- 0:02Yeah, lace them up another. Way another easy.
- 0:12Double yeah from the track to the rodeo we talk that talk
- 0:17splits on the watch but we still take the Mick Dean in Perth with
- 0:20the long run legs going breaks the fire when the session gets
- 0:23thick Ryan in the mix with the numbers and plans from Everson
- 0:25to medals yeah we break it all down hard graft Monday left
- 0:28about a Sunday still chasing peeves by the.
- 0:32World. Hello and welcome back to the
- 0:34Easy Double Podcast episode 65. My name is Ryan.
- 0:38I'm joined, as always, by Dean Menzies and Owen Smith.
- 0:42Dean, how are you getting on this fine Monday evening?
- 0:47Going well, yeah, it's getting a bit colder over here, dare I
- 0:51say, but other than Brave and the Elements doing pretty well.
- 0:56It looks like we're both wearing a second layer.
- 0:58In fact, quite rare. Yeah, it is.
- 1:04It's not often we're having to record with extra layers on, but
- 1:09yeah. But no, it's lovely though, to
- 1:11be honest. Like the weather's been
- 1:12beautiful as far as running goes.
- 1:15It actually is. The days are stunning, to be
- 1:18fair, aren't they? Like it's hard to complain about
- 1:21a little bit cool mornings when you get low 20s sunshine, not
- 1:26much wind all throughout the afternoon.
- 1:27Like that's just perfect. Yeah, we, we spun the wheels a
- 1:34little bit yesterday, didn't we? Around at a pretty nice part of
- 1:37the morning. And it was beautiful.
- 1:39And then it followed by the Eagles game that afternoon and
- 1:43even the commentators were saying there was no excuses for
- 1:45both teams because the weather was pretty lovely.
- 1:49And the result was equally as beautiful for once.
- 1:52Third win, you beauty. Who's the thought?
- 1:57That's it. My love.
- 2:01I'm also joined by my other Co host Owen.
- 2:04How are you doing over there Monday afternoon?
- 2:08Yeah, Monday afternoon, yeah, the weather's gone to shit
- 2:10again. Just these massive big showers
- 2:13of rain. Like on my long run yesterday it
- 2:16was grounded for like 20 minutes and then the middle bear it just
- 2:19like pissed rain and that you actually get cold like it's that
- 2:22bad. So I'm happy I'm I think the
- 2:26first half the week is pretty shit and then when I leave to
- 2:29Belgium and the weather starts to pick up, which is just
- 2:32typical. But I'm now hopefully, hopefully
- 2:35well at the web like it's super for running conditions like the
- 2:39mornings and evenings are super bright.
- 2:40So we can't really complain. So that's humid.
- 2:44Irish summer hasn't arrived yet. Not a warm weather.
- 2:48Training hasn't started just yet.
- 2:50And you tease there to double race week for you and I.
- 2:52You're in the 5000 second track race of the season, Yeah.
- 2:58Waiting for this start lists to be announced because so with
- 3:02this, it's a cold I fam meet IF AM and there's like a pre
- 3:08program, main program and then post program.
- 3:11So the pre programs like the main.
- 3:13So it's like all the top athletes and I think there's 25K
- 3:16races, maybe 3 in that main program, but they're all like
- 3:20under 14 minute guys. And then the post program starts
- 3:24at like 10:20 and let me just double check that and 10:20 that
- 3:33after program starts. And that's the one I'll be in.
- 3:36So I'm just hoping that I'm in some of the earlier heats
- 3:40because you could end up running like on the website there,
- 3:44there's 199 runners in the post program.
- 3:49So you could end up running at like, yeah, 1:00 AM.
- 3:53So I'm hoping I'm one of the early ones or else it's going to
- 3:56be a long night. Presumably it's all sated
- 3:59though. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:02So hopefully I think what my Belfast time I should be in like
- 4:06a 1415 sort of umm heat. So umm, yeah, hopefully I'll be
- 4:12near near the front, but we'll see and.
- 4:18You're on HPF. Oh, I'm all for, I don't know,
- 4:23I'm refreshing deal the whole time, but I think it will be
- 4:26closer to the race. But I think the brakes are
- 4:30pretty stacked. It could be like 30 in the race.
- 4:32So a series you're going to be on, hopping on the rail and just
- 4:34like hanging on for their life. Yes.
- 4:37It's not a case of hoping to get in like the faster race or the
- 4:40slower race because it's just going to be all people around
- 4:43your ability either way. Yeah, just probably 100 of
- 4:46people that want the same thing delighted.
- 4:48So yeah, won't have to worry about going fast.
- 4:52That'll take care of itself. And yes, it's also HBF on the
- 4:57weekend. Dean is typically is it the half
- 5:00marathon, the main event there, or are they kind of like equal?
- 5:06Because it used to just be a 14K, like was the one was the
- 5:10only event offered and then it's evolved into the three races
- 5:14that it is now. I would say all of them are like
- 5:20generally fairly well contested. But yeah, look, perhaps and I
- 5:27suspect the prize money, not that it's well advertised is is
- 5:32tiered towards the longer races, I think.
- 5:34But yeah, either the the the 12th has a lot of prestige I
- 5:39think as well. But the issue is, and this is
- 5:42what you likely find out is unfortunately, they don't
- 5:47bifurcate the road such that you have a clear run of it in the 12
- 5:51K. So you end up running into
- 5:54traffic. Have you guys done it before,
- 5:56either of you? No, but like everyone I've spoke
- 6:00to says, I'll have fun running into the back of the half
- 6:03marathon. Yeah.
- 6:05So look, there's been some really good races over time in
- 6:07the 12 K, but certainly once they introduce the half,
- 6:11unfortunately by the time you get to the the tunnel part of
- 6:15the race and particularly coming out of the tunnel, you then
- 6:19spend the second-half of the race running into a lot of
- 6:22traffic of the the slower half marathoners.
- 6:27So it makes it pretty, yeah, it makes it pretty difficult.
- 6:32It's an added element in terms of picking racing lines because
- 6:35you can't run the tangents. You generally find yourself
- 6:37running pretty wide, running up curbs, just doing whatever you
- 6:40can to not have to stop for people.
- 6:45Run it back. You can, yeah, you can.
- 6:49But there's so like there's just hundreds that you're running
- 6:52through. So yeah, it's a bit of a unique
- 6:57experience. Oh, I look forward to it.
- 7:01And we also have this Wednesday is the easy double in the
- 7:05community with the double run with on and the running center.
- 7:10So 6:00 AM in the morning there's a trail run with ONS New
- 7:14trail shoe in Kings Park starting from the running
- 7:17centre. And then 5:30 PM in the evening
- 7:21is the usual shop run where we'll get chance to try some of
- 7:25ONS faster Rd. range of shoes. So if anyone's listening to this
- 7:29in time for that, get yourselves down.
- 7:32I think on will be giving away a pair of their shoes and we've
- 7:38got a last minute HBF entry if anyone is in need of 1.
- 7:42Are you? Are you?
- 7:43Planning on just taking the shoes again, Ron.
- 7:47Hopefully that'll be nice, wouldn't it?
- 7:48I am there's there's trial ones though.
- 7:51If I got them I'll just I wouldn't be running them.
- 7:54I keep them as a little lifestyle casual shoe.
- 7:57They look too nice. Generally on aren't renowned for
- 8:00having like the bubbles in the sole or the like.
- 8:05I don't know what you'd call it. And did the trail ones have
- 8:08that? Because I can imagine like
- 8:10sticks and stones getting caught in them, in the middle of them.
- 8:16Let's have a look at the photo again.
- 8:19The the ones that I've got now, I don't know why I was on the
- 8:24beach in them. There's fucking sand getting
- 8:26stuck everywhere. But now the trail ones look
- 8:29pretty solid. I don't know if you can see.
- 8:34Oh yeah, there. We go, yeah, I don't need to do
- 8:39any running. Then lastly, it's been brought
- 8:43to my attention that Apple podcast keeps having us off for
- 8:45some reason when we sync the episode, because we use Spotify
- 8:50as our host platform. When it pushes it through to
- 8:53Apple, Apple keeps cutting it off at like half an hour or like
- 8:57some random time. So a couple of people have
- 8:59messaged us about that because they listen on Apple.
- 9:02So I apologize for that. And yeah, if it happens again,
- 9:06either jump across to Spotify because it's fine on there or
- 9:10let us know. But I'm struggling as to what we
- 9:13can do. Someone, someone thought it'd
- 9:15been it'd been paywalled because he joined Patreon is like, I
- 9:20thought you guys are kicking me out.
- 9:21I'll say no mate, never. I'll open up a ticket with Apple
- 9:26support so it's for us. Yeah, this is your role.
- 9:31Open a ticket, log a call with it.
- 9:34Yeah. Oh, good night.
- 9:39Go on, you do that, do you? Are you in your workplace, Ryan?
- 9:43Is that what? If you've got a an IT issue, you
- 9:45have to make an incident request, Open up a ticket.
- 9:50Yeah, and little old mate over here, pick it up, give you a
- 9:54bell, start taking control of your screen.
- 9:57Yeah, I don't know where you're going in them folders.
- 10:00Have you tried turning it on and off?
- 10:02Yeah. Is there an update joke well.
- 10:11We do also have a special guest waiting in the lobby and he's
- 10:14joined us fresh off the back of the race last night.
- 10:18He's been on the podcast before we had him on.
- 10:21I went back and looked before. It was only back in October, but
- 10:24it feels like a little bit longer than that ago, given
- 10:27everything that he's achieved and done since.
- 10:30So there's multiple congratulations in order.
- 10:33Welcome back to the show, Joe. How are you doing, Joe?
- 10:35Big Field. Jokes.
- 10:39He's not even here. How would we get someone like
- 10:45that on here? Joe, you're on mute.
- 10:49I don't mean I don't think Joe's on me is.
- 10:52It been on Instagram? No, can't hear you.
- 10:59No, he's left. He'll be back in a SEC, but Joe
- 11:04Race will then talk about it. He raced in the British 10,000
- 11:08meter championships last night which were held in Loughborough
- 11:12on the track there. It's actually called the Paula
- 11:14Radcliffe Stadium I think. Hello.
- 11:18Hello, Joe. Hello, your eyes.
- 11:22Yeah, we've got. Yeah.
- 11:23So I've done the intro for not. Did you catch it?
- 11:31I heard some of it, yeah. I said hello, and then for some
- 11:35reason my mic wasn't working, so I just left and came back again.
- 11:38And then I just had Paul of Accliff Stadium.
- 11:40So go from there. Yeah, must must be something to
- 11:44do with you then. So yeah, how how was the race
- 11:47last night? Congratulations.
- 11:48Does that make you the British 10,000 meter champion?
- 11:53Yeah, I believe it does, even though I came second in the
- 11:56actual race. I think the guy who who won the
- 12:01won the actual race as an Ethiopian passport so he wasn't
- 12:06involved in the British championships race, but I wasn't
- 12:09sure when when like during the race until the roundabout like 8
- 12:13laps to go. So if if you watch the stream or
- 12:17anything like that, it was kinda around 3 case ago he made a move
- 12:21and I realized I was clear the person who had needed to be who
- 12:26was in, who was then the second place Brit.
- 12:28So as Condo cruised a bit into the finish, not no special time
- 12:33or anything like that. But yeah, it does technically
- 12:36mean I'm the British 10K on 10K track champion.
- 12:41How does it compare to 10K on the road?
- 12:45I can imagine it's. Enjoyable.
- 12:48Yeah, it's so less, it's so less enjoyable.
- 12:52It's, it's so much harder, I think because I've always said
- 12:56like since going to the roads like it, you feel like you're
- 13:01within like a proper race and like you've obviously got the
- 13:04support or like all the crowd and all that.
- 13:07Whereas on the track it's I feel like you've got to be a lot more
- 13:09switched on because each lap you technically get like a mental
- 13:14reminder of how you're actually getting on.
- 13:16And then like, because if you've got someone there are the same
- 13:19splits or saying like you're looking at the clock, you kind
- 13:23of know like if you're picking up the pace, if you're slowing
- 13:25down and they feel like that can get in your head.
- 13:27Whereas on the boat, I feel like depending on how you how you
- 13:31habit, like you had to get a reminder every K or every mile.
- 13:35So I kind of prefer that like just looking at a watch once
- 13:39every mile to see how I'm getting on.
- 13:42But yeah, on the track it like it's give it gives you legs an
- 13:45absolute battering. How did your calves pull up?
- 13:50Yeah, they're struggling. Luckily I had physio this
- 13:53morning, but that wasn't, that wasn't too pleasant.
- 13:57Like I was sat there like basically gripping hold of the
- 14:00beds while they were going into it.
- 14:02And like, I know it's not going to clear today.
- 14:05It'll probably hopefully clear over the next couple of days.
- 14:08And it just kind of just helped me.
- 14:10It'll help it flush it out. But yeah, no, they're battered
- 14:13and my back's battered as well, but it's no less than what I
- 14:17expected to be. I know when when we spoke last
- 14:21time you were talking about the longer distances because you've
- 14:25just done the Manchester half Marathon and you're saying some
- 14:29of it can be boring. So were you bored out there last
- 14:31night or were you in a bit of pain?
- 14:34Yeah, I was. I was pretty bored, but I was
- 14:37also like getting, getting used to the pain.
- 14:40Like I feel like obviously like British athletics try their best
- 14:45and putting on the events and like it was kind of obviously
- 14:49with no high gates or like I was so up for doing high gates, if
- 14:52that was if that was going to be on, because obviously I've been
- 14:55there to spectate. I've paced the race before.
- 14:57I know what it's like. It's it's quality.
- 15:00And then like it was kind of, it wasn't the best like in terms of
- 15:04like crowd support because even though the loft for
- 15:07international meet was on and there's quite a lot of people
- 15:10there in the day, it was like it kind of felt like a separate
- 15:13meet. It happened like 2 hours after
- 15:16loft for international finish. So it's kind of a bit of a
- 15:18shame. But like you can't really choose
- 15:22that. Like if British Champs is
- 15:24British Champs for a reason, like there's got to be a bit a
- 15:28little bit more professional. It's got to be very so fascic
- 15:31sponsored. So if that's how the event was
- 15:33going to go on, like that's that was going to be the case.
- 15:37It's one of them, really. So the big question then, what
- 15:41does that mean for the summer? Does that lock in your England
- 15:44vest or have you got a bit more work to do?
- 15:48So because I got the European qualifying standards in Valencia
- 15:54in January, they're taking Rd. time.
- 15:58So I then got based in my job yesterday, which is the reason
- 16:03why I went to do it was I had to had to come top brick to get
- 16:07selected for Europeans. And that's what I did do
- 16:11yesterday. So from what I've been told from
- 16:14speaking to people, they're like I've got the option there to go
- 16:18to the Europeans, which I will, I will do.
- 16:21I think there's selection meetings, not for a little while
- 16:24yet, but I believe that's, that's me selected for Europeans
- 16:28to do the 10K commonwealths. They're not taking both times.
- 16:35So I would have had to try and run sub 2720 yesterday, which
- 16:40would have been difficult to do. Like there was, there was a few
- 16:44Europeans in the race and that were going after the that
- 16:47European standards and Commonwealth standards, but it
- 16:52just wasn't the night for it. Like there was only two of them
- 16:55and I think they found out pretty quick there.
- 16:58I spoke to them beforehand and kind of said like I'm going for
- 17:01the Champs, I'm not going for the pace really.
- 17:04If you guys want to go on the pace, like you will have to do
- 17:07it by by yourselves. So at least they knew that
- 17:10that's what I was going to do and.
- 17:12I bet you they were made-up with that.
- 17:14Yeah, well they can like that's they got told it was a British
- 17:18champs race as well. But yeah, I think they split it
- 17:22for 2K each. They did one of them did 1K and
- 17:26then the next lad there's another K and then one pulled
- 17:30off after doing 2K and then another lad went to AI think 3K
- 17:35and then pulled off. And he was the very just like,
- 17:37well, we weren't going to get the time.
- 17:39So what's the point in knack on your legs when I think they
- 17:43they're another race in like 2 weeks time.
- 17:45So it might be better set up to do it there rather than trying
- 17:49to do it a lot for with not not much crowd. 8:15 at night.
- 17:57Europeans and that's very exciting.
- 17:59How do you prepare to race against Andres Arm Green?
- 18:02Because he's been very public in that that's his kind of big a
- 18:05goal for the year, to try and go after a medal there.
- 18:08And then he opens up in something rather quick over 3K
- 18:12on Saturday night as well. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be
- 18:17pretty mental. Like obviously like if you look
- 18:20at it from like, I think the world champs last year, like
- 18:23you've got to to the podium where Europeans weren't.
- 18:27So like they're they're they're both going to be off there.
- 18:32It's going to be it's going to be a probably a fast but
- 18:34tactical race. There's going to be a lot of
- 18:36surgeons. So I feel like it's a guy game
- 18:39of training towards that and like kind of keep on top of the
- 18:44the volume based sessions and I've already I've text Jordan to
- 18:49see what. This is.
- 18:52For a bit of advice and see what like I need to do like so I can
- 18:56speak to my coach and I kind of have both both imports and like
- 19:02what what we've been doing like is obviously been working.
- 19:04So, but it's good to know that that's kind of what that's what
- 19:07he's going to be doing as well. So I'm aware of it and it'll be
- 19:11in reality, it's going to be a fast last two miles.
- 19:14That's kind of how it's going to go.
- 19:16So it's got to be best prepared for that.
- 19:19And like last night was my first ever 10K on the track.
- 19:23So that was the most important thing was that I was I finished
- 19:26it and I've got through that mental side of it.
- 19:29Now it's hopefully about going going start champs and one and
- 19:33well given a good account on myself and hopefully getting
- 19:35decent time from as well. The race between now and then?
- 19:40Or is everything training focused?
- 19:44I probably will do some races there.
- 19:47It's quite annoying because I was, I feel like I'm quite good
- 19:505K shape, but there's quite a lot in reality.
- 19:54There's been there's a lot of five KS and quite a short space
- 19:57of time. Like I think obviously there's
- 19:58IFAM next week, then there's that comeback one in London.
- 20:02And like based off how my legs feel and I think I'll only
- 20:06believe returns jogging. By the end of the week.
- 20:10So there's no chance of doing that.
- 20:12And then there's not really them too, too big of opportunities to
- 20:15try and chase like a fast 5K time.
- 20:18But we've got British champs. I think that's in July, end of
- 20:23June I think. So I think I'm going to go do
- 20:26the 5K there rather than focus on the 15 and try and just once
- 20:32run well there, hopefully try and get another medal because
- 20:35that could be my third British Champs medal this year, which
- 20:38would be pretty decent. And yeah, just kind of gave
- 20:41myself up then to go to Europeans and then what's good
- 20:45as well. Like I've obviously got the
- 20:47World Rd. Championships and Copenhagen in
- 20:51September, so I can kind of have a little reset after Europeans
- 20:55and then already go in from a place of strength of my trains
- 21:00going well and go and attack another half marathon.
- 21:03Yeah, very good. She don't fancy the Birkenhead
- 21:05Park Five Mile in July. No, unfortunately not.
- 21:10I think it's going to be quite a good events and I don't want to
- 21:13risk my my form of knock not bit place in the top 2.
- 21:23I guess we also have to congratulate you on you've run
- 21:26the British record over 10K on the road since you were last on
- 21:30and that quickly LED well and no led to your sign in with Nike as
- 21:35well. So congratulations with that.
- 21:38How was question? How was the the 10K like kind of
- 21:43finding out whether you were the record holder when the record
- 21:47holder? Because from our end there was a
- 21:48bit of a delay in the result being confirmed and it was like
- 21:52a matter of a second or two here or there.
- 21:54What was it like for you? Yeah, so it was pretty mental,
- 21:58like it's hard to tell. It was so hard to tell.
- 22:02Like I crossed the line thinking that I was under, but probably
- 22:08only by like one second because like, obviously you see the
- 22:12clock and then you go underneath the gum tree.
- 22:15I was like, I was, I was certain that like I was underneath
- 22:18there, but it probably would have only been by one second.
- 22:21And then I spoke to a few other people around it and they were
- 22:25like, yeah, you broke it by a fair few.
- 22:27And then I was just like, I don't know, to be honest.
- 22:30Like my watch said, I think it said like 37 like that.
- 22:36So that would have been one second under.
- 22:39I don't think. Obviously you don't exactly know
- 22:42if you watch it's going to be accurate, but at least you know,
- 22:44like the time is from when you start them, when you stopped it,
- 22:47it's going to be around the same.
- 22:50And then the results just took an age to come out.
- 22:55This is a joke because I was, I've got 3 minutes behind you.
- 22:58But yeah, I think I was waiting for the results for ages and
- 23:02ages and ages. It took hours.
- 23:04Yeah, it was a joke. Like I think, I think it said
- 23:07somewhere that they kept, they come out at 11, but it's just
- 23:13like the basic, I think the base was at like half 9, wasn't it?
- 23:16And then like then you've got to wait like another hour after
- 23:21you've finished or whatever. And then it was the whole
- 23:24process of obviously I don't have an agent.
- 23:28So then I was only there with my family and like I wasn't, I was
- 23:33in the sub elite pen. I wasn't, it wasn't in the elite
- 23:35pen. So I managed to work my way over
- 23:38to the elite pen because I had a few friends there and they had
- 23:41their agents there and I had to speak to them because obviously
- 23:46to get a record ratified, you've got to be George Sesters.
- 23:50And I was like, what, what do we need to do for that?
- 23:53Where do we go? Because I've never never been
- 23:55told like I never went to the meeting, the elite meeting to
- 24:00like tell you what happens. And they said about going to the
- 24:03hotel to get it done. And I got down to the hotel and
- 24:07there was like in the in the end to do in place.
- 24:10And there were at that time there was only like 3 people
- 24:13there. And I spoke to the person on the
- 24:15desk and she said, do you know what record you broke?
- 24:19And I was like, I think I might have broke the British records,
- 24:22but I'm not 100% sure. And they're like, we can't test
- 24:26you if you're not 100% sure. So then I had to wait until the
- 24:30results came out. By this time, obviously, about
- 24:3320 other records have been broken.
- 24:36So I've been sat and I'm, yeah, I was sat and unstoping for
- 24:41about two hours. And then I found out obviously
- 24:46and match the records. And then we have, so we have
- 24:49that was a whole nother criteria of like, do I need to go get
- 24:53tested? Because technically I haven't
- 24:56broke it. And then I think we were having
- 24:59different things like some people said no, some people said
- 25:02yeah, so obviously just on the safe side we got tested.
- 25:05But yeah, I think I was sat in on statement for about 3 hours,
- 25:11which is pretty brutal. But the one, the one thing I'll
- 25:14say with it is that I left anti doping before album left-handed
- 25:20open. So like, I don't think he was
- 25:22too bothered about chilling there, but I wanted, I wanted to
- 25:25leave. No trouble pissing in the cup
- 25:29when it came to. No, well, I was holding that cup
- 25:32for about an hour because I had it done pretty much straight
- 25:36away. But there there was just a
- 25:38massive queue to fill out all the forms and like there was
- 25:41just so many people just jumping in the queue and you're just
- 25:43like, well, what can you do in that sort of situation?
- 25:47In the end it just ends up walking to the front of the
- 25:49queue and just said like I need to go now as one of the first
- 25:51day, like it's just taking the mech a little bit.
- 25:56Now I Remember, Remember right when Ryan was chatting with you,
- 25:59Joe, just in terms of you were saying you, you had different
- 26:03product and, and, and you were trying different things at that
- 26:05point in time. But now has has since running
- 26:09some of these times and getting some support, has that changed?
- 26:12You set up a bit? Are things a bit a bit more
- 26:14manageable? A bit easier?
- 26:16Yeah, it's definitely a lot easier.
- 26:18Like obviously I've got the support from right now and like
- 26:22it's a, it's a contract for a few years.
- 26:24So I've got, and now I've got that security there and like I
- 26:29got on well with the people there like this bit like
- 26:33obviously it's people think that you, like you have a lot of
- 26:38pressure when you have a contract and like you, you in
- 26:40the, in reality you do. But I've gone into it quite
- 26:44relaxed because I've had a professional contract before and
- 26:46I was only on, I was only on the contract for a year.
- 26:49And like that, I would say that put more pressure on because I
- 26:53wasn't sure what was going to go on at the end of that year.
- 26:55But knowing that I've got a few years with it, with them, like I
- 26:59can kind of be a bit more relaxed.
- 27:01And it's, it's actually allowed me to like enjoy running a bit
- 27:05more and like, because I really enjoy going to the road.
- 27:09That's definitely what's helped and like managing to get 2
- 27:15British Champs medals quite quickly.
- 27:17And so starting that contractor, I'll say it starts pretty well
- 27:21and I hopefully it just continues in that direction.
- 27:25But it's, it's definitely helped me out massively.
- 27:28Like it's I'm not haven't like asked at the moment.
- 27:32I'm still working just because I've been working in a school
- 27:36and like it's not too far away from the summer holidays.
- 27:40So I kinda, oh, it's I'm a boss that I'll finish, I'll finish
- 27:44that. But as soon as that's all, then
- 27:47I'll probably just pack that in and just fully focus on the
- 27:52running. And that's, I feel like that's
- 27:54what I can do best and then just focus and try and keep on
- 27:58performing. Have you, do you have any like
- 28:03comes planned? I'm not sure.
- 28:04Have you ever been to Like Altitude before?
- 28:07Yeah, yeah. So I've been to altitude a few
- 28:09times. I was recently in South Africa,
- 28:13a porch, and then I was in. I've been font quite a few times
- 28:17as well. And then I was planning on going
- 28:23to fonts before the world boots and I call them seasoned a
- 28:29little bit earlier. But now that I've got Europeans,
- 28:32I'm not sure what will be the case of like when I go to
- 28:35France. And because I would be going in
- 28:38there from a position of strength and just kind of see
- 28:41how it works. And like I feel like the
- 28:43altitude does benefit me quite well.
- 28:45Like I like just going up for like a month and getting a good
- 28:49bit of training and then dropping back down.
- 28:51I don't really like the the longer camps, but yeah, probably
- 28:56look at going to Fonts and then maybe now maybe going into next
- 29:01year, maybe look at going to Flagstaff because I know it's a
- 29:03little bit higher. So it could be quite good going
- 29:05into a few more bird races. And would you have access to
- 29:11like some of them, like groups out there or would you just go
- 29:14by yourself? I mean, yeah, I'm sure like I
- 29:17would be able to have access with it.
- 29:18Like what what's been quite good, like the camps that I've
- 29:21gone on, like I've gone with my training group and we all work
- 29:24quite well together. And then like where we've been
- 29:28as well, there's obviously other groups.
- 29:29So you can't just like mix in like everyone's kind of real,
- 29:34especially in the winter, everyone's kind of doing the
- 29:36same thing. Maybe in the summer, that's
- 29:38where it gets a bit, you know, like a bit more technical, and
- 29:41that's where you, like, have put a bit more focus into your own
- 29:44events. But yeah, you'll be able to link
- 29:47him with people. Like, it just helps, like,
- 29:49training with good level people and like, it's so much better
- 29:53than doing it by yourself, isn't it?
- 29:54So like, yeah, I'm sure there'll be access to it.
- 30:00Was the, when Nike did get in touch with you and sort it all
- 30:04out, was there ever any potential to like join a group
- 30:07or anything or was it always just kind of like the support
- 30:11and you would stay with your coach because I know you've got
- 30:13like a long term relationship with them anyway?
- 30:17Yeah, it was. There was no pressure to like
- 30:19join a group or anything like that.
- 30:22Like the, the guy Adam gets on very well with my coach and like
- 30:26obviously me and my coach have been together, working together
- 30:29for like 8 years now. So like we know what works well,
- 30:34like we've got a good relationship and, and how and
- 30:36how we approach training and how we approach racing.
- 30:39Like we both have good influence over it.
- 30:41So there's never any pressure. And Mike actually signed another
- 30:45lad from a group because Sam Charik, who was I think he was
- 30:49dead at British Champs 1500 last year.
- 30:52So we, we train quite well together.
- 30:55So technically we've got a little night group going on down
- 31:00here even though there's only two of us.
- 31:03But yeah, like there's no pressure steering.
- 31:06He has belief in what we're what we're doing because it's only
- 31:10just kind of been the start of like my buried running career
- 31:12and like the longer distances and it's been going well.
- 31:15So I don't see why there'll be any pressure to go move anywhere
- 31:18else. Like if it's not broke then fix
- 31:21it, you know what I mean? Is the mileage oh gone gone out?
- 31:28I was. Just going to say, I'm not sure
- 31:30if you've seen Andres Armgren, who's wearing like a pair of
- 31:32streak flies, but like the spikes in them.
- 31:35Have you gotten a chance to get a pair of them?
- 31:37Yeah. Yeah, I actually do, to be fair.
- 31:41That's one, yeah. They are literally just like, do
- 31:43you remember the old splats that like, I think they're like
- 31:46streak Lt. twos. Then you had a spike plate on.
- 31:50It's literally just the kind of the exact same.
- 31:52It's just a pair of St. fires with some spikes on.
- 31:57It just helps with grip really. And like kind of said that it's
- 32:01for like it kind of helps you transition from going from like
- 32:06them carbon shoes into a bit into the spike.
- 32:09So there's more aggression on the turns.
- 32:12Like if you want a little bit faster.
- 32:14I've already done like one or two sessions in them, but they
- 32:17do feel great. Like if if you're allowed to
- 32:20wear them in braces, it would be a joke.
- 32:22Well, obviously you can't it. Would have been handy there last
- 32:25night. Yeah, I think my cost would have
- 32:27been in a lot better place today.
- 32:32You boys got any more questions? Because I told Joe 15 minutes
- 32:35and we've overstated. That so good.
- 32:38That's very kind, Jeff. No, no.
- 32:40Hey, are you happy with what's his name, Ernie Slot staying on?
- 32:45No, absolutely not. See Alonzo's got the Chelsea.
- 32:49I know that's even worse, isn't it?
- 32:51Like it's just it's got to the point now where it's not even
- 32:56frustration like you, just I'm not bothered by it.
- 33:00Like watching the watching the game on Friday, I was like,
- 33:05well, at least that's not, I feel like it's not going to ruin
- 33:07my whole weekend. Like if it was a Saturday
- 33:09morning game, I felt like that would ruin my whole weekend.
- 33:13But the Friday I was just like, I'll go to sleep and wake up and
- 33:17it made no difference. And I was angry when we were
- 33:20losing quite a lot. Whereas now it's just at a point
- 33:23where you you've accepted it. And I want him gone but I can't
- 33:28see. Give them a few games into the
- 33:31new season and beyond. There, that's the issue.
- 33:34Like if we go in, if you get a favourable few games at the
- 33:38start, we'll start winning and then we'll fit.
- 33:41We'll face some adversity again and then we'll start crumbling
- 33:44under the pressure and it'd be sucked by November and then no
- 33:48one else won't have anyone there.
- 33:52This might confuse some of the listeners, but what about
- 33:54England in the summer? Will you be following them?
- 33:58Nah, I don't really follow them. Like obviously you've got mates
- 34:02here that like enjoy watching them.
- 34:04Like if for me, I've never really been bothered by it.
- 34:08Like if England do well, like it kind of makes my mates happy so
- 34:13it makes it a good time. Whereas if it if they lose, it
- 34:17doesn't really affect me. Like it's not like it affects me
- 34:20like Liverpool does. Like I'll watch the game because
- 34:24obviously enjoy Foresee, but it doesn't bother me if they do
- 34:27well. If they don't do well, I get
- 34:29into the games, but it's not one of them that I'm like, oh, if we
- 34:34go out some absolutely guttedness.
- 34:36Like it is what it is really. You know I've stood on the table
- 34:40throwing paints around. No definitely not.
- 34:43We had a mate who last year or when the euro is happening.
- 34:48I think we were in a pub watching it and the TV outsides
- 34:53was like 5 seconds ahead of the TV insides and he we saw the
- 35:00goal go in and he celebrated and then quickly ran the sides to
- 35:04watch it again and then celebrated twice.
- 35:07That could never be me. I think there's a better chance
- 35:13of the European 10,000 meters coming home than the World Cup
- 35:17coming home. Yeah, I'd say so.
- 35:19So. Fingers crossed.
- 35:23You never know, we get one of those hot British summer days
- 35:27and it's it's slow as anything. Then that'll do, yeah.
- 35:30Could be, could be anything there the last 800.
- 35:34All right. Well, thanks very much for your
- 35:36time and congratulations everything.
- 35:38Thank you very much. Cheers.
- 35:41Cheers. Thank you.
- 35:42Goodbye. Nice one.
- 35:44There you go, that was good insight.
- 35:47We forgot to Owen. We missed a rare opportunity
- 35:51there to sort of go back into Ryan's training history, what he
- 35:55was like to have been coached. I'm filthy.
- 35:58It's just come to me. The has to be Patreon episode.
- 36:03We'll have to get him in and say what was he like.
- 36:06Was it? Was it?
- 36:07Shade one of the hardest work and athletes I've ever met.
- 36:12Dennis Rodman, Would he be familiar?
- 36:16I think he might be a bit of a Rodman character himself.
- 36:19He feels, he feels got a bit of edge to him as well, which is
- 36:23nice, isn't it? He's like the last 12 months,
- 36:28fucking even last six months. Unreal British record now, like
- 36:35you're saying, winning national titles and still feeling good.
- 36:38Like the events a bit boring like.
- 36:41Demand he's done since the time you had him on Ryan before.
- 36:44He's like he's beat like he's beaten like for assessment, he's
- 36:48like throwing him away and the half marathon like for
- 36:50assessment is such a good runner like 10K5.
- 36:53I'd love to see him do a fast 5K.
- 36:54It's sort of sad that we won't get there.
- 36:56You won't get a chance at that. But although whoever rocks up
- 37:00is. But whoever rocks up to that
- 37:02British champs, that'll be good to watch, won't it?
- 37:04Yeah, and they sort of like it's so even that 10K in Europeans,
- 37:10like if it is slow, that's he's going to be there.
- 37:13That's the thing. Like he's got wheels.
- 37:16I was thinking because remember how we could say umm, cameras
- 37:20cut to Jordan and being in Angrin's corner?
- 37:24He's going to be similarly in Joy's corner this time.
- 37:30Aaron will be there. You've got tickets for 10K?
- 37:33You know, I've got the 5K on the Monday, they have 10 KS on the
- 37:36Saturday. I'd nearly go back over though,
- 37:39so good. Joe, you go there as his
- 37:44manager. Get in there.
- 37:47That's gasto about the doping protocol after, isn't it?
- 37:51Having to get like he actually had to ask to get drug tested.
- 37:55It's crazy. Yeah.
- 37:56Hey guys, I think I broke the British record.
- 37:59You mind if I come in for a for a test?
- 38:04And then he's like I'm gone a SEC.
- 38:06I think I've actually only called it.
- 38:08Do I still have to do 1? Yeah, because it was so annoying
- 38:11the way the results came out like 2 hours later.
- 38:14Like I'd say I was home showered, unfed but and he was
- 38:17still getting drug tested. But we remember trying to find
- 38:20it. Ryan, you remember?
- 38:22Yeah, because we were, we all were experienced, like very
- 38:25relatable. But then for him to be at the
- 38:28end like that, he was having the same feeling.
- 38:32It's pretty cool. Well, we've got plenty of
- 38:36results to get through here as well, so let's get moving with
- 38:39our third. Will we touch on that?
- 38:43We'll touch on the international may as well.
- 38:46So in the male winner was Kadar Omar and he ran 2829 but he'll
- 38:51he pops up on all them Rd. races.
- 38:53So yeah, he bet Joe Wigfield who ran 2856 even though he jogged
- 38:59it in James Kingston was third in 29 O 9 and then fourth was
- 39:03Max Malarvi. He ran 2913.
- 39:06So basically you're UK 123 is Joe James and Max.
- 39:10And on the female side Izzy Fry won it in 3212.
- 39:15Second was Poppy tank in 3215 and third was Hannah Irwin in
- 39:20Hannah Rose Irwin in 3222. So a much tighter affair there.
- 39:25But yeah, like, I was in my head when I was watching it, I was
- 39:29constantly comparing it to that knight of 10K PBS, that event
- 39:36where like there's crowds everywhere.
- 39:38There's crowds up on Lane 3. And then this one, it was, yeah,
- 39:43would have been definitely a lonely race out there.
- 39:46But yeah, Congrats to Joe. I was only looking at those
- 39:51Commonwealth Games standards the other day and I'm sure in
- 39:54relation to those women's results there, I'm sure the
- 39:56women's standard was either 32 flat, this for England Athletics
- 40:01or 3230. So they obviously had to go with
- 40:07it. Find that now I.
- 40:10Think you're right. I think I was listening to this
- 40:13Sunday Plot Class podcast and they were on about 32 minutes
- 40:18because there's another race next week.
- 40:20It's like this European Cup. And basically that could be a
- 40:25faster race. So they were saying it's a bit
- 40:28unfair that girls have picked that race instead of running
- 40:33their national champs, even though the other race probably
- 40:35has a better chance of running a faster time.
- 40:39So yeah. I can't believe he's that's
- 40:46going back to Joe almost like skipped Commonwealth's because I
- 40:51think maybe when I would spoke to him like Commonwealth's would
- 40:55have been a little bit of an aspirational goal.
- 40:58And then on paper, like Europeans is held in a bit bit
- 41:01of a higher caliber, isn't it? Because you well, you represent
- 41:03GB rather than England, Wales, Northern Ireland.
- 41:07And it's just so ended up that he's qualified for the
- 41:11Europeans, which is just amazing.
- 41:14He's like skipped that step of come games.
- 41:17He's concentrated top, which is yeah, like 2028.
- 41:22Like would he go for the Mar? I know he's so he's still young,
- 41:25isn't he? He wouldn't need to jump up to
- 41:26the marathon for LA 28 Woody. Yeah, reckon he's about 26.
- 41:32Yeah, he's still got time to track.
- 41:34Do you want to do those Irish results?
- 41:36Yeah, so on the weekend and there was like the Irish
- 41:40National 5K Rd. champs and yeah, that was in the Phoenix Park.
- 41:45So again, not the not the fastest place to run, but on the
- 41:49male side, Ben Guyden from Con from Clan Love Harriers, he won
- 41:53it in 1427. Second was Aaron Donnelly from
- 41:57DSD who ran M 1429 and then third was Killian Mooney in
- 42:02M1438 who was also from DSD. In the female side, Ella Fenley
- 42:10ran 16 O2. She's from DSD for the win.
- 42:14Second was Amy Green, who ran 1629 from Finn Valley, and then
- 42:19third was Maeve Branigan, who ran 1634 from a close at
- 42:24Harriers. So yeah, like that's a national
- 42:27title, so kudos to them guys. Just there's another fast,
- 42:31there's a really fast 5K on Tuesday, actually.
- 42:35Like in me, it's where I'm from that a lot of people would
- 42:38probably rather run than this one because you just have a
- 42:42better chance of running faster I.
- 42:45Was going to ask that. So because you've obviously made
- 42:47the choice to run a 5K the following weekend instead of run
- 42:53this, like how do you feel like? Because I assume you would have
- 42:57been quite competitive in this. Yeah, and in my head, like I'd
- 43:01love to like a national title, like no one will ever be able to
- 43:05take that away from you. Like you won the national 5K on
- 43:08the road in 2026. But I feel like for where I am,
- 43:15I like have a goal for this year and running in Belgium is going
- 43:21to be the best chance to get that goal if you get me.
- 43:24So and I'd like to just give the track a really good goal this
- 43:28year. So yeah, like I would love to
- 43:31run every single race. It's just like you sort of have
- 43:33to pick and choose. Yeah.
- 43:36And would it, I think like racing the competition or racing
- 43:42for time, but like. What's what's what's?
- 43:44Going to make you the most happy and what's going to get you most
- 43:46excited. So that's what really is
- 43:48motivating you. Yeah, and like, there's not much
- 43:52hype like about getting the National Rd. 5K, if you hear me.
- 43:58I don't know why it's not that much of a big deal over here
- 44:02when it really should be, but like like a 5K on the track is
- 44:05like way bigger a bigger thing. Like there's a tank on the track
- 44:10and I think last year it was like 4 people in it.
- 44:12Like there's just no prestige to it for some reason.
- 44:15Yeah, it's funny how the events can ebb and flow.
- 44:18I mean, it's the same for here, right?
- 44:19Some of these events you can rock up, no one's at them.
- 44:22Other events and you know, every local person's participating.
- 44:25Something across Australia, and I'm assuming this UK is no
- 44:28different. It's certain races have that
- 44:31rich history to them and maybe have a great reputation.
- 44:34You know, like some of the with some of these courses are fast
- 44:37and the deep fields are deep and it's a national title on the
- 44:41line. It's got the perfect recipe for
- 44:42everything. So it's like, well, why wouldn't
- 44:44I target that? Where it's like you say, this is
- 44:46probably a hilly, hilly race. So you know you're not going to
- 44:49post a time. Therefore you're only going
- 44:50there for a competition. And when you've got a chance, if
- 44:53you are really fit to post a time and maybe when when
- 44:56something, then maybe that's why some of the other races pull
- 44:58competition. Ian, do you want to do these
- 45:00Australian ones? Yeah, we, yeah, we can go into
- 45:07this maybe a little bit later. I mean, we don't know the
- 45:10insurance and outs of exactly what went on, but maybe I'll
- 45:14start with the 5K first and work my way up in distance.
- 45:17But in Joondalup over the weekend, we had the Joondalup
- 45:19Running Festival. The winner of the women's 5K was
- 45:25Catherine Lynn in 19 O 4. The winner of the men's.
- 45:32You're having a fight with Ducky, Sorry.
- 45:38Is are you typing turn on and off on the?
- 45:43That's exactly what I'm doing. So the winner of the men's 5K
- 45:48was Jamie Lynch. So Jamie, coach of Coach Ty, one
- 45:52of the herdsmen Harriers. So the red strip would have been
- 45:55being represented there. He was the winner of the men's
- 45:585K in 1721 and then in the same quick.
- 46:01One quick one on that. That singlet is so nice, isn't
- 46:06it? There's something about like a
- 46:07red sash got across. It's just so cool.
- 46:10He's done well there. And the the outline of the of
- 46:13the great lake of Herdsman Lake is the emperor.
- 46:18Yeah. I mean, you need to hear this.
- 46:20You have you seen you were the seen the herdsman Harrier's
- 46:24logo, obviously the kind of like similar to a circular shape and
- 46:31have you you know what it represents.
- 46:36And let me just double check what you're on about.
- 46:40Yeah, have a look load up their Instagram account, could be
- 46:44about to save you here there. Herds on OK then that's deadline
- 46:49of the lake. Yeah, well, how many times does
- 46:53you look around that lake? Probably not many.
- 46:56No, not really. But Dean had no idea that it was
- 47:00the GPS route of herdsmen, and he's probably done like hundreds
- 47:04of laps around it. Hardly.
- 47:09What's a Dean? Yeah, no, yeah.
- 47:14I just didn't connect the dots. Would you believe they ended to
- 47:17where we're at after a long run, grabbing a coffee and then a
- 47:22penny dropped by? Yeah.
- 47:24Did you just take? Josh was like scribbling and
- 47:26like, Oh yeah, that looks good. We'll have that.
- 47:28Yeah, I just thought he just liked the image and then I
- 47:31realized that it had a bit more significance to it, so.
- 47:35There you go. But but yes, the 10K the women's
- 47:42winner was Debbie Donald in 36 O 6.
- 47:45And I remember Debbie's name because she was at the what was
- 47:50the name of the, the half Riga Half Marathon World champs a
- 47:56couple of years ago, which Sinead Noonan, one of our
- 47:58training partners at Front Runner participated in Ambrose
- 48:02Folly was the winner of the men's 10K and 3255.
- 48:06But I think the, I think the most controversy, there's a bit
- 48:10of controversy and we can talk about it by extension in our
- 48:14double trouble. But the the the half marathon
- 48:18turned out to be a 21.7 K race because I think from what I
- 48:23understand it, and Ryan, correct me, but the participants were
- 48:28led offline early on in the race and then happened to have to run
- 48:33an extra bit of distance towards the end to make up for it.
- 48:35So I think they ran a bit over distance.
- 48:39But yeah, the winner was Lauren French in the women's race
- 48:4112508. And we're not sure Will Clifton
- 48:45in 11256 or Tom Tedge in 1/13/25 were awarded the winner.
- 48:50I think that that may have changed places may have changed
- 48:53hands in the last few 100 meters of that race with some of the
- 48:56confusion that ensued after participants needed to reroute
- 49:00because yeah, a bit of local controversy in one of our Perth,
- 49:05Perth based fun runs. Yeah, sounds like a bit of a
- 49:09mess. I'll let you know how.
- 49:11How Ivan tempted it from Strava, from various people's accounts,
- 49:16is that the lead bike LED them off, took the wrong turn early
- 49:19on, which meant that they'd done like a 2K loop rather than a 4K
- 49:23loop. So that meant that when they
- 49:28were even seeing like 6K signs out on the racecourse, everyone
- 49:32was looking at the watch and being like, what the hell, We're
- 49:34like 3 or 4K into this race. We're not 6K.
- 49:37And so I think those who were obviously cross referencing the
- 49:41markers on course to the watch knew almost immediately like
- 49:45something was balled up and the race director has tried to think
- 49:51on their feet because they realized that the mistake had
- 49:53been made. And whilst because it's one big
- 49:56loop whilst everyone's out on the other side of the lake up
- 49:59there and Joondalup, they've tried to manufacture an
- 50:02extension near the finish. And it sounds like that
- 50:05extension was almost like a bit of a shoot system, like kind of
- 50:09windy out and back to make up the distance.
- 50:12And it's ended up being rather it's not severely, but if you're
- 50:16trying to run a PB6700 meters is quite severe over distance.
- 50:22And that explains why I didn't get that but that initially, but
- 50:27that explains why 19 KS remember some people's Strava stay slowed
- 50:31in that from that point. And I couldn't understand why so
- 50:33many people were slowing at that point.
- 50:35But it's probably a function of what happened with the course.
- 50:39Yeah, how? Wait, how many years has this?
- 50:42Like has the course changed over the years?
- 50:45I don't think it has. Yeah, it's a bit of a strange
- 50:48series of events now. It's it's been around a long
- 50:50time. It's around a freaking lake.
- 50:55Like you know, like I don't get how they mess this up.
- 51:00How much was an entry to this race, do you mind me asking?
- 51:05So they have like the WAMC, they have this calendar of races and
- 51:09four or five of them are down as like major events across the
- 51:12year and this being one of the major events.
- 51:15So it was like had a decent couple of sponsors on it and
- 51:21don't know participation numbers.
- 51:22Dean, you're looking at the results before.
- 51:24Did you manage to see any, any sort of number of people think
- 51:28it would have been about 60-70 dollars?
- 51:34And in defence of years, a lot of people, goodness, looking at
- 51:37the numbers, I don't know, I'd have to export them to get the
- 51:40exact numbers. But yeah, certainly quite a few.
- 51:42I think though, and I'll just defend the Marathon club.
- 51:47I know we're going a bit off paced here, but like the
- 51:51Marathon Club is he's a, he's a club not-for-profit based
- 51:55business run largely, a lot largely based by volunteers.
- 51:59And what I noticed in particular, the importance of
- 52:03the likes of the Marathon Club is that during COVID, a lot of
- 52:07our major fund runs were shut down because the for profit
- 52:11companies didn't want to operate for fear of us going back into
- 52:15lockdown and then not making a profit or then losing money.
- 52:18Whereas the Marathon Club continued to pump out events the
- 52:22whole way through COVID and created some of the best racing
- 52:26for us. I mean, one of the highlights
- 52:28probably was when Jess Stenson came over and ran the Perth
- 52:31Marathon because we had a bit of a bubble open with Adelaide.
- 52:35And so like we couldn't go over to the East Coast at that point
- 52:38in time unless it was for essential work.
- 52:40But we could because of the because of how things were over
- 52:44here. And the Marathon Club put on a
- 52:45great event then and we had a great half marathon during that
- 52:48time. So I mean, yeah, I I think they
- 52:51do an exceptional job generally and if they're fantastic, they
- 52:56go to their trouble of getting their races certified.
- 52:59They're not. They do have a history of
- 53:01getting these things right. But yeah, real shame that this
- 53:03one completely skew with. Yeah, but like the GA over here
- 53:10is is like I'm prefer a number for whatever and then they don't
- 53:14make a fucking balls of shit like this.
- 53:17Like even in the half marathon I don't match around and was let
- 53:20off on his league bike. Like you've one job like you
- 53:24tell someone study the course, cycle it the day before.
- 53:27I don't care. The people are after paying good
- 53:28money for this. I'm for like shit like this to
- 53:31happen and I actually don't think it's good enough and
- 53:34actually really pissed me off. I think if you like a lot of
- 53:39the, if this was like a World Athletics event, like what
- 53:43oblique, there needs to be an obligation on the athlete.
- 53:47Like I'm pretty sure if you actually go off course yourself,
- 53:51you're at fault. But they're following a bike
- 53:54now, yeah? But I think if you read like,
- 53:59say, World Athletics guidelines, the onus is on the athlete.
- 54:02Just what? I'm saying is yeah, I think so.
- 54:05I think and you have to re enter.
- 54:06I was reading well like this is not going to be sanctioned.
- 54:09I tried to find WAMC rules for this sort of stuff.
- 54:12They obviously don't have any, I don't think.
- 54:15But like I'm pretty sure if you leave incorrectly, exit the
- 54:18course, you need to re enter exactly where you're meant to.
- 54:21And like I remembered lots of events where people have got
- 54:23disqualified because that's pretty much the rule.
- 54:27Like I remember when Jack ran and went off course at national
- 54:29half marathon champs didn't run any further, but he left the
- 54:32course where it wasn't meant to, didn't re enter where he left.
- 54:35And I'm pretty sure there's a lot of onus goes to the athlete,
- 54:39rightly or wrongly. But but my point is, is there a
- 54:44bit of an obligation on us to make sure we understand the the
- 54:47roots? Probably there's an.
- 54:49Obligation on both, but when you're paying £70 for an event
- 54:53you'd expect it to be fucking half organized.
- 54:56That could also be the the flip side at the end of the race
- 55:00though. Like imagine you didn't know the
- 55:01the route, the course, and then they're actually redirecting you
- 55:07through this extension. If you were like hard by the
- 55:10fact that I know the course and said I'm not fucking running
- 55:13that it's not part of the course, you know, I mean, but
- 55:18it's obviously an honest mistake like them done on purpose.
- 55:21The guy's made the wrong turn on his bike and it's a shame
- 55:23because people are just trying to they're stuck between a rock
- 55:26and a hard place, aren't they? Do we run the rest of the race?
- 55:29No, and it's going to come in at 20 point 5K and no one will get
- 55:32the chance to run a PB because they won't run the distance or
- 55:36they've tried to rectify things. So they've tried to do the right
- 55:41thing almost, and it's just a shame that they've got the
- 55:44distance a bit wrong and therefore if people wear on for
- 55:47a PB maybe they've slightly missed her.
- 55:51Yeah. And such a shame because like it
- 55:53is, I mean, we saw what the weather was like.
- 55:55It's a cracking morning. It is such a beautiful time of
- 55:59year to be running. You know, you do all your
- 56:00training through these average hotter months to come into this.
- 56:04And it does present a such a great opportunity to post 1/2
- 56:08marathon PB and people have chosen this over the HBF run as
- 56:12well. And yeah, real shame 50.
- 56:17Dollars it was by the way. So it's actually not crazy
- 56:20expensive, but obviously you still would like a proper
- 56:25course. $50.00 is a bit huh? Like, I'd rather.
- 56:33I mean, I'd rather. Minimum you would expect, isn't
- 56:36it? Yeah, you'd expect even.
- 56:37Just pay the freaking lead cyclist.
- 56:40Like, pay someone. Umm.
- 56:43Yes. And I think that's the point.
- 56:45That's right. There's enough money in there to
- 56:47get some things right. And what are the things you
- 56:49really want? And I think one is you want to
- 56:52stay on course, you want to run the right distance and you want
- 56:56like timing, but there's certain things that you, you really want
- 56:59to erase that you. Who organizes the city to surf?
- 57:04Is that WAMC as well? No, that's a different event,
- 57:10yeah. One of the things what
- 57:12frustrated me was because it's hard to be too emotionally
- 57:16involved given that we weren't there.
- 57:18And therefore I don't want to like weigh in too much because I
- 57:21wasn't there. And I don't know exactly what
- 57:22happened and what was said. But from not being there, I was
- 57:26trying to kind of follow it or see if like they'd come out and
- 57:30made any sort of statements or anything.
- 57:32So I was checking the social medias and particularly on the
- 57:35Facebook, it seemed that lots of people who had raced were kind
- 57:39of like in the comments on the post kind of saying like what
- 57:42happened? My watch says 21.8.
- 57:46And obviously people realizing they'd ran over distance, but
- 57:50these people perhaps didn't realize exactly what had gone
- 57:54on, as in they took the wrong turn.
- 57:56Then they tried to make up for it.
- 57:58And even still today, there's no kind of like formal
- 58:01acknowledgement as to what happened on the Facebook or the
- 58:04Instagram. So you'd like, I don't know,
- 58:08them to come out and take some sort of accountability or
- 58:12release some sort of statement to let everyone know what
- 58:14happened or apologize or just something, some sort of
- 58:18communication. That's a good shot.
- 58:25What's moving on? We had some professional
- 58:28results. The Diamond League circuit
- 58:29opened up over in Shanghai, China, and we previewed it last
- 58:35week. There was some good races.
- 58:36There was deep fields as there always is in the Diamond
- 58:38Leagues. We made some predictions.
- 58:42I don't even know if I can remember who the predictions
- 58:44were, so hopefully you can hold me to account if I got anything
- 58:48wrong. Remind me if I got anything
- 58:50right. Yeah, poor, cloudy and have a
- 58:53good day in the office. It just shows the difference.
- 58:58Yeah, it shows you the difference between like a paced
- 59:01race and like champion bracing. Like it is totally different.
- 59:04And champion bracing benefits some that needs more than
- 59:07others. Yeah, had similar, similar
- 59:11reflections as well as just that slightly faster pace as well.
- 59:15You know, like in horse racing and and this is this isn't a
- 59:19crack or anything like that, Claudia, but you know, they talk
- 59:22about like a step up in class. So you have like group three,
- 59:26group two, Group One races and like these really good horses at
- 59:29the previous class. When they step up, it's how will
- 59:33they go? And if they're just really good,
- 59:35they they do well. And I'm not saying this was
- 59:38necessarily reflective of that, but you can just see like the
- 59:43pace is noticeably quicker and it's on from the get go.
- 59:46And like you're talking milliseconds in terms of like
- 59:49tenths of a second. If you overshoot that, you're
- 59:51getting spat out, and you might only be getting spat out in the
- 59:54last 75 meters, but it's everything.
- 59:56And that shows, I think, Jess's experience, doesn't it, and
- 1:00:00confidence in that. She was like straight away,
- 1:00:03right back of the paces. Let's go cloudy a little bit
- 1:00:06reserved, a little bit hesitant, tried to set me.
- 1:00:08Like mid pack and then she has no control over it and it's kind
- 1:00:13of stretched out in the races away from her instantly.
- 1:00:18And you're tearing into Claudy here, but what's Claudy's PV?
- 1:00:22Yes, she pretty much. Ran.
- 1:00:24Yes. So leave that.
- 1:00:25Leave her alone, Jesus. But we just which we just where
- 1:00:31you tipped it for the I think the win.
- 1:00:33She finished 9th. That's all.
- 1:00:35There's more comment at you. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:00:42And. Even I think she ran very
- 1:00:45smartly because I think did you. So the way the race played out,
- 1:00:49the paces were we're taking them through what must have been
- 1:00:52about mid 350 pace and when they stepped off Jess Hall was taking
- 1:01:00on the pace. I think was it Halem was sitting
- 1:01:04sitting directly behind, and so was Dorcas Ewoi as well.
- 1:01:10Was was was. Prominent.
- 1:01:13When I thought she was gonna win, I was like, shit, I've
- 1:01:16written her off. And I gave you the option, and
- 1:01:19so I was cheering for her, but unfortunately she tied.
- 1:01:22She tied up a bit late, didn't she?
- 1:01:25But she was there with about 200 to go.
- 1:01:28But yeah, I think Jess made all the running of the race and a
- 1:01:33gap opened between the top few and the next group and Claudia
- 1:01:37was in that spot. Well, was sitting, was a couple
- 1:01:41back. And you were wondering, given
- 1:01:43her domestic form, should she have been more assertive than
- 1:01:45being right on that group, was my thought.
- 1:01:48But as it as it turned out, I think she probably did judge her
- 1:01:54effort really well. Like she I just don't think she
- 1:01:56had any more and she closed as quickly as she could.
- 1:01:59And it was Abbie Coble who closed the better of all the
- 1:02:01Aussies and CLO and finished third.
- 1:02:03So Halem won in 350 in 355 mid and then CJ Daguma was second
- 1:02:12and Abbie Caldwell closed fast. It was the fastest closure of
- 1:02:16that second group into third and 356.12.
- 1:02:19And I think does that put her that was a three second PV or
- 1:02:23something like that? And I think that will 4 seconds
- 1:02:26of sunning to that effect and puts it like, is that number two
- 1:02:29all time Aussie behind? Yes, it's crazy, isn't it?
- 1:02:33You almost have to reframe how you look at Abby now based on
- 1:02:37that. Like I'd say that's a like a bit
- 1:02:40of a step up in terms of she's just elevated herself.
- 1:02:44And does she have any looking at all now at Commonwealth Games or
- 1:02:50has that been selected because judging by this, like she came
- 1:02:54down the home street like a train, like she she ran so so
- 1:02:59well. But is it set in stone?
- 1:03:01Dutch Asshole and Claudia are going.
- 1:03:05Well, I think you can. I mean, traditionally you have
- 1:03:08up to three that you can send, but I think what's going to make
- 1:03:11it interesting is the fact that they kept the tank.
- 1:03:14Remember, there's like, because this is like some modified Comm
- 1:03:17games, remember? So the Comm games were initially
- 1:03:19to be held in regional Vic and then Victoria pulled out and
- 1:03:24then they've been. Then there's a smaller subset of
- 1:03:28events has been selected and I think the Aussie team is kept
- 1:03:32at, I don't know if it's like 60s athletics teams kept at six
- 1:03:35years, some something like that. So there's going to be pressure
- 1:03:37for sports and I reckon like rate world ranking and those
- 1:03:40sorts of things are going to play into it as well as those
- 1:03:42that get the auto qualifier which is winning nationals and
- 1:03:45running times I think. So off the back of that, if it
- 1:03:49was 3, then you would think it would be Abby, Jess and Claudia.
- 1:03:54Like she would be the third person likely to go, but maybe
- 1:03:57it's going to be more difficult. Which just shows like how the
- 1:04:03saying you're only as good as your most recent performance,
- 1:04:05how true it rings because remember a couple of months ago,
- 1:04:08like Lyndon was looking so good? Yeah.
- 1:04:12And and it was probably. Have been in the conversation.
- 1:04:16And Abby was probably, I perhaps overlooked by a few as well.
- 1:04:20No, like, didn't she beat Claudia at the Australian champs
- 1:04:24in the 800? And we, I think we overlooked
- 1:04:28that a little bit to say, well, that Claudia was focusing on the
- 1:04:30800 on the 1500, but maybe it was a bit unfair.
- 1:04:37But also, well, it might have been all of the Diamond League
- 1:04:41debuts, but potentially, Oh no, Claudia, I think she ran in
- 1:04:44London last year. But yes, a little bit
- 1:04:51disappointing to see Jess end up fading back to sex after like
- 1:04:55kind of being so aggressive and making the running.
- 1:04:58But hopefully she she times the peak well like she usually does.
- 1:05:03I feel like Jess is in that really, really tricky situation
- 1:05:06now. Whereas like she's so good and
- 1:05:08she's like on the edge of like being the Bush probably is one
- 1:05:12of the best ever, but like a different day.
- 1:05:16Like she times that better. Like that first lap could be a
- 1:05:19second or two slower and she's able to hold on and run a
- 1:05:22really, really fast time. Whereas now she's like just
- 1:05:25crossed that line a little bit and she just suffers so much for
- 1:05:28like she's at that level now. Or like the milliseconds, just
- 1:05:32pushing it can really hurt you. Yeah, at least she's learning
- 1:05:36these things in the non championship style races.
- 1:05:41Yeah. Which Speaking of timing, timing
- 1:05:44your runs well, did you guys watch the men's 800?
- 1:05:48Yeah, as. Excited for Owen's boy?
- 1:05:51How was that? And the bit of the grey, few
- 1:05:54grey grey hairs in amongst that got me excited.
- 1:05:58Man, he came from so far back. From the clouds.
- 1:06:03Yeah, yeah, that did. Big long neck on him.
- 1:06:08With the dip too. And the other was the guy that
- 1:06:11finished second. He was suffered.
- 1:06:13Didn't he throw the hand up? Didn't he sell him?
- 1:06:17I think he might have started to, might have called it too
- 1:06:20early. But yeah, Mark English, he won
- 1:06:24it in 14385. Second was Hangaru KET.
- 1:06:29Oh no, it's going to be KET the ball goo Hangaru in 14389 Yeah,
- 1:06:35from Botswana. And then third was Brandon
- 1:06:36Miller, who ran 144 flat and Mark English debut and his new
- 1:06:41Under Armour contract. Well, random Under Armour gear
- 1:06:45anyway, so I'm happy for him that he's picked up another
- 1:06:49company to support him. Part of Rinaldi's gang.
- 1:06:54Yeah, he's the, he's the, he's got the sacred sauce, doesn't
- 1:06:59He's the best 100M coach in the business.
- 1:07:02Yeah. Well knows what to do.
- 1:07:05Phenomenal, I was listening. Did you guys catch any of the
- 1:07:08Let's Run chat? They're speaking about them
- 1:07:11again. They were speaking about Jr. and
- 1:07:14they were speaking about the fact that and in in reference to
- 1:07:18Mark English's run and they mentioned when do you think Mark
- 1:07:22English? Where do you what year do you
- 1:07:24think he's PB? So he's third, he's 33 or 34,
- 1:07:27but when do you think what year was his PB set?
- 1:07:31Last year. Well oh shit was I hope.
- 1:07:35Maybe it's not his PB but it was definitely his.
- 1:07:37It was in 28. He ran 144 in 2018, so 8 years
- 1:07:42ago he apparently. No, he was at PB last year last.
- 1:07:47Year is. That true?
- 1:07:48Yeah. Did he run 48 in that long?
- 1:07:50But did he run 144 in 20? 18 it's been him eight years to
- 1:07:55yeah. To get back to and apparently
- 1:07:57Jr. has been coaching you for 18 months and he's like.
- 1:08:01Luke boys run really well, didn't he, whilst he was towards
- 1:08:03the front, like he looked that strong.
- 1:08:05And he was, yes. So he was 4th and he was, he
- 1:08:09took up the running after the pacemakers dropped out.
- 1:08:12So now he didn't look out of place at all, did he?
- 1:08:14Honda and a Diamond League, which was a as we speak about
- 1:08:18every time we watch a 800 meters like the fields are stacked like
- 1:08:24this is missing a lot of the notable names, but they're like
- 1:08:28the ones that did race are all incredible runners and now we're
- 1:08:34missing Peter Bowl who went home because his wife was went into
- 1:08:38labour apparently. The men's 3K, then I'll whip
- 1:08:42through the results and then we can chat.
- 1:08:44So German guy Mohammed Abdullah, he took the win in insanely fast
- 1:08:49meeting record world lead 725.77 with the the early celebration
- 1:08:56to Booth and Kenya's Reynold Chariot was in 2nd 726.11 and
- 1:09:02our boy Andreas Armgren was third in 72648 for a new Swedish
- 1:09:07record. Then the field goes on.
- 1:09:10Timothy Cherry, it was in there. Cornelius Kemboy.
- 1:09:13Matthew Kipsang, Seth O'Donnell back in 11th, which sounds like
- 1:09:18not a great result in many rounds. 729 broke 7:30.
- 1:09:25Considering this is like the first outdoor track of the like,
- 1:09:30top level season these times, I'd say like it bodes well for
- 1:09:35the rest of the year, doesn't it?
- 1:09:36Because they're only going to get faster.
- 1:09:39Yeah. So I would say normally when I
- 1:09:41watch a men's 3000 meters, I'm looking at 7:30 as like the,
- 1:09:46the, the winning time, you know, that 62nd pace light set for 60
- 1:09:50seconds and then they're racing at that.
- 1:09:53And again, this is credit to let's run for mentioning this,
- 1:09:57but I think they said that the previous record for the most sub
- 1:10:02730 finishes in a 3000 meters was 7.
- 1:10:08And there was was at 14 in this one.
- 1:10:11Outrageous. And yeah, when that guy, when he
- 1:10:16won and he said you're world lead national record and then on
- 1:10:21Grim was in 3rd and he'd run a Swedish record, my first thought
- 1:10:26was how isn't that guy considering he's German, he
- 1:10:30hasn't run a European record if he's beaten on green.
- 1:10:33And then I remembered Jacobs run. 717 is like, yeah, he's
- 1:10:41he's ruined up for everyone else because these times ordinarily I
- 1:10:45you don't see 725, you might see 728 to 732.
- 1:10:48For a lot of these, you don't see 725 and then he's just
- 1:10:52spoiled it by running that. Do you know much about this
- 1:10:54German Blue prior to this Mohammed?
- 1:10:56No, no, he's sort of pretty under the radar, right?
- 1:11:01Like he's not someone I remember us previewing in the past.
- 1:11:04So someone I have to do some some homework on obviously
- 1:11:10Reynold Chariot, did he medal? I think he might have medaled at
- 1:11:15the in the 1500 at the world Champs.
- 1:11:17Is that right? Yeah, Yeah, I think so.
- 1:11:20Yeah, so and so you've got Reynold Chariot, who's I think
- 1:11:24World Championship 1500 meter medalist Andreas Armgren, who
- 1:11:28medaled at the most recent world champs, and then Timothy
- 1:11:32Chariot, who's former world champion himself or, or, and
- 1:11:37he's this bloke, I wouldn't say he out kicked them.
- 1:11:40He actually just, he stole the gap on them and he just didn't.
- 1:11:44And they and he was looking back, he was running scared, but
- 1:11:47he held him off. Yeah, it was the the brave way
- 1:11:52to do it, wasn't it? Fair play to him.
- 1:11:53It never usually ends quite well when they go like that.
- 1:11:56No. And so, yeah, it was great.
- 1:11:59And to be, yeah, I doubt he probably did have the wheels.
- 1:12:02Did he like to to in terms of these kickers cool to see and
- 1:12:08finishing quickly? You know, like you sort of
- 1:12:11you've seen just on these rivet for these longer Rd. races and
- 1:12:15you don't really see his turn of turn a foot.
- 1:12:18But you know, after having that conversation with him that his
- 1:12:21background is from the you know, the short, the middle distance,
- 1:12:25short distance track track. So nice to see that still there.
- 1:12:31Yeah. And yeah, not to overlook the
- 1:12:33time either. I think of seeing a bit of a
- 1:12:35clip from him afterwards. And he said it's not often he's
- 1:12:39like surprised with the results, which I took as though like he's
- 1:12:42so dialed into his train and he almost knows to the second what
- 1:12:46he's going to run. And this was a positive
- 1:12:48surprise. So I think he said he's got, is
- 1:12:52he doing a 5K? Isn't this weekend coming in
- 1:12:56Xiamen again in China or maybe a week's break?
- 1:12:59But his next race being a 5K is pretty exciting if he's running
- 1:13:04national record. Now what does 2?
- 1:13:10Dare we say 726 / 5 K? Yeah, it'd be pretty.
- 1:13:15So I mean, the only problem is when they they sometimes the
- 1:13:19points key off the word record. So Jacob's cooked them.
- 1:13:25We should mention, I think Seth O'Donnell, that's the second
- 1:13:28fastest 3000 meters behind Stewie Mcswain, I think, right,
- 1:13:34which is a pretty good effort. And he beat the home the likes
- 1:13:37of Bahane Balu, who I'm pretty sure that's who I tipped and
- 1:13:43getting it Wiley who sees is he the stapler?
- 1:13:49Either way, they're these are like top, top class athletes.
- 1:13:52So not to, yeah, pretty impressive.
- 1:13:57Seth has almost like skipped the middle staff, hasn't he?
- 1:14:01Like one minute he was running around Victoria Cross country,
- 1:14:05like almost. He was in that stage where he
- 1:14:09was on the national level, but he would finish like 8th to 10th
- 1:14:13or something. Like he wasn't really top of the
- 1:14:16national level. And then now here he is in
- 1:14:18Diamond League fields. Like it's amazing to be fair.
- 1:14:21Yeah. And it's one thing to get a gig
- 1:14:23in one of these, but then it's another thing to hold the pack.
- 1:14:26And you notice when it started to stretch out because they
- 1:14:29literally are just ticking off these 62nd laps.
- 1:14:33And you're wondering, can he hang tough there because like
- 1:14:35what the domestic 3000 meter chance?
- 1:14:38So they're running, you know, a couple of seconds a lapse slower
- 1:14:42than this at least. And so it's much more.
- 1:14:45Comfortable by the 5th floor. Exactly.
- 1:14:49And so and so to see yeah, to see him hanging tough and he
- 1:14:53was, he was hanging tough in that, but in that main group was
- 1:14:57pretty cool because where did. He said said all time come Myers
- 1:15:03has run 727 as well. There you go.
- 1:15:07Is that indoors though 27? Oh yeah, probably will be
- 1:15:11running. Yeah.
- 1:15:12Boston, yeah. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:15:14I think I heard he mentioned maybe he must have been
- 1:15:16referencing outdoors. And then because where do you
- 1:15:21think say with Joe and like, because Joe is sort of one of
- 1:15:25those is now getting to the point where he wants to be
- 1:15:28competitive. Like, wouldn't it be fun to see
- 1:15:31him trying to to do what Seth's doing, which is where do I sit
- 1:15:34relative to these guys? Yeah, now especially he's got
- 1:15:40the Nike support, like gives you that profile that you wouldn't
- 1:15:44have otherwise had even if you did have the times, doesn't it?
- 1:15:48Like there's so many people across the world who can run
- 1:15:51very fast, but it like if you don't have the right agent or
- 1:15:54you haven't got a profile with Brandon and stuff, you can't get
- 1:15:57the race entries. So he's got a better chance now.
- 1:16:02Yeah, which is how cool is Ace having to just piss in his own
- 1:16:05cup? Got no agent like hey can I hand
- 1:16:08this in so I can sort of get my time ratified?
- 1:16:13Imagine he had to just flown home and not not known about it
- 1:16:17and then he his record like was ineligible.
- 1:16:20Yeah, it would have been any might have been expensive,
- 1:16:24expensive mistake. The women's 5K also happened.
- 1:16:30This was wasn't part of the broadcast so I'm actually seeing
- 1:16:33this race. It was a non Diamond League
- 1:16:34event which is quite bizarre given the greatest of all time
- 1:16:38Faith Capier gone warn in 1424 world lead.
- 1:16:42It was very very tightly contested though.
- 1:16:44So second, third and 4th all round 1424.
- 1:16:49So Lukina Ambor of Ethiopia, Seniat Gattachu of Ethiopia,
- 1:16:55Medina Issa of Ethiopia all 1424 and then in fact second down to
- 1:17:028th are Ethiopian. Rose Davis of Australia was in
- 1:17:0714th for season's best 1453 sub 15 is nothing to undermine and
- 1:17:14Modi sky ring 16th and 1510 also.
- 1:17:18So I mean I don't know how those Aussie girls are supposed to
- 1:17:21compete with that 1420s. It's, it's almost like a
- 1:17:25different, different league, isn't it?
- 1:17:29Yeah, I think it went to the form book as far as like the
- 1:17:32result goes, but that's not 5 hundredths of a seconds,
- 1:17:34probably tighter than what you would anticipate, right.
- 1:17:36So I I wonder if maybe Faith is just getting stuck into a
- 1:17:44season. Yeah, first time hearing hearing
- 1:17:49about her for a while, isn't it? I do wonder as well with the
- 1:17:545000 meters in in China, I like, I remember, I think we said this
- 1:17:59last week, but some of those events it's not made for, it's
- 1:18:02not super conducive. Like maybe the 3K is just short
- 1:18:05enough where you don't overheat, but the 5K is probably there's
- 1:18:09there's probably a bit of tax paid in terms of the conditions.
- 1:18:14Do you think and fate will stick with the five KS or as you drop
- 1:18:18back down to the 1500? I think she's got a better
- 1:18:22chance in the 1500. What about you?
- 1:18:25I don't know who's in the 5K. Oh, and there's no Chibet,
- 1:18:29right? Chibetz.
- 1:18:29Yeah, like Faith on our day can run like 14 low.
- 1:18:33Yeah, she probably does. Yeah, Yeah, probably.
- 1:18:37But sure, what's on. Actually, there's nothing that
- 1:18:40were what's that the thing at the end of the year ultimate
- 1:18:42champs probably give up, for which maybe the world world only
- 1:18:48championships. Good mentioned.
- 1:18:51Don't everyone who wins any Diamond League throughout the
- 1:18:54season, that's an automatic qualifier to that World Ultimate
- 1:18:58champs at the end of the season. So all of these race winners
- 1:19:01that we've read out have secured the spot early doors, I think.
- 1:19:08It's done by points as well, so you can see their position is on
- 1:19:12the fair side and then that for winning the race get eight
- 1:19:14points, so then you get in on a on points.
- 1:19:20It would be good to good to follow along because that's
- 1:19:22probably going to crescendo a lot of the World Athletics for
- 1:19:25us this year. So those results were brought to
- 1:19:27you by our trusty nutrition partner, Bix Nutrition.
- 1:19:31If you would like to access some of their products.
- 1:19:34Have we got some more? No, no, sorry.
- 1:19:37I'm just that excited. Sorry I shouldn't interrupt you
- 1:19:41at rate but. Oh well, this is better AD
- 1:19:44anyway. Probably.
- 1:19:45Yeah, visit biggsvitamins.com to try your gels like Ryan did when
- 1:19:50we rode together Owen on Sunday. Yay, Congrats Ryan.
- 1:19:55What flavour? Strawberry on the your
- 1:19:58recommendation first taste. Matt Nice and there.
- 1:20:03Is and during the back end of that ride, you know, sometimes
- 1:20:08you will open a gel and like take it in three goes over like
- 1:20:1310 minutes. This wasn't one of those
- 1:20:16occasions. This was like straight down the
- 1:20:20hatchet as yeah, I had to text RAF and say is this program
- 1:20:25right of is the is the triathlons program just like
- 1:20:29flipped some things have got a 90 minute run and a 90 minute
- 1:20:33ride here and he said it was right.
- 1:20:36So yeah, I was pretty tired yesterday, bit of fuel and going
- 1:20:39on. So wait please, something you'd
- 1:20:42more than one gel Did you? Or slowly easing into it. 2 gels
- 1:20:48and two scoops of drink mix. Ah, fair, fair.
- 1:20:51Nice nice, nice. I'm yet to try the Apple ones.
- 1:20:53I want to try the Apple ones. Yeah, you got them for us.
- 1:20:59I have, I have, I just need to try.
- 1:21:01I haven't gotten the chance to whack one open yet.
- 1:21:05To BC. Gel and a boiled egg is
- 1:21:07interesting combo or. Maybe like drizzle the up the
- 1:21:11gel onto the egg, be nice, huh? Yeah, you haven't.
- 1:21:15Tried the the apple yet? Because she's too easy having
- 1:21:18these five course meals at work. Boys today was good, had my
- 1:21:26sourdough bread with this like guacamole wet like jalapeno in
- 1:21:30it as well so it's a big kick to it.
- 1:21:32And then I've started my beetroot loading so I'm also had
- 1:21:36like fucking 4 big slices of beetroot with some leaves, some
- 1:21:40memolentils, black beans, sweet corn, some cherry tomatoes and
- 1:21:46some bent Turkey breasts chopped up.
- 1:21:50Yeah. Fuel, huh?
- 1:21:54It's impressive. It's you're very lucky.
- 1:21:56I'm very jealous. Handful of blueberries.
- 1:21:59Non Patreon members might be quite confused I'm sure.
- 1:22:02Maybe we've only spoken about Evan's luxuries over there, but
- 1:22:07if you'd like to join Patreon, this is the type of stuff you're
- 1:22:10missing out on. Absolute quality content.
- 1:22:15And that being said, we do appreciate everyone who is in
- 1:22:18Patreon right now. It's it's nice to see all your
- 1:22:21support and we enjoy doing it for you.
- 1:22:23So thanks everyone. Running news then powered by
- 1:22:29Gnomeo. Owen and I will be taking a shot
- 1:22:31of Gnomeo, if not 2 on the weekend.
- 1:22:37I might take it the day before 1 the day before I heard, I heard
- 1:22:41a lot of boys do that now. So I might take one the day
- 1:22:44before and then won a couple of hours even though boys when
- 1:22:48you're facing a half ten, I'm going to start doing my runs.
- 1:22:51So tomorrow I've sort of my last sort of warm up session.
- 1:22:55So that's on that. Like I'll probably get that done
- 1:22:57at 8:00 and then I think Wednesday I'll try and like do
- 1:23:01my run in strides at like 10:00 at night.
- 1:23:05Thursday the same when I get there I'm just trying to get
- 1:23:09into routine because it like I'm normally fast asleep like a
- 1:23:13little baby at that time. We have a nap beforehand.
- 1:23:18I'll join the day 100%. I won't.
- 1:23:20I won't be able to stay up. Yeah, I've, we're not.
- 1:23:24We've done, you know, some when we have our track races here on
- 1:23:27a Friday night. I'll yeah, if I can have a
- 1:23:30little afternoon nap so I can. All the caffeine load them.
- 1:23:35Yeah, I don't know. I'm going to go to bed after.
- 1:23:39You'll be well if if it goes well, I'll be absolutely wired.
- 1:23:46Call us early record. Oh yeah, it'll be a Saturday.
- 1:23:53Wait, what day is it on your Saturday night?
- 1:23:56Saturday night, yeah. If you could.
- 1:23:59Be finishing into the start of my race.
- 1:24:02HVF, yeah. On here, I'm itching to ask you
- 1:24:09what you're doing for the rest of the week and stuff, but we'll
- 1:24:11we'll save that for the new agenda.
- 1:24:15It's a news I'm actually I'm treating myself later on the
- 1:24:18way. Oh, here we go.
- 1:24:22Yeah, emptying the bank balance again.
- 1:24:25Well, not really, but we'll try after OK, next marathon, which
- 1:24:30is going to be Berlin, where he ran 202 last year.
- 1:24:34And his fellow sub to our marathoner Yarmouth Cajolcha has
- 1:24:38also confirmed his next marathon and he's going to Valencia.
- 1:24:42So is Berlin September and Valencia December.
- 1:24:46I guess the obvious question is will either of them run a PB?
- 1:24:52I think if you're going. To pick a course faster than
- 1:24:56London, then Berlin or Valencia are the ones to pick.
- 1:25:02So. And I think the only thing that
- 1:25:05made it very difficult, like Salway, I think split like 6030
- 1:25:09last year. Remember they still set him off
- 1:25:11at world record target pace and he just, even though it was
- 1:25:13blazing hot. So yeah, I mean, Berlin's has a
- 1:25:19history. Of world records in.
- 1:25:20The marathon. So I think it's a great
- 1:25:22opportunity. And then we all know what
- 1:25:24Valencia, how special Valencia is.
- 1:25:26So if if they're both to pick, it's a shame they're not going
- 1:25:30against each other. I think what made London so
- 1:25:33special was the fact that they all race to each other.
- 1:25:36I think it depends on where and. John career goes.
- 1:25:40Like if he goes Valencia down to we'll just.
- 1:25:43I'd say don't knock. Out a fast time and but I don't
- 1:25:48know yeah, I think. Valencia.
- 1:25:50'S bit like it's more stacked is around the top end.
- 1:25:54Some reason every time I think of Berlin, I just think of.
- 1:25:57One person. Running through them gates, the
- 1:25:59Brandenburg gates, whatever you call it.
- 1:26:01But Valencia, like I feel like Valencia's.
- 1:26:05Got such a history of was like 30 plus national records broken
- 1:26:08there. But are they breaking the world
- 1:26:10record there? Maybe not Even so, though.
- 1:26:14If it is more stacked, who else is?
- 1:26:16Going off at sub toothpaste he's going to be by himself from 5K
- 1:26:20if that's what he's going for. Well that's always the crazy
- 1:26:23part is you have to get like a sub 60.
- 1:26:26Half marathon at a pace and even then they're cooked at halfway.
- 1:26:30But they're better off just pacing each other, being in the
- 1:26:33same race. Yeah, Kajal.
- 1:26:37Chin knowing what? He's capable of is a little bit.
- 1:26:39Dangerous but like that would just be going by the script and
- 1:26:43as you know things don't always go is what they should slightly
- 1:26:48off pace but now that. But.
- 1:26:51Tan looks like tangent, but the UK London Marathon, I think the
- 1:26:57ballot may have opened and this is off the Real Science Sports
- 1:27:01podcast. So again, it's just other
- 1:27:02content. But they were saying that I
- 1:27:05think 1.8% of Brits of Red have put their name in the ballot to
- 1:27:10participate in London next year. So one in 50 Brits are wanting
- 1:27:13to run London. That's how popular it is off the
- 1:27:16back of the yeah, world record. So what's that?
- 1:27:20The population is about 70 million.
- 1:27:23So that's about 1.4 million have gone in, but did I hear that
- 1:27:28like 90,000? Americans.
- 1:27:30Have applied it was done the last run podcast or something
- 1:27:34like that something crazy 60 was it 60,000 people do it Hey,
- 1:27:37because it was a world. Record event this year but might
- 1:27:41be able to double that obviously if they do 2.
- 1:27:44Days true so. Far it's getting.
- 1:27:49Crazy. Runnings just gone bananas.
- 1:27:55Have you got here, Owen Gout Gout reportedly.
- 1:27:57Signs an 8 year. Adidas Steel with 4,000,000 +
- 1:28:01500 KA year. Yeah, I think that brings them
- 1:28:05up to. The Brisbane.
- 1:28:07Olympics. So basically they're back and
- 1:28:08I'm until Brisbane, which, yeah, it's a nice little safety isn't
- 1:28:14it? For what age is 17?
- 1:28:18Shit, if I was him, I'd hope. That's staggered towards.
- 1:28:21Brisbane. Because if he's worth 500K,
- 1:28:24yeah. Wow.
- 1:28:26What's he worth by then? I thought you mean you might
- 1:28:29have spent it. Revealing him.
- 1:28:33Oh well, that too, yeah. Yeah, don't.
- 1:28:36Don't be dropping 8 million into his account now.
- 1:28:38He'd be running No PBS Africa. Darren Mcelhenny, your boy Owen,
- 1:28:47who signed with Hoka, seen that video?
- 1:28:52Yeah, it might be in there a lot.
- 1:28:54More but. Did see their video they put up
- 1:28:57him and Scott B we're doing a workout in font and I think his
- 1:29:02last 400 was like 55 like at altitude after doing like yeah,
- 1:29:10all is 400 for sub 60. He didn't like a mile 3-4
- 1:29:13hundreds a mile 3-4 or something like that.
- 1:29:15It was crazy, crazy, crazy workout yeah he just wanted me
- 1:29:20yeah. I want to know where he's,
- 1:29:22what's his first races because it's gonna be exciting because
- 1:29:27is he as he's. Come off the back of a bit of a
- 1:29:29injury spell. He's just getting back now.
- 1:29:32No, he was good last year. You don't.
- 1:29:34Alright. Last year, he was back.
- 1:29:35To Michael, Yeah, call me. Dalton's injured at the moment,
- 1:29:41but. Yeah, super, super.
- 1:29:44Super excited to see where he goes next.
- 1:29:46One's your zone. Yeah, so.
- 1:29:50People might know the name. Kibiwa candy, He basically came
- 1:29:56out that he was doping. I think he was the third
- 1:29:58fastest. Ever half.
- 1:29:59Marathoner. And yeah, it's after coming out
- 1:30:03that he was like, he's been charged again for, like,
- 1:30:05tampering with the doping control.
- 1:30:08So yeah, I'm not sure how much bigger a ban you can get, but I
- 1:30:12think he's just fuck off and like, leave the sport if you're
- 1:30:16at that shit. Why can't your lifetime him at
- 1:30:19that stage? Yeah.
- 1:30:21Like go away, I get it's. Hard to get worse than cheating,
- 1:30:25but then. Shit as well the fact that you
- 1:30:30cheating. Like he should be handed a
- 1:30:33lifetime. Bomb.
- 1:30:34Sure, we go to the. Does this make you think?
- 1:30:38Like in my head. Then I'm like, all right, if he
- 1:30:40was able to sort of like tamper with it, but he got caught is
- 1:30:43sort of boys that like just full on tamper what and get away with
- 1:30:48it. Yeah.
- 1:30:51Like it's the Wild West. Out there, yeah.
- 1:30:54I don't think it's a. Very.
- 1:30:59It sounds like there's a lot of things you can.
- 1:31:01Do to manipulate the system. Doesn't matter, sadly it will
- 1:31:05come out in the washing years to come on it.
- 1:31:08And then I'll feel like an idiot for defending people and kind of
- 1:31:12look at the positive side of things.
- 1:31:17Like what's the documentary the one on?
- 1:31:20Netflix Icarus. Oh, Icarus.
- 1:31:23Yeah, there'll be something. Like that about running.
- 1:31:26And then I'll just be gobsmacked and feeling like a fool.
- 1:31:30Should we go to the Diamond League preview or do you want to
- 1:31:33do the sound running? I'll just quickly quickly,
- 1:31:36quickly do sound running. And there's some big names in in
- 1:31:40this. I'll just quickly fly through
- 1:31:43it. So there is a women's 800 with
- 1:31:47the likes of Roching. Willis is probably biggest name
- 1:31:50there. She's fresh out of college.
- 1:31:52And the men's 800 is interesting.
- 1:31:54So you've got Donovan Brazier, Hobbs Kessler, Jake Whiteman and
- 1:31:58Josh Kerr, Bryce Hoppel and Isaiah Harris.
- 1:32:01And turning Krogan. So that turning Krogan, he was
- 1:32:03over in Australia, wasn't he? And actually in Josh.
- 1:32:08Kerr has the slowest PB John. Josh Kerr is the slowest.
- 1:32:11PB And this is an 800 women that wasn't 100.
- 1:32:17Yeah. Yeah, that's one being 100.
- 1:32:19Shit and. Josh didn't do too.
- 1:32:22Well, at the 8 hundreds in what was it called Grand Slam, did
- 1:32:26he? No, no.
- 1:32:29So. It's just working on us,
- 1:32:31probably top end, nowhere to hide and that failed it.
- 1:32:37No, definitely not. Well, it might be.
- 1:32:38Good, just hang on the back and try and kick.
- 1:32:40Them there's a men's 1500 with some good big names.
- 1:32:43You have Graham Blanks, Cooper Tier, Nico Young, Luke Houser,
- 1:32:47Parker Wolf, Liam Murphy, Eric Holt and then on Australia's
- 1:32:53side and Jack Anstey. He's in that one.
- 1:32:55So another just sit on the back and just hope for the best and
- 1:33:02the women's. 5K Graham Black pack of Albie.
- 1:33:04APB's listed. Yeah, I must.
- 1:33:08Have never run a 15 meters and women's 50.
- 1:33:13Women's 5K pretty. Stacked.
- 1:33:14You've got Pack of Albie, so she was really good in college but
- 1:33:17hasn't got a nice run over as a pro.
- 1:33:19You got Lauren Ryan from Australia, Marty Sky Ring.
- 1:33:23She's gone from Shanghai across to California.
- 1:33:27Wow, that just cannot be good. And you have Katie Snowden from
- 1:33:32the UK and they're probably. The bigger.
- 1:33:37Names And then the men's 5K again, like Joke, Jake, Dylan
- 1:33:43Jacobs, you got Hubbed and Samuel Morgan McDonald and
- 1:33:48Jackson Sharp, Drew Hunter, Kieran Tom Today, Adam Fogg,
- 1:33:52Friend of the show, David, David Malarkey, that Gulliver sing,
- 1:33:57the Indian guy and then Justin Knight, Toby Gillen as well.
- 1:34:02Yeah, just super like this weekend.
- 1:34:05It's pretty good for running and I'm guessing it'll be set up for
- 1:34:08that 13 minute wave light. It would be my guess.
- 1:34:12And have you been watching Morgan McDonald's YouTube series
- 1:34:15in the Breaking 13? That's what he's gone for, yeah.
- 1:34:19Yeah. Cool.
- 1:34:20Hey. Well, we weren't.
- 1:34:21Doing in depth preview. Of the Diamond League, unless.
- 1:34:24She's one who put there is that German guy in Abdullahi and I'm
- 1:34:29going to go and head to head again this weekend, this time in
- 1:34:32a 5K. Your chariot in there, basically
- 1:34:37the same field. Seth O'Donnell.
- 1:34:39'S in there it's. The three K just turned into a
- 1:34:415K which is super exciting. Yeah.
- 1:34:48Who's your? Tip Ron, I'm.
- 1:34:51Going to stay with on green and double down.
- 1:34:54I might you could ask me who's going to win the.
- 1:34:57World Cup and I might say on green.
- 1:35:02I like it. I'm fair enough to.
- 1:35:06It's must be a nice little package.
- 1:35:08To get for going over there, you know?
- 1:35:10I say it's all inclusive. Nice little hotel for the week.
- 1:35:16Be a good little experience as well.
- 1:35:18Just spend a couple of. Weeks in China.
- 1:35:21Yeah, because even though in between.
- 1:35:23Races sort of shit like you can't actually do anything
- 1:35:27because you're trying to conserve energy because World
- 1:35:31Champs is that. Is in Beijing next year.
- 1:35:35Oh, is that? Easy double going, give that
- 1:35:42media password. And he just.
- 1:35:45Because. It's not it's not risky, but why
- 1:35:49not? Let's hope he devils down Jacob
- 1:35:53crop haven't heard. Him before, but he's a 1240.
- 1:35:56Five guy, Yeah, or that Bernie's guy.
- 1:36:03Bailey arms off Jacob Crop as you know.
- 1:36:06I don't like. I'm going for South O'Donnell.
- 1:36:08I'd rather go for him than some of them.
- 1:36:11You've been burnt after not backing in your man Mark
- 1:36:14English. Yeah, done.
- 1:36:17No, I'll have it set. O'Donnell to get a PB.
- 1:36:19There we go. Good line under over 13. 10 the
- 1:36:25Women's. 15 Oh, what is that? That's what you're saying.
- 1:36:28Yeah. Oh, tricky, yeah.
- 1:36:32I'll go over. And not I.
- 1:36:34Just think the weather's. Always shit, that's all.
- 1:36:37It's not that shit. I'm back and I'm.
- 1:36:41Under be a good run, be a good. Run if they break 13 minutes
- 1:36:46there. Yeah, it's PBS 1312.
- 1:36:50Sub 1310 and. Get them into the top ten all
- 1:36:53time. Australian and the women's 1500.
- 1:36:56It's a win win run, isn't it? Yeah, you.
- 1:36:59Go. Replay of.
- 1:37:01Aussie dominance again. Yeah, so the same 5 Aussies that
- 1:37:06lined. Up the week just gone and racing
- 1:37:09again against each other. I don't see though all of The
- 1:37:15Ethiopians, but I do see that Halem Burke.
- 1:37:19Halem is right, is backing up. So and so.
- 1:37:22Is so is Dorcas away? So I think, I think it's between
- 1:37:29the let me know if you guys. Disagree, but I think it's
- 1:37:34probably. Between Halem Dorcas and the and
- 1:37:38the Aussies I'm going for. Claudia, she won't fail me
- 1:37:44twice. I'll go.
- 1:37:49GSL. Yeah, the Guma isn't.
- 1:37:51There is. She and she was the one who was.
- 1:37:53Closing really well on on the race the other night gone and
- 1:37:57Dorcas she's I'll accept I was wrong.
- 1:38:02You're not finished yet, Dorcas. Love and that could those.
- 1:38:05About the end of the episode. So we'll be back on Wednesday
- 1:38:08and we'll be talking all things race previews and training weeks
- 1:38:11over on the No Agenda show in Patreon.
- 1:38:15If you would like to join us, we would love to have you.
- 1:38:19Owen. I can exercise some of our pre
- 1:38:21race anxiety and Dean can poke fun and laugh at us being
- 1:38:27nervous wrecks or excited balls of anxiety.
- 1:38:30Owen's speaking, but he's on Muse.
- 1:38:34I've a good. YouTube Diaries for us.
- 1:38:37Oh, let's go. This popped up.
- 1:38:39Yeah, this pop doesn't go to. Now I like it.
- 1:38:41So it's called New Standard and it's basically BYU lads.
- 1:38:46So it's your man Taving Kitchen, this guy a character cutting and
- 1:38:51Isaac Hengren. So I actually think Taving
- 1:38:54Kitchen is going out with Jane Hengren by the videos and but
- 1:38:59basically it's just the three boys in college living the
- 1:39:02absolute dream and just got shows like races training and it
- 1:39:07is really, really cool. All them are short form, but
- 1:39:12yeah, I I don't know why. It's just like they before a
- 1:39:15race one time, like they get up like 5:00 in the morning and
- 1:39:19start chatting shit. They play a game of Fortnite, go
- 1:39:22back to bed, umm, then run like a sub 4 minute mile.
- 1:39:27It's crazy shit what they do, but umm it got it's good.
- 1:39:30It just gives you like sort of a a look into what it's like in
- 1:39:34BYU and like that sort of college sort of running life.
- 1:39:38If you get me. Umm, it's super cool, super
- 1:39:41cool. 3 basically 3 lads are just wired on the the thumbnail.
- 1:39:50Of one of the videos here, the guy in the middle.
- 1:39:52It looks like a tank. Who's that character?
- 1:39:55Caught him. Yeah, he's a so farming a minor.
- 1:39:57He's good. Yeah.
- 1:40:01There's. 3 lads live in the absolute.
- 1:40:04Tree I'd love to have went to America for college just for him
- 1:40:07so fun, don't you think if he could have had your.
- 1:40:10Time again, that would be the dream.
- 1:40:13Yeah, I think I'd go, but yeah, that's a good YouTube.
- 1:40:16Give it a watch. OK.
- 1:40:18I'll take your recommendation on that one.
- 1:40:21Only a couple of K followers say you've called it early.
- 1:40:24On Yeah, yeah, Yeah. Heard her first to get the boys
- 1:40:29on it feels like. They they may be of like what
- 1:40:35was. The the old one with Kuperte and
- 1:40:37Carl Hoffa when they would bank for bothered new next Gen.
- 1:40:43New Gen. yeah. It feels like they've kind of
- 1:40:46gone. Gone with that angle, replacing
- 1:40:48them the college phenoms. That's it.
- 1:40:51I've got I've actually got two up my sleeve what we can.
- 1:40:54Archive as well. Because I haven't fully watched
- 1:40:56them properly yet, but someone Joe Burden from my club at home
- 1:41:02asked me to tell you Owen about. Is it Sean Tobin?
- 1:41:06He's on YouTube. Oh, from what you've done.
- 1:41:08Yeah, we've done before. Yeah, I've done them.
- 1:41:10My bad And the. Second one comes from front
- 1:41:16runner. This is there's now a new start
- 1:41:18up one called Forged performance from a couple of lads there.
- 1:41:23So that one a watch, Yeah, after.
- 1:41:26Were you? Getting in that run, yeah.
- 1:41:28No, no, no, no shared off. It's Zander.
- 1:41:33'S the cameraman. For some of the young guns I'll
- 1:41:40have to check. It out.
- 1:41:41Watch. Yeah, even just the thoughts.
- 1:41:44Of making YouTube. Videos around training stuff
- 1:41:46makes me like respect the people that do, especially those who
- 1:41:50like kind of film it and add it themselves.
- 1:41:53It must just be take up so much time, both physically added in
- 1:41:57it and everything, but also mentally like thinking about
- 1:42:01different scenes and whatever they're doing.
- 1:42:03This podcast can almost feel like too much in itself, let
- 1:42:07alone. And we're just coming on here
- 1:42:09just speaking that alone. Yeah, trying to, like, make a
- 1:42:12storyline on a video to fair play to them.
- 1:42:15I've got a handheld sort of camera.
- 1:42:18Type thing still in the box. Ryan could be just what you
- 1:42:24need. I don't need that so.
- 1:42:31But yes, that. Is us then and.
- 1:42:33We shall speak later. Let's go.
- 1:42:38Look after. Yourself, I wouldn't.
- 1:42:39Be doing anything. I wouldn't do well I've.
- 1:42:44Booked me sauna for the night before for a couple of hours.
- 1:42:47Before sauna, is that not going down the self sabotage?
- 1:42:52Roofs. Yeah, well, sure.
- 1:42:54You went into the onsen, did you know?
- 1:42:5910 pastries. 10 pastries and an onsen fly.
- 1:43:03In. The.
- 1:43:06Right boys, Thanks. Take it easy.
- 1:43:11Good luck training. Talk to the outro.
- 1:43:15Close is easy double. Every week runner talking way
- 1:43:19too deep here. Play lock in your part of the
- 1:43:21crew. This is easy.
- 1:43:22Double welcome to you this. Is easy double welcome to you.
- 1:43:37This is easy trouble. 1.3 debates on shoes and.
- 1:43:40Carbon plates. Is it threshold or just steady
- 1:43:42pace? World champs, trials.
- 1:43:44Who's in shape, who's peaking early, who's late to the gate?
- 1:43:47Storage from sessions that nearly broke us and races that
- 1:43:49taught us patients to focus serious goals.
- 1:43:51But we keep it light because run is better when it's shed, right?
- 1:43:54No egos, no smoke, just miles and true from club runners up to
- 1:43:57the world class music. You're chasing times.
