull down.
- 1:21:14Yeah, that was bad.
- 1:21:15And if you watch the video, and we posted a link to it in the show notes, where
- 1:21:19it's from the dash cam of the car that's following him, the road is wet, and then
- 1:21:24suddenly he just decides to punch it.
- 1:21:26They're doing like 30 miles an hour, so he's like in first or second gear,
- 1:21:28and the car just gets away from him.
- 1:21:30That's all she wrote, folks, and you're done.
- 1:21:32It's incredible the flip that happened, though.
- 1:21:35Well, the car doesn't weigh anything.
- 1:21:36I mean, someone could turn it into a meme where like, there's a cat.
- 1:21:39standing next to the side of the road and the cat just did that, the thing.
- 1:21:42And then suddenly it was almost like the Mercedes that
- 1:21:45would catch air and flip over.
- 1:21:47It was almost like that happened.
- 1:21:49It was wild to watch the wreck.
- 1:21:50Cause when you see it sideways on the side of the road, I was thinking, Oh, there
- 1:21:53must've been like a ditch and it went down and it like flipped it sideways into the
- 1:21:57pole and then like all this catapulting it did and it's like, no, it's flat from
- 1:22:01the pavement to the grass other than whatever bump to go on the dirt grass.
- 1:22:06Well, it doesn't look like there's a curb, so it probably slid into the
- 1:22:09curb and popped up over like that.
- 1:22:10It knocked the telephone pole down.
- 1:22:13I don't know, the picture where it's on its side with no body
- 1:22:15panels on it anymore, it doesn't look like there's any curb.
- 1:22:18When I'm looking at the undercarriage right here, there's a curb right there,
- 1:22:20it looks to be a couple inches tall.
- 1:22:22There is a curb there, he's right.
- 1:22:23Oh, this angle of the photo looks different.
- 1:22:25So then that's what did it.
- 1:22:26It popped the car up.
- 1:22:27It shot up the curve and flipped it up.
- 1:22:29That's fixable.
- 1:22:30I mean, look at that.
- 1:22:31The chassis, it's all still there.
- 1:22:32That'll buff.
- 1:22:34But Lando's on the other hand, that wreck was like, sort of similar.
- 1:22:40Very similar.
- 1:22:40Similar, but he had a little bit more room before he hit.
- 1:22:44So he came around and it basically clipped the rear quarter panel.
- 1:22:47So that they're going to fix.
- 1:22:48I mean, granted that whole car is carbon Kevlar.
- 1:22:51So it's not like, Oh, we're just going to run out and get an F 40
- 1:22:54clamshell and put it on there.
- 1:22:55There weren't that many of those cars to begin with like 1500 of them or something.
- 1:22:58I mean, William will correct me.
- 1:22:59He knows the exact numbers, but it's not a lot.
- 1:23:021300 that.
- 1:23:04So the point is.
- 1:23:05Lando's will get fixed, but again, why is the intern from the service
- 1:23:09shop driving Lando Norris F40?
- 1:23:11That, to me, doesn't make sense.
- 1:23:13Nobody knows who was driving Lando Norris F40 other than it wasn't Lando.
- 1:23:17Maybe it was a friend or something.
- 1:23:19Which, guess they're not friends anymore.
- 1:23:21It was George Russell.
- 1:23:25You know, all of this culminates into Rich People Things, because you have
- 1:23:30friends with F40s and they let you drive them, and blah, blah, blah, and
- 1:23:33you're getting your F40 serviced, and you're gonna get your F40 fixed, because
- 1:23:37that's what you do when you're rich.
- 1:23:38So, Rich People Things, sponsored by GarageStyle Magazine, because, after
- 1:23:41all, what doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:23:43I found that now that Hamilton is over at Ferrari and we'll talk about that
- 1:23:48more, especially the photos that came out, him looking like Shumi and stuff,
- 1:23:51that he gave some really profound investment advice over the winter break.
- 1:23:55He says, Hypercars are boring.
- 1:23:57You should buy a classic car.
- 1:23:58And art.
- 1:23:59Yeah.
- 1:23:59Okay.
- 1:24:00Thanks, rich guy.
- 1:24:01I mean What do you say to that?
- 1:24:03The ocean has water in it and it's wet.
- 1:24:06Moisture is the essence of water.
- 1:24:08I mean, cool, right?
- 1:24:11His version of it.
- 1:24:12So we all can buy a classic car, right?
- 1:24:14Dan's got a mountain of them.
- 1:24:17Now, now hold on, right?
- 1:24:21There's a difference between a classic car and whatever's going on at the mountain.
- 1:24:27There's a.
- 1:24:28Big difference.
- 1:24:29Do you call the cars at a junkyard classics?
- 1:24:31Well, it depends on the level of classic because of a certain age cars of a
- 1:24:38certain age, you can start calling it a classic and even normal people.
- 1:24:43Can buy a classic car.
- 1:24:44You could have a sixties Mustang.
- 1:24:46That would be considered a classic.
- 1:24:48Yeah.
- 1:24:48Yeah, for sure.
- 1:24:49A sixties Mustang.
- 1:24:50Yes.
- 1:24:50Ford Taurus.
- 1:24:52Nobody wants two mercury sables.
- 1:24:58Tanya, your point is like what happens on classic rock radio
- 1:25:01where Nirvana is classic rock now.
- 1:25:04So everybody listens to classic rock.
- 1:25:06Hamilton's comment is like, okay, cool.
- 1:25:08You're going to go buy a classic car.
- 1:25:09You're not going to go buy a 20 grand 1960s.
- 1:25:13Mustang or a Camaro or something from that age, you're going to go
- 1:25:16buy some classic car that's going to cost 750, 000 or 2 million.
- 1:25:23Some Mercedes, one of a kind, gold wing, SL, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:25:28Don't buy a LaFerrari, buy a 250 GTO.
- 1:25:31Yeah.
- 1:25:32He's talking about shit that nobody can afford.
- 1:25:34So cool for you.
- 1:25:35Yeah, everybody should buy a classic car, but.
- 1:25:37That everybody that can buy a classic car is going to be buying not those things.
- 1:25:40Buy a classic car, not a shit box.
- 1:25:43Sound buying advice from Lewis Hamilton and art who can afford art.
- 1:25:48Really?
- 1:25:48I'm sure I can go buy the knockoff reprint.
- 1:25:51Yes.
- 1:25:51Hold on.
- 1:25:54All posters.
- 1:25:55com.
- 1:25:55Yeah.
- 1:25:57Everybody go to display and get your art there.
- 1:26:00Oh boy.
- 1:26:01That's definitely not a, what should I buy episode in the making?
- 1:26:04Rich people.
- 1:26:05What should I buy?
- 1:26:05What art goes with my car?
- 1:26:07People would probably listen to that more than some of the other what should I buys.
- 1:26:11We've done like 25 what should I buys and that's the one people will
- 1:26:14probably listen to is, What Van Gogh or Renoir goes with my Bugatti?
- 1:26:21Like, ugh, stop.
- 1:26:23See?
- 1:26:23And the Picasso.
- 1:26:24We'd go with the Cybertruck.
- 1:26:26I feel like you are grossly overestimating the buying capacity of our listeners.
- 1:26:32All three Arbitron rated listeners.
- 1:26:34We have, I don't think Mark Hewitt is out there buying a Veyron or
- 1:26:40Chiron or whatever, and then he's going to steal and buy the Mona Lisa.
- 1:26:44All right.
- 1:26:45Lord, a man.
- 1:26:51None.
- 1:26:51I scoured the country.
- 1:26:53I scoured the world, actually.
- 1:26:57And could not find anything.
- 1:26:58They're in hibernation for the winter.
- 1:27:00I mean, the new administration's only like three days old.
- 1:27:02They were all at the inauguration.
- 1:27:04I thought I found one down under.
- 1:27:07Oh!
- 1:27:07Down under, man.
- 1:27:09Down under, man.
- 1:27:10Was something like Australian man getting a ticket or a fine,
- 1:27:14arrested, whatever, for cooking a steak in his car while driving.
- 1:27:17And I was like, oh damn, here we go.
- 1:27:19Open it up.
- 1:27:19It was all fake.
- 1:27:20Oh, written by chat.
- 1:27:22GPT.
- 1:27:22He wasn't.
- 1:27:23No, I mean, the article was real, but like he actually wasn't doing that.
- 1:27:26It was like a fake picture and he never was actually driving, but apparently
- 1:27:30the fine is quite high if you are cooking and driving in Australia.
- 1:27:35Wow.
- 1:27:36So the fact that it was like explicitly said, here's the fine and even jail
- 1:27:40time of like three years or something, if you're cooking and driving.
- 1:27:43Must mean it's happened before and it's happened enough that they need a law.
- 1:27:48So I feel like that leads us into maybe a new segment instead of Florida, man.
- 1:27:53It's stupid laws.
- 1:27:54There's one in the DMV.
- 1:27:56They can find you for cursing in your car.
- 1:27:58I don't know how anybody knows, unless it's like you roll the window down
- 1:28:02and you're like out the window at somebody and they record you Jersey.
- 1:28:07That's like.
- 1:28:08The way they greet each other.
- 1:28:09What are you talking about?
- 1:28:11I don't know.
- 1:28:11But if like I'm sitting in my car and I see a dumbass doing something
- 1:28:14dumbass, I'm like fucking dumbass.
- 1:28:15Like who's going to say anything?
- 1:28:17You're going to get arrested for that now, Tanya.
- 1:28:20Be careful.
- 1:28:20You know why?
- 1:28:21Because the cars are listening to you.
- 1:28:23I was about to say in the new cars.
- 1:28:25With all that crap in it, it's being transmitted to your insurance company.
- 1:28:29And then your rates are going to go up.
- 1:28:30You've got a potty mouth.
- 1:28:31See what's going to happen is they're going to go, Oh, in the drive between
- 1:28:34the Starbucks and the McDonald's, they cursed as they got to work after they
- 1:28:40left McDonald's, they calmed down.
- 1:28:41So they were just hangry.
- 1:28:43Oh my God.
- 1:28:44Well, we opened the door, talked about Lando a little bit.
- 1:28:47We talked about Lewis Hamilton a little bit, and I already mentioned, you've
- 1:28:52seen him now in the Ferrari driving suit pre practice and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:28:56I still think it's weird to see him at Ferrari.
- 1:29:00People are, you know, already creating memes about him.
- 1:29:03They're at Ferrari headquarters and the big black double trench
- 1:29:06coat and all that stuff looking very much like Schumacher did the
- 1:29:08same thing, you know, 25 years ago.
- 1:29:11Okay.
- 1:29:11Sure.
- 1:29:12I think it's awesome.
- 1:29:12Hamilton's at Ferrari.
- 1:29:14Let's talk motorsports news.
- 1:29:15Let's go.
- 1:29:27He's going to suck.
- 1:29:28They've been actually fairly competitive the last two seasons.
- 1:29:31I've, they've had a good car team orders and like some.
- 1:29:34Poor mistakes made by the drivers.
- 1:29:35I actually feel like this is good.
- 1:29:37And I think he's going to be better than people are giving him credit for.
- 1:29:40I don't think so.
- 1:29:41I think he's done.
- 1:29:42I think he's too old.
- 1:29:43And if he was still good, he'd be good.
- 1:29:45And he's not good.
- 1:29:46No, there's no way.
- 1:29:48Like the Mercedes, it got better.
- 1:29:50They improved it.
- 1:29:52Definitely in the last season, the season before even the two seasons before
- 1:29:56the car was crap, like it was visible.
- 1:29:58There's no amount of anything he could do when you saw the
- 1:30:01straight lines, speed, and the.
- 1:30:03Disparate difference in that speed, there's no way he or Russell could
- 1:30:08have competed in that version of the car in those seasons.
- 1:30:11The car was crap.
- 1:30:12It was so freaking slow.
- 1:30:13Absolute garbage.
- 1:30:14Verstappen could have been in it and he wouldn't have won.
- 1:30:17That's because I think they were cheating.
- 1:30:18If you compare him to the rest of the cars, he wasn't doing that great.
- 1:30:22They're either the car was not good against it was better than like Haas
- 1:30:26and like Williams and those cars But it wasn't better than Ferrari even in
- 1:30:29those seasons They struggled to even be like the top ten the car was so bad and
- 1:30:34then in the last season at least they were getting Podiums, how does Mercedes
- 1:30:37struggle to build a car like that to me doesn't make sense They were struggling
- 1:30:42to build a competitive race car.
- 1:30:44I think that's BS.
- 1:30:45I'm calling flag on the play.
- 1:30:46You can't tell me the Mercedes that has a racing pedigree that's longer
- 1:30:50than anybody there can't build a car.
- 1:30:53Well, they didn't because they went through that whole porpoising
- 1:30:55thing where the car was completely unstable and jumping around.
- 1:30:58So they did something.
- 1:30:59But that was happening to everybody though, wasn't it?
- 1:31:02Yeah, but Mercedes took the longest to figure it out.
- 1:31:04And they, they had it more drastic.
- 1:31:06You know what?
- 1:31:06I feel like the catalyst was for Mercedes and it's probably doesn't make any sense
- 1:31:10or whatever, but Nikki Lauda went when Lauda passed, he was doing a lot for
- 1:31:15them still up until then he was team consultant, they lost his expertise and
- 1:31:21years of experience and knowledge, and I feel like it seems to have had an effect.
- 1:31:26On them.
- 1:31:26Maybe he was the Mercedes whisperer.
- 1:31:29, yeah.
- 1:31:29But he was the Ferrari whisperer before that.
- 1:31:31Basic suspension.
- 1:31:33Yeah, sure.
- 1:31:34That's all the same.
- 1:31:35But I think the technology far surpassed LA's expertise because he raced in
- 1:31:40the seventies and the eighties we're 40 years in the future, the cars
- 1:31:43aren't even close to being the same.
- 1:31:45Yeah.
- 1:31:45But he was an engineer.
- 1:31:46He didn't walk away from Formula One.
- 1:31:48He stayed in it that whole time.
- 1:31:49And as an engineer, he probably learned exactly.
- 1:31:52Just because he wasn't racing doesn't mean he wasn't driving the cars.
- 1:31:55He's not Adrian Newey.
- 1:31:57He was doing better than Adrian Newey was when he was alive.
- 1:31:59The team was winning.
- 1:32:00The point is not one person designs the car and you can't tell me that Mercedes
- 1:32:04doesn't have talented people that could design a car that could be competitive
- 1:32:07as competitive as everybody else.
- 1:32:08Apparently not, not as talented as Red Bull and Ferrari and McLaren.
- 1:32:11It was wildly uncompetitive against many other manufacturers
- 1:32:15for at least two years.
- 1:32:16So I know you want to say Red Bull was cheating.
- 1:32:19If you take Red Bull out of the picture, their performance with
- 1:32:21everybody else was hot garbage.
- 1:32:23So was everybody else cheating as well?
- 1:32:25And it was just Mercedes.
- 1:32:26They were only faster than the back markers.
- 1:32:29Basically, that's all that car could do.
- 1:32:31It's a mid pack team.
- 1:32:31I get it.
- 1:32:32Point being though, I don't think you're going to see a whole hell
- 1:32:36of a lot out of Lewis at Ferrari.
- 1:32:37That's my prediction is going to be more of the same.
- 1:32:40I think he's going to be better than you're predicting.
- 1:32:43And that's my prediction.
- 1:32:44Okay.
- 1:32:46I look forward to seeing it.
- 1:32:47Well, this is funny.
- 1:32:48Eric's very strong about his opinion and he hasn't watched a formula one
- 1:32:52race in like 20 years, but he's very confident and strong about all of it.
- 1:32:58I secretly keep up with it.
- 1:33:00I don't have to watch the races to get the race results and read and understand.
- 1:33:04That's how I feel about Rally . Stop it.
- 1:33:08Stop it.
- 1:33:08Okay.
- 1:33:08This is us making our picks like for the NFC championship game coming up, you know?
- 1:33:13Exactly.
- 1:33:14Versus the Eagles.
- 1:33:15Who's gonna win the, the F1 championship this year?
- 1:33:17It's not gonna be Ferrari.
- 1:33:18Who, who's it gonna be?
- 1:33:19Who's gonna win the driver's championship and who's gonna win the constructors?
- 1:33:22They do not have to be the same.
- 1:33:23It's gonna be Affan again.
- 1:33:25As long as he's still driving and whatever other, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:33:28Because everybody's cash.
- 1:33:29That's not who won the Constructors championship this year?
- 1:33:31See?
- 1:33:32Yeah.
- 1:33:32So McLaren won the Constructors championship.
- 1:33:34I know that.
- 1:33:35The whole Zach Brown thing.
- 1:33:36It's like, okay, so it's McLaren's year.
- 1:33:38Let's see what happens.
- 1:33:39But I don't think Ferrari's gonna do it.
- 1:33:42Ferrari doesn't feel like it's been competitive for a while.
- 1:33:45Ferrari was very competitive last season.
- 1:33:47They were a lot more competitive than they have been in the last X number of years.
- 1:33:51I feel like Ferrari made an upgrade in driver.
- 1:33:53Yes.
- 1:33:56So, as long as their car is still as competitive as it was in prior years,
- 1:34:00and if they made an upgrade in driver, then that should tell you that they
- 1:34:06should perform better, at least as good as they did in prior years or better.
- 1:34:11I think it'll be interesting to see.
- 1:34:13I think you could tell with the Mercedes being.
- 1:34:16So uncompetitive Hamilton didn't give a shit and why should he what he's gonna
- 1:34:20bust his ass out there to come in 10th Okay, he came in 10th, but it's like
- 1:34:24how much more is he gonna bust his ass?
- 1:34:26He was never gonna come in first So you're driving your passion gets killed a little
- 1:34:30bit when you're like I gotta drive this frickin turd and there's nothing I can
- 1:34:33do And it's like I know I'm a better driver than these people But like I
- 1:34:36haven't I can't compete like you put me in a Pinto and I'm racing against GT40s?
- 1:34:41He wants to be Senna.
- 1:34:42That was his role model.
- 1:34:43That's the Senna and the Tolman story, where the Tolman was,
- 1:34:46they were like Haas back then.
- 1:34:48He ended up almost winning that Monte Carlo race, even though they
- 1:34:51cheated and took it away from him.
- 1:34:52But there's all these regulations and shit that was used against him.
- 1:34:55But I don't know if it's apples to apples.
- 1:34:57But the thing is, if you have the determination as a driver, you're
- 1:34:59going to try regardless and not just be like, complacent and take a paycheck.
- 1:35:05And that's the thing is, if Hamilton has been resting on his laurels,
- 1:35:09For the last couple of years, it means he's lost his edge, which
- 1:35:12means he's not going to be fast.
- 1:35:13Here's the question that I have.
- 1:35:15Maybe it won't matter, but Mr.
- 1:35:17Verstappen, will he lose his edge now that he's going to be a father?
- 1:35:21I am surprised he didn't quit at the end of this season and just be like, I'm done.
- 1:35:25That's it for that's all I need.
- 1:35:26He has a contract.
- 1:35:27He's not allowed out to like 2028.
- 1:35:29I mean, I'm sure he can buy himself out, but technically
- 1:35:32he's got a contract till then.
- 1:35:33Or until he underperforms enough that they really need to get rid of course.
- 1:35:37They'll kick him out, but are they going to do that?
- 1:35:39If he causes enough nuisance, I'm sure he will.
- 1:35:41You know what I mean?
- 1:35:42He's just got a curse on air a couple of times.
- 1:35:44Let's move on to another former Mercedes driver.
- 1:35:47That I think is doing great things.
- 1:35:52Botas is my spirit animal.
- 1:35:54He is my new favorite driver in F1.
- 1:35:56He is just, he's awesome.
- 1:35:58I love Botas.
- 1:35:58Thought it was hilarious.
- 1:35:59Cause Tanya goes, that man needs to get a haircut.
- 1:36:01And I said, I'm glad you mentioned that because there's an Instagram video.
- 1:36:06He needs to shave that mustache off.
- 1:36:08It's so nasty.
- 1:36:09That's the point.
- 1:36:10I know it is.
- 1:36:11Have you seen the whole thing now?
- 1:36:13The gimmick with his stunt double who looks nothing like him?
- 1:36:18I just saw a thing of him doing.
- 1:36:20I think I actually coincidentally also in Australia because
- 1:36:23he's very big into stunts.
- 1:36:24Cycling as well.
- 1:36:25Um, and he, and he competes in a lot of different races
- 1:36:28and nude swimming in creeks.
- 1:36:29And he was doing no, it was a nude bike.
- 1:36:31It was quote nude.
- 1:36:32Like he was just in his underwear and he was like, everybody was just like in their
- 1:36:36underwear, basically doing this bike ride.
- 1:36:38I was like, Oh my God.
- 1:36:39Also one that sucks.
- 1:36:40Cause the underwear don't think was padded.
- 1:36:43So that's rough bike ride.
- 1:36:44Have fun with that.
- 1:36:46Some guys like that.
- 1:36:48Yes.
- 1:36:48He was sporting his mustache and living his best life naked on his bike.
- 1:36:53Bicycle.
- 1:36:54Bicycle.
- 1:36:55Bicycle.
- 1:36:57And I think his stunt double, her stunt dude must've been with him because there
- 1:37:00was another guy like next to him on a bicycle that looked a lot like him.
- 1:37:04Yes, that's the guy.
- 1:37:05Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 1:37:08Aw, but this is a good follow on social media.
- 1:37:11He's good stuff.
- 1:37:12He is entertaining, that's for sure.
- 1:37:13See, I keep up with Formula.
- 1:37:15I want to keep up with the right stuff and the stuff that matters.
- 1:37:19Bodice's haircut.
- 1:37:20That's this is the podcast that we should be having.
- 1:37:23This is Bodice's fashion and haircut.
- 1:37:25There you go.
- 1:37:25Hey, there are podcasts out there that built themselves around that
- 1:37:28whole principle of not throwing it.
- 1:37:30I know they've been former guests and they are no longer producing shows.
- 1:37:36So that's that.
- 1:37:37Oh, they're not.
- 1:37:38No, they are off the air.
- 1:37:39Did you miss them?
- 1:37:40They retired at the end of the season.
- 1:37:42They're done.
- 1:37:42So sad.
- 1:37:43So Botas Perez is out.
- 1:37:45He doesn't have a seat.
- 1:37:46Nope.
- 1:37:47Okay, he's out.
- 1:37:47Bye.
- 1:37:48Going into this season Verstappen's teammate is going to be Lawson?
- 1:37:52Yep.
- 1:37:52How's that going to work?
- 1:37:53If the guy holds his ego in check, should work out fine.
- 1:37:57He's got to be a team player.
- 1:37:58By team player, Max Verstappen is number one.
- 1:38:01Yeah.
- 1:38:02And you do everything to protect him and he'll always be in front of you.
- 1:38:05So it's Shumi and Barrichello all over again.
- 1:38:07I get it.
- 1:38:07We got Lawson moved to Red Bull.
- 1:38:10We got Carlos Saenz went to Haas.
- 1:38:12Yes.
- 1:38:12No.
- 1:38:13Williams.
- 1:38:13He went to Williams.
- 1:38:14Okay.
- 1:38:15And then Hamilton went to Ferrari and Leclerc is still at Ferrari.
- 1:38:18Yes.
- 1:38:18Are any new drivers coming in for this season?
- 1:38:21Yes.
- 1:38:21A couple.
- 1:38:22There's a lot of youngins with no experience.
- 1:38:25Are they driving for Audi, Gazoo, or Andretti at any point?
- 1:38:29In 2025, even though it's Audi, it's still Sauber for 2025.
- 1:38:33They'll officially be Audi in 2026.
- 1:38:35And so Audi has brought on Nico Hulkenberg.
- 1:38:39They moved him from Haas and he's going to be the Audi driver
- 1:38:42in 2026, but he's already going to sit in the Sauber next year.
- 1:38:45And then they brought in a Brazilian driver, Gabriel Bortoletto,
- 1:38:49who's the other number two chair.
- 1:38:51So speaking of Audi, what is this that they were looking to sell out their
- 1:38:55investment and get out of Formula One before they even got started?
- 1:38:57Is that true?
- 1:38:58Is that crap.
- 1:38:59I think it's crap because if you go on Audi's website, they have a
- 1:39:02whole page dedicated to Formula One talking about their entrance in 2026
- 1:39:07and that they also, I think they got some Qatar investment money as well.
- 1:39:11And there is still rumor on the street and I brought it up because I wish
- 1:39:14them the best that Andretti and GM are coming to Formula One at some point.
- 1:39:20So, Cadillac's coming to Formula One.
- 1:39:22Which is General Motors.
- 1:39:23Right.
- 1:39:24That was, I think, Greenlit.
- 1:39:27If it isn't, it's about to be.
- 1:39:29It might not be completely complete.
- 1:39:31It seems like it's actually going to happen versus the Andretti one,
- 1:39:34which is just, it makes no sense.
- 1:39:36That doesn't mean that Andretti can't come along with General Motors.
- 1:39:40I mean, pretty much.
- 1:39:41And then at some point General Motors says Have you met Michael?
- 1:39:45And then passes the baton and then Andretti's in Formula One.
- 1:39:47I mean, what is this backdoor nonsense that we're doing?
- 1:39:49I don't know.
- 1:39:50Because there's also been talks about like, Oh, maybe Perez will
- 1:39:52come back and could race for like Cadillac, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:39:55Okay, we'll see.
- 1:39:56What year is that going to happen?
- 1:39:57I think they're trying to do it for 2026.
- 1:40:00Okay.
- 1:40:01Yeah.
- 1:40:01Because that's when the rule, there's a rule change that's happening in 2026.
- 1:40:04So that's why then, take an engine for something.
- 1:40:06So that's when Audi can officially come in.
- 1:40:08Apparently Andretti is scaling back his role in the team and in the
- 1:40:11organization, which I guess that is.
- 1:40:14Making F1 more accepting of having all this happen.
- 1:40:18So you drop back and you punt and then burst down.
- 1:40:22It also says that Cadillac's motors aren't going to be ready until 2028.
- 1:40:27So it's going to be a GM branded car with a different engine supplier.
- 1:40:32How funny would be, it was a Ford.
- 1:40:36Yeah, or it's a Honda with a GM badge, which was the Porsche thing, right?
- 1:40:39Where it was going to be a Honda engine with a Porsche badge.
- 1:40:42It's like, whatever.
- 1:40:43When do they reveal the new cars that look just like the cars from the year before?
- 1:40:47That's in, I think February.
- 1:40:50Yeah.
- 1:40:51It starts like into January.
- 1:40:52There's a whole schedule out there of the team reveals and stuff.
- 1:40:56Are we still doing Visa cash apps?
- 1:40:58State Chipotle MoneyGram.
- 1:41:00Like, is that all like a thing or have all the teams changed again?
- 1:41:02Wasn't that Audi now?
- 1:41:03They're KickSauber or whatever.
- 1:41:06MoneyGram was Haas.
- 1:41:07Visa, CashApp, blah, blah, blah is now RacingBulls.
- 1:41:10Toro Rosso.
- 1:41:11But RacingBulls.
- 1:41:13AlphaTari.
- 1:41:14It was AlphaTari.
- 1:41:15Then it was.
- 1:41:15Something, I don't know, it was Alpha Tauri Toro Rosso, Visa
- 1:41:18Cash App, something, something, and now it's Racing Bulls.
- 1:41:22Why do they need to keep changing the name?
- 1:41:24All right, all that aside, is Okan back or not?
- 1:41:26He's us.
- 1:41:28Terrible.
- 1:41:29All right, that's all I needed to know.
- 1:41:30I'm rooting for Okan.
- 1:41:31Okan's going to take it this year.
- 1:41:33He's going to take all of them.
- 1:41:34Okan?
- 1:41:35Yeah, right.
- 1:41:36That's my prediction.
- 1:41:37He's going to take them all out.
- 1:41:39Yeah, exactly.
- 1:41:41Take out his partner.
- 1:41:49Well, let's switch gears here in motor sports news.
- 1:41:52We could talk about formula one all night.
- 1:41:53I'm not going to talk about WRC, but I am.
- 1:41:56So here's the deal.
- 1:41:572025 schedule has been released.
- 1:41:59WRC kicks off the end of January with rally Monte Carlo.
- 1:42:03That's just a traditional event.
- 1:42:04They've been doing it forever, but here's the cool part.
- 1:42:07Rally has a tendency to switch it up.
- 1:42:09On us kind of unannounced, which is kind of cool.
- 1:42:12So this year we have three new rallies on the docket, the Canary
- 1:42:17islands, which are in Spain.
- 1:42:18And those look really awesome.
- 1:42:19You have rally Paraguay and then rally Saudi Arabia.
- 1:42:23So that's replacing things like rally Mexico and some of the others.
- 1:42:26So they, they mix it up every couple of years.
- 1:42:28So the new official 2025 schedule is out.
- 1:42:30They're running in 14 locations this year over the course of,
- 1:42:33you know, January to December.
- 1:42:34And so I'm excited to see the new cars rallies, always a blast.
- 1:42:38And that's all I'll talk about it for the next 12 months.
- 1:42:41And the Canary islands aren't actually in.
- 1:42:43Spain.
- 1:42:44They're off the coast of Africa.
- 1:42:45Considered Spanish.
- 1:42:46They're Spanish.
- 1:42:47It's a Spanish territory.
- 1:42:48Yeah, they're off the coast of Africa.
- 1:42:50Yeah, they're off the coast of Morocco.
- 1:42:52I've been there.
- 1:42:52Oh, there you go.
- 1:42:54Boom.
- 1:42:54Did you know I've been to Germany?
- 1:42:56What is it that place for the Olympics that was France?
- 1:42:59But it was like halfway around the world.
- 1:43:01It's the same.
- 1:43:01Yeah.
- 1:43:01It's a French territory.
- 1:43:03Yeah.
- 1:43:03It's still France.
- 1:43:04Oh, French Polynesia was, that's where they had to do the surfing there.
- 1:43:08Cause there's no surfing in the Mediterranean.
- 1:43:10As far as they're concerned, it's France.
- 1:43:11So Canary islands, that's Spain.
- 1:43:13It's Spanish.
- 1:43:14Speaking of rally, Tanya, you've been keeping up with the R4 division of Dakar.
- 1:43:19Very lightly since there was in the Dakar classics rally.
- 1:43:23There were four vintage quattros that were entered in and they
- 1:43:27actually all four finished.
- 1:43:29The top finisher was 31st.
- 1:43:31The other three cars I think were like in the 50s and then I think
- 1:43:35one of them was like the 60s range.
- 1:43:37I think the last stage before the final stage they were higher up as high as 28.
- 1:43:41It was a couple more places, but the other cars were actually up in the 30s as well.
- 1:43:45So something must have happened.
- 1:43:46I guess in the last stage, or I guess when they average everything out across all the
- 1:43:49stages, that's where they, they shook out.
- 1:43:51So they had a couple of bad stages in there, but that's still pretty good.
- 1:43:54Glad to see that all four of them survived the whole thing.
- 1:43:57What I really want to know is what's the next newest Audi that beat them?
- 1:44:01Because that's the car that they enter next year.
- 1:44:03Oh yeah.
- 1:44:05I don't think there were any other ones in this one.
- 1:44:07Like, they were it.
- 1:44:08Well, by the time you listen to this, Rolex will be over.
- 1:44:11I hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl of Racing.
- 1:44:14Meanwhile, in the virtual world, new title is coming out that you
- 1:44:17should put on your Steam wishlist.
- 1:44:19Check out JDM Drift Masters.
- 1:44:22I've been reading about this.
- 1:44:23I've been looking at the videos.
- 1:44:24I saw some stuff on social media.
- 1:44:26I've never been into a drift, I'll call it game, sim, whatever, before.
- 1:44:31I think this actually looks really cool.
- 1:44:33I'm really interested in it.
- 1:44:34It's another one of these sort of open world, like test drive, solar crown, like
- 1:44:39a set of courses that Evo is turning into.
- 1:44:41It's like, Hey, go drive, have fun, build cars, you know, need for
- 1:44:44speed, underground type of mentality.
- 1:44:47And so I'm looking into that.
- 1:44:48I did purchase.
- 1:44:50And I played it a little bit.
- 1:44:52I think the weirdest part about that Simcade is that you drive on the
- 1:44:57same side of the road that you would drive in Hong Kong, which is opposite
- 1:45:00of everywhere else in the world, except for a couple other countries.
- 1:45:03So that's a little bit you have to get used to.
- 1:45:06And then I did also pick up the early access to Assetto Corsa
- 1:45:10Evo, which it's coming along.
- 1:45:11It's still full of bugs.
- 1:45:13They've got a really aggressive release schedule to get it out there right now.
- 1:45:16There is no ability to drive this.
- 1:45:19Alleged, you know, 1300 square miles or whatever the heck it is in
- 1:45:22the Nürburgring and all the stuff.
- 1:45:24It's like, here's a handful of tracks and here's a couple of cars and get used to
- 1:45:27the physics engine, which really isn't too different than ACC at the end of the day.
- 1:45:31I also got to try AC Evo when I was at PRI and I got to try different sim rigs.
- 1:45:37They had a whole Sim area at PRI and David Middleton from MIE Racing and I even got
- 1:45:42to test on Dallara's bespoke one off sim that they built, which was super cool.
- 1:45:47And then we got invited to actually take a look at the car that it was modeled on.
- 1:45:51I actually got to sit in that Roadster, which is pretty slick.
- 1:45:53So lots of really neat stuff coming in the sim side of racing.
- 1:45:58And then if you haven't been paying attention during the winter break, we
- 1:46:01actually adopted another show on the NPN.
- 1:46:03So you can listen to screen to.
- 1:46:05by Inet Esports, and you can hear from sim racers who are also racers
- 1:46:11in real life, and they go back and forth and talk about their different
- 1:46:14experiences and the race they've been in, the sim racing that they're doing.
- 1:46:16And we just had some of the ladies from Inet Esports run at Daytona as well.
- 1:46:22So there's an episode that precedes this one where you can
- 1:46:25listen to their experiences.
- 1:46:28A lot of really cool stuff coming in the SIM world and happening in the SIM world.
- 1:46:31So it's something you should be paying attention to because there's
- 1:46:33a lot of up and coming drivers that are coming through those types of
- 1:46:37programs and finding themselves F1 Academy and places like that.
- 1:46:40So lots of really, really good stuff there.
- 1:46:43So I've mentioned before our motorsports news brought to us in
- 1:46:46partnership by the international motor racing research center.
- 1:46:48I just want to note that this year they're making some changes at the center.
- 1:46:52They're going to start doing some virtual center conversations.
- 1:46:55Similar style to our evening with a legend that we do with the ACO
- 1:46:59pay attention to their newsletter.
- 1:47:02Get on their newsletter.
- 1:47:03If you're not on it, their Facebook group, things like that, then you can
- 1:47:06see what the guests are going to be.
- 1:47:08We're doing a pilot in conjunction with them in March with different panels of
- 1:47:13women coming from different disciplines of motor sport, and it's not the same old.
- 1:47:16Oh, you know, we're going to do roundy round or we're going to do this.
- 1:47:19It's like, we're going to get ladies from Trans Am.
- 1:47:21We're going to get ladies from drag racing and some other disciplines
- 1:47:24that we don't always shine a light on.
- 1:47:26Like we do open wheel racing or sports car and endurance.
- 1:47:29It's really shaping up to be a lot of fun.
- 1:47:30And I got to tip my hat to our friends at WMNA for helping us out
- 1:47:34to put all that stuff together.
- 1:47:35So some really exciting content for season six of break fix.
- 1:47:40And for the NPN, as we move into the spring.
- 1:47:43And when racing goes back full swing.
- 1:47:45So pay attention to those virtual center conversations in 2025.
- 1:47:48And I also wanted to just remind folks, the center raises its money as a 501 C
- 1:47:54three, not for profit through sweepstakes and fundraising and things like that.
- 1:47:57Their current sweepstakes for that ZO six C eight has been shortened.
- 1:48:02So if you were looking to get in on that, you're trying to wait till the
- 1:48:05last minute, do that hair trigger eBay, buy it at the last second
- 1:48:09type of deal and hope you win.
- 1:48:11They've moved up the sweepstakes ending to February the 16th.
- 1:48:14So that'll happen somewhere in between this drive through and the next one.
- 1:48:17So you're not going to hear about this again in the next episode.
- 1:48:20So if you want to get in there and try to win that Corvette or take the cash
- 1:48:24option, jump over to racing archives.
- 1:48:26org and then click on sweepstakes in the top, right corner.
- 1:48:34Well, Brad, that about wraps it up.
- 1:48:36Let's take her home.
- 1:48:37As a reminder, you can find tons of upcoming local shows and events at the
- 1:48:41Ultimate Reference for Car Enthusiasts.
- 1:48:43CollectorCarGuide.
- 1:48:44net This is our last HPD Junkie Trackside Report.
- 1:48:48I don't know if you heard, we wrote an article about it.
- 1:48:51HPDJunkie.
- 1:48:52com is closed.
- 1:48:54Dave Peters has retired from racing and he has closed up shop.
- 1:48:58He's selling his Miata.
- 1:48:59He's getting out of the game.
- 1:49:00And so our source for all things track related, you know, to make it easy
- 1:49:05to find stuff is no longer available.
- 1:49:08So what we're doing is to the best of our ability.
- 1:49:12Over on the GTM clubhouse website, we're trying to absorb at least
- 1:49:15track data and event scheduling information for stuff up and down the
- 1:49:19east coast where we tend to frequent.
- 1:49:22And we're going to put that on our calendar with all the details.
- 1:49:24Now, unfortunately, none of us have the bandwidth to do what Dave
- 1:49:29was doing, but if you have events.
- 1:49:30That you know of that you want to get on our calendar.
- 1:49:33We'll gladly put them out there and help you promote it.
- 1:49:35And, you know, we're going to focus in on the groups that, you know, we're
- 1:49:37associated with, you know, HOD, SCCA, CHIN, PCA, and so on down the line.
- 1:49:42We've already got 70 events listed on our motorsports calendar.
- 1:49:46For HPD on this side of the country.
- 1:49:48So look to club.
- 1:49:50gt motorsports.
- 1:49:51org and then click on events to look more into that.
- 1:49:53We'll do the best we can.
- 1:49:55All I can say for advice is you can go to motorsport reg, but you're going to be
- 1:49:59limited to the groups that participate in motorsport reg, and that's not going to
- 1:50:03be the chins and the hooked on drivings because they have their own systems.
- 1:50:06So your best bet these days is to go to the calendar.
- 1:50:10Of your local racetrack or the racetracks are interested in visiting.
- 1:50:14You know, maybe you want to make a trip to VIR or road Atlanta, go to
- 1:50:17their calendar and see who's running during the year or during the month.
- 1:50:21Now I will say tracks tend to be a little bit slow to come up to
- 1:50:25speed on who's going to be there.
- 1:50:27But.
- 1:50:27They are contractually obligated to put that information out once
- 1:50:31they've confirmed the bookings with those organizations.
- 1:50:34Right now we're in a state of transition, a little bit of state of limbo.
- 1:50:37So it's unfortunate, but if you're an HPD junkie, we adapt and overcome.
- 1:50:42I will also say.
- 1:50:43For any of these clubs, if you know of a club or an organization that you
- 1:50:48have run with in the past or want to run with, most of them have mailing
- 1:50:52lists, you can get on their mailing list and they'll send things out.
- 1:50:55I still get things for Chen all the time and HOD Audi club, North America.
- 1:51:00So get on the mailing list of the organizations that, you know, run
- 1:51:03where you like to run and they'll update you with when, when they
- 1:51:06have track confirmations as well.
- 1:51:08And don't forget, if you're looking for that extra special something to
- 1:51:12make your garage, office, den, or man cave just a little bit extra, be sure
- 1:51:16to check out GarageStyleMagazine.
- 1:51:18com for a list of upcoming auctions and events, along with a curated list of items
- 1:51:22going up for sale all over the country.
- 1:51:24Because after all, what doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:51:27And I have to add to that, Brad, just a quick note.
- 1:51:30We were saddened to hear that John Kramer, former guest on our show
- 1:51:34BreakFix, and the voice of Mecham Auctions, passed away during the
- 1:51:39Kissimmee Mecham event here in January.
- 1:51:42So if you want to hear his life story, how he got to become the voice of
- 1:51:46Mecham and tune in to his encyclopedic knowledge of classic cars and all that,
- 1:51:51and go behind the scenes with John, we seem to have a treasure trove for
- 1:51:55people to, you know, celebrate his life and learn all that kind of stuff.
- 1:51:58Our episode originally aired on November the 8th of 2023, but
- 1:52:02it is actually a three parter with multiple behind the scenes.
- 1:52:05So you can actually see John, see the videos he took us on tour
- 1:52:08at Monterey, all sorts of stuff.
- 1:52:10And then obviously there's the final edited version that you can
- 1:52:12listen to over and over and over again on your favorite podcast app.
- 1:52:15So if you jump back into break fix podcast, November the 8th of 2023, you can
- 1:52:19hear John's life story in his own words.
- 1:52:22Also be sure to check out our digital magazine.
- 1:52:25We reran the article from November in issue 32.
- 1:52:29So if you'd like to leave a comment.
- 1:52:30A little bit of a time capsule or memory of John.
- 1:52:33There's been plenty of people that have been writing in the
- 1:52:35comments section of the article.
- 1:52:37So feel free to do that as well.
- 1:52:38Just hop over to gtmotorsports.

- 1:53:52And a thank you to our co host and executive producer, Tanya, who even though
- 1:53:58had technical issues tonight, she still powered through and made for a great show.
- 1:54:02So thank you, Tanya, for all your support and all the fans, friends,
- 1:54:06and family who support Grand Touring Motorsports and the Motoring Podcast
- 1:54:09Network without you, none of this.
- 1:54:12Will it be possible?
- 1:54:14That is the cover photo right there.
- 1:54:16Look at that.
- 1:54:17Don't do that to her.
- 1:54:18I wouldn't do that.
- 1:54:18We've done that to you before though.
- 1:54:20Yeah, but uh, she seems to be having a bit of a rough night anyway.
- 1:54:23I wouldn't do that to her.
- 1:54:24She's on her laptop and that sometimes has issues too.
- 1:54:28I wonder if it blue screened on her.
- 1:54:29That's what happens when your laptop just randomly shuts down
- 1:54:32and you're not even touching it.
- 1:54:34I have a nice screenshot of you.
- 1:54:35You're like.
- 1:54:37Is this thing, is this thing on?
- 1:54:39Because I don't think I ever I can hear you.
- 1:54:40You sound about the same as before.
- 1:54:42I was on mute apparently.
- 1:54:43I was saying we would be remiss.
- 1:54:45Why did she go silent?
- 1:54:46I, I don't know.
- 1:54:47What happened?
- 1:54:48She censored herself.
- 1:54:49Yeah, she censored herself.
- 1:54:51Oh, I accidentally hit the power button apparently.
- 1:54:53So what you're saying is that 20 minutes at the beginning where she didn't talk, it
- 1:54:56was because her microphone wasn't working?
- 1:54:58I'm saying it made the show better.
- 1:55:02Wow.
- 1:55:05I'm kidding.
- 1:55:05I kid, I kid, I kid, I kid, I kid, I kid, I kid, I kid.
- 1:55:09I kid, I kid.
- 1:55:09You guys ever watch that game show?
- 1:55:11On Hulu, it's called The Floor with Rob Lowe.
- 1:55:14No.
- 1:55:15The floor is lava?
