- 0:09Speaker 1: Fantastic? A million bucks? Tony all Right? Joining me today
- 0:14Speaker 1: is an absolute icon star of classic sitcoms Taxi and
- 0:16Speaker 1: Who's the Boss, as well as one of the quintessential
- 0:19Speaker 1: nineties films of my childhood, Angels in the Outfield. And
- 0:22Speaker 1: on Sunday, October nineteenth, you will be performing Sinatra and
- 0:25Speaker 1: Stories with the Nasau Pop Symphony, which is a benefit
- 0:28Speaker 1: concert for cerebral palsy. That event is at the Tillis
- 0:32Speaker 1: Center for Performing Arts on the campus of l a U. Post.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It is an honor to speak with the legend himself,
- 0:37Speaker 1: mister Tony Danza. Tony, how's it going, buddy?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Thank you? Justin that's very nice. Thank you. I appreciate it. Yeah,
- 0:44Speaker 2: I'm excited about this show.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah. So what can fans expect at this event? What
- 0:50Speaker 1: exactly is going to be going on?
- 0:52Speaker 2: I wrote a show. It's for the It was for
- 0:55Speaker 2: the Carlisle here in the city, and I've been playing
- 0:58Speaker 2: it there and it's just been landing. It's been great.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's called Sinatra Stories because when I was a young kid,
- 1:07Speaker 2: my mother was a super Sinatra fan, and she turned
- 1:11Speaker 2: me on to him when I was like eight and
- 1:14Speaker 2: got me excited about him. And then, by a coincidence
- 1:17Speaker 2: years later, when I went out to Hollywood, I ended
- 1:20Speaker 2: up being I got to be around him and with him. Uh,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, and it's it's nuts, you know, it's really
- 1:28Speaker 2: kind of crazy. And so I wrote this show about it,
- 1:31Speaker 2: and you know, it's all Sinatra's music, but it's it's
- 1:34Speaker 2: done in a way with aroundom stories and stuff, and
- 1:37Speaker 2: it's been landing pretty good. And they came. Luke Louke came,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you know, the maestro out there came and he saw
- 1:47Speaker 2: the show and suggested that we did I did this
- 1:51Speaker 2: one other time with another show I had written there
- 1:54Speaker 2: that was called Standards and Stories, and we did it.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I did, and I sang with the chart the whole act,
- 2:05Speaker 2: my whole act, as I do with a four piece act,
- 2:08Speaker 2: but only for the whole symphony orchestra.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So you had a relationship with Frank Sinatra. I guess
- 2:14Speaker 1: you guys met in the eighties. I'm assuming eighty one
- 2:17Speaker 1: eighty one, And I mean that is like top tier
- 2:21Speaker 1: as far as celebrity goes. That really there wasn't too
- 2:24Speaker 1: many people on his level.
- 2:26Speaker 2: He just he did my show, I know. I mean,
- 2:29Speaker 2: it's crazy.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It's the same how starstruck. How starstruck were you when
- 2:33Speaker 1: you first met him?
- 2:35Speaker 2: You know? Uh, I was show. The thing that happened
- 2:41Speaker 2: was is that he knew who I was. He had
- 2:45Speaker 2: you know, he he's you know. But anyway, I don't
- 2:47Speaker 2: want to give him I'm gonna give it a give
- 2:49Speaker 2: away half of the freaking show. I don't want to
- 2:51Speaker 2: do that. But no, I you know, I'm telling you.
- 2:56Speaker 2: He was in a movie with him, Cannibal Run, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: that's when I met him, and and I was I
- 3:04Speaker 2: became really good friends with Sammy Kahan, the great songwriter,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and he was deep in snapt circle, so I tagged along.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Now you do this show obviously live. Do you still
- 3:18Speaker 1: get jitters? Do you still get nervous? I mean, I'm
- 3:21Speaker 1: interviewing you right now, my heart racing a mile a minute.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Do you know you're full of blown?
- 3:28Speaker 1: Absolutely not?
- 3:29Speaker 2: You know what, you know what it is. It's that
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's that it's not so much that you get nervous
- 3:33Speaker 2: that you're going up there and stuff, because you know
- 3:35Speaker 2: you've been up there now, this is not something you
- 3:37Speaker 2: haven't done before. But you want to execute. You want
- 3:41Speaker 2: to be the best you can be. And uh and
- 3:43Speaker 2: you want to you know, and my show is pretty
- 3:46Speaker 2: reverential to the to the man and his music, so
- 3:51Speaker 2: you know you want to serve that too, you know,
- 3:53Speaker 2: you want to, you want to pay you know. It's
- 3:55Speaker 2: it's it's almost tribute, you know, it really is. It's
- 3:58Speaker 2: it's I love doing it and I can't wait to
- 4:02Speaker 2: do it with the symphony orchestray you had you buy it.
- 4:05Speaker 2: This is gonna be crazy.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I'm super excited. I'm super excited for that. It's going
- 4:08Speaker 1: to be. As I mentioned Sunday, October nineteenth, at the
- 4:11Speaker 1: Tillis Center at the campus of lu Post now Tony.
- 4:14Speaker 1: A lot of people might not know this that you
- 4:16Speaker 1: were a professional boxer, and I was watching some footage
- 4:19Speaker 1: of you today and watching you versus Billy Perez, which
- 4:23Speaker 1: I'm sure is a fight that you know of insane.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I mean, you literally punched the guy out of the ring,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and that.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Referee should have got in there a little bit faster
- 4:32Speaker 2: than he did, that's for sure. Yeah. You know, you
- 4:36Speaker 2: know you talk to keep going until the referee stops you.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know, I'm curious. Do you think your boxing career
- 4:43Speaker 1: helped you with your acting? Maybe they like think on
- 4:46Speaker 1: the fly and improvise a bit.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I think boxing gave me a lot of self assurance. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and it was like something, you know, I really thought,
- 4:58Speaker 2: tell you to Justine when I found bout it, I got.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I got entered into Golden Gloves one of my friends
- 5:06Speaker 2: because I was always in street fights. And so my
- 5:10Speaker 2: friends come on, a tough guy, Let's see how tough
- 5:12Speaker 2: you are. And back then, you just filled out the
- 5:14Speaker 2: entry blank in the Daily News sent it in, and
- 5:17Speaker 2: they sent it in and I didn't know. I gotta.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I got a notice for a physical I thought I
- 5:22Speaker 2: got drafted for a while whole. Yeah, and then but
- 5:26Speaker 2: it was for the Golden Gloves. And I went to
- 5:27Speaker 2: the bar that night. Everybody was there and yeah, and
- 5:31Speaker 2: I said, okay, and I did it and I I
- 5:34Speaker 2: did real well. The first year, I knocked out six
- 5:37Speaker 2: guys and the paper called me the guy in the
- 5:42Speaker 2: paper Jack Smith that the writer in the Daily News
- 5:46Speaker 2: called me the battling bartender. I served Mittens instead of Manhattan,
- 5:53Speaker 2: you know, And that was it. I got hooked. I
- 5:55Speaker 2: was hooked on boxing. I thought Oh, I found what
- 5:57Speaker 2: I was supposed to do.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Now you at the you went the other route because
- 6:02Speaker 1: now you see in today's day and age, celebrity is
- 6:04Speaker 1: getting into boxing. Do you have any take on where
- 6:08Speaker 1: boxing is now, because you know, maybe with the creation
- 6:12Speaker 1: of UFC, it sort of lost a lot of its
- 6:14Speaker 1: luster and then there's a lot of quote unquote like
- 6:16Speaker 1: freak show fights with celebrities and you know, YouTube personalities.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think that that points to the
- 6:24Speaker 2: dearth of personalities in the in the actual boxing game,
- 6:28Speaker 2: so that you know, guys that are influencers, as you say,
- 6:32Speaker 2: you know, can come out and be that guy. What's
- 6:34Speaker 2: his name?
- 6:35Speaker 1: J Paul.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Oh, he's the biggest. He's the biggest money maker in
- 6:39Speaker 2: boxing right now. Everybody wants to fight him. You know,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I wish I could fight him. You gotta make a
- 6:46Speaker 2: lot of money, but no, I you know, it's it's listen,
- 6:51Speaker 2: It's all about the guys that come along, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 2: the great fighters. And you know what else too. You
- 6:56Speaker 2: got to remember when we when I was a kid,
- 6:59Speaker 2: I want Muhammad Ali fight championship fights on Saturday afternoon
- 7:04Speaker 2: on White World of Sports. There was no pay per view,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know, you got to go through a lot now
- 7:08Speaker 2: to get to watch a fight, you know, and and
- 7:11Speaker 2: and as you say, the the MMA fights are so
- 7:14Speaker 2: much more accessible, you know, they're much more accessible. And
- 7:18Speaker 2: so I don't know, I don't you know, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 2: it's a guilty pleasure anyway, because you can't really get
- 7:24Speaker 2: your head banged around like that without it having an effect.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Tony. Do you ever look at reviews or
- 7:31Speaker 1: is that something you try and avoid? Like, I don't know,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I just get so self conscious and whenever I, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 1: look at a negative YouTube comment for a video I make,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and it always puts me down. I couldn't imagine being
- 7:43Speaker 1: at your level and maybe reading an article on a
- 7:46Speaker 1: newspaper for a movie review or a television show review.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Is that something you had to put away and just
- 7:52Speaker 1: you know, you know, a.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Long time ago, I was doing Who's Pause. I used
- 7:58Speaker 2: to take reviews, but I was doing TV movies and
- 8:01Speaker 2: they always got reviewed in the Hollywood Reporter or you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: and and and so I I used to make, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 2: the let's meet Tony's review Today. I got a review
- 8:13Speaker 2: and I would read it, and some of them were
- 8:15Speaker 2: really bad, Like I did this, Uh, this this picture
- 8:19Speaker 2: about a g I who was It was in Berlin
- 8:22Speaker 2: when the wall went up and he lost his girlfriend
- 8:25Speaker 2: was on the other side and and people were doing
- 8:28Speaker 2: accents and stuff and it was pretty good. I liked it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: But anyway, the reviewers said, by the time you've finished
- 8:34Speaker 2: watching this picture, and he was making fun of the people,
- 8:37Speaker 2: making you know, the their access, he goes. But the
- 8:40Speaker 2: time you finished watching this, you'll be saying no. As
- 8:44Speaker 2: soon as it ends, you'll say vy via v watching zees,
- 8:48Speaker 2: you know. So, I don't know. I've been getting some
- 8:52Speaker 2: really good reviews lately with the shows that's that's the
- 8:56Speaker 2: really unbelievable thing. But I know I've had my. I've
- 8:59Speaker 2: had my and you just take it on a chin,
- 9:02Speaker 2: don't worry about it. Justin it's no big deal, especially
- 9:05Speaker 2: if it's just some schmoll on the internet. Come on,
- 9:07Speaker 2: give me a break.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Well, one show that really pretty much as universally loved
- 9:12Speaker 1: would be Taxi and one of the best ensemble casts
- 9:15Speaker 1: of all time. You know, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, what
- 9:18Speaker 1: about Andy Kaufman. I mean, this guy's one of the
- 9:20Speaker 1: most interesting human beings ever. And I think a lot
- 9:23Speaker 1: of this comedy that you see in today's day and
- 9:26Speaker 1: age is so influenced by him, and people might not
- 9:30Speaker 1: even know his name. What was your relationship on the
- 9:33Speaker 1: set with him? And then off the set? Was it
- 9:35Speaker 1: very different? How was he to deal with?
- 9:38Speaker 2: You know? He was you know, he was an enigma
- 9:40Speaker 2: when he first came. You know, we were like a team.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And then and you remember Andy, Andy had a guy
- 9:46Speaker 2: that did him well. We so we had somebody to
- 9:49Speaker 2: work with because he only rehearsed Tuesday and came in
- 9:52Speaker 2: for the show Friday, because we did run through on
- 9:55Speaker 2: Tuesday and we did Friday, so he didn't rehearse That's
- 9:59Speaker 2: number one. So he wasn't exactly a team member. And
- 10:02Speaker 2: then you know he he lived on seaweed, He meditated
- 10:05Speaker 2: in his car. You know, he was. It was really
- 10:10Speaker 2: and for me, he was the guy we beat up
- 10:12Speaker 2: in our neighborhood, you know what I mean. It was
- 10:14Speaker 2: like that. So one night one day I grabbed a
- 10:18Speaker 2: fire's thing with shirt. He was doing something and I said,
- 10:23Speaker 2: I'm going to have it out with this guy. And
- 10:26Speaker 2: I took the fire stings off the wall and when
- 10:29Speaker 2: he walked into the into the from outside, I started
- 10:33Speaker 2: to spray him, and I figured he'd get mad and
- 10:36Speaker 2: we'd have it out. He just stood there, justin He
- 10:40Speaker 2: just stood there and let me empty the guy start.
- 10:44Speaker 2: And then I was frustrated. I was like, it was
- 10:47Speaker 2: so bad that he did get mad. Yeah, right, and
- 10:51Speaker 2: so that's that's him. And then finally we got we
- 10:54Speaker 2: got pretty close. We actually got pretty close. And the
- 10:57Speaker 2: thing that Andy really would be happy is that we're
- 11:01Speaker 2: having this conversation because that's what he wanted you to do.
- 11:04Speaker 2: He wanted you to wonder. Yeah, and he was really something.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean, he's talk about brave go up on stage
- 11:14Speaker 2: and lipsy the Mighty Mouse theme, you know, and it's
- 11:17Speaker 2: funny somehow, I mean, it's crazy. And I watched him,
- 11:22Speaker 2: you know, I refereed a couple of his wrestling matches.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of seventies and eighties pro wrestling,
- 11:28Speaker 1: So that whole thing with Jerry the King Lawler, to
- 11:31Speaker 1: me is it's so good, it's so ahead of its time.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think they wrestling took advantage of Andy.
- 11:39Speaker 2: If you remember he got smacked on the David let himano, Yes, yes,
- 11:43Speaker 2: a good chair, and that wasn't you know, that was
- 11:47Speaker 2: them guys taking advantage.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think he loved the business though, and I think
- 11:52Speaker 1: he was in on it. What did you think of him?
- 11:54Speaker 2: You can't be in on a smack like that, Justice,
- 11:57Speaker 2: trust you're not in on that. That's not was you know,
- 12:00Speaker 2: a big tough guy.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Did he mention that to you that he was upset
- 12:04Speaker 1: about that or is that.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Just you think he didn't have Yeah?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, what did you think? What did you think of
- 12:10Speaker 1: the movie Man on the Moon? Did you think that
- 12:12Speaker 1: was a good representation of his life or no?
- 12:15Speaker 2: I'm the only one not in it, I know, right, Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 2: you know why? I was on Broadway doing a view
- 12:21Speaker 2: from the bridge and Arthur Miller was alive. I was
- 12:24Speaker 2: doing it with Wow. Yeah, it was amazing. Uh what
- 12:29Speaker 2: do I think of it? That's all right? Uh, you know,
- 12:32Speaker 2: Carrie's great, he can do anything. But you know it.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It it's a it's a it's it's a what do
- 12:41Speaker 2: you what do you call? A pretty good overview of
- 12:44Speaker 2: what happened?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Jim Carrey's performance was great, but the
- 12:49Speaker 1: movie I think was a little hit or miss. But
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mentioned at the beginning of the interview, Angels in
- 12:55Speaker 1: the Outfield is one of my favorite movies. Uh, you know,
- 12:58Speaker 1: if you're growing up in my generation in a nineties kid,
- 13:00Speaker 1: that is like a quintessential movie. What was like filming
- 13:04Speaker 1: that movie? And did you have a relationship, you know
- 13:07Speaker 1: with Joseph Gordon Levit, I know you did a movie
- 13:08Speaker 1: with them years later. Did you know at that young
- 13:11Speaker 1: of an age that this kid, you know, is going
- 13:13Speaker 1: to be a megastar?
- 13:15Speaker 2: Oh? Like it was. He was a rollerblader like me.
- 13:18Speaker 2: So we skated around the state. We could skate around
- 13:21Speaker 2: the stadium. It was great, you know, it was that
- 13:23Speaker 2: that smooth concrete light on the stadium. It was amazing.
- 13:28Speaker 2: He's a good kid though, you know right, you know
- 13:30Speaker 2: that about him? Who knows what is who knew what
- 13:34Speaker 2: he was going to end up doing? But but he's
- 13:36Speaker 2: he was a great kid and he was fun to
- 13:39Speaker 2: work with too. And he skated. We skated every day.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Did you have a base Did you have a baseball
- 13:46Speaker 1: background at all or no?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Well? I played a lot. I played a lot of
- 13:50Speaker 2: fast pitch softball. Yeah, I didn't play that much baseball.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know. I was an inner city kid. So we
- 13:56Speaker 2: we played punchball and stickball. Yeah, yeah, but I played
- 14:00Speaker 2: a lot of you know, in Hollywood. When I first
- 14:04Speaker 2: got out in Hollywood, there was a showbiz softball league
- 14:08Speaker 2: that had forty eight team.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Wow.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Everybody in town had a team, you know. Rob Ryaner
- 14:14Speaker 2: had a team, Mark Harmon had a team, Michael Keaton
- 14:16Speaker 2: had a team. I had a team. You know, we
- 14:18Speaker 2: all had teams. And it was fast pitch, seventy foot
- 14:22Speaker 2: bases fast you can throw it under him without a windmill,
- 14:27Speaker 2: bunting and stealing. I mean, it was like baseball. And
- 14:31Speaker 2: and if you won, if you won, you took out
- 14:33Speaker 2: an ad in the trades, actually take out a full
- 14:36Speaker 2: page ad. My daughter be standing. They was so great,
- 14:41Speaker 2: really good. So I mean, but I'm a big baseball fan.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Who's your team?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Today's well, tonight's you know, the Yankees? Yeah, yeah, or
- 14:50Speaker 2: else we go home. You know, I really early in
- 14:53Speaker 2: the season, I said, you know, I hope this isn't
- 14:56Speaker 2: a team that's built to break our hearts, because it
- 14:58Speaker 2: just felt like that, Yeah, a minute, it's great, the
- 15:02Speaker 2: next minute they can't get out of their own way.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. If they get to a game four,
- 15:09Speaker 1: we shall see. By the time this airs will know
- 15:11Speaker 1: what happens. You mentioned all those celebrities in that celebrities
- 15:15Speaker 1: softball league. Is there an actor dead or alive that
- 15:18Speaker 1: you wish you could do just one scene with.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Oh, there's so many.
- 15:24Speaker 1: If you want to just name like a few that
- 15:25Speaker 1: come to mind.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Well, Georgie Scott was a dear friend of mine. I
- 15:30Speaker 2: got to do it. I got to do a play
- 15:32Speaker 2: with him, in a movie with him, and he was unbelievable. Yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 2: you know, I mean Danny, I would work with de Vito.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I'd pay him. I pay them to do that, you know.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I also because I got to be friends with Sammy Kahn.
- 15:49Speaker 2: He introduced me to everybody. Used to have these dinner
- 15:51Speaker 2: parties and Gregory Peck would be there, Sidney Poitier would
- 15:55Speaker 2: be there, Sammy. It was unbelievable. So I got to
- 15:58Speaker 2: know a lot of these people. And I did work
- 16:01Speaker 2: with Jack Lemon. I got to act with Jack Lemon,
- 16:04Speaker 2: and I did, you know, like I said, I did
- 16:05Speaker 2: get George. So I've had some really, I've had some.
- 16:12Speaker 2: You know, I've had some moments.
- 16:13Speaker 1: You should go on. You should go on always Son
- 16:16Speaker 1: in Philadelphia with the Veto. You'd be great on that.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well then he you know, he's he's out of
- 16:24Speaker 2: this world man. Yeah, he's he's he's the thing.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And he's a great director too. Is there a role
- 16:32Speaker 1: that you regret turning down or one that you auditioned for?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Where you go, I wish I got that one. I
- 16:37Speaker 1: would have been perfect for that.
- 16:40Speaker 2: There's a bunch you go. You know, it's just fifty
- 16:43Speaker 2: years now, Yeah, fifty years. I've I've had a couple
- 16:47Speaker 2: that went the wrong way, and uh, I wish they
- 16:50Speaker 2: they wouldn't know, but yeah, I got them. But who
- 16:55Speaker 2: wants to talk about it?
- 16:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll move on. I'm curious about your childhood. You know,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you mentioned Inner City Kid. What was like? What were
- 17:04Speaker 1: the shows that you were watching that maybe inspired you
- 17:07Speaker 1: to get into acting? Whereas it you know, shows like
- 17:09Speaker 1: The Honeymooners. What was like a sitcom that you grew
- 17:11Speaker 1: up watching?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Loving Honamemooners was a favorite, because my family's favorite. You know,
- 17:16Speaker 2: we're talking about I'm a kid in the fifties and sixties. Now,
- 17:19Speaker 2: you gotta remember it's a long time ago. I mean,
- 17:22Speaker 2: you know, Leave It to Beaver was on. You know
- 17:24Speaker 2: what I mean is we're not talking about but I
- 17:27Speaker 2: think once. You know, I think the shows that that
- 17:32Speaker 2: what really I think was separated American TV from the
- 17:36Speaker 2: rest of the world were those sitcoms. Those sitcoms that
- 17:39Speaker 2: we did in the seventies and eighties, you know, Marty
- 17:41Speaker 2: Barney Miller and Cheers and you know the things that
- 17:47Speaker 2: they were like little plays every week Who's the Boss
- 17:50Speaker 2: It was a play. He had to do twenty two
- 17:52Speaker 2: minute and forty second play in front of a live audience.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'll make them laugh, you know what I mean. And
- 17:57Speaker 2: it was it was it was a whole I don't know.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You know, the rest of the world was doing dating
- 18:04Speaker 2: shows and reality shows, and now we're doing dating shows
- 18:07Speaker 2: and reality shows and importing their shows. I don't know
- 18:09Speaker 2: what the heck's going on.
- 18:11Speaker 1: You know, what do you do for fun besides acting?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Right now? Is there something that people might not know
- 18:17Speaker 1: that you're a big fan of.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Well, you know that I'm singing and a dancer and
- 18:21Speaker 2: I'm out. I've been on a Seventh City eighteen eighteen
- 18:25Speaker 2: show tour. I did a week at the Carlisle last week.
- 18:29Speaker 2: You know what the Carlisle is. It's the very fancy
- 18:33Speaker 2: dancing hotel from another era. It's like it has the
- 18:36Speaker 2: elevators that have these things on them. Yeah, yeah, it's you.
- 18:41Speaker 2: They when you get a suite there, they embroider your
- 18:44Speaker 2: initials into the pillowcase. Wow. They give you a suite
- 18:48Speaker 2: when you play there. So I've been there for a week.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Saturday Tuesday to Saturday Sunday morning, got up and took
- 18:55Speaker 2: a flight to Salt Lake City, drove to pro Well,
- 19:00Speaker 2: did the show Monday night in Proval. Came back Tuesday
- 19:05Speaker 2: and Wednesday and Thursday night we were at the Carlisle.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Sunday I was at the Queensboro Performance Arts Center at
- 19:12Speaker 2: Queensboro College in queens And next week the one we're
- 19:15Speaker 2: supposed to be talking about. Yes, that's exciting. Yes, I'm
- 19:20Speaker 2: actually doing my Sinatra show charted for a symphony or
- 19:25Speaker 2: orchestra and the Long Island Pops. So I'm very very
- 19:29Speaker 2: excited about that.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's gonna be Sunday, October nineteenth. Tony will be
- 19:33Speaker 1: performing Sinatra and Stories with the Nasau Pops Symphony, which
- 19:36Speaker 1: is a benefit concert for cerebral palsy. And as we mentioned,
- 19:40Speaker 1: that event is at the Tillis Center for Performance for
- 19:43Speaker 1: Performing Arts on the campus of l IU Post Tony,
- 19:46Speaker 1: thank you so much. Before you go, I did have.
- 19:49Speaker 2: A question way before we go. Before I go, going
- 19:52Speaker 2: to tell you more thing.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Let's here.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I run a teen acting program here in the city free.
- 19:59Speaker 2: It's called Ours at tomorrowproject dot org. And we are
- 20:03Speaker 2: having our benefits show October twenty third at the Sheen
- 20:06Speaker 2: Center downtown and this year was celebrating. We had a
- 20:11Speaker 2: kid come to the program. All right, this is just
- 20:15Speaker 2: a free acting program. We solicited the high schools. The
- 20:18Speaker 2: VETO supports it a lot too, and he's the greatest.
- 20:21Speaker 2: But we had a kid. You know, the slogan is
- 20:24Speaker 2: when you teach a kid how to act, you teach
- 20:25Speaker 2: a kid how to act. Anyway, we had a kid
- 20:29Speaker 2: come to the program. Daniel Hernandez come to the program.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Didn't want to go to college, wasn't even interested in acting.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I said, what did you come for? He says, well,
- 20:37Speaker 2: it's free, and I thought they might be girls, right,
- 20:40Speaker 2: so this is yeah, So he stays, he was good.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Then he disappeared. We got him back, got him into college.
- 20:46Speaker 2: He went to Sunny Purchase, finished and made his debut
- 20:49Speaker 2: on Broadway and Romeo and Juliet this year. Wow. Right
- 20:53Speaker 2: from the program. So we're we're we're doing some good
- 20:56Speaker 2: and this year we finally got a headquarters. We've been
- 21:00Speaker 2: renting space, but we got a headquarters now. So we're
- 21:03Speaker 2: on thirty ninth Street in Lexington Avenue on the East Side,
- 21:08Speaker 2: and the program is really doing well. So October twenty
- 21:13Speaker 2: third for our benefits show, please go on go online
- 21:17Speaker 2: to the Stars of tomorrowproject dot org. Awesome, awesome, thanks important,
- 21:24Speaker 2: it's important. We've got to do something for you know,
- 21:27Speaker 2: we're really we've we've sort of abdicated any responsibility for
- 21:31Speaker 2: nurturing our children. You know, remember there used to be
- 21:34Speaker 2: a Family Hour on TV. Now they're like everybody else,
- 21:37Speaker 2: they're customers. Do what you want to do, and so
- 21:40Speaker 2: you know, it's it's I think it's it's up to us.
- 21:42Speaker 2: It's up to somebody to try to give them something
- 21:44Speaker 2: else to be interested in it.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Well, just one more thing, I mean, that is such
- 21:48Speaker 1: a great cause, Tony, and I'm definitely gonna check that
- 21:51Speaker 1: out and we'll promote it here at the station for sure.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But you mentioned, you know, Family Hour, and families can
- 21:57Speaker 1: sit and watch a television show, and that's not really
- 22:00Speaker 1: a thing for the most part. A lot of the
- 22:03Speaker 1: shows aren't the classic sitcoms that you had in the
- 22:06Speaker 1: seventies and particularly in the eighties where it was very
- 22:08Speaker 1: family friendly. Into the nineties they kept that. You think
- 22:11Speaker 1: they'll just never get to that anymore. Do you think
- 22:14Speaker 1: the world is so jaded and the comedy is so
- 22:17Speaker 1: different that we'll never get that classic shitcomedy.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I don't think that's the problem. I think it's the
- 22:23Speaker 2: business model, you know. I think network TV is threatened,
- 22:28Speaker 2: and I think, you know, like I was thinking, we're
- 22:30Speaker 2: watching the Baseball playoffs on TV, but pretty soon, you
- 22:34Speaker 2: know they're going to be on the streaming. You know,
- 22:35Speaker 2: you're not gonna be able to watch it. You know,
- 22:36Speaker 2: you gotta pay for it sooner, sooner or later. Like
- 22:39Speaker 2: I said, we used to watch Muhammad Ali fight Joe
- 22:42Speaker 2: f you know, on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, you know.
- 22:46Speaker 2: So it's I think it's the model that's that's chipping
- 22:49Speaker 2: away at that stuff. You know. There's a couple on
- 22:52Speaker 2: TV and I tell you, if I, if I had
- 22:55Speaker 2: one wish, it would be to get one more one
- 22:57Speaker 2: more shot on TV with a sitcom.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I think everyone would love that, the world would love that.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Tony Danza. So we'll put that out there into the
- 23:05Speaker 1: to the universe. Tony, thank you so much before you
- 23:11Speaker 1: greciate it. Awesome. Is there any way you could just say, hey,
- 23:15Speaker 1: this is Tony Danzel. You're listening to the radio Rumble.
- 23:17Speaker 1: All right, awesome, thank you radio what rumble?
- 23:22Speaker 2: The radio rumble with you? With you?
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you can say with Justin Greenberg?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Okay, all right, okay, it's Tony Danzer. You're listening to
- 23:32Speaker 2: the Here you go, the radio Rumble with Justin Greenberg.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Right yeah, okay, ready, Hey everybody, you're listening to the
- 23:40Speaker 2: radio Rumble with Justin Greenberg.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Awesome, Thank you, Tony. I'm directing Tony Dancer. This is great.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Man.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Want you know I could say this is Tony Dancer.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well I try it that way too, tex Yeah, yeah, hey.
- 23:57Speaker 2: This is Tony Dancer. And you'll listenstening to the radio
- 24:01Speaker 2: Rumble with Justin Greenberg.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm playing that every week, mister Danza. Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: thank you, Tony. This has been a.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Blest have a I'm sorry I was a little late.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Not a problem at all, sir. Okay, have a good
- 24:17Speaker 1: rest of the day.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, good luck.
