- 1:25So guys, without any further ado, let's kick
- 1:28the show off.
- 1:28All right, everyone.
- 1:29So this is Inspirations For Your Life.
- 1:31This is series five, which means we're in
- 1:33our fifth year.
- 1:34We're already four years and almost a little
- 1:37more than three and a half months into
- 1:41the fifth year.
- 1:42This is show 12, episode number three, and
- 1:45it's about wake up.
- 1:47Yes, the master topic of the week is
- 1:48seeing clearly.
- 1:50When your vision sharpens, your decisions improve.
- 1:54Hey guys, I'm John C.
- 1:56Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:00podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and
- 2:04guys, yes, a passionate lifelong learner.
- 2:06And pretty soon guys, I am going to
- 2:08be a published author and I am so
- 2:10thrilled with that.
- 2:11This episode is about waking up to your
- 2:14own awareness.
- 2:15By the way, there'll be more details as
- 2:17we get closer.
- 2:18The book is scheduled to be dedicated to
- 2:20my parents on April 16th or 17th.
- 2:25We'll be doing that live on the air
- 2:26and then the book will be officially open
- 2:29for orders the end of April.
- 2:30I'll be starting my official book tour in
- 2:32June, so definitely stay tuned for that.
- 2:35Also I will have the book on Amazon.
- 2:37It'll be, I believe, on Marginal Press.
- 2:39It'll also be on ACX on Amazon Audible,
- 2:43so you can get it there as well.
- 2:44So this episode, ladies and gentlemen, is about
- 2:47waking up to your own awareness, sharpening your
- 2:51thinking, and making intentional choices and decisions that
- 2:55align with your goals and of course your
- 2:57values.
- 2:59Now, strong lives are built when awareness replaces
- 3:03assumption and intentional choices replace drift.
- 3:09You know, a lot of people get confused
- 3:11with this, but this is how it works.
- 3:13So this is Wake Up Monday, and again,
- 3:15awareness begins, ladies and gentlemen, with transformation.
- 3:19Everything starts with noticing.
- 3:21And it could be a subtle notice.
- 3:22It doesn't have to be anything really big.
- 3:24Noticing what's happening in your mind and the
- 3:28environment around you.
- 3:30I think a lot of people miss the
- 3:31environment around them because they're so busy they
- 3:34don't have time to quiet the chattering monkeys
- 3:37in their head.
- 3:38Awareness, guys, is the spark that ignites growth.
- 3:43Without it, decisions are reactive.
- 3:46And we talked about proactive and reactive, haven't
- 3:49we?
- 3:49So proactive is when we do things like
- 3:52when we talked about the fire, being ready
- 3:54for the fire.
- 3:54Nobody wants a fire, but being prepared for
- 3:56an emergency is much better than trying to
- 3:58get ready for the emergency when the emergency
- 4:00is currently happening.
- 4:02Honest thinking, guys, improves growth.
- 4:05Being truthful with yourself about where you are
- 4:09and what's working allows you to make adjustments
- 4:13that actually move the needle.
- 4:15We've talked about the needle before.
- 4:16A needle was talked a lot about when
- 4:18we think about meters and things.
- 4:19That's where the needle comes from.
- 4:21Clear vision strengthens decisions.
- 4:24When your vision is sharp, every choice aligns
- 4:27with your goals.
- 4:29Decisions become easier, and they appear more confident
- 4:32because they are.
- 4:34Facing truth, guys, builds confidence.
- 4:37Avoiding reality wastes energy.
- 4:40So let's stop that.
- 4:41Confront challenges head on to develop self-assurance
- 4:45and authority over your life.
- 4:48Awareness removes confusion.
- 4:51Chaos comes from, well, unexamined assumptions.
- 4:56Mindful attention clears the fog so you can
- 4:59see the path forward.
- 5:00We all know we've been in the car
- 5:01before, and maybe the temperature is not balancing
- 5:05properly with the outside, the inside, and it's
- 5:08getting too foggy.
- 5:09So what do you do?
- 5:10You throw in the defrosters.
- 5:11And sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't.
- 5:14So honest reflection fuels improvement.
- 5:18Take stock daily, guys.
- 5:19You don't have to make this public.
- 5:21You can just do this yourself.
- 5:22Review what has worked and what's working for
- 5:25you now, what didn't and what to do
- 5:29differently this time.
- 5:29Self-reflection is a compounder of results.
- 5:34So clear thinking builds strong plans.
- 5:37Thoughtful planning isn't about rigidity.
- 5:39It's about constructing a map that guides your
- 5:42actions with clarity and precision.
- 5:44Now, I'm not going to name any people,
- 5:46but there was a group on one of
- 5:48these social platforms, and the group, let's say
- 5:52admin, was getting so, how can I say,
- 5:58demonstrative about the premise that they were knocking
- 6:04out people that really should be in the
- 6:06group.
- 6:07And so people even came up and said,
- 6:10you know, I think the real problem is
- 6:12not these people.
- 6:13The real problem is you.
- 6:15You're getting too retentive.
- 6:16And I see where they're coming from.
- 6:18So insights improve strategy, guys.
- 6:21Understanding patterns and predicting outcomes make you smarter,
- 6:25proactive, instead of being reactive.
- 6:27When we recognize patterns in our life, whether
- 6:29that's for education or anything, we are able
- 6:32to recognize them in the future and like,
- 6:34oh, I get this.
- 6:35I know how to apply this, right?
- 6:36This happens a lot in math and also
- 6:38a lot in science.
- 6:40Strategy comes from deep insight, not guesswork.
- 6:44Awareness reveals opportunities by noticing subtleties others just
- 6:49seem to overlook.
- 6:51You can easily identify opportunities before they become
- 6:55obvious.
- 6:56But I got to be honest with you,
- 6:58it takes some time.
- 6:59It takes some effort.
- 7:00You're not just going to do this at
- 7:02the drop of a hat or the snap
- 7:03of a finger.
- 7:04Clear thinking, guys, reduces mistakes.
- 7:07It really does.
- 7:08A mind trained to see clearly cuts down
- 7:12errors, protects energy, and prevents wasted effort.
- 7:17Truth, guys, strengthens leadership.
- 7:21Leaders who face reality inspire trust.
- 7:25Honesty in decision-making creates influence that endures.
- 7:32Honest evaluation builds progress.
- 7:36It measures results without a bias.
- 7:39If a tactic fails, learn from it.
- 7:42If it succeeds, replicate it and do more
- 7:45of that.
- 7:46Progress comes from objective assessment.
- 7:49Awareness sharpens direction.
- 7:51When you know what matters, it's easier to
- 7:54focus your energy where it counts most.
- 7:57But many people are still focusing their energy
- 7:59on things that appear to be what they
- 8:02need or what their ego is telling them,
- 8:04but not really what they should be working
- 8:06on.
- 8:07So insight builds understanding.
- 8:10Seeing the connections others miss gives clarity to
- 8:14complex situations and strengthens decision-making.
- 8:17Now, if you're going to rely on your
- 8:19ego all the time, this is not going
- 8:22to be an easy feat for you because
- 8:23you're going to be constantly fighting with your
- 8:25ego.
- 8:26So let the ego go a little bit
- 8:28and allow the rest of you in the
- 8:31environment to guide you.
- 8:34Clear thinking supports discipline.
- 8:37When your mind knows what is essential, following
- 8:40through just becomes natural, simple, and more consistent.
- 8:45Awareness, guys, expands possibilities.
- 8:49Being conscious of your thoughts today and surroundings
- 8:53of the environment reveals choices you might have
- 8:56ignored.
- 8:58Honest thinking builds wisdom.
- 9:01Daily self-examination turns experience into actionable intelligence.
- 9:06That's right, ladies and gentlemen.
- 9:07I said it helps you turn experience into
- 9:10actionable intelligence.
- 9:10It does not happen on a dime.
- 9:14You have to intentionally want to turn the
- 9:16experience into intelligence.
- 9:18Insights strengthen judgment.
- 9:22Seeing patterns and potential outcomes equip you to
- 9:28make smarter, faster decisions.
- 9:31Under pressure, that is, okay?
- 9:33So awareness builds resilience.
- 9:38Recognizing challenges before they overwhelm allows you to
- 9:43respond rather than react.
- 9:45And I've said to you, it's better to
- 9:47be proactive than reactive.
- 9:50Reactive gets done from the ego standpoint.
- 9:54Reactive does not happen because of the calm,
- 9:59the intelligence, the interpolation that we've gotten from
- 10:03data and experience in the past.
- 10:05It doesn't happen from that.
- 10:07Clear vision drives success.
- 10:11When your end goal is sharp, vivid, your
- 10:15actions align naturally with progress.
- 10:18It's like Legos or any kind of Lincoln
- 10:21Logs.
- 10:22They just kind of naturally go together, right,
- 10:25when they're at the right angle and at
- 10:27the right place.
- 10:29Understanding improves outcomes deliberately, okay?
- 10:35Analysis reduces errors and increases the likelihood of
- 10:39favorable results, all right?
- 10:42That's important.
- 10:44Insight fuels progress.
- 10:48Regular reflection on lessons learned accelerates the growth
- 10:52and avoids repetitive mistakes.
- 10:55See, once we make a mistake and we
- 10:58don't acknowledge that mistake, we keep making it
- 11:00over and over and over again, and it
- 11:04becomes a habit, and it's hard to undo
- 11:08that programming.
- 11:10Honest awareness improves leadership, guys.
- 11:14Knowing your strengths and your weaknesses strengthens your
- 11:20ability to lead and inspire others.
- 11:22Clarity supports better action, guys, so when we
- 11:25get clear, we know where we're going.
- 11:27When the windshield in our car doesn't have
- 11:31snow on it or doesn't have fog on
- 11:34it, we can actually see where the heck
- 11:35we're driving.
- 11:38Actions become more effective when guided by a
- 11:41clear, prioritized plan.
- 11:43I just told you that when your windshield's
- 11:45foggy, you shouldn't attempt to drive, right?
- 11:48You have a clear vision, or if you're
- 11:51wearing eyeglasses, even I wear sunglasses, if your
- 11:55glasses are cloudy, suddenly things are not sharp,
- 12:00and you're missing details, not just small details,
- 12:03but big details.
- 12:05Awareness improves timing.
- 12:08Recognizing the right moment to act increases efficiency
- 12:12and impact.
- 12:14Clear thinking increases your efficiency, just like a
- 12:18clear window increases your ability to drive properly.
- 12:21Eliminating mental clutter lets you focus on the
- 12:24tasks that truly matter, but sometimes our ego,
- 12:28well, puts up these blocks, and it becomes
- 12:33this tug-and-pull game, tug-of-war
- 12:35with our one side of our mind and
- 12:38the other side, right, because of the ego.
- 12:40Insight, ladies and gentlemen, strengthens planning.
- 12:43Understanding potential obstacles before they arise allows preemptive
- 12:48action and smoother execution.
- 12:50We've talked about preparing for emergencies, whether it's
- 12:53the fire.
- 12:53I use the fire a lot because that's
- 12:55an important one, right?
- 12:56So what you should have is you should
- 12:58have an escape plan.
- 12:59You should know at least two ways to
- 13:00get out of your home or your building.
- 13:02You should have the go-to plan of
- 13:05what you're going to grab, your go-bag,
- 13:06your emergency stuff, that's it, not everything else,
- 13:08not the kitchen sink.
- 13:09Where are you going to meet when this
- 13:13happens?
- 13:14How are you going to get out of
- 13:15your home or your building?
- 13:18Practice this.
- 13:19Don't just say we're going to do this
- 13:21in an emergency.
- 13:22We'll actually practice it.
- 13:23Yeah, that's just as good as like nothing.
- 13:25So you want to practice this and get
- 13:28comfortable so that going to that place, doing
- 13:31these things, the stop, drop, and roll, it's
- 13:34not something like, oh, let's try that the
- 13:36first time.
- 13:37No, no, no.
- 13:38During a fire, it should not be about
- 13:40being reactive.
- 13:41It should be about being proactive.
- 13:43There are certain things in a fire you're
- 13:44going to be reactive to, and that's OK,
- 13:46like fire and smoke.
- 13:48But the rest of it, you should be
- 13:50proactive and expect and know how to respond.
- 13:54Honest awareness, guys, fuels growth.
- 13:57Continuous self-evaluation ensures that learning compounds over
- 14:02time, over time.
- 14:05The key is it doesn't have to happen
- 14:07overnight.
- 14:08I said over time.
- 14:09Clarity creates opportunities.
- 14:11Clear priorities free up mental and physical energy
- 14:15to seize what others miss.
- 14:17And that's the difference between a successful person
- 14:20and a non-successful person is that the
- 14:22non-successful person is still looking at the
- 14:25clouds.
- 14:26They're still looking at the picture from, let's
- 14:31say, weeks, days, months, or years ago.
- 14:33They're not looking at the picture of the
- 14:36situation with today's mindset.
- 14:39Wake up to what matters, guys.
- 14:43Awareness, honesty, insight, and clarity combined to produce
- 14:49deliberate action that transforms your life.
- 14:52This is your moment to move intentionally rather
- 14:55than drift.
- 14:57And I think when we hear about the
- 14:59conversation of drift, we're like, oh, well, if
- 15:02I drift, it's no big deal.
- 15:03I can just get back on track.
- 15:06Yes, you can.
- 15:09But every time you fall off or you
- 15:12drift, you have to recalibrate again.
- 15:15I'm going to use this to analogy that
- 15:18is very clear to me and hopefully to
- 15:20you.
- 15:20I started competitive sailing when I was not
- 15:23even, like, seven.
- 15:25I learned how to sail when I was,
- 15:26like, four or five.
- 15:30And the thing about it is that if
- 15:32you are in a race, competitive racing on
- 15:36B-Cats and Sunfish, which is what I
- 15:40learned on, if you understand that maybe you've
- 15:46drifted from the position of the wind, a
- 15:51choice that you made.
- 15:52And let me just give you a couple
- 15:53examples.
- 15:54Now, forget the race for a moment.
- 15:55But let's say if you drift one side.
- 15:58If you drift one side, it might be
- 16:01hard for you to get back because now
- 16:03you're not going to just let the sail
- 16:04out halfway beyond a reach or all the
- 16:08way beyond a run.
- 16:09You might not have to tack back because
- 16:11the other position is actually almost in the
- 16:13wind.
- 16:14And if you go in the wind, you'll
- 16:15be in irons.
- 16:17So we've got to be proactive.
- 16:18So, yes, you can drift, but it might
- 16:20take you two, three or four times longer
- 16:22to get back.
- 16:23If you're in a race, and let's say
- 16:25I got off the wind, okay, and now
- 16:29I can't round the buoy as close as
- 16:31I want, I've got to be careful because
- 16:33I might be too far away from the
- 16:34buoy.
- 16:34I'm going to lose time.
- 16:35Or I might get too close to the
- 16:37buoy, and if I hit the buoy, you
- 16:38know what happens?
- 16:39I've got to reroute it because that's how
- 16:41I am, right?
- 16:42You know I'm all about intentional things, right?
- 16:45I'm about doing things that are intentional, integrity,
- 16:49right?
- 16:50But some people might say, you know what,
- 16:51I don't need to do that.
- 16:53I'm just going to do what I want
- 16:54to do.
- 16:56And then you're going to get some people
- 16:58that aren't happy with you, and they're going
- 16:59to tell you that you better reroute the
- 17:01buoy or we're going to protest.
- 17:04You're like, well, what's a protest?
- 17:05I don't care.
- 17:06Until you understand what protest means, protest means
- 17:09you're basically going into like an informal hearing
- 17:11where you've got one or two boat captains
- 17:15and skippers basically filing a formal complaint against
- 17:18you.
- 17:19And the race committee has to decide, are
- 17:23they legitimate?
- 17:25Do they have proof?
- 17:26And if you have even one, two, definitely
- 17:30three, you're hands down.
- 17:31When there's a protest, usually several people for
- 17:34principle want to come and be like reporting
- 17:36it.
- 17:37And when the race committee sees this, they're
- 17:39like, okay, this person is disqualified.
- 17:43And then you're ahead of that boat.
- 17:45So what can happen is by not rounding
- 17:47the buoy, you either might be pushed one
- 17:51or they might totally disqualify you from the
- 17:53race.
- 17:56So in the case of this goes, it
- 17:58might be the sense that the other boats
- 18:00are far away, so they might just disqualify.
- 18:03So if you're in position, let's say, one,
- 18:04and there was two and three, well, now
- 18:06you're going to be in position, let's say,
- 18:09you'll be in the third position if that's
- 18:11the ones that you're rallying with.
- 18:13So when we lose our position, when we
- 18:18lose our spot and we drift, we could
- 18:21drift a lot of ways.
- 18:22It could be spiritually, it could be mentally,
- 18:24it could be physically, even our exercises.
- 18:26When we drift, the further and longer that
- 18:32we drift, the harder and more challenging it
- 18:35is to get back on track.
- 18:37We may drift and lose time, we may
- 18:39lose money, we lose other resources.
- 18:42And these are the key things when we're
- 18:44talking about wake up.
- 18:47Wake up is the fact that, hey, the
- 18:50world is moving and you're missing everything going
- 18:55right by you.
- 18:56It's right here, but you're not paying attention
- 19:01to it, so it's just going right over
- 19:03your head.
- 19:05And I know that sounds hard to believe,
- 19:10but people do this more than not than
- 19:12you'd expect in life.
- 19:16Somebody will say to you, well, I understand.
- 19:21And now you've done these things and they
- 19:26say they understand, but really they don't.
- 19:29And now you start explaining something to them
- 19:31and because they don't even understand the premise
- 19:34of where you're coming from, now you've got
- 19:36to restart all over again.
- 19:38This can happen with vendors, this can happen
- 19:41in other relationships.
- 19:44It can happen in a lot of different
- 19:45places.
- 19:46It can happen with yourself.
- 19:49I use the example of racing, of let's
- 19:54say, you know, exercising, even staying healthy.
- 20:01Once you drift, it is hard to get
- 20:05back.
- 20:06Not to say you can never get back,
- 20:08but it becomes harder.
- 20:14And if we think about wake up, right?
- 20:17Wake up in the morning, like when you
- 20:18get up or wake up from a nap,
- 20:20your body comes back online.
- 20:23The best way to explain this is if
- 20:25you think of, let's say, technology.
- 20:27And let's say when you power something down,
- 20:29it goes offline.
- 20:30When your body is sleeping, it kind of
- 20:33goes offline except for certain functions like your
- 20:35heart and things like that.
- 20:36There are certain parts of your body that
- 20:38always keep working.
- 20:40But when the rest of your body comes
- 20:42back online, you're now tuned into what's going
- 20:50on.
- 20:51There's a certain part of your body that
- 20:53never really goes offline.
- 20:55But when all of your senses come back
- 21:00online and you're alert and awake, you can
- 21:05be as precise to hear even the drop
- 21:11of a pin.
- 21:14And you might say, John, I can't.
- 21:15Well, pretend right now for me, if you're
- 21:18not driving, that you're sitting on the edge
- 21:20of your favorite chair.
- 21:22Now pretend for a moment that you are
- 21:25the most fierce, ferocious lion.
- 21:29You're quiet.
- 21:32And you're listening for any sound in that
- 21:35forest that you could gather prey on.
- 21:45The sound so silent that you could hear
- 21:48the drop of a pin.
- 21:51I do this with a lot of my
- 21:52students.
- 21:52I tell people, if I can drop this
- 21:55pin and you don't hear it, your attention
- 22:01is not with me.
- 22:05The subtle drop of a pin doesn't really
- 22:10sound like a pin.
- 22:12It sounds like a little light click.
- 22:14And the first time I did it, I
- 22:15was like, oh, there's no ting sound.
- 22:17I just heard like a click.
- 22:20And that was kind of interesting to me.
- 22:23So waking up is our body using our
- 22:29resources to connect to our environment externally and
- 22:34internally.
- 22:37We hear things, we see things, touch, taste,
- 22:41and observe things.
- 22:43We're even aware of the position of our
- 22:46body.
- 22:46If your eyes were closed, don't do this
- 22:47if you're driving.
- 22:48You could tell whether your hand is up
- 22:50here or down there or your leg or
- 22:52position.
- 22:52Even if your eyes are not open.
- 22:56So when we talk about seeing clearly, yes,
- 23:00it's about waking up.
- 23:02But not just in the sense what you
- 23:04think of waking up from a nap.
- 23:05It's about waking up your senses to their
- 23:12heightened state.
- 23:14So you could detect the drop of a
- 23:17pin like a ferocious lion.
- 23:21When we pretend that we are a ferocious
- 23:24lion and we're sitting on the edge of
- 23:26the chair like that, you could become so
- 23:30intent.
- 23:34And your hearing can get even better.
- 23:37We can create that by causing that moment
- 23:41of focus.
- 23:42That is just so powerful, guys.
- 23:46So the question I want to leave you
- 23:47with today is, are you woken up?
- 23:52When people talk, do you listen?
- 23:56When things move around in the environment, do
- 23:58you listen?
- 23:59Do you pay attention?
- 24:01Or are you like, I didn't hear that.
- 24:04Can you say that again?
- 24:05Or I'll wait to hear it again.
- 24:06You may not get the chance to hear
- 24:08that again.
- 24:12Universe may only knock once.
- 24:16Can you repeat that?
- 24:18I can.
- 24:20But 10,000 people already heard it.
- 24:22And they're probably already going to get it.
- 24:25So you're not even going to have a
- 24:26chance.
- 24:28That's why hearing things, experiencing things the first
- 24:33time is key.
- 24:36You might say, well, gee, who cares whether
- 24:38I'm first or second in line.
- 24:39That's not the issue here.
- 24:41The issue is how many people are going
- 24:44to get to that opportunity first.
- 24:48Will it be you?
- 24:49Or will you be saying, I think you
- 24:54said this, or I think it was about
- 24:55that.
- 24:57But could you repeat it?
- 24:58No, I can't.
- 25:01Because it's already too late.
- 25:05So I want you to wake up in
- 25:06your life.
- 25:07Not just from sleep, but wake up your
- 25:13potential.
- 25:15Wake up to your dreams, to your reality.
- 25:17Wake up to the change that you can
- 25:23make.
- 25:24Wake up to what you're telling your mind.
- 25:29That's important, guys.
- 25:31Remember, everyone, clarity is the foundation of progress.
- 25:37Remember that.
- 25:39Each day, take a moment to simply pause.
- 25:47That's right.
- 25:48Just pause.
- 25:49Reflect.
- 25:51And intentionally choose to realign your actions and
- 25:58your core values with the goals and aspirations
- 26:01that you have in your life.
- 26:03Small conscious choices compound into unstoppable momentum.
- 26:10So don't think because this is not a
- 26:12grand thing I'm doing, it's going to have
- 26:14no effect.
- 26:15In fact, it probably will have a big
- 26:18impact.
- 26:20Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know if you
- 26:21guys know this, but your choices affect your
- 26:27environment and they affect your perception.
- 26:35A lot of times people's perception is diminished
- 26:37because of what someone else says.
- 26:41Don't allow other people to shut off or
- 26:47diminish your perception.
- 26:49Don't do that.
- 26:51Because once they do and they build that
- 26:53habit into you, you're never going to be
- 26:57acute and aware to those things.
- 26:59And that's the difference between success and waiting
- 27:02for it.
- 27:04Ladies and gentlemen, I am John C.
