- 2:06Speaker 1: andoh start. Let's get to the radio replays from Sunday's
- 2:09Speaker 1: win over Jacksonville. After starting the season with a win
- 2:14Speaker 1: in Cleveland, the Bengals look for another in a jam
- 2:18Speaker 1: packed pay Corpse Stadium. The noise level will be deafening
- 2:22Speaker 1: today as the Bengals open the home schedule in orange
- 2:27Speaker 1: against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it is time for the
- 2:31Speaker 1: pig skin to fly. Here in the jungle horn stop
- 2:34Speaker 1: straight back to throw pressure coming his past interceptment in
- 2:39Speaker 1: the end zone. Trey Hendrickson d great pressure and the
- 2:43Speaker 1: throw went right to Dax Hill for an end zone takeaway.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Burrow in the gun with p Ryme to his left,
- 2:51Speaker 1: Jamar Chase out to the left. Three receivers, including Higgins
- 2:54Speaker 1: out to the right. Burrow looking for Chase Slamm bye touchdown.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Jamar Chase cutting inside of Tyson Campbell from the left.
- 3:04Speaker 1: He's doing the gritty and the Bengals have scored. Third
- 3:08Speaker 1: down and six. Lawrence back to throw penalty flag down
- 3:12Speaker 1: pass some of the middle is intercepted. The Bengals have
- 3:15Speaker 1: the ball Shortan battled with the pick and he's tackled
- 3:18Speaker 1: at the thirty yard line. First and ten from the
- 3:21Speaker 1: thirteen yard line at Cincinnati looks for a tying touchdown.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Browning floats it toward the end zone and it is
- 3:30Speaker 1: caught for the touchdown. Mitch Tinsley with his first NFL
- 3:36Speaker 1: catch and it goes for a touchdown in the back
- 3:39Speaker 1: right corner of the end zone. Harris snaps it back
- 3:42Speaker 1: to Browning from the pocket. He flings it deep down
- 3:44Speaker 1: the sideline, chased with a catch still on his feet,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Nacon Higgins. He'll walk into the end zone for a
- 3:51Speaker 1: Bengals touchdown. The Bengals can't flinch. I'm fourth down and five.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Hold your water.
- 4:00Speaker 1: O'clock is at five. They snap it to Trevor Lawrence.
- 4:02Speaker 1: He's looking. He throws and it's dropped. Thomas dropped it
- 4:07Speaker 1: at the three. I can't believe that Jacksonville did not
- 4:12Speaker 1: kick a field goal to go up by six. Now
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Bengals could force overtime with a field goal or
- 4:19Speaker 1: win the game with a touchdown. Fourth and five, Browning
- 4:22Speaker 1: to throw. He floats it high and deep for Yo Sivosh.
- 4:25Speaker 1: There's a penalty flag down Travis Hunter in coverage, Andre
- 4:34Speaker 1: yupsee Vosh interfered with in field goal range. Third down,
- 4:39Speaker 1: end goal inches away, nineteen seconds on the clock. Jake
- 4:44Speaker 1: Browning will be under center. Chase brown lines up behind.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Now Sample goes behind the quarterback and shoves him. It's
- 4:51Speaker 1: a touchdown. Shake Browning, with eighteen seconds left in regulation,
- 5:00Speaker 1: has given the Bengals their first lead all day. Jacksonville
- 5:05Speaker 1: will flood the right side of the field with wide
- 5:08Speaker 1: receivers Lawrence waiting for the shotgun snap with eighteen seconds left.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The Bengals leap by four deep top Hendrickson nails him
- 5:18Speaker 1: and that is Coffin nails Bam, bam bam, and the
- 5:24Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals are two and zero.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It wasn't easy, but they get the job done thanks
- 5:33Speaker 3: to Shake Browning fast start check as the Bengals beat
- 5:40Speaker 3: Jacksonville thirty one to twenty seven.
- 5:44Speaker 1: As you know, Joe Burrow left the game of the
- 5:46Speaker 1: toe injury at the eight thirty six mark of the
- 5:48Speaker 1: second quarter and did not return. Ian Rappaport from the
- 5:51Speaker 1: NFL Network reports that it's turf toe. We'll get more
- 5:56Speaker 1: from the Bengals on Monday, but one thing's for certain.
- 5:59Speaker 1: The Bengals can win games while he's out. Jake Browning
- 6:02Speaker 1: went four and three as a starter when Joe hurt
- 6:04Speaker 1: his wrist two years ago, and rallied the Bengals from
- 6:07Speaker 1: four different deficits in the win over Jacksonville, overcoming three
- 6:12Speaker 1: interceptions to direct the fifteen play ninety two yard drive
- 6:16Speaker 1: to win the game. He talked to Dave Lapham after the.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Victory unbelievable football game. I mean it's one of the
- 6:25Speaker 4: craziest games I've ever seen. Back and forth we go.
- 6:28Speaker 4: I mean, the Bengals take their first lead with eighteen
- 6:32Speaker 4: seconds to play, win the game by four points. I mean,
- 6:37Speaker 4: what were you thinking? What was going through your mind
- 6:39Speaker 4: when you were in the huddle quarterback in this football
- 6:41Speaker 4: team down the stretch? Really the whole time you were playing.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You were in the game a significant amount of time.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Office you were the guy. You had a hell of
- 6:48Speaker 4: a game.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I've just tried to keep a level ahead.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Obviously have some players on want bag. Not my best game,
- 6:55Speaker 5: but you know, I think the defense did a really
- 6:57Speaker 5: good job of obviously forcing turnout is our fourth down
- 7:00Speaker 5: stop was huge. And for me, it's just, you know,
- 7:04Speaker 5: especially at the end of the game, it's like, don't
- 7:06Speaker 5: shell up, like stay aggressive, you know. I mean I
- 7:08Speaker 5: threw three picks, which is pretty bad, but it's like,
- 7:12Speaker 5: all right, we got a chance to go win it, Like,
- 7:13Speaker 5: don't shell up and get tentative.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Now, like go win the game.
- 7:17Speaker 5: And so, uh that's what that's what we did.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We did.
- 7:20Speaker 5: I mean, it was really fun to play again.
- 7:23Speaker 4: That's gonna be so tough. I mean you're you're you're
- 7:26Speaker 4: getting ready to play the Jaguars. I mean, you were
- 7:28Speaker 4: in all the meetings, all the practices, are all that
- 7:30Speaker 4: sort of thing, the limited snaps with guys who were
- 7:33Speaker 4: in the huddle with trying to execute to win the
- 7:35Speaker 4: football game. How do you how do you put all
- 7:37Speaker 4: that aside? How do you focus? How do you get
- 7:40Speaker 4: your mind right to go out there and play at
- 7:42Speaker 4: the level that you played at?
- 7:44Speaker 5: I mean I go into every every game as a backup,
- 7:46Speaker 5: like going through in my head, like what's this gonna
- 7:48Speaker 5: be like if I get thrown in? Because I mean,
- 7:50Speaker 5: that's that's the point having a backup is being ready
- 7:53Speaker 5: to go. And you get thrown in, and so, uh,
- 7:56Speaker 5: you know, like I know everybody else is really shocked,
- 7:59Speaker 5: but like that's really the only thing I've prepared for
- 8:01Speaker 5: all week is getting thrown in. And so obviously unfortunately
- 8:05Speaker 5: what happened to Joe and hope he's okay. But that's
- 8:08Speaker 5: that's the purpose of having a backup is be ready
- 8:10Speaker 5: to get thrown in. And so for me, it's just
- 8:13Speaker 5: stay calm, go through reads, and stay aggressive.
- 8:16Speaker 4: You know I know that, Uh, the offensive line, they
- 8:20Speaker 4: love you and they love you and huddle, they love
- 8:22Speaker 4: what you're all about. Uh, they want to play for you.
- 8:25Speaker 4: They want to win football games with you at the
- 8:27Speaker 4: at the quarterback position. I'm sure to a man they'd
- 8:30Speaker 4: say we didn't have our best game. We didn't play
- 8:33Speaker 4: as well as we can play in front of Jake,
- 8:34Speaker 4: and we when we know we can play better and
- 8:36Speaker 4: we know we'll play better if Jake's quarterback next week,
- 8:39Speaker 4: which looks like very well could be the case, we're
- 8:41Speaker 4: gonna come out, we're gonna play better.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I didn't play great either, So I'm
- 8:46Speaker 5: not gonna sit here and say anything about the old line.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I'm pretty focused on, you know, trying to do my job.
- 8:51Speaker 5: And yeah, I think we're all tied up in here
- 8:53Speaker 5: for a while. A lot of the same guys have
- 8:55Speaker 5: been here for a while, and so you know, I
- 8:58Speaker 5: think anytime you win a game and NFL like Sundays
- 9:01Speaker 5: are are happy. But you know, I think tomorrow we
- 9:04Speaker 5: definitely got to come back and be critical of even
- 9:06Speaker 5: though there's this emotional high of making sure we make
- 9:10Speaker 5: the adjustments and improvements or any.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Me included adjustments you talk about and then discipline, what
- 9:16Speaker 4: what does it take to be disciplined enough to say,
- 9:19Speaker 4: all right, well that didn't go well. That series didn't
- 9:22Speaker 4: unfold the way I really wanted it to. You know,
- 9:24Speaker 4: made a mistake here and made a mistake there. But
- 9:26Speaker 4: you put all that aside, and there's one drive to
- 9:29Speaker 4: win a football game. One drive.
- 9:31Speaker 2: That's it.
- 9:32Speaker 4: If you don't win it, you're done. You lose the
- 9:34Speaker 4: football game. What's it like to get your mind right
- 9:36Speaker 4: to execute that in that in that stage, on that stage.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I feel fortunate to throw three picks
- 9:43Speaker 5: and still have the chance at the end of the game.
- 9:45Speaker 5: And I think it's because our defense played really well
- 9:47Speaker 5: and had some big stops, some big turnovers, and uh yeah,
- 9:51Speaker 5: I mean I think, especially in two minutes, a lot
- 9:53Speaker 5: of your base stuff and so I got a lot
- 9:55Speaker 5: of reus in that. Like, you know, I didn't practice
- 9:59Speaker 5: any of the game band players this week, but I've
- 10:01Speaker 5: been in the offense for a while, and so when
- 10:03Speaker 5: you get on the ball and call the simple you know,
- 10:04Speaker 5: basic stuff, I feel pretty good about it. And try
- 10:07Speaker 5: to stack completions like we got so many weapons, just
- 10:10Speaker 5: get them the ball.
- 10:12Speaker 4: You mentioned that you got so many weapons. Jamar Chase
- 10:14Speaker 4: t Higgins and a whole bunch of others. What's it
- 10:16Speaker 4: like to go into a football game looking in the huddle?
- 10:19Speaker 4: You got number one, Jamar Chase, number five T Higgins
- 10:21Speaker 4: looking back at you, and you know they're giving you
- 10:24Speaker 4: a smile and wink. You know they're ready to go,
- 10:25Speaker 4: They're ready to play. Well, what kind of a feeling,
- 10:28Speaker 4: a feeling of confidences that give a quarterback?
- 10:32Speaker 5: I mean, I don't really know how the Scott the Felix.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I felt confident when I went in, and you know
- 10:38Speaker 5: how they feel about it all that, you'd have to
- 10:39Speaker 5: ask them. But for me, it's just distribute the ball.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Get it to T, Jamar, my Chase, Samaji was running.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Through everybody today, Drey.
- 10:49Speaker 5: I mean, there were so many people that we have
- 10:51Speaker 5: so many weapons. It's just like, don't sit back there
- 10:54Speaker 5: with the ball forever. Just get it to them and
- 10:56Speaker 5: let them do their thing. And you know, especially especially
- 10:59Speaker 5: tomorrow and teams special I know.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And finally, this is the last question.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Zach Taylor.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I know that a couple of times, you know, you
- 11:06Speaker 4: guys talked about things and I could see, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 4: he gave you a couple of nuggets and you kind
- 11:10Speaker 4: of nodded your head and like your cool thumb up,
- 11:12Speaker 4: I got it. Kind of thing he knows as a
- 11:16Speaker 4: head coach, with you at quarterback, he does not have
- 11:19Speaker 4: to do anything differently, not a damn thing. He knows
- 11:22Speaker 4: that he can run the offense. Did you guys have
- 11:23Speaker 4: been running all week long? He knows you're gonna run
- 11:26Speaker 4: it at a very high level. He knows you're gonna
- 11:28Speaker 4: be professional. He knows you're not gonna make mistakes. He
- 11:30Speaker 4: knows you're gonna get all your teammates involved. What's what's
- 11:33Speaker 4: that feeling like when you know the head coach has
- 11:35Speaker 4: that much confidence in you.
- 11:37Speaker 5: I mean, I think the main thing is, like I've
- 11:39Speaker 5: said a few times, got through three picks and I
- 11:41Speaker 5: never felt like he lost as cool. I mean, I've
- 11:44Speaker 5: never seen him lose the school ever. And so when
- 11:48Speaker 5: you get thrown into a game and kind of a
- 11:49Speaker 5: tough situation, you know, it's not surprising that we always,
- 11:52Speaker 5: you know, generally do all these games and final way
- 11:56Speaker 5: to stick around because our head coach never loses his school.
- 11:59Speaker 5: So I throw my third pick. It looks like we
- 12:01Speaker 5: just lost the game, and he's still just steady. And
- 12:04Speaker 5: so as a quarterback. It's like the nicest thing ever
- 12:06Speaker 5: where you know, not making my job any harder by
- 12:09Speaker 5: screaming at me on the sideline or anything. And so
- 12:11Speaker 5: probably deserved it, but it was nice that he didn't.
- 12:13Speaker 5: He's like, hey, next play, here we go. And you
- 12:15Speaker 5: just feel like that's steady calmness that allows you to
- 12:18Speaker 5: play like that, And so I think it goes to
- 12:19Speaker 5: the whole staff, but it really starts with Zach Jake.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Unbelievable game.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Go home, rest up, get some get some good grub,
- 12:27Speaker 4: get some rest. You deserve, man, well.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Earn and well deserved.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Appreciate it.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Jake completed twenty one out of thirty two passes, that's
- 12:35Speaker 1: sixty six percent for two hundred and forty one yards,
- 12:39Speaker 1: with two touchdown throws and the game winning touchdown run.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And Jamar Chase had an incredible game with fourteen catches
- 12:47Speaker 1: for one hundred and sixty five yards and a touchdown
- 12:50Speaker 1: a few feet away from Browning in the locker room.
- 12:53Speaker 1: The Bengals offensive linemen were more subdued. It's a terrible
- 12:57Speaker 1: feeling when your quarterback leaves with an injury, and that
- 13:00Speaker 1: feeling is ten times worse when that quarterback. Is Joe
- 13:04Speaker 1: Burrow finally coming off a normal training cap. Here's my
- 13:08Speaker 1: conversation with team captain Ted Karris, Ted, that's a heck
- 13:13Speaker 1: of a win. What can you say about Jake Browning
- 13:15Speaker 1: and the resiliency that he showed today.
- 13:17Speaker 6: I mean, anytime he comes in the game obviously is
- 13:20Speaker 6: not something we want, but when he comes in, he
- 13:24Speaker 6: wins ball games for us.
- 13:25Speaker 2: So I'm no fear, no panic, and got it done.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That's that's my guy.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Give us inside the huddle, feel you take over it
- 13:33Speaker 1: your own. Eight three forty two to go, needing a
- 13:36Speaker 1: field goal. What's the talk, what's the mood? How did
- 13:40Speaker 1: you guys attack that final drive?
- 13:43Speaker 6: You know, I told everyone at halftime they were really
- 13:47Speaker 6: they were going off our calls, so there was no
- 13:50Speaker 6: more calls being called.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So everyone just know what to do.
- 13:54Speaker 6: Everyone really responded, and I just had a feeling we're
- 13:56Speaker 6: gonna win the game.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I tried to feel, you know, whatever that energy he
- 14:00Speaker 2: was and we went and got it done on a
- 14:02Speaker 2: QB SNEA. So very proud of the guys today.
- 14:05Speaker 1: There are a lot of quarterbacks that come off the
- 14:07Speaker 1: bench for somebody like Joe Burrow and lead ninety two
- 14:11Speaker 1: yard drives in the final four minutes. Do you feel
- 14:14Speaker 1: like you have the best backup quarterback in the NFL.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I think that's pretty obvious, you know.
- 14:19Speaker 6: I think he's obviously a starter in the league, and
- 14:22Speaker 6: we're blessed to have good depth there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Really sucks that we have to test it. So hope
- 14:27Speaker 2: Joe's okay. We'll see him tomorrow.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Is the joy muted by the fact that he had
- 14:32Speaker 1: to exit the second quarter.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Absolutely, it's the best player in the world.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You're two and oh. Everybody talked about a fast start.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Neither game was easy, but the bottom line is you're
- 14:43Speaker 1: the only team in the AFC North off to a
- 14:45Speaker 1: two and oh start. What's the satisfaction level there?
- 14:49Speaker 6: You know, I just want to go three to zero
- 14:50Speaker 6: against a good Minnesota team that we got to go
- 14:52Speaker 6: up there, so.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Gotta go get it done. So we're gonna go watch
- 14:56Speaker 2: this film. First half was a nightmare, and h luckily
- 15:01Speaker 2: we all responded. No one, you know, no one flinched,
- 15:03Speaker 2: So you know, we'll get back tomorrow and watch this
- 15:07Speaker 2: and figure out what's next.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Congrats on the win.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Now let's hear from head coach Zach Taylor, who spent
- 15:15Speaker 1: four minutes with lap after the game.
- 15:19Speaker 4: It was a crazy game, back and forth it went.
- 15:22Speaker 4: You took your first lead with eighteen seconds to play.
- 15:24Speaker 4: That's that's mind boggling. I've never been in a situation
- 15:28Speaker 4: like that as a player, high school, college, or NFL
- 15:30Speaker 4: where trailed the whole game and just stayed after it.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Showed the guts and determination to stay after a discipline
- 15:37Speaker 4: and then take the lead and win the game with
- 15:39Speaker 4: eighteen seconds to play. What does that mean to you
- 15:41Speaker 4: as a head coach?
- 15:42Speaker 5: Well, just a halftime.
- 15:43Speaker 7: We're sitting there down seventeen to ten, and I just
- 15:46Speaker 7: told the guys, this is a great opportunity for us
- 15:48Speaker 7: to be in right now, and we'll find out what
- 15:50Speaker 7: this team has made of early in the year. I'd
- 15:52Speaker 7: rather find out earlier than late. And so all they
- 15:55Speaker 7: did was respond and find the way to get us
- 15:57Speaker 7: a win late and really proud of these guys.
- 16:00Speaker 4: So different players obviously stepped up for you on different
- 16:05Speaker 4: levels areas of the football team, offense, defense, and special teams.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Give us your take as you reflect back on the
- 16:11Speaker 4: football game on guys that had special performances for you.
- 16:14Speaker 7: Too many to truthfully name Jamar obviously stands out. We're
- 16:18Speaker 7: gonna find as many ways to get Jamar chase the
- 16:19Speaker 7: ball as possible because it always pays off for us.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Mitch Tinsley with his first career catch, first career touchdown
- 16:25Speaker 7: on a run play that Jacob I heard if he
- 16:26Speaker 7: had the confidence, Jake's confidence and given Andrea one on
- 16:30Speaker 7: one up fourth down on the last drive to draw
- 16:31Speaker 7: a DPI, changing the route to go to him, the
- 16:36Speaker 7: lineman stepping up and protecting in the second half and
- 16:38Speaker 7: giving Jake an opportunity there in the second half to
- 16:40Speaker 7: help us go win the game with the clean pocket defensively,
- 16:43Speaker 7: just Dax Hill and Jordan Battle creating two turnovers for
- 16:46Speaker 7: us in huge situations, the whole defense rising up after
- 16:49Speaker 7: a sudden change that was going to end the game
- 16:51Speaker 7: down there in the ten yard line and getting a
- 16:53Speaker 7: stop on fourth down that allowed us to go score
- 16:56Speaker 7: touchdown and win the game, not tye go win the game.
- 16:58Speaker 7: And so really proud all and their kickoff return team,
- 17:02Speaker 7: and we're getting a great yardage on the kickoff return
- 17:03Speaker 7: with all those guys out there. So just overall really
- 17:07Speaker 7: pleased with the way the coaches and the players finish
- 17:09Speaker 7: the game.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Were you surprised that the Jaguars went forward on fourth down?
- 17:14Speaker 7: I think Liam, you know, he's got a new staff
- 17:16Speaker 7: and he's setting a tone for his team that we're
- 17:18Speaker 7: gonna be aggresive and go win the game. And sometimes
- 17:20Speaker 7: that's I've lived that life. Sometimes at backfires on you,
- 17:23Speaker 7: and that's just that's part of coaching. And again, if
- 17:26Speaker 7: they convert there, it's a ten point game, the game's
- 17:28Speaker 7: over and it's a great decision. And when they don't,
- 17:31Speaker 7: he'll he'll catch his heat for it. But Liam, Liam's
- 17:33Speaker 7: a great coach. I mean, two games in, he's got
- 17:35Speaker 7: the team playing the way. He's already got a plan.
- 17:37Speaker 7: So again, that's the team that's gonna have a great
- 17:39Speaker 7: year coming out of the AFC South. They got a
- 17:41Speaker 7: chance to win that division just after playing them one time.
- 17:43Speaker 7: They got great coaches and players, got a lot of
- 17:45Speaker 7: respect for that group. And so again it's just proud
- 17:48Speaker 7: of our guys were the ones that rose up and
- 17:49Speaker 7: made a play and gave the offense the ball.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Bet.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I know you're not a doctor, and I know you
- 17:53Speaker 4: don't talk about injuries with Joe Burrow, pretty important guy.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I mean he's a big player with the football team.
- 17:59Speaker 4: There's saying as to toe injury you is there anything
- 18:02Speaker 4: else you can further information?
- 18:04Speaker 1: No, I really don't.
- 18:04Speaker 7: You know, We'll just we'll figure out more information later.
- 18:07Speaker 4: And what about the upcoming opponent? You can go three
- 18:10Speaker 4: and oh in the National Football League. H that's not
- 18:14Speaker 4: easily done. That takes takes a lot, takes a lot
- 18:16Speaker 4: of resolve, takes a lot of discipline, a lot of desire, execution,
- 18:20Speaker 4: I mean all kinds of things. What will it take
- 18:23Speaker 4: for your football team to go three and oh.
- 18:25Speaker 7: True resilience. This is going to be maybe the lottest
- 18:27Speaker 7: environment we'll ever plan, you know, going on the road
- 18:29Speaker 7: to Minnesota. I don't know what the record. I don't
- 18:32Speaker 7: know if they've already played it they or not, but
- 18:33Speaker 7: they played at night, so we'll see. We know we're
- 18:36Speaker 7: gonna get their best. They got a great coaching staff,
- 18:38Speaker 7: really good players. They make life really difficult for you
- 18:40Speaker 7: with their defense. We'll put together a great plan and
- 18:42Speaker 7: go attack them and work come being three and oh.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Heck of a football game two and oh start. You
- 18:47Speaker 4: can't ask for anything better. Did you feel like during
- 18:51Speaker 4: the course of training camp this might be a special group.
- 18:54Speaker 7: I know we have a lot of special players, and
- 18:55Speaker 7: it's how are they going to come together that remains
- 18:58Speaker 7: to be seen. Training camp is easy in the sense
- 19:00Speaker 7: that there's not a lot of real adversity. Now we
- 19:03Speaker 7: face real adversity the last two weeks, and then I've
- 19:05Speaker 7: seen how this team response to that, and so I'm
- 19:08Speaker 7: happy to pack them up and take them on the
- 19:09Speaker 7: road next week to Minnesota.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Two weeks into the season, the Bengals are alone on
- 19:14Speaker 1: top of the AFC North with their two to zero record.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The Ravens are one and one after a forty one
- 19:19Speaker 1: to seventeen win over Cleveland, The Steelers are one and
- 19:22Speaker 1: one after losing by fourteen at home to the Seahawks,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and the Browns are zero to two. The Bengals Booth

- 19:46Speaker 1: the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time for
- 19:50Speaker 1: the radio guys recap lap I feel like I can
- 19:54Speaker 1: safely say the Bengals not only have arguably the best
- 19:58Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFL, but they arguably have the best
- 20:02Speaker 1: backup quarterback in the NFL. It wasn't perfect, Jake Browning
- 20:05Speaker 1: threw three picks, but when you can take a team
- 20:08Speaker 1: on a fifteen play ninety two yard drive in the
- 20:11Speaker 1: final three minutes and forty two seconds to win a game,
- 20:14Speaker 1: there aren't many guys that can do that.
- 20:16Speaker 4: I agree. I mean that takes guts, determination, savvy confidence.
- 20:23Speaker 4: He's got a tremendous amount of confidence. I mean, you
- 20:27Speaker 4: have to believe in yourself, and Jake brown believes in himself.
- 20:30Speaker 4: There's no doubt. If you don't believe in yourself, it
- 20:33Speaker 4: doesn't matter if everybody else does. You got to be
- 20:35Speaker 4: the one to step up first and say, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 4: I know I can get this done. I've done it before,
- 20:40Speaker 4: I can do it again. And the thing that impressed
- 20:43Speaker 4: me the most as a form alignment, if you're seeing
- 20:47Speaker 4: him come into the huddle the way he does, total poise,
- 20:50Speaker 4: extremely calm, very matter of fact. Guys, were gonna get
- 20:54Speaker 4: this done, and here's how we're gonna do it. I mean,
- 20:56Speaker 4: you respond to a guy like that, and they do.
- 20:58Speaker 4: They respond to Jake brown They like him, They like
- 21:01Speaker 4: him as a person, they love him as a as
- 21:03Speaker 4: a quarterback. They love the way he leads the football team.
- 21:07Speaker 4: He's a guy that knows his role, doesn't try to
- 21:11Speaker 4: overstep uh anything or anybody. He's uh He's a great teammate,
- 21:18Speaker 4: greatest spree to core guy. He's he's all about, you know,
- 21:23Speaker 4: making sure that the team's upbeat, enthusiastic about the upcoming opponent.
- 21:27Speaker 4: And this might be his job for a few weeks.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I mean, Joe's got a too injury that those things
- 21:31Speaker 4: can be, you know, dangerous, they can be iffy, and
- 21:35Speaker 4: you don't know necessarily until you know, maybe a couple
- 21:39Speaker 4: of three days. I'm sure he's gotten an MRI I already.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I don't know what the damage has shown, if any,
- 21:46Speaker 4: but you know he's going to be off that thing
- 21:47Speaker 4: for a while. There's no doubt that's the The only
- 21:49Speaker 4: way it's going to get better is to is to
- 21:52Speaker 4: give it rest and relaxation. So it's gonna be Jake
- 21:55Speaker 4: Browning's football team. Jake's the guy for a while. And
- 21:58Speaker 4: that's the life of a backup quarterback.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Ever.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Know, when when the call is going to come. How
- 22:03Speaker 4: long the call will be? Uh, it might, it might
- 22:07Speaker 4: be for for a lot longer than you think.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Uh.
- 22:10Speaker 4: He's the kind of guy though, that it's got He's
- 22:12Speaker 4: got it in him to have a great season and
- 22:14Speaker 4: to lead the Bengals to a you know, a really
- 22:16Speaker 4: good season in the playoffs and maybe ultimately the super Bowl.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Who knows.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Hopefully Joe's not out for all that long. There's no
- 22:23Speaker 1: official word on that yet, but the last time that
- 22:26Speaker 1: Jake Browning played an extended period of time was two
- 22:28Speaker 1: years ago. Started seven games, won four. One of those
- 22:31Speaker 1: wins was a tremendous win over Jacksonville, so he's done
- 22:35Speaker 1: that twice. The next game is against Minnesota, which was
- 22:37Speaker 1: another tremendous performance by Jake in a memorable game at
- 22:41Speaker 1: pay Corp Stadium, where afterward he screamed at the cameras
- 22:44Speaker 1: to remind the Vikings that they let him go. So
- 22:47Speaker 1: he'll be facing the team that he started his NFL
- 22:50Speaker 1: career with, assuming that Joe is not back next week.
- 22:53Speaker 4: And that means something to a guy. You want to
- 22:57Speaker 4: go out and perform well against the team that believed
- 23:00Speaker 4: in you enough to bring you to their organization from
- 23:03Speaker 4: the collegiate level. And uh, believe me, you want to
- 23:06Speaker 4: beat them. You want to you want to thump them
- 23:08Speaker 4: if you possibly can. And uh, Jake Browning is gonna
- 23:12Speaker 4: want to thump the Minnesota Vikings. You can be you
- 23:15Speaker 4: can rest sured about that.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 23:17Speaker 4: He's he's competitive. That's that's the thing that I admire
- 23:21Speaker 4: about about him the most. I mean, you know, he's
- 23:24Speaker 4: not gonna feel like he's second fiddle to anybody. And
- 23:28Speaker 4: he knows he's got weapons. He knows he's got teammates
- 23:31Speaker 4: that can perform at an unbelievably high level. He knows
- 23:34Speaker 4: if he gives them the opportunity, they're going to step
- 23:36Speaker 4: up and perform for him. They're gonna win football games
- 23:39Speaker 4: for him. So, uh, he knows his role and and
- 23:43Speaker 4: he's he's good at it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: He really is.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Jamar Chase is good at his role. Fourteen catches one
- 23:49Speaker 1: off his career high, which is the Bengals single game
- 23:51Speaker 1: record one hundred and sixty five yards. Jamar has done
- 23:54Speaker 1: better than that before, but it's still incredible, and his
- 23:57Speaker 1: first touchdown of the season. This was one of those
- 24:00Speaker 1: games where it felt like even though Jacksonville knew it
- 24:04Speaker 1: was coming and designed its defense to try and stop
- 24:08Speaker 1: it from happening. Jamar Chase just said, you know what,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'm better than you guys. I'm going to catch the ball,
- 24:13Speaker 1: drag three guys, getting extra five to ten yards, and
- 24:16Speaker 1: just keep doing it all day.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Yeah. And that's the thing with Jamar Chase. He's such
- 24:19Speaker 4: an unbelievable physical talent. He's better than everybody. He's physically
- 24:23Speaker 4: better than everybody, everybody at his position group, everybody goes
- 24:27Speaker 4: against in the defensive back position group. And you know,
- 24:31Speaker 4: to me, it didn't look like you know, when Joe
- 24:34Speaker 4: was in there, he didn't obviously, and then when Jake
- 24:37Speaker 4: went in there, Jake wasn't trying to force feed the
- 24:39Speaker 4: ball to Jamar Chase. It just was part of the
- 24:42Speaker 4: natural flow of the offense. And honestly, until I remember
- 24:47Speaker 4: a couple of times you updated the stats that Jamar
- 24:50Speaker 4: was accumulating during the course of the game, and I'm like, jeez,
- 24:53Speaker 4: that's a little bit more like, you know, I'm trying
- 24:55Speaker 4: to remember all those catches and you know, and you
- 24:58Speaker 4: can remember some, obviously, they're all great. And he plays
- 25:03Speaker 4: he plays a beautiful game of football, you know, every
- 25:06Speaker 4: catch he makes, it seems to be memorable. You know,
- 25:08Speaker 4: he always he always has something to do. He plays
- 25:11Speaker 4: with such a flare, such a panache. You know, it's like, uh,
- 25:14Speaker 4: he's he's a superstar. That's that's the bottom line. He
- 25:19Speaker 4: he he dots every eye, crosses every t that you
- 25:22Speaker 4: have to have to be a successful wide receiver from
- 25:24Speaker 4: the National Football League.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Last year, the Bengals had some breaks that didn't go
- 25:29Speaker 1: their way. Missed field goal in overtime against Baltimore, fourth
- 25:32Speaker 1: and sixteen penalty against Kansas City in Week two. Well,
- 25:35Speaker 1: we're two weeks into this season and some key breaks
- 25:38Speaker 1: have gone their way. The Browns kicker choked in Week one. Today,
- 25:43Speaker 1: fourth and five, less than two minutes to go, and
- 25:45Speaker 1: the second pick in the draft, Travis Hunter commits a
- 25:48Speaker 1: pass interference penalty on Andre Josibash to keep the Bengals alive.
- 25:52Speaker 4: The Bengals today capitalized on every mistake that was made
- 25:57Speaker 4: by the Joshuville Jaguars, and unfortunately, you know, to start
- 26:00Speaker 4: the seasons in prior years, that's what the opponent was
- 26:03Speaker 4: doing to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals and key moments
- 26:06Speaker 4: would make huge mistakes, monumental mistakes, you know, and not
- 26:12Speaker 4: be able to recover. Well, that's ultimately what Jacksonville did.
- 26:16Speaker 4: They made enough mistakes where they kept the Bengals in
- 26:18Speaker 4: the football game. I mean, they never trailed by more
- 26:22Speaker 4: than seven points. And you know that's kind of crazy
- 26:25Speaker 4: when you look at some of the numbers in the
- 26:27Speaker 4: first half, second half, you know, it was a little
- 26:29Speaker 4: bit different. But I just thought that for them to
- 26:33Speaker 4: hang in there the way they did, to show the
- 26:35Speaker 4: mental toughness that they did, the intestinal fortitude and everything
- 26:38Speaker 4: that goes along with it, I thought, you know, mentally
- 26:41Speaker 4: and physically, I think this football team has what it takes.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I think this could be a special year. You know,
- 26:47Speaker 4: I was part of a team in eighty one that
- 26:48Speaker 4: went to the Super Bowl, and was a broadcaster in
- 26:52Speaker 4: a team in eighty eight that went to the Super
- 26:54Speaker 4: Bowl and then Super Bowl fifty four here recently it's
- 26:57Speaker 4: a broadcast. So this team has what it takes. This
- 27:00Speaker 4: team has the intangibles, has the has the the things
- 27:04Speaker 4: that are needed, uh to you know, keep winning games,
- 27:08Speaker 4: keep winning at a high level, doing what's necessary to
- 27:11Speaker 4: get out of a out of a game with the
- 27:12Speaker 4: victory that he had no right doing. This is the
- 27:15Speaker 4: first example of it. I think there are going to
- 27:17Speaker 4: be a few more examples of it during the course
- 27:19Speaker 4: of this season.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Doctor Ted Karris after the game on the postgame show,
- 27:22Speaker 1: he was not joyous. When you're an offensive lineman and
- 27:26Speaker 1: you are blocking for one of the best quarterbacks in
- 27:29Speaker 1: the world, are you gutted when he exits the game?
- 27:32Speaker 1: Regardless of the outcome.
- 27:33Speaker 4: You are an offensive lineman's main job is to protect
- 27:38Speaker 4: the quarterback, and uh, you know, number nine is the
- 27:41Speaker 4: best quarterback in my mind in the National Football League,
- 27:44Speaker 4: and his lineman believed that. Obviously they think he's the best,
- 27:48Speaker 4: uh and and they want to protect him at all costs,
- 27:51Speaker 4: and when it doesn't happen, they're crushed, devastated, destroyed.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:56Speaker 4: It's an emotional it's emotional downer. I mean, it really is.
- 28:01Speaker 4: There's no other way to put it. And uh, you
- 28:04Speaker 4: know that that's probably that does not allow them to
- 28:10Speaker 4: celebrate victory because it costs them. That victory, costs them
- 28:15Speaker 4: their star quarterback and it's their fault and they're not
- 28:18Speaker 4: happy about it.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Based on what Ted was saying, it sounded like Jacksonville's
- 28:23Speaker 1: front had to read on the Bengals calls in the
- 28:27Speaker 1: first half, and they were getting good jumps as a result.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It sounded like the Bengals mixed that up in the
- 28:31Speaker 1: second half. But does that happen. Are there games where
- 28:34Speaker 1: for whatever reason, the other team kind of has a
- 28:37Speaker 1: feel for that and and consistently gets good jumps on you.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it's happened. I mean, I remember, you know, back
- 28:43Speaker 4: in the playing days, when when teams feel like from
- 28:47Speaker 4: film study, uh, and then sometimes you know, they can
- 28:50Speaker 4: pick up the audible, the sound, the audio of the
- 28:54Speaker 4: and they hear the snap count and can really you know,
- 28:57Speaker 4: get a beat on it. And there's so dam athletic,
- 29:00Speaker 4: so quick, and they're off in that ball before you know,
- 29:04Speaker 4: you can even get out of your stands. So I
- 29:07Speaker 4: think it was all of that, you know. I think
- 29:12Speaker 4: the fact that they were gifted athletically. They have a
- 29:14Speaker 4: good defensive football team. They've spent high draft picks on
- 29:17Speaker 4: their defensive front, on the defensive line, and it's paid
- 29:20Speaker 4: off for them. And I think they had a pretty
- 29:22Speaker 4: good handle on what the Bengals were doing. And then
- 29:25Speaker 4: the Bengals made some adjustments in terms of probably snap
- 29:28Speaker 4: count and how they aligned themselves formationally, personnel wise, configurations,
- 29:34Speaker 4: all of that to keep them on their heels a
- 29:37Speaker 4: little bit, because man, they were teeing off and you
- 29:40Speaker 4: just can't allow that to happen in the NFL.
- 29:43Speaker 1: If Joe Burrow's out next week, we'll see if Jake
- 29:45Speaker 1: Browning can take the Bengals on the road and lead
- 29:47Speaker 1: them to a three and oh start.
- 29:49Speaker 4: That would be magnificent. I think Jake has got what
- 29:52Speaker 4: it takes, man. I think he's all about guts, determination,
- 29:57Speaker 4: positive attitude.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Players on to him. He's a leader.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Oh put my money down on Jake Brownie.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Up next a road game against the Minnesota Vikings. That's
- 30:09Speaker 1: a one o'clock kick on Sunday with Jim Nantz and
- 30:13Speaker 1: Tony Romo on the call for CBS. Now time for
- 30:17Speaker 1: this week's fun fact segment. In last week's season Openers,
- 30:21Speaker 1: starting right guard Lucas Patrick exited the game of a
- 30:24Speaker 1: calf injury early in the second quarter, and in came
- 30:27Speaker 1: the recently signed Dalton Reisner. He had only had two
- 30:32Speaker 1: padded practices since January, but Reisner played the rest of
- 30:37Speaker 1: the game and played well, allowing just one quarterback pressure.
- 30:41Speaker 1: On twenty four passing plays. His effort drew praise from
- 30:46Speaker 1: Captain Ted Karras.
- 30:48Speaker 8: In the case of Dalton Reisner, I thought it was
- 30:50Speaker 8: one of the most stunning displays of football professionalism that
- 30:54Speaker 8: I've ever seen. Yeah, you know, I think he's been
- 30:56Speaker 8: in pads twice in eight months. And then you know,
- 30:59Speaker 8: puts puts the fifth overall pick, you know, and Handcuffs
- 31:03Speaker 8: really really had a solid game. You know, I think,
- 31:06Speaker 8: you know, Mason Graham's gonna be really good, but Dalton
- 31:09Speaker 8: came out and did we need to do so we
- 31:12Speaker 8: could rely on them, knew the communication had to handle
- 31:14Speaker 8: the silent count. I was really really happy, kind of
- 31:18Speaker 8: blown away by the amount of, like I said, professionalism
- 31:21Speaker 8: that he showed going out there helping us win a
- 31:22Speaker 8: football game.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Now, let's mate the thirty year old offensive lineman in
- 31:27Speaker 1: his seventh NFL season. Time for some fun facts with
- 31:31Speaker 1: offensive lineman Dalton Reisner from Wiggins, Colorado, a small town
- 31:35Speaker 1: about an hour away from Denver. I've read that you
- 31:39Speaker 1: grew up on a farm. Was that the case? And
- 31:41Speaker 1: do you fit the stereotype of being country strong from
- 31:45Speaker 1: working on the farm as a kid.
- 31:46Speaker 6: I'd say most definitely. You know, I always have to
- 31:49Speaker 6: say we didn't grow up on a farm. We grew
- 31:51Speaker 6: up on a ranch because we had fifty head of cattle, pigs, horses, dogs,
- 31:55Speaker 6: the whole get out, and we had one hundred acres
- 31:57Speaker 6: right and I was bull riding.
- 31:59Speaker 2: I was a bull rider up. I barrel raced.
- 32:01Speaker 6: I tried to rope calves at one point. And I
- 32:04Speaker 6: grew up working on farms. So you know farms when
- 32:07Speaker 6: it comes to wheat harvest and corn and.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Millet and you name it out there, you know.
- 32:13Speaker 6: I worked for a bunch of farmers I worked. I
- 32:15Speaker 6: worked at a dairy farm growing up as well. So
- 32:17Speaker 6: whether it was building barbarire fence, branding cattle, scoop and
- 32:22Speaker 6: poop at the dairy farm, or walk into wheat fields for.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Rye, That's what I grew up doing.
- 32:28Speaker 6: So any type of physical strength I have, I'm gonna
- 32:30Speaker 6: have to attest it to that.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Just how small is Wiggins?
- 32:34Speaker 6: Wiggins is about When I was going to school there,
- 32:37Speaker 6: it was about eight to nine hundred people in the
- 32:38Speaker 6: whole town.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I want to say it's about fifteen.
- 32:41Speaker 6: Hundred or more now I haven't looked it up, but
- 32:43Speaker 6: when I was going to school there, was one A football,
- 32:45Speaker 6: so it was the slow It was the smallest classification
- 32:47Speaker 6: of eleven man football. There were seventeen guys on my
- 32:49Speaker 6: football team. So I was on kickoff, kick return, punt return,
- 32:53Speaker 6: I was linebacker on defense. You played every single way,
- 32:56Speaker 6: so up until college, I was like, oh, I only
- 32:57Speaker 6: have to play one way.
- 32:58Speaker 2: This is wild. So you had to be in very
- 33:01Speaker 2: good shape.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Obviously the level of athleticism wasn't very good at the
- 33:05Speaker 6: one A level, but regardless, that's how small it was.
- 33:08Speaker 2: There's no stoplights, one.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Restaurant, count two if you count the chicken tenders at
- 33:12Speaker 6: the gas station, which I love. The chicken tenders at
- 33:15Speaker 6: the gas station, stubs, gas and oil shout out. Other
- 33:18Speaker 6: than that, there is a hardware store, a school, and
- 33:23Speaker 6: all the farmers and ranchers that live in the town.
- 33:25Speaker 6: That's about it, man, that's the size of Wiggins.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Your dad was your coach in high school? Did he
- 33:30Speaker 1: treat you like everybody else? Or was he especially hard
- 33:33Speaker 1: on you?
- 33:33Speaker 6: To make a point, Oh, he gave me the special treatment.
- 33:36Speaker 6: And by special treatment, I don't mean he gave me anything.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Man. He was hard on me.
- 33:40Speaker 6: This is back when coaches could grab you by your
- 33:42Speaker 6: face mask and get in your face.
- 33:44Speaker 2: That's not really allowed nowadays.
- 33:46Speaker 6: But my dad created the pee wee football program in
- 33:50Speaker 6: our small town. When we moved to Wiggins, there was
- 33:52Speaker 6: no pee wee football program, so he started a peew
- 33:55Speaker 6: football program. I'm one of five boys, so I was
- 33:58Speaker 6: the third boy in line, and we all went through
- 33:59Speaker 6: the football program. When the two older boys got to
- 34:03Speaker 6: junior high, he became the junior high coach. He coached
- 34:05Speaker 6: me through junior high and by the time I was
- 34:07Speaker 6: getting to eighth grade, he wanted to become the high
- 34:09Speaker 6: school football coach in Wiggins. You have to be on
- 34:13Speaker 6: the teaching staff to be a football coach. My dad
- 34:17Speaker 6: the guy he is, and this is why he is
- 34:19Speaker 6: a full time job, right, And he goes and petitions
- 34:23Speaker 6: and gets the whole town of eight hundred people. I
- 34:24Speaker 6: think he got six hundred signatures to take to the
- 34:27Speaker 6: school board to say that they wanted him to be
- 34:29Speaker 6: their head high school football coach. And he kind of
- 34:31Speaker 6: strong armed the school board and he became the head
- 34:34Speaker 6: football coach.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Without happened to be at the school and yeah, coached
- 34:37Speaker 2: all of us five boys through high school, went to
- 34:40Speaker 2: a state championship had some success.
- 34:42Speaker 1: The voters spoke the voters. When it came time to
- 34:45Speaker 1: pick a college, you chose Kansas State, about seven hours
- 34:48Speaker 1: away yk State.
- 34:50Speaker 6: You know, Kansas State was one of those teams I
- 34:52Speaker 6: just felt like fit my mold. It was a blue
- 34:54Speaker 6: collar program. It was run by Bill Snyder at the time,
- 34:58Speaker 6: and I felt like the staff was more interested in
- 35:00Speaker 6: molding me into a young man and a follower of
- 35:04Speaker 6: Jesus and just a good human being, maybe as a
- 35:07Speaker 6: father and as a son before a football player. And
- 35:10Speaker 6: not everything glitters it glows. But I really enjoyed my
- 35:14Speaker 6: time at Kansas State. It was perfect for me. I
- 35:16Speaker 6: was a kid that needed time to grow, so I
- 35:18Speaker 6: red shirted, and you know, it was seven hours up
- 35:20Speaker 6: the road from where I lived in Wiggans, Colorado, and
- 35:22Speaker 6: it just kind of it kind of fit the mold
- 35:24Speaker 6: for a kid coming from Wiggins, Colorado.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You had a great career at Kansas State, and then
- 35:28Speaker 1: after that a dream came true in twenty nineteen in
- 35:30Speaker 1: the NFL Draft when you were selected by your childhood team,
- 35:34Speaker 1: the Denver Broncos in the second round. Describe that draft experience.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Oh was wild. I mean, I'm such a competitor.
- 35:39Speaker 6: I remember I was so ticked off that night because
- 35:41Speaker 6: I felt like I should be a first round draft pick.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Looking back, I'm like, man, you should have been jumping
- 35:45Speaker 6: up and off the walls, which I was so excited.
- 35:48Speaker 6: John Elway called me when I was at Elway's in
- 35:50Speaker 6: downtown Denver and you know, was talking about getting a flight.
- 35:52Speaker 6: I said, brother, I'm already at Elways downtown. That's why
- 35:54Speaker 6: I'm celebrating. I just got to drive thirty minutes in
- 35:56Speaker 6: the morning to get the playbooks. So for me, I
- 36:00Speaker 6: grew up in a family that didn't have much. You know,
- 36:03Speaker 6: there was a time where we were getting Christmas presents
- 36:05Speaker 6: dropped off on our doorstep.
- 36:06Speaker 2: This is way when we were.
- 36:07Speaker 6: Young, young, young, And you know, I got to go
- 36:10Speaker 6: to maybe two or three Bronco games growing up, but
- 36:12Speaker 6: it was always what I wanted to do. I mean
- 36:14Speaker 6: I remember looking down at the Broncos just being like,
- 36:16Speaker 6: that would be sick if I could do that someday.
- 36:18Speaker 2: And I was always kind of the kid that dreamed big.
- 36:20Speaker 6: So for me, when I got drafted, to like actually
- 36:23Speaker 6: put on the helmet and be a part of the
- 36:24Speaker 6: program and do it for four years and run out
- 36:27Speaker 6: of the tunnel was absolutely surreal, and that opportunity in
- 36:31Speaker 6: two weeks to go back. It won't be my first time,
- 36:33Speaker 6: but it's gonna be another cool opportunity to be back there.
- 36:36Speaker 1: How crazy was it to have John Elway as a boss? Oh?
- 36:38Speaker 2: It was wild. I mean I grew up watching the guy.
- 36:40Speaker 6: I mean that's that's the jersey that you see growing up, right,
- 36:44Speaker 6: Everyone's talking about Elway, and that's what Grandpa was talking about,
- 36:46Speaker 6: and that's who mom likes and all these different things.
- 36:49Speaker 6: And for John Elwie to be the guy that picked you,
- 36:51Speaker 6: it sure meant a lot. And I created a relationship
- 36:53Speaker 6: with him to where my time in Denver. You know,
- 36:55Speaker 6: I talked to him on the phone and we text,
- 36:57Speaker 6: and yeah, I had a lot of respect for I
- 36:58Speaker 6: have a lot of respect for him.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I read a story where you said the following, I
- 37:02Speaker 1: hope scouts watch my tape and say, Reisner must have
- 37:07Speaker 1: been ticked off. Do you become a different person on
- 37:10Speaker 1: the field? Oh?
- 37:11Speaker 2: I tried to man, I don't know when that quotes from.
- 37:13Speaker 2: That's hilarious.
- 37:14Speaker 6: But I've always tried to play with a extra level
- 37:17Speaker 6: of grit or work hards to me, But yeah, you
- 37:22Speaker 6: can't be mister nice guy when you're in a football field.
- 37:24Speaker 6: You're trying to put food on the table and the
- 37:26Speaker 6: plate for your family, and you're trying to make a
- 37:30Speaker 6: career out of the job that you're doing. And being
- 37:32Speaker 6: in the league seven years you understand, and being on
- 37:34Speaker 6: the street two weeks ago you understand how hard this
- 37:37Speaker 6: job is and you understand that it waits for nobody
- 37:40Speaker 6: and I don't care who you are, So yeah, a
- 37:43Speaker 6: level of change when you cross those white lines is
- 37:46Speaker 6: needed for a guy like me.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Offensive line is interesting in that sense because it's obviously
- 37:51Speaker 1: very physical, but there's also a tremendous x's and o's
- 37:54Speaker 1: chess match going on at that position. Which part of
- 37:56Speaker 1: it do you like more?
- 37:58Speaker 6: The easier one for me is the chess match because
- 38:01Speaker 6: it's all between the ears, and that's something you can
- 38:04Speaker 6: prep for throughout the week, and the more you study it,
- 38:06Speaker 6: the more you dial in, the more you lock in.
- 38:08Speaker 6: I feel like the more that you can edge out
- 38:10Speaker 6: your opponent mentally, the physical side sometimes, in my opinion,
- 38:14Speaker 6: it's not a work hard standpoint.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Sometimes you know.
- 38:18Speaker 6: You got the kid from Wigans, Colorado going against the
- 38:20Speaker 6: five star recruit from Gosh knows where. So I think
- 38:24Speaker 6: the physical thing, the physical side of things can be
- 38:26Speaker 6: harder at times, but that's also one that with a
- 38:29Speaker 6: great respons great responsibility comes great reward because you get
- 38:32Speaker 6: to go against these great players and when you find
- 38:34Speaker 6: yourself blocking them up, it's a great feeling too.
- 38:37Speaker 1: We're visiting with Dalton Reisner. After four years in Denver
- 38:40Speaker 1: in two years with Minnesota Vikings, you were a free
- 38:42Speaker 1: agent this past offseason and didn't sign until late August.
- 38:46Speaker 1: How did you stay ready?
- 38:48Speaker 2: Man? Great questions.
- 38:52Speaker 6: It's hard to talk about because, man, I am so
- 38:55Speaker 6: grateful for the way that I did approach things, and
- 38:58Speaker 6: so grateful for a wife that you know, supports me
- 39:01Speaker 6: each and every day, even when sometimes the dream seems
- 39:04Speaker 6: a little bit far fetched, because you know, there were
- 39:06Speaker 6: I'm waking up at six am every day and I'm
- 39:08Speaker 6: going out to my garage and I'm putting the garage
- 39:11Speaker 6: door up, and I'm doing an hour lift, and I'm
- 39:13Speaker 6: putting my cleats on. I'm walking through the neighborhood over
- 39:16Speaker 6: to the local like that. It was where the mail
- 39:20Speaker 6: boxes are in our neighborhood and there's an area between
- 39:22Speaker 6: the mailboxes and the pickleball slash basketball court and it's
- 39:26Speaker 6: about twenty yard patch of grass that gets mowed every
- 39:28Speaker 6: two weeks and sometimes the grass is up to your
- 39:31Speaker 6: past your ankles, and you know, I do fifteen to
- 39:34Speaker 6: twenty sprints every morning and then I run through inside zone,
- 39:37Speaker 6: tight zone, pass block right guard, left guard. It's about
- 39:39Speaker 6: a thirty to forty five minute deal and it's muggy
- 39:42Speaker 6: as hell.
- 39:42Speaker 2: That's why I do it at six am in Florida.
- 39:44Speaker 6: But regardless, I had this whole you know, order in
- 39:47Speaker 6: which I did things, and it was from like six
- 39:48Speaker 6: to ten in the morning, end with sauna, end with
- 39:50Speaker 6: cold tub.
- 39:51Speaker 2: And it's cool to look.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Back on because if I didn't do that every day,
- 39:55Speaker 6: no one was watching, no one cared, right, there were
- 39:56Speaker 6: times where who knows if I was going to get
- 39:58Speaker 6: picked up.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Or you didn't know your future.
- 40:00Speaker 6: So there were so many mornings where you question, why
- 40:02Speaker 6: am I doing this, you know, and is it really
- 40:04Speaker 6: gonna matter? I mean, we're in late August here, guys,
- 40:06Speaker 6: and went through a whole training camp, and you know,
- 40:08Speaker 6: if I didn't do that, there's no way in heck.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I could have stepped in against the Browns. There's just
- 40:12Speaker 2: no way.
- 40:12Speaker 6: And if I did didn't do it, I bet the
- 40:15Speaker 6: Bengals wouldn't have even trusted me too, because my workout
- 40:17Speaker 6: probably wuldn't have been good and I probably would never
- 40:19Speaker 6: have gotten signed, or I would have been here and
- 40:21Speaker 6: they knew I wouldn't.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Have been ready and they would put someone else in.
- 40:24Speaker 6: So just really grateful for a wife that supported me
- 40:27Speaker 6: through that, and for just the willpower to, you know,
- 40:30Speaker 6: do that when no one was looking.
- 40:32Speaker 1: So nobody was looking in terms of NFL teams, but
- 40:34Speaker 1: what about neighbors and passers by? Did they see this
- 40:37Speaker 1: gigantic human being doing past blocking drills against nobody?
- 40:41Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I remember, like a week before I came
- 40:43Speaker 6: out here, a guy walked by and he said, that
- 40:46Speaker 6: must be one hell of a fantasy football team you're
- 40:48Speaker 6: on and you know the human nature, and you said,
- 40:51Speaker 6: wants to bark back and say, I'm a six year
- 40:54Speaker 6: NFL vet. You know I could be on multiple teams.
- 40:57Speaker 6: I'm in contract negotiation, but get into it right, and
- 40:59Speaker 6: you just laugh.
- 41:00Speaker 2: And every morning there's the grandma's walking their dogs.
- 41:03Speaker 6: And they poop in the grass that you're working out
- 41:06Speaker 6: in and they just stare at you, and you know
- 41:07Speaker 6: they're going back and they're chattering about what's that big,
- 41:11Speaker 6: huge man doing in the grass, grunting and making all
- 41:13Speaker 6: that noise. But when you love something enough and you
- 41:17Speaker 6: care about it enough, you'll find a way.
- 41:19Speaker 1: So after two padded practices with the Bengals, you suit
- 41:22Speaker 1: it up in the season opener, and two and a
- 41:24Speaker 1: half minutes into the second quarter, Lucas Patrick suffered a
- 41:27Speaker 1: calf injury, and you're in. You're gonna play the rest
- 41:30Speaker 1: of the game. Ted Carris called it a stunning display
- 41:33Speaker 1: of football professionalism. This was your ninetieth NFL game, including
- 41:37Speaker 1: the playoffs. Is it among the most memorable in light
- 41:40Speaker 1: of the circumstances.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Oh, it's one of the most memorable. For me.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Two years ago, I signed late with the Minnesota Vikings,
- 41:46Speaker 6: and I think two weeks later I started Monday night
- 41:48Speaker 6: football against the forty nine ers. That was a absolutely
- 41:52Speaker 6: surreal experience. So that's up there, number two, the first
- 41:54Speaker 6: start in Mile High Stadium, that's up there, and then
- 41:58Speaker 6: this one is top three.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Those are all my top three.
- 42:01Speaker 6: I mean to be able to be with a different team,
- 42:03Speaker 6: different organization, guys that you barely know and step in
- 42:06Speaker 6: in a way of like that is truly an unreal feeling.
- 42:10Speaker 6: I talked to you guys earlier in the week, but
- 42:12Speaker 6: what Ted said meant a whole lot to me, not
- 42:14Speaker 6: only because the player he is, but the man he is.
- 42:17Speaker 6: And I take it very seriously to step in here
- 42:19Speaker 6: and be a guy that guys can count on. So
- 42:21Speaker 6: I know that I'm getting more time underneath my belt,
- 42:23Speaker 6: more times working with the ones, So I got to
- 42:25Speaker 6: continue to elevate my game, which I will. But yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 6: it was an unbelievable experience. Awesome words that Ted said
- 42:31Speaker 6: something I'll never forget. A story I'll tell the kids
- 42:33Speaker 6: and the grandkids, and I'll probably stretch it.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So two days after that, you spoke to kids at
- 42:40Speaker 1: a local elementary school. Tell us a little bit about
- 42:43Speaker 1: the Riisner Up Foundation and its mission.
- 42:46Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I kind of told you a little
- 42:48Speaker 6: bit about where I come from and the humble beginnings
- 42:52Speaker 6: and the roots of where I'm from. So when it
- 42:54Speaker 6: comes to giving back to other people and the type
- 42:58Speaker 6: of people we are off the field, that means more
- 43:00Speaker 6: to me, And I have no problem saying that means
- 43:02Speaker 6: more to me. You don't care if you call me
- 43:04Speaker 6: in five years and say I was one of the
- 43:05Speaker 6: best guards to ever come.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Through as a Cincinnati bank. I don't care.
- 43:08Speaker 6: It doesn't matter the awards, the trophies. I don't even
- 43:10Speaker 6: remember what awards I got in college, nor do you care.
- 43:13Speaker 6: If I ask you right now, tell me every award
- 43:15Speaker 6: I got in college, you wouldn't be able to do
- 43:16Speaker 6: it because it doesn't matter to you. But when you
- 43:18Speaker 6: go home and talk to your wife or your kids
- 43:20Speaker 6: and they ask you about Dalton Reisner, You're.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Probably gonna tell them about maybe the heart that I have,
- 43:24Speaker 2: And I hope that that's a good thing. And that's
- 43:26Speaker 2: why I do those things in.
- 43:27Speaker 6: The most genuine way. I mean, let's be honest. When
- 43:29Speaker 6: you go do that for kids, a lot of those
- 43:32Speaker 6: kids want to They want to know Joe Burrow and
- 43:34Speaker 6: how much money Joe Burrow makes. Those are the questions
- 43:36Speaker 6: you get, right, But there might be one kid that's like, Wow,
- 43:38Speaker 6: like that NFL football player, I would have done anything
- 43:40Speaker 6: for ANFL football player to show up to my school.
- 43:42Speaker 2: I've done anything.
- 43:43Speaker 6: So for me, it's like, Man, if there's one kid
- 43:46Speaker 6: that could have used this today, it matters for me.
- 43:48Speaker 6: And even if it didn't matter even if the kids
- 43:51Speaker 6: got nothing from it. And I give a whole speech,
- 43:53Speaker 6: I signed autographs. I did the whole deal for me
- 43:56Speaker 6: morally to say, hey, little Dalton, little kid that had
- 44:00Speaker 6: dream to be in the NFL. You know, just know
- 44:02Speaker 6: that when you made it like you're a good dude
- 44:03Speaker 6: and like you're still giving time to other people.
- 44:06Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Here come a few wild card topics. Now to wrap
- 44:10Speaker 1: things up with Dalton Reisner. Is it true that you
- 44:13Speaker 1: got free pizza from memorizing Bible versus as a kid.
- 44:17Speaker 6: That is very true, hundred percent Tostino's pizza. So there
- 44:19Speaker 6: were days where I'd get three or four Tostinos. Miss
- 44:22Speaker 6: Segura shout out Summit Baptist Church. Miss Segura, Wigans, Colorado.
- 44:27Speaker 1: You said in an interview a few years ago that
- 44:29Speaker 1: you want to open a restaurant when you're playing days
- 44:31Speaker 1: or finished. Is that still the case and what type
- 44:33Speaker 1: of restaurant would it be?
- 44:34Speaker 2: Great question.
- 44:35Speaker 6: I love the research you did. You did a great job. No,
- 44:37Speaker 6: definitely not anymore. I think starting a family is really
- 44:40Speaker 6: important to me. Being a father is really important to me.
- 44:44Speaker 6: I would love to speak at churches, men's group. I've
- 44:47Speaker 6: already done sermons at Sunday churches, so I'd love to
- 44:50Speaker 6: do that men's groups, youth groups, you name it, as
- 44:53Speaker 6: well as pickleball. I'd love to do that competitively with
- 44:56Speaker 6: my wife. But three twenty doesn't go well with pickleball.
- 44:58Speaker 1: So I have searched high and low for a picture
- 45:03Speaker 1: of you with no beard unsuccessfully. When was the last
- 45:07Speaker 1: time you were clean shaven.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Since I grew the beard?
- 45:10Speaker 6: I've never done a clean shaven you know, as an
- 45:12Speaker 6: offensive lineman.
- 45:12Speaker 2: That scary stuff. Buddy.
- 45:13Speaker 6: You know you look good, you know you're brave, You're
- 45:15Speaker 6: a fit dude, But when you weigh three and twenty pounds,
- 45:19Speaker 6: even though you're married, that's a risk you don't take.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Was this college or high school when the beard?
- 45:23Speaker 6: I think I started to finally grow it, like red
- 45:25Speaker 6: shirt freshman year in college, and all the pictures you
- 45:27Speaker 6: can see before that look pretty dang bad, so I'm
- 45:29Speaker 6: not going back to it.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Roughly, how many tattoos do you have? Oo?
- 45:34Speaker 6: I got about twenty Bible verses, so about maybe twenty
- 45:36Speaker 6: three twenty four tattoos. I got a family tree in
- 45:39Speaker 6: my right arm with you know, buddies that have died
- 45:43Speaker 6: or you know, family members that are still alive or
- 45:45Speaker 6: not alive, and then everything else is Bible versus some
- 45:49Speaker 6: stuff about my marriage. So yeah, probably it depends on
- 45:52Speaker 6: how much you want to break it up, you know
- 45:53Speaker 6: what I mean. I have two full arm sleeves and
- 45:55Speaker 6: I have a little bit on my legs, So.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Regardless, it could be you could call it five big,
- 46:00Speaker 2: huge pieces, or you could call it a hundred.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Are there more to come?
- 46:04Speaker 2: I think I'm done. I want to do the neck,
- 46:06Speaker 2: and my wife really shut things down. She said, we're
- 46:08Speaker 2: not going to the next So I said, okay, all right.
- 46:10Speaker 2: You know, I was just gonna get something about Jesus. Man.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I love Jesus so anywhere, but the neck. Final question
- 46:16Speaker 1: for Dalton Riisner, this one's a little bit deep. If
- 46:19Speaker 1: you could meet anybody in history, living or deceased.
- 46:23Speaker 6: Jesus done deal, Jesus done deal. I know that's cliche, man,
- 46:27Speaker 6: but maybe not cliche, but maybe corny.
- 46:29Speaker 2: But for me it's Jesus. I mean, dear Gosh, and
- 46:31Speaker 2: I am gonna be able to meet him, but I
- 46:32Speaker 2: don't want to. I don't it'd be cool not to
- 46:34Speaker 2: have to meet him, because then I know I'm dead.
- 46:36Speaker 6: So it would be really cool if you're telling me
- 46:38Speaker 6: one person right now, just dead or living, that I
- 46:41Speaker 6: could have and I could chat with Are you kidding me?
- 46:43Speaker 2: Bro? I would ask him so many questions and he
- 46:46Speaker 2: be sick of me, Like, how about that one prayer? Man?
- 46:49Speaker 2: Did you not listen? You don't want it to happen?
- 46:51Speaker 2: Or about the game this weekend? Who's gonna win? Jesus?
- 46:54Speaker 2: Am I gonna play?
- 46:55Speaker 3: Well?
- 46:55Speaker 2: Could you really just have me lock up this guy? Please?
- 46:58Speaker 3: No?
- 46:58Speaker 2: I'd ask him much more deeper questions in that. But
- 47:00Speaker 2: it'd be cool to meet Jesus.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I think I'd like to witness that conversation.
- 47:03Speaker 2: It'd be cool, man, It'd be a fun one. It'd
- 47:05Speaker 2: be a fun one.
- 47:06Speaker 1: This has been a fun one too. Appreciate your time.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Thank you so much, Ben, really appreciate you. God bless I.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Think you'll agree that Dalton Reisner is an easy guy
- 47:14Speaker 1: to root for. That's going to do it for this
